- 0:01Speaker 1: What time.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I think it is written down somewhere.
- 0:07Speaker 1: That that it's probably written down somewhere that it's at
- 0:13Speaker 1: the very least an implied order, if not a direct order.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Whenever a broadcaster has a play by play voice of
- 0:21Speaker 1: another college on, they're supposed to either jump back with
- 0:25Speaker 1: their fight song or something like that. Happens to me
- 0:26Speaker 1: every time I'm on with Toby rolling Oklahoma, they come
- 0:29Speaker 1: back with with Texas Fight or the Eyes of Texas.
- 0:32Speaker 1: So the producer Jay Herman thought it proved it so
- 0:35Speaker 1: as we continue our SEC football previews, it brings us
- 0:39Speaker 1: to the Tennessee volunteers, and that's Mike Keith, their play
- 0:43Speaker 1: by play voice, who joins us.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Mike, I really appreciate the time. How are you this afternoon.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I'm doing very well, Craig, thank you so much for
- 0:52Speaker 4: having the interesting note. However, Rocky Top is not Tennessee's
- 0:57Speaker 4: fight song, well not even one of their fight songs.
- 1:00Speaker 4: There is strong discussion that after fifty years have been
- 1:04Speaker 4: playing as if there were the fight song, that it
- 1:08Speaker 4: should become an official fight song, but it is not,
- 1:11Speaker 4: which is quite a strange thing in the eyes of
- 1:15Speaker 4: many even here.
- 1:18Speaker 2: You know what I remember hearing that one.
- 1:19Speaker 1: It went when I went up there to do I
- 1:21Speaker 1: think a women's basketball game several years ago, or it
- 1:24Speaker 1: was a men's either one that they said, well, you know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: because I made a comment about, boy, you know, they
- 1:29Speaker 1: play Rocky Top probably as often as Texas Fight gets
- 1:32Speaker 1: played to Texas or Boomer Sooner or some of the others,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and somebody said, well, you know, it's not a real
- 1:36Speaker 1: fight song, and I'd forgotten about that.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And you're a Tennessee grad, aren't you. Oh yeah, that's
- 1:42Speaker 2: what I thought.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Well, you know, many folks for many years
- 1:46Speaker 1: were so were so used to hearing you do such
- 1:48Speaker 1: a fabulous job calling the Tennessee Titans.
- 1:51Speaker 2: And what you and I met a couple of.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Years ago, I guess was that your first year back
- 1:56Speaker 1: after Bob Kesling's retirement. That is this your third year
- 1:59Speaker 1: or or more in reassuming all the play by play
- 2:03Speaker 1: duties there for volunteer football and men's basketball.
- 2:07Speaker 4: It's her two for me, and I've been here for
- 2:12Speaker 4: quite some time. I came immediately after the Titans season
- 2:16Speaker 4: ended in twenty twenty four, so I was here in
- 2:19Speaker 4: early January twenty twenty five. I've been here for going
- 2:23Speaker 4: on two years, but this is only my second school
- 2:27Speaker 4: year to be the announcer.
- 2:28Speaker 1: How much of an adjustment was it for you?
- 2:31Speaker 2: With all those years?
- 2:32Speaker 1: And what I always call was the you know, the
- 2:35Speaker 1: very set in stone and regimented routine of NFL teams,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and for that matter, I guess broadcasts to jump in
- 2:45Speaker 1: back into the college scene where there's football, owner's a
- 2:48Speaker 1: basketball game here, and then there's some overlap, and then
- 2:50Speaker 1: there's another basketball game on down the road.
- 2:52Speaker 2: How much of an adjustment was that for you?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Massive adjustment, massive, massive adjustment, just understanding that, you know,
- 3:02Speaker 3: the two seasons overlap. The thing about working for the
- 3:07Speaker 3: Titans was unless I did sort of a one off
- 3:11Speaker 3: event somewhere, like if I did a high school state
- 3:14Speaker 3: championship where the Titans sent me out to do some
- 3:18Speaker 3: event of some sort.
- 3:21Speaker 5: It was gonna be the same.
