- 1:43I was like swallowing on my phlegm and I was I got caught in
- 1:47the throat. It was like.
- 1:48Yeah. You know it definitely.
- 1:50It's like a flim wall. You brought something back from
- 1:52Canada, apparently. Something I I caught the speedy
- 1:55he. Wants to go burn a Bush in a
- 1:56crab. Oh, something I don't.
- 1:58Think they have crabs in Canada? I don't know anyways not.
- 2:01Stopping you from. Doing it?
- 2:02No, you haven't. Anyways, ladies and gentlemen,
- 2:04we call this Jabber Rule History.
- 2:07In the making. You ready?
- 2:10Rules, rules, rules that we we've covered in this and I
- 2:16haven't got my Nebraska in yet, but we're going to get Nebraska
- 2:20basketball in on this Java rules.
- 2:23By the way, we are 18 and O we are, we have won our last 22
- 2:30games, the longest in college basketball right now.
- 2:36We are the highest ranking that we've ever had at this
- 2:39university at #7 before that it was 1966 that we were ranked #8
- 2:50We're going to have a little bit of an uphill climb here coming
- 2:52in a few weeks. But what rules is Nebraska Ball
- 2:57rules because we are in the top ten and nobody had ever thought
- 3:02Nebraska would be a basketball school.
- 3:06And I stand on Nebraska and I always will.
- 3:09And now I have something to root for because our football team
- 3:12has let me down for a lot of years.
- 3:15Go. Share a Pew Tang pie with the.
- 3:24Rock You guys. Watch our team play.
- 3:25Yes, I've been watching. I I've seen a few this year not
- 3:29not as much as I usually watch college basketball.
- 3:31I haven't watched as much this year but I I saw in the recent
- 3:35bracketology you guys were a three seed.
- 3:37Yeah, some of us, they have us in one in the Midwest.
- 3:43We got a tough, we got a tough stretch.
- 3:45We got Washington tomorrow and then we go Michigan, Illinois or
- 3:51we go Minnesota on the road, which Minnesota's record isn't
- 3:54great, but they've been in games with Michigan.
- 3:58They were ahead of Michigan and then we got Michigan at home,
- 4:02then we got to play Illinois at our our place.
- 4:08Then we got Rutgers, which that'll be a dub.
- 4:12And then we've got Purdue. So it's it's going to be it's
- 4:15going to be a stretch, but we have never won.
- 4:20And like I said in what's your call?
- 4:23And you know I'm going to get a booty lick because we've never
- 4:26won. I never heard of a skin flute.
- 4:30And it's, it's going to happen, and I love it.
- 4:34And one of Carter's buddies probably won't win freshman of
- 4:38the year, but he's going to be a freshman All American #5 Braden
- 4:41Frager. So if you guys watch a game,
- 4:44watch him. No.
- 4:46And so, yeah, he hooped with Carter.
- 4:48And so it's fun. So we're vested.
- 4:50And it's cool to see when you don't expect a program like
- 4:55that. And it's always nice.
- 4:57I wouldn't say Cinderella because Fred Hoiberg is done
- 5:00with Iowa State. Wasn't the best with the Bulls.
- 5:03I'll give him that. Wasn't that?
- 5:05Wasn't great in the tournament too.
- 5:07I know I picked them a lot and with Iowa saves or not.
- 5:12So yeah, So what? We're the only school that's
- 5:14never won a game in March Madness.
- 5:18Wow. And like I said, it is
- 5:19documented. It's going to happen.
- 5:22Speaking of happened ESP NS Jeff.
- 5:26Pisson. Jeff Passan reports that the
- 5:29Dodgers have signed Kyle Tucker to a four year, $240 million
- 5:34deal. The deal includes $30 million in
- 5:36deferred money, opts out after opt outs after Year 2 and Year 3
- 5:43and has an average annual value of 57.1 million per year,
- 5:48breaking Mr. Juan Sotos record of 51 million per year.
- 5:54The Dodgers also gave Tucker a signing bonus of 64,000,000 and
- 5:59a $54 million. Fifty, $4 million of that will
- 6:04be paid up front. ESP NS Kylie McDaniel reports
- 6:10that the Blue Jays offered him a 11 year, $418 million deal, and
- 6:14we're the only team that offered him a deal more than five years.
- 6:18McDaniel adds that the Mets were willing to sign Tucker for $50
- 6:24million per year, but many baseball executives never
- 6:27believed that Tucker wanted to play in New York.
- 6:31Well, here's the facts guys. This is a catastrophe.
- 6:37It's bad. And I know Jabba is going to be
- 6:40behind it and argue this, that, hey, you know what?
- 6:43Actually, this way you finish, but you're going to, you're
- 6:46going to be surprised with what I tell you.
- 6:49The deferred money thing needs to change.
- 6:51This is ruined the game of baseball.
- 6:53It really has. And as much as a lot of people
- 6:56say, well, guess what, it's been in baseball for a long time, I
- 7:00believe the Dodgers have perfected it.
- 7:02I think the Dodgers have figured out a way to use this to their
- 7:06advantage to hurt everybody else but themselves.
- 7:10And I think that you look at this Tucker move and there's a
- 7:13lot of questions to it. And they had a lot of
- 7:16deficiencies out of the out in the outfield, a lot of
- 7:18weaknesses. Now they don't.
