- 0:00Apollo and welcome back to the retail podcast here at shop
- 0:03talk. We're very privileged.
- 0:06We're here with one of the shoptalk speakers.
- 0:08Emma is the CEO co-founder of list, what in tennis and maybe
- 0:13start off with what list is what you guys have.
- 0:16It was long and then maybe what you're talking about.
- 0:18Yeah. Okay, so list of the global
- 0:20fashion shopping platform. So app website, we connect
- 0:24Millions 200 million Shoppers. We came out all of the world's
- 0:28leading fashion Turner's and Brands.
- 0:30So everything from your European Luxury, 10 brands to your beauty
- 0:34is your master plans and Water by retailers.
- 0:37So we have everything, we have nine million SQ use and we had
- 0:40hold the amateur ourselves. We are aware our platform so
- 0:43it's data and Technologies of drives the business.
- 0:46So we are very good at connecting customers with those
- 0:50partners and then hustle partners that our customers can
- 0:52shop all of the houses, the business, I love, you know,
- 0:54you've been going. So even going for 12 years and I
- 0:57should not have cut well under the K5.
- 0:59I join me. Tiny, because they are handling
- 1:0110 years ago. So, it's going to be upset,
- 1:03Echo, based, and butter than promote digital.
- 1:05Oh, no. It's very new.
- 1:06Very kind about Gloria, that co-founder.
- 1:09But I do read ten years ago over.
- 1:11So we're tent IT company, but wine first year as a CEO.
- 1:13I so I worked very closely with the Honda and former CEO and
- 1:17then we transitioned to my taking over plus.
- 1:21So just as a just expand that because obviously you said you
- 1:23were rots of whereabouts and then kit isn't this space,
- 1:26there's it I millennials. Sweet.
- 1:30Yeah, it's actually we could put things that such a great big.
- 1:33Scales are 200 million to most a millennium and Jen said, but
- 1:37actually actually because what we do is we match audiences with
- 1:42with the items that they want to buy, is we actually Sacramento
- 1:45pulse. So that's quite did too.
- 1:47Yeah, it's always a threat did demon with eight points.
- 1:49A wow, 15 make bitumen in. They twins just from your own
- 1:53platform will from the world in like the, who online World
- 1:58different on our platform for Nia.
- 2:00Yeah. Or and so in terms of come to
- 2:02shop, talk traveling here today, what are you talkin about
- 2:05tomorrow? So tomorrow I'm going to talk
- 2:07about how data is at the ventral curve, our retail journey and
- 2:11how in driving the next wave. Even Nation at this, through
- 2:14data transformation. Having said that we've dated of
- 2:18DNA, or it has been, it's all about taking those like deep
- 2:22historical roots in Dayton, technology and saying, what's
- 2:25next to us? Okay.
- 2:26How do you see the impact on there, too?
- 2:28And tons of first specifically around, And the Technologies or
- 2:31Ai and everything's coming around.
- 2:33How are you guys working? Looks okay.
- 2:35I don't think it's so interesting.
- 2:36We've been working with AI for a long time anyway, but obviously
- 2:39this new wave is like something. None of us have seen before, and
- 2:42I think lots of people are It's quite a more for us.
- 2:46I think it's quite hard for people to get crisp about what
- 2:48how this new world is going to be, and how it's going to work
- 2:51for their businesses. For also, see it in a couple of
- 2:53ways, the first is both very big on search, right to the idea.
- 2:57And this is that you're looking for a particular item.
- 2:59We got idea. I want no nice sweater Autumn or
- 3:02whatever, we we, you love contacts, around that search.
- 3:07And I think I can do to make that search much much richer
- 3:12richer or so. If you're thinking about, I
- 3:16never touched that girl, addresses the pump text search,
- 3:20as we know what that is. Yeah, but a, I can actually made
- 3:24that Theta richer set of cuffs, with looking for a gala dress,
- 3:27she a is saying, think long think, you know, high-quality
- 3:31Fabrics, think even more. So, use machine learning models.
