Transcript
- 0:00Announcer: Welcome to a special edition of Get the Hell Out of Your Life with Ron Myers.
- 0:03Announcer: What you believe about God and what you believe about yourself shapes the way you live.
- 0:08Announcer: But are your beliefs moving you forward or holding you back?
- 0:11Announcer: Today, Ron will encourage you to trust what God says about you, that you are loved, forgiven, accepted, and complete in Christ.
- 0:18Announcer: From that secure identity, you can take your next step with faith, not fear or striving.
- 0:23Announcer: Here's Ron with today's topic: belief.
- 0:27Ron Meyers: Did you know your life will eventually move in the direction of your strongest beliefs?
- 0:31Ron Meyers: So today I want to share one of my signature beliefs.
- 0:36Ron Meyers: When you believe what God wants you to believe, you are destined for success.
- 0:40Ron Meyers: Let's open up the show with this question.
- 0:42Ron Meyers: What are you believing?
- 0:45Ron Meyers: Belief is invisible.
- 0:46Ron Meyers: You cannot touch it.
- 0:47Ron Meyers: You cannot put it on a scale.
- 0:49Ron Meyers: You cannot walk into Walmart and buy a box of it.
- 0:52Ron Meyers: But you can recognize it when somebody has it.
- 0:55Ron Meyers: You hear it in the way they talk about tomorrow.
- 0:58Ron Meyers: You see it in how they respond when the phone rings with bad news, when business struggles, when somebody else tells them no, or when their plans fall apart.
- 1:09Ron Meyers: After all these years, one of my greatest life lessons is this what you believe about yourself, about God, and about your situation will influence what you do next.
- 1:22Ron Meyers: Two people can face the same problem.
- 1:25Ron Meyers: One says, I'm finished.
- 1:27Ron Meyers: The other says, This is hard, but I will find my next step.
- 1:32Ron Meyers: Same problem, different belief.
- 1:34Ron Meyers: Different response, different possibilities.
- 1:37Ron Meyers: You see, belief shapes behavior.
- 1:40Ron Meyers: Behavior creates movement.
- 1:42Ron Meyers: Movement produces experience.
- 1:45Ron Meyers: Experience creates evidence, and evidence strengthens belief.
- 1:51Ron Meyers: That is the road we are going to travel today.
- 1:55Ron Meyers: I am not telling you to pretend your problems are not real.
- 1:59Ron Meyers: And I am certainly not saying that if you think enough happy thoughts, the universe is obligated to give you everything you want.
- 2:08Ron Meyers: No, my confidence is not in the universe.
- 2:12Ron Meyers: My confidence is in the one who created it.
- 2:16Ron Meyers: I call that biblical optimism.
- 2:20Ron Meyers: Biblical optimism says that even when my life is not working according to my plan, God has not stopped working.
- 2:30Ron Meyers: Romans 8 28 tells us that God works all things together for good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
- 2:40Ron Meyers: It does not say everything that happens is good.
- 2:45Ron Meyers: I have lived long enough, and I'm sure you have too to know better than that.
- 2:50Ron Meyers: Some things hurt, and some things are unfair, and some things will devastate you.
- 2:57Ron Meyers: And some things make absolutely no sense while you are walking through them.
- 3:02Ron Meyers: But please hear me.
- 3:03Ron Meyers: Do not confuse, I cannot see what God is doing with God is not doing anything.
- 3:10Ron Meyers: Those are two entirely different beliefs.
- 3:13Ron Meyers: Faith does not deny the pain.
- 3:16Ron Meyers: Faith refuses to let the pain have the final word.
- 3:21Ron Meyers: That brings me to a story I have never forgotten.
- 3:24Ron Meyers: More than 20 years ago, while I was managing a Christian radio station, I kept a Bible on my desk called the Positive Thinking Bible, inspired by the teaching of Norman Vincent Peel.
- 3:37Ron Meyers: I loved that Bible.
- 3:40Ron Meyers: One day a preacher walked into my office, saw it sitting on my desk, and said, You need to throw that away.
- 3:46Ron Meyers: And I asked him why.
- 3:48Ron Meyers: He said, That is false teaching.
- 3:50Ron Meyers: And I remember sitting there thinking, wait a minute, the Bible is full of hope.
