- 0:23Speaker 1: dot org. Golf dot Breck dot org. Hey, the New
- 0:26Speaker 1: Orleans Saints have gone and made the thing official. They've
- 0:30Speaker 1: announced all of their coaches formally. We knew them all
- 0:34Speaker 1: already because they've all been reported and but it's official now.
- 0:39Speaker 1: All the assistants have been named. So all the people
- 0:41Speaker 1: who we've talked about over the last month, they're all
- 0:43Speaker 1: now formally been announced by the New Orleans Saints hashtag breaking.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Bigger question around the Saints is how they're going to
- 0:51Speaker 1: fix this roster now. The coach having new coaches and
- 0:54Speaker 1: all is fantastic. You can be high on Ellen Moore
- 0:56Speaker 1: and all that good stuff.
- 1:00Speaker 2: High on Ellen Moore and Ellen Moore.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I mean, after after the car news last week, I
- 1:07Speaker 1: just kind of want to lean into it a little bit,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but clearly the bigger thing the New Orleans Saints have
- 1:14Speaker 1: to fix is the roster and that is going to
- 1:17Speaker 1: be a in my opinion, a years long process, and
- 1:20Speaker 1: it's going to take a lot of strong work in
- 1:23Speaker 1: the draft. It's really your only way out of this.
- 1:27Speaker 1: You've got to get young, inexpensive players who will overtake
- 1:32Speaker 1: your old expensive players while their contracts purge that that's
- 1:36Speaker 1: your way out of this. You've got to hit in
- 1:38Speaker 1: the draft. But as we know, the Saints are going
- 1:42Speaker 1: to go spend in free agency, just like they did
- 1:45Speaker 1: a year ago. They went and added guys like Chase Young,
- 1:47Speaker 1: they went and added Willie Gay. I mean, they went
- 1:49Speaker 1: and added guys in veteran free agency that we're going
- 1:52Speaker 1: to help them win. And the Saints continue to say
- 1:53Speaker 1: that they're pretty committed to winning now. And there's two
- 1:57Speaker 1: pass rushers. Obviously, the Saints are one of the worst
- 2:00Speaker 1: league at getting into the passer last year and sacks
- 2:04Speaker 1: Chase Young individually had a very high pressure rate. But
- 2:07Speaker 1: the Saints as far as sacks, we at the bottom
- 2:08Speaker 1: of the league. So how do you how do you
- 2:12Speaker 1: fix that? Well, there's two players that on Thursday. Well,
- 2:18Speaker 1: one is formally available, the other is likely to be
- 2:21Speaker 1: available that no doubt are going to garner a lot
- 2:24Speaker 1: of attention here because of a lot of connection to
- 2:26Speaker 1: the city and to the organization. So first of all,
- 2:29Speaker 1: we'll talk about about Trey Hendrickson. Adam Scheffer reported that
- 2:33Speaker 1: the Bengals have granted Trey Hendrickson permission to seek a trade.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Hendrickson said, it's been a privilege to honor and represent Cincinnati,
- 2:42Speaker 1: loves the city of the organization, but appreciates the opportunity
- 2:46Speaker 1: to explorer his options. He wants he wants, he wants
- 2:49Speaker 1: a deal kind of like what Max Crosby just got
- 2:52Speaker 1: from the Raiders. Now, I don't blame it, man. You
- 2:53Speaker 1: get in the in the NFL, you get one chance
- 2:58Speaker 1: really for a for a break the bank contract like
- 3:01Speaker 1: that when you are the NFL sack leader and you're
- 3:05Speaker 1: a Candida finalist for Defensive Player of the Year. Opportunity
- 3:08Speaker 1: cash in. And the Bengals have not shown a willingness
- 3:10Speaker 1: to give Hendrickson that type of extension that he seeks,
- 3:14Speaker 1: so they're going to let him go explore options to
- 3:17Speaker 1: sign elsewhere. Let me be very clear, there's no reality
- 3:21Speaker 1: in which the New Orleans Saints should even consider resigning
- 3:24Speaker 1: Trey Hendrickson. I love the player. I wish they had
- 3:27Speaker 1: prioritized better when they drafted him, and he never would
- 3:30Speaker 1: have left. However, at this point, you cannot cannot justify
- 3:37Speaker 1: spending that amount of money if you're talking about a
- 3:40Speaker 1: nine figure contract for an edge rusher when you are
- 3:43Speaker 1: nowhere close to winning. You don't need one player. It's
- 3:47Speaker 1: not like saying the Philadelphia Eagles were Saquon Barkley away
- 3:51Speaker 1: from winning the super Bowl. You're nowhere close to that.
