- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Welcome in everybody to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: My co-host Tristan McGonagall is here.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Tristan, what's up, man?
- 0:49SPEAKER_04: Steven, we are entering an episode of Songlessness, and we are kind of on a hot streak of songness, and I'm disappointed to see that we are indeed not going to play the song.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: We won't play the song, even though we are coming off a dub, but you know, uh, it's it's not really an expected dub.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: It's an expected dub.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: You can't really well.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's the rule of play the song.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: The song play the song is a big win, uh, especially when it comes to basketball.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: It's like a couple wins, maybe you win both in the week.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Maybe you beat, you know, number six Kansas by 29 points.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: That's what constitutes playing the song.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: This one is a win.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: I'll take it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: I I I said it earlier this year.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Any win without Warren Washington is a good win.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, uh not really play the song worthy.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I agree with you, and it's kind of been a streak of um forgetfulness, I will say.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: Uh proceed, uh, you know, uh proceeding this West Virginia game.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: Um, not ones that I would really like to talk about.
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: I don't know about you.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, no, I mean we've already been accused of uh you know being too negative.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know me, you and me, just you're negative people.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: It's what we do.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: People say, bro, enough already.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: We're already depressed.
- 2:10SPEAKER_04: Your rhetoric does nothing but bring us down.
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: You obviously don't even like the school.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, please stop talking about the teams because you clearly don't even enjoy them.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, clearly.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, after after a miserable loss on the road against UCF, a even more miserable loss at home to the dreaded Texas Longhorns, and then a 20-4 start to the West Virginia team that is 14th, which is last in the Big 12.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think we had a little bit of a right to be upset with the team's performance.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: I would say that's fair, but others would say that's not fair, as you seem to have um gotten to a spat.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: Oh, some friends on Twitter?
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: There's a few spats.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Come on, man.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Get it together.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Uh no, I mean it's always X today.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: It's always the burners.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: Should go and X me.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: I just X me, bro.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: X X at me.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Uh no, it's not learning.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: Continue.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: The burner, no, no, yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Uh the burners come out when um I mean, it's the easiest thing in the world to do.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: So, you know, you you live tweet during a game, you say something that may not be true, was true at the time, may not be true at the end of the game, and then you know, people respond and act like you just said it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's it's my favorite thing because people are dumb.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Are you spreading misinformation, Steven?
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: I'm that's me.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: That's me spreading misinformation.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I mean, like I just said, you're coming off two straight losses.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: One was an absolute throttling at home to the University of Texas, and then you get a start where you're down four to twenty.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I was a little upset, not gonna lie to you.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: I think the team's performance spoke for itself.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: I had a tweet that didn't hit with a lot of people.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Um but you know, I stand by it because it was absolutely true at the time.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: It didn't end up being true at the end of the game.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Those guys figured it out and they played a heck of a second half.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, I just uh I don't understand people sometimes.
- 4:29SPEAKER_04: You know, it's funny with X.
- 4:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, I just said X with receipts because you know the whole point of the platform is to tweet in the moment, you know, about the current events.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: That's kind of the whole shtick of it.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: So to take things out of context and apply that to a different time period, it's a little unfair.
- 4:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, I don't get me wrong, exposing people for poor takes is always kind of funny.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: Um, especially in sports, but I don't think your take was uh out of line at all.
- 5:01SPEAKER_04: I think I think every everyone felt that way, unless you were just straight up drinking the uh sunshine juice at the time.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: No, uh yeah, I mean, look, when it comes to tweeting, live tweeting, we're normally very positive.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: I don't like to be super negative on that app.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of negativity in the world.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: So when I do tweet something negative, I usually use my words, you know, in a way where it's not like disrespectful, you know.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: The team at the time was playing uninspired and they were playing undisciplined.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, it was uh there were turnovers, there was slow defensive rotations.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's an undisciplined ball club that was playing that first 10 minutes of the game.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Um, and they were uninspired.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, they didn't show a lot of fight, there wasn't a lot of emotion, there wasn't a lot of uh, you know, just passion in that first 10 minutes, and that's what it was.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, they did turn it around, and we're all thrilled that they turned it around.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're all thrilled that they beat West Virginia.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Um, I also don't think that beating the last team in the conference by 10 points is, you know, something to like toot your horn about.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I think it's a it's a win, which is a good thing, but it's also not like haha, told you we just beat the number 14 team in the conference.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Like, come on.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: Well, I know they're the last team in the conference, but at the same time, you're on the road in Morgantown without key pieces on your team.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: So even they're nine, they're nine and twenty.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: That's a that's a bad team.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: I I know it's the Big 12, it's still a bad team.
- 6:41SPEAKER_04: The the depth on the Big 12, regardless of positioning, is still gonna be a slight cut above.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be stout.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I don't agree.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I don't agree with this West Virginia team.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: This West Virginia team is bad, they're bad, they'd be bad in and and all the other power conferences, they'd still be bad.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: But your team is in an ambulance.
- 6:59SPEAKER_04: I feel like getting past just getting past this game and surviving is a thumbs up.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Again, it's a good thing that we won.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I'm not trying to argue and say it's a bad thing or we should be DM you.
- 7:11SPEAKER_04: Talk miss.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: We did get uh a little bit of an angry DM from a certain player's father, who we've mentioned on the podcast before.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, a certain a certain Rick Isaacs decided to send us a DM because he was pretty frustrated with us.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Um, and we're now blocked by Rick Isaacs.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: So thought we had a uh pretty good conversation there in the DMs.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Um, again, tried to be respectful, uh, still maintained my stance.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, he didn't he he didn't think so.
- 7:46SPEAKER_04: Add him to the list of strange accounts that block talking tech.
- 7:50SPEAKER_04: So well, who's who's who's he alone?
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: No longer, no longer Henry Columbi unblocked us.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: He unblocked us, what a guy.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Henry Columby unblocked us.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Uh Davion Harmon, I believe, has still blocked us.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: So we're still blocked there, we're still and now we're blocked by uh by Papa Isaac's, which you know is what by Pop himself.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: No, Pop's cool.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, I was about to say Pop's not DMing people on Twitter, like no, his dad's doing that.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: He so I don't know.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: I just feel like sometimes people want tech accounts to just be like a PR positivity factory for Texas Tech, which I just don't agree with.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: There's there's certain accounts that are PR and only spew happiness and sunshine.
