Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome on in.
- 0:06Speaker 2: This is Off the Edge with Cam Jordan. I'm super excited.
- 0:09Speaker 2: The Saints are coming off of a bye week. We've
- 0:11Speaker 2: got things to do here we are. We're laser and
- 0:13Speaker 2: locked in on the team coming up on Sunday. And
- 0:17Speaker 2: this Sunday is my favorite week because it's the week
- 0:20Speaker 2: I get to hate the most. It's Atlanta versus the Saints.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It's the failed Cons and the Saints.
- 0:27Speaker 1: This is the this is the rivalry week.
- 0:29Speaker 2: This is the week that you don't know what you're
- 0:31Speaker 2: getting into when you get down to the South. But oh,
- 0:34Speaker 2: it takes all of but one game to realize that
- 0:36Speaker 2: there's a animosity there. You know, the great back and
- 0:40Speaker 2: forth from Michael Turners to the Julio Jones to you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: the man who was willing and dealing for so many years,
- 0:47Speaker 2: who I get to present to you as my guest
- 0:50Speaker 2: this week, who understands rivalry. This is Matt Ryan. Then
- 0:53Speaker 2: we're talking about an all pro, a four time pro bowler,
- 0:56Speaker 2: a guy who was a league MVP and now he
- 0:59Speaker 2: says nfl an Liss for CBS Sports where I sort
- 1:01Speaker 2: of got to sit in his seat on my bye week.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You know why he was out there in Denver, you know,
- 1:06Speaker 2: calling the game whatever that is. I was out there
- 1:09Speaker 2: in New York sitting in his seat. I said it
- 1:10Speaker 2: was a little comfy. I said, well, I can't let
- 1:12Speaker 2: it get too coffee. I got to get back to work.
- 1:14Speaker 2: So we had practice yesterday. Here we are, Matt. I
- 1:16Speaker 2: appreciate you tapping in. It's time for this week's Drive
- 1:18Speaker 2: for Success Conversation presented by Toyota. Let's go places. It's
- 1:24Speaker 2: such a great weekend for me and you to talk.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah, this is you and I were talking about it
- 1:30Speaker 3: a little bit over the weekend. I think it's one
- 1:32Speaker 3: of the most underrated rivalries in the NFL, and you
- 1:36Speaker 3: kind of alluded to it at the beginning. I didn't
- 1:39Speaker 3: know anything about it until I got to Atlanta, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 3: and we played New Orleans as a rookie, and Mike Smith,
- 1:47Speaker 3: our head coach, did like, hey, this week is different
- 1:51Speaker 3: and had like former Falcons come on and talk about
- 1:53Speaker 3: the rivalry and all of this. And I was sitting
- 1:55Speaker 3: there as a rookie being like, oh, I had no idea,
- 1:57Speaker 3: and then got to play in that game, and it
- 2:00Speaker 3: does feel different. Post cities are so into it, but
- 2:04Speaker 3: it is. I think it's one of the most underrated
- 2:06Speaker 3: rivalries in the league. And you and I were part
- 2:09Speaker 3: of it for a long time. You're still going, You're
- 2:10Speaker 3: still doing your thing, which is incredible, and I'm glad
- 2:13Speaker 3: you got out of my seat so you can go
- 2:14Speaker 3: back and get some more sacks. Hopefully not that many
- 2:18Speaker 3: this weekend, but get some more sacks and keep getting
- 2:20Speaker 3: after it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: As long as I keep adding to this total. I'm
- 2:23Speaker 2: just trying to close the distance. They say I'm top twenty.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I'm like, what is it. I gotta get to this
- 2:27Speaker 2: top fifteen whatever. That looks like. We'll take a one
- 2:30Speaker 2: week at a time. This week, you know it's different,
- 2:33Speaker 2: Is there is there a rivalry between like Boston College?
- 2:36Speaker 2: Who's the Boston College rivalry? Like now we got Stanford.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Like I've always had one laser focus. I hate this
- 2:43Speaker 2: team you have?
- 2:44Speaker 3: Who so ours? Ours at BC was Syracuse in the
- 2:49Speaker 3: Old Big East. You got to remember, like when I
- 2:51Speaker 3: went to Boston College. We were in the Old Big
- 2:53Speaker 3: East when I started there, and so it was like
- 2:55Speaker 3: Virginia Tech, Miami, pitt West, Virginia, Syracuse, Boston College Wreckers.
- 3:00Speaker 3: That was sort of the setup in football and so
- 3:03Speaker 3: the big one for us up there was Syracuse and
- 3:06Speaker 3: then we left and went to the a c C.
- 3:08Speaker 3: And it took a little bit of time for Syracuse
- 3:10Speaker 3: to then come back into the a c C. So
- 3:12Speaker 3: that's that's sort of the rivalry that's big. But you know,
- 3:15Speaker 3: it's it's not comparable. It's it's not it's not the
- 3:19Speaker 3: big game. It's not cal Stanford, you know, it's it's
- 3:22Speaker 3: not that.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a brother in law that went to
- 3:24Speaker 1: b C.
- 3:25Speaker 2: You know, casim At a Bali defensive end, was a
- 3:27Speaker 2: teammate of mine for a couple of years. Married player, Yeah,
- 3:30Speaker 2: good player, edge you know. Now he's in Germany killing
- 3:34Speaker 2: it being an analyst. Well, you know he's he's the
- 3:36Speaker 2: U over there.
- 3:36Speaker 3: That's one of the things BC historically did pretty well
- 3:39Speaker 3: was defensive line and o line. Uh you know, when
- 3:42Speaker 3: you look across the league, when you do those game plans,
- 3:44Speaker 3: you do see you tend to see a lot of
- 3:46Speaker 3: guys from Boston College playing on the defensive line, playing
- 3:50Speaker 3: on the offensive line. You know, maybe not to skill positions,
- 3:53Speaker 3: but that's all right. We were okay there, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 3: solid but uh certainly had a bunch of O and
- 3:59Speaker 3: D Linemen.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Not man. You know, the church work is where the
- 4:02Speaker 2: dreams work. And then of course you come up as
- 4:05Speaker 2: the premier at Boston College quarterback for Atlanta falcause for
- 4:08Speaker 2: so long. In fact, let me preface this, how is
- 4:12Speaker 2: it being transitioning from football to CBS analysts, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 2: color commentary? What does that switch up?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Like?
- 4:21Speaker 2: Homework change up a little bit, oh for sure, for sure,
- 4:24Speaker 2: defenses and knowing the entire team.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's interesting. So my first year out I
- 4:29Speaker 3: called games for CBS, and you know, I watched a
- 4:34Speaker 3: ton of film as a player, but it was always
- 4:35Speaker 3: just one defense. And then you start watching film to
- 4:39Speaker 3: get prepared to call a game, and you're like, oh
- 4:41Speaker 3: my god, I have so much work to do. I've
- 4:43Speaker 3: got two defenses. I've got to watch. I've got to
- 4:45Speaker 3: watch these offenses because I don't know what's going on.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I don't know what they're doing, and trying to figure
- 4:49Speaker 3: out what they're doing. And then, for the first time
- 4:52Speaker 3: in my life, I watched special teams because I never
- 4:54Speaker 3: watched a snap of special teams.
