- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I really like this pick a lot pretty and you're
- 0:21Speaker 3: not going to make me like you're not putting me
- 0:24Speaker 3: in a corner because you always tried to start at
- 0:27Speaker 3: the beginning of this show telling me I didn't like
- 0:28Speaker 3: the Will Campbell pick, which I did. So the only
- 0:32Speaker 3: drawback here is a difficult first name to type. It's
- 0:35Speaker 3: not that it's not that bad. Thanks.
- 0:37Speaker 4: I definitely need more frothing at the mouth counter arguments
- 0:41Speaker 4: from the former fastest man in town.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I just want to state it for the record. Now
- 0:45Speaker 3: I'm getting made fun of for not arguing enough.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Right and also for being skinny.
- 0:49Speaker 6: Paul.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I don't mind the skinny. I was called a baby,
- 0:51Speaker 3: I was told to take my ball you go home
- 0:53Speaker 3: if I read it, and once again I was writing
- 0:58Speaker 3: I'm so tired of being right.
- 0:59Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm tired of it too. Because the Patriots have
- 1:02Speaker 7: a four and twelve.
- 1:05Speaker 5: You wanted to get rid of Tom Brady, all right.
- 1:08Speaker 4: You invited Patriots are four because of you.
- 1:11Speaker 8: I want one young im he was sick of taking
- 1:17Speaker 8: nauced I'm not.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And this is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:33Speaker 4: Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is day three of the
- 1:37Speaker 4: NFL Draft. It is Deuce, Evan, Paul, myself. We're gonna
- 1:41Speaker 4: be here for a couple hours today. Patriots have the
- 1:44Speaker 4: fourth pick in this current round, the fourth round, so
- 1:48Speaker 4: we're going to be right at it. I think the
- 1:51Speaker 4: reviews are in, and I'll speak for myself. I thought
- 1:55Speaker 4: they had a good day yesterday.
- 1:56Speaker 7: Heck yeah, yeah I did too.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I mean, I think the reviews in general are overwhelming,
- 2:00Speaker 3: really positive.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 8: It's my favorite part of the draft is when you're
- 2:03Speaker 8: here are your four guys now you can really dig
- 2:05Speaker 8: in on them.
- 2:06Speaker 7: Watching some of them last night.
- 2:08Speaker 8: Henderson Man, he's just I think, lean mean, big play machine,
- 2:12Speaker 8: that guy. I mean, what a fun player to watch.
- 2:15Speaker 8: I also love that he wore thirty two. It's just
- 2:16Speaker 8: like a running it's a real running back. Number thirty
- 2:18Speaker 8: two is available. Movie and talk to d Mac.
- 2:20Speaker 7: And see if he'd be okay with that.
- 2:21Speaker 8: But I'd love to see bring thirty two back at
- 2:23Speaker 8: It'll get it on a running back. But and I
- 2:25Speaker 8: just say two on Wilson, who I didn't.
- 2:26Speaker 7: Really watch a lot of.
- 2:27Speaker 8: I mean, he's a center, but what a big dude,
- 2:29Speaker 8: big athletic dude. Really liked the promise of him. That's
- 2:33Speaker 8: always been a spot. You know, David Anders are really good,
- 2:35Speaker 8: but you know, he always felt a little bit undersized.
- 2:37Speaker 8: And I mean just the combination of athleticism and size.
- 2:41Speaker 8: I mean he looks a little bit like on when
- 2:43Speaker 8: you like it's just got that square build. So he's
- 2:45Speaker 8: a really promising guy, really interesting, And we talked so
- 2:48Speaker 8: much about the offensive line.
- 2:50Speaker 7: Just have some promise there in the middle. It's it's encourable, it.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Seems right now, all of a sudden, there's some depth there. Yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 4: the offensive line something to play with. Yeah, there's something
- 2:57Speaker 4: to play with here. And hopefully they saw it out
- 3:00Speaker 4: quickly so we can get those best five on the
- 3:02Speaker 4: field together as much as possible, so when September comes around,
- 3:06Speaker 4: they're playing as a unit.
- 3:07Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, that's the plan.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Yeah. I'm intrigued by the fact that they feel like
- 3:11Speaker 5: Wilson can at least compete potentially at guard I think
- 3:14Speaker 5: he's a center probably long term. That's what Elliot Wolf
- 3:17Speaker 5: said last night, was that they see his long term
- 3:19Speaker 5: future most likely at center, but if he can play
- 3:22Speaker 5: guard then great. You know, that's great flexibility. And you
- 3:25Speaker 5: mentioned that he was kind of Georgia's sixth offensive lineman
- 3:29Speaker 5: two years ago. Last year he started. In the year
- 3:31Speaker 5: before that, he was their top backup on the interior,
- 3:34Speaker 5: so he did practice at all three spots on the inside.
- 3:37Speaker 5: So maybe there's a little bit more flexibility there than
- 3:40Speaker 5: I initially thought. But I think in general with the draft,
- 3:43Speaker 5: you just really like how they've played the board. I
- 3:46Speaker 5: think they've had a much better feel for the board
- 3:48Speaker 5: this year than they did last year. And I think
- 3:51Speaker 5: it all kind of starts with the fact that they
- 3:53Speaker 5: took Will Campbell at the top allowed them to not
- 3:56Speaker 5: reach at it on a tackle on Day two, so
- 3:59Speaker 5: they were kind of chasing their tail at that position
- 4:02Speaker 5: for the rest of the draft. So we get to
- 4:04Speaker 5: the point now where you know, some people might have
- 4:06Speaker 5: been a little bit surprised about taking a running back
- 4:08Speaker 5: that early, but he was the best player on the board,
- 4:11Speaker 5: so they just took the running back. You know, they
- 4:13Speaker 5: wanted to take a running back at some point, and
- 4:15Speaker 5: they made the pick there and took the running back
- 4:17Speaker 5: over a wide receiver because the rest of the wide
- 4:20Speaker 5: receivers didn't really go until the third round, so you
- 4:23Speaker 5: would have been at that point, you know, drafting a
- 4:25Speaker 5: little bit, you know, overdrafting at that position. So I
- 4:28Speaker 5: just really like how it feels like they have a
- 4:31Speaker 5: much better feel for the board and aren't reaching on
- 4:34Speaker 5: any of these picks and have been pretty good about that.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Yep.
- 4:37Speaker 3: And that was a phrase that i'd heard a lot
- 4:40Speaker 3: late last night on the ride home before the local
- 4:43Speaker 3: show has sort of ended and the national guys came in,
- 4:45Speaker 3: and then I heard it again this morning, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 3: people talking about staying true to the board, whereas that
- 4:50Speaker 3: they felt like last year they were a little bit scattered.
- 4:53Speaker 3: So I do think that, and it's kind of funny.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I felt like this year might have been a little
- 4:59Speaker 3: bit more difficul called to stay to Who's board, because
- 5:02Speaker 3: I think the board's probably varied greatly because of the
- 5:06Speaker 3: stuff that we've been talking about the whole draft process.
- 5:08Speaker 3: But I do feel like the guys they took were
- 5:11Speaker 3: in rounds that most people thought they would go.
- 5:13Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely, and you like.
- 5:15Speaker 3: When you hear things about other teams being interested in
- 5:19Speaker 3: the players that you're interested in, you know, And I
- 5:21Speaker 3: know that that sounds funny, Like what do you care?
- 5:23Speaker 3: You should have strengthen your convictions. But isn't it you know,
- 5:26Speaker 3: would you rather have Sean McVay And let's need laughing
- 5:29Speaker 3: about Cole Strange or talking about how much they like
- 5:32Speaker 3: Trevon Henderson too. I'll take the ladder, you know. I
- 5:36Speaker 3: like when guys sort of feel, oh, they got a
- 5:39Speaker 3: good one. We wanted him, we missed out on him.
- 5:42Speaker 4: And you know, like we always talk about Bill and
- 5:44Speaker 4: how the quirkiness of his drafts usually came because he
- 5:49Speaker 4: wanted to do somebody a favor, Like I like this
- 5:53Speaker 4: coach and I'm going to do his program a favor
- 5:55Speaker 4: by you know, picking somebody from his school or you know,
- 5:58Speaker 4: something like that program. And you know, here Rabel went
- 6:03Speaker 4: to Ohio State. So if you're gonna do favors, let's
- 6:05Speaker 4: do it to like one of the bigger schools that
- 6:07Speaker 4: have like the most talent, you suckers, right, So I
- 6:12Speaker 4: kind of like that.
- 6:13Speaker 7: It was it was a funny. I was thinking about
- 6:15Speaker 7: the same thing last night.
- 6:15Speaker 8: Fred was with Bill's drafts, like he had so much
- 6:19Speaker 8: success that you had no choice but to kind of
- 6:21Speaker 8: acquiesce and say, well, yeah, you must see something. And
- 6:26Speaker 8: you know, as we got near the end, more and
- 6:27Speaker 8: more you said, well, geez, I'm not trusting these as
- 6:29Speaker 8: much as I used to.
- 6:31Speaker 7: Now with this draft, it's easy just to go home
- 6:33Speaker 7: and be like, yeah, this just makes total sense. Like
- 6:35Speaker 7: this is what we've.
- 6:36Speaker 8: Talked about for three months of what we want to
- 6:38Speaker 8: see them add, what we think that they need. They
- 6:40Speaker 8: see it similarly, the expulsiveness at running back, the explosiveness
- 6:44Speaker 8: at receiver, adding depth along the line.
- 6:46Speaker 7: Uh, those are the big positions we've been talking about.
- 6:48Speaker 7: It just you know, that's it sounds weird to say,
- 6:50Speaker 7: but it just makes sense.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Yeah. We had a caller, Robin called in and said,
- 6:55Speaker 5: you know, it was very animated about watting game breakers,
- 6:58Speaker 5: and yesterday they went out and they added two potential
- 7:01Speaker 5: game breakers with Williams and Trayvon Henderson. So if that
- 7:06Speaker 5: was what you were clamoring for you you wanted speed,
- 7:08Speaker 5: you wanted big playability. I mean, we'll see if they
- 7:11Speaker 5: pan out, but you have a four to four receiver
- 7:13Speaker 5: and a four to four to one running back. I
- 7:15Speaker 5: think that they got some speed on the field.
- 7:17Speaker 4: And I know he shouldn't need motivation, but doesn't this
- 7:20Speaker 4: like really motivate your young quarterback to see what they're
- 7:24Speaker 4: doing in this draft? It's like, Okay, I got to tackle,
- 7:26Speaker 4: I got a dynamic running back and a wide receiver.
- 7:30Speaker 4: We already signed Stefan Diggs. Let's go, you know, let's
- 7:34Speaker 4: get out there. I want to be out on the
- 7:35Speaker 4: field today.
- 7:36Speaker 8: I mean, you know, I think it's the same thing. I mean,
- 7:38Speaker 8: and maybe even a tight end in the mix too.
- 7:40Speaker 8: It seems there's you know, a number of names that
- 7:42Speaker 8: could possibly make sense here on Day three, So I
- 7:44Speaker 8: don't even know if they're if they're done. I know
- 7:47Speaker 8: Elliot Wolf commented that they're going to go to defense.
- 7:49Speaker 8: I think the way he put it was, there are
- 7:50Speaker 8: some spots we feel like we need to shore up,
- 7:52Speaker 8: which is you know how I feel too.
- 7:54Speaker 7: Uh, we'll see what they do here at the top
- 7:56Speaker 7: of the fourth.
- 7:56Speaker 8: But as I went back and kind of looked through
- 7:57Speaker 8: some of the prospects and haven't brought up Kyle Canard,
- 8:01Speaker 8: who we talked about a little bit going up up
- 8:02Speaker 8: against Will Campbell.
- 8:03Speaker 7: Given Will Campbell some problems.
- 8:04Speaker 8: Uh, you know, guy, there are there are some guys
- 8:06Speaker 8: out there on the edge that that still intrigued me.
- 8:08Speaker 7: So I'm not quite not that I haven't given up.
- 8:10Speaker 7: I haven't given I haven't given up.
- 8:12Speaker 3: That will be somebody that's gonna come at you with that.
- 8:14Speaker 8: Well, I just I'd like to have somebody that i'm
- 8:16Speaker 8: I'm familiar with and a little bit excited. But as
- 8:18Speaker 8: you get further down the board, it's more and more like, oh.
- 8:21Speaker 7: I missed this guy, or you know, this guy fell
- 8:23Speaker 7: through the cracks.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I'm surprised to hear you talking about tight end off
- 8:26Speaker 3: the top before before the edge guys.
- 8:28Speaker 7: Oh sorry, I'm trying to you know, I don't want
- 8:31Speaker 7: you guys are yellowing me.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Elliott talked about, you know, evandon yell Elliott talked about,
- 8:37Speaker 4: you know the fact that with the trade downs, they've
- 8:39Speaker 4: got some extra picks in the fifth round, which might
- 8:42Speaker 4: allow them to make a move if they see fifth
- 8:45Speaker 4: So you know, we could see them going back into
- 8:48Speaker 4: the fourth round using up a couple of those fifth
- 8:51Speaker 4: picks or whatever if they see a guy you know
- 8:54Speaker 4: that you.
- 8:54Speaker 7: Like, yeah, hopefully highlight.
- 8:56Speaker 8: But they also have no picks in the sixth round.
- 8:58Speaker 8: So it's the doughnut. I mean, that's a big, big
- 9:01Speaker 8: way to go.
- 9:01Speaker 4: See.
- 9:02Speaker 8: Yeah, so they're they're picking fourth in the fourth, then
- 9:05Speaker 8: they're picking sixth, eighth and thirty fifth in the fifth.
- 9:07Speaker 8: No picks in the sixth and then fourth and twenty
- 9:09Speaker 8: second right now in the seventh.
- 9:11Speaker 7: Uh So you know there is there is a hole.
- 9:12Speaker 8: I could see maybe a trade down where they you know,
- 9:15Speaker 8: try to maybe package some picks and fill that gap.
- 9:18Speaker 8: But there's still you know, promising players to be had today,
- 9:21Speaker 8: not necessarily players that you're going to say, these guys
- 9:24Speaker 8: are going to come in And actually, this is a
- 9:26Speaker 8: question I was thinking of for Elliott last night, would
- 9:29Speaker 8: have just been do you still feel there are players
- 9:30Speaker 8: on the board that can compete for starting jobs? Like
- 9:33Speaker 8: you said, these top four picks that you've made can
- 9:36Speaker 8: all come in and compete for starting jobs. I think
- 9:39Speaker 8: that'd be an interesting question just to hear his perspective
- 9:41Speaker 8: as we get into the fourth round. Are there still
- 9:44Speaker 8: competitive guys that you feel like, can you know, play
- 9:47Speaker 8: with the guys.
- 9:48Speaker 4: That Dyke went to the Tennessee Titans Decay? Yeah, Okay, sorry, no,
- 9:54Speaker 4: that's Okay, I just trying to have a little accent
- 9:58Speaker 4: over the East saying that word DK. Yea, so he
- 10:02Speaker 4: went to the Titans wide receiver out of Florida.
- 10:05Speaker 5: That was one of your guys, Fred back of the
- 10:07Speaker 5: envelope guy, I believe. So I'm pretty sure I don't
- 10:12Speaker 5: have my I mean, I remember, I remember you may
- 10:14Speaker 5: say the name the way you said it once before.
- 10:18Speaker 5: So I yeah, explosive player, really four to three speed, good,
- 10:24Speaker 5: good athlete. I thought I thought he kind of that
- 10:28Speaker 5: was late to him. I was impressed by what I saw,
- 10:30Speaker 5: but you know, just kind of a one trick pony.
- 10:33Speaker 4: He wasn't one of my guys.
- 10:34Speaker 5: I thought I couldn't sworn we talked about him.
- 10:36Speaker 8: We might have talked about I mentioned Hi because we
- 10:38Speaker 8: had to correct him too talented.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I had, oh I see he's yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 4: So I had Tory Horton, uh, Lambert Smith, ty Felton,
- 10:49Speaker 4: Nick Nash who still there's still home, Thornton Junior and
- 10:54Speaker 4: Isaiah and those guys.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Yeah, uh yeah, I was kind of interested in DK
- 11:01Speaker 5: if they decided to to not take a receiver on
- 11:04Speaker 5: day two, you know, as in this range, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 5: maybe a little earlier than I expected, but a fourth
- 11:08Speaker 5: fifth round flyer on just some upside and some tools
- 11:11Speaker 5: and speed.
- 11:12Speaker 8: It would have been fun with Eldrick because we've been like, hey,
- 11:14Speaker 8: they got DK.
- 11:15Speaker 5: They got the fastest, one of the faster guts in
- 11:17Speaker 5: the draft.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I didn't get that at first. I'm
- 11:24Speaker 3: already out.
- 11:25Speaker 5: I do think there's some edges for you dudes that
- 11:27Speaker 5: that could that can contribute, yeah, and that can play.
- 11:30Speaker 5: I think that that spot we all knew it was deep,
- 11:32Speaker 5: and we all knew that there would be guys early
- 11:34Speaker 5: on Day three that would still be able to come
- 11:36Speaker 5: in and contribute. Obviously, Jack Sawyer is still out there,
- 11:39Speaker 5: which is probably the biggest Rabel connection ever in this draft.
- 11:44Speaker 5: And uh, you know, I really liked Kyle Canard. I
- 11:47Speaker 5: thought Kyle Canard was a was an easy top one
- 11:50Speaker 5: hundred guy in this draft. You know, great college production,
- 11:53Speaker 5: uh really well schooled pass rusher, good length, good ability
- 11:57Speaker 5: to win in the run and the pass game, good
- 12:00Speaker 5: stings could you knows for the football. So I'm really
- 12:04Speaker 5: hoping that one of six is an edge pick. I
- 12:06Speaker 5: really think that you know that that kind of puts
- 12:08Speaker 5: a bow on the draft. To me, is if you know,
- 12:10Speaker 5: they're able to take one of those edge guys.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I missed some of the picks, you know, crossing them
- 12:15Speaker 3: off my list as the as the night went on
- 12:17Speaker 3: last night, is the L s U kid the edge
- 12:19Speaker 3: guy that you I think since he did get save.
- 12:24Speaker 5: On Jones, there's two of them.
- 12:26Speaker 3: You're talking about Swinton, Yeah, and you were talking about
- 12:29Speaker 3: him a little bit.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Yeah he's still there.
- 12:30Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:31Speaker 3: I mean I get intrigued by the schools too. You know,
- 12:34Speaker 3: I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about
- 12:35Speaker 3: these different guys at this stage, but I remember that
- 12:38Speaker 3: name from when Evan was talking about him last night,
- 12:40Speaker 3: and yeah, the L s U.
- 12:43Speaker 8: I like the other one, Savian Jones and I last
- 12:45Speaker 8: night as I was regrouping, and then I didn't realize
- 12:47Speaker 8: the same thing. I didn't realize he had gone to
- 12:48Speaker 8: k C. But he would have been one of those
- 12:50Speaker 8: guys I figure right here as what we're coming up on.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Yeah, is the Michigan kids still there now?
- 12:58Speaker 5: Okay, So the the Jaguar took Bishal touton to running
- 13:02Speaker 5: back from Virginia Tech, who is one of the more
- 13:04Speaker 5: fun studies of this running back class in my opinion,
- 13:08Speaker 5: just absolutely dynamic mover, great speed, you know, four to
- 13:13Speaker 5: three level speed and a home run hitter. He can
- 13:16Speaker 5: catch the ball a little bit out of the backfield.
- 13:18Speaker 5: You know, we talked about stacking the speedbacks in this class.
- 13:21Speaker 5: You know, Treyvon Henderson was certainly at the top of
- 13:23Speaker 5: the list, but guys like Tuton, Dylan Samson, R. J.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Harvey from UCF, you know, Bishard Smith maybe a little
- 13:31Speaker 5: bit later, like those were the guys that that we
- 13:33Speaker 5: were talking about in that mold, and the Patriots took
- 13:35Speaker 5: took the top one, they took Henderson button. I'm sure
- 13:39Speaker 5: if they hadn't taken Henderson when they took him, then
- 13:42Speaker 5: Teuton was probably on the board at this range for them.
- 13:44Speaker 7: A good question for you guys.
- 13:45Speaker 8: Just going through Elliot Wolf's press conference, he said there
- 13:47Speaker 8: was a little bit of debate on the pick that
- 13:50Speaker 8: ended up being Henderson. Were you know, speculating and they
- 13:52Speaker 8: said though it was good, there was some disagreement and
- 13:54Speaker 8: they had some back and forth. I thought that was interesting.
- 13:57Speaker 8: We were kind of speculating who it might have been.
- 13:59Speaker 8: I think we thought maybe Jaden Higgins could have been
- 14:02Speaker 8: the player that they were also considering at that spot.
- 14:04Speaker 8: But now it seems like they're all you know, smooth operation.
- 14:08Speaker 8: They're all getting to know each other. But I thought
- 14:10Speaker 8: that was interesting that they were, you know, kind of
- 14:12Speaker 8: sharing that that it isn't all sunshine and.
- 14:14Speaker 7: Rainbows and yeah, that's what we agree. You know, there
- 14:16Speaker 7: has to.
- 14:17Speaker 8: Be some you know, give and take. So I think
- 14:19Speaker 8: they're all getting to know each other. I mean, even
- 14:20Speaker 8: with Ryan Cowden or Assus Elliott, you know, thanking all
- 14:24Speaker 8: the how hard it is for that coaching staff to
- 14:26Speaker 8: come in and they've got a new scouting staff and
- 14:28Speaker 8: you've got to get everybody up to speed. So I
- 14:29Speaker 8: think it's it's probably been a little bit of a
- 14:31Speaker 8: challenge for them getting everybody on the same page.
- 14:33Speaker 4: The other story, I'm sure we'll talk about probably after
- 14:36Speaker 4: the Patriots pick, because there's gonna be a big gap.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Is this shedor Sanders thing. I mean, he's still on
- 14:43Speaker 4: the board, We're now into the fourth round. There's all
- 14:46Speaker 4: kinds of speculation as to why, and it is kind
- 14:51Speaker 4: of a head scratcher, it really is. I mean, how
- 14:53Speaker 4: can so many people have thought that at least he
- 14:58Speaker 4: was second round talent, at least, you know, thinking he
- 15:01Speaker 4: can play in this league. And yet he hasn't been
- 15:04Speaker 4: picked yet. And the only thing I can come up
- 15:06Speaker 4: with is just the baggage is not worth the talent.
- 15:11Speaker 4: But you know, a lot of people are saying that
- 15:14Speaker 4: an established program like the Rams or the Steelers should
- 15:18Speaker 4: be able to absorb a guy like that until you
- 15:21Speaker 4: know he is in fact ready to play and keep
- 15:24Speaker 4: down the distraction. But the teams that you know, really
- 15:28Speaker 4: really need a quarterback are passing him up.
- 15:31Speaker 3: That's why I brought Pittsburgh up last night for that reason.
- 15:33Speaker 3: They do need a quarterback, and I feel Tomlin is
- 15:39Speaker 3: strong enough. Yeah he's not. I don't think that Tomlin
- 15:41Speaker 3: would say I'm not taking him because I worried about
- 15:44Speaker 3: the bag. I mean, it's the guy who had Antonio Brown.
- 15:46Speaker 4: For Yeah, maybe he's done with all that I'm not
- 15:50Speaker 4: going through.
- 15:50Speaker 3: That could be. Maybe he's you know what Bill used
- 15:52Speaker 3: to say, that it's toward the end of his tenure.
- 15:54Speaker 3: I want to cover I want to coach guys. I like,
- 15:56Speaker 3: you know, maybe he doesn't want to deal with those
- 15:58Speaker 3: kinds of headaches anymore, but I don't. I don't feel
- 16:03Speaker 3: Sanders is that kind of a problem, you know, like
- 16:08Speaker 3: in air quotes problem you know, he's not been in
- 16:10Speaker 3: any kind of legal trouble. He's not you know, he's
- 16:13Speaker 3: he's committed football player. Stataboo Giants and all that stuff.
- 16:18Speaker 3: You know they're going to take a running back now, Patriots.
- 16:21Speaker 4: I don't care what he is. I want him on
- 16:22Speaker 4: my team. I just want him as my mascot.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Okay, no, I just I mean, I just thought it
- 16:27Speaker 3: would be very unlikely that Patriots would take You have
- 16:30Speaker 3: to take in travy On Henderson. Well, you don't think
- 16:32Speaker 3: that kind of gets.