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: Um well that's that's the official account's job.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm saying.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Like we're not we're not affiliated with Texas Tech.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: We love the school, we love talking about it.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: That's why we have this podcast, but you know, we're also not just gonna talk about positivity.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: Look, if Texas Tech was to start paying us to do this, we we we can turn it around immediately.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Like we will sell out, I'll fake it all day, baby.
- 9:02SPEAKER_04: Treasured listeners, we will immediately sell out.
- 9:04SPEAKER_04: We are we we have no no no pride, no, no, no, no high road.
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: We will we will immediately turn on the sunshine rays there.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: And and I even understand like certain media that has to be just PR positive because you know they that's how they develop their relationships, that's how they get the access that they get.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: It's just the way the media goes with sports teams these days.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, you you almost can't be critical of uh if you're if you're local media or you know, a certain uh team's account or whatever, you just can't.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: And and that's a little lame in my book, but it is what it is.
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: It's how we've lost our locker room credentials.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:47SPEAKER_04: Our press box pass, so to speak.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll never get one of those now.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Oh well.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't I don't really care.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, dude, like when it comes to thoughts and opinions about Texas Tech Sports, you shouldn't have to like keep anything under wraps.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Or I'm not saying to be overly negative on purpose.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying to let your emotions get the best of you, but the team's allowed to be criticized when they're not playing well.
- 10:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean that's that's part being a fan, dude.
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: We're we're a fan podcast, so it's we're gonna have the highs and lows.
- 10:21SPEAKER_04: It's just it's that's the fun of the whole ordeal.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: So it is what it is.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: People didn't like it.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Well, whatever.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: It's all good.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: We won 81 to 70.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, big win for Texas Tech.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Didn't look like it was going anywhere in the first half, and then Joe Tucson happened, had a good game, revenge game, 21 points against his former school in Morgantown.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: He enjoyed uh his game back, he played great in the second half, Darien Williams 17 and 9, and Chance McMillan coming back, fire off the bench, 19 points, six rebounds, four assists.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Um, really strong, really strong second half for the boys.
- 11:02SPEAKER_04: I don't know if I noticed.
- 11:03SPEAKER_04: Did uh dribble and Joe get booed?
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, it was a little mixture, actually.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Like, because um the interim coach over there at West Virginia was on the staff last year, knows Joe really well.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, you can only say positive things about who he is as a person.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: So I actually think they were saying something on the broadcast about the student section saying don't boo Joe because they liked him.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And I mean, he he left under a crappy situation, you know, the whole Huggins deal happened.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Um, you you kind of have an interim coach, he's spending his last year of college basketball and decided to leave, just like a few others did on that West Virginia program.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like he left on bad terms or anything.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Um, you could say it's kind of a scummy move to move within conference, yeah.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Um, so I think it was a little bit of a mixture of boos and and cheers for Joe.
- 11:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and it was it was good that we only got to play uh West Virginia once because of that as well.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's it's cool for West Virginia to be understanding, which I think we would too.
- 12:03SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's especially uh interconference is obviously not great, but at least it wasn't to a rival program.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: It's not like you're moving to an uh to an in-state or it's not like you went to pit.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that would have been worse.
- 12:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: But no, like Texas Tech and West Virginia don't really have a rivalry.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: We have like a mutual we have a mutual beef when it comes to playing each other, you know.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Two rowdy fan bases are naturally gonna go at each other pretty hard, but um, I wouldn't call our our matchup a rivalry.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: It's about for the John Diver guitar, though.
- 12:40SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 12:41SPEAKER_04: He went to Texas Tech, sir.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: He did, and and it proves true that he did go to Texas Tech because we beat them.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Indeed, indeed.
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: That's that's that's what proves it.
- 12:52SPEAKER_04: That's what that's what rides on it.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: That's it right there.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Um no, I mean, not much more to say.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, you're still playing without Warren, which really sucks.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, because he is, I mean, you're just severely limited when he's not on the floor.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Um, you're you're having to play uh Rob Jennings and uh Emily Yallaho, who played a lot this game, played a pretty good game.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, give Rob his credit for you know hanging tough against Jesse Edwards for West Virginia, but um, you know, it's just clearly night and day difference watching this team with and without Warren.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: So uh really hoping that guy gets back soon.
- 13:28SPEAKER_04: Do we I guess we still don't have a expectation?
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: We don't have yeah.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: I mean we don't have any confirmation, man.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, the the UCF game he he tried to go and clearly could not.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: Um didn't play the last 13 minutes of that game and really played gingerly and limited when he did get on the floor out against Texas, out against uh West Virginia.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: We'll see if he plays against Oklahoma State in Stillwater tomorrow.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, I I don't like it.
- 13:54SPEAKER_04: Do you do you think there's maybe the idea that maybe we keep him uh off the court with the eyes on March now?
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: I hope so.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I hope that's the plan.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Um I I I'm just speculating like anybody at this point.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: On uh, I just know that big men and foot injuries are never a good combination.
- 14:14SPEAKER_04: Um, and about small men with hand injuries.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Not as bad.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, not as bad.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: The thought.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: And he's walking in a boot still.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Uh the boot is a little deceiving.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think some people see the boot and they think, oh no, he's got something broken or something fractured.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, that's not necessarily what it means.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: It could just be precautionary, uh, to kind of help the rehab process a little bit, but or it could be a fashion statement.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: It could be a fashion statement.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Well, we I didn't consider that.
- 14:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's that's what I'm here for.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Horrid Washington wearing the boot as a fashion statement.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: That would be that'd be a surprise to all of us.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: I hope he plays uh before we get to the Big 12 tournament because I don't like uh he's already gonna kind of struggle getting back into game shape a little bit.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: He's now missed, I think, what, four straight games with one try he tried to go at it against UCF.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Uh it clearly wasn't working for him.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: So um I'd like for him to play these last two games, but again, his health is priority here.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: Hopefully he gets well soon.
- 15:19SPEAKER_04: I I hope the strategy here is the eyes are on March at this point.