- 3:22Speaker 4: You know, it was gonna be You're gonna play Indianapolis
- 3:25Speaker 4: on Sunday at noon Central time, and you know, it's
- 3:29Speaker 4: just one thing, and I knew this would be harder,
- 3:32Speaker 4: but you know, I think at this point in my life,
- 3:35Speaker 4: I wanted to see if I.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Could do it.
- 3:37Speaker 4: I had not called basketball on the radio in thirty
- 3:41Speaker 4: three years, and I'd done TV games, but I had
- 3:46Speaker 4: not done it on the radio in thirty three years,
- 3:49Speaker 4: and I wanted to try it, you know, I wanted
- 3:51Speaker 4: to see, you know, I wanted to see what it
- 3:53Speaker 4: was like. I wanted to be part of the Southeastern Conference.
- 3:56Speaker 5: The fact that Texas.
- 3:57Speaker 4: And Oklahoma were coming in appeal to me greatly. The
- 4:02Speaker 4: fact that it's a play that football is a playoff
- 4:05Speaker 4: sport like the NFL appealed.
- 4:08Speaker 2: To me greatly.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Sort of the new wave of it, which seems very
- 4:13Speaker 4: much like the NFL when I got into it in
- 4:16Speaker 4: nineteen ninety eight. It has a familiar feeling because when
- 4:21Speaker 4: I started Craig in the National Football League, it was
- 4:24Speaker 4: only the fourth year of free agency in the salarycap, true,
- 4:27Speaker 4: and everybody, everybody was still I mean, they didn't call
- 4:31Speaker 4: it the Wild West like they do with what we're
- 4:34Speaker 4: getting right now, but everybody was still trying to bend
- 4:37Speaker 4: the rules. They were trying to find, you know, the
- 4:41Speaker 4: different ways to get into it. Make no mistake about it, though,
- 4:44Speaker 4: I mean I was. I was very honored and very
- 4:47Speaker 4: happy to work for the Tennessee Titans. The Adams family
- 4:51Speaker 4: was wonderful to my family and it was it was
- 4:55Speaker 4: the honor of a lifetime to be with them, and
- 4:58Speaker 4: now to have this opportunity he is another great honor
- 5:01Speaker 4: as well well.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And just a side note, you get to work with
- 5:04Speaker 1: one of my favorite people on planet Earth, and that's
- 5:07Speaker 1: Rick Barnes.
- 5:08Speaker 2: That spent sixteen years with him, So it's.
- 5:11Speaker 1: And he's always kind enough to do a pregame interview
- 5:14Speaker 1: with me every year of the Texas and Tennessee.
- 5:16Speaker 2: He's a different sword, isn't.
- 5:17Speaker 5: He the best?
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:20Speaker 5: He was my He was my very favorite part of
- 5:22Speaker 5: year one.
- 5:24Speaker 4: To get to basically in bed with them, which is
- 5:29Speaker 4: what you know. I told him I started going to
- 5:31Speaker 4: basketball practice last summer and he's like, why are you here? Like, well,
- 5:36Speaker 4: this is this is kind of what I do. I
- 5:39Speaker 4: want to I want to watch it, I want to
- 5:41Speaker 4: learn it.
- 5:41Speaker 5: And I'm listen.
- 5:43Speaker 4: I couldn't tell you what a football or a basketball
- 5:46Speaker 4: play is, per se. I mean, you know, if somebody
- 5:50Speaker 4: kidnapped me and asked me to diagram the plays of
- 5:52Speaker 4: Tennessee to give him an advantage, they would they would
- 5:55Speaker 4: be very disappointed in me as a hostage, because I
- 5:59Speaker 4: mean I I don't know. Now, I played, so I
- 6:02Speaker 4: sort of know what the deal is. But what I'm
- 6:05Speaker 4: watching for is who are the players in the lineup,
- 6:09Speaker 4: what are they focused on? Just kind of understanding the
- 6:13Speaker 4: overall philosophy and coach Barnes is amazing And what's really
- 6:20Speaker 4: amazing to me, and what is quite a thrill is
- 6:24Speaker 4: he has totally embraced transfer Portland and il. The majority
- 6:30Speaker 4: of his peers have retired. They said, don't want any
- 6:35Speaker 4: of this. He's just said, fine, I don't have to
- 6:37Speaker 4: go sit in the gym for eight weeks all summer
- 6:40Speaker 4: recruiting all high school kids. And Tennessee funds basketball very well.