- 3:56Ron Meyers: When we follow what Jesus teaches, that sounds pretty positive to me.
- 4:00Ron Meyers: But there was a problem.
- 4:02Ron Meyers: I was a relatively new believer, and he was the preacher.
- 4:06Ron Meyers: His words got inside my head, and I began wondering, wow, what if he's right?
- 4:11Ron Meyers: What if I am missing God?
- 4:12Ron Meyers: What if I'm doing something wrong?
- 4:14Ron Meyers: I thought about it for days and then I did something I regret.
- 4:18Ron Meyers: I got scared and I threw that Bible away.
- 4:21Ron Meyers: More than 20 years later, my experiences and more importantly, my walk with Jesus have taught me something.
- 4:27Ron Meyers: I do not have to be afraid every time another Christian disagrees with me.
- 4:32Ron Meyers: I can listen, I can pray, I can open scripture, I can seek wise counsel, I can talk with Jesus, and I can use the discernment God gave me.
- 4:41Ron Meyers: Sometimes I can simply say, I appreciate your opinion, but we disagree.
- 4:47Ron Meyers: Not every disagreement has to become a battle.
- 4:50Ron Meyers: Today, when I look back, I realize that preacher had no earthly idea what God was doing.
- 4:56Ron Meyers: And frankly, neither did I.
- 4:58Ron Meyers: And the good news, I got a new copy of that Bible in the mail just a few days ago, and I love it.
- 5:05Ron Meyers: I tell you that story in this message about belief because you've got to be careful about allowing somebody else's fear to become your belief.
- 5:14Ron Meyers: People will tell you that you cannot do that.
- 5:16Ron Meyers: They may even say you are too ambitious, too optimistic, too different, too old, too young, too inexperienced.
- 5:24Ron Meyers: But they do not know about the conversations you have had with Jesus.
- 5:28Ron Meyers: They do not know what he has been placing in your heart, and they do not know where he may be taking you.
- 5:35Ron Meyers: Now don't misunderstand me.
- 5:36Ron Meyers: We all need wise people in our lives.
- 5:39Ron Meyers: Stay teachable, know your Bible, listen to people who love you enough to challenge you.
- 5:43Ron Meyers: But ultimately, your relationship with Jesus cannot be outsourced.
- 5:49Ron Meyers: Your journey is between you and Jesus.
- 5:51Ron Meyers: After all these years of following Jesus, I have discovered that if you want to talk about some positive talk, talk about grace.
- 5:59Ron Meyers: Grace says your worst day does not get the final word.
- 6:03Ron Meyers: Grace says your past does not have to determine your future.
- 6:08Ron Meyers: Grace says you can fall and get back up.
- 6:12Ron Meyers: Grace says you are forgiven.
- 6:14Ron Meyers: Grace says God loves you before you get everything figured out.
- 6:20Ron Meyers: Grace says God can take broken pieces and create something beautiful.
- 6:27Ron Meyers: And Romans 8, verse 1 says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
- 6:35Ron Meyers: That truth alone puts concrete into your belief system.
- 6:40Ron Meyers: When you know that you are loved, forgiven, and secure in Jesus, you stop spending your life wondering whether one mistake has disqualified you.
- 6:53Ron Meyers: You become free to learn to grow and pursue what God has placed in your heart.
- 7:00Ron Meyers: Positive believing rooted in Jesus is not pretending everything will happen exactly the way Ron wants it.
- 7:08Ron Meyers: Good grief.
- 7:10Ron Meyers: I'm sure glad that's not true because I sure have had some boneheaded ideas.
- 7:15Ron Meyers: I have failed many times, but failure taught me to learn, adjust, and keep plowing.
- 7:21Ron Meyers: Somewhere, sometime and someday, the lesson begins to make sense.
- 7:27Ron Meyers: I believe with my whole heart that this is the greatest time to be a believer.
- 7:33Ron Meyers: Not because the world is perfect, but because God is still moving through ordinary people who are willing to say, Jesus, here I am, use me.
- 7:44Ron Meyers: Now let us make belief practical.
- 7:47Ron Meyers: Each one of us has a story playing inside our head.
- 7:51Ron Meyers: People like me never get ahead.
- 7:53Ron Meyers: I'm too old, I'm too young, I'm not qualified.
- 7:55Ron Meyers: Oh, nothing works for me.
