Latest / NRBC Compliance Brief / Vol. 1, Ed. 36 — Sat Sep 19: Michigan revokes cannabis license, sets record fine
Transcript
- This is the New Realm Compliance Brief, Volume One, Edition Thirty Six, for Saturday, September Nineteenth. Our top story: Michigan's Cannabis Regulatory Agency has revoked the license of Michigan Investments Ten, the maker of the widely distributed Muha Meds vaporizer line, and imposed a two million dollar fine — the largest the agency has ever levied on a licensed cannabis business. Investigators documented untested product, gaps in seed to sale tracking, surveillance cameras that did not work, and more than one hundred five pounds of product that could not be located. The company must cease operations by September twenty fourth. Agency executive director Brian Hanna said that when a licensee disregards those requirements to this extent, the agency will take appropriate action. Michigan retailers and distributors carrying these products need an inventory plan before the shutdown date. In federal news, Alabama's State Committee of Public Health voted unanimously to withdraw its objection to the Justice Department's order moving state licensed medical cannabis to Schedule Three. State Health Officer Doctor Scott Harris said the committee's original comments missed its real question, which was the consequences of rescheduling. The reversal removes one of the remaining state level objections to the federal reclassification. Around the states: Massachusetts began a comprehensive rewrite of its cannabis regulations, including a new standalone medical dispensary license type and consolidated transporter licenses. A December vote on draft rules comes first, with final approval targeted for March of twenty twenty seven. Fee schedules for the new license types have not yet been published. And in Delaware, Governor Matt Meyer signed a bill renaming the state's alcohol enforcement division to include marijuana, formalizing oversight the division already exercises over marijuana retailers. On the radar: the ban on imports of Canadian beer, wine and spirits takes effect September twenty ninth, and the federal limit on hemp derived T H C products takes effect December eleventh.