- 6:46Speaker 4: You know Adolph upset about Tennessee back in the nineteen fifties.
- 6:51Speaker 4: He said, Tennessee is a football school that takes its
- 6:53Speaker 4: basketball very seriously. And I think that's what Rick Barnes
- 6:59Speaker 4: has found. He's found a place that while it's known
- 7:03Speaker 4: as a football school, they very much loved their basketball.
- 7:06Speaker 5: And here's the thing too, Craig. They love him. They
- 7:10Speaker 5: love Rick bart.
- 7:11Speaker 4: He is beloved in this community and he can do
- 7:15Speaker 4: no wrong in terms of what he does as a
- 7:19Speaker 4: person and being around both he and his staff and
- 7:22Speaker 4: his players. You know, he's got a certain standard. As
- 7:25Speaker 4: you know, not everybody can play for Rick Barnes. True,
- 7:28Speaker 4: and to see these guys and to get to know
- 7:32Speaker 4: these guys, it was the highlight of year one for
- 7:37Speaker 4: me because I learned so much, No doub it was
- 7:40Speaker 4: really special.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Mike Keith is the play by playboy. So the Tennessee
- 7:43Speaker 1: volunteers joining us for SEC preview. Okay, let's talk about
- 7:46Speaker 1: your football team. And one thing I always remember about
- 7:50Speaker 1: Josh Hipel, other than the fact that he led Oklahoma
- 7:52Speaker 1: to a sixty three to fourteen win over Texas in
- 7:55Speaker 1: two thousand en route to winning the national title, was
- 7:58Speaker 1: the was the fact that he's looked at as being
- 8:02Speaker 1: a real offensive savan and offensive genius. And I would
- 8:05Speaker 1: submit that probably, and I don't know how coach Hypel
- 8:08Speaker 1: feels about this, but probably the greatest challenge for a
- 8:14Speaker 1: real offensive mind like coach Hypel is when he has
- 8:18Speaker 1: to break in another quarterback. And now, with the latest
- 8:24Speaker 1: in the quarterback derby being either the freshman Faison Brandon
- 8:29Speaker 1: or George McIntyre, I guess, or the two that are
- 8:31Speaker 1: looked at most prominently, I'm sure he rolls up his
- 8:34Speaker 1: sleeves and dives right into it. But what's the vibe
- 8:37Speaker 1: you get on what he does with his offense and
- 8:41Speaker 1: how whoever is going to take the snaps at quarterback
- 8:43Speaker 1: is going to factor into this.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Well, what Hypeul likes to tell you, which is so great,
- 8:50Speaker 4: his dad was a longtime coach, longtime football coach. His
- 8:55Speaker 4: dad's background is in defense. So a lot of the
- 9:00Speaker 4: things that he incorporates for his quarterback and for his
- 9:03Speaker 4: offense comes from understanding what a defense is bothered by
- 9:08Speaker 4: the most. And his father is actually around and keeps
- 9:13Speaker 4: an eye on some things for him a little bit too,
- 9:16Speaker 4: which is really an interesting dynamic. But Josh has buried
- 9:22Speaker 4: so many things in his time at Tennessee. He came
- 9:26Speaker 4: in and his offense looked one way, and he's put
- 9:30Speaker 4: in more routes. He's expanded the route tree, he's expanded
- 9:34Speaker 4: the run game. He'll go under center, there's more motion now.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I think the flexibility in him is what is most impressive.