- 15:23SPEAKER_04: We're basically a lock.
- 15:25SPEAKER_04: Let's just go ahead and make sure he's healthy for the big show.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we are a lock.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, that was our 20th win.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: That was our, I believe, ninth conference win.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: So yeah, Texas Tech's gonna be in the NCAA tournament.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: It's just seeding at this point.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, what matters?
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: We're fourth in the Big 12.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot of good going on right now.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Uh with Texas Tech basketball, it's just if you really want to reach your full potential, you need to get Warren back because I I just I just don't believe this team is gonna go far without him.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: So uh it's really at this point, hold it down until the big guy can get back.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Tall guys in basketball.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Apparently, they're pretty important.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: You need them, you need them.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Um, next up, like I said, uh at Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma State is not having a great season.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Uh what are they?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: They are 12 and 17.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Not good last, second to last in the Big 12.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Mike Boynton is really just counting down the days until he is no longer the head coach.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Do you think it's happening the season?
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: It has to.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: It should have happened three years ago.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: It should like I've always said this with him.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: He's not a good head coach.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: And clearly, Oklahoma State, they're they're better than West Virginia.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: That's what I'll give them.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: They are a competitive bench.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: We're going to still water.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: That's never fun.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Um, even though the uh the fan base over there, I think they have the lowest attendance.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: They've probably given up.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they've probably given up because uh that program is in it's not in a good state because of the head coach that they've kept on for way too long.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: So get this dub, please.
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: Hey, tickets as low as two dollars.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: I'll take big, big, big game.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Two bucks to get into this one, yes.
- 17:14SPEAKER_04: That's what he's doing.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Is that including fees?
- 17:17SPEAKER_04: Uh including fees is two uh two twenty-four.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I don't know.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: That's 24 cents.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: That's don't want to break the bank here.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Uh Oklahoma State.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: They're they're you know, they got a few good guards.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Um, uh young big guy who's pretty decent and could take advantage of Texas Tech if we don't have Warren Washington again.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Um, also didn't mention Kyron Lindsay didn't even make the trip to uh Morgantown against West Virginia.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a little weird.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Uh in a since deleted tweet, Kyron Lindsay's mom was going around the morning before the game uh to a few different accounts, including one she actually uh replied to one of our past tweets.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, basically saying that Kyron Lindsey doesn't play if, you know, it as soon as he makes a mistake, he goes to the bench.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Um according to her tweet, and take this with a grain of salt, this is a player's parent that we're talking about.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, she kind of said that Grant told Kyron Lindsay he couldn't get on the plane with the team to West Virginia.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: No reason why.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Even the assistant coach said he's done nothing wrong, and it was a surprise to everyone.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: All year he's been trying to make him quit, and it only makes him work harder.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Uh again, I wouldn't care about this tweet if it wasn't really from the player's mom.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, definitely a little weird.
- 18:41SPEAKER_04: What are we in middle school right now?
- 18:44SPEAKER_04: That's what it sounds like.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Why aren't you playing my son?
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and she deleted my son.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Clearly, clearly, somebody saw it was just like, Mom, stop.
- 18:53SPEAKER_04: Are you serious?
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: That I mean, that's so embarrassing for that young man, but why is he not getting on the plane?
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: What the heck is going on there, dude?
- 19:01SPEAKER_04: It obviously wasn't because of the coaching staff.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: Like they didn't say, You better stay here, you're not, you're not coming with us.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Well, it was also reported that it he he it's not injury, he's not injured.
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: So there's some drama going on.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: There's something going on with him.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, obviously, probably a little frustrated um with his playing time potentially, or could be a number of other things, something happened in practice, or uh maybe not doing well in the classroom.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but uh I don't know.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know how much longer Kyron Lindsay is uh gonna be a red raider, though.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: I was about to say, sounds like Homie wants to transfer after having a really great game.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: He's like, I'm a star, I'm a starter, you know.
- 19:38SPEAKER_04: But these that seem go, but dude, come on, dude.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: It is odd because he played really well in that TCU game, and then they went to UCF to Orlando, made a mistake, and they benched him immediately.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: And like, did he didn't see the floor again?
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: It's just been weird.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't, I don't know why some of these guys' leashes are longer than others.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Um, especially, you know, some of the other big guys that we have here.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: It's probably because they're better in practice and better with Grant and more understanding, more willing to be coached, I guess.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, would probably be my guess.
- 20:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's there's gotta be some sort of uh tense drama going on, but that's a part of being a coach now, man.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: You gotta deal with the personalities, you gotta deal with the uh the egos.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, gotta know how to the poke and prod.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and do it that ways.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: I I'm I'm okay without Kyron Lindsay.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I I think Yalaho played pretty well against uh against West Virginia, kind of provided some good minutes.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Rob Jennings is doing his best with what he's being asked to do right now.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, uh we'll see.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, dude.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Uh after Oklahoma State, we finish off the Big 12 regular season with a home game against Baylor.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Baylor looking good.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: Looking good.
- 20:57SPEAKER_04: Apparently they're pretty good at basketball still.
- 21:00SPEAKER_04: Be Kansas.
- 21:00SPEAKER_04: Number 11.
- 21:01SPEAKER_04: So beat Texas.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: They uh yeah, they're pretty good.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: Baylor.
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: So maybe Washington doesn't have to wait till the tournament.
- 21:11SPEAKER_04: Maybe he can go ahead and uh, you know, lace up if he's good to go.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, both of these teams are fighting for seeding at this point.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: I think the latest bracketology had us at like a seven seed.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Baylor, I think, is on the cusp of potentially getting a two or three seed here at the NCAA tournament.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, that'll be a tough one.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: It's in Lubbock, that's a good thing.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: I thought that would have mattered for the UT game.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: It did not.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know what to think at this point.
- 21:37SPEAKER_04: And and no fault to the crowd, though.
