- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites, the podcast presented by BET three
- 0:12Speaker 1: sixty five. We are part of the Action Network. I
- 0:14Speaker 1: am Chad Millman, Chief Content Officer of the Action Network.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Today is one of our favorite episodes of the off season.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We haven't done one at all because we've been so
- 0:27Speaker 1: busy with so much stuff heading into April, but we
- 0:31Speaker 1: got a window here, so we want to sneak in
- 0:34Speaker 1: a mail bag back by popular demand. Matt Mitchell producer
- 0:40Speaker 1: Matt Mitchell has been collecting questions basically since the end
- 0:44Speaker 1: of the football season that you guys have been wanting
- 0:46Speaker 1: to ask me and my co host, my companion, my compadre,
- 0:52Speaker 1: my BFF, professional better Simon Hunter Eto.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So I meant, Chad, how are you doing in New York?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Brother? It's rainy, you know, as always, apocalyptic weather trending
- 1:07Speaker 1: somewhere in the country, and right now it's in the Midwest,
- 1:11Speaker 1: headed towards the East coast. But listen before we even
- 1:14Speaker 1: get to the questions. And I love our listeners because
- 1:16Speaker 1: they sent in so many good questions, some of which
- 1:19Speaker 1: are tinged with just absolute bitterness. It's like it's like
- 1:24Speaker 1: they are reflecting their feelings in the question they're asking
- 1:29Speaker 1: and in the way they ask the question and in
- 1:31Speaker 1: the language they use to ask the question, hoping that
- 1:35Speaker 1: it will rile us up in our response and we
- 1:37Speaker 1: will ultimately feel the same way. And we were going
- 1:40Speaker 1: over one of the questions, which I can't wait to ask,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and at first we were like, I don't even get
- 1:43Speaker 1: this question, and then within about two minutes we had
- 1:46Speaker 1: a list of things that matched the answer. So I'm
- 1:49Speaker 1: excited to get to that. But first, guy Rams making
- 1:53Speaker 1: a move, Aaron Donald, explain yourself.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Chad, my good insights. I do get. There's always
- 2:02Speaker 2: me a couple of misses. That's just the nature of
- 2:04Speaker 2: the business, especially when you're getting fed by information from
- 2:08Speaker 2: people that are not at the top and they're at
- 2:10Speaker 2: the bottom and they're getting information from people in between. Yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 2: I've gotten some news that the Rams are opened up
- 2:16Speaker 2: some cap space and they were going to pay Aaron
- 2:20Speaker 2: Donald some more guaranteed money off the books so they
- 2:22Speaker 2: could mess around with his contract as well. And I
- 2:25Speaker 2: was like, oh, they're about to sign a big time player.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I thought they're about to be a big time move,
- 2:30Speaker 2: had a couple of different people in mind. Turned out,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I was just completely out of depth. Aaron Donald was
- 2:36Speaker 2: actually retiring, So yeah, painful to a couple of the
- 2:39Speaker 2: fans that reached out and I put into the action
- 2:41Speaker 2: app bet the Rams thirty five to one. A bunch
- 2:44Speaker 2: of people went out there and bed it because I thought, Okay,
- 2:46Speaker 2: they'll make a move here and their odds will move
- 2:48Speaker 2: to thirty to one or maybe a little lower. No,
- 2:51Speaker 2: it was Aaron Donald retiring, and the odds actually stayed
- 2:54Speaker 2: the exact same, which was actually even more shocking that
- 2:57Speaker 2: he didn't change their odds at all. But the Rams
- 2:59Speaker 2: still thirty five the one. I still love them, obviously,
- 3:02Speaker 2: big difference. Now the best player I would say in
- 3:06Speaker 2: my lifetime, he's my Reggie White, my Lawrence Taylor. There's
- 3:11Speaker 2: there's never been anyone like him, any any pro you
- 3:14Speaker 2: talked to. Again, we should ask Chris Long about it.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Apparently those guys knew the first day of practice like this.
- 3:20Speaker 2: They're like this kid came in out at Pittsburgh, this rookie.
- 3:23Speaker 2: They were all blown away, how strong and smart he was.
- 3:26Speaker 2: So yeah, big, big, big loss. Bad bet on my
- 3:30Speaker 2: part taking the Rams there, but still believing them, still
- 3:32Speaker 2: believing that offense, still think they're underrated, but big deal
- 3:36Speaker 2: them getting rid of Aaron Donald him retiring.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Class act for owning it. That's what we do here.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We're transparent. We acknowledge our mistakes. By the way, first
- 3:46Speaker 1: NFL player I ever interviewed Reggie White in a in
- 3:52Speaker 1: a in an empty conference room in the haunted Fister
- 3:58Speaker 1: Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Packers were playing a game
- 4:03Speaker 1: in Milwaukee. They used to do this every year, and
- 4:06Speaker 1: they were playing the Lions. And I was two months
- 4:09Speaker 1: into my career at sports illustrator out of college and
- 4:11Speaker 1: they sent me to this game. I went into the
- 4:14Speaker 1: lobby of the Fister. The Packers were showing up. I
- 4:16Speaker 1: had a time sent with Reggie White and we sat
- 4:20Speaker 1: in a conference room. I recorded it. The first thing
- 4:23Speaker 1: he said to me SI, Do you mean an SI
- 4:26Speaker 1: for kids? Because I looked like I was ten years old.
- 4:30Speaker 1: By the way, producer Matt Mitchell spent his wedding night
- 4:33Speaker 1: at the Fister Hotel in Milwaukee because that's where he lives.

- 5:44Speaker 1: the Action Network YouTube page. All of the questions you
- 5:50Speaker 1: here today were sent to us my listeners over the
- 5:53Speaker 1: past few weeks. As I said, we have not been
- 5:56Speaker 1: able to tackle them on the show. We've been so
- 5:58Speaker 1: busy with guests and draft and free agency. We're so
- 6:02Speaker 1: glad to be diving in today. Thanks to everyone who contributed. Remember,
- 6:06Speaker 1: feedback is a gift. Okay, we've seen this happen. We've
- 6:12Speaker 1: seen teams go into the draft, they make the right
- 6:15Speaker 1: calls in a couple of spots, all of a sudden,
- 6:17Speaker 1: they're world beaters. Simon, what team do you believe right
- 6:23Speaker 1: now is likeliest to change the trajectory of their franchise
- 6:27Speaker 1: in this upcoming draft?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Quarterback league, Chad, So it's pretty easy. It's the Bears, right.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You guys have in your lifetime never really had a
- 6:37Speaker 2: franchise quarterback. You've had really good quarterbacks over the years,
- 6:40Speaker 2: but no one that you know that Peyton Manning, Drew
- 6:44Speaker 2: Brees type where it's like, this guy's going to be
- 6:46Speaker 2: here for ten to fifteen years and we can rely
- 6:48Speaker 2: on them. So yeah, for projecting out all the hype,
- 6:52Speaker 2: all the pressure. It's I can't remember the last player
- 6:56Speaker 2: that really had what you know, Williams is going to
- 6:59Speaker 2: have this upcoming seat. And you guys are a big market,
- 7:02Speaker 2: and I mean, I'm not here to shit on the Bears,
- 7:05Speaker 2: but you guys have been losers since the Super Bowl, right,
- 7:09Speaker 2: Like it is the truth where it's really tough in
- 7:12Speaker 2: your division where Green Bay has been so good and
- 7:16Speaker 2: you always luckily had the Lions's kind of laughing stock
- 7:18Speaker 2: of the division, and that's kind of flipped these last
- 7:21Speaker 2: couple of years, right, you guys have kind of been
- 7:22Speaker 2: the bottom dwellers. So for a franchise that desperately needs
- 7:27Speaker 2: to get back to its glory days of you know,
- 7:30Speaker 2: building a really great defense and then having a really
- 7:32Speaker 2: good offense, the Bears just have not had that since
- 7:36Speaker 2: that Super Bowl run so many years ago, where again
- 7:39Speaker 2: you didn't have a quarterback. You made that run without
- 7:42Speaker 2: really having a quarterback. So it's just it's a quarterback league.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I just can't get over how much Williams could change
- 7:48Speaker 2: not only the NFL, but the city of Chicago's trajectory
- 7:51Speaker 2: and what he can do for this franchise.
