- 3:21Speaker 2: Good morning, Angie, Welcome to the show, and happy July third,
- 3:24Speaker 2: Happy two fifty.
- 3:26Speaker 7: Same back to you, and I'm happy to be here.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And I have got Amy with us. You've met You've
- 3:31Speaker 2: met Amy via the radio in the past. She's with
- 3:33Speaker 2: us again today.
- 3:35Speaker 7: Hey, gets familiar with her voice.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Because you must go to target. Is that what you're saying? Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 2: because if you go to Target, that's the voice you hear.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I guess I've said that. That's still a thing, right Amy.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I think so.
- 3:47Speaker 6: I'm turned off in a lot of locations, but yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 6: I'm still there in upstate New York. I talked to
- 3:52Speaker 6: a guy the other day and he's like, yeah, no,
- 3:53Speaker 6: you're there. You're reminding me about your receipt there you
- 3:56Speaker 6: got my.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Receipt there you go, all right, Angie joins the seat
- 4:00Speaker 4: week with our adopt Me Please Pet of the Week
- 4:02Speaker 4: and we'll get right to it. As always, I get
- 4:04Speaker 4: the picture posted on Dave alland Radio and Facebook and
- 4:06Speaker 4: the WCHS Network Facebook page as well as at Dave
- 4:09Speaker 4: A seventy i X tell us about Batman.
- 4:13Speaker 7: So Batman originally came to Kseha after he was originally
- 4:19Speaker 7: owned by someone. She fell on hard times with her
- 4:21Speaker 7: health and could no longer take care of him, so
- 4:24Speaker 7: that's how he ended up with us. He's about a
- 4:26Speaker 7: year to two years old. He's great with other dogs,
- 4:30Speaker 7: loves to play with other dogs, great with kids, housebroken
- 4:33Speaker 7: and create trained, and we are unsure how he does
- 4:36Speaker 7: with cats. The owner was also unsure, but you know,
- 4:39Speaker 7: as always, we can provide info on how they introduce
- 4:41Speaker 7: him to cats if you're interested.
- 4:44Speaker 4: How exactly does that work if you're trying to if
- 4:46Speaker 4: you don't know, I mean, obviously, don't just put a.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Cat in front of him.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I mean, I mean I wouldn't think, I mean, he
- 4:50Speaker 4: wouldn't throw it in front of him anyway.
- 4:51Speaker 2: But how exactly does it work when you're trying to
- 4:53Speaker 2: find out? Because I'm a cat person. I haven't had
- 4:56Speaker 2: a dog in several years, So how exactly is the
- 4:59Speaker 2: best way to go about that?
- 5:02Speaker 7: We always recommend taking things very very slow. So for example,
- 5:07Speaker 7: keeping either the dog or the cat in a room
- 5:10Speaker 7: opposite from where the other animal is living, letting them
- 5:14Speaker 7: smell each other through the doorways. Uh, you know, doing
- 5:17Speaker 7: that for a couple of days, letting them get familiar
- 5:19Speaker 7: with each other since, and then once again taking things
- 5:22Speaker 7: very slow and cautiously. So on leash intros in the home.
- 5:26Speaker 7: That way, if you know, you notice this dog is
- 5:29Speaker 7: trying to go after the cat, you know you have
- 5:30Speaker 7: a way to keep the cat safe. But slow and
- 5:34Speaker 7: steady wins the race. When introducing dogs who are unfamiliar
- 5:38Speaker 7: with two in home pets, well.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And I would say, I mean that's actually true of
- 5:42Speaker 2: cats too. I mean that's the way when we've took
- 5:44Speaker 2: in our latest stray, which has been been about a
- 5:47Speaker 2: year and a half ago, that's the same thing we did.
- 5:49Speaker 4: You know, you put them, put them in a room,
- 5:50Speaker 4: shut the door, and let them kind of smell each
- 5:52Speaker 4: other under the door. Yeah, what kind of dog are
- 5:55Speaker 4: we talking about here?
- 5:55Speaker 8: With batman Y?
- 5:56Speaker 7: I mean his owner said that he was a lab
- 5:59Speaker 7: and it will mix.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Okay. Is that is that a common mix?
- 6:05Speaker 7: Yeah? I would say that that's pretty common throughout shelters
- 6:08Speaker 7: across the nation and not just unique to West Virginia,
- 6:11Speaker 7: but I mean everywhere shelters are full with that mixed breed.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I want to talk about the heat.
- 6:17Speaker 4: First of all, don't be an uncarrying idiot and leave
- 6:21Speaker 4: your pets outside for long periods of time, and certainly
- 6:25Speaker 4: not in a car, right correct.
- 6:28Speaker 7: Do not leave your pets in the car if they
- 6:31Speaker 7: have outdoor sheds or pins or however you're keeping them.
- 6:35Speaker 7: Also try to avoid leaving them out there. Just yesterday,
- 6:38Speaker 7: we did have a cat come in suffering some heat
- 6:41Speaker 7: stroke because he was left in a in a home
- 6:44Speaker 7: with no air conditioning. He is okay, he you know,
- 6:47Speaker 7: our medical team was able to stabilize him yesterday. But
- 6:51Speaker 7: that's just the very real reality that we're living in
- 6:55Speaker 7: that it can happen to your pets in your area.
- 6:59Speaker 6: Go ahead, Amy, and don't forget the excuse me, and
- 7:01Speaker 6: don't forget the walking to their little pause.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I've got a text about that. Actually, we have a
- 7:06Speaker 2: text here that says, yesterday I saw so many dogs
- 7:08Speaker 2: being walked before the concert. So can I please just
- 7:10Speaker 2: ask everyone to remember one thing. If the asphalt is
- 7:13Speaker 2: too hot for you to walk on barefoot, and just
- 7:16Speaker 2: imagine how hot, painful and truly dangerous it is on
- 7:18Speaker 2: their pawpads, Please cover their pawpads before you go out.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And that was from a texture.
- 7:23Speaker 6: So we'll walk in the evening or something.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly what.
- 7:26Speaker 7: Yeah, We've had two dogs come in with burns to
- 7:30Speaker 7: their pawpads as well, so this heat is very real.
- 7:32Speaker 7: It's very dangerous two pets, So keep that in mind
- 7:35Speaker 7: when you are taking care of yours.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Right, So what are the symptoms? I mean you said,
- 7:40Speaker 2: is it like with humans? Are the symptoms pretty much
- 7:43Speaker 2: the same if they're suffering from heatstroke? I mean, how
- 7:45Speaker 2: does I know? You're not a doctor, but obviously you
- 7:47Speaker 2: deal with these things a lot. What are the symptoms
- 7:49Speaker 2: in animals? Dogs and cats?
- 7:51Speaker 7: So you're going to be looking for excessive panting, and
- 7:54Speaker 7: of course some panting is normal in dogs and in cats,
- 7:58Speaker 7: but excessive panting to where you know they can't really breathe.