- 4:56Speaker 1: What you know in anywhere, Yeah, I would.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I would sit in one special teams meeting a year
- 5:03Speaker 3: as a quarterback, which was like the first of training
- 5:06Speaker 3: camp and they would you know, go through like the
- 5:08Speaker 3: whole team sitting in there. And that was the last
- 5:10Speaker 3: time I was in a teams meeting the entire season,
- 5:12Speaker 3: so like I had to figure out what was going
- 5:14Speaker 3: on on special teams. So that first year calling games
- 5:18Speaker 3: was was it was a lot of film, a ton
- 5:21Speaker 3: of film of getting prep for those teams that we
- 5:24Speaker 3: were calling. But then I switched into the studio last
- 5:28Speaker 3: year and it was my first year doing the pregame
- 5:31Speaker 3: show on the NFL Today on CBS, and then it
- 5:34Speaker 3: was a massive switch because you know, as a player,
- 5:37Speaker 3: for so long, you're just focused on your own team
- 5:39Speaker 3: and the matchup that you have that week, and you
- 5:41Speaker 3: might see like highlights from around the league and just
- 5:44Speaker 3: pick up on a few things here and there, but
- 5:45Speaker 3: you're not you don't know, like the storylines of all
- 5:48Speaker 3: all the way locked in. Yeah you're not, You're not.
- 5:51Speaker 3: You're just you just kind of see it from a
- 5:53Speaker 3: surface level. And now you know, doing the studio show,
- 5:56Speaker 3: it's like I'm consuming the league like a fan. Now
- 5:59Speaker 3: you know where it's like I know the storylines, I
- 6:01Speaker 3: know what's going on with the coaches. I know what's
- 6:03Speaker 3: going on, you know with the locker room conflicts, and
- 6:05Speaker 3: we're talking about them and trying to give our perspective.
- 6:08Speaker 3: So it's been a change, but it's been a ton
- 6:10Speaker 3: of fun. You've been a part of it, right, You've
- 6:13Speaker 3: been on the show with us, on the NFL Today,
- 6:15Speaker 3: you run the NFL Today, plus this past weekend. The
- 6:18Speaker 3: people at CBS are awesome. The people you get to
- 6:20Speaker 3: work with are incredible. So it's been fun. I've enjoyed
- 6:24Speaker 3: that part of it.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Wed Asa, and you went to a straight out of retirement,
- 6:27Speaker 2: you know, like from working to working.
- 6:30Speaker 1: What was that decision?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Like, you know, you go, you leave Atlanta, you go
- 6:32Speaker 2: over to Indianapolis and you're like, you know what TV?
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah, you know. Honestly, I didn't know what I was
- 6:39Speaker 3: going to do because my year in Indye didn't go
- 6:42Speaker 3: as planned, neither for the team or myself, and so
- 6:45Speaker 3: it ended a lot faster than I thought. You know,
- 6:48Speaker 3: in your head, you have this idea like maybe I'll
- 6:50Speaker 3: go there, maybe I'll play two or three years. Ends
- 6:52Speaker 3: up only being one season there, and so the end
- 6:56Speaker 3: happened faster, and for whatever reason, I wasn't ready to
- 6:59Speaker 3: just doing anything and had the opportunity to to keep
- 7:04Speaker 3: busy that first year, didn't fully retire, kind of kept
- 7:08Speaker 3: my options open in case something, you know, were to
- 7:11Speaker 3: come up, but nothing did, and I really enjoyed what
- 7:13Speaker 3: I was doing, So for me, it felt like the
- 7:15Speaker 3: right thing to do to just keep moving and and
- 7:19Speaker 3: and keep busy at that time, because I think, I
- 7:22Speaker 3: think you know it. And listen, man, you're busier. You're
- 7:25Speaker 3: you're very busy, h even you know as a player,
- 7:28Speaker 3: you're active, and I think it's great. Uh, and you're
- 7:31Speaker 3: doing things in different spaces, which I think is really cool.
- 7:35Speaker 3: But I operate better when I'm busy, and and when
- 7:37Speaker 3: I've got too much free time, I'm not at my best.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Right absolutely, I mean we just thought about, you know,
- 7:44Speaker 2: going from how the analysts, being analyst change your ways
- 7:47Speaker 2: because you're studying film, you're breaking down everybody, not just
- 7:50Speaker 2: not just you know the other eleven, no, all phases
- 7:53Speaker 2: of the game. Does that keep you up on like that?
- 7:55Speaker 2: The new rule changes as well? Like you know, how
- 7:57Speaker 2: the format for the kickoff has changed. How you know.
- 8:00Speaker 3: The rough of the passers take only a little bit
- 8:05Speaker 3: of time to get roughing the passer with you and
- 8:08Speaker 3: was going to get your comment on it. I sat
- 8:09Speaker 3: with JJ last year, Jj Watt. He was all over
- 8:12Speaker 3: it every week, coach cowor same way.
- 8:14Speaker 2: But think about you entered the league and you were
- 8:16Speaker 2: getting smacked, smoked, blindside smoked. They looked back like, ha,
- 8:21Speaker 2: Now it's like, do you mind if I tackle you?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Can I put you down?
- 8:24Speaker 3: I think it's even crazy. I think, you know, it's
- 8:27Speaker 3: one thing when you're a player, when you're a quarterback,
- 8:29Speaker 3: I'd be lying if I told you I didn't like
- 8:31Speaker 3: the rule changes. I was sitting there and I was like,
- 8:33Speaker 3: you know what, that's probably a good thing. But I
- 8:35Speaker 3: watch it now with the with a different perspective, and
- 8:38Speaker 3: you see how difficult it is, you know, to avoid
- 8:42Speaker 3: some of the calls, and and how the refs really
- 8:45Speaker 3: are conditioned to throw it right and to protect a quarterback.
- 8:49Speaker 3: And I do think, you know, my perspective has changed
- 8:53Speaker 3: on it, and that's probably because I'm not sitting in
- 8:54Speaker 3: the pocket anymore having to take those hits. But it
- 8:57Speaker 3: has changed. And I do feel for for you guys,
- 9:00Speaker 3: because I think those rule changes have made it really difficult,
- 9:04Speaker 3: uh for you guys. There's like this small little target
- 9:07Speaker 3: that you have to hit and you can only hit
- 9:08Speaker 3: it for so long. But you can only hit it
- 9:09Speaker 3: so hard you can't take it to the ground, and
- 9:12Speaker 3: and uh, it's it's really really difficult.
- 9:15Speaker 2: No, no doubt. I mean, just being the defender seems
- 9:19Speaker 2: like there's always more and more impeding infractions on us
- 9:23Speaker 2: than than the offensive side.
- 9:25Speaker 3: That's true. Points man, one points.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Just just tell us straight up, Hey, guys, you guys
- 9:31Speaker 2: are here to just just to sort of be around.
- 9:33Speaker 2: We don't want you to take over. Is there any
- 9:35Speaker 2: like friendly rivalry competition between you? Of course, there's a
- 9:39Speaker 2: myriad of quarterbacks in this league that have joined the
- 9:41Speaker 2: analyst side, whether it be Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Troy.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Troy been been doing it probably longer than I've been alive,
- 9:47Speaker 2: you know, Tony Romo, like is there is there like
- 9:50Speaker 2: a hey, I want to be the.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Best still and it's still in effect.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I think I think all of us have a certain
- 9:56Speaker 3: level of pride, you know, when you're asked to go perform,
- 9:59Speaker 3: whether that is going out there and performing on Sundays
- 10:02Speaker 3: and throwing the football around and trying to be as
- 10:04Speaker 3: good as you can be and be the best, and
- 10:05Speaker 3: then I think the same goes true for when you
- 10:08Speaker 3: go on air. You want to you want to be
- 10:10Speaker 3: able to, you know, go on there and do a
- 10:13Speaker 3: great job and and you know, provide insight and entertain
- 10:17Speaker 3: people that are listening and are tuning in. So yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 3: I think there is. I don't think it's as personal,
- 10:23Speaker 3: you know, as playing. They can get personal playing right
- 10:26Speaker 3: where you're going against somebody for a long time. Like
- 10:28Speaker 3: I see Drew going in now and he's doing games
- 10:31Speaker 3: for Fox, which I think he'll do great, But I
- 10:34Speaker 3: would have never said that as a player, right, like,
- 10:36Speaker 3: oh man, I'm so happy for Drew. He's doing great
- 10:38Speaker 3: and I love Drew. He's you know, just a good
- 10:41Speaker 3: person and obviously with such a great quarterback. But the
- 10:44Speaker 3: level of competitiveness I think is not quite the same
- 10:47Speaker 3: in the broadcast space as it is on the field.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Absolutely. I mean, you know, level of pettiness maybe.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Well, I think the difference gam I think the difference is,
- 10:58Speaker 3: at least from my perspective, you root for everybody to
- 11:01Speaker 3: do well when you're done. You know, you want everybody
- 11:04Speaker 3: to be on air, be doing a great job, and
- 11:08Speaker 3: you want to do that yourself. Of course, but I'm
- 11:12Speaker 3: not always sure that's the case when you're playing, you know,
- 11:14Speaker 3: I think.
