- 0:06Hello, What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:11Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.
- 0:13It has been three months since my last confession.
- 0:16I've disobeyed my parents many times.
- 0:20I've taken the Lord's name in vain many times.
- 0:23I've had sinful relations with boys at my school.
- 0:27Many boys, many times. My child, these are great sins.
- 0:32You must prepare yourself for the consequences.
- 0:34Father, there's just one more thing.
- 0:37What is it, my poor child? I loved every minute of it.
- 0:42Welcome. So what's your least favorite
- 0:44scary movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:46the good, the bad, the ugly, and the absurd, and all of our
- 0:49favorite. And least favorite.
- 0:50Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:52movie rightfully has his fan base.
- 0:54Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:57My name is Jesse, and guess what?
- 0:59It's May. We're back to prom.
- 1:02Oh yeah. We had so much fun with it last
- 1:05year and we decided, why wouldn't we just go ahead and do
- 1:07it again this year? So many prom movies left
- 1:10undiscussed. Yeah, we're we're we're gonna do
- 1:12it for as long as we can. Yes.
- 1:14Travis looked up how many horror movies featuring Proms there
- 1:18are, and he's like, it's not that many.
- 1:19But then he listed the number and I was like, well, that at
- 1:21least gets us through several more years of prom months, yeah.
- 1:24So yeah, we just have to not talk about them until May.
- 1:28We just have to resist the urge, which is admittedly hard for me
- 1:31because I'm a sucker for a prom horror.
- 1:33So yeah, but that's where we're at.
- 1:38Announcements. Budget to your patrons.
- 1:42Guess what? Y'all are giving us the big
- 1:44bucks supporting the pod financially and one of your
- 1:47perks is a monthly bonus episode.
- 1:50And that came out this past weekend and it was another
- 1:53commentary track because we have so much fun with them and we
- 1:55decided if we have so much fun with commentary tracks, why not
- 1:58have a commentary track about a movie that we also have so much
- 2:00fun with? And guess what that is turn. 2.
- 2:05Yeah, so be sure if you haven't already checked that out, to go
- 2:08ahead and check it out. Yeah, I'm so happy about that.
- 2:11Yeah, man, I love that movie so much.
- 2:13It's so fun. Yeah.
- 2:14And it it we just, you know, we were talking about what kind of
- 2:18a bonus episode do we want to do.
- 2:19And we're like we're we're feeling, feeling a commentary
- 2:23and we've been talking a lot about hooting and hollering and
- 2:26it just it it felt like the right, right one to do.
- 2:28Yeah, it it makes sense. Yeah.
- 2:31OK. So that's it for announcements I
- 2:34believe. So I do believe so.
- 2:36OK, so I got our poll results for last week's movie.
- 2:39OK, we talked about scary movie, and it's simple.
- 2:43This week we asked who was your favorite character.
- 2:46Yeah, from the movie. Only four options.
- 2:49So the choices were Shorty, Doofy, Brenda or Cindy.
- 2:52OK. All right.
- 2:53Over on Instagram, nobody chose Shorty.
- 2:57Oh. 22% Doofy, 67 Brenda, Hell yeah, 11% Cindy.
- 3:04And over on Twitter, 40% Shorty, 20% Doofy, 40% Brenda.
- 3:11And 0 for Cindy. Dang.
- 3:13Yeah, Brenda's the clear Winder. Yeah.
- 3:16Winner. She's the Winder in my heart
- 3:18too. It's OK you didn't stuttle
- 3:19before we got. Man, I'm, I've been clubbing my
- 3:24words. And does other things good too.
- 3:25Yeah, that's that's why I do a podcast.
- 3:27Yeah, because so it works so well.
- 3:31I'm kind of shocked that Cindy is the least loved character out
- 3:36of. Listen, we put her up against
- 3:38Brenda and Shorty. And Doofy.
- 3:40And Doofy. Doofy's probably the most
- 3:42memorable from that movie. My choice though, is Shorty.
- 3:45Shorty's the best fucking character.
- 3:47Mine is Brenda, followed very closely by Shorty.
- 3:50Yeah, Shorty is his fucking laugh.
- 3:52Kills me every single time he's so.
- 3:54Funny we were doing kind of like how you get caught up doing your
- 3:57Seth Rogen laugh the last night we were caught up trying to do
- 3:59our. I'm not even going to try to
- 4:01send that on air. I'm not going to embarrass
- 4:03myself any more than I already am today.
- 4:05No, I've already done a lot of vocal stuff today and we still
- 4:09have two episode records. So yeah, that's.
- 4:12True. All right, so that's it for the
- 4:13poll. Yep.
- 4:14All right, so time to kick off prom month.
- 4:17Time to kick off Prom night, Prom month.
- 4:20OK, Hello Mary Lou Prom Night 2 released October 16th, 1987 in
- 4:24the US. We watched it on DVD.
- 4:27Holla at Your Half Price Books. We found a horror movie
- 4:31collection called Scream Queens and it features Prom Night and
- 4:35Prom Night 2. I think Prom night 2 is kind of
- 4:37a rare find. Yeah.
- 4:38I don't know about the DVD. I don't think that there was
- 4:40ever a Blu-ray produced of it. Yeah.
- 4:43And it just, it was one of those that we saw it and immediately
- 4:46had to have it because I a spoiler for the discussion.
- 4:50I adore this movie. So, and I'm pretty sure I
- 4:52mentioned it last year too when we were talking about The First
- 4:55Prom. Yeah, yeah, this is.
- 4:57We haven't seen the others because there's a three and a
- 4:59four. We've seen the remake.
- 5:01Yeah, I haven't seen the remake in many years.
- 5:05Yeah, it's a lot. I I remember watching it in a
- 5:08dorm room. So yeah, it's it's a while.
- 5:12Yeah, it was a while back, yeah. Written by Ron.
- 5:15Oh oh, I just skipped over some stuff if you want to watch it as
- 5:19of the end of April, so who knows how it changed.
- 5:22But I don't think it changed too much because it's on a ton of
- 5:25the free streaming services basically anywhere.
- 5:30Tubi, Peacock, Pluto TV, Sling TV, Fandango at Home, Crackle,
- 5:34Red Box, Plex Prime Free V, Fubo TV, AM C Plus, Philo YouTube
- 5:39Premium, and YouTube TV Premium. You can also run it from Google
- 5:42Play. If you want to, I guess.
- 5:46If you want. If you absolutely have to pay
- 5:48for it, you can do. That, yeah.
- 5:49So, I mean, there you go. It's one of our most watchable
- 5:53movies. Seriously, that's ridiculous.
- 5:55I I almost told you to just take a screenshot.
- 5:57Yeah, I pulled. Well, 'cause I have to, I always
- 5:59type it up to put on. Our social media.
- 6:02For people to watch and I I did contemplate during a screenshot
- 6:06and overlaying it on the actual poster, but I didn't.
- 6:10But that's the that's a good problem to have right there.
- 6:12Too many places. This is to watch it.
- 6:14Yeah, so if you weren't aware that this movie existed,
- 6:18definitely do yourself a favor and go watch it.
- 6:20It has nothing to do with the first one, and that's absolutely
- 6:23fine. And for our mutant fan or people
- 6:26who have not really watched any Joe Bob, there is a Joe Bob
- 6:29episode. So it's a really good episode.
- 6:31Season 2 finale. I think season one, season one
- 6:35finale. Yeah, it's technically season
- 6:36one, but it's listed as season 2.
- 6:38Because. Because the marathon.
- 6:40Yeah. OK.
- 6:41That's why I got confused. I was like, no, I remember it
- 6:43being season two. Yeah, Marathon's counted as
- 6:44season one on Shutter. Yeah, Season 2, which is the
- 6:49first, like, regular season that Joe Bob did for Shutter.
- 6:54This was the finale. Yeah.
- 6:55So. So, I mean, that's always a good
- 6:57time. Yeah.
- 6:58Yeah, we actually, we watched the just Joe Bob version of it
- 7:01right before coming in. So we're we're primed.
- 7:03And we've got John Brennan's sweet Jersey voice in our heads.
- 7:10OK. Written by Ron Oliver.
- 7:13Directed by Bruce Pittman, Music by Paul Zazzo and special
- 7:16effects makeup by Darwin Madly Starring Michael Ironsign as
- 7:21Bill Nordum, Wendy Lyon as Vicky Carpenter.
- 7:25Lewis Ferreira as Justin Lewis as Craig Nordum, Lisa Schrage as
- 7:32Mary Lou Maloney, and Richard Manette as Father Cooper Travis.
- 7:38Yes, it's time for our favorite game budget.
- 7:40Oh, bug Ted. Do you have the budget?
- 7:45I do. Awesome, I think.
- 7:46It's in Canadian though. It's a Canadian movie, so.
- 7:50Yeah. I don't have the US conversion
- 7:52because I didn't want to do Canadian to US And then 2024 to
- 7:551987, that was too much math for you to do well.
- 7:57I would say, even by Canadian standards that this is going to
- 8:00be bug Ted. And I know that they get some
- 8:02pretty good tax breaks up there too.
- 8:05This is bug. Ted, OK, yes, 2.5 million
- 8:08Canadian. That makes sense.
- 8:10Opening box office was 911,000 and a worldwide girth of 2.6 US
- 8:15million. IMDb score of 5.7 out of 10.
- 8:20That's Switch. Whoa.
- 8:22I'm honestly, I'm surprised just because I feel like this isn't a
- 8:25movie that you hear talked about a lot.
- 8:27So I'm cautiously optimistic about the score.
- 8:32Yeah, you know what? That's optimistic.
- 8:33Probably isn't the right word, but whatever.
- 8:35Pleased. Yeah, I guess I'm happy with
- 8:39that. Yeah, that's pretty solid for a
- 8:41horror movie, especially like a cheesy 80s one.
- 8:45I'm really excited about the theme.
- 8:47Now would you get something good?
- 8:48Well cuz I did go with sequels again, but this is sequels.
- 8:52It was a tenuous relation to the first movie in the frame.
- 8:55I love that. Is there really that many in
- 8:57this this year? There is.
- 8:59There were also some of our, like, favorites here on the
- 9:01show, including Doom, Asylum, and Video violence.
- 9:04Yeah, but I I saw enough of these that I was like, that's a
- 9:08fun, fun thing to go. With.
- 9:09That's great. Yeah, I'm excited for this.
- 9:11I have no idea. What these are gonna be either?
- 9:14So the first one is Slumber Party Massacre 2.
- 9:17OK. Which the connecting thread is
- 9:20slumber parties and also the main character who was played by
- 9:24a completely different actress and looks nothing like the
- 9:26little sister in the first one. Yeah, they make an attempt to
- 9:28connect them, but really I don't feel any connection between
- 9:32those two movies at. All, yeah.
- 9:33And it also went from like a more grounded to a more fantasy
- 9:36take. Yeah, yeah, what the hell.
- 9:39That released on the same day, October 16th.
- 9:42I don't have a budget or a gross for this, but I was kind of
- 9:45disappointed cuz I was like yeah I can finally get budget and
- 9:49ghost for this cuz we covered it before we started regularly
- 9:53adding that. Yeah, but yeah, and it's got a
- 9:57very rude IMDb score of 4.7. That's actually kinda higher
- 10:03than I was thinking. See.
- 10:05Like, we like it because we know that it's stupid.
- 10:08You know what? I.
- 10:08Mean like. A lot of people probably watch
- 10:11that movie and think this fucking guy got a guitar and
- 10:13he's just dancing around. OK, the second one, Evil Dead 2.
- 10:21OK. Which is it basically redoes the
- 10:25first one bit differently. Yeah, it's pretty much a remake.
- 10:28Don't come at me. I'm not calling it a bad movie.
- 10:31I'm just saying when you watch the first one and then watch the
- 10:34second one, it doesn't feel like a sequel.
- 10:37No, you can just watch the second one and pretty much be
- 10:40good. Yeah, except not because it's
- 10:42different. Yeah, the first one's great too.
- 10:44I love the. First one, Yeah, the first one.
- 10:47I remember the first time watching it.
- 10:49I distinctly I can picture myself sitting on the couch, the
- 10:53TV's in the quarter, and I see one of the dead eyes laughing.
- 10:57And I looked at my mom and I was like, is this real?
- 11:00It's so great, people think the first one's not serious well.
- 11:05People are wrong. I feel like it's pretty serious.
- 11:07OK, so that released March 13th, 1987, Tom's birthday, a budget
- 11:14of 3.6 million and a worldwide gross of 5.9 million.
- 11:17Nice. And an IMDb score of 7.7 out of
- 11:2010. Yeah, that's really high up
- 11:22there. That deserves it too.
- 11:24Yeah, that's a really good movie.
- 11:26And the third one is the one that you haven't seen but you're
- 11:29very excited to see. I haven't seen it and I'm
- 11:33excited to see it. Yeah, for all the wrong reasons.
- 11:37For all the right reasons, depending on who you are.
- 11:39It's the right reasons in our house.
- 11:41What is it? Jaws the Revenge.
- 11:44Yeah. Wait, which one?
- 11:45That's four, right? Yeah, that's the one with
- 11:47Michael Carr. There you go, Michael.
- 11:48Carr I feel like my Michael Caine's getting pretty better.
- 11:52Look at that. That's my good talking right
- 11:53there. Getting pretty better.
- 11:55Y'all. God damn.
- 12:00It so that released July 17th, 1987, a budget of 23 million and
- 12:05a worldwide gross of 51 million I.
- 12:07Can't wait until we work our way up all the way to Santa Jaws.
- 12:11ITV 3 point O. Oh, I was getting questions.