- 16:33Speaker 7: Scat special guy, special player.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Uh, he's breaking tackles in his.
- 16:39Speaker 4: I think the Giants just won the NFC.
- 16:41Speaker 3: I like I do. I so badly want to make
- 16:45Speaker 3: fun of Fred right now, but I'm kind of with
- 16:47Speaker 3: him on this guy. I think he's he's a really
- 16:49Speaker 3: good football player. I don't know how long he's going
- 16:51Speaker 3: to be in the NFL playing. Watch some of these runs.
- 16:53Speaker 3: You won't see him like all of these highlights that
- 16:57Speaker 3: they show, Like the Virginia Tech guy they just showed,
- 16:59Speaker 3: he's like one cut into space. Gone, Yeah, doesn't do that.
- 17:03Speaker 3: It's it's one cut.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Let me see if I could find another guy to hit,
- 17:06Speaker 4: he'd be like you know in the locker room having
- 17:08Speaker 4: those slap fights, you know, like boo, you slap the
- 17:11Speaker 4: guy and.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Oh my god, yeah, I like scataboo. I think he's
- 17:16Speaker 3: probably gonna be in the league for about three years.
- 17:18Speaker 3: He's gonna be broken down.
- 17:20Speaker 8: But you know, just real quick one back to Shu
- 17:22Speaker 8: or Like it almost feels like performative for the media
- 17:25Speaker 8: with some of these like outraged takes, and I just
- 17:29Speaker 8: can't help but wonder if it's making them look bad
- 17:31Speaker 8: because they spend so much time hyping him up, hyping
- 17:34Speaker 8: his potential.
- 17:34Speaker 3: I totally think that, like he didn't go in the
- 17:38Speaker 3: first round because the thirty two teams that picked didn't
- 17:41Speaker 3: think he was good enough. To the fact that he
- 17:43Speaker 3: hasn't gone since, you can make an argument is about
- 17:46Speaker 3: more than that. Like I'll listen to that, but don't
- 17:49Speaker 3: tell me that no one took him in the first
- 17:50Speaker 3: round because of Dione Sanders. I don't believe that if
- 17:54Speaker 3: he was good enough to go in the first round,
- 17:55Speaker 3: someone would have taken him. Well, there were three or
- 17:57Speaker 3: four teams that needed a quarterable, it would think. But
- 17:59Speaker 3: now you can make an argument that I mean Dylan Gabriel,
- 18:04Speaker 3: but you know and and he's not going to go. Now,
- 18:07Speaker 3: you can make an argument that it's about.
- 18:08Speaker 4: But there were enough ballnoers who said he was the
- 18:13Speaker 4: first round talent to say what's going on here?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Like, but who were the ball knowers that were saying
- 18:18Speaker 3: it because the teams didn't What do you mean the
- 18:21Speaker 3: team said he's not going.
- 18:23Speaker 4: No, No, I'm not talking about I'm talking about like.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Mel Kiper did. Yeah, yeah, he was out of his mind.
- 18:27Speaker 4: I'm talking about the draft analysts.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah I think they were wrong.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Yeah, but like how how are they so wrong?
- 18:32Speaker 3: I don't know. Like Dame Brugal had him in the
- 18:33Speaker 3: second round, he wasn't wrong.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Yeah, well he was so far.
- 18:37Speaker 3: But I again, he wasn't a first round talent.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 3: The rest of this could be about you know, it's
- 18:44Speaker 3: just like Mike Green. Well do you think he was
- 18:46Speaker 3: Green's first round talent but in the second.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Round he had something going on?
- 18:50Speaker 10: No?
- 18:50Speaker 4: I know, yeah, but so do you think it was
- 18:52Speaker 4: just like the name Sanders actually helped him? You know,
- 18:55Speaker 4: like right now it's hurting him, we say, but could
- 18:58Speaker 4: it have also helped him to be he thought of
- 19:01Speaker 4: as a first round talent?
- 19:02Speaker 3: That's the thing that I was joking about last night.
- 19:05Speaker 3: There is a lot of people passionately saying that no
- 19:07Speaker 3: one would be talking about this drop if it wasn't
- 19:10Speaker 3: for his last name, and a lot of people would
- 19:12Speaker 3: say he wouldn't have dropped like this if it wasn't
- 19:14Speaker 3: for his last name.
- 19:15Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I don't know who's right, but both of them are
- 19:17Speaker 3: arguing strongly on both sides.
- 19:19Speaker 8: A lot of relationships to be managed, a lot of
- 19:20Speaker 8: relationships good way with crime as well.
- 19:23Speaker 3: And I do feel like that's part of this. I
- 19:25Speaker 3: think that people that are strongly in the He's getting
- 19:28Speaker 3: screwed camp or carrying favor with Dion.
- 19:32Speaker 4: So the Patriots pick is in, it is Yeah, yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 4: it's it's I think it's a safe pick.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, this is not a head scratch.
- 19:45Speaker 8: I'd say this is the first pick that I have
- 19:46Speaker 8: been a little bit interesting, makes you think.
- 19:49Speaker 4: A little bit sounds like yeah, this is uh so
- 19:53Speaker 4: the pick is in. It's Craig Woodson, safety from California.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, so a true free safety. And I think
- 20:00Speaker 5: that that's something that we talked about that you know,
- 20:03Speaker 5: is a potential need for this team somebody that can
- 20:07Speaker 5: play at the top of the defense in center field.
- 20:10Speaker 5: I think he's probably at his best playing in more
- 20:14Speaker 5: split safety coverage or rotating down in that robber role
- 20:17Speaker 5: or into that you know, short zone distribution. But I
- 20:20Speaker 5: definitely think he can play up top and play the
- 20:22Speaker 5: deep role as well. And I'm sure they feel that
- 20:25Speaker 5: way too. You know, we've talked numerous times about them
- 20:29Speaker 5: needing like a Deron Harmon type of safety that you
- 20:32Speaker 5: can let Kyle Dugger and Jabriel Peppers play closer to
- 20:34Speaker 5: the line of scrimmage, play in the box, especially on
- 20:37Speaker 5: third down and obvious passing situations. I feel pretty good
- 20:41Speaker 5: about Woodson potentially competing for that sort of third safety role.
- 20:45Speaker 5: I don't know if he's going to be a starter
- 20:48Speaker 5: in the NFL, you know, long term, but as a
- 20:51Speaker 5: depth safety, somebody that can rotate in on third down
- 20:54Speaker 5: passing situations, play center field. I think that he can
- 20:58Speaker 5: do those types of things. And they obviously felt like
- 21:01Speaker 5: this was a need. It seems like they felt like
- 21:03Speaker 5: safety was definitely on the radar for this draft.
- 21:07Speaker 8: Yeah, well, Marcus EPs, you brought back Jalen Hawkins as well. Yeh,
- 21:11Speaker 8: I said earlier in the show. Do you still feel
- 21:13Speaker 8: like there are guys who compete for starting roles. I
- 21:15Speaker 8: don't know if I qualify this. I think have you
- 21:17Speaker 8: put it pretty well that he'll compete to be a
- 21:20Speaker 8: rotational piece. But I do think that the signals are
- 21:23Speaker 8: pointing towards we need another option. We don't want to
- 21:27Speaker 8: play Dugger and Pepper's together, you know. I think that's
- 21:29Speaker 8: what we all kind of acknowledge that those two guys
- 21:31Speaker 8: are going to be at their best when they're free
- 21:33Speaker 8: to move around make plays on the second level instead
- 21:36Speaker 8: of you know, like what darn Harmon did so well,
- 21:39Speaker 8: but that's a very specific kind of job. So maybe
- 21:41Speaker 8: if if he's able to do that and be that
- 21:43Speaker 8: third safety on you know, third downs end of games
- 21:46Speaker 8: when you're trying to play.
- 21:46Speaker 7: A lot of coverage on the back end, and it
- 21:48Speaker 7: could fills a need.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yeah, six foot around two hundred pounds ran a four
- 21:53Speaker 4: four five, so decent speed for safety.
- 21:58Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, I would also mention, you know that
- 22:02Speaker 5: there's there's maybe potentially a little bit of nickel corner
- 22:05Speaker 5: flex here. I think he could probably do that as
- 22:08Speaker 5: well and play over the slot if they wanted him to.
- 22:12Speaker 5: So there's some flexibility with him as a player I
- 22:15Speaker 5: would say, just to full disclosure, I had him as
- 22:19Speaker 5: much further down, and so did the Beast, you know,
- 22:22Speaker 5: had a sixth round grade on him. Dame Breuler had
- 22:25Speaker 5: the same. So I'm a little surprised. It's a little
- 22:27Speaker 5: earlier than I expected him to go. But I think
- 22:29Speaker 5: we're at the point of the draft now where a
- 22:31Speaker 5: lot of it is just fit and scheme and culture
- 22:34Speaker 5: and character and all that kind of stuff. So where
- 22:38Speaker 5: you see guys on day three, maybe.
- 22:40Speaker 3: This is where you'll see that stuff that I was
- 22:42Speaker 3: talking about earlier about, you know, the the eye of
- 22:45Speaker 3: the beholder. Yeah, you know, there's going to be some
- 22:48Speaker 3: probably variations.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Any any col connections in our draft room, not that
- 22:53Speaker 4: I know of, No, No, all right, all right. Jack Kaiser,
- 23:00Speaker 4: linebacker from Notre Dame, went to the Jacksonville Jaguars. So
- 23:04Speaker 4: you know, barring a trade, we're we're not up until
- 23:07Speaker 4: the fifth round. But like Wolf said, they do have
- 23:11Speaker 4: now some amo to go back up into the fourth
- 23:13Speaker 4: if they see somebody.
- 23:14Speaker 7: Yeah, stay ready, stay.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Ready, keep an eye open. Yeah, it's we two picks
- 23:19Speaker 3: that are quick, right.
- 23:20Speaker 7: Yeah, fourth, sixth and eighth pick in the fifth round.
- 23:22Speaker 3: But you got probably about thirty plus picks to get through.
- 23:26Speaker 7: I think there's thirty six picks.
- 23:28Speaker 8: I believe in this in this fourth round, maybe thirty
- 23:31Speaker 8: nine actually, So yeah, this is this is what.
- 23:36Speaker 7: Watching that ticker waiting for any to paba.
- 23:39Speaker 4: So we have a lot of emails coming in. And
- 23:41Speaker 4: by the way, last night again was huge numbers.
- 23:45Speaker 3: And for the show, the listeners really bringing it too,
- 23:48Speaker 3: like so a lot of good calls, a lot of
- 23:49Speaker 3: good emails, and.
- 23:50Speaker 4: We get criticized sometimes for the callers. Uh and you
- 23:55Speaker 4: know sometimes it's the same people and I get it,
- 23:57Speaker 4: but I think of them credit for I think there
- 24:00Speaker 4: was a lot of energy last night, a lot of takes,
- 24:03Speaker 4: not saying they were all good, but a lot of takes.
- 24:07Speaker 4: So keep it up. Let's go. Also, podcast at pages
- 24:11Speaker 4: dot com is the way to email the show. We
- 24:13Speaker 4: got a ton of emails coming in. Jared Wright said,
- 24:16Speaker 4: I absolutely love the Henderson pick. I can't help but
- 24:18Speaker 4: think back to James White McDaniel's offense, not saying Trey
- 24:21Speaker 4: will be James White, but can definitely see him being
- 24:24Speaker 4: used the same way. Yeah, we see him as a
- 24:27Speaker 4: you know, a third down back as well, passing back,
- 24:30Speaker 4: helping out in the passing game.
- 24:31Speaker 7: Yea.
- 24:32Speaker 8: Elliott said they kind of view all those guys as
- 24:34Speaker 8: three down backs, and I think we talked about it
- 24:37Speaker 8: last night when they made the selection that in recent
- 24:39Speaker 8: years they had gotten away from that. It hadn't been
- 24:41Speaker 8: the pure early down, third down kind of split between
- 24:45Speaker 8: the running backs. I think that's what they're trying to
- 24:47Speaker 8: stick with. I think they like all those guys to
- 24:49Speaker 8: be able to play on all three downs. And I'm
- 24:52Speaker 8: wondering if that's part of what Josh McDaniels and I
- 24:55Speaker 8: don't want to say it's him evolving, because for all
- 24:57Speaker 8: we know, it might have been how Bill wanted to
- 24:58Speaker 8: play things, you know, and he was here before. But
- 25:01Speaker 8: I do wonder a little bit if it's maybe Josh saying,
- 25:04Speaker 8: you know, we got to get away from so much
- 25:06Speaker 8: specialization in the backfield. We need guys that are threats
- 25:09Speaker 8: to catch the ball or run the ball and make
- 25:11Speaker 8: and make plays. I do like though, I think as
- 25:14Speaker 8: Evan said, you know, they do compliment each other pretty
- 25:15Speaker 8: well with ramondre his hard running style, but I just
- 25:18Speaker 8: the way ramondre plays it just doesn't serve to run
- 25:22Speaker 8: him into the ground. He's gonna get hit a lot.
- 25:24Speaker 8: He's gonna break tackles. So I just think Henderson's in
- 25:27Speaker 8: a nice would you say, thunder and lightning kind of
- 25:29Speaker 8: kind of.
- 25:29Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I love James White. Everybody here loves James White.
- 25:34Speaker 5: I think Travon Henderson has got the potential to be
- 25:37Speaker 5: a much more well rounded player than James White was.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Like James White was a true third down running back,
- 25:43Speaker 5: you know, past catching back, receiving back, third down running back.
- 25:46Speaker 5: I think Travon Henderson's got a little bit more of
- 25:49Speaker 5: a complete skill set.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I would oh, poor, poor, poor biggie.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Oh Dante Thornton.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Dante Thornton just went to the big Shock the Raiders. Yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 3: but I would just say I agree with you one
- 26:03Speaker 3: thousand percent on James White, the New England Patriot. James
- 26:06Speaker 3: White coming out of Wisconsin was more than just a
- 26:10Speaker 3: third down pass catching back. So we'll see what Henderson
- 26:13Speaker 3: ends up being. Yeah, I think Henderson's probably resume at
- 26:18Speaker 3: Ohio State is more impressive than White's at Wisconsin. But
- 26:21Speaker 3: White was more than a third down back of Wisconsin.
- 26:23Speaker 3: And that's a team that you know, right, they kind
- 26:26Speaker 3: of played old time Big ten football, and he was
- 26:29Speaker 3: between the tackles option there as well.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I just I think that, you know, James White,
- 26:36Speaker 5: just from what he was with the Patriots, was that
- 26:39Speaker 5: of a specialized player.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 26:40Speaker 5: I think this guy Henderson has the ability to do
- 26:43Speaker 5: a lot more.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Me too. But if you would ask me, and I
- 26:46Speaker 3: do remember when when James White came out, I remember
- 26:49Speaker 3: doing his profile, I wouldn't have said that that's what
- 26:54Speaker 3: he'll he'll be strictly this third down matchup guy. I
- 26:58Speaker 3: wouldn't have thought that that's all he would be. I
- 27:00Speaker 3: thought he would be more of a change of pace
- 27:02Speaker 3: running back, yeah than he was.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a good way of putting it. That's how
- 27:06Speaker 5: I see Henderson as a true change of pace back. So,
- 27:09Speaker 5: you know, certain game plans, certain game situations, certain packages,
- 27:13Speaker 5: even you know, eleven personnel packages, spread the field type
- 27:16Speaker 5: of offense like that, they're gonna have him be the
- 27:20Speaker 5: feature guy. You know, he'll be the number one running
- 27:22Speaker 5: back in that type of vein. So I see him
- 27:25Speaker 5: much more as like a one B to Remondre Stevenson
- 27:28Speaker 5: than just a third down running back.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Like, just as a point of comparison, James White his
- 27:35Speaker 3: last year at Wisconsin at two hundred and twenty one
- 27:37Speaker 3: carries for fourteen and forty four yards and thirteen touchdowns.
- 27:41Speaker 3: That like, so what he was as a Patriot wasn't
- 27:43Speaker 3: what he was coming up. I mean he also at
- 27:46Speaker 3: thirty nine catches, so he obviously had that ability. But
- 27:49Speaker 3: James White was a big time player at Wisconsin.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Yeah, the pills have traded up into one oh nine,
- 27:56Speaker 4: So it's always interesting to see what our AFC East
- 28:00Speaker 4: rivals take.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Maybe they take Sudoy Sanders good. Uh no, I mean,
- 28:06Speaker 3: like Fred brought up, like the teams like those are
- 28:09Speaker 3: the Philadelphia Kansas City, Yeah, Pitch, those are the teams
- 28:13Speaker 3: that are strong enough that we can take him. He's
- 28:16Speaker 3: not gonna play No one's gonna say he needs to
- 28:18Speaker 3: play over Josh Allen. We can just be patient with him.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not expecting that. I'm just saying those
- 28:23Speaker 3: are the kinds of teams that could take Shedoys Sanders.
- 28:26Speaker 4: But you know, listen, you guys say, well, he's not
- 28:28Speaker 4: going to play with Josh Allen, right, but you put
- 28:31Speaker 4: him in your system. He's a good citizen for a
- 28:34Speaker 4: year and now other teams warm up to him.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Maybe you can second.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Third round pick for him or second, you know, or first.
- 28:43Speaker 8: I just say on on Buffalo's draft looking through them
- 28:46Speaker 8: right now, I mean Walter Nolan, Will Johnson, and Jordan
- 28:48Speaker 8: Burch all defensive picks thus far for the Bills.
- 28:51Speaker 3: So there it made sense. Their defense has evan't put
- 28:54Speaker 3: it out Thursday night. Their defense has taken some steps back,
- 28:56Speaker 3: and it's.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Notable to know that they just over the Jets.
- 28:59Speaker 7: Some of the Bills.
- 29:00Speaker 5: No, that's their Arizona.
- 29:01Speaker 7: Oh shoot, sorry, I apologize.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Yeah, well well Johnson, I know, went to Arizona.
- 29:06Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, you're right. Sorry.
- 29:07Speaker 3: They took the Kentucky quarterback.
- 29:11Speaker 8: Kirston Sanders, Lana Jackson. Yeah, it's still the same point though,
- 29:14Speaker 8: all all it all defensive players Lana Jackson, big big dude,
- 29:19Speaker 8: like jumped out of the RCA dome.
- 29:22Speaker 4: There.
- 29:23Speaker 3: They are crazy Buffaloes. They are they are.
- 29:28Speaker 5: It is funny though, Another big, big defensive player, Dion Walker.
- 29:32Speaker 5: Oh yeah, Deon Walker is a weird player though, because
- 29:35Speaker 5: he's like three hundred and fifty three hundred and sixty pounds,
- 29:38Speaker 5: but he plays he plays end like he's.
- 29:41Speaker 3: That's a great clip right there. They just showed up.
- 29:43Speaker 3: He just likes it. Get out of my way.
- 29:44Speaker 5: He's just oh yeah, no, he's he's a man amongst
- 29:48Speaker 5: boys in that respect. But he plays better I would
- 29:50Speaker 5: say at defensive end. Then he does a nose tackle
- 29:53Speaker 5: because of his pad level, he gets really high up
- 29:55Speaker 5: and pops straight up out of his stands. So he's
- 29:58Speaker 5: not the best at leveraging box in the run game,
- 30:01Speaker 5: even at his size. So he's actually better, uh, you know,
- 30:04Speaker 5: rushing the passer and playing a little bit in space,
- 30:07Speaker 5: which is interesting.
- 30:07Speaker 3: That's interesting they took two defensive tackles that are very
- 30:10Speaker 3: very different. Yeah, because you said Sanders if all the
- 30:14Speaker 3: kind of athletic interior guy, and this guy is just
- 30:18Speaker 3: huge monster.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Yeah, Dion Walker. I think a lot of coming into
- 30:22Speaker 5: this process. He's probably rated a lot higher on a
- 30:25Speaker 5: lot of people's boards, but he's really fallen down because
- 30:29Speaker 5: of you know, really digging into the tape and pad level,
- 30:32Speaker 5: leverage concerns, motor concerns at that size, like things like that.
- 30:36Speaker 4: What's interesting they hopped over the Jets, So I'm wondering
- 30:39Speaker 4: if the Jets were they got win that the Jets
- 30:42Speaker 4: might have been interested in this guy. Jets, Jets are
- 30:45Speaker 4: on the clock.
- 30:46Speaker 7: Yeah, certainly a traits kind of.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I am a little surprised that, I mean, not surprised
- 30:50Speaker 3: with all the defensive picks, but just that they hadn't
- 30:53Speaker 3: targeted at least one sort of weapon on offense, because
- 30:57Speaker 3: I do think they were kind of a weapon away
- 30:58Speaker 3: last year offense. Then they had a good offense, and
- 31:02Speaker 3: they don't get me wrong, I mean, but they just
- 31:04Speaker 3: relied so much on Allen.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Eight five five past five hundred is the hotline. Let's
- 31:09Speaker 4: go to Nate in Connecticut. What's up Nate?
- 31:13Speaker 12: Hey, guys, can you guys hear me?
- 31:14Speaker 4: Yep?
- 31:16Speaker 13: I just had a couple of quick thoughts.
- 31:19Speaker 12: I remember I called it.
- 31:20Speaker 13: Probably about like a month or two ago, saying that
- 31:23Speaker 13: any of you were opposed to take a running back?
- 31:27Speaker 13: And I remember Fred said yeah later in the draft.
- 31:30Speaker 13: And I was watching the draft yesterday and I didn't
- 31:34Speaker 13: really expect to take them a running back in the
- 31:37Speaker 13: second round. But this dude seems like pretty legit. And
- 31:41Speaker 13: my question to you guys is do you think that
- 31:44Speaker 13: there's going to be a big competition between Stevenston and
- 31:49Speaker 13: Henderson or do you think the workload will be sort
- 31:52Speaker 13: of even fifty fifty?
- 31:54Speaker 12: Thank you guys.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Yeah, so how are they going to use these guys.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't of competitions necessarily the right word, because
- 32:02Speaker 5: I think they're so complimentary that they're each going to
- 32:05Speaker 5: have their roles and their situations that they're going to
- 32:07Speaker 5: be playing in game to game, So they're gonna just
- 32:10Speaker 5: kind of be a duo or tandem. You know, I
- 32:13Speaker 5: don't know if it's going to be necessarily you know,
- 32:17Speaker 5: deeper than that, right, like in terms of competition. So
- 32:20Speaker 5: you know, I've made the comparison to you know, you're
- 32:23Speaker 5: trying to it's obviously a ceiling of what it could
- 32:26Speaker 5: potentially be. But you know, David Montgomery and Jamier Gibbs
- 32:29Speaker 5: and Detroit like, those two guys both have roles, they
- 32:31Speaker 5: both have, you know, what they do best, and they
- 32:34Speaker 5: use them in that spot. You know. The Jets kind
- 32:36Speaker 5: of have like a watered down version of it with
- 32:38Speaker 5: bres Hall and Braylen Allen like that. That sort of thing.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Absolutely, just real quick on the previous pick that the
- 32:45Speaker 3: Patriots made Craig Woodson, I just saw raw buddy Bryan
- 32:49Speaker 3: Hines put a tweet out with a quote from Daniel
- 32:53Speaker 3: Jeremiah who talked about I guess he was on move
- 32:58Speaker 3: the sticks. Somewhere in the pre draft process, he says
- 33:02Speaker 3: this of Craig woods and he's one of those guys
- 33:04Speaker 3: where I don't kind of know what I'm missing, Like
- 33:06Speaker 3: he's got enough size, he takes the ball away. He
- 33:08Speaker 3: ran in the mid four fours. I talked to the
- 33:10Speaker 3: guys at CAL, like he's a super smart, great leader.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Cal's been a sneaky good secondary factory over the years.
- 33:15Speaker 3: He's one I think to me, I haven't liked the
- 33:18Speaker 3: early third early mid third round. And maybe he goes
- 33:22Speaker 3: in like the fifth round, but when all was said
- 33:24Speaker 3: and done, I think you'll look up and he'll be
- 33:26Speaker 3: starting next year. So like that, Daniel Jeremiah is pretty
- 33:30Speaker 3: high on Craig Woodson. He goes in the fourth round,
- 33:33Speaker 3: and you know he liked him. Maybe in the middle
- 33:35Speaker 3: of the third he thought that maybe he projected to
- 33:37Speaker 3: the fifth maybe a little bit later, but he thought
- 33:40Speaker 3: he was one of the better late round players on
- 33:42Speaker 3: his board. I mean maybe, and Daniel Jeremiah is pretty good.
