- 4:16Speaker 2: Couple of them ones that I posted up early this morning,
- 4:19Speaker 2: the story on the Montpelier man arrested after pulling out
- 4:22Speaker 2: a gun during a road rage incident. We have both
- 4:26Speaker 2: supporters and critics of Vermont's clean heat standard that are
- 4:31Speaker 2: going to be speaking at the State House today. Also
- 4:34Speaker 2: have that story posted up this morning about the Vermont
- 4:37Speaker 2: woman who faces charges for allegedly impezzling thousands of dollars
- 4:42Speaker 2: from the Westfield Fire District. The national headlines that I'm
- 4:47Speaker 2: following on tier Ontario temporarily suspending their planned twenty five
- 4:54Speaker 2: percent surcharge on electricity exported to the US after President
- 4:59Speaker 2: Donald tr Trump vowed to raise Canadian steel and aluminum
- 5:04Speaker 2: import tariffs to fifty percent before of course, reversing course
- 5:10Speaker 2: last night. I'm not sure if you were following that story.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Posted it up a little bit on Facebook, and wow,
- 5:17Speaker 2: a lot of comments about that. Ukraine accepted a US
- 5:21Speaker 2: proposed thirty day ceasefire deal yesterday amid negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
- 5:27Speaker 2: In world headlines this morning, that one is up as well.
- 5:31Speaker 2: There's a lot of stuff going on, no question about it,
- 5:35Speaker 2: both here in Vermont and across the nation and the
- 5:38Speaker 2: world for that matter. Our guest in the Business Spotlight
- 5:42Speaker 2: this morning, Washington County Mental Health's new Communications and development
- 5:48Speaker 2: director Kim Eid and recruiter Dan Eriko, Good morning, and
- 5:53Speaker 2: welcome you both. I'm so glad you're in here. Welcome guys.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Thanks, thanks, yeah, thank you, thanks for having Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And now you've you've been in here before, Dan, Am
- 6:03Speaker 2: I right?
- 6:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I was. I was in your old space. It
- 6:06Speaker 3: came with another cride, Mozelle, who has Yeah, Mozelle has
- 6:10Speaker 3: moved on to a different agency down in Massachusetts. We
- 6:13Speaker 3: miss her, but it's come with Kim today. So I'm
- 6:16Speaker 3: very excited to see the new space. Talk a little
- 6:18Speaker 3: about Washington County Mental Health and yeah, positions we have opened.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Now you you've just met Kim, not long ago, a
- 6:24Speaker 2: couple of months ago.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yep, Kim just started a couple months ago. We've been
- 6:26Speaker 3: working together on a few things, which has been fun.
- 6:28Speaker 3: It's fun to have some would help, you know, get
- 6:31Speaker 3: the word out there of all the good stuff we do.
- 6:33Speaker 2: What an introduction, Kim? Huh?
- 6:35Speaker 4: I know, I feel How am I going to live
- 6:37Speaker 4: up to that?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Man? I've been hearing a lot about you from from
- 6:41Speaker 2: Heather Slayton, who kind of I think she's always kind
- 6:47Speaker 2: of going to be the communications lady for Washington County.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Dan's nodding his head, Yes, she knows the ins and outs. Yeah. Yeah,
- 6:58Speaker 2: it's just in her, it's or blood, it's just who
- 7:01Speaker 2: she is.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Yeah, she's great.
- 7:03Speaker 2: So you've had obviously a chance to get to know
- 7:06Speaker 2: some staff members, Heather among them. Absolutely, what's your story
- 7:12Speaker 2: where Obviously we're going to talk about what you do
- 7:17Speaker 2: day to day, but where are you from? You've been here,
- 7:20Speaker 2: You've been at this post for two and a half months. Yeah, okay.
- 7:24Speaker 5: I have spent most of my career doing organizational development
- 7:29Speaker 5: for a global nonprofit, educational institutions and activist organizations. I
- 7:36Speaker 5: moved to Vermont in the early two thousands after grad school,
- 7:40Speaker 5: and I fell in love with the community and the people.
- 7:45Speaker 5: And when I saw the position for Washington County Mental Health,
- 7:49Speaker 5: I thought this would be an interesting new challenge and
- 7:52Speaker 5: it would give me an opportunity to dig into the community.
- 7:56Speaker 5: Like I said, I was working for a global nonprofit,
- 7:58Speaker 5: which was great, and it definitely took me away from
- 8:03Speaker 5: the focus of what's happening here in Vermont.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Sure. Interesting, you know there there's some staff members and Dan,
- 8:11Speaker 2: you certainly know this. You've you've been with Washington Counting
- 8:14Speaker 2: now for what nine years?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Nine nine years here in this fall, it'll be nine years. Yep.
- 8:20Speaker 2: There's some staff members that are that really take this,
- 8:26Speaker 2: uh this this I can't say job, but job as
- 8:30Speaker 2: as a career and embody it as like part of
- 8:35Speaker 2: who they are and they live this and they love
- 8:38Speaker 2: this and and there's no surprise why they've been doing
- 8:41Speaker 2: it so long.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I mean I talk to people all the time,
- 8:45Speaker 3: people joining the agency, and they ask, you know what
- 8:47Speaker 3: the longevy is? And I tell stories of like Phil Wells,
- 8:49Speaker 3: who has been with the agency for forty plus years.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Thousands of years. Ye look at look at.
- 8:55Speaker 3: The Guide's true. It's true, no one, no one knows
- 8:58Speaker 3: the exact start date, but he's been here forever.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 3: A lot of folks Children's Division have been with the
- 9:03Speaker 3: ANCHIE following time, and across the entire division. I mean
- 9:05Speaker 3: I can go gaming people with such a large agency
- 9:09Speaker 3: that we have people that have been here a long time.
- 9:11Speaker 3: They love it, it is it is their life. They
- 9:13Speaker 3: love helping people and doing the work. I think I'm
- 9:16Speaker 3: starting to fall into that category too. You are, I'm
- 9:18Speaker 3: betting close to the decade mark, So I guess I'm
- 9:22Speaker 3: one of them as well. I've been with the agency
- 9:24Speaker 3: for nine years, started a bunch of different positions with
- 9:26Speaker 3: the agency, from the from the children's division, working one
- 9:28Speaker 3: on one with kiddos in our residential homes for a
- 9:30Speaker 3: few years, to being a supervisor of some of those homes,
- 9:33Speaker 3: and now for the past you know, several years, I've
- 9:35Speaker 3: gotten to bring people aboard, which has been super exciting
- 9:38Speaker 3: and tell the stories of what we do.
- 9:39Speaker 2: As a recruiter. Yeah, you've you've lived it, you've done it,
- 9:44Speaker 2: You've you've had your finger in it. I think that's fantastic,
- 9:46Speaker 2: It really is. You were going to say something, Kim,
- 9:49Speaker 2: I could see that.
- 9:50Speaker 5: I just think that a lot of the people that
- 9:52Speaker 5: I've met since in the last two months have demonstrated
- 9:56Speaker 5: a huge commitment to building this community and supporting the
- 10:01Speaker 5: people in the community that are the most vulnerable. And
- 10:04Speaker 5: to see folks spend their time, their life, their education
- 10:09Speaker 5: focused on supporting other people is inspiring.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah. There's also been some employees like Heather who have
- 10:21Speaker 2: essentially kind of just pioneered a vision that they've had
- 10:25Speaker 2: where they're like, you know what, we need to do this,
- 10:29Speaker 2: and by God, we're going to do it. And Wellness
- 10:33Speaker 2: Wednesday is kind of a perfect example of that. What
- 10:39Speaker 2: do you guys, I mean, I know a lot about
- 10:41Speaker 2: wellness Wednesday. I'm sure you do, but what do you
- 10:44Speaker 2: know so far? I mean, this is something that's done
- 10:46Speaker 2: the first three Wednesdays of every month.