- 12:17I was gonna guess upper twos. OK, wow.
- 12:19Yeah, that sounds awesome. I can't wait for that.
- 12:22That's gonna be great. Yeah, I don't.
- 12:25I don't wanna spoil anything for you about it.
- 12:27Do you remember? Much.
- 12:29I've only seen it one time, but certain details of that just get
- 12:32like burned in your memory. Yeah, I I can imagine.
- 12:37OK, I have lots of tag lines. Awesome.
- 12:39Many tag lines many times. This movie's primed for plenty
- 12:42of tag lines. It's perfect.
- 12:44It's like, there's so many things that you can do, like the
- 12:46easy cheesy pun with and this is the type of movie that you do an
- 12:51easy cheesy pun with. Yeah, for sure.
- 12:53OK, Mary Lou wants to be prom queen, even if it kills her
- 12:58again. I like that one.
- 13:01That's a really good one. First I was like OK and then
- 13:04again I was. Like, I like that.
- 13:06Yeah, Mary Lou is back. God help the students of
- 13:10Hamilton High. Yeah, that's not too bad.
- 13:14Yeah, she is kind of a menace. An old flame returns.
- 13:23I kind of like that because, like, it's the old flame of
- 13:26Michael Ironside. But also she died it'd.
- 13:30Be great if she came back and she was still on fire though,
- 13:33like. Like, suddenly that's how you
- 13:38know when Vicki's possessed. Because like, hey, Vicki, you're
- 13:40on fire. She goes.
- 13:40That's fine. Yeah, it started with Prom night
- 13:451957. Now it's happening again.
- 13:51OK, yeah, that one's just meh, whatever.
- 13:54She's dying to get even. She's already dead.
- 13:59Yeah. She she's getting even, 'cause
- 14:02she died. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:05Vengeance never rests in peace. That one's pretty good.
- 14:10Yeah, that one sounds too bad. And so I can't hear rest in
- 14:12peace without, like, hearing Spike in my head going rest in
- 14:15peace. OK, it's prom night 1957.
- 14:24Oh no, I will deny. It's prom night 1957.
- 14:30I couldn't. I couldn't read what that word
- 14:33was. Oh, OK.
- 14:35I. Wish that that's what it was.
- 14:38I would have ordered it out of the winter just for like having
- 14:41the guts to go there. It's.
- 14:43Prom night 1957 at Hamilton High.
- 14:47OK, OK. Finally, in 1957, Mary Lou
- 14:51Maloney went up in flames. Now she's back.
- 14:54And she's burning Med. Oh, OK.
- 14:59Is that it? Yes.
- 15:00I I thought for sure one of them was gonna be.
- 15:03It's not who you come with, it's who you go home with.
- 15:05I know. Which if you guys didn't listen
- 15:08to last year's prom month, I mean, no judgement, but you
- 15:10probably should because it was a good time.
- 15:12But that line is used in all of the prom night movies.
- 15:16It's not who you come with, it's who you go home with.
- 15:18I. Love that line.
- 15:19It's so good. OK, so I've got a few fun facts.
- 15:22Not as many fun facts as I was hoping to, especially having
- 15:26watched the Just Joe Bob. It was more like facts about
- 15:28like music and Ron Oliver. So.
- 15:32Ron Oliver Is that the? The.
- 15:34Writer OK, OK, well, that's so interesting stuff.
- 15:37The original title was The Haunting of Hamilton High, which
- 15:41actually if you like Google search 1987 horror movies, you
- 15:45will see the poster with Vicki's face and it says that it says
- 15:50The Haunting of Hamilton High. So they must have went pretty
- 15:53far with that. Yeah, they at least did on mock
- 15:55up of a poster. I feel like they probably just
- 15:58needed, they wanted to market it as something different.
- 16:01They're like, whoa, let's just put in a franchise That way it
- 16:03has something going for. It yeah, it kind of feels like
- 16:07how fall break God, I can't even remember.
- 16:11What The Mutilator? Thank you.
- 16:12I just call it fall break so often.
- 16:14Clearly that was for a long time meant to be fall break.
- 16:17Yeah, they have a song and everything.
- 16:19I think that they went a little bit too far with that one
- 16:21though, cuz like everything in that they have a whole fucking
- 16:23song. And like, the title card in that
- 16:25movie is Fall Break, and they're like, oh, it's called The
- 16:27Mutilator like. Really.
- 16:28Are you sure? But yeah, so this movie ended up
- 16:31being renamed for the Ricky Nelson song and then kind of
- 16:34attached to the Prom night legacy to, you know, the classic
- 16:40story of how do we get people interested in this.
- 16:43Yeah, but I do think it's fun because this is Ron Oliver's
- 16:46first script or his first feature length script, I think
- 16:50is what he was saying. That's pretty impressive.
- 16:52And he's a big horror fan. So there are 9 characters that
- 16:55are named after horror directors and he ended up going on to
- 16:59write and direct Prom Night Three.
- 17:02He originally was planning to have continuity from 2:00 to
- 17:073:00, but Michael Ironside didn't come back for three.
- 17:11We do get a return of Mary Lou, though.
- 17:14Yeah. And also Josh.
- 17:15He's and Josh. Yeah.
- 17:16Josh Brock, who plays? No.
- 17:20Josh is the character. No.
- 17:22Josh Is the character same? Yeah.
- 17:24Oh, is it OK? Yeah.
- 17:25Brock something. Hold on.
- 17:28Let me let me just pull it up real quick, cuz he's in all of
- 17:32them too, and I think that's really interesting.
- 17:34You said he was young Nick in the.
- 17:36First, yeah, he was young Nick in the first one.
- 17:38I think he plays a different character and each one kind of
- 17:40like catch it. Yeah, cuz he died in this one,
- 17:42so he's definitely not the same character.
- 17:43Brock Simpson? Brock Simpson?
- 17:45Yeah, that's. The actor's name.
- 17:47Yes, that's the actor's name. So he's Young Nick in the first
- 17:50one. In the fourth one, he's Father
- 17:52Cooper. Whoa. 4th one, Yeah.
- 17:55So so they do keep some continuity.
- 17:57They they do. And he's Larry in the third one.
- 18:00Interesting hope. He's Leisure Suit Larry.
- 18:02God, I forgot all about those. I feel like that you don't need
- 18:07Michael Ironside for the sequel though.
- 18:09I mean, recast. It's totally cool.
- 18:11People do that all the time, especially in horror.
- 18:12Nobody gives that. Much.
- 18:13I mean that's also a hatchet thing to recast the the lead.
- 18:17And also a hatchet thing is using the same guy as different
- 18:19characters. Yeah, that's what I was saying
- 18:21with Brock Simpson. He's, yeah, yeah.
- 18:23That's funny, yeah. Yeah, so they they did have some
- 18:28types, but it didn't follow the original story that they had
- 18:31planned. Jim Doyle did some of the
- 18:34special effects specifically like the the chalkboard scene
- 18:37when the hands come out and they get Vicky.
- 18:40So that scene, even though it's a 46 second shot, took five days
- 18:46to film and cost approximately $2000 per hour.
- 18:50Holy shit yeah and he like they did.
- 18:53You know, some forced perspectives type stuff and
- 18:55actually the chalkboard was like on the ground and everything to.
- 18:58She gets like sucked into it too.
- 18:59Right, Yeah. Yeah, it's a pretty impressive.
- 19:01It's like the whole chalk zone type deal right there.
- 19:04Yeah, that's that's what I thought of with it.
- 19:06It was like a combination of chalk zone and which Nightmare
- 19:10on Elm Street is it. Is it four or five where they've
- 19:12got like the so runaway students and they go to the town that?
- 19:21That is. Hates Frederick.
- 19:23Five. Yeah, that's five.
- 19:24Yeah, that that franchise. I know we've covered the the
- 19:29series and we've watched it plenty of times together, but I
- 19:31still have to like describe what the what the individual movies
- 19:35are. I just don't remember that you
- 19:36were calling Frederick. It's almost as we've talked
- 19:39about those. And then finally I have one more
- 19:42fun fact which at the time of its release, this movie had the
- 19:45longest human burn in cinema, which was 6 seconds for the
- 19:49stunt woman playing Mary Lou at the beginning of the movie.
- 19:52Could have been longer if, you know they brought her back on
- 19:54Firestone. Really.
- 19:56Could have kept. Going I know, yeah, yeah, I I do
- 20:01recall the Firestone from watching it the other night.
- 20:04It is impressive. I can probably guess which movie
- 20:07it is. That broke the record though.
- 20:09OK. I'm pretty sure it's Freddy
- 20:11versus Jason because whenever he gets a lit on fire in the
- 20:15cornfield at the party. That's a that's a really long
- 20:18one. I feel like that's close to 20
- 20:20seconds. Yeah.
- 20:21I remember us watching the behind the scenes and like, we
- 20:24were nervous. What?
- 20:25Because it's so different when you're watching the movie,
- 20:27obviously. Like, you know, there's stunts
- 20:29happening, there's special effects and stuff happening.
- 20:30But then watching the behind the scenes and you're like, no, Oh
- 20:32my God, he's really on fire. Yeah, it's real fire.
- 20:35And like they're it's just like that suit that's protecting them
- 20:38and that isn't gonna last. Yeah, it's terrifying.
- 20:42And it's especially terrifying because even though it wasn't
- 20:45came hotter, that came back to play Jason in that movie, like
- 20:49knowing his history with like stunts gone bad with fires, like
- 20:53it was like extra kind of like scary.
- 20:55Yeah, it's those things are always they're impressive, but
- 20:59behind the scenes footage of those are always terrifying for
- 21:02me cuz they they always have to drop on the ground and then
- 21:04people have to like rush to them to go save their life real
- 21:06quick. It was like the same as with
- 21:09Terrifier 2, like seeing her like and she's like still just
- 21:13like playing her fucking ukulele.
- 21:14Like set her, put the put the fire extinguisher on her.
- 21:18Sorry, we're going a little bit off Sophie here, but I remember
- 21:20like the behind the scenes of Terrifier 2 when they were doing
- 21:22the Casey scene. And we were literally screaming
- 21:25at the TV. We were like put.
- 21:27It out. No.
- 21:27I just remember like the Casey scene, like where he's like
- 21:29dismembering her and all that stuff, like she was doing her
- 21:31scene and they cut. And I remember one of the guys
- 21:33in the background going, because you're OK Are you OK?
- 21:37Like, legitimately worry that she was hurt?
- 21:40Man. Gnarly stuff.
- 21:42Yeah. All right, cool.
- 21:43All. Right.
- 21:43So Are you ready to talk about our good but ugly and absurd?
- 21:48Yes, I am OK, but not because I forgot to grab my sheets and
- 21:52here we go. I got my sheet now.
- 21:54Sorry. Grab this.
- 21:55OK. That guy.
- 21:56That boy. I I end up with all right so the
- 22:01good for this movie. I like that it is more horror
- 22:06focused than the 1st. Definitely.
- 22:08Yeah, while also still having prom be a major focus too,
- 22:12because. Yes.
- 22:13Prom took the front seat in prom night and like the killing and
- 22:18the horror and this, you know, all that stuff, it really was
- 22:21just kind of like an afterthought.
- 22:23It felt like, but this summer on I felt like they really leaned
- 22:25into it. I like that they went a
- 22:29completely different direction with it.
- 22:30I know it was not intended to be a sequel from the get go, but I
- 22:35like going another direction, like going straight up
- 22:38supernatural with it. And you know, like, I like when
- 22:42you can do spiritual sequels like that because you know, you
- 22:44can just keep making this shit and as long as you have like a
- 22:47common thread throughout like it, it still feels like it's the
- 22:51same thing. Kind of like the original
- 22:53thought for the Halloween franchise, you know, not being
- 22:56Michael Myers based. Yeah, I but they dropped the
- 22:59ball. See, they they did it in the
- 23:01third movie. They should have.
- 23:02If they did it in the second, it would have been fine.
- 23:04That wasn't, You know damn well that wasn't John Carpenter's
- 23:08decision. Give a shit.
- 23:09He he still agreed to it. That's his he still takes
- 23:12responsibility for. That.
- 23:15Yeah, I mean, this movie is, it's just like, I don't know,
- 23:20it's just kind of quintessential 80s cheese horror.
- 23:24Yeah. And I I just like have a great
- 23:25time with it. Like the characters are great.
- 23:27I like having this 50s era character in the 80s and how
- 23:31it's just so out of place with her.
- 23:33She's always like cracking these 50s quips.
- 23:36Like see you later, alligator. I felt kind of called out
- 23:41because we were playing a drinking game with it while we
- 23:43were watching it, and it's a drink to the 50s sayings and
- 23:46every time you're like you got a drink.
- 23:47I, like, never picked up on it because it's shit that I say.
- 23:52Maybe you're possessed, Jesse. Did you open any chess in your
- 23:56high school's proper? I don't believe that that's any
- 23:58of your business. I think it is at this point,
- 24:01since we're living together. Yeah.
- 24:04I mean, I just, I really enjoy this movie.
- 24:06I like it a lot more than the first one.
- 24:08I like the first one. I mean, the first one's a
- 24:09slasher, and, like, on paper it should be exactly what I like.
- 24:14But for some reason, the Supernatural wins this time for
- 24:17me. It's just a lot of fun.
- 24:18All right, this is exactly what I like for just like a fun
- 24:24horror movie, you know? It doesn't take itself too
- 24:26seriously. It's got some real gnarly
- 24:29moments. It's got some tense moments,
- 24:30like Jess Jess's death scene, that's pretty like, you know it
- 24:35it that Jess's death scene walked so every final
- 24:40destination death scene could run.