- 7:57Ron Meyers: But then you've got to ask yourself, where did those stories come from?
- 8:00Ron Meyers: Maybe a teacher, a parent, a boss, somebody who hurt you or a failure from years ago.
- 8:06Ron Meyers: You repeated the story so many times that it started sounding like the truth.
- 8:10Ron Meyers: But the voice you hear most often is usually your own.
- 8:14Ron Meyers: If you spend all day telling yourself why you cannot do something, don't be surprised when you stop trying.
- 8:21Ron Meyers: Romans 12 2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
- 8:27Ron Meyers: Maybe somebody listening today needs to fire the narrator who has been telling your story.
- 8:33Ron Meyers: Maybe it is time for a rewrite.
- 8:36Ron Meyers: Instead of saying, nothing ever works for me, say, I do not understand this yet, but God isn't finished.
- 8:45Ron Meyers: Instead of saying, I am a failure, say that attempt did not work.
- 8:50Ron Meyers: What can I learn from it?
- 8:52Ron Meyers: Instead of saying, Well, it's too late, Ron, say, Jesus, what can we do with the time I have today?
- 9:01Ron Meyers: Changing your words is not magic.
- 9:03Ron Meyers: It changes what you notice, what you attempt, and how quickly you get back up.
- 9:09Ron Meyers: The first three years of Ron Myers productions were hard.
- 9:14Ron Meyers: I was ready to quit, throw in the towel, and head to Atlanta for job opportunities.
- 9:21Ron Meyers: But something inside me kept saying, do not quit, keep learning.
- 9:27Ron Meyers: Then I had an idea.
- 9:28Ron Meyers: Instead of wearing myself out trying to produce over 15 events a year, I would slow down and concentrate on three major events each year.
- 9:40Ron Meyers: And that strategy, it changed everything.
- 9:43Ron Meyers: I had more energy, the events improved, the business started making money, but that idea came after many mistakes.
- 9:52Ron Meyers: I was desperate enough to pray, Lord, what do you want me to do?
- 9:57Ron Meyers: I'm sick and tired of being tired.
- 10:00Ron Meyers: I need help.
- 10:01Ron Meyers: And then the help came, not as a suitcase of money falling from heaven, but as an idea and the courage to act upon it.
- 10:12Ron Meyers: That experience taught me something important.
- 10:15Ron Meyers: Belief does not always mean holding tighter to the same plan.
- 10:21Ron Meyers: Sometimes belief means trusting God enough to adjust the strategy without abandoning the purpose.
- 10:29Ron Meyers: You are here on purpose for a purpose, and you are not a copy.
- 10:33Ron Meyers: You are an original.
- 10:35Ron Meyers: Look at your fingerprint.
- 10:37Ron Meyers: How many people have your fingerprint?
- 10:39Ron Meyers: None.
- 10:40Ron Meyers: You are a one of a kind.
- 10:42Ron Meyers: You are one piece of God's enormous puzzle.
- 10:46Ron Meyers: If you refuse to become who God created you to be, the picture is missing something only you can bring.
- 10:54Ron Meyers: Your new story can begin here.
- 10:57Ron Meyers: God has a plan for me, and I am ready to discover it.
- 11:01Ron Meyers: I am destined for success with Jesus at my side.
- 11:06Ron Meyers: Not success as the world defines it.
- 11:09Ron Meyers: Success with God means becoming who He created you to be, using what He gave you, serving the people He puts in front of you, and faithfully taking the next step.
- 11:24Ron Meyers: Somebody may be thinking, Ron, you have to be realistic.
- 11:28Ron Meyers: Sometimes we do.
- 11:29Ron Meyers: If you have $5 in the bank, you don't write a check for $5,000 and call it faith.
- 11:34Ron Meyers: That is not faith.
- 11:35Ron Meyers: That is going to create an interesting conversation with your banker.
- 11:39Ron Meyers: But sometimes when people tell you to be realistic, what they mean is do not expect too much.
- 11:44Ron Meyers: Be careful with that.
- 11:46Ron Meyers: Realism and resignation are not the same thing.
- 11:50Ron Meyers: Realism says this is difficult.
- 11:53Ron Meyers: Resignation says, therefore, it is impossible.
- 11:56Ron Meyers: Realism says, I do not know.