- 8:01Speaker 7: You're going to be looking for a lot of drooling,
- 8:04Speaker 7: stupor its heat strokes can also lead to seizures, So
- 8:08Speaker 7: you're going to be looking for those types of symptoms
- 8:11Speaker 7: of an animal that looks really confused and doesn't that
- 8:13Speaker 7: where it's that possibly collapsing with a lot of drool,
- 8:17Speaker 7: heavy panting, and then once again the most dangerous is
- 8:22Speaker 7: leading into seizures. So those are all the symptoms of
- 8:25Speaker 7: heat stroke. It's kind of similar to what you would
- 8:28Speaker 7: see in a human. But yeah, definitely if you notice
- 8:31Speaker 7: those symptoms in your pet or a straight animal, rush
- 8:34Speaker 7: them to an emergency clinic as soon as possible.
- 8:36Speaker 2: And I didn't want to bring this up too with
- 8:38Speaker 2: the fireworks going off this weekend. You know, those can
- 8:41Speaker 2: be brutal on pets. Sometimes My cats couldn't care less.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I mean really they don't care. But it's not the
- 8:46Speaker 2: case with all pets, cats, dogs and others. What can
- 8:50Speaker 2: owners do to maybe alleviate some of that stress.
- 8:54Speaker 7: So preparation starts now. It actually started about a week
- 8:57Speaker 7: ago for your pets and the fourth of July. But
- 9:01Speaker 7: if you are just now getting around to it and
- 9:06Speaker 7: your vet's office is closed, you're not able to purchase,
- 9:08Speaker 7: you know, prescription medicine or what have you. Some easy
- 9:11Speaker 7: tips are to leave your pets at home. Don't let
- 9:14Speaker 7: them come to the Fourth of July festivities. Without fail,
- 9:18Speaker 7: Almost every year regatta there is some pet that goes
- 9:21Speaker 7: missing that you know joined in the festivities and accidentally
- 9:24Speaker 7: got away away from their owner. So leave your pets
- 9:28Speaker 7: at home. If you are planning on bringing your pets
- 9:31Speaker 7: and they must come with you, make sure that their
- 9:33Speaker 7: microchip information is up to date. Make sure they have
- 9:36Speaker 7: a tag with all of your information on it. If
- 9:38Speaker 7: you cannot get a microchip or a tag on short notice,
- 9:42Speaker 7: you can write your info down on their collar with
- 9:44Speaker 7: a sharpie or you know, some sort of tags. So
- 9:48Speaker 7: just making sure that all of your contact info is
- 9:51Speaker 7: up today and or leaving your pets at home is
- 9:53Speaker 7: going to be the best policy to make sure that
- 9:55Speaker 7: they stay with you well.
- 9:56Speaker 4: And sometimes though, we hear stories of pets in the
- 9:59Speaker 4: neighborhoods that get frightened. If you know a dog that
- 10:02Speaker 4: you normally let go outside to do his business or whatever,
- 10:05Speaker 4: here's those fireworks and just takes off from their home,
- 10:07Speaker 4: their home that they've lived in for years.
- 10:08Speaker 2: That's not uncommon. I know you folks here, that's those
- 10:10Speaker 2: stories all the time.
- 10:11Speaker 7: Angie absolutely as any type of fireworks situation, because I
- 10:16Speaker 7: know a lot of local neighborhoods and communities will also
- 10:19Speaker 7: let off fireworks. Just keep in mind your pet does
- 10:23Speaker 7: not understand what's happening. They for them, the sky is
- 10:26Speaker 7: essentially exploding, so they are going to get scared. They
- 10:30Speaker 7: are going to run and take cover. So just keep
- 10:32Speaker 7: in mind, make sure you have a very good hold
- 10:35Speaker 7: on all of your animals this weekend. That way, again,
- 10:38Speaker 7: we don't want to see them at our shelter. We
- 10:40Speaker 7: want them to be at home with you.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Got a text here for you for Angie. Have you
- 10:44Speaker 2: heard from Hennessy's family since he got home.
- 10:48Speaker 7: I have not heard anything personally after they have arrived home.
- 10:53Speaker 7: I do know that they made it home safely, and
- 10:55Speaker 7: they were extremely grateful to every donation. Everyone that you
- 11:00Speaker 7: talked about their story and wished them well. We sent them,
- 11:03Speaker 7: you know, sympathy. So I do know that they made
- 11:06Speaker 7: it home safely. But I have not heard anything since
- 11:09Speaker 7: them arriving back in Iowa.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Amy, are you familiar with the story we're talking about Tennessee?
- 11:13Speaker 2: This was last week on I sixty four. There was
- 11:15Speaker 2: a tragic accident involving the trucker and a passenger vehicle
- 11:20Speaker 2: and the trucker lost his life. He was a guy
- 11:21Speaker 2: from Iowa and he was killed in the act. And
- 11:23Speaker 2: we had his dog in the truck with him and
- 11:25Speaker 2: some mearitans, some good Samaritans, you know, the truck was
- 11:29Speaker 2: on fire. They broke out.
- 11:31Speaker 4: The windows, they climbed in, they got the dog out,
- 11:34Speaker 4: and they were able to save the dog's life, tragically,
- 11:37Speaker 4: not the trucker. And so they were able they were
- 11:40Speaker 4: trying to through the power of social media actually being
- 11:43Speaker 4: used for something good. For once, they were able to
- 11:45Speaker 4: track down the truck driver's family that lived in Iowa,
- 11:51Speaker 4: and those folks had to come into West Virginia, I
- 11:54Speaker 4: guess earlier this week, was.
- 11:55Speaker 7: That, right, Angie, Yeah, on Monday, and they had.
- 11:58Speaker 4: To come here to make the arrangements for their for
- 12:00Speaker 4: their dearly departed loved one. And they were able to
- 12:03Speaker 4: get the dog back.
- 12:04Speaker 8: And that was.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Because of social media and Angie, you know, you worked
- 12:08Speaker 4: with Humane Association out there in Iowa, and because of
- 12:11Speaker 4: a lot of people here in the Canal Valley, and
- 12:13Speaker 4: it was just unbelievable to me, Angie, just reading the comments,
- 12:15Speaker 4: people saying, you know what can I do. Let's do
- 12:19Speaker 4: a venmo on some on some gas money for him.
- 12:22Speaker 4: I saw somebody said I got an Airbnb. They can
- 12:24Speaker 4: stay here for free if they need to.
- 12:26Speaker 2: That's good stuff, right there, good stuff, good stuff in
- 12:29Speaker 2: a bad situation.
- 12:30Speaker 7: Yes, yeah, it's out pouring a support for Hennessy was
- 12:35Speaker 7: overwhelming for us at the shelter, and we like that
- 12:37Speaker 7: was a nice reminder of why we do what we do.