- 7:53Speaker 1: The weapons on that Bears super Bowl team that lost
- 7:56Speaker 1: to the Colts, Thomas Jones, Rex Rossman, Devin Hester. It's
- 8:03Speaker 1: a freaking miracle that team got to the Super Bowl
- 8:06Speaker 1: given how bad they were. And you're right about Kayleb Williams.
- 8:11Speaker 1: There's really no other answer to this. I will give
- 8:13Speaker 1: two other answers, but to say about Kayleb Williams, Obviously,
- 8:19Speaker 1: the Bears front office has done an incredible job of
- 8:21Speaker 1: putting the pieces in place so Caleb Williams can have
- 8:25Speaker 1: that amazing impact that otherwise he might not have been
- 8:29Speaker 1: able to have. Right because they got Dj Moore, Because
- 8:32Speaker 1: now they have Keenan Allen, they got Montes Sweat. I'm
- 8:35Speaker 1: still a little bit worried they haven't built up their
- 8:38Speaker 1: offensive line. I'm worried that they haven't found the right
- 8:42Speaker 1: guide to match Montes Sweat on the other side as
- 8:45Speaker 1: an edge rusher. But those things should be relatively replaceable,
- 8:51Speaker 1: or at least they should be something that can be
- 8:53Speaker 1: overcome with the town, like Kayleb Williams. Given that they
- 8:57Speaker 1: will have by the way, DeAndre Swift, and they will
- 8:59Speaker 1: have Keenan Allen, and they will have DJ Moore, and
- 9:03Speaker 1: they will have Cole Kmet. So agree the Bears are
- 9:07Speaker 1: in key position because of Caleb Williams. Two other teams
- 9:10Speaker 1: I'll mention, and this is, Look, it's about volume in
- 9:14Speaker 1: the first round, and how do you want to manage
- 9:17Speaker 1: those picks. So you've got Minnesota picking at eleventh, You've
- 9:21Speaker 1: got Arizona picking at fourth and I think they're picking
- 9:24Speaker 1: something like twenty something and Minnesota is also picking in
- 9:28Speaker 1: the twenty something range. So you've got Minnesota with the
- 9:32Speaker 1: ability to what could Drake May all of a sudden
- 9:36Speaker 1: slip down? Do they love JJ McCarthy? Could Arizona get
- 9:41Speaker 1: Marvin Harrison junior and then get something else of great
- 9:45Speaker 1: value later in the round in positions that the draft
- 9:48Speaker 1: is really deep at right now. So those are also
- 9:51Speaker 1: two very interesting teams that could change their trajectory. If
- 9:57Speaker 1: I had a handicap it, I'd say Minnesota more likely
- 9:59Speaker 1: to do it in Arizona. What say you?
- 10:02Speaker 2: I like that? Again, it's always the quarterbacks. Another team
- 10:05Speaker 2: is if if Daniels comes in and people are projecting
- 10:07Speaker 2: to be a Lamar type. We remember Lamar those early years, right,
- 10:12Speaker 2: He did a lot of running, but he was very
- 10:14Speaker 2: impactful when he joined Baltimore. So that's another team. The
- 10:17Speaker 2: Commanders with all the talent they have if they take
- 10:19Speaker 2: him or Drake May also, It's like these guys could
- 10:22Speaker 2: flip these turn these teams around. Like Chad just said,
- 10:25Speaker 2: CJ last year, no one would have seen what he
- 10:28Speaker 2: was going to do on Houston, right, No one could
- 10:30Speaker 2: have foreseen how you know, great he was going to
- 10:33Speaker 2: be right out of college coming in there, and the
- 10:35Speaker 2: same thing could happen here where Houston were just spinning
- 10:38Speaker 2: their tires for years after the whole Watson debacle. Right,
- 10:42Speaker 2: it was four or five years of spinning their tires
- 10:44Speaker 2: and just being number one, number two, number three. Taking
- 10:46Speaker 2: the draft, they get the guy and the first year
- 10:50Speaker 2: he gets them to the playoffs and then wins a
- 10:51Speaker 2: playoff game at home. So, like Chad said, all these
- 10:54Speaker 2: teams can completely change their franchise just hitting on the
- 10:56Speaker 2: right quarterback in this upcoming.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Draft to Carlo and Minnesota have much to gain. I
- 11:02Speaker 1: think the Commanders and the Patriots, I think they're just
- 11:06Speaker 1: further away coming in with rookie coaches. I mean, we
- 11:08Speaker 1: saw it with Damiko Ryans and what he was able
- 11:11Speaker 1: to do. But they also got the edge rusher and
- 11:13Speaker 1: Will Anderson to help sort of mitigate some of the
- 11:16Speaker 1: defensive challenges, So we'll see, we'll see bear down. This
- 11:21Speaker 1: was one of my favorite questions, and this, like the
- 11:26Speaker 1: disgust is in the question Simon as a gambler, who
- 11:34Speaker 1: would you call the biggest disgrace in the NFL right now?
- 11:41Speaker 1: And we were able to write down a couple of
- 11:43Speaker 1: answers for this, and I want you to be able
- 11:48Speaker 1: to answer first, who would you say is the biggest
- 11:50Speaker 1: disgrace in the NFL right now?
- 11:54Speaker 2: I would say, just just from last season, like what
- 11:57Speaker 2: who burned me the most? And I really thought of
- 11:59Speaker 2: it since we talked about it. There's no one else
- 12:03Speaker 2: for me than Bryce Young, Like I was so right
- 12:05Speaker 2: about this guy the whole offseason, and then I thought
- 12:08Speaker 2: the league had gone too far of the hate. Midway
- 12:11Speaker 2: through this season. I was like, this guy is not
- 12:12Speaker 2: as bad as everyone thinks he is. The line shouldn't
- 12:15Speaker 2: be what it is, right, He's been undervalued. Bryce Youungk's
- 12:17Speaker 2: not as bad as people keep saying he is. Carolina's
- 12:19Speaker 2: not as bad they are, And they were as bad
- 12:23Speaker 2: as everyone said they were. To me, the biggest disgrace
- 12:25Speaker 2: Slasher that Carolina team. They totally gave up. And again
- 12:28Speaker 2: it's not Bryce Young's fault, but I put it on
- 12:30Speaker 2: his shoulders just because he did not improve his season
- 12:34Speaker 2: and went along. He regressed the season went along, So
- 12:37Speaker 2: for me from the gambling perspective, I would definitely go
- 12:39Speaker 2: and Bryce Young.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Well, you know what's funny is when we first started
- 12:42Speaker 1: talking about this, how did I forget Bryce Young? I
- 12:47Speaker 1: didn't even think about him? In fact that he looked
- 12:49Speaker 1: like he was a peewee football player back there, and
- 12:53Speaker 1: there was only I think, and they look they killed
- 12:56Speaker 1: us every week right like we always thought they were.