- 33:45Speaker 8: Yeah, maybe this will end up being kind of a
- 33:47Speaker 8: barometer pick because the previous four picks, I think we
- 33:50Speaker 8: all kind of felt like this is best player available.
- 33:53Speaker 7: This makes sense.
- 33:54Speaker 8: You know, maybe this is the player that we're going
- 33:56Speaker 8: to look back and said, wow, they kind of found
- 33:58Speaker 8: a gem that was off the beaten path a little bit.
- 34:00Speaker 7: It not too much.
- 34:01Speaker 8: I mean we all acknowledged the need for a free
- 34:03Speaker 8: safety type, but still I think that's where you give
- 34:06Speaker 8: guys more credit, players like this who aren't. I mean,
- 34:09Speaker 8: everybody you know knows exactly what the players.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Thanks for Buddy Bryan Hines for yeah, putting that out
- 34:15Speaker 3: on Twitter.
- 34:16Speaker 5: You do. Also you wonder what it means for both
- 34:19Speaker 5: Kyle Dugger and Jabriel Peppers, and they've been really big
- 34:22Speaker 5: on competition in all areas of the roster, and Dugger's
- 34:26Speaker 5: coming off a really down year, coming off an injury.
- 34:29Speaker 5: I didn't get what you were expecting out of him.
- 34:31Speaker 5: And then obviously with Peppers, with what went on off
- 34:34Speaker 5: the field, I don't think that those two guys are
- 34:37Speaker 5: as certain as maybe we thought they were this time
- 34:40Speaker 5: last year. So yeah, if you're surprised that they added
- 34:43Speaker 5: a safety, I think that it comes down to that.
- 34:45Speaker 5: You know, they didn't get the production out of those
- 34:48Speaker 5: two players that they were expecting, so you have to
- 34:50Speaker 5: add competition. I think it's similar as running back where
- 34:53Speaker 5: ramondro Stevenson did not have the year that they were
- 34:56Speaker 5: expecting him to have last year, so they drafted running
- 34:59Speaker 5: back high and in some competition.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Mike's in Puerto Rico. Hey, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike's not there.
- 35:09Speaker 4: Let's go to Boston Cream. Hey, Boston Cream.
- 35:13Speaker 14: Hey guys, great stop show. I'm kind of catching up
- 35:15Speaker 14: on the podcast. But quick question, I don't know if
- 35:19Speaker 14: it's been brought up, but do we know that this
- 35:22Speaker 14: is the last player drafted from Washington State since Drew.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Bled stuff for the Patriots and Cowboy.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't don't know off the top of my head,
- 35:33Speaker 3: but we will never know.
- 35:36Speaker 5: He's asking or he's telling.
- 35:37Speaker 4: Molloy was Washington, right, Yeah, I don't.
- 35:41Speaker 14: Sorry, I'm telling I'm just not sure if it's been
- 35:43Speaker 14: brought up. So I'm wondering if Paul has a special
- 35:45Speaker 14: connection to this player.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Now No, probably, yeah I do.
- 35:50Speaker 14: And also, is the last safety pick a little we
- 35:55Speaker 14: are considering Billy Bowman was on the board.
- 35:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that those were the it's a fair question.
- 36:02Speaker 5: I've gravitated a little bit more towards Billy Bowman and
- 36:05Speaker 5: Malachi Moore in the similar role that they drafted Woodson
- 36:10Speaker 5: to play. So I would be interested to know what
- 36:13Speaker 5: they saw in Woodson that they didn't see in those
- 36:16Speaker 5: two guys. My guests, just total guests. He has a
- 36:19Speaker 5: little bit more size than those two players. Those two
- 36:22Speaker 5: guys are a little bit undersized for the position, So
- 36:25Speaker 5: maybe that's what they're thinking. But I had more on
- 36:28Speaker 5: my big board. I was a big fan of Billy
- 36:31Speaker 5: Bowman's as well. Similar type of players, similar type of roles,
- 36:35Speaker 5: and I would have personally drafted one of those guys
- 36:39Speaker 5: over Woodson. But they obviously liked Woodson.
- 36:43Speaker 3: So here we are Boston Cream is correct Drew Bledsoe
- 36:46Speaker 3: nineteen ninety three. No Patriot chosen out of Washington State.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Since okay, it's a draft history.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Did you like Arian Smith wide receiver because he went
- 36:56Speaker 4: to the Jets?
- 37:00Speaker 5: That's funny why I thought Arion Smith can be like
- 37:02Speaker 5: a seventh round pick. Oh yeah, So so you know,
- 37:06Speaker 5: we're getting into the range of the draft now where
- 37:09Speaker 5: I feel like we're kind of a little bit all
- 37:10Speaker 5: over the place with where people's boards are, like Deon Walker,
- 37:13Speaker 5: Ty Robinson to Philly, Like those picks make sense in
- 37:17Speaker 5: this range to me. Arian Smith. That does not That
- 37:21Speaker 5: does not make much sense to me.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Okay, and I don't know which one this is. George's
- 37:28Speaker 3: receiver struggled this year. I saw a number of Georgia
- 37:30Speaker 3: games where they just could not hold on to the football.
- 37:32Speaker 5: Yeah, catching the balls challenging.
- 37:34Speaker 3: I don't know if he's one of them.
- 37:36Speaker 5: He is. Yeah, he's got a lot of athleticism, a
- 37:39Speaker 5: lot of you know, traits that you like in terms
- 37:41Speaker 5: of separation, but he had trouble catching them.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Reading his analysis on ESPN, Smith is a lean receiver
- 37:48Speaker 3: who was plagued by ugly drops. In twenty twenty four,
- 37:51Speaker 3: he averaged seventeen yards per catch outstanding combine workout explodes
- 37:55Speaker 3: out the line that maybe maybe he's one of those
- 37:58Speaker 3: guys that focus drops as they like to say, yes
- 38:01Speaker 3: and if he can fix that. But I watched Georgia
- 38:03Speaker 3: quite a few times this year, and I don't love
- 38:05Speaker 3: their quarterback play. I didn't love Carson Beck, but they
- 38:08Speaker 3: did not get a lot of help from their receivers.
- 38:11Speaker 4: John Wrights instance, I know Paul likes games. This game.
- 38:14Speaker 4: You choose which one of these seemed more ridiculous coming
- 38:17Speaker 4: into the draft. T Mac falling out of the top ten,
- 38:21Speaker 4: or Matthew Golden being the first receiver taken. What was
- 38:25Speaker 4: what would be more ridiculous. I don't think either one
- 38:29Speaker 4: of them are really ridiculous.
- 38:31Speaker 3: No, I think I think that both of those guys
- 38:33Speaker 3: got taken around where people thought they would get taken.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Yeah, one of the top three tackles fall.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I mean, didn't t Mac go eight?
- 38:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so something like that.
- 38:42Speaker 3: He went to the Panthers at eight. Right, that's somehow
- 38:45Speaker 3: like where everybody thought he was going to.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Go one of the top three tackles falling to the
- 38:49Speaker 4: late twenties, or New England trading out of the pick.
- 38:53Speaker 3: One of the three tackles falling to the late twenties.
- 38:56Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 38:57Speaker 4: But who do you consider the top three? I don't know.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Assume he's talking Campbell, Banks and Membo. Membo.
- 39:05Speaker 4: Those are the three times one of the top one of.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Those top three falling into the twenties would have been
- 39:10Speaker 3: I think probably pretty unrealistic.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Evan wearing a suit to a blue collar draft or
- 39:15Speaker 4: Duce getting upset that his defense didn't get any help
- 39:18Speaker 4: to in the first two days.
- 39:22Speaker 3: He got over it. He did a good job of
- 39:24Speaker 3: getting over.
- 39:24Speaker 4: It and ps, I'm low key starting to hate Christian
- 39:27Speaker 4: in LA but I still have a lot of hate
- 39:29Speaker 4: for Patty taking ten minutes to ask his questions.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Wow, yeah, it's good sell caller on color Crime. I'm
- 39:36Speaker 3: here for it. Sure always.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Let's see. I know Evan, this is Michael. I know
- 39:43Speaker 4: Evan wants the edge, but Farmer might be a good
- 39:45Speaker 4: value here with his Barmore comp Joshua Farmer.
- 39:50Speaker 5: Josh Yeah, I don't see Barmore when I watched Joshua Farmer.
- 39:55Speaker 5: But I've heard that comp. And I'm like coming at
- 39:58Speaker 5: the emailer for making the comp. I don't see that
- 40:01Speaker 5: kind of player.
- 40:02Speaker 3: And I mean value wise, I mean he's up on
- 40:05Speaker 3: a lot of these lists as one of the guys.
- 40:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 3: No, I thought that he was among the best available
- 40:10Speaker 3: talent under I.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Thought that he was maybe in play there at one
- 40:13Speaker 5: O six.
- 40:14Speaker 3: And yeah, and in fairness, I'm sure that email came
- 40:16Speaker 3: in before they actually made the pick at one O six.
- 40:19Speaker 4: Most storing interesting Patriots fan in the world, James Pettigrew says,
- 40:23Speaker 4: dare I say it are the days of being scared
- 40:26Speaker 4: of the draft over? I remember being in studio for
- 40:28Speaker 4: the Razi Dowling pick and I was forever scarred.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Yeah, this is uh, this is as good as I
- 40:36Speaker 3: think we've collectively felt about a draft.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Sean and Vancouver Mike Jack Sawyer is still there LFG.
- 40:44Speaker 7: Yeah, I'd be I'd be yeah, I'd be happy with that.
- 40:47Speaker 3: I don't think that's Mike's favorite option. Well, he wants
- 40:50Speaker 3: an edge, but I mean.
- 40:51Speaker 8: Look, I got to be consistent with what I said,
- 40:53Speaker 8: and I think the issue that I just am concerned
- 40:55Speaker 8: with his past rush death and I banged that drum
- 40:58Speaker 8: last year and what happened Matthew Judong got traded and
- 41:00Speaker 8: all of a sudden, I mean they had no I
- 41:03Speaker 8: mean thirtieth and pressure rates, so you know, with a
- 41:06Speaker 8: hugely important part of the defense.
- 41:08Speaker 3: And you know, I think their defense is just as
- 41:11Speaker 3: bad as.
- 41:11Speaker 8: That as the great ben Volan pooned out. I mean
- 41:15Speaker 8: they've picked what thirteen picks, and the fourteen last picks,
- 41:19Speaker 8: one of them has been on the defensive side of
- 41:21Speaker 8: the ball, you know, I know, Well that's you know indeed,
- 41:26Speaker 8: but it's it's it's Look, there's been plenty of attention
- 41:29Speaker 8: on the defense and free agency, but going back to
- 41:32Speaker 8: last year too, you know, just.
- 41:34Speaker 4: Want I hear.
- 41:39Speaker 7: Day three flags of this defense.
- 41:41Speaker 8: I think everybody acknowledges though at a certain point this
- 41:43Speaker 8: will catch up. You need to continue to stock some
- 41:45Speaker 8: young talent and hopefully they draft some guys here over
- 41:48Speaker 8: these last few rounds that do.
- 41:50Speaker 7: Develop into something. But as as.
- 41:52Speaker 8: I've learned working with Paul and then this is you know,
- 41:55Speaker 8: it's hard to expect anything out of anybody drafted from
- 41:57Speaker 8: this point on.
- 41:58Speaker 7: It's great machine.
- 41:59Speaker 3: You get any greats. Don't confuse, not expect, but.
- 42:03Speaker 7: Just don't pencil this guy in as as.
- 42:06Speaker 3: I think a lot of times fans look at the
- 42:08Speaker 3: position that they took and they drafted him, so that
- 42:10Speaker 3: means you addressed it. Whereas the vast majority of the
- 42:13Speaker 3: guys that you take in those with those picks will
- 42:15Speaker 3: not address the need. But that doesn't mean that they
- 42:19Speaker 3: never will. You know, Michael Wenu was a Day three
- 42:20Speaker 3: guy he addressed indeed like it happened, But.
- 42:23Speaker 8: It's more like you know, like you said, like you're
- 42:25Speaker 8: present pleasantly surprised instead of sure, okay, Michael, And when
- 42:28Speaker 8: you asked six round pick, he'll be He'll be.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Starting to writeuard how many how many wide receivers have
- 42:32Speaker 3: they taken in the sixth and seventh round that have
- 42:34Speaker 3: been considered.
- 42:35Speaker 8: To be at many so many to go down the list, well,
- 42:38Speaker 8: I mean just recently had the I mean Ermi Gallan Nixon, but.
- 42:43Speaker 7: Even yeah Tree Nixon was the one I was I
- 42:45Speaker 7: was talking about.
- 42:45Speaker 3: No, Devin Lucien.
- 42:47Speaker 5: I would just I just I like some of the
- 42:49Speaker 5: talents still on the on the board here at edge,
- 42:52Speaker 5: and I think some of these guys can really play.
- 42:54Speaker 5: And this class is just unique in that respect that
- 42:57Speaker 5: it has, you know, a loaded group at that position.
- 42:59Speaker 3: So you might have been very high on the edges. Yeah,
- 43:02Speaker 3: for a long time.
- 43:03Speaker 5: You know if you look at you know, Jack Sawyer
- 43:05Speaker 5: still there, as we've been saying, Brandy and Swinston still
- 43:09Speaker 5: there from Lsu, Baron Sorel from Texas, Kyle Canard from
- 43:12Speaker 5: South Carolina, like if Deuce wants like just a pure
- 43:15Speaker 5: pass rusher, like you're saying, Kway Robinson from Alabama has
- 43:18Speaker 5: some of the most fun pass rush tape out of
- 43:21Speaker 5: any of these guys that are still available. Antoine Powell
- 43:24Speaker 5: Ryland from Virginia Tech's another guy that can really rush
- 43:26Speaker 5: the passer. So I still think that there's like four
- 43:29Speaker 5: or five guys that are true edge rushers that can
- 43:32Speaker 5: rush the passer and rush the quarterback and have a
- 43:35Speaker 5: third down roll. David Walker from Central Arkansas is another one,
- 43:39Speaker 5: small school guy that's still out and available. So I
- 43:44Speaker 5: would like to see them grab one of those guys.
- 43:46Speaker 5: I think that this their rookie class looks great. Their
- 43:49Speaker 5: draft picks look great so far, but it's it's missing
- 43:51Speaker 5: that it's missing that that player on the edge, and
- 43:54Speaker 5: hopefully they get it. CJ. West really good pick by
- 43:56Speaker 5: the Niners.
- 43:57Speaker 3: You know what I did, I would tell you my
- 43:59Speaker 3: my big, big guy with the small number theory.
- 44:02Speaker 7: I love those.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Guys, big guys, small numbers. You know what it means
- 44:08Speaker 3: to me, Mike, is it means that that guy is
- 44:10Speaker 3: a really good athlete. I'm that serious.
- 44:12Speaker 13: I'm not.
- 44:13Speaker 7: This is not it's not just the visual thing.
- 44:14Speaker 3: It's not.
- 44:15Speaker 7: It's the contrary.
- 44:16Speaker 3: There's the reason that he had that number because but
- 44:19Speaker 3: he had the number when he was smaller and more
- 44:21Speaker 3: something something. It's not typical that like these three hundred
- 44:25Speaker 3: pound guys or you know, we're number eight. You know,
- 44:28Speaker 3: there had to be some reason.
- 44:30Speaker 4: I think, like Brian Morey was seven at BU.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Almost almost almost universally, those guys are more athletic than
- 44:38Speaker 3: their position. And that guy, the Indiana guy, CJ.
- 44:42Speaker 5: West, he's a game pretty good player. Yeah, he's a
- 44:45Speaker 5: really good player and penetrating nose tackle. You don't see
- 44:48Speaker 5: a ton of those like this. Is not a space eater,
- 44:50Speaker 5: he's an up the field nose tackle, really good online games,
- 44:54Speaker 5: really good at penetrating the line of scrimmage. He was
- 44:56Speaker 5: one of my favorite guys in this draft.
- 44:57Speaker 3: So, Mike your your defense thing, you know, And I
- 45:01Speaker 3: again I totally agree with you and Evan when you
- 45:04Speaker 3: talk about the need to continue to address I just
- 45:09Speaker 3: feel like they had no options in some of these
- 45:12Speaker 3: spots on offense. What they've done on defense is they've
- 45:15Speaker 3: put stop gaps in. So I think that you're serviceable
- 45:20Speaker 3: in need of more. On offense, you didn't have a
- 45:23Speaker 3: left tackle, you might not have a guard, you know,
- 45:27Speaker 3: you did not have a playmaking wide receiver. Really, you
- 45:31Speaker 3: have a stopgap in digs and that's about it. So
- 45:36Speaker 3: you have to hope to your point, they had they
- 45:39Speaker 3: let go of Matthew Judon, Harold l Andry's got to give
- 45:42Speaker 3: him some something, you know, in the pass rush, and
- 45:47Speaker 3: then you have to look ahead and say, Okay, that's
- 45:49Speaker 3: going to be on a small list of things when
- 45:50Speaker 3: we're talking next November, December, January, hopefully not till January
- 45:54Speaker 3: when we start talking about the draft next time that
- 45:58Speaker 3: you know it's going to be an edge guy. Yeah,
- 46:00Speaker 3: it's going to be a top flight weapon wide receiver.
- 46:03Speaker 3: You know those are you know, hopefully you can pigeonhole
- 46:06Speaker 3: it and find some dynamic play players at those positions.
- 46:09Speaker 3: But I wouldn't necessarily be in despair, like where's the
- 46:15Speaker 3: pass rusher? You know? Like, and I do think they
- 46:17Speaker 3: have some stop depth. Robert Splain will probably give them
- 46:20Speaker 3: a little bit of a.
- 46:20Speaker 7: You you laid it out. Yeah, you laid it out wonderfully, Paul.
- 46:24Speaker 8: And I even add another to that, it's like, oh,
- 46:26Speaker 8: by the way, Douce, they signed Milk Williams, who was
- 46:28Speaker 8: the best pass rusher available in this free agency class
- 46:30Speaker 8: and is you know, an absolute terror. And they also
- 46:32Speaker 8: might be getting that Christian Barmore. So you know, it's
- 46:35Speaker 8: you're always chasing. You're never gonna have everything right.
- 46:37Speaker 7: There's always going to be you.
- 46:40Speaker 8: But what you just said, Paul about next year we're
- 46:42Speaker 8: probably talking about now it's time to find that number
- 46:44Speaker 8: one receiver and the edge like and.
- 46:47Speaker 3: Again that doesn't mean that I don't want to do
- 46:48Speaker 3: the Evan Mike thing and and get one of these
- 46:51Speaker 3: guys on my l s U guy or Jack Sawyer.
- 46:53Speaker 3: I mean, you know, somebody just if it's that, if
- 46:57Speaker 3: you guys are writing there is that much depth at
- 46:58Speaker 3: the edge.
- 47:00Speaker 8: I mean not to oversimplify it, but you know, I
- 47:02Speaker 8: always talk about the big five positions, and right now
- 47:04Speaker 8: you feel like a quarterback. They got Drake May at cornerback.
- 47:07Speaker 8: They have Christian Zalaz at left tackle. Now they have
- 47:10Speaker 8: Will Campbell, and you know what's left is really we
- 47:13Speaker 8: could talk ourselves into Diggs. Maybe maybe he still has
- 47:16Speaker 8: some of that juice of being that guy, but is
- 47:19Speaker 8: there a long term elite edge presence. I think those
- 47:22Speaker 8: are the five positions, So those last two are you know,
- 47:24Speaker 8: and I think they've done a lot of wide receiver.
- 47:26Speaker 8: They've done enough to make me feel like they have
- 47:28Speaker 8: some players that are going to be able to change
- 47:30Speaker 8: this offense to make it more explosive. And that's the
- 47:33Speaker 8: exciting fact. We've talked all the last two days about it.
- 47:37Speaker 7: This is an offense league. This is about scoring.
- 47:39Speaker 8: This is about the passing game, and ultimately that's where
- 47:42Speaker 8: you're going to live and die. I don't need to
- 47:44Speaker 8: stock up on defense and make that the focus. This
- 47:47Speaker 8: offense needs to catch up to the rest of the NFL.
- 47:49Speaker 8: We've been saying it too long, So in that regard,
- 47:51Speaker 8: totally get it. It's just I'm always going to be looking at, well,
- 47:54Speaker 8: where's the need, where's the potential flaw? Where are we
- 47:56Speaker 8: one injury away from oboy Because I mean, honestly would
- 48:00Speaker 8: say if Harold Landry got hurt, oh yeah, that's a
- 48:03Speaker 8: big that's a big deal, right, and they get hurt,
- 48:06Speaker 8: they've addressed a lot of vacant needs, which doesn't necessarily
- 48:11Speaker 8: give you any depth.
- 48:12Speaker 3: It just gives you some players that are plugged in.
- 48:14Speaker 3: You're right, if they were to lose, you know, some
- 48:17Speaker 3: of those guys that they brought in as free agents,
- 48:19Speaker 3: if they if one or two of those guys get hurt,
- 48:21Speaker 3: I think they're really relying on those guysat up a
- 48:23Speaker 3: lot of snaps.
- 48:23Speaker 5: Well, you know, when you talk about depth out, that
- 48:25Speaker 5: was basically what Elliott Wolf said last night about today,
- 48:29Speaker 5: and that was we still feel like we have some
- 48:31Speaker 5: holes on the depth chart. Uh, you know, in terms
- 48:34Speaker 5: of depth on defense, not necessarily our frontline starters, but
- 48:38Speaker 5: you know, developmental free safety, right you know, backup safety. Uh,
- 48:43Speaker 5: maybe a rotational edge rusher or a backup edge rusher
- 48:46Speaker 5: rep there. You know that that type of stuff is
- 48:49Speaker 5: I think where they're trying to go today. And they're
- 48:52Speaker 5: not gonna be stars, maybe none of them will be stars,
- 48:54Speaker 5: but can they be your third safety? Can they be
- 48:58Speaker 5: a rotational pass rusher on third down off the edge?
- 49:01Speaker 5: You know that that's what they're kind of looking for
- 49:04Speaker 5: right now today. And I just listening to Deuce talk about
- 49:07Speaker 5: his concerns about the depth there in the pass rush.
- 49:11Speaker 5: It really brings back, brings me back to Keon White.
- 49:14Speaker 5: Like Keon White, I feel like needs to be uh,
- 49:17Speaker 5: he needs to take a next step as an outside rusher.
- 49:19Speaker 4: I don't think it's fair to to put it on
- 49:22Speaker 4: him to like be a pass rusher. He wasn't in college.
- 49:25Speaker 5: Well, he's an interior. It's an he's an interior pass rusher.
- 49:28Speaker 4: He's a he's a pocket pusher. He can be a
- 49:31Speaker 4: disruptor for sure, but he's not a sack guy.
- 49:34Speaker 5: I don't need him to be a sack guy. I
- 49:35Speaker 5: need to I want him to pressure the quarterback like
- 49:38Speaker 5: I think Carold Landry's here to to sack people. I
- 49:40Speaker 5: mean that that's a guy that can get up to
- 49:42Speaker 5: double digit sacks. But you want, you know, Milton Williams,
- 49:45Speaker 5: Christian Barmore, Keon White, you want those guys being the
- 49:48Speaker 5: one that are pushing the quarterback towards Harold Landry so
- 49:51Speaker 5: that he can go ahead and clean it up. And
- 49:53Speaker 5: I look at Keon White as a player that right
- 49:57Speaker 5: now probably has the highest upside to be what Deuce
- 50:00Speaker 5: is looking for on the current roster. Him and I
- 50:03Speaker 5: have been kind of lockstep on it, thinking that he's
- 50:06Speaker 5: not really that kind of guide like your point, Fred,
- 50:08Speaker 5: you know, especially coming off the edge, like it's just
- 50:11Speaker 5: not really been his strong suit since he's been here
- 50:14Speaker 5: or even in college. But you know, maybe with Terrell
- 50:16Speaker 5: Williams and Mike Rabel, they're able to school him up
- 50:18Speaker 5: and they're improve Yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I think at this point you're probably
- 50:23Speaker 8: looking more at key On White as your right defensive
- 50:26Speaker 8: end on early downs and you, as Paul said, rotate
- 50:29Speaker 8: in chase on on passing downs and you know, I
- 50:31Speaker 8: don't have anything against ke On White. I think he's
- 50:34Speaker 8: really good inside. But they have Mount Williams, they have
- 50:37Speaker 8: Christian Barmore. There's only so many gaps on the inside
- 50:39Speaker 8: of the offensive line that you can, you know, put
- 50:41Speaker 8: rushers over. So I hope they find a way to
- 50:44Speaker 8: use him. I hope that they're able to unlock him
- 50:47Speaker 8: a little bit. I know he's a unique player played
- 50:49Speaker 8: on the offensive side of the ball. So there's a
- 50:52Speaker 8: lot of intrigue there, no question about it. But it's
- 50:55Speaker 8: up to Terrell Williams to find what I just like.
