- 0:00Speaker 1: Track the Galaxy's most Unpredictable Star Trek Podcast.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Welcome Star Trek.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I am the host, Scott Strong Beer Bowders, And that's it.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's just about me, all right, Well host yep.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Scott, Wow, I don't I don't think he screams his
- 0:44Speaker 3: own name in that in that seed?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Did you want me to scream yours? Okay, here we go.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Well, here's the question. Here's the question. And I mean
- 0:57Speaker 3: this is really a question for desiree Scott scream of
- 1:00Speaker 3: his own name. I'm just curious.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Wow, I don't need these answers all that. Oh yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 2: I would take.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I was traumatized after that episode that we just watched,
- 1:19Speaker 1: so oh wow boy, yeah that that inspired the the
- 1:26Speaker 1: over the top all about me intro.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I got I got feelings. I got feelings about
- 1:36Speaker 3: this episode.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I mean I liked it kind of maybe a little.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I mean, there was a lot of people it was.
- 1:46Speaker 1: There are a lot of times where where Does and
- 1:48Speaker 1: I were sitting on the couch and watching the episode,
- 1:50Speaker 1: we looked over each other like and smiled like, yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I get that, that's funny. But yeah, and then you
- 1:58Speaker 1: then you're done with the episode and you reflect upon it,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and then yeah, feelings, we'll talk about it. Feelings, we'll
- 2:09Speaker 1: talk about it. How's everybody doing?
- 2:13Speaker 3: Good? Goody. I'm tired. We were talking in the green room.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I'm tired. I'm always tired. I think that's my natural
- 2:21Speaker 3: my natural state. Now other than that, you know, I
- 2:25Speaker 3: I bring this up from time to time that I
- 2:27Speaker 3: look around and I see star Trek everywhere. I sometimes
- 2:30Speaker 3: make Star Trek connections in my head that maybe are there,
- 2:34Speaker 3: maybe aren't there. But I was at karate the other
- 2:37Speaker 3: day and a new girl started, she's about my son's age.
- 2:43Speaker 3: But I overheard her yeah, yeah, but her name, her
- 2:48Speaker 3: name is Anka. And whenever I whenever I hear a
- 2:54Speaker 3: real person named Anka, I have to just, you know, wonder,
- 3:00Speaker 3: I wonder. You know. She's thirteen years old where her
- 3:02Speaker 3: parents Voyager fans, and towards the end of class, I
- 3:07Speaker 3: overheard her mother talking with the head instructor and turns
- 3:12Speaker 3: out they had a friend in common, and I overheard
- 3:15Speaker 3: the mother say, oh, well, I was the class of
- 3:17Speaker 3: nineteen ninety five. I'm thinking, okay, So mom was eighteen
- 3:22Speaker 3: years old when Voyager came out. Three years later, when
- 3:28Speaker 3: seven of nine rolled around, she was in her early twenties,
- 3:31Speaker 3: So I think there's like there's like a seventy five
- 3:36Speaker 3: percent chance that this kid is named after a Borg drone.
- 3:41Speaker 3: But I just don't know how to ask mom without
- 3:44Speaker 3: coming off like a total creep. So I don't know. Well,
- 3:47Speaker 3: maybe I'll.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Never know that she's not a star trek man. It
- 3:50Speaker 1: could be that her daughter is the tertiary adjunct of
- 3:52Speaker 1: Unimtord zero one.
- 3:54Speaker 3: So that's that zero excuse me, excuse me, zero zero one.
- 3:58Speaker 3: If you're gonna do it, do it zero. You're not
- 4:01Speaker 3: going to say it. Yeah, if you're not going to
- 4:03Speaker 3: say it, right, just just.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Don't call on that it's Uni Matrid zero one.
- 4:07Speaker 3: You know, you know how you I think it's zero
- 4:10Speaker 3: zero one?
- 4:11Speaker 1: Google me right, Uh, audience.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Dan, Here's how you pull it off. You tell her
- 4:17Speaker 2: that you're worried about your son. He had a spelling
- 4:20Speaker 2: test and you got a steven out of nine. See
- 4:25Speaker 2: what she says to that.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, maybe she's the seventh of nine kids, you know,
- 4:30Speaker 1: maybe maybe?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Dog Green wants to know if we caught the
- 4:36Speaker 2: Back of the Future reference eight light speed.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah No, I didn't know, I did. I remember them
- 4:45Speaker 1: saying point eight light speed. But yeah like it.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah cool, So guys, guys, turn on your turn on
- 4:53Speaker 3: your recorders. I'm about to apologize to to Scott's strongbeard.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I actually I made I made a mistake. It's it's
- 5:04Speaker 3: it's Uni Matrix zero one. And now I and now
- 5:07Speaker 3: I know where my confusion came from. Earth Earth is
- 5:10Speaker 3: I think sector zero zero one? Okay, yeah, and I
- 5:17Speaker 3: think spend some time chatting about sector zero zero one. Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 3: I apologize, sir. What's the what's the opposite of a
- 5:25Speaker 3: nerd alert? You take nerd cred away from me? I
- 5:30Speaker 3: don't know.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yeah, your nerdy I I accept your apology.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Well, thank you, well, thank you sir.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Now that we've got past that, I think we can
- 5:45Speaker 1: move on, move on with the podcast, I think.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well let's let's get the news before there's
- 5:51Speaker 2: more apologies and all ye star Trek news, right, yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Our first news story comes to us from, uh it's
- 6:06Speaker 2: some financial website. What is this? Media playnews dot com?
- 6:13Speaker 2: That old you know?
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah, and uh, Paramount recently had their.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Their quarterly report and they reported that they have lost
- 6:29Speaker 2: one point three million subscribers. However, revenue is up. So
- 6:37Speaker 2: that's interesting. So apparently to them, what they say was
- 6:43Speaker 2: the cause of the the drop in subscribers, it's not
- 6:47Speaker 2: anything to do with their you know, programming, or or
- 6:51Speaker 2: lack of interest or anything like that. It's the fact
- 6:53Speaker 2: that promotion ended and so of course they were going
- 6:57Speaker 2: to lose that many subscribers. It's totally fine. Nothing is
- 7:00Speaker 2: a year. They do say that that profits are up though,
- 7:05Speaker 2: and that's due largely to the free added supported streaming
- 7:11Speaker 2: service Pluto, which has become very very popular, and so yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 2: that makes sense, more people are watching it.
- 7:18Speaker 3: You know. What they're saying, is they're saying is old
- 7:32Speaker 3: broadcast style, free free television.
- 7:35Speaker 2: It's saving them. It's saving them, baby. Yeah. So that's
- 7:40Speaker 2: that's what they're saying about that that revenue increased fifteen
- 7:44Speaker 2: percent from one point eight nine billion to two point
- 7:49Speaker 2: one billion a year of a year for those sorts
- 7:53Speaker 2: of things. So yeah, the big deal with sky dances
- 8:00Speaker 2: to officially close on August seventh, even though it's pretty
- 8:05Speaker 2: much done. It's just it's all just fine right now. Yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 2: So but that's that's where we're at. This is what
- 8:13Speaker 2: sky dnswer is picking up down in subscribers up in
- 8:18Speaker 2: profits allegedly. So yeah, m what do you think people
- 8:24Speaker 2: are leaving? Is it just emotion or.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I'm sure that's part of it, but I bet the
- 8:32Speaker 1: larger part is content.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I mean, you know, you you you don't subscribe to
- 8:39Speaker 1: these services unless you're super into the things that they're
- 8:45Speaker 1: they're playing. Yeah, so if you're not into Star Trek,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you're not in the n CIS, you're not into any
- 8:50Speaker 1: of these things, You're not gonna stay. You might have
- 8:53Speaker 1: gotten the subscription because you have Walmart Plus, or you
- 8:59Speaker 1: have a certain phone service, or you are a podcast
- 9:02Speaker 1: host that you just why you have it, you know, right,
- 9:06Speaker 1: But for the average Joe, I think.
- 9:08Speaker 3: There's another factor.
- 9:10Speaker 2: What's that that I think there's.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I think there's another factor, and that's the laziness factor.
- 9:19Speaker 3: People subscribe to these things and then they don't unsubscribe
- 9:22Speaker 3: because they're too lazy to go unsubscribe. So then something
- 9:27Speaker 3: comes along that's a catalyst that will make them unsubscribe
- 9:33Speaker 3: to these things, and I think I think, yeah, no, no,
- 9:41Speaker 3: I was referring to the Stephen Colbert saying I think
- 9:46Speaker 3: people are I think people are lazy. The average person
- 9:48Speaker 3: is lazy and the average person is a follower. And
- 9:52Speaker 3: I think the talking heads are telling people you're you're
- 9:55Speaker 3: supposed to be angry about this.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Because they're told they're supposed to be ang agree about it.
