- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, NASA Chobie.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome back to another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks
- 0:14Speaker 1: getting ready for another primetime game. This time on Monday
- 0:18Speaker 1: Night Football. Welcoming in Caleb Williams in the Chicago Bears.
- 0:22Speaker 1: We're going to spend most of this podcast breaking down
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Bears bump. But there's breaking news this week. We've
- 0:27Speaker 1: got to start right there. The Seahawks make a huge splash.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Before the trade deadline, acquiring All-Pro guard Quinton Nelson from
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Indianapolis Colts. And my goodness, does his resume speak
- 0:37Speaker 1: for itself. The Colts' starting left guard began his rookie season,
- 0:41Speaker 1: was named a first-team All-Pro in each of the first
- 0:43Speaker 1: three seasons in the league. He's been named second-team All-Pro
- 0:46Speaker 1: three times, including each of the past two seasons. He's
- 0:49Speaker 1: earned a Pro Bowl nod eight straight years. Only two
- 0:51Speaker 1: men in NFL history have done that. He's also playing
- 0:55Speaker 1: really good football. He is not allowed to sack in
- 0:57Speaker 1: 275 pass blocking snaps, allowed just a 2.2 presser percentage,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and he's just the best of the best right now.
- 1:06Speaker 1: What does this mean for the Seahawks offensive line?
- 1:10Speaker 3: It means you got healthy with Anthony Bradford coming back,
- 1:13Speaker 3: had a good game on the ground. Sam didn't get
- 1:16Speaker 3: sacked at all, and you still got better. You went
- 1:19Speaker 3: and said, you know what, not good enough. We're going
- 1:20Speaker 3: to go ahead and get it. the best guard in
- 1:23Speaker 3: the game right now. And when I watch film and
- 1:25Speaker 3: it's impressive, you don't have to know much about offensive
- 1:27Speaker 3: line play just to watch him and say, that's what
- 1:30Speaker 3: it's supposed to look like.
- 1:31Speaker 4: It was, it was exciting.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I couldn't believe it went down and we were doing
- 1:34Speaker 3: an interview live and we found out.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Well, the fact that the Seahawks only gave up a
- 1:38Speaker 1: third and a fifth round pick with the Colts for
- 1:40Speaker 1: that is pretty insane because again, he's essentially crossed the league.
- 1:45Speaker 1: He's the best guard in the national football league. So
- 1:48Speaker 1: the fact that he's in here, And so what does
- 1:49Speaker 1: that mean for the Seahawks offensive line? Coach McDonald confirmed
- 1:52Speaker 1: that Quentin Nelson will play left guard. Gray's able to
- 1:54Speaker 1: move to the right side. And he also said it
- 1:57Speaker 1: was an unfortunate situation for Anthony Bradford.
- 1:59Speaker 2: He's been playing some really good football.
- 2:01Speaker 1: He obviously started every game on a or most of
- 2:03Speaker 1: the games last year on a team that won a
- 2:05Speaker 1: Super Bowl. He's played some really good football this year.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Coach said, you know, he's earned a significant starting role. Unfortunately,
- 2:10Speaker 1: there's no way to sugarcoat it. That's just how the
- 2:11Speaker 1: cookie crumbles. But obviously, Anthony Bradford is going to be
- 2:14Speaker 1: a great depth piece on this team. And then other
- 2:17Speaker 1: news up front, Charles Cross, he dinged up his ankle
- 2:20Speaker 1: at the end of the game. He's not going to
- 2:21Speaker 1: go to IR. Coach McDonald said that today, which is good.
- 2:24Speaker 1: That doesn't mean he's going to play this week, but
- 2:25Speaker 1: at least it means it's short-term, which is great. Rashichi
- 2:28Speaker 1: is not practicing today, but Drake Thomas is. So it's
- 2:31Speaker 1: going to be an interesting bump. This offensive line definitely
- 2:33Speaker 1: just got a shot in the arm, adding an all-pro
- 2:36Speaker 1: guard in Quinton Nelson. So very excited about that. But
- 2:39Speaker 1: we'll flip our attention back to the Chicago Bears. What's
- 2:41Speaker 1: on tap?
- 2:43Speaker 2: What's on tap?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Chicago Bears 5-2, second place in the NFC North with
- 2:48Speaker 1: wins over the Panthers, the Eagles, the Jets, the Falcons,
- 2:53Speaker 1: and the Patriots bump. What did you see from this team? Actually,
- 2:57Speaker 1: before I get into that, the Bears were down bad
- 3:01Speaker 1: for a long time.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Long time.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Now you draft Cale Williams that first year under Matt
- 3:06Speaker 1: Eberflus was not a good one.
- 3:07Speaker 2: It was a rough go for him then. You enter
- 3:09Speaker 2: Ben Johnson.
- 3:09Speaker 1: He's completely changed their fortune around their 11-6 last season,
- 3:12Speaker 1: gets a divisional playoffs, loses to the Rams. A lot
- 3:15Speaker 1: of high expectations coming into this season. And so far,
- 3:18Speaker 1: so good at a 5-2 record. What did you see
- 3:20Speaker 1: out of them last week against the Patriots?