- 7:19They had one of the best power hitters at in the outfield.
- 7:22Now in Kyle Tucker, who can defend.
- 7:24He can play multiple positions out there.
- 7:27Not the best defender, but a guy that can absolutely defend at
- 7:31that position. I, I think to me, when you look
- 7:35at Edwin Diaz and all the, the, the offseason moves, you wonder
- 7:39if baseball needs to step in. I don't know if there's going to
- 7:42be a salary cap. I, I do believe there is going
- 7:44to be a baseball strike. I think the owners are going to
- 7:46step in and do something about this.
- 7:48I think the Dodgers have put themselves in a position where
- 7:51they can win another title and obviously right off into the
- 7:55sunset when they does go on strike, after this year, when
- 7:59the strike is going to allow the league to decide if they're
- 8:03going to continue playing or are they going to sit out for a
- 8:05significant amount of time. I I think this hurts baseball.
- 8:09I do. And the fact is, is that he
- 8:11didn't want to go to New York. He didn't want to deal with the
- 8:13New York press, the media. He's a quiet guy.
- 8:15He played for the Astros. He went to the Cubs.
- 8:17Even though the Cubs are a loud organization, they're not as bad
- 8:20of a media place than New York. And the Blue Jays are just not a
- 8:27very good organization. I know what they did last year.
- 8:29I know a lot of people think, oh, they're making moves now.
- 8:32And they signed their big time bopper.
- 8:35They gave him that extension. That really will settle, settle
- 8:39in as we watch it, as it gets heavier and in the next 5 to 6
- 8:43years and put them in a drought of just absolute turbulence.
- 8:48The the Blue Jays had the chance to win and they failed.
- 8:51They were never getting a Tucker.
- 8:53They were never. It was either the Yankees step
- 8:56in and offer him a boatload of money because the Yankees, I
- 8:58think he would have bought into it because it is the Yankees.
- 9:01It's pinstripes. Or was the Dodgers.
- 9:04I, I, I was surprised that he didn't choose the Mets.
- 9:08But let's be honest, the Mets are a stupid organization, a
- 9:11losing organization hasn't won since 1986.
- 9:14Why would he go to an organization that fails to get
- 9:17the right players and everything that they've done so far?
- 9:20If you look, if you were, if you were Tucker right now and you
- 9:22watch the moves that the Mets made and you look at Polanco
- 9:25moving the first base who's never played that position
- 9:27before in in his life, does that bode well for the New York Mets
- 9:31going into a season? The answer would be no.
- 9:33Kyle Tucker had no interest. I guess I thought Kyle Tucker
- 9:36was going to the Mets. It made a lot of sense. 50
- 9:39something, $1,000,000. He was going to get a lot of
- 9:41money and the Mets were going to give him what he wanted it.
- 9:43It was never going to happen. So my take on the Kyle Tucker
- 9:47thing, because we have the Beau Bouchette thing after you guys,
- 9:49your, your take is this is a catastrophe for the league.
- 9:53The league needs to do something during the strike time.
- 9:57They need to step in and figure out how to control this deferred
- 9:59money. I wrote an article article about
- 10:01this job. I sent it to you.
- 10:03I sent it to a lot of guys. I think baseball needs to look
- 10:07at what I kind of like put and implemented in when I was in
- 10:10Montreal and look at it that way for it to help the game and
- 10:15define the understanding what deferred money can or shouldn't
- 10:18do for a team. Yeah, it's interesting because I
- 10:21thought for once Bregman was signing with the Cubs.
- 10:23I always thought, I always thought Cubs were going to get
- 10:25Tucker back anyway, but I thought even more incentive for
- 10:28them to try to be creative and get either more deferred money
- 10:31or like the daughters did an extra signing bonus, stuff like
- 10:33that. There's ways to manipulate
- 10:34contracts that maybe you don't realize just because of the
- 10:37payroll discrepancies. Just because MLB doesn't have a
- 10:39salary cap, you're looking at the NFL.
- 10:41How can we manipulate the cap? We joke about with the Saints
- 10:43all the time. They've been manipulating the
- 10:45cap for 10 years now. They're in debt.
- 10:46And the the the Cubs, I thought had a good leeway to do that.
- 10:50And the Blue Jays, because of the way that they could defer
- 10:53money. And you saw the Blue Jays do
- 10:55with Cease and it looked like there was finally a direction to
- 10:58go in. And then all of a sudden we go
- 10:59back to this now. And all of a sudden the Dodgers
- 11:00are just taking back over where, yeah, maybe there's a spawning
- 11:04point where there has to be some restrictions with how either how
- 11:07much you can defer, how many players can be deferred at this
- 11:10point. Because as long as there's no
- 11:12salary cap, I don't think you're going to have that rule
- 11:15completely taken away because there's enough guys already
- 11:18dealing with it. But there has to be restrictions
- 11:20on it. The Dodgers, maybe because they
- 11:22already have six or seven guys on it, can't do it for another
- 11:25five years. They're going to be doing this
- 11:26favour. Yeah, and that's where it's
- 11:28tricky. Like what?
- 11:29What rule makes sense to be fair to both parties?
