- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:13issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:14Hypnotherapist, Demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:18royalty Adam Cox. These recordings took place live
- 0:22from Evans Clinic in London's world famous Harley Street.
- 0:29So get yourself comfortable and enjoy today's episode of The
- 0:33Hypnotist. Hi.
- 0:40It's Adam here. Now.
- 0:41Have you ever? Been worried or scared or
- 0:46afraid? Of being rejected.
- 0:48Or. Abandoned if so.
- 0:51You might find this session. Helpful, or at least useful.
- 0:55I was working with a client that throughout their.
- 0:57Childhood they had a sneaking. Suspicion that they were a low.
- 1:02Priority as far as their. Father was concerned they didn't
- 1:06feel loved or wanted or supported or appreciated by
- 1:10their father. And it reached a point where
- 1:13they made a decision at a fairly mature decision at a young age
- 1:17of about 13 or 14, that they weren't going to tolerate this
- 1:23lack of love anymore. So they kind of cut ties with
- 1:27their father. And in doing so, it gave them a
- 1:30lot of clarity. They didn't have to second guess
- 1:32anymore. They could just have a clean
- 1:35slate. Now that's a very wonderful
- 1:37thing. But the problem is, is that it
- 1:39taught them that if there's any anxiety about whether or not
- 1:43they are wanted. Or loved or.
- 1:47Have the attention. Of someone else.
- 1:49Just by cutting them gives a lot of certainty.
- 1:54Now, it was a good decision with their father to do that because
- 1:57that decision was made over many years.
- 2:00But they were finding themselves doing that in situations where
- 2:03they might not have got a text message or a call in a few days.
- 2:08And then they would very quickly block or unfollow people to have
- 2:14that certainty. And what this session does is it
- 2:17makes them feel resilient and confident and even curious that
- 2:23if someone isn't giving them the level of attention.
- 2:27Or. Love or affection or just
- 2:31presence that they want. They can just be curious.
- 2:34They can observe that without having to rush to make a
- 2:38decision and still have the right to make that decision as
- 2:42to whether or not they want to invest in friendships or
- 2:44relationships of any kind. So this is very useful if you
- 2:48find yourself, let's say, jumping before you're pushed, if
- 2:53there is a fear of being abandoned, so you go first, then
- 2:56the essence of this hypnosis session might be quite useful
- 2:59for you. So this could be quite useful if
- 3:03you like the idea of working with me.
- 3:05What I'd encourage you to do is. There is a.
- 3:08Webinar that I've created that actually has lots of different
- 3:13ways of understanding how I work and what I do, what hypnosis is
- 3:17good for, what it's not good for.
- 3:19And there's two sets suggestibility tests that take
- 3:22about a minute each. So you'll find out if you're a
- 3:24great candidate for hypnosis or not.
- 3:27So if those kind of things appeal for you, check out the
- 3:30link in the comments and the description to schedule and
- 3:35register for that webinar. And there's a very special bonus
- 3:38of 10 downloads if you listen to the very end of that webinar as
- 3:41well. So check that out.
- 3:43For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:46won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 3:48Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 4:15you breathe in, breathe in a slow, long breath of pure
- 4:26relaxation. And as you exhale, allow
- 4:37yourself to release any feelings of stress, worry, any echoes of
- 4:49uncertainty. Just allow it to leave your body
- 4:56in that outward breath, breathing in that resourceful
- 5:04feeling of calm and relaxation. And as you exhale, allow your
- 5:16body to settle the calm, to relax, to connect.
- 5:32And your nervous system has been working very hard lately.
- 5:39It's been running that background alarm that has been
- 5:43consuming energy. But right here, right now, there
- 5:51is nothing that alarm needs to protect you from Here.
- 6:00There is only your breath, your own presence and genuine safety.
- 6:12And just notice things like the temperature of the room, the
- 6:20surface beneath you, feel solid, supported, check and hold your
- 6:31body weight without being asked. Your body can trust and support
- 6:42now. The.
- 6:46Deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 6:51And the more relaxed you feel the deeper you breathe.
- 6:56Each breath takes you deeper and deeper, relaxed, until you find
- 7:06a place within a place of calmness, a place of stillness,
- 7:14the centre of yourself that that alarm never actually reached.
- 7:23The place. Within where changes can happen
- 7:28and then ripple through your past and your future.