- 10:48Speaker 5: And there's still chair massages open for tonight, so sign
- 10:54Speaker 5: up and reiki offerings and alternative ways of regulating systems
- 11:01Speaker 5: so people can come in from the community for free
- 11:05Speaker 5: generally and get opportunities to chill out and relax their
- 11:11Speaker 5: bodies and their minds and in turn help support their
- 11:15Speaker 5: whole wellness. So it's an amazing offering, an opportunity, and
- 11:20Speaker 5: it would encourage all the community members to come out
- 11:22Speaker 5: and check it out.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And it's a great opportunity for these practitioners to say, yeah,
- 11:28Speaker 2: this is what I'm an expert with, this is what
- 11:31Speaker 2: I do, and if you want to build a relationship
- 11:34Speaker 2: and you want to continue to do this, here's my card,
- 11:37Speaker 2: let's make some appointments.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I've taken advantage of it. I've done the massages,
- 11:42Speaker 3: I the year acupuncture I've done.
- 11:44Speaker 2: That's an interesting I did too.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that was cool.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Bail them.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it was cool. It was it was different, but
- 11:51Speaker 3: having yeah, the community, come in. I mean all the
- 11:53Speaker 3: things you mentioned started the show with what's going on
- 11:55Speaker 3: in the world seems like a crazy time. So if
- 11:57Speaker 3: you just want to come in, you know, get some
- 11:59Speaker 3: quiet time, shout out of a little bit. It is
- 12:01Speaker 3: a nice time. We don't get to do that too
- 12:02Speaker 3: much now.
- 12:03Speaker 2: It is now. When you say shut off, you mean
- 12:05Speaker 2: shut off, shut the phone off.
- 12:07Speaker 3: You can shut the phone off, you can take a nap,
- 12:09Speaker 3: you could shut.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Off, yes a little bit and quie in there and
- 12:12Speaker 2: like you were saying, Kim, leave the wallet at home.
- 12:14Speaker 2: You know, this is this is all free stuff, you know,
- 12:16Speaker 2: just just Commit's open to anybody. Commit. Make an appointment
- 12:20Speaker 2: for the Sweetish massage and the I think the the
- 12:26Speaker 2: acupuncture and the meditation. That's just kind of walk in.
- 12:31Speaker 2: But if you want a massage or the myofacial release
- 12:35Speaker 2: or the or the reiche or anything, ye call ahead
- 12:38Speaker 2: four seven nine four zero five five. Robbin's the one
- 12:41Speaker 2: that answers the phone great.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Late and it's a good opportunity to introduce it to
- 12:46Speaker 5: your kids too, So don't don't leave them at home,
- 12:50Speaker 5: because this is a way to introduce young people to
- 12:54Speaker 5: different ways of calming their bodies calming their minds and
- 12:58Speaker 5: it's an easy walk.
- 13:01Speaker 2: The first three Wednesdays of every month, so that's tonight tonight.
- 13:06Speaker 2: It starts at four point thirty goes till seven o'clock. Yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 2: just take advantage of this, I mean really, just do it.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Come in, have a cup of hot tea and chill
- 13:17Speaker 2: out for a little while. It's free.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and if you don't want to take advantage of
- 13:21Speaker 3: some of the things there now come just say hello
- 13:23Speaker 3: to some people, see what's going on. And again it's
- 13:28Speaker 3: very frequent, so if you want to come back next
- 13:30Speaker 3: time and actually partake in some of the practitioners, that's great.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I love talking about wellness Wednesday.
- 13:36Speaker 4: And there's not a lack of need in the community.
- 13:38Speaker 5: I mean, like Dan was saying, like the world is
- 13:41Speaker 5: a little upside down and we're all navigating it in
- 13:44Speaker 5: different ways. And you know what an amazing offering that
- 13:48Speaker 5: this agency has.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it really is. You know, if if you want
- 13:54Speaker 2: to just you know, and a lot of us were
- 13:56Speaker 2: like I'd love to I would love to meditate. I
- 14:00Speaker 2: don't know how you come here. You'll be showing how
- 14:03Speaker 2: to do that, which is which is fantastic.
- 14:06Speaker 3: It's a learned skill. So it's something that sometimes needs
- 14:08Speaker 3: some guidance on sure, and so it is something and
- 14:11Speaker 3: just have someone guy helpful.
- 14:13Speaker 2: I'll never forget the first time I went to Well
- 14:15Speaker 2: on this Wednesday, went in there with a with a
- 14:17Speaker 2: blasting migrain and you know, I meet Balen and I'm like,
- 14:22Speaker 2: a man, it's the first time I had met you know, Balen,
- 14:25Speaker 2: I haven't. I'm like, biling, man, I've just been hit
- 14:31Speaker 2: by a truck. There's nothing that's as my eyes were
- 14:35Speaker 2: barely open. He's like, well, hang on a second, let
- 14:37Speaker 2: me just up and he's clipping this stuff onto my
- 14:40Speaker 2: ear and ten minutes gone. I'm like, was that you?
- 14:47Speaker 2: And he's like, well, I'm telling you. I mean this
- 14:50Speaker 2: is someone who really believes hidneys craft really does works. Yeah, absolutely,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you Kim. You were just men sing children and how
- 15:01Speaker 2: important that is. Let's talk about the kids a little
- 15:04Speaker 2: bit and Washington County Mental Health On Thursdays, we have
- 15:10Speaker 2: this Steering Committee the third Thursday every month. What is
- 15:15Speaker 2: this about?
- 15:17Speaker 5: The Steering Committee welcomes folks to come in and talk
- 15:21Speaker 5: about what the need is of the community and see
- 15:24Speaker 5: how we can support them together and get the feedback
- 15:28Speaker 5: from the larger community.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think it's something that we we've recently
- 15:33Speaker 3: started to pick back up. Have you come in, have
- 15:37Speaker 3: folks come in and talk about what's going on, what
- 15:39Speaker 3: we can do with the kato's, and what work needs
- 15:42Speaker 3: to be done.
- 15:43Speaker 2: So so, if your your child has some unique needs,
- 15:50Speaker 2: whether it's in the home, at school, what have you,
- 15:56Speaker 2: it's an opportunity for you to get together with other
- 15:59Speaker 2: parents who maybe paddling on the same river.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Getting the same waters. I think they're the kiddos. I say,
- 16:08Speaker 3: the kiddo division is our biggest division when it comes
- 16:11Speaker 3: to the staff we employ. So there is a great
- 16:15Speaker 3: need out there, and like Kim said, introduction to some
- 16:19Speaker 3: of the regulation and different things early is helpful for kiddos.
- 16:23Speaker 3: That's where I started, That's where my passion with the
- 16:25Speaker 3: agency began with you know, kids four to four to twelve. Yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 3: I think I learned a lot of skills at twenty
- 16:31Speaker 3: two working with those kiddos that have carried me, learning
- 16:34Speaker 3: from them and helping them navigate their their life and
- 16:37Speaker 3: their struggles.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Get some some critical information and ask all of the questions,
- 16:44Speaker 2: no matter what they are, because a lot of times
- 16:48Speaker 2: you know, we don't. We don't always get the answers
- 16:50Speaker 2: that we need from the school or what have you.