- 50:58Speaker 4: Like they're building a roster on defense that looks like
- 51:03Speaker 4: they're going to be able to take advantage of some mismatch,
- 51:06Speaker 4: you know, and create some mismatches and really, you know,
- 51:11Speaker 4: be a defensive team where, you know, certain games, depending
- 51:15Speaker 4: on what the offense is, we're gonna be able to
- 51:17Speaker 4: use key On White a certain way. In this game,
- 51:19Speaker 4: Milton Williams is gonna eat because there's something going on
- 51:23Speaker 4: in the middle there that he's going to be taking advance.
- 51:25Speaker 4: And we've got enough complimentary players we're building that toward
- 51:30Speaker 4: being able to take advantage of situations.
- 51:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I'd like to.
- 51:33Speaker 8: I mean, you'd like to spread the offense out, and
- 51:35Speaker 8: it feels like right now the offensive line can focus
- 51:39Speaker 8: on the middle and focus on giving help to protect
- 51:41Speaker 8: against what Milton Williams and Christian Barmore are so good at,
- 51:44Speaker 8: which is getting upfield being disruptive. So in my mind,
- 51:48Speaker 8: it's just if you have that speed guy on the outside,
- 51:51Speaker 8: now it's like it's hard to give help to the
- 51:54Speaker 8: tackle and the guard, and you know, you start to
- 51:57Speaker 8: spread it.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Out even more. So it's all it's about matchups.
- 52:00Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a lot of riding on Harold Landry, you know,
- 52:03Speaker 5: to go back to the rusher he was two years
- 52:05Speaker 5: ago and Rabeles last year in Tennessee last year. There's
- 52:09Speaker 5: two ways looking at it. You can either say that
- 52:11Speaker 5: you know, he's starting to hit the wall a little
- 52:14Speaker 5: bit older in his career, you know, later on in
- 52:15Speaker 5: his career, or you could say he changed systems. It
- 52:19Speaker 5: wasn't a fit for him what they were doing last
- 52:21Speaker 5: year in Tennessee. And now he's going to go back
- 52:24Speaker 5: to playing in the Mike rabel defense that he thrived
- 52:26Speaker 5: in as a Titan, and he'll be the player he
- 52:29Speaker 5: was in twenty twenty three instead of the player he
- 52:32Speaker 5: was in twenty twenty four. And if they get that
- 52:34Speaker 5: Harold Landry, then at least for next year. It's kind
- 52:37Speaker 5: of like with Stefan Diggs, like you feel a little
- 52:38Speaker 5: bit better about the outlook of the whole thing.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Matt writes, saying, I'm not sure what our obsession is
- 52:45Speaker 4: with smaller wide receivers that are quick. I wanted a
- 52:48Speaker 4: Horton type wide receiver who was still available when we
- 52:51Speaker 4: drafted Kyle Williams. Do you think Horton has a better
- 52:53Speaker 4: chance of being an actual starter versus Kyle Williams.
- 52:57Speaker 3: I think Kyle Williams is fast. I don't think he's
- 53:00Speaker 3: just quick.
- 53:01Speaker 5: Yeah. I had a tough time with Tory Horton because
- 53:04Speaker 5: he had a big twenty twenty three and then he
- 53:06Speaker 5: got hurt last year and missed most of the season
- 53:09Speaker 5: last year, and everybody kept on telling me go back
- 53:12Speaker 5: to twenty twenty three and watch him then and all that.
- 53:15Speaker 5: And I thought that he had some flashes, but I didn't.
- 53:20Speaker 5: I didn't swoon over Tory Horton. I wasn't crazy about
- 53:23Speaker 5: him as a player. I thought he was pretty raw
- 53:26Speaker 5: as a route runner. You know it doesn't really do
- 53:28Speaker 5: it for me. If you're just running crossing routes, you know,
- 53:30Speaker 5: away from defenders and catching balls and tons of space
- 53:34Speaker 5: like that, I want to see some technical savvy, some
- 53:37Speaker 5: route running ability, you know, that sort of thing. I
- 53:39Speaker 5: think Kyle Williams is a better route runner than Tory Horton,
- 53:43Speaker 5: and in.
- 53:43Speaker 3: General I liked the email because I kind of feel
- 53:46Speaker 3: like that I want faster guys with some size over
- 53:49Speaker 3: the smaller, quick guys. But I think that Kyle Williams
- 53:52Speaker 3: is getting sold short in that description.
- 53:54Speaker 8: You know what impress me watching a little Kyle Williams
- 53:57Speaker 8: last night was the contested catchability. That was something that
- 54:00Speaker 8: didn't really stick out to me initially, but number of
- 54:03Speaker 8: downfield catches where he's got some guys on him, and
- 54:05Speaker 8: for not being the biggest player, seems to have a
- 54:08Speaker 8: pretty good knack for high pointing the ball using his
- 54:11Speaker 8: I mean, the separation is apparent.
- 54:13Speaker 7: I've and look at the Travis Hunter clip. We put
- 54:15Speaker 7: that on loop.
- 54:16Speaker 8: But the second you take a wrong step on Kyle Williams,
- 54:20Speaker 8: he's going the other bit.
- 54:21Speaker 4: A while since, we've had a guy who when he
- 54:24Speaker 4: comes to says, this is a guy who can get open.
- 54:26Speaker 8: And that's what I'm so that's what I'm interested to
- 54:28Speaker 8: see in camp, you know, because I talk all the
- 54:30Speaker 8: time about when we went to the Raiders joint practice
- 54:32Speaker 8: and I'm watching DeVante Adams.
- 54:34Speaker 7: Like, so, this is what it looks like when you
- 54:36Speaker 7: got a dude.
- 54:37Speaker 8: Not that I'm expecting Kyle Williams to be that player,
- 54:39Speaker 8: but just to see what that speed looks like. We
- 54:42Speaker 8: drafted Taekwon Thornton in four to three, what's.
- 54:44Speaker 7: This look like?
- 54:45Speaker 8: Didn't ever really look I mean, other than warm ups
- 54:47Speaker 8: maybe when he was running over those cones, they were like, oh,
- 54:49Speaker 8: Taekwon's opening it up, but you never saw it really translate.
- 54:52Speaker 8: And this is something that I'm sure you guys watch
- 54:55Speaker 8: plenty with guys like Edelman and Welker, just guys who
- 54:57Speaker 8: they're going the other way, and it's all of a sudden, there's,
- 54:59Speaker 8: you know, couple feet of separation.
- 55:01Speaker 4: Nick and the Poconot's rites in great show last night,
- 55:03Speaker 4: especially enjoyed the after show. I was enjoying the late
- 55:06Speaker 4: quiet of the night when everyone is asleep and no
- 55:08Speaker 4: one needs anything from me, and suddenly I heard Evan's
- 55:11Speaker 4: voice on a hot mic between Deuce dropping f bombs
- 55:14Speaker 4: and Evan complaining about the heat and his lack of
- 55:16Speaker 4: remaining players on the big board. It was an entertaining listen.
- 55:20Speaker 4: I was impressed on how quickly they transitioned to the
- 55:22Speaker 4: professional recap when the camera started rolling, and chuckled at Evan,
- 55:26Speaker 4: marveling that it didn't go off the rails at the end.
- 55:29Speaker 4: It was great insight into your process. Thank you for
- 55:31Speaker 4: all you do. Fred turned down the thermostat was that
- 55:34Speaker 4: your wrap up shot?
- 55:35Speaker 7: That was a wrap up show that we shot, which
- 55:37Speaker 7: is which goes by?
- 55:38Speaker 3: I didn't get.
- 55:40Speaker 4: What are you doing, Matt. You're getting these guys.
- 55:42Speaker 5: On the streams.
- 55:42Speaker 7: The streams are on, the streams are open.
- 55:45Speaker 5: That's okay. We were just talking ball so nothing.
- 55:48Speaker 7: So if you're ever listening to any of the shows,
- 55:50Speaker 7: just let it go for a little while. You never
- 55:51Speaker 7: know what you might get.
- 55:54Speaker 3: But that was the real friends someday who knows.
- 55:57Speaker 4: I don't think I've never done anybody go recently that
- 56:06Speaker 4: of note. Trevor Ettn went to Georgia back, went to
- 56:11Speaker 4: the Panthers.
- 56:12Speaker 5: Yeah, Woody Marx went to the Texans, who I really
- 56:15Speaker 5: like what he marks a lot. He reminds me probably
- 56:18Speaker 5: the most out of anybody in this class of James
- 56:21Speaker 5: White like that that type of player, really good change direction.
- 56:24Speaker 3: Nick cRIO really liked him because he moved up.
- 56:28Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, run run on running backs if you will
- 56:32Speaker 5: now come in. So you had Skataboo at the top
- 56:34Speaker 5: of the round, uh, Trevor Etn, Woody Marks, and now
- 56:38Speaker 5: Jarquez Hunter from Auburn just went to the Rams. So
- 56:42Speaker 5: a good fit for the Rams, you know, outside zone back,
- 56:44Speaker 5: duo back, good downhill runner, one cut ability. I like
- 56:49Speaker 5: to fit for them as well. But Houston's drafted a
- 56:52Speaker 5: couple of guys, as they tend to do, that could
- 56:55Speaker 5: have been Patriots in an alternate universe. They drafted both
- 56:58Speaker 5: Iowa state wide receivers, they drafted Arianti ursery tackle, and
- 57:03Speaker 5: now they drafted Woody Mark. So four guys that I
- 57:06Speaker 5: easily could have seen being Patriots by the end of
- 57:09Speaker 5: this drafter are Texans. So you can tell that there's
- 57:12Speaker 5: still They're still kind of great and on a similar
- 57:15Speaker 5: scale those two teams, it feels.
- 57:17Speaker 4: Like Mitch and Albany. Do you guys also hate all
- 57:20Speaker 4: the special announcers for just about every pick. I understand
- 57:23Speaker 4: why they do it, but it really drags on and
- 57:25Speaker 4: slows everything down. Also, would be completely unprecedented for Shador
- 57:29Speaker 4: to go totally undrafted.
- 57:32Speaker 3: I think we're kind of in unprecedented territory now for
- 57:36Speaker 3: a guy that was so universally considered a first round
- 57:40Speaker 3: pick to have not been taken at all for no
- 57:44Speaker 3: like arrest. You know, we're not talking about legal issues
- 57:49Speaker 3: off field. I don't know if can you think of
- 57:52Speaker 3: anybody that was this universally considered to be first second
- 57:56Speaker 3: round at worst.
- 57:57Speaker 4: To go solo to go not well. I mean there's
- 58:00Speaker 4: been guys like Aaron Rodgers. You could consider he's slided,
- 58:03Speaker 4: but he was still in the first round.
- 58:05Speaker 3: He slide it.
- 58:06Speaker 7: Do you think this is having a snowball effect though?
- 58:08Speaker 8: Where the longer it goes, the harder it is for
- 58:11Speaker 8: a team to draft him, because now you're not only
- 58:13Speaker 8: getting that circus, you're getting the circus.
- 58:15Speaker 7: Of why did you?
- 58:16Speaker 4: Why?
- 58:16Speaker 7: What made you tra? You know, it just gets harder
- 58:19Speaker 7: to explain, you know.
- 58:20Speaker 3: Albert Breer actually tweeted a little while ago what we've
- 58:23Speaker 3: been talking about. He said, there's two realities that could
- 58:26Speaker 3: be at play. One is Sanders fill out of the
- 58:28Speaker 3: first round because of talent and performance. Two he's still
- 58:30Speaker 3: available now because of everything else. It's kind of what
- 58:33Speaker 3: we've been touching on here. Uh, you know, is at
- 58:37Speaker 3: this point of the draft, teams are looking for depth
- 58:39Speaker 3: and developmental players. If you're taking in the third round,
- 58:42Speaker 3: of the fourth round and the fifth round, you're going
- 58:43Speaker 3: to be working in the background. That would make Sanders
- 58:46Speaker 3: a backup. Backup quarterbacks need to blend in with the furniture,
- 58:50Speaker 3: you know. It's It's kind of why Tim Tebow and
- 58:52Speaker 3: Colin Kaepernick and even guys like Jay Cutler and Cam
- 58:54Speaker 3: Newton had trouble extending their careers. I wonder if you
- 58:57Speaker 3: know that's part of the fear, now what you just said, Mike, Yeah,
- 59:01Speaker 3: you know, so, I think Albert might be honest.
- 59:03Speaker 8: The other the other funny part of this whole thing, though,
- 59:05Speaker 8: is that, of course, like Paul, you and I, we
- 59:07Speaker 8: don't really often have bets, and yet somehow I bet that.
- 59:10Speaker 7: Ship Nord Sanders was going to go in the top fifteen,
- 59:13Speaker 7: and I owe you a sandwich.
- 59:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you might know him three at this point.
- 59:17Speaker 5: I so Billy Bowman just went to the Falcons, which
- 59:23Speaker 5: is one of those safeties that I was talking about earlier.
- 59:26Speaker 5: It'd be interesting to see, but they put it up
- 59:28Speaker 5: there on the screen. You know, he's five nine one ninety.
- 59:31Speaker 5: The Patriots guy Woodson that the Patriots drafted is a
- 59:35Speaker 5: six feet two hundred pounds, So I think that's probably
- 59:37Speaker 5: where where their mind was at with liking Woodson over
- 59:41Speaker 5: some of those other guys. But I really liked Billy
- 59:43Speaker 5: Bowman on tape. I think he's going to be a
- 59:45Speaker 5: good player. But they I think they liked the size
- 59:47Speaker 5: and the speed a little bit better with what you.
- 59:49Speaker 4: Know, some of the things with the guy that we took.
- 59:52Speaker 4: You know, people say he does need to get a
- 59:55Speaker 4: little bit more physical. He has trouble tackling at times,
- 59:58Speaker 4: although he had seventy tackles last year, so yeah, it
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: seems like a physical guy too.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: But yeah, I think the only concern that I had
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: it with him was, you know, true range over the
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: top to play center field, Like does he He tested well,
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: he ran a four four five, so it looks like
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: he has that kind of speed, But will he that
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: that speed translate? You know, he played in the system
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: that wasn't quite a post safety system. He played much
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: more split safety there at cal So, you know, is
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: he going to have that ability to play a true
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: center field post safety role. We'll see.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: We'll see the hotline eight five to five pats, five
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: hundred Robbies in California. What's up, Robbie?
- 1:00:38Speaker 15: Hey, guys, really enjoying this show.
- 1:00:43Speaker 14: A couple of comments and a few questions for you guys.
- 1:00:47Speaker 15: I really enjoyed.
- 1:00:48Speaker 10: I really liked the draft so far. The first couple
- 1:00:51Speaker 10: of days really good. The I'm comment about the Trador
- 1:00:59Speaker 10: standards if I was kind of enjoying him not getting
- 1:01:03Speaker 10: drafted because I don't like Deon Sanders and all the
- 1:01:07Speaker 10: theater that follows him, but now I'm starting to feel
- 1:01:10Speaker 10: bad about the poor guy. The I will be disappointed
- 1:01:18Speaker 10: if they don't come out with this draft with a
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: couple of edge rushers.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: And I see that.
- 1:01:24Speaker 16: In the fifth round they have a couple of graph
- 1:01:28Speaker 16: picks in the fifth In late in the fifth round,
- 1:01:30Speaker 16: I wonder if they're going to package at least one
- 1:01:33Speaker 16: of those up to move.
- 1:01:34Speaker 12: Up for someone.
- 1:01:35Speaker 14: I wonder who would they move up for?
- 1:01:36Speaker 12: Would it really be Jack.
- 1:01:37Speaker 14: Sawyer or somebody like that?
- 1:01:39Speaker 13: And the second question for you guys is they.
- 1:01:42Speaker 10: Have a couple of crowded rooms, wide receiver and offensive line.
- 1:01:46Speaker 10: I wonder how do you see the I know it's
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: a little early, but how do you.
- 1:01:50Speaker 12: See the two rings shaking out?
- 1:01:52Speaker 14: Who's going to be sort of left out as a team.
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: Thanks Robbie Elliot Wolf was asked about that last.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: The offensive line where it is crowded, don't necessarily think
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: the wide receiver room is. But Evan's been talking about
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: that competition at guard. I think, you know, the city,
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: so someone's got to go.
- 1:02:10Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it might even be somebody that we
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: don't talk a lot about, like Tyrese Robinson.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: You know, but about Iman out of the.
- 1:02:17Speaker 8: Strange, so Robinson and Andrews that for some of them.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and now you throw you know, Wilson and Bradberry
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: in there.
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: Yeah, especially if Wilson proves that he can play some guard.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: I mean there's definitely a world where they say, well,
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: Wilson's one of our best five guys, so maybe Bradberry's are,
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: you know, also one of our best five. So we'll
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: have Bradberry play center and Wilson's gonna play left guard.
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: But that means that those three guys that Paul's mentioning,
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: now you know, you only really need one interior backup,
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: you don't need three. So at some point one of the.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: Strangers, so do they both go like, because I agree
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: with Robbie, I think that's a little crowded right now.
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I guess in theory you could if
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: that does my situation does happen, then you know, Bradbury
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: gets hurt. You can bump Wilson going to the center.
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: But I do wonder if that helps cold Strange a
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: little bit because he can play a little bit of center,
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: so he can kind of back up three different spots
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: there on the interior. Whereas you know So and Robinson
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: are true guards. It's hard to keep a guy that's
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: a one position backup on the offensive line. You usually
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: have to be able to play multiple positions.
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: Can I ask a question, how crazy am I if
- 1:03:20Speaker 8: I hold a very small flame of Cold Strange being
- 1:03:25Speaker 8: a good starting left guard this year, like highly athletic.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: I don't think. I don't think that's out of the
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: Roman possibility. But if you know whoever it is, take
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: the other guys that you know the Jake Andrews is
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: in the city sows and they got to go like, sure,
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: you know, I think Laden Robinson is a year two
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: guy is going to be given an opportunity, you know,
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: to see if he can do the you know, the
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: year two And I thought, I don't think he's going
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: anywhere either, for the same reason. You've got to make
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: sure that he has an ample opportunity to show what
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: he has.
- 1:04:01Speaker 8: That's why I think Evan made a good point one
- 1:04:03Speaker 8: of these shows earlier, just about city, you know, maybe
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: fitting gap schemes a little bit better. Feeling with Josh
- 1:04:09Speaker 8: might want to do a little bit better. Not the
- 1:04:10Speaker 8: best suited for the for the wide zone stuff.
- 1:04:13Speaker 7: But I just like.
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: Cold, strange, super athletic, Like I is there really nothing
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: there is there.
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: I mean, he's had.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: Little flashes where he looked solid, but it's such a
- 1:04:24Speaker 8: wild card.
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: I said it a couple of shows ago, like four
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: years ago.
- 1:04:26Speaker 8: He's a first round pick and you're telling me this
- 1:04:28Speaker 8: guy couldn't just be at least a stop gap at
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: left guard.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: For a year, and you know he had And I
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: was like, you know, Bill saw so much more on
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: him than than a lot of other people. How he
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: couldn't have been that wrong?
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: So, and I know that sounds like I'm taking a
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: shot at Bill. I know it's actually right. I think
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: so much a Bill that I can't believe that he
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: was that.
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: I love how you put it that way.
- 1:04:49Speaker 8: That's it, because that's just that little like, like I said,
- 1:04:51Speaker 8: I'm holding this little flame of just.
- 1:04:52Speaker 7: Like he can't just be okay, like you know, if
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: he's really.
- 1:04:56Speaker 8: Athletic, I'm with you, like I think that the there
- 1:05:00Speaker 8: is that, and he has some experience at center, which
- 1:05:04Speaker 8: offers some versatility as a backup.
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: So, as Evan said, backups need to play multiple positions.
- 1:05:09Speaker 8: So how strange wild he's my wild card this year
- 1:05:13Speaker 8: in camps.
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: You know, could he emerge in But.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: It's going to be interesting to see how those positions fall.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: And my guess is one or two of those guys
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: won't even make it to training. Sure, you know they're
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: going to go through the spring and you're going to see,
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: like the May twenty fifth, the Patriots have released some
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: guy that you know the name, right, But.
- 1:05:35Speaker 8: There's no question, I mean, Doug Marone comes in every coach.
- 1:05:37Speaker 8: There's players you like, there's players that you don't really
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: think can do what you're gonna ask them to do.
- 1:05:42Speaker 8: And I'm sure those opinions are starting to form right
- 1:05:44Speaker 8: now with him, and who knows what will go into it,
- 1:05:47Speaker 8: but I think I think you're right, Paul. They might
- 1:05:48Speaker 8: be a little bit heavy there and there's only so
- 1:05:50Speaker 8: many reps to go around.
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I really feel that the center flex for cole
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: Strange is what's going to help him the most. Like
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: the fact that he truly probably could play all three
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: interior spots where those other two guys really can only
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: play guard. You know that, especially with a rookie that's
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: a twenty one year old and had one season as
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: a starter at Georgia and Jared Wilson and Bradberry's uncertainty
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: in terms of, you know, where he's at in his career.
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: You know, if anything is going to save cole Strange,
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: to me, it's it's that he can play a little
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: bit of center and guard.
- 1:06:21Speaker 8: I mean, it's just interesting if you think about the
- 1:06:23Speaker 8: line that way of having you know, Mike on when
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: you on at right guard, you know, but having these
- 1:06:30Speaker 8: athletic guys on the left side, so on the right side,
- 1:06:33Speaker 8: you know, you you you've got Morgan Moses in and
- 1:06:35Speaker 8: when you kind of big rogue grading guys. And then
- 1:06:37Speaker 8: on the other side you might have Cole Strange, who
- 1:06:40Speaker 8: might be the most athletic guy on the line. I mean,
- 1:06:42Speaker 8: that's what his thing was, was that athleticism. But again
- 1:06:45Speaker 8: it's how does the scheme fit into this? What are
- 1:06:47Speaker 8: they going to ask these guys to do? But it
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: certainly would be intriguing to me thinking about Will Campbell
- 1:06:52Speaker 8: with his movement skills and Cole Strange being able to pull.
- 1:06:55Speaker 7: Those guys, get those guys out in space.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:06:58Speaker 8: Meanwhile, while you're just you know, paving the rod on
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: the right side of the line.
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: It's an interesting balance.
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: They've done that in the past too. You know, I
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: always go back to Solder, Tuney, Andrews, Mason, Cannon right
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: like that, and they had on the right side you
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: had two bulldozers and Mason and Cannon, and then on
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: the other side you had two really good athletes and
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: Solder and Joe Toney. So that that's typically been how
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: McDaniels has balanced the line. You know, on the back side,
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: on the left side, you want to have athletes, past protectors,
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: you know, guys that can do that sort of thing.
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: And on the other side is what you run behind,
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: so that that's what they did for years.
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: Ben and Brooklyn says, if sanders fall is based on
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: lack of athleticism, does that make Travis Hunter's accomplishments all
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: the greater.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: I think that that might be part of it with
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: why people are having some skepticism around Sanders. He had
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: the best player in college football that was making plays
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: for him all over the place. You don't think that
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: that happens. Yeah, I think it's happened with LSU in
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: the past. You try to figure out, well, yeah, Zach
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: the good guy. Zach Mettenberger is the quarterback at LSU,
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: and you know he has Jeremy Hill in the back
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: in the backfield, and you know was justin Jefferson there?