- 12:39Speaker 2: All right, Angie, I know you're busy. I know you
- 12:41Speaker 2: got a lot of I didn't want to mention real quick.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I was looking at your Facebook page. One hundred and
- 12:45Speaker 2: sixty six cats up there as of yesterday, and another
- 12:48Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty eight in foster care. Folks, please
- 12:52Speaker 2: please adopt some of these animals, right, I.
- 12:54Speaker 7: Adopt foster whatever anything else? Yes?
- 12:59Speaker 2: And what are your hours for the fourth Are you
- 13:01Speaker 2: guys going to be closed tomorrow?
- 13:02Speaker 7: So we will be closed tomorrow. We will have staff
- 13:05Speaker 7: in to clean the animals that close to the public
- 13:07Speaker 7: for at options. We reopen on Sunday at noon.
- 13:10Speaker 4: All right, And you gill On one of Canal Charleston,

- 16:16Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show.
- 16:17Speaker 4: It's nine twenty four of at eight Island Show on
- 16:19Speaker 4: five Adieline Broncho Bard by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest
- 16:21Speaker 4: injury law firm, Amy Rain is here. Look who just
- 16:24Speaker 4: walked into the studio. Here's Rob Real no security from
- 16:27Speaker 4: our sister station ninety six to one k W if
- 16:30Speaker 4: case of those that don't know, Rob was you were
- 16:33Speaker 4: up in the presidential gondolas at the Capitol yes today.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Also the bass player for the presidential gondolas. So the
- 16:39Speaker 2: big opening of the Big Wheel at the Capitol Complex
- 16:42Speaker 2: for the West Virginia Capital City celebration. They had a
- 16:46Speaker 2: special media event yesterday and apparently I'm not going to
- 16:50Speaker 2: call anybody out from our Metro News staff, but apparently
- 16:58Speaker 2: nobody upstairs was interesting in being a part of it.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And well, you know, I've seen combat. There's nothing of
- 17:04Speaker 2: Ferris Wheel is going to do to scare me. And
- 17:07Speaker 2: you have an ex wife two. For those of you
- 17:10Speaker 2: playing our home game, you can only you only split
- 17:13Speaker 2: your life and half so many times before it becomes worthless. Anyway.
- 17:17Speaker 2: So yeah, the Governor went up on the first ride
- 17:20Speaker 2: in the George Washington gondola, and you know, we got
- 17:23Speaker 2: to take lots of pictures and have a time and
- 17:24Speaker 2: have a little chat and then they send all of us,
- 17:27Speaker 2: you know, media hack people up there. The views are extraordinary.
- 17:31Speaker 6: How far can you see?
- 17:33Speaker 2: It was a little hazy yesterday morning, and yet the
- 17:37Speaker 2: blue and yellow Yegger bridges in Kenos City were quite clear.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And yeah, and so the dome looks, i'll use the
- 17:46Speaker 2: Governor's word, resplendent even in the daytime. And then if
- 17:50Speaker 2: you get up there at night, Our Paul Shockley was
- 17:51Speaker 2: up there last night and took some video of the
- 17:54Speaker 2: Liberty and Light show and it's it's really something to see,
- 17:57Speaker 2: and it's free. It's free, and that's all gone to capitol.
- 18:00Speaker 5: No.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I want to go back to regatta here for a
- 18:01Speaker 2: moment because the regatta part of Regatta that we said
- 18:04Speaker 2: we get all died up and all the stuff going on,
- 18:06Speaker 2: including the entertainment and all that stuff, and it's all wonderful,
- 18:09Speaker 2: but it's all about the water, Jim Crans is what
- 18:12Speaker 2: it's right now. Good morning, Welcome to.
- 18:14Speaker 8: This morning day.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And now where are you from originally?
- 18:17Speaker 5: Jim, I am originally from New York, but I have
- 18:20Speaker 5: been in West Virginia for fifty fifty years.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Okay, but part of New York you're from now, Long Island,
- 18:27Speaker 2: all right, it's called Long Island. So let's talk some
- 18:29Speaker 2: coffee island.
- 18:31Speaker 5: I hear that's the way people like to pronounce it.
- 18:33Speaker 5: I'm unaware of myself.
- 18:35Speaker 2: You've been in West Virginia long enough, So let's talk
- 18:38Speaker 2: about about your boats. The Donna Ray, right, Yes, I
- 18:40Speaker 2: talk about the Dona Y.
- 18:41Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 5: So the Donna Ray was built in nineteen eighty eight
- 18:44Speaker 5: in Pittsburgh by a man named John Faidley and his
- 18:47Speaker 5: family in his backyard. Took four years to build. Actually,
- 18:52Speaker 5: nineteen eighty eight is the year she was christened. And
- 18:55Speaker 5: they owned the boat and their family enjoyed it all
- 18:59Speaker 5: those years, and thirteen years ago we had the opportunity.
- 19:04Speaker 8: To buy it.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Everybody's got a different story on the boat. They're all different,
- 19:09Speaker 5: but we were not looking for one. But we have
- 19:13Speaker 5: friends down there now and when that boat came for sale,
- 19:18Speaker 5: they said, you got to go look at it. We did,
- 19:21Speaker 5: and next thing you know, we owned it. I didn't
- 19:23Speaker 5: expect that was.
- 19:24Speaker 4: This something though that maybe in the back of your
- 19:26Speaker 4: mind you said, you kind of just fell into it,
- 19:28Speaker 4: But it was in the back of your mind.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Maybe as a kid you had an interest in it.
- 19:31Speaker 5: It's some sort of Well, my wife and I are
- 19:33Speaker 5: boaters and we enjoy the river and we have a
- 19:38Speaker 5: boat a little cruiser. And again we've been around, We've
- 19:43Speaker 5: been to the festivals. We drive to them. We got
- 19:46Speaker 5: hotel rooms, and there are several festivals that happened. Charleston's
- 19:50Speaker 5: a big one, and I don't know, I can't tell you.
- 19:53Speaker 8: We just owned a boat there. It happened. We really
- 19:57Speaker 8: loved the guy who built it.
- 19:58Speaker 5: He just quite a a man, and I think we
- 20:01Speaker 5: fell in love with the boat and him.
- 20:02Speaker 2: So for the unfamiliar, and you mentioned being a boater before,
- 20:06Speaker 2: what are some of the big differences between being a
- 20:09Speaker 2: boater with you know, cruisers and pontoons and those sorts
- 20:12Speaker 2: of things as opposed to a stern wheeler.
- 20:16Speaker 5: So navigation of a boat no matter what its size,
- 20:19Speaker 5: is the same.
- 20:20Speaker 8: However, you're right around the river.
- 20:23Speaker 5: On a small pontoon boat or whatever that is, you
- 20:28Speaker 5: typically have an engine or an outdrive that turns and
- 20:32Speaker 5: the whole propeller turns to steer the boat. On sternwheel boats,
- 20:36Speaker 5: we have a solid wheel doesn't turn, and we have
- 20:40Speaker 5: rudders and so much like you might notice when the
- 20:44Speaker 5: barges are on the river, different than a car.