- 13:00Speaker 1: They were undervalued in every single line. How could they
- 13:04Speaker 1: be this bad? How could they be this much of
- 13:06Speaker 1: an underdog against this team? And just about every single week,
- 13:11Speaker 1: not just Bryce Young, the entire team found ways to
- 13:15Speaker 1: give the game away and give away the cover. I'll
- 13:18Speaker 1: give you a different one. We talked about the Browns.
- 13:23Speaker 1: You mentioned the Browns, and the other answer. Brown's a
- 13:27Speaker 1: little bit of a disgrace just in the way they've
- 13:28Speaker 1: handled the Dejahn Watson thing and how it may have
- 13:32Speaker 1: handicapped their team four years to come if he can't
- 13:35Speaker 1: become the player that he is. But we still want
- 13:38Speaker 1: some money on the Browns last year single biggest disgrace
- 13:43Speaker 1: has to be Todd Monkin, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator in
- 13:49Speaker 1: the AFC Championship game. We love the Ravens. In that game,
- 13:54Speaker 1: we got burned. Look what were they seen in that
- 14:00Speaker 1: game that made them think they just could not run
- 14:03Speaker 1: the ball anymore against Kansas City Chiefs. That is still
- 14:06Speaker 1: something that leaves a little bit of a hole in
- 14:08Speaker 1: my soul.
- 14:10Speaker 2: No, it's we talked about it that after the game.
- 14:12Speaker 2: It's the Mahomes effect. He just him him driving the
- 14:15Speaker 2: field scoring a touchdown, them driving the Field's going to
- 14:17Speaker 2: touch on him going right back down the field, my
- 14:19Speaker 2: home scoring a touchdown. It really did shock them, Like
- 14:23Speaker 2: you just said, they completely went off what they usually do.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And they came back out after they're right They're down
- 14:28Speaker 2: fourteen seven to this point. Three straight passes I believe
- 14:31Speaker 2: from Lamar three and out and that was I mean game,
- 14:35Speaker 2: that was just a game. It just they never wanted
- 14:37Speaker 2: to get back into rhythm and run the ball. They
- 14:39Speaker 2: kept winning Lamar to win the game for him, And
- 14:41Speaker 2: like you said, Chad, it's harder to think of a
- 14:44Speaker 2: bigger disgrace on the coaching side. Maybe Josh McDaniel's right,
- 14:47Speaker 2: the biggest joke in the league, but it's pretty close.
- 14:49Speaker 2: For this guy had the perfect car, everything was perfect,
- 14:53Speaker 2: and he just he couldn't drive it right. He just
- 14:57Speaker 2: lost his mind there on the field against Mahomes Andy Reid,
- 14:59Speaker 2: And like you said, it's that's something that Raves are
- 15:02Speaker 2: had to live with forever, because I do still think
- 15:04Speaker 2: they were the best team in all football last year.
- 15:06Speaker 2: They had the best offense, best defense. The rematch against Fortiners.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Who knows right, they could have shown up and played differently,
- 15:13Speaker 2: but we already saw that matchup earlier in the year
- 15:15Speaker 2: where everything that forty Anders would have done, I feel
- 15:18Speaker 2: like the Ravens could have counted it. So yeah, if
- 15:20Speaker 2: you're a Ravens fan, you're still sick to the stay
- 15:21Speaker 2: because it feels like you left a ring on the
- 15:23Speaker 2: field there.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Well, not just left a ring on the field, but
- 15:25Speaker 1: you might have lost, like the window may have closed
- 15:28Speaker 1: there and having the advantage in the division. Right, because
- 15:33Speaker 1: we've talked about this so often. We love the Bengals
- 15:37Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. We love Joe Burrow coming back,
- 15:41Speaker 1: We love lou Ammarillo coming back. We love that the
- 15:45Speaker 1: team is relatively intact. We know that they lost their
- 15:49Speaker 1: offensive coordinator in Brian Callahan, but it was Zach Taylor
- 15:54Speaker 1: who's calling the plays for that team. So this is
- 15:58Speaker 1: a team that is getting better without having to spend
- 16:01Speaker 1: a ton of money to get better, just by virtue
- 16:03Speaker 1: of Joe Burrow and by the way Jake Browning showed up.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So the Ravens kind of may have missed the window
- 16:11Speaker 1: and they've gotten a little bit older and maybe not
- 16:13Speaker 1: as good as they were last year, while the rest
- 16:16Speaker 1: of the division has improved. Simon, it's the perfect transition
- 16:23Speaker 1: to our next question. Tons of injuries taking place in
- 16:29Speaker 1: the NFL last season, we saw an enormous number of
- 16:33Speaker 1: quarterbacks start games. I think it was sixty six starting
- 16:36Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the league. Of all quarterbacks who started a
- 16:39Speaker 1: game last year, who is one or a few you
- 16:43Speaker 1: would never bet on with your own money. I got
- 16:47Speaker 1: a little bit of a list. Do you want me
- 16:48Speaker 1: to go first? Or do you want to go first?
- 16:50Speaker 1: Because I'm going to expand I'm going to expand this question.
- 16:53Speaker 1: We're going to start with the ones we will never
- 16:55Speaker 1: bet on again. But then I also want to go
- 16:58Speaker 1: like the backups, who who we think we would still
- 17:02Speaker 1: bet on based on performance, situation history.
- 17:07Speaker 2: And it is all a situation where I tried not
- 17:09Speaker 2: to hold things against guys what they did before. I mean, hell,
- 17:13Speaker 2: I think one of our bigger bets last year was
- 17:15Speaker 2: taking I don't know, it wasn't maybe on the side,
- 17:20Speaker 2: but like there's always there are signs where backups come
- 17:22Speaker 2: in and me and you kind of stick to well,
- 17:24Speaker 2: we're kind of playing the team here in this spot.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I think it was when the Eagles went go play
- 17:28Speaker 2: against Seattle and it was in Seattle, and you know,
- 17:32Speaker 2: no one wanted to take Drew Locke. He was a
- 17:33Speaker 2: pretty big dog, and we just kept saying, this number
- 17:36Speaker 2: is too big. Though, like that number is too big.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Did we think he was gonna beat the Eagles outright? No,
- 17:41Speaker 2: But that was a classic case. So we played the
- 17:43Speaker 2: number putting the round robin and it hit. So there
- 17:46Speaker 2: is a breaking point where there are a number because honestly,
- 17:48Speaker 2: me and you hated that kid. I mean, he lost
- 17:50Speaker 2: us so much money on Denver. But I eventually moved
- 17:53Speaker 2: past that stuff. But for me, I really don't care
- 17:55Speaker 2: about the number. It's all about the individual. I just
- 17:58Speaker 2: can't bet on Marcus Mariot if you going to come
- 18:00Speaker 2: in and play a game for the Commanders next year,
- 18:02Speaker 2: I honestly have zero to no faith at backing him,
- 18:05Speaker 2: especially with that bad of an offensive line. Just watching
- 18:07Speaker 2: him on the Eagles too, the guy is so inconsistent
- 18:10Speaker 2: as a passer. Marcus Mariota is right up there. Of
- 18:14Speaker 2: I really don't care about the number. It's almost ninety
- 18:17Speaker 2: nine percent guaranteed. I will not bet on him if
- 18:19Speaker 2: he's the starting quarterback.