- 16:53Speaker 4: And as as a parent with a kid that.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Is highly highly functioning, she still has unique individual needs
- 17:01Speaker 5: and if there were community resources available for her to
- 17:04Speaker 5: meet her needs, I would absolutely walk in and want
- 17:08Speaker 5: my voice heard in how to move the needle forward
- 17:12Speaker 5: to support her and all the kids ultimately.
- 17:16Speaker 2: So this is one Thursday out of the month. It's
- 17:20Speaker 2: the third Thursday, and it starts at five o'clock, goes
- 17:23Speaker 2: till six thirty and Washington County Mental Health even throws
- 17:27Speaker 2: in dinner. That's amazing, am wow, pretty good.
- 17:31Speaker 4: What are we serving to next?
- 17:33Speaker 2: You know, I don't. I don't know. But here's the
- 17:35Speaker 2: other thing. This isn't like something that's brand new. This
- 17:38Speaker 2: has been going on for a while.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think we've been doing We've been doing
- 17:42Speaker 3: this since I can remember. I know it takes some
- 17:44Speaker 3: lolls at times.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yes, there's been a couple of little hiatuses.
- 17:47Speaker 3: But yeah, but what doesn't have a hiatis? But yeah,
- 17:51Speaker 3: this Yeah, picking me back up, I think it's a
- 17:53Speaker 3: great resource. Anytime we can get more involved in the community.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I think it's something like you said, people have piloted
- 17:59Speaker 3: in one to do, so.
- 18:00Speaker 2: We do it. I'm gonna give you the phone number
- 18:03Speaker 2: again if if you want some some information on this,
- 18:07Speaker 2: it's four seven nine four zero five five four seven
- 18:10Speaker 2: nine four zero five five. It is absolutely free again,
- 18:17Speaker 2: there's another freebie. And and you know, if if you're
- 18:20Speaker 2: a parent and you're coming with some kids who are young,
- 18:26Speaker 2: they need to be with you. You don't have a babysit
- 18:28Speaker 2: or whatever. Heather opens up the snoozelan room.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, which the room is great. It hasn't if
- 18:35Speaker 3: anyone hasn't seen it, especially after the flood and everything
- 18:40Speaker 3: has been fixed.
- 18:40Speaker 2: It's great.
- 18:41Speaker 3: I took kittos there all the time when I when
- 18:44Speaker 3: I work for the residentials, I I have friends friends
- 18:49Speaker 3: who's kiddos have ASD and yeah, work work with work
- 18:56Speaker 3: with the sensory. So I've opened the resource to them
- 18:59Speaker 3: and explained to them that it's there, and they've taken
- 19:00Speaker 3: advantage of it and they love it. And even the
- 19:02Speaker 3: wellness Wednesdays, I mean, when it's open, I'll jump in there.
- 19:04Speaker 3: It's just quiet, it's a cool.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's amazing.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Obviously been in their kits, Yes, I have been in
- 19:10Speaker 5: there and it's amazing and just a sneak peek.
- 19:13Speaker 4: I don't know if I'm going to get in trouble
- 19:14Speaker 4: for saying this.
- 19:16Speaker 5: There will be a grand opening of the room again,
- 19:20Speaker 5: so the event will be posted on our socials and
- 19:24Speaker 5: JDU two will have that information as soon as we
- 19:27Speaker 5: have the date for that grand opening.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I love the Snoozelan Room. Yeah, so I won't we
- 19:34Speaker 2: won't say grand opening anymore.
- 19:36Speaker 5: No, No, it's a it's a new refresher well from
- 19:41Speaker 5: the flood, right, and it was I mean, my god,
- 19:44Speaker 5: the work that was done over there. Yep, there's been
- 19:46Speaker 5: a lot of work that's been done, and that space
- 19:49Speaker 5: is just so cool.
- 19:50Speaker 4: There's the hyperbolic chamber, is that right?
- 19:53Speaker 3: That's yeah, that's.
- 19:54Speaker 5: New as well in that space. And then the DULA
- 19:57Speaker 5: program is also in the well Well space as well,
- 20:01Speaker 5: which is such a great gift for folks that are
- 20:05Speaker 5: prenatal to be able to get support.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Through their pregnancy.
- 20:10Speaker 5: So we're really lucky to have all of the amazing
- 20:14Speaker 5: programming that happens out of that space, in particular.
- 20:17Speaker 2: As Autism Puzzle Foundation. I remember when they were like,
- 20:21Speaker 2: we have to bring this, we have to create this
- 20:23Speaker 2: room here. This has to be in our community.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Can I tell you have another event that's happening.
- 20:29Speaker 2: That's why you're here.
- 20:30Speaker 5: Great In June, Penny is putting out the Pera Palooza.
- 20:37Speaker 5: It is a peer based conference. So if you are
- 20:43Speaker 5: part of an organization that uses peers to help educate
- 20:47Speaker 5: and support folks, you can do a presentation at peer
- 20:51Speaker 5: a Palooza and just contact Penny Martin.
- 20:54Speaker 4: And I will make sure to get that information.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Sunrise Sunrise, Yeah, over on Berry Street in Mound pill Or.
- 21:00Speaker 2: What a great place.
- 21:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Wow. See the sandwiches they can put out in there,
- 21:06Speaker 2: in the pies.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Oh here, there's cookies too.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Oh. Everything. They do such a great job over there,
- 21:13Speaker 2: they really do. I want to talk about Treatment Associates
- 21:18Speaker 2: here just a little bit. Amber Thompson, great lady who
- 21:22Speaker 2: was working so hard, and this was a huge announcement
- 21:26Speaker 2: not too long ago too, that Washington County Mental Health
- 21:29Speaker 2: was teaming up with Treatment Associates.
- 21:32Speaker 5: Yeah, they're offering substance use disorder support and.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Intakes happen at the well Space.
- 21:38Speaker 5: There's multiple other spaces around the community that folks can
- 21:42Speaker 5: go and do drop ins and get the support they need.
- 21:45Speaker 5: There's counseling groups available for folks and it's a great collaboration.
- 21:52Speaker 4: It started before I got here.
- 21:54Speaker 5: But it hasn't been around that long as far as
- 21:57Speaker 5: the collaboration between treatment associates and Washington County.
- 22:01Speaker 4: But we are growing together now and.
- 22:03Speaker 2: It's now right at the well Space building on Summer Street,
- 22:08Speaker 2: twenty three Summer Street. How wonderful is that? And it
- 22:12Speaker 2: combined with the Phoenix Recovery Group. Barry's a powerhouse man.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Washington County Mental Health is a powerhouse for this kind
- 22:21Speaker 2: of stuff.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Trying to do a lot going on. There's a lot
- 22:25Speaker 4: of need out there.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, at of need. We try to provide it
- 22:28Speaker 3: and been around, come watch Camon Health's been around coming
- 22:31Speaker 3: on sixty years.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Yeah, sixty years.
- 22:33Speaker 3: We've had a lot of time to develop a lot
- 22:35Speaker 3: of things. And sure you said it earlier. We try
- 22:38Speaker 3: to do what we can when people want to do it.
- 22:40Speaker 2: So the Phoenix Group and again I'll give you the
- 22:45Speaker 2: phone number if you need more information, but they meet
- 22:47Speaker 2: on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings again right over at
- 22:52Speaker 2: the well Space building used to be over at the
- 22:55Speaker 2: People's Health and Wellness clinic.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I think, I think so.