- 20:49Speaker 8: Cars steer from the front.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Where you turn you just go, but boats steer from
- 20:54Speaker 5: the back, even a pontoon boat.
- 20:56Speaker 8: It's just it's too short to notice that.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Longer the boat is, the more you realize it's the
- 21:03Speaker 5: it's the stern of the boat that is turning. And
- 21:07Speaker 5: so that is something in your head that you just
- 21:09Speaker 5: get used to doing the boats. I have one of
- 21:13Speaker 5: the one of the lighter stern wheel boats, and that's
- 21:15Speaker 5: a thirty two tons. Thirty two tons, the man said, yes,
- 21:21Speaker 5: you all are familiar with Brian Hughes. His kat h
- 21:26Speaker 5: is eighty tons, So they they're heavy, they're big, and
- 21:32Speaker 5: to be fair.
- 21:33Speaker 2: So am I not quite that big? No, although although
- 21:36Speaker 2: God is not over yet, you know, deep fried by
- 21:39Speaker 2: deep fried stuff. I think it's really interesting too because
- 21:43Speaker 2: I met Brian, I guess around the time he came
- 21:46Speaker 2: to Charleston, and I never had met anybody that was
- 21:49Speaker 2: that was into the boats like that and living on
- 21:51Speaker 2: one like Brian does. I never met anybody like and
- 21:53Speaker 2: I've learned a lot. One of the things I learned
- 21:55Speaker 2: from Brian is these things ain't cheap. When something when something.
- 21:58Speaker 5: Breaks down pairing, if you're not prepared for I mean,
- 22:04Speaker 5: the joke about boating in general is best day of
- 22:07Speaker 5: life is the day you bought the boat, and the
- 22:09Speaker 5: second best day is the day you sold the boat.
- 22:13Speaker 5: I would say the stern wheel owners do not fall
- 22:16Speaker 5: into that cattle. Occasionally somebody buys a boat and does
- 22:20Speaker 5: not realize what they're getting into.
- 22:23Speaker 8: But for the most part.
- 22:24Speaker 5: It's it's it's the ticket to punch. When you buy one,
- 22:29Speaker 5: it's money. It can go a year and really everything
- 22:34Speaker 5: runs great. But the parts these are not the kind
- 22:38Speaker 5: of thing that comes from a showroom. They're all literally
- 22:42Speaker 5: a one off with a one off story, and they're old.
- 22:47Speaker 5: We have two stern wheelers at the down at the
- 22:51Speaker 5: levee right now, the miss Sterling and the rufus B
- 22:54Speaker 5: two that are one hundred years old this year.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Wow, that does not have how was your boat down to?
- 23:01Speaker 8: We're thirty thirty thirty six? Somebody do the math for me.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Eighty eight, Yeah, thirty six, so we're thirty eight. Radio
- 23:11Speaker 2: people all looking at each.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Other's got to calculate me.
- 23:14Speaker 2: People are taking their shoes off.
- 23:16Speaker 5: But those things, those kind of years don't happen without
- 23:19Speaker 5: along the way, without people rescuing them and spending enormous
- 23:23Speaker 5: amounts of money. And that's just sort of the commitment
- 23:28Speaker 5: to it. We really most of us view ourselves as
- 23:30Speaker 5: stewarts of the boat we purchased, and it's our job
- 23:35Speaker 5: to get it to the next owner. Really whenever that
- 23:38Speaker 5: happens could be decades, and it could be sooner, but
- 23:42Speaker 5: it's our job to make sure that they're around. My
- 23:46Speaker 5: goal is to have Donna Ray someday hit one hundred
- 23:49Speaker 5: years old.
- 23:50Speaker 8: He certainly won't be around.
- 23:52Speaker 2: So as a broken down ballplayer, I am also very superstitious,
- 23:56Speaker 2: and I know there are some superstitions that go with
- 23:58Speaker 2: boats and ships. Which of the which of them are true? Like,
- 24:03Speaker 2: you know, it's bad luck to rename a boat, that
- 24:06Speaker 2: you when you christen a boat, that it has to
- 24:09Speaker 2: be a certain kind of champagne. For the longest time,
- 24:12Speaker 2: they didn't let women on boats because they considered it
- 24:15Speaker 2: bad luck. What are what are some of the superstitions
- 24:17Speaker 2: that still persist, and what are some of them that
- 24:20Speaker 2: may actually be true?
- 24:21Speaker 5: Well, I'd say none of them are true, okay, but
- 24:25Speaker 5: for sure people talk about the rename seems to be
- 24:29Speaker 5: common amongst a lot of boaters. Hear that, and it's
- 24:32Speaker 5: not true. However, there's a ceremony you do if you
- 24:36Speaker 5: just don't rename it, you have a ceremony and and
- 24:41Speaker 5: so if you have you have a little ceremony and
- 24:43Speaker 5: a re christening, then you most certainly can change the
- 24:46Speaker 5: name of Aquat. My wife and I decided when we
- 24:50Speaker 5: bought the boat that we were not going to rename
- 24:52Speaker 5: our boat. She was christened Donna Ray, and we bought
- 24:56Speaker 5: it and kept that name. And the Miss Sterling has
- 25:01Speaker 5: been the Miss Sterling for ninety nine of her one
- 25:05Speaker 5: hundred years wow. And that name is because Sterling Oil
- 25:09Speaker 5: Company owned that boat. So she became the Miss Sterling.
- 25:14Speaker 5: She stays the Miss Sterling. So on the other hand,
- 25:16Speaker 5: there are boats down there that probably have had eight
- 25:18Speaker 5: different names. And as long as you do it, now,
- 25:22Speaker 5: what happens if you don't nothing.
- 25:25Speaker 13: Say, I've had a couple. I've had a couple of
- 25:26Speaker 13: renaming ceremonies myself and the christening, you know, the christening
- 25:30Speaker 13: part of that. We've got photographs from sixty seventy years
- 25:36Speaker 13: ago of women towboat owners christening towboats. So I think
- 25:44Speaker 13: some of that stuff maybe just depending on.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Who had a text here.
- 25:50Speaker 4: Jima says, we met some people last night from South Carolina.
- 25:52Speaker 4: They had never been here before. The wife looked out
- 25:54Speaker 4: of the boats on the river and said, quote, look
- 25:57Speaker 4: at that.
- 25:57Speaker 2: That's unbelievable.
- 25:59Speaker 5: They are they they're unbelievable to us, believe it or not.
- 26:03Speaker 5: No matter how long we have it. As soon as
- 26:05Speaker 5: we pull in somewhere, we're all taking pictures of us together.
- 26:08Speaker 5: And the boats are like a traveling circus.
- 26:12Speaker 6: How far have you taken her?
- 26:14Speaker 5: So we've been to Pittsburgh with Don Away. That's a
- 26:17Speaker 5: four day trip. Generally speaking, it's a as a general rule,
- 26:24Speaker 5: every hour it would take you to get somewhere in
- 26:26Speaker 5: a car takes us one day in the boat.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Well, to be fair with the construction of Brisport, it
- 26:30Speaker 2: is a four day trip. So uh.
