- 0:00Speaker 1: We are going to stay in the ACC for Miami
- 0:03Speaker 1: and North Carolina presented by prize picks. The Canes go
- 0:07Speaker 1: to a Halloween night game in Chapel Hill against a
- 0:13Speaker 1: team that is probably slightly better than we were expecting
- 0:18Speaker 1: this year. Like we looked at last year's schedule and
- 0:20Speaker 1: thought like, Oh, this is easy. They'll win a lot
- 0:22Speaker 1: of games. And then we looked at the, and they didn't,
- 0:24Speaker 1: then we looked at this year's schedule and and said, dude,
- 0:27Speaker 1: they're losing to TCU. Can they find their way to
- 0:29Speaker 1: four wins? I think their Vegas over-under was like three
- 0:31Speaker 1: and a half or four and a half. They've already, essentially,
- 0:35Speaker 1: they're going to beat that, right? I guess they haven't
- 0:37Speaker 1: beat it if you got it on the four and
- 0:38Speaker 1: a half line. North Carolina's been surprisingly better than I
- 0:42Speaker 1: thought this year. And they took down Duke. They've got
- 0:45Speaker 1: some wins. They shoot. They had the lead against Clemson
- 0:48Speaker 1: and blew that, but they played well enough in that game.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Like I'm not trying to hype North Carolina as a
- 0:54Speaker 1: real team, like that's going to go out, but they've
- 0:56Speaker 1: been better than expected. So shout out to Belichick and
- 0:58Speaker 1: them for, for all the off season drama, getting things
- 1:01Speaker 1: turned around and at least winning more games than you're
- 1:04Speaker 1: losing at this point. I don't expect them to win
- 1:06Speaker 1: this game, but if they can make it competitive, maybe
- 1:08Speaker 1: Miami's in a little bit of a look ahead spot
- 1:11Speaker 1: after the game against Florida state after beating pit. Um,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and then clearly, you know, what's next week, right? A
- 1:18Speaker 1: top five matchup on the road. Maybe North Carolina can
- 1:20Speaker 1: make this game competitive. So Miami clear and apart the
- 1:23Speaker 1: best team in the country right now. So, uh, you know,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I'm not trying to sell you on, Oh, is this
- 1:27Speaker 1: an upset possibility? I guess every week's an upset possibility
- 1:30Speaker 1: in college football this year, but, um, Shout out North Carolina, man,
- 1:34Speaker 1: for at least making me care about this game a
- 1:36Speaker 1: little bit. Maybe that's what I'm most excited about is
- 1:38Speaker 1: before the season, I thought, oh, no chance this matters.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I think it matters a little bit now.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I mean, that defensive line has been playing out of
- 1:45Speaker 2: its mind for North Carolina.
- 1:47Speaker 3: That's the one positive that you can say in every game.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And Billy Edwards, when he doesn't turn the football over,
- 1:52Speaker 2: is a competent, low tier game manager that doesn't give
- 1:56Speaker 2: you anything.
- 1:56Speaker 3: But he also doesn't put the ball in harm's way.
- 1:58Speaker 2: But he does put the ball in harm's way a lot. Regardless,
- 2:00Speaker 2: I'm salty because I don't like Bill Belichick coaching college football.
- 2:03Speaker 2: That's not the point here. The point is that, TJ,
- 2:06Speaker 2: you're not wrong.
- 2:07Speaker 3: This is a look-ahead spot.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Think about it like how a team like Georgia a
- 2:13Speaker 2: couple weeks ago when they played against Auburn. 99% of
- 2:16Speaker 2: the time, Georgia's going to win that football game. And
- 2:18Speaker 2: Georgia was up 14-0, and they're like, oh, well, we're
- 2:20Speaker 2: supposed to win because it's Auburn, and we always beat
- 2:22Speaker 2: them in the deep south's oldest rivalry. So we just
- 2:24Speaker 2: get into the bye, and we coast, and we're still undefeated.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And Auburn said, not today.
