- 1:35Speaker 1: Does anybody really truly know how much water are you
- 1:43Speaker 1: supposed to be drinking on a daily basis for longevity?
- 1:48Speaker 1: What are the health experts saying. I was on last
- 1:53Speaker 1: night googling this, and I've had I've had discussions with
- 1:58Speaker 1: with friends and with with Sharon. You're drinking too much water.
- 2:02Speaker 1: You're not drinking enough water. You're drinking too much water.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Don't put anything in your water. Put some lemon juice
- 2:07Speaker 1: in your water, don't do anything. Just don't drink water
- 2:10Speaker 1: at all. Water too much water is bad for you.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Drink coffee instead. Does anybody really know what the sufficient
- 2:19Speaker 1: amount of water it is that you're supposed to be
- 2:22Speaker 1: drinking every day? You google this and if sixty four ounces,
- 2:31Speaker 1: that's what I saw last night, Becky. But if you
- 2:37Speaker 1: keep googling, you'll see no, no, that's too much, or no, no,
- 2:40Speaker 1: that's not enough, a certain percentage of your body weight,
- 2:43Speaker 1: all that fun stuff. I don't know. Don't put lemon
- 2:49Speaker 1: juice in there. It's not good for you. Do put
- 2:52Speaker 1: lemon juice in there, it's good for the kidney. Whatever.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Happy birthday morning to Crystal Palmer. Matt Abar. Haven't seen
- 3:04Speaker 1: him in a long time, Jenna Salerno, Mike Schumacher on
- 3:10Speaker 1: the birthday list today. Looks like, let's see who else
- 3:17Speaker 1: do I have? Mackenzie deads is today the seventh? Holy crap,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Alina Tamassi. We have jen Buskani I Hope, I'm I'm sorry, Jennef,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I've got that wrong. Laura Lawrence, Tyler Kahoun on the
- 3:40Speaker 1: list today. We won't say he's forty four. Peter Case
- 3:47Speaker 1: is celebrating one today. Look at this list. Annette Heart,
- 3:51Speaker 1: Happy birthday, Michelle tetrou and Caitlin Caitlin Marie all celebrating
- 4:03Speaker 1: birthdays today. Look, wait, the list is still going. Andy Wakefield,
- 4:09Speaker 1: Hope Bell. Do you know any of these folks? Give
- 4:12Speaker 1: him a shout? Dakota Laflahem. It's a lot of birthdays
- 4:18Speaker 1: on this day, number seven of twenty twenty five. It
- 4:23Speaker 1: doesn't matter who the man of the year is. What
- 4:33Speaker 1: matters is the color of the year. And according to
- 4:40Speaker 1: Benjamin Moore, that color is cinnamon slate. Where can you
- 4:45Speaker 1: find it directly across the street from where I'm sitting
- 4:49Speaker 1: right now? Maybe fifty yards? Okay, maybe sixty yards. Nelson
- 4:58Speaker 1: Ace Hardware, they've got it. Cinnamon slate. If you're doing
- 5:02Speaker 1: any indoor projects this winter, and I don't know who
- 5:08Speaker 1: would be doing any outdoor projects right now. And if
- 5:13Speaker 1: it's paint that you're thinking about doing, you're done with
- 5:16Speaker 1: the spackle, You've got the mud, it's taped, it's sanded,
- 5:20Speaker 1: it's all ready to go. Before you buy your paint,
- 5:24Speaker 1: consider Benjamin Moore, Consider Nelson A's hardware. Consider this cinnamon slate.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It is the color of the year. Flying the Wall
- 5:36Speaker 1: Productions bringing you the aired out podcast this morning, which
- 5:40Speaker 1: is going to be interesting. I'll tell you why in
- 5:41Speaker 1: a second. From Facebook and YouTube, where we are streaming
- 5:45Speaker 1: live and streamed everywhere you get your podcasts and on
- 5:48Speaker 1: the web. It aired out VT dot com on this
- 5:52Speaker 1: National temper a day today. I love Tempora. The roads.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'll tell you my drive in this morning was generally uneventful. However,
- 6:04Speaker 1: when I got to ride around Stones, things were getting
- 6:10Speaker 1: real greasy, and I think at the time my car
- 6:15Speaker 1: was showing like nine degrees eight or nine degrees something
- 6:18Speaker 1: like that. It was it's just that that fine sugar
- 6:23Speaker 1: snow coming down in the combination of the temperatures and whatnot.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And I've seen that I see the crews out dropping
- 6:31Speaker 1: sand this morning. But the roads were really really uh
- 6:40Speaker 1: slick just in that last you know, mile and a
- 6:45Speaker 1: half two miles coming in this morning, so be careful.
- 6:50Speaker 1: See the cars outside the studio window here that are
- 6:54Speaker 1: moving a lot faster than they were when I came in,
- 6:57Speaker 1: but just be careful. I'm seeing some reports a little
- 7:04Speaker 1: slippery on on eighty nine, but eighty nine apparently is
- 7:07Speaker 1: not bad on the VT Roads page. I think it
- 7:13Speaker 1: kind of you know, depends on not only what you're driving,
- 7:18Speaker 1: but also what kind of tires you have. And even
- 7:21Speaker 1: if those two things are great, if you're driving like
- 7:23Speaker 1: an ass uh, then that's not gonna matter. So just
- 7:27Speaker 1: allow plenty of space between you and the guy in
- 7:30Speaker 1: front of you. But yeah, last night a couple of
- 7:36Speaker 1: a couple of slide offs Williston Road down to the
- 7:45Speaker 1: h the turnaround all black ice last night and even
- 7:51Speaker 1: this morning. So what I've what I've been told skun
- 7:56Speaker 1: Coller Road and Jericho closed multiple vehicles off the road there,
- 8:02Speaker 1: So that's one point seventeen. Just you know, avoid that
- 8:06Speaker 1: area if you can. Heinzberg very very slick this morning,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and some pictures coming in. But if you're you know,
- 8:16Speaker 1: if you're on the big road, if you're on the interstate,
- 8:18Speaker 1: just exercise some caution and remember that it's better to
- 8:25Speaker 1: be a few minutes late than get into a vender bender.
- 8:29Speaker 1: This morning, all right, please just go easy if you can.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Today is Tuesday. Yes, we're going to be talking about
- 8:41Speaker 1: wellness Wednesday, you bet, But Tuesdays are special days here
- 8:47Speaker 1: for me. I always get excited because Chris is going
- 8:51Speaker 1: to be coming by with the world my fresh copy,
- 8:55Speaker 1: and there's Deb with us. Good morning, Deb, how are you?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Oh good this lovely day.
- 9:01Speaker 1: What do you say to people, Deb, when they say so,
- 9:06Speaker 1: so where do you work? You say the world? That
- 9:09Speaker 1: must blow people's minds.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yes, they're like, oh, okay.
- 9:19Speaker 1: How's Gary doing over there? Is he pulling the rest
- 9:22Speaker 1: of his hair out? What's left of it?