- 21:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, they the crowd obviously has been showing up and being loud and and rambunctious, but it obviously the team needs to do the same.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: You know, what you want here for Texas Tech is you want a top four seed because the top four seed gets a double bye in the Big 12 tournament.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Um, it's less risk for injury.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Not that the Big 12 tournament really matters.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Basketball.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Like Texas Tech never does too well in it.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: I think we did make the championship a couple years ago, but um it's just not it's just not really worth it at this point.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: You're in the NCA tournament, that's what matters.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, unless you're at Iowa State fan, and then it's it's yeah, that's true.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: It's the it's the show, baby.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Pinnacle.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: The pinnacle, the height of college basketball is the Big 12 tournament.
- 22:22SPEAKER_04: It's it's the conference's way to get another team in the tournament.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's uh yeah.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: It's just hoping for that Kansas State or that West Virginia to make a hell of a run and somehow get like an 11 seed in the tournament.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Get the auto get that auto bid in.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: But uh no, you know, uh looking forward to it.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: I I mean, what are kind of the expectations from from you for this basketball team?
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: What's what's kind of the hopes?
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: What do you see the ceiling for us being?
- 22:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, the trigger the projectory is not great this season right now.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, we we're we're kind of sputtering out at the end, not so much to a fault of our own.
- 23:02SPEAKER_04: You know, injuries have obviously really kind of played its part here, but dude, honestly, I wouldn't be that mad if we went out in the round of 32.
- 23:12SPEAKER_04: I wouldn't.
- 23:13SPEAKER_04: I I I think this year has already exceeded expectations.
- 23:17SPEAKER_04: So anything beyond the round of 32, I think is just a huge bonus, cherry on top for the year we've had.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I I don't want to take away from the fact that Grant's done a phenomenal job in his first year.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: He's gotten this team in a really, really good position in the toughest conference in college basketball, uh, fourth place right now.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Um going and an NCAA tournament bid.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: That's what we said at the beginning of the season.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: If we get in the NCAA tournament, that is good.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: That's a good first season for Grant McCasslin.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Anything else on top of that is kind of extra.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Um now that I've watched the team at their peak with Warren, you know, even without Devin Cambridge, the way we were playing with all of our guys healthy, we were really good, man.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: And I really think this team's got a lot of potential to go even further than that round of 32 if we're healthy.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: So what then what's your answer?
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: If we have Warren, I would like, I mean, I'm again, I'm not gonna be disappointed because we made the NCA tournament, but I'll be kind of disappointed no matter what, because we just lost and we're out and the season's over naturally.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: But if we make it like I I really think this could be a sweet 16 team if we're fully healthy and back playing with all of our guys, I really that would be exceptional.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: I I you know if we don't have Warren, I would be surprised if we win in round one of the NCAA tournament.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: But right, uh, you know, we'll we'll see where it goes.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: I just really want that guy back for his sake, too.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Since last year of college basketball, like you don't want to go out injury riddled and you know lose those last few games that you have before you you know try to make your way with the professional leagues, but um, yeah, just want him back.
- 24:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I think we'd all like to see some NCAA wins.
- 25:02SPEAKER_04: I think that's that's fun.
- 25:03SPEAKER_04: But no matter what, man, we are we are a tough draw for anyone that gets us as well.
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: So it's it's a two-way street.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: It is, it's a tough team.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: Um Grant's got him going.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: Grant Grant gets those guys up for it.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: I'll give them that.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: They're fighting, um, even underman.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: So anything else basketball related before we move on to the stick ball?
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: That I think I'm good on squeaky floor shooty hoops.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: All right, man.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech Baseball starting off the season.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: War crimes.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Nine and two war crimes against these smaller schools.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, we beat who was it?
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Texas Texas Southern.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Texas Southern 32 to 5.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: We beat that team.
- 25:48SPEAKER_04: Michael Strahan is gonna come and burn down our campus.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Did he go to Texas Southern?
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: I thought he went to Texas State.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: No, he went to Texas Southern.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, you come, Michael Strahan.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: This like uh we're obviously we're playing nobody.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: These are midweek camps, we're playing nobody, but we we've scored 116 runs in the last six games.
- 26:13SPEAKER_04: Unbelievable.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: This is baseball, dude.
- 26:16SPEAKER_04: This is not basketball.
- 26:17SPEAKER_04: We are not talking about the same sport.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: They're putting up football scores uh in these games, which is just stupid.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, and I I don't want to, you know, get too far into it because we're beating terrible teams and we're just railing them.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Like we're there's no mercy from Tim Tadlock right now.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: He's just he's just sitting there stone faced like he does, and just keeps watching more and more runs go and these opposing pitchers just on the mound crying.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: Question everything.
- 26:51SPEAKER_04: As as you can, as you could imagine, one could say the bats are indeed hot, my friend.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: They are, they are.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: We're playing well at home, like we always do.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: This this baseball team is good.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, nine and two.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Your two losses are to Oregon State, who phenomenal baseball program, indeed, and Tennessee, another really good baseball program, indeed.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: So, um, you know, a lot of season left.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: You're about to get into Big 12 play, and guess who you open up with?
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: The freaking horns.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Freaking horns.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: Last baseball series against Texas for probably a hot minute.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, first Big 12 series versus UT this weekend in Lubbock.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Texas not having a great start to their baseball season.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: I think they went, I think they went Ofer in their uh most recent preseason tournament.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Granted, played some pretty good teams.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Indeed.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Gotta give them that.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: They played Vandy, they played LSU, and I think they played Texas State.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's the best one.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Pretty good baseball program, though.
- 27:55SPEAKER_04: They they are they're they're they're a good squad, but that is funny.
- 27:58SPEAKER_04: That is funny that Texas State wouldn't beat UT.
- 28:02SPEAKER_04: It's always funny.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I think they blew it last year, too.
- 28:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, obviously, no disrespect to the Bobcat Loy out there, but that you know there's a lot of UT fans that were having mixed feelings about that game, if you know what I mean.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, they were it was it was the Texas State fans that are also UT fans.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, indeed.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: That that couldn't lose in their scenario.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: But uh, but yeah, UT uh UT baseball Twitter was not having a fun time after this past weekend.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Uh that was it a lot.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: There was this one account that was just like I I think they went up pretty early on Vanderbilt, it was like 10 to 4 or something, and uh they posted this video and said, F y'all for saying the horns were done, and then it was like everyone was just posted the final score.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: It's like taking L's, man.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: That was God.