- 22:58Speaker 2: But now they've moved, which is so great, so great.
- 23:01Speaker 5: The other interesting fun thing coming up against secret Squirrel
- 23:05Speaker 5: information special for you is that the Community Developmental Development
- 23:12Speaker 5: Services Building is being renovated and is going to be
- 23:17Speaker 5: even more accessible and there will be yet another grand
- 23:21Speaker 5: opening celebration of that space to support folks with developmental
- 23:26Speaker 5: disabilities as well.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Can you tell us anymore.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Where it's on grand View Drive?
- 23:33Speaker 1: Oh?
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, grand View Building.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it if you're familiar, I mean Bury area,
- 23:39Speaker 3: kind of cross street from the Granite Museum. Yeah, off
- 23:41Speaker 3: for interesting road all the way up to the very
- 23:42Speaker 3: tippy top through the residence neighborhood. And it's up there.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Looks fantastic elevator and everything. Elevator and new bathrooms. I'm excited.
- 23:51Speaker 3: I haven't got a chance to pop inside, only the outside, but.
- 23:54Speaker 4: You'll be invited to the grand opening to be there.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll be there, so it'll be exciting.
- 23:58Speaker 2: It's going to be amazing. I've seen a little bit,
- 24:02Speaker 2: but the last time I sip there snooping around, I
- 24:04Speaker 2: got kicked out of there.
- 24:06Speaker 5: You know, I think what I've noticed about Washington County
- 24:09Speaker 5: mental health services. Is that really trying to support folks
- 24:13Speaker 5: in being their best selves and being independent with you know,
- 24:17Speaker 5: folks with mental health issues, with developmental disabilities, whatever, whatever.
- 24:24Speaker 4: You come in with.
- 24:25Speaker 5: The folks at the agency are trying to help support
- 24:29Speaker 5: both independence and self determination. So that's been really inspiring
- 24:34Speaker 5: to see.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Person centered care totally. Yeah, yeah, no kidding. Uh. And
- 24:41Speaker 2: there's so many Uh, there's so many different tentacles that
- 24:45Speaker 2: come down off of so many different programs. It's it's
- 24:48Speaker 2: amazing friends helping friends. I mean, uh, the list, the
- 24:52Speaker 2: list goes on.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Yeah, there's the to get into the kind of the
- 24:57Speaker 3: work I do bring people aboard the and some of
- 25:00Speaker 3: the events again, was talking about I'll be up at
- 25:03Speaker 3: Norwich University next week for a job fair. Was at
- 25:06Speaker 3: UVM a couple of weeks ago, kind of talking with
- 25:09Speaker 3: college students, but to open the community as well. So
- 25:12Speaker 3: if you're interested in coming to say hi, we'll be
- 25:14Speaker 3: over it in the Armory, Norwich University on next Thursday
- 25:19Speaker 3: three twenty to talk about some of the positions we have.
- 25:22Speaker 3: But we have so so many different programs things going on.
- 25:25Speaker 3: If you want to get involved and want to be
- 25:27Speaker 3: a part of the agency. Feel free to check out
- 25:31Speaker 3: the career page that we have, or you can reach
- 25:34Speaker 3: out to me directly. I tell the college students the
- 25:36Speaker 3: same thing. Our website's got a lot going on. It
- 25:39Speaker 3: can be a little overwhelming because we do so many things,
- 25:42Speaker 3: and even today we've barely touched on all the things
- 25:45Speaker 3: we do. I know, so if we could be here
- 25:48Speaker 3: all day, and we don't want to take up your
- 25:49Speaker 3: whole day, But if people want to talk about some
- 25:52Speaker 3: things they're interested in getting involved with, please reach out
- 25:55Speaker 3: to us because I'm always happy to talk about that.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I want you to throw your number out here in
- 25:59Speaker 2: a second, but it's w C m HS dot org
- 26:03Speaker 2: slash careers.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Correct, correct, and you can reach out to me. My
- 26:08Speaker 3: email is Dan dot Erico E R R I c
- 26:12Speaker 3: O at w C m HS dot org. Or my
- 26:16Speaker 3: trusty cell phone is always on me eight oh two
- 26:19Speaker 3: five two two eight three five five. Feel free to
- 26:23Speaker 3: reach out there too.
- 26:23Speaker 2: And there's like literally something for for everybody. But you
- 26:27Speaker 2: were you were saying earlier, the Children's Youth and Family Division, Uh,
- 26:32Speaker 2: the career opportunities there are.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Ye are wealthy, Yeah, we have, we have throughout so
- 26:38Speaker 3: folks don't know, we have six ish major divisions. Hey,
- 26:42Speaker 3: I say when I'm talking about the agency, from our
- 26:45Speaker 3: Developmental Services division that Kim was talking about with new
- 26:48Speaker 3: opening at grand View, from Children's divisions, Youth and Family services,
- 26:53Speaker 3: from all the way from daycare age kiddos to twenty
- 26:56Speaker 3: two ish. We have our Center for Counsel Psychological Services
- 27:01Speaker 3: the CCPs. That's a lot of outpatient therapy services. It's
- 27:05Speaker 3: up at the building up by the hospital. We also
- 27:07Speaker 3: have how our ICs are Intensive care services, which is
- 27:10Speaker 3: a lot of emergency services. Are screeners who do great work.
- 27:15Speaker 3: And then we have a few different, few different Community
- 27:20Speaker 3: Sport program which is folks that work with folks who
- 27:23Speaker 3: have severe and persistent mental health concerns. You can work
- 27:27Speaker 3: there too, And we have all different types of schedules
- 27:30Speaker 3: and schedules and compensation and part time and full time
- 27:35Speaker 3: and volunteer work. We just do so much and if
- 27:38Speaker 3: you want to get involved and want to help, we
- 27:40Speaker 3: really really try to find a space where you feel
- 27:42Speaker 3: like you'll be successful.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Residential community development to direct direct services, a.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Bunch of direct service folks, a bunch of and if
- 27:51Speaker 3: you want to work with a certain certain population, a
- 27:52Speaker 3: certain client or consumers. We have a bunch, We do
- 27:58Speaker 3: a bunch of work throughout the entire our community and
- 28:00Speaker 3: their stuff. I'm sure that I don't even know that
- 28:02Speaker 3: we do that. I'll figure it out for you.
- 28:04Speaker 2: From from older folks to adolescents, little kids, everything, everyone's
- 28:08Speaker 2: we all have a unique story. And Choice Academy too.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Choice is great. Yeah. Choice Academy is grade. That's
- 28:14Speaker 3: our licensed middle school and high school. They have openings
- 28:17Speaker 3: right now where kiddos that are not traditionally successful in
- 28:21Speaker 3: traditional school will come and graduate from us and go
- 28:23Speaker 3: on to do great things after that. So it is
- 28:26Speaker 3: our that's our middle school and high school. We work
- 28:27Speaker 3: in the public schools. Yeah, we have our residential programs
- 28:30Speaker 3: with the Children's Division, and we have a bunch of
- 28:32Speaker 3: a few other programs within Children's division that also do stuff.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 5: So Dan, do you think that it's a good opportunity
- 28:41Speaker 5: for folks that are just starting out in their careers
- 28:44Speaker 5: to find something as well as folks that are trying
- 28:47Speaker 5: to shift into maybe a different avenue of work.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Yep.
- 28:53Speaker 5: And then also like folks that have, you like, specifically
- 28:57Speaker 5: trained skills, like nursing skills, there's position for those folks too.