- 2:28Speaker 3: We're going to make you make mistakes.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And even when they did, you know, even when Georgia
- 2:32Speaker 2: shots up on the foot, Auburn capitalized. So knowing that
- 2:36Speaker 2: you have the Notre Dame game on the horizon, that
- 2:39Speaker 2: is the game to where I would say at this point,
- 2:41Speaker 2: if you win that one, you feel pretty confident that
- 2:44Speaker 2: you're going to go undefeated the rest of the year.
- 2:46Speaker 3: You're going to get the number one seed.
- 2:47Speaker 2: You're not going to have to worry about anything when
- 2:48Speaker 2: it comes to college football playoff. Isn't this a spot
- 2:52Speaker 2: to where maybe you're so focused in on what Notre
- 2:55Speaker 2: Dame is going to do against you that you allow
- 2:57Speaker 2: an early touchdown run to Demon June? Or you allow
- 3:01Speaker 2: a big time play to Jelani Thurman for a gain
- 3:03Speaker 2: of 40 because your secondary is not paying attention. And
- 3:06Speaker 2: now here we are going into halftime and you're leading,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but let's say you're leading 21 to 17 and UNC
- 3:12Speaker 2: gets the ball first. And you don't make the corrections
- 3:17Speaker 2: going into the third quarter.
- 3:19Speaker 3: And now they take a 24-21 lead.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And you still come back to win, but it's a
- 3:24Speaker 2: lot bigger of a dogfight than you expected because of
- 3:27Speaker 2: how much you were preparing for a game that is
- 3:29Speaker 2: two weeks away rather than the one that is a
- 3:31Speaker 2: week away. And for still, North Carolina's schedule, the way
- 3:34Speaker 2: that it pans on out, guys, UConn, probably a win,
- 3:37Speaker 2: but not a guaranteed.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Louisville, Virginia, NC State.
- 3:41Speaker 2: You don't need this one to get to bowl eligibility.
- 3:45Speaker 2: but you feel a lot better about winning this one.
- 3:47Speaker 2: You are definitely going to be bowl eligible. And now
- 3:49Speaker 2: you're flirting with maybe seven wins in year two of
- 3:51Speaker 2: the Bill Belichick era.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip of the power
- 3:54Speaker 1: two with Tom Hannafin and Cole Thompson here on the
- 3:56Speaker 1: college football addiction network. But first we made all of
- 3:59Speaker 1: these picks over on the live show. You can go
- 4:01Speaker 1: check that out to see all the picks, but I'll
- 4:03Speaker 1: tell you what right now, what I like Jaden ball.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Give me the more on his rushing total. I think
- 4:08Speaker 1: you can get over the 77.5. I think Florida will
- 4:10Speaker 1: need to establish the run for this game to be competitive.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I like Gunnar Stockton's passing touchdowns. Give me the more
- 4:16Speaker 1: on that 1.5. And then I love the pairing of
- 4:20Speaker 1: Jaden Ball's anytime touchdowns and Nate Frazier's anytime touchdowns. Give
- 4:23Speaker 1: me the more on both those pair, two of those together,
- 4:27Speaker 1: pair anything else you like in this college football slates, weekends,
- 4:30Speaker 1: upcoming lineups, and you've got a lineup set. Use our
- 4:33Speaker 1: code HMA, all new users who play a $ 5 lineup
- 4:35Speaker 1: and win their first $ 5 lineup, get 150 lineups instantly
- 4:40Speaker 1: over on the prize picks app. We appreciate them for
- 4:42Speaker 1: their support. Go check them out. That defensive line that
- 4:44Speaker 1: you mentioned. I tell you Miami's problems to me. Well,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you three. I'm gonna give you four.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you four Miami problems. Let's just pile on.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Now the Canes fans will agree with all of these
- 4:56Speaker 1: and never disagree with anything that I say. Um, but
- 5:00Speaker 1: number one is the penalties. I'd like to see that improved.
