- 0:00Please meet me in second Samuel chapter 17.
- 0:15I hope you're okay to pray with me again.
- 0:19Lord, we invoke your name and we ask that your power would be in
- 0:24the midst of this place. I thank you, Lord, for the
- 0:27precious saints were able to be here we, thank you, Lord, for
- 0:30the Saints who are watching glorious that in this very
- 0:34moment, your word would come forth and it would do what only
- 0:39you can do as James says that it would save us.
- 0:43Not just in Salvation but save us from our sins.
- 0:46Save us from lies. Save us from Temptation.
- 0:50Save us from ideas that are not in alignment with your truth
- 0:55that can lead to confusion and deception, Lord.
- 0:57We pray that there would be a rescuing and at the same time
- 1:01that there would be a stirring of adoration for you.
- 1:05Lord, we don't want to just know things we want to know the god
- 1:09of the word, please draws closer to you.
- 1:13Help us Olga through this study. Love you personally and then
- 1:17reflect you close. And more accurately than we did
- 1:21before this meeting, we bless the name of your son and we ask
- 1:25that he would be glorified in this study.
- 1:28In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- 1:32Last week, if you were here, you know, that our study concluded
- 1:37with a sheath offals, horrific advice for Absalom about how to
- 1:44better secure the throne that he sabotaged his father's throne.
- 1:52And the advice that was proposed was for Absalom to violate his
- 1:57father's concubines publicly. So that the Ian would receive
- 2:03that statement and that statement would be that a new
- 2:07Revolution has arrived. A new government has been placed
- 2:13and that it is the real deal as aggressive.
- 2:17And as audacious as such a move was he thought was advice is not
- 2:22going to cease here. It's going to continue into
- 2:24chapter 17 and what you're going to learn very quickly is that
- 2:28his proposal in these verses will prove To be more severe
- 2:33than what we learned last. But I thought foes counsel here
- 2:38is not the only thing that you and I are going to read if
- 2:41there's going to be another set of instructions that are going
- 2:43to be presented and it's going to be presented by no other than
- 2:48who shy who shy who is the secret friend of David who is
- 2:53strategically in the courts of Heath offal and who has the plan
- 2:58to thwart? The council that he fell for,
- 3:01we're coming to that point. This is a very critical chapter
- 3:05for David's life for the king. Of Israel for the future of this
- 3:07nation and what you and I are going to do as we examine these
- 3:11opposing views is that we ourselves are going to receive
- 3:15counsel meaning, as we look at these words, as we look at these
- 3:19instructions, these statements, these promises, we are also
- 3:22going to learn some things about our own walk with the Lord.
- 3:25Because the Holy Spirit, obviously preserved, the details
- 3:28of what I thought will have the same what Housh I have to say
- 3:32for more than just a historical account or a colorful episode
- 3:36and Bible. There's something instructive
- 3:38here. And I say that, every single
- 3:39week to reassure you that when you come to the Old Testament,
- 3:43you're not just reading something for you to get some
- 3:44more data for a Bible trivia. Okay, you're getting something
- 3:48for your walk with Christ, you getting something pertaining to
- 3:51your worship for him and how to navigate through this life.
- 3:53As you represent his name and you're going to find that God
- 3:56willing in these verses. So as we come let's read the
- 3:59first three verses right? We're continuing.
- 4:01There's no chapter breaks in their original text and so the
- 4:03word begins in verse one with moreover.
- 4:06Moreover, I thoughtful set to Absalom.
- 4:09Let me choose 12,000 men, and I will arise and pursued David
- 4:15tonight. I will come upon him while he is
- 4:18weary and discouraged and throw him into a panic and all the
- 4:22people who are with them will flee, I will strike down Only
- 4:26The King and I will bring all the people back to you.
- 4:29As a bride comes home to her husband, you seek the life of
- 4:32only one man, and all the people will be at peace.
- 4:39So I fell for just finished telling him take.
- 4:41David's concubines go up to the rooftop and violate them.
- 4:44That was a political statement as you learned last week.
- 4:47And now he continues because I fell for, doesn't want to just
- 4:53sever the potential reconciliation between Father
- 4:57and Son, he thoughtful wants to eliminate David completely and
- 5:02he wants to Apparently, give Absalom the assurance that you
- 5:08can now completely destroy any potential future threat from
- 5:13David and his men by listening to what I have to say, but
- 5:16there's something deeper going on here.
- 5:17Is there not we learned that last week and it's just
- 5:20reinforced here again. Actually, there are three things
- 5:25that I personally have observed in these verses and maybe you
- 5:27will see them as well. What are some things?
- 5:30Maybe you see something that I didn't see which will be great
- 5:32to discover but what are some Some things that you discover
- 5:36here with the first three verses with Opals advice that stand out
- 5:41to you. And I know some who revisit
- 5:43this. They've told us, we listen to
- 5:46the study but we didn't hear what the people have to say.
- 5:48It's very difficult to pass the mic around.
- 5:50So I'm going to repeat what you have to say, which is going to
- 5:52require something from you. Please don't let your answer be
- 5:54too lengthy. And try to be as concise as
- 5:57possible so that I can repeat it for future people who would do
- 5:59watch who can't make it or work and they want to watch this
- 6:02study later. Okay, as I make sense, just an
- 6:03added rule. To our study.
- 6:05What stands out to you from these first three verses?
- 6:07Yes. I fell for ya.
- 6:19Because it's like he's taking Revenge.
- 6:22Okay? Very good.
- 6:23I'll stop you there. I thoughtful is proposing that
- 6:26he killed David. Let's hold on to that.
- 6:30Thought any other observations? Yes.
- 6:34He wants to do it now. He wants to do it immediately.
- 6:37He wants to do it this very night.
- 6:39So there's urgency here. Very good.
- 6:41Yes. Why does he need 12,000 men to
- 6:47kill one man? Interesting thought.
- 6:49Yes, so he has some kind of a strategy here.
- 6:54Very good observation. We'll get to that in a moment he
- 6:58uses, I will quite a bit. Yes.
- 7:06Very good. You guys are doing great.
- 7:09Look at, look at the condition of David described here by I
- 7:13thoughtful, while he is weary and discouraged.
- 7:18Very good, last one. Yes.
- 7:23Oh, you guys are doing so well. He promises Absalom that if all
- 7:28goes through with his plan, there will be peace among the
- 7:33men as a result. Very good.
- 7:36You guys are excellent students of God's word.
- 7:39Let's notice the first thing here notice first.
- 7:42The amount of times that Absalom says, I will strongly suggesting
- 7:46that he wants to be the one to lead the attack on David.
- 7:50So he says, let me choose, then he goes on.
- 7:53I say I will, I will, I will, I will, there's no mention of you
- 7:58will. There's a mention of we will
- 8:01He's hopeful wants to take on this campaign himself and it's
- 8:05because I thought was motivated by personal interest and that
- 8:09personal interest as you know, is stimulated by lodging
- 8:13bitterness. There should be no doubt in our
- 8:16minds. That the reason why this plot is
- 8:18proposed is because I, he filfil wants to satisfy the thirst of
- 8:23Vengeance because of what David did to his granddaughter
- 8:26Bathsheba, let me have David myself.
