- 0:00Get laced up! Let's go! It's time for Banter
- 0:04with the Boys! Welcome back to Banter with the
- 0:16Boys Gridiron Updates. We are here for the NFC
- 0:19North Preview 2025 -26 Preview. Of course, as
- 0:25you see, we already know who's winning. The NFC
- 0:29North this year, other than for me, actually.
- 0:33But Skull Vikes. Yeah, buddy. Skull Vikes. We'll
- 0:35get into why I'm saying this nonsense, but whatever.
- 0:39Welcome back, Rob, with your skull glasses. It's
- 0:43so shiny of our successful season this year.
- 0:46Can you see out of those? Oh, for sure I can.
- 0:48Okay. A little honeycomb -like, but, you know.
- 0:50For sure. It's feeling good. I'm ready for this.
- 0:53Feeling good in the Harrison Smith white -away
- 0:56jersey. Nice. Good call. Starting it off the
- 0:59season. Hopefully, it might be his last year.
- 1:03Probably is. We'll get into it. Kev, thanks for
- 1:07getting everything done. He's behind the cameras,
- 1:09of course, as always. Let's just get into it
- 1:13here. Let's do it, baby. You know what? We're
- 1:15going to save the bikes for last. All right?
- 1:17All right. Let's start. You know what? Let's
- 1:20start with the Chicago Bears. Gross. Let's start
- 1:23with the Chicago Bears. What was their record
- 1:27last year? 5 -12. 5 -12. They did not finish
- 1:32very well. I mean, they started okay this season,
- 1:35but... Ben Johnson, new head coach, coming out
- 1:38from the Lions. See if he can get Caleb Williams
- 1:42to trust his eyes and throw the ball on time
- 1:45and stop dancing around. But he did have a decent
- 1:49rookie season, you know, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions,
- 1:53almost a 90 rate, which is not too bad for a
- 1:56rookie, you know. No, I don't hate it. A lot
- 1:58of pressure being the top pick, you know what
- 2:00I mean? I think he will be able to unlock Caleb
- 2:05Williams' full potential. The dude has elite
- 2:07arm talent. It's ridiculous. It looks effortless.
- 2:10It seriously looks effortless for him. You got
- 2:14D .J. Moore returning, Roma Dunze, who also turned
- 2:18out a decent rookie year as well. And then who
- 2:21was it they drafted that tight end? Luther Burden.
- 2:24Loveland. And then Burden as well, Burden III
- 2:28from Missouri. So I think there's a lot to be
- 2:31excited about. Already a defense that's truly
- 2:35not that bad. I think the Bears, they were 5
- 2:40-12 last year. That's what I said the first time.
- 2:43Sorry, I had to ask you five more times. I have
- 2:47them going 8 -9 this year. That's a big jump.
- 2:50I'm going 8 -9. Well, I have them at 7 -10, so
- 2:52a little behind that aspect. Similar, though.
- 2:55Similar. Very similar. But, yeah, they stacked
- 2:58up their offense line. They got that Drew Dahlman
- 3:00from the Falcons, Jonah Jackson, Joe Tooney.
- 3:05Is that Chiefs? Was he at the Chiefs? Yep, Chiefs,
- 3:07yep. And then they drafted another tackle in
- 3:10the second round. They spent some money this
- 3:13year to definitely improve this team. But they
- 3:18only averaged 18 .2 a game last year. I mean,
- 3:23that's not going to cut it. They were last in
- 3:25the league in yards per game. So, D -Swift. You
- 3:30think he's got a little bit left in the tank?
- 3:32100%. 100%. And he had a better year last year.
- 3:35Yes, it wasn't a great rushing average. I think
- 3:38it's 3 .8. I mean, that's way better than Jay
- 3:41Williams. Stop. Stop. We've moved on from my
- 3:45take on Javante Williams. Just wait. It's all
- 3:46right. But D. Swift will be over 1 ,000 yards
- 3:50this year. No problem. No problem, huh? No problem.
- 3:53No problem. It's not the injuries. No problem.
- 3:57Well, okay. Good point. Good point. He played
- 3:5917 games last year. Yeah. If he can do it again,
- 4:02he'll be over 1 ,000 yards this year. Okay. Yes.