- 11:32What rule makes? Sense we will never see another
- 11:34World Series champion if this continues to be allowed to be
- 11:37going on in baseball. The Dodgers are always going to
- 11:40be in the driving seat to get whoever and whatever they want
- 11:43because what they're doing is they have talked to these
- 11:46players. These players understand what
- 11:48they're trying to do and how they're doing it.
- 11:50And it's it's working because they've got everybody buying
- 11:53into it. A whole organization needs to
- 11:56buy into this for the to work. It's not working.
- 11:59Everybody says, well, all the other organizations could do it.
- 12:01Not necessarily when all the other players are not buying
- 12:04into it. They're buying into it.
- 12:06They had Mookie Betts, they had Friedman, they have all these
- 12:09guys, Ohtani. Everybody's buying into this
- 12:12move, Snell, everybody because they have a chance.
- 12:15Hey, listen, you're still going to get your money, You're still
- 12:16going to win, still have a chance to do it in the bright
- 12:19lights of LA and you're still going to get the money at the
- 12:22tail end of your career anyway. So you guys are going to be
- 12:24laughing all the way to the bank and making all the endorsements
- 12:27because we're going to be winning.
- 12:28And Tucker's case is different I think because 60 million I think
- 12:31was above any worth expectations of the market value of how long
- 12:35it took him sign too. And Tucker is another one, like
- 12:38a lot of the other guys besides Freeman, who was obviously
- 12:40traded over there, weren't ring chasing at that time because
- 12:43Otani obviously never played in the playoffs.
- 12:44And all the other guys were Japanese comb overs.
- 12:47And Tucker signed this one for the money, I think, exclusively
- 12:51and all the signing bonuses and all that stuff, but still going
- 12:54to the Dodgers. He was getting more with the
- 12:56Blue Jays. He signed.
- 12:58He signed for winning a championship wins.
- 13:01That's all he signed for and he knows he's going to get money
- 13:04one way or another. He can opt out of it after his
- 13:07second or third year if he doesn't want to be there, he's
- 13:09not getting enough playing time or they're treating him like
- 13:11crap. He can opt out and he still
- 13:13gets, you know, a boatload of money right up front.
- 13:16He is living at large and the and and the Dodgers could do
- 13:19this because they have, you know, finagled money to, you
- 13:24know, hideaway for the next 12 years.
- 13:26Thank you to Otani and and all the other doofuses.
- 13:29So I, I just, it hurts baseball. I don't care what anybody says,
- 13:33it hurts baseball. And the reason I say it's about
- 13:35because I just think the market value is that much higher.
- 13:37I think the Blue Jays was probably slightly above the
- 13:39market value. The total money obviously was
- 13:41more before 18, but with the AAV, that's a lot.
- 13:45All right, Java, you're up. Fire away at the deferred money.
- 13:48I took a step back, honestly, and I really tried to look at
- 13:53what the game is as it stands. And I sat on this for a minute
- 14:01and I've thought about what you guys have said, Ariel,
- 14:03especially where I'm kind of I'm in a rock and a hard place,
- 14:11honestly. And if I'm being perfectly
- 14:14honest, where I understand what they're doing.
- 14:17And you're chasing championships.
- 14:19I I I get that. And at the end of the day, what
- 14:22do you want to you? You want to have a legacy of
- 14:24winning. Yeah, you can have a lot of
- 14:27money in your bank account, but that only goes so far.
- 14:30If you truly love this game, what do you want to do?
- 14:32You want to win. And so why in between a rock and
- 14:37a hard spot is because when it comes down to winning, where do
- 14:43you want to go? That's an easy answer.
- 14:47Are they hurting the game, the aspect of what they do?
- 14:50Yeah. They're paying two guys more
- 14:53money than 10 whole organizations.
- 14:58They're paying $186.5 million in luxury tax.
- 15:02Can we can we kind of change that?
- 15:05We've kind of seen it in the past with the Marlins when they
- 15:08weren't paying any money. And then they they had that year
- 15:10where they signed Burley and Jose Reyes.
- 15:13And we've seen how that worked. But they were just doing it
- 15:16because they were kind of their hand was forced to do it.
- 15:20But I think what this does, and I don't think you're wrong,
- 15:23Errol, I think this is pushing towards a lockout because what
- 15:28are you really doing? Like if everybody's just going
- 15:32to go there and take all the deferred money?
- 15:36I don't think deferred money is wrong.
- 15:39But Speedy, I think you, you kind of touched on it a little
- 15:41bit where it's like, OK, you can have five, you can have 4,
- 15:45whatever that number is. I don't know what the magical
- 15:52potion is of figuring this out. It's the.
- 15:54Same thing we talked about with the colleges, like how much you
- 15:57defer to 1 program versus the other.
- 16:00Right. And so for me, it's like, do you
- 16:03have a salary cap or do you have a salary floor?
- 16:07Like how how do you defer those things in what they do?
- 16:13And I'm a baseball to and through with everything.
- 16:20And is Kyle Tucker a $60 million player?
- 16:23I said this, he's not. But I'll never fault to do for
- 16:26taking his money and get the bag and and take it all the way to
- 16:30the bank. But when you're an outside guy
- 16:34just looking at it and it's like, oh, they're just doing
- 16:37this. They're paying to.