- 3:54Speaker 1: One guy isn't going to do this for you. You've
- 3:56Speaker 1: got to get many guys instead of the one. Trey
- 3:59Speaker 1: Hendrick Give me ten starters. That's what you need to be.
- 4:03Speaker 1: That's the mindset you need to be in right now.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So would you love Trey Hendrickson, Of course, you'd love
- 4:08Speaker 1: to have him back. I wish they didn't screw it
- 4:09Speaker 1: up in the first place with their lack of priorities
- 4:12Speaker 1: in fiscal irresponsibility. And he's been awesome as the NFL sackler.
- 4:17Speaker 1: He's great, great player. Would love to have him back.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Wish he never left, But there's no scenario that I
- 4:22Speaker 1: can contemplate we're giving Trey Hendrickson or anybody a nine
- 4:26Speaker 1: figure contract now makes sense short of Patrick Mahomes. If
- 4:30Speaker 1: the Chiefs wanted to get rid of Patrick Mahomes, I'd say,
- 4:32Speaker 1: all right, figure that thing out. You make it a
- 4:35Speaker 1: twenty year contract, spread money over years or whatever. However,
- 4:38Speaker 1: whatever you know, funny money, you know accounting. The Saints
- 4:41Speaker 1: want to do great, do that, but not not for
- 4:44Speaker 1: a defensive end, not for Trey Hendrickson. Now, Joey Bosa
- 4:48Speaker 1: is more interesting if you missed the news the Chargers
- 4:53Speaker 1: have released Joey Bosa. Bosa is a former first round pick.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He was the defensive Rookie of the Year in twenty sixteen,
- 5:03Speaker 1: when he had ten and a half sacks, seven TFLs
- 5:06Speaker 1: a seventeen TFLs. He made four Pro Bowls in his
- 5:09Speaker 1: first six seasons. As a matter of fact, he set
- 5:10Speaker 1: an NFL wrecord Joey Bosa did with nineteen sacks in
- 5:14Speaker 1: his first twenty games. As a result, the Chargers paid
- 5:19Speaker 1: Bosa accordingly. They gave him a five year, one hundred
- 5:22Speaker 1: and thirty five million dollar extension in twenty twenty, and
- 5:25Speaker 1: since signing that deal, he can't stay healthy. He has
- 5:32Speaker 1: played in just twenty eight games over the last three seasons.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It's massively disappointing for a guy that they sunk so
- 5:40Speaker 1: much resource into and had such a great start to
- 5:42Speaker 1: his career. Now, it's fair to mention that this year
- 5:46Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, Bosa did play in fourteen games. It's
- 5:52Speaker 1: the most amount of games played since twenty twenty one, which,
- 5:55Speaker 1: by the way, was his first season with Brandon stay.
- 6:00Speaker 1: That's the connective tissue here. So Brandon Staley, the Saints
- 6:04Speaker 1: new defensive coordinator, was the head coach of the Chargers
- 6:07Speaker 1: and coached Bosa for three seasons. Now, those seasons were
- 6:11Speaker 1: a little up and down because of the injuries. But
- 6:14Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty two, this was at right. This
- 6:19Speaker 1: was in January. So this January of twenty two, after
- 6:24Speaker 1: Staley's first season as the head coach in in LA
- 6:28Speaker 1: with the Chargers.
