- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we're live academy or with coach Orama, live studio audience,
- 0:03Speaker 1: and the b U hockey team is upstairs having dinner here.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Somebody must be game A a good recommendation, maybe Captain,
- 0:11Speaker 1: that's probably that's probably the right thing, right, Captain.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Well, one of the kids that's insistent at BU used
- 0:16Speaker 2: to be asistant, of course.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Of course that's right, Joey right, that's right, yes, Joe
- 0:22Speaker 1: Joe Perreira.
- 0:23Speaker 2: So, yes, it's a huge game tomorrow night for our
- 0:26Speaker 2: hockey team. Our hockey team's gonna make the NCAA tournament
- 0:30Speaker 2: this year for the first time in the history of
- 0:31Speaker 2: the program. Yep, so that would be really incredible too.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Maybe you know we host the game, who knows. I
- 0:38Speaker 2: don't know how they work that.
- 0:39Speaker 1: No idea regionals for the NCAA tournament. So I mean
- 0:43Speaker 1: they could go to Manchester, New Hampshire, they could go
- 0:44Speaker 1: downtown Pennsylvania, and I forget the other two, but one's
- 0:47Speaker 1: way out west like Fargo. But anyhow, they the most
- 0:50Speaker 1: important thing right now is hosting a Hockey East game.
- 0:53Speaker 1: That's that's next on the docket. Be you tomorrow night,
- 0:55Speaker 1: six forty five on the radio. We have games on
- 0:57Speaker 1: the radio all week between hoops and hockey with Gino here.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Last three games have been on the road, your final
- 1:03Speaker 1: three road games of the season, the win at Butler Saturday,
- 1:07Speaker 1: preceded by the win at Seaton Hall, preceded by the
- 1:10Speaker 1: win over South Carolina, which was a magnificent performance from
- 1:13Speaker 1: your team. They dictated the pace right from the get go,
- 1:17Speaker 1: got off to a good start, Jenna played really well
- 1:20Speaker 1: early on, and you know then you got contributions from
- 1:23Speaker 1: everybody at some point and geez, thirteen threes later plus
- 1:27Speaker 1: nineteen on the glass, thirty one fast break points and
- 1:30Speaker 1: you beat them pretty good at South Carolina. That was
- 1:32Speaker 1: an impressive win. Did you kind of did you have
- 1:35Speaker 1: any sense that something like that, or at least getting
- 1:38Speaker 1: a win out of there, was was looking pretty good
- 1:40Speaker 1: the way your team had practiced leading up to that game.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I could see us losing by twenty eighth down there,
- 1:46Speaker 2: So yeah, I could see something like that happening. The
- 1:52Speaker 2: way it played out was the way it has to
- 1:55Speaker 2: play out, you know. Still, and those guys were here,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I don't know how many times in a row we
- 2:05Speaker 2: beat them, six seven, I don't know, I forget what
- 2:07Speaker 2: it was, but you matter of fact, Asia Wilson never
- 2:14Speaker 2: won a game against US in four years. But you
- 2:19Speaker 2: have to get the lead, and you have to play
- 2:21Speaker 2: with the lead, and if you have to play come
- 2:25Speaker 2: from behind against them, it's really, really, really hard. So
- 2:29Speaker 2: once we got the lead, and once you know, they
- 2:33Speaker 2: had to play a little bit differently than they wanted
- 2:36Speaker 2: to play, probably because they were trying to get twos
- 2:41Speaker 2: and we were getting threes. So that changed the whole
- 2:45Speaker 2: way they needed to play. And everybody that played for
- 2:51Speaker 2: US played really, really, really really well. And and actually
- 2:56Speaker 2: Page didn't have her best game, and that's okay because
- 3:01Speaker 2: you know, Asy did what Asy did. And I just
- 3:04Speaker 2: think that's that bodes well going into the NCAA tournament
- 3:09Speaker 2: because you you have to get contributions from everybody. You know.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Believe me, if we played them again, it's not going
- 3:17Speaker 2: to be a twenty eight point game, I mean. And
- 3:21Speaker 2: whether it's them or USC or North Notre Dame or
- 3:26Speaker 2: any of those teams. You know, whatever happened during the
- 3:29Speaker 2: regular season, that's not gonna that's not going to matter
- 3:32Speaker 2: the next time you played them in the NCAA tournament.
- 3:34Speaker 1: No, for sure, because of some of the matchups because
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know, and Deed talks about this a lot on
- 3:40Speaker 1: the radio. When you guys are with your small group,
- 3:43Speaker 1: that choose your best group. But on the defensive end,
- 3:45Speaker 1: it also means that someone of those guards have got
- 3:48Speaker 1: to guard one of the bigs Page I think had
- 3:50Speaker 1: to guard whether it be Joyce Edwards or one of
- 3:52Speaker 1: their bigs constantly. That can take a lot out of you.