- 7:34To give you less. Of what you don't need and more
- 7:39of what you do. And you know that part within
- 7:50you, that part that became extraordinarily skilled at
- 7:58reading signals, sensing when someone's warmth was present and
- 8:07when it was withdrawing, of interpreting intention, when
- 8:16someone cared when they didn't, when they were interested, and
- 8:21when they weren't. And this skill was not a flaw.
- 8:29This was a form of adaptation to help you survive that younger
- 8:41version of you learning that relationship with your father
- 8:48where that consistent warmth was not readily available.
- 8:56Think of that younger version of you and how.
- 9:00They developed a. Finely tuned antenna for the
- 9:04signals that predicted whether emotional safety was coming or
- 9:09going. Subtle things like a shift in
- 9:17tonality, a few days with no contact, a change in pattern, an
- 9:29absence where presence was expected.
- 9:36And that young version of you had that antenna that picks up
- 9:42exactly the precision it was trained to do.
- 10:06A great deal of maturity, the ability to discern, to protect,
- 10:15to have boundaries. So when you think of that
- 10:20younger version of you, you can hold that idea with compassion
- 10:26and not criticism. This response was installed in a
- 10:32childhood designed to protect you, a person who criticizes
- 10:41herself for. Having a fear?
- 10:43Response that was built before she could build it differently
- 10:50is being unkind to someone that younger version of you who did
- 10:55exactly what they needed to do. The alarm was protection alarm
- 11:05arrived before you could protect yourself.
- 11:11And now as an adult, you have resources that that younger
- 11:17version of you didn't have, and therefore the alarm system, the
- 11:23antenna can recalibrate. And I want you to welcome that
- 11:36younger version of you. Perhaps think of a childhood
- 11:40home. I want you to meet them at your
- 11:45current age and see them. That child version of you, the
- 11:53one who first learned silence from someone could mean danger.
- 12:01Just allow that younger version of you to be present.
- 12:09See the posture and the facial expressions, the quality of her
- 12:15alertness. Because that part is still
- 12:23within you, still influencing, still trying to keep you safe.
- 12:30But give that younger version of you a hug.
- 12:35Tell them they are loved, they are important, and tell them
- 12:43they're not getting anything wrong.
- 12:52In fact, compliment them on their empathy, their emotional
- 12:59acuity, their ability to read the room, interpret expressions,
- 13:10delays, tonality. Maybe that child within is tired
- 13:22from needing to pay attention and watch all the time.
- 13:31So tell this younger version of you that you see them and you
- 13:36know why they've been doing this.
- 13:40Thank the younger version of you for keeping you both safe the
- 13:47only way you knew how. Tell them the situations that
- 13:58genuinely happened with your father are not the same
- 14:04situations as romantic relationships or even male
- 14:12friendships. Tell this younger version of you
- 14:17that you know they feel the same because the signals are similar.
- 14:23The silence, the uncertainty, the inconsistencies.
- 14:32But tell that younger version of you that you're an adult now and
- 14:37that you have resources you didn't have.
- 14:40Then tell that younger version of you that you can handle
- 14:48uncertainty without it being dangerous.
- 14:56That you can reach out and ask when you want to know something
- 15:03and the response doesn't have to.
- 15:05Be a particular. Way it can be what you didn't
- 15:10hope for and still be fine, you can handle.
- 15:16The truth. Not every relationship that
- 15:23doesn't work out is abandonment or rejection.
- 15:29Sometimes it's just a lack of compatibility and that's OK to
- 15:37tell that younger part within you that she can rest now.
- 15:45The watching, the alertness can slow down.
- 15:54That child within has been too responsible to tell that younger
- 16:02child that you are here now, you are paying attention and you can
- 16:07handle whatever comes and just allow that younger part to
- 16:14receive this. And maybe they seem to relax or
- 16:19smile that the weight of that responsibility on that childlike
- 16:26part within can finally be taken away from them.
- 16:38The child who learned to watch for danger is safe now.
- 16:45The adult you is here with resources, with voice, and with
- 16:51the capacity and capability to handle what comes.
- 16:57So the alertness and the watching and the avoidance can
- 17:02ease. Uncertainty in early
- 17:11relationships is not a signal of danger, just a natural.
- 17:18Condition of two. People still finding out about
- 17:23each other and your unconscious can install the capacity to be
- 17:32comfortable in that not yet known, the same way you already
- 17:39do with female friendships to the female friend.
- 17:46If they message for a few days and then stop, he doesn't
- 17:52trigger that same response. Therefore, your brain already
- 17:59knows how to be fine, how to not need to overthink to replay.
- 18:16What if the default is a relaxed assumption rather than an alarm?