- 6:29Speaker 2: This is what Staley had to say then about Bosa.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Well, he's got he's got really good instincts. You know,
- 6:35Speaker 3: you've heard me talk about Justin Herbert's instincts, But Joe's
- 6:38Speaker 3: got really good instincts as a rusher, and he's got
- 6:40Speaker 3: outstanding feel for the person blocking him and the feel
- 6:44Speaker 3: of the depth of the quarterback, the rhythm and timing
- 6:46Speaker 3: of the play, and so I think, you know, he's
- 6:47Speaker 3: just he has really really good instincts. He can really
- 6:50Speaker 3: see and feel, you know, the set and the type
- 6:52Speaker 3: of you know, past that's happening. And I think that,
- 6:55Speaker 3: you know, the big time rushers that I've been a
- 6:57Speaker 3: part of, whether it's you know Ad, you know, Vaughn Khalil, Leonard,
- 7:01Speaker 3: you know Bradley, some of these guys that are high
- 7:02Speaker 3: level rushers, they just they have rare instincts. And you know,
- 7:05Speaker 3: I think that's really stood out to me about him.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Of course, Ad being Aaron Donald. Staley was the defensive
- 7:11Speaker 1: coordinator the Rams before he went to be the head
- 7:15Speaker 1: coach of the Chargers there in LA. And when you
- 7:18Speaker 1: look at the one season where Bosa was healthy under Staley,
- 7:21Speaker 1: played in sixteen games, double digit sacks at ten and
- 7:24Speaker 1: a half sacks, fifty one tackles, five TFLs now that
- 7:27Speaker 1: was three years ago. That was twenty twenty one. So
- 7:30Speaker 1: I guess if going into twenty fourty, you say would
- 7:32Speaker 1: be four years ago going into twenty five, but you
- 7:35Speaker 1: look after that played in just five games in twenty two,
- 7:39Speaker 1: nine games in twenty three. This year finally stayed healthy,
- 7:44Speaker 1: as we mentioned, play fourteen games, but that was without Staley.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So you know, I think you look and you say,
- 7:50Speaker 1: all right, if he's healthy, he can still be a
- 7:53Speaker 1: productive player at twenty nine years old.
- 7:55Speaker 2: But how much is it going to cost? Is Joey Bosa.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Lining up for a one year prove it deal like
- 8:04Speaker 1: Chase Young did? Maybe this is a guy that's made
- 8:07Speaker 1: a bunch of money, signed a nine figure deal and
- 8:10Speaker 1: now is approaching thirty or is he looking for the
- 8:13Speaker 1: second multi year deal of his since his rookie deal? Right,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you have your rookie deal. Then he signed his big
- 8:20Speaker 1: time one hundred and thirty five million dollars extension. Is
- 8:22Speaker 1: he looking for another maybe three year deal with some
- 8:24Speaker 1: guarantees wherever he goes. That's gonna be a giant question
- 8:28Speaker 1: for Joey Bosa. It's what does he want? Is he
- 8:30Speaker 1: gonna go to the highest bidder? Is he going to
- 8:32Speaker 1: go to San Francisco and play with his brother Nick,
- 8:34Speaker 1: which is a possibility. Is he going to go to
- 8:39Speaker 1: a contender and we saw in domak En Sue do
- 8:41Speaker 1: this late in his career, he would just hold out
- 8:43Speaker 1: and then go wherever he felt like he could win.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Went down to Tampa, played with Tom Brady, went at
- 8:48Speaker 1: the Philly played with the Eagles, Like just going to
- 8:50Speaker 1: go play.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Where he feels like he can get a ring and
- 8:53Speaker 2: he's ring chasing. God bless him. I don't blame him
- 8:55Speaker 2: at all.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Like what does Joey Bosa want to do at this
- 8:58Speaker 1: point in his career when you made a bunch of money,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you've had injury issues? Like do you want to go
- 9:02Speaker 1: play with your brother? Do you want to go ring chase?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Do you want to play where you're going to be
- 9:06Speaker 1: your most productive. Maybe that's with a guy like Staley
- 9:08Speaker 1: if they have a good relationship.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:10Speaker 1: JJ Watt was on the Pat McAfee show today, and
- 9:12Speaker 1: Wat's another one of those guys who was you know,
- 9:16Speaker 1: he's a Hall of famer undoubtedly, but hall of fame career.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Then boom injuries cut him down before he was probably
- 9:22Speaker 1: done playing. And you know, Bosa's got this question like
- 9:26Speaker 1: what really do you have left?