- 16:39And that's truly genuine. They are.
- 16:42But you also want to have that legacy of winning and being a
- 16:45part of something special. But I think it is really hurting
- 16:50the game in the way the game is perceived now because we're
- 16:55trying to create a younger audience.
- 16:57And it's it's solely devoted now to money.
- 17:01Where I think the caveat for me, where baseball is pure, you play
- 17:07it because you love it and you have those guys.
- 17:11You look at the air and judges of the world took less money
- 17:14when he could have got more money.
- 17:17And that's where the part of it it's like I always I, I want
- 17:21everybody to make as much money as they can take care of their
- 17:23family, take care of their grandkids long time.
- 17:27But what it takes away from what my love is for this game is the
- 17:34authenticity of it. And for me it's it's it's
- 17:38starting to be taken away. And I don't like that.
- 17:43I don't like the fact that I'm like, holy crap, this lineup is
- 17:51the best lineup we've ever seen. I mean, we can talk Murderers
- 17:55Row. We can talk all kinds of
- 17:57lineups. But when you look at what these
- 18:00guys are in their value of what they could be for each
- 18:03individual team, and I know people are going to argue that
- 18:06they didn't want to give Freddie a six year deal.
- 18:08They didn't want to, you know, pay Mookie.
- 18:10He left Boston and like we can give all these exams well.
- 18:13Freeman Freeman, The Braves got robbed because their agent
- 18:17didn't tell him the Braves offer.
- 18:19I think Freddie said he would have matched it if they gave him
- 18:21the same offer. Yeah.
- 18:23And but they're doing things that everybody obviously says
- 18:27that everybody can do. And yes, it's been going on a
- 18:29long time. But you said it, Errol.
- 18:33It's like they found the perfect way to do it and created like we
- 18:39creating video games when we were kids.
- 18:41You create a dynasty. They're a video game right now.
- 18:47They're a damn video game. That is what it is.
- 18:51And it's I, I feel like, and I've never thought I would say
- 18:55this, I feel like it's taking away the integrity of the game.
- 19:01And I hate that because I love the parody.
- 19:04I love dark horses, I love the Cinderella story, I love all
- 19:09that stuff. But it's hard to combat that
- 19:12when you see a dynasty lineup and you've got multiple MVPS,
- 19:20quite possibly the best player in the world that we've ever
- 19:22seen, and they're all on one team.
- 19:27So for me as a player, I go against that.
- 19:30It's like, what the hell am I supposed to do?
- 19:34And I think it it it they need to find a way to combat this.
- 19:38I think speedy, I think that might be a thing.
- 19:41I think it's going to be a lock up.
- 19:43Do I think we lose the entire 27 season?
- 19:46I hope not. But if they don't find a way to
- 19:50be like, OK, you can defer money.
- 19:53You obviously can't backtrack now.
- 19:55You can't like, so whatever it is, but OK, if so, the Dodgers
- 20:00are at that limit. OK, you can't defer any more
- 20:02money. OK, now this team.
- 20:04So is it 4? Is it 5?
- 20:07Or is there a certain money amount to?
- 20:10Or yeah. And like we've talked about with
- 20:12with college and, and how we do that.
- 20:15And I was sitting here and just reading stories and I was just
- 20:21kind of shaking my head because never thought I would feel this
- 20:25way because I love what baseball is at its at its soul and at its
- 20:32heart. But I think it's changing and
- 20:36the integrity of the game has changed.
- 20:38And now it it's it's solely focused on different things than
- 20:44what this game should be focused on.
- 20:48And that hurts my heart a little bit because I love this game
- 20:51near and dear, you know, and it provides every day I get to walk
- 20:56my son. And it's Kyle Tucker's a great
- 20:59player. All these guys are great players
- 21:02getting this money. How long is it going to take?
- 21:05Paul Skeens gets a free agency. Paul Skeens is a billion dollar
- 21:09player. If we're basing it on right now,
- 21:13because these guys, Kyle Tucker's getting $60 million,
- 21:18essentially. Otani's getting 70, which I will
- 21:22agree, Otani probably should get more than everybody because he
- 21:25does two things that nobody else does.
- 21:29But when you have all of these deferred and we've seen
- 21:32Bregman's contract, Bregman's was a little bit deferred, but
- 21:37the integrity of the game has changed because the way that
- 21:41they can do things. I just think it's going to be an
- 21:45argument when it comes to the next CBA of how do we maintain
- 21:53the integrity of the game where we don't have shit to talk about
- 21:58during baseball? Because it's like, all right, I
- 22:00know the game's not played on paper, and I've said that
- 22:02before, but realistically, if we're going right now, who the
- 22:07Hell's beating the Dodgers? Like.