- 8:32So, we should not believe for a second.
- 8:35That the reason why I thoughtful is standing in the presence of
- 8:38Absalom is because he's somewhat convinced that Absalom is the
- 8:42legitimate King appointed to be the ruler of the people of God,
- 8:47in fact, by virtue of a slip-up, we actually have evidence of
- 8:54what a heath offal really believe that about this whole
- 8:57predicament about this whole Feud about this whole conflict
- 9:01that anybody Catch it. Let's look back again here, and
- 9:04verse 2 at the end. He says, at the end of verse 2,
- 9:08I will strike down Only The Who The king.
- 9:14Hold on. I thought, I thought Absalom was
- 9:18the king, isn't that? Why you are where you are?
- 9:22No, he refers to David as the king.
- 9:28Goes to show what he really believed about who the true king
- 9:30was. And it's it's sad to see that
- 9:33even though he knew the truth, he was still willing to side
- 9:39with Rebellion. He was still willing to side
- 9:42with falsehood and I believe here, we have a little glimpse,
- 9:45a little insight of who it is and why it is some people are
- 9:50deceived and embrace wickedness. There is a great amount of
- 9:53people who are deceived because they are naive.
- 9:57And there are others who are willing to walk in deception,
- 10:01not because they're concerned about what's true, what's not
- 10:04true, but because whatever system of belief, they are
- 10:07ascribing to will ultimately gratify the flesh.
- 10:12This will satisfy my Personal Agenda, my personal interest, my
- 10:16personal itch, And so they give themselves over to something,
- 10:20just like, I hate filfil again. Not because they care about
- 10:24what's right or what's wrong, but because they're motivated by
- 10:28self-interest. you know, I've talked to many atheists
- 10:31throughout my walk with the Lord, and I've come to this
- 10:33conclusion, that most atheists, if not almost all of them except
- 10:37for a few Most atheists are atheist not because of the
- 10:42evidence supposed evidence but because of the implications of
- 10:47what it means to admit that there is a God who has a moral
- 10:50standard. That's why they're atheist
- 10:53because to ascribe to an idea that there is a God who has
- 10:58objectively provided Truth For Humanity, demands accountability
- 11:03and I don't want accountability. I want my sin.
- 11:07So don't be duped by all the smoke screen of scientific
- 11:11evidence and all the other things that they try to persuade
- 11:14people with. It's fascinating to me how most
- 11:18of these people are very angry at something that doesn't exist.
- 11:22It's amazing how when you when you even when you push on the,
- 11:25the real reason why it is that they don't want to even
- 11:28entertain the possibility of a god being true.
- 11:32It comes down to this. I want to be the god of my own
- 11:35life. I want to be the master of my
- 11:38own fate. I'm telling you there's probably
- 11:41only a handful of people that I've encountered with that were
- 11:43in that place of unbelief because they just needed some
- 11:47questions answered. You can answer as many questions
- 11:49for so many and they would still not be satisfied because
- 11:53ultimately they want to satisfy themselves, not please God.
- 11:57I thoughtful presents that as an example.
- 11:59Here he is driven by bitterness and he wants to satisfy that
- 12:03bitterness and to him. It didn't matter of David was
- 12:06the true king or not David was the object of his desire.
- 12:09And you know, what Paul says something about those who are
- 12:11walking as enemies of Christ. He says that there are, there
- 12:15are people who are walking as enemies of the Cross of Christ.
- 12:18Why? Because in Philippians 3, 19,
- 12:21their God is their belly. And their minds are set on
- 12:25Earthly things. Right.
- 12:30And that is why for some no matter how much truth you give
- 12:32them, no matter how many answers you give them no matter how much
- 12:35evidence you provide for them. They will not change.
- 12:39They will not budge because ultimately they are anchored.
- 12:43In one thing I want to please myself and not please this God
- 12:47that you're proposing to me. There's a second thing in some
- 12:50of you have mentioned that we can't move forward here without
- 12:53acknowledging something that you and I have learned in the past
- 12:54few studies. At this point of David's life,
- 12:57look at the description of David.
- 13:00Again, I thoughtful wanted to attack him at this point because
- 13:04he knew that David was weary. He knew that he was Couraged.
- 13:10And remember, when Zeba and shammai approach David in the
- 13:13wilderness, we concluded those very two things about David when
- 13:17he was deceived by ziba and slandered, by shammai, right
- 13:23that he was emotionally dejected and he was physically depleted.
- 13:28And we know obviously see here, that that's confirmed by, I feel
- 13:31foes human wisdom and he realizes this is the time.
- 13:34Now to overtake him, this is the time not to come after him and
- 13:38Satan is no. Friends.
- 13:41Just to reinforce some of the you and I learn about that.
- 13:43Satan is no different. He looks for an opportune time.
- 13:47He considers the whole man, you are, you are Spirit, soul and
- 13:51body, right? And what we do with this body,
- 13:54can affect what happens to our soul.
- 13:57And so the enemy considers the whole man and he evaluates when
- 14:01and how to come and to pounce, right?
- 14:04And if it's true, that discouragement is one of his
- 14:06sweetest opportunities for him. If it's one of the the footholds
- 14:10He uses and enjoys the most, then we have some insight of how
- 14:13to do Warfare. We have some insight of know how
- 14:16to Shield ourselves against his tactics and to help our brothers
- 14:19and sisters out in Christ. And here's the one thing I want
- 14:21to drive into your heart, encourage one another often
- 14:25often. Guys, there's enough garbage out
- 14:29there, there's enough discouragement out there in the
- 14:30world, right? Let the house of God be a
- 14:34charging station of Hope. Let that be what we should
- 14:38expect when we come into this place.
- 14:40So just lay off on the drama, we have enough at work.
- 14:43Some people here are not and Christian households.
- 14:46They have enough drama at home. We see enough of it, on our
- 14:49YouTube headlines and all the things that pop up on our
- 14:51phones, it's all out. There may this place be an oasis
- 14:56and what that will require my brother and my sister is for you
- 14:59to be filled with God's word so that your counsel and your
- 15:02encouragement can be laced with the promises of God, because
- 15:05there's no greater encouragement than that.
- 15:07And at the same time, it will also require us to reveal our
- 15:10wounds from from time to time and to expose ourselves to
- 15:14others so that we can receive the sweet counsel of a friend.
- 15:17Scripture says that he who isolates himself, what is he
- 15:22doing? He's escaping all sound
- 15:24judgment. There is an importance in
- 15:27community, as you're going to see here, there's importance of
- 15:29coming together and if Satan feeds off of discouragement, and
- 15:34let's give them nothing to work with.
- 15:37Right. And one of the ways in which we
- 15:38can do that is by pouring out such a small thing to do, right?
