- Lucas: Hello again, and welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 53 — can you believe it? We've come a long way. Lucas: We have. And today, we're going somewhere you probably go all the time: the grocery store. Luna: Oh, I love grocery shopping. I could spend hours just looking at everything. Lucas: Same here. So let's learn some French phrases you can use next time you're at a supermarket or a local market. Luna: Let's do it. I'm ready. Lucas: First, a classic: 'I would like some bread.' In French, that's 'Je voudrais du pain.' Luna: Je voudrais du pain. Lucas: Perfect. 'Je voudrais' means 'I would like,' and 'du pain' means 'some bread.' Let's break it down: je voudrais du pain. Luna: Je voudrais du pain. I love how it sounds. Lucas: Good. And how would you ask 'Where are the fruits?' in French? Luna: Ooh, I remember 'où' means 'where.' So... où sont les fruits? Lucas: Exactly right. 'Où sont les fruits?' — 'Where are the fruits?' 'Où' is 'where,' 'sont' is 'are,' and 'les fruits' is 'the fruits.' Luna: Où sont les fruits? Lucas: Yes. Now, let's say you also want some milk. 'I would like some milk' is 'Je voudrais du lait.' Luna: Je voudrais du lait. That's similar to bread, just change 'pain' to 'lait.' Lucas: Exactly. 'Du' is used for masculine nouns like 'pain' and 'lait.' So, 'je voudrais du lait.' Luna: Je voudrais du lait. Lucas: Now, once you've decided what you want, you can say 'I'll take this.' In French, 'Je prends ça.' Luna: Je prends ça. So 'je prends' is 'I take,' and 'ça' is 'this.' Lucas: That's it. 'Je prends ça.' Very handy when you're pointing at something. Luna: Je prends ça. I can already see myself using that. Lucas: And finally, when you're done, you say 'Thank you, good evening' — 'Merci, bonsoir.' Luna: Merci, bonsoir. That's polite and friendly. Lucas: Exactly. 'Bonsoir' is used in the evening. During the day, you'd say 'bonne journée.' Luna: Good to know. So, let me try a little scene. I walk into a grocery store and I want to find bread. Lucas: Okay, go ahead. Luna: Bonjour. Je voudrais du pain. Où sont les fruits? Lucas: Nice! You asked for bread and where the fruits are. Now, maybe you see some milk and decide to take it. Luna: Je voudrais du lait. Je prends ça. Merci, bonsoir. Lucas: That was perfect! You just completed a whole shopping trip in French. Luna: Oh, that felt good. I'm ready to go shopping now. Lucas: Let's practice once more. Repeat after me: Je voudrais du pain. Luna: Je voudrais du pain. Lucas: Où sont les fruits? Luna: Où sont les fruits? Lucas: Je voudrais du lait. Luna: Je voudrais du lait. Lucas: Je prends ça. Luna: Je prends ça. Lucas: Merci, bonsoir. Luna: Merci, bonsoir. Lucas: Excellent. Keep practicing these, and next time you're at a grocery store, try them out. Luna: I will. Thanks for another fun episode, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome, Luna. And thanks to all our listeners. Keep learning with Fexingo, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Bonsoir everyone!