- 24:44You know, like the fake out, like that, the paper cutting
- 24:47fake out. I see The thing is with that.
- 24:49One though set the stage. I feel like that was more of a
- 24:51tease, like, hey, we could have done this, but now we're going
- 24:54to do this instead. Well, Joe Bob posits that it's
- 24:57classic for meddling. This is gonna be really
- 25:00expensive cuz you notice there's not a ton of special effects
- 25:03makeup work done. No, I think they blow their
- 25:06special effects budget, I would guess.
- 25:08On the actual visual special effects.
- 25:11Yeah, on the chalkboard thing like you were talking about,
- 25:13that was probably a big chunk of it.
- 25:14And also the ending where she kind of goes full carry.
- 25:18Yeah, yeah. Well, and that's the other thing
- 25:19that I like about this movie too, because it is written by
- 25:22like a horror nerd. Like, and I love that the
- 25:25homages and references are very blatant in such a way that
- 25:28you're not like, oh, they're not ripping it off.
- 25:29They're just being like, I love these movies.
- 25:32Yeah, like because you do have Carrie, you've got Exorcist,
- 25:35you've got Nightmare on Elm Street, you've got like, all of
- 25:37the classics are thrown in there and we're just having a good
- 25:40time. We just have teens that are
- 25:41being angsty and jealous to the point of murder and that what
- 25:45more do you want in a horror movie?
- 25:47Yeah, that's true. Yeah, he was telling a story
- 25:50about Ron Oliver contacting Wes Craven to get some advice while
- 25:54he was working on Prom Night 3. And Wes Craven says, give him a
- 25:57scare. Give him a boner, send him home,
- 26:00in that order. Fucking Wes Craven, man.
- 26:03I like his whole thing where like there's a kid that the
- 26:07reason he made Scream, he's like, I wish he would make scary
- 26:09movies again. He's like what the fuck he's
- 26:13like? God, he's like.
- 26:15Never watched movies until I was in college and I came out the
- 26:19gate with Last House on the Left.
- 26:21And you dare say that to me? It's just like a boy.
- 26:24Like a kid comes up as like, yeah, you should make scary
- 26:26movies again. Dude, kids are brutal.
- 26:30I remember our first scare fest when we were dressed as
- 26:32Ghostface and Casey and this like 7 year old comes up to me
- 26:35and goes you're supposed to be dead like OK.
- 26:39I mean, I can't argue. You were right.
- 26:43But fuck you for saying it. OK, but yeah, this is it's just,
- 26:48it's a fun movie. It doesn't waste any time on
- 26:51anything silly. Yeah, like, I mean, there may be
- 26:55a couple of lingering shots, but it it's a nice tight 97 minutes
- 27:00and 7 minutes of that is credits.
- 27:02Yeah, for sure. It's just it's fun.
- 27:04Yeah, it's fun. Straight up.
- 27:06OK, so bad stuff. Yeah, for your bad.
- 27:09I didn't have anything written down from a bad because I
- 27:12struggled to think of bad things watching this movie.
- 27:15I guess I have one cool. The only thing I can say is that
- 27:21it's not exactly super scary for me.
- 27:24OK? I just feel like it's more of a
- 27:26popcorn horror flick, which is cool.
- 27:28I love this too. But I also like to be scared.
- 27:32But I I don't feel like this was ever going to be a scary movie.
- 27:35What's your bad? No. 3 minute disco dance scene?
- 27:40No. You're right.
- 27:42I wish. That I think that needs to be a
- 27:44staple of every prom night movie.
- 27:47They did. I have friend down for my absurd
- 27:50have one of the extended songs. I remember that was one of the
- 27:53things that we talked about in Prom nights.
- 27:55So they did have that going for it at least.
- 27:57Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:59I mean, for real. I really.
- 28:01I can't think too much about it. OK.
- 28:05Yeah. I mean, that sucks.
- 28:07I wish that there was something I could say that I didn't like
- 28:10about it. OK.
- 28:12Do you have anything? I already said No 3.
- 28:15Minutes. Is that it though?
- 28:16OK, no, I wish. No, never mind.
- 28:20They do straight up have milk on the table.
- 28:22I want, yeah, The mom. The psychopathic missus.
- 28:28White wannabe. Yeah.
- 28:29Drinking her gallon of milk. She's.
- 28:30Straight up dinner carries Mom. Yeah, OK, well, I guess that's a
- 28:35good segue into the ugly, because I feel like she is a a
- 28:40pretty ugly character in this. She's a controlling mother using
- 28:44religion to hold her house down like that.
- 28:47And her dad is like he seems nice at first, but then he goes
- 28:52over there and kind of doesn't have any issues kissing his
- 28:54daughter and what the fuck? Yeah, so that's a gross scene
- 29:00because Vicky possessed by Mary Lou.
- 29:04So Mary Lou kisses Vicky's dad. Yeah, and Vicky's dad doesn't
- 29:09say no. And then Vicky's mom comes in
- 29:12and calls Vicky a harlot and a Jezebel and kicks her out of the
- 29:17house. Chases her out.
- 29:19Yeah, but not before she gets Margaret Whited.
- 29:21Yeah, he couldn't help, but he's just a man, you know?
- 29:24Gross. Yeah, gross.
- 29:26I'm just, I'm just trying to apply her a logic.
- 29:29Probably. She's like, yeah, well, he's
- 29:31probably, He's a fucking pig anyways.
- 29:33Yeah, so that's that's my ugly as well.
- 29:36OK. I would agree with that.
- 29:37I guess I would also say Josh and his sexual coercion.
- 29:43Of Kelly. Yeah.
- 29:45I I felt bad for her. Like, she, she's a mean person
- 29:49in this movie. And like, she did that and
- 29:52didn't get what? Like at the end I was like, you
- 29:54know what? Like I kind of that's gotta be
- 29:57like a low, that's a rock bottom you hit right there.
- 29:59Yeah, I mean, it's just it's bad.
- 30:01And like, even a bitchy character like that, you don't
- 30:04want to see somebody be sexually coerced in that kind of a way.
- 30:07No, it's just not cool, OK? You're absurd.
- 30:11OK, absurd. So I got Tutti Frutti is a song
- 30:17that plays absurdly along at the prom because it's at the very
- 30:21beginning. That's where they are.
- 30:25That's the first song we get whenever they're getting punch.
- 30:27And then she goes backstage with Cooper and they start making
- 30:30out, and then he goes back there to confront them.
- 30:32And then by the time they get back out, Tutti Frutti's still
- 30:35playing and people are still bugging.
- 30:36It must be the live version, you know.
- 30:38I don't know, Little Richard just going.
- 30:39Forward I guess for a long time I got a prom is prime for overly
- 30:45Christian mothers and horror because they got the Carrie mom
- 30:49in this right here and also Einstein themed prom.
- 30:54Oh my God what the fuck was up with them?
- 30:55Like having an like they just like on the wall wrote E equals
- 30:59MC Square. And then there's like a big
- 31:01picture of Albert Einstein in Josh's room too when he's like
- 31:06doing that. Yeah, I don't.
- 31:07I don't get the school's obsession with Einstein.
- 31:10Yeah, all right. Those are my absurds.
- 31:13My absurd is how very like Disney Princess Vicki and Craig
- 31:17arcs. They're both like, I'm 18,
- 31:21father, I'm an adult. I don't have to do what you say
- 31:25cuz I mean yeah, they technically they are legally
- 31:29they're adults, but your brain is still juicing itself together
- 31:33and you've not lived outside of your repressive household.
- 31:36And yeah, I agree that they need to get away and live their own
- 31:39lives and do their own things and college isn't the correct
- 31:41path for everyone. I just any time I see a 17 year
- 31:45old being like I'm an adult. I don't know.
- 31:48I feel like we need to like because that argument goes in,
- 31:52it's inconsistent. Like 18 year old enough to go to
- 31:54the fucking army and you know. Fight well and I think that's
- 31:57kind of. Fucked up too, honestly.
- 31:58But like, you know, it's just so many weird things, like, whoa,
- 32:02you're still a kid, but then at the same time you're also an
- 32:04adult and expected to be an adult.
- 32:06And it's so it's such a weird time.
- 32:08And I think for me, The thing is that we place it so much on age
- 32:12where it's like really, it's more about, like life
- 32:15experience. And you're suddenly expected to
- 32:18go from being like living in your parents house, like
- 32:23sheltered in a way from like the real world.
- 32:25Yeah, if you will. And then you have to have your
- 32:27entire life mapped out and figured out in the next 40 years
- 32:31planned and ready to go. And you aren't allowed to be
- 32:35stressed about it at all because it's like, oh, well, you're an
- 32:37adult now and you you still have to learn like I we need a phrase
- 32:43for that period between being a teenager and being an adult
- 32:46adult, you know what I mean? And people have different life
- 32:49experiences and they go through different things and we all
- 32:51reach that, like level of independence differently and at
- 32:56different rates. But I just, again, like these
- 33:00two kids, especially where they've been in very like,
- 33:04sheltered households, like. And I'm not saying sheltered
- 33:07isn't they were pampered and spoiled, But just where they've
- 33:11only been dealing with their families, thinking that they're
- 33:15adults in a way that makes me sad for them.
- 33:18Because like life, were it not for a demonic ex prom queen
- 33:25possessing one of them, life would still probably smack them
- 33:29down. True, in a way.
- 33:30Although I do have a theory that Craig was contacted by a certain
- 33:37resident of Sawville to. Become a lawyer.
- 33:41Yeah, yeah. Maybe be a shady lawyer, I
- 33:44think. He probably put him through law
- 33:45school. He got the Kramer scholarship.
- 33:47Yeah, he put him through law school.
- 33:49He kind of Gustavo fringed him. He's like, you know what?
- 33:51I'm gonna do this for you, but you're gonna work for me.
- 33:54Which is great, because Louis Ferreira is not only in
- 33:58software, but he was also in Breaking Bad.
- 34:01Yeah. Oh my God, you're right.
- 34:02I forgot about that. That keeps surprising.
- 34:05Me. Yeah.
- 34:06He's a returnee to the show. Yeah, he's art, by the way.
- 34:10Yeah. And saw.
- 34:11Yeah. OK, so time to rate.
- 34:15Yep. All right.
- 34:16I really enjoy this movie. I had a great time with it.
- 34:19I think I'd give this A8. Eight.
- 34:25I was thinking 8 1/2. OK, so 8.25 for starting
- 34:29average. I could be convinced to join you
- 34:31up there. So we'll see what happens as we
- 34:33talk about. It.
- 34:34We'll see. OK, OK.
- 34:36Ready to do it? I'm ready all.
- 34:37Right. Let's go.
- 34:41I forgot what this note meant for a second.
- 34:44The very first thing I have written down is Grandpa's been
- 34:47here, and I am of course referring to Grandpa from The
- 34:50Lost. Boys.
- 34:51He has pensions for stuffing critters because there is some
- 34:56taxidermy up in this church or up in this backstage area.
- 35:01I don't understand that. Why would they have a taxidermy
- 35:03in a high school prop room? Because Grandpa's been here, I
- 35:09don't know what you want me to say.
- 35:10When did the Lost Boys come out? Maybe they're doing like their
- 35:12live this year. Yeah, maybe.
- 35:14They're like, it's like high and everybody's like, let's do a
- 35:17play of Lost Boys. I mean, maybe, maybe it could
- 35:20be, yeah. Then we get to an outside shot
- 35:24at the church. It's raining.
- 35:25A woman runs in in her cloak. She does her confession.
- 35:28And as she's doing her confession, it's the same that
- 35:31we opened the show with. She writes for a good time
- 35:33called Mary Lou. Yeah, we cut to the 1957 prom.
- 35:38Mary Lou Maloney is with Bill Nordum, who is balding at 18,
- 35:43which is definitely possible but also unfortunate.
- 35:46There's one at my school that did it.
- 35:48Yeah, he he was bald in high school.
- 35:50He gets her ring with her initials on it.
- 35:53I I kind of like her ring, honestly.
- 35:56And he goes to get her punch and when he gets back, she's she's
- 36:00gone. It's 'cause she went backstage
- 36:02with Cooper cause he gets to the table, he's got his little
- 36:08glasses and some other guy comes back and he was like, Oh yeah, I
- 36:11saw Mary Lee go backstage with Cooper once.
- 36:12You guys break up anyway and he goes, we did it.
- 36:16Cooper had it again. So Billy, bust them up and he's
- 36:22like, we've been pinned for a year and you've never done this
- 36:25much. And literally all they were
- 36:26doing was making out and she was touching Cooper's Wiener over
- 36:28the pants. He was grabbing her booty pretty
- 36:32well there too, so that's a pretty significant step I would
- 36:36say. I mean, I feel like.
- 36:39All she was. Doing would have let Bill do it.
- 36:42I know she's like, he asks like why are you with him anyways?
- 36:45And she's like, she's rich and yeah, like he's got like a nice
- 36:50parents. Yes.
- 36:52Like, I don't know, like he's a square, like.
- 36:56And then she he's like you came to the prom with me and she
- 36:59goes, it's not who you come with, it's who you go home with.
- 37:02So Billy goes to the bathroom where all high school deals are
- 37:05done for the broken hearted and Eagleson opens up his his stall
- 37:13and provides Billy with the stink bomb.
- 37:15Stink bomb. That's nice.
- 37:16You know, that definitely feels like the place to go get the
- 37:19stink bomb right there. And also this is like the place
- 37:21where the principal comes in to give you advice for some reason.
