Latest / DEEP INSIGHT / Double Standard 'MAGA dunks on Katie Porter's viral videos'
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Maga is losing it after Katie Porter's campaign for governor
- 0:03Speaker 1: of California goes viral for all the wrong reasons, including
- 0:07Speaker 1: newly uncovered video that shows the former House Democrat snapping
- 0:11Speaker 1: at a staffer who interrupted her during an interview to
- 0:14Speaker 1: correct a point Porter had made. Now a warning to
- 0:18Speaker 1: children in the room, you probably should cover your ears
- 0:20Speaker 1: for this one. Listen that we're going to lose.
- 0:24Speaker 2: More than half a million Californians dying premperaturely to air
- 0:28Speaker 2: pollution and other problems, and the state could lose. You're
- 0:33Speaker 2: out of my own shot.
- 0:38Speaker 1: There's also this firing exchange Porter had with a local
- 0:44Speaker 1: journalist in Sacramento.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Listened to this, What do you say to the forty
- 0:48Speaker 2: percent of California voters who you'll need in order to win,
- 0:52Speaker 2: who voted for Trump? How would I need them in
- 0:55Speaker 2: order to win?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Man?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, unless you think you're going to get sixty percent
- 0:59Speaker 2: of vote, you think you'll get sixty pers all, everybody who.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Did not vote for Trump will vote for you.
- 1:04Speaker 2: That's what you're in a general election. Yes, if it
- 1:07Speaker 2: is me versus a Republican, I think that I will
- 1:10Speaker 2: win the people who did not vote for Trump I'm saying,
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm going to try to win every vote I can.
- 1:14Speaker 2: And what I'm saying to you is that, well to
- 1:17Speaker 2: those voters. Okay, so you I don't want to keep
- 1:19Speaker 2: doing this, I'm gonna call it. Thank you.
- 1:24Speaker 5: You're not gonna do the interview with them?
- 1:26Speaker 2: No, not like this. I'm not not with seven follow
- 1:28Speaker 2: ups to every single question you ask.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Oh look, bad behavior, for sure, Tara. But I feel
- 1:34Speaker 1: like we're in an era of politicians behaving badly when
- 1:38Speaker 1: it comes to journalists reporters.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Mean President Trump literally attacks reporters every single day, calls it.
- 1:44Speaker 5: You're a nasty woman, You're this, You're that, he.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Said, He told me, I asked stupid questions.
- 1:49Speaker 4: So ill badge of honor.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I've been there, didn't take it personally, but that's that's Trump.
- 1:54Speaker 5: I think people like that nastiness. They think it is
- 1:57Speaker 5: a strength.
- 1:58Speaker 1: They think it is like me, think it's authentic.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Any curses like that behind the scenes?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yes? Are we sure Katie Porter's not improving because in
- 2:07Speaker 3: her previous negative interactions with other human beings, she once
- 2:12Speaker 3: I think, poured a pot of hot, scalding mashed potatoes
- 2:15Speaker 3: on someone. She didn't even physically assault this reporter, so
- 2:18Speaker 3: maybe she's actually an improving California. Are you really going
- 2:22Speaker 3: to look at that face in your television screen for
- 2:24Speaker 3: the next four years and tolerate this behavior?
- 2:27Speaker 1: Do better? Wait, we've got millions of millions, Scott. I
- 2:30Speaker 1: think the question one of the questions though for you,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I mean, not so much for other people who don't
- 2:35Speaker 1: like this behavior, but for you, you comfortable with that
- 2:38Speaker 1: treatment of reporters from Trump but not from Katie Porter.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I don't I don't care what Katie Porter does to reporters.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I thought it was legitimate questions and any legitimate candidate
- 2:47Speaker 3: for governor, especially in a state that I thought I
- 2:49Speaker 3: have a better answer.