- 11:14Speaker 1: It's it's never the case.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I had about five picks from from Drew.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they happened often.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Look it's you know, now we're getting towards where I
- 11:23Speaker 2: want to talk to anyways, you know, alluding to Sunday.
- 11:26Speaker 2: You know, I dropped you the portrait, the gift, you know,
- 11:29Speaker 2: beautiful while you were in dinner.
- 11:32Speaker 3: It was me and you together forever. I was surprised, dude,
- 11:36Speaker 3: I was surprised. Do you know who painted it? The
- 11:38Speaker 3: great job.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I have no idea, Like you know, CBS was like,
- 11:42Speaker 1: it was like, hey, man, you went on this.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I was like, I'm always in on harassing a quarterback,
- 11:48Speaker 2: even a great guy like you.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Absolutely. You know. It's funny they asked you if you
- 11:53Speaker 3: were in on it. They didn't ask me if I
- 11:54Speaker 3: was in on it. Lets you know, like, hey, Cams,
- 11:59Speaker 3: he heads up. I had no idea that was coming.
- 12:01Speaker 3: I opened it up.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm like, really, really, I was gonna be received. I'm
- 12:06Speaker 1: gonna be Julio Jones. I'll go catch it.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I'll take you back the words did a good job, though, Man,
- 12:12Speaker 2: you do it, you know, I appreciate CBS for letting
- 12:17Speaker 2: partake in that. And then you know, of course I
- 12:20Speaker 2: figured you didn't take the portrait home. You probably left
- 12:22Speaker 2: it there.
- 12:23Speaker 3: No, they're sending it to me, sending it home to it.
- 12:26Speaker 3: They're sending it home to me. I don't know what
- 12:28Speaker 3: I'm in. I got a fireplace at the house. I
- 12:30Speaker 3: might throw it in. I'm not exactly sure what I'm
- 12:33Speaker 3: gonna do with it, but it's coming home. It's coming
- 12:34Speaker 3: back to the crib.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The boys at a paintball gun. You know, a right equalizer,
- 12:38Speaker 1: that's right, say that.
- 12:40Speaker 3: That's exactly where. It's a dark board. Your face is
- 12:42Speaker 3: the dart board. Now, I figure.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I figured that's where we were going, which is perfectly
- 12:47Speaker 2: because you know, we talked about rivalries early on that
- 12:49Speaker 2: talked about the studio. Back to this rivalry, it's it's
- 12:52Speaker 2: Atlanta hate week.
- 12:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:54Speaker 2: For you, as a quarterback, do you feel do you
- 12:57Speaker 2: feel the spur between the two cities, the two teams?
- 13:02Speaker 3: I felt it for sure as a player, you know,
- 13:05Speaker 3: and for most of my career it was going against
- 13:09Speaker 3: it was going against you on the defensive side of
- 13:11Speaker 3: the ball for so long. But also drew and knowing
- 13:15Speaker 3: you know, it was going to be tough going against them,
- 13:17Speaker 3: and Sean Payton was there for such a long time
- 13:20Speaker 3: during that portion of it too, so you know, we
- 13:22Speaker 3: had some honestly, we had some great battles.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:26Speaker 3: You know, we talk about both those football teams being
- 13:28Speaker 3: really good from the time you entered the league until
- 13:31Speaker 3: you know, twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. For us, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 3: we had a nice little run there. It was. It
- 13:35Speaker 3: was a competitive it was a good football team, and
- 13:38Speaker 3: the same being said for you guys, right, like different
- 13:41Speaker 3: stretches where you're as good as there is in a league.
- 13:43Speaker 3: So I think that added to it. I think, you know,
- 13:45Speaker 3: throughout the twenty tens that was that was a battle
- 13:48Speaker 3: that went back and forth, and you could you could
- 13:51Speaker 3: then feel it with the cities too, right, you would
- 13:53Speaker 3: see kind of the extra that would come with it.
- 13:55Speaker 3: And I always thought that was fun to be a part.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I want to know, like in New Orleans, there's going
- 13:59Speaker 2: to be like a second line that happens after we
- 14:01Speaker 2: beat y'all, you know, like it's it's leading up to
- 14:03Speaker 2: the week, I'm heading up to the condo and I
- 14:05Speaker 2: got to stopped three or four times. I just got
- 14:07Speaker 2: done with a school visit this morning, and the kids
- 14:09Speaker 2: were like, hey, we gotta beat the Birds. They already know.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I'm talking to fourth and fifth grade kids and they're
- 14:16Speaker 2: already like, yeah, hey, as long as we will beat
- 14:17Speaker 2: the Birds. This is like, I know we're in a
- 14:19Speaker 2: bad season right now, but we can turn around because
- 14:22Speaker 2: it starts with the Birds.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'm like, okay.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I was like, these eleven twelve year olds are locked in,
- 14:25Speaker 2: whether it be med and whether it be whatever it is.
- 14:27Speaker 1: They're like, yeah, I'm going to the game this week
- 14:30Speaker 1: because I know we're gonna.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Get a win. Yeah. You feel it here in Atlanta too.
- 14:34Speaker 3: You do feel it here in Atlanta where it's like
- 14:36Speaker 3: we're going against the Aints boys, and you got to
- 14:38Speaker 3: take the Aints down right. That's never in there. But
- 14:43Speaker 3: I remember. I remember, I'm not sure if you were
- 14:46Speaker 3: on the team yet or not, but I remember like
- 14:48Speaker 3: it was kind of at the beginning of Twitter, beginning
- 14:51Speaker 3: of Instagram. Whatever. You guys are coming in here late
- 14:53Speaker 3: in the season, and I remember people at the airport
- 14:57Speaker 3: started like egging the plane or something like that. You guys,
- 15:00Speaker 3: I think that.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Was my my rookie or secie in the league, like
- 15:03Speaker 2: right right we landed.
- 15:04Speaker 1: They like pelted buses.
- 15:06Speaker 2: We were getting on with dozens of eggs, and I
- 15:09Speaker 2: was like, well, that's just dumb.
- 15:10Speaker 1: We're already on the bus and this is your bus.
- 15:12Speaker 3: We're in Georgia. Yea, Like this didn't make the most sense.
- 15:16Speaker 2: You're not affecting us technically, like this this is a
- 15:19Speaker 2: Georgia company.
- 15:20Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, that's exactly right. Yeah, you're hurting your
- 15:23Speaker 3: own Maybe we should have reconsidered what we did, but.