- 9:24Speaker 2: No? No, he's out shoveling right now.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I was just saying on the air, it's pretty
- 9:30Speaker 1: slick this morning. It kind of I think depends on
- 9:33Speaker 1: where you are and how you're driving. But it's greasy
- 9:36Speaker 1: and these temperatures aren't really helping much. So yeah, go easy.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Chris is going to be coming by here at some
- 9:46Speaker 1: point momentarily he I love this guy. He just walks
- 9:49Speaker 1: right in. He delivers my my fresh copy of the
- 9:52Speaker 1: World newspaper. I always look forward to it. And as
- 9:56Speaker 1: I said to you, you know, every time I talk
- 9:59Speaker 1: with the I always look forward to sitting down with
- 10:01Speaker 1: the world. What can we expect in today's copy this week?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Well, we have part two of the Healthy New Year.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It has lots of tips on meeting your health goals
- 10:14Speaker 2: for twenty twenty five. We have poetry from a Very
- 10:18Speaker 2: City fourth grader and many more local port poets in
- 10:22Speaker 2: the poetry section. And then the fundraiser for the Aldrich Library,
- 10:29Speaker 2: the Hanniford's Blooming for Good. For every bouquet purchase during
- 10:33Speaker 2: the month of January, the library will receive a dollar
- 10:36Speaker 2: donation from Hannifords.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Wow, yes, that was in last week's copy too, I think,
- 10:42Speaker 1: wasn't it.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yes, Yes, yep, we wanted to keep getting that word out.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's wonderful. Keep going. I'm listening to.
- 10:50Speaker 2: You, okay, And we don't want you to miss the
- 10:54Speaker 2: weekly grocery specials from our two local markets, the Granite
- 10:58Speaker 2: City Market and Pump and Pant. They have lots of
- 11:01Speaker 2: really good specials this week.
- 11:04Speaker 1: It was so great to hear about the Winter Solstice
- 11:09Speaker 1: high school basketball up at the auditorium. That it was
- 11:12Speaker 1: a huge success and you guys blasted that all over
- 11:16Speaker 1: the world, which was so cool.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yes, definitely, yep, and.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Listen, dev let's mention a vtdashworld dot com I think
- 11:27Speaker 1: is the website. You can always have a look at
- 11:31Speaker 1: the digital version of the paper, right.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yes, that's up already. So people want to look at
- 11:37Speaker 2: this week's get a sneak preview. Yes, they just go
- 11:41Speaker 2: to that website and we have a full digital version
- 11:44Speaker 2: of the paper every week.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I love I love the world. I love thumbing through
- 11:50Speaker 1: the pages. If folks want to advertise, what's the best
- 11:54Speaker 1: way to do that is so simple, by the way,
- 11:56Speaker 1: But what's the best way to do it?
- 11:58Speaker 2: Deb Well, they can give us a call and then
- 12:02Speaker 2: we will assign a salesperson to meet with them and
- 12:06Speaker 2: or work out whatever advertising they need.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's that easy. And if you know, if you're
- 12:12Speaker 1: not savvy with this kind of stuff, just leave it
- 12:15Speaker 1: up to the team over at the World. They'll help
- 12:17Speaker 1: you design something. They'll get the colors just right, they
- 12:20Speaker 1: get the size just right, and they'll break it down
- 12:22Speaker 1: for you in terms that you can you can understand. Yes,
- 12:27Speaker 1: good stuff, Deb, Thank you so much for hopping on
- 12:30Speaker 1: with us on Tuesdays. I always look forward to chatting
- 12:33Speaker 1: with the es. Say hello to Gary Forrest and we'll
- 12:36Speaker 1: be in touch with you soon.
- 12:37Speaker 2: All right, Thanks Jad, Thanks good day.
- 12:40Speaker 1: There's step Phillips live with us on Tuesday mornings over
- 12:44Speaker 1: at the World Newspaper right here in central Vermont, reaching
- 12:49Speaker 1: over what twenty thousand plus readers every single week. It's
- 13:00Speaker 1: a lot. I'm going to attempt to connect with our
- 13:07Speaker 1: buddy John Duprees over at Dupries Towing. I'm sure are.
- 13:14Speaker 3: You there, brother, man? What the fuck is going on?
- 13:19Speaker 1: You're life on the air. You're life on the air there.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Bud, I got bad service? Oh yeah, oh they are
- 13:28Speaker 3: hear now.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I can hear you. Tell us what's what's happening in
- 13:34Speaker 1: all the roads? Man? It's pretty slick.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Yeah, the roads suck right now. I mean it's toen degrees,
- 13:39Speaker 4: it's snowing out. You know, it's it's slimy.
- 13:43Speaker 3: It sucks. But you know, if people would learned to
- 13:46Speaker 3: slow down to be a right yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Uh, that's that's what we've been pushing this morning. I'm
- 13:51Speaker 1: not seeing any huge bang ups are you? Are you?
- 13:55Speaker 2: Uh?
- 13:56Speaker 4: No, couple slide off, but nothing. I haven't seen any
- 13:59Speaker 4: recess more.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Okay, I've seen I've seen the crews out drop in sand,
- 14:05Speaker 1: which you don't often see, but at least uh Route
- 14:10Speaker 1: three oh two and twenty five. I saw that this morning.
- 14:14Speaker 4: So what I learned recently is the reason they dropped
- 14:18Speaker 4: sand instead of salt on paved roads is it actually
- 14:21Speaker 4: does get too damn cold apparently for salt to work. Yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 4: so they just say scure and they dumped the sand
- 14:27Speaker 4: on it, which I had no idea, but that actually
- 14:29Speaker 4: makes a lot of sense.
- 14:30Speaker 1: All right.
- 14:32Speaker 3: But I'm not a road guy. I'm I'm a toe guy.
- 14:34Speaker 4: You know.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you're the toe daddy, Yes, sir? So what do you?
- 14:39Speaker 1: What are you up to today? I mean, what are
- 14:41Speaker 1: you doing? Are you? Are you just waiting for your
- 14:43Speaker 1: phone to ring? I'm surprised it hasn't.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Bro I've been on the road till five o'clock this
- 14:48Speaker 4: morning and I didn't get home till eleven thirty last night.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Ouch, don are you able to share with us? And
- 14:56Speaker 1: maybe you're not what you had on the back of
- 14:58Speaker 1: your flatbed yesterday?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Oh?
- 15:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I had a twenty twenty four Tesla cyber truck.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I'm sorry, brother, brother man, here's the real kicker. When
- 15:14Speaker 4: I got to the guy's house to deliver it to him, yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 4: you would never believe who owns that truck?
- 15:20Speaker 1: Are you able to share?
- 15:23Speaker 3: I can, as long as I don't give out the
- 15:25Speaker 3: information of where he lives. And I told him I
- 15:27Speaker 3: definitely would not. You know, wwwe right.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Yeah, triple h Yeah, no way, bro, it's his cyber truck.
- 15:39Speaker 3: They weren't even let me on the property.
- 15:40Speaker 4: I had to drop it out on the road and
- 15:42Speaker 4: I met his bodyguards out there.
- 15:45Speaker 1: You got to be kidding me? Are you serious?
- 15:47Speaker 3: Dude? Swear to God? Swear to God. Ain't that wild?