- 9:28Speaker 4: I believe he is still very effective as a situational
- 9:31Speaker 4: pass rusher. I think that he probably prefers some of
- 9:34Speaker 4: those less snaps as well, just as the body goes.
- 9:36Speaker 4: You want to still rush the past passer at a
- 9:39Speaker 4: high level, but not have to, you know, do some
- 9:41Speaker 4: of those brinder things down there in a six technique.
- 9:45Speaker 4: So still plenty left for him.
- 9:47Speaker 1: That's what I would say, is is Joey Bosa looking
- 9:51Speaker 1: for a one year deal as a situational pass rusher
- 9:56Speaker 1: and the opportunity maybe to go play with his former
- 9:58Speaker 1: head coach. If that's the case, then you, yeah, this
- 10:00Speaker 1: makes sense. If he's looking for a multi year deal,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you're not investing that type of money. Same thing we
- 10:05Speaker 1: thought about Hendrickson. You're not investing that type of money
- 10:08Speaker 1: into a twenty nine year old player. Hendrickson's younger to misunderstand,
- 10:11Speaker 1: but you're not investing a long term resource with your
- 10:15Speaker 1: cap situation into an older player that's had injury issues.
- 10:20Speaker 1: So I mean, if you've got Chase hung on a
- 10:22Speaker 1: one year proven deal, that would be what that'd be about.
- 10:25Speaker 1: The only thing you consider with someone like Joey Bosa. Listen,
- 10:28Speaker 1: if it's cheap, sure, if it's a multi year, no,
- 10:30Speaker 1: you've got to get younger. You gotta go draft like
- 10:32Speaker 1: this is going to be my mantra this entire offseason.
- 10:36Speaker 1: You have got to replace your old expensive players with
- 10:40Speaker 1: young inexpensive players. Like that is like tattoo it on
- 10:44Speaker 1: the forehead of every single Saints executive. Get rid of
- 10:48Speaker 1: your old expensive players, replace them with young, cheap players.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Like that is how It's what you did in twenty
- 10:53Speaker 1: seventeen when you nailed that draft, when you had Latimore
- 10:57Speaker 1: and Ramchick and Kamara and Marcus Williams like Trey Hendrickson.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You nailed that draft. You've got young and talented boom
- 11:04Speaker 1: in one weekend. You transformed your organization. But he's got
- 11:08Speaker 1: young and talented in one weekend. That's the challenge in
- 11:12Speaker 1: this year's draft. Look, the Saints need pass rushers. Maybe
- 11:16Speaker 1: in Brandon Staley's defense, we see Isaiah Foski wake up.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I mean, you could roll your eyes, couldn't. I also
- 11:24Speaker 1: look at what just happened with Zach Bond and go
- 11:27Speaker 1: in the right situation with someone who knew how to
- 11:29Speaker 1: use him. All of a sudden, that guy with a
- 11:31Speaker 1: ton of ability became one of the best defenders in
- 11:34Speaker 1: the NFL. I'm not saying that's gonna happen to Fosky,
- 11:36Speaker 1: but in two years. Fosky's got twenty five tackles. He's
- 11:39Speaker 1: basically been a special team or a healthy scratch. Could
- 11:42Speaker 1: you get something out of him? And Cam Jordan's old.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Jay Hung's a free agent. Carl Granderson underperformed with this
- 11:48Speaker 1: contract this past year. You need pass rushers, like you've
- 11:50Speaker 1: got to go address Pat Like you've got to go
- 11:53Speaker 1: get pass rushers. But you got to find young talented
- 11:57Speaker 1: ones or old cheap ones. If that's how you could
- 12:01Speaker 1: get Joey Boss. But the only way it would make
- 12:03Speaker 1: sense
