Latest / The Call to Women in Faith Podcast / Judas, Peter, Pilate or Mary?
Transcript
- 0:00Good morning. In one of our family discussions, we were talking about Judas,
- 0:05and I began to think about what role I have in the crucifixion of Jesus.
- 0:10We all know that he died for our sins. I am sinful, as much as I do not want
- 0:16to be, and my freedom, my salvation, is due to him.
- 0:21So besides the incessant sinning, what role do I play on a regular basis?
- 0:27This may sound like a strange question, but walk with me through the dark recesses of my mind.
- 0:33We all play an active role in any given situations, even when we are passive.
- 0:39And hence the question, what role do I play in the crucifixion of Jesus?
- 0:46Am I like the greedy Judas who lacks loyalty and will betray the trust of my loving God?
- 0:51Am I a weak coward who denies Jesus when anything I value is at stake?
- 0:57Am I like Pilate, who did nothing knowing Jesus was innocent,
- 1:03letting innocent suffer so that I am not inconvenienced?
- 1:08Am I like the Pharisees who were afraid that their hypocrisy and love for authority will be exposed?
- 1:14Am I like the lost sheep in the crowd, yelling crucify him, in a mindless state influenced by the mob?
- 1:21Or am I like the Marys at the foot of the cross, drowned in sorrow and feeling helpless?
- 1:27For those of you rooting for me, unfortunately I play all these roles.
- 1:32Not wittingly, mind you. I want to do something completely different.
- 1:37I want each living moment to be spent glorifying our good Lord.
- 1:42Quote, I do not understand what I do, for what I want to do I do not do,
- 1:48but what I hate I do. End quote.
- 1:52Romans chapter 7 verse 15. At times, for ease, I ignore what God expects me
- 1:59to do like Pilate did when he washed his hands.
- 2:02At other times, I occupy my mind with worry and sorrow, demonstrating a lack
- 2:07of faith like the Mary's at the foot of the cross.
- 2:10If I really could, I would be Simon of Cyrene, willing to partake in Jesus'
- 2:16cause, not asking questions, just lugging the cross in complete obedience.
- 2:22Quote, Now as they led him away, they laid hold of a certain man,
- 2:28Simon, a Syrianine, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the
- 2:34cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. End quote.
- 2:39Luke chapter 23 verse 26.
- 2:44Dear Jesus, you died for me and for all of your children.
- 2:48Help me channel my thoughts, actions, and words today and every day to glorify you.
- 2:54Let every fiber in my being reflect the gratitude I feel for you,
- 2:59for being loved as much as you love me. Amen.