- 15:27Speaker 2: It means a lot. No, they went out their way
- 15:30Speaker 2: to meet us at the airport for this. I said, okay,
- 15:33Speaker 2: I mean.
- 15:34Speaker 3: It's so much so even my family would feel it,
- 15:36Speaker 3: you know, like we got to do it this week. Yes,
- 15:40Speaker 3: you know. I get on the phone with my dad
- 15:42Speaker 3: or whatever during the week and he's like, hey, man,
- 15:45Speaker 3: you got to take care of business this week. And
- 15:47Speaker 3: you're like, Dad, I got to take care of business
- 15:48Speaker 3: every week. He's like, no, no, this week, you got
- 15:51Speaker 3: to take care of business this week. All right.
- 15:53Speaker 1: He feels it absolutely, man.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I mean two of your top six performances of all
- 15:58Speaker 2: times came against us. One in twenty fourteen, when I
- 16:01Speaker 2: think our defense credit was rob Ryan at the time
- 16:04Speaker 2: twenty twelve Spagnulo both times not like you know, historically speaking,
- 16:09Speaker 2: and you look back at it on defense for us,
- 16:11Speaker 2: what wasn't great?
- 16:12Speaker 1: Someonuld say historically the worst and you took.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Advantage twenty fourteen through for four hundred and forty eight
- 16:17Speaker 2: yards three tundies one in overtime, like we were still
- 16:21Speaker 2: fighting back, but it's fine.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Oh no, it was back and forth.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Man.
- 16:23Speaker 3: We needed every one of them right here, just going
- 16:25Speaker 3: deep over the top to Roddy White. Is that Roddy
- 16:27Speaker 3: White Roadty White? Oh my god, look this is listen.
- 16:31Speaker 3: We got the big fellow involved right here. Mike Johnson
- 16:33Speaker 3: went the touchdown pass and.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Like, how do you like, how do you not defend
- 16:36Speaker 2: office the lineman and my ten year old can defendo
- 16:39Speaker 2: offics of lie. Now, a fifty fifty ball from Julio
- 16:41Speaker 2: Jones lethal to any and everybody.
- 16:43Speaker 1: The fifty to fifty is really ninety nine, We would.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Say it's a hundred hundred's That's how we would talk
- 16:48Speaker 3: about those those moonballs to.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Julio, that's not fair, Like just six' four red a
- 16:55Speaker 2: four to three forty inch vert just od.
- 16:58Speaker 3: DOES i he was he was different, Man julio. Was
- 17:03Speaker 3: he was, different and UH i learned, something you, know
- 17:06Speaker 3: playing in the, league that there's good players and then
- 17:09Speaker 3: there's the elite of the. Elite and he was, that you,
- 17:13Speaker 3: know just the the the, size the, speed the, strength
- 17:17Speaker 3: his ability to go up and make plays on, ball
- 17:19Speaker 3: as physically gifted and as tough a competitor as anybody
- 17:22Speaker 3: you've ever played, with no. Doubt All, right when's your
- 17:25Speaker 3: highlight reel coming? UP i know you got. ONE i
- 17:27Speaker 3: know you got.
- 17:28Speaker 2: One glad you, asked because the pels here your four
- 17:30Speaker 2: hun the first time you ever showed some of my
- 17:32Speaker 2: highlights though when we've been.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Together SO i appreciate. It i'm.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Trying i'm trying to be unbiasedly no bias.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Here, YES i love.
- 17:40Speaker 2: It of course you would talk about one or the other,
- 17:42Speaker 2: things you, Know thanksgiving. Games you know you're talking about
- 17:44Speaker 2: giving game twenty, Nineteen week.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Thirteen you know that was like a gift that just
- 17:50Speaker 3: went down for.
- 17:50Speaker 2: You you just you gave me the layup four, sex you,
- 17:54Speaker 2: know just our two in the fourth, quarter three in
- 17:58Speaker 2: the fourth quarter or something.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Like that hit. OFF i had TO i got to
- 18:00Speaker 3: change my. CADENCE i wasn't doing a, good good enough
- 18:03Speaker 3: job with the cadence you got off on it.
- 18:04Speaker 2: There, YEAH i, mean especially when you know the time
- 18:08Speaker 2: clock goes down below five, seconds like there's no switching
- 18:11Speaker 2: it up at that. Point i'm getting off fasted office
- 18:12Speaker 2: the line because i know already the next sound has
- 18:15Speaker 2: to be a.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Go, yes you were. RIGHT i was. Wrong that was
- 18:18Speaker 3: the problem with playing. Offense that shot clock keep going,
- 18:22Speaker 3: down the play clock keeps going. Down at some point
- 18:24Speaker 3: you have to snap the, ball no. Doubt and it
- 18:27Speaker 3: looked like in a couple of those, CLIPS i didn't
- 18:28Speaker 3: want to snap the. BALL i didn't want. TO i
- 18:30Speaker 3: didn't want. TO i knew what was, coming like this.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Poor, tackle like you, know, like oh, man it's just you,
- 18:35Speaker 2: know got this got this big fellow that's about to
- 18:37Speaker 2: get worked.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Over But i've always SAID i rushed the.
- 18:40Speaker 2: QUARTERBACK i don't rust office Alignment like you can name
- 18:43Speaker 2: your entire office of, line And i'm sure there's some
- 18:45Speaker 2: good guys out, there but what makes AN o line
- 18:48Speaker 2: good to me is the. Quarterback like you, know because
- 18:52Speaker 2: at some point twenty, fifteen you were getting the ball
- 18:54Speaker 2: off under two point four. Seconds were was that headed
- 18:57Speaker 2: towards THE mvp year or whatever like whatever was you were.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Unstoppable seemed like it's like, YO i could beat the.
- 19:03Speaker 2: TACKLE i could beat a guard and still not get.
- 19:05Speaker 2: THERE i could win cleanly and not get.
- 19:07Speaker 3: There it was.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Frustrating play, well.
- 19:09Speaker 3: That was the WAY i had to, play. RIGHT i
- 19:11Speaker 3: didn't HAVE i didn't have the skill set to be
- 19:14Speaker 3: able to extend and kind of take off and pick
- 19:16Speaker 3: up chunks with my, legs and so the WAY i
- 19:19Speaker 3: was always going to be successful was understanding how to
- 19:21Speaker 3: get the ball out of my, hand put it in
- 19:23Speaker 3: playmaker's hands in, space and try and give them the
- 19:26Speaker 3: opportunity to do. It but, inevitably there always comes a
- 19:29Speaker 3: time where you need to take a shot downfield and
- 19:32Speaker 3: you need to push the ball down the field vertically,
- 19:34Speaker 3: absolutely and that's where you. Ate that's where you, ate all.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Right sometimes you got to hold it on through it
- 19:39Speaker 3: for three, seconds and we knew that was going to
- 19:40Speaker 3: be a. Challenge but you get into those kind of
- 19:42Speaker 3: games AND i always Give i've said it to you
- 19:45Speaker 3: a million. TIMES i always thought the effort and the
- 19:47Speaker 3: energy and the motor that you played with was so
- 19:50Speaker 3: hard for us to go. Against, right because it was
- 19:52Speaker 3: you were going to play the majority of the snaps
- 19:55Speaker 3: pretty much the entire, game and you were going to
- 19:57Speaker 3: go you didn't take plays, off and that was always
- 20:00Speaker 3: one of the hardest things for us to go. Against
- 20:03Speaker 3: but when you look at a lot of those, clips,
- 20:05Speaker 3: right we're, trailing we're, Down we've got to down the
- 20:07Speaker 3: field to try and get back, in and that's when
- 20:10Speaker 3: you would pin your ears, back man and get.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Out when you get to, lead you're, like all, right
- 20:14Speaker 1: now they have to make these.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Plays, yes third is seven and they're down by three or,
- 20:19Speaker 2: seven preferably, ten you, know a possession and a, Half
- 20:22Speaker 2: like now you have to make a deep. Throw now
- 20:24Speaker 2: you have to go get, it and you can't hide
- 20:26Speaker 2: behind boost play. Actions it's just, like oh gotta got.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Game and play actions don't work in those, situations.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Exactly like that's when it gets fun for a defensive
- 20:34Speaker 2: lineman till Then i'm just buying time making, tackles you,
- 20:37Speaker 2: know playing the. Run, yeah feeling, No, NO i want
- 20:40Speaker 2: to BE i want to be up by two touchdowns
- 20:43Speaker 2: and just pinning it.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Back that's exactly, right and that that was always our game,
- 20:47Speaker 3: plans you, know coming into a week playing against you
- 20:50Speaker 3: was you, know we got to try and find a
- 20:51Speaker 3: way to play from in front and make and make
- 20:54Speaker 3: uh not make us one. Dimensional we can't just sit
- 20:57Speaker 3: there and be a drop back five and seven step
- 20:59Speaker 3: drop back passing. Team we've got to be able to
- 21:02Speaker 3: run the. Football we've got to be able to get
- 21:03Speaker 3: it out of our. Hands we gotta we gotta. Believe
- 21:05Speaker 3: we got to make them believe we're going to run the, football,
- 21:08Speaker 3: uh and make them earn the right to to rush the.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Passer but, uh and that's.