- 3:22Speaker 4: All right, let's get it.
- 3:22Speaker 3: The Bears were in control for much of the day.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Went up 27-14 midway through the third quarter. Then the
- 3:28Speaker 3: Patriots cut the lead to 6 after a 30-yard touchdown
- 3:31Speaker 3: pass to Eli Reredone. That made the score 27-21. Both
- 3:35Speaker 3: teams traded field goals late in the fourth. The Patriots'
- 3:39Speaker 3: onside kick to 10 was recovered by Roman Dunzey to
- 3:41Speaker 3: seal the game.
- 3:43Speaker 4: But Caleb had himself a good day. Second week in
- 3:44Speaker 4: a row going for over 300.
- 3:46Speaker 3: 22 of 33, 308, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, a QB
- 3:49Speaker 3: rating of 116.7. And Swift had a day, 78 yards,
- 3:53Speaker 3: 22 carries, and one touchdown.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and then their other kid, Luther Burden, 130 yards
- 3:59Speaker 1: receiving and a touchdown. Drake May, so-so day, 320 yards,
- 4:03Speaker 1: two touchdowns. But the Bears coming into this game, a
- 4:06Speaker 1: lot of rest. A full 10 days. before they take
- 4:09Speaker 1: on the Seahawks. The Seahawks also did have an extra
- 4:11Speaker 1: day of rest there, so it should be interesting. They're
- 4:13Speaker 1: definitely going to be fresh and ready to go. But
- 4:15Speaker 1: when you look at this head-to-head comparison between both teams,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I'll start offensively. Seahawks are about middle of the pack,
- 4:21Speaker 1: 15th offense in the league, averaging 343 yards a game,
- 4:25Speaker 1: 17th with a run, averaging 113 yards a game, 16th passing,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and 13 when it comes to points per game. When
- 4:30Speaker 1: you look at the other side, the Bears are playing
- 4:32Speaker 1: incredibly well. They're third offense in the league in terms
- 4:35Speaker 1: of yards, averaging 390 yards per game. the number one
- 4:39Speaker 1: rushing attack in the National Football League, averaging 153 yards
- 4:42Speaker 1: per game, 13th passing attack, and 8th in points scored.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So Seahawks, once again, facing another very good offense.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Yeah, they are, man.
- 4:50Speaker 3: They'll run the heck out the ball. They're good with
- 4:52Speaker 3: the play action. There's a lot going on with this
- 4:53Speaker 3: Bears offense. Defensively, they're still pretty good, too. The Hawks
- 4:56Speaker 3: are first overall. The Bears are eighth. The Hawks are
- 4:59Speaker 3: sixth against the run. The Bears are third. The Hawks
- 5:03Speaker 3: are the best team against the pass. The Bears are 18th,
- 5:06Speaker 3: and the Hawks are fourth when it comes to points allowed. 17.9,
- 5:09Speaker 3: the Bears are ninth, letting the team score about 20.4
- 5:13Speaker 3: points per game. On paper, the Bears look like the
- 5:16Speaker 3: overall better team, and we'll give them the paper battle,
- 5:21Speaker 3: but let's line her up.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Well, I mean, record-wise in some of these numbers, but
- 5:26Speaker 1: if I look at pound for pound, guy for guy, yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm going to pick the Seahawks for sure. But they
- 5:30Speaker 1: did just make a huge trade. They bring in Jeffrey
- 5:33Speaker 1: Simmons from the Tennessee Titans. obviously an all-pro defensive lineman.
- 5:38Speaker 1: So a lot of moves being made. This was not
- 5:40Speaker 1: a quiet trade deadline. I feel like it wasn't like
- 5:44Speaker 1: in other sports, like the NBA or the MLB where
- 5:47Speaker 1: the trade deadline is a huge thing. I feel like
- 5:49Speaker 1: in the last couple of years, the NFL has really
- 5:51Speaker 1: changed things at the trade deadline.
- 5:52Speaker 2: A lot of GMs getting active. So it'll be very
- 5:54Speaker 2: interesting to see.
- 5:55Speaker 4: This ain't even the trade deadline. This is the trade.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Lead into the trade deadline.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Exactly. This is the warm-up line right here, man.
- 6:00Speaker 1: No, so it should be interesting to see. What we got,
- 6:02Speaker 1: we'll get back into those Bears. These teams don't play
- 6:05Speaker 1: each other that often, but there is a little history
- 6:07Speaker 1: between them.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Let's know the history.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Know your history.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Seahawks lead the all-time series 12-8, 12-6 in the regular season,
- 6:15Speaker 1: 0-2 in the postseason. Seahawks have won four of the
- 6:18Speaker 1: last six matches between these, including a credibly exciting, riveting
- 6:23Speaker 1: game bump last time they played at Soldier Field the
- 6:26Speaker 1: end of 2024 in a 6-3.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Win by the Seahawks. Man.
- 6:32Speaker 4: 6-3.
- 6:32Speaker 3: When's the last time you've seen something like.
- 6:34Speaker 4: That, a game like that?