- 11:59Ron Meyers: Belief says, hey, let's find out.
- 12:02Ron Meyers: Realism says there's a mountain.
- 12:04Ron Meyers: Belief says, what is the first step of climbing that mountain?
- 12:08Ron Meyers: That is disciplined optimism.
- 12:11Ron Meyers: It is not denying the darkness.
- 12:14Ron Meyers: It is lighting a candle anyway.
- 12:16Ron Meyers: It is not pretending you are not afraid.
- 12:19Ron Meyers: It is refusing to let fear make your decisions.
- 12:22Ron Meyers: It is not saying everything is wonderful.
- 12:24Ron Meyers: Some days are rotten.
- 12:26Ron Meyers: I've had days when I didn't want to go to work or even leave the house.
- 12:29Ron Meyers: But when I felt down for the count, I knew the bell had rung and Jesus was saying, Ron, get up off the mat, buddy.
- 12:37Ron Meyers: We are not finished.
- 12:39Ron Meyers: And here's where belief becomes movement.
- 12:43Ron Meyers: Action creates evidence.
- 12:46Ron Meyers: You do not have to feel confident before you move.
- 12:50Ron Meyers: We tell ourselves, when I feel confident, I will start.
- 12:54Ron Meyers: When I know enough, I will start.
- 12:56Ron Meyers: When I get enough money, I will start.
- 12:58Ron Meyers: When I am no longer afraid, I will start.
- 13:01Ron Meyers: And 10 years later, we are still standing there waiting.
- 13:06Ron Meyers: My experiences have taught me that readiness is often found on the road, not before you get on it.
- 13:14Ron Meyers: Picture yourself on a road covered in fog.
- 13:17Ron Meyers: You can only see 20 feet ahead.
- 13:19Ron Meyers: You can stand there demanding that God remove all the fog, or you can walk the 20 feet you can see.
- 13:27Ron Meyers: And when you get there, you can usually see the next 20 feet.
- 13:31Ron Meyers: That is how Jesus has led me many times.
- 13:34Ron Meyers: He rarely hands me the entire blueprint.
- 13:38Ron Meyers: Usually he gives me enough light for the next step.
- 13:42Ron Meyers: Then I have to decide: do I trust him enough to take it?
- 13:46Ron Meyers: To make that phone call, send the email, fill out the application, write the first page, start the plan, have the conversation, apologize, forgive, or try again?
- 13:54Ron Meyers: Friend, take the step.
- 13:56Ron Meyers: Action gives you something.
- 13:58Ron Meyers: Sitting still never will.
- 14:00Ron Meyers: New information.
- 14:02Ron Meyers: Maybe it works, maybe it does not.
- 14:05Ron Meyers: Either way, you have learned something.
- 14:07Ron Meyers: You can adjust, you can change direction, you can keep moving.
- 14:12Ron Meyers: You cannot steer a parked car.
- 14:15Ron Meyers: And some of you have decided a door's locked when you have not even turned the handle.
- 14:20Ron Meyers: You assume they will not hire you.
- 14:23Ron Meyers: Nobody will listen.
- 14:24Ron Meyers: The idea will not work.
- 14:25Ron Meyers: You are not qualified.
- 14:27Ron Meyers: Ah, it's too late.
- 14:28Ron Meyers: Do not allow assumption to become a prison.
- 14:33Ron Meyers: Turn the handle, knock, ask, try, believe, explore.
- 14:36Ron Meyers: And if that door does not open, well, you try another one.
- 14:39Ron Meyers: One of my life lessons is that rejection is not always rejection.
- 14:44Ron Meyers: Sometimes it is redirection.
- 14:46Ron Meyers: A closed door does not always mean stop.
- 14:50Ron Meyers: Sometimes Jesus is saying, not this one, keep moving.
- 14:54Ron Meyers: Instead of immediately asking, why is this happening to me?
- 14:58Ron Meyers: Try asking, Jesus, how could you use this?
- 15:02Ron Meyers: What can this teach me, Jesus?
- 15:04Ron Meyers: What can this develop in me?
- 15:07Ron Meyers: Where am I being redirected, Jesus?
- 15:11Ron Meyers: And what if this is not the end of my story?
- 15:14Ron Meyers: Friends, I've looked back all word over my life and seen situations that made no sense while I was living them.