- 2:50Speaker 5: I mean, I think, can I just make a quick
- 2:52Speaker 5: comment about the behavior of candidates and elected officials? There
- 2:56Speaker 5: seems to definitely be a double standard. I think it's
- 2:58Speaker 5: like an East Coast versus West coast. Uh, you know
- 3:01Speaker 5: how we treat each other, how we act. Because in
- 3:03Speaker 5: Virginia you have a candidate who's running for attorney general
- 3:06Speaker 5: who sent text messages out talking about he wanted they're
- 3:10Speaker 5: a bullet two bullets for the speaker of the House.
- 3:12Speaker 5: He's Republican colleague and talking about wanting to urinate on
- 3:15Speaker 5: the grade.
- 3:16Speaker 1: That isolated experience. No, yeah, that's a listen, But Tim,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I mean there's a listen that. First of all, I
- 3:30Speaker 1: don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want
- 3:33Speaker 1: I don't want to prepare apples oranges here. I mean,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I think the question is Katie Porter had these interactions
- 3:39Speaker 1: with her staff and these interactions with the press, and
- 3:43Speaker 1: it's so egregious that here's what some of the reactions
- 3:46Speaker 1: from magas ben what a mean spoiled brat Katie Porter is?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Megan McCain, says Lenn Back, she can't answer basic questions
- 3:52Speaker 1: without exploding. Clay Travis Democrats are so upset at the
- 3:57Speaker 1: media being propagandist that they totally lose it when they
- 4:00Speaker 1: ask basic questions. So on and so forth. I am
- 4:03Speaker 1: old enough to remember when Donald Trump walked out of
- 4:05Speaker 1: a CBS interview with Leslie Stall because he didn't like
- 4:08Speaker 1: the questions that she asked. So I mean, is that disqualifying?
- 4:11Speaker 5: Well no, I don't think it's just qualified. But I
- 4:13Speaker 5: will say this is when you I've loved that you
- 4:15Speaker 5: raised the points about those responses because it's been crickets
- 4:18Speaker 5: from the other side on the J. Joes incident where
- 4:21Speaker 5: we see this in me. Okay, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Listen. Let me let me just say. Let me just
- 4:26Speaker 1: say the J. Jones incident is terrible, but it's a
- 4:30Speaker 1: completely different situation that has nothing to do with Katie
- 4:33Speaker 1: Porter's conduct. In an interview with reporters which which Democrats
- 4:38Speaker 1: are criticizing. Democrat criticized, Okay, exact, Okay, let me actually, yes,
- 4:46Speaker 1: can I hold on? Can I name one?
- 4:48Speaker 5: Yes?
- 4:48Speaker 3: I can?
- 4:49Speaker 1: Okay, Javier, but Sara criticized her. What her comments about
- 4:54Speaker 1: the vote, She said, I'm not interested in excluding any votes.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Betty Lee, Betty. After watching the interview, it's clear Katie
- 5:01Speaker 1: Porter doesn't have the temperament to be Governor Antonio Via Garrosa.
- 5:06Speaker 1: We need a leader who will solve hard problems and
- 5:08Speaker 1: answer simple questions.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Why is it I'm talking about the criticism, Why you know.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I'm talking about about you keep bringing up Virginia. It's
- 5:17Speaker 1: a different topic. I'm just saying, you can have that conversation,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but you're not going to bring it into this conversation
- 5:23Speaker 1: when it has nothing to do with Well, here's.
- 5:25Speaker 4: The reality Hill staffers are grossly underpaid and horribly overworked.
- 5:30Speaker 4: They will do anything for their bosses. That staffer was
- 5:34Speaker 4: trying to correct a truth that was on record so
- 5:37Speaker 4: that she wasn't looking badly when it was published, and
- 5:40Speaker 4: her reaction was to cuss her out, by the way,
- 5:43Speaker 4: in front of the sitting Energy Secretary, who is one
- 5:46Speaker 4: of the most unbelievably nice people I've ever met in
- 5:49Speaker 4: my life. And so I think when people see that
- 5:51Speaker 4: and the way she treats those staffers, it gives people
- 5:54Speaker 4: pause about how she will treat those less powerful than
- 5:56Speaker 4: she will, And I think that's a legitimate conversation.