- 4:04Rushing. Just rushing alone. 1 ,000 yards. What
- 4:07do you think about their defense? Just in general?
- 4:09Yeah. They're not going to be an easy walk for
- 4:14our Vikings. Okay. I do not think so. Honestly,
- 4:19Montez is scary. With the 5 .5 sacks last year.
- 4:24But still, I don't give a shit. QB pressures,
- 4:27QB hits. And we have a rookie quarterback. Again,
- 4:31comparing specifically to the Vikings. But just
- 4:33in general, you know, that's why I have them.
- 4:36They're going to be more of those competitive
- 4:37L's again this year for the Bears. I think they
- 4:40definitely take a step forward. New regime, you
- 4:44know, that's always going to be. For me, it's
- 4:46like, how's it looking at the end of, like, year
- 4:48three? You know, that's higher, you know, that's
- 4:52extender for 30, you know, you know, but I think
- 4:56we're going to see a massive difference for the
- 4:58Bears this year, at least offensively for sure.
- 5:01Defensively, they just got to stay healthy straight
- 5:03up. They do. Yeah, that's all it is for them.
- 5:05Otherwise, they have at least a top 15 defense.
- 5:09Yeah, that's probably their ceiling, maybe, because
- 5:14they were horrible against the run last year.
- 5:16I feel like they were injured half the season
- 5:18defensively. A little bit, yeah. They didn't
- 5:21blitz very much either. I just think the front
- 5:23four on the defense needs to play better. With
- 5:26Edmonds and Edwards, they're linebackers. Like
- 5:30them both. Jalen Johnson and Stevenson. He only
- 5:34played five games last year, so he's one of those
- 5:36injured guys. And they did get Gary Jarrett from
- 5:42the Falcons in his 11th year trying to re -get
- 5:47his career back going. But, yeah, 7 -10. I think
- 5:51there's a little bit of improvement. But they've
- 5:53got to play the NFC East, too. So that schedule
- 5:57is not very easy for them. They are playing the
- 5:59last place schedule in the NFC. So that's where
- 6:02I think they gain a couple more wins. It'll be
- 6:06interesting to see what Ben Johnson can do with
- 6:08Kayla Williams. I think that's what's going to
- 6:11determine their success or not moving forward
- 6:14is whether they can get him to throw the ball
- 6:17on time. On time. On time. And he's not necessarily
- 6:20a timing quarterback. No. Well, he's just so
- 6:24athletic that he's just so used to in his whole
- 6:27life that he had that athletic ability. Which
- 6:30is fair. Which is fair. It just doesn't work
- 6:32that way. Teach yourself to do that. For sure.
- 6:35I mean, that's what got you there. For sure.
- 6:37But, yeah. All right. All right. Moving right
- 6:40along. I actually have another team at 8 -9 in
- 6:43the NFC North. Okay. Okay. It's the Green Bay
- 6:46Packers. Ooh, down. And I don't feel solid about
- 6:54it, actually. I feel like they could actually
- 6:56go ahead and... Get up to 10 wins again. But
- 7:00officially, I do have them also at 8 and 9. Okay.
- 7:04They were 11 and 6 last year. For sure. For sure.
- 7:07But lost quite a few corners. I'm kind of worried,
- 7:12especially with the receivers that are in the
- 7:14NFC North specifically. You know, you have to
- 7:17see Amon Ross St. Brown twice a year. You got
- 7:19to see Jay Jett as Jordan. Only Jordan Addison
- 7:23one game, but potentially. No. Yeah, we play
- 7:27them in the opener. No, we're talking about the
- 7:29Packers now. Because I thought about the Bears
- 7:31too. I was like, wait a minute. No, that's not
- 7:32correct. So anyway, sorry. So I'm a little worried
- 7:36about the corners. But the rest of the defense,
- 7:41again, staying healthy. That's a tough defense.
- 7:47It's a tough defense. Rashawn Gary's still there.
- 7:49Kenny Clark. I mean, they haven't changed up
- 7:51a whole lot. I don't hate Van Ness. You know,
- 7:53Quay Walker. I'm a big Quay Walker guy. Between
- 7:56him and Brisker on the Bears, I love both those
- 7:59guys. You can kind of use them wherever. Still
- 8:03got Xavier McKinney. He had eight picks last
- 8:05year. For sure. Very nice. Did that lead? No.