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: What what? What? What iteration of stud wide receivers did
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: he did he play with at the time? You know,
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: like and then you start to say, like, well, is
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: the quarterback any good or is he just a product
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: of some great uh position positional play skill position guys
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: around him? Now it's one guy here for Colorado, not
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: a stacked offense like LSU has had in the past.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: So I'm not saying his apples to apples. But you
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: don't think that some people are looking at that and saying,
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: Travis Hunter make anybody complete seventy four percent of his
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: passes with those ball skills that Travis.
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: Huntra has saw that one catch you jumps back.
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: And hands store things annoying me.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: I think, well, and it's funny because I'm on Twitter
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: and I'm like just reading, and it's so funny how
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: different people are in such different camps. Adam Shine and
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: Jeff Donninson a going back and forth talking about how
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: the Dolphins might be a good landing spot for him
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: because they like to have guys with similarities to tours.
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: Burgh's picking right now. They might be a good lie.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: See if I were Pittsburgh, I would take him. But
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: they're talking about they want to have similarities with Tua
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: because Tua misses time obviously to his strength what accuracy,
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: So Sanders' strength accuracy, you know, good developmental guy. And
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: then like Joe Banner, who is obviously on the opposite
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: side and very bitter. I don't know if you follow
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Joe Banner at all, He's a bitter follow on Twitter.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: I enjoy it the amount of time on Sanders, who
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: the league thinks won't even be a quality backup is crazy.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: The media created this non story and they just can't
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: let it go.
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: Pittsburgh took Jack Sawyer. They got our guy, got our guy.
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: So yeah, the fact that Pittsburgh keeps passing on Shador
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: is kind of crazy. Like they their quarterback depth chart
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: is is nobody like they they literally Now I assume
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: they're playing as Aaron Rodgers and they know that and
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: they're just going to sign him after the draft. But
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: I would think that even with Aaron Rodgers, and maybe
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: it's Paul's thing that it's he's just too much of
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: a distraction as a backup. Like, but if you sign
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers to a one year deal and you're inviting distractions,
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: and then you say you draft Shador and then Chador
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: sits a year behind Aaron Rodgers and then it's Chadors
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: Show next year.
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: I would have taken him. I would if I were
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: Mike Tomlin, very secure, sure, you know, strong, strong willed
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: head coach with a good program, as Fred says, I
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: would have taken him right there.

- 1:15:09Speaker 19: And now great moments in.
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: History. I saw Eric before we went to the break.
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: You were shaking your head. What are you upset about
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: the Bengals?
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Yeah? I can't deal with him if he's going to
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: be like this all weekend. Fred I needed a buy
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: a weekend, Paul.
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: We know that the Bengals already gave Joe Burrow his jersey.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: Why hasn't the pickmen made we're five minutes in.
- 1:15:31Speaker 18: Let's go to make he's tired.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: He needs his rest.
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: It's getting close tired from we haven't done anything in
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: seven weeks.
- 1:15:38Speaker 7: I'm not Eric, who is.
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: Never suddenly bored waiting.
- 1:15:42Speaker 8: For yes, Yes, I am board, Megan O'Brien, you're right, Megan,
- 1:15:47Speaker 8: we finally found something that bores me.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: The friggin' Bengals.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: All right back here and Patriots sunfiltered eight five to
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: five past five hundred.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: Five minutes into the draft, he went on.
- 1:16:01Speaker 7: Will this thing just be over?
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: God? Could two people be more alike and more dissimilar
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: than me and Eric? Like, well, we are kind of
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: alike in some ways.
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: But you love the subject matter, right, He hated the subject.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: That's they're in lies the problem. You know there in
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: lies the problem.
- 1:16:19Speaker 7: You need to be a character.
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: You know you didn't like football, so what are you
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: doing working for the team?
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:16:25Speaker 7: Literally?
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: Not even he.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: Thought Fred and I and especially Andy were so beneath him.
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh you were.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: Un beneath everybody. That's why everybody's passed me by. We
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: had another visit from a former Patriots employee this week.
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: If we'll a member of the media relations department, Casey
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: O'Connell hasn't been with the organization since like two thousand
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: and eight. It's like a partner in a law firm now,
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: just like you had another one just past, a much
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: better living, a much better like well put well put well.
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: Everyone's been waiting to hear his opinion of Kyle Williams.
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: Eldred from North Carolina is on the line. What's up?
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: Eldred have been either, oh, you're driving on Saturday?
- 1:17:09Speaker 7: Huh, Yeah, Yes, I worked.
- 1:17:11Speaker 11: I worked two through stairs.
- 1:17:12Speaker 20: I'm up on Sundays and moneys, I can watch the
- 1:17:14Speaker 20: football game, okay, and and love Henderson Pet because I
- 1:17:20Speaker 20: like I said, I like Ohio State. I like them
- 1:17:22Speaker 20: running back to new receivers Kyle Williams, Well, I would
- 1:17:26Speaker 20: you would have got Trey Harris or maybe purpose even
- 1:17:29Speaker 20: though ANTHONYE was talking about him, you know, doing the
- 1:17:33Speaker 20: thing out sort of looked at them a little bit more.
- 1:17:35Speaker 12: Yeah, Kyle Williams. They said, it's stilling.
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: The number three receiver. Don't we have enough number three
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: on the on the roster?
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. You know what Warehome stacked up.
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: You know, I couldn't tell you that today, but I
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: I what I like so much about him is is
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: that he brings a level of speed and separation that
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: U in a bigger frame than somebody like a Pop Douglas.
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: See the only guy on the roster they have that
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: separates like him as probably Pop. But Pop's five nine
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: and eighty pounds. You know, this guy's got some size
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: to him compared to that.
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: Got an inch over yea.
- 1:18:10Speaker 6: I love the draft so far, you know, but I
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: wish insteadn't getting it at thinner. I wish he got
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: an edge rusher or maybe another wire is either. I
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: hope they get throwing in the poor for the field.
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: Everyone's gone, yeah, he got Draftedting's gone, Yeah, your boy
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: got got drafted by the Raiders.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: Very cliche and one of the more predictable things.
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: Well I'm gone, Thanks, thanks, dipping in his voice.
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: All right, let's go to Tim and Phoenix. What's up Tim?
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: I was hoping he'd be more excited about Kyle Williams.
- 1:18:42Speaker 11: Good morning, Philips?
- 1:18:43Speaker 7: Are you good morning?
- 1:18:46Speaker 11: I gotta say I like the fact that we're trading
- 1:18:48Speaker 11: our checker pieces for some chest pieces.
- 1:18:51Speaker 12: Oh.
- 1:18:52Speaker 11: Very happy with the draft. I got two things. One
- 1:18:54Speaker 11: from Deuce. Have you heard anything about this rivalry gear
- 1:18:58Speaker 11: and these uniforms and fan gear?
- 1:19:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I have, what's going on with that? Yeah, so
- 1:19:04Speaker 7: new uniforms this year.
- 1:19:06Speaker 8: Yeah, the AFC East, so all four teams will have
- 1:19:08Speaker 8: a uniform that they'll wear I believe once, just once,
- 1:19:10Speaker 8: I think, but against each other within the division. So yeah,
- 1:19:13Speaker 8: it'll be a new uniform. I think it's out this
- 1:19:16Speaker 8: summer sometime is when they'll reveal it. But yeah, they
- 1:19:18Speaker 8: got all kinds of swag and everything. It's a it's
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: a whole new deal.
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a whole program that the league is doing,
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: uh to create these rivalries and AFC East and what
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: was the other conference the division that Yeah, so they're
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: the only two divisions that are going to be wearing
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: them this year, but they'll bring in the rest of
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: the league over time. So I don't know, it's like
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: it's one game, but there is like merchandise tied to
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: it that you'll be able to buy starting this summer,
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: so we'll see what it looks like. Hopefully it's pretty cool.
- 1:19:49Speaker 11: You guys, did you guys hear the report from Nesson
- 1:19:52Speaker 11: about the division over the second round pick and the
- 1:19:55Speaker 11: Patriots draft room.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: It wasn't a report. Elliott Will told everybody at the
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: press conference last night. Did that happened?
- 1:20:01Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:20:03Speaker 11: He didn't say who the the debate was about, just
- 1:20:06Speaker 11: that the pick was picked before. Yeah, and so we
- 1:20:11Speaker 11: don't know. But I'm curious, what do you guys think?
- 1:20:13Speaker 11: What were the the sides? I guess you could say
- 1:20:17Speaker 11: he was on what side? Where do you think the
- 1:20:18Speaker 11: division was in that room?
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: I have no idea.
- 1:20:23Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: I don't know, like in terms of like the wanting
- 1:20:26Speaker 8: to say if we were going to say it was
- 1:20:28Speaker 8: Jade Higgins, I think that was what we were kind
- 1:20:29Speaker 8: of speculating.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that would make sense just because they
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: took a receiver in the next round, so you would
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: think that, you know. I also thought Jonas Savania from
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: Arizona is another guy that that could have Patriot potential
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: written all over him, you know, tackle guard, flex, someone
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: like that. So maybe they wanted to were considering at
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: least you know, going trenches again and really beefing up
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: the offensive line. Then they ended up taking you know,
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: Wilson a couple of picks later, so they ended up
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: taking an interior offensive lineman as well. Interesting those two guys,
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: like Tim said, who wanted who?
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: Then who helped the tie? You know, like, was it
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: verbel in fact that said, Okay, this is what we're doing.
- 1:21:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:21:11Speaker 11: You know the report that the person that the debate
- 1:21:14Speaker 11: was was picked before the Patriots pick came up, so
- 1:21:17Speaker 11: the debate was kind of ended.
- 1:21:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's yeah, that's what yeah said. So yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: So Jonas Savina, the guard from Arizona, was picked thirty
- 1:21:27Speaker 5: seven by the Dolphins, and the Dolphins traded into that
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: pick to take him.
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: Oh that makes sense.
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: It stands to reason the Patriots were probably interested in him.
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, Tim, thanks for the call. Appreciate it.
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: Doug Marone wanted him?
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I'm not going to speculate who wanted who,
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: but if I had to guess, I would put my
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: money on one of those two guys, Higgins or Savana.
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: Martin writes in it's really nice to watch the draft
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: with all of you, especially for your live reaction. I
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: have two suggestions to make the listener experience even better.
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: For the people whining about being tipped before the main
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: TV show in the first round, you could only you
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: could tip the pick, but in a more theatrical way,
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: like by saying it the way they do on the stage,
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: maybe with the draft chime. Also more often than not,
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: I'm an act an archive listener, and it would be
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: nice if you could tell the pick position all the
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: time when you announce them. This way, it would be
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: easier to scroll through the show for certain parts of
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: the draft. Or you could make matt work more and
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: have them add the latest pick at the bottom of
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: the screen.
- 1:22:36Speaker 8: Okay, and I did do you think there'd be an
- 1:22:39Speaker 8: appetite at all for Hey, I like the sound an
- 1:22:42Speaker 8: appetite at all for a video just best moments from
- 1:22:46Speaker 8: the draft shows. Maybe go through and do like a
- 1:22:47Speaker 8: five minute little cut up of you know, funny laughs
- 1:22:50Speaker 8: and announcing the picks and.
- 1:22:51Speaker 7: You know, something like that. Maybe the fans, maybe you
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: like that, Guys, let us know.
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: Sure, let's see, Jason writes in Guys, Kyle Williams something.
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: He is not small. He hasn't quotes as he's about
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: six feet. Well, no, he's five to ten.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: Right almost, yeah, change, he's about my size.
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: He's almost almost five eleven.
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: So he's almost six feet If.
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: He's closer to five eleven, then he has six feet Yeah,
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: he's under five eleven, right, Yeah, And another point of
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: some comfort is he was widely viewed positively by the
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: media scouts like Daniel Jeremiah, Mike Renner. The pick was applauded,
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: whereas when Taekwon was picked, all of those raised eyebrows
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: and on Shador. Now you're talking about drafting a backup,
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: and would any team want their backup to bring that
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: kind of attention to the team, right, That's that's the problem.
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: Yeah, Jalen Travis interesting interesting pick. Developmental tackles are starting
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: to go now. But yeah, I mean we none of
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: us have to be sold on Kyle Williams. I think
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: we all are pretty excited about you.
- 1:23:58Speaker 7: We can spend like two hours talking about him. Yeah
- 1:24:00Speaker 7: before they picked him.
- 1:24:01Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm just laughing those like you know here and
- 1:24:04Speaker 8: Evan random names pop up.
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: Now I'm starting to be like, I don't know who
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: these guys are.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: You are at that points?
- 1:24:09Speaker 8: How doesn't like to believe wet I got there late
- 1:24:11Speaker 8: last night, But now I'm wondering a couple of guys
- 1:24:13Speaker 8: I did not, like.
- 1:24:14Speaker 7: What do we do? What do we do with Eric?
- 1:24:16Speaker 7: On day three? Like what what like he didn't even
- 1:24:19Speaker 7: have the day.
- 1:24:19Speaker 5: On Jalen Blane.
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: Eric came on dating.
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: I thought Jalen Travis would be an interesting pick for
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: them as like a flyer at tackle, developmental tackle, A
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: huge dude, like six six three forty three fifty good athlete.
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: I was interested in him at this point of the draft.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: Maybe a little bit later as if they wanted to
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: double dip and get you know, the shirt thing with Campbell,
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: but maybe get like a developmental tackle on day three
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: with some tools, some upside.
- 1:24:49Speaker 7: I like this kid, Jalen Lane too.
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: He's fast.
- 1:24:51Speaker 8: It was one of my want fast guys. I know
- 1:24:53Speaker 8: that's and that's he was. He was on my BB
- 1:24:56Speaker 8: same thing though, the same thing.
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: We've been talking even in fourth round. They get up
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: in Yeah a fast.
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: Guy like kind of a gadget player is a little
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: little Mikole hardenan to.
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: On the front.
- 1:25:07Speaker 7: H Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: Remember we used to do the movie review with Larry Yeah,
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: random moments with Yeah.
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: He was a big, big movie guy. Kirk writes in
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: Happy Saturday. He's from Burlington, Ontario. Thought we could have
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: picked better than cals uh Woodson. I thought Ransom is better.
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: He got Yeah, he got taken within ten picks. Also
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: fire of State safety, right Ransom.
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I also thought David Walker was the best defensive player.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: He reminds me of Elvis Dumerville.
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: Yeah, David Walker is a free really small school prospect
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: from Central Arkansas. But when you watch those guys, you
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: want them to dominate, and especially with power. He dominated.
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: I mean, he would just ragged all dudes at that level.
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: I Ransom was was Luke worm on him. He He's
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: not a great athlete, you know. I think he's more
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: of a box safety, you know, close to the line
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: of scrimmage. I think Woodson is more of a guy
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: that can play from depth and play deeper down the
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: field and maybe even playing center field.
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: He went about six fifteen, sixteen picks after.
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: Yeah, no, that it's a fair point about the safeties,
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: you know, I keep saying, Billy Bowman went Lantham Race
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: and went Patriots took Woodson at the top of the round.
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: And it will be interesting to see, you know, in
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: two years, which which ones end up being better. You know.
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: It's funny though, is something tells me that won't generate
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: the amount of attention of like the wide receivers you
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: know everybody can rattle off the wives. Well, I mean
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: we all remember that, you know that treat that trio
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: was Safeties that went in the fourth round, you know,
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: back in twenty five.
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: Well, because we're absolutely absolute sickos, Catch twenty two, h
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: Well we'll we'll talk twenty minutes about them taking Billy Bowman.
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: Yeah, like the mid eight that your tagline Catch twenty too,
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: will remember.
- 1:27:01Speaker 7: Yeah, did you did you check in with Barky on
- 1:27:04Speaker 7: your ride home last night?
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: It was no, We know he.
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: Was still working, so I tried calling him, but he
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: wasn't ready to talk yet, so probably talk.
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: To ready to No, No, I'm not there yet.
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: So I know nothing will be you're ready for your
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: close up after you phase after nothing will.
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: Be the cold, strange draft. And him and I spent
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: about an hour and a half on the phone trying
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: to top each other off the ledge and uh and
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: the two of us and and Jesson is sleeping in
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: the other room and she comes in and she's like,
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: you're screaming, it's two o'clock in the morning.
- 1:27:37Speaker 7: Like can we go to bed?
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: And I was like, they drafted the card.
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: She still gonna be made.
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: This is ridiculous. I remember I remember her looking uh
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: into I think we were on FaceTime or something. I
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: remember her looking at Alex and being like, he's going
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: to bed now, all right.
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: And they're doing enough FaceTime so they can see each
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: other married.
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: Or of facial expressions are important.
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: We were we were.
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: You just saying you like the pick or do you
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: mean it? I need to see your face.
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: We were in a tough spot that night. We were
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: we were in a down boy, don't.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: Do what to say.
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: Oh no, the Patriots have drafted offensive lineman Cole Strange
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: from Chattanooga. Okay, we don't need to get it gets
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: worse from your.
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: That is that his ransom?
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: Yeah, black little blackmailed compromise. Kirk also says, I hope
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: they consider Tory Horton. His cop is DeVante Smith, and
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: if he didn't get injured, he would be a top
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: wide receiver in this draft. Do we agree with that? Assessments?
- 1:28:47Speaker 8: Do you think you ever gets to the point where
- 1:28:49Speaker 8: the general sentiment be like they drafted too many wide receivers, like.
- 1:28:52Speaker 7: They just people will never ever ever have enough.
- 1:28:55Speaker 8: Wide receivers, like could just always give them.
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: Concerning Sanders, I don't think any coaches signing off on
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: this legendary player because if they pick him, then in
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: one year Dion may be lurking around the corner for
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: their jobs. Of course, I.
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: Do think that that's an element of this.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: Yeah, of course, that's just part of it. The entitled
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: attitude is the main issue. I thought he was accurate
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: as I watched quite a few of his games. He
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: holds onto the ball because he thinks he can be
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: the hero and make every play.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: Did he say he thought he was inaccurate?
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: No, he thought he was accurate.
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: That's the one thing that most scouts are one hundred
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: percent agreement.
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: He thought he was accurate. Do you think Dion has
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: the capacity to, on reflection say, you know what, I
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: might have really hurt my son.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: No?
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: No, yeah, yeah, I just wonder.
- 1:29:44Speaker 7: I think the trains left the station on that.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: Maybe in my enthusiasm because I think I actually hurt him.
- 1:29:52Speaker 8: I mean that's I mean, as a dad, that's a
- 1:29:55Speaker 8: hard place to be, feeling like you screwed up your
- 1:29:58Speaker 8: son's chance at his tree.
- 1:29:59Speaker 7: Like that's a really really hard place to be.
- 1:30:02Speaker 8: I don't know, but it's hard to see him having
- 1:30:04Speaker 8: that kind of reflective attitude, and.
- 1:30:07Speaker 7: Ultimately I think they're just going to blame the media.
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: You know, and say it'll be it'll be someone else's fall.
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: So the Jets are taking Malachai more the safety from Alabama,
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: so we'll remember Billy Bowman Malachai Moore. Yeah, go later
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: in the fourth round. So a little run on safeties
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: here in the fourth round.
- 1:30:28Speaker 8: And what do I see on the track the ticker
- 1:30:30Speaker 8: there It is n E coming down the.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: Bend Teddy Buchanan.
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: Yeah, ted Y. So you saw some reports periodically over
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: the course of said like the last six months where
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: what would make sense is, you know, hiring Dion and
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: then letting him be you know, like make it, make
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: it a package, you know, the giant, you know, get
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: rid of the table and let him. I don't think
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: that that's not part of this now. So I'm going
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: to have him as my backup quarterback and then head
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: coach and winning. Now, all of a sudden it doesn't
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: go well and I'm out, you know, and he's waiting
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: in the wings.
- 1:31:15Speaker 7: And then the ownership's got to interview head coach candidates.
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: And I don't think that that's all that far fetched,
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: that that's I'm not telling you. That's the reason I'm
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: saying that some percentage.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: I heard somebody say, well, he's not going to do that.
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: He's got enough on his plate being the head coach
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: of Colorado. He'll find time. Oh yeah, he'll find time
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: to get involved.
- 1:31:35Speaker 8: I mean, the whole Belichick at Falcons thing, I think
- 1:31:37Speaker 8: is a little bit of an example of that of
- 1:31:39Speaker 8: where the front office revolts a little bit because they
- 1:31:42Speaker 8: see it as a power play and that they're going
- 1:31:44Speaker 8: to lose power.
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: They're going to lose my jobs.
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: Yeah, and believe me, these guys are worried about that.
- 1:31:49Speaker 7: Every day.
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: Every day is an opportunity or a reason to it's.
- 1:31:54Speaker 7: And it happens so fast.
- 1:31:55Speaker 8: I think, like I really noticed it going to the
- 1:31:57Speaker 8: combine for I guess for five years or whatever it's
- 1:32:00Speaker 8: been now that it's just all of a sudden, there's
- 1:32:02Speaker 8: a new guy. Oh now, and now this guy is
- 1:32:04Speaker 8: the new head coach, and it's all it just.
- 1:32:05Speaker 7: It changes so fast in this league.
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: It wouldn't be a show if we didn't have Christian
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: from LA and from LA to enrage everyone. What's up Christian?
- 1:32:15Speaker 21: Yeah, hey you guys, good morning or good afternoon. Out
- 1:32:18Speaker 21: there where you guys are. I am in of course,
- 1:32:21Speaker 21: La La Land, where it's raining today, just like me,
- 1:32:24Speaker 21: and I just want to.
- 1:32:24Speaker 15: Say this to the La and Christian La haters.
- 1:32:28Speaker 21: I am not an actor. In case you guys having
- 1:32:32Speaker 21: been listening out there in radio land, I am the
- 1:32:34Speaker 21: owner of a personal assistant app called Wait Number for Me.
- 1:32:38Speaker 21: I am not an actor.
- 1:32:39Speaker 15: I am in tech.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: I thought yesterday's performance was either alcohol infused. I thought
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: it was a little bit put on Christian.
- 1:32:48Speaker 21: Whether you thought or not, I was angry because I
- 1:32:51Speaker 21: saw this team going in the wrong direction. I've been
- 1:32:55Speaker 21: a fan of team since nineteen seventy nine. I've met
- 1:32:58Speaker 21: Mit the Craft person, had a conversation with him. I've
- 1:33:01Speaker 21: been listening to this show for ten years. I've been
- 1:33:03Speaker 21: calling into this show for five years. And if I
- 1:33:05Speaker 21: was angry, it was because I thought Bravel doing what
- 1:33:08Speaker 21: I thought was going to make Tennessee Titans two point zero,
- 1:33:12Speaker 21: and it em raised me. Because I love this team.
- 1:33:14Speaker 21: I am in for this team and I will die
- 1:33:17Speaker 21: for this team on the football if I could, but
- 1:33:19Speaker 21: I can't. So the most the most I can do
- 1:33:22Speaker 21: is call and express myself, reprect my opinions. Now with that, says,
- 1:33:25Speaker 21: and I'm going to load my blood pressure. I do
- 1:33:28Speaker 21: like what we're doing. On the back end of the
- 1:33:30Speaker 21: of the draft. I'm turned around completely, Brabel, You're back
- 1:33:33Speaker 21: in life, good grace.
- 1:33:35Speaker 15: I will say this, Williams meakingly. Yeah.
- 1:33:39Speaker 21: Tom Brady has secretly those two of my picks. I
- 1:33:41Speaker 21: do love wims that he's going to be a big
- 1:33:43Speaker 21: star for us. But I do wonder do we have
- 1:33:47Speaker 21: an aversion to guys that are six foot and above?
- 1:33:50Speaker 21: Why can't we ever draft a receiver of who's above
- 1:33:52Speaker 21: six foot?
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: Would you rather above six foot receiver that can't get
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: open or a sub six foot receiver that does get open?
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: And I but he's not alone a lot of no,
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: I'm not saying. But the thing is the six foot
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: plus receivers that that.
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: Can't get over those are the first round picks.
- 1:34:10Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: Well, that's that's my point, right, you know, like you're
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: not going to in the third round, you weren't going
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: to get Hey, you're not getting you know, Dk Metcalf
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: in the third round. That's the reason.
- 1:34:20Speaker 15: Just for DK Metcalf Part two.