- 21:12Speaker 1: WHY i go so, well BECAUSE i believe in stopping the.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Run, First i'm, LIKE i tell my guys a little, time, like, hey,
- 21:16Speaker 2: bro you know it feels good a, sack, SURE i,
- 21:18Speaker 2: said but you know it feels better when it's second and.
- 21:20Speaker 1: TWELVE i, said let's play this.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Run let's get A TfL first, down second, even second,
- 21:25Speaker 2: down sallom, out third, down we can go get it
- 21:27Speaker 2: you third, down which you, know it sort of brings
- 21:29Speaker 2: up my favorite sack off me and you you, know
- 21:32Speaker 2: out of our twenty three, together it was someone in
- 21:35Speaker 2: the fourth. Quarter. Yeah, absolutely that's What i'm. Saying like
- 21:38Speaker 2: there were times WHERE i kind of had one off,
- 21:40Speaker 2: you but you never now this one was. Perfect it
- 21:42Speaker 2: was the end of the. Game you had to hold.
- 21:43Speaker 2: It oh, yeah gre push you out the, Way, sorry Big.
- 21:47Speaker 2: PHILA i need. That And i'm Always i've always wanted
- 21:49Speaker 2: to share this moment with you, there you. KNOW i, Said,
- 21:51Speaker 2: look there's been a lot of, sacks there's been a
- 21:53Speaker 2: lot of your. Touchdowns verse are not enough touchdowns and
- 21:56Speaker 2: games going up down whatever it. IS i, said but
- 21:58Speaker 2: we had a special. Moment i'll, say, hey let me
- 22:01Speaker 2: get that.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Ball you did get. It you also you also tossed
- 22:05Speaker 3: me out of the. BAR i was kind of standing.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Up you were a hefty, guy you, know you try
- 22:11Speaker 3: to reach back and you one arm tossed me out
- 22:13Speaker 3: of the bar and took the. Ball that Was that
- 22:17Speaker 3: was a good one for your, highlight, RIGHT.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I mean for, you probably, like, hey that's on, me
- 22:21Speaker 2: AND i look at your office linemen like do.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Better you, know if he won't say, IT i will do.
- 22:26Speaker 3: It that's all, me, man that's all. ME i will
- 22:28Speaker 3: never throw my guys under the. Bus you have to
- 22:30Speaker 3: say what you have to. Say but just know we
- 22:32Speaker 3: looked at. It there's been times whe're, like, man all,
- 22:35Speaker 3: right this is our duck and you like take. Advantage,
- 22:37Speaker 3: luckily you know it's it's just. Been it's been great that.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Way we'll be back in a. Minute in terms of favorite,
- 22:45Speaker 3: teammates do you have any of all? Time IF i
- 22:47Speaker 3: say top, three because IF i give you, one you're
- 22:50Speaker 3: going to take two or. Three, yeah, yeah you know
- 22:52Speaker 3: how it, goes, Right it's impossible to pick. ONE i will.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Say i'll, say let me give you the two wide.
- 22:58Speaker 3: RECEIVERS i Mean Roddy white And Leo, jones two of
- 23:01Speaker 3: my favorite teammates of all, time just not only given
- 23:05Speaker 3: that they could go out there and play and and
- 23:07Speaker 3: make plays and we're so, great but just awesome, competitors
- 23:10Speaker 3: awesome dudes in the locker. Room you would love them as. Teammates,
- 23:14Speaker 3: Uh Tony gonzalez another. One i'm gonna give you Four
- 23:16Speaker 3: Tony gonzales in. There tony g cow. Guy you gotta love.
- 23:20Speaker 3: That uh he he was. Incredible and Then i'll give

- 23:27Speaker 3: U todd, McClure tom, McClure you, know was, yeah he.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Was he was awesome. Man just old. School we used
- 23:35Speaker 3: to call mud. Duck that was his uh that was
- 23:37Speaker 3: his nickname for us so mud. Duck he was one
- 23:39Speaker 3: of my favorite teammates of all.
- 23:40Speaker 2: TIME i was waiting for office line to be thrown in,
- 23:42Speaker 2: THERE i, said a quarterback who doesn't LOVE i loved.
- 23:45Speaker 3: THAT i loved a lot of.
- 23:46Speaker 2: THEM i Loved is he a? Center he was a? Center,
- 23:49Speaker 2: yes there we, Go. Bob yeah you're you're under. There
- 23:51Speaker 2: you're touching cheeks For, yeah we were. Close we're, close.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Rightfully SO i just feel, like if if a quarterback
- 24:00Speaker 2: in the center and you're under, center you know him in.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Depth you Know i've seen. It AND i, said at this,
- 24:08Speaker 2: POINT i know they have to Have thanksgiving. Together you
- 24:11Speaker 2: know somewhere in there that bond has got to be,
- 24:14Speaker 2: deep deeper than real. WRAP i think you know what
- 24:18Speaker 2: you've been able to do over your, Career, bro has
- 24:20Speaker 2: been nothing short of. AMAZING i, mean the way you
- 24:22Speaker 2: used to be able to get the ball, off like,
- 24:24Speaker 2: said she used to be so.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Frustrating and even.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Though i'm, LIKE i circle the calendar every, time we've
- 24:29Speaker 2: made the falcons, up LIKE i, Know i'm getting at least.
- 24:31Speaker 2: One you know it was it was the. Man there's
- 24:34Speaker 2: so many PLAYS i could have, had but you defeated
- 24:36Speaker 2: like it. Was it was the dropback As i'm, hitting
- 24:39Speaker 2: you sort of get the ball off or even If i'm, Winning,
- 24:42Speaker 2: bro the way you dice and dice us, up like
- 24:44Speaker 2: with the quick, GAMES i just be. Confused i'm, Like,
- 24:47Speaker 2: bro this is so frustrating knowing that you have the
- 24:49Speaker 2: ability to take over the, game and rightfully. SO i, mean,
- 24:52Speaker 2: now you, KNOW i don't know how you break your your.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Career you, know you were able to play with so many,
- 24:57Speaker 2: guys but you were The hall Of famer out your.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Group you and who would be the Obvious hall Of
- 25:01Speaker 2: fame choices right like for you to be, there you
- 25:04Speaker 2: elevated play with so many. Guys, well you're nice to say.