- 8:09leading interceptions was at nine i can't remember
- 8:11yeah but anyway sorry but yeah alexander and
- 8:14stokes are the two corners yeah you're talking
- 8:15about that they lost um even though alexander
- 8:18really hasn't played many games over the last
- 8:20few years they did end up getting nate hobbs
- 8:22i mean even valentine he was literally their
- 8:24third corner last year i'm pretty sure so literally
- 8:26all all different you know Different look to
- 8:30the starting corners this year for the Packers.
- 8:32But their defense was overall pretty solid. They
- 8:36had been under 20 a game. I think they were 6
- 8:38in yards per game. Not that I think. I see it.
- 8:41I wrote this down. They were good against the
- 8:44run. Overall, their defense, that's why they
- 8:47were 11 -6. The back end is what scares me. The
- 8:50cornerbacks. You're going to have to rely on
- 8:52McKinney. But offensively... And don't they play
- 8:57the Bengals this year, too? The Packers, I can't
- 9:00remember if they play the Bengals as well. I
- 9:01think they do. I feel like they do. Because we
- 9:03do, right? Yep. So, like, that's another team.
- 9:06Tee Higgins, Andrew March. What are we even talking
- 9:09about? So, I don't know. That's why I have them,
- 9:11I think, at eight wins. But drafting Matthew
- 9:14Golden, I think that's a good move. I really
- 9:16like him. Maybe take some pressure off Christian
- 9:18Watson, get him back healthy and, you know. Maybe
- 9:22it'll unlock him a little bit more. I mean, I
- 9:25feel, hopefully, I mean, if I was a Packers fan,
- 9:27Golden turns into the wide receiver one for them.
- 9:31You know, I feel like they've had a bunch of
- 9:32rookies and no one's just came out and been like,
- 9:35all right. And Jaden Reed's okay, Romeo Dobbs,
- 9:37Octavian Wicks. I like all those guys. I feel
- 9:39like they're twos. But they're not a number one
- 9:41receiver. Exactly. So, Golden coming out of Texas.
- 9:44And it still felt like they were forcing Christian
- 9:46Watson to be a number one receiver. Now, where
- 9:49they drafted him, you hope that he is, right?
- 9:51But I don't know. I like the tight ends they
- 9:54got, too. Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave. So
- 9:58it's... I don't know. Again, they could go 10
- 10:01wins pretty easily. I don't know. It's going
- 10:03to be a battle. Again, not an easy win this year
- 10:07facing the Packers. They only gave up 22 sacks
- 10:10last year. We haven't even talked about Josh
- 10:14Jacobs. Money here. Dude's just a beast. Yeah.
- 10:1915 touchdowns. 1 ,300. 4 .4. See, that's where
- 10:23you need your Jay Williams at. Stop. Oh, my God.
- 10:27How many teams are you going to get Jay Williams
- 10:30in? Oh, my God. All right. Well, he claimed he
- 10:32was a great running back. I think he's going
- 10:35to be better. I think he's going to just help
- 10:38Dallas' running game. He's the starter. Yeah.
- 10:41He's going to be better than what they've had
- 10:42going on. So, yep. 10 and 7. It's going to be
- 10:46competitive right there. with the rest of the
- 10:48league or the division. For sure. It's another
- 10:50tough year for the NFC North. They've got no
- 10:53easy games. All right. All right. Let's do it.
- 10:59Minnesota Vikings. Here it is. Skull Vikes. A
- 11:04lot of exciting things. Adam Thielen back as
- 11:07of yesterday. Yesterday. Carson Wentz in the
- 11:10house. As the backup, I like that move a lot,
- 11:14just to come in and back up the rookie quarterback,
- 11:17who is probably the biggest question mark for
- 11:20the Vikings heading into 2025. Yes, no. For sure.
- 11:23So is he the guy? Is he taking us? Is he the
- 11:29future of the Minnesota Vikings? No, he's not
- 11:32taking us to the promised land. Not this year.
- 11:34But is he the future of the Minnesota Vikings?
- 11:36I'm hoping he is. Coming off a surprising 14
- 11:39-3 season, I don't think anybody, I think Vegas
- 11:42had my eight wins last year, so they dominated
- 11:46that. I'd like to see Aaron Jones back. I'd like
- 11:48the Jordan Mason pick up for sure. Big time.