- 6:36Speaker 2: It was brutal. It was definitely brutal. It was cold.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It was the day after Christmas, if you guys remember.
- 6:42Speaker 1: The Seahawks needed that win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately,
- 6:46Speaker 1: it'd be dashed after that game because Trey McBride got
- 6:48Speaker 1: hit in the face with the football, didn't catch it
- 6:50Speaker 1: on the goal line there, and then Witherspoon picked it off,
- 6:54Speaker 1: and the Rams won.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Rams go to the playoffs, blah, blah, blah. It's all good.
- 6:57Speaker 2: A year later, the Seahawks would win a Super Bowl.
- 6:59Speaker 1: But, yeah, that game was brutal. I'm not allowed to recap.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Three field goals. Seahawks opened that game. 11 play drives,
- 7:04Speaker 1: 71 yards. Included a 25-yard run from Kenny McIntosh, I remember,
- 7:08Speaker 1: if you remember that name.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Loved Kenny. Missed him.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I was really hoping that was going to be the
- 7:11Speaker 1: beginning of really getting to see what he could do. Unfortunately,
- 7:14Speaker 1: that didn't really come to fruition. Caleb Williams, he had
- 7:17Speaker 1: a really long streak of not throwing an interception. That
- 7:19Speaker 1: came to an end that game. It was recall and
- 7:20Speaker 1: picked him off kind of to seal the day. Charbonnet
- 7:23Speaker 1: had 15 carries for 57 yards. Spoon had six tackles,
- 7:26Speaker 1: a sack, and three TFLs. Leonard Williams had a great day.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Two sacks, three TFLs. So hoping to see a little
- 7:32Speaker 1: bit more of that on Monday night.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Definitely more offense. More offense. More O. Let's go.
- 7:36Speaker 2: But we'll flip our attention back to the division. What's
- 7:39Speaker 2: the word?
- 7:40Speaker 4: Where my soldiers at? Westside! Where my soldiers at? Westside!
- 7:44Speaker 4: And the Seahawks are the NFC West champs again. What's
- 7:47Speaker 4: the word in the West on Hawk Talk?
- 7:51Speaker 3: Niners still on top of the division at 6-1. Don't worry.
- 7:55Speaker 3: We gained a game. All right, we're 4-3 right behind them.
- 7:57Speaker 3: The Rams are 3-4, and the Cardinals are 2-5. A
- 8:02Speaker 3: sneaky dangerous 2-5. You got to respect the Cardinals. You
- 8:04Speaker 3: can't just sleep on them. But let's talk about the 49ers.
- 8:07Speaker 3: They went down to ATL and took their first loss
- 8:09Speaker 3: of the season, and it definitely did not look like
- 8:11Speaker 3: it was going to happen that way. The Niners jumped
- 8:13Speaker 3: out to a 14-3 lead. and it looked like they
- 8:16Speaker 3: were going to run away with it. But then the
- 8:18Speaker 3: Falcons answered with a 10-play 68-yard drive, ending with a
- 8:21Speaker 3: Nick Muse touchdown. The 49ers would fumble on the next drive,
- 8:24Speaker 3: and the Falcons would add a field goal to make
- 8:27Speaker 3: it 14-12. And the Falcons then started the third quarter
- 8:30Speaker 3: with another long drive, ending with a Kyle Pitts touchdown,
- 8:33Speaker 3: as the Falcons took their first lead at 19-14.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Yeah, and then it.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Became a turnover fest, right? Brock Purdy picked off on
- 8:39Speaker 1: the next drive. Falcons take advantage. Another long drive, 90 yards,
- 8:43Speaker 1: ending with a 21-yard touchdown pass Drake London from Michael Penix,
- 8:47Speaker 1: UW great. That made the score 26-14, 49ers. They would
- 8:50Speaker 1: pull to within six points, 26-20, but then they turned
- 8:53Speaker 1: the ball over again. George Kittle fumbled on that last
- 8:56Speaker 1: possession there. Four times, four takeaways in that game for
- 8:59Speaker 1: the Falcons. Falcons did not give the ball up one time.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Before that game, though, Bump, the 49ers only had six
- 9:04Speaker 1: turnovers on the season. Purdy, 27-40, 288, one touchdown, two picks. McCaffrey,
- 9:11Speaker 1: 100 total yards and a touchdown, kind of a typical
- 9:13Speaker 1: game for him. Kittle, eight receptions, 88 yards. I mentioned
- 9:16Speaker 1: his fumble. And UW, man, UW standout, Michael Penix.
- 9:19Speaker 2: He had a good day.
- 9:20Speaker 1: 25-34, 213 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions. 49ers, they have
- 9:26Speaker 1: a bye week this week, but we'll face the Raiders
- 9:28Speaker 1: on November 8th. So we'll see how their health changes,
- 9:32Speaker 1: what happens there. They made a trade. They also took
- 9:34Speaker 1: from the Colts, bringing in DeForest Buckner. So it'll be
- 9:37Speaker 1: interesting to see how he helps them.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Penix looks like an NFL quarterback. The timing's on point.