- 15:43It's such a small thing but it holds Dynamite power.
- 15:47It can, it can blow away anxiety, Blow Away fear Blow
- 15:51Away concern. And just a few words, the
- 15:54ministry of encouragement. Well you may not be a preacher.
- 15:58May not be a prophet. You may not be an evangelist.
- 15:59You may not be a musician, but everybody here can encourage.
- 16:03All right? I evil said he's discouraged.
- 16:05Let's come now, let's throw him into a panic before he finds
- 16:09strength and hope. All the enemy is no different,
- 16:12please remember that. And please remember, when you
- 16:14are discouraged to escape That place that state as quickly as
- 16:18possible. Find a way to encourage yourself
- 16:20in the Lord call a brother, call, the sister call a leader,
- 16:24open your heart, pray with someone and you will know
- 16:28lasting protection against the the schemes of Satan.
- 16:31Lastly, another thing. Look at how he thoughtful
- 16:34mentions, as we heard from our sister, a promise.
- 16:37If everything goes well, according to his plan and the
- 16:40promise was this, all the people at the end of verse 3 will be at
- 16:45peace. Temptation, always promises us.
- 16:50Some level of reward for our compliance with sin always
- 16:56whether that's advancement and promotion, whether that's
- 16:58lasting gratification, whether that's a peace of mind, whether
- 17:02that's material gain or escape from trouble, whenever there is
- 17:08premeditated Disobedience. It is always accompanied with
- 17:12false promises always, And idea here is to see past through
- 17:18that. I mean who would have thought
- 17:21that the death of a righteous man of a faithful leader would
- 17:25promote Tranquility in society. Yeah best of false peace among
- 17:30the wicked but not the true and Lasting peace that comes from
- 17:34reflecting God's justice and his law.
- 17:38So remember that when Temptation comes your way and you meditate
- 17:42on it, the reward that's attached to.
- 17:45It is just as much of a lie as the Temptation itself.
- 17:50Don't forget that. In verse 4, we read and the
- 17:55advice seemed right in the eyes of Absalom and all the Elders of
- 18:00Israel. What we expected that, why did
- 18:03we expect that? Because we know how chapter 16
- 18:05ended in the last verse of chapter 16, we are told we were
- 18:09given a commentary about a, he fulfills Council.
- 18:12It was Godlike. It was highly esteemed.
- 18:17It was sought after it was trusted.
- 18:20And so to see this response to this proposal as no shock to us
- 18:24but what is a shock is verse 5. Then Absalom said call who shy
- 18:32the our kite also and let us hear what he has to say.
- 18:39Why you guys already made a unanimous decision?
- 18:44It's already settled, it's right.
- 18:47That seems good and yet all of a sudden we see that there's this
- 18:51inspiration and in the man's heart to seek a second opinion
- 18:56from who shy and so he summons him now humanly speaking.
- 19:00This doesn't make sense, it doesn't?
- 19:03You have the best counselor, the top guy who gave some every, all
- 19:07the elders are nodding their head, they all give of their
- 19:09thumbs up and in something in Absalom says, well it doesn't
- 19:12hurt to hear another perspective so fetch for who shy humanly
- 19:18speaking. It doesn't make sense but when
- 19:20you put God in the equation it really does make sense.
- 19:23Did we forget the prayer that David prayed while he was in the
- 19:26wilderness? And when he learned that I
- 19:28thoughtful joined forces with Absalom, what was this summation
- 19:32of his prayer? Was a very short prayer, Lord,
- 19:35turn the wisdom of. I feel fun to what foolishness,
- 19:41if you want to reference for that second Samuel 15:31 when
- 19:45David learned what happened with a heath offal, His reflex was a
- 19:51cry, and he sighed a supplication to heaven.
- 19:54And he said, oh Lord, please turn the counsel of ahithophel
- 19:56into foolishness. And what you're seeing here in
- 19:58verse 6, of chapter 17 is God answering that prayer.
- 20:03God is fulfilling what David requested.
- 20:07And here's the point that I want to make upon meditation prayer.
- 20:12Does the unexplainable really does prayer is a force that you
- 20:17cannot imagine, but you have every right to utilize if you
- 20:21understand what it can do to some degree.
- 20:25If you just believe God's word about prayer can do prayer
- 20:29prayer. Can touch the most unlikely
- 20:31heart. Prayer can reach and arrive,
- 20:35where no, man, can go, right? Prayer can intervene in the most
- 20:40classified political conferences.
- 20:45Prayer. Can also direct the future of
- 20:50Nations and prayer. I love this point about prayer
- 20:52prayer, out lives, the lives of those who prayed them.
- 20:58Prayer is powerful. I wonder if that is what the
- 21:03Holy Spirit intended to teach us at this moment to connect what
- 21:07David prayed to Chapters earlier to this moment.
- 21:10Seeing the Fulfillment of it for you to realize at least one
- 21:12thing that a man broken and shattered, wandering in the
- 21:16wilderness. Praying can affect the plans and
- 21:22the counsel of wicked men in high places.
- 21:26Yeah, that's Old Testament. God answered prayer differently
- 21:29than why did James use an Old Testament figure to encourage
- 21:32New Testament Christians. Elijah was a man with a nature
- 21:36like ours and when he prayed something happened to Nature
- 21:39itself, I mean if if you're telling us that we're in the new
- 21:42dispensation, and God answers prayer differently, don't use.
- 21:45Elijah of all examples to inspire Christians to pray.
- 21:50A man who was also a prophet who entered into palaces and
- 21:54courtrooms and who saw God do Mighty things when he prayed and
- 21:59you and I are encouraged to do the same.
- 22:01Another thing about prayer is that God remembered David's
- 22:05prayer You might have forgotten that he prayed that prayer in
- 22:08chapter 15, but God did not forget so much has happened.
- 22:12So many updates between 15 and 17.
- 22:15And yet, we know that God heard that cry held onto it and at the
- 22:18perfect time answered it. God remembers When you pray, God
- 22:25holds onto you. You might have forgotten that
- 22:27you've prayed something God. Didn't?
- 22:29This is how faithful the Lord is and he does it for his glory.
- 22:33Prayer has power. God remembers prayer.
- 22:37Can I ask you a question? How many times?
- 22:41Did Abraham rescued. Lot from Sodom.
- 22:49How many times? Good twice.
- 22:53The first time. How did it happen?
- 22:55Well, this is when initially lot decide to move into Sodom bad
- 22:58move, bad move, chapter 13, chapter 14.
- 23:02There's a war that breaks out between five Kings and for
- 23:04kings, and who's caught up in the conflict lot.
- 23:07Because Sodom was one of those kingdoms apps.
- 23:10Rather Abraham is Uncle heard about it and he recruits 318
- 23:14trained men and they go into the camp and they rescue lines,
- 23:18right? By the strength of the arm God
- 23:22did help them. It was a miraculous thing for
- 23:23318, men to come into an army to bring out lat.
- 23:26It's wonderful. It's a great testimony.