- 28:55SPEAKER_04: I would love to see them absolutely poo-poo with the bed against us in Lubbock.
- 28:59SPEAKER_04: I mean, it'd be it would taste good after what they what happened in basketball um at home here, and obviously what happened in football.
- 29:05SPEAKER_04: We don't want to talk about it.
- 29:06SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, you're saying that it is probably one of the last matchups we have with them, but I bet this is one of the sports that we we play them again pretty quick.
- 29:13SPEAKER_04: But either way, let's get the job freaking done, man.
- 29:16SPEAKER_04: Get a clean sweep.
- 29:17SPEAKER_04: The the Dan Law will be popping, and we're gonna go ahead and get that hot bat streak going.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and this could honestly, this could well, maybe besides softball, could be the last series that Texas Tech plays Texas in the Big 12.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Through that, dude.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Through that.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: I don't I think softball it has to be softball.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, softball is gonna play them a little later in the year.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, it's uh of the big three sports.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: This is I mean, besides unless basketball plays them in the Big 12 tournament in two weekends, uh, this might be the last one.
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's that's kind of crazy to think about.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Good riddance.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Oh no, because they're gonna play, they might play UT in the Big 12 baseball tournament.
- 30:03SPEAKER_04: Still, I your your point stands as like regular season opponents.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so whatever.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Get rid of them.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: We're done.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Peace.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Peace out.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Uh one more thing about the UT series.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Kevin Bazell is uh listed as out.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: He's been uh pretty hot on the mound, been hitting a lot, uh hitting the ball oil, just like Tim Tadlock would say.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, so that is not great.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: You're obviously you're missing one of your big hitters, but uh I don't know.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: We got we got enough, we got enough guys on this team to take this one.
- 30:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean this the Tim it's a Tim Tadlock team.
- 30:38SPEAKER_04: You can't count them out of literally any game they ever play.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Um, anything else for Bitcoin?
- 30:45SPEAKER_04: Nah, dude, I think they'll do it on the on the stick ball.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: Hey, the new double T scoreboard looks pretty darn good in the football stadium, huh?
- 30:53SPEAKER_04: Boy howdy does it.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: Is it a is it is it a whole new scoreboard or is it the old one just pretty up with some makeup and put back?
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: It's bigger, it's a bigger, brand new, massive.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, it looks very similar to the OG, it's just much bigger.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: I I love how how like it was a whole event.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: People were live streaming it, hosting watch parties, waiting for the whole last top of the T to be dropped down.
- 31:21SPEAKER_04: It was it was just it was a great moment for tech Twitter.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: It was, it was it's a great moment for all of us to come together and watch a live stream on YouTube of a construction of half of the stadium.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: It was beautiful.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: God, I love our fan base.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Such weirdos, dude.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: I did get I got I got a little twinkle in my eye when I saw Joey McGuire tweet where it showed the crane holding the first piece.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, it's it's time, it's time, we're witnessing history.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: The scoreboard is back.
- 31:55SPEAKER_04: God, I cannot wait to see the stadium, dude.
- 31:58SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be immaculate.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: It looks magnificent already, and it's I don't even know.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: I don't even know how much longer it's gonna take until it's ready, but man, it looks nice.
- 32:08SPEAKER_04: The stadium is already so beautiful with the pieces already in place.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: That was the only kind of ugly part of the stadium, and so it's just it's gonna look so freaking good.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: And for it to be connected to the practice facility right down to have that whole new walkway and all the suites and all that, it's gonna look fantastic.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: So hype can't wait to see it the season.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, it's gonna be beautiful.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Baron Morton throwing a pass to Micah Hudson, who oh, also Micah Hudson uh gonna miss spring ball.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Not great.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Uh awesome.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: That was yeah, that was announced.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Um why?
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: I guess he's dealing with a with an injury that he had in high school and kind of had stop playing pickup basketball or whatever the heck.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Do not put him in a glass case in the football season.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: No teenage fun allowed.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: No, I don't think it was anything crazy.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: I think he opted to have a like a reconstruction surgery or something of that nature um from a from a prior injury that he sustained in high school.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: So should be fine come football season, but him missing spring ball as a true freshman isn't great.
- 33:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I would agree on that, but probably nothing too concerning.
- 33:22SPEAKER_04: I mean, the kid's gonna be a star.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: You could say this is less risk for injury in spring ball.
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: True twisted positive way is a good way to see it, my friends.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: How about you?
- 33:38SPEAKER_04: No, look at us.
- 33:39SPEAKER_04: Look at us being positive here.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, look at us being positive on the talk of tech podcast.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: You don't get that, you apparently don't get that very often.
- 33:47SPEAKER_04: Anything else to say on football before I no, we what's it what you got?
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: So obviously, one of the big things that was happening on uh social media in the CFB world was uh the playoff like uh proposal of the 14 team.
- 34:06SPEAKER_04: We're already talking about a 14-team playoff.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Oh lord, where did you see that?
- 34:10SPEAKER_04: Um this is I'm looking at the athletic article right now about how there's already a proposition uh being discussed about moving to a 14 team playoff.
- 34:19SPEAKER_04: And I don't want I don't I don't want to draw too much attention to the playoff because I I think obviously we spend too much time talking about it anyway, as a just as a as fans of the sport as a whole, because obviously it's not the important part of the sport when it comes down to it, but obviously it has huge impact on the game as a whole.
- 34:36SPEAKER_04: Um so but the the real the reason why it's a big deal is because apparently the SEC and the Big Ten are pushing for three automatic uh uh uh uh qualifying spots with first round buys automatically every single year.
- 34:55SPEAKER_04: Um, leaving six so that's six positions for them alone.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: And then apparently they have offered the Big 12 and the ACC two automatic qualifying spots as well, plus one to a G5 team, leaving the rest to be wild card.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: So, do any responses pop into your head immediately on this?
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: This is getting so stupid.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: I honestly, I honestly like just want them to like get this going already and like just get away from the NCAA like you're going to here in the next couple years.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: Um you know, hopefully we're included in this uh in this situation where we are one of the top dogs fighting for you know the top of the top in college football.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: Um, but at this point, like I think they're just twiddling their thumbs and just saying, yeah, we could increase the playoff because yeah, that's what's gonna help here and totally not what the TV networks are doing.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, but you know, it is what it is.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: I'm not surprised by anything realignment wise or expansion-wise or whatever.