- 9:43Speaker 4: And so whether it's Brandon or MacIntyre or both, I mean,
- 9:48Speaker 4: you know, we could certainly see that he'll announce a
- 9:51Speaker 4: starter at some point, but the starter he's going to
- 9:54Speaker 4: announce is for the Furman game. It doesn't mean he's
- 9:58Speaker 4: making an announcement for the end of time. You know,
- 10:02Speaker 4: both of these guys can play. They've got some experienced
- 10:05Speaker 4: offensive linemen and skill players around them, but he's not
- 10:10Speaker 4: going to baby them, Craig. He's going to expect them
- 10:13Speaker 4: to be able to go out and execute the offense. Now,
- 10:16Speaker 4: can he run everything that he ran with twenty five
- 10:19Speaker 4: year old Joey Aguilar? Maybe maybe not, but it's still
- 10:24Speaker 4: going to be his offense. I think the difference in
- 10:28Speaker 4: his offense this year and the overall difference to his
- 10:30Speaker 4: football team is they're going to be much more physical.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Tennessee felt like they got out physical down the stretch
- 10:38Speaker 4: a year ago, and Josh Hipel was not pleased with
- 10:42Speaker 4: any bit.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Of that at all.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Interesting you mentioned that he's got some good pieces of
- 10:48Speaker 1: the court. Whoever is going to be the quarterback or
- 10:50Speaker 1: both have good offensive pieces around them at the skill spot.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Who do you think is really the standoup? Might it
- 10:57Speaker 1: be a Braylyn Stay, Might it be you know, Mike Matthews.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Might it be a Deshaun Bishop who really stands out
- 11:04Speaker 1: to you as the guy who in addition to the
- 11:07Speaker 1: quarterback play has to kind of be a bit of
- 11:09Speaker 1: a bell cow on the offensive side of the ball.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I think the two receivers you mentioned first, Staley and
- 11:15Speaker 4: Matthews have to be at the top of the list.
- 11:18Speaker 4: That's the best returning pair of receivers in terms of
- 11:23Speaker 4: productivity that Tennessee has had in fifteen years.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Wow.
- 11:27Speaker 4: And so with that being the case, you know, those
- 11:30Speaker 4: guys have to come through. They played really well last year,
- 11:33Speaker 4: they put up good numbers, but they've got to be
- 11:36Speaker 4: guys that they can go to. Ethan Davis at tight end,
- 11:40Speaker 4: Deshaun Braeme at tight end, They've got to find a
- 11:43Speaker 4: third wide receiver. Bishop the running back, has a chance
- 11:48Speaker 4: with a great year, to be Tennessee's all time leading rusher. Wow.
- 11:52Speaker 4: And I mean I think they're going to feature him.
- 11:55Speaker 4: But Tennessee likes to play three backs. And Javen Gordon
- 11:59Speaker 4: is transfer from two Lanes playoff team, has done well
- 12:03Speaker 4: in camp. And then Dwayn Morris is a sophomore running
- 12:07Speaker 4: back who has tremendous speed. So all those guys are
- 12:11Speaker 4: going to be counted on. They're going to have to
- 12:14Speaker 4: come through this year. If Tennessee is going to take
- 12:17Speaker 4: a step back to being a playoff.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Contender talking Tennessee Volunteers Football on our sec P views
- 12:22Speaker 1: with all of the play by play voices we do
- 12:25Speaker 1: every day here during this three week span, and today
- 12:28Speaker 1: it's Mike Keith, the voice of the Balls, who joins
- 12:30Speaker 1: us now on the defensive side. The layman might look
- 12:34Speaker 1: at it, Mike and say, hey, linebackers and secondary look better,
- 12:37Speaker 1: look really really good. If there's a question mark, maybe
- 12:39Speaker 1: it's in the down lineman. Do you see it similarly,
- 12:42Speaker 1: or there's some other things that come to your mind
- 12:44Speaker 1: about the Tennessee defense.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I think the down linemen are going to be fine.
- 12:50Speaker 4: They just I mean two years ago, you know they
- 12:52Speaker 4: I don't know if you know this.
- 12:53Speaker 5: I shouldn't say it that way. I apologize.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Two years ago they played sixteen down lineman. They rotated
- 12:59Speaker 4: sixteen defensive lineman, which is crazy. And five of the
- 13:06Speaker 4: players that they lost off last year's team are in
- 13:09Speaker 4: NFL camps. So they have lost depth and talent. But
- 13:14Speaker 4: they have talent. Now the question becomes do they have depth.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Up front?