- 22:09Nobody who it is they're. Training staff, I will say this
- 22:12and I. Themselves, that's the only
- 22:14thing that's going to beat them is somebody they them getting
- 22:17hurt. Speaking of a team that got
- 22:18screwed is the Mets and they signed Beau Bichette to a
- 22:22three-year, $126 million deal with a player option for a year
- 22:26one and year 2, no deferred money and an average annual of
- 22:3042,000,000 per year. Reports say that the Phillies
- 22:33were ready to give Bob Pichette A7 year $200 million deal and
- 22:37Dave Dabrowski was blindsided by the Mets and made a panic move
- 22:43to steal him. Both the Dodgers and the Mets
- 22:47are are over the luxury tax threshold and the Mets payroll
- 22:52is 414 million and the Dodgers are 571,000,000, meaning that
- 22:58the Mets would have to pay $95 million in penalties and the
- 23:02Dodgers would have to pay 120 million in penalties.
- 23:06Here's what I'm going to say quickly about this.
- 23:09I don't know what the Mets organization is doing.
- 23:11I don't know what David Stearns is doing.
- 23:13I I have no idea if, if you're a Mets fan, you cannot be happy
- 23:17with this contract. This guy, Beau Bichette, who
- 23:19can't stay healthy, is making more money than average Judge,
- 23:23who is arguably the best player in the league right now.
- 23:25Think about that. This man is making more than
- 23:28Aaron Judge and Aaron Judge was. How many MVPS has he won?
- 23:32I mean, this guy's never won and MVP, he's never done anything.
- 23:35And as good as his father was and as good as he is in some
- 23:39parts of his game, this guy does not deserve 42,000,000 a year.
- 23:43Now, I'm not going to question the money that he's getting.
- 23:45I'm not going to question any of that.
- 23:47The Mets brought in not one, not 2, not 3, but four infielders
- 23:52this offseason and they're going to move two of them to the
- 23:55outfield. One of them never played one
- 23:57position in the infield. And Polanco at first.
- 24:00What is David Stearns doing? What is it going to take for
- 24:05Met, the Mets organization and Uncle Stevie to realize that
- 24:09this guy is a screw up? He is.
- 24:11He doesn't have a game plan. He's just bringing in players
- 24:14that makes sense. And if he, if he hits, he's
- 24:17going to be a genius. If he misses, he should be
- 24:19fired. But because he's a butt buddy,
- 24:21if Dave, Uncle Stevie, he's going to keep his job.
- 24:24This is a bad, bad thing. Met fans.
- 24:27You cannot sit here and tell me Beau Bichette is a slam dunk.
- 24:30He can't stay healthy. He's an overpriced, overpaid
- 24:34infielder who is now going to be moved to the outfield to which
- 24:37he's never played before in his career.
- 24:39It makes no sense. It's an absolute joke.
- 24:42And the Mets should be really being smacked.
- 24:45They should be smacked in the face because they failed to get
- 24:47Tucker so they reached on Beau Bichette.
- 24:49Yeah, we even heard it last week from Laura Albany.
- 24:52She was like, oh, the Mets have 900 outfield infielders and only
- 24:55two outfielders. 2 outfielders. But she was sticking up for them
- 24:58because she's a writer and she's a beat.
- 25:00OK, but she did mention that the extremity is a big difference
- 25:03where you haven't signed. Besides Devin Williams, any
- 25:06other like pictures of any notoriety in this offseason?
- 25:09Even Devin Williams is coming off a bad year.
- 25:11You got all these infielders. 2 guys are not going to be playing
- 25:14out of place, whether it's Bichette, which is probably
- 25:16going to be him out of place playing third, or Bob Bouchette
- 25:19experiments in the outfit. I know Java, you did mention
- 25:21that maybe it works, but again, you're banking $42 million on
- 25:24that. Yeah.
- 25:25Dave Dombrowski, I hate to praise him 'cause I don't think
- 25:27he's great either, but he's right in this sense.
- 25:29Like, why can't? Why wouldn't the Mets let the
- 25:32Phillies, who've already paid a lot in their own infield as it
- 25:34is, give Bichette 7 years, 200 million when they have Trey
- 25:37Turner, a bunch of other guys in these big contracts when the
- 25:40Mets could get two? I'm not saying amazing pitchers,
- 25:43but two decent starting pitchers at 20 and 25,000,000 a year.
- 25:47It just doesn't make any sense. And you're going to hope that
- 25:49these guys can pitch for strikeouts because their infield
- 25:51defense is not. Going to be horrible, horrible
- 25:54move for the New York Mets. They're going.
- 25:57To I think, I think it's you said panic move or whatever.
- 26:01And then Dave came out and said we're good with what we are
- 26:04right now. I think it was it was weird on
- 26:09on a lot of levels for me. The consistency factor that he's
- 26:14going to make more than Francisco Lindor doesn't really
- 26:18make sense to me because he hasn't been on the field enough
- 26:21to prove. And then now he's going to go
- 26:23out of position because he came out and that that's part of the
- 26:26reason because he knew he wasn't going to get the money playing
- 26:29the position. That's why he said I'm open to
- 26:32playing second base wherever. Hopefully.
- 26:37And for you as the Mets fan, Speedy, I'm sorry, but you're
- 26:41not going to get your value in what he is because he has not
- 26:44proven it. He came out at the right time.
- 26:47Timing is a lot of things. We've looked, we've seen a lot
- 26:49of guys do this. Have a great year.