- 10:01Speaker 3: They're going to be angry about it, and they're going
- 10:03Speaker 3: to go do something about it. They're going to cancel, yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 3: their subscription.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It could be all sorts of different things too. I
- 10:14Speaker 2: also think that, like, there was that article I sent
- 10:16Speaker 2: you guys from Rolling Stone talking about the state of
- 10:19Speaker 2: Star Trek in Paramount and all that, And in that
- 10:22Speaker 2: article they mentioned that the more popular stuff is not
- 10:25Speaker 2: necessarily Star Trek, but it's the the Tyler Sheridan shows,
- 10:30Speaker 2: the Yellowstones and what was the other one that.
- 10:35Speaker 1: They made in nineteen twenty three, eighteen yeah.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yea yeah no, but they mentioned another set of shows too, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 2: but that those kinds of shows are bringing in audiences
- 10:48Speaker 2: and not necessarily Star Trek. So it's it's kind of interesting. Yeah, right,
- 10:57Speaker 2: so we'll see, right, well, okay, I will.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But.
- 11:06Speaker 3: He's still he's going to cancel his Paramount.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Plus right, that's right, He's like, yeah, they.
- 11:12Speaker 3: One of these one of the one of these talking
- 11:15Speaker 3: heads told them he should be mad about it.
- 11:16Speaker 2: That's right, that's right. Now he's angry.
- 11:20Speaker 1: It's like I'm out.
- 11:23Speaker 2: So our next news story comes to us from Cinema
- 11:25Speaker 2: Blend and Star Trek's Robert Priccardo revealing something concerning that
- 11:30Speaker 2: the Emah in Star Trek Academy should delight Voyager friends,
- 11:35Speaker 2: that should delight Voyger fans. So we're learning a little
- 11:40Speaker 2: bit more about how the Emah is going to be
- 11:43Speaker 2: portrayed in Star Trek Academy. And they had this, uh
- 11:49Speaker 2: this article talking about that, but let me pull the quote.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It says, the wonderful thing about this series is that
- 11:56Speaker 2: I will compare myself to the Doctor at my age,
- 11:59Speaker 2: with all the experience in life that I've had, the
- 12:02Speaker 2: most exciting thing is to learn something new at any age.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The Doctor perfectly embodies that. So, yes, you will see
- 12:08Speaker 2: multiple events, but one major event and one major character interaction,
- 12:13Speaker 2: uh some about something very new. And when you're eight hundred,
- 12:17Speaker 2: that's particularly meaningful. So mm hmm, there's got is it
- 12:24Speaker 2: kind of gird that he says he's eight hundred. I
- 12:27Speaker 2: thought the Doctor was older than that.
- 12:34Speaker 3: How would you be older than that then they go.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Because Voyager shot up like nine hundred years or I
- 12:42Speaker 2: mean Discovery, I guess, yeah, he would be eight hundred.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I yeah, eight hundred sounds right to me.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, So.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I'm curious about what their explanation for his his aging
- 12:57Speaker 1: is gonna be. Yeah, is it gonna be Are we
- 12:59Speaker 1: gonna be like, oh, that's lame? Or is it gonna
- 13:02Speaker 1: be like oh yeah, okay, I can get behind that.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Well. And and the other thing is, I guess one
- 13:07Speaker 2: of the characters in in Stretrik Academy is a photonic
- 13:12Speaker 2: life form, so that I guess those two are gonna connect,
- 13:18Speaker 2: being both photonic beans, which we've seen that before and
- 13:23Speaker 2: Voyager there was that episode where they met the whole
- 13:26Speaker 2: photonic So.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Yeah, cool always goes goes over.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Well, that's right, It's totally fine. So yeah, so there's that,
- 13:40Speaker 2: all right, And then our last news story comes to
- 13:44Speaker 2: us from let's see what is this TV insider? So
- 13:50Speaker 2: there has been a lot to do with the whole
- 13:55Speaker 2: is there going to be a Muppet episode? Because as
- 13:57Speaker 2: far as I can tell, they have not firm for
- 14:00Speaker 2: sure that there's going to be a Muppet episode. There's
- 14:03Speaker 2: just that teaser and you see Spike as am up it.
- 14:07Speaker 2: But it sounds like it's confirmed because straight into the Worlds,
- 14:12Speaker 2: Paul Wesley admits he's jealous he's not in the puppet episode.
- 14:17Speaker 2: So there was an interview with them because they were
- 14:20Speaker 2: all a comic cons and they were talking to all
- 14:22Speaker 2: sorts of people. But he says, quote, I'm not in
- 14:25Speaker 2: that episode unfortunately, so I can't speak to it. But
- 14:28Speaker 2: I've seen some of this stuff and it's pure brilliance.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I'm jealous that I'm not actually in it. So we're
- 14:36Speaker 2: gonna get a puppet.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Episode, so.
- 14:39Speaker 3: We gotta we got him, We got a musical, We're
- 14:42Speaker 3: getting a puppet episode. What else? What else do you
- 14:46Speaker 3: think we're gonna get? We're gonna clamations, We're gonna get
- 14:50Speaker 3: a silent movie episode. Clamation, yeah, clamation, they did the
- 14:55Speaker 3: animated crossover thing.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, three D I don't know.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yeah, oh god, yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I'm I gonna have am I gonna have to go
- 15:07Speaker 3: to seven eleven and and drink six lurpees to get
- 15:10Speaker 3: a pair of glasses to watch them sort of star trek?
- 15:13Speaker 3: Is that is that how that's gonna work?
- 15:15Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised.
- 15:17Speaker 3: See, you know you can. You can't get him out
- 15:19Speaker 3: of the you can't get him out of the Sunday paper.
- 15:24Speaker 3: That's even a thing.
- 15:26Speaker 1: This is what scares me. Do you do you guys
- 15:29Speaker 1: feel the vibe of the three of us right now,
- 15:32Speaker 1: because all three of us.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Are like, yeah, I'm gonna I said something to my wife.
- 15:41Speaker 3: I said, uh, I feel like I'm falling out of
- 15:46Speaker 3: love with star Trek oh and and and and I
- 15:52Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know what to do about it.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Obviously it's going to be counseling.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Show me on the doll.
- 16:05Speaker 1: We're starting hurting you, right, Yeah, you need to go.
- 16:09Speaker 1: We all need to go see a therapist. I don't know.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I like that we're having a serious conversation out and
- 16:16Speaker 2: the muppet is right there staring at us.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Yeah, he's staring at me. He's staring at me.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Because this is right, or it's not going to be
- 16:27Speaker 1: an alternate reality episode.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Well, and we don't know. Are they muppets the entire episode?
- 16:34Speaker 2: Is it one sequence? We don't know?
- 16:37Speaker 1: I I yeah, Well, here's the thing.
- 16:40Speaker 3: They have a holid deck now, so they can do
- 16:43Speaker 3: whatever they want, right.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But they put the moth balls.
- 16:46Speaker 3: But yeah, that doesn't mean anything. They can pull it
- 16:52Speaker 3: out anytime they want. They can visit a star base
- 16:56Speaker 3: for one anytime they want.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Yeah all right, yeah all right. So yeah that's all
- 17:05Speaker 2: the news stories. So there you go. Should we get
- 17:11Speaker 2: to the main topic. Yeah, all right, let's get to
- 17:14Speaker 2: the main topic.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Fun will now comment.
- 17:22Speaker 2: All right, so we are reviewing the Strategy Worlds season
- 17:26Speaker 2: three episode for a Space Adventure hour. We will see
- 17:32Speaker 2: what people think. Oh, look at this, it was tricky, Dan,
- 17:36Speaker 2: I have to agree with you have to see that
- 17:40Speaker 2: we fall out of New Trek the course, our trick
- 17:43Speaker 2: will always be there.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah you know what, girl, No, not
- 17:50Speaker 3: that you can always go back to your old girlfriend,
- 17:52Speaker 3: But even even that old girlfriend who you broke up
- 17:56Speaker 3: with years ago, you still have fond memories of the
- 17:58Speaker 3: time that you spent with that person. And that's how
- 18:02Speaker 3: I would I would equate this. You know, Deep Space
- 18:05Speaker 3: nine is is always there for me to revisit anytime
- 18:08Speaker 3: I want. But yeah, I don't know, I'm just not excited.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I was, you know, I tuned into this episode and
- 18:20Speaker 3: I mean I watched it.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I watched it but.
- 18:25Speaker 2: The log line real quick sure would long test a
- 18:29Speaker 2: prototype holiday with a fictional case that only she can solve.
- 18:33Speaker 2: The conuen consequences of failure get greater and greater with
- 18:37Speaker 2: the enterprise hanging in the balance. So there you go.