- 37:24Or where the principal maybe has taken one too many shots out of
- 37:28his hip flask and I was like, I hate rock'n'roll.
- 37:30Music. It will never last.
- 37:32I like that. That was.
- 37:33Funny, I love this principle. Serves no purpose other than to
- 37:36come in and be like kids these days and then walks.
- 37:40Away. That really isn't.
- 37:41He doesn't even, like say anything to reassure Billy is
- 37:44like, did your girl leave you? Yeah, there's rock'n'roll.
- 37:47That was pretty shitty. Yeah, Tutti, Fruity or some
- 37:49shit. Not having it.
- 37:53All right, so they do the announcement for who wins prom.
- 37:56Queen Mary Lou wins. Yeah, Billy takes it upon
- 37:59himself to go up. And what I had in question marks
- 38:02the rafters. Is that a rafter?
- 38:05What would you call that? So I'm not entirely sure what
- 38:07upper stage. So no, it's not an upper stage.
- 38:09It's definitely like something that they use probably to help
- 38:12with, like props and stuff. Every place that I've ever done
- 38:15any acting or dancing or whatever type of performance
- 38:19with has not had that particular type of walkway type thing.
- 38:24I guess Rafter would probably be the right.
- 38:26Terminology. Yeah, it seems like it would be
- 38:29something for a high budget school.
- 38:31Yeah, so. I mean, this school clearly
- 38:33values its theater department. Yeah, for sure.
- 38:36Yeah, they fucking. Taxidermy.
- 38:37Yeah, they taxidermy it. That's where they bury the
- 38:40remains of their students like. That's where they store all the
- 38:43souls of the dead people. So I mean Hamilton High, That's
- 38:48where Hamilton ends up being written.
- 38:51Lin Manuel Miranda went to Hamilton High, where he got the
- 38:55idea God damn something. Here Billy is not having any of
- 39:00it though. He goes up into the rafters and
- 39:02he's gonna drop a stink bomb to ruin the whole announcement for
- 39:06Mary Lou. Yeah.
- 39:07Does he know that they are he? Didn't even have to drop the
- 39:09stink bomb because the whole point of a stink bomb is it
- 39:11stinks up a room I. Think he overthought this?
- 39:14And well, I'd argue that he underthought it because he
- 39:17dropped something with a live fire onto his girlfriend.
- 39:22Yeah, and this is in the 50s and there wasn't a lot of regulation
- 39:25on how shit was made, so nobody gave a shit if clothing was
- 39:29flammable or not. God damn, that was fucking
- 39:32flammable, she clothing. Right there she went up, Ben
- 39:36Tramer style. Ben Tramer wishes he could get
- 39:39this kind of combustion without high speed collisions.
- 39:42Yeah, boy. Man, but this is where we get
- 39:45the sick, like, actual burning stunt that goes on and then it
- 39:50looks really good. They do a good.
- 39:51Job what they hear. And she, as she's burning to
- 39:54death, looks up and sees Billy in the rafters.
- 39:56So she knows it was him. Oh yeah.
- 39:58And I just so everybody's reacting like Billy is begging
- 40:02for somebody to help. My favorite is Cooper by the
- 40:06stairs of the stage. He doesn't even make it up the
- 40:10stairs. He drops at the bottom of the
- 40:11stairs and dramatically pounds. Come on, dude.
- 40:15Like she's still alive. Yeah, she's burning for at least
- 40:206 seconds. You can get up the stairs that
- 40:22quickly. Some fear burns, and she
- 40:24probably has some like lung damage too, because that's one
- 40:27of the biggest things of lighting on fire like that.
- 40:30I feel like a lot of people are like, Oh no, not Mary Lou.
- 40:33She's so sweet and kind. Nobody really wanted to help
- 40:36her. They all just kind of like, fuck
- 40:38her. Yeah, she's kind of mean
- 40:39anyways. So we cut to present day, which
- 40:43for this movie was 1987. A family is praying at breakfast
- 40:47time. Super Christian Breakfast is
- 40:49what? Which that's that's a good band
- 40:50name. Super Christian Breakfast.
- 40:52Oh my God. Alright.
- 40:54Nobody steal it, please, OK? Just the first.
- 40:56The first album is like Egos with Satan.
- 40:59Oh yeah. She tells her parents that she's
- 41:02going to be late today. She's got to go pick up a new
- 41:04dress for prom. It's senior prom.
- 41:06It's really important. She wants to look really good.
- 41:08And I love how she says this very confidently.
- 41:11She just looks at her father. Of what?
- 41:13It's her mother's case and her mother is like, by the way, I
- 41:16sign all the checks in this house.
- 41:18I own every single one of you, and you will just wear your
- 41:21green dress again. It's fine.
- 41:23It's just prom. She says, with a full pitcher of
- 41:25milk on the table. Like she's just, she's saying it
- 41:29while she's pouring it into her mouth.
- 41:30Like she's practicing ventriloquism.
- 41:32Or something. Yeah, she's like.
- 41:33Yeah, you're fine with the green dress.
- 41:35Yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm sure it's expensive, but, you know,
- 41:41like, let her have it. Let her, Yeah, just let her wear
- 41:44a different dress. Like I could get it if she was
- 41:46going to multiple Proms the same year.
- 41:47But fucking thrift it? Go to a thrift store.
- 41:51So Craig comes to pick her up and they stop at the diner where
- 41:55they have coffee. I guess this is their little
- 41:56morning ritual. Craig pours in a ton of sugar.
- 41:59Vicki drinks her coffee black. Feel that, And she has
- 42:03apparently been nominated for prom queen.
- 42:05And she has not told her parents because I'm sure that her mom
- 42:08would like lock her in the closet and make her pray if she
- 42:11found out that she was. I find it interesting that she
- 42:13got nominated because she doesn't really seem like a
- 42:15popular kid in school. Here.
- 42:18She's got her group of friends and nobody else really kind of
- 42:20talks to her. I'm imagining it's a world kind
- 42:22of like easy A or something or like the like Fellowship of
- 42:27Christian Athletes or whatever has like some of the popular
- 42:30kids in there. And so it's like, well, they're
- 42:32they're they're a cool Christian.
- 42:33Yeah, OK. I guess I could see.
- 42:35That, and Craig thinks she's a cool Christian too.
- 42:36And he gets her a new gold cross necklace to replace her very
- 42:40similar gold cross necklace. This one's got a little
- 42:42rhinestone in the middle, though, so yeah, you know.
- 42:45He did good, yeah. He did good and.
- 42:47She's like like, OK, we'll just wait till my mother hears about
- 42:51this, OK? I don't think that's your mom is
- 42:54an Ice Cream Babe. I don't think she's gonna.
- 42:56Be swayed by this did. You fuck him like.
- 42:59What the? Fuck he gave me in that course.
- 43:02OK, my next note is potato contraption Fells.
- 43:06Yeah, so Josh has like a fun little presentation about his
- 43:09potato. You know the whole like how it
- 43:11can conduct electricity and whatnot, except it explodes.
- 43:15While this is happening, Monica is talking about how she doesn't
- 43:18get a date and she's like, I'm a total babe, What's wrong with
- 43:21me? And one guy goes, hey Monica,
- 43:23can we talk after school? And she goes buzz off.
- 43:25She says get lost, asshole, and she looks over at Mary Lou.
- 43:28She's like, why don't guys ask me out?
- 43:29I love it. It's funny.
- 43:31Love it. Well, she's also talking about
- 43:33Josh up there. I think she's wanting to go with
- 43:35him. Yeah, but she like, thinks that
- 43:38he's beneath her, but also, she's weirdly attracted to him.
- 43:40Yeah, I mean, he's like part of their friend group, right?
- 43:43I think. I don't think so.
- 43:44I think he just is in classes with him.
- 43:47OK, I don't know. Yeah, I guess his relationship
- 43:50to these characters is kind of really loose.
- 43:51Yeah, so Bill Nordom is now the principal of Hamilton High.
- 43:55That's one way to address your trauma.
- 43:57He's also Craig's dad. Why would you want to go to the
- 44:00high school? Where did that happen and be the
- 44:04principal? I don't know.
- 44:06That's a terrible. Life decision.
- 44:09He calls Craig and he says you need to eat lunch and he's like,
- 44:11dad, it's 945, we've had one class and he's like, OK, well,
- 44:17I've got your dorm set up, you're going to be in this part
- 44:20of campus and I'm like, dude, you're not even going to let him
- 44:23pick his own dorm room? Yeah, you don't.
- 44:25Even let him. You're not letting him handle
- 44:27any of that. Did they?
- 44:29They didn't let me pick dorm rooms at college.
- 44:32Yeah, but like, still. It should have been like a thing
- 44:34where he was signing up for that shit himself, you know?
- 44:37Actually, I did. Eventually I got to pick
- 44:39McGregor, but I did in my first year.
- 44:42My first year, I was in the Honors Hall.
- 44:44Yeah, that was you. Had yours to sign for sure.
- 44:46Yeah. And they tried to tell me
- 44:47because I was like, up in one of the attic rooms and I had, you
- 44:51know, like the roof of the building was slanted, so my wall
- 44:56was slanted. And my RA tried to tell me that
- 44:59that's actually the ceiling, not the roof.
- 45:00So I wasn't allowed to have a poster there because we weren't
- 45:03allowed to hang items from the ceiling.
- 45:04And I'm like, it's literally 6 inches above my headboard.
- 45:09Yeah, that's really dumb. I never took it down.
- 45:11I only lived in that Dorma semester before I moved to the
- 45:14sorority floor. So, But yeah, so he's like, by
- 45:20the way, I'm not going to college.
- 45:22I'm going to take a gap year. I'm going to work.
- 45:25I don't know. Maybe I'll explore the trades.
- 45:27Maybe I'll sign up for the military.
- 45:29Maybe I'll just. I'll become a rock star.
- 45:32Who knows? Dad and Bill Norden flashes back
- 45:35to his own principal, talking about how rock'n'roll is a fad
- 45:39that won't last. Yeah, I maybe.
- 45:44That's why he's the principal at the school.
- 45:46Maybe that principal really had an impact on him and he's like,
- 45:49I want to drunkenly talk to a distraught teenage boy in the
- 45:53bathroom and that's the only way that it doesn't look suspicious.
- 45:58I mean, still looks suspicious. Yeah, he's.
- 46:02Yeah, I he is kind of. He's just weird.
- 46:06Like what? What's your boy do his thing, I
- 46:10guess. I, like, you know, one year off
- 46:11isn't going to kill him. Anybody.
- 46:13You know what? I mean, and here's the thing.
- 46:14I get the argument of, like, obviously I'm I I love school.
- 46:19I love learning. I continue to do school after
- 46:21finishing my undergraduate, stuff like and.
- 46:25But I also am fully aware that everybody's journey isn't the
- 46:28same. And just saying a blanket
- 46:29statement of you need to go to college and it needs to be right
- 46:32after you graduate high school isn't what's right for everyone.
- 46:35I think that was more of a true statement back in the 80s than
- 46:38it is now. Now it's kind of like the same
- 46:42as going to high school. Pretty much, yeah.
- 46:44Yeah. At this point, you pretty much
- 46:46have to go on for like a higher degree for it to make you stand
- 46:50out and like, yeah. OK, my next note is Vicky's
- 46:54friend is totally into her and this is Jess.
- 46:57I have a feeling that she's like, really into her because
- 46:59they're talking. She says, oh, I got to go to a
- 47:02doctor's appointment. And then like, as she's walking
- 47:03on a school, she's like, hey, hey, Vicky.
- 47:05And Vicky's like, yeah, she's like, I'll see you later.
- 47:09Like she just says in a way where I know that she really
- 47:12wants to be with her. See here's The thing is that I
- 47:16think it's more Monica that wants to be with her.
- 47:19Really. Yeah.
- 47:19And we see this like later on we'll talk about it when we get
- 47:22to it. I think Jess and Vicki are
- 47:25probably close and she cuz she's going to this appointment.
- 47:27What it really is, is like it's in obstetrics appointment cuz
- 47:32she's pregnant. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:34And I think she's wanting to tell Vicki about it.
- 47:38That could be. I think that's what it is cuz
- 47:40she's like very evasive. She's like it's just.
- 47:42She wants to tell. Annual appointment My mom makes
- 47:45me do, and then it seems like she's gonna say it, but then she
- 47:47just like she OK, can't do it in the middle of a crowd at.
- 47:51All you're probably right. I think you're right.
- 47:53Yeah, OK. So Vicki goes to the prop room.
- 47:59She's going to see if maybe she can find something she can
- 48:01repurpose there for the prom. That's.
- 48:02Such a weird decision. Why?
- 48:03Why would you go to the prop room to get a dress?
- 48:05Because her mom doesn't have to sign a check for that.
- 48:08That's true, but like, still, that's such a weird decision.
- 48:10But whatever. She finds a trunk and she opens
- 48:14it, and Mary Lou's soul comes flying out of it.
- 48:20Like, I don't. I don't.
- 48:21Is she fully released yet? I think she's like in the chest
- 48:25still. Or is she in the crown?
- 48:26I don't know. Stuff starts falling out of the
- 48:29trunk and then in the principal's office, Bill's class
- 48:33photo shatters. Yeah, And then he goes to look
- 48:36at it, and it shattered over Mary Lou's face.
- 48:38Yeah, And so then he's he kind of drives past the church and
- 48:42stares at the priest. So during our class, Vicki shows
- 48:48her friends the stuff that she found, and she's talking to the
- 48:50other, like prom committee people about maybe using some of
- 48:53this stuff to help decorate for prom.