- 23:29But what was the second time? Genesis, 19.
- 23:32The Lord and to Angels visits Abraham in Genesis 18 and
- 23:36Abraham receives Revelation about what's going to come to
- 23:38Sodom and Gomorrah. So what does he do?
- 23:40Did he get 318 men again as you get the sword as you get
- 23:43Javelin? What does he do?
- 23:44He prays He stands before the presence of God and he
- 23:48intercedes on behalf of his nephew lot.
- 23:51And we were told there after lot is rescued at the end of Genesis
- 23:5419 and the Lord remembered Abraham The Lord remembered
- 24:01Abraham, I love that Peril. I love how God gave us two
- 24:05stories of lot being rescued. The first one was with the
- 24:09sword, the first one was with weapons and men and strength,
- 24:12right? Flesh.
- 24:14It's not - it's just a different tactic.
- 24:16And yet when that same man needed to rescue the same end,
- 24:21he relies on prayer and it was just as effective as an army.
- 24:25It was just as effective as Weapons, it was just as
- 24:28effective as a strategy to go in physically to come out, prayer
- 24:31went and prayer did what we often think, only our ideas and
- 24:36our abilities can do does more than that.
- 24:40Pray. Pray often, I'm going to end
- 24:44this Bible study in a certain way.
- 24:45I'm going to ask you by faith to actually pray about something
- 24:48before you leave this place because we're not here to just
- 24:50acquire information, we want to respond to the truth that we
- 24:52receive pray. How much do you pray?
- 24:56How much do you believe in prayer?
- 24:57How much do you believe prayer can do all be reminded today,
- 25:00that you can even sigh a prayer, you can be distracted and yet in
- 25:03a little Mustard Seed Faith, utter a prayer, God will hear it
- 25:06and you can change the heart of Kings.
- 25:11So they called for who shine and who shy comes, and look at verse
- 25:157 and Housh, I said to Absalom. Let's read verse six and one who
- 25:21shot came to Absalom. Absalom set to him.
- 25:25Thus has I fofa spoken, shall we do as?
- 25:31He says, if not, if not you speak.
- 25:38Very direct. If I was hoosh, I personally I
- 25:42would be intimidated. Why would he shy be intimidated,
- 25:47any idea? Okay, so you already had a
- 25:55consensus. Everybody agreed with what I
- 25:58feel for have to say. Yes that is part of it.
- 26:01Let's add to that when a Absalom came into Jerusalem and he was
- 26:06met by who shies long live the king long live.
- 26:09The king was Absalom suspicious, he was suspicious.
- 26:15It's like this is how you treat your friend?
- 26:17Is this your loyalty to your friend?
- 26:20And who shy cleverly presented? His apparent shift of loyalty
- 26:25without being too detailed. So some suspicions subsided and
- 26:30here's the here's the Dilemma, not only do you have the popular
- 26:33vote? If you have who shy now standing
- 26:36against the Council of IE thoughtful, he might revive
- 26:40those initial intuitions that Absalom had him put himself in
- 26:43danger. This is a critical point for his
- 26:46shy. This is actually a dangerous
- 26:48place for his shy. The danger is that in this
- 26:51moment, depending on how he answers can expose himself and
- 26:54put himself a great harm, but there's another danger.
- 26:57The danger is this to miss out on a golden opportunity to make
- 27:01a difference for why he originally was sent to this
- 27:03place. A very unique instance, a very
- 27:06unique moment but the principle can be applied to Believers and
- 27:10what they should expect in their pilgrimage believer.
- 27:13There will be times if you're a Really loves the gospel and
- 27:17wants to be used by the Lord. There will be times where you'll
- 27:19be put in situations in which you will have the opportunity to
- 27:22speak up and it might cost you something to speak up.
- 27:26There will be times where you have the opportunity and you
- 27:28might be the only source. The only voice of reason to
- 27:33oppose evil. And to propose God's view, God's
- 27:38will God's truth on a matter, whether it's controversial or
- 27:41not. And in those decisions, you have
- 27:44to make a choice before you make that choice.
- 27:46And that choice is, am I willing to do this no matter what?
- 27:48It cost me now we've all been in those different situations.
- 27:51I'm sure in the past if you walk with the Lord long enough, even
- 27:54in the early phases of walking, with the Lord, you felt the
- 27:57pressure to remain quiet. While there is falsehood being
- 28:00presented or blasphemy being uttered.
- 28:03Whether that's at work, whether that's in the classroom, whether
- 28:06that's at the family gatherings. We've all felt the intimidation
- 28:11to just remain quiet and let it pass by.
- 28:14Although you know that you must say something.
- 28:17Can I can I give you a word of encouragement to help you
- 28:20overcome those hurdles of your visited by them again, right.
- 28:25Ask yourself this one simple question.
- 28:27It's very simple. And and train yourself to ask
- 28:29this question. When you walk into the places
- 28:32that God has placed you, Why am I really here?
- 28:36It's not deep but it's really helpful.
- 28:38What is this? All really about?
- 28:41Why did God in his Providence? Put me here with this
- 28:44opportunity for this season, at this time, what is it?
- 28:48Is it like who shine who shine was sent by the king to go there
- 28:52with a specific Duty? Do I have the Heavenly Mandate
- 28:56of the Gospel in the Forefront of my thinking, or are my goals
- 29:00and our, my Pursuits muddied with temporal causes and
- 29:04rewards. See oftentimes, they're the
- 29:07obstacles and the hurdles to our witness have to do with things
- 29:10tied to to the stuff under the sun reputation preservation.
- 29:16Promotion. And this is a very important
- 29:19word of advice here and exhortation.
- 29:22We're now, we're seeing companies asking you to use
- 29:26certain pronouns certain titles for things that are obviously,
- 29:29in blatantly a violation of God's word.
- 29:32So be encouraged by this, right? Ask yourself this.
- 29:35What am I really doing? What is this really all about?
- 29:41And if you're Christian, you can answer that easily.
- 29:45I'm an ambassador. I am a representative of the
- 29:49Lord Jesus Christ. And my purpose in life is not to
- 29:53be prettier, not to be more in shape, not having more
- 29:56comfortable retirement not to make as many friends as
- 29:58possible. Not to be successful person.
- 30:01It is to preach the gospel, that's your goal in life.
- 30:06No matter what you do, what your gifts are that is ultimately the
- 30:11reason why you're here. And if you can convince yourself
- 30:15of that over and over, I'm telling you it will energize a
- 30:18holy boldness. Because if that's your purpose,
- 30:22then it doesn't matter what happens here, doesn't matter
- 30:25what happens to you, it doesn't ultimately affect why you're
- 30:28here and where you're going, so let that strengthen you.
- 30:33Well I might lose my job, okay? He's going to take care of you.
- 30:38Well, I might lose this person might make things awkward.
- 30:40That's fine. What's going to be more?
- 30:42Awkward is if that person knew that you knew the truth and you
- 30:45didn't tell them and it costs them their Eternal Soul.