- 18:44Speaker 2: That's here's the realization I came up with you Yeah, okay,
- 18:52Speaker 2: good good, good good good.
- 18:55Speaker 3: No, I was just gonna say they I think they
- 19:00Speaker 3: had a lot of fun spoofing TOS. Okay, the first
- 19:08Speaker 3: but I think they had I'm sorry, clear my igot
- 19:11Speaker 3: to muse to Mike. I think they had too much
- 19:15Speaker 3: fun spoofing TOS. That first segment that takes place on
- 19:22Speaker 3: a fictional show within a show.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Was so long.
- 19:29Speaker 3: It was so long before we even got the intro
- 19:33Speaker 3: to the show. And none of what they did there mattered.
- 19:37Speaker 3: None of it had anything to do with the episode. Okay,
- 19:42Speaker 3: and even the credits, the closing credits, were more of that.
- 19:47Speaker 3: So I think they set up this retro set and
- 19:50Speaker 3: they shot a whole bunch of stuff, and they loved
- 19:53Speaker 3: it so much and it was so much fun that
- 19:56Speaker 3: they crammed it into this episode even though it was
- 20:00Speaker 3: it was not needed. It was not needed. They could
- 20:03Speaker 3: have accomplished the same thing with ten just ten seconds
- 20:09Speaker 3: of that.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Oh well, Paul.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Wesley is in this episode and he's talking like William
- 20:18Speaker 3: Shatner circa nineteen sixties, and uh, what's your name is?
- 20:21Speaker 3: Wearing a really short skirt? What's going on here? That's
- 20:25Speaker 3: all that's all you needed. Instead, they did it. They
- 20:28Speaker 3: did the first segment of a TOS episode and then
- 20:32Speaker 3: did full TOS opening credits, and none of it mattered
- 20:36Speaker 3: for the for the big scheme of the of the episode,
- 20:40Speaker 3: and then the story for the episode itself was kind
- 20:43Speaker 3: of shallow too, So I don't know it stretching. No, No,
- 20:53Speaker 3: it was recycled.
- 20:56Speaker 2: It was an idea. It wasn't a story that was
- 20:58Speaker 2: the issue.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Yes, that's exactly what it is. It was an idea.
- 21:03Speaker 3: And the idea is not even a new one though,
- 21:05Speaker 3: because all right, let's do a holiday episode. This is
- 21:09Speaker 3: how it probably went down. Let's do a holiday episode.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Well they don't have the holidack, all right, well we'll
- 21:13Speaker 3: do you know, we'll do a conversation about why they
- 21:15Speaker 3: do have a holiday, and then we'll do a holiday episode. Okay,
- 21:19Speaker 3: what are we gonna do in our holiday episode? Let's
- 21:22Speaker 3: have a character who's trapped in the Holidack and it's
- 21:25Speaker 3: malfunctioning and they can't get out, and the safety protocols
- 21:29Speaker 3: are turned off, and we'll have a twist ending to
- 21:32Speaker 3: resolve it. Yeah, we've seen this episode a thousand times
- 21:36Speaker 3: on TNG and Deep Space nine and Voyager and and
- 21:42Speaker 3: even even the main twist at the end was recycled.
- 21:49Speaker 3: You know it was. It was straight out of TNG. Oh,
- 21:53Speaker 3: you told the computer to make a character, make a villain,
- 21:57Speaker 3: uh able to defeat data? Right, so they created not
- 22:01Speaker 3: the character but data. Okay, same thing here. She asked
- 22:06Speaker 3: the Holidack to create a story that will be difficult
- 22:10Speaker 3: for her to solve Lan. Difficult for Lan to solve,
- 22:14Speaker 3: not difficult for Alexis Texas or whatever her name was.
- 22:20Speaker 3: I don't know, I can't I can't remember the character's name.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it was all that whole thing was I fan
- 22:28Speaker 1: girl over fan service. But this was way too much
- 22:30Speaker 1: for even me. Yeah, and those not those levers, those
- 22:34Speaker 1: levers pissed me off.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 22:37Speaker 1: That was that was too much. That that took me out.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And the way that Ortegas operated them was phallic and weird,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and I didn't. I didn't like those lovers.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I did love his impression though.
- 22:53Speaker 1: That I did too.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yeah, but there was so much of it. It was
- 22:59Speaker 3: so much of.
- 23:00Speaker 2: It, Yeah, that it got old right right.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I the realization I came with, now, let me, let me,
- 23:08Speaker 3: let me, let me, let me say one let me
- 23:10Speaker 3: say one thing. Okay, I would I would look at
- 23:13Speaker 3: I would look at Nurse Chapel and that costume until
- 23:15Speaker 3: the end of time.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah. I like Pike. At one point my wife leaned
- 23:23Speaker 1: over and was like, who is that is that? I'm like, yeah,
- 23:26Speaker 1: that's that's Ants and Mount, that's Pike. Because he looked
- 23:29Speaker 1: the least amount like his normal character. I thought he
- 23:32Speaker 1: did a fantastic job of creating a completely separate character.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Dancing dancing. So dancing dancing is TV's way of saying
- 23:45Speaker 1: we are having sex without having sex, right like dance partners.
- 23:53Speaker 1: The other thing I noticed, you just if you can
- 23:55Speaker 1: go back one picture the door, Yeah, uh they must
- 23:59Speaker 1: have got and that door off of a Star Destroyer
- 24:03Speaker 1: because that door opened and closed violently, like it was
- 24:08Speaker 1: like the way the way that a Star Wars door
- 24:12Speaker 1: opens and closes. That was insane.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Well, the thing I was going to say, is it
- 24:20Speaker 2: struck me that the Stranger New Worlds has gone from
- 24:23Speaker 2: the exploring show to the fan fiction show, Because it's like,
- 24:28Speaker 2: they're like, Okay, what do people want to see. Oh,
- 24:31Speaker 2: we want to see them as detectives. We want to
- 24:33Speaker 2: see them in the nineteen sixties. Oh, we want to
- 24:35Speaker 2: see them, you know, in this outfit or that outfit
- 24:38Speaker 2: or this situation. We want to see them as puppets.
- 24:40Speaker 2: We want to you know, it's not it's not exploring.
- 24:46Speaker 2: It's not you know, the core of Star Trek. Yes,
- 24:50Speaker 2: it all reads like fan fiction. Now, Scott, Now Spock
- 24:52Speaker 2: has a girlfriend. Oh, but the girlfriend doesn't like him.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Let's give him another girlfriend.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yeah, like immediately after, Well, we said before the show
- 25:02Speaker 1: is not showing us strange new.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Worlds, no strange new outfits.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, they've gotten away a little bit from their core.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Mm hmm, I mean a lot away from their core,
- 25:18Speaker 1: you know, and they can't seem to they can't seem
- 25:20Speaker 1: to balance on this teeter totter. It's either you know,
- 25:24Speaker 1: horrible gorns are are sucking the life on you out
- 25:28Speaker 1: of you and planting babies in your gut to dressing
- 25:32Speaker 1: up as holiday characters. I'm willing to bet that next
- 25:34Speaker 1: week episode is a is a serious episode with a
- 25:38Speaker 1: lot of a lot of steak, probably, you know, because
- 25:44Speaker 1: that that they went serious, funny serious, this is funny,
- 25:49Speaker 1: Like I think they need to have more of an
- 25:51Speaker 1: even killed episode that deals with you know, fundamental star
- 25:54Speaker 1: Trek seek out, you know, strange new worlds.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Up through the lens of time.
- 26:01Speaker 3: You know, we've talked, we've talked about this before. We
- 26:07Speaker 3: get ten episodepisodes we used to get twenty six. Yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 3: if you get three stinkers out of twenty six, it's
- 26:14Speaker 3: not a big deal. You get three stinkers out of ten,
- 26:17Speaker 3: and that's a thirty year, thirty year season, and you know,
- 26:20Speaker 3: we get ten episodes, but really, really you get eight
- 26:25Speaker 3: because the season opener is the is wrapping up the
- 26:29Speaker 3: season before that ended in a cliffhanger, and the season
- 26:32Speaker 3: finale is setting up the cliffhanger for next season. So
- 26:35Speaker 3: you get you get eight episodes in the middle, and
- 26:39Speaker 3: then if three of those are stinkers, well you're at
- 26:42Speaker 3: almost half at that point.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And I see, I didn't hate this episode, but I'm
- 26:48Speaker 1: looking for it to for like you just said, you
- 26:50Speaker 1: only get eight episodes. I'm looking for it to further
- 26:52Speaker 1: the story of the season. This kind of episode is
- 26:55Speaker 1: fine when you have twenty six. I mean, this wasn't
- 26:58Speaker 1: an Ala Moraine. It was a perfectly serviceable episode. Like
- 27:01Speaker 1: you don't, I don't want to see it. If I
- 27:04Speaker 1: only get to see five more episodes or six more episodes,
- 27:09Speaker 1: then you know, easy up on the bottle episode.