- 26:51Carbovano from the Twins to the Yankees, getting the $45 million
- 26:55deal, like he was not great, but he had a, he had a great out
- 26:59year. And that's what if you have a
- 27:01great out year and, and your crowd is low because it was
- 27:05outfielders and you had Bregman and then as Bichette and then it
- 27:09was pitchers. So you, you are a different
- 27:12commodity. And if and if you think about
- 27:15stocks and trading, well, if you're a hot commodity that
- 27:19there's nothing else going in, you're going to get that is, is
- 27:23he, is he worth 42,000,000? No.
- 27:27And I don't talk. I'm not talking trash that he's
- 27:29not a great player because he is.
- 27:32He's in the big leagues, but he's not 42.
- 27:35I'll say the same thing by Kyle Tucker.
- 27:37He's not 60. Do they deserve to get paid?
- 27:40Yes. Are there a lot of guys that
- 27:41should get paid that amount that are way better that aren't
- 27:44getting paid that? Yes.
- 27:46Java, think about this. I know you like this guy, so I
- 27:49know you would want the Mets to pay him.
- 27:50Framber Valdez, you pay him 30 something million a year and
- 27:53then you pay Zach Gallanter saying on a down year, maybe 20
- 27:55million a year, you get 2. Good punchers.
- 27:58The same thing under score is like give me, give me those
- 28:01postseason stats, give me that. Like that contract was probably
- 28:05the best one that's came out this offseason for me personally
- 28:10because you get what he is. He's going to give you 150
- 28:13innings, 200's, not the marketing one that used to be.
- 28:16He's going to give you estimated 154 this year.
- 28:19He's going to win you double figure games, but he's going to
- 28:22be a beast in the playoffs. That was a great signing for me.
- 28:26Bullshit is not a great signing for me because you don't know
- 28:29what you're going to get. Is he going to be hurt?
- 28:32Is he going to play? You got to be on the field.
- 28:34He's getting 42, new position, new team, new dynamic, new
- 28:39clubhouse. Is he going to try and step in?
- 28:41Because now you've demolished that clubhouse and all you have
- 28:46is Frankie and Soda. You went from one of the old,
- 28:50one of the youngest teams to now one of the middle age teams in
- 28:53league. You brought Polanco in, he's
- 28:55what, 33 years old? You brought in a, a second
- 28:58baseman who's 36. I, I think you're reaching I, I,
- 29:02I think the Mets are reaching I I and I.
- 29:05Reaching the understatement. I don't know what's going on if.
- 29:09I Speedy, speedy if if they were going to get this deal, you as a
- 29:13Mets fan and as smart as you are, if they were going to take
- 29:18this and obviously giving him like what realistically, like
- 29:23everything's off the table, what would have been the number for
- 29:26you? He's young enough, so definitely
- 29:2935. I think it would have worked.
- 29:31I don't think I would have done more than that.
- 29:33He's 27, still more. Yeah, maybe still 30 million.
- 29:38Yeah, again, that's. It I have a problem more with
- 29:41the process. Obviously the money is bad.
- 29:44It's really bad. I have a problem more with the
- 29:46process though because why don't you do that earlier in the
- 29:48offseason before you trade for Simeon?
- 29:50Because now, like you're saying, the Simeon's defense, which is
- 29:54good at second Java is going to be wasted if Bichette has to
- 29:57move to second, because then he has to move to 3rd and then
- 29:59Pelagos are playing. First Simeon that literally
- 30:02didn't miss a game for five years, right?
- 30:04I like to. Trade for Simeon that's he
- 30:07hasn't ever led the league in hits like Bichette did.
- 30:09Understand that, but what I don't get is now if you're
- 30:16committed to what the process is and obviously he got opt outs,
- 30:21he's like now OK, I'm 27 and you brought that up speedy.
- 30:26It's like OK, 30 to 35, that's where that's where I would have
- 30:29been OK with. You said 35.
- 30:31I would have been OK with 35. I would have probably preferred
- 30:33like 32, but yeah. But now it's like, OK, now if I
- 30:37go ball out, I'm 27. I'll play the whole year at 28.
- 30:42Now it's like, all right, the Mets suck ass.
- 30:47I led the league in hits. I hit 280 with 25 a showed I can
- 30:51play a position. Now he go gets another bag and
- 30:54he's out. So realistically you're talking
- 30:57about renting a player. Did you gave him that
- 31:00opportunity to rent him? David Sterns, guys.
- 31:05David Sterns. And like I said, Jabba for maybe
- 31:075 to 5 to $6 million more, you could have gotten Valdez and
- 31:11Gallons. It's it's a joke, you know,
- 31:13there's not much more to. See, you need pitching, I know.
- 31:16And, and, and here's the thing, they're going to have to dig
- 31:18deep for Tarik school because he's going to be available next
- 31:22year. But there are going to be teams
- 31:23lining up for this guy for about $500 million.
- 31:27And now the Mets. I, I don't know how much money
- 31:29is, is this guy going to dig into his pockets for this man
- 31:32just to solidify the pitching staff.
- 31:34Their pitching staff is, is young and to me, not ready for
- 31:39this season. When you're putting all their
- 31:40eggs in a basket of guys that have never played and playing
- 31:44out of positions, it makes no sense.
- 31:46It David Stern should be fired for this.
- 31:48And I'm going to tell you this right now.