- 26:35Speaker 8: Anyway, we uh.
- 26:36Speaker 5: We have a lot of festivals that are in September,
- 26:40Speaker 5: and so in September we're gone typically for for a month.
- 26:44Speaker 8: People will have to.
- 26:45Speaker 5: Work, so we move boats, move cars, come back to
- 26:48Speaker 5: go to work. I'm now retired, so I get to
- 26:51Speaker 5: stay with the boat the whole time.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Which is what is because you know the shirt where
- 26:55Speaker 4: we're got. I had such a history here in Charleston,
- 26:57Speaker 4: and then it went away for a while, and then
- 26:58Speaker 4: it was brought back as far as the Stern wheelers go,
- 27:01Speaker 4: you folks, where does Charleston rank as far as I mean,
- 27:04Speaker 4: is it one of the premier ones that people really
- 27:07Speaker 4: look forward to. I mean, I would think with the
- 27:08Speaker 4: history and it used to be a ten day of that.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Now it's a little bit shorter, I would think that
- 27:13Speaker 4: it's probably pretty well regarded.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:15Speaker 8: Yeah, it most certainly is. I mean, you know, shout
- 27:18Speaker 8: out to Mayor Goodwin for just getting it done. She
- 27:23Speaker 8: said she was going to bring it back, and she did.
- 27:25Speaker 2: She ran on that a.
- 27:27Speaker 5: She assembled a great group of people and they work
- 27:30Speaker 5: incredibly hard every day of the year to make this happen.
- 27:34Speaker 5: So we're always thankful. You know, whatever city we go to,
- 27:39Speaker 5: they all want to thank the boats for coming. Hard
- 27:42Speaker 5: to have a sternwheel festival without a sternwheel boat, But honestly,
- 27:47Speaker 5: it's it's the boats. It's the Stern wheelers paddle boats
- 27:52Speaker 5: that thanked the cities. Really, we wouldn't have anywhere to
- 27:55Speaker 5: go if the cities didn't do this. Charleston is certainly
- 27:58Speaker 5: high on the list, but so is Marietta, Ohio. The
- 28:02Speaker 5: Marietta Festival, unlike the Charleston Festival, never had a break and.
- 28:08Speaker 8: Never had a pause.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Yeah, and so this year Marietta is their fiftieth year.
- 28:15Speaker 5: So and they're all different. We go to all of
- 28:19Speaker 5: them for different reasons. It's not a competition at all.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I would say that Charleston stands out for the entertainment,
- 28:32Speaker 5: Marietta stands out.
- 28:33Speaker 8: For their fireworks.
- 28:34Speaker 5: Yeah, although we're about to see the biggest fireworks in
- 28:37Speaker 5: West Virginia history, but Marietta traditionally would stand out for that.
- 28:42Speaker 2: So it really is the fraternity of stern wheelers. There's
- 28:44Speaker 2: not a lot of competition, not a not a big
- 28:46Speaker 2: Jets and Sharks rumble.
- 28:48Speaker 6: Sort of like a car club too. My parents were
- 28:51Speaker 6: always in a car clubs.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Yeah, we have the American Stern wheel Association. Actually Brian
- 28:56Speaker 5: uses our president this year, and so yeah, it is
- 29:01Speaker 5: it is a club so to speak. Yeah, we all
- 29:05Speaker 5: we all know each other and it's you know, one
- 29:10Speaker 5: of the boats, the Jenny b coming up from Sardis, Ohio,
- 29:14Speaker 5: which is across from Sistersville, they broke a wheel shaft
- 29:18Speaker 5: coming down here, and you know what, Amherst sent a
- 29:25Speaker 5: boat and brought them up to Charleston alongside of a
- 29:28Speaker 5: set of barges. And dropped them off down below Nitro
- 29:33Speaker 5: and got some Stern wheelers together and we went down
- 29:38Speaker 5: there and got them and we towed them back and
- 29:40Speaker 5: and everybody helps everybody.
- 29:42Speaker 8: We've all been broke. It's sadly part of it.
- 29:45Speaker 5: And when you do, you're not alone.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Jim, I appreciate you coming in these in the studio
- 29:50Speaker 4: with us and educating.
- 29:52Speaker 8: Us on this, and I appreciate you having us absolutely.

- 30:06Speaker 5: I've already done it myself and it's a little bit
- 30:10Speaker 5: of a breeze going. There's air conditioning, food and drink
- 30:14Speaker 5: on the boat. Well, let's go, and it's a wonderful experience.
- 30:18Speaker 5: I just would really recommend people.
- 30:20Speaker 8: To do that.
- 30:21Speaker 6: What are the times for that?
- 30:22Speaker 5: So the Valley Gem you can go to the just

- 30:39Speaker 5: dinner cruise as well.

- 33:22Speaker 4: Pinnacle Corp dot net. Help me you understand your environment
- 33:25Speaker 4: because what you don't know can't hurt your Amy Rain
- 33:27Speaker 4: is with us. You've learned about boats, and you already
- 33:29Speaker 4: know about animals on the show today, give me all
- 33:32Speaker 4: the animals and well here we are, yeah, here we
- 33:34Speaker 4: are speak to speaking speaking of the animals.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Here's another one and it's I'm an animals. It's Logan Scott.
- 33:40Speaker 2: He's not the No, I'm not the animal.
- 33:43Speaker 9: No.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Logan Scott from V. One hundred is here. How you
- 33:45Speaker 2: being my friend? I am well?
- 33:46Speaker 17: How are you?
- 33:46Speaker 2: I am doing fine. I'm gonna read a text here
- 33:50Speaker 2: about regatta last night and it was a little uh well,
- 33:53Speaker 2: I'll just read it. It says day first night of
- 33:55Speaker 2: Forgotta was a delight. It's a good part.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Two small pieces of feedback from someone who's trying to
- 34:00Speaker 4: listen to Melissa Ethridge from a boat in front of
- 34:02Speaker 4: the levee. Maybe turn one or two speakers toward the river.
- 34:05Speaker 4: Could hardly hear the music from any boat. Also possibly
- 34:08Speaker 4: coordinate coal barge traffic better. Last night half the boats
- 34:11Speaker 4: had to pull anchors and move in a hurry during
- 34:13Speaker 4: Melissa's set because a huge barge came through.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Surely they can time that better. So you know, you know, people,
- 34:20Speaker 2: I do. That's not long. There, you go appreciate the text.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Why are you here? You asked me to be here?
- 34:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there is that, Dave Wire, any of us
- 34:30Speaker 2: that's true? I mean I can still be sleeping right now. Yeah,
- 34:33Speaker 2: I'm just kidding, you don't sleep the T shirts. The
- 34:37Speaker 2: T shirts are enough enough for us to be here,
- 34:40Speaker 2: I guess. And food coupons. So howard things going with?