- 3:35They try it, they turned out all of our product catalog with
- 3:38suitable product catalog. We have.
- 3:40So, we're doing recommended products.
- 3:42It's so if you look at, Something.
- 3:44Yeah, and we'll show you recommendations of a similar to
- 3:47that and it will include image search but it will also include
- 3:50the other metadata has a thicker sauce.
- 3:53Rake of this. Toughen, be quite difficult to
- 3:56prove to called, do better than once, you've done it, but I must
- 3:59have lots of different. Yeah, and use cases.
- 4:01Yes. What?
- 4:02One of the wild things that we offer customers, I think to
- 4:04really interesting is we merge products.
- 4:08So there's a particular Gucci bag say that you love we should
- 4:12have it from everywhere around the web that sells I mean, they
- 4:16say thank you sweatshirt. Let's compile it for me is
- 4:19always Bruins house, can tell, just by looking by come on,
- 4:23that's how you did. It starts really with you would
- 4:26like these guys did we have it from ever around the world?
- 4:29But you but solve it. We can merge into one product
- 4:34cars, so we can see the image. And then you can see where it's
- 4:37sold with different prices, where it's being shipped from
- 4:40and that just helps custom make much better decision.
- 4:43Yeah, much more. A fuller picture decision.
- 4:45So we're using data to do that but that's all done through
- 4:47machine learning. And so bringing you back to to
- 4:50all the folks are not going to be able to be in the room
- 4:52tomorrow to see you. Took what's the big takeaways
- 4:55that you're going to leave the audience with this will probably
- 4:57go out of steel tour. Okay?
- 4:59So that's why we never know, slow is a rose, but what would
- 5:02be the big takeaways for you? Um, I think the big takeaways
- 5:06are how to get really smart other organization with data and
- 5:12we have so much we process. So, So we actually put a lot of
- 5:15effort into how do you make good decisions?
- 5:20What's the right amount of data for the right thing?
- 5:22You're doing next so partly that's something only
- 5:24organization fun what would in customers.
- 5:27So the new changes where we've been rebuilding redeveloping,
- 5:32all of our recommendation, algorithms really breaking them
- 5:34down and say what is it that customers really want?
- 5:38And how can we use the tactic or any fuel of much better
- 5:41experience for them? And then I'll our partner site
- 5:43because we Partner with all of his amazing fashion brands and
- 5:46retailers, we already provide them, lots of Rich insights to
- 5:49help them grow their businesses and the next level for that.
- 5:52So, you know, an example might be, I'm a high-end, she
- 5:58retainer, and I want to grow in the US and then we can look and
- 6:02say, you know what, we think you should be doing better for that
- 6:05category in this city, got you? So obviously, they don't work,
- 6:08she type baits. George fish.
- 6:10Exactly. Exactly.
- 6:12And how we've been using to for all That segmentation, which are
- 6:16incredible. But it seemed a scientists have
- 6:19built with amazing platform for segmentation as should power.
- 6:22All of the things that we basically just want to get much
- 6:25better. Yeah, matching Shoppers with the
- 6:28right items, helping them to make better choices and then
- 6:31helping the partners to just find better audiences for them.
- 6:35And they have no leader within retail and Technology.
- 6:38I'm always looking for, you know, what lessons, power you've
- 6:43got here. What can we teach the the sort
- 6:46of future and upcoming Emma's and the world, and the
- 6:49challenges? And and it's so I'm just
- 6:52curious. Did you sent out in life to say,
- 6:54you know what, want to turn? I'm going to be whatever.
- 6:56I'm going to be a CEO fan. How did you get to this?
- 7:00How do I get here? Is a really good question.
- 7:02Also, very flattered that the Next Generation because I still
- 7:04feel like I'm still growing and learning every day.
- 7:08I was actually lawyer before. I did this, I definitely wanted
- 7:11to work in in business and I have a passion for the category
- 7:13but I Biggest things for me is like, are you learning and all
- 7:19the people around you who can help you learn?