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: Who you're talking about, Dante Thornton.
- 1:34:27Speaker 15: This guy's DK Metcalf. Part two.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Okay, based off what we'll see, maybe maybe there's another
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: guy like that that ends up happening. I think that
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: DK Metcalf is a little bit of an outliar, but
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: we'll see. Maybe this guy will be the DK Metcalf
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: Part two.
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: You might be right, d DK Metcalf had much better
- 1:34:42Speaker 5: college production than done. Here's a much.
- 1:34:45Speaker 21: Better college k Metcalf did not run three for either.
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: Yeah he did, Yeah he did.
- 1:34:51Speaker 21: But so on Kyle Williams, before I go, do we
- 1:34:54Speaker 21: have that can keep hand fighting? Because that seems to
- 1:34:58Speaker 21: be the thing on kylein Williams that he good is
- 1:35:00Speaker 21: a great separated but he separates with his feet instead
- 1:35:03Speaker 21: of his hands at the line. You are why receiver
- 1:35:05Speaker 21: coaches have they had the sort of like it's part
- 1:35:08Speaker 21: of their background that they were good hand fighters at
- 1:35:10Speaker 21: the line.
- 1:35:11Speaker 7: I don't know, I don't know.
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: I'm well, he's got a nice release package to his game.
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: But I would say to him, Christians is right that
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: I wouldn't call him a physical player. I think he's
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: he does. He wins with his feet, he wins with
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: speed and separation.
- 1:35:27Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm like, I've been dying for this for years.
- 1:35:30Speaker 8: I have a guy who can win with his feet,
- 1:35:32Speaker 8: like you know.
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: No DeVante Parker, like just throwing balls up to him
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: and hope that he can out jump a guy or
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: you know, win a battle.
- 1:35:40Speaker 7: Out physical people.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not going to get bogged down. And you know,
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: well he needs to have better hand fighting at the
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: line to get off press. Man. If I watch him
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: at training camp and he doesn't look like he's one
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: of those guys that gets open. Aaron Dobson was a
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: guy that I watched in college. I didn't like him
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: because he didn't ever seem like he was open, whether
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: he used his hands or try to get open with
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: his feet, however you tried to do it, he didn't
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: get open. This guy when I watch him on highlights,
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: admittedly highlights which you're seeing a lot of good stuff,
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: he gets open.
- 1:36:09Speaker 8: I mean, it's it's so simplified, but it's so true.
- 1:36:12Speaker 8: And I can't tell you how many training camps have
- 1:36:14Speaker 8: sat through where it's just you know, we watched the
- 1:36:17Speaker 8: practice and then we all meander down as we're waiting
- 1:36:19Speaker 8: for the interviews to begin, and you just hear that's
- 1:36:22Speaker 8: nobody open. Nobody can get open, like you just hear
- 1:36:24Speaker 8: people always saying that, and that's going to be the
- 1:36:27Speaker 8: number one thing.
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: That's there, goes Paul again, making fun of.
- 1:36:31Speaker 7: I was thinking, to g gard is a big no
- 1:36:34Speaker 7: one's open guy. Yeah, I mean, he's all no One's open.
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: I would just to you know, be tell the complete
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: story here about like that. That is the one concern
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: that you have is like playing through contact and play
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: strength and you know, dealing with physical coverage at this
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: level and all that kind of stuff. If he doesn't
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: work out, that's probably going to be why. It's probably
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: going to be because he can't get off press and
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: he can't get off physical coverage. So once we get
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: out the training camp, in real training camp with the
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: pads on and all that kind of stuff, let's see
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: what he looks like against Carlton Davis. Let's see, you know,
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: what he looks like against a physical corner that has
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: that kind of skill set, and we'll see if he
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: can get open against him. But that if that's what,
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: you know, that's the smallest he concern right now with
- 1:37:17Speaker 5: Kyle Williams in terms of you know, you look at
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: every prospect like if this guy fails, what will the
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: reason be If he fails, it's going to be you know, playstrained,
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: finishing through contact, that kind of stuff.
- 1:37:27Speaker 8: Well, I mean put it in context too. You you
- 1:37:28Speaker 8: spoke yesterday about what they might need to do to
- 1:37:31Speaker 8: help Will Campbell out a little bit. And that's what
- 1:37:33Speaker 8: I think I'm hopeful with Josh McDaniels is that he's creative.
- 1:37:37Speaker 8: If Kyle WiM's having trouble getting off press or getting
- 1:37:40Speaker 8: and he's gonna get him away, he's gonna motion him,
- 1:37:42Speaker 8: he's gonna buy him some space so that he can
- 1:37:45Speaker 8: maybe build up some speed. So I have confidence that,
- 1:37:48Speaker 8: you know, Josh McDaniel's gonna be able to put these
- 1:37:49Speaker 8: pieces together.
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: But man, he must be in the lab right now
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: just looking at Henderson. Oh yeah, we go this guy here,
- 1:37:55Speaker 7: you know what I mean.
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: What it's a great point about, you know, moving him
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: around the formation, and that's probably where his best long
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: term role is is playing off the line and letting
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: him you know, release off of stacks and bunch of
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: alignments and out of the slot and things like that
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: where he's going to get away from the physical coverage
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: a little bit and allow him to just get off
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: the line quickly. But you hope that he's able to
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: be pressed on the outside like he did a little
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: bit in college, and then that now that's a complete receiver.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: Like now we're talking about a guy that can do
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: a little bit of everything that elevates his ceiling even more.
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: He showed flashes of it certainly at Washington, Sam he
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: ran right by Travis Hunter. Like I know we keep
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: bringing it up, but like that's those are the reps
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: when you watch him on the outside, when he beats
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: Travis Hunter and press and runs right by him, that
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: you say, well, if he can do that at the
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: next level, then this guy's going to be a real player.
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: Scott and san Diego writes, And here's the transcript from
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: Christian from LA's conversation with mister Kraft. Christian, I own
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: six homes, including a villa and burritz in a mountain
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: estate and Aspen. Mister Craft, I don't care, pack up
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: your pup tent and get off my lawn. I think
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: something like that.
- 1:39:00Speaker 7: I think Christians really leaned into into his.
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: Well, that's okay.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: I told you he's taking a heel turn.
- 1:39:05Speaker 7: It's good.
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: He's become a carriage.
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: John Cena is like he's going hell all this.
- 1:39:10Speaker 7: Time that I haven't heard before that.
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: It's just we've had a couple of those over the
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: you know, Mark in the Bay was one embracing the embrace.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: He didn't take a heel turn though, he was just
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: always a heel.
- 1:39:20Speaker 8: Yeah, he was harassedteric right, Mark with rank Ye, it's
- 1:39:26Speaker 8: like blood in the water.
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: But these guys that are getting taken right you know,
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: late day two, day three wide receivers, they're they're they're
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: going to have like in the negative call, you know,
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: the strengths and weaknesses. The weaknesses are going to be visible.
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: That's why they're there. You know, the guy that everybody
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: wants this, you know, perfect prospect in Dante Thorton. What's
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: his negative I don't know. He caught like twenty passes
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: last year, but twenty five. Like, if I'm going to
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: have a guy that has some weaknesses, at least give
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: me some production and and Kyle Williams had that. I
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: would much rather have Kyle Williams than Thornton one hundred percent.
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: I mean, I was totally on board with taking a
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: flyer on Thornton today, Like if they hadn't taken a
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: receiver yet and they just wanted to throw a fifth
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: round pick.
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: On Dante's story, I'm enamored with that skill set, like
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: I like. I like the big as much as you
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: mock me, Mike. I like the big X. I like
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: the big outside guys that would get down the field
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: and the top off the defense and all that stuff.
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: But Calvin Johnson's is are hard to find.
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: But you need to have some production to go with it.
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I understand, you know, if you look at just
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: the raw measurables of him, you know, being similar to
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: the DK Metcalf strictly from a size speed ratio. But
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: DK Metcalf was the only reason why DK Metcalf fell
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: to the second round was because of injury. He had
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: an injury in college his last year, and so he
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: fell to the second round. He was a much better
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: prospect than Dante.
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: Thorton, Brian says, whose attitude is were Shador Sanders or
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: Christian in La.
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: I was gonna save me for a second.
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: I thought I was gonna say me, all right, that's good.
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: See we laugh. But all these emails are coming in
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: about Christian from La.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: No. I know, you know, that's why I think he's
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: taking a heel turn.
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: Good for him, engaged engagement.
- 1:41:13Speaker 7: I like it.
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: Henry writes in from Montana to the last callers point
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: that we can't draft a receiver over six feet the
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: kil Harry is six to Taekwon Thornton was six two.
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: How those picks go?
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, ye, though I've always just been I always,
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: I'm always just a sucker for the guys like Kyle
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: Williams like this, this the separators, the speed, good with
- 1:41:39Speaker 5: the ball in your hands like that. I would much
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: rather build around that kind of guy.
- 1:41:42Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:41:42Speaker 8: I don't know if it's I've been scarred by some
- 1:41:44Speaker 8: of the Patriots picks, but for me, like the contested
- 1:41:47Speaker 8: catch guys, when that's their big trade, I just I
- 1:41:50Speaker 8: shy away from it. I feel like that's very specific
- 1:41:54Speaker 8: skill set that's hard to.
- 1:41:56Speaker 7: Be consistent and sustain.
- 1:41:58Speaker 8: And people talk about it like we absolute, well, you
- 1:42:02Speaker 8: need a jump ball guy, right, Like why why not
- 1:42:04Speaker 8: just have.
- 1:42:05Speaker 7: Guys that can catch the ball and run with it?
- 1:42:06Speaker 7: That That to me is yeah.
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not saying that if you want to
- 1:42:10Speaker 5: round out the room so you have one of those
- 1:42:12Speaker 5: guys in the room.
- 1:42:14Speaker 8: Sides, But I'm find with Mac Collins, like, great, we
- 1:42:16Speaker 8: got a tall receiver who's playing special. Teams will throw
- 1:42:19Speaker 8: them on the outside for a couple of snaps the game,
- 1:42:20Speaker 8: but you know, for the most part, you want to
- 1:42:22Speaker 8: be doing it with your volume guys, and especially after
- 1:42:25Speaker 8: the catch. That's just where I think they've really struggled
- 1:42:29Speaker 8: to produce. I mean, I you talk about catch the
- 1:42:31Speaker 8: ball fall down with you know, back in the day,
- 1:42:33Speaker 8: with what was my old guys, Philip Dorsett.
- 1:42:37Speaker 7: He was.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: Used to I like, I like how Dion did catch
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: the ball, get down, stayed he stayed healthy at least.
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: Eddie and La. To the people upset about Kyle Williams size,
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: did they forget about Max Hollins. I know he's probably
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: reached his ceiling as a player, but he's still a
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: guy who proved himself for the league. And I'd rather
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: have Hollands than take a flare flyer, a big wide
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: receiver in the third round or after.
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I just there weren't any receivers. And I said
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: this before the draft like numerous times, like the big
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: outside X receiver did not really exist in this draft
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: past Ted McMillan and Jaden Higgins, like those were the
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: two guys. I guess if you like Trey Harris from
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: Ole Miss, you could throw him in there too, But
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: he went fifty fit to the Chargers. You know, he
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: went early, so like there weren't a ton of that
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: in this draft. There was a lot more, you know,
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: Jalen Royals just went you know, obviously the Patriots drafted
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: Kyle Williams. Like there was a lot more of that
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: kind of receiver in this group, and there was like
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: the big outside guys. That's why Thornton went early. Like
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: Thornton went probably around earlier than I think he probably
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: should have, because they wanted that type of receiver and
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: they're just asn't any of them available, so they ended
- 1:43:46Speaker 5: up taking him a little bit earlier.
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: Royals to the Chiefs too, so.
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: That's a good pick by them.
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: Yeah, Jared Wright said, I checked out of the podcast
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: and following the team after the end of the season,
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: but I'm back now.
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: Oh nice, right.
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: Bottom line for me, we were the worst in our
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: division last year. Where do you think we are now?
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: I think we're a number two with a sniff.
- 1:44:09Speaker 8: With a sniff, I mean, I would hope that they
- 1:44:13Speaker 8: can get ahead of the Jets with Justin Fields. I
- 1:44:17Speaker 8: just Miami to me is the interesting one because I
- 1:44:19Speaker 8: find Miami so frustrating because.
- 1:44:22Speaker 7: I can't beat Tua.
- 1:44:24Speaker 8: And but for some reason, Miami can never beat good teams,
- 1:44:27Speaker 8: you know, so the Patriots have never really been.
- 1:44:29Speaker 7: A good team against Tua overall.
- 1:44:32Speaker 8: But if there's something that Mike Vrabel wants to hang
- 1:44:34Speaker 8: his hat on with this team, I would hope it's.
- 1:44:36Speaker 7: Beating a team like Miami at least here, especially if
- 1:44:39Speaker 7: it gets cold out.
- 1:44:40Speaker 8: But you know, that's the toughness and you know, trying
- 1:44:42Speaker 8: to slow them down.
- 1:44:44Speaker 7: They've just been powerless against you.
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: I think Miami's predict because you just don't. I think
- 1:44:48Speaker 3: there's so much uncertain Tyreek Hill.
- 1:44:50Speaker 7: Back, Is he not back?
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: Yeah? If Tua, if you're gonna tell me Tua is
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: gonna like be there, be dependable and be reliable and
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: they know it and everything falls accordingly, then I think
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: there'll be a tough out.
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: But like, here's what you can't do that. Here's a prediction.
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: In April prediction for the twenty twenty five season. By November,
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: no later than Thanksgiving, we're gonna be talking about Mike
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: McDaniel being on the hot seat.
- 1:45:17Speaker 5: Clay Robinson to the Broncos those edges.
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: I'm not throwing my eyes. I think he was on
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: the hot seat last year. I just don't think it's
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: all that, you know, bold of a pit. I mean,
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: I gets hurt again he's going to be on the
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: hot seat. I mean he just signed an extension last
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: year and he was on the hot seat. Daniel.
- 1:45:36Speaker 8: We get so many calls like acting to predict, like
- 1:45:39Speaker 8: what the record's going to be, what's the floor, what's
- 1:45:41Speaker 8: the ceiling?
- 1:45:42Speaker 7: All that, like maybe to oversimplify it.
- 1:45:44Speaker 8: And I'm a big look at the division guy to
- 1:45:46Speaker 8: the playoffs, goes through the division, you win your division,
- 1:45:48Speaker 8: you get in. But I look at Miami as maybe
- 1:45:51Speaker 8: like a good barometer this year, like can you can
- 1:45:53Speaker 8: you get over that.
- 1:45:54Speaker 7: Hump a little bit? Can you figure out to can
- 1:45:56Speaker 7: you solve that?
- 1:45:57Speaker 8: Because they just whenever that offenses humming with Tua, the
- 1:46:01Speaker 8: Patriots have just seemed like, man, we can't like he's
- 1:46:03Speaker 8: completely like ninety percent of his passes, like it's just drop.
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: The game down to Miami. Last year was brutal.
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: I mean I was fairly competitive, and I don't.
- 1:46:11Speaker 8: Get it because then you watch another team that's good
- 1:46:13Speaker 8: and they go up against them, and you're like, where
- 1:46:15Speaker 8: is this Miami team when the Patriots play them? Somehow
- 1:46:17Speaker 8: the Patriots could never force them to be that team.
- 1:46:20Speaker 8: And you know, with very able the toughness, the speed
- 1:46:23Speaker 8: that they're adding the aggressiveness on defense. I also wonder
- 1:46:26Speaker 8: we talk about this a lot with the Patriots defense
- 1:46:29Speaker 8: in the past, relying more on two gapping when you
- 1:46:31Speaker 8: have Tua who gets the ball out quick and you're
- 1:46:34Speaker 8: not even in the zip code of disrupting him when
- 1:46:36Speaker 8: he's getting that ball out under two seconds. Maybe now
- 1:46:39Speaker 8: with this defensive shift, they're going to be more aggressive
- 1:46:41Speaker 8: getting after him. You're gonna have Milton Williams, Christian Barmore
- 1:46:44Speaker 8: getting up field and causing that kind of quick hesitation
- 1:46:48Speaker 8: where you see then it unravels for Tua in some
- 1:46:50Speaker 8: games that the Patriots frankly, just haven't been able to
- 1:46:52Speaker 8: get them to.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: I think the Patriots will have every opportunity to move
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: ahead of the Jets and the Dolphins, but I'm not
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: telling you that they will. I mean there's a lot
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: of uncertainty, and we're talking about Toola being hurt.
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: Well, I'm what.
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: If these other guys for the Patriots that were relying
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: on get hurt, Like last year the Patriots had some.
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: Injuries, then I'll have an excuse they would have no.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: No, no, I know that I'm this is like, this
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: is sort of answering the email. Not you know, you're
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: like unabashed if you can't do that on draft weekend.
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: I mean, really, there's no call for that. If you
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: can't do it.
- 1:47:27Speaker 8: Now, there's been some pretty bad dress I wasn't wooing
- 1:47:31Speaker 8: that much, but.
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: I don't know. It does make me feel optimistic, though,
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: because we're so close to the Patriots and so close
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: to the team that sometimes it's it's good to listen
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: to what some of the national guys feel about what
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: they've done and they're especially at the end of last night,
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: there were a lot of people that I saw Brett
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: Coleman he posted the Patriots offensive depth chart, and we're like, okay,
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: like they I can see, you know, where they're kind
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: of going with this, Like there's some pieces here now
- 1:47:59Speaker 5: that I like, and and so that's always good to
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: see people on the national stage that have no allegiances
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: whatsoever to the Patriots and have no you know, fan
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: in there. I just feel like there's a.
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: Lot of that, and I see, I feel we talked
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: about this before the show. I feel there's way more
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: excitement around the Patriots right now in this you know,
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: in the Vrabel sort of clarival than there has been
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: in recent years. But like, I can go back last
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: year and find the Sports Illustrated guy Connor or who
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: picked the Patriots to win the division, you know, And
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: I'm just like I could do that too. I work here,
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: and I can get on board and I can be all,
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: you know, over the top enthusiastic and you know, embrace
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: mysunshine dot com persona. But I just don't believe that.
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: I never believed that the Patriots were in the same
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: stratosphere as the Bills. So how am I gonna put
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: pick them to beat the Bills last year? I'm not
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: even talking about now, this was two years ago. Like
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: there's no way.
- 1:48:59Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: So, I I don't really like the fact that that
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: national guys are embracing what they're doing. I don't really care.
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: But around here I do care, yea. And the groundswell
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: of sort of enthusiasm and excitement with the people that
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: the same people that have been really down the last
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: two years, winning four games each of the last few years.
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: Those same people are now starting to say, hey, there's
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: a chance. There was an argument between Mark Bertrand and
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: Phil Perry the other day yesterday about where the Patriots
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: could potentially be picking. Beatle was saying that they should
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: have been interested in that kind of a trade that
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: the Browns and the Jags did, right, and his reasoning
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: was they shouldn't be expecting to have a high pick
- 1:49:40Speaker 3: in next year's draft. They should be expecting to win eight,
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: nine ten games and be in the playoffs. And Phil
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: Perry said, wow, I mean, that's really optimistic that you're
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: potentially giving away another top ten pick, and that was
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: sort of the crux of their argument. No, it's not
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: going to be a top ten pick, and it was
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: a legitimate argument that Bertrand was saying, No, they're not
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: going to pick in the top ten next year. They've
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: done too much much. Not that I'm taking their word
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: as gospel, but I'm much more interested in those guys
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: because those are the guys that have been really down
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: about the state of the team and where it's been
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: in the lack of talent, because they see what they
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: did in free agency, and they're heading into a draft
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: where they get Will Campbell and now they pick up
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: a couple other pieces on Day two. I think there's
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: legit excitement and enthusiasm. Our numbers is showing it. Yeah,
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: especials that are listening and watching way higher than last year.
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: Especially the it's easy to forget about what they did
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: in free agency and the fact that they went out
- 1:50:37Speaker 5: and signed Milton Williams, who was probably the top free
- 1:50:40Speaker 5: agent in the entire class this year. And they added
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: Carlton Davis too, as a starting caliber corner on the outside. Like,
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: they added the pieces on defense that got the defense operational,
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: and now you hope that these picks work out and
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: they hit on a couple of these guys on offense,
- 1:50:55Speaker 5: and then the offense is suddenly operational as well. So
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: there's a lot of reason to be very like I
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: I kind of come down on it. You know, I
- 1:51:02Speaker 5: was talking to Barth about this yesterday. I kind of like,
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: we're almost afraid to be too excited about what they've
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: done because you don't want to get too worked up
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: about it and too you know, pom pom wavy. But
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: the point is, I like I've loved their drafts so far,
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: like I really have. I think they've done a really
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: nice job like that.
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: That's the whole thing. It's it's you see the vision,
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: you see the method, you know, whereas in the past
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: is like it was, okay, you know, we rightfully questioned
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: like what are we doing? Like where's the plan?
- 1:51:35Speaker 7: That's right, I mean, but you see.
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: Some logic to what's happening here.
- 1:51:39Speaker 8: I think there's just momentum building, and it's been building.
- 1:51:42Speaker 8: I mean really since the team hired Mike Frabel, who
- 1:51:45Speaker 8: is beloved around here, who I think is really seen
- 1:51:47Speaker 8: as one of the key pieces of the dynasty and
- 1:51:51Speaker 8: and really representing what people love most about that early
- 1:51:55Speaker 8: Patriots dynasty with the first three championships. But between bringing bringing,
- 1:51:59Speaker 8: in between the free agency period and now the draft,
- 1:52:03Speaker 8: they've really stacked some some strong moves that that I
- 1:52:07Speaker 8: think everybody.
- 1:52:07Speaker 7: Sees the method of the madness we traded.
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we we might have a little action.
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: We are on the board. We are on the board
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: right now.
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: Okay, we are.
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: Give me that edge. Give me that edge, Elliot.
- 1:52:22Speaker 4: We traded with Seattle to get to one thirty seven.
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: All right, give them to me.
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: Okay, and we hopped over the forty nine ers.
- 1:52:31Speaker 7: Yeah, it looks like they still have that eighth pick
- 1:52:33Speaker 7: in the fifth round.
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: So we got some action here, pick us in, pick
- 1:52:37Speaker 4: us in.
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: All right, the red light is on and okay tell
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: me now, you just tell me.
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: Who I'm told that. They're on the phone with the
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: player right now. So good stuff. Re action at the
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: end of the hour here.
- 1:52:52Speaker 7: See Mike.
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: Yeah, the action is the juice.
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: Action is the Jews wondering maybe they they maybe they
- 1:52:58Speaker 8: ditched that.
- 1:52:59Speaker 7: Uh that's third fifth pick that they had.
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: Pick is in.
- 1:53:03Speaker 7: Who's it going to be?
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: We don't know.
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: Okay, there's the room, we're still waiting.
- 1:53:11Speaker 7: Where's no socks? They got them out, they kicked them
- 1:53:14Speaker 7: out today.
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: Yeah. I think this is a I think this will
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: be a good harvest this pick. Oh, yes, you know,
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: you reap what you sew.
- 1:53:24Speaker 7: Then, like in Iowa.
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: Maybe oh the tight end from Iowa. Watchy ch wlackie.
- 1:53:31Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not saying.
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: They traded one for four and two thirty eight for
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: one thirty seven according to the Twitter machine.
- 1:53:43Speaker 8: Okay, thirty eight, that's that was their last pick of
- 1:53:48Speaker 8: the draft. Correct, So they ended a little earlier, preparently
- 1:53:55Speaker 8: Old McDonald, I'm gonna guess that I don't know with
- 1:54:01Speaker 8: the player.
- 1:54:02Speaker 7: I don't know the player the Freds.
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: With Fred's, we're definitely into the point. The only guys
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: I know now with skill, guys like the Stanford receiver
- 1:54:09Speaker 3: I knew, I O manner Yoh okay.
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: The phone call us concluded, well, I have the trade details,
- 1:54:20Speaker 5: but we do not have the player that they pay.
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: Well, okay, well, I could be getting wrong information, so
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: I don't want to throw it out.
- 1:54:30Speaker 7: I hope you're not Fred. That would be oh wow,
- 1:54:35Speaker 7: oh wow, oh yeah.
- 1:54:38Speaker 5: Oh have a draft. Let's go.