- 18:27No need to analyse, and that anxious mind doesn't need to
- 18:34create certainty by running away or blocking.
- 18:46I wonder if your internal resources can feel that it's OK
- 18:54to not know, do not have certainty, do not need absolute
- 19:02reassurance that you can trust yourself that you will make the
- 19:09right decisions at the right time.
- 19:16With your father, you naturally reached a conclusion over a
- 19:26period of time when it was right to have that boundary.
- 19:31You already know the winning formula not to jump to
- 19:36conclusions, to accumulate sufficient experiences to know
- 19:45when a relationship no longer serves your need.
- 19:53It doesn't need to be an instant reaction.
- 19:56It can be a thoughtful choice. And don't forget that you have a
- 20:03voice, a direct warm. Adult voice and that you can use
- 20:13it. You can send a message, a voice
- 20:22note, you could call someone. I've noticed we haven't talked
- 20:33in a while. I wanted to check in as an act
- 20:38of self respect rather than a risk to be managed because the
- 20:44fear was always of the response. That by you.
- 20:52Creating certainty means you couldn't be rejected.
- 20:58If you had. Already done the rejecting, but
- 21:03at what cost? If uncertainty introduces a
- 21:14boundary before you really know intentions, what if these walls
- 21:26don't keep you safe but keep you separated?
- 21:34I want you to feel that rejection is only possible if
- 21:42you allow it, and that's based on interpretation.
- 21:50If someone doesn't want to spend time with you, you can respect
- 21:57it, accept it, and still not make it about you.
- 22:04That whatever happens, you will be OK.
- 22:09Your worth is not determined by someone else's evaluation of
- 22:15you. This will allow your unconscious
- 22:25to bring to mind a particular a particular dynamic that maybe
- 22:33you reacted too quick. The silence that's been
- 22:40triggering the alarm. Imagine something that did
- 22:46trigger you in the past now being in your future and notice
- 22:52how you meet it from this place of new perspective.
- 23:01Silence arrives, something changes.
- 23:05The antenna picks it up, but instead of the familiar cascade
- 23:10of overthinking and withdrawal, something different is
- 23:15available, a quality of settled curiosity.
- 23:22I don't know what this means yet and not knowing is OK and if I
- 23:30want to know I can simply ask. The voice is available if you
- 23:40choose it. Warm, simple, direct and
- 23:48whatever comes back. The foundation holds.
- 23:54The self worth doesn't fluctuate because the adult is handling
- 24:01it. You have so many resources that
- 24:12you didn't have when you were a child.
- 24:17The focus, the clarity, the creative thinking, the
- 24:23knowledge, the understanding, all belong to you.
- 24:31And that alarm can now be the equivalent of an e-mail that you
- 24:39may or may not read, rather than a warning of danger.
- 24:51The alarm was protecting a child who needed it, and the adult you
- 24:56are has resources that child didn't have.
- 25:01So allow the alarm to recalibrate to something subtle,
- 25:07harmless, just information. Uncertainty is not danger, it's
- 25:17simply not yet known. And you can sit with it without
- 25:27your nervous system interpreting it as a threat because you have
- 25:36a voice. If by not knowing, you ask
- 25:43knowing that you can handle whatever comes back, that is
- 25:48empowered. It's not empowered to run away
- 25:54to keep you safe. It's empowered to know that
- 26:01whatever happens, you can handle it.
- 26:06Reaching out as an act of self respect regardless of the
- 26:11response, because your worth is not contingent on anyone's
- 26:19response. You are the same person,
- 26:24capable, caring, valuable, whether the response or the
- 26:32reply comes or not. It's time to leave this place of
- 26:41stillness in your imagination. But before you go, give that
- 26:47younger version of you a hug. Tell them that you'll take it
- 26:52from here, using the resources you have now that you didn't
- 26:58have back then. And notice that child within has
- 27:04a gift for you, quality you had in abundance in your childhood
- 27:10that you've lost contact or connection with.
- 27:15Maybe it's something you used to believe, a skill, a capability,
- 27:20a quality. And see that younger version of
- 27:24you. Pass that glowing ball of
- 27:26energy, take it, place it to your chest, absorb it in, and
- 27:34feel you've rekindled a wonderful quality that you had
- 27:42in abundance before and just needed reminding that it's still
- 27:50is accessible to you. Say goodbye to that younger
- 27:55version of you as you float and drift back to the present.
- 28:04Take a deep breath in through your nose and down through your
- 28:09nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 28:12your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 28:15here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 28:21you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 28:28456. More alert. 7-8.