- 7:21Yeah, and in my journey, this from like very, very small
- 7:24start-up the much later stage business that it is.
- 7:27Now I've done so many new things, I feel like I've had in
- 7:31the 10 years and maybe had six or seven different jobs.
- 7:34Yeah. And part of that is saying like,
- 7:36if you really care about what you're doing and you've got, you
- 7:39know, prepared to work hard and you had to work with other
- 7:42people. Yeah.
- 7:43As you You can learn. So a lot of things hot made a
- 7:46science. Haven't hello to do that.
- 7:48She tried, I've done, I've wore all sorts of hats and I've not
- 7:50things that I never thought I could do and I've yelled and the
- 7:53way I didn't have a finance background, but I've really
- 7:56develop those skills should by diving in and doing it.
- 8:00And then getting who really good support.
- 8:02And we were outraged that if I was just going to be sort of how
- 8:05much of that was attracted by the fact that being a girl.
- 8:08Haven't you? That was that like, you didn't
- 8:09scold? You will girls don't do this or
- 8:11or they don't work in Tech or they can't worry little bit
- 8:13better than that. I'm just curious.
- 8:15Was there any of that when you were going first?
- 8:17Definitely, I think mostly for me, though.
- 8:21When I say, just try it and then we'll get that, that's
- 8:24definitely an aunt in hindsight thing, I think the not having
- 8:27the confidence to assume that you can do things, yes, of
- 8:32trying it anyway. And I wonder if there might be,
- 8:35it might be easy for man. I don't know that, you know, not
- 8:37a man, but I'm one of my be easy to jump in with war.
- 8:41That confidence Shay. What I can do all of these safe
- 8:44as I sort of feel. I've proved it in hindsight.
- 8:46Yeah but at the time it felt scarier and there's a lot of A
- 8:50doubt that every step of that Journey, then amazing
- 8:54realization when you can do them like when you've achieved things
- 8:57or luck things. And grown to say that I can
- 8:59defeat. Yeah, tell her, I think I may
- 9:02know the answer if you were, if you were able to go back to the
- 9:05younger you for and to help the young, you expedite, the
- 9:09journey, you know, with hindsight because you said,
- 9:11that's a really interesting white.
- 9:12There's so many things in hindsight but that we know what
- 9:15she would be like the two or three things that you would land
- 9:18on on saying the younger Anna. In that just do this and that
- 9:22will take years months or fuel career but are the journey I
- 9:26guess I'd say look at it attitude and aptitude you can do
- 9:32a lot more than you might think you need experience for, don't
- 9:36you? So I would say like if you're
- 9:37prepared to work hard, if you're smart, just keep pushing through
- 9:41but it will get over those barriers pasta.
- 9:44Yeah and then I'd say like beer don't worry about getting small
- 9:48things roll on looking stupid of a Jane the years are much
- 9:51quieter meeting, some it wasn't in the matter in the last few
- 9:55years because, you know, I didn't want to Mornington book
- 10:00start. If I had something to say and
- 10:02then you realize actually asking her to understand that could
- 10:05explain that to me. So often that opens up a better,
- 10:08quality of conversation for everyone around the table.
- 10:10So maybe it's about holding back who that's why I'm trying to say
- 10:13is like, don't hold back because actually even with a little bit
- 10:17of broken things or things not quite right yet to move forward,
- 10:19much faster. Yeah.
- 10:20I think that's a very, very good advice, and I probably eat that
- 10:24now. And I don't think it's probably
- 10:25something that irrespective of whatever age.
- 10:28You always got that, mental that are going on holding you back
- 10:31and it's like, our come on, you'll never have the right
- 10:33side. Where can people find more about
- 10:35links where you obvious? It's list.com.
- 10:38Yeah. And it's a couple do not
- 10:39download our app lets you get the richest experience on the
- 10:42app Ys L Ys T that is right. Yeah very hip and young.
- 10:47Thank you, thank you so much. Follow my salary.