- 25:08Speaker 3: IT i Think julio's an absolute first Ballot hall Of,
- 25:12Speaker 3: famer one of the best to ever do. It AND
- 25:15Speaker 3: i appreciate you saying all those nice things about, me
- 25:17Speaker 3: BUT i said the, SAME i said the same for.
- 25:20Speaker 3: You you, KNOW i think your level of consistency from
- 25:25Speaker 3: the time he came into the league until right now
- 25:27Speaker 3: is and it's one of the THINGS i think AS
- 25:29Speaker 3: i got older as a, PLAYER i admired more was
- 25:34Speaker 3: people who would come in and perform at a high
- 25:36Speaker 3: level and then sustain and then be able to do
- 25:39Speaker 3: it with great longevity because it's so hard in this
- 25:43Speaker 3: league to be able to do. It my respect for
- 25:45Speaker 3: guys like that goes through the. Roof and you, know
- 25:48Speaker 3: we got to compete against each other so. MUCH i,
- 25:51Speaker 3: THINK i think you're going to be in, there. MAN
- 25:53Speaker 3: i think a gold jack is going to look good
- 25:54Speaker 3: with that yellow hair that you got right, now that
- 25:57Speaker 3: blonde hair, whatever whatever color it, is right, now.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Right. Now, yeah we'll cut off off the f. Season
- 26:03Speaker 2: i'll go back TO i need a. JOB i think
- 26:05Speaker 2: you should go it back in for when you go Into.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Cantons so it looks good with the, COAT i think
- 26:09Speaker 2: it'll all. Match maybe even die up the. Mustache it
- 26:12Speaker 2: would look. Good, dude that look.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Crazy BUT i do think it's one of the coolest
- 26:17Speaker 3: things to, have the kind of rivalry that The saints
- 26:20Speaker 3: And falcons have to play it against you so, much
- 26:23Speaker 3: and now have having gotten to know you after, playing
- 26:27Speaker 3: BECAUSE i didn't know you, really you, know other than you,
- 26:31Speaker 3: know other than an interaction of being on the ground
- 26:34Speaker 3: and you you, know laughing or getting excited or. Whatever up,
- 26:38Speaker 3: afterwards but getting to know you and getting to know
- 26:40Speaker 3: what you're all, about that part has been. Special and
- 26:42Speaker 3: there's so much respect for for you and for so
- 26:45Speaker 3: many of the guys THAT i competed against In New,
- 26:47Speaker 3: orleans no.
- 26:48Speaker 1: DOUBT i, mean do you ever go back and just
- 26:50Speaker 1: like look at the old.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Film, No, NO i don't know What i'm.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Saying, No i'm just, wondering like in the retired, phase
- 26:57Speaker 2: does that? Happen and like if, so win you, know like,
- 27:00Speaker 2: MAN i had some good, games like just like like
- 27:02Speaker 2: as it pick me.
- 27:02Speaker 1: UP i don't do, coffee SO i assume.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Like one of these, Days i'm, like you, know older
- 27:07Speaker 2: in my in my forties or, whatever And i'm sitting around,
- 27:09Speaker 2: like you know, what let's turn on these this highlight
- 27:11Speaker 2: reel like, Yeah.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I'll throw this out there my kids every once in a.
- 27:14Speaker 3: While So i've got three young. Boys my twins are.
- 27:16Speaker 3: SEVEN i got a two year old, son and my
- 27:18Speaker 3: twins are massive into football now and they don't really
- 27:21Speaker 3: remember me, playing you, know too young at that. Point
- 27:24Speaker 3: they vaguely remember, it but yeah they're too, young and
- 27:28Speaker 3: they'll ask about teammates and then and Then i'll be
- 27:31Speaker 3: like all, Right, yeah let's let's put on A Julio
- 27:33Speaker 3: jones like highlight reel three in this hey. Day yeah,
- 27:36Speaker 3: Yeah and they're, Like, dad that was kind of, nice,
- 27:40Speaker 3: Man like that was a nice. Ball LIKE i was, like,
- 27:43Speaker 3: yeah that was you, know all. RIGHT i was, okay you,
- 27:46Speaker 3: know once in a WHILE i go back with them
- 27:48Speaker 3: and start watching a few.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Things all, Right so it's gonna be it's gonna because of. Them.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yeah luckily my kids are a little.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Older they've THEY'VE i got a ten year old and
- 27:55Speaker 2: he's like he like lives and dies with The. Saints
- 27:57Speaker 2: AND i got a nine year. Older she's just getting
- 27:59Speaker 2: like cardinal knowledge of what she's, Like oh you're pretty, good,
- 28:03Speaker 2: Dad oh, thanks, thanks you know that's.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Cool, yes it's. Done and on.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Them just in terms of like i'd like to SAY
- 28:11Speaker 2: qb play across you, know maybe across the. League, now
- 28:14Speaker 2: as an, analyst do you do you start to like,
- 28:17Speaker 2: subterfuse you like to start directing exactly what you what
- 28:20Speaker 2: you like about, quarterback what you think you like he
- 28:22Speaker 2: could improve. On are you a critique like you know,
- 28:25Speaker 2: me IF i walk into a, Restaurant i'm judging from
- 28:27Speaker 2: from the MOMENT i step in service was.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Good food was.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Good When i'm watching the, game AND i try to
- 28:32Speaker 2: be an. Analyst WHEN i was doing it for THE USFL,
- 28:33Speaker 2: cfl they'd be, like, oh did you see the deep
- 28:35Speaker 2: ball and the slam? RABBIT i was, like, yeah but
- 28:36Speaker 2: did you see this trench? Work did you see this
- 28:38Speaker 2: technique and the way he was able to? Swim like
- 28:40Speaker 2: how are you able to? See do you see everything
- 28:42Speaker 2: now or do you, specifically like look at quarterback.
- 28:45Speaker 3: PLAY i think we all lean towards the positions we played,
- 28:48Speaker 3: right like you're not Gonna you're not going to change
- 28:50Speaker 3: the way you see. Football, YEAH i think we have
- 28:53Speaker 3: so much of our life spent seeing it through our
- 28:55Speaker 3: own eyes and our own lens that that you lean that.