- 27:12Speaker 3: I watched this. I watched this Thursday night, about an
- 27:21Speaker 3: hour before the show. I popped it back on. I
- 27:23Speaker 3: started watching it, and I got about five minutes. I
- 27:27Speaker 3: got through the retro, the retro and the old ship,
- 27:33Speaker 3: the retro credits at the beginning, Yes, thank you, I'm sorry,
- 27:39Speaker 3: and I was like, you know, I don't need to
- 27:40Speaker 3: watch this.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I already saw this.
- 27:43Speaker 3: I don't need to watch it.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I was gonna watch it, and then I decided, now, yeah.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Yeah, right. So we've done this a couple of times.
- 27:58Speaker 3: H did you hear me?
- 28:00Speaker 2: Or did cut go ahead?
- 28:03Speaker 3: I said, we've done this a couple of times. I
- 28:06Speaker 3: think we should do it again. Say one nice thing
- 28:09Speaker 3: about this episode.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Well, I was gonna say. On IMDb, this episode has
- 28:14Speaker 2: a six point seven rating out of ten it's not horrible. Yeah,
- 28:21Speaker 2: so it's it's not the best, but some of the
- 28:26Speaker 2: reviews are sigh. With only a ten season episode ten
- 28:30Speaker 2: episode season, this didn't help. Well yeah yeah, another one
- 28:37Speaker 2: on nine out of ten. They enjoyed the meta comedy,
- 28:41Speaker 2: comedy and like the sixties vibe, So okay.
- 28:45Speaker 1: It was meta. Yeah, I really enjoyed the the bloopers
- 28:51Speaker 1: at the end were Paul Wesley tries to do the
- 28:55Speaker 1: Riker maneuver. Yeah, yeah, that had me laughing. What do
- 29:02Speaker 1: you guys think about Scotty? I I really like Scotty.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I like him.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I like this guy.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you seem Lukewarre.
- 29:11Speaker 2: What was the excuse why Pelly wasn't there to help him?
- 29:14Speaker 1: Like, okay, I wanted to talk about I wanted to
- 29:17Speaker 1: talk about this. I think they are well. I think
- 29:21Speaker 1: it's obvious they're slowly trying to replace her with Scott,
- 29:27Speaker 1: and they're trying to do it in a way that
- 29:30Speaker 1: they don't have to explain it. Like, I don't know
- 29:33Speaker 1: if she's not well, she's going to be in future
- 29:35Speaker 1: episodes because she's in the episode where they all turned
- 29:37Speaker 1: into Valkans, so right, I don't know if she had
- 29:41Speaker 1: limited time to be in the series into the season
- 29:45Speaker 1: or what. But they're slowly I mean she because they
- 29:48Speaker 1: didn't even show her at all. They haven't showed her
- 29:51Speaker 1: in the last I think two episodes.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yeah, she was, well, she's got to be more expensive
- 29:56Speaker 2: than he as as an actor.
- 29:58Speaker 1: So probably, yeah, that's true.
- 30:01Speaker 2: That's probably what it is. Okay, we only get her
- 30:03Speaker 2: for six episodes and we get him for all ten.
- 30:06Speaker 1: So right, yeah, So so they're giving these little, you know,
- 30:10Speaker 1: sort of excuses of why mm hmm, and they even
- 30:13Speaker 1: call like even Number one called her, called him out
- 30:16Speaker 1: on it. He's he's like, where's the where's what's her face?
- 30:18Speaker 1: And he's like, oh, she's busy, uh, you know, doing
- 30:22Speaker 1: something else and sent me instead. And she's like, yeah, right,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I know, she doesn't want to be here. Like that
- 30:28Speaker 1: was kind of meta, Like I think they're explaining, yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: she's not here, the actress isn't here.
- 30:34Speaker 2: So the Trick reviewer says this episode is Stranger the
- 30:36Speaker 2: World's equivalent to the Big Goodbye from TG. I would
- 30:40Speaker 2: say it's not, even though yes, they're both detective ones.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I would say it's more equivalent to the Robin Hood
- 30:47Speaker 2: episode with Coopier and just.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Or the the robin Hood one wasn't wasn't a Yeah,
- 30:56Speaker 3: the robin Hood one was uh was c Q created that?
- 30:59Speaker 2: That was right, It wasn't a But I'm talking about
- 31:02Speaker 2: tonally just goofy and kind of weird, That's what.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'm Yeah, it was a mix between that and the
- 31:08Speaker 1: the Elementary episode.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Yeah, so we know they're unshackled from Cannon indeed the
- 31:20Speaker 3: whole temporal Cold War thing. But one thing that that
- 31:24Speaker 3: struck me, uh, rubbed me the wrong way is how
- 31:33Speaker 3: intuitive and interactive these holiday characters are. And we know
- 31:41Speaker 3: in the twenty fourth century when Riiker meets me, now
- 31:46Speaker 3: realistic and intuitive she is. So that kind of doesn't
- 31:52Speaker 3: doesn't add up. So they do that. But then at
- 31:56Speaker 3: the same time, when they show us the Holidack, it
- 31:59Speaker 3: looks like the TG Holodack. It doesn't look like a
- 32:04Speaker 3: Deep Space nine holiday. It doesn't for a voyager, it
- 32:07Speaker 3: doesn't look like a voyager all of that, because the
- 32:10Speaker 3: look just this was uh you know, this is specifically
- 32:15Speaker 3: a TG black background, yellow squares hollow that right.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Well, they're doing the whole room you remember the Holidays,
- 32:24Speaker 2: which was.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Kind of nice to see but yeah, yeah, yeah it was.
- 32:29Speaker 1: It was all right.
- 32:29Speaker 3: So one thing, one thing I did like good, I
- 32:35Speaker 3: was just.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Gonna say, like, you're right as far as like, you know,
- 32:39Speaker 1: all this computing power, and they couldn't get chat GBT
- 32:43Speaker 1: to create some realistic people that weren't based on the
- 32:47Speaker 1: transporter patterns of the crew, like they couldn't, you know,
- 32:52Speaker 1: but they were able to base. They were able to
- 32:54Speaker 1: give their voices and personality and close and all this,
- 32:57Speaker 1: but they couldn't just create new faces. I mean, I
- 33:00Speaker 1: could ask Chef d GBT right now to create the likeness,
- 33:04Speaker 1: to create not the likeness of a person, just create
- 33:07Speaker 1: a random person that doesn't look like anybody in particular,
- 33:09Speaker 1: and Jack would be able to do it.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah. It would have been funnier if they said, all right,
- 33:15Speaker 2: you know, uh, it can only use the transporter buffer.
- 33:19Speaker 2: But the problem is it can only use one person.
- 33:21Speaker 2: So it's that same actor playing all the characters.
- 33:25Speaker 1: You have. You'd have to get the guy who plays Tran,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you'd have to get Yeah, you have to get Jeffrey.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that would be funny if it's all the
- 33:37Speaker 2: same person doing the same all the rules, right, right.
- 33:41Speaker 3: So there was there was a little easter egg here.
- 33:44Speaker 3: That kind of solves a nitpick that people have had
- 33:50Speaker 3: over the years. Yeah, Spock in the past refer I
- 33:56Speaker 3: think it was in Star Trek six he said an
- 34:00Speaker 3: ancestor of mine said blah blah blah blah blah, and
- 34:03Speaker 3: he quoted Sherlock Holmes. And the nitpick is that Sherlock
- 34:07Speaker 3: Holmes is a fictional character. And I think one time
- 34:09Speaker 3: we talked about this on the show and I said, no, no, no,
- 34:12Speaker 3: he's probably referring to Sir Conan Doyle, who wrote Sherlock's Holmes,
- 34:16Speaker 3: because everything that Sherlock's Sherlock Holmes said, those are actually
- 34:20Speaker 3: the words of Sir Conan Doyle. And he yes, and
- 34:25Speaker 3: he specifically referred to Doyle as being his ancestor in
- 34:29Speaker 3: this episode, So that was nice to to clear that up.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I like these giant fake dogs. Those were cool.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Those are I have to say. Una looked absolutely stunning
- 34:42Speaker 1: in this episode. I loved her look or dress. She
- 34:46Speaker 1: looked very very cool.