- 9:43Speaker 3: If he can just stay healthy, come on. I've never
- 9:45Speaker 3: rooted for a UW guy part of my whole life.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I love Michael over there. All right, let's look at
- 9:51Speaker 3: this next game. Rams at the Raiders. The Rams got
- 9:54Speaker 3: things figured out last week in Vegas, taking down the
- 9:56Speaker 3: Raiders 35-21. It's a big improvement. after scoring the 16
- 10:01Speaker 3: points against the Cardinals the week before. The Rams led
- 10:03Speaker 3: by a score of 28-3 before the Raiders started to
- 10:06Speaker 3: get things going a little bit in the fourth quarter.
- 10:08Speaker 4: They had Stafford.
- 10:09Speaker 3: He was 23-29, 195 in three touchdowns, one interception. Kyron
- 10:13Speaker 3: Williams ran for 99 yards in one touchdown, and Puka
- 10:15Speaker 3: had 68 yards in one touchdown.
- 10:20Speaker 2: They needed that.
- 10:21Speaker 4: They did.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I mean, it's.
- 10:23Speaker 1: A verdict still out on the Rams and who they're
- 10:27Speaker 1: going to be.
- 10:28Speaker 2: But they need to get back in the win column.
- 10:29Speaker 2: They did that.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Tough sudden for our guy, Clint Kubiak, though. They started
- 10:33Speaker 1: off so well, 3-0. They've lost now four in a row.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So we're interesting to see. Now people are wondering if
- 10:39Speaker 1: Mendoza should play or not. I think it's a move
- 10:41Speaker 1: to keep Kirk Cousins playing.
- 10:42Speaker 4: I think it's a little premature.
- 10:44Speaker 1: But we'll see. The Seahawks do have the Raiders in
- 10:46Speaker 1: a couple weeks. But the Rams, they got back in
- 10:48Speaker 1: the win calling. They will host the Chargers next Sunday.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Great time for those Chargers to find that first win.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I know. Just figure it out. Let's figure it out, Chargers.
- 10:56Speaker 2: They're due, right?
- 10:57Speaker 4: Got talent.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Oh, they're due for a win. They've lost six in
- 10:59Speaker 2: a row.
- 10:59Speaker 4: They're due for one. They're due.
- 11:00Speaker 3: That's like when I bogey seven holes in a row.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I'm due for a par. That's what the Rams feel like.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Come on. I'm not the Rams. Sometimes I'm due for
- 11:08Speaker 4: a bogey.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Sometimes you take that bogey like, let's get off this
- 11:13Speaker 3: double-triple train, man.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Come on.
- 11:15Speaker 3: All right, we got the Broncos at the Cardinals. The Cardinals,
- 11:18Speaker 3: they just can't see the win away from SoFi Stadium.
- 11:20Speaker 3: They got two wins at SoFi. They lost again at
- 11:23Speaker 3: home to the Broncos, 30-16. The game was tied at
- 11:25Speaker 3: six with 4.30 left in the second quarter where the
- 11:29Speaker 3: Broncos will score the next two touchdowns. Going up 14 points,
- 11:32Speaker 3: it will remain in control for the rest of the game.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Jacoby Brissett was 27-48, 272-1 touchdown. McBride, 111 yards on
- 11:40Speaker 3: 10 receptions and a touchdown. Bo Nix, he played all right, man. 15-29,
- 11:44Speaker 3: 20-22 yards and one touchdown. Had a long touchdown run.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Also let the team in rushing.
- 11:50Speaker 4: There you go.
- 11:50Speaker 3: With 73 yards, 62 of those came on that run
- 11:53Speaker 3: I was talking about that led to a touchdown. Bo Nix,
- 11:56Speaker 3: he had completions of 52-47, 27-20, getting away from the
- 12:01Speaker 3: check down Charlie that Fitzpatrick was so angry about.
- 12:04Speaker 4: All right.
- 12:05Speaker 3: And then the Cardinals, man, they fall to 2-5, and
- 12:08Speaker 3: they will travel to Dallas next week to take on
- 12:10Speaker 3: the Cowboys.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Well, you spoke of Knicks.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I mean, having completion of 52, 47, 27, and 20,
- 12:16Speaker 1: saying a lot because against Seahawks, his longest completion was
- 12:18Speaker 1: 16 yards. And his longest pass in the air, I think,
- 12:20Speaker 1: was like seven. So, we'll see what Denver has. Hopefully,
- 12:23Speaker 1: they can actually beat another team in the NFC West.
- 12:26Speaker 1: They didn't help us out enough against the 49ers. But anyway,
- 12:29Speaker 1: so that's what it is in the NFC West. So,
- 12:31Speaker 1: football attention. Back to the Chicago Bears.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Man up. Hey, who you got?
- 12:37Speaker 4: Who you got?
- 12:38Speaker 2: You know what time it is.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Man up.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Man up, brother.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Man up. Man up on Hawk Talk.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Starting the place we always do, looking at quarterbacks.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Caleb Williams.