- 30:47That's more Awkward trust me. At the same time I get it.
- 30:51There are some people who hear this kind of message and they
- 30:53feel it guilt. And they feel this this sense
- 30:55that I gotta touch every passing person.
- 30:58And I got a minister to at least one, two, three people a day.
- 31:02That's not the case. They're still called to wisdom.
- 31:04And who shine here is is going to implement wisdom in his
- 31:06approach. I'm not saying go wild and be
- 31:09crazy and just stand on cars, and yell, and stand in the bus
- 31:13and just shout at people and stand in the office at lunch
- 31:15break and don't do that please. At the same time, don't Let the
- 31:21threats or the intimidations of this world silence, you?
- 31:27This is going to this could potentially cause who shies
- 31:29life. But why is he shy even here?
- 31:31To begin with because King David said, go back.
- 31:34I need you there. And I need you to represent me.
- 31:38I need you to help me just remind yourself of that when you
- 31:41wake up and you get into your car and you grab your coffee and
- 31:44you go to work. Lord, help me.
- 31:46Remember, it's more than a paycheck, it's more than a
- 31:48paycheck. God will help you will give you
- 31:50wisdom and so this is what happens.
- 31:53He's about to speak up and he realizes, this is an opportunity
- 31:56that I might not have. Again, this is a vital
- 31:58opportunity because of a, he fulfills advice has received
- 32:01David? Might be finished verse 7.
- 32:04That who should I set the Absalom this time?
- 32:06The So, that I fell for has given is not good.
- 32:10Very wise men. Why do you think this is wise?
- 32:13Because he's not altogether discrediting?
- 32:16He thoughtful, he's saying this time.
- 32:18It's not good. I like who shine.
- 32:21He says this time, it's not good and then we read here in verse
- 32:248. He shy said, you know, that your
- 32:26father and his men are Mighty Men and that they are enraged
- 32:30like a bear robbed of her Cubs in the field.
- 32:33Besides, your father is expert in war.
- 32:36He will not spend the night with the people behold.
- 32:39Even now he has hidden himself and one of the pits or In some
- 32:42other place. And as soon as some of the
- 32:44people fall at the first attack, whoever hears it will say there
- 32:48has been a Slaughter among the people who follow Absalom.
- 32:53What we see here is something very, very interesting.
- 32:56The first thing that he says, is you look at verse 8, is that he
- 32:58reminds Absalom That the task ahead is not as simple as a
- 33:05heath opal made it to be right? This is more difficult and this
- 33:10is more challenging than what you may think it is.
- 33:13And he says a few things about his father, your father is a
- 33:16mighty man, and he has mighty men with him.
- 33:18He's an expert in war and they are mad.
- 33:22They've been driven from their home, they've been driven from
- 33:24their their families, their friends, their positions, the
- 33:28Comforts their livelihood, they are not at the best place right
- 33:34now. They are extra motivated to deal
- 33:37with us. And so, he encourages Absalom to
- 33:42plan carefully, he encourages Absalom more than that, to
- 33:46really count the cost of what he is about to do.
- 33:52And the tactic here. The strategy here though who
- 33:55shies motive is different has been used by the Lord.
- 33:58Jesus Jesus. Also in his call to
- 34:02discipleship. Encouraged and charge people to
- 34:06sit down and think before they actually Endeavor to commit
- 34:12themselves to his cause, and he actually uses two illustrations,
- 34:16very short Parables side-by-side to communicate to illustrate.
- 34:20What it is that he requires of his hearers before they actually
- 34:24make any type of confession. What are those two
- 34:26illustrations? Do, you know what I'm speaking
- 34:27about? While you're thinking about it,
- 34:31turn to Luke 14 there. The answer will be in verse 28.
- 34:34But if you know before, then what are the two Parables?
- 34:37That Jesus is use that Jesus used in order to communicate,
- 34:41the need to contemplate before committing to his cause anybody
- 34:45have an idea. Okay, you're that's another one,
- 34:50right? He uses that when it when it
- 34:52came to Luke chapter 9 and several different people came up
- 34:56saying, I want to follow you and one said, you know, I really
- 34:59want to do this and he's like, you don't understand what you're
- 35:01getting yourself into in terms of comfort and Leisure.
- 35:03The other one says, I want to bury my father, he told another
- 35:05one, follow me and there's all these excuses and delays but
- 35:09it's not. That's not what I'm referring
- 35:10to. There's another two sets of
- 35:11Parables a little lengthier than that that Jesus uses while
- 35:16you're there. So you know it, look at verse
- 35:1828. Eight.
- 35:20Of Luke 14 for which of you Desiring to build the Tower.
- 35:26There's not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has
- 35:28enough to complete it, otherwise when he has laid a foundation
- 35:32and is not able to finish all, who see it.
- 35:34Begin to mock him saying, this man began to build and was not
- 35:37able to finish. Then in verse 31 or what?
- 35:41King going up to encounter another king and War will not
- 35:45sit down first. And the deliberate, whether he
- 35:48is able with ten thousand to meet him, who comes against him
- 35:50with Tony thousand. And if not, while the other is
- 35:54yet a great way off, he sends a delegation asks for terms of
- 35:58peace to parables. They both have something in
- 36:02common their different ideas, but they share something in
- 36:06common and Jesus actually reveals it.
- 36:08What is it? What are they both share in
- 36:09common the Builder and the King they both have to sit down
- 36:16there. Both expected to sit down and
- 36:18count both of them. Sit down.
- 36:23And meditate reflect evaluate what it is that you're really
- 36:28going to do often times and modern gospel presentations.
- 36:32We get people to reach the heat of emotion.
- 36:35We put, we make things happen. So that there is, there is more
- 36:40heart than there is head, and then we call for people to make
- 36:43a decision. When they don't really realize
- 36:46what they're getting themselves into urgency is undeniable with
- 36:50the gospel. But urgency with
- 36:53self-reflection, urgency with self-evaluation, urgency with
- 36:57thoughtfulness urgency with Clarity, on the part of the
- 37:01messenger to remind you to tell you to inform you.
- 37:04What it is, it means to follow Jesus and for that person to
- 37:07really contemplate their life and what they're willing to do
- 37:10with this message and though they share the parable share,
- 37:14The economy, there's two differences, the Builder.
- 37:18Had to think about whether or not they can afford to commence
- 37:22this project. Can I really give what it takes
- 37:26for me to do this very thing? Am I willing to make the
- 37:31expenses necessary to go full force with this thing?
- 37:39Whereas the King has a different way of thinking, the King on the
- 37:44other hand, is not necessarily counting what it might cost him
- 37:49to move forward. The king is contemplating,
- 37:52whether or not he should resist or make terms of peace with
- 37:56opposing Force. So the king had to think I have
- 38:0010,000 this king who wants to come against me, has 20,000,
- 38:06will I go to war or will I submit to his demands?