- 34:51Speaker 2: You're gonna see a lot of people cosplayed as these
- 34:54Speaker 2: characters at conventions.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sure, yeah, I'm sure. Jess Bush used her
- 35:00Speaker 1: regular accent for her holiday character. Yeah, Yeah, that was neat.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, Yeah, always looks like he's up for something. Well.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and the Trek reviewer says, my only problem with
- 35:17Speaker 1: Scotty is that in t Us Scotty is the oldest
- 35:20Speaker 1: actor in character, and this guy seems to be one
- 35:22Speaker 1: of the youngest. Yeah, he does seem young on the
- 35:27Speaker 1: young ish side. I just think that I don't. I
- 35:31Speaker 1: think they're trying to play him like he doesn't have
- 35:33Speaker 1: a ton of experience. Like he's really smart, right, He's
- 35:36Speaker 1: an excellent, excellent engineer, he just doesn't have a ton
- 35:39Speaker 1: of the job experience.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Yeah. I fix for that is high consumption of alcohol
- 35:49Speaker 3: accelerates aging. So he will people come in right where
- 35:53Speaker 3: he's supposed to be for the five year mission.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Uh.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I feel like they had a lot of fun putting
- 36:08Speaker 2: this episode together, and I wish that had translated better
- 36:12Speaker 2: for the viewers.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Which they had had as they did.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I kept trying to think, like, what what
- 36:22Speaker 2: would I do to make the patient of this episode
- 36:25Speaker 2: a little bit faster? What what could you have done
- 36:28Speaker 2: to I don't know. The other thing, too, is like
- 36:31Speaker 2: what was the issue with the enterprise, Like there was
- 36:33Speaker 2: a some sort of starburst or something.
- 36:37Speaker 3: I don't even remember.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I don't remember they had had to observe a star
- 36:44Speaker 1: blowing up or something. And I don't even remember the
- 36:49Speaker 1: B storyline. Yeah, the A story they were the whole
- 36:54Speaker 1: thing was they were testing the holidays. Right, So, okay,
- 36:59Speaker 1: all kind of ruin a little bit of a story,
- 37:02Speaker 1: story structure and everything like that. But typically what you
- 37:04Speaker 1: want is in a show like this, you want your
- 37:07Speaker 1: A plot and your B plot to kind of mirror
- 37:09Speaker 1: each other so that they tie together better.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Right, So what probably would have worked better is if
- 37:17Speaker 2: because the the Halo Deck is this experimental program, there's
- 37:23Speaker 2: a key component that makes it work right, and so
- 37:26Speaker 2: somehow there's a spy on board, and they took that
- 37:30Speaker 2: component and that's why the Holo Deck is now glitching
- 37:32Speaker 2: out and they can't get a hold of lawn and
- 37:35Speaker 2: that's why she's in danger because now the safety protocols
- 37:38Speaker 2: are on. So while she's solving one mystery, the crew
- 37:42Speaker 2: is solving the other mystery. Who's the spy and we
- 37:44Speaker 2: have to get the component to fix it? Right? That
- 37:48Speaker 2: that would have mirrored a little bit better as to
- 37:50Speaker 2: what's going on and make it more a mystery overall
- 37:57Speaker 2: for everybody. Yeah, so just an idea.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I have to come to to Jonathan Frakes's defense here,
- 38:09Speaker 1: and I understand what Kevin's Kevin's Trek he is saying.
- 38:13Speaker 1: He says, I'm a bit disappointed in Freaks. He's usually
- 38:16Speaker 1: so good with making Trek. Yes, And I always defense.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I always said that, you know, he is what made
- 38:25Speaker 1: First Context so great, And a lot of people have
- 38:28Speaker 1: told me, well, he didn't write it, he didn't produce it,
- 38:31Speaker 1: he just directed it. I think directing a motion picture
- 38:36Speaker 1: you have much more control over what's going on than
- 38:39Speaker 1: directing an episode. They wrote this episode and then it
- 38:43Speaker 1: was just Franks's turn to direct, right, you know, And
- 38:47Speaker 1: so I do agree that he he could have done
- 38:51Speaker 1: something with the pacing. But I one of the things
- 38:55Speaker 1: about Jonathan Frakes directing these new episodes of Star Trek
- 38:59Speaker 1: is that they're so different and they they allow things
- 39:03Speaker 1: on this track that they never did in Next Generation
- 39:07Speaker 1: or or Voyager. They allow people to improvise here where
- 39:10Speaker 1: they didn't that was a no no back then. So
- 39:14Speaker 1: I just I think that this is less to do
- 39:18Speaker 1: with Freaks and more to do with the writers and
- 39:22Speaker 1: the editors. Yeah, because all the elements in this episode
- 39:28Speaker 1: I enjoyed, you know, the things that a director sort
- 39:31Speaker 1: of has control over, I enjoyed.
- 39:36Speaker 2: If they kept it the way it was, it would
- 39:38Speaker 2: have been better as like a thirty five minute episode. Yeah, ye,
- 39:42Speaker 2: cut out some of the fluff. Just get to the
- 39:44Speaker 2: point and let's do it.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Have more a story. Yeah, have more a story. So
- 39:53Speaker 1: I think that's the mistake they made.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Here, Dan, are you are you saying something?
- 40:06Speaker 1: I think he's just chilling.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Okay. So one of the things that that kind of
- 40:12Speaker 2: oh there he goes. No Kevin drinking. Okay, I'll forgive
- 40:18Speaker 2: breaks on a time.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Bask God, that's my boy, you know, Frank, my boy.
- 40:27Speaker 2: There is there's Dan.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Uh.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Were you gonna say something?
- 40:30Speaker 1: Dan?
- 40:30Speaker 3: Hey, can you hear me? Yeah? Yeah, I was gonna.
- 40:34Speaker 3: I was gonna ask ask, ask you guys a question
- 40:36Speaker 3: and then and then make a point regarding it. Do
- 40:41Speaker 3: we agree that in the story Lane likely had the
- 40:46Speaker 3: ability characters. She's handed a pad and there are some
- 40:51Speaker 3: faces there, but I'm assuming those were the transporter patterns
- 40:55Speaker 3: for the crew of the Enterprise and other people. People
- 41:00Speaker 3: who have used the transporter on the Enterprise in the
- 41:02Speaker 3: recent past, I e. Paul Wesley, Captain Kirk, Lieutenant Kirk.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Can we agree that you.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Do?
- 41:13Speaker 3: You likely had the ability to choose who she wanted?
- 41:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, for sure, Oh sure sure.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I think I wanted to. I wanted to reiterate that.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Jonathan Frakes, he's my boy.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, are you guys?
- 41:34Speaker 1: Yeah, we're here and you know at delay I think
- 41:38Speaker 1: a little bit, but what a U Yeah Trek reviewer.
- 41:41Speaker 1: I don't blame freaks. I blame the writers and producers
- 41:43Speaker 1: because they don't understand the material Star Trek is based on,
- 41:47Speaker 1: and they don't understand the material Startuk is based on,
- 41:49Speaker 1: and they want to push their own agenda. I don't
- 41:51Speaker 1: know if it's about an agenda they want to push.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I think they're trying to. They might be under pressure
- 41:57Speaker 1: from Paramount to make something popular, to make something the
- 42:00Speaker 1: fans like to make. Yeah, uh, you know, and fan
- 42:04Speaker 1: services are always yeah, fan service is always popular and
- 42:08Speaker 1: usually does well for you know, that kind of thing
- 42:10Speaker 1: for user ratings. Maybe not critical ratings, but I think
- 42:14Speaker 1: that's what it's more about. I mean, I don't think
- 42:17Speaker 1: there's a tender being pushed here with a holiday.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you know this episode two, they did the weird
- 42:25Speaker 2: thing where when she figures out that the safety protocols
- 42:28Speaker 2: are off, she says it as opposed to like she
- 42:30Speaker 2: accidentally gets hurt or something like that.
- 42:33Speaker 1: You know, Well, she did get hurt, like when the
- 42:36Speaker 1: chandelier fell. They're a little shart of glass did hit
- 42:39Speaker 1: her in the and she started bleeding, which I thought
- 42:42Speaker 1: was a poorly done special effect. It was obviously CG.
- 42:46Speaker 1: But uh yeah, so she did get a little bit
- 42:48Speaker 1: of an injury there.
- 42:49Speaker 3: Okay, was she really bleeding or was it a holographic injury?
- 42:54Speaker 1: Yeah, well it didn't to me, it didn't look real,
- 42:58Speaker 1: So I don't I don't know, that's what I'm saying.