- 11:51But do we just like that because he shredded
- 11:53us? I know. I thought about that today when I
- 11:56was trying to. Corlin Sutton did it to us a few
- 11:58years. But I do like. I think he fits the scheme.
- 12:03I think he fits what KFC wants to do. We'll see.
- 12:06Yeah, I mean, I think he's an upgrade over Ty
- 12:08Chandler. So, overall, I'll take that as a win,
- 12:10you know? Fair enough. Just a little more dependent
- 12:13carrying the ball. Ty had a little bit of holding
- 12:17on to the ball issues, which kind of, I think,
- 12:19put him in the doggos. I was almost thinking
- 12:22he might lose his job to Scott, but they both
- 12:24made the roster right now. And maybe that's just
- 12:28because CJ Hamm is starting on the season. On
- 12:32IR. But anyway, sorry. I'm hoping Jets, his hammy,
- 12:37I know he's been dealing with the hamstring most
- 12:39of the... training season here. They say he's
- 12:42ready for week one, or will be. Then we got Addison
- 12:45out for four games, so the Thielen pick up today,
- 12:47it was nice. Which is now, as I was thinking
- 12:49about it, we traded for him, so that means we're
- 12:51paying him the salary that the Carolina Panthers
- 12:54signed him for. I mean, potentially. Potentially.
- 12:58I don't know if there's details, the financial
- 13:00details are out. I feel like there's some money
- 13:03that Carolina's going to be paying him. No way
- 13:05we're taking on that. And then I got T -Hawk
- 13:08coming back. He played 10 games last year coming
- 13:11off that horrible knee injury, so I'm hoping
- 13:14he's up and flying. We all hope that. Re -sign
- 13:17Josh Oliver, best blocking tight end in the league,
- 13:20run blocking tight end in the league. So that
- 13:22should help Aaron Jones. Speaking of blocking,
- 13:25the O -line, that's pretty much retooled. Christian
- 13:28Derrissaw hopefully coming back nice and healthy.
- 13:30Same with Brian O 'Neal, who kind of had that
- 13:32weird little thing going on at the end of the
- 13:33season. You're going to go ahead and draft Donovan
- 13:36Jackson. And then, obviously... bringing in Ryan
- 13:40Kelly and Will Fries. Hopefully Will Fries is
- 13:42good, ready to go. Hopefully he can stay healthy
- 13:45after that horrific injury he suffered. I'm actually
- 13:49really excited to see this offensive line. On
- 13:51paper, this should be a top five offensive line.
- 13:54I don't see why not. I mean, you got the top
- 13:57three. tackle combo in the league probably and
- 14:00then add in ryan kelly and will fries i it's
- 14:04a great addition donovan jackson's the biggest
- 14:05question mark to me but also will fries just
- 14:07because he's hasn't played a lot yeah as of late
- 14:10and i like the way i mean donovan jackson went
- 14:12to ohio state too so the amy's played in a lot
- 14:14of ton of pressure games big crowds so i don't
- 14:17think it's gonna be too big for him speaking
- 14:19of big crowds the other side of the ball that
- 14:21uh i mean The big trade with Harrison Phillips
- 14:24going out the door, kind of out of nowhere. Well,
- 14:27I think it's because of this guy, Ingram Dawkins
- 14:28out of Georgia. I mean, that dude's just a beast.
- 14:30Former five -star recruit. Love it. I think that's
- 14:34the only reason why one of the defensive captains
- 14:38and a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee gets
- 14:41traded. I mean, it is wild. Yeah, he was a great
- 14:44dude. And to the Jets, that's... I hate that
- 14:49form. I'm sorry. Well, it just needed a detackle.
- 14:51Arguably a bubble playoff team for, you know
- 14:55what I mean? Yeah. Yeah, it sucks to lose. Great
- 14:58locker room guy. You know, I follow him on Twitter.
- 15:01So he always has great, you know, doing community
- 15:03events and stuff. And then draft party down at
- 15:06the bank every year that I went, he was there.