- 38:11And so what you have here is really a complete picture of
- 38:14contemplation at first. We ought to always think At
- 38:20least. Initially, am I willing to go
- 38:22full force with this? Am I willing to give everything
- 38:24that I have? Whatever is required of me to
- 38:26fulfill my call to discipleship, but the second presentation, the
- 38:30second Parable is a different process.
- 38:32Its this. Am I willing to resist this king
- 38:37or make terms of peace with him? What I mean by that is the first
- 38:44idea presents us. The cost of following Jesus
- 38:48because there is a cost of following him, right?
- 38:51This second, one has a different emphasis the cost of not
- 38:54following him. Do I think that I can overpower
- 39:00overthrow reject stand as an enemy to this coming King and
- 39:04think I can succeed or will I bow the knee and surrender
- 39:09before it's too late there is a cost to following Christ.
- 39:13There's a greater cost of not following you.
- 39:17And the person who hears, the gospel should think about both
- 39:19paths and they're willing to pay the price to follow Lord or I
- 39:24willing to pay the price to resist him and reject him have
- 39:29my way. And Jesus.
- 39:34Plain description, your shows that that's a, that's a failing
- 39:38idea because this King has 20,000, you have ten, you will
- 39:41not be able to overcome, he will be king, he will be Lord, you'll
- 39:45receive worship whether you give it to him or not.
- 39:50I thoughtful. Didn't present that kind of
- 39:53argument who shy does. And he says absent realize what
- 39:57you're up against and really think about it and plan
- 40:00accordingly and then he goes into verse 9, you heard it.
- 40:03He makes a different emphasis. He reminds Absalom now of the
- 40:08planned counter-attack that is prepared by David and his men
- 40:13because they are experienced Warriors and have Absalom is not
- 40:17ready. The men that will be sent out
- 40:20with a he Pho. Pho will be taken by surprise
- 40:22and they will have consequences for the morale of the rest of
- 40:25the people who are on his side. And so who shy is reminding
- 40:28Absalom What you and I need to be mindful of concerning our
- 40:34foe, right? The principal is alive and well
- 40:36for us though, this is specific to a context.
- 40:39The principal's still applicable.
- 40:41We have an enemy, we have a foe and he's not inexperienced, he's
- 40:46not inexperienced and listen, he is not unprepared to come
- 40:50against the people of God from different angles.
- 40:54And I'm afraid. That people who believe in
- 40:57spiritual warfare because the scriptural thing.
- 41:00Don't understand. The mechanics of spiritual
- 41:04warfare, it happens all the time.
- 41:07Paul says we do not wrestle against flesh and blood and
- 41:10that's where many Christians fail already.
- 41:12Because when they experience certain trials or persecution or
- 41:16irritation from fellow professing Christians, what do
- 41:19they do? They fight against flesh and
- 41:20blood? You already.
- 41:21You're already lost at the ABCs of spiritual warfare.
- 41:26If you can't see past the understanding that we don't
- 41:29wrestle against people, we wrestle against cosmic, power,
- 41:33spiritual forces, principalities in high places.
- 41:36If you can't get that, that's the ABCs.
- 41:38And there's more to that. And here's what Paul says.
- 41:40And, you know, this very well, he tells the Corinthian Church
- 41:42in 2nd Corinthians 2 and he says, in verse 11 so that we
- 41:46would not be outwitted by Satan. So that we would not be
- 41:50outwitted by Satan. Why?
- 41:52For we are not ignorant of his designs.
- 41:55So, Paul expected Christians, not just pastors, not Apostles,
- 42:00not prophets. Christians, who go to work?
- 42:03Who make a living and humble ways.
- 42:06You are not ignorant of Satan's designs, right?
- 42:08Corinthian Christians. Okay, what was the context in
- 42:13which Paul said that, anybody know.
- 42:16Why did Paul say that at this point in 2nd Corinthians chapter
- 42:192? Let me remind you second
- 42:24Corinthians chapter 2. This is his second letter to the
- 42:27Corinthians. There was a man that was
- 42:29excommunicated from the church. The very same church that he
- 42:31wrote In First Corinthians, he was excommunicated from the
- 42:34church because of unrepented said, because of a gross sexual
- 42:38violation, he was he was having affairs with his father's wife
- 42:43and the people did not care. They tolerated it and Paul says,
- 42:47get them out. Get him out, which is important
- 42:51because for those who believe that Christians can be possessed
- 42:55and that it's the spirit of lust that comes over you called and
- 42:58said, I'm going to cast that demon that Spirit of lust out of
- 43:00that man. He says no he needs Church to
- 43:02this, play needs to go, just throw that out there.
- 43:04Forever might be watching. And so this man.
- 43:10Ends up leaving the congregation, right?
- 43:13The people were obedient to Paul's Authority, but in second
- 43:16Corinthians chapter 2, you learn something.
- 43:18You learn that the same man repents And the same man is
- 43:25broken over his sin and he's seeking forgiveness.
- 43:28He's seeking reconciliation with a very same church.
- 43:31That was faithful and confronting his sin, and Paul is
- 43:34urging them. Forgive him.
- 43:36Paul is urging them, please restore him reassure him of your
- 43:40love for him, and then he throws in that verse 4.
- 43:44We are what we should not be outwitted by saying for we are
- 43:47not ignorant of his designs. I want you to think about how
- 43:50conniving the devil is when the people were willing to let the
- 43:55man remain in his sin, Satan had Victory to some degree.
- 43:59Satan would have enjoyed destroying that congregation by
- 44:03allowing A little leaven to leaven the whole lump, right?
- 44:07And once the people stepped in obedience and dealt with that
- 44:11person's sin, Satan was right there to ensure that they would
- 44:16not continue in obedience and what sense when this man
- 44:20repented. The enemy who was willing to
- 44:25allow this man to justify his sin and was pleased to see this
- 44:29church justify. His sin is now ready to convince
- 44:33them. Not to forgive this man for his
- 44:35sin. And to withhold mercy and
- 44:39restoration from this. Very same man. so, his schemes
- 44:46Were right there, every step of the way.
- 44:49When the sin was tolerated in some way, he was there.
- 44:53When the scene was repented of and this man was broken over his
- 44:57sin, he was right there to make sure that this man would not
- 44:59know the Forgiveness of Christ through the people of God.
- 45:02He's very, very conniving and his schemes were not just
- 45:06hovering over this local church. They're equally at work in this
- 45:10individual. what I mean by that again, when he was living in his
- 45:14sin, that's a wonderful victory for the enemy.
- 45:19That's just one other person who's failing in his testimony
- 45:21for Jesus Christ. Satan.
- 45:24Applauded at Satan. Love this Satan.
- 45:25Encouraged it. And the same man, who overcame
- 45:31And repented, we read here that the enemy was seeking to crush
- 45:36him, not by his sin, but by his remorse, for his sin, excessive
- 45:40sorrow and despair. Do you see how he's so
- 45:44conniving? And he's so present.
- 45:47And he always seeks an opportunity to wedge himself in
- 45:51whether that is with the Toleration of sin.