- 18:20Speaker 1: All right, See that's interesting. I haven't even written Marcus
- 18:23Speaker 1: Mariota down. But if you were to ask me right now,
- 18:27Speaker 1: we'll get to next season, and you're right. When a
- 18:30Speaker 1: backup quarterbacks that comes in as better as in as gamblers,
- 18:35Speaker 1: we often will bet on the backup quarterback because the
- 18:37Speaker 1: line gets so over adjusted that there's huge value on
- 18:43Speaker 1: taking the backup quarterback. But there's a certain quintet of
- 18:51Speaker 1: backup quarterbacks you cannot get me to bet on them,
- 18:55Speaker 1: no matter how good their team is. Number one, I'll
- 19:00Speaker 1: take Mark's Mariota. Number two, Desmond Ridder. You didn't mention
- 19:07Speaker 1: Desmond Ridder. Okay, I don't know if.
- 19:10Speaker 2: He's been a number two. I don't know if he's
- 19:11Speaker 2: the actual backup. He might be third.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Well, but he'll still be a backup, all right.
- 19:16Speaker 2: So it's true. That's true.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Has been Riddard, Desmond Ridder, Mitch Truebisky. That hurts me
- 19:22Speaker 1: to say it. I so wanted him to be in
- 19:25Speaker 1: the right spot with the Steelers. Mitch Truebisky, Zach Wilson,
- 19:33Speaker 1: Trevor Simeon. Five guys, five guys who no matter what
- 19:39Speaker 1: the value is, it is either a pass or on
- 19:42Speaker 1: playing the biggest number in the history of the NFL.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Again, it's tough though. Where Zach Wilson, I agree,
- 19:51Speaker 2: like he burned me a lot last year, but he
- 19:53Speaker 2: also he won us. Some games are really good to us.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Another guy who Eagles, where I believe nine and oh
- 19:58Speaker 2: at the time we bet Zach Wilson and to upset
- 20:01Speaker 2: the Eagles and he beat that out right and that
- 20:03Speaker 2: that bills Week one game chat, I know you remember it.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Oh yeah, a ton of money on the Jets. Aaron
- 20:08Speaker 2: Rodgers goes down and comes Zach Wilson and he just
- 20:10Speaker 2: does enough. Again, it was more about Josh Allen being bad,
- 20:14Speaker 2: but Zach Wilson did enough to get that win. So
- 20:18Speaker 2: all those guys on that list. I probably have the
- 20:20Speaker 2: least ill will towards him. But the other names you mentioned, Yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 2: anytime Trevor Simen comes in, it's usual an auto fait
- 20:28Speaker 2: on the other side.
- 20:29Speaker 1: All right, you you have to bet one of these.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You have to bet one of these two quarterbacks to
- 20:38Speaker 1: win the Favorites Contest one and twenty thousand dollars Pro
- 20:43Speaker 1: Football Pick Him Contest, presented by Bet three six five. Okay,
- 20:48Speaker 1: are you ready? Yeah, Zach Wilson or Drew Lock.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yes, I would, I would. If they're at home, I
- 20:57Speaker 2: would take true Lock. I just Zach Wilson. The lights
- 21:00Speaker 2: just always feel too bright for him, don't they where
- 21:03Speaker 2: I just I'm in the I had the vision. I
- 21:05Speaker 2: know he's drove the field at one games before, Zach Wilson,
- 21:07Speaker 2: but that Drew Lock him driving the field against the Eagles.
- 21:10Speaker 2: It was incredible. You literally drove the entire field on
- 21:12Speaker 2: that game winning drives. So I know Zach Wilson's had
- 21:15Speaker 2: some moments, but I guess I'll go with Drew Lock.
- 21:18Speaker 2: He should be more over his incredibly weird and up
- 21:21Speaker 2: and down career.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Other than Patrick Mahomes, you have one quarterback to win
- 21:27Speaker 1: the Favorites contest one hundred and twenty thousand dollars Pro
- 21:31Speaker 1: Football Pick hum contest from bet three six five. You
- 21:34Speaker 1: need to win this game to win the money. Who
- 21:39Speaker 1: is the quarterback you'll bet on? And it can't be
- 21:44Speaker 1: It can't be Patrick Mahomes.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I would be least mad about Joe Burrow where Joe
- 21:52Speaker 2: Joe just got that that factor of he rarely makes
- 21:57Speaker 2: the really dumb mistakes that Josh Allen does in the
- 21:59Speaker 2: red S. So yeah, for me, there's so many times
- 22:04Speaker 2: we're I'll bet on Josh Allen. I'll be like, of course,
- 22:05Speaker 2: he threw that pick in the end zone. That's just
- 22:07Speaker 2: what Josh Allen does. I don't really have anything visceral
- 22:10Speaker 2: role like that thought with Joe Burrow. Usually Joe's making
- 22:12Speaker 2: the right decisions. Even when his offensive line was nothing
- 22:17Speaker 2: and he was getting no time, he almost always made
- 22:19Speaker 2: the right decision underneath pressure. So yeah, if I'm going
- 22:22Speaker 2: for a comfort level, there's no one compared to I
- 22:25Speaker 2: told you that best sleep in my entire life. I've
- 22:27Speaker 2: never had that kind of sleep before that Super Bowl.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Just betting on my homes before the Super Bowl? Was
- 22:31Speaker 2: you fork? I guess I've had it kind of with
- 22:33Speaker 2: Tom Brady, but nothing close to that with Mahomes. I
- 22:36Speaker 2: would say in the league right now, the closest feeling
- 22:38Speaker 2: is Joe Burrow.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I agree with you. I was going to say, Joe Burrow.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Question for Simon, when do you get involved in betting
- 22:46Speaker 1: the NBA and does the return of Joel and be
- 22:49Speaker 1: it excite you as a Sixers fan.
- 22:52Speaker 2: NBA. I dabble here and there, but for pennies, I
- 22:55Speaker 2: don't really get into it. After March Mounts he had
- 22:57Speaker 2: like playoffs, I'll really get into it. But you know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: I have people feeding me picks. People I work with
- 23:02Speaker 2: in my syndicate. They're doing NBA. So if they got picks.