- 3:55Speaker 1: She had a good rebounding day, and she had and
- 3:56Speaker 1: she distributed the ball well. And the one thing that
- 3:58Speaker 1: I liked about her getting the ball made it a
- 4:01Speaker 1: point get the ball up the floor quick before you
- 4:03Speaker 1: can get in the half court set. I'm sure. I
- 4:05Speaker 1: mean making shots certainly helps, which what you did, but
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'm sure that was a point of emphasis for you
- 4:10Speaker 1: guys not to get this turn into a half court slot.
- 4:13Speaker 2: No, yeah, you can't do that. You can't do that
- 4:15Speaker 2: against them. That doesn't work, you know the eat Excuse me.
- 4:22Speaker 2: The easiest way to attack a team is when they're
- 4:26Speaker 2: running back on defense because if you wait and walk
- 4:30Speaker 2: it up the floor and they're already set when you
- 4:33Speaker 2: get there, I don't care who it is, the worst
- 4:38Speaker 2: team in America is going to make life miserable for
- 4:41Speaker 2: you because they can just dictate how they want to
- 4:44Speaker 2: play defensively, so pushing the ball up the floor, running
- 4:49Speaker 2: the ball up the floor, throwing the ball ahead of
- 4:52Speaker 2: everybody and not passing up any open shots, you know,
- 4:58Speaker 2: and being really aggressive. That's the way you got. That's
- 5:02Speaker 2: the way you got to play. And I think that's
- 5:04Speaker 2: that's the best way for us to play.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Our big lineup, you know, is not necessarily our best lineup.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You know, I would like for it to be down
- 5:15Speaker 2: the road, you know, I would like for it to
- 5:17Speaker 2: be where, you know, where Jenna has twenty minutes like
- 5:21Speaker 2: her first five minutes of that game, you know, but
- 5:25Speaker 2: you know, she drives me crazy because you see the
- 5:27Speaker 2: seat in the Hall game and the Butler game and
- 5:29Speaker 2: it wasn't anything like the South Carolina game. So you know,
- 5:33Speaker 2: you have to be able to you know, sustain this stuff,
- 5:38Speaker 2: you know, saying with Asy, you know, like she was
- 5:42Speaker 2: first team All American South Carolina. Then you know, the
- 5:45Speaker 2: next couple of games, like very tentative. I'm not sure
- 5:47Speaker 2: if I want to shoot or not. You know, like
- 5:50Speaker 2: I don't understand women, man, I really don't. All this
- 5:53Speaker 2: time that I've been doing this and I still don't
- 5:55Speaker 2: get it. I really don't. I mean, there's there's three
- 6:02Speaker 2: words that will never come out of a men's basketball
- 6:04Speaker 2: coach's mouth to any of their players. You got to
- 6:07Speaker 2: shoot more, They're saying, Yo, will you pass the ball
- 6:13Speaker 2: once in a while. Me, I gotta figure out a
- 6:17Speaker 2: way to get these guys to shoot more, to be
- 6:20Speaker 2: more aggressive with the ball. And I don't understand why
- 6:23Speaker 2: I have to. I have to be it, be it,
- 6:25Speaker 2: I have to be like that, you know, they should
- 6:27Speaker 2: just like Sarah. She drives me crazy too.
- 6:31Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:31Speaker 2: We throw at the ball and she just can't wait
- 6:33Speaker 2: to pass it to somebody. And I don't. I don't
- 6:36Speaker 2: get it. I really don't, you know. You know, you
- 6:41Speaker 2: know when I coached vetas Veda wasn't passing ball to anybody.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Seda was trying to get thirty points every night. You know,
- 6:49Speaker 2: that's it. Shaye Raff wasn't passing the ball to anybody.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Swing Cash wasn't passing the ball to anybody. Those guys
- 6:56Speaker 2: when they got the ball, they were trying to score.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And that's what made them so good. You know. They
- 7:01Speaker 2: were constantly attacking, They were constantly putting you on the
- 7:05Speaker 2: you know, on your heels, and I gotta get Sarah
- 7:08Speaker 2: to be that. I got to get her to that
- 7:09Speaker 2: point because she's the one player on our team that
- 7:13Speaker 2: no one that we've played has a matchup for her.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So there may be a game where we run every
- 7:21Speaker 2: play for her. And don't be surprised.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I could come up on Thursday, shit a monster game
- 7:27Speaker 1: against Great in the first time around.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yeah, because they have nobody that can guard.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Her, that's right, nobody more just in points and rebounds.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I think she had like six blocks or five blocks
- 7:34Speaker 1: and six steals. She was incredible a month ago. All right,
- 7:37Speaker 1: we'll come back here live at kaffey Ra with geno
- 7:39Speaker 1: Oriama on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show on Learfield
- 7:42Speaker 1: in just a moment, Stay with us.