- 48:56And then they're like, well, but maybe also that's in poor taste,
- 49:00since this is from 1957, which is the year that Mary Lou burned
- 49:03to death at the prom, and Jess goes, none of it fucking matters
- 49:06anyway. And she turns off so.
- 49:10Something's definitely going on with her, so Vicky goes to
- 49:13follow her to the bathroom. She's just in the corner crying.
- 49:16Yeah. And she says basically that she
- 49:19met this guy and she really liked him and she thought that
- 49:21he really liked her. But she hasn't heard from him
- 49:24and she's tried to get ahold of him and she's like, I've got
- 49:27some choices to make. And Vicki is like, yeah, I say
- 49:30you just forget him. And she goes, well, it's going
- 49:33to be hard to you because he left me something to remember
- 49:35him by. Yeah, that's that's going to be
- 49:39real complicated. Yeah, well, you think.
- 49:42But that night she's staying behind.
- 49:45She's tortured, artist and whatnot.
- 49:46Why? The fuck?
- 49:47Is she still at school at night? And the teacher there is like,
- 49:50all right, shut down whenever. You're going to lock it up when
- 49:53you're done. You're a keep the key kid.
- 49:55Your job. Don't put it on her, I fucking
- 49:58he gets. So get fired.
- 50:00It's just that's the culture that you cultivate when you go
- 50:03to the bathroom and start harassing your students about
- 50:06rock'n'roll like you ignore the sink bombs that are going on
- 50:09there. All of those transactions and
- 50:11you just like, all right, fucking lock it out.
- 50:12Yeah, I think once the school has decided that they're going
- 50:15to like, hide the evidence of a murder and a Trump that they
- 50:18keep in their props. And then hire the guy that
- 50:21murdered them as the next principal.
- 50:23Yeah, you're not really. It's not going to look too good.
- 50:29So she's there, she's cleaning up and she's about to lock up
- 50:32and she's looking at at the the stuff that came from the trunk.
- 50:36And she puts on the Cape and she looks at the crown and for some
- 50:40reason feels the urge to pop out the little diamonds in the front
- 50:45of the TR. Which, I get it, They do look.
- 50:47They look cheap as hell. Are you gonna keep it?
- 50:52I don't know. Maybe she was gonna try and find
- 50:54a way to make it look less tacky.
- 50:55No, maybe. I guess.
- 50:56I don't know. But it doesn't matter, because
- 50:58you know who doesn't like this one bit?
- 51:00Mary fucking Lou. This is her right off.
- 51:03Yeah, she starts playing her song on the radio and then grabs
- 51:07Jess by the Cape. And we know from the beginning
- 51:10that this Cape is hard to, like unbutton.
- 51:12So Jess is just being dragged, just being dragged towards a
- 51:14paper cutter, which is my worst nightmare because I have to use
- 51:17one of these that work pretty. Regularly and the thing slides
- 51:20open, so you think it's going to chop her up and then it gets
- 51:23right to it and then it stops, and then the cloak goes all the
- 51:27way up to the roof and gets tied up and she just gets.
- 51:30Hanged. It's very Nightmare on Elm
- 51:32Street. Yeah, Johnny Depp.
- 51:34Or not Johnny Depp, but the other one in the jail cell.
- 51:37Yeah, that dude. I forget about that.
- 51:38Yeah, and then she gets thrown through the window too.
- 51:40Yep, just for goodness. Yeah, just to make sure.
- 51:42And then tiara fixes itself. Yeah, I like that.
- 51:46Yeah. And Mary Lou's like, all right,
- 51:47get that shit back. The priest is praying and he's
- 51:51thinking about Mary Lou, the school.
- 51:55The next day they see like Vicki walks up and it's just Madhouse
- 51:59and they're assuming that Jess just like been alive to herself
- 52:05and Vicki's like, God, I hope this isn't the choice that she
- 52:08was thinking she had to make like.
- 52:10It was just a boyfriend. So they have the funeral in
- 52:15which God talking about. Like maybe this will convince us
- 52:20to take a look at things like the amount of violence on TV.
- 52:24Why did they even mention that? I.
- 52:27I would violence on TV cause you to kill yourself?
- 52:29This is a pet peeve of mine that I haven't seen in every funeral
- 52:32I've gone to, but I've seen it in a couple where, like, the
- 52:35person giving the sermon decides that they're going to, like, be
- 52:40morally superior and it's like, dude read the room.
- 52:42Now is not the time. Yeah, it's kind of a weird thing
- 52:45to do. Like hey, this is my time to
- 52:47shine. You all are listening to me.
- 52:48Here's some of my opinions. By the way, I think that this
- 52:51person might have gone to hell, so if you don't want that to
- 52:53happen to you, come see me like. This fucking person died with a
- 52:57Cape. Do you guys want to be like
- 52:59that? Don't watch TV, all right?
- 53:01Anyway, so Vicki goes and she finds Mary Lou's grave the next
- 53:07day, Kelly. She is also in the running for
- 53:12prom clan. She's a mean one.
- 53:14She's mean and she says something very rude about Jess.
- 53:17Like, she's like, you might want to take a note from Jess if you
- 53:19think that you're going to beat meet for prom queen or
- 53:22something. And Vicki calls her a fucking
- 53:25bitch. She says shut your mouth, you
- 53:27fucking bitch. And I wish that we'd had a
- 53:29bigger reaction from the people around her, because we know that
- 53:32this is not the type of language she uses and I wish they'd been
- 53:34like. I know everybody should have
- 53:36just been like, what the fuck? Everybody's probably relieved,
- 53:40though. Like God.
- 53:41Yeah, she's. I thought you meant that.
- 53:45They relieved that maybe Vicki was like, finally releasing
- 53:48sometimes. No, really.
- 53:49Like, really? That they finally told Kelly
- 53:52off. Yeah.
- 53:54So as she's walking down the hall, she recognizes the
- 53:57principle, which I mean, Vicki would obviously recognize the
- 53:59principal, but Mary Lee goes, hi Billy, that'd be so.
- 54:03She's like, who the fuck is? That and she has like a
- 54:05Nightmare on Elm Street moment where she's in the hall and she
- 54:08sees her bloody friend and thinks she's gonna die too.
- 54:11Yeah, She starts having just, like, hallucinations.
- 54:15It's it's kind of weird here. So at dinner, Vicki has received
- 54:20some forms from Weston U and her mom already opened them.
- 54:23And Vicki is says something to the effect of like, Gee, thanks
- 54:28for opening my mail. Pretty much that's verbatim what
- 54:30it was. Yeah, which was like, pretty
- 54:32tame for like, a teenager who backsessing.
- 54:35She started with some attitude. Yeah.
- 54:37Yeah, deserved. Yeah, it's deserved.
- 54:41This is how you help use teens from being teens into young
- 54:46adults. You let them do things like open
- 54:48their own fucking mail. Yeah.
- 54:50And she's like, well, anyway, I'm not going.
- 54:52Me and Craig are taking year off and we're going to work and
- 54:54probably live together and soon. Hope that's cool.
- 54:56Bye. So they end up getting into a
- 54:59big fight. Oh.
- 55:00Yeah, Mom prays about it. Yeah, and then that causes Vicki
- 55:03to storm upstairs. Where the ghost of Mary Lou
- 55:07forces her to put on dark pink lipstick like har.
- 55:12Wow, man, yeah, she I say with my, like, bright red lipstick on
- 55:16right now. Yeah, she's she's pushing the
- 55:18boundaries a little bit there. She she doesn't like it.
- 55:20She, like, snaps in or back into herself and then rubs it all
- 55:24off. Yeah, and so Josh asked Monica
- 55:28to prom And. I was wondering what that my
- 55:31note says reverse psychology smooches had.
- 55:33I'm like, what the fuck happened?
- 55:34Yeah, cuz she was like, well, if we were there together then
- 55:38people would think we're together, but I suppose we could
- 55:41be at the same place at the same time.
- 55:42And he was like, would you kiss me?
- 55:44And she goes, no. And he goes, well then we should
- 55:46probably kiss now and get it out of the way.
- 55:47And she's like, no. And he goes, well we're gonna
- 55:50kiss. So we can either do it now, or
- 55:52we can do it at prom when there are other people.
- 55:54So yeah, he does Jedi mind trick her into kissing her.
- 55:57She is also, I think playing into her, she's like, well, I
- 55:59mean, if we go, we might get caught up in the heat of the
- 56:02moment, might just actually kiss.
- 56:03And he's like, well, I mean, let's just go ahead and do it
- 56:05now and get it out of the way. Yeah, they both wanted it.
- 56:08Yeah. OK, so at gym class, Kelly hits
- 56:15Vicky with the volleyball on purpose.
- 56:18Nothing. Knock her out.
- 56:19Which is a really fucking hard hit.
- 56:20And also trigger like a nightmare vision of the
- 56:25volleyball net becoming a spider web.
- 56:27Yeah, that was weird. I forgot about that.
- 56:29I like that though. That was pretty cool.
- 56:31So Craig walks Vicki home because obviously the school is
- 56:35not gonna let her stay there after she just passed out in gym
- 56:38class. And Mom is very fucking rude to
- 56:40Craig, who's just like, you have a lovely home.
- 56:43You look very wonderful today, Missus Carpenter.
- 56:47Here's what happened with Vicki and she's like, I don't care.
- 56:51Get your scandalous hands off my daughter.
- 56:54Yeah, And then the dad's like, hey, you want to come eat
- 56:57dinner? And she's like, Nah, she's not
- 56:58going to have any confidence. No, no, no.
- 57:00What the mom says is that the dad says Oh yeah, OK, you're
- 57:05right. That's what she says about
- 57:06Craig. But then the dad is like, should
- 57:09we take Vicki to the doctor? And the mother says no doctors,
- 57:15only Jesus. Yeah, it's like she's like, no
- 57:17spending time with the words all she needs today.
- 57:19Like, really. And that's that.
- 57:23That's a complete rejection of science, which I believe is not
- 57:29in fitting with. God helps those who help
- 57:31themselves, but not my business. So Vicki does spend time with
- 57:37the Lord, and by the Lord, I mean Father Cooper.
- 57:40She goes and gives confessions and she's like, gives
- 57:44confessions. I'm not Catholic.
- 57:46She's had simple thoughts about her boyfriend.
- 57:49She's disrespected. Girl, she's 18.
- 57:51Yeah, it's normal. Yeah, this guy's probably heard
- 57:54this shit every single day. Like, Oh yeah, you want to like,
- 57:56yeah, it's. Like, that's pretty tame,
- 57:58actually. You're Catholic.
- 57:59You're supposed to be way older. Than this.
- 58:01It's totally normal. Disrespected mom.
- 58:04Also, have you met her? Yeah, that's also kind of
- 58:06normal. Probably.
- 58:07Also says by the way, on top of all this I've got hallucinations
- 58:11and I'm not sure if it's like demonic possession or
- 58:13schizophrenia. So, you know, maybe my mom won't
- 58:16let me see a doctor, so maybe you can help me with that.
- 58:18Yeah, it's like also this person, Mary Lou, something
- 58:21about her. I don't know what it is.
- 58:23So this kind of prompts we cut to Billy after this.
- 58:28He's unsettled. But Billy, he's now taking the
- 58:30picture of Mary Lou that cracked from before, and it's burning
- 58:32it. Yeah, so Vicky at home does a a
- 58:37drawing of herself and then does a drawing of Mary Lou, and then
- 58:41her bed sheets attach her and her mirror does a little wiggle
- 58:45and her door locks itself and her rocking horse gets even
- 58:48creepier. The rocking horse is so good.
- 58:51I love this thing. Dude, this rocking horse is
- 58:54already pretty fucking creepy on its own.
- 58:56But once it starts moving and rocking on its own and it does
- 58:58its little leg. With the tongue, yeah, and it's
- 59:01eyes. Man.
- 59:03OK, legit. Like this thing is actually kind
- 59:05of creepy. It is.
- 59:06I will say to that is actually pretty creepy to look at.
- 59:09And I like that they don't just use it this one time.
- 59:12Like it comes like, yeah, it's like an actual, like character
- 59:15in this house it. Really is.
- 59:16Because like later on, she's just riding it later and it's
- 59:18just kind of licking her fingers.
- 59:20Like, what the fuck is happening here?
- 59:21Yeah. Also, she's got Mario 64 type
- 59:24shit going on with her mirrors because they're all like ripply.
- 59:26Yeah, like go in there. It's a secret level Vicki.
- 59:31Dude, Yeah. So she goes to the cemetery and
- 59:34Father Cooper is there and she's like, hey, yo, what the fuck?
- 59:37And he's like, maybe we can do like a a mini exorcism.
- 59:40Exorcism, light. The power of Christ compels you,
- 59:44and the Bible explodes. So is it is it compelling?
- 59:49I don't know. Is it?
- 59:50Compelling. So Craig is working on his
- 59:53Yamaha and he says something. I forget exactly what the
- 59:58sentence is, but it involves the phrase God damn it.
- 1:00:02And doesn't realize that it's Father Cooper behind him.
- 1:00:04He goes sorry. So Cooper goes inside with Bill
- 1:00:09and they drink and talk about Mary Lou.
- 1:00:12I feel like this is another trope for priests is like,
- 1:00:15they're like, yeah, give me some alcohol.
- 1:00:17Yeah, it's kind of like a different version of like the
- 1:00:20corners that, like, eat to show how desensitized they are.
- 1:00:24This is a freeze. Drinking to show how like
- 1:00:27serious the situation is. Yeah, they're like, God damn it,
- 1:00:29I need. Me like this isn't even the
- 1:00:30blood of Christ. This is alcohol like.
