- 0:12Hello friends, it is Sean here and it is a Friday and bully for
- 0:17you for making it to the end of another week.
- 0:21Here we are getting to read Assam together and today we are
- 0:26reading another Psalm of Asaf. And this is a Psalm of lament, A
- 0:31Psalm where the psalmist cries out remembering that God does
- 0:36help Israel and hoping that God will do just that because it
- 0:40doesn't seem like things are going well.
- 0:43And what a lovely reminder for us that when it all goes pear
- 0:46shaped that their God is saying cry out to me.
- 0:50Here I am ready to help. So this is a Psalm for Jedison,
- 0:55the choir director. A Psalm of ASAP.
- 0:59No stringed instruments, no liars, no nothing.
- 1:02Just you and me and these words of Psalm 77.
- 1:18I cry out to God. Yes, I shout.
- 1:22Oh, that God would listen to me when I was in deep trouble.
- 1:27I searched for the Lord all night long.
- 1:30I prayed with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was
- 1:35not comforted. I think of God, and I moan,
- 1:40overwhelmed with longing for his help.
- 1:44You don't let me sleep. I'm too distressed even to pray.
- 1:48I think of the good old days, long since ended, when my nights
- 1:53were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the
- 1:58difference now. Has the Lord rejected me
- 2:01forever? Will he never again be kind to
- 2:04me? Is his unfailing love gone
- 2:07forever? Have his promises permanently
- 2:10failed? Has God forgotten to be
- 2:14gracious? Has he slammed the door on his
- 2:17compassion? And I said, this is my fate.
- 2:22The Most High has turned his hand against me.
- 2:27But then I recall all you have done.
- 2:30Oh Lord, I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.
- 2:35They are constantly in my thoughts.
- 2:37I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.
- 2:42Oh God, your ways are holy. Is there any God as mighty as
- 2:47you? You are the God of great
- 2:50wonders. You demonstrate your awesome
- 2:53power among the nations. By your strong arm you redeem
- 2:58your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
- 3:03When the Red Sea saw you, oh God, its waters looked and
- 3:07trembled. The sea quaked to its very
- 3:10depths. The clouds poured down rain.
- 3:14The Thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning
- 3:18flashed. Your Thunder roared from the
- 3:22whirlwind. The lightning lit up the world.
- 3:26The earth trembled and shook. Your Rd. led through the sea,
- 3:31your pathway through the mighty waters, a pathway no one knew
- 3:36was there. You led your people along that
- 3:40road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aron as their
- 3:44shepherds. Thank you for the Psalm, Lord,
- 3:57because sometimes we do just feel despair and like we are far
- 4:04down in a deep well and we don't even know how to pray.
- 4:09Thank you that at times like this we hear the Psalmists not
- 4:12relying on how terrible they feel and how hopeless their
- 4:16plight seems. But they remember all you have
- 4:21done, and they claim your promises of old help us to rely
- 4:29on what we know to be true about you and your love for us, even
- 4:33when our emotions are telling us a different story.
- 4:39We claim you as our everlasting, ever compassionate, ever
- 4:45consistent and loving God. And we thank you for being so
- 4:52incredibly biased in our favor with your love and your
- 4:56provision for us. We love you, we thank you, and
- 5:01we lift you up. And we pray all of this in Jesus
- 5:05name. Amen.