- 15:54Speaker 1: It? It is wild?
- 15:57Speaker 3: I think because I'm so he had the truck. It
- 16:02Speaker 3: had issues.
- 16:02Speaker 4: We towed it from his house a week or so
- 16:05Speaker 4: ago to Tesla and Burlington.
- 16:08Speaker 3: And when I went.
- 16:10Speaker 4: To Burlington to pick it up and bring it back
- 16:11Speaker 4: to him, I'm a big dude, and ninety nine percent
- 16:15Speaker 4: of vehicles that I get in I have to move
- 16:17Speaker 4: the seat back and down.
- 16:19Speaker 3: His truck, I did not. I did not have to
- 16:21Speaker 3: leave the seat at all, So that explains a lot.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Did you have to move? Have you ever had to
- 16:29Speaker 1: move my seat in my car?
- 16:33Speaker 3: Dude? Are you kidding me? You're basically helping the steering wheel.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Of course I got to move in I can't even
- 16:38Speaker 4: get one leg into your car.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 16:43Speaker 1: You know, listen, if you got a cyber truck in
- 16:46Speaker 1: the back of your your flatbed and it's all smashed
- 16:50Speaker 1: to hell, we can understand. We can understand that it
- 16:54Speaker 1: was involved in an action and that's why it's being flatbeded.
- 16:58Speaker 1: But this this thing didn't have a scratch on it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And just the fact that you had a cyber truck
- 17:09Speaker 1: in the back of your flatbed rolling down the highway
- 17:12Speaker 1: is not the greatest advertising for for Tesla.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Actually, if anybody would have asked me, I'd say totally
- 17:22Speaker 4: different Tesla. We do a boatload of towing for Tesla,
- 17:26Speaker 4: and they are amazing when it comes to warranty.
- 17:30Speaker 3: I mean, they will pay to have anything towed. It
- 17:33Speaker 3: doesn't even matter if it's a flat tire. Dude, I
- 17:36Speaker 3: kid you not.
- 17:36Speaker 4: This past summer, I towed a car from White River
- 17:39Speaker 4: to Burlington, picked up a rental, towed it back to
- 17:42Speaker 4: White River. Two days later, I picked up the rental,
- 17:44Speaker 4: towed it to Burlington, and then towed their car back
- 17:47Speaker 4: to them, and it was all covered under warranty over
- 17:49Speaker 4: a flat tire.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yeah, but what's the what's I understand flat tires both.
- 17:53Speaker 1: What's the MSRPs on these things?
- 17:57Speaker 3: Oh my god?
- 17:58Speaker 4: Well, the cyber truck is like one hundred fifty thousand,
- 18:00Speaker 4: which is wild because I only paid one hundred and
- 18:02Speaker 4: thirty for my tow truck. So I mean to have
- 18:04Speaker 4: something sitting on the back that's worth more than the
- 18:06Speaker 4: truck that's tewing, it's a little.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Whild So you know, if if I was spending that
- 18:11Speaker 1: kind of money on a vehicle, I wouldn't expect anything
- 18:14Speaker 1: to go wrong with it. Uh, at least for the
- 18:18Speaker 1: first year or two. That would be needing to be flatbedded. Buddy,
- 18:27Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Right Well, I mean, I definitely think it could have
- 18:31Speaker 4: been driven up to up to Burlington, but you know,
- 18:35Speaker 4: from where from where he was at, it was like
- 18:39Speaker 4: one hundred and forty miles one way, right, and being
- 18:44Speaker 4: who he is, he just didn't have probably just didn't
- 18:46Speaker 4: have time or just didn't want to do it, and
- 18:48Speaker 4: you're scared, I'll just you know, I'll have Tesla toe
- 18:50Speaker 4: and if they don't.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Pay for it, I will right so and back.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So Tesla paid for the original toe and then they
- 18:56Speaker 4: paid me directly.
- 19:00Speaker 3: To tell it back to them.
- 19:02Speaker 1: My man, I told you yesterday. I'll tell you again.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I think you should write a little a little book,
- 19:07Speaker 1: the life of of a tow truck driver. I mean
- 19:11Speaker 1: it's you've just got some interest. This is just this
- 19:14Speaker 1: is just one day. But you have so many interesting stories, buddy.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, man, I could go on all day long.
- 19:22Speaker 4: But you know, like it gets to the point where
- 19:23Speaker 4: people are like, come on, I feel like you're kind
- 19:25Speaker 4: of filling me full of shit.
- 19:26Speaker 3: And I'm like, I promise you I'm not.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I know, I know. Well listen, buddy, you get back
- 19:32Speaker 1: to it. Uh. Drive carefully, I think is the message
- 19:35Speaker 1: from du priestowing this morning. No matter who you are,
- 19:38Speaker 1: where you are, and no matter what.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, just real quick, Yeah people, slow down, drive careful.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Make sure you have good winter tires.
- 19:47Speaker 5: Uh.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Make sure your gas tank is topped off the case
- 19:49Speaker 4: you get to do an accident, you know, you slide
- 19:50Speaker 4: off the road or whatever, you could stay warm. Uh,
- 19:53Speaker 4: make sure you check your oil, your washer fluid, all
- 19:55Speaker 4: that good stuff, and uh, yeah, you'll be all right.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Always important to check the oil, Yes, sir, thank you, buddy,
- 20:06Speaker 1: Love you to pieces over and out. John Dupree from
- 20:12Speaker 1: Dupries Towing this morning, check in with this. Yeah it is.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It is very slick out there. Please go easy. These
- 20:20Speaker 1: temperatures well mid teens right now, I think for most
- 20:25Speaker 1: of us hearing from aunt. Uh it is warming up,
- 20:29Speaker 1: but it's not going to go much. We're looking at
- 20:32Speaker 1: upper teens later today, maybe seventeen eighteen degrees. Yes, we
- 20:39Speaker 1: will post a picture of the cyber truck on the
- 20:43Speaker 1: back of the flatbed. We will get that up there,
- 20:46Speaker 1: of course we will. Well, at least I'll try. Yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 1: And you know, Linda's got a great point here. If
- 20:54Speaker 1: you go off the road, stay inside your your vehicle.