- 1:00:34God made bourbon true. And he's like, well, you know,
- 1:00:39she died violently. And I've read that, like
- 1:00:41spirits, when they die violently, they become trapped
- 1:00:43in purgatory, waiting for revenge.
- 1:00:46So you know, you should probably watch out, Bill, because you
- 1:00:49you're the one that lit the bomb.
- 1:00:51Yeah, you you kind of fucked up. And he's like, I feel guilty
- 1:00:54myself. I'm like, well, yeah, you kind
- 1:00:56of are the catalyst for this. Like you didn't know and it was
- 1:01:00a bad thing to do, but you didn't kill her at the same time
- 1:01:02too. Like, I don't know why she would
- 1:01:04be mad at you. Here's The thing is that I think
- 1:01:06it would make so much more sense for Cooper to have gone on to
- 1:01:10become the principal and Bill to go on and become the priest.
- 1:01:15Because that makes much more like I feel so much guilt over
- 1:01:18having involuntary manslaughtered my girlfriend
- 1:01:22that I'm going to devote my life to penance.
- 1:01:25Yeah, it's something that I was thinking about too.
- 1:01:28However, I do kind of like that. I like that it went opposite
- 1:01:33from what you expect, Yeah. And also I think for storyline
- 1:01:35purposes, it helps us tie in things together a little bit
- 1:01:38more neatly with Craig and Billy and Vicki and Mary Lou.
- 1:01:42It makes all of that neater, and I get that.
- 1:01:46I just also think it's funny to look at the different ways that
- 1:01:49they dealt with their trauma, which for Bill, it's to pretend
- 1:01:53it didn't happen to the point of working at the school where he
- 1:01:58involuntary manslaughtered somebody and hid the evidence in
- 1:02:01a trunk in the prop room. Why?
- 1:02:04The fuck? I'm Weirdo, and I mean he.
- 1:02:08And all Cooper did was like make out with her beforehand and
- 1:02:12thrust his first against the post and still insist he sees
- 1:02:14the ghost like. Maybe that's what he feels.
- 1:02:16Sorry. He's like, I could have done
- 1:02:18something instead of banging my fists.
- 1:02:20What was I thinking? But he like Billy.
- 1:02:25I just haven't met Donna's. Billy.
- 1:02:27Yeah, he he he's like, we're different people now, which is
- 1:02:30true. Like, you're a totally different
- 1:02:31dude now. Both of you guys are.
- 1:02:33So Craig and Vicky are at the diner, and she's tired and she's
- 1:02:36stressed and she's a little snippy.
- 1:02:39Kelly talks to Josh and is asking him to fix the computer
- 1:02:44votes, and she offers $100 and he's like, I'm gonna need a
- 1:02:47little something more than that, sweetheart.
- 1:02:50And then in class, Kelly is shit talking.
- 1:02:52Vicky and Monica brought the 1957 yearbook for Vicky to look
- 1:02:57at, and Vicky slaps Kelly. God, yeah.
- 1:03:01Which? It was.
- 1:03:04It was satisfying. Yeah.
- 1:03:05Gets her detention, though. Mint did.
- 1:03:08She's there until 5:00. This fucking teacher doesn't
- 1:03:10care. It's just kind of the whole
- 1:03:12culture of this school. And then he's like, he's like
- 1:03:15just leave at 5:00. I don't fucking care.
- 1:03:17And he walks out. He probably went home.
- 1:03:19Yeah, and because of that, she gets sucked into the chalk zone
- 1:03:23without the magic chalk. She's just gotta hope she runs
- 1:03:26into Rudy at some point. Dude, what was the name of the
- 1:03:29little blue guy that was his psychic?
- 1:03:32I don't know. All I know is Rudy's got the
- 1:03:34Chuck, the Chuck, the Chuck, Chuck.
- 1:03:36It's a fucking rat. Yeah, I remember that.
- 1:03:39That was great. Boy, weird.
- 1:03:42Yeah. But she gets straight up sucked
- 1:03:43into that. And that was one of those codes
- 1:03:45where me and my younger sister are so spread apart.
- 1:03:48There were a lot of shows that we didn't like, didn't overlap
- 1:03:52us generationally, but that was one that we both actually
- 1:03:56enjoyed watching after school together, yeah.
- 1:03:58That one did at the right time for that.
- 1:04:00OK, all right. Vicki gives another
- 1:04:03confessional, except this time she asks Father Cooper, will you
- 1:04:06fuck me? Which?
- 1:04:08And then she, she repeats Mary Lou's confessional from the
- 1:04:12beginning. Well, she's not going to get
- 1:04:13that. Yeah, but whatever.
- 1:04:15She attacks through the little great thingy and stabs him and
- 1:04:20she said, and the worst thing about happiness or is I didn't
- 1:04:23get any wings. Oh God, I love that.
- 1:04:25Because she she's like, yeah, there's no heaven.
- 1:04:27It's just purgatory and the thing that pissed me off the
- 1:04:30most. No fucking wings.
- 1:04:32I was really hoping that we were going to get because this was
- 1:04:34referenced and I think both Heather's and Scream Queens
- 1:04:38about dinosaurs being in the afterlife.
- 1:04:42What? Wasn't that?
- 1:04:43Did they? Don't do that in Heather's too?
- 1:04:45Heather comes back, Veronica Caesar, and she says something
- 1:04:49about how the afterlife is so boring and there's not even any
- 1:04:51dinosaurs. I know that's.
- 1:04:53I know that's for sure in Scream Queens, and I thought Scream
- 1:04:56Queens was taking it from Heather's.
- 1:04:57I might have it mixed up with something else.
- 1:04:59I don't know. It doesn't ring a bell, but I
- 1:05:00can't truly remember. It's definitely in Scream Queens
- 1:05:04and I feel like it's in something else.
- 1:05:07I feel like they were pulling that as a reference and my brain
- 1:05:10wants to say that it's Heather's, but now I'm
- 1:05:12questioning myself. That would have been a equally
- 1:05:15good line. You know what pissed me off the
- 1:05:16most? And no fucking dinosaurs.
- 1:05:18She just. Kills.
- 1:05:19Yeah. And that's where I thought it
- 1:05:21was going with this. I thought she was gonna be like,
- 1:05:23in the worst, where there's no fucking dinosaurs.
- 1:05:25That would have been hilarious. OK, so next day is at school.
- 1:05:29Vicki is now dressed in all 50s attire.
- 1:05:31She's filling herself. I love it cuz Craig shows up and
- 1:05:35he's like, I didn't pick Vicki up this morning and Mark was
- 1:05:37like, have you seen what she's wearing?
- 1:05:40It's literally like it's just AT length skirt.
- 1:05:42I mean, she looks nice, yeah. And it's very much dated, but
- 1:05:46it's still I think carries over to the.
- 1:05:47Yeah, and I'm like, she's not like like a powerhouse of
- 1:05:51fashion. You know what I mean?
- 1:05:53She wears high waisted jeans and sweaters.
- 1:05:55She just swapped out the jeans for a skirt.
- 1:05:58Yeah, And it's she kind of looks like somebody from Greece.
- 1:06:02So she's also really rude to Monica now, too.
- 1:06:05So Monica thinks, you know, she goes over there to get correct.
- 1:06:08She's like, come on, Craig, let's go.
- 1:06:09And then Monica's like, hey, wait up for me.
- 1:06:10And she's like Craig's with me. And then Monica's like, OK,
- 1:06:13fine, Jesus. So they're setting up for prom,
- 1:06:18and they're all concerned about how Vicki's acting and Josh
- 1:06:22references Linda Blair says that, you know, soon we'll be
- 1:06:26seeing her turn in her head. Through 60°.
- 1:06:31Mr. Craven is a fucking creep in class.
- 1:06:34And you know what? I'm happy he gets a Bunsen
- 1:06:37burner to the pee. Pee gets he deserves it.
- 1:06:39Gets his Wiener on fire. Yeah, that's that is a weenie
- 1:06:43roasting. I fully support.
- 1:06:45Yeah, it was weird. I like that.
- 1:06:46She gets her Boy Scout badge for that I.
- 1:06:48Like that Vicki was pissed off enough and retaliated in that
- 1:06:51way. I think it would have been
- 1:06:52better to call him out in front of the students.
- 1:06:54Like, hey, why are you grabbing my ass right now?
- 1:06:56Just like, yell it out. See.
- 1:06:57And here's the thing, too. Is that like, this movie wants
- 1:07:00to like, Which, OK, I don't support cheating, so I don't
- 1:07:05think it's cool that, like, Mary Lou was in a committed
- 1:07:08relationship with Bill and went and, like, made out with Cooper.
- 1:07:13But I also think that they're like overly moralizing her, like
- 1:07:18being promiscuous because it's not so much the promiscuity as
- 1:07:23it is, just like you're in a monogamous, committed
- 1:07:26relationship. Yeah, I don't think that they're
- 1:07:28trying to paint it in a good light.
- 1:07:29Like. I think they're just like, yeah,
- 1:07:31she's like, really like she's into.
- 1:07:34She's not really the type to settle down with a single
- 1:07:36person. Yeah, they just they try and act
- 1:07:38like she is like some harlot or something.
- 1:07:42And I like that. You know, instead of her just
- 1:07:45being like cool, this is another dude that's flirting with me.
- 1:07:47She's like fuck that. No, you're a creep.
- 1:07:50You think you're touching and 1718 year olds ass in the middle
- 1:07:54of class. That's not OK, yeah.
- 1:07:57It's so weird. That stuff is always
- 1:07:59uncomfortable. OK, so.
- 1:08:02Monica confronts Vicki in the locker room and she goes to
- 1:08:08shower and Vicki Lou. I guess we can start calling.
- 1:08:12Her. Yeah, She's kind of like.
- 1:08:13That she goes and flirts with Monica in the shower, and Monica
- 1:08:18seems kind of into it. Yeah, football naked.
- 1:08:21So I wonder, like, I wonder if there's an element of, like,
- 1:08:25Monica isn't getting dates not just because she's, like,
- 1:08:29ignoring the guys asking her out, but maybe like there's a
- 1:08:31part of her that doesn't want it to be guys asking her out.
- 1:08:33But she can't really, like, do anything with that in her
- 1:08:36heavily Christian town in the 80s.
- 1:08:38Could be. And I think she at most is like
- 1:08:41bye because she's definitely in the Josh.
- 1:08:43Yeah. So yeah, we we don't know well.
- 1:08:46What that we do know is that she's getting chased by a naked
- 1:08:50Vicky Woo right now, which, yeah, we weren't in the job
- 1:08:52thing. They made a decision to do this
- 1:08:54scene last second on. The day of filming, Yeah 'cause
- 1:08:57they were like, well, it feels more in character for her to be
- 1:09:01nude doing this chasing. And this is probably like one of
- 1:09:04the, like, most intense steps in this movie.
- 1:09:07Because she, like you, think that Monica's gotten away 'cause
- 1:09:10she's hidden in this locker and the music's playing and we just
- 1:09:14hear the like drip, drip, drip of the shower, like slowly
- 1:09:17turning off and everything. And right as the music ends,
- 1:09:22Vicky Liu does a little flick of the wrist and crushes the
- 1:09:26walkers together. She yeah, she hides in the
- 1:09:28Walker and I love how she's like a wop bop, a Doo wop bam.
- 1:09:32And it just like crushes together.
- 1:09:34Yeah, and that's a goose's blood.
- 1:09:35It is. Like is, which a creepy.
- 1:09:37Like, I think even the shots of her where she's just kind of
- 1:09:40peeking behind the walkers, just looking for her.
- 1:09:42And just moving. So slowly it's yeah, I like it a
- 1:09:45lot. So Vicki Lou gets aggressive,
- 1:09:49like trying to make out with Craig, who's like, hey, this
- 1:09:52isn't like you. And then she uses some slurs
- 1:09:54that I don't appreciate. And I'm not gonna repeat here.
- 1:09:58Billy wakes up, I think, and sees Vicki or Mary Lou.
- 1:10:05Yeah. In the office.
- 1:10:06No, no. Yeah, he's asleep in his office
- 1:10:09and he wakes up and sees her. She comes in to start talking to
- 1:10:12him. Yeah, he's.
- 1:10:13Awake. No.
- 1:10:14He, like, snaps awake. Really.
- 1:10:16Yeah. I think she, like, snuck in
- 1:10:17there. I wrote that he woke up.
- 1:10:19That didn't come from nowhere. OK, I didn't have that.
- 1:10:23I just have her going in there and confronting him.
- 1:10:26Yeah. Being like, hey, by the way, I'm
- 1:10:27Mary Lou. I'm Mary Lou.
- 1:10:29I'm gonna kill you. And I'm probably gonna kill your
- 1:10:31son and probably a bunch of other people too.
- 1:10:33So, but first I gotta go home and ride my creepy rocking
- 1:10:37course while it licks my fingers.
- 1:10:41Her dad comes in and says that she's beautiful and talks about
- 1:10:45his and her mom's prom and how much fun they had.
- 1:10:49And Can you imagine that woman having fun?
- 1:10:51And Mary Lou kisses him and mom walks in and sees that and calls
- 1:10:55Vicki a Jezebel. And I wrote Mary Lou.
- 1:10:58Carrie Weitzer. Yep.
- 1:11:00Just straight up pushes her through the door with her mind
- 1:11:02powers. Yep.
- 1:11:03Yeah. Does this kill her?
- 1:11:04Do you think we don't see her again the rest of the movie?
- 1:11:07Oh, I think it's heavily implied that she's dead.