- 23:05Speaker 2: If I see, you know, a Greended Daily episode and
- 23:08Speaker 2: the guys are talking up you know, our guy j
- 23:10Speaker 2: Money's talking up some line he likes an NBA game,
- 23:13Speaker 2: If I'm like, you know what, I like that, I'll
- 23:14Speaker 2: bet it. But I don't watch it enough to really
- 23:16Speaker 2: know enough about it. But Joel embiid I'm a hater,
- 23:20Speaker 2: doesn't move the needle for me. I just keep taking
- 23:23Speaker 2: back to the Michael Jordan doc, him talking about getting
- 23:27Speaker 2: his body back in the NBA shape and how hard
- 23:29Speaker 2: it was to get his body back in the NBA shape.
- 23:31Speaker 2: And that's what I think with it with Embiid. Embiid,
- 23:34Speaker 2: he has to get his body back in the NBA
- 23:35Speaker 2: shape now in the next month or two before the playoffs.
- 23:38Speaker 2: It's gonna be really tough. I mean, he's such a
- 23:40Speaker 2: big guy. So I'm just I'm a better Sixers fan,
- 23:43Speaker 2: like I've only could take so many second round exits
- 23:46Speaker 2: with Joel Embiid that to get excited anymore. So even
- 23:48Speaker 2: if we do limp in yeah, if we upset the
- 23:51Speaker 2: Boston Celtics and they're the one seed where the eighth seed, yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 2: I'll be fired up. But deep down, I don't have
- 23:57Speaker 2: any faith. That's just that's just a bitter sixerss I am.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Right now, this next question, I love your most memorable
- 24:07Speaker 1: NFL draft moment as both a fan and as a gambler.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm going to go first. I know this sounds crazy,
- 24:18Speaker 1: but the euphoria I'm gonna go with recent draft history.
- 24:23Speaker 1: The euphoria we felt in my house when Justin Fields
- 24:26Speaker 1: was drafted by the Bears. It's we had the same
- 24:31Speaker 1: reaction as when the Cubs won the World Series, like
- 24:35Speaker 1: the jumping up and down, the screaming. It meant so
- 24:41Speaker 1: much to us as Bears fans because the Bears made
- 24:44Speaker 1: a move to get into that and the Bears historically
- 24:49Speaker 1: are not great in the front office, are not great
- 24:52Speaker 1: at identifying talent, are not great at being aggressive to
- 24:56Speaker 1: make moves they think will make them better. Now, in hindsight,
- 25:00Speaker 1: it wasn't the move that made them better, but the
- 25:03Speaker 1: fact that in that moment they were aggressive and did
- 25:06Speaker 1: the maneuvering you need to do to get someone that
- 25:09Speaker 1: we all thought would be great. It was a real
- 25:12Speaker 1: warm moment, Like I think about hugging my kid, like
- 25:15Speaker 1: we were screaming and yelling. The dog is going crazy.
- 25:20Speaker 1: So that's a big moment as a fan. That's why
- 25:22Speaker 1: I'm I'm so upset it's over, moving on to Kayleb Williams,
- 25:26Speaker 1: but I still remember it fondly. I know what you're
- 25:28Speaker 1: gonna say as a gambler, so I want you to
- 25:31Speaker 1: take that one.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. As a fan, I'm in the same as you.
- 25:36Speaker 2: I think it'd either be McNabb or Carson Wentz. Whenever
- 25:39Speaker 2: you get the franchise quarterback, it's the best. Carson Wentz.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I probably watched all of his film for three months
- 25:46Speaker 2: leading up to the season, just I could not stop
- 25:48Speaker 2: reading about him, watching film on them. I was literally
- 25:51Speaker 2: hooked once the Eagles drafted, just because when you draft
- 25:53Speaker 2: that high, you expect the best things ever of this quarterback.
- 25:56Speaker 2: So definitely Carson Wentz for me as a yeah, I
- 26:00Speaker 2: would say in my media career, my definitely my experience
- 26:04Speaker 2: shared with you with the Trey Lance and people on
- 26:06Speaker 2: this show was really fun, like calling my shot that
- 26:10Speaker 2: you know, all these people in media were lying to
- 26:13Speaker 2: people and that they were wrong and there was not
- 26:15Speaker 2: any real love for Mac Jones going at number three,
- 26:17Speaker 2: and it was all Trey Lance that that was really
- 26:19Speaker 2: fun and profitable. I made a lot of money off it.
- 26:21Speaker 2: But my my biggest win, probably before media joining media,
- 26:26Speaker 2: was that Baker Sam Donald Josh Allen draft. I could
- 26:31Speaker 2: not stop betting enough on Sam Darnald not being the
- 26:33Speaker 2: number one pick. So it was basically anybody but Sam
- 26:37Speaker 2: Donald being the number one pick. I was gonna win
- 26:39Speaker 2: a bunch of money, and little did I know it
- 26:41Speaker 2: was going to be a Baker. I just I thought
- 26:43Speaker 2: the whole time it was gonna be Josh Allen and
- 26:46Speaker 2: pretty shocking it was Baker Mayfield. So yeah, I would
- 26:51Speaker 2: say for money wise, probably that draft, but definitely most
- 26:56Speaker 2: fun I've ever had was that Trey Lance draft.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Is guys who were actively betting when Jim Harbaugh was
- 27:02Speaker 1: last in the NFL. How do you feel about his return?
- 27:04Speaker 1: From a gambling point of view, more predictable unders, more
- 27:09Speaker 1: consistent play from the Chargers, potential player mutiny over his
- 27:14Speaker 1: raw ross style. I've thought so much about this because
- 27:18Speaker 1: I know it's hard not to pull the trigger on
- 27:22Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh, who was won everywhere and turned his teams
- 27:25Speaker 1: around quickly, whether it was University of San Diego, whether
- 27:28Speaker 1: it was Stanford, whether it was the Niners, whether it
- 27:31Speaker 1: was back to Michigan, where he ironically had the most
- 27:35Speaker 1: struggles before he turned that team into a jugg ornaut.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I wanted to be betting on Jim Harribaugh, but the
- 27:41Speaker 1: value wasn't there, and then they started losing all their
- 27:43Speaker 1: players and they got a lot of cap space. I
- 27:45Speaker 1: don't think the issue with Harbo is ever going to
- 27:47Speaker 1: be his players. His players love him. It's always with
- 27:49Speaker 1: his bosses. He's a crazy person and like he's hard
- 27:52Speaker 1: to get along with and that's what forced him to
- 27:56Speaker 1: leave the Niners. He couldn't get along with the front
- 27:59Speaker 1: office he had worn as welcome out in Michigan. He
- 28:02Speaker 1: won the titles in spite of the fact he had
- 28:04Speaker 1: worn as welcome out there. They were trying to run
- 28:06Speaker 1: him out of town. So the issue will be with
- 28:08Speaker 1: management out with his players. But my expectations are pretty
- 28:12Speaker 1: low for this Chargers team.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they'll be bad this year. No expectation.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I mean to meetcha, I talk a little bit ago
- 28:19Speaker 2: when I put a future on them, and it's no,
- 28:21Speaker 2: They're the type of team I can't wait to bet
- 28:23Speaker 2: next year in the future for the future market. But yeah,
- 28:27Speaker 2: if you're a Chargers fan, i'd be elated. Like this
- 28:30Speaker 2: guy is to me one of the best organizational builders
- 28:33Speaker 2: you can possibly have. Whatever talent you have, he will
- 28:37Speaker 2: get the most out of it. And you know, Kaepernick
- 28:41Speaker 2: is not this great quarterback, but he was good. And
- 28:45Speaker 2: you know, Harball was able to highlight his great ability.