- 12:46Speaker 1: He's now his third season quarterback for the Bears. Number
- 12:49Speaker 1: one overall pick in the 2024 season. I mentioned earlier,
- 12:52Speaker 1: it was a dumpster fire his first year. Head coach
- 12:55Speaker 1: Matt Eberflus was the head coach. And then you had
- 12:57Speaker 1: Shane Waldron, former Seahawks offensive coordinator, coordinating for the Bears.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Both were fired. Waldron was let go after just nine games.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Bears were finished at year five and 12. But despite
- 13:07Speaker 1: that turmoil, Williams actually played pretty well.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Threw for over 3,000 yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions.
- 13:14Speaker 1: But Bump, he was sacked 68 times. That's a lot.
- 13:19Speaker 1: For a loss of 466 yards. That was the most, shockingly,
- 13:22Speaker 1: in the NFL that year. But after those last 14 weeks,
- 13:26Speaker 1: he put up really good numbers. Threw for almost 3,000 yards,
- 13:28Speaker 1: 18 touchdowns, two interceptions. Great passer rating. He went 353
- 13:33Speaker 1: passes without an interception until that ended. Consequently, against Seahawks,
- 13:37Speaker 1: Reek Willem picked that off. But then you bring in
- 13:39Speaker 1: Ben Johnson, right? He comes in 2025, completely changes the culture.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Thanks for Caleb Williams. Caleb now throws for almost 4,000 yards,
- 13:46Speaker 1: 27 touchdowns, just seven interceptions, sacked just 24 times. So
- 13:50Speaker 1: a 44 sack difference in just two years. That was
- 13:55Speaker 1: good enough to take the Bears to the divisional playoffs.
- 13:58Speaker 1: 2026 hasn't been all great, right?
- 14:01Speaker 2: He has that injury.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Everybody's killing him because of the hamstring, which, listen, wasn't
- 14:06Speaker 1: the greatest look, but back off.
- 14:07Speaker 4: You pull your hammy.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Most of the people that it happened to, you'd be
- 14:10Speaker 1: calling in for work. You'd be out for six weeks, dog.
- 14:13Speaker 4: You'd be crying. Asking for a worker's comp. Yeah, you'd
- 14:14Speaker 4: be crying.
- 14:15Speaker 2: So chill.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I've pulled a hammy before. It ain't nice.
- 14:18Speaker 1: We just talked about the dude got sacked 68 times
- 14:20Speaker 1: or whatever the year before.
- 14:21Speaker 2: He's tough enough to play this game. It is what
- 14:23Speaker 2: it is.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Look, was I talking a little crap when I first
- 14:26Speaker 4: saw it? Yes.
- 14:27Speaker 3: But then when I realized what the injury was in
- 14:29Speaker 3: the whole situation, I backed up and I was like,
- 14:31Speaker 3: all right, my man just wants to be out there
- 14:33Speaker 3: with his team.
- 14:33Speaker 2: No, he thought he was done for the year, man.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yeah. When you first get injured, you don't really know.
- 14:38Speaker 3: You're like, this could be, I'm done. I remember I
- 14:41Speaker 3: sprayed my MCL in college. I called my mom crying. Oh,
- 14:43Speaker 3: my knee is blown up.
- 14:44Speaker 4: I'm done. I'm crying. A week later, I'm in the game.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Listen, it can happen to the best of us. And honestly,
- 14:50Speaker 1: so Caleb comes back. He throws for back-to-back 300-yard games.
- 14:54Speaker 1: He ranks number two in the NFL in completion percentage
- 14:56Speaker 1: among qualified quarterbacks, 71%. He also typically doesn't give the
- 15:00Speaker 1: ball away. So on the year, 88 for 124,020 yards,
- 15:04Speaker 1: five touchdowns, one interception. He's going to have his hands
- 15:07Speaker 1: full because we know how good the Seahawks defense is,
- 15:09Speaker 1: number one in the NFL, fourth in scoring defense, and
- 15:12Speaker 1: one against the pass. So something's got to give there, bro.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yeah, man, something's got to give, and we ain't giving.
- 15:17Speaker 3: We ain't doing it.
- 15:19Speaker 2: We're taking it.
- 15:20Speaker 4: We're taking it. Let's go.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Hey, talk about Sam Darnold against his Bears defense. It
- 15:24Speaker 3: was good to see my man bounce back. It wasn't
- 15:27Speaker 3: like a big performance, but it was a, this is
- 15:30Speaker 3: the type of performance we need. 20 and 28 for 257,
- 15:34Speaker 3: one touchdown, dead throw and interception. Defense had his back,
- 15:37Speaker 3: no worries. He'll be rating up 96.9. He also had
- 15:40Speaker 3: two carries for 70 yards and two first downs. And
- 15:43Speaker 3: he did a good job getting the ball out quick.
- 15:45Speaker 3: According to NextGenStats, Sam Darnold posted a 2.45 second average
- 15:49Speaker 3: time to throw him. his third quickest inning game in
- 15:52Speaker 3: his career while facing pressure on just 26.7% of dropbacks,
- 15:56Speaker 3: his lowest rate in a game this season. Ronald was
- 15:59Speaker 3: nearly perfect when it came to getting the ball out
- 16:01Speaker 3: quickly under 2.5 seconds, completing 13 of 14 such attempts
- 16:06Speaker 3: for 149 yards and a touchdown when holding the ball
- 16:10Speaker 3: more than 2.5 seconds. He completed 7 of 13 for
- 16:13Speaker 3: 108 yards with an interception. There's a correlation there. Clean pocket,
- 16:18Speaker 3: let him get the ball out quickly. to jsn most
- 16:20Speaker 3: of the time yep and you're gonna be just fine.
