Transcript
- 0:00My name is Carlton from the band Orgy Jay will be joining shortly. We're
- 0:04gonna be coming to Australia in October and for shows in Melbourne. Right,
- 0:11that's for a show, is my friend. Thanks very much for joining us
- 0:15today, Canton. Yeah, thanks for having us agree. So Augie hit
- 0:20Australia in October for the first time ever for three shows, starting in Melbourne
- 0:25and October twenty fifth, before hitting Melbourne the following night, sorry, Sydney
- 0:29the following night, in Brisbane the night after. Like, so that's the
- 0:31biggest question, mate, it's why if you neglected us for so long?
- 0:36You know your guess is as good as mine. It's I mean, like
- 0:41I was telling you earlier, I've been there with another band and it's amazing.
- 0:45It's had a great time, amazing people, shows were great. So
- 0:49I guess better late than ever for Orgie to get there. But we're totally
- 0:53excited and it's gonna be fun. We just finished a two month run with
- 0:57Cold Who's gonna be with us there as well, and it's a really great
- 1:00package. It's a good show and it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 1:03And let's face a Brella, you can never really be late for an orgy?
- 1:07Can You probably could until the next day. Is playing bad news?
- 1:15That's play bad news, showup on time. Really, this doesn't apply so
- 1:21much to you, mate, because you've been here before. But there's not
- 1:23many places, he says, that you guys wouldn't have been. So when
- 1:26you come and play at a place like Australia for the first time, you
- 1:30do research, right, you talk to own the bands and find out what
- 1:32to expect, what the crowds are like and stuff. Or you're just coming
- 1:34cold and see what happens. Yeah, sorry you dropped out. I didn't
- 1:42hear I said. So you do the research and ask fans that have been
- 1:47here before what it's like and what do we expect, or you're just coming
- 1:49cold and take it as it comes. It's just yeah, you just just
- 1:56show up and go for it. It's I mean, when I was there
- 1:59before, everyone was just really amazing people. Everyone seems really just cool and
- 2:05wants to hang out and have fun and have a good time. It shows
- 2:07and it's it's just a great atmosphere. The flip side of that equation is
- 2:14that peop by here, I know, what do we expect from you?
- 2:16Either side us saying on what do we expect from Algie Live in twenty twenty
- 2:20four, Well, I mean we're gonna do it well, you mean,
- 2:27like as far as like the set list and stuff, you know, like
- 2:29the show, like is it dynamic? Is John rand Lot is? Yeah,
- 2:34Yeah, we got a lot of energy we bring it. It's it's
- 2:37probably a little heavier live than than what it sounds like on the record.
- 2:42You know, this was like the twenty fifth anniversary of the first record,
- 2:45candy As, So we're doing a larger dose of does We're doing like half
- 2:50the set is probably songs from that record from candy As, and then there's
- 2:53a handful of songs from the second record, Vapor Transmissions, And then there's
- 2:57a handful of newer songs, like even songs that you know, you guys
- 3:01might not have heard yet. So it's it's kind of a good cross section
- 3:05of our the whole history of the songs from the band. You're not actually
- 3:10playing Cayos in full from front to beck, No, No, not doing
- 3:15that, but we're doing you know, probably like at least half the songs
- 3:17from that. When you're sort of prepared to do the run of shows in
- 3:23bro, I guess you would have to revisit some of the tracks from that
- 3:27album that you hadn't played for a while. So did they still resonate with
- 3:30you as much now as what they did? I mean, you know,
- 3:35I wasn't in the band when that record came out, so it's probably more
- 3:38of a question for Jay. Yeah. I mean, I I've known them.
- 3:44I've known Jay in the band since that era, since then, and
- 3:49uh, but I just wasn't part of writing those songs. I wasn't on
- 3:53that But I've been playing with them now for over twelve years, but it's
- 3:59still always fun to play them, which I just joined at the right time.
- 4:01So you can answer that one, right, right, right. So,
- 4:04so as far as making the first record, we took a brand new
- 4:09one hundred thousand dollars you know, two inch take machine with us up to
- 4:15a snow capped mountain in north shore of Lake Tahoe, and uh, you
- 4:19know, and and you know, like the first version of like you know
- 4:24pro tools, like you know, four editing tracks or two editing tracks or
- 4:28something like that, and uh, that's what we used to track the first
- 4:32record. Run you're preparing for the store my life there would have been a
- 4:38few songs that you would have to go back and relearn or revisit I guess
- 4:41for the first time in the wall. So did I still resonate with you
- 4:44now learning them again as much as what they did when you first write them
- 4:46twenty five years again. You know, there's there's There's definitely gonna be some
- 4:50that we're going to learn specifically for this Australian run, because I think we
- 4:57should, you know, we should just do a longer set since never played
- 5:00there before and I think it would be cool, uh, you know,
- 5:02to flex a little bit of everything material wise. Plus we I don't know
- 5:05if Carlton told you what, we just signed a two songs deal with Golden
- 5:10Robot down there. I congratulations, yeah, so so so it's an Australian
- 5:15label. We're doing two songs with them, and you know, since we're
- 5:19coming there, you know, in November or whatever, I want to make
- 5:23sure that we get those out and that we could play those songs as well.