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: Heck yeah, okay.
- 1:54:45Speaker 7: Heck yeah.
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: The pick is in. Uh it's Joshua Farmer.
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: Joshua Farmer from Florida State. Elliott Wolf and Mike Rable
- 1:54:54Speaker 5: take a bow. You got Deuce his edge rusher. He's
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: happy over there. We're all happy about this one. A
- 1:55:01Speaker 5: couple of things that stand out to me about Joshua Farmer.
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: First of all, we talk a lot about arm length
- 1:55:07Speaker 5: in this draft class for a good reason. There at
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: the top, Joshua Farmer, I believe I'm pulling it up
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: right now, has thirty five inch arms, So this guy
- 1:55:18Speaker 5: has a ton of length. Is a developmental prospect, I
- 1:55:21Speaker 5: would say, with great raw measurables six foot three, three
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: hundred and five pounds, thirty five inch arms. I wrote
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: a plus play strength, snap quickness, good initial get off
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: and pop into engagements on the line of scrimmage. So
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: this is a guy that can really get up the field,
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: separate get off blocks and has a lot of developmental upside.
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: I think there's some technique things that he's going to
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: have to improve upon as we progress here. But all
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: Deuce and I wanted was somebody that Terrell Williams and
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: Mike Rabel could sink their teeth into and develop and
- 1:55:54Speaker 5: get the most out of potentially down the road. And
- 1:55:56Speaker 5: Joshua Farmer certainly checks all of those boxes. A guy
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: that's got some real upside to his so.
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: On on on the TV Leo ortiz Uh he plays
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: for Flamenco. I think is the one of the top
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: Brazilian soccer teams announced the pick from Brazil.
- 1:56:13Speaker 7: That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool. Yeah, yeah, I like it.
- 1:56:17Speaker 8: I mean it's looked still some uncertainty with Christian Barmore
- 1:56:20Speaker 8: as well, and you know, adding in another layer of this.
- 1:56:23Speaker 8: I don't know if he's necessarily you know, you're gonna
- 1:56:25Speaker 8: play pure edge. Seems to me a little bit more
- 1:56:28Speaker 8: like an interior.
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: Guy I listened as a defensive tackle.
- 1:56:31Speaker 8: Yeah so, but but even still, I think this is,
- 1:56:33Speaker 8: you know, just getting some youth, getting, as Evan said,
- 1:56:36Speaker 8: a piece of you know, raw guy that that they can.
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: I like our draft room, they're not all like, well
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: they already did it. Now there's first stop it.
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: On the first pick, they all got up because we
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: saw no socks. He was part of it. Yeah, they
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: all got up and they were all shaking hands and
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: hugging and stuff.
- 1:56:53Speaker 7: I was like, we've just produced daft up.
- 1:56:55Speaker 3: And no, no, no, no, he was there in the background.
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: So everybody is wearing these orange T shirts and all
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: the draft rooms it says your light lives on in
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: all of us. And then it's the initial CCT under it.
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: So but this is like league wide, like I see it.
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: It's in all the draft rooms. So I don't know
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: who or what CCT is. I don't know.
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: So just to let everybody know, the Patriots still have
- 1:57:21Speaker 3: the eighth pick and the fifth round. Yeah, they're coming up,
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: so we'll coming back up. Can we make an executive decision?
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: We'll hang on to this pick, Freddie. Yeah, I know
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: we said we would be done at too, but we
- 1:57:30Speaker 3: should probably stick around. We got one and then it's
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: to the top of the fifth round and then you
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: got the mic just so donut.
- 1:57:35Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I think they still have thirty five in
- 1:57:38Speaker 8: this round.
- 1:57:39Speaker 7: So it is I mean, it's a little bit of
- 1:57:42Speaker 7: it the whole sixth.
- 1:57:43Speaker 4: So in that case, let's take a break, Matt. We'll
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: come back. We will. It's one fifty seven, but we're
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: going to stick around until that that other pick in
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: the fifth round for the Patriots, but they've added Joshua Farmer.
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: Love it.
- 1:57:56Speaker 4: You got your defense a little bit.

- 2:02:45Speaker 7: Any breaks tough.
- 2:02:47Speaker 3: And the rest of the car.
- 2:02:48Speaker 7: Yeah, you're always gonna have to update the breaks in
- 2:02:51Speaker 7: the time.
- 2:02:51Speaker 3: Like one hundred grand, I was thinking that gets you
- 2:02:54Speaker 3: back to where you need to, you know, like people
- 2:02:55Speaker 3: say that if I just had like a million dollars,
- 2:02:58Speaker 3: just like one hundred grand before taxes or after taxes, after.
- 2:03:01Speaker 7: Taxes, I could get like one get some.
- 2:03:04Speaker 3: Of the bad debt out of the way, you know,
- 2:03:07Speaker 3: and I could probably just ride out the string to graduation,
- 2:03:10Speaker 3: to retirement.
- 2:03:11Speaker 7: When you're in Florida.
- 2:03:12Speaker 3: Soak it up in the hotel.
- 2:03:13Speaker 4: Absolutely, that's it. Okay, So Joshua the latest.
- 2:03:19Speaker 3: Mister Kraft.
- 2:03:20Speaker 4: The fourth round has ended. We're now in the fifth round.
- 2:03:23Speaker 4: The Patriots are at and now we're at pick.
- 2:03:32Speaker 3: If Fred. Here's your thing with the T shirts.
- 2:03:35Speaker 4: So what does it mean though, that's a that's a
- 2:03:37Speaker 4: person something from Nolins.
- 2:03:40Speaker 3: I think it's all over the league. Yeah, that's Indy.
- 2:03:44Speaker 7: It's out for Shudure.
- 2:03:46Speaker 4: So maybe somehow they stacked.
- 2:03:47Speaker 3: Their board vertically and horizontally.
- 2:03:49Speaker 4: There Pete Carroll in the shirt. So maybe somebody who
- 2:03:53Speaker 4: is listening to the broadcast can tell us what it means.
- 2:03:57Speaker 4: We have is CCT we would know.
- 2:04:02Speaker 8: Yeah, they had his name up briefly the picture of
- 2:04:04Speaker 8: Oh I per see that it was.
- 2:04:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm not sure who he was though.
- 2:04:07Speaker 4: Okay, it's very nice to day there in Green Bay. So,
- 2:04:13Speaker 4: as I said, the fourth round is over, we're into
- 2:04:16Speaker 4: the fifth round now. The pick is in for the
- 2:04:19Speaker 4: Panthers at one forty The Patriots are sitting at one
- 2:04:22Speaker 4: forty six. So it's just a matter of time now
- 2:04:26Speaker 4: before we have our our second, our third pick of the.
- 2:04:31Speaker 3: Two picks in the fifth second already, Yeah, third of
- 2:04:34Speaker 3: the third pick of this.
- 2:04:35Speaker 5: So they have one forty six in one seventy one
- 2:04:38Speaker 5: in the fifth round, and then two twenty round out
- 2:04:40Speaker 5: the draft.
- 2:04:41Speaker 4: So we've picked a safety, we've picked a defensive tackle
- 2:04:45Speaker 4: or defensive line.
- 2:04:47Speaker 7: I think he's I think he's just an interior.
- 2:04:49Speaker 4: So Elliott talked about going defense on Day three so far.
- 2:04:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, look, look, I will be consistent, like
- 2:04:57Speaker 8: I do, like that they draft the defense. But again,
- 2:05:00Speaker 8: like my concerns is pass rush and not that you're
- 2:05:02Speaker 8: going to have elite pass rushers here as we get
- 2:05:05Speaker 8: into the fifth round, it's not really it doesn't matter
- 2:05:08Speaker 8: now to it doesn't matter, probably probably missed your run though,
- 2:05:11Speaker 8: because you guys, you and haven't seen to be talking
- 2:05:13Speaker 8: about a different edge guy.
- 2:05:15Speaker 3: They're in the middle of that fourth round. Every pitch scene,
- 2:05:18Speaker 3: you know, look, but they trade it so.
- 2:05:20Speaker 7: Maybe you know, if they're gotten a little bit.
- 2:05:22Speaker 3: More aggressive, they're going to trade it up a little higher.
- 2:05:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 2:05:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I mean he's certainly not a pure edge
- 2:05:28Speaker 5: guy like this isn't a screamer off the edge, you know,
- 2:05:31Speaker 5: two point stance or anything like that kind of guy.
- 2:05:33Speaker 5: But I do think he's disruptive, and he uses his
- 2:05:36Speaker 5: length well to just separate from blocks and has good
- 2:05:39Speaker 5: upper body twitch and strength to be able to shed
- 2:05:42Speaker 5: and do those types of things on the interior. And
- 2:05:44Speaker 5: they they are going to be a four down defense.
- 2:05:46Speaker 5: They're going to play a lot of traditional four to
- 2:05:49Speaker 5: three if you want to call it that, and they're
- 2:05:51Speaker 5: gonna need lineman that can play with their hand in
- 2:05:53Speaker 5: the dirt, and that's certainly what Farmer is. I think
- 2:05:56Speaker 5: he can play some end as well as play some
- 2:05:58Speaker 5: defensive tackle. You'll play some three technique. But I like
- 2:06:02Speaker 5: his versatility up and down the line of scrimmage a lot,
- 2:06:05Speaker 5: just not He's not going to be all the way
- 2:06:07Speaker 5: outside the tackle, you know, rushing off the edge. That's
- 2:06:09Speaker 5: not going to be his game.
- 2:06:11Speaker 4: Let's go to the phones while we wait for the
- 2:06:13Speaker 4: Patriots pick. Here in the fifth round. Q is in Atlanta.
- 2:06:17Speaker 4: What's up? Q?
- 2:06:20Speaker 15: Hey, I got some caller and caller smoke.
- 2:06:22Speaker 22: Okay, nice Christian in LA. But this is this is
- 2:06:26Speaker 22: more for all the Twitter gms and everyone that, oh,
- 2:06:31Speaker 22: this player can't do this and this player can't do that.
- 2:06:33Speaker 15: Before they even hit the field, guys, just please stop it.
- 2:06:36Speaker 15: You guys are not gms, you're not coaches, you don't
- 2:06:38Speaker 15: talk to scouts. Those guys would stop it at least
- 2:06:42Speaker 15: like these guys get on the field seat, but they
- 2:06:43Speaker 15: can do first and then secondly, what do you think
- 2:06:48Speaker 15: that we should do at kicker? I don't know if
- 2:06:49Speaker 15: you guys remember with Mike Rabel kind of hinted that
- 2:06:52Speaker 15: he's had kind of bad LUCKI kickers.
- 2:06:54Speaker 23: Do you think they.
- 2:06:54Speaker 15: Go with a kicker today if one of them goes undrafted,
- 2:06:57Speaker 15: or do you think they go to night game?
- 2:06:59Speaker 12: Thank god?
- 2:06:59Speaker 4: Okay, kicker. It's definitely in need right.
- 2:07:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, they'll definitely add one to the roster. I
- 2:07:06Speaker 3: don't know if they'll draft one or if they just
- 2:07:08Speaker 3: signed one, but they're not gonna go with just the
- 2:07:11Speaker 3: kid that finished the season on the practice.
- 2:07:14Speaker 5: Yeah, there are some draftable kickers in this in this draft,
- 2:07:18Speaker 5: better called Miami, better call sauls is out there, Ben Saul's,
- 2:07:23Speaker 5: Andre Borgalis is from Miami, Ryan Fitzgerald from Florida State
- 2:07:27Speaker 5: or the three guys that I think most people believe
- 2:07:30Speaker 5: are draftable. And maybe with that seventh round pick, you know,
- 2:07:33Speaker 5: they they traded to thirty eight, their very last seventh
- 2:07:36Speaker 5: round pick, but they held on. They still currently have
- 2:07:39Speaker 5: two twenty, so you wonder if that pick might be
- 2:07:42Speaker 5: or marked for one of those kickers to take one
- 2:07:45Speaker 5: of those guys. But Borgalis is considered the best kicker
- 2:07:48Speaker 5: in the draft. He's the most consistent within fifty yards.
- 2:07:51Speaker 5: But he's he's might might go a little bit earlier
- 2:07:55Speaker 5: than that. Like the fifth round tends to be a
- 2:07:57Speaker 5: specialist round, and I could see him coming soon. But Fitzgerald,
- 2:08:02Speaker 5: all three of these guys, they worked out all three
- 2:08:04Speaker 5: of them, so they've showed some interest in all the kickers.
- 2:08:07Speaker 7: I believe they'll draft one.
- 2:08:09Speaker 8: Just listening to Jeremy Springer a couple of weeks ago,
- 2:08:12Speaker 8: it seems like they're taking this very seriously, trying to
- 2:08:14Speaker 8: find the next kicker, trying to find some stability long
- 2:08:17Speaker 8: termam at that position, which is something they haven't had.
- 2:08:19Speaker 8: I guess, I mean, I guess Nick Folk was here
- 2:08:21Speaker 8: and that was fairly consistent. Not here that long, but
- 2:08:24Speaker 8: he was a consistent kicker for him. But I think
- 2:08:26Speaker 8: it's a goal of this organization to get some stability
- 2:08:30Speaker 8: back in that position. They could wait till undrafted and
- 2:08:33Speaker 8: sign one of these guys, but I think how they've
- 2:08:35Speaker 8: talked about it.
- 2:08:36Speaker 7: It seems like they might see a guy want him and.
- 2:08:39Speaker 4: Just tim and California fills us in on the shirts.
- 2:08:43Speaker 4: The Colts on Saturday honored CHORL. Turpining, the late wife
- 2:08:46Speaker 4: of Colts director of college Scouting Matt Turpining, by having
- 2:08:50Speaker 4: staff in their draft room wear shirts reading your Light
- 2:08:53Speaker 4: Lives Lives in on all of us during the fifth
- 2:08:57Speaker 4: round of the twenty twenty five NFL Draft. She died
- 2:09:00Speaker 4: on April twelfth in Louisville while attending a volleyball tournament
- 2:09:04Speaker 4: with her daughters. Those looking to honor Turpening's legacy can
- 2:09:08Speaker 4: donate to the Hamilton County Human Society. You can read
- 2:09:12Speaker 4: her a bit. Okay, so there's links, but that's the
- 2:09:15Speaker 4: story behind the shirts.
- 2:09:16Speaker 3: That's awful.
- 2:09:17Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I mean you notice as soon as the
- 2:09:18Speaker 8: fifth round started, it seemed like teams started putting those
- 2:09:21Speaker 8: shirts on.
- 2:09:22Speaker 4: Yep. Cynthia says, we can get the kicker from the
- 2:09:28Speaker 4: UFL ask barth.
- 2:09:32Speaker 5: I'll leave the kickers in the UFL.
- 2:09:34Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 2:09:34Speaker 3: I'm not going to get into the individual one, but
- 2:09:38Speaker 3: I would just say in terms of draft not draft.
- 2:09:40Speaker 3: If there's one guy that they've identified this is the
- 2:09:44Speaker 3: guy we have to have, then draft them. My guess
- 2:09:47Speaker 3: is that's not the case, and you just you know,
- 2:09:51Speaker 3: figure out who's left and then and be aggressive and
- 2:09:55Speaker 3: sign one.
- 2:09:56Speaker 7: Offer the opportunity to compete.
- 2:09:58Speaker 5: I mean, I asked me Springer when we talked to him, Uh,
- 2:10:02Speaker 5: when was that a couple of months ago now? And
- 2:10:04Speaker 5: I said, do you guys see draftable kickers? You know,
- 2:10:08Speaker 5: do you have draftable grades on any kickers? And uh,
- 2:10:10Speaker 5: he said, you know, draftable and undrafted. And he made
- 2:10:13Speaker 5: a point to mention that they've also been looking at
- 2:10:16Speaker 5: guys that they project as you know, rookie free agents
- 2:10:19Speaker 5: as well. So I think they are probably He made
- 2:10:22Speaker 5: it sound like they're comfortable going either way, you know,
- 2:10:24Speaker 5: if they have to if it ends up being a
- 2:10:26Speaker 5: ud FA, they they're prepared for that.
- 2:10:28Speaker 4: Yep.
- 2:10:29Speaker 3: Good either way. They if they like one enough to
- 2:10:31Speaker 3: draft them, then draft them. Don't don't leave it for chance.
- 2:10:34Speaker 8: It's the fifth round the spot, isn't it isn't there
- 2:10:36Speaker 8: like a history of drafting kickers in the fifth round.
- 2:10:39Speaker 5: Sam Howell got traded. Cool Sam Howel and the Seahawks.
- 2:10:44Speaker 3: Yeah, he was with Seattle.
- 2:10:45Speaker 5: Yeah, now he's in Minnesota.
- 2:10:48Speaker 3: Okay, oh that makes sense for both both teams. That
- 2:10:51Speaker 3: might be quite a bit of a glut.
- 2:10:53Speaker 8: Good friends with Drake may right, and maybe we have
- 2:10:56Speaker 8: they're shoint practices this year at Minnesota.
- 2:10:57Speaker 3: And something that's look at that they have, you have
- 2:11:00Speaker 3: something to so they have that friends. So Drake, you
- 2:11:04Speaker 3: know him, right, they're like best best friends. Your banner
- 2:11:10Speaker 3: is right next to mine at the stadium.
- 2:11:12Speaker 5: Like like vacation together. Tight.
- 2:11:15Speaker 3: Yeah yeah really yeah that close.
- 2:11:16Speaker 4: Yeah, let's see. Walter R. Walker writes in from Berkshire County. Uh,
- 2:11:23Speaker 4: the skill set of these draft picks are strikingly different
- 2:11:26Speaker 4: than previous years. I'm excited Rabel really understood that the
- 2:11:31Speaker 4: offense needed the first four picks. Henderson and Williams are
- 2:11:34Speaker 4: surely electric. Offensive line improves vastly. McDaniels is back. This
- 2:11:39Speaker 4: is most certainly an LFG moment for Patriots Nation.
- 2:11:43Speaker 5: Uh.
- 2:11:43Speaker 4: And by the way, this whole Sanders saga is so interesting.
- 2:11:46Speaker 4: I can't help myself. It started as a humbling experience
- 2:11:48Speaker 4: and now it's turning into this. It's funny and terrible
- 2:11:51Speaker 4: drama at its fine at so many layers, so much drama.
- 2:11:54Speaker 4: Never seen anything like this, I agree, I haven't either.
- 2:11:58Speaker 8: I mean, geez, we're in the fifth round now, which
- 2:12:00Speaker 8: just makes you think that's unprecedented. Yeah, there's it's not
- 2:12:04Speaker 8: just about the player, you know, on the field, what
- 2:12:06Speaker 8: he did.
- 2:12:09Speaker 7: Yeah, hey, is that Germany?
- 2:12:12Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:12:13Speaker 7: Is that just now than.
- 2:12:17Speaker 3: Madrid?
- 2:12:17Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, very different. That's right. The Dolphins are getting rid.
- 2:12:22Speaker 4: I haven't announced who they're playing yet, right, No.
- 2:12:25Speaker 8: No, no, So that's the schedule that they announce. The
- 2:12:28Speaker 8: schedule's gonna come out with what May fourteenth?
- 2:12:29Speaker 4: I think was that what the day was, So that's
- 2:12:31Speaker 4: what they're saying. Yeah, yeah, good.
- 2:12:34Speaker 3: Dolphins have another guy named Jordan Phillips.
- 2:12:36Speaker 5: At one point, there's another Jordan Phillers, maybe on the
- 2:12:39Speaker 5: Bills at least twice.
- 2:12:40Speaker 3: I think he was on the I thought he was
- 2:12:42Speaker 3: on the Dolphins.
- 2:12:43Speaker 7: He might have been a cup of coffee.
- 2:12:45Speaker 4: So Miami's pick at one forty three, Patriots is sitting
- 2:12:49Speaker 4: at one forty six, So we're getting closer.
- 2:12:53Speaker 7: Just a few picks. Uh, yeah, he was. He was
- 2:12:56Speaker 7: one of my other one of my big board guys,
- 2:12:57Speaker 7: what's the same, same kind.
- 2:12:58Speaker 3: Of started his career in Miami.
- 2:12:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I liked I could see them. Farmer and Phillips
- 2:13:05Speaker 5: are are a little similar. Farmers longer, I think that
- 2:13:08Speaker 5: that's that's sort of what tipped me towards him a
- 2:13:10Speaker 5: little bit, has a little bit more length and ability
- 2:13:14Speaker 5: to get off blocks. As a result, I like both
- 2:13:16Speaker 5: of them, though. I thought Phillips was a fun player
- 2:13:18Speaker 5: to watch too.
- 2:13:19Speaker 4: Trade Alert Walter in Ukraine. When was the last draft
- 2:13:24Speaker 4: results for the Patriots that we were this excited about.
- 2:13:27Speaker 3: I don't really time.
- 2:13:29Speaker 5: Yeah, not since I started covering the team, Like you
- 2:13:32Speaker 5: have to go back to when Belichick was Yeah, when
- 2:13:36Speaker 5: he was on a roll.
- 2:13:37Speaker 3: You know, I was pretty I was pretty first round
- 2:13:40Speaker 3: picks Yeah, yeah, that might be.
- 2:13:42Speaker 8: One Jones and high Tower. I mean, you really just
- 2:13:46Speaker 8: remade the front of the defense with that first round
- 2:13:48Speaker 8: of that draft.
- 2:13:50Speaker 4: Ryan and Colorado wants to know what Jared being a
- 2:13:53Speaker 4: physical freak, any chance he could play some full back
- 2:13:55Speaker 4: if he loses the center battle.
- 2:13:58Speaker 5: Maybe yeah, maybe some unbalanced line, you know, six sixth
- 2:14:01Speaker 5: offensive lineman. No, no as any experience, but running out
- 2:14:05Speaker 5: of the backfield. But I could see him, see him
- 2:14:08Speaker 5: playing on the end of the line as a jumpo tight.
- 2:14:11Speaker 7: I'm really intrigued by him.
- 2:14:12Speaker 8: Like he wasn't a guy I spent much time, you know,
- 2:14:15Speaker 8: in passing looked at, you know.
- 2:14:16Speaker 7: Just his blurbs.
- 2:14:17Speaker 8: But just like I said at the top, the combination
- 2:14:20Speaker 8: of size and athleticism just really intriguing. You're only scratching
- 2:14:23Speaker 8: the surface one year starter. You don't even know what
- 2:14:26Speaker 8: he possibly could be, but he has all the traits
- 2:14:28Speaker 8: that you're looking for at that position.
- 2:14:30Speaker 7: And again to just stress the size of it, like there's.
- 2:14:33Speaker 8: So many monstrous interior players when we talk all the
- 2:14:36Speaker 8: time about the guys that like whole strange struggle with,
- 2:14:40Speaker 8: you know, to have that kind of size in the middle,
- 2:14:43Speaker 8: I think would be a real, real benefit for the offense.
- 2:14:46Speaker 4: Yeah, let's get to the phones.
- 2:14:49Speaker 3: We'll go to hold place on the walk again. That
- 2:14:53Speaker 3: Cleveland Brown's trade at one overall to select anyone.
- 2:15:03Speaker 4: So the Browns did, in fact finally get Schador Sanders.
- 2:15:07Speaker 5: So they took Dylan Gabriel and Shadoor Sander. They took Dylan,
- 2:15:11Speaker 5: so they took Dylan Gable first when most people had
- 2:15:15Speaker 5: Shador as the better prospect right than Dylan Gabriel. So
- 2:15:18Speaker 5: now they took two backup quarterbacks essentially. But good for
- 2:15:23Speaker 5: good good thing.
- 2:15:23Speaker 3: I'm glad you got drafted, and I'm glad we can
- 2:15:26Speaker 3: finally stop. But uh, it is kind of interesting, like
- 2:15:31Speaker 3: Dylan Gabriel. If they didn't take Dylan Gabriel, I'd say, wow,
- 2:15:34Speaker 3: Cleveland really worked this perfection. You got a guy that
- 2:15:37Speaker 3: someone thought they could have taken it with the second
- 2:15:39Speaker 3: pick of the draft in the fifth round. Yeah, so
- 2:15:42Speaker 3: it sounds like double dip backup quarterback.