- 1:11:10And they say that like her father was spared, except we
- 1:11:15like Craig at some point is going to call the house and it's
- 1:11:18going to be the outgoing, like leave a message is from Mary Lou
- 1:11:24saying that like, the Carpenter family is dead.
- 1:11:27That's true. Yeah.
- 1:11:28So I guess he is dead too. Yeah.
- 1:11:31Billy Wicks Craig and talks about Vicky.
- 1:11:37They like. They both talk about Vicky and
- 1:11:39everything that like has kind of happened.
- 1:11:41They're trying to figure out the mystery and what's going on.
- 1:11:44And he goes to Mary Lou's grave and finds Father Cooper buried
- 1:11:49there instead. And he cries and hugs his
- 1:11:52corpse. Yep.
- 1:11:53So now we're at a prom. Mm hmm.
- 1:11:56Josh has a present waiting for Monica, which is sad I feel bad
- 1:11:59for. Him.
- 1:11:59I know I do feel kind of bad. I also feel kind of bad for
- 1:12:04Kelly because her date is like, super fucking drunk.
- 1:12:07Yeah. At like, I get that feeling
- 1:12:10where she's just like, I just wanted us to have a nice night
- 1:12:13together and you're wasted and you're not gonna remember any of
- 1:12:15this. You're gonna behave like an
- 1:12:16asshole. That's kind of the prom thing,
- 1:12:19right? You just kind of get drunk and
- 1:12:20you just have a fun time. Yeah, except he's past the point
- 1:12:23of having a fun. Time, yeah.
- 1:12:25He's yeah, he's that like, God, nobody wants to be around this
- 1:12:28guy kind of drunk. Yeah.
- 1:12:31Let's see, Josh. Billy goes to his office where
- 1:12:34he keeps his gun, because again, he's the worst principal on the
- 1:12:37face of the planet, Yeah. He grabbed the gun and he's
- 1:12:39like, alright, I'm shooting her in front of all of my students
- 1:12:42and he dies. I know he doesn't even like.
- 1:12:46You're not even editorializing it.
- 1:12:48That's exactly what he does. I like to imagine like he goes
- 1:12:52over there, shoots her, and then he goes up to the microphone.
- 1:12:54He's like y'all know who he hired and then he drops the mic.
- 1:12:58It's just like everybody's like, you know what?
- 1:13:00Honest on my resume. Yeah, like, very clearly written
- 1:13:04right there. Killed Mary Woo.
- 1:13:06At. Senior year Want to redeem
- 1:13:08myself? Kills women at prom hired.
- 1:13:12Yeah, I like killed woman at prom.
- 1:13:16Wants to be hired. Redemption Arc question mark.
- 1:13:19Killed principal. Talked to me in bathroom.
- 1:13:22Killed woman at prom. I would like to talk to boys in
- 1:13:25bathroom. Would like to kill girls at
- 1:13:27prom. Yeah, so, like, what are your
- 1:13:28goals? Like, what would you like to
- 1:13:29bring to this? Well, I'd like to continue the
- 1:13:31tradition of talking to boys and.
- 1:13:32I know what Hamilton High's real legacy is and I'm prepared to
- 1:13:36carry it on. Yeah, OK.
- 1:13:38I don't think any of this has actually happened yet.
- 1:13:40Though no, because first we have Josh in his like little nerd
- 1:13:45booth where he's got to go calculate the votes but Monica
- 1:13:48comes in and he's like, well you know the price and she sets some
- 1:13:52mints on the table and the rest is implied and he says so he
- 1:14:00goes to like change the boat and he says sorry Vicki so she would
- 1:14:03have won. And then he changes it to Saint
- 1:14:06Monica. Except then the screen changes
- 1:14:08itself and says dead wrong and he gets electrocuted with all of
- 1:14:13the special effects that the 80s had to offer straight from
- 1:14:17chopping ball and child to play. I love and they just like draw
- 1:14:21the little electric electricity on the cells obviously it's so
- 1:14:24cool. So yeah, it is revealed that
- 1:14:28Vicki is the winner. Yep of prom queen and.
- 1:14:31And that. So there's a person in the crowd
- 1:14:34who says, hey Kelly, how'd you blow it?
- 1:14:37That was actually Ron Oliver. That's so.
- 1:14:39Funny, yeah. I feel like he's like, I gotta
- 1:14:41do this like. Yeah, they had to do like some
- 1:14:43kind of a reshoot. Yeah.
- 1:14:44So he just threw himself in there and.
- 1:14:48So she goes up there, takes the crown, does her wave, and then
- 1:14:53Billy's like, all right, Bang, Bang, shoots her down.
- 1:14:57Bang Bang. And.
- 1:14:59My baby shot me down. I always forget that this
- 1:15:02happens, 'cause she falls to the ground and then suddenly his arm
- 1:15:07shoots out of her. Ass.
- 1:15:08No, no, she falls to the ground. Craig runs on her and he goes,
- 1:15:11Oh my God, Vicky's dead. Long love Vicky, but her body
- 1:15:17like splits open and an arm comes up and we get yasified
- 1:15:21tarman. Yeah, it was Tarman.
- 1:15:24It like Mary, like and we we spent, we had to pause them
- 1:15:29maybe because we spent like 5 or 10 minutes riding the interim
- 1:15:33between this prom and Return of the Living Dead, which would be
- 1:15:36like two months later in universe.
- 1:15:39Yeah, so you were like, okay. So Tarman goes to prom, has bad
- 1:15:45time, repossesses somebody, but not fully.
- 1:15:48What does his body do? He goes and he parties at one of
- 1:15:51the high schoolers. House climbs into the keg.
- 1:15:53That keg is taken too. Kentucky.
- 1:15:57Louisville. Kentucky.
- 1:15:57Yeah. Take into Louisville, KY, and
- 1:15:59put in the spare parts warehouse.
- 1:16:02Yep, whatever it's called. I'd argue that's a good time.
- 1:16:04That's a good prom, right? There.
- 1:16:05Yeah, I you know what? I'm gonna say it.
- 1:16:07I think we have our sequel. That's our dream sequel.
- 1:16:10That's our dream sequel. Is our dream sequel just Return
- 1:16:12of the Living Death? Our dream sequel is is.
- 1:16:15It the one that bridges those. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:18Yeah. All right.
- 1:16:20So anyway, it turns into like, Carrie yeah, it's full.
- 1:16:25She's just using her telekinesis to straight up attack everybody.
- 1:16:29She chases after Craig. She keeps sparing Craig for some
- 1:16:33reason. I think she has a soft spot for
- 1:16:34him. Yeah, I think that's, I think
- 1:16:36that maybe we're meant to think that's like the little bit of
- 1:16:39Vicky that's still in there. Yeah, I think so, yeah.
- 1:16:42It makes it down to the prop room and she sees Josh's body,
- 1:16:46which does the 360. Yeah, his his head is like 180
- 1:16:50from where it should be and I was like character.
- 1:16:52They predicted it was on. Dove, Vicki set the door.
- 1:16:55Comes in hugs. Craig.
- 1:16:56She's crying and she's like Mary Lou's.
- 1:16:59Gosh, it's okay. Except actually she is still
- 1:17:03Mary Lou. See the glove and she the glove
- 1:17:06and the ring with the ML on it. Yeah, and what the fuck is this?
- 1:17:10I I wrote Mary Lou through, though try sucking Craig in
- 1:17:16chest. She opens up the chest for her.
- 1:17:20Chest, Yeah. Not her chest.
- 1:17:21For some reason I was picturing her just like shoving him in her
- 1:17:24boobs and like getting in there. It's like that scene from NIA,
- 1:17:31the demon, where Lenny quickly takes a lipstick.
- 1:17:34Yeah. Yeah, no, she's trying to put
- 1:17:36him with her murder evidence. That makes way more.
- 1:17:39Yeah. And then Billy appears.
- 1:17:44He's got the tiara and he's like, listen, this is all you've
- 1:17:47ever wanted. And he puts it on her and they
- 1:17:50dance and they kiss. And then we flash to an
- 1:17:54alternate universe where she wins dude prom queen and she
- 1:17:59doesn't die. Speaking of like callbacks,
- 1:18:02which is I guess kind of related to one of the movies you picked
- 1:18:05for here, they strip Evil Dead. Yeah, this is like the first
- 1:18:08person camera, just like. Yeah.
- 1:18:10Going through with the whole area, it's so cool.
- 1:18:14We're snapped out of that universe by the trunk slamming.
- 1:18:17And Vicki is she's inside and Craig lets her out and like,
- 1:18:25it's actually Vicki this time because he says, do you put
- 1:18:28sugar in your coffee? And she's like, what?
- 1:18:29No, that stuff will kill you, yeah.
- 1:18:30Which is what she was telling him at the diner.
- 1:18:32Yeah. Before.
- 1:18:33So they leave the prop dungeon because they like.
- 1:18:36They don't have to do any cleanup because they know the
- 1:18:38cops won't go down there. The cops never go to the prop
- 1:18:40closet it. Would be funny if the police
- 1:18:44showed up and they're like, what the fuck happened?
- 1:18:45They see Billy. What I was like Billy?
- 1:18:48You'll notice that the cause don't even stop the three of
- 1:18:52them, even though the whole student body just watched Vicki
- 1:18:55get murdered. And then stay unmurdered enough
- 1:19:00to revenge murder everyone else like.
- 1:19:03But the cops are like, oh, she's with Belle.
- 1:19:05It's fine. I was.
- 1:19:06Like Billy, What did you do Billy?
- 1:19:07Did you do another sink bomb? It's like Nope, straight up shot
- 1:19:10her. Billy, Billy, you're losing your
- 1:19:15touch. Come on, Billy, that's not
- 1:19:17original. You're supposed to go bigger.
- 1:19:19Yeah, come on. Did you get anything from the
- 1:19:21bathroom this time? Got crowned.
- 1:19:24So they get into Phil's truck. I didn't picture him driving a
- 1:19:28truck, but when they get in there he turns on some Ricky
- 1:19:32Nelson and it's a very like Nightmare on Elm Street because
- 1:19:36the door is locked and they go. Yeah, he turns around and he's
- 1:19:40Mary Lou. Mary Lou straight up took over
- 1:19:43his body now. So that's how the movie ends.
- 1:19:47Fuck it. You know what 9?
- 1:19:49You're bumping it to 9. I'll do the 8 1/2, yeah.
- 1:19:53So 875. Yep.
- 1:19:55Nice. That's a strong rating right
- 1:19:58there. It is a strong rating.
- 1:19:59We're starting prom, prom months off.
- 1:20:01We're real strong. Oh yeah, man.
- 1:20:02It can only go up maybe. I don't know.
- 1:20:05I hope so. I hope so.
- 1:20:09So, Talia. Wait, shouldn't I do change?
- 1:20:13Oh yes, you should do your change.
- 1:20:14Sorry. Let's see what would be
- 1:20:18something that I don't want to change.
- 1:20:19Yeah, what is something that you would change to bump your score
- 1:20:21up even further? That's a good question.
- 1:20:31I would have done the fucking beheading with the paper cutter.
- 1:20:37Go there, man. Go there with those kills
- 1:20:39because you did the the one with the locker was awesome because
- 1:20:41you see like the blood and guts spewing out of the locker
- 1:20:44whenever that happens. You know what I want, though?
- 1:20:46If they do the cutting with the paper cutter, I want it to show
- 1:20:50that, like, the line is off a little bit from the front of her
- 1:20:53neck to the back of her neck, because those things are always
- 1:20:55crooked. Oh.
- 1:20:56God, that happened to be. Yesterday at work I did.
- 1:20:58That I used one of these. I was like, fuck, I thought I
- 1:21:00had it all lined. Up there is no way to ever make
- 1:21:03those perfect, and it's because of like basically the principle
- 1:21:06of the fulcrum both which it works on because it's like I'm
- 1:21:09not going to go into the physics.
- 1:21:10It's OK. It it, those never cut straight
- 1:21:13because of the way they're designed.
- 1:21:15But man, like, I think if they would have let the budget
- 1:21:20balloon a little bit, take it more advantage of those Canadian
- 1:21:23credits, let's get some. Wild.
- 1:21:24Kills, yeah, because they go off the rails with the union.
- 1:21:27Like they got potential with some good effects.
- 1:21:30I would have liked to have seen that.
- 1:21:32And Jessa's head would have been easy enough to do like a
- 1:21:35duplicate of because she was like 85% hair.
- 1:21:38Yeah, I know you. Just need like, a decent lick.
- 1:21:40You don't even need it to be that great because it's just
- 1:21:41going to be like, flying. Yeah.
- 1:21:43You don't really. Yeah.
- 1:21:45OK, so all right, So what did Talia think of this?
- 1:21:47So Talia spent a lot of the beginning of the movie outside
- 1:21:50running around. She likes to imagine a world in
- 1:21:52which all Proms are perfect and nobody ever gets murdered.
- 1:21:54So she didn't want to see Mary Lou burn for six seconds while
- 1:21:57she's. Gonna have a terrible time this
- 1:21:59month. Pretty much all of our prom
- 1:22:01movies are not gonna be well. That she came back in for the
- 1:22:04second-half. She wanted to see how Vicky was
- 1:22:06gonna deal with this demonic possession, but she was dealing
- 1:22:10with a demonic possession in our own house, which was Zoe
- 1:22:13fighting her own reflection and Talia.
- 1:22:15I could not abide by that. That's true.
