- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to today's episode of the Daily Writer Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Just like me, you probably get sucked into lists of books, movies, or music that other people have put together.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Now these can consist of things like the top ten movies of all time, the best fifty guitarists, the top 15 novels, the top ten books on writing, a ranking of Star Wars movies or Disney Plus shows or things like that.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And you know those lists are important because they keep people engaged and they give us some context of how to think about other people's creative work.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: But remember that human beings are the ones that made those curated lists.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Someone somewhere decided they were going to be a tastemaker and they decided to put their opinion out there into the world.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And the cool thing is that you can do the exact same thing, and there's great power in doing so.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: One of the best ways that you can serve your readers or your audience is not only by creating content like blog posts or books, but also by curating other people's content.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: There is so much material out there that it's pretty hard to wade through.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: How can we possibly make sense of it all unless there's somebody to help us?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Unless we have a tour guide through all the material that's out there in the world.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: So, whatever your area of writing is, think about ways that you can help your reader rank or arrange the very best material out there on that topic.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Help them understand what's worth watching, reading, or listening to, and what's not.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Become the person that other people turn to for leadership and guidance in your space or around your topic.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: As a creative and a writer, this is an important part of the way that you can have an impact on your genre or your topic.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: So don't just sit by and let other people be the curators and the tastemakers.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Take it upon yourself to be the one who helps determine the very best content in your field.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question if you were going to make a top 10 list of items in your field, what items would be on that list?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