- 34:44Speaker 2: For gotta know, you've been all over the same man.
- 34:45Speaker 2: I mean, you've been down there, and Rob has two
- 34:47Speaker 2: and Rob has been at the Capitol as well, and
- 34:49Speaker 2: several other people have been. All it's a busy time
- 34:51Speaker 2: here in Charlestown. Yeah, So one key takeaway that I
- 34:55Speaker 2: should pass along make sure you stay hydrated. Yeah, because
- 34:58Speaker 2: it was hot yesterday, very hot. And there are cooling
- 35:00Speaker 2: stations at the end of Summer Street, at the four points,
- 35:04Speaker 2: by Sheraton, in front of the Shanklin Parking Garage, and
- 35:08Speaker 2: by the Police Department as well, all there along Cannon Boulevard.
- 35:12Speaker 2: So and also just kind of goes to what we're
- 35:17Speaker 2: getting ready talking about here. Someone someone wanted to know,
- 35:19Speaker 2: will the fireworks music be on speakers at all three
- 35:22Speaker 2: launch locations on the boulevard or do you have to
- 35:24Speaker 2: have a radio or streaming which has a delay. Well,
- 35:27Speaker 2: don't worry. It will be on all of our WVRC
- 35:29Speaker 2: Media Charleston station starting around nine to forty five tomorrow night. Yes,
- 35:33Speaker 2: there will be a delay if you're streaming on our
- 35:35Speaker 2: app about forty seconds forty five seconds.
- 35:37Speaker 4: And that's that's true of the apps in general. They're
- 35:40Speaker 4: about thirty to forty seconds behind. Yes, but that's one
- 35:42Speaker 4: of the reason why I wanted you to come in here.
- 35:43Speaker 4: Among other reasons, I did want to point out that
- 35:45Speaker 4: all of our stations tomorrow evening, while you're watching the fireworks,
- 35:49Speaker 4: you'll be able to tune to V one hundred kws
- 35:52Speaker 4: the Mountain, any of our stations, and you will be
- 35:54Speaker 4: able to actually have a soundtrack to go along with
- 35:57Speaker 4: the fireworks.
- 35:57Speaker 2: And I'm still working on that soundtrack. Let me speak,
- 36:00Speaker 2: no pressure. I'm laughing because I've been that guy before.
- 36:03Speaker 2: He's got a stack of cassettes in his office, you know.
- 36:06Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's still the way to do it, right,
- 36:08Speaker 2: Oh absolutely no, No, No, like live studio orchestra.
- 36:11Speaker 8: Yeah yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Coordinating all the big talents to big names to be here. Look,
- 36:15Speaker 2: I've got the Aim of Steel band. They're the official
- 36:17Speaker 2: band of the day. Arturo Toscanini and Xavier Cougut are
- 36:21Speaker 2: not available. You're gonna hear.
- 36:23Speaker 6: Theyboards the classics.
- 36:26Speaker 2: I mean Lee Greenwood's in the mix. Uh, Miley Cyrus
- 36:29Speaker 2: is in the mix, of course, Katie Perry the Fourth
- 36:33Speaker 2: of July soundtrack. So and and it does take a
- 36:36Speaker 2: lot of work to put that together. I mean, it
- 36:38Speaker 2: really does. I am not the technical guy that does
- 36:40Speaker 2: that kind of things, but I'm sitting here with three
- 36:42Speaker 2: people that do things like this, and it's Robertson. I
- 36:46Speaker 2: have specifically done what he is doing, and the challenge
- 36:51Speaker 2: of it's challenging enough to create a soundtrack for a
- 36:54Speaker 2: fireworks display, he's actually doing it backwards. He's having to
- 36:58Speaker 2: create a soundtrack that fits an existing scripted display, which
- 37:03Speaker 2: is much harder than hey, here's the music, create fireworks
- 37:07Speaker 2: to go with that. I'm on draft number five, but
- 37:10Speaker 2: probably ten or fifteen I could go for another draft. Yes,
- 37:13Speaker 2: oh yeah, well that's true.
- 37:16Speaker 4: So yesterday was the opening day. We got to Like
- 37:18Speaker 4: I said, you spent a lot of time down there.
- 37:20Speaker 4: You were on the boat with the mayor and other people.
- 37:22Speaker 4: I mean, other than it being hot, it's been a
- 37:26Speaker 4: pretty good time so far. After one day, it was
- 37:29Speaker 4: I've not had any funnel kicks yet. That's on the
- 37:31Speaker 4: agenda for today or tomorrow. Shame on you, I know,
- 37:34Speaker 4: I know, but yeah. So Steven Jinny did their show
- 37:37Speaker 4: from the kat H Stern Wheeler yesterday morning. I did
- 37:40Speaker 4: my show yesterday afternoon, and I'll be doing it again
- 37:42Speaker 4: today and tomorrow as well. So we're everywhere down You
- 37:46Speaker 4: can stop by the Kadh and say hello. I'll be
- 37:48Speaker 4: on the back deck Justy on mine, You and Bola,
- 37:50Speaker 4: Me and Boson and Moose is down there too.
- 37:52Speaker 2: So okay, yeah, that's right.
- 37:54Speaker 4: We had a text here a couple of suggestions for you,
- 37:57Speaker 4: Elvis American Trilogy or Ray Charles America The Beautiful. I
- 38:01Speaker 4: would say Freebird. You know, I just say put freebird.
- 38:03Speaker 4: That that's just me being from Logan.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I still need some fillers, so yeah, and I don't
- 38:06Speaker 2: mean filler, but I mean I need a couple. There's
- 38:08Speaker 2: a couple of he has some gaps he need to
- 38:11Speaker 2: I will say this, I'm a fan of both of
- 38:13Speaker 2: those songs. Ray Charles America The Beautiful is I've said
- 38:18Speaker 2: for years that should be our national anthem. His version
- 38:20Speaker 2: of My Beautiful It is the way he does it's
- 38:22Speaker 2: I mean, it's freaking Ray Charles. You know he can
- 38:24Speaker 2: do whatever, but I mean the way he does that
- 38:26Speaker 2: song is absolutely fantastic. And when nine to eleven happened,
- 38:31Speaker 2: I did a little thing. I was working at a
- 38:33Speaker 2: radio station in Logan, and you know, this is before
- 38:37Speaker 2: the Internet like we know it now or the social
- 38:39Speaker 2: media like we know it now, and so I just
- 38:42Speaker 2: on nine eleven afternoon, I went I took a cassette recorder,
- 38:47Speaker 2: went through the streets and interviewed people, put it together
- 38:51Speaker 2: and put this was Logan, West Virginia on September eleventh,
- 38:55Speaker 2: and I interviewed people on the street and looped it
- 38:58Speaker 2: over Ray Charles. I wish I had a copy of it,
- 39:01Speaker 2: that would be nice, because it's one of the best
- 39:02Speaker 2: things I've ever done, to be honest with you, and
- 39:04Speaker 2: it wasn't me, it was the people that were But
- 39:05Speaker 2: it's a fantastic song. Yeah, yeah, I don't think that
- 39:08Speaker 2: one's in there, so I have to okay, all right, right,
- 39:11Speaker 2: we'll work on well we have till nine five tomorrow nights. Yeah,
- 39:15Speaker 2: there you go, TikTok. And and everybody always asks the
- 39:18Speaker 2: age old question about when do the fireworks start. It's
- 39:20Speaker 2: like a running joke and radio but Rice we say
- 39:22Speaker 2: dark and they say when it is dark? Right, approximately
- 39:25Speaker 2: nine forty five. It could be ten o'clock, it could
- 39:27Speaker 2: be ninety two. My suggestion has been set your alarm
- 39:31Speaker 2: on your phone for about nine forty. You'll notice it's
- 39:34Speaker 2: getting dark, but you may not be aware of that
- 39:36Speaker 2: it's getting dark. If that distinction makes sense, it's about
- 39:39Speaker 2: nine forty. It'll go often. Oh yeah, I need to
- 39:41Speaker 2: get wherever I need to be to watch the fireworks,
- 39:44Speaker 2: turn up my radio and be ready to and remember
- 39:46Speaker 2: it's after Brett Michaels is over. So I mean, depending
- 39:49Speaker 2: on if they shift things tomorrow night. I mean that
- 39:52Speaker 2: that's a factor.