- 31:50If he's not on the hot seat, hot seat going into the season, I
- 31:53don't know what who is. This man should absolutely be in
- 31:57the hot seat for making a move like this and trying to sell
- 32:00this to Cohen. And if Cohen's going to sit here
- 32:02and make it seem like, oh, we got a batting champion, this guy
- 32:05can't stay healthy. This guy hasn't proven anything
- 32:08for $42 million and for three years and he can opt out.
- 32:13Makes no sense. Absolute debacle.
- 32:15Terrible move for the New York Mets, reaching after losing out
- 32:19on Tucker. That's all I'm going to say
- 32:20about this. This is just, it's pathetic,
- 32:23pathetic. They're a stupid organization
- 32:25that's making more mistakes. And no Mets fan should make
- 32:27excuses for David Stearns. And yes, ladies and gentlemen,
- 32:31I'm speaking to you, Josh. I'm speaking to you.
- 32:33You better not make an excuse for this.
- 32:35This is a bad freaking move. A bad one.
- 32:39And, and for you to sell this to me.
- 32:41Oh, it's not my money. It's not my money.
- 32:43I don't give a crap whose money it is.
- 32:45This is your team. This is a team that you're
- 32:47rooting for. And you're going to set your
- 32:48team back because you're reaching on this garbage.
- 32:51Reaching. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 32:55a final segment of the night we call this.
- 32:58What's That smell? Hold up, what is that smell?
- 33:02What's that? Smell.
- 33:08Wow, you don't see that everyday.
- 33:10All right, ladies and gentlemen, what's that smell with no fish?
- 33:16This is going to be interesting. All right, so we're going to go
- 33:19first with Tommy Speedy. You know what?
- 33:24I'll go 3rd and Jabba last. How's that one?
- 33:28How about that one? All right, let's do it that.
- 33:31One All right, so for my what's that smell?
- 33:34I'm going to be going to the divisional round.
- 33:36I know we talked about the divisional games a little bit
- 33:39earlier, but I'm going to be focusing on really the only good
- 33:41game of the divisional round being the Bills.
- 33:44And well, I wouldn't say the only game, the most exciting
- 33:46game being the Bills and Broncos.
- 33:47Basically, if you guys have been living under a rock or not
- 33:49following the playoffs, you would already know that.
- 33:52We've mentioned this as well, that Patrick Mahomes, the man
- 33:55who has made the last five out of the six Super Bowls, didn't
- 33:57even make the playoffs. So for whatever reason, watching
- 34:02the Bills game, we have Tony Romo over here calling Josh
- 34:05Allen multiple times, Patrick Mahomes.
- 34:07Now, I thought it was kind of funny because, hey, I mean, I
- 34:10understand the fact that could be a mistake.
- 34:12You know, Tony Romo was on CBS. They call a lot of CBS games.
- 34:16The Chiefs play on CBS a lot, and like I said, they're making
- 34:18the goddamn playoffs every single year for the last six
- 34:21years, So actually in the last 10 years, so it makes sense.
- 34:24Tony Romo's been really the guy on CBS, but I found it
- 34:28absolutely hilarious that it doesn't.
- 34:29I don't know if it's that he it was actually a mistake or he
- 34:32misses him, but we can't escape. We can't seem to escape Patrick
- 34:36Mahomes out of the postseason. So what does that smell like?
- 34:40It smells genuinely like the molted garbage doughnut that
- 34:46Tony Romo and it looks like Josh Allen are going to have in their
- 34:49career when it comes to Super Bowl rings.
- 34:52So there we go. All right, I saw this on
- 34:55Facebook, actually, courtesy of a guy that used to be on our
- 34:58network, Errol, one of our fantasy guys, Bo, who we did a
- 35:01fantasy show with us. OK, Yeah, I saw it on his
- 35:04Facebook because he has the he has a hot sauce company big time
- 35:07flavor. So how's he doing?
- 35:10Doing a lot of fantasy stuff I've seen I've seen recently and
- 35:12he's I see his food stuff all the time.
- 35:14If you want a good food, food social media site like he cooks
- 35:18all tons of great things. But yeah, he's doing well.
- 35:20A big good fantasy community. If we got to check out his
- 35:22stuff. I haven't checked in with Scott,
- 35:25though. Scott who has a daughter as
- 35:27well. He's doing some I haven't heard
- 35:29touch of him in a while, but I saw this on Bose Facebook
- 35:32because he obviously he called himself the king of spice.
- 35:34So the Rams, with cayenne pepper powder, tried to warm up their
- 35:41socks and their cleats inside of it.
- 35:44I'm like, what? I've read this.
- 35:45I'm like, this is the perfect thing for what's that spell?
- 35:47Because you already deal with athlete's foot as it is when
- 35:50you're on a football field. And then you're going to put in
- 35:52these really spicy. It's a really spicy pepper,
- 35:54cayenne. And he was fifth or sixth among
- 35:57Peppers that grow in the US or whatever.
- 35:59And you're going to put that in your sweaty feet and socks and
- 36:03all that stuff. So I'm like, yeah, this is
- 36:04perfect for this segment. And the Rams try to do it to
- 36:06keep them warm in the snow during the snow game against the
- 36:10Bears. So what does that smell like?