- 36:07SPEAKER_04: So are you saying, like, let's just hurry up and get to whatever the heck they want the final product to be, which is the minor league NFL, which is just a suckier NFL.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, I guess we're just gonna hang on to what college football is until that happens here in the next couple of years.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: You know, what what are your thoughts?
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: It's just it's gonna be really funny to see like minor league football teams that just use the school branding because oh yeah, we're gonna we're gonna get to the point where the players aren't even students anymore, if they're being honest, you know.
- 36:34SPEAKER_04: So it's it's getting really weird.
- 36:36SPEAKER_04: It's like getting completely detached from the entire point of why college athletics are what they are.
- 36:43SPEAKER_04: It's just it's just an extracurricular that the students and alumni use to be connected to their school.
- 36:49SPEAKER_04: Like that's what it was always just supposed to be, but something fun to do.
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: But my thoughts here are the reason why it's a big deal is because it's in the hands of the Big 12 and the ACC to kind of, if this actually has legs, to push it one direction or the other.
- 37:04SPEAKER_04: And a lot of people are saying you accept the so-called olive branch, or the while the other people are saying if you accept this, you're accepting your fate as a second rate conference.
- 37:15SPEAKER_04: Like you are just you're throwing your hands up and saying that yes, they are better than us and deserve more than us.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: So that's kind of the the the the twin split here.
- 37:27SPEAKER_04: So obviously, my thoughts are I hope this doesn't happen.
- 37:30SPEAKER_04: I hope we just stick with the origin the with the plan we have right now and hopefully it's successful and we stick with it because I think it's the best we got right now.
- 37:38SPEAKER_04: But I if I had to go one way or the other on this split, is you to you go this you go the ladder.
- 37:44SPEAKER_04: You go, no, this is we're not accepting this.
- 37:47SPEAKER_04: You because at that point you're surrendering.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: You're surrendering to the SCC and the Big Ten, leaving, you know, removing any and all leverage you ever had, and it's over at that point.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: They won.
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: So I would say no, you hold the line.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: And uh, if if if the threat is the Big Ten and the ACC break away, I say you you call that bluff and you push buttons in other places and see what you can do.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: But I that's that's how I feel about it.
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: I think the Big 12 and the and the ACC should hold strong as as much as they can, if this is indeed as any truth to it.
- 38:20SPEAKER_04: Um, because I don't I would I think it would be an adjunct failure, abject failure from your mark if he surrenders.
- 38:28SPEAKER_04: Like is like is you've you've permanently tarnished the Big 12 uh reputation at that point.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I don't I don't know much about the ACC commissioner, but I don't see your mark.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: Uh he hasn't shown one bit of like give in sort of attitude.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Uh so I don't see him going the olive branch route like what you're saying.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: Um, I just think me, I maybe I'm being pessimistic about this, but I just I mean, we all see the writing on the wall here with the SEC and the Big Ten getting away from the NCAA.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's gonna happen, whether it's five years or 10 years or whatever, it's gonna happen.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's what all of this has been leading to for so long.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, with them just piling big programs uh and focusing solely on money uh versus you know, product or the betterment of college football or whatever.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, they've completely ignored that for since 2011.
- 39:28SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I was about to say, since the Longmore network.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so they've completely ignored that for a long time.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: And so there's no reason for me to think that the SEC and the Big Ten aren't gonna eventually want more and want to uh control their own destiny when it comes to other things like revenue and TV shares and everything.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: Like the NCA still has a little bit of say in what goes on with that stuff, and uh if you want to break yourself away from the Big 12 and the ACC, potentially poach some of the schools from those and just get away and make your own deal.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: I don't see why they wouldn't do that.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't well, I don't see a path where they don't do that, I should say.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: So you think it's inevitable?
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it's inevitable.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I don't know if that's me being pessimistic or what, but I mean everything I didn't think UT and OU would leave, you know, and then they left, and then Oregon and the Pac-12 dis is destroyed a ton.
- 40:31SPEAKER_04: Like one of the most storied conferences of all time, yeah.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Like a hundred years of history, not in the Pac-12, but like those schools being together, and they just completely said, Nope, we're out to this new thing, we're dead now.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: And so I don't know.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: I I hate I I've always hated the direction that college football is going.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: I've hated it since the start of it, since all of this realignment stuff, I've hated it, but uh, it's almost like inevitable.
- 40:59SPEAKER_04: Obviously, I mean I I I agree with you that there's that that that that's a real threat of happening, and it's up to your mark to position the Big 12 to be in the mix no matter what.
- 41:11SPEAKER_04: Like really, you know, try try what find to find what buttons you have to press, what uh whose arms you have to pull to make it happen, and you make it happen.
- 41:20SPEAKER_04: Um, but shoot, it's it's just it's getting it's getting so stupid, and eventually I I it might be naive of me to say this, but I think that uh all of this hyper speed, light speed to towards a wall is inevitably gonna be the destruction of uh the sport.
- 41:40SPEAKER_04: Like I I really think that we're chopping the head off the goose that's pooping out the golden eggs.
- 41:45SPEAKER_04: Like, I think I think uh eventually uh people aren't gonna be able to see the difference between this and the NFL.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: And and I mean that in a bad way because people are gonna be like, why would I commit to this when it's just a way worse NFL?
- 42:00SPEAKER_04: So I I I just think it's just heading to its inevitable destruction, and perhaps it needs to die for it to reset itself.
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure.
- 42:10SPEAKER_04: But obviously, as fans, we can just enjoy what we have now, that's the only thing we can do.
- 42:15SPEAKER_04: But it just really reinforces the point that dude, I'm just gonna turn on Texas Tech, I'm gonna watch Big 12 games and the G5 games, and I'm not gonna care what the talking heads want me to care about.