- 15:21Ron Meyers: Later, I saw the connections, the people, the timing, the lessons, the preparation, and unexpected opportunities.
- 15:30Ron Meyers: And I find myself wondering, could some of this have been rigged, not rigged against me, rigged for God's purpose?
- 15:40Ron Meyers: I could not see it then, but God could.
- 15:43Ron Meyers: There is another reason your belief matters.
- 15:53Ron Meyers: Somebody is watching you.
- 15:56Ron Meyers: Your children, grandchildren, employees, coworkers, spouse, friends, they may be quietly wondering, can somebody like me make it?
- 16:05Ron Meyers: Maybe God wants your life to become part of their answer.
- 16:09Ron Meyers: Leadership does not always happen behind a podium.
- 16:14Ron Meyers: Sometimes leadership is somebody watching how you respond when life does not go your way.
- 16:20Ron Meyers: They watch you lose and get back up.
- 16:22Ron Meyers: They watch you face disappointment and you keep believing.
- 16:26Ron Meyers: They watch you make a mistake and you own it.
- 16:30Ron Meyers: They watch you trust Jesus when you do not understand what he is doing.
- 16:35Ron Meyers: One day, somebody may say, I watched you.
- 16:40Ron Meyers: I saw what you went through.
- 16:42Ron Meyers: I saw that you did not quit, and it made me believe that maybe I could keep going also.
- 16:49Ron Meyers: My friends, that is success.
- 16:51Ron Meyers: That is influence, that is purpose.
- 16:53Ron Meyers: You became the evidence somebody else needed.
- 16:57Ron Meyers: That's why I chased stories on get the hell out of your life.
- 17:02Ron Meyers: I have over 300 stories, and they are evidence that people who were down for the count rose again, and now God is using them.
- 17:12Ron Meyers: Let's bring this home.
- 17:13Ron Meyers: Belief shapes behavior.
- 17:16Ron Meyers: Behavior creates movement.
- 17:18Ron Meyers: Movement produces experience.
- 17:21Ron Meyers: Experience creates evidence.
- 17:24Ron Meyers: Evidence strengthens belief.
- 17:27Ron Meyers: When you walk with Jesus long enough, something begins developing inside of you.
- 17:33Ron Meyers: Not arrogance, not wishful thinking, but trust and faith.
- 17:39Ron Meyers: You can say, God has been faithful before, so I can trust him with what's next.
- 17:45Ron Meyers: Or you can say, I do not know what tomorrow holds, but I know who I am talking to today.
- 17:52Ron Meyers: I don't know where this road leads, but I know who I am following.
- 17:57Ron Meyers: I don't know how this problem gets solved, but I will take the next step.
- 18:02Ron Meyers: I cannot see everything God is doing in my life, but I will keep believing and having faith while he does it.
- 18:10Ron Meyers: Here's your next step for this week.
- 18:12Ron Meyers: Identify one belief that is holding you back.
- 18:15Ron Meyers: Just one.
- 18:15Ron Meyers: Write it down.
- 18:16Ron Meyers: Maybe it's I'm too old, I'm not good enough, I've I have failed many times, nobody will give me an opportunity.
- 18:23Ron Meyers: Underneath that statement, write this question.
- 18:26Ron Meyers: What does God say?
- 18:28Ron Meyers: And then find God's truth that answers the lie.
- 18:31Ron Meyers: And then have a conversation with Jesus about it.
- 18:34Ron Meyers: Jesus, this is what I am believing.
- 18:37Ron Meyers: Is it true?
- 18:38Ron Meyers: What do you say about me?
- 18:39Ron Meyers: What do you want me to do next?
- 18:42Ron Meyers: Then ask yourself, if I truly believed God, what would I do next?
- 18:49Ron Meyers: Not next year, not someday, but next.
- 18:53Ron Meyers: One call, one conversation, one decision, one step, then take it.
- 18:58Ron Meyers: Do not wait until you are fearless.
- 19:00Ron Meyers: Do not wait until you are certain.
- 19:02Ron Meyers: We walk by faith, not by sight.
- 19:05Ron Meyers: Let's take a break.
- 19:07Ron Meyers: I will be back in a few minutes to close out today's show.

- 20:25Andrew Farley: Can a Christian stop believing and thereby forfeit their salvation?