- 43:00Speaker 3: I think, you know, we we come to find out that,
- 43:04Speaker 3: you know, the Halo deck is smarter than we think
- 43:06Speaker 3: it is. I'm wondering if that wasn't a real injury
- 43:09Speaker 3: it was a holographic.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Well, if if there was a holographic injury, that would
- 43:13Speaker 1: not be an indication that the safeties were broken.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, earlier.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I was. I was trying to make a point
- 43:23Speaker 3: that you know, Lon Lon could pick from anyone who's
- 43:27Speaker 3: used the transport on the Enterprise in the last year
- 43:31Speaker 3: to populate this program. And I understand that Paul Wesley
- 43:36Speaker 3: is under contract for X number of episodes as a
- 43:39Speaker 3: reoccurring character. But the storyline from last season she fell
- 43:44Speaker 3: in love with him or a version of him and
- 43:47Speaker 3: then lost him. Why would she then pick him to
- 43:55Speaker 3: appear in this hal of deck fantasy that her new
- 44:01Speaker 3: boyfriend is helping her program. It just doesn't.
- 44:04Speaker 1: It didn't. That's a good points at.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and if and if they were going to do that,
- 44:12Speaker 3: they don't even acknowledge that there's this past connection between
- 44:18Speaker 3: the two of them that they don't even acknowledge that
- 44:23Speaker 3: she could be looking at that character differently, And maybe
- 44:28Speaker 3: I think it would have It would have added if
- 44:30Speaker 3: there was some reason that he had to be in there,
- 44:33Speaker 3: if Scotty just picked the people and instead hands with
- 44:36Speaker 3: the pad and says, uh, these these people are gonna
- 44:39Speaker 3: pier us characters in this in this program because I
- 44:42Speaker 3: needed to get patterns from somewhere. And you see, yeah,
- 44:50Speaker 3: but you know, just a second of trepidation on her
- 45:00Speaker 3: again and then his character. You can see how uncomfortable
- 45:03Speaker 3: it is for Right and instead they just lost Right
- 45:06Speaker 3: over like it, like it never happened.
- 45:08Speaker 2: You could have done a bit to where everyone is
- 45:11Speaker 2: saying he's the killer, right, that Kirk is the killer,
- 45:15Speaker 2: the person he's playing, right, and you make it look
- 45:19Speaker 2: like he is so guilty, and even Spock is saying that,
- 45:22Speaker 2: and she can even be saying, hey, he wouldn't do
- 45:26Speaker 2: something like this and that to keep reminding her these
- 45:28Speaker 2: aren't the people, you know, these are fictional characters.
- 45:32Speaker 1: That's a really good idea. Yeah, that would have been
- 45:36Speaker 1: more compelling or.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Or or in fitting with the twist of the episode
- 45:43Speaker 3: if somehow somehow make the make the connection that the computer,
- 45:49Speaker 3: the computer had access to her personal logs, right, and
- 45:53Speaker 3: she has made it. She has made encrypted entries in
- 45:55Speaker 3: her personal logs about her experiences in this alternate timeline
- 46:00Speaker 3: with James T. Kirk.
- 46:02Speaker 1: And for that yeah, yeah, yeah, I like that too.
- 46:09Speaker 3: That reason the computer uses that uses that against her.
- 46:13Speaker 3: That could have been that could have been so much better.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Or okay, so you she the computer, the computer.
- 46:29Speaker 2: The computer computer.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Selects which path patterns it's going to use to populate
- 46:44Speaker 3: this program.
- 46:51Speaker 1: So she said that's not just me, right, no, no,
- 46:54Speaker 1: create okay, and the computer, the computer picks I'm gonna
- 46:58Speaker 1: put him in there, and that the pattern of her
- 47:00Speaker 1: current boyfriend. There, No, that makes sense. I see what
- 47:05Speaker 1: he's says, having the computer pick.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess we spending for a minute.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you're you're losing uses.
- 47:16Speaker 1: As a computer is cutting Dan off.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Yes, the computer does not want these infractions upon it.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Hey put this up on the screen, Kevin Streky, I
- 47:25Speaker 1: agree with him. The more suggestions Daniel has, the more
- 47:28Speaker 1: I really hope you become a writer on Star Trek.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Paramoun could really use your creative passion for Star Trek.
- 47:33Speaker 1: I wholeheartedly exact, I really really do so, Danny you back.
- 47:44Speaker 2: No, he just went he's gown.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, I think the computer is sick of
- 47:50Speaker 1: him talking.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Ship probably probably, uh we we did ask well, maybe
- 47:56Speaker 2: we should say that for feedback.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, we have any last thoughts about this episode?
- 48:04Speaker 2: Well, so next week is through the Lens of Time,
- 48:08Speaker 2: So okay, I don't know anything about it, but that's
- 48:12Speaker 2: next week's episode.
- 48:14Speaker 1: There is is maybe a time travel episode or we
- 48:17Speaker 1: just kind.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Of had one.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we just had kind of had one. So I
- 48:21Speaker 1: don't know what they're.
- 48:27Speaker 3: I know that's going on, and I don't know how
- 48:31Speaker 3: much of that came through. But the quick version was
- 48:33Speaker 3: they should have had her make the request of the
- 48:35Speaker 3: computer create a program that'll be difficult for me. The
- 48:38Speaker 3: computer has read her log, the computer knows about her,
- 48:41Speaker 3: her relationship with Fock, her relationship with Kirk, and because
- 48:46Speaker 3: of that, it puts both of them in the program.
- 48:48Speaker 3: That would have made so much more sense, would have
- 48:49Speaker 3: been such a better episode.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I liked it. I liked it.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Yeah it was. The episode was a good first draft.
- 48:58Speaker 2: There was fine tuning they needed to do, and it
- 49:00Speaker 2: would have been so much better. That's the thing, you know.
- 49:06Speaker 3: But uh, I need to set up. What I've been
- 49:16Speaker 3: doing here is just not working. Yeah, garbage, Sorry guys.
- 49:23Speaker 1: All right, well that's all right. Well, yeah, I've been
- 49:24Speaker 1: listening to the episodes to see if my setup has
- 49:27Speaker 1: been decent. I think it is so yeah. I don't
- 49:31Speaker 1: know how my audio is right now, but no, it.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Sounds fun to me. I figured out that my uh
- 49:37Speaker 2: my computer had been picking the wrong audio source for
- 49:39Speaker 2: me past couple episodes and that's why.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, because you sounded you sounded off?
- 49:47Speaker 2: Yeah great now, yeah, because now it's actually using my
- 49:50Speaker 2: mic as opposed to the computer bike is what it
- 49:52Speaker 2: was doing.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm actually gonna I'm actually gonna set up something
- 49:56Speaker 1: where I'm not using the headset uh for the microphone
- 49:59Speaker 1: because I want to get a better like so my
- 50:00Speaker 1: audio is a little bit better quality.
- 50:01Speaker 2: So I'm gonna set up a series of tin cans
- 50:04Speaker 2: and strings for all of us.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Just do that and you get them tight between Idaho,
- 50:10Speaker 1: Michigan and New York.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll just send Ravens to dispatch.
- 50:14Speaker 1: The Okay, that sounds good. That sounds good.
- 50:17Speaker 2: So all right, well let's let's get to uh listener feedback.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Listener feedback.
- 50:29Speaker 1: So to remind everybody, if you want to come onto
- 50:32Speaker 1: the show and and chit chat with us live, just
- 50:35Speaker 1: you go to our our YouTube feed and just tight
- 50:39Speaker 1: literally type an X into the chat and if you
- 50:43Speaker 1: do that, Daniel will send you a link so you
- 50:46Speaker 1: can come and actually talk live.
- 50:48Speaker 2: So well, I thought you were doing the phone number,
- 50:50Speaker 2: so I put that up.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and if you'd like to leave us a voicemail,
- 50:55Speaker 1: just call uh five seven zero six six one zero
- 50:58Speaker 1: zero zero one. So guys, if you just want to
- 51:01Speaker 1: just say how you felt about the episode, or you
- 51:03Speaker 1: just want to say hi or whatever, just to send us.
- 51:06Speaker 3: A voice zero one or zero zero I think zero zero.
- 51:13Speaker 1: One zero zero zero zero one, just say a bunch
- 51:17Speaker 1: of zeros and then one right right, call us the
- 51:22Speaker 1: sector zero zero one, that's right, and then uh yeah.
- 51:26Speaker 2: So we asked in our Facebook group, which you guys
- 51:30Speaker 2: can join. We'd love to have you there. In the
- 51:34Speaker 2: Facebook group, we asked people what do they think of
- 51:35Speaker 2: this episode, and overall people were like, it was slow
- 51:39Speaker 2: but fun. Let's see film marks is very disappointed with
- 51:44Speaker 2: the whole episode. Just in jail with me two and ten. Yeah,
- 51:51Speaker 2: hold on, I said, not a fan of Holo Deck episodes,
- 51:55Speaker 2: but the b plot was good, so yeah yeah, Mike
- 52:01Speaker 2: Medina said, I might have to watch again. Felt like
- 52:04Speaker 2: a dragged out too much.
- 52:06Speaker 1: So there you go, Yeah it did.