- 39:53Speaker 12: I mean.
- 39:53Speaker 2: And then the world of music. You guys know this name,
- 39:55Speaker 2: you know this as well. Those guys come in with
- 39:57Speaker 2: a set list. Sometimes they sometimes they stick to it
- 40:00Speaker 2: one percent. Sometimes they switch things around.
- 40:02Speaker 4: Sometimes they feed off the crowd and go, hey, we
- 40:04Speaker 4: need to extend this a little bit longer.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Sometimes they need to beat off their guns, say we
- 40:08Speaker 2: need to get off the stage. But I will tell
- 40:09Speaker 2: you Brett Michaels puts on a fan it's a Hurtreak
- 40:12Speaker 2: show and he's really good. I've worked with Brett in
- 40:15Speaker 2: a couple of events like this, and I can tell
- 40:18Speaker 2: you that even with the elasticity of his show. He
- 40:21Speaker 2: still comes from a Pittsburgh steel working family, and he
- 40:24Speaker 2: knows when the whistle is gonna blow, he will he
- 40:26Speaker 2: will hit on time, guarantee.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Okay, thank you, Brett. We appreciate that.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and of course Leader Ford is going to be
- 40:32Speaker 2: opening up for Did you get to see the concert
- 40:34Speaker 2: law last night?
- 40:35Speaker 12: And I did?
- 40:35Speaker 2: One of you because I didn't know if you were
- 40:36Speaker 2: just too busy? Did you chances I did? One of
- 40:38Speaker 2: my friends actually got to meet and greet.
- 40:41Speaker 8: Why no, no?
- 40:41Speaker 2: So that so it was It was awesome. I mean
- 40:45Speaker 2: she's the best. You know, you hear these stories about
- 40:49Speaker 2: about celebrities of all types. We've talked about it on
- 40:51Speaker 2: the show before. She has a reputation for being a
- 40:55Speaker 2: really really nice, cool person. Now I say that and
- 40:58Speaker 2: she may like push over a kid Walmart or something,
- 41:01Speaker 2: but I'm just saying she's got that reputation. Well, and
- 41:03Speaker 2: I didn't realize she's lives like she was born an
- 41:06Speaker 2: hour away from here.
- 41:07Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so learned something.
- 41:10Speaker 8: New, all right.
- 41:12Speaker 2: And teeny tiny little woman for all the tabloid stuff
- 41:16Speaker 2: and the shape of her face photographs in her particular way.
- 41:20Speaker 2: She's tiny, really ity bitty little woman. Biggest things about
- 41:24Speaker 2: her hair, her voice, and the heels. Last night, Okay,
- 41:28Speaker 2: I got a u a question for you, Rob. I'll
- 41:30Speaker 2: let Logan get back.
- 41:31Speaker 4: For how long does the full circle on the ferrest
- 41:33Speaker 4: will take? I can't imagine. Its too pleasant inside the gondola,
- 41:36Speaker 4: being so hot, it goes you'll go around twice because
- 41:41Speaker 4: it is so hot. There are fans going inside the gondolas,
- 41:45Speaker 4: but they're also kind of enclosed in plexiglass so that
- 41:48Speaker 4: people don't do anything silly like throw stuff out, and
- 41:51Speaker 4: so the air can get a little stagnant up there.
- 41:56Speaker 4: I think if it were eighty five degrees it'd be great,
- 41:59Speaker 4: but because it was ninety eight yesterday, it was be
- 42:03Speaker 4: hydrated when you go on me and yesterday on midday
- 42:06Speaker 4: we interviewed the guy or some of the people that
- 42:09Speaker 4: are doing the light show aspect of what's going on
- 42:11Speaker 4: in the Capitol and the things that they.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Go into that. I mean, they're working well over a
- 42:16Speaker 2: month on just and you it's kind of like you're
- 42:18Speaker 2: working on this break list, you know, they were working
- 42:20Speaker 2: so there's a lot more computers involved. I'm thinking this,
- 42:22Speaker 2: and there are two assurances I can give regarding the line,
- 42:26Speaker 2: because I get that question a lot. It moves very
- 42:28Speaker 2: quickly for two reasons. Number One, when it's full, it
- 42:31Speaker 2: actually goes faster than when there are fewer people because
- 42:34Speaker 2: there's not as much concern about balancing weight because they
- 42:37Speaker 2: can just load cars as people get off. People get on.
- 42:40Speaker 2: When it's a small crowd like this afternoon, that's actually
- 42:43Speaker 2: going to take longer. And then the line is filled
- 42:46Speaker 2: with families of like four and five and six people.
- 42:49Speaker 2: So what looks like along line going back to those
- 42:51Speaker 2: capital doors is going to move quickly. That's good. A
- 42:55Speaker 2: text said I love when mine ownA came out on
- 42:57Speaker 2: stage and said I'm home with their arms open, bring
- 42:59Speaker 2: her back. Yeah, it was good stuff right there. We
- 43:02Speaker 2: don't want to forget that. Tonight.
- 43:04Speaker 4: We got Bobby Brown and bow Wow and Montel Jordan
- 43:08Speaker 4: are all a plane tonight because this is.
- 43:10Speaker 1: How we do it.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I was going to break out and saw I don't
- 43:12Speaker 2: want to hear that.
- 43:13Speaker 4: See, Amy and I are roughly the same age. You
- 43:16Speaker 4: guys are a little bit younger than us, not me.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Well you are okay, but we would have gone to
- 43:21Speaker 4: high school together. I graduated in ninety okay, and you
- 43:24Speaker 4: were at eight.