- 29:01Speaker 5: So yes, like yes, it literally is offering opportunities for everybody,
- 29:07Speaker 5: like almost out of high school, depending on the person, Yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 5: through well into their careers.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yeah, there's there, there's anyone in any any stage of
- 29:17Speaker 3: their career. I'd encourage if you're interested in the work
- 29:20Speaker 3: to either reach out or poke around our website. I
- 29:23Speaker 3: jumped in right after college. I did some of the
- 29:25Speaker 3: work with a Howard Center program, which is another Desney
- 29:28Speaker 3: agency up in Chittnam County. But and I ended up
- 29:31Speaker 3: in this this area and work for Washington County. But
- 29:34Speaker 3: there's from if you ran out of high school through
- 29:38Speaker 3: people that want to make career change. We saw a
- 29:40Speaker 3: lot of folks in COVID kind of re evaluate with
- 29:42Speaker 3: their their value level is for what they want to
- 29:46Speaker 3: do for work. That's a lot of people jump aboard
- 29:48Speaker 3: Washington County And if you if you want to help people,
- 29:52Speaker 3: I mean it's it's yeah, it's one of the one
- 29:55Speaker 3: of the the values of what we do. Telling people
- 29:58Speaker 3: that people center work community based mental health has been
- 30:04Speaker 3: it has been something that we we strive for every day.
- 30:06Speaker 2: So and and and keep keep folks, you know, fostering
- 30:11Speaker 2: a great relationship with them, but also allowing them to
- 30:16Speaker 2: flourish in their in their community and be the best
- 30:19Speaker 2: you said it earlier, just be the best, the best
- 30:22Speaker 2: individual that they can their Yeah, help them with with
- 30:26Speaker 2: stabilizing their lives, introducing some some real wellness to them,
- 30:33Speaker 2: giving them an opportunity to to be more interactive with
- 30:37Speaker 2: their community and and get out and and do something
- 30:42Speaker 2: that's that's practical and frankly rewarding. Whether it's assisting them
- 30:47Speaker 2: with with their job, maybe they've got a part time
- 30:49Speaker 2: job or or whatever it may be, but just making
- 30:53Speaker 2: them happier.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Yes, and yourself good. It feel feels good to help people.
- 31:00Speaker 3: You and Vermont's you know, sense of community is huge
- 31:04Speaker 3: and that provides it. I think for all of our
- 31:07Speaker 3: clients and consumers, that's something that they strive for. They
- 31:10Speaker 3: want that sense of community and that's something I think
- 31:13Speaker 3: each of us in this room want to sense of community. Uh,
- 31:16Speaker 3: working with our local community, and that's part of the
- 31:18Speaker 3: reason I think you join the agency is in the
- 31:21Speaker 3: sense of the Vermont community and the local area. And
- 31:23Speaker 3: we're all throughout Washington County, a little bit in Orange
- 31:25Speaker 3: and them Oil. So I can say I've met lifelong
- 31:29Speaker 3: friends from working with wash Commonal Health.
- 31:31Speaker 2: And it's so residual when you when you help someone
- 31:36Speaker 2: out and its it it's so rewarding. You don't really
- 31:42Speaker 2: feel like it's a job. Often it's it's your your purpose.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Is h is so multifolt. It helps you, it helps them,
- 31:52Speaker 2: and it also helps their family, their family members, whether
- 31:56Speaker 2: it's their parents or their caregivers. You know, you're giving
- 32:00Speaker 2: someone some respite, whatever it may be. You're you're not
- 32:03Speaker 2: just helping that one person, You're helping the totality good
- 32:07Speaker 2: number of Yeah.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I have the stories of you know,
- 32:11Speaker 3: teaching a six year old to ride their bike for
- 32:12Speaker 3: the first time, the training wheels coming off, that smile,
- 32:15Speaker 3: waking working the residentials and you know, waking up on
- 32:18Speaker 3: Christmas morning and they get the present that they were
- 32:20Speaker 3: hoping was there. Those memories are burned into my head
- 32:24Speaker 3: and they're all obviously very very positive or part of
- 32:26Speaker 3: the reason I want people to join us do this
- 32:29Speaker 3: type of work is uh and being you know, the
- 32:33Speaker 3: recruiter for the agency has allowed me to expand my
- 32:36Speaker 3: knowledge of the rest of the things we do. Sure,
- 32:39Speaker 3: so I've been able to see that from you know,
- 32:41Speaker 3: whilst helping folks access their job to to just being
- 32:47Speaker 3: out in the community and maybe going to see a movie.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Just the smiles and what we can get them out,
- 32:50Speaker 3: what get folks out to do is is fantastic.
- 32:54Speaker 2: And then Kim, You've got to bring all of this
- 32:58Speaker 2: goodness to to light and show people on Instagram and
- 33:04Speaker 2: social media and Facebook everywhere.
- 33:06Speaker 5: So that's funny that you say, you know, shed some light,
- 33:10Speaker 5: because the thing that I've been saying since I started
- 33:13Speaker 5: is I feel like I'm a person with a little
- 33:15Speaker 5: flashlight and I get to shine light on all.
- 33:17Speaker 4: The good work that happens around the agency.
- 33:20Speaker 5: And I am honestly just learning about all of the
- 33:23Speaker 5: pieces that we offer. Where we've been highlighting staff and
- 33:27Speaker 5: the good work that's happening there and the jobs and
- 33:30Speaker 5: positions that we have available. But that is only going
- 33:33Speaker 5: to grow, and it's not only on the social media spaces,
- 33:37Speaker 5: but in our local news, in our local radio stations.
- 33:43Speaker 5: Making folks aware of the teacher at Choice Academy who
- 33:47Speaker 5: made that difference, or the behavior interventionists that helped that
- 33:54Speaker 5: kid tie his shoes, whatever that is.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Those are feel good stories.
- 33:58Speaker 5: That we all need because we get a lot of
- 34:02Speaker 5: negative news and there's a lot of horrible things that
- 34:06Speaker 5: go on, and I get an opportunity to show the goodness. Yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 5: and you know, you can come work with us and
- 34:14Speaker 5: I can show.
- 34:14Speaker 4: Your goodness too.
- 34:17Speaker 2: In a way, I'm glad that some of our phones
- 34:22Speaker 2: are listening to us, because we hear the words mental
- 34:27Speaker 2: health so much, so much, and it's some of it's
- 34:34Speaker 2: of what's happening of just turning your phone on in
- 34:37Speaker 2: the morning is so counterproductive. You know, we're trying to
- 34:41Speaker 2: improve our mental health, but then all you really have
- 34:43Speaker 2: to do is just scroll and it's and the reels
- 34:49Speaker 2: and everything, and you know, we find ourselves going, are
- 34:53Speaker 2: you kidding me? Right now? And then the blood pressure
- 34:56Speaker 2: starts ticking up, and we're distracted, and we're we're starting
- 35:00Speaker 2: to carry around weight that we really shouldn't be carrying around.
- 35:05Speaker 2: We should be focused on prioritizing what's really most important
- 35:09Speaker 2: in our lives and what makes us happy. Mental health is.
- 35:14Speaker 2: You know, someone was like, well, I'm going to go
- 35:16Speaker 2: up forty thousand feet to mental health, and I'm like, oh,
- 35:18Speaker 2: hell no, that's more like one hundred thousand feet maybe more.
- 35:22Speaker 5: And it's everybody's struggles like it's everywhere, like no matter.