- 28:58Speaker 3: WAY i do you, think you, know after having been,
- 29:02Speaker 3: Done I've i've focused a lot more on defensive players
- 29:06Speaker 3: and watching them d linemen for, sure, dbs you, know
- 29:11Speaker 3: and even even like offensive line play of trying to
- 29:14Speaker 3: learn and really look, at you, know how these guys
- 29:17Speaker 3: are doing, it why they're doing it so. Well AND
- 29:20Speaker 3: i Think i've gotten better in that. Area BUT i
- 29:22Speaker 3: do THINK i think we lean to to the things
- 29:25Speaker 3: that we, love right and for, me that is quarterback.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Play But i'm always, LIKE i always try and remember
- 29:30Speaker 3: how hard it is to be the guy out there
- 29:33Speaker 3: doing it. Right it looks a lot easier when you're
- 29:35Speaker 3: sitting on your couch or or sitting up in the press,
- 29:37Speaker 3: box like looking, down it looks a lot easier than
- 29:39Speaker 3: it is than when you're actually out. There SO i,
- 29:41Speaker 3: always you, know try and write down on my notes or,
- 29:43Speaker 3: whatever just don't forget how hard it, was, man because
- 29:46Speaker 3: it's not as easy as it, looks no.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Doubt BUT i, mean have you seen have you noticed
- 29:50Speaker 2: like the evolution of the, quarterback you, know like for,
- 29:52Speaker 2: Me for, me WHEN i first got into that eleven
- 29:55Speaker 2: we Had Cam, NEWTON i was a, big, fastest strong
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yet Mike VICK i, was you, know smaller, Fast but
- 30:00Speaker 2: now it seems like everybody's most.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Sure, YEAH i, MEAN i THINK i think it's a
- 30:05Speaker 3: prerequisite now to play quarterback in THE. Nfl you have
- 30:08Speaker 3: to be able to extend. Plays you have to be
- 30:10Speaker 3: able to, move you have to be able to run
- 30:11Speaker 3: with the, football you, know the like you, said there
- 30:15Speaker 3: were like four or five different guys that could really
- 30:17Speaker 3: move when you first came into the, league and now
- 30:19Speaker 3: it's like there's four or five guys that are pocket,
- 30:21Speaker 3: passers and so that that that shifts has definitely had, it,
- 30:25Speaker 3: uh has has come in THE, nfl and it's it's,
- 30:28Speaker 3: uh it's interesting to see it's it's it's definitely. Different
- 30:32Speaker 3: BUT i don't think that's going away because you see
- 30:34Speaker 3: the pressure it puts on the run. Game on you,
- 30:36Speaker 3: know third and five or less or fourth and four or.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Less you have the ability to run as a. Quarterback
- 30:42Speaker 3: it's game. Changing mm, Hmm.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I'll, say AND i, mean which leads us back to Uh.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Atlanta, OH i actually said that out.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Right, okay.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Perfect how do you feel about their current quarterback? Situation
- 30:54Speaker 2: michael Pigs junior. OUT i think officially as of. Yesterday,
- 30:58Speaker 2: YEAH i went ON I r you, know.
- 31:00Speaker 1: It's tough and now he's actively.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Out, yeah it's. Tough you, know you have a young
- 31:06Speaker 3: quarterback that you're trying to develop and get going and he's,
- 31:10Speaker 3: still you, know only ten or eleven games into, it
- 31:12Speaker 3: even though he's in his second, year and now that
- 31:14Speaker 3: he's going to miss more. TIME i think that's that's
- 31:17Speaker 3: difficult on the organization for, sure you, know but it's
- 31:20Speaker 3: a Different they're bring In, kirk AND i, said you
- 31:24Speaker 3: know that you're not worried as much about the movement
- 31:26Speaker 3: and being able to, extend and not That Michael pennix
- 31:29Speaker 3: is doing a ton of, it BUT i think he's
- 31:30Speaker 3: more athletic than people give him credit. For he can
- 31:33Speaker 3: get out and move a little. Bit so you, Know
- 31:36Speaker 3: i'm optimistic About michael in the. FUTURE i really. Am
- 31:39Speaker 3: but you, know like you were talking about, before it
- 31:42Speaker 3: hadn't been the best season for both of the, teams you,
- 31:46Speaker 3: know coming into, It but there's still gonna be a
- 31:48Speaker 3: little extra juice to.
- 31:49Speaker 2: It, well there's gonna be all types of this is
- 31:50Speaker 2: gonna be all types of sauce added to, this added
- 31:52Speaker 2: this is. GAME i think that you, know it's sort of,
- 31:57Speaker 2: like you, know when you were over At, indianapolis you,
- 32:00Speaker 2: know they had the young guy that they wanted to,
- 32:02Speaker 2: go and you've got a better quarterback that can. GO
- 32:05Speaker 2: i DON'T.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I don't understand it sometimes.
- 32:09Speaker 2: When you, like you, know you have a certified, baller
- 32:11Speaker 2: and you're, like but we could have a baller IF
- 32:15Speaker 2: i thought always thought it was like in my mind
- 32:17Speaker 2: because maybe it's it's just me and the Way i've
- 32:19Speaker 2: always played.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Football i'm, like you're best to live in.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Play But i've learned now it's all about development as
- 32:25Speaker 2: well for young guys through the, fire And i'm trying
- 32:29Speaker 2: to understand. It so it's, like you, know when you
- 32:32Speaker 2: sort of look at, it you, like, wait why are
- 32:34Speaker 2: we pivoting towards the future when the president is?
- 32:37Speaker 3: Here that's, hard you, Know and that's and that's the
- 32:40Speaker 3: job of a staff in the front office to. DETERMINE
- 32:43Speaker 3: i think, QUARTERBACKS i think offensive line are too of
- 32:46Speaker 3: the positions where you really don't get any rotation of, players,
- 32:49Speaker 3: right you, know and and so and so the decision
- 32:51Speaker 3: making on when to develop and when to put them
- 32:53Speaker 3: in and when to take, Somebody, LIKE i think you
- 32:56Speaker 3: have flexibility at these other positions to be able to
- 32:58Speaker 3: develop these guys in a, rotation and it just doesn't
- 33:02Speaker 3: seem to, be you, know it's it's not that way
- 33:03Speaker 3: for offensive, line it's not that way for. Quarterback and you,
- 33:07Speaker 3: Know i'm like, YOU i see it out of both
- 33:09Speaker 3: both lenses where it's, like, hey we can win right,
- 33:11Speaker 3: now and we can do it with this. Group but you,
- 33:15Speaker 3: know there's there's also this lens of he's got to
- 33:18Speaker 3: cut his teeth at some, point and we feel like
- 33:20Speaker 3: he's he's got the potential to be a great. Player
- 33:22Speaker 3: so you, know that's that's the old. Saying if you've
- 33:24Speaker 3: got two, quarterbacks you don't have. One you, know you
- 33:27Speaker 3: just don't Have SO i don't, Know i'm kinda just
- 33:32Speaker 3: get one guy and let.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Them, ball no, doubt and do it early and just
- 33:35Speaker 2: like stick with, it, guna let me figure it. Out
- 33:38Speaker 2: oh all, right let me let me ask you of
- 33:40Speaker 2: course about, uh you, know a team you were part
- 33:42Speaker 2: of with The colts being what are they nine and?
- 33:44Speaker 2: Two eight and two right? Now first place AT? Afc,
- 33:47Speaker 2: oh what do?
- 33:48Speaker 1: You what do?
- 33:48Speaker 2: You what do you think about then when The Super
- 33:49Speaker 2: bowl run? Out THE AFC afc strong right?