- 28:48Speaker 2: I mean that's what he's so special at. So yeah,
- 28:51Speaker 2: it's his predictability. Everything he does. I just like, especially
- 28:54Speaker 2: as a better I know exactly what I'm getting, Like
- 28:57Speaker 2: his team. They match up a certain way. He likes
- 28:59Speaker 2: to run the all a certain way. It is all
- 29:02Speaker 2: very predictable, so compared to their last coach. Yes, I
- 29:06Speaker 2: am very excited as a gambler. He has a lot
- 29:09Speaker 2: of patterns and a lot of things he does. But
- 29:12Speaker 2: the biggest thing is I just think it's excited for
- 29:14Speaker 2: someone like Herbert that has so much potential and talent.
- 29:18Speaker 2: If he is really as good as we think he is,
- 29:20Speaker 2: hardball will be able to get the best out of him.
- 29:22Speaker 2: So yeah, pretty excited as a fan.
- 29:24Speaker 1: By the way, I think Matt Mitchell just put something
- 29:26Speaker 1: in our script to tell me that players on the
- 29:30Speaker 1: Niners and Michigan complained about Jim Harbaugh all the time. Whatever.
- 29:35Speaker 1: As a leader, I don't hear players complaints. Simon, can
- 29:41Speaker 1: you name the fastest growing ticketing app in the United States?
- 29:44Speaker 2: Game Time?
- 29:46Speaker 1: That's right, It's Game Time. I love Game Time for
- 29:48Speaker 1: two reasons. First, they still sponsor this show. Second, actually
- 29:52Speaker 1: I use game Time all the time. They have amazing
- 29:56Speaker 1: last minute deals, including pro in college sports speak, which
- 30:00Speaker 1: I'm actually opening the game Time app right now from
- 30:03Speaker 1: our office here in New York City. And guess what
- 30:06Speaker 1: I can get in to see the red hot streaking
- 30:11Speaker 1: New York Yankees for like one hundred and twenty bucks
- 30:14Speaker 1: go up to the Bronx see the Yankees. But no
- 30:16Speaker 1: matter where you live, download the game Time app get
- 30:19Speaker 1: out have some fun this week. You deserve it. You
- 30:21Speaker 1: can redeem code favorites for twenty dollars off for his
- 30:23Speaker 1: purchase terms apply again. Just download the game Time app
- 30:25Speaker 1: and use code favorites for twenty dollars off your first purchase.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed. If you could have
- 30:34Speaker 1: played Simon for any current or former NFL owner, who
- 30:39Speaker 1: would you choose?
- 30:41Speaker 2: I love history, I love crazy, weird personality, so I
- 30:44Speaker 2: gotta go without Davis. He's like the weirdest dude ever.
- 30:47Speaker 2: His big ass yellow teeth and him just saying crazy
- 30:50Speaker 2: stuff that's sometimes racist, but he's just he's from a
- 30:54Speaker 2: different world. Like I would have loved to experience a
- 30:57Speaker 2: guy like that who had been around so many different personalities,
- 31:00Speaker 2: just picking his brain about all the old days with Joe,
- 31:02Speaker 2: Matt and just all the different players he's had through
- 31:05Speaker 2: those doors. It's just it's crazy. His perspective on everything
- 31:08Speaker 2: would be wild. So yeah, if I was looking for
- 31:11Speaker 2: someone that would just be an insane time to hang
- 31:13Speaker 2: around and get to know he would definitely be way
- 31:15Speaker 2: up there, Al Davis.
- 31:17Speaker 1: So the next question someone asked is, if you could
- 31:19Speaker 1: have played for any current or former NFL coach, who
- 31:22Speaker 1: would you choose. So I'm going to answer both of
- 31:25Speaker 1: these questions in tandem. I would have played quarterback for
- 31:32Speaker 1: Bill Walsh under the ownership of Eddie de Bartolo.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Love it.
- 31:40Speaker 1: How does it get better than that?
- 31:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I mean, you are playing in the West Coast, You're
- 31:46Speaker 1: playing in a revolutionary offense, You're playing with a genius coach,
- 31:50Speaker 1: and you're playing for an owner who may or may
- 31:53Speaker 1: not be connected and may or may not treat his
- 31:56Speaker 1: team as if it is the Tiffany of franchises and
- 32:00Speaker 1: just does not care about spending the money and wants
- 32:04Speaker 1: them to have the best of everything. That was literally
- 32:08Speaker 1: high flying days for the San Francisco forty nine ers
- 32:11Speaker 1: in the eighties. Bill Walsh's coach Eddie de Barlow as
- 32:16Speaker 1: the owner.
- 32:17Speaker 2: This is I would say, this is painful to say
- 32:20Speaker 2: I'll go with I'll go with Troy Aikman if I'm
- 32:23Speaker 2: going there just because you got the owner you got
- 32:25Speaker 2: the cool coach. That was probably as good of a
- 32:28Speaker 2: time as you can have in the nineties playing on
- 32:30Speaker 2: that Dallas team where I can't imagine the parties Jerry
- 32:33Speaker 2: Jones was throwing. But then going to key West with
- 32:36Speaker 2: your head coach and having beers and ride around in
- 32:38Speaker 2: his boat was probably a pretty damn good time. So yeah,
- 32:41Speaker 2: as much as I love to shit on Dallas, that
- 32:43Speaker 2: would have been pretty fun to be Troy Aikman in
- 32:44Speaker 2: the nineties.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Well, look, I know I'll always bring back things that
- 32:49Speaker 1: I covered at one point or another over the past
- 32:52Speaker 1: thirty years as an old person. Don't forget. I basically
- 32:57Speaker 1: was in the Cowboys locker room in the nineties every
- 33:00Speaker 1: week during the football season. There was one year that
- 33:04Speaker 1: Sports Illustrated when I was working there my first or
- 33:07Speaker 1: second year, we went down and did an entire week
- 33:10Speaker 1: with the Cowboys. The whole issue was about that. It
- 33:13Speaker 1: was me and Rick Tellender, who was the writer, and
- 33:16Speaker 1: we were all over the place. From in the locker
- 33:18Speaker 1: room with Troy Aikman when he's complaining about the league
- 33:21Speaker 1: and sort of silly silly rules that they have, I
- 33:24Speaker 1: was with there was a safety Bill Bates who was
- 33:27Speaker 1: a Pro Bowl special teamer, and I went home with
- 33:30Speaker 1: him one night after practice to be with him and
- 33:32Speaker 1: his family and was there when his wife told him
- 33:34Speaker 1: they were having I think their third or fourth kid,
- 33:38Speaker 1: and those were I would go to this like sports
- 33:42Speaker 1: bar where all the cowboys hung out, and they were
- 33:46Speaker 1: all there all the time, playing pool, drinking like those
- 33:51Speaker 1: were heady drug field days. They were pretty freaking insane.
- 33:55Speaker 1: It was. That was a crazy life going to clubs
- 33:59Speaker 1: with them. Oh my god, Like I remember going to
- 34:01Speaker 1: clubs with like this backup running back on the Cowboys.