- 35:25Speaker 5: You know, we help folks that are trying to find
- 35:29Speaker 5: tools and resources to support themselves. But everybody deals with
- 35:33Speaker 5: mental health and struggles with trying to maintain balance because
- 35:38Speaker 5: of reading backs of the world.
- 35:40Speaker 2: You know, how many times have you each heard this
- 35:44Speaker 2: winter from anyone co workers, friends, family, whatever. Oh man,
- 35:49Speaker 2: I'm done. I'm done with this winter, done with that.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I'm done with the potholes. Yeah, you know, it's just
- 35:58Speaker 2: I'm done with the clouds and cold and you.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Know, holidays and holidays, everything that goes, and I'm done.
- 36:04Speaker 3: I want the sunshine. Yeah, that's we. We we talked
- 36:07Speaker 3: about all the great work we do. We always. We
- 36:09Speaker 3: also like to say if you are struggling, JD do
- 36:12Speaker 3: great job of providing folks from your page with our
- 36:16Speaker 3: information and feel free to jump on our website. We
- 36:20Speaker 3: have the you know, the crisis hotline on there. You'll
- 36:23Speaker 3: see some of the stuff posted around around Bury in
- 36:26Speaker 3: a surrounding area is about how to reach us. But
- 36:28Speaker 3: everyone has struggles day to day, and everyone everyone, everyone
- 36:34Speaker 3: and some people. If you feel like you need some
- 36:37Speaker 3: more support, we're here sure.
- 36:40Speaker 5: And just so that number is a two two two
- 36:42Speaker 5: nine five nine one. If you are struggling anytime any day.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Twenty four to seven, you can give us a call.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Yeah, there'll be somebody to talk to you.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I also want to talk about the the Access Hub,
- 36:56Speaker 2: which is pretty amazing, open from seven am to seven
- 37:01Speaker 2: pm Monday through Thursday and eight to four on Fridays
- 37:04Speaker 2: at thirty four Berry Street the Downing Street side in Montpillier.
- 37:09Speaker 3: There.
- 37:09Speaker 2: This is something if you need some brief treatment, some
- 37:15Speaker 2: safety planning, you need some questions answered, you need assessment.
- 37:20Speaker 2: You don't really want to get up to the hospital
- 37:23Speaker 2: and get tangled up up there. Yeah, you know this
- 37:27Speaker 2: is wonderful that this one is. It's wonderful.
- 37:29Speaker 3: We have a ton of folks who who have jumped.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I don't have the most recent numbers, but we have
- 37:35Speaker 3: a ton of folks that access services there that did
- 37:37Speaker 3: not access services from us before. You just need to
- 37:41Speaker 3: be above the age eighteen to pop in. It's similar
- 37:45Speaker 3: to a mental health urgent care in terms of you
- 37:48Speaker 3: can pop in if you need to talk to someone
- 37:50Speaker 3: about something, like you said, kind of triage, what your
- 37:52Speaker 3: next steps may be, how you're feeling. There's folks there,
- 37:56Speaker 3: clinicians there that are ready to talk to you, ready
- 37:58Speaker 3: to work with you about whatever you may need. So
- 38:01Speaker 3: it's right in that same area with the Sunrise program. Yeah,
- 38:05Speaker 3: and Maple House, the peer run peer run bed and
- 38:09Speaker 3: so it's all in the same building right there, am
- 38:11Speaker 3: on Pillier. So courage folks to drop in if they
- 38:13Speaker 3: feel like you need to talk to someone. It's a
- 38:15Speaker 3: great resource. Hanmy in the group over there are fantastic.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just thinking of you know how you're You're
- 38:24Speaker 2: cruising through life. Everything is generally going okay, and then
- 38:28Speaker 2: all of a sudden it can hit the fan and
- 38:31Speaker 2: things can can get stacked up against you real real
- 38:34Speaker 2: fast to anybody, all walks of life. So to have
- 38:38Speaker 2: the access hub right there and have someone available to say, hey,
- 38:44Speaker 2: it's it's all right, let's let's figure this out. Yeah,
- 38:48Speaker 2: let's compartmentalize things and let's just take a deep breath here.
- 38:52Speaker 2: I'm gonna help you.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:54Speaker 2: And a lot of us just that's what we need
- 38:55Speaker 2: to hear, man.
- 38:56Speaker 3: For sure, I mean a lot of us, me myself.
- 39:00Speaker 3: You never know how close you are to your day
- 39:03Speaker 3: to going through that cycle of how you're feeling and
- 39:07Speaker 3: day to day we all live very hard lives. You
- 39:09Speaker 3: all have our own struggles and if there's someone there
- 39:12Speaker 3: that can, you know, help pick you up when you
- 39:13Speaker 3: fall down, or help talk you through through a process
- 39:17Speaker 3: where you may feel like you don't have total control,
- 39:20Speaker 3: that's that's what they're there for.
- 39:22Speaker 2: First responders too, you know, folks that are just.
- 39:28Speaker 5: So I was just as you said, first responders. The
- 39:32Speaker 5: Montpellier's School, High school staff, we're all certified as mental
- 39:38Speaker 5: health first aid aiders recently, so that's exciting the whole staff,
- 39:43Speaker 5: and we're doing you know, in addition to direct service,
- 39:47Speaker 5: we are doing a lot of educational work out in
- 39:49Speaker 5: the community.
- 39:50Speaker 4: There was a.
- 39:51Speaker 5: Movie this past week at sugar Bush about small mountain
- 39:58Speaker 5: towns and the the impact on mental health and suicide rates,
- 40:03Speaker 5: as well as this coming Friday at I think it's
- 40:07Speaker 5: Montpelier High School or theater I will find out for sure.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Is Ophelia Lives. It's a take on Hamlet and one
- 40:14Speaker 5: of the high school students has produced this show and
- 40:19Speaker 5: we are helping to co sponsor that too, raising awareness
- 40:22Speaker 5: about both mental health and suicide. We are going to
- 40:26Speaker 5: middle schools and sharing information about wellness and how to
- 40:29Speaker 5: support kids at a much younger age, So trying to
- 40:32Speaker 5: get infused within the communities. The messages of there are resources,
- 40:37Speaker 5: there are support, you are not alone, and there's an
- 40:40Speaker 5: educational component to what we're doing to help the community.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Yeah, we have our agency trainer, Kara. Kara is fantastic.
- 40:48Speaker 3: She was a clinician in the Choice Academy for many,
- 40:51Speaker 3: many years and she's now is training our agency on
- 40:55Speaker 3: different things, but also working with community partners on training
- 40:58Speaker 3: from mental health first aid, two different things, different things
- 41:02Speaker 3: along those lines. So if there's businesses or schools or
- 41:04Speaker 3: teachers that are interested in, you know, not getting that training,
- 41:08Speaker 3: we can we can hook you up with carriage. She
- 41:11Speaker 3: can let you know what what she can do for you.
- 41:12Speaker 2: So yeah, Kars are wicked, Go get her.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, she's great.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Back to Treatment Associates Montpellier, Morseville, and again right here
- 41:27Speaker 2: in Barry on Summer Street. What a remarkable collaboration between
- 41:34Speaker 2: Washington County Mental Health and t A. I mean they
- 41:38Speaker 2: are really doing it and trying to chip away at
- 41:42Speaker 2: substance use disorders which AREVAI. Yeah here here and fromont
- 41:50Speaker 2: and and everywhere, but in our little green Mountain state,
- 41:54Speaker 2: we've got some huge issues and they're not going to
- 41:59Speaker 2: be going away tomorrow. So to have treatment associates available
- 42:06Speaker 2: here right here in Perry for screenings, referrals, coordinating care.