- 33:52Speaker 3: Now, yeah THE afc. STRONG i think it's also wide.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Open you. KNOW i think you look at the top
- 33:58Speaker 3: of THE afc right now AND i think there's cold
- 34:00Speaker 3: there's people that you probably wouldn't have expected to be
- 34:03Speaker 3: there right that don't have recent championship, pedigree whether That's,
- 34:07Speaker 3: indy whether It's, denver whether It's New. England but you
- 34:11Speaker 3: talk about the front runners in that conference and you're,
- 34:13Speaker 3: saying where where is where Is mahomes where is you,
- 34:18Speaker 3: Know Herbamar jackson And Josh allen's below them as. Well
- 34:23Speaker 3: so you, KNOW i do, THINK i do think their
- 34:25Speaker 3: team's playing extremely good. FOOTBALL i do. THINK i do
- 34:29Speaker 3: think still, though like The bills and The chiefs and
- 34:33Speaker 3: even are making a way back into. It if they
- 34:35Speaker 3: find a way, in they're going to be dangerous in
- 34:37Speaker 3: the playoffs because they understand what it takes to. Win
- 34:39Speaker 3: SO i think we're seeing a bit of a changing
- 34:41Speaker 3: of the. Guard but something in me still, SAYS i
- 34:44Speaker 3: don't know about.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Saying for, me it's just like a breeze right, now
- 34:47Speaker 2: like more the current could get, strong but never Like
- 34:52Speaker 2: i'm never going to look At Pat mahomes Or Justin
- 34:54Speaker 2: herbert Or lamar and be, like, no they can't win
- 34:56Speaker 2: any more, Now, No they've got the.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Man it's.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Crazy what About Jonathan. Taylor he's a LEGIT mvp candidate right,
- 35:06Speaker 2: now Right like he's, like, Say quan last.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Year is unbelievable, teammate awesome to play, with great, dude
- 35:14Speaker 3: great work. Ethic you, know those are the things you
- 35:16Speaker 3: don't know about players until you're behind the scenes with
- 35:18Speaker 3: them and you see them every. Day and so it
- 35:20Speaker 3: makes it you root for him even more because of
- 35:24Speaker 3: the kind of person that he. Is but his production
- 35:25Speaker 3: has been. Outrageous it's been so, good and, REALLY i
- 35:30Speaker 3: think his impact on that team is similar To saquan's last,
- 35:32Speaker 3: year where as a running, back he's put that team
- 35:35Speaker 3: on his back and taking them to a height they
- 35:37Speaker 3: haven't been in a long. Time.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Absolutely, LOOK i was confused when when you saw the
- 35:41Speaker 2: tickers was a season or two, ago when When indianapolis
- 35:44Speaker 2: wasn't trying to pay. Himself what so what do YOU i,
- 35:46Speaker 2: said when you have a marquee running, back you'll give
- 35:49Speaker 2: him whatever you. Want, yes you see sa Kuon barkley
- 35:52Speaker 2: and The giants at year, Three i'll be, like, hey
- 35:55Speaker 2: here's this lifetime. Deal, like no matter what you, make
- 35:57Speaker 2: this is what you're. Making we'll update. Accordingly you'll get
- 36:00Speaker 2: A Jonathan, taylor you, know The Josh, jacobs The, aarons
- 36:03Speaker 2: THE i, mean you talk about just what The saints
- 36:06Speaker 2: Without ak just the limited. Ability But John, robinson could
- 36:11Speaker 2: you the? Mummy he touched the, Feeling he makes people
- 36:13Speaker 2: around him.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Better, yeah you're, Right you're, Right, LIKE i.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Don't want to stand the running back. Market we could
- 36:18Speaker 2: talk about that part, Too like the running back market
- 36:20Speaker 2: is that. Low like there's guards making two times but
- 36:23Speaker 2: off with premiere office of A.
- 36:25Speaker 1: GUARD i, mean the.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Speed bumps shouldn't be both.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Them Speed bumps should not be making what A ferrari.
- 36:36Speaker 3: Doesn't, cost what A maserati. Costs it just.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Doesn't there's things that go into.
- 36:40Speaker 2: It that's that's the one right, there Because i'm gon
- 36:42Speaker 2: call him speed bump every. Time at this point of the,
- 36:46Speaker 2: season who separated? Themselves we've talked about THE, afc of,
- 36:49Speaker 2: course top three Being, Broncos, Patriots, COLTS, NFC.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Nfc he see seems a little bit more.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Muddled, YEAH i. AGREE i, mean you, Know philadelphia still
- 37:00Speaker 3: playing very good. Ball their defenses is. BALLING i Think
- 37:03Speaker 3: la The rams are playing really good. Football that game
- 37:07Speaker 3: between The rams In seattle last week was was really really.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Tough both defenses are.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Legit see it ended up the way it.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Did, Yeah, NO i mean, Listen, seattle even with the
- 37:17Speaker 3: four turnovers For, darnold still had a chance at the
- 37:19Speaker 3: end of that. Game and SO i think both those
- 37:21Speaker 3: teams are are really. Tough you, know in The. South
- 37:25Speaker 3: we'll see if The bucks can stay. HEALTHY i mean
- 37:27Speaker 3: you've seen. HIM i think The bucks are, tough but
- 37:30Speaker 3: their health has, been you, know an issue of really
- 37:32Speaker 3: contending with some of those top, teams and The lions
- 37:35Speaker 3: have been a little bit. Inconsistent SO i still think
- 37:38Speaker 3: like The lions have a run in, them given how
- 37:40Speaker 3: that team is, built and if they get hot at
- 37:42Speaker 3: the right, time you know, What you've been around it
- 37:44Speaker 3: for a long. Time getting hot at the right time,
- 37:45Speaker 3: matters and they've got enough firepower in that building if they,
- 37:48Speaker 3: DO i, think to make a. Run SO i think
- 37:50Speaker 3: THE nfc is going to be really. Interesting is?
- 37:53Speaker 2: Nice jared go dices it up really? Nice, YEAH i,
- 37:57Speaker 2: MEAN i, mean, yeah IT'S i THINK i think THE
- 38:01Speaker 2: nfc is a little bit more closer together in terms
- 38:03Speaker 2: of a favorite being out, there WHICH i love that for.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Us, yes you, KNOW i NEED i need everybody to
- 38:08Speaker 1: keep come back.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Losing let's get a, comeback and we've probably got to
- 38:11Speaker 2: go all seven in a. Row but you, Know god is.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Good there's there's a way we're not. Out and that's
- 38:17Speaker 2: ALL i can ALL i can owe. For you know,
- 38:20Speaker 2: what looking back at, IT i haven't asked this. ONE
- 38:24Speaker 2: i guess you had the highlight games you, had you,
- 38:26Speaker 2: know my, highlights your. Highlights we talked about The atlanta
- 38:28Speaker 2: is there is there a defining game of your career
- 38:31Speaker 2: that you look back and be, like you know What Matt,
- 38:34Speaker 2: Ryan Papa met showed them why we was on the?
- 38:37Speaker 1: Attack, yeah you know WHAT i.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Played you, KNOW i think the bigger, games you, know
- 38:42Speaker 3: obviously would have. WISH i wish we would have won
- 38:44Speaker 3: that Super bowl that we played, in but you know
- 38:47Speaker 3: what have come. Back but the but THE nfc championship
- 38:52Speaker 3: game before going Against Aaron, Rodgers, UH i think it
- 38:54Speaker 3: was one of the best GAMES i ever played in my.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Life and and so you, know when you have those
- 38:58Speaker 3: opportunities to win a conference, championship to go to a
- 39:02Speaker 3: Super bowl and you can perform and you can, deliver
- 39:05Speaker 3: it's one of the Ones i'm most proud, of for.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Sure but you, know there's a lot of. Them there's
- 39:11Speaker 3: a lot of THEM i look back, on and you,
- 39:13Speaker 3: know some maybe don't have the you, know the the
- 39:17Speaker 3: cachet that some of the bigger games, have but you're, like,
- 39:20Speaker 3: MAN i was doing my thing that, night right AND
- 39:23Speaker 3: i WAS i was performing and it might have not
- 39:25Speaker 3: been at the gaudiest of, numbers but LIKE i played
- 39:27Speaker 3: really really solid. Football but you, know the ONE i
- 39:30Speaker 3: think of is probably that twenty SIXTEEN nfc. Championship.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Mm, yeah, yeah that's that's, solid and is to win
- 39:39Speaker 2: AN nfc. Championship, yeah gotta do that next next year or.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Two get, there, man go for, it no.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Doubt gotta go for, It atlanta in.
- 39:47Speaker 3: It that'd be. PERFECT i don't like that for.
- 39:49Speaker 2: ME i don't like that for, me you, know like
- 39:51Speaker 2: because at that POINT i probably if we play each,
- 39:54Speaker 2: other we probably like one in. ONE i don't like.
- 39:56Speaker 2: THAT i want to BE i want to be a
- 39:57Speaker 2: clean sweek to it, All, OKAY i don't like The