- 20:58Speaker 1: It's the safest place to be. People are going to
- 21:03Speaker 1: see you. Hopefully you'll be able to make a phone call,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and if you can't, hopefully somebody else will be able
- 21:11Speaker 1: to see you and make a phone call for you
- 21:13Speaker 1: on your behalf. All right, but yes, upper teens later today,
- 21:19Speaker 1: snow showers continuing. How much snow. Let's see if I'll
- 21:25Speaker 1: see if I can get I'm not really seeing any
- 21:29Speaker 1: amounts here, but bu up, I'm looking for Yeah, I'm
- 21:37Speaker 1: looking for it. I'm looking for Roger Hill and I'm
- 21:42Speaker 1: not seeing anything. So usually that means that it's whatever
- 21:47Speaker 1: does fall from the sky is not going to be
- 21:50Speaker 1: that much. So weather forecast says snowshowers. I know that, uh,
- 22:00Speaker 1: in other parts of the country they're getting nailed. I
- 22:04Speaker 1: think I heard between now and like tomorrow night that
- 22:12Speaker 1: we could get a couple of inches. But it certainly
- 22:14Speaker 1: isn't going to be anything significant and certainly not going
- 22:18Speaker 1: to be anything that we can't handle. So snowshowers today,
- 22:22Speaker 1: Tonight we're down to eight degrees with flurries. Wednesday we've
- 22:27Speaker 1: got cloudy skies and twelve degrees, and Thursday looking ahead,
- 22:34Speaker 1: cloudy and eighteen degrees. So there you have it. VT Roads.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I'm watching their page pretty carefully this morning, and I'm
- 22:46Speaker 1: not seeing anything really major. A lot of people asking
- 22:51Speaker 1: about parts of Williston and Burlington, grand Isle and what not.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Some photos of the black ice this morning near River
- 23:07Speaker 1: Road at the Williston Road junction this morning. But yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 1: as uh as du Priest Towing just said there. He's
- 23:18Speaker 1: been out since since five this morning, and you'll see
- 23:23Speaker 1: the cruise dropping sand this morning, which which I saw
- 23:28Speaker 1: on my drive in, so uh yeah, I'm just glancing
- 23:35Speaker 1: through here to look for for anything else. That's some
- 23:40Speaker 1: crawling through Essex right now and some crawling into Barry
- 23:44Speaker 1: City this morning. When I was coming in, it was
- 23:48Speaker 1: I mean, traffic was was barely moving, so it you know,
- 23:52Speaker 1: all that's the thing. It's like it's it's good one
- 23:54Speaker 1: minute and then the next, uh, you're sliding. So just
- 24:00Speaker 1: exercise some caution this morning, Today's Tuesday. Dan Moland is
- 24:08Speaker 1: going to be coming on the air with us at
- 24:10Speaker 1: some point soon. G's gonna be back on Thursday, Rex
- 24:15Speaker 1: on Friday. We may be able to connect with our
- 24:22Speaker 1: city manager this morning to talk about the jj Newberry building,
- 24:31Speaker 1: which I think most of us know has resurfaced in
- 24:36Speaker 1: the news and there's a lot of chat about this
- 24:42Speaker 1: and a lot of opinions about this, and some frustrations,
- 24:50Speaker 1: some tempers flaring already about the news of Berry City
- 24:57Speaker 1: Council trying to by this building from Jeff Jacobs. This
- 25:08Speaker 1: building has been vacant for a very long time. You've
- 25:14Speaker 1: heard me complain about it on the air for a
- 25:18Speaker 1: long time, way back into mid to early days when
- 25:26Speaker 1: I was on the air Froggy and had our Mayor
- 25:31Speaker 1: Tom Loson on with me several times back then sharing
- 25:36Speaker 1: a microphone with me and talking about that building. And
- 25:42Speaker 1: I think we all know. I mean, it's pretty obvious
- 25:46Speaker 1: what an eyesore it is and how it's certainly not
- 25:51Speaker 1: doing anything to help our city, wouldn't help any city,
- 25:58Speaker 1: And they've been through There's been other towns in Vermont
- 26:03Speaker 1: who have been through similar situations where they've got an
- 26:08Speaker 1: aging property that has just aged out and not really
- 26:14Speaker 1: able to be purchased from a practical standpoint and rented.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Barry is not unique to this problem. The thing about
- 26:30Speaker 1: that particular building, the JJ Newberry Building right here on
- 26:34Speaker 1: North Main Street, is it's huge. It is a large,
- 26:41Speaker 1: large building. And one of the things that I've been
- 26:46Speaker 1: consistently saying for a long time about this is not
- 26:52Speaker 1: only how large it is, but where it's located is
- 26:56Speaker 1: not a good thing either. So I've reached out to
- 27:04Speaker 1: Steve McKenzie. He is going to be sharing a microphone
- 27:11Speaker 1: with me next week, not sure on the exact date
- 27:16Speaker 1: of this, and Tom Loson is also going to be
- 27:23Speaker 1: coming in here and discussing this. I think most of
- 27:33Speaker 1: us have seen the story that CIX did. I think
- 27:37Speaker 1: it was ci X or it may have been PTC,
- 27:42Speaker 1: I can't remember, but it was. It was all over Facebook.
- 27:47Speaker 1: You've seen the signs that have been made that are
- 27:51Speaker 1: on the front of that building four hundred K for
- 27:55Speaker 1: what this this this building is in really bad shape
- 28:04Speaker 1: and it has been for a long time. Think about
- 28:08Speaker 1: I mean, I think the news said fifteen years, but man,
- 28:11Speaker 1: it's been.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Wow.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I think I think it's been a lot longer than that,
- 28:18Speaker 1: but maybe I'm wrong. But we've had two monster storms, floods.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I can only imagine what's happening inside of that building.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I can only imagine that's probably the last place I
- 28:41Speaker 1: would want to have a tour to go in there
- 28:44Speaker 1: and look around. I just can't even imagine. So what's
- 28:50Speaker 1: going to happen. Will it be sold, will it be
- 28:55Speaker 1: able to be purchased? If there's a million ifs here,
- 29:00Speaker 1: and if it is, then what's going to happen. Will
- 29:08Speaker 1: it be restored, will it be torn down? Will it
- 29:11Speaker 1: be turned into a parking lot. There's a lot of
- 29:17Speaker 1: us that have opinions about what should be done with
- 29:21Speaker 1: that property, how much of an ice ore it has
- 29:27Speaker 1: been for a long long time in the Granite City,
- 29:32Speaker 1: and what Jeff Jacobs should do, Why he hasn't done
- 29:39Speaker 1: what so many of us have wondered, why he hasn't done.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Why the selling price is and has been what it
- 29:55Speaker 1: was for so long, which is an astronaut cle amount
- 30:00Speaker 1: of money. I think it was like what one point
- 30:02Speaker 1: four million or something like that, something absolutely absurd. Uh yeah,
- 30:11Speaker 1: should be condemned absolutely. Uh yeah. Don't even get me
- 30:22Speaker 1: going Darlene on on the roller skating rink thing. Don't
- 30:27Speaker 1: don't do that to me, I will uh. And I
- 30:37Speaker 1: think I think I had said a while ago that
- 30:39Speaker 1: it should be turned into a roller rink, and some
- 30:42Speaker 1: people took me seriously, it's not big enough for a
- 30:44Speaker 1: roller skating rink, at least I don't think it is.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Maybe it is.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Should it be a parking lot, should it be housing?
- 30:56Speaker 3: Is?
- 30:56Speaker 1: You know, what if this falls through? What if? What if?