- 5:03Speaker 1: It's still too much. There are a hundred, I think
- 5:04Speaker 1: there are 120th out of 138, 139 teams. They know
- 5:08Speaker 1: they need to fix that secondary. Part of that is health.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Like you can't control the injuries, but secondary has to
- 5:14Speaker 1: get better. It's my biggest worry about them going to
- 5:16Speaker 1: South Bend next week. Um, number three is I think
- 5:19Speaker 1: they're a little Tony dependent. You look at what their
- 5:22Speaker 1: offense just looks like with him on and off the field. And,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and I get it. He, I, he's my vote for
- 5:27Speaker 1: the Heisman right now, right? Like I, Take advantage of
- 5:30Speaker 1: the guy you got. But they have other weapons, too.
- 5:32Speaker 1: And I'd like to see their offense look a little
- 5:34Speaker 1: bit more competent when he's off the field. Not that
- 5:37Speaker 1: he should be off the field a little bit, but
- 5:39Speaker 1: fluky things happen. He got banged up against Pitt, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: I didn't think they were great when he was off
- 5:44Speaker 1: the field. And number four is the offensive line, which
- 5:47Speaker 1: I think has improved. But Pitt got after Mensah quite
- 5:50Speaker 1: a bit. Florida State got after Mensah quite a bit.
- 5:53Speaker 1: you've not seen the same level of dominance in the
- 5:56Speaker 1: trenches that you saw the last season for Miami. So
- 6:01Speaker 1: that North Carolina defensive line, can they wreck the game
- 6:04Speaker 1: enough which they would have to, as good as they've
- 6:07Speaker 1: been called, they'd have to have still the game of
- 6:09Speaker 1: their season because you can wreck the game enough. And
- 6:12Speaker 1: then Malachi, Tony can just beat you in the fourth quarter, right?
- 6:15Speaker 1: Like they're, you know, it's, it's a very tall task
- 6:18Speaker 1: to think that they can actually win this game, but
- 6:20Speaker 1: can they get it to the second half? Can they
- 6:22Speaker 1: get into the fourth quarter in a weird, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: Halloween night type game in, uh, North Carolina possibly, but that,
- 6:31Speaker 1: that defensive line, can they go like Dylan Stewart level, uh,
- 6:36Speaker 1: of games, record game changer. Can they go Jared verse
- 6:39Speaker 1: level against Louisville in the ACC championship? Can't, can they
- 6:43Speaker 1: play that high up? And can Miami's offensive line respond
- 6:47Speaker 1: to that challenge? Can I trust Dawson to kind of scheme,
- 6:50Speaker 1: scheme things up? Miami does a great job. I saw
- 6:52Speaker 1: somebody called Tony, a screen merchant. And I'm like, okay,
- 6:56Speaker 1: that's fine. But when he goes 65 yards after catching
- 6:59Speaker 1: a screen, like so be it right. Throw him the
- 7:02Speaker 1: ball behind the line of scrimmage. And when you have
- 7:03Speaker 1: three guys that he makes look silly on his way
- 7:05Speaker 1: to the end zone, and he's looking back at him
- 7:07Speaker 1: as he goes into the end zone and then crushing
- 7:09Speaker 1: you with the Heisman pose after screen merchant, all you want, right?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Like whatever it takes, I, you know, it's, it's one
- 7:17Speaker 1: thing to, to, to call somebody a screen merchant. It's
- 7:20Speaker 1: another thing to watch what he does on a consistent basis.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So Yeah, that defensive line-offensive line matchup is, for the
- 7:26Speaker 1: issues that Miami has, that's the one that I'm watching
- 7:28Speaker 1: the most this weekend. Obviously, if they go out and
- 7:30Speaker 1: have another 10-penalty game, if they go out and Tony
- 7:33Speaker 1: gets banged up and they were too dependent on him,
- 7:35Speaker 1: there's a lot of different factors. But it's the offensive
- 7:37Speaker 1: line for Miami against the defensive line for North Carolina
- 7:40Speaker 1: to me. Tom? I've talked about this before.