- 5:27So we're going to play a lot of new stuff, a lot of
- 5:28old stuff. We're learning, you know, we'll be learning a bunch of
- 5:32stuff. And it is weird sometimes when you haven't played a song like Platinum,
- 5:36let's say, for a while, and then you like pick it up
- 5:39and you're just like, uh, fuck, I forgot all the lyrics for
- 5:41this song, you know. And then and then you're like, did I
- 5:44really make my voice sound like this during that time? Like there's like a
- 5:46really crazy breakdown that song, and it sounds like, you know, it
- 5:49just sounds like a little strange and that and that breakdown, and it's like
- 5:53when I do it now, it just makes me laugh, Like, you
- 5:55know, I don't know, it's funny people keep asking me for that song.
- 5:58So I feel like Platinum should be one of the ones we play in
- 6:02Australia. So we were probably gonna learn that one and you know, just
- 6:05some others random, like we might just switch it up, you know.
- 6:11Very cool. When I go back to the beginning of the band, mate,
- 6:14like you started Orgy and now I'm back in ninety ninety seven, So
- 6:16what was the musical climb, like my birthed the band back then? Where
- 6:19did you fit in in the joy? Well? I mean, you know,
- 6:23I had my own vision as far as like what I wanted it to
- 6:26be like, and uh, you know, I kind of stuck with that,
- 6:29but uh, you know, like it had the elements of the heavy
- 6:30stuff, and uh, you know, the name Orgy was really just like
- 6:34a musical based situation where I wanted to, you know, fuse all these
- 6:40styles because that's just the way my brain thinks. It's so adhd like,
- 6:44you know, I can't really do it another way. So that's where the
- 6:46name came from and everything. And but you know, I was really good
- 6:49friends with Corn at the time, so you know you're going to hear those
- 6:53like little you know, the influences from those guys. You know, it
- 6:56was a lot of rage against the machine going on, which I you know,
- 6:58I loved all that stuff. And I can't like just stick to a
- 7:00genre. So you tell me to stay in the lane, I'm just gonna
- 7:02tell you watch out because you know, you know what I mean, move
- 7:06over, I don't know, or or you know, run into me.
- 7:10I don't know, like you know what I'm saying, Like, I can't
- 7:13stick to a lean if you if my life depended on it. So it's
- 7:15like, oh, well, you know, so I just don't really you
- 7:18know, I like to move around, you know what I mean. So
- 7:23just a lot of different styles and there was just a lot of a lot
- 7:26of testosterone going on back then, and we were just kind of like,
- 7:30you know, trying to do something different look wise, you know what I
- 7:32mean. And so I think we uh set out a little bit of a
- 7:35precedence in that area, and you know, we had our own little look
- 7:39going and then a lot of people just kind of jumped on that bandwagon,
- 7:42you know, and uh, and I love it and it's making resurgence,
- 7:45So no complaints. It's tough mentioned on Jonathan Dives man, like, I'm
- 7:49probably sick of answering this, but I want to hear it from your mouth
- 7:53because it'll have more substance. But hasn't that he actually he was that excited
- 7:58about the bandy Creative Design label and wanted to sign you and fund the album
- 8:01sight. Yeah. I mean they may have had aspirations to uh to do
- 8:05a label anyway, but but that's that that was that was a way for
- 8:09them to sign it and get it done, uh, you know, to
- 8:15probably do both, you know what I mean. I'm sure they had like
- 8:16an idea, like I think everybody wants to start their own label at some
- 8:20point. So I can't say it like we were the sole reason that you
- 8:22know, he wanted to do that, but like he definitely perpetuated it,
- 8:26and you know, like like like fueled the fire to get it, to
- 8:30get it stepped up so that we could do it. And uh that's what
- 8:33they did. You're coming out of here with Cold who are also thrown astray
- 8:37for the first time ever. Like I've had a few shows in them overseas,
- 8:41But why why did they been so well with you guys? I mean
- 8:46I think it's uh, you know, they're actually like it's actually hold on
- 8:52sorry, Uh yeah, they're actually like, you know, not necessarily,
- 8:56it's not like a fit thing. I think it's just we're just cool with
- 9:00each other. And uh, you know, it works because you know,
- 9:03it's it's not like, you know, to really heavily connected fan bases,
- 9:07but they are from the same era and there's fans like both bands, so
- 9:11that works out good for both. So yeah, so it works out.
- 9:15But but yeah, they're really cool people and we get along with them great.
- 9:18So we're going to keep that. We're going to keep keep that running,
- 9:22you know if we can. Right Coxs, this is your first time.
- 9:24I was like, yeah, you're a little bit nervous so I just
- 9:28for the fact that you don't know how much of a fan base your body
- 9:31or or how how people going to react because you haven't done it before.
- 9:33Like I mean, it's definitely like you know, it's like I have no
- 9:37idea what to expect, so it's it's kind of strange. But you know,
- 9:39no, I'm not nervous. I think it's gonna work out good.
- 9:43And I think if you know, the promotion is there, and I think
- 9:46if people are excited enough, you know, the push will be there and
- 9:48the people will be there. Right, boys all, thanks very much for
- 9:52you Tom that I'd read a pleasure learning some actual stuff about you. Guys.
- 9:56Thank you. But Straw is in October. Kicks off on twenty fifth
- 10:00in Melbourne, twenty sixth in Sydney and twenty seventh in Brisbane, so there's
- 10:03still some biggers left, so get out and get some and welcome to the
- 10:07Boys to Australia. Thank you, man, I really appreciate you. Thanks
- 10:11for having us and hope to see at the shows.