- 30:59Speaker 1: What if we're not able to get it? What if
- 31:05Speaker 1: Barry City residents are not able to secure this property
- 31:14Speaker 1: with their pocketbooks? Then what happens where is Jeff Jacobs.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Does he even live in Vermont anymore? Has he been
- 31:30Speaker 1: brought into these discussions in the past, Has he been
- 31:35Speaker 1: to city council meetings? These are all questions that I
- 31:41Speaker 1: have that maybe you know the answers to. Would I
- 31:50Speaker 1: would love to ask some of our dignitaries here in
- 31:55Speaker 1: the Granite City these very questions and see if we
- 31:58Speaker 1: can get some answers. So we're going to talk about
- 32:05Speaker 1: this a little bit more this morning. Before we close out,
- 32:08Speaker 1: I want to say a huge tip of the hat
- 32:12Speaker 1: to Washington County Mental Health for looking after so many
- 32:18Speaker 1: of us here in central Vermont and frankly beyond. People
- 32:24Speaker 1: come from all over to the Granite City on Wednesdays,
- 32:28Speaker 1: which is tomorrow, for this community based event, if you will,
- 32:36Speaker 1: that Washington County Mental Health has been doing for a
- 32:38Speaker 1: long long time, the first couple of Wednesdays of every
- 32:41Speaker 1: month over at the Well Spaced Building on Summer Street.
- 32:45Speaker 1: They call it Wellness Wednesday. This is what they do.
- 32:48Speaker 1: They get a bunch of practitioners together that specialize in
- 32:53Speaker 1: different things from acupuncture, acupressure, sound, healing, massage, and the
- 33:03Speaker 1: list goes on. They get them all together reiki, I
- 33:07Speaker 1: mean a lot of different stuff. And these practitioners offer
- 33:14Speaker 1: these services to anyone. There's no eligibility requirements. It doesn't
- 33:21Speaker 1: matter who you are. They offer this to you for free.
- 33:27Speaker 1: You never hear that word anymore free. Some of these
- 33:33Speaker 1: things they like to do by appointment, just to kind
- 33:35Speaker 1: of space it out and schedule it out from a
- 33:38Speaker 1: logistical term. But it's back and people are so excited
- 33:42Speaker 1: about it, and it's tomorrow. It is Wednesdays from four
- 33:46Speaker 1: thirty until seven o'clock upstairs at the well Space building,
- 33:49Speaker 1: twenty three Summer Street, which is like right behind our
- 33:54Speaker 1: studios here. So January eighth is tomorrow, then the fifteenth,
- 34:03Speaker 1: then they're going to do February fifth, and twelfth and nineteenth.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Then they're going to do March fifth, twelfth, and nineteenth,
- 34:14Speaker 1: and April second, ninth, and sixteenth. So the first three
- 34:19Speaker 1: Wednesdays of the month from four thirty to seven. They say,
- 34:26Speaker 1: and I think that this may be not accurate. They
- 34:29Speaker 1: say that around five hundred people have benefited from Wellness Wednesday.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I think that number is. It wouldn't surprise me if
- 34:39Speaker 1: it was at least double that, especially the mindfulness meditation.
- 34:46Speaker 1: They do all kinds of stuff over there, traditional non traditional.
- 34:54Speaker 1: It is absolutely wonderful. Parking is upstairs for those that
- 35:01Speaker 1: that require you just drive around the side and it
- 35:03Speaker 1: just brings you right up and you know again it's
- 35:07Speaker 1: free twenty three Summer Street. So we were just chatting
- 35:12Speaker 1: about the JJ Newberry building and I want to bring
- 35:19Speaker 1: on somebody who knows all about this subject. Nicholas Starelli Castro.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Good morning, sir, morning dad. Are you very well listen.
- 35:30Speaker 1: We've got a lot of comments already this morning. We
- 35:32Speaker 1: chatted about this a little bit the other day when
- 35:36Speaker 1: this story broke, and we've chatted with Steve Mackenzie who
- 35:41Speaker 1: says he's he's going to be coming on probably next week.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Tom Lowson is also going to be coming on and
- 35:48Speaker 1: talking about this. But this is a big deal. You
- 35:50Speaker 1: know that this building has been vacant for hundreds of
- 35:55Speaker 1: thousands of years, it seems like. And one of the
- 35:59Speaker 1: things that I have been admittedly complaining about since way
- 36:06Speaker 1: back when I was on Froggy with Tom is the
- 36:11Speaker 1: location of this JJ Newberry building is on the north
- 36:17Speaker 1: side of the street, which catches all of the sun
- 36:23Speaker 1: in the afternoon and it just lights that up and
- 36:27Speaker 1: puts the spotlight on this vacant building which has been
- 36:31Speaker 1: deteriorating for for a long time. Now, you know, you
- 36:34Speaker 1: know that everyone knows.
- 36:36Speaker 5: That it's a nice ore. It's not only not only
- 36:39Speaker 5: the is it lit up, but it's it's right in
- 36:42Speaker 5: the middle. You can't walk up and down our beautiful
- 36:46Speaker 5: downtown without seeing it, you know. And and so I'm
- 36:52Speaker 5: I'm excited about the possibility of finally addressing this problem.
- 36:58Speaker 5: There's still a long ways to go, but but hey,
- 37:00Speaker 5: we you know, we got the landlords on a hook here, right,
- 37:03Speaker 5: and there's a pathway to having site control of this
- 37:09Speaker 5: eyesore that has you know, it's been a market failure
- 37:12Speaker 5: for fifteen years at least.
- 37:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:15Speaker 5: And so I think it's a chance to do something good.
- 37:19Speaker 5: You know, we have needs gaps in the community, we
- 37:23Speaker 5: have limited places to develop, and for this prime location
- 37:28Speaker 5: to be not just under utilized, but sitting there the
- 37:31Speaker 5: way it is is I think it's it's a shame
- 37:33Speaker 5: and it's it's a great opportunity to try to finally
- 37:36Speaker 5: do something about it.
- 37:37Speaker 1: This is not the first time that this has been
- 37:39Speaker 1: brought up in city council. I mean this is this
- 37:42Speaker 1: this kind of hits a little bit and then it
- 37:45Speaker 1: kind of goes a little dormant, and then it comes back.
- 37:49Speaker 1: One of the questions that I get asked all the time.
- 37:52Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, I'm getting asked at right now.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Does he, presumably the property owner, Jeff Jacobs, does see
- 38:02Speaker 1: have any responsibility to take care of it? Should the
- 38:05Speaker 1: city require him to keep it up to code? Are
- 38:07Speaker 1: there any like, for lack of a better term, penalties there.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I mean, there are within the within the bounds of
- 38:14Speaker 1: state law and city ordinances. And they're doing the bare minimum.
- 38:18Speaker 1: They're they you know, they're they're clever, they're smart right there.
- 38:22Speaker 1: They do the bare minimum to to skate by. And
- 38:26Speaker 1: they were recently inspected in December. They have to do
- 38:29Speaker 1: some follow up work based on that inspection by the
- 38:31Speaker 1: city and the state, and so they but but but
- 38:36Speaker 1: they know how to do the you know, just enough
- 38:40Speaker 1: to to not trigger uh further legal you know issues.
- 38:45Speaker 1: And and I would say too to people that this
- 38:48Speaker 1: is not you know, if there was an easy way
- 38:50Speaker 1: to wrestle problem properties from bad landlords, we'd have done it.