- 42:12Speaker 2: I mean this is really critical stuff. Oh, in a big,
- 42:16Speaker 2: big deal.
- 42:17Speaker 5: And there's there's counseling groups that are both online and
- 42:20Speaker 5: in person. Yeah, right, to help navigate through that struggle.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Yeah, two two nine five nine one for Washington County
- 42:33Speaker 2: Mental Health to get in touch with an intake navigator
- 42:38Speaker 2: again two two nine oh five nine one. And there's
- 42:42Speaker 2: also twenty four to seven crisis and suicide lines that
- 42:47Speaker 2: are available for for anybody.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Yes, yes, we and I'm happy to bring some back
- 42:55Speaker 3: and job small here, Jay, I think you've seen them.
- 42:57Speaker 3: We have our Survivor's Guide that I like to hand
- 43:00Speaker 3: out any community event we tried to where it's got
- 43:02Speaker 3: phone numbers for the Christ's lines, but other things like
- 43:04Speaker 3: domestic violent shelters, food shelves, warming centers, it's got phone numbers,
- 43:08Speaker 3: addresses times for things like that. It's just a piece
- 43:11Speaker 3: of paper to take. We hand them out all our
- 43:13Speaker 3: job fares and a bunch of our events. So we
- 43:16Speaker 3: were happy to leave some here. But those are the
- 43:19Speaker 3: Survivor's Guide, and that's I just like to carry it
- 43:21Speaker 3: around in case you never know when you may need
- 43:23Speaker 3: to make a phone call.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'm going to put that in the comments here
- 43:27Speaker 2: for for everybody to see.
- 43:31Speaker 5: There's a link as well on our website if you
- 43:33Speaker 5: want to pull it up.
- 43:34Speaker 2: And yeah, it's it's so important. And you know, even
- 43:39Speaker 2: even if you you know, even if if you yourself
- 43:45Speaker 2: think that this isn't anything that you may personally need,
- 43:53Speaker 2: it's good to have this information. Frankly, it's great to
- 43:56Speaker 2: have the magnet on your fridge because you can have
- 44:00Speaker 2: a friend who all of a sudden finds themselves in
- 44:05Speaker 2: a really serious situation. And I said earlier, stacked up.
- 44:09Speaker 2: I mean, so many of us get things that are
- 44:11Speaker 2: stacked up against us.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we're all on a razor thin edge. I think
- 44:15Speaker 3: that's there's one one thing can happen that cascades into
- 44:19Speaker 3: a few. I just keep the number of the Christ's
- 44:22Speaker 3: number saved in my phone. Yeah, it's a good number
- 44:24Speaker 3: just to have if you ever need to send it
- 44:26Speaker 3: text to somebody and be like, hey, sh having a
- 44:27Speaker 3: hard time. Here's a phone number to call if you
- 44:28Speaker 3: don't want to talk to me about it, right. It's
- 44:31Speaker 3: just it's nice to provide people that resource and know
- 44:34Speaker 3: that there's someone out there they can talk to. Twenty
- 44:36Speaker 3: four to seven. Yeah, that isn't necessarily Sometimes people don't
- 44:39Speaker 3: like going family or friends to have those conversations. Sure
- 44:41Speaker 3: to have someone professional you can call to talk to,
- 44:44Speaker 3: or just we have business cards that have them too,
- 44:46Speaker 3: if you just want to, you know, leave it in
- 44:47Speaker 3: a mailbox. Sometimes that's that's all you need to do.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Sometimes the problem are the family and friends.
- 44:52Speaker 3: That's true too, You got to go somewhere else.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Amen, Amen, so so true. Yeah.
- 44:58Speaker 5: I was just thinking it's kind of like Greenou in
- 45:00Speaker 5: power when the lights go off, You're like, oh no,
- 45:02Speaker 5: I need to find that number, and you're looking around
- 45:04Speaker 5: for the fridge magnet or the you know, how do
- 45:07Speaker 5: we get the lights back on?
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good analogy right there. Yeah. True. And you know,
- 45:13Speaker 2: I think the thing that Washington County Mental Health pushes
- 45:17Speaker 2: above anything else is regardless of what it is that
- 45:23Speaker 2: you're going through, you're not alone, and believe it or not,
- 45:29Speaker 2: we may be able to help you and shed some
- 45:31Speaker 2: light on this and take one hour at a time
- 45:35Speaker 2: and you might be seeing the light here. Things might
- 45:40Speaker 2: be improving for you. Just give us the opportunity to
- 45:45Speaker 2: walk with you for a little while.
- 45:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I love that.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Yeah, we're here, you're not alone. Help us right here.
- 45:54Speaker 2: I want to I want to just ask you, Dan,
- 45:58Speaker 2: what are some of the the benefits to being an
- 46:02Speaker 2: employee of Washington Accounting? Mental health are endless? The health benefits,
- 46:07Speaker 2: all of that stuff. Yeah, but my god, I mean,
- 46:10Speaker 2: you know, you go into the admin building, yes, and
- 46:16Speaker 2: you got a massage chair there for you as.
- 46:18Speaker 4: Yes, and people don't use it. I have three times
- 46:22Speaker 4: I have.
- 46:23Speaker 3: It's attention out of your back. It makes you feel
- 46:26Speaker 3: a little bit better. You can't get to one this Wednesday.
- 46:28Speaker 3: But yeah, there's I can go into. We have. You know,
- 46:33Speaker 3: we've recently raised our compensation rates, so that's that's something
- 46:36Speaker 3: to take a look at. Those are all posted out
- 46:38Speaker 3: out on the internet for folks to take a look
- 46:40Speaker 3: at what they're looking for. You have our benefit package.
- 46:43Speaker 3: I'm more than happy to share that with folks. It's
- 46:46Speaker 3: a very large, thirty page package for people to look
- 46:48Speaker 3: through and see see what they're looking for. There's benefits
- 46:52Speaker 3: where if you're looking for you know a lot of
- 46:55Speaker 3: folks get out, especially in Vermont, and like doing things
- 46:57Speaker 3: in the community and getting out and not necessarily sitting
- 47:00Speaker 3: at a desk every day. We do have that. We
- 47:02Speaker 3: have the alternative schedules too, between the residentials and some
- 47:06Speaker 3: of our direct service work, where if you're looking for
- 47:08Speaker 3: a couple hours a week to do something help some
- 47:10Speaker 3: people are in a little extra cash, we have that.
- 47:12Speaker 3: If you're looking for overnight hours or weekend hours, we
- 47:15Speaker 3: have that. And we have all the full time we
- 47:16Speaker 3: have traditional you know, school or business bank hour schedules
- 47:20Speaker 3: as well. Yeah, and then the intrinsic value of we
- 47:23Speaker 3: we've talked about and helping people is something that I
- 47:27Speaker 3: still have the memories of, you know, doing first with folks,
- 47:30Speaker 3: or the smiles that come across people's faces and the
- 47:33Speaker 3: friends I make when you work through those hard times.
- 47:35Speaker 3: So that's that's what I talked about. When folks ask
- 47:38Speaker 3: me what I remember, you.
- 47:39Speaker 5: Forgot one thing, the really cool people that you get
- 47:42Speaker 5: to work with, like me and.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Dad, don't before came in that list.