- 20:30Andrew Farley: The short answer to that is no.
- 20:33Andrew Farley: We can't, and here's why.
- 20:34Andrew Farley: Salvation is more than getting your sins forgiven.
- 20:37Andrew Farley: It's more than a ticket to heaven.
- 20:39Andrew Farley: God is more than a banker canceling your debt.
- 20:42Andrew Farley: He's more than a travel agent booking you for a new destination.
- 20:46Andrew Farley: He has done something radical and powerful within you at the point of salvation.
- 20:52Andrew Farley: What did he do?
- 20:53Andrew Farley: Well, you were crucified, buried, and raised.
- 20:56Andrew Farley: You became a child of God with a new heart, a new spirit, and God's spirit living in you.
- 21:02Andrew Farley: So are you going to wake up tomorrow and potentially just stop believing?
- 21:06Andrew Farley: No, you're a believer by nature now.
- 21:09Andrew Farley: In fact, Ephesians 6, verse 24 says, you have an undying love for Jesus Christ.
- 21:16Andrew Farley: Can you believe that?
- 21:17Andrew Farley: That tomorrow and next week and next year you will never stop loving Jesus.
- 21:22Andrew Farley: You have an undying love for him because he put it there.
- 21:26Andrew Farley: So I've heard it just as you have.
- 21:29Andrew Farley: Oh, God will never leave you, but what if you leave him?
- 21:32Andrew Farley: The truth is you won't.
- 21:34Andrew Farley: If you're truly born of God, born of his spirit, then you have an incorruptible and undying love within you.
- 21:42Andrew Farley: And that's a beautiful thing.
- 21:43Andrew Farley: God deposited his love, he poured out his love in your heart by faith, so that you would be secure forever and never, ever stop loving him.
- 21:55Andrew Farley: That's the truth.
- 21:56Andrew Farley: And when we realize this, it changes the way we We look at God, but it also changes the way we feel about ourselves, recognizing we are in something that is unshakable and unbreakable.
- 22:10Andrew Farley: I mean, sure, there are people that abandon church.
- 22:14Andrew Farley: There are people that abandon a congregation, they're wounded, they're harmed, maybe even abused by a religious group, and they walk away from that congregation.
- 22:24Andrew Farley: But you know what?
- 22:26Andrew Farley: Even though they walk away from a group of people, they never walk away from Jesus because wherever they go, Christ lives in them forever.
- 22:35Andrew Farley: He says, I'll never leave you, I'll never forsake you.
- 22:39Andrew Farley: And now we can add to that simple truth, Ephesians 6.24.
- 22:44Andrew Farley: You will never stop loving Jesus.
- 22:58Bumper Music: You don't like where your head will be a rage.
- 23:01Bumper Music: Get the hell out of your life.
- 23:13Bumper Music: Get the hell out of your life.
- 23:19Ron Meyers: As we wrap up today's show, I want to remind you, my friend, your life is not shaped only by what happens to you.
- 23:26Ron Meyers: It is also shaped by what you choose to believe about what happens to you.
- 23:31Ron Meyers: If life has taught me anything, it is this.
- 23:34Ron Meyers: Do not let a temporary circumstance become a permanent belief.
- 23:39Ron Meyers: Do not let yesterday right tomorrow.
- 23:43Ron Meyers: Do not let somebody else's opinion become your identity.
- 23:48Ron Meyers: Do not let fear convince you a door's locked when you haven't even tried the handle.
- 23:54Ron Meyers: And do not confuse God's silence with God's absence.
- 23:59Ron Meyers: He is still there.
- 24:01Ron Meyers: In your story, it isn't finished.
- 24:03Ron Meyers: There are still doors you haven't knocked on, ideas you have not tried, people you have not even met, lessons you have not learned, lives you have not touched, and assignments you have not discovered.
- 24:17Ron Meyers: So believe.
- 24:19Ron Meyers: Move, learn, adjust, and believe again.
- 24:23Ron Meyers: And before I go, let me return to where we started.
- 24:27Ron Meyers: Have your conversations with Jesus.
- 24:29Ron Meyers: Make it a daily habit, especially in the morning.
- 24:33Ron Meyers: Before you pick up the phone, before you check the news, and before social media tells you what you're supposed to be angry about.