- 52:10Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, well we got Chasm was on the line,
- 52:15Speaker 2: so let me bring him on. Oh there he is,
- 52:18Speaker 2: he's in the gym.
- 52:20Speaker 5: Yeah wow, you guys.
- 52:23Speaker 2: Good what you mentioned over there?
- 52:25Speaker 1: What do you got like a hundred?
- 52:28Speaker 2: Okay, just turn out not nun Yeah okay, all right,
- 52:36Speaker 2: you'll you'll work your way up.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Yeah oh wait high reps?
- 52:41Speaker 5: Yeah hi right, yep, so got on.
- 52:46Speaker 1: You should have been like doing you should have been
- 52:47Speaker 1: doing something one hundred.
- 52:53Speaker 6: Yeah you guys didn't see there, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 6: yeah yeah.
- 53:06Speaker 1: The gym guy.
- 53:09Speaker 2: That's right, that's right.
- 53:13Speaker 5: The episode was costumes and wigs, so yeah, so there
- 53:20Speaker 5: was some really good quality wigs on this one.
- 53:24Speaker 1: There were some good quality wigs. I was glad to see,
- 53:27Speaker 1: Like hair was probably so it's like he was the
- 53:33Speaker 1: recognizable character of the whole episode.
- 53:35Speaker 3: That's some good air.
- 53:40Speaker 5: And I did kind of like the retro set from
- 53:43Speaker 5: the seventies riding me across between Doctor Who and uh,
- 53:46Speaker 5: Star Trek.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that that old set seemed like fun.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:52Speaker 5: Almost reminder, if they did Star Trek Continues or something
- 53:56Speaker 5: in the seventies, what would Star Trek look like? And
- 54:00Speaker 5: it probably would have looked similar to that before Star
- 54:02Speaker 5: Wars would have been this kind of ugly set, good
- 54:09Speaker 5: costumes and vibrant colors.
- 54:12Speaker 2: I guess for me, like the more you think about it,
- 54:15Speaker 2: more of my issue with it is if they wanted
- 54:18Speaker 2: to do a detective mystery, we did those before with
- 54:23Speaker 2: the card right what he was Dixon Hill, And if
- 54:26Speaker 2: they wanted to do this retro space thing, we did
- 54:30Speaker 2: that before in Voyager with Captain Proton. So both major
- 54:34Speaker 2: elements of this episode have been done before in Star Trek,
- 54:40Speaker 2: you know.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Just they combined them all.
- 54:44Speaker 2: So yeah, you could have done something else.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean they got the strange part of the
- 54:51Speaker 1: strange New worlds be in the world.
- 54:54Speaker 5: This is my question on the holidayck. I thought it
- 54:57Speaker 5: was the new technology in next Gen, right, Uh.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Well by then, well they sort of explained it away
- 55:07Speaker 1: and they they they invented the holidack. They want to
- 55:10Speaker 1: test it out. But the problem is it takes up
- 55:13Speaker 1: way too much computing power and the safety protocols don't work,
- 55:17Speaker 1: and they're like, we're going to mothball this. And so
- 55:20Speaker 1: I mean, I think Pike even says, just yea, wrap
- 55:23Speaker 1: it up, put it away, you know, mothball it junk,
- 55:26Speaker 1: you know, put in a box and store it in
- 55:28Speaker 1: the same Great is the last arc, and that's that's
- 55:32Speaker 1: where it's going to go for the next one hundred
- 55:34Speaker 1: years or eighty years. And so they just unboxed it
- 55:38Speaker 1: eighty years later.
- 55:40Speaker 5: So do you think they'll rebox it again here in
- 55:43Speaker 5: a couple seasons or next season.
- 55:46Speaker 1: They're hopefully they're going to learn from their mistake. And
- 55:50Speaker 1: not do it right.
- 55:52Speaker 3: That always happens.
- 55:53Speaker 1: They always learn Oh yeah, they always learned it.
- 55:56Speaker 3: I always. I always it's been off serious to shows
- 56:02Speaker 3: that anyway go ahead.
- 56:05Speaker 5: Well, when they do an episode like this, it's always
- 56:08Speaker 5: the bridge crew. It's always sit around the table and
- 56:11Speaker 5: hang out with them. There's nobody else on the ship.
- 56:14Speaker 5: It's just the you know, about seven primary characters.
- 56:18Speaker 2: And that's all, Oh my god. They could have done
- 56:22Speaker 2: just some random crewman that's the murder victim. He's wearing
- 56:25Speaker 2: a red shirt.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:29Speaker 5: I mean, if you're gonna go meta, go meta, Yeah,
- 56:32Speaker 5: just have fun, just have the random red shirt, you know.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Say yeah, and then just say he's the executive producer
- 56:39Speaker 2: or whatever it is.
- 56:40Speaker 3: You know.
- 56:42Speaker 1: That he's wordly a red bolo. Yeah.
- 56:49Speaker 5: But that that ship that Paul Wesley was flying was hilarious.
- 56:54Speaker 5: So the adventure, yeah, I kind of liked it. I
- 56:59Speaker 5: wonder what she thinks is like, this is this how
- 57:03Speaker 5: you think I act?
- 57:07Speaker 3: So I feel like the amount of times the Halo
- 57:14Speaker 3: deck has malfunctioned in start, I feel like this there
- 57:21Speaker 3: would have to be a protocol for that, Like if
- 57:25Speaker 3: you're stuck in a holideck, that's malfunctioning and they can't
- 57:29Speaker 3: get the door open. You know, let's equate it to
- 57:32Speaker 3: let's equate it to a fire. There's someone stuck in
- 57:34Speaker 3: a burning building. You call the fire department. They force
- 57:38Speaker 3: the door open, and then they go inside wearing protective
- 57:44Speaker 3: gear that protects them from fire. Why is there not
- 57:48Speaker 3: the equivalent of that for the halo deck. They force
- 57:52Speaker 3: the door open, and somebody wearing a suit that's not
- 57:56Speaker 3: affected by holographic matter can just walk from one end
- 57:59Speaker 3: of that them to the other unimpeded, and pick up
- 58:04Speaker 3: that person and carry them out.
- 58:07Speaker 1: And that's why you should be promoted to at a
- 58:09Speaker 1: commander and become a safety officer. Yeah well yeah, yeah, you.
- 58:17Speaker 2: Know, it's funny to me that, like she decides all
- 58:21Speaker 2: right to relax, I'm gonna do this murder mystery when
- 58:25Speaker 2: Voyager did it right and they were like, hey, if
- 58:27Speaker 2: we're gonna turn on this holiday, let's go to a
- 58:28Speaker 2: beach resort. Yeah, yeah, to France, or yeah, this thing
- 58:35Speaker 2: out at the bar, that's like.
- 58:37Speaker 5: Or you have the heros and take control and then
- 58:40Speaker 5: make you suffer through it, right right.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Yeah, they've definitely made the hollow technology way more trouble
- 58:51Speaker 1: than it's worth. It was real, they would have banned
- 58:55Speaker 1: the holid decks decades ago.
- 58:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Training like, that's it so trick.
- 59:04Speaker 2: I ever wants to know why not just transport them
- 59:05Speaker 2: out of the Holidack.
- 59:06Speaker 4: Uh.
- 59:07Speaker 2: They didn't give a reason. They never brought it up,
- 59:09Speaker 2: but I mean you could have easily just with the
- 59:10Speaker 2: premise of the show just said it's too much power
- 59:13Speaker 2: to operate the transporter and deal with whatever the enterprise
- 59:17Speaker 2: is dealing with and the holidays.
- 59:18Speaker 1: They're having computer issues too, so I would imagine in
- 59:21Speaker 1: order to use the transporters, your computer probably has to
- 59:23Speaker 1: be in pretty good helping Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:29Speaker 2: So I never understood why they couldn't just pull the plug, Like,
- 59:32Speaker 2: is there no metaphorical plug to just shut it off?
- 59:35Speaker 2: And then she's just standing in it.
- 59:36Speaker 1: They mentioned something, well, the holidacks having an independent power source.
- 59:41Speaker 1: They made a pretty big deal about mentioning.
- 59:44Speaker 7: That, but it wasn't I thought about I thought about
- 59:52Speaker 7: that a couple of times.
- 59:54Speaker 3: Why can't they just pull the plug in the holidack?
- 59:57Speaker 3: And the thing that I came up with is the
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: holographic stuff in there is solid, so imagine you're in
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: a room and everything is made of glass, and suddenly
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: everything in that room explodes. And now.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: By tractor beams and force fields. Well, like you said,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: everything's made of glass and everything explodes.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: I'm just saying all those force fields that are in there.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: That's holding everything up. I guess you're on a door
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: like that. If you're a flower like that, you can't
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: when it normally shuts down. It takes the time to
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: disassemble everything that's been replicated. If you just cut the power,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: everything has been replicated as falls or just disappears. You know,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: it doesn't just disappear, So that could create a danger too.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: They should do that with some Red Shirts and just
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: kill them all and just show like what happens.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: What happens. They should have a holow deck safety training video.