- 45:54Or being merciless regarding people sin.
- 45:58So we need the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, we need a
- 46:01sensitivity to the word of God. And, you know, I was meditating
- 46:05on this this afternoon and I thought to myself there's
- 46:07there's so many profound truths that just shoot forth from that,
- 46:11from that tax and that truth. And here's one of them how
- 46:14essential the local churches for us as individuals.
- 46:17Think about this for a second, the local church was used by God
- 46:22to confront this man sinned. And the local church was also
- 46:26used by God to comfort. This man regarding his sin, you
- 46:31can't do all that. You think you can do without the
- 46:34people of God, you're a fool. If you think so.
- 46:38This man teaches me that God uses the local church to not
- 46:45only promote Holiness but to promote the loving kindness of
- 46:49God, that is how God expresses this to us, as individuals
- 46:54through the members of his body. And this man would know that he
- 47:00would know the loving rebuke of God's truth to the people who
- 47:03uphold the truth. But he would also know the balm
- 47:05of healing from the very same people, when this man learned
- 47:08his lesson, turn from his wrong and fell into their arms, it's
- 47:12the church, the local church. A healthy God-fearing wise
- 47:17church is so necessary. For each of us, never forget
- 47:21that. Never forget that.
- 47:22There are many people who want to make many decisions about
- 47:25their life moving here. Taking a job there.
- 47:29Can I ask you something in your decision process and you're
- 47:32thinking is there any place or what priority does the local
- 47:35church have in your life? I'm so encouraged, when I meet
- 47:42people that say, We feel like God is calling us here.
- 47:47And, and then, in the very same breath, there's a local church,
- 47:50that preaches God's word Faithfully, that has godly
- 47:52people who want to imitate him and we're so excited to be part
- 47:55of that Community. Like that's how Christians
- 47:58think. We don't go places and move
- 48:01places and do things for for just the same reasons that the
- 48:05Gentiles do. That's not how we operate,
- 48:07right? Nothing just throwing out there.
- 48:12So, what happens? We see that t reminds him of the
- 48:19strategies of David and we also have to be mindful the
- 48:22strategies of the evil one. Now, let's come here.
- 48:25We're closing very soon. In verse 11 of second Samuel 17,
- 48:30it says, but my counsel is that all Israel be gathered to you
- 48:34from Dan to Beersheba as the Sand by the sea from multitude
- 48:39and that you go to battle in person.
- 48:41So we shall come upon him and someplace where he is to be
- 48:44found and we shall light upon him as do falls on the ground
- 48:47and of him and all the men with him.
- 48:49No one will be left. Okay?
- 48:51This is where we see a strong contrast between the counsel of
- 48:54ahithophel and the Council of who shy.
- 48:57What stands out to you in the concluding remarks of this, man.
- 49:10How many men did hoosh? I?
- 49:11Advise, I thoughtful or Absalom to take the whole nation.
- 49:16Take them all from Dan to Beersheba.
- 49:18Don't just take 12,000. Take as many as you can.
- 49:24So absalom's hearing something different Absalom is hearing.
- 49:27Yeah the more the merrier, the more number the greater our
- 49:31strength. The more number, the more
- 49:34intimidating will be to my father and his mighty men.
- 49:38And who shies mine? What is he thinking?
- 49:42Let's buy some more time. It's going to require much more
- 49:44time for you to gather all these men from the different tribes of
- 49:47Israel. And that's precisely what he is
- 49:49doing. He wants David and his men to be
- 49:51better prepared for what is inevitable and that is an attack
- 49:54from Absalom. Delay.
- 49:58In this sense is good, it's good for David, but delay can be
- 50:02deadly depending on what we hold off on.
- 50:07Apart from salvation, there are many things that the Lord Jesus
- 50:09calls us not to wait on there. Are many instructions to wait
- 50:13upon the Lord. There are many things that you
- 50:14don't need to pray about. You just don't you saying, what
- 50:18do you mean by that? Well, there's some things that
- 50:20are so clear in the scripture that the pray about it would
- 50:22just to hinder you from doing what, you know, you're supposed
- 50:24to do. Here's one thing you're supposed
- 50:25to do when there is anger, when there's animosity, when there's
- 50:29potential Strife, when there's tension with a brother or
- 50:31sister, what are you supposed to do?
- 50:33Matthew 5, 25 says. To meet with your accuser and to
- 50:37settle with them quickly. Matthew 525, quickly settle the
- 50:43matter with your accuser quickly.
- 50:46And so there is emergency protocol in some regards right
- 50:50or else like we just heard we give we give footholds to the
- 50:52enemy. And so we should be equally
- 50:55mindful of the things that call for us to rush into and things
- 50:58that we should wait on God for. And so this concept of delay is
- 51:04important for us, it was important for David.
- 51:07It's important for us in different ways and concerning
- 51:09our Warfare and unfortunately, some Believers don't realize
- 51:12that and they don't understand that their delay in certain
- 51:14areas, can actually empower the enemy more and more as each day
- 51:18goes by, but there's a second thing.
- 51:20What else stands out to you from who shies concluding remarks?
- 51:26In comparison to Eiffel. We all very good.
- 51:34What was I thoughtful saying over and over again?
- 51:37Let me choose 12,000 men and I will, I will, I will, I will now
- 51:44shy comes and he does say we but he does something else.
- 51:47I want you to look here at the end of verse 11, he says you go
- 51:53to battle in person. I've always said I'll do it.
- 52:01I'll be more than willing to do it when he's shy comes.
- 52:06Oh, you shy. Hey absolutely gather all the
- 52:09men but don't let those men go without you lead that great
- 52:14Army, make your presence known go in there and show yourself.
- 52:21Let there be no confusion about who is going to receive credit
- 52:23for this Victory would be shy is doing is appealing to absalom's
- 52:29Pride. He's seeking to further inflate
- 52:32his ego and he knows that Absalom is a man who cannot
- 52:36refuse the opportunity of potential vainglory, right.
- 52:41And so Absalom is getting excited.
- 52:44He likes this because again, it just feeds his own Pride, it
- 52:47feeds his own self-esteem, and he's willing to he's willing to
- 52:51do this. And he does comply, he does
- 52:53agree with it. And we look here at verse 14,
- 52:57and we read and Absalom and all the men of Israel said, the
- 53:00Council of who shy the, our kite is better than the Council of a
- 53:03heath offal. And it's not because of anything
- 53:06other than what we read following that for the Lord had
- 53:08ordained to defeat the Good Counsel that he thoughtful.
- 53:14This was a decree by God. Was it an arbitrary decree?
- 53:18No. God didn't just decree this
- 53:21randomly God, decreed this because God has a law.
- 53:27There are many things in his law that applied to this day and one
- 53:31of the things in his law is this that he exalts the humble and he
- 53:36brings down the proud. In fact, James says that he
- 53:39opposes the proud that were deposed in.
- 53:42The Greek is a military term. Meaning God will actually raise
- 53:48up a rank against the person who harbors and holds onto his
- 53:53pride. That that to me is one of the
- 53:56most frightening verses in the New Testament.