- 34:04Speaker 1: It was just you were living in Dallas in the
- 34:08Speaker 1: nineties playing for the Cowboys. That was something special, probably
- 34:11Speaker 1: like living probably like living in San Francisco and playing
- 34:13Speaker 1: for the Niners in the eighties. All Right, here's a
- 34:15Speaker 1: very important question. You and I are both going to
- 34:18Speaker 1: have different perspectives on this. Where do you think, and
- 34:21Speaker 1: this has been a crazy few weeks for sports betting,
- 34:24Speaker 1: where do you think the state of sports betting is headed?
- 34:26Speaker 1: We've seen enormous shifts in the six years since PASSBO
- 34:29Speaker 1: was repealed, some good, some bad. What do you think
- 34:32Speaker 1: the landscape will look like in the next six years,
- 34:36Speaker 1: say twenty thirty. By the way, PASSPAZ the Professional Amateur
- 34:39Speaker 1: Sports Protection Act for those who are new to the show,
- 34:42Speaker 1: that is the law that was a federal betting band
- 34:45Speaker 1: that the Supreme Court repealed in May of twenty eighteen
- 34:48Speaker 1: and open the floodgates and all this state by state
- 34:50Speaker 1: legal sports betting. Do you want to start?
- 34:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say it's gonna keep getting better. I mean,
- 34:58Speaker 2: these are the early days, and it's just there's gonna
- 35:02Speaker 2: be a lot of speed bumps. A lot of people
- 35:04Speaker 2: are gonna ruin their lives and it's sad, but it's
- 35:08Speaker 2: just gonna be an over adjustment to what it was before,
- 35:10Speaker 2: which is, you know, it was just different. Like the
- 35:16Speaker 2: thing I think is really funny is people are like
- 35:19Speaker 2: lookouts gamblings ruined in sports as if there wasn't a
- 35:22Speaker 2: billion dollar business in the shadows for the last I
- 35:25Speaker 2: don't know, one hundred years. It's just a very lame
- 35:28Speaker 2: take and it's lazy. There's just a lot of lazy
- 35:31Speaker 2: takes in media about the sports betting stuff. But I
- 35:35Speaker 2: like it. I think it's good. Everything's above boarded For
- 35:37Speaker 2: someone like me, I still can do the offshore market,
- 35:40Speaker 2: do whatever I want while still doing legal stuff. For
- 35:43Speaker 2: Joe Schmoe that doesn't know the local guy down the street,
- 35:46Speaker 2: it's good for him if he wants to put ten
- 35:47Speaker 2: bucks on his favorite team. That's what I'm here for.
- 35:49Speaker 2: I'm here for responsible gambling, what people want to do.
- 35:53Speaker 2: That kind of stuff. It's great. But when you hear
- 35:54Speaker 2: the horror stories, yeah, it makes my skin crawl, where
- 35:57Speaker 2: it's like it's someone with a disease that doesn't know
- 35:59Speaker 2: to handle and they've ruined their lives and maybe their
- 36:01Speaker 2: family's lives. It's heartbreaking. But I like it now because
- 36:04Speaker 2: it's all above board, like them catching that guy it's
- 36:07Speaker 2: a round though, raptor that. Yeah, I like that. I'm
- 36:11Speaker 2: so happy they're catching these guys because that's they ruin
- 36:14Speaker 2: it for people. That's that's my issue, is that like
- 36:16Speaker 2: the shady stuff going on by the scenes, it ruins it.
- 36:19Speaker 2: And that's why I love that it's above board now
- 36:20Speaker 2: they're catching these people trying to do this stuff. These
- 36:22Speaker 2: I mean, I remember there was that crazy story last
- 36:24Speaker 2: year about that baseball coach going doing all these weird
- 36:26Speaker 2: bets and doing us crazy stuff they called them. And
- 36:29Speaker 2: that's what I like now because the mafia. They would
- 36:32Speaker 2: have just made him disappear. There isn't some news story
- 36:34Speaker 2: about it. This is it's just a blimp on the map.
- 36:38Speaker 2: So I think it's just different where in Europe they're
- 36:41Speaker 2: obviously way ahead of US. America has a lot of
- 36:42Speaker 2: catching up to do. But you don't hear about it
- 36:44Speaker 2: being a huge problem in Europe. Right, It's just it
- 36:47Speaker 2: just becomes a part of life. I think eventually it'll
- 36:50Speaker 2: become a part of life, but that's probably gonna take
- 36:51Speaker 2: another ten, fifteen, twenty years.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I agree with you. Look, this has been a crazy
- 36:58Speaker 1: couple of weeks for sports betting in general, and the
- 37:02Speaker 1: coverage of sports betting between Johntay Porter and Otani and
- 37:08Speaker 1: there have been a series of stories in places like
- 37:10Speaker 1: The Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker about is
- 37:15Speaker 1: it good for sports? Is it bad for sports? I
- 37:18Speaker 1: will always come back to what you just said. It's
- 37:21Speaker 1: always been there. It just existed in the shadows. It
- 37:25Speaker 1: hasn't changed anything. There have been gambling scandals nineteen nineteen,
- 37:31Speaker 1: nineteen fifties, nineteen sixties, nineteen eighties, nineteen nineties, like Tim
- 37:39Speaker 1: Donaghy in the two thousands, like these things have always
- 37:43Speaker 1: been around because.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Google, Google, inter Milan and referees. I mean, it just
- 37:47Speaker 2: happened literally a couple of years ago.
- 37:49Speaker 1: People like in Europe, it's not going to go away.
- 37:54Speaker 1: It's too intertwined at this point. Bill Simmons on his
- 37:58Speaker 1: podcast I think was last week Van Lathan, one of
- 38:00Speaker 1: his contributors, they had a great conversation about this. And look,
- 38:03Speaker 1: we're in bed with operators, We're sponsored by operators. Action
- 38:09Speaker 1: Network has partnerships commercial partnerships with operators, like it's to
- 38:14Speaker 1: our financial advantage to see it continue to do well.
- 38:19Speaker 1: But I also think the policing is more rigorous. I
- 38:22Speaker 1: think the responsible gaming conversation is more prevalent. You're seeing
- 38:29Speaker 1: every day. Even the operators recently created a new group
- 38:33Speaker 1: that is focused on responsible gaming. What it looks like
- 38:38Speaker 1: in the next six years, more states are going to legalize.
- 38:40Speaker 1: You know, the question is going to be when does
- 38:43Speaker 1: California legalized, When does Texas legalized? When does Florida legalize?
- 38:46Speaker 1: Those are going to be tipping points towards scale that
- 38:50Speaker 1: is national in nature and make the market even bigger
- 38:54Speaker 1: than what it is. I do think there's going to
- 38:57Speaker 1: be pullbacks and advertising on television, and I think there
- 39:00Speaker 1: will be a crusading politician somewhere who tries to change
- 39:05Speaker 1: the structure state by state on how states benefit from revenue.