- 36:11Well, we're going to bring back a memory of a goodie trying to
- 36:15have a Carolina Reaper. So it smells like that combined
- 36:18with the ice cream that and the milk that he tried to eat.
- 36:20And if a bear were to digest that, what would it come out as?
- 36:24That's what it smells like. Wow.
- 36:27Before you go real quick, Carol, I just wanted to say since you
- 36:29guys got off the Mets, the Mets are actually training for Luis
- 36:32Robert Mets. I'm sorry, White Sox outfielder
- 36:36so. Yeah, they've been after him for
- 36:37two years. That's not surprising.
- 36:38Yeah, just saw it pop up. Just mention that.
- 36:41But yeah, go ahead. Jumping for joy, great move.
- 36:44Yeah, two years on a downturn. After the game, Anthony Edwards
- 36:48admitted that the Timberwolves are often don't listen to the
- 36:52game plan. Most of the time we don't listen
- 36:55to the game plan. When we listen to it and
- 36:58execute, we're pretty good, Edwards said.
- 37:01When asked why it's so, so damn hard to do this consistently,
- 37:06Edwards replied. I don't know.
- 37:08We're hard headed. We want to make the game harder,
- 37:12but we just listen tonight and and it works.
- 37:17Oh my God, what is why is Anthony Edwards speaking?
- 37:21Why is this guy speaking? Every time this guy speaks, he
- 37:25makes him look, he makes himself look stupider and he makes his
- 37:29team actually dysfunctional. It doesn't make any sense.
- 37:33And, and I love the guy. I think he's a great player and
- 37:36he's sensational as we heard what he did on that stupid
- 37:40Netflix show when he when Obama was talking to him and and they
- 37:45were asking, I forget who was asking.
- 37:47I think it was one of the big guys.
- 37:49He asked me, what do you think of what do you think of Anthony
- 37:52Edwards? He says he's good.
- 37:53He says good. I'm the truth, you know, and and
- 37:56and and when it was asked if if he's going to.
- 37:58Be the face. Yeah, and when he said he was,
- 38:01he was all about being the face of people are asking who's going
- 38:04to be the face of USA Basketball.
- 38:06Everybody knows it's Anthony Edwards.
- 38:08When everybody starts to retire, he says, yeah, I don't want it.
- 38:11I have no interest in doing it As as we all know, this man does
- 38:15not know how to zipper his mouth and he makes himself look dumb.
- 38:18He makes his organization look dumb.
- 38:20When is it going? What is it going to take for
- 38:22this organization to just part ways with him?
- 38:24John Moran's going. It seems like Giannis is going
- 38:27not because of that, but I I I just don't know how much time
- 38:31this organization is going to spend listening to this idiot
- 38:35speak out and tell people that they're not following the game
- 38:38plan. It's embarrassing to come out
- 38:41there and throw his coach under the bus.
- 38:43You know what it smells like? Smells like that owl eating that
- 38:46Tootsie roll pop. Shove it up his ass and takes a
- 38:48fart. That's what I say. 1A2 Who?
- 38:51A three. He and it goes to take the
- 38:55Tootsie roll pop. Yeah, it goes Anthony Edwards
- 38:58asshole. What an ass.
- 39:01Jesus. I'm going to go for the college
- 39:05football Chris Fowler because he he's been under a little bit of
- 39:09scrutiny in these last few weeks.
- 39:11He, he literally comes on and he says, oh, a blowout in the first
- 39:18half between Indiana and they're up 10 to nothing and nothing has
- 39:22happened in the game. He pronounced you, you brought
- 39:26up Romo when he's pronouncing names wrong.
- 39:28Fowler did the same thing like 2 weeks prior.
- 39:31Like back-to-back weeks. I know he's been in the game for
- 39:35a while, but is, is he getting too old to to keep up with the
- 39:40game because 10 nothing in the national championship game is
- 39:43not a blowout. Don't understand where he was
- 39:46coming from. And it smells like he has to use
- 39:51that little hook to put his socks on because he can't bend
- 39:53over and his older eaters aren't working.
- 39:58Are there any Siam Peppers in those socks?
- 40:00Java. He might need to try those the.
- 40:03Gross sexual action of cream on somebody's face.
- 40:06You might need to try them. I love the personalities that we
- 40:09bring on the show. I just love how the flow of the
- 40:12show has been working and it's been great.
- 40:14It's been such a success for all the transitions and and all the
- 40:20different stories that we get into.
- 40:21So and we give the best takes. I don't care what anybody says.
- 40:24Our takes are as good as anybody's and we go outside of
- 40:27the box. I'm sure nobody says the things.
- 40:30I mean, did anybody say, did anybody bring up McDermott going
- 40:34to The Jets? Did anybody even think to do
- 40:36that? I mean, Jets, The Jets haven't
- 40:38even thought to do that because they're dumb organization.
- 40:41So I, I just think our takes are fresh, new and interesting.
- 40:46And I think people that haven't listened to the show or has
- 40:50heard of the show should be listening to it.
- 40:52Understand that we are the best. And I will put this show against
- 40:55anybody and I'll, I'll, I'll take that to the grave.
- 40:58And when when it goes, when it comes to and when it goes to an
- 41:01opportunity and comes to an opportunity in the future, you