- 13:20Speaker 4: They brought in Xavier Gellim from Penn State Jordan Norman
- 13:25Speaker 4: from Tulane to combine with Nathan Richardson and David Hobbs
- 13:30Speaker 4: and you know some other guys that were already here.
- 13:33Speaker 4: So I think they're I think they're okay there. They
- 13:35Speaker 4: have a lot of linebackers. They absolutely have a lot
- 13:39Speaker 4: of linebackers that the LEO position. That edge rusher, we're
- 13:44Speaker 4: not sure who that is. And if they can't find
- 13:47Speaker 4: that consistent player, do they use some sort of hybrid
- 13:52Speaker 4: do they use extra linebackers, do they play an extra
- 13:54Speaker 4: defensive back. I think they're probably like everybody else. Every
- 14:00Speaker 4: football team from you know wherever junior high school to
- 14:06Speaker 4: the best team in the NFL. They don't have enough corners.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Every coach in America is going to tell you he
- 14:12Speaker 4: doesn't have enough corners. And Tennessee, Tennessee is really fighting
- 14:17Speaker 4: to find corner depth, just like everybody else. But again,
- 14:22Speaker 4: I didn't have one year in the NFL where the
- 14:24Speaker 4: coach said, oh, we got plenty of corners. It's great, you.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Know, embarrassment of richest.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I'd like to I'd like to see I
- 14:34Speaker 4: would like I'd like to meet that grass cutter coach
- 14:37Speaker 4: who would be willing to tell you he has enough corners.
- 14:40Speaker 5: But you get it.
- 14:42Speaker 4: I mean, you get it with all the receiver stuff
- 14:45Speaker 4: that people do you need them? You know, who's going
- 14:48Speaker 4: to play the nickel? And do you play a safety
- 14:51Speaker 4: at nickel or do you play a corner at nickel
- 14:53Speaker 4: or do you have a player who just basically a nickel.
- 14:58Speaker 4: You know, we've seen that the Tyron Matthews of the
- 15:01Speaker 4: world come around some too, so we'll see. Listen, Jim Knowles,
- 15:06Speaker 4: the defensive coordinator, is a heck of a defensive coach.
- 15:10Speaker 5: He'll cook something up.
- 15:12Speaker 4: The biggest change in Tennessee was hiring Indiana's strength coach
- 15:16Speaker 4: Derek Owings and the ball's commitment to getting back to
- 15:21Speaker 4: physicality they put they got pushed around down the stretch
- 15:27Speaker 4: and Josh Haipel after the Vanderbilt game, in which the
- 15:30Speaker 4: Commodores won in Knoxville by twenty one points, dominating the
- 15:35Speaker 4: second half, his quote is, I'm embarrassed. And so he
- 15:39Speaker 4: went out and got somebody, and you know, the best
- 15:42Speaker 4: strength coach in the country if you look at what
- 15:44Speaker 4: Indiana was last year, certainly the hottest strength coach in
- 15:48Speaker 4: the country because of what Indiana did. You know, That's
- 15:51Speaker 4: that's what he wanted and that's what he got.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and Texas fans very well acquainted with Jim Knowles
- 15:58Speaker 1: from his time first at Oklahoma State, then last year
- 16:00Speaker 1: obviously at Ohio State. Mike, before I let you go,
- 16:04Speaker 1: I want to ask you something I've asked all of
- 16:06Speaker 1: the other play by play guys who've been on and
- 16:07Speaker 1: the ones that'll be on next week during our final
- 16:10Speaker 1: week of these previews, and that's about the whole nine
- 16:13Speaker 1: game conference schedule thing. That and some of the guys
- 16:17Speaker 1: who've been around calling it for a long time might
- 16:19Speaker 1: have a better perspective than you or I in terms
- 16:22Speaker 1: of the weekly grind of the SEC, but I think
- 16:25Speaker 1: we've both seen it, saw it last year what the
- 16:29Speaker 1: regular grind is of an eight game schedule with a
- 16:31Speaker 1: nine game conference schedule. There are those who really have
- 16:34Speaker 1: some trepidation about it. Now your non conference schedule, and
- 16:38Speaker 1: it's a good challenge to go to Atlanta to play
- 16:40Speaker 1: Georgia Tech. But the non conference schedule would seem to
- 16:44Speaker 1: set up well enough to where you get three games
- 16:46Speaker 1: under belt anyway before the Loghorns roll in has tried
- 16:50Speaker 1: the river there on September twenty six. How about your
- 16:53Speaker 1: thoughts on the nine game conference schedule?