- 16:22Speaker 1: No absolutely we know what sam can do and it
- 16:24Speaker 1: was good to see him kind of start there i'm
- 16:26Speaker 1: hoping there's no interception this week so we can just
- 16:28Speaker 1: put that to bed but the guy i saw on
- 16:31Speaker 1: last sunday night is a guy i'll take every single
- 16:34Speaker 1: time out there because sam sam is balling and doing
- 16:35Speaker 1: some good things this bears defense now he's got he's
- 16:38Speaker 1: got to contend with simmons coming in there eighth ranked
- 16:40Speaker 1: defense overall 18th against the pass hopefully there's an area
- 16:44Speaker 1: there where the seahawks can take advantage.
- 16:47Speaker 3: All right, next matchup, DeAndre Swift versus the Seahawks front seven.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Swift is now in his seventh NFL season.
- 16:53Speaker 3: The former second-round pick spent his first three seasons with
- 16:56Speaker 3: the Lions, one season in Philly, and now the last
- 16:59Speaker 3: three with the Bears. In his lone season with Eagles,
- 17:02Speaker 3: he rushed for 1,049 yards and five touchdowns.
- 17:04Speaker 4: That was good enough to get him his first and
- 17:06Speaker 4: only Pro Bowl.
- 17:08Speaker 3: In his first season with the Bears, he rushed for
- 17:10Speaker 3: 959 and six touchdowns. Last season, he went over 1,000
- 17:13Speaker 3: yards for the second time in his career, 1,087. and
- 17:16Speaker 3: had nine career touchdowns. It's crazy when someone's last name
- 17:20Speaker 3: really describes the way they run. He can run you over,
- 17:23Speaker 3: but he's swift with it too. I mean, it's a
- 17:26Speaker 3: perfect last name for this running back.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's going to kill you through the air
- 17:29Speaker 2: as well.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I mean, if you're looking at his numbers since 2020,
- 17:31Speaker 1: since entering the league, he has the fourth most targets,
- 17:34Speaker 1: fourth most receptions, fourth most receiving yards, and fifth most
- 17:37Speaker 1: receiving first downs out of every NFL running back.
- 17:39Speaker 2: They're the number one rushing attack in the NFL. I
- 17:41Speaker 2: was kind of surprised.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I knew they were up there, but when they're number
- 17:43Speaker 1: one averaging 150 yards per game, That's a big matchup. Obviously,
- 17:47Speaker 1: we know how good the Seahawks are stopping the run.
- 17:49Speaker 1: They're six against the running yards, only on 89 per game.
- 17:52Speaker 1: But they have not allowed 100 yard rusher for now.
- 17:55Speaker 1: 33 consecutive games, 36 including the playoffs, longest streak in
- 17:59Speaker 1: the NFL. I don't know when it's going to end
- 18:01Speaker 1: because when you look at those, what we saw happen
- 18:04Speaker 1: against Ken Walker last week, and you think of a
- 18:06Speaker 1: Byron Murphy who we talked to.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Today on the huddle, a Leonard Williams, a Jaron Reed.
- 18:10Speaker 1: You look at those guys, I go, If K-9 can't
- 18:15Speaker 1: do it, if Christian McCaffrey can't do it, I don't
- 18:17Speaker 1: know who's doing it. It's going to take a missed
- 18:21Speaker 1: assignment on the O-line, excuse me, the D-line, a linebacker
- 18:24Speaker 1: to fall, and a safety to be looking the wrong direction.
- 18:27Speaker 3: It's going to take a lot, I think, at this point.
- 18:29Speaker 3: So I doubted them last week. I thought maybe K-9
- 18:32Speaker 3: would get them. Out of respect for K-9, I thought
- 18:34Speaker 3: we would still win that game. But you know what?
- 18:36Speaker 3: My apologies. Seahawks defense.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Yeah, you're bad. Let's talk about. Seahawks running backs versus
- 18:42Speaker 4: the Bears defense.
- 18:43Speaker 3: The Seahawks running game took a nice bump last week
- 18:46Speaker 3: with a great game from Emmanuel Wilson. He had 24
- 18:48Speaker 3: carries for 100 yards and one touchdown. That was the
- 18:51Speaker 3: first touchdown run of 10-plus yards by a Seahawks running
- 18:54Speaker 3: back this season. Rasheed Shaheed had a 28-yarder. That was
- 18:57Speaker 3: a receiver. Let's focus on the running backs. Wilson also
- 19:01Speaker 3: has improved.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Proven, excuse me.
- 19:04Speaker 3: He's a great closer, man. If you want to close
- 19:06Speaker 3: the game out, you hand it to Wilson. He will
- 19:08Speaker 3: get north-south, run behind his pads. And he will finish
- 19:11Speaker 3: a game for you.