- 1:22:16I forgot about that. She she had to keep going and
- 1:22:18breaking her abs, So she was. Zoe has moved over to fighting
- 1:22:21the dishwasher now. Well, 'cause she can see her
- 1:22:24reflection in that too, and. All of the things.
- 1:22:26So stove, the dishwasher, the windows, it's whatever.
- 1:22:28And I think she things. Anything she can see her
- 1:22:30reflection in at night, where she kind of only vaguely sees
- 1:22:34it, she's going to fight it. Probably a cab.
- 1:22:36She and she did watch this movie.
- 1:22:38I mean, she did that, but like, she came back in and she cuddled
- 1:22:41up for a little bit to watch it. So I think all of that said and
- 1:22:45done, I think Tommy would give this an 8.
- 1:22:48An 8 Yeah, all right. And now it's time for Zoe's.
- 1:22:54Who does Zoe think is the superior hunter?
- 1:22:57Superior Hunter Billy obviously had like, the most innovative
- 1:23:02ways of killing high. Schoolers, I mean he he goes to
- 1:23:05the bathroom to get supplies, he drops it on Mary Lou from above
- 1:23:09and then he stays at the high school to continue waiting to
- 1:23:13shoot people and or approach them in the bathroom and then
- 1:23:17like we. Don't even see he's going to
- 1:23:18kill more people after the fact too.
- 1:23:21Potentially Vicki and Craig Yeah, it's, it's definitely
- 1:23:25Billy Billy's the best owner. It's gotta be Billy, Yeah.
- 1:23:28OK, OK. Who did you relate to?
- 1:23:32Who? Did I relate to?
- 1:23:35I guess I would think that maybe I related to like Jess, not just
- 1:23:46cuz of the name, because like being the art student that the
- 1:23:49teacher would trust to like lock up the classroom even though
- 1:23:52it's like super fucked up. Yeah, and you know, maybe
- 1:23:55pulling the cheap looking jewels out of the crown to try and make
- 1:23:59them look a little better. OK, I could see.
- 1:24:02I could see that. I could feel that.
- 1:24:05Let's see for me who did it. I relate to.
- 1:24:09Fuck, man. I don't know, Josh.
- 1:24:11I guess. I don't know.
- 1:24:12Like, I I guess I just kind of related to his high school
- 1:24:17experience more a little bit, you know, like he he was just
- 1:24:22kind of there. Like, I don't know, like he
- 1:24:25didn't really like, he didn't really have a strong
- 1:24:30relationship to any of the characters there though.
- 1:24:32So I don't, I don't fucking know.
- 1:24:34This is a tough one for me to do.
- 1:24:35I can't really think of anybody. OK, I'll go with Josh because he
- 1:24:38was a nerdy guy, OK. You know, And I guess that's the
- 1:24:41most relatable person to me in this scenario, I also went to
- 1:24:46prompt Stag OK and he did too, technically.
- 1:24:50So there you. Go All right, We've already
- 1:24:54talked about a dream sequel, so that leaves us with a new
- 1:24:58tagline. I feel like the tagline should
- 1:25:01be it's not who you come with, it's who you go home with.
- 1:25:05Again. Again.
- 1:25:07It's not who you come in. Nope.
- 1:25:14I was going to try and make a like possession moment.
- 1:25:21Oh, boy. That's that's the tag.
- 1:25:23It's not who you coming, Mary Lou.
- 1:25:26That's not who you coming It's. Not who you coming, it's who you
- 1:25:31go home and. Oh God, let's see.
- 1:25:36Sometimes I need to think things through.
- 1:25:38Before I say that loud, come for the prom, stay for the principal
- 1:25:42executions. Come for the prom, save for the
- 1:25:45executions. Well, she'll be the prom queen
- 1:25:49and die trying. No, that's too similar to one
- 1:25:54I've already got. What about like if you if you
- 1:26:02don't like the punch, how about a little fire?
- 1:26:05She don't like the punch. That's pretty good.
- 1:26:08Yeah. OK.
- 1:26:10The only other thing I can't remember if it's an actual one.
- 1:26:17It was like, more of like, sure, like become prom queen or die
- 1:26:24trying. Yeah, I guess.
- 1:26:25That was that. Was the main.
- 1:26:27Tagline already. Guy that was good.
- 1:26:30I thought of that one too. Or, you know, I just you heard
- 1:26:35it at the beginning and stole it.
- 1:26:37All right, fine, we'll use yours.
- 1:26:38I can't think of anything better.
- 1:26:42They. Did a good one.
- 1:26:43They had a water. They had so many.
- 1:26:45Yeah, it's tough. OK, OK, OK.
- 1:26:51It's a review time. It is review time, so I found a
- 1:26:55review on IMDb. OK.
- 1:26:58I knew that we were both favorable towards this movie, so
- 1:27:01I found one that wasn't as favorable.
- 1:27:04Yeah. OK.
- 1:27:05That's good. This is a 2 for two out of 10
- 1:27:09and this was reviewed in 2020. This movie was all over the
- 1:27:12place, the spirit of a promiscuous high school girl who
- 1:27:15was killed 50 years earlier. No, that time that mask bad has
- 1:27:20possessed another girl in order to win prom queen and exact
- 1:27:22revenge. This movie was a mess.
- 1:27:25It was sacrilegious with lions in there paying homage to the
- 1:27:28Exorcist. Someone clearly had a bad
- 1:27:30experience at the Catholic Church as a child, and it was
- 1:27:33patently trying to imitate A Nightmare on Elm Street with the
- 1:27:35dreaming and bizarre occurrences.
- 1:27:37None of that was as bothersome as the incoherence as well as
- 1:27:40the digression from the original prom night with Jamie Lee.
- 1:27:43Curtis had nothing to do with evil spirits and paranormal
- 1:27:45activity. It was a mystery serial killer
- 1:27:47taking out everyone associated with a little girl's death.
- 1:27:50I don't expect the plot to be the same, but stick to the
- 1:27:53normal instead of paranormal. They completely shunned the
- 1:27:56serial killer narrative for some spook stuff.
- 1:27:58This movie was sloppy and even and just yuck.
- 1:28:02OK, I can get that like you want like it to follow the slasher
- 1:28:06formula. Also, I take it that this person
- 1:28:09might be religious, so they probably didn't really like the.
- 1:28:14Dude, I'm getting such a bad deja vu right now.
- 1:28:16Why? Holy shit no.
- 1:28:18I just remember being 447 and us talking about this and you
- 1:28:23saying I can see if you were religious not liking this.
- 1:28:26For one movie. I don't know.
- 1:28:30It's just deja vu. OK, sorry, I thought you were
- 1:28:33thinking like you remembered us having this exact.
- 1:28:35Decision. No, I'm saying that I'm getting
- 1:28:36deja vu right now. That's always weird whenever
- 1:28:41that happens, Yeah. But yeah, yeah, I mean, that
- 1:28:46makes sense. Like, I mean, I don't think that
- 1:28:49they're necessarily disrespectful to the religion in
- 1:28:50this at least. I just think that they are like
- 1:28:52showing somebody like a character that takes that their
- 1:28:56convictions a little bit too far and tries to force them upon
- 1:29:00somebody else. Yeah, and like, I think Vicki
- 1:29:02honestly like she was trying to find a good neutral ground of
- 1:29:05like having her religious beliefs while also still like
- 1:29:08living her own life on her own terms.
- 1:29:10She was respectful. I think it was a good way of
- 1:29:14showing, you know, how religion can be like, both a burden and a
- 1:29:18blessing, depending on how it's used and applied to your life.
- 1:29:21Yeah. When it's applied against you
- 1:29:23forcefully, obviously, like, that's a problem.
- 1:29:26But when you choose something like, think about, like Father
- 1:29:29Cooper, like it can be a means of, like, finding a safe space
- 1:29:34or a sense of control or meaning.
- 1:29:36So it just kind of all depends. Do you think this person likes
- 1:29:40Carrie, or do you think that they hate Carrie because of
- 1:29:43that? I don't know.
- 1:29:44They didn't even mention Carrie. They just talk about the
- 1:29:46exorcist. Yeah, that was the.
- 1:29:48I think maybe this person has some trauma with the church.
- 1:29:52See. Yeah, they they handle it a
- 1:29:54little bit differently in Carrie too.
- 1:29:56I think so. I don't know.
- 1:29:58But yeah, normally I am also a fan of just stick with like the
- 1:30:03thing. Like if I have a slasher
- 1:30:05franchise and they go into Supernatural, it's not exactly
- 1:30:10my cup of tea. But this one right here, I liked
- 1:30:12it because like, they didn't necessarily establish that
- 1:30:15pattern before. Yeah, it just, and I mean
- 1:30:19honestly like this is one of those that I kind of like, but
- 1:30:22it got tagged on with that franchise name because would it
- 1:30:26have been as easy to find or is interesting to like grab your
- 1:30:30attention and make you want to watch without having that?
- 1:30:33I honestly don't know. What was the original name of
- 1:30:36the movie in? The haunting at Hamilton High.
- 1:30:38Yeah, see, that's the only name. Yeah, but hello, Mary Lou.
- 1:30:41Prom Night too, Ryan. And also I watch Prom Night.
- 1:30:44Yeah, check this out. Sounds interesting.
- 1:30:46Yeah, exactly. It worked.
- 1:30:48It it did exactly what they were wanting it to do.
- 1:30:52Yeah, OK. Do we have listener reviews We
- 1:30:55do? OK, OK, so I have one I'm
- 1:30:59checking right now because we posted this a little bit late.
- 1:31:02Yeah, this weekend is all funky with our.
- 1:31:05Timing, Yeah. OK.
- 1:31:07So I got one here on Twitter from Kevykev.
- 1:31:10What's up? Kev says.
- 1:31:12I was 12 when this came out and I thought Mary Lou was one of
- 1:31:15the most Beautiful Creatures I've ever seen.
- 1:31:17Based solely on the poster, the movie itself is pretty damn wild
- 1:31:20and goes really hard conceptually.
- 1:31:22So many crazy moments. I love that aspect of it.
- 1:31:24Two thumbs up. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:31:27I I like that. This movie just, God, it just
- 1:31:29has fun with its premise. Yeah, you can tell it's a movie
- 1:31:32that's written by somebody who likes horror movies.
- 1:31:35They're not just writing cuz they're like, I like heard
- 1:31:37horror movies or an easy genre to write.
- 1:31:40Yeah, he's just like, I fucking love horror and I wanna make one
- 1:31:43of them. I think it would have been
- 1:31:44awesome, man, to see what they would have done had they given
- 1:31:47this person more money. I know it was their first movie,
- 1:31:50technically, I think so, like it was his.
- 1:31:53First writing it was. Maybe the director had more
- 1:31:55experience, I don't know. But still, like if they had more
- 1:31:58money, this thing could have been amped up so much.
- 1:32:01It could have been amazing. It's already amazing, but it
- 1:32:04could have been even more amazing.
- 1:32:05Yeah, OK And final review over on Instagram from Keep Saves.
- 1:32:12Who says I love this movie? The bedroom Horace is the exact
- 1:32:16reason why, but the fucking bedroom horse is one of my
- 1:32:21favorite things. God, it's so great.
- 1:32:23It. Creeps me out.
- 1:32:24I love. That it just has a tongue that
- 1:32:26just moves and it has the evil eyes.
- 1:32:28And I like that it becomes sort of companion.
- 1:32:31I feel like that thing had to have been custom made for her to
- 1:32:33be able to fit on it. I know, right?
- 1:32:35Like. Wendy Lyon.
- 1:32:36I mean, granted, she's a slip of a thing, but she's also a full
- 1:32:39adult. Yeah, she's.
- 1:32:40Full. She's full grown, like she's at
- 1:32:42least over 5 feet tall. Yeah, which most of those are
- 1:32:44made for children who are not usually that large.
- 1:32:48So, and she was pretty comfortably rocking on that.
- 1:32:51Thing. Yeah, it feels like it had to
- 1:32:53have been custom made for it to not look like the man we saw on
- 1:32:57his child's motorized bike. I kind of love one, honestly.
- 1:33:01I think that would be a great addition to have in our room
- 1:33:03here. The little rocking horse we're
- 1:33:05in our bedroom maybe. No, no, no.
- 1:33:10Sure. What if I what if you, like,
- 1:33:14come home one day this week and there's just, like, a big box
- 1:33:16waiting on her porch? I'm like, honey, you're never
- 1:33:19gonna believe the deal I got. Can you just picture your scout
- 1:33:21like laying on the saddle of the horse?
- 1:33:24I couldn't see Scout just straight up like rocking on it
- 1:33:27in the middle of the night. Like I wake up and hear like,
- 1:33:29oh, increase it, great. Great.
- 1:33:30Like she's making it. Scoot forward as she's rocking
- 1:33:33it. So she gets around the whole,
- 1:33:35yeah, it's a long time because it's got to rock its way over
- 1:33:38there. She would fully like use
- 1:33:44evolution, like kind of accelerated evolution and loose
- 1:33:47her legs. Yeah, yeah, no scouts.
- 1:33:49Whole thing with evolution. She's like, yes, please, let's
- 1:33:51make us as efficient as possible so I don't have to do this shit
- 1:33:54myself. And also just rocking over.
- 1:33:57Statues of domestication is not bad enough.
- 1:34:01Oh man. Well, I gotta get it now.
- 1:34:04It's gotta happen. Oh God.
- 1:34:06OK. So those are our reviews all.
- 1:34:09Right. Thank you, guys.
- 1:34:10Yeah, thank you. And I think that that's it for.
- 1:34:14Hello, Mary Lou. Yeah, movie number, one of
- 1:34:16promos number. One Travis, do you want to tell