- 16:58Speaker 4: Well, I think it's the NFL. Yeah, I mean, I
- 17:00Speaker 4: think that's one hundred percent what it is. I've seen it.
- 17:04Speaker 4: And what I mean by that is you're gonna I mean,
- 17:08Speaker 4: let's say you go play LSU and you go play
- 17:12Speaker 4: Oh Miss.
- 17:13Speaker 5: And you beat them both.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Great, right, but you're so beat up? Can will you
- 17:20Speaker 4: have a chance to beat Florida the next week?
- 17:23Speaker 5: And that sounds crazy?
- 17:24Speaker 4: You're like, well, LSU is gonna be good, No Miss
- 17:26Speaker 4: is gonna be good, and Florida's gonna be much approved.
- 17:28Speaker 4: And yeah, guess what, everybody's got it now.
- 17:32Speaker 5: And I think that's gonna be what.
- 17:34Speaker 4: The nine game grind is overall is it's gonna wear
- 17:39Speaker 4: on you as a way, in a way like professional
- 17:43Speaker 4: football that Hey listen, when I started following the SEC
- 17:46Speaker 4: six games and when they went to seven, they thought,
- 17:50Speaker 4: oh the world's ending, We're going to seven, and then
- 17:54Speaker 4: you go to eight, it's like age too many, We
- 17:56Speaker 4: shouldn't And the coaches didn't want nine. And I one
- 18:00Speaker 4: hundred percent geft why they didn't want nine, because this
- 18:05Speaker 4: conference and the challenge that it puts you through, especially
- 18:09Speaker 4: with just one by week this year, the grind that
- 18:12Speaker 4: it puts you through. It's going to be very, very
- 18:14Speaker 4: tough now for us as broadcasters, it's fabulous. For fans,
- 18:19Speaker 4: it's fantastic. If you if you have enough to get
- 18:23Speaker 4: in the playoff, you're gonna be ready for anybody.
- 18:26Speaker 5: You know, I think you know.
- 18:28Speaker 4: If you're Tennessee, your goal to start with is to
- 18:33Speaker 4: get to the LSU game at home on November twenty first,
- 18:37Speaker 4: still in the hunt for the playoffs, and if you can,
- 18:41Speaker 4: if you can make it that far, that the Georgia
- 18:44Speaker 4: Tech thing is going to be a big deal, a
- 18:47Speaker 4: much bigger deal for Tennessee than probably what it looks
- 18:50Speaker 4: like on paper because they play Colorado to open and
- 18:55Speaker 4: so they will have already seen a quality opponent to
- 19:00Speaker 4: begin and they play them on a Thursday night, and
- 19:03Speaker 4: then Tennessee goes in there, and you know, there's a
- 19:06Speaker 4: real new Georgia Tech team, kind of a new Tennessee team.
- 19:10Speaker 4: They've got to find a way to win that football game.
- 19:13Speaker 4: There's a lot of pressure in that football game. And
- 19:15Speaker 4: then Kennesaw State, that's a team that won their conference
- 19:19Speaker 4: last year. And Tennessee fans here Kennesaw State and they
- 19:24Speaker 4: think back to Georgia State in twenty nineteen when they
- 19:28Speaker 4: came into Knoxville and beat Tennessee.