- 19:12Speaker 2: But three games, he's done it. Arizona, Chargers, Chiefs.
- 19:16Speaker 1: In those games, 183 yards in the second half. So
- 19:19Speaker 1: he definitely can do it. Now we talk about the
- 19:21Speaker 1: running back, Zach Charbonnet, practicing. Jadarian Price, back to practice.
- 19:25Speaker 1: And Coach McDonald, even when it's far to say, did
- 19:27Speaker 1: not completely rule Price out of this game.
- 19:29Speaker 4: You're teasing us. Listen. You're teasing us.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But the fact that he even said that gives me
- 19:35Speaker 1: at least hope that he's closer than farther away, right?
- 19:38Speaker 1: And then I'm really hoping we see Charbonnet. We will
- 19:40Speaker 1: see the fact he's out there practicing. So this run
- 19:42Speaker 1: game could definitely get a huge shot in the arm.
- 19:44Speaker 1: They're going to need it because Chicago came into this
- 19:46Speaker 1: game third-ranked rush defense.
- 19:48Speaker 2: We mentioned who they just got. so we'll see how
- 19:50Speaker 2: that factors in.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Now flipping over to the receivers there for Chicago, Luther Bird,
- 19:55Speaker 1: Noroma Dunzey, Colston Loveland. They spread the ball around. No
- 19:59Speaker 1: one is going to kill you with insane numbers individually.
- 20:02Speaker 1: It's not like looking at the Seahawks where JSN is
- 20:04Speaker 1: up here and.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Everyone else is way down below.
- 20:06Speaker 1: You look at Burton, who had a good rookie campaign,
- 20:08Speaker 1: 47 receptions, 652 yards, two touchdowns.
- 20:11Speaker 2: This year, he's going to blow his numbers out of
- 20:13Speaker 2: the water.
- 20:13Speaker 1: He already has 491 yards, two touchdowns on 35 receptions.
- 20:17Speaker 1: He's on pace to get over 1,000 yards. Then you
- 20:20Speaker 1: have Roman Dunzay. Everyone in this Pacific Northwest knows Roman
- 20:23Speaker 1: Dunzay for what he did at UW. First-team All-Pac 12,
- 20:27Speaker 1: Blitnikoff finalist, All-American finalist, Drafted in the top 10.
- 20:31Speaker 2: I've expected to.
- 20:32Speaker 1: See more production than we've seen from him, right? Rookie year,
- 20:34Speaker 1: 54 receptions, 734 yards, three touchdowns. Last year, he only
- 20:38Speaker 1: played 12 games, so his numbers dipped. This year, through
- 20:41Speaker 1: seven games, 24 receptions on 38 targets, 381 yards, and
- 20:46Speaker 1: no touchdowns. So, I'm just... We know how good he is.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It's just surprising to me that the numbers aren't higher.
- 20:52Speaker 4: He's lost some injuries, too, though.
- 20:54Speaker 3: True.
- 20:54Speaker 4: He's missed a few games.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And maybe it's just because, like I said, they spread
- 20:56Speaker 1: the love out. And then you also– Colson Loveland, he's
- 20:58Speaker 1: a top pick for Michigan. He was their leading receiver
- 21:00Speaker 1: last year with 713 yards, six touchdowns. So far this year,
- 21:04Speaker 1: 26 receptions, 244, two touchdowns. So it'll be interesting to see.
- 21:07Speaker 1: They have weapons all over the field that can hurt you.
- 21:09Speaker 1: It's not just going to be one guy kind of
- 21:11Speaker 1: by committee. The Seahawks, though, as we know, number one
- 21:13Speaker 1: passing defense in the NFL. So I think the Seahawks
- 21:15Speaker 1: will be ready for those guys.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Yeah, they're pretty balanced when it comes to– the distribution
- 21:19Speaker 3: of the rock even with the run games in montague
- 21:21Speaker 3: the backup running back he's getting some love too there's
- 21:24Speaker 3: they don't have anyone with numbers that just pop out
- 21:26Speaker 3: right you look at our stat sheet jsn everybody else
- 21:29Speaker 3: they don't have that they share the love let's lock
- 21:31Speaker 3: them all down all right our receivers jsn cooper cup
- 21:35Speaker 3: and rashid shaheed versus the chief secondary jsn doing what
- 21:38Speaker 3: he does through seven weeks here's where he ranks he's
- 21:41Speaker 3: number one when it comes to receiving yards number one
- 21:43Speaker 3: and receiving touchdowns he has the longest reception in the
- 21:46Speaker 3: league He has the most receiving yards per game, most
- 21:49Speaker 3: yards per touch, and he's second when it comes to
- 21:51Speaker 3: yards from scrimmage and receptions.
- 21:53Speaker 4: He's second with 58. This is just what he does.
- 21:56Speaker 3: He became the sixth player in NFL history to record
- 21:58Speaker 3: 100 receiving yards in six of his team's first seven
- 22:01Speaker 3: games of a season and fourth player in NFL history
- 22:03Speaker 3: with at least 55 receptions, 800 yards in his team's
- 22:07Speaker 3: first seven games of the season.