- 15:08So much love on that. So, I mean, we got a top
- 15:12five defense. Kept it under 20 a game. I think
- 15:16we're fifth in yards a game. And, again, on paper,
- 15:19it looks like we could do the exact same thing
- 15:20again. I mean, adding Jonathan Allen, Javon Hargrave,
- 15:23you know, obviously. They need to play. Well,
- 15:26and that's just it, right? Just like everybody,
- 15:28got to stay healthy. Blake Cashman, way different
- 15:31defense when he's on the field. You know, Ivan
- 15:35Pace, he missed a couple games early last season
- 15:38as well. Van Ginkle. You know, Isaiah Rogers,
- 15:42you know, getting up there. You know, Harrison
- 15:44Smith. How many snaps does Harrison Smith actually
- 15:46get? How much do we see Theo Jackson and Josh
- 15:49Metellus on the field? You know, Byron Murphy
- 15:51back on an extension. Thank God. I know. We overpaid
- 15:54him, but we had to. We talked about that last
- 15:56year. I think we'll add Stephon Gilmore, too,
- 15:58before this is all said and done. And on the
- 16:00defense side, I think the most interesting thing
- 16:03that I'm kind of looking at right now with Pat
- 16:05Jones leaving, this is where Dallas Turner needs
- 16:09to come up. It's an opportunity. That's his spot
- 16:13now that Pat Jones is gone. Yeah, a secondary
- 16:17is probably still going to be my biggest question
- 16:20mark, you know, is Isaiah Rogers a starting cornerback
- 16:23in the NFL? You know, we did trade Blackman or
- 16:26Beckman. Which, again, no, Blackman, you're right,
- 16:29which, again, still makes me think there's one
- 16:31more move to be had out there. Even if we signed,
- 16:34even if the Vikes signed, you know, Stephon Gilmore,
- 16:38you know, from free agency. Otherwise, maybe
- 16:40they're just really high on that guy, McLaughlin.
- 16:43who looked good last year in camp. Yeah, he did.
- 16:46So stuck around. They do have Jeff Okuda, who
- 16:50people like. He's a physical specimen. Still
- 16:53hasn't quite grasped... Covering NFL receivers.
- 16:58Just can't quite get it done yet. Maybe... And
- 17:02he was the number one first -round pick. But
- 17:04maybe this is new life for Jeff Okuda here in...
- 17:09In school country. I just need a warm body out
- 17:11there mostly at this point. I hear you. Stay
- 17:13healthy because we're pretty thin out there.
- 17:16I have us. Oh, yeah. We didn't even do that yet.
- 17:2010 and 7. 10 and 7. Yep. I have us at. 11 -6,
- 17:26yeah. No way we're going 14 wins again. That
- 17:30was crazy. Not going to happen this year, not
- 17:32with the rookie quarterback. But I do think we're
- 17:34going to be double -digit win, no problem. Playoff
- 17:36team, yes. Jettis is on the freaking team. Come
- 17:39on. We didn't even talk about him. No, because
- 17:41we don't have to. Yeah, everybody knows we don't
- 17:44have to. Yeah, we already know what he did, what
- 17:47he can do. 100%. So let's go to our final team,
- 17:51the Detroit Lions. The roar has been received.
- 17:53Restored. The roar has been restored. But losing
- 17:58their OC in D .C., we know this. Who's a bigger
- 18:02loss, Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn? Ben Johnson.
- 18:07Wasn't it the linebacker coach that took over
- 18:10as a D .C.? I think so. I thought. And so I feel
- 18:15like he's just going to kind of keep a very similar
- 18:17thing going. I think Aaron Glenn is the bigger
- 18:22loss. Okay. Because that defense played pretty
- 18:26well, even on the backside of the season, with
- 18:30Hutchinson gone. I mean, how many games did he
- 18:32play? Five games last year. And that secondary
- 18:37was completely torn up, too. The linebacker,
- 18:45he only played 10 games. God, he plays real well
- 18:48when he's in, too. But defensively, they were
- 18:51heavy on the IR last year, but they were good
- 18:53against the pass. They need to get a little better
- 18:55against the run. They did pick up D -tackle.
- 18:59Williams from Ohio State in the first round.
- 19:03Guard out of Georgia, too. They got D .J. Reeder.
- 19:07And then McNeil was the other D -tackle that
- 19:11I really liked. Secondary. Joseph, Arnold, Branch,
- 19:14and then DJ Reed from the Jets. They signed this
- 19:17year, too. That was a good signing. Yeah, that
- 19:19was a really good signing. I really wanted the
- 19:20Vikes to sign it, too. Kirby Joseph, that's who.