- 39:11Speaker 1: But it's not going anywhere, and it's only going to
- 39:14Speaker 1: get bigger. This a great question because there's two more questions,
- 39:21Speaker 1: and you're in your thirties. I'm in my fifties, so
- 39:26Speaker 1: I think we can both answer this really well. Simon,
- 39:29Speaker 1: you're well into your thirties looking back, what do you
- 39:31Speaker 1: think the hardest age to be is? If you were
- 39:34Speaker 1: power ranking ages starting once you reach school, what's at
- 39:38Speaker 1: the bottom?
- 39:42Speaker 2: I would say personally, for me, my hardest age was
- 39:45Speaker 2: probably twenty one, where I was working in TV and
- 39:50Speaker 2: I was making really good money, but I was working
- 39:52Speaker 2: long hours, twelve hour days, and I just remember all
- 39:55Speaker 2: my friends were in college and I was just like,
- 39:58Speaker 2: what am I doing? Why did I not go to
- 40:01Speaker 2: college and just play lacrosse or something like why did
- 40:03Speaker 2: I take this path? So I would say twenty one
- 40:07Speaker 2: was tough ride, tons of self doubt and I was
- 40:09Speaker 2: still like, what am I gonna do in life? Because
- 40:12Speaker 2: I really know what I wanted to do, So yeah,
- 40:16Speaker 2: for me, personally, everyone's gonna have a different age. But
- 40:18Speaker 2: I would say it was the toughest year, but then
- 40:20Speaker 2: there's one of the best years because it put me
- 40:22Speaker 2: into this life and it was a turning point in
- 40:24Speaker 2: my life. So I am a believer that when your
- 40:27Speaker 2: life is at the lowest and you're filled with doubt
- 40:30Speaker 2: and life really sucks, the best parts of your life
- 40:33Speaker 2: might be just around the corner. So always stick to
- 40:36Speaker 2: that advice of just what is it? Winston Churchill. If
- 40:39Speaker 2: you're going through hell, keep going, like I love that saying.
- 40:44Speaker 1: You know what's interesting is I think twenties. Even if
- 40:52Speaker 1: you know what you're doing, or think you know what
- 40:54Speaker 1: you're doing, it's fucking brutal because you're not quite confident
- 41:03Speaker 1: if you're in college or not in college, you're just
- 41:06Speaker 1: out of college. You're trying to figure out what you're
- 41:08Speaker 1: going to do. You see people accelerating at different stages.
- 41:14Speaker 1: You're wondering why you're not going as fast. You are
- 41:18Speaker 1: full of anxiety for your career, You're full of anxiety
- 41:21Speaker 1: for relationships. Where do you need to be? What's happening
- 41:26Speaker 1: that you're not connected to. It's like it's full of
- 41:32Speaker 1: trying to figure yourself out. In a way that is
- 41:34Speaker 1: so different than junior high or high school, right, because
- 41:40Speaker 1: you feel like, all of a sudden, the stakes are
- 41:41Speaker 1: so much higher. I see this now with my kid
- 41:44Speaker 1: who's twenty one and is like trying to figure out
- 41:45Speaker 1: his life and is stressed about everything, and my wife
- 41:48Speaker 1: and I are like, take a step, man, Like any
- 41:52Speaker 1: decision you make today is not going to impact the
- 41:54Speaker 1: decisions that you're going to have when you're thirty or
- 41:56Speaker 1: forty or fifty one hundred. Early to mid twenties are
- 42:04Speaker 1: so fucking hard, you're so in the middle of transition.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I will make the case that early fifties fucking choice. Really,
- 42:18Speaker 1: it's really nice, and I recommend it. I look forward
- 42:22Speaker 1: to everybody. Get in there. All right, Simon, I know
- 42:28Speaker 1: you're excited about this. Explain are you excited about the
- 42:32Speaker 1: upcoming solar eclipse?
- 42:37Speaker 2: I am, Chad. I don't know if I said on
- 42:38Speaker 2: the show. Maybe it was off ver I told Chad,
- 42:40Speaker 2: but I'm actually heading up to Buffalo on I think
- 42:43Speaker 2: of going up on the seventh and the eclipse of
- 42:45Speaker 2: the eighth or maybe it's spice versa. But I'm going
- 42:48Speaker 2: up a day early, going to check out the Nagara
- 42:51Speaker 2: Falls and then going the next day to go check
- 42:53Speaker 2: out the eclipse, which is on like a direct path
- 42:55Speaker 2: through Buffalo, So really looking forward to it. I'm like
- 42:59Speaker 2: kind of a star gazing nerd a little bit. I
- 43:01Speaker 2: used to be really into it, not so much as
- 43:02Speaker 2: I've gotten older, but yeah, like the James Webb telescope,
- 43:05Speaker 2: all that stuff, I just I can't get enough of it.
- 43:08Speaker 2: So yeah, basically, if there's someone that's asked yourself, is
- 43:12Speaker 2: it worth getting into the path of a totally eclipse,
- 43:15Speaker 2: it is worth the drive. Even though it's only four
- 43:17Speaker 2: minutes long. It is the craziest, coolest thing I've ever seen.
- 43:21Speaker 2: It's basically you know what I mean. You don't even
- 43:24Speaker 2: need the special sunglasses. Once the eclipse starts happening. You
- 43:26Speaker 2: can look directly at it without anything on your face
- 43:29Speaker 2: and just see what looks like a black hole and
- 43:31Speaker 2: this white fire dancing around it. It's It's crazy. It's
- 43:35Speaker 2: I never see anything like it. So yeah, I'm I'm
- 43:37Speaker 2: all in and really excited about this totally eclipse.
- 43:41Speaker 1: I love learning things about Simon outside of betting.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Yeah I might I might come off as kind of cool,
- 43:48Speaker 2: but deep down chat nos I'm a nerd, such.
- 43:50Speaker 1: A nerd, see, and people would would think I'm a nerd,
- 43:54Speaker 1: but I actually just don't have a deep down. So
- 43:58Speaker 1: Matt Mitchell was asking me the chat best oil to
- 44:00Speaker 1: nut ratio. I don't know if he's asking because a
- 44:03Speaker 1: fan is asking that, or if he wants to know.
- 44:05Speaker 1: I can tell you right now that my go to
- 44:07Speaker 1: mixture right now that I'm enjoying the most, the combination
- 44:11Speaker 1: of hazel nuts, macadamia nuts, pashews, and pecans. You mix
- 44:21Speaker 1: them with some like two tablespoons of olive oil, some
- 44:25Speaker 1: sea salt, some orange zest, and some fennel. You save
- 44:31Speaker 1: some of the orange zest. You roast them for twelve
- 44:33Speaker 1: minutes in the oven. At about four something, I think
- 44:37Speaker 1: you take them out and then you put a little
- 44:38Speaker 1: more orange jest on him afterwards. So supreme. I can't
- 44:46Speaker 1: even tell you it's the best, the best.
- 44:53Speaker 2: My favorite nut, I will go with the good old
- 44:56Speaker 2: fashioned baseball peanut. I love the classic. I think I
- 45:01Speaker 2: even got Chetti the couple at the ballpark.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we did. We had a whole bag of
- 45:04Speaker 1: it at the Phillies game.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'm about that life.
- 45:07Speaker 1: By the way, it's so annoying that you're going to
- 45:09Speaker 1: be at the Eclipse this this weekend, I will be