- 7:43Speaker 4: We discussed this in terms of recapping Miami last week is...
- 7:50Speaker 4: they're still going to score on minimum five possessions a game.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And I don't think UNC does anything different with that.
- 7:57Speaker 4: The least that they scored all season was 33, and
- 7:58Speaker 4: that was at Wake Forest. They're putting up ungodly offensive numbers.
- 8:03Speaker 4: I have belief in what Fletcher and Mallory can do
- 8:06Speaker 4: running the football. If it is a situation where the
- 8:09Speaker 4: pass rush is getting to Mensah, and it is kind
- 8:11Speaker 4: of slowing things down and mucking things up, within the
- 8:13Speaker 4: pass game. But kind of the best recipe to negate
- 8:16Speaker 4: a pass rush is to run the football effectively. And
- 8:19Speaker 4: that is something Miami is capable of, to the points
- 8:22Speaker 4: that you've said. Is this the best offensive line they've had?
- 8:24Speaker 4: Not necessarily. Will this defensive line put up a fight?
- 8:27Speaker 1: For sure.
- 8:28Speaker 4: I think this is a bit of a stalemate in
- 8:29Speaker 4: the first half. I'd certainly look at team totals and
- 8:31Speaker 4: first half unders if you guys are on prize picks
- 8:33Speaker 4: regarding this game. But I think Miami's offense is inevitable.
- 8:39Speaker 4: So I'm going to take Miami in this one. I
- 8:41Speaker 4: think North Carolina puts up a fight in the first half.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I think Mensah has done a better job getting the
- 8:46Speaker 4: ball out quickly. And part of that is that screen
- 8:49Speaker 4: game that you talked about, that bubble screen game. Because, yeah, the, quote,
- 8:52Speaker 4: screen merchant thing, you just need to get him the
- 8:55Speaker 4: ball physically.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That's it.
- 8:57Speaker 4: And it's the same conversation we were having about Jeremiah
- 8:59Speaker 4: Smith's skill set versus Malachi Toney's skill set. You just
- 9:02Speaker 4: need to give him a little bit of a crease,
- 9:04Speaker 4: a little bit of a window, and Tony's gone. And
- 9:07Speaker 4: there's nobody in the country that can really keep up
- 9:09Speaker 4: with him. Even Bill Belichick himself was recently quoted saying, yeah,
- 9:12Speaker 4: even double teaming the guy doesn't really seem to do it.
- 9:15Speaker 4: So I don't think UNC is the personnel to slow
- 9:18Speaker 4: down Miami from a Malachi-Tony standpoint. And if Miami comes
- 9:23Speaker 4: into this really dedicated to running the football consistently, just
- 9:26Speaker 4: wearing down UNC, it won't be a blowout in the
- 9:30Speaker 4: first half, but just Give it time. I think Miami
- 9:32Speaker 4: salts this one away.
- 9:35Speaker 2: UNC ranks 48th, I believe, in scoring defense. They rank
- 9:40Speaker 2: 84th in total yards allowed.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I think they're top 50 in run defense. No, they're not.