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Well, they ought to have like a stinger episode like
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: at the beginning, like something horrible happens on the holiday
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: with some Red Shirts, right, you see them all like
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: fall and explode in there. Then they got to solve
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: the mystery how to fix the holiday.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: They should have Scottie make a holidack safety training video. Yeah,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: you know where before you use the holidack you have
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: to go through the you know, a holida graphic version
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: of Scotty comes up and says, you know, hello, you've
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: decided to use a holidack. Here's a few safety protocol
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: things you should know.
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: Do you think it should be?
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: It shouldn't be Scotty. It should be the hometown buffet
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: guy where he's like hot out there.
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: Well he's slicing a brisket, all right, what about them
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: sooners ha ha.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: Alright, guys, I got company coming at one gold.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Lawn, so it's okay, sounds good.
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: Yesterday, Hey, can I ask you guys about Fantastic four? Okay,
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: since you know everybody's seen it.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Now, spoilers if you haven't, guys, Okay, yeah, boiler alert
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: for Fantastic for What.
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: Did you guys think? I mean that to transport a
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: planet and.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Everything was, Yeah, that was the big far fetch thing.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Where were they going to transport it to.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Some other galaxy where they would was it.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Going to be a rogue planet without a stun where everybody.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: They said they were within a habitable zone of an.
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: And somehow they're going to transport our moon too?
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I think, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: I means to answer this question.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll put it a question to start.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: I'm sure he's had several, probably thousands.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Right now.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: I saw some like comic book YouTuber that I that
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: I watch talk about this and he said that is
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: very much a read. Richard's thing to do is well,
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: we just got to move the whole planet. We'll just
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: do that, when the real answer was like, well we
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: could just move Galactis.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, change the gravitational consonant of the universe,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: cross the room.
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: I think I can warp the whole planet.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Now that's right, Yeah, like that that kind of like
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: that makes sense to me, Like, yeah, you ever thought it?
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: But maybe in universe, maybe in in universe eight three eight,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: that's that sort of thing is possible.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Well, it makes sense when like that's the danger. We
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: need to run away from the danger, as opposed to
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: let's make the danger run away from us.
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: Well you sure as he'll know that when work on our.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Earth, well yeah, the most really everybody working together, Yeah yeah, nope,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: wouldn't happen.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: No, it would not happen.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Even happen even if the Aliens came down and said,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: look we have a solution for you. This is how
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: it's going to be and we'll save your entire planet.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: We've already done it ten dozen times before. It worked out. Great,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: you gotta work together. It's it's it's gonna take a
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: little bit of resources, but it won't be devastating for
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: your economies worldwide. Everybody, everybody would fake news, no reason,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: fake news.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we just I don't believe in these aliens
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: and c g.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I they're just trying to push their alien agenda.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: That's right, that's right. Who are they to say, yeah,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: scree you guys, that's right, that's right.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Fox News would hate them, CNN would hate them, everybody
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: would be able to agree to. The left would hate it.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Would really they just.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Fell from this guy and they're supposed to help us out.
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: Some big aliens going to eat your planet.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Like, yeah, they don't know what it means to be human. Yeah,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: all of that, all of it.
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, there there was a little plot hole for
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: me on there.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: I was like.
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: My wife looked at me, She's like, they're gonna made
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: the planet. I'm like, yeah, so that's kind of stupid.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I just wanted to see a Donald Trump it
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: inserted into that movie. We go on, Yeah, I would.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Like to see somebody that I don't want to do
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: it at all.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: Well, you got to have like a you know, some
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: incompetent leader that would be fighting back, and that's.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Probably the planet transporters of anybody's the fact.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: We had an incompetent later we had more man. He
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: was hey, yeah.
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: It was nice to let everybody go under Earth.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Right, Subterrania.
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: I did, like, yeah, I would like to see the
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: whole movie, because I know about forty minutes was edited out. Yeah,
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: and you could tell that, you know, there's probably more
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: scenes with Moleman and.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Oh really well Blu Ray.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because maybe they'll maybe they'll do the uh
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: what was his name, John.
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: Malkovich, because John Malkovich got completely written now in the
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: maybe he's control those orangu tangs.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: Oh he was in it. I didn't realize.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah he was in it.
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: He was in yeah, yeah, like whole scenes like completely right. Yeah,
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: because they're trying to make them shorter, because they're going
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: over to two hours forty minutes, and you get more
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: screen time if you have shorter movies about two hours
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: ten minutes.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: Okay, Well, in the people aren't going to the theater
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: because they're like, I don't want to spend three hours
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: in the theater. So they're like, okay, we can get
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: them shorter. That's more viewings every day, and uh so
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: theoretically they can make more money and people will theoretically go.
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's Oberg and Lucas had that method back
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: in the day and that's why did so popular. Yeah,
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: and then since digital, you know, said a film you
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: have digital, they can record as much as they want
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: and they don't edit as you know, like they should edit, right,
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: something's going on too long.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Well, that that's what Marvel does, right, Like they it's
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: not that they don't have finished scripts when they start shooting,
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: it's that they get new ideas as they're shooting and
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: then like, oh now we're gonna change this, and that
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: changes the whole.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: It's a domenot and it blomes that budget to.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Yeah, oh big time, big time.
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: And I mean the hell this next of inter movies
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: probably gonna be way up there.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: With the actors, well, they asked Rebecca Remain like, oh,
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: how much are you going to be in the movie
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: or something like that, and uh and she was like yeah,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: I don't know, just kind of depends. They can call
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: me back if they want to, but.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: You can put on that blue makeup, do all that
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: and yeah, completely cut.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: So that would suck.
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean hopefully maybe the CG at Honor because
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: they might have better technology.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: I mean, if you notice, I'm not getting Jennifer Lawrence
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: back in there at least.
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: No, well, yeah, she's got her oscars, so she don't care.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Well, you know, she may not want to go into
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: the makeup again.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: No, yeah, yeah, that could be.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: She might say, if you let me just walk on
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: there as Jennifer Lawrence, sure.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: Right, yeah yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: It's like, yeah, I'll be joining them for Lawrence, but
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: I'm not going to be a mystique, so yeah.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Yeah right, or I'll be raving, you know, yeah whatever,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: you know, you know, if they wanted to do like
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: a CG. You know, I get it. She doesn't need
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: the money to do it. And from what she said
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: that the makeup process is horrible.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so I don't blame her, No, not at all,
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: not at all. I saw a thing too with Chelsea
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Grammar was like when they asked him to be Beast
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: and the Marvels Man, he was like, yeah, he'll do it,
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: but he was like, yeah, I was dreading and doing
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: the makeup and then they told him, no, it's all
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: c g I it's fine.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: How anything exciting? And he was great stoked about that.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's.
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: A perfect beast something, has a perfect voice everything.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: He's got the perfect voice for beast.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Great. Great, Yeah that was some good casting.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: That wasn't That was just like, yeah, of course he's beast, right.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: What's kind of like?
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: Patrick Stewart was born play Xavier?
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: You're kind of well? And James James Marsters is that
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: his name? Marsden is playing Cyclops, an underrated, underrated actor
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: and an underrated character in the X Men franchise.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Did you ever see his show? He was on on
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: uh the Jury Duty show.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I need to watch, I hear I heard about it.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: But it's hilarious. It is it's a fake reality show.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: It's all just a gaget against one dude, but it
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: is so good.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: This one guy doesn't really he's in on the the
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: gag that it's a fake trial. Yeah, it's fake Jerry everything.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: He just thinks he's on a on a jury with
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: James Barsden.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Okay, just think this.
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: Poor guys wake it up every morning, like, man, I
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: gotta wake up.
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: And yeah, yeah, it's great. It's it's such a funny show.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: It's such a funny show. Excited to see Tom Holland
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: back at Spider Man and brand new day tessers shot
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: of the back to Basics uniform. Yeah, I did see that.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Uniform looks great. That was actually before we started with
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: the episode. Today. I saw a clip from from filming
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: and he walked over to a bunch of fans watching
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: the filming and he's all in uniform and he's you know,
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: he's got the whole thing on and he's he's all
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: waving and everybody and they're like, oh, well he signed this,
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: and he's like, I can't the gloves. They it'll ruin
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: the gloves with the with the ink. Sorry.
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'm ready for this movie. So yeah, because
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: the last Spider Man movie was fun and yeah that's
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: what I think, you know, and plus you'll introduce probably.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: I can't wait for him to get his crypto. Yeah,
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: they're all gonna get cryptos at this point.