- 38:56Speaker 1: You know, there's other you know, this is not something
- 38:59Speaker 1: that is easy to do. We've talked to city attorneys
- 39:03Speaker 1: about doing this, and the reality is that if you
- 39:05Speaker 1: go down these paths of trying to wrestle a property
- 39:09Speaker 1: like this away, you're gonna end up in the courts,
- 39:12Speaker 1: and you're gonna end up with a coin flip in
- 39:14Speaker 1: the courts after you probably spend hundreds of thousands of
- 39:17Speaker 1: dollars to do so. Right, So you're taking a gamble
- 39:22Speaker 1: on something that may or may not work, and you're
- 39:24Speaker 1: dumping a ton of money into it. And I you know,
- 39:26Speaker 1: there's somebody mentioned that the council meeting a comment or mentioned,
- 39:32Speaker 1: you know, a health order. There's a pending health order
- 39:35Speaker 1: in the City of Barry from two thousand and six
- 39:38Speaker 1: on that property. No no, no, no, no, no no,
- 39:41Speaker 1: on a different property.
- 39:42Speaker 5: But that's just as an example of health orders, you know,
- 39:46Speaker 5: do we that's longer than this building's been vacant, right,
- 39:50Speaker 5: So you know, those systems don't always work the way
- 39:55Speaker 5: we expect them to either. And if you know, certainly
- 39:58Speaker 5: we could try to pursue a health order if we'd
- 39:59Speaker 5: like the property to be vacant for another twenty years,
- 40:01Speaker 5: because that's how long this other health order has has
- 40:05Speaker 5: been in effect in that. You know, that's not a
- 40:07Speaker 5: situation where that that property owner has the resources of
- 40:10Speaker 5: a Jeff Jacobs who can fight this kind of stuff
- 40:11Speaker 5: in sure, right, So he's got another guy with him too, Yeah,
- 40:16Speaker 5: a lot of resources. Yeah, you you said in the
- 40:21Speaker 5: news some ideas for you know, there's a lot of
- 40:27Speaker 5: things going on here.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Can the city get it? If they can't, then what
- 40:32Speaker 1: if they can get it, what's the price tag? Who's
- 40:36Speaker 1: paying for that? When will that be decided? And best
- 40:40Speaker 1: case scenario, the building's been the property has been acquired.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Now what what's gonna I mean, Yeah, Ford parking lot.
- 40:47Speaker 1: I think you mentioned, you know, in that space, which
- 40:51Speaker 1: is prime real estate housing, which is of course the
- 40:55Speaker 1: biggest buzzword that this city has had.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:01Speaker 5: Look, I think that BADC has been very transparent that
- 41:04Speaker 5: they don't have an interest in developing it. I don't
- 41:07Speaker 5: think they have the capacity to develop it. They've been
- 41:10Speaker 5: very transparent that they'd be very willing to work with
- 41:12Speaker 5: the city on turning it over to city ownership if
- 41:15Speaker 5: they are successful in securing the funds to execute the
- 41:18Speaker 5: purchase option. Right, So I don't foresee that being a
- 41:22Speaker 5: struggle with them they they've been very clear that, you know,
- 41:24Speaker 5: the city may have even better access to resources for
- 41:28Speaker 5: what needs to be done to that site, which may
- 41:30Speaker 5: be some environmental probably obviously a demolition. I think that
- 41:34Speaker 5: that structure is going to be any good. And a
- 41:37Speaker 5: lot of times municipal governments have more access to grants
- 41:40Speaker 5: resources to do that kind of stuff than a nonprofit right.
- 41:43Speaker 5: So they've been very clear if it's if it's the
- 41:46Speaker 5: city council's will to be the property owner, they are
- 41:51Speaker 5: willing to do that. And they've also been very clear
- 41:54Speaker 5: that the use of the property will be open to
- 41:57Speaker 5: a community discussion through the city council as well.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Right, And and my.
- 42:01Speaker 5: Point, you know, when I did a memo and support
- 42:02Speaker 5: of this when the council was ratifying, I noted for
- 42:05Speaker 5: context that the lot has approximately the same footprint as
- 42:10Speaker 5: the Seminary Street lot where we're building thirty two units
- 42:13Speaker 5: of housing. So could we build thirty two units of
- 42:16Speaker 5: housing there? I don't know, because an engineer has to
- 42:19Speaker 5: help us determine that. My point is it could host
- 42:23Speaker 5: something like that, maybe it could be more, maybe it
- 42:25Speaker 5: could be less. It be very beautiful retail space on
- 42:29Speaker 5: the first floor and or a community space. Right, there's
- 42:33Speaker 5: there's I think there's a whole lot of options for
- 42:36Speaker 5: it that the community can decide once site control is attained.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Bottom line, it was presented as right around a million bucks,
- 42:51Speaker 1: with that being six hundred going being going to.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Who, six hundred raised by B eighty s got it,
- 43:00Speaker 5: and four hundred thousand pledged by the City council assuming
- 43:04Speaker 5: BADC finds the balance.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Okay, how would city council do that? How would city
- 43:10Speaker 1: council find four hundred k?
- 43:12Speaker 5: So we have we have about nine hundred sixty thousand
- 43:18Speaker 5: dollars remaining in the Special Projects Fund. So you might
- 43:20Speaker 5: remember special Projects Fund is what became of the ARPA
- 43:25Speaker 5: funding that we didn't fully expend, right, So this was
- 43:29Speaker 5: a this was a tool. Creating a Special Projects Fund
- 43:32Speaker 5: was a tool to allow us to be more thoughtful
- 43:35Speaker 5: deliberative in how we spend that ARPA money because our
- 43:38Speaker 5: PA money had a December thirty first deadline to be committed, right,
- 43:41Speaker 5: So in November, at our recommendation, the City Council created
- 43:45Speaker 5: a Special Projects Fund which was basically the you know,
- 43:49Speaker 5: the remnants of our but and there's about nine hundred
- 43:51Speaker 5: and sixty thousand dollars left there, so there's a balance there.
- 43:55Speaker 5: The Eugen Cozy Trust will be coming to the city.
- 43:59Speaker 5: We don't know the final amount yet because his estate
- 44:01Speaker 5: is still being sorted out, but that stands to be
- 44:04Speaker 5: in the millions of dollars as well for things like
- 44:06Speaker 5: capital improvement improvements of this community. So there are resources
- 44:11Speaker 5: to do it.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Now.
- 44:11Speaker 5: You know a lot of people who spoke up at
- 44:13Speaker 5: the council meeting, were you know a gas that you
- 44:17Speaker 5: know we're spending four hundred thousand dollars on on purchasing
- 44:22Speaker 5: this property potentially as opposed to infrastructure. Now, look, I
- 44:26Speaker 5: love spending money on infrastructure. We need to spend money
- 44:28Speaker 5: on infrastructure. We spend a million dollars on capital improvement
- 44:33Speaker 5: every year i've been manager. On the other hand, you
- 44:38Speaker 5: know we have a twenty five million dollar capital improvement
- 44:42Speaker 5: plan through twenty thirty. That means we've identified twenty five
- 44:44Speaker 5: million dollars in needs, right.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I mean through twenty thirty. You and I were just
- 44:49Speaker 1: talking about the water treatment plan and bridges.