- 9:47Speaker 2: They're number 91st in run defense and they're 84th in
- 9:50Speaker 2: pass defense. And you're going up against arguably one of
- 9:53Speaker 2: the best ground games in the ACC. The best passing
- 9:57Speaker 2: attack in the ACC. A quarterback that does not make
- 9:59Speaker 2: mental mistakes like other passers around there, a team that
- 10:02Speaker 2: knows how to be able to win with depth and
- 10:04Speaker 2: can utilize their offensive line to play with tempo. I mean, look,
- 10:09Speaker 2: the other problem with this whole conversation of even if
- 10:12Speaker 2: you have the game of your life from the defensive
- 10:15Speaker 2: side of North Carolina, the offense still has to show
- 10:18Speaker 2: on up. And even with it being a weaker defense
- 10:21Speaker 2: than we expected going into the year, I'm not saying
- 10:25Speaker 2: Billy Edwards is winning this football game. I refuse to
- 10:27Speaker 2: say that Billy Edwards is winning this football game. And
- 10:29Speaker 2: apparently I'm the biggest UNC hater, so I might as
- 10:31Speaker 2: well embrace the heel. I said all those nice things
- 10:34Speaker 2: about you and what you could do in the first
- 10:35Speaker 2: half to make this a four-quarter game before you watch
- 10:38Speaker 2: as Miami pulls away late.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I don't think you get off the bus. I don't
- 10:41Speaker 3: think that you even wake up.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I think that you are out partying and trick-or-treating and
- 10:45Speaker 2: you got Bill's girlfriend that's handing out candy and Snickers
- 10:47Speaker 2: bars and all that nice stuff. And that's what you're
- 10:49Speaker 2: focusing on because if you're not going to be playing
- 10:51Speaker 2: football on Saturday... That's what I say. I really want
- 10:54Speaker 2: to see JV and Mallory have a big game. I
- 10:56Speaker 2: want to see what's got names outside of Malachi, Tony. Because, again,
- 10:59Speaker 2: eventually you are going to need to call on a
- 11:01Speaker 2: Daylon Upshaw to make a big-time play or a Cooper
- 11:04Speaker 2: Barkey to make a big-time play.
- 11:05Speaker 3: And I think they both do.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And honestly, I think this is just another thing that
- 11:09Speaker 2: you check off the box of what makes Miami the
- 11:12Speaker 2: most dangerous team in the college football playoff. Because when
- 11:15Speaker 2: everyone's talking about a trap game, This is far from it.
- 11:18Speaker 3: This just is.
- 11:19Speaker 2: UNC lost to Syracuse. I'm not thinking that you're going
- 11:22Speaker 2: to now pull off an upset against the number one team.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I'm going to go big. I'm going to go like 48-10.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think that you are not getting anything going with
- 11:29Speaker 2: this UNC offense. And maybe for like a quarter, this
- 11:33Speaker 2: defense shows on up. It's like 7-0 after the first.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And then give me straight five scoring drives from Miami
- 11:40Speaker 2: to go.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Put this one away.
- 11:42Speaker 4: I'm going to take Miami 38-20, and I'm also going
- 11:46Speaker 4: to see if Price Picks will let me put down
- 11:47Speaker 4: a bet for Bill Belichick's Halloween costume, because I think
- 11:50Speaker 4: he's going to go as Robert Paulson from Fight Club.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I think it'll work out. Yeah, I like him to
- 11:59Speaker 1: cover the 14.5. I do think it's potentially a little
- 12:03Speaker 1: lower scoring. Like, maybe Miami doesn't hit 40 this time. So, yeah, 35-17.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think they can get a couple of touchdowns off
- 12:15Speaker 1: against this defense. Some of it could come late. This
- 12:18Speaker 1: could be a situation. Weren't they up like 31-3 or
- 12:20Speaker 1: 31-10 or something against Pitt? This could be a situation
- 12:23Speaker 1: where they get up big and then North Carolina scores
- 12:27Speaker 1: 10 points in the second half to make it look
- 12:29Speaker 1: a little more respectable. I think they roll. There's a
- 12:34Speaker 1: path for North Carolina to keep this a game. There's
- 12:36Speaker 1: no weather. I think that it's just not enough. Like
- 12:42Speaker 1: Miami is just way too talented. I thought they played
- 12:45Speaker 1: a B type of game against Pittsburgh and they scored 50.
- 12:49Speaker 1: So they, they're just too good. Sorry, North Carolina. I
- 12:53Speaker 1: think Miami is going to roll you, but we'll see.