- 22:10Speaker 1: If you want to know how good JSN is doing,
- 22:11Speaker 1: if you look at our media guide and our weekly
- 22:13Speaker 1: game release.
- 22:14Speaker 4: He got like four pages. No, like four pages. It
- 22:17Speaker 4: ain't a full page.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Well, there's one page that's kind of like the blurb,
- 22:20Speaker 1: but when you actually get to JSN, yeah, he's insane.
- 22:24Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 22:24Speaker 2: We know what he can do.
- 22:25Speaker 1: He continues to do it every single week. So at
- 22:26Speaker 1: this point, we expect it. Again, if he continues to
- 22:30Speaker 1: do this, he's going to flirt with Calvin Johnson's record.
- 22:32Speaker 1: But regardless, he's unstoppable. Cooper Cup, Rasheed Shaheed, hoping to
- 22:36Speaker 1: see them get in the action a little bit more.
- 22:38Speaker 1: But honestly... If it's working with Jacks, we can keep
- 22:41Speaker 1: riding that thing until the end.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Of the season. Seahawks-Bears Monday Night Football.
- 22:45Speaker 1: We're going to tell you how they get that done
- 22:47Speaker 1: with Path to Victory.
- 22:49Speaker 2: At the 45, waits for the snap.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Michael Dixon puts it down. That kick is away.
- 22:54Speaker 2: And that kick is good! The Seahawks win!
- 22:58Speaker 4: It's good!
- 22:59Speaker 3: It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Defense, man. If they don't score a bump, they can't win.
- 23:06Speaker 1: But in all seriousness, that's what it feels like when
- 23:07Speaker 1: you have this Seahawks defense. They will keep you in
- 23:10Speaker 1: every game no matter how the offense plays. They're the
- 23:13Speaker 1: top defense in the NFL for a reason. It's going
- 23:15Speaker 1: to be a nice chess match. Ben Johnson, Mike McDonald,
- 23:18Speaker 1: who's going to win? For me, get after Caleb Williams.
- 23:22Speaker 1: You do that, it's going to make his day a
- 23:23Speaker 1: long time. He's been sacked seven times the last two weeks.
- 23:26Speaker 1: We need that to continue. Two of the best going
- 23:28Speaker 1: at it. Two of the brightest young minds. And you
- 23:32Speaker 1: have to stop the run.
- 23:33Speaker 3: You did a great job last week with the best
- 23:36Speaker 3: running back in the league to some, and you balled
- 23:39Speaker 3: them up. Can you do it again? Because they got
- 23:41Speaker 3: Swift back there. You got Monagay. They're explosive. They run
- 23:44Speaker 3: the play action. Offensively, just take care of the ball,
- 23:47Speaker 3: all right? When you win the turnover battle, the Hawks
- 23:50Speaker 3: are going to win this ball game.
- 23:52Speaker 4: So please do that.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a done deal. You win the game, right? Offensively, man,
- 23:56Speaker 2: take care of the football. Same thing.
- 23:58Speaker 1: As long as you don't turn the ball over multiple times,
- 24:01Speaker 1: I don't want them to turn over at all, but
- 24:03Speaker 1: one's okay. Three is when we lose games, right? Take
- 24:07Speaker 1: care of the football. Protect Sam Darnold. They're also getting
- 24:09Speaker 1: swept back, I believe, as well. It came back from
- 24:11Speaker 1: a two-game suspension. So their defensive line is getting reinforcements, right?
- 24:15Speaker 1: So you're going to need to protect Sam Darnold. But
- 24:17Speaker 1: we also made an addition on the offensive line.
- 24:21Speaker 2: The best guard in the game out there. I think.
- 24:24Speaker 1: We'll be all right there. So protect Sam. And then
- 24:27Speaker 1: keep getting the ball to the best receiver in the game.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I don't know if anyone can slow him down. we're
- 24:32Speaker 1: going to talk about this on the pregame show on Sunday.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Jason is such a rare specimen with how he does things.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I don't know if there's a playbook to do it
- 24:41Speaker 1: because if you over triple commit at some point, God's
- 24:45Speaker 1: going to be running down the field and you're going
- 24:47Speaker 1: to run him out of it. Whatever it is, run
- 24:48Speaker 1: the rock bump. It's going to be a huge one.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Monday night football. Get your popcorn ready to see us
- 24:54Speaker 1: have a big one. They get this done. Another NFC
- 24:56Speaker 1: win puts them at five and three in great shape.
- 24:59Speaker 4: Niners guy. You know?
- 25:00Speaker 2: Nobody.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Oh, they buy? All right, let's get one. We'll pick
- 25:03Speaker 4: up a half game. You know, it's the same thing.
- 25:05Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 25:05Speaker 1: We're getting you ready for Seahawks football. Take it on
- 25:08Speaker 1: the Bears, Monday Night Football. He's Michael Bumpus. I'm Nassar Chobey.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Hope we'll be talking to you next week about a
- 25:13Speaker 1: Seahawks win. This has been Hawk Talk.