- 42:27SPEAKER_04: You know, that's just what it's gonna be at the end of the day.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, you you and my watching our our weekly Saturdays are not gonna change.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: Like no, we're still gonna watch Texas Tech, we're still gonna whether it's on whatever ESPN or what, we're still gonna watch it, it's still gonna be what we're talking about.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: It's we're still gonna bullshit about it because we love the school and whatever.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: I like I've never been a big conference guy.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: I think with the recent thing, you know, I root for Texas Tech, whoever they play.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: So um that part of it's not gonna change, you know, absolutely, dude.
- 43:02SPEAKER_04: And I I've I've I've really realized that I don't love college sports just because of college sports.
- 43:10SPEAKER_04: I love college sports because Texas Tech's in college sports.
- 43:14SPEAKER_04: I only care at the end of the day on what's actually connected to Texas Tech.
- 43:19SPEAKER_04: Like, sure, it's fun to tune in some to some games, but I'm not emotionally invested in any of it unless Texas Tech is connected.
- 43:26SPEAKER_04: I'm not like I have no problem not turning on the play of the college football playoffs flat out.
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: I don't, I don't care.
- 43:33SPEAKER_04: Once Texas Tech is done, my interest in it is over.
- 43:37SPEAKER_04: Like it has to be somewhat connected to me.
- 43:39SPEAKER_04: Like, is a Big 12 team in it?
- 43:41SPEAKER_04: Or is you know, it is a uh uh a fun matchup in it, like a Chief 5 team, then maybe I might turn in.
- 43:48SPEAKER_04: But other than that, dude, I could give a rat's ass what big brand team is playing the other big brand team.
- 43:53SPEAKER_04: Like honestly, I don't care.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, see, I think you're a little different than the majority.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Um, I do think I Obviously the TV ratings, you know, speak of themselves.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: People care about Michigan, Ohio State.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: They care.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: They care about Alabama, you know, Auburn or whoever.
- 44:09SPEAKER_04: Right, but those are the big traditional rivalry games.
- 44:11SPEAKER_04: You're talking about something different.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Well, no, people still care about the college football playoff.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: People still care about that Michigan and Georgia or play each other or whatever.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: Right, they do.
- 44:20SPEAKER_04: I'm saying, but I don't.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: I'm saying I don't.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: I did sure.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: No, and and I'm not saying you're wrong.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying that you're in the minority, in my opinion.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: Like I think, I think college football fans, even if they root for Texas Tech, will still watch the college football playoff without Texas Tech in it.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: Like, I think the majority will do that versus you know your thoughts.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: There's the the reason why the NFL is so immensely power popular is because of the casualness of it.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm obviously so I'm you're also not a pro sports guy.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: I'm not never been a pro sports guy.
- 44:54SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 44:54SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna like I was about to say, I'm not gonna discredit people's die hard passions for a professional team, but obviously there's gonna be vast, vast, vast, vast more casual viewers to professional sports because you're just you're seeing the best of the best at what they do go against each other, and they represent huge swathes of populations metro-wise.
- 45:15SPEAKER_04: While college sports is so much more niche, where it's just like you're you have to be from a particular small region, alumni, or have a you have a child that's a student there.
- 45:26SPEAKER_04: It's just there's so many more intricacies in college sports that just it gets lost in NFL, and that's just what makes that so much more popular.
- 45:34SPEAKER_04: While it just that doesn't translate as much to college sports, while the casual fan, yes, will be like, wow, Michigan versus Alabama, those are two big brands.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: I'm interested in this.
- 45:45SPEAKER_04: Like that's you can see why casual fans will want to turn into that, but if you're a diehard for a certain school, you you're you might not be as suede, like because your interest is just elsewhere, is what I'm saying.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: I'll I'll give you I'll give you that college sports fandom is more a little more niche and diehard than professional.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Um, I I don't necessarily agree with um that.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Well, now I'll just contradict myself.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: I I actually I'll take it back.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Die hard.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: I think there's absolutely diehard pro sports fans that are just as crazy as diehard college fans.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Now, you don't have that extra sort of connection that you might with a professional team that you have with a college team.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, it's it's it's all kind of the same.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: I think there are, especially with the way that college sports have gone, where it's about the brands and you're getting more pro sports fandom per se with a big money college brand, you know, like this 13-year-old kid is gonna wear potentially an Alabama jersey, couldn't live anywhere near Alabama, but knows the brand and knows that they win a ton and will watch them.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: I think there are those now in college sports.
- 47:03SPEAKER_04: Yes, but not nearly on the scale of the NFL is what I'm saying.
- 47:07SPEAKER_04: Well, no, but that's and it'll never be that way, was my entire thesis.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it will get that way if it gets to this minority.
- 47:15SPEAKER_04: It won't.
- 47:16SPEAKER_04: It won't, it won't ever match the NFL.
- 47:19SPEAKER_04: It won't.
- 47:20SPEAKER_04: No same with college basketball, it won't ever match the NBA, it won't, it won't ever, it won't ever come close.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: Well, those I mean, college football is just vastly less popular than the NBA.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm saying for the reasons I've laid out.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: Well, sure.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know what the argument though is.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Like what what like what we're we both agree that this isn't good for the sport.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 47:42SPEAKER_04: I and I just laid out the like the the basic reasons why is because they're gonna try to make it the NFL, but not nearly the same amount of people are gonna care.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: You're still gonna nearly you're still gonna there will be people that care, I know, but there's gonna be enough to appeal to the same number.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: But you're also saying this is leading, you're also saying this is leading to the death of the sport.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: There's gonna be enough that care that's gonna keep the sport alive.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: I I I just think that that there will be a level of apathy that sets in about it because it's still called it's still gonna be college sports where Alabama and Ohio State will still hoard the best recruits and the best resources, and they'll still always win.
- 48:24SPEAKER_04: Like, what's in it for a Rutgers fan at that point, whenever it's the minor league NFL, is what I'm my was my entire point.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: No, I agree.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: The I mean the NCAA has sat on their freaking feet the through this whole process.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, they've let this happen, that's why they're an incompetent organization.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: They have let this league get to where it is now, haven't enforced anything when it came to NIL, which only you know boosted the process and all that stuff.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: And the NCAA is incompetent, they have not had the right leadership to maintain what college sports are, and we're now getting to the point with where we're at.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: Man, it's just I really do wish that I know I know it's a pipe dream and it's thrown around, uh, it's fairly popular now on the social media stuff.