- 44:52Speaker 5: And bridges and everything right across the board infrastructure. So
- 44:57Speaker 5: I just I want to be very clear, I would
- 44:59Speaker 5: love to spend every dollar we can on infrastructure. I
- 45:02Speaker 5: don't want people to think that if we spent this
- 45:05Speaker 5: four hundred thousand dollars on infrastructure instead of on this acquisition,
- 45:10Speaker 5: that our infrastructure problems would be solved. So that's I
- 45:14Speaker 5: just want to be very candid about that. Are our
- 45:16Speaker 5: infrastructure problems are much greater, and I believe we have
- 45:19Speaker 5: to have the ability to walk and chew gum at
- 45:21Speaker 5: the same time. Opportunities to address this vacant eyesore property
- 45:27Speaker 5: don't come around very often, in fact, maybe only a
- 45:30Speaker 5: handful of times in the last fifteen years, and so
- 45:33Speaker 5: I think it's important to give it a shot.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:35Speaker 5: And again, if I'd love to spend that four hundred
- 45:39Speaker 5: thousand dollars on infrastructure, but that's not the panacea for us, right.
- 45:43Speaker 5: We still have many needs beyond that, As you mentioned, JD.
- 45:46Speaker 5: We talked a lot about the headworkspond that thank you
- 45:49Speaker 5: for the voters for approving. That's the beginning of the
- 45:52Speaker 5: water wastewater treatment plan upgrades. That's the beginning. So we
- 45:56Speaker 5: have a lot of needs. This four hundred thousand dollars
- 46:00Speaker 5: ain't going to solve all of them, uh, and so
- 46:02Speaker 5: I think we have to be nimble and flexible, and
- 46:03Speaker 5: we have to do all of the things that that
- 46:07Speaker 5: our city needs to move forward.
- 46:08Speaker 1: How did this this whole thing come up? All of
- 46:11Speaker 1: a sudden, people are driving down North Main Street and
- 46:16Speaker 1: they see these signs all over the front of the
- 46:20Speaker 1: JJ Newberry building. So this was something that that got
- 46:25Speaker 1: out from a city council meeting. Yeah, so those.
- 46:28Speaker 5: City council was briefed about the potential option a few
- 46:33Speaker 5: times in executive session, and then after after one of
- 46:38Speaker 5: those executive sessions, the council had hurt enough, you know,
- 46:41Speaker 5: to make a decision, and they made They took a
- 46:44Speaker 5: vote in public, right, they voted in public to pledge
- 46:46Speaker 5: the four hundred thousand dollars towards this project. And because
- 46:51Speaker 5: of because that action was taken and it wasn't on
- 46:54Speaker 5: the agenda, they had to come back and ratify that decision.
- 46:57Speaker 5: And so that's when at that meeting on December thirtieth,
- 47:01Speaker 5: is when we had some members of the community speak
- 47:04Speaker 5: up about this acquisition and and then some of the
- 47:09Speaker 5: signs emerged on the building after after that. But you know,
- 47:12Speaker 5: the action was valid. You know that the council frequently
- 47:17Speaker 5: is briefed about many issues in executive session that should
- 47:20Speaker 5: be discussed in executive session, like real estate, like labor,
- 47:23Speaker 5: like personnel, and this happened to be a real estate
- 47:26Speaker 5: transaction which which was discussed appropriately in executive session, and
- 47:31Speaker 5: after the Council had heard enough, they made their decision
- 47:34Speaker 5: in a public session which is on video and free
- 47:37Speaker 5: for everyone to see on the on the website.
- 47:39Speaker 1: I think we all agree that it would just be
- 47:45Speaker 1: nice to have something anything, well maybe not anything, but
- 47:51Speaker 1: something nice for our city to go in that spot,
- 47:55Speaker 1: and that it is long, long, long, over two. Yeah,
- 48:00Speaker 1: I agree.
- 48:01Speaker 5: I think that, you know, I look at the needs
- 48:04Speaker 5: we have across the board. You know, we we're either
- 48:07Speaker 5: in a housing crisis or we're not right. And if
- 48:10Speaker 5: we are in a housing crisis, if people believe we're
- 48:13Speaker 5: in a housing crisis, all options have to be on
- 48:15Speaker 5: the table. New development like this, infill all of it,
- 48:20Speaker 5: not not one option is not better than the other.
- 48:22Speaker 5: We need to be doing them all. And you know,
- 48:26Speaker 5: berries four square miles, we don't have a ton of
- 48:28Speaker 5: space to grow, and we don't have a ton of
- 48:31Speaker 5: flat surfaces to build up. This is a this is
- 48:34Speaker 5: a location where we can build up three four floors
- 48:37Speaker 5: right up and build some flood resilient housing.
- 48:40Speaker 1: You know, I'm maybe filling the river that's running underneath
- 48:43Speaker 1: that building, that building.
- 48:45Speaker 5: And but you know, I'm appalled every you know, every
- 48:48Speaker 5: start of the new year, I see you know, calls
- 48:51Speaker 5: out for hey, you know, can teachers live with you?
- 48:53Speaker 5: We're looking for housing for teachers. You know, wouldn't it
- 48:57Speaker 5: be nice to have housing for teachers right on our
- 48:59Speaker 5: main streets so we don't have to, you know, be
- 49:02Speaker 5: putting them up in in in in bedrooms. We have
- 49:05Speaker 5: a workforce channel. Let's draw people to this city, right
- 49:08Speaker 5: and let's build a nice building there that we can
- 49:12Speaker 5: be proud of it. And I think, you know, one
- 49:15Speaker 5: thing I'm hoping we get from B. A. D. C.
- 49:16Speaker 5: Is some some renderings on what is possible there, because
- 49:19Speaker 5: I think right now it's it's easy to you know,
- 49:23Speaker 5: for people to to be mobilized against us because we
- 49:26Speaker 5: don't know what's possible. And I think when people see
- 49:28Speaker 5: what could happen there, hopefully there'll be an impetus to
- 49:32Speaker 5: support it, because I think it could be really transformative
- 49:34Speaker 5: the way in many way City Place was for this city,
- 49:37Speaker 5: which which was obviously well before my time. But but
- 49:39Speaker 5: I've heard the parallels between what's possible at this side.
- 49:42Speaker 1: And what happened there any any new developments on the
- 49:47Speaker 1: the building of apartments Seminary Street Seminary. It is proceeding
- 49:55Speaker 1: quite smoothly. They uh DRB hearing happened late last year year.
- 50:01Speaker 1: I believe the deadline came and went for any objections
- 50:03Speaker 1: to that DRB decision. We are currently working with D. E. W.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Down Street and ever North, which are the partners on
- 50:12Speaker 1: that building, on a development agreement which will come to
- 50:15Speaker 1: the city Council. We've listed the thirty day notice in
- 50:18Speaker 1: the paper as required by the charter. So I think
- 50:22Speaker 1: everything is going along really great there. I suspect that
- 50:26Speaker 1: groundbreaking could happen later this fall and and that'll be
- 50:31Speaker 1: you know, thirty two units. Right.