- 43:24Speaker 8: What year were you?
- 43:25Speaker 2: Amy eighty nine eight was born in ninety seven, So
- 43:28Speaker 2: all right, well, let's interviews over. Can we can we
- 43:31Speaker 2: talk about.
- 43:32Speaker 8: Duck race real quick?
- 43:33Speaker 2: We could talk about duck race. That's actually I think
- 43:34Speaker 2: why you're here, but go ahead, all right, So United
- 43:36Speaker 2: we have Central West Virginia. They're going to be dumping
- 43:39Speaker 2: fifteen thousand ducks off the South Side Bridge Sunday at
- 43:42Speaker 2: eleven am. So there are nine different prizes. The first
- 43:45Speaker 2: duck over the finish line is going to get four
- 43:47Speaker 2: thousand dollars cash, so it's five dollars a duck. They
- 43:50Speaker 2: have many different options you can for the duck purchases,
- 43:54Speaker 2: but they will be dumped at eleven o'clock. Go across
- 43:59Speaker 2: the finish line. There had at Riverfront at the show
- 44:01Speaker 2: and bomb stage. So you can purchase a duck at
- 44:05Speaker 2: V one hundred dot FM. We have the link there,
- 44:07Speaker 2: or you can text duck race all one word to
- 44:10Speaker 2: five to one five five five and last I checked,
- 44:12Speaker 2: they were at like eleven thousand ducks, So don't wait
- 44:15Speaker 2: because they're going to be sold out by the time
- 44:17Speaker 2: you know, purchase a duck. So make sure you get
- 44:19Speaker 2: your ducks in a row. Yep. And last year they
- 44:23Speaker 2: sold ten thousand, and that helped over seventy eight thousand
- 44:26Speaker 2: neighbors here in our six their six county region.
- 44:29Speaker 4: And when I had Krrie Cooper on the show a
- 44:31Speaker 4: couple of days ago, and again this was I think,
- 44:33Speaker 4: what is Tuesday, Joe Wednesday?
- 44:35Speaker 2: This week they were running a little bit behind. Yeah,
- 44:37Speaker 2: last year and do you have any updates on that?
- 44:39Speaker 2: I mean, are we catching? They're on track where they
- 44:42Speaker 2: need to be. Again, everybody's last minute were last minute,
- 44:45Speaker 2: So don't be last minute. Go by your duck now,
- 44:47Speaker 2: all right, So look Scott V one hundred, get back
- 44:50Speaker 2: to work up there. Well, all right, we'll take a

- 48:06Speaker 2: because you grew up here in the Charleston area. And
- 48:08Speaker 2: what are some of your memories of Regatta?
- 48:09Speaker 6: Oh, Mercy, I loved Regatta. I love it now. Gloria
- 48:13Speaker 6: Stefan and the Miami Sound Machine. That was my very
- 48:16Speaker 6: first Regatta concert. And I stood in the crowd that
- 48:21Speaker 6: were it was not unlike the crowds of today's regatta
- 48:25Speaker 6: for Billy Raycires and I was like right there in
- 48:28Speaker 6: the middle, couldn't move, and I'm like, that's great, I
- 48:30Speaker 6: couldn't move. And of course my favorite event of all
- 48:34Speaker 6: was the car shows because my parents were in the
- 48:36Speaker 6: Antique Car club and so I was always helping out
- 48:39Speaker 6: with that and getting everybody registered and occasionally on the
- 48:43Speaker 6: mic for that too.
- 48:44Speaker 2: But oh yeah, I love well.
- 48:47Speaker 4: And then it's back and then in growing up in
- 48:50Speaker 4: southern West Virginia, I mean I knew people from my
- 48:52Speaker 4: part of the world that would come to Charleston and
- 48:54Speaker 4: get a hotel room because were talking about a ten
- 48:57Speaker 4: day event. They may not say all ten days, but
- 48:59Speaker 4: they would come and just take it, take it all in.
- 49:02Speaker 7: Well.
- 49:03Speaker 6: Yeah, another radio station that I worked for in town
- 49:06Speaker 6: at the time, I got a hotel room at what
- 49:10Speaker 6: is it now, the four Yes, thank you. I had
- 49:14Speaker 6: a hotel room there so they could come in and
- 49:16Speaker 6: out as as they pleased.
- 49:17Speaker 2: And I do want to mention too, if you come
- 49:20Speaker 2: down to Regatta.
- 49:21Speaker 4: We talked about it a couple of days ago at
- 49:23Speaker 4: the Four Points by Shared and they have got this
- 49:25Speaker 4: Regatta Museum set up and it's basically been I mean,
- 49:29Speaker 4: they put they put the h they brought stuff I
- 49:32Speaker 4: mean people just donated stuff at Regatta through the years,
- 49:34Speaker 4: and how it's how it's grown and so and plus
- 49:37Speaker 4: it's air conditioning there as well, so if you need
- 49:39Speaker 4: to get that's why I checked it out yesterday.
- 49:42Speaker 2: They said, sir, you've been here for eight hours. You've
- 49:44Speaker 2: seen it all now again for you. But but they
- 49:47Speaker 2: you may want to you may want to duck in there.
- 49:49Speaker 2: And there's just so many things going on in the
- 49:51Speaker 2: limited amount of time we haven't had a chance to,
- 49:53Speaker 2: you know, cover them all. I talked to Adam Harris
- 49:55Speaker 2: about the Regatta wrestling event that is on Lambry brought
- 49:59Speaker 2: to you by Gene. That's going to be going on,
- 50:01Speaker 2: the dog dog races.
- 50:02Speaker 6: What else you got hot dog eating contest? A friend
- 50:05Speaker 6: of mine won last year.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Oh he's a two time defending champ.
- 50:11Speaker 6: Now yeah, is it Debbie's son?
- 50:14Speaker 17: Yes?
- 50:14Speaker 2: And his name just flew out of my head.
- 50:17Speaker 6: Sorry Debbie, I forgot his name too.
- 50:19Speaker 2: I have participated the past couple of years and he
- 50:22Speaker 2: is not what you would He is a tall, slender
- 50:24Speaker 2: man and you don't look at him and think, oh, well,
- 50:26Speaker 2: he's the glutton who's gonna plow through thirty six hot dogs,
- 50:29Speaker 2: and yet here we are. Look look at I mean,
- 50:31Speaker 2: it's a scientifical fact that the people that tam tendency
- 50:35Speaker 2: to do better, those are smaller people. And you mentioned
- 50:38Speaker 2: so much to do right now. I actually had somebody
- 50:40Speaker 2: yesterday at the Capitol say it's a shame that the
- 50:42Speaker 2: dirty birds are on the road. Why couldn't they be
- 50:44Speaker 2: home during all this? And I'm like, is there not
- 50:46Speaker 2: enough to do?
- 50:47Speaker 6: Who would find the time?
- 50:49Speaker 2: All right, We're gonna get this texting real quick.