- 53:59You know why? Because I already have the devil
- 54:01fighting against me. I have Satan fighting against me
- 54:04and you, I have the flesh, I have this world.
- 54:08The last thing I need to fight against me as God.
- 54:13Right. I needed to be on my side and I
- 54:15want to be on his side. And the one thing that will
- 54:17cause God to oppose a man is when he is proud.
- 54:21And so because of absalom's Pride God had determined his
- 54:26destruction. And he's actually going to use
- 54:29the very Pride that he hates to destroy.
- 54:35Absolutely. For the Lord, had ordained to
- 54:39defeat the Good Counsel of a thoughtful.
- 54:42I look at this so that the Lord might bring harm upon
- 54:47absolutely. Remember the prayer that David
- 54:52prayed O Lord, turn the counsel of ahithophel into foolishness.
- 54:58Was in this long elaborate strategy that he asked of God,
- 55:02no is a simple prayer. And what I see here is that
- 55:05after praying that God was willing to answer, he's going to
- 55:08defeat the Good Counsel but there's something added to that
- 55:10so that the Lord might bring harm upon Absalom, David didn't
- 55:14pray for that. In fact, when you see that
- 55:16there's a war that will break down the neck, Chapter David
- 55:19wanted to preserve Absalom. Remember, he asked whatever you
- 55:23do, don't kill my son, remember that seems heartfelt, but the
- 55:28very mess that David is in is because when he should have
- 55:31implemented discipline, he didn't and Absalom cause of
- 55:35Revolt, right? So no matter how strong David's
- 55:39feelings were for his son. God knew what he needed.
- 55:43And what he needed was for his son to be removed from his life.
- 55:48David didn't pray that but God knew he needed that and when I
- 55:53want you to understand is that when you pray, God always does
- 55:55more than what you asked, that's what Ephesians tells us, right?
- 55:57That he is able to do abundantly more than we can ask or imagine.
- 56:01And so even with our limited view on things even even with
- 56:04our little faith that we got, even though we have a linear one
- 56:07dimensional perspective on matters.
- 56:09When we partner with God, he does and he performs more than
- 56:13we thought we needed or we knew we needed and we should trust
- 56:16them in those things. And so, I'm encouraged to see
- 56:20that that the Holy Spirit included that the Lord might
- 56:22bring harm upon Absalom. That wasn't part of the prayer,
- 56:25but that was a needed part of David's life.
- 56:29And the Lord knew how to provide exactly that.
- 56:33And so, I'm grateful that even in the New Testament were told
- 56:35that we don't know how we ought to pray.
- 56:37We don't know how we ought to pray, but the spirit of God,
- 56:41intercedes for us. You know what that means.
- 56:44It means this that when you pray and you don't have the right
- 56:46words or you don't know how to exactly pray about the
- 56:49situation. The Holy Spirit, takes your
- 56:52fragmented, even sometimes your ramblings, your incoherent cries
- 56:59and he perfectly presents it before.
- 57:02The throne of grace. And God perfectly answers.
- 57:07It all. He asked of you is that one
- 57:08simple step of faith. God, I need you.
- 57:12God, I don't know where to go from here.
- 57:14I don't know how to deal with this God.
- 57:15I think that the answer to this is this prayer.
- 57:17Would you would you do that? Sometimes God doesn't in his
- 57:22wisdom. Sometimes God does and often
- 57:24times he doesn't, he does more. He does more.
- 57:27Here's how I want us to end our time tonight.
- 57:30I want you in all sincerity in your heart.
- 57:32There's so much more in this, but we're going to pause to do
- 57:35something. That is, I think, important from
- 57:37time to time to respond immediately to what we learn
- 57:41Just in your heart whatever you're dealing with at this very
- 57:45moment, whatever it is that you're asking God for it could
- 57:49be, it could be anything. To believe in the power of
- 57:54Prayer. And you might be facing a
- 58:00situation where somebody's heart.
- 58:04Has no heartbeat. It's cold, as can be as dead as
- 58:08can be as confused as can be. And there's Absalom, right?
- 58:17He had no reason to ask for secondary Council and yet he
- 58:20did, There's Something inspired in his heart to reach out.
- 58:25Yes, it was for his discipline because he was unrepentant, but
- 58:27let's pray the way Abraham prayed, not for the destruction
- 58:31of those that we care for necessarily, but for their
- 58:34Redemption, their rescue, their deliverance, and God will
- 58:38remember your prayer, he will. So, in this, in this very
- 58:42moment, I'm going to ask you before we sing a song before
- 58:44anybody even comes up to the play.
- 58:47Jay. To believe a fresh in the power
- 58:51of intercession in supplication. Say God, I might be tired.
- 58:57It might be the end of a work week, but what I heard, I
- 58:59believe, and I want to present this to you and trust that you
- 59:04will remember this and that you will bring it to fruition.
- 59:08Can we do that? I'm going to join you.
- 59:10I'm going to put my microphone down.
- 59:12And I'm going to sit in that Pew and and do that very same thing.
- 59:16Come up here. And called for us to worship
- 59:20together. I grab the mic again
- 1:00:10intentionally this quickly. To encourage you that you can
- 1:00:15pray a short prayer 's and they are just as significant to God.
- 1:00:20Scripture says Rejoice always pray without ceasing give thanks
- 1:00:24in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
- 1:00:28for you. Make it a habit to pray.
- 1:00:32Always as you walk as you drive, as you work with your hands as
- 1:00:36you type on your computer to remain in communication with
- 1:00:39your heavenly father, I'm going to ask the worship team to come
- 1:00:42in and help us lead us in a final song.
- 1:00:56And I want to encourage you to Worship the Lord Jesus tonight
- 1:01:00with many things that were said, but with the one Revelation that
- 1:01:03he remembers our prayers, he hears our cries, he is working.
- 1:01:09When we don't see him working, he is faithful to his word.
- 1:01:13Amen. Would you stand?
- 1:01:19Hello. We do pray together.
- 1:01:24Now thanking you for your goodness and we asked o God that
- 1:01:30you would be exalted. As we end this night in your
- 1:01:32presence with God's people, thanking you for the truths that
- 1:01:37were laced in this chapter and Lord we are reminded again of
- 1:01:42the powerful purpose of the local church in our lives that
- 1:01:46you have ordained for your people in line.
- 1:01:49Local assemblies. To push us into further
- 1:01:53Holiness. And to receive us.
- 1:01:54When we are broken or help us. Love your church, your bride,
- 1:01:58your people, a fresh. We glorify you.
- 1:02:01And we exalt thee, As we sing to you, in Jesus name, amen.
- 1:01:51To push us into further Holiness.
- 1:01:53And to receive us. When we are broken or help us.
- 1:01:56Love your church, your bride, your people, a fresh.
- 1:02:00We glorify you. And we exalt thee, As we sing to
- 1:02:02you, in Jesus name, amen.