- 50:33Speaker 5: Nothing this needs at right here in Barry City. Maybe
- 50:38Speaker 5: housing for people who were impacted by the floods who
- 50:40Speaker 5: didn't get a buy out, housing for teachers, for nurses
- 50:44Speaker 5: who come to work at the medical center. Sure, so
- 50:46Speaker 5: I think that it's a it's a we have great partners.
- 50:48Speaker 5: You know, these are the same partner, the same builders
- 50:51Speaker 5: of City Place, which is a beautiful building same partners
- 50:54Speaker 5: who worked on the in Montpelier on a similar building.
- 50:57Speaker 5: So I'm very excited about how it's going to tryans
- 51:00Speaker 5: formed that that part of our downtown.
- 51:01Speaker 1: And I know this is off the cuff and well
- 51:04Speaker 1: obviously when Tom comes in here, we'll chat with them
- 51:06Speaker 1: about this too. But is because I'm asked about it too.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Is there any Are there any developments about Prospect Heights?
- 51:12Speaker 1: Is there anything? Yeah? Is this moving? It's moving.
- 51:15Speaker 5: We the council recently approved some funding for the due
- 51:19Speaker 5: diligence environmental due diligence to happen at that site. We
- 51:24Speaker 5: have a kickoff meeting for that happening, I believe next
- 51:27Speaker 5: week myself in the engineering firm, so that'll be going on.
- 51:31Speaker 5: It'll take several months, so they have to do some
- 51:33Speaker 5: wetlands analysis and that can't happen until that can only
- 51:36Speaker 5: happen between May and October. So I think people should
- 51:39Speaker 5: be not expect to hear too much until that's completed.
- 51:42Speaker 5: But it's certainly it's moving in the right direction.
- 51:46Speaker 1: Okay, listen, man, thank you so much for coming in.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Happy to be here. This is this is wonderful people,
- 51:55Speaker 1: no matter how they feel about it. Of something to
- 52:01Speaker 1: take away. This is great information, that's critical. We need it.
- 52:05Speaker 1: We need it.
- 52:06Speaker 5: In my as, I did a lot of thinking about
- 52:08Speaker 5: sort of where the staff recommendation would be on this,
- 52:11Speaker 5: and I, you know, it came down to to me,
- 52:14Speaker 5: this is low risk, right. If b ADC doesn't come
- 52:17Speaker 5: up with the balance of the money, we don't cut
- 52:19Speaker 5: any checks and that four hundred thousand dollars stays with
- 52:22Speaker 5: the city and we do things like infrastructure. If b
- 52:25Speaker 5: a DC pulls this off and they find six hundred
- 52:27Speaker 5: thousand dollars to execute this purchase option, that's a great
- 52:30Speaker 5: problem to land on my desk. I love that, you know,
- 52:33Speaker 5: let's let's do something with its property. And so that's
- 52:37Speaker 5: why I landed where I did, which is, let's, you know,
- 52:40Speaker 5: let's give this a shot. And I'm glad that you
- 52:43Speaker 5: know that the council was bold enough to take a
- 52:46Speaker 5: take this shot and give it, you know, give us
- 52:49Speaker 5: an opportunity to have some site control right in the
- 52:52Speaker 5: middle of our downtown.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be just tremendous. I've been waiting for
- 53:00Speaker 1: or the day when something happens to that property for
- 53:04Speaker 1: a long time. A lot of people and a lot
- 53:06Speaker 1: of people, A lot of people have thanks for coming in, Nickle,
- 53:10Speaker 1: Happy New Year to you as well. Be careful on
- 53:12Speaker 1: the cords there, there's there's a lot of them. And
- 53:15Speaker 1: again Steve McKenzie will be in with us at some
- 53:19Speaker 1: point next week and we look forward to continuing that
- 53:26Speaker 1: that conversed, this conversation about the JJ Newberry building. A
- 53:32Speaker 1: lot of comments here, a lot of comments, and hopefully uh,
- 53:40Speaker 1: some members of our city council and maybe Nicholas himself
- 53:45Speaker 1: will have a chance to, uh to respond to some
- 53:48Speaker 1: of these. Listen, no matter what, let's just all take
- 53:55Speaker 1: a deep breath about the whole JJ Newberry building thing here.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Let's try to figure this out. Hopefully we'll have a
- 54:05Speaker 1: nice resolution here to a problem that this city has
- 54:13Speaker 1: been attached to for a long time. Okay, I know,
- 54:18Speaker 1: pretty hot topic. I and a lot of money.
- 54:23Speaker 2: But.
- 54:25Speaker 1: We'll take it one step at a time, all right,
- 54:29Speaker 1: go easy today. I don't care if you're driving, I
- 54:34Speaker 1: don't care if you're walking out the onto the sidewalk,
- 54:40Speaker 1: if you're leaving your home, be careful. Temperatures very cold,
- 54:47Speaker 1: a little bit of snow coming down still and maybe
- 54:50Speaker 1: up to a few more inches here between today and tomorrow,
- 54:54Speaker 1: so uh, just go easy please looking forward to G
- 54:58Speaker 1: on Thursday, the G Spot Friday Rex will be in here.
- 55:09Speaker 1: I'm just looking at my calendar. I don't know how
- 55:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna pull this off. There's a lot of stuff
- 55:15Speaker 1: going on this week in only so many hours in
- 55:19Speaker 1: the day to fit it in. God bless. Make sure
- 55:22Speaker 1: you grab a fresh copy of the World today. And
- 55:27Speaker 1: thanks to Central Mount Home Health in Hospice, our newest
- 55:35Speaker 1: presenting sponsor, which I'm thrilled about. Lots to talk about
- 55:41Speaker 1: with regard to Central Mount Home Health in Hospice and
- 55:44Speaker 1: all the great things that they're doing for our community.
- 55:47Speaker 1: And I can't and we've had Sandy Rus on the
- 55:49Speaker 1: air just recently and I can't wait to share with
- 55:52Speaker 1: you some more things that they're doing. It's a lot
- 55:55Speaker 1: of stuff. Be good, everybody, take good care. Take care
- 55:59Speaker 1: of your neighbor today. Make sure that the heat's on
- 56:03Speaker 1: in their home, especially if you know someone who is
- 56:07Speaker 1: disabled or somebody who is elderly. Just give a quick
- 56:13Speaker 1: check on it. Okay, if they need anything, run over
- 56:15Speaker 1: to Nelson A's Hardware, grab it form and be a
- 56:18Speaker 1: good neighbor, all right, Take good care God bless, we'll
- 56:21Speaker 1: catch you real soon. Thanks to Nicholas Starley, castro Our
- 56:25Speaker 1: city manager for just joining us a short time ago,
- 56:29Speaker 1: John Dupries from Dupries Towing for hopping on the air
- 56:32Speaker 1: with us this morning, and of course Deb Phillips over
- 56:36Speaker 1: at the World for giving us a snapshot of what
- 56:39Speaker 1: to expect in this week's World, which is out today.
- 56:44Speaker 1: God bless, we'll talk to you soon. Bye bye.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Object to.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Step to
- 57:21Speaker 2: The pat