- 2:15:45Speaker 8: It's I mean, it's fascinating, like you know, he's the
- 2:15:47Speaker 8: third string behind another rookie. Like I mean, you guys
- 2:15:49Speaker 8: know how these things like reps are divvied up a
- 2:15:51Speaker 8: certain way like all these.
- 2:15:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's not quite as Uh, he didn't
- 2:15:55Speaker 5: have quite as big of a fault, but it reminds
- 2:15:57Speaker 5: me of Malik Willis, Like and that's why I pulled
- 2:15:59Speaker 5: it up. But Blake will Willis went in the third round.
- 2:16:02Speaker 5: He went eighty sixth overall. But there was a ton
- 2:16:04Speaker 5: of talk that Malik Willison in twenty twenty two is
- 2:16:06Speaker 5: gonna go number one overall in the draft, and he
- 2:16:09Speaker 5: ended up falling all the way to the third round.
- 2:16:11Speaker 5: It's very similar to me in terms of the hype
- 2:16:14Speaker 5: from the media of what they everyone thought the player
- 2:16:16Speaker 5: was going to be and then where the player ended
- 2:16:18Speaker 5: up actually going is similar to me to Malik but
- 2:16:22Speaker 5: even later for Shaudor.
- 2:16:24Speaker 3: Also, the fact that they traded to get into the
- 2:16:27Speaker 3: spot is interesting to me.
- 2:16:29Speaker 8: Cleveland maybe they thought, now you have to have them.
- 2:16:34Speaker 5: It's going to take them.
- 2:16:35Speaker 3: You had all those chances to take and you were
- 2:16:37Speaker 3: telling everybody right he didn't care. Yeah, it's it's an
- 2:16:44Speaker 3: interesting trade for me. Hmm.
- 2:16:47Speaker 4: Okay, So Cleveland takes Shador Sanders.
- 2:16:50Speaker 7: I mean, I can't wait to see what he has
- 2:16:52Speaker 7: to say, how they roll them out.
- 2:16:54Speaker 5: I'm not ruling out that Shador goes on and has
- 2:16:57Speaker 5: a serviceable NFL career as a starter. I know, going
- 2:17:01Speaker 5: into fifth round makes it sound like there's no chance
- 2:17:04Speaker 5: of that happening, because its very seldom does. But I
- 2:17:07Speaker 5: don't rule it out with him that he could actually
- 2:17:10Speaker 5: end up going to have having a decent career.
- 2:17:13Speaker 7: And Who's who's the Browns quarterback right now?
- 2:17:16Speaker 3: Kenny Picknick, Joe Flacco, Kenny pick At, Dylan Gabriel, and
- 2:17:19Speaker 3: Shedas Sanders is their depth chart right? So I don't know.
- 2:17:28Speaker 3: I think I think it's it's interesting.
- 2:17:31Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it's and it's just kind of starting
- 2:17:32Speaker 8: like how this has all started off. I'm just I'm
- 2:17:35Speaker 8: so curious to watch Howard unfolds me knowing last year
- 2:17:39Speaker 8: not entirely same situation, but just what we talked about
- 2:17:42Speaker 8: with Drake May and Joe Milton in the same building,
- 2:17:43Speaker 8: in the same draft class, and I just know.
- 2:17:45Speaker 3: Pittsburgh's like lost an opportunity. I think you had the
- 2:17:49Speaker 3: best of both worlds. You can get that guy who
- 2:17:52Speaker 3: might turn out to be something developmental wise without having
- 2:17:54Speaker 3: to use a significant pick. I just feel like that
- 2:17:58Speaker 3: was a lost opportunity.
- 2:18:00Speaker 4: Let's go to the podium and here the reaction, uh
- 2:18:03Speaker 4: to the announcement.
- 2:18:04Speaker 1: Right on the clock one they passed on Shador one, two, three, four, five,
- 2:18:08Speaker 1: six times and including the leading and Annolly Gabriel last
- 2:18:12Speaker 1: night ninety four to complete the Heisman Trophy finalist quartet
- 2:18:18Speaker 1: from Manhattan being drafted in this draft the other.
- 2:18:22Speaker 4: So they said reaction, the reaction in.
- 2:18:28Speaker 2: The draft Hall says.
- 2:18:30Speaker 4: It all figure car.
- 2:18:32Speaker 3: They didn't know, they didn't know who was gonna.
- 2:18:34Speaker 19: Do it, and by we, I'm I'm in putting every
- 2:18:36Speaker 19: human on the screen, every single person whos been watching
- 2:18:40Speaker 19: the draft cover which anyone else's grawership around draft well.
- 2:18:49Speaker 6: Happen.
- 2:18:49Speaker 4: Maybe if you're a fan, you think you just got
- 2:18:51Speaker 4: the steal of the draft.
- 2:18:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I can hear.
- 2:18:54Speaker 4: You know, like, based on the pre draft analysis, you
- 2:18:58Speaker 4: can make that case very easily that this was the
- 2:19:01Speaker 4: absolute steal of the draft.
- 2:19:04Speaker 7: I'm sure there's interestincs that that that he is.
- 2:19:07Speaker 5: I I it's a it's a fair point. Like, I
- 2:19:09Speaker 5: definitely feel like he was docking multiple rounds from whatever
- 2:19:14Speaker 5: happened in the pre draft process from January to now,
- 2:19:16Speaker 5: you know, whether it was the interviews, whether it was
- 2:19:18Speaker 5: Dion wh whatever it was, I think it docked him
- 2:19:21Speaker 5: at least a couple of rounds easily. So you might
- 2:19:24Speaker 5: feel like, would you feel a lot different as a
- 2:19:27Speaker 5: Browns fan? You know, if you drafted him in the
- 2:19:29Speaker 5: second or third round and then the fifth probably and
- 2:19:32Speaker 5: if you think that he probably should have gone in
- 2:19:34Speaker 5: the second or third round instead, then you feel like
- 2:19:36Speaker 5: you might have gotten a guy.
- 2:19:37Speaker 4: Well. The only thing I'd be upset now if I
- 2:19:38Speaker 4: was a Browns fan is well, we could have had
- 2:19:40Speaker 4: another player instead of Gabriel instead of Games, right, the
- 2:19:44Speaker 4: Gabriel pick was strange.
- 2:19:45Speaker 3: It's more strange now, but it was strange when they
- 2:19:48Speaker 3: made it. Agree It's like he's really small, Yeah, yeah,
- 2:19:51Speaker 3: Gabriel so and he's lefty.
- 2:19:54Speaker 5: Oh he's fast though, he's a good runner.
- 2:19:57Speaker 7: We likes that Patriots are on the clock.
- 2:19:59Speaker 4: Yeah, Patriots on the Eagles pick is in. What do
- 2:20:03Speaker 4: you think sticking with defense here?
- 2:20:06Speaker 5: Tight end?
- 2:20:08Speaker 7: I think tight ends a good call.
- 2:20:09Speaker 5: Tight end.
- 2:20:09Speaker 7: I think tight ends a good call.
- 2:20:10Speaker 3: Tight ends.
- 2:20:12Speaker 5: There are some tight ends left. Gadson from Syracuse's left,
- 2:20:19Speaker 5: Mitchell Evans from Notre Dame, who's coming off that injury.
- 2:20:22Speaker 5: H CJ. DePree, Thomas Fadoni. Uh, but Mitchell Evans, I
- 2:20:27Speaker 5: think is really interesting if they do go tight end.
- 2:20:29Speaker 5: I have no idea if they will, but if they do.
- 2:20:31Speaker 5: He had the torn a cl in twenty three, so
- 2:20:33Speaker 5: he had last year was the first year back from
- 2:20:35Speaker 5: the a CL. So you hope that, you know, maybe
- 2:20:38Speaker 5: with some space in between it, then you know he'll
- 2:20:41Speaker 5: be the player he was before the a cl injury.
- 2:20:45Speaker 5: He was thought of as a as a guy that
- 2:20:48Speaker 5: was going to go pretty high when he you know,
- 2:20:50Speaker 5: was coming out and developing at Notre Dame mac McWilliam
- 2:20:54Speaker 5: is a good pick by Philadelphia Eagles.
- 2:20:56Speaker 3: You just said you don't even have to look at
- 2:20:57Speaker 3: the team. Yeah, you see that the players come up
- 2:21:00Speaker 3: that you know at this stage of the draft, and
- 2:21:02Speaker 3: you're like, well, Baltimore took him.
- 2:21:03Speaker 5: I could have seen the Patriots taking him, you know.
- 2:21:06Speaker 5: So I'm not surprised that the Eagles took him the
- 2:21:08Speaker 5: pick before the Patriots. But Woodson I think maybe ruled
- 2:21:11Speaker 5: that out, and you know, picking kind of a nickel
- 2:21:13Speaker 5: safety already, they probably weren't going to double up on that.
- 2:21:16Speaker 5: But I really liked mac McWilliams at the senior.
- 2:21:18Speaker 7: Parts a lot about him.
- 2:21:19Speaker 5: Yeah, scrappy player, really good cover corner, could play in
- 2:21:22Speaker 5: the slot and probably at the NFL level.
- 2:21:27Speaker 4: Let's see Connor Wrights. And not only did the Browns
- 2:21:29Speaker 4: draft dealing Gabriel before Shador Sanders, but they also traded
- 2:21:32Speaker 4: out of Travis Hunter. I can't stand Dion in all
- 2:21:35Speaker 4: the hype and nonsense around this whole thing, But I
- 2:21:37Speaker 4: hope Chador can find success after this. Maybe he's humbled
- 2:21:40Speaker 4: and a little embarrassed and can turn it into motivation.
- 2:21:43Speaker 4: The Browns, as always make head scratching decisions.
- 2:21:50Speaker 3: I like everything they did except for the Gabriel pick.
- 2:21:54Speaker 3: I can be absolutely talked into the trade that they
- 2:21:59Speaker 3: made early in the I know I'm in the minority,
- 2:22:01Speaker 3: and that's okay. You have you got the ability to
- 2:22:05Speaker 3: get a developmental quarterback anyway. I just I think they
- 2:22:08Speaker 3: could have gotten a player that might have been able
- 2:22:10Speaker 3: to help them instead of Gabriel.
- 2:22:12Speaker 5: I mean, obviously they had to have thought that wasn't
- 2:22:15Speaker 5: going to be here, right.
- 2:22:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think, I mean this is hindsight
- 2:22:19Speaker 3: because you don't know at the time, but I just
- 2:22:21Speaker 3: thought that Gabriel was a kind of a Gabriel to
- 2:22:23Speaker 3: me was a seventh round pick. Yeah, if he were
- 2:22:25Speaker 3: going to do it, I agree. So small, and he
- 2:22:27Speaker 3: was very productive in college. He was he was good
- 2:22:30Speaker 3: at in all three schools that he played at. He
- 2:22:32Speaker 3: was a good player.
- 2:22:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:22:33Speaker 3: I think you started at UCF right, and he went
- 2:22:35Speaker 3: to Oklahoma in Oregon. He's a good college player. I
- 2:22:39Speaker 3: just think he's going to be too small.
- 2:22:41Speaker 4: Yeah, the Patriots pick is in, so we'll we'll hear
- 2:22:46Speaker 4: what it is momentarily.
- 2:22:48Speaker 8: Yeah, if i'm if I might just share in a
- 2:22:50Speaker 8: quick story that Alex if I may Alex shared looking
- 2:22:54Speaker 8: up a little into Joshua Farmer. He lost both his
- 2:22:57Speaker 8: parents by the time he turned eleven. His father when
- 2:23:00Speaker 8: he was two after complications from a botch of stomach surgery.
- 2:23:03Speaker 8: His mother passed away from brain aneurism. He was raised
- 2:23:05Speaker 8: by his grandmother and older siblings, So a lot of
- 2:23:09Speaker 8: a lot of adversity there for him. Long track in arts,
- 2:23:12Speaker 8: is you like these stories? You realize what it means
- 2:23:14Speaker 8: to get to this point?
- 2:23:15Speaker 4: Yeah? Uh, I think it was. Was it Elliott who
- 2:23:19Speaker 4: was in his press commerce talking about Henderson saying that
- 2:23:22Speaker 4: he had a lot of adversity? I think, so do
- 2:23:25Speaker 4: we know what that was?
- 2:23:26Speaker 7: I have to look, I'm not sure.
- 2:23:28Speaker 4: That probably the beast it has it.
- 2:23:30Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:23:32Speaker 4: A lot of these guys have stories that, you know,
- 2:23:35Speaker 4: required them to overcome something that you know, lesser people
- 2:23:39Speaker 4: wouldn't be able to overcome, you know. So, uh, all right,
- 2:23:45Speaker 4: so the Patriots pick is in.
- 2:23:46Speaker 24: We should be getting it anytime now, checking my phone
- 2:23:50Speaker 24: any day now, Okay, Yeah, I think.
- 2:23:57Speaker 4: I think, uh, Deuce is gonna like that one.
- 2:24:00Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah, I think this is gonna like this?
- 2:24:03Speaker 7: How much am I gonna like it? Am I gonna
- 2:24:05Speaker 7: like it?
- 2:24:05Speaker 3: Yeah, how much can you like one and forty six pick?
- 2:24:08Speaker 7: Oh, I can like, well, I had him on the
- 2:24:09Speaker 7: Big Boy, then I'll really like him.
- 2:24:11Speaker 3: And I'm hoping the Big Boy even even Paul like this.
- 2:24:18Speaker 5: Yeah, so this is a real edge rusher, right, So
- 2:24:20Speaker 5: they're they're happy. I'm happy hitting tapping that class for
- 2:24:24Speaker 5: deuce over there. So speed to power rusher, good thickness
- 2:24:28Speaker 5: sixty three to two fifty five, another guy with longer
- 2:24:31Speaker 5: you know, arms above average length over thirty three inches,
- 2:24:34Speaker 5: and I just look at him as somebody that can
- 2:24:37Speaker 5: really get extended and convert speed to power coming off
- 2:24:41Speaker 5: the edge. And had a really great production last year
- 2:24:43Speaker 5: at LSU. Sixty total quarterback pressures at LSU last year
- 2:24:47Speaker 5: and thirty one stops in twenty twenty four against the run.
- 2:24:50Speaker 5: So productive player, uh, physical player, I would say, you know,
- 2:24:55Speaker 5: as that burst in that energy off the snap to
- 2:24:57Speaker 5: be able to win with pure speed. But I think
- 2:25:00Speaker 5: he's at his best, you know, pressing the pocket with
- 2:25:03Speaker 5: his power in his length. I thought that he was
- 2:25:06Speaker 5: going to go much higher than this. You know a
- 2:25:08Speaker 5: lot of people had him projected in the top one
- 2:25:10Speaker 5: hundred of this draft. So you wonder there what was
- 2:25:14Speaker 5: the situation.
- 2:25:15Speaker 3: You know exactly.
- 2:25:17Speaker 5: I don't know if there's an injury there or something
- 2:25:19Speaker 5: like that that that pushed him down the board. But
- 2:25:23Speaker 5: like I said, sixty total pressures in college and what
- 2:25:26Speaker 5: twelve games is that's a lot that that's getting after
- 2:25:29Speaker 5: the quarterback. So you want to pure edge rusher, a
- 2:25:32Speaker 5: guy that can really get after the QB outside the
- 2:25:35Speaker 5: tackle and win and pressure the QB that way. That
- 2:25:38Speaker 5: this is it.
- 2:25:39Speaker 8: It got him, know Will Campbell pretty well imagine there
- 2:25:42Speaker 8: was some good, good battles there in practice.
- 2:25:44Speaker 7: So yeah, now this is uh, this is good. I
- 2:25:46Speaker 7: like what they're doing.
- 2:25:47Speaker 8: You know, acknowledging day three, these are flyers, but still
- 2:25:50Speaker 8: the traits are there. I think it would have been
- 2:25:52Speaker 8: a mistake to get through this edge class and not
- 2:25:54Speaker 8: take at least these guys coming from a big program.
- 2:25:58Speaker 7: So that's funny how how these things were?
- 2:26:00Speaker 6: Right?
- 2:26:01Speaker 4: Oh, just how the board fell?
- 2:26:02Speaker 7: Please?
- 2:26:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I know that we it's day three
- 2:26:07Speaker 5: and all should keep that in perspective. But I really
- 2:26:11Speaker 5: thought that Swinson had had upside to be a potential
- 2:26:15Speaker 5: starter in the league. Like you know, a lot of
- 2:26:17Speaker 5: people had him in the top their top one hundreds.
- 2:26:19Speaker 5: You know, third round pick territory. Like usually when you
- 2:26:22Speaker 5: draft a guy in the third round, you're thinking that
- 2:26:24Speaker 5: maybe that guy could develop into a starter. So this
- 2:26:26Speaker 5: is what I've been talking about with the depth of
- 2:26:28Speaker 5: the edge class. You know, some of these guys just
- 2:26:30Speaker 5: got pushed down the board here pretty significantly, and he
- 2:26:33Speaker 5: was he was kind of the last one of the
- 2:26:36Speaker 5: run here and the Patriots get him. So good stuff.
- 2:26:39Speaker 4: Let's get to the phones. We'll clear them out before
- 2:26:41Speaker 4: we say goodbye for today. Scott's and Dudley. What's up Scott.
- 2:26:47Speaker 25: And gentlemen, thanks for your service today. So I have
- 2:26:53Speaker 25: a couple of different things. The first thing I was
- 2:26:56Speaker 25: going to ask about is our defensive line or front.
- 2:27:01Speaker 25: Most of these guys are strong on the pass rush,
- 2:27:04Speaker 25: but I don't know how strong.
- 2:27:05Speaker 12: They of them run. What's your take on potentially getting
- 2:27:10Speaker 12: somebody I know they just got farm up, but getting
- 2:27:12Speaker 12: getting a little bit more heft in the middle to
- 2:27:16Speaker 12: make sure you don't get run on.
- 2:27:19Speaker 8: I mean, I feel pretty good where they're at right now.
- 2:27:21Speaker 8: You know, between Tonga and Farmer, you have some some
- 2:27:26Speaker 8: size there to play with. You've got you got a
- 2:27:28Speaker 8: lot of holdover guys.
- 2:27:29Speaker 7: In there too.
- 2:27:30Speaker 8: I don't know if they'll get anything out of Jeremiah Farms,
- 2:27:32Speaker 8: Eric Johnson or Jaquelin Roy or Marcus Harris or Titus Leo.
- 2:27:37Speaker 8: You know, they have a bunch of names there, But
- 2:27:39Speaker 8: in terms of the guys that they've drafted and actually
- 2:27:41Speaker 8: signed up, I mean I feel okay, I think I'm
- 2:27:43Speaker 8: kind of in the Paul camp of like, we'll figure
- 2:27:45Speaker 8: out how to stop the run.
- 2:27:46Speaker 3: Well, I think Tonga was was acquired with that kind
- 2:27:50Speaker 3: of thing in mind.
- 2:27:50Speaker 8: They needed a big space eater. There's always those three
- 2:27:52Speaker 8: hundred and thirty pound guys like, you.
- 2:27:53Speaker 3: Know, if you're gotchaw, they let go. So yeah, I
- 2:27:57Speaker 3: mean they got He's right, they got run on last year.
- 2:28:00Speaker 3: I keep saying the defense was just as bad as
- 2:28:02Speaker 3: everything else.
- 2:28:03Speaker 4: Last says, you know, worry about the run on your
- 2:28:05Speaker 4: own time, you know.
- 2:28:08Speaker 8: But if anything, if you have you can find big,
- 2:28:10Speaker 8: big fatties to put in the middle. I think there's
- 2:28:12Speaker 8: always like they're always finding the Carl Davises of the
- 2:28:14Speaker 8: world or you know, those kind of guys.
- 2:28:16Speaker 4: But there are those times where we get frustrated because
- 2:28:20Speaker 4: they're not they're getting run over.
- 2:28:21Speaker 8: Well, I mean but I would say, I mean, I
- 2:28:23Speaker 8: would honestly say I think some of their run problems
- 2:28:25Speaker 8: last year was as much about having linebackers that can't
- 2:28:28Speaker 8: get to the ball, can't get off blocks, can't get
- 2:28:29Speaker 8: through blocks, can't get a round blocks, and.
- 2:28:32Speaker 3: Just ask you know, right, I'll tell you.
- 2:28:35Speaker 4: Let's go to Rio and what's up Rio?
- 2:28:41Speaker 23: Hey, gentlemen, appreciating the coverage here, enjoying Day three. Nice
- 2:28:46Speaker 23: picks and one in particularly really got my my mind
- 2:28:50Speaker 23: turning when they took Josh, a farmer like me, He's
- 2:28:54Speaker 23: a hybrid guy. In my comp for him, they came
- 2:28:57Speaker 23: up right away was Red Bryan's gap, and I'm wondering
- 2:29:02Speaker 23: this is going to be a little bit more for
- 2:29:03Speaker 23: the ball Nowork crowd and maybe Mike, he loves this defense.
- 2:29:06Speaker 23: But do you see them maybe trying to bring in
- 2:29:08Speaker 23: some of the principles of that Seattle cover three, Because
- 2:29:12Speaker 23: now you've got a guy that can play that that
- 2:29:14Speaker 23: big end, you've got your explosive free technique, you've got
- 2:29:18Speaker 23: a bunch of guys just they drafted Swinton and Head
- 2:29:21Speaker 23: in that Leo role, and then you've got a couple
- 2:29:23Speaker 23: of box safeties where you know they can really get
- 2:29:26Speaker 23: them down close to the line of scrimmage and force
- 2:29:28Speaker 23: the run while keeping some athleticism on the field.
- 2:29:30Speaker 4: Thrown around the HR, you're trying to recreate that a
- 2:29:33Speaker 4: little bit.
- 2:29:34Speaker 7: I followed it all. I felt pretty pretty good about that,
- 2:29:37Speaker 7: you know.
- 2:29:38Speaker 8: I I I just the least moved away from that,
- 2:29:41Speaker 8: that cover three defense. It's a lot more match quarters
- 2:29:45Speaker 8: that kind of stuff. So I'm not sure in terms
- 2:29:47Speaker 8: of like what kind of coverages they're primarily going to
- 2:29:50Speaker 8: be running.
- 2:29:50Speaker 7: It's it's a it's a good question.
- 2:29:52Speaker 8: I'd especially tie in the safeties to that. I don't
- 2:29:54Speaker 8: know how they plan on balancing that out is you know,
- 2:29:58Speaker 8: do they have that true free safety Earl Thomas tight
- 2:30:01Speaker 8: who's just going to play back there?
- 2:30:03Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 2:30:03Speaker 7: I don't see it quite one.
- 2:30:04Speaker 8: For one, again, I know the least gotten away from
- 2:30:06Speaker 8: that that style of defense. Even Pete Carroll was getting
- 2:30:08Speaker 8: away from it at the end, so I guess it's
- 2:30:10Speaker 8: not the end he's renewed now. But no, it's a
- 2:30:14Speaker 8: really good question and something I'm fascinated to see because
- 2:30:18Speaker 8: you know, even last year you had the same safety
- 2:30:20Speaker 8: coaches and defensive back coaches, you had a lot of
- 2:30:22Speaker 8: the same coverage philosophies.
- 2:30:24Speaker 7: I would say, do those change, I will see.
- 2:30:26Speaker 5: Yeah, they're going to be an up the field defense.
- 2:30:29Speaker 5: We've definitely talked about that, and they're going to be
- 2:30:31Speaker 5: a four to three They're going to get up the field.
- 2:30:33Speaker 4: You know.
- 2:30:34Speaker 5: Swinson, I think, will be more of a third down
- 2:30:37Speaker 5: situational pass rusher. We've talked a lot about Chase on
- 2:30:41Speaker 5: today is maybe in that role for twenty five, but
- 2:30:44Speaker 5: maybe you hope that that Swinston can either push them
- 2:30:46Speaker 5: or or maybe be a long term play. They're in
- 2:30:49Speaker 5: that type of role for them, But I don't know
- 2:30:53Speaker 5: if they'll necessarily go Seattle three. That's not really what
- 2:30:55Speaker 5: Rabel was doing in Tennessee. But I think they're going
- 2:30:58Speaker 5: to play a lot of man coverage in New England.
- 2:31:01Speaker 5: I think you're gonna play a ton of man.
- 2:31:02Speaker 4: All right, Well, listen two and a half hours on
- 2:31:05Speaker 4: day three, sous into round five. Patriots went all defense today.