- 47:48Speaker 4: Don't leave me hanging.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Geez, you know, I mean, there's there's so many great
- 47:57Speaker 2: people up there. I mean, just look at look at
- 48:00Speaker 2: Joe in the learning.
- 48:02Speaker 3: Collaborse talk about a fun person, I'm just gonna say wow. Yeah, Yeah,
- 48:10Speaker 3: Joe's great.
- 48:11Speaker 2: He's such a great guy. That's everyone.
- 48:14Speaker 3: That's one of the reasons I'm excited for going to
- 48:16Speaker 3: be to open again.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:17Speaker 3: When you walk, when I walk in there and they're
- 48:18Speaker 3: cooking something, Yeah, smells better than my walk when I
- 48:21Speaker 3: walk into my own house.
- 48:22Speaker 2: So and Brittany too, Brittany's great.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Everybody. Yeah, I'm it's it's I think it's something that
- 48:28Speaker 3: we get the benefit of. We're a very large agency
- 48:31Speaker 3: at seven hundred and seventy five different positions, one of
- 48:34Speaker 3: the largest employers in central Vermont so and we have
- 48:37Speaker 3: thirty five ish different buildings, so we have a ton
- 48:40Speaker 3: going on.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:41Speaker 3: Something that me and Kim get to do is talk
- 48:43Speaker 3: to different people from different divisions and different jobs they do,
- 48:47Speaker 3: and different clients and consumers daily with the work that
- 48:51Speaker 3: we get to do and I and that's something I
- 48:54Speaker 3: am very thankful for that I get to see and
- 48:56Speaker 3: talk with all these fun people.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:58Speaker 5: I also think something that you talked about earlier is
- 49:01Speaker 5: that I've noticed folks seeing a need, coming up with
- 49:06Speaker 5: an idea and being able to implement the idea to
- 49:09Speaker 5: support that need. So there's some innovation and creativity that
- 49:13Speaker 5: can come out of lots of different positions folks are
- 49:16Speaker 5: working in.
- 49:17Speaker 4: It's not stagnant.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Yeah right, I mean, Joe up there. Have you been
- 49:22Speaker 2: over to the learning yet?
- 49:24Speaker 3: The building hasn't been open.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Well, that's true. True they've they've been in a in
- 49:27Speaker 2: a kind of a satellite area. But once it's open,
- 49:32Speaker 2: I mean it's like it if it's a rainy, crappy day.
- 49:36Speaker 2: I mean they're in there too, and we bowling they're doing.
- 49:41Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 49:42Speaker 3: The karaoke.
- 49:44Speaker 4: I want to do karaoke. You just don't want to
- 49:46Speaker 4: be around for it.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Trace Akins or anything like that.
- 49:50Speaker 4: But I don't know who that is. That's why.
- 49:57Speaker 3: Yeah, they're there. It's there's lot of fun.
- 50:00Speaker 2: You know what I love. I love about it though,
- 50:02Speaker 2: is even if you are horrifically bad at.
- 50:05Speaker 4: Bowling, Oh I am that too.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Everyone's happy for you. They cheer you on. And I'm
- 50:11Speaker 2: not just talking about the we bowling. We go over
- 50:14Speaker 2: to you know twins, twin City lanes and games too,
- 50:17Speaker 2: and you know pizza, get the pizza in the left
- 50:21Speaker 2: hand bowling ball on the right. That's a good day,
- 50:24Speaker 2: right there, very good day.
- 50:26Speaker 4: Maybe I'd do better if I had the pizza in
- 50:27Speaker 4: one hand. Yeah, I think I think that.
- 50:30Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody's happy now. And in the field trips that
- 50:34Speaker 2: that that Joe coordinates, you know everywhere.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we did. Joe do stuff out in the community.
- 50:40Speaker 3: The children's division. I would say, they go camping and
- 50:43Speaker 3: you go to Red Sox games and different the beach
- 50:46Speaker 3: beach Maine.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna say we don't have a beach.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Well, they shoot all the way over to New Hampshire
- 50:52Speaker 2: or Maine State Park.
- 50:53Speaker 3: Yeah, they go Hampton beachs go up to Brillington Boulder Beach.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:58Speaker 3: So we do a bunch of fun stuff.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's such a great place to work at
- 51:05Speaker 2: and there's are going to apply. You never know, you
- 51:10Speaker 2: never know.
- 51:12Speaker 5: I might need a communications assistant one day.
- 51:16Speaker 2: You know. I just encourage folks to get in touch
- 51:21Speaker 2: with with Dan or or anyone in recruitment and just
- 51:25Speaker 2: hop on the website.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Yeah, the website's good. WMHS dot org backslash careers, Yeah,
- 51:32Speaker 3: we got We do a lot of stuff. So if
- 51:33Speaker 3: you have any question about any of it, don't have
- 51:34Speaker 3: to stay to reach out.

- 51:38Speaker 3: Yeah.

- 53:19Speaker 2: the first three wednesdays of every month. We are so
- 53:22Speaker 2: so blessed in our community to have that. And I'm
- 53:27Speaker 2: not sure if all the credit goes to Heather Slayton
- 53:30Speaker 2: or not for for spearheading this, but it's it's really

- 53:59Speaker 2: thanks to Washington County Mental Health for continued to be
- 54:03Speaker 2: a presenting sponsor of the Aired Out podcast for a
- 54:06Speaker 2: long time. Now, Oh, we forgot to give kudos to
- 54:09Speaker 2: Beth Zeidler.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we love Beth.
- 54:12Speaker 3: That's great.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Our new director.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Yeah, the new CEO. Beth just started back over the summer.
- 54:16Speaker 3: You see, uh, you'll see some stuff out there. She
- 54:20Speaker 3: she loves to talk to folks and she she's she's great.
- 54:25Speaker 3: That's been awesome. So she's excited with all new things
- 54:27Speaker 3: we're doing. And sure, you know, keeping this train rolling,
- 54:30Speaker 3: helping people and do what we can do.
- 54:32Speaker 2: And you know, Beth's also over rattling the cages under
- 54:36Speaker 2: the Golden Dome.
- 54:37Speaker 5: Absolutely, she is out talked to the legislators, trying to
- 54:41Speaker 5: get the support that the organization needs to keep it going.
- 54:45Speaker 2: She comes in, she's got Washington County mental Health on
- 54:50Speaker 2: her badge.
- 54:51Speaker 3: I mean, she wears it browdly.
- 54:54Speaker 2: That's that's something that's that's massive because mental health is
- 54:58Speaker 2: a crisis everywhere and we need to be doing more
- 55:02Speaker 2: here in the great state of Vermont. And we will.
- 55:05Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what we're working on.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I love it. Thank you guys so much for coming
- 55:09Speaker 2: in here and listen, let's do it again. It okay
- 55:13Speaker 2: Dan or no Dan?
- 55:14Speaker 4: All right Dan? No Dan? Kim or no Kim.
- 55:16Speaker 3: You got anytime you get there.
- 55:21Speaker 2: Seriously, anytime. I love I love talking about Washington County
- 55:24Speaker 2: Mental Health and all you do.
- 55:26Speaker 5: Obviously, I would like to bring if I come back on,
- 55:28Speaker 5: I'd like to bring somebody else on here to that
- 55:31Speaker 5: you know is kind of in the trenches with folks.
- 55:34Speaker 2: What are you saying? If?
- 55:35Speaker 4: When?
- 55:36Speaker 2: When?
- 55:37Speaker 4: When I'm back, I'm going to bring a friend, please too,
- 55:39Speaker 4: I'll bring Dan to.