- 49:10SPEAKER_04: I really do think that college sports would benefit from relegation.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: I think relegation would be really good for it.
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: Um, because I think I think it'd make it because he could make it regional that way again.
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: He could dice it all up into regionality, and then you make you know the end of the year tournaments like the playoffs where it gets national again.
- 49:27SPEAKER_04: Like that, it it would be so much fun because then everyone's involved again.
- 49:31SPEAKER_04: It's just because all this is is a few greedy assholes consolidating all their power together and trying to shut the door on everyone else.
- 49:42SPEAKER_04: That's all this is, and it's just it's heartbreaking to see, um, especially because they're not professional organizations, they are nonprofit institutions that are doing this, and it's just we're letting our tax dollars go to these places and they're doing this to their you know fellow in-state institutions.
- 49:59SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm getting a little preachy, a little soapboxy.
- 50:02SPEAKER_04: We've obviously gone way too way longer than I thought this was gonna go.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: Um, it's kind of a replacement for debate corner here.
- 50:07SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's just it's the plot has been so lost, and I know that my alma mater is no angel in all this.
- 50:17SPEAKER_04: That they would they want to do the same thing.
- 50:19SPEAKER_04: They want they wouldn't want nothing more to be with the upper echelon, but like it's just it's just sickening.
- 50:25SPEAKER_04: It makes me it's icky.
- 50:26SPEAKER_04: Sucks.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it sucks, it sucks.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: Uh and it and it really sucks because you can't really do anything about it.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: No, you can't.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: You can't.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: You can you can spew on X all you want uh about your thoughts and opinions, but that's not gonna change where we are.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, the majority, I don't think, wanted this, and no, here we are.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Um all right, dude.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: To end on a high note, to end on a high note here, just want to mention Texas Tech softball is kicking butt.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: They're 17 and 4 to start off the year.
- 50:59SPEAKER_02: Let's go, dude.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: They're they haven't played much competition.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: I I want to say that, but they have beaten teams that they need to beat.
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: They played a Florida State team earlier this season.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: Florida State's a powerhouse softball program, and they played them well.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: I think they only lost nine and to the wire.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to the wire.
- 51:16SPEAKER_01: So Craig Snyder and that staff, they're uh they're getting it going here.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, definitely gonna tune into some Big 12 series for softball.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: I have not caught a game yet this season, but need to shout them out 17 and 4.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, dude, I'm a believer in Coach Snyder.
- 51:30SPEAKER_04: I I really think he's gonna get this program in the right direction because there's really no reason for us not to, um, especially with the success on the other diamond with men's baseball.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: So I really think things are going the right direction.
- 51:41SPEAKER_04: And clearly they are.
- 51:42SPEAKER_04: I mean, I know even if competition has been great.
- 51:44SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's softball has arguably been the worst program on campus for the past few years.
- 51:49SPEAKER_04: So I'm glad to see him really turn it around.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's true.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, also, shout out track and field.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: Wes Kitley got another Big 12 championship.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: Let's go, dude.
- 51:59SPEAKER_04: And coach of the year.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: And coach of the year, as always, goat goat.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: He's seriously, he's the goat.
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: He's probably Tex Tech's single best coach ever.
- 52:09SPEAKER_04: Ever.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: He's definitely, yeah.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't maybe Marsha Sharp up there too championship.
- 52:16SPEAKER_04: He probably's probably a little above Marsha at this point.
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: But he just think the sustained success.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: That that program is a wagon.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, I wasn't I wasn't watching any of it because I was, you know, it was during a weird time, but like the it's just constantly they're posting results and like the top eight finishers of every event, and like five of them are Texas Tech.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's stupid.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: It it's it what's the extra dose of what's so cool about that is the amount of Olympians we get to put into the national teams as well.
- 52:47SPEAKER_04: So it's just it's so great to see the GOAT.
- 52:50SPEAKER_04: Now let's see his son do some GOAT things with football.
- 52:53SPEAKER_04: Come on, Zach.
- 52:54SPEAKER_04: Let's go, Zach.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: Come on, we're all rooting for you, man.
- 52:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, don't make it look like nepotism.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: No, it's not nepotism.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: Baron Morton, the truth.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Come on, come on, please.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: All right, man.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: Let's end her off here with a song of the week.
- 53:11SPEAKER_04: Steven, this podcast has to have a loyalty to the Josh Abbott band.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: I mean, every single week, this podcast opens up with victory bells with old, with old uh Proud alum Josh Abbott blaring out uh Fire Raiders fight there.
- 53:26SPEAKER_04: But um, so I'm gonna go with his new album, Somewhere Down the Road.
- 53:32SPEAKER_04: It's a it's it's got some jams on it, some new sounds along with that old Josh Abbott's uh uh uh tune you usually expect from him.
- 53:40SPEAKER_04: But I'm gonna go with the opener.
- 53:42SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go with a quit in time jam called Astronauts.
- 53:46SPEAKER_04: Just one of those classic songs about complaining about your job and then getting off and enjoying the hell out of it.
- 53:52SPEAKER_04: So Astronaut Josh Abbott band.
- 54:01SPEAKER_05: Sometimes I wish I was an astronaut.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: Get a good old Lubbock legend right there.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Uh or I should say Idolu, Idolu engine legend, uh Josh Abbott.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: No.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Um Lubbock Cal.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: We love we love that.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Good good recommendation.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: I'll have to give it a listen.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: I haven't listened to the new album yet.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, jab's usually a pretty good pretty good tune.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Safe bet.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: Safe bet.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: My song of the week is a little different from Josh Abbott band.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: Um so so my boy T-Pain did a new album.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: My guy.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: He had a new album uh that came out where he did a bunch of cover songs, which you know you and me love covers.
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: Covers, baby.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: We love covers over here.
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: We're weird about it.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: It is, it's a little, I don't know.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: It's fun, it's always fun seeing like a different take on a on a you know jam.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: And this is definitely something I did not expect ever.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, was T-Pain singing a Black Sabbath song, uh, which if you have not listened to it, the live he did a live version, then he released a studio recorded album uh of these cover songs.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: But the live version is the one that I'm talking about here.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: My song of the week is War Pigs by T-Pain.