- 19:25I think he lead the league in picks, I'm pretty
- 19:28sure, last year. Yeah, I think you're right.
- 19:31What do you think of the offense? Just money?
- 19:34I mean, Jameer Gibbs is a freaking cheat code
- 19:37right now. Yeah, he is. I mean, I don't know
- 19:39if he's... No, it's got to be Saquon Barkley.
- 19:42Not to even use Madden ratings, but I feel like
- 19:45Saquon is probably ranked slightly higher. But
- 19:46Jameer Gibbs has got to be up there because the
- 19:48dude is just outstanding. He's a game changer.
- 19:51I love the one -two punch with David Montgomery.
- 19:53I mean, it's literally perfect. They've got to
- 19:55be just tickled pink to be in the situation they
- 19:58are with each other. I mean, it's just a great
- 20:00one -two punch. Then add in Aminra St. Brown,
- 20:03obviously Jameson Williams. You're welcome from
- 20:05the Vikes. I think he's going to be more of a
- 20:08playmaker this year. I think now he's comfortable.
- 20:11Everything's going to start clicking for Jameson
- 20:12Williams a little bit more. Sam Laporta obviously
- 20:14has been great since he's entered the league.
- 20:16Is he an Iowa tight end? You are correct. Of
- 20:19course. O -line. Didn't they have O 'Lyman retire,
- 20:24too? Who am I thinking of? No, not retire. They
- 20:26lost Frank Regnault. And then they lost. I knew
- 20:31you were going to ask me that question. I'm sorry.
- 20:33And then Kevin. No, he did retire. Oh, he did
- 20:36retire. Yeah, Frank Regnault. And then Zittler.
- 20:39Yep, Zittler went to the Titans. Yeah, so offense,
- 20:43they were PFF number two. So that gives you a
- 20:46kind of good guide of where they were at. I mean,
- 20:49it's going to be that rookie guard start. as
- 20:51well. Yeah. Ratledge. Yeah, from Georgia. Yeah,
- 20:54second rounder. I don't know. It'll be interesting.
- 20:57But they're locked and loaded again. So, I mean,
- 20:59they're going to be a tough out. I mean, and
- 21:01when Panay Sewell can just run routes, I guess.
- 21:04Yes. You know, whatever. What an athlete. Yeah.
- 21:06Freaking A. All right. They finished, what, 15
- 21:10-2 last year, right? Correct. I got them at 12
- 21:14-5. 11 -6 is where I got them. 11 -6. And the
- 21:18reason why, they got a hard road schedule this
- 21:20year. Most of their tough teams that they have
- 21:23to play, they're even the same as the Vikings,
- 21:25but they get them all on the road. Yeah. So I
- 21:27think that's where they'll lose a couple more.
- 21:29I mean, 15 -2 is an epic season. Again, that's
- 21:32what I mean. 15 -2, 14 -3 for the Vikes. I mean,
- 21:35it's not going to happen again. It's pretty rare.
- 21:37It's not going to happen again. Not this season,
- 21:39buddy. So, no, I agree. 12 -5, so we both have
- 21:42them winning the NFC North again. Unfortunately.
- 21:45unfortunately yes in the motor city again so
- 21:48uh let's see is that oh that's right they're
- 21:50part of my three -way tie for the number one
- 21:52seed okay so right now they're tied with uh philly
- 21:57for me for the number one seed Keep watching
- 22:00the next few episodes to find out who else they're
- 22:05tied with, really. We got the NFC South still
- 22:08to come. NFC East we still got to talk. I'm sorry,
- 22:11NFC West we still have to talk about. Yeah, buddy.
- 22:14NFC East dropped right before this episode. Kev,
- 22:19obviously, thanks for getting things done for
- 22:21us behind the cameras. Rob, thanks again for
- 22:24being here for another episode. Our co -host

- 22:33Well, yeah, because we're not talking about the
- 22:34Vikings anymore. All right. Fair enough. Fair
- 22:36enough. Yeah, he just wanted all the NFC North
- 22:40fans to see him the whole episode. The whole
- 22:42time. There it is. There it is right there. There