- 19:30Speaker 5: So you know, I mean you some of those.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Teams are you know, they're a lot more sort of
- 19:38Speaker 4: catchy than they were when when Peyton Manning was here
- 19:41Speaker 4: and I was covering the team in the nineties. Tennessee
- 19:43Speaker 4: would start the season, Craig with eight wins. You knew
- 19:46Speaker 4: they had eight wins. It was gonna be Georgia, Florida
- 19:49Speaker 4: and Alabama would be the other three games, and then
- 19:52Speaker 4: that would decide what kind of season you had. Today,
- 19:56Speaker 4: I think you start off with one, maybe do automatic wins.
- 20:01Speaker 4: There's some you you certainly think you can win. But
- 20:04Speaker 4: Tennessee knew they were winning eight games in that period.
- 20:08Speaker 4: They knew it, and and today it's just not like
- 20:12Speaker 4: that anymore.
- 20:13Speaker 2: You're right, it is something else.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Uh, Mike Agent, tell how much I am looking forward
- 20:19Speaker 1: to calling a football game for the first time for
- 20:22Speaker 1: me at Neiland Stadium. I you know, I've obviously seen
- 20:26Speaker 1: it on television and heard everybody describing it. I'm I'm
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to, uh to being in Knoxville there
- 20:32Speaker 1: coming up to start off SEC play. I appreciate you
- 20:34Speaker 1: doing this and and I would love to visit with
- 20:37Speaker 1: you again game week if that works for you.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Just saying Texas. UH had a chance to work with
- 20:44Speaker 4: coach Sarkisi and some when he was at Washington and
- 20:48Speaker 4: a big fan of his obviously. This is an historic
- 20:53Speaker 4: matchup for both programs. And you know, Greg, if you
- 20:56Speaker 4: love college football like I know you do, this is
- 20:59Speaker 4: what live for. You know, you live for moments like
- 21:03Speaker 4: this where you're gonna get to see a first on
- 21:06Speaker 4: campus meeting between these programs, and that Saturday is going
- 21:12Speaker 4: to be unreal in Knoxville, Tennessee.
- 21:14Speaker 5: I can't wait for.
- 21:15Speaker 2: It me either. Hey, Mike, thanks so much. I appreciate
- 21:17Speaker 2: you doing this.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I'll look forward to visiting with you the week of
- 21:19Speaker 1: the ball game and look forward to seeing you in
- 21:21Speaker 1: Knoxville at the end of September.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Thank you for having me on the program. I appreciate it.
- 21:25Speaker 2: You bet.
- 21:26Speaker 1: That's my key play by play voice of the Tennessee Volunteers.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Market on your calendar September twenty sixth, when the Logorrens
- 21:34Speaker 1: and Tennessee likewise open SEC play against one of both
- 21:38Speaker 1: of these teams. By the way, Texas and Tennessee play
- 21:41Speaker 1: their three non conference games up front, and that was
- 21:44Speaker 1: the point I was driving home with Mike. At least
- 21:46Speaker 1: you get those non conference games, you know, underfoot, whereas
- 21:49Speaker 1: some programs like Kentucky has to play Louisville and Georgie
- 21:53Speaker 1: has to play Georgia Tech. And we've talked about some
- 21:57Speaker 1: of those. Got Florida, Florida State. Those teams that have
- 22:00Speaker 1: a third non conference game at the tail end of
- 22:04Speaker 1: the regular season only get a couple of weeks to
- 22:06Speaker 1: ramp it up and getting it. South Carolina playing Clemson
- 22:09Speaker 1: at the end, that's another example of that. So Texas
- 22:12Speaker 1: and Tennessee both will have played their non conference slate
- 22:15Speaker 1: when they teed it up to open SEC play on
- 22:19Speaker 1: September twenty sixth at Eland Stadium in Knoxville. All Right,
- 22:23Speaker 1: coming up, it is inconceivable on a Friday. We know
- 22:26Speaker 1: what inconceivable on a Friday means Jacob.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Down to the Sunshine State, the most flasset of the
- 22:31Speaker 2: lower forty eight for Florida Man and Florida Woman, which
- 22:34Speaker 2: you've had a lot of good Florida woman stories lately.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Yeah, stay tuned for that. We got more coming up
- 22:38Speaker 1: here on thirteen Under the Zone
