- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Dude, they said I gotta come off the bench.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench, live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Cane Studio. Oh, no.
- 1:03Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in OTB. Here on this Thursday morning.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Getting ready for a couple of things this weekend.
- 1:15Speaker 4: LSU hosting Louisiana Tech and the New Orleans Saints heading
- 1:20Speaker 4: up to.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Detroit to take on the Detroit Lions.
- 1:24Speaker 5: I'm fired up.
- 1:25Speaker 6: Let's go.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Tyler Shug. MVP season.
- 1:31Speaker 6: Incoming?
- 1:31Speaker 5: Coming up.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Look at us. Look at us.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Who would have thought?
- 1:34Speaker 5: That's my fantasy draft name.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 1:36Speaker 6: Is it?
- 1:37Speaker 5: Chuck if you buck.
- 1:38Speaker 6: How do you spell it?
- 1:39Speaker 5: The way he spells it. But I spell buck normally.
- 1:42Speaker 3: That's Tetflix and chill.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that one.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's a good one.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I feel like I could never. We're playing each other.
- 1:47Speaker 3: I got Teteroa. Oh, y'all are?
- 1:48Speaker 7: Oh, we are?
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 6: Let's go. I'm RIP Lance Harbor.
- 1:53Speaker 3: You always are.
- 1:54Speaker 6: Every year.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It's so funny.
- 1:57Speaker 7: When it popped up, I just saw the name. I
- 1:59Speaker 7: was like, that's a Mets team.
- 2:00Speaker 8: Yep.
- 2:00Speaker 6: I mean, I don't want there to be a moment
- 2:03Speaker 6: where he's not resting in peace.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Well, now, I mean.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Bro, how about.
- 2:06Speaker 3: If I would have known, I would have gone, rest
- 2:08Speaker 3: in peace, Jonathan Moxon.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, how about.
- 2:10Speaker 3: True.
- 2:11Speaker 7: Johnny Moxon and Lance Harbor.
- 2:15Speaker 3: It's tough.
- 2:16Speaker 6: Was there a known third stringer on that movie? No.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Hey, you better watch out.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I'm thinking that Twitter was probably the emergency quarterback.
- 2:22Speaker 6: Yeah, you're probably right.
- 2:23Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:24Speaker 6: You're probably right. Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Twitter, you take the snaps.
- 2:28Speaker 6: Okay. Yeah, that's what it was.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 2:31Speaker 6: They had to have had a more long-term plan, though.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I don't think so. They're high school football.
- 2:36Speaker 7: They weren't big either. They didn't have a lot of
- 2:39Speaker 7: people on the team.
- 2:40Speaker 3: It didn't feel like a 5A school. It felt more
- 2:43Speaker 3: like a 3A situation. It did.
- 2:45Speaker 2: No, you know what? They referenced being 3A in the movie.
- 2:48Speaker 6: Okay.
- 2:48Speaker 7: Because he's like, Gilroy was 4A last year. Since they
- 2:51Speaker 7: moved down to 3A, they've been killing people. Yeah, so
- 2:54Speaker 7: they were only a 3A school.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Somebody, Darius in the chat said, mine is Bucked Up
- 2:59Speaker 5: and Shucked Up. That one's so good, too.
- 3:01Speaker 9: But I feel like ever since, Shuck If You Buck
- 3:03Speaker 9: was my fantasy name last season, too, but I feel
- 3:06Speaker 9: like ever since we asked him and he picked Shuck
- 3:09Speaker 9: If You Buck, I can never change it.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Like the man himself, from his lips to our ears.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Friend of the show. I'm Shador Shank Redemption in honor
- 3:17Speaker 7: of my favorite movie and favorite NFL quarterback.
- 3:20Speaker 6: Shador Shank Redemption, okay.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I love fantasy football. Is Shador your quarterback?
- 3:28Speaker 2: No.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you've got to have the guy on
- 3:29Speaker 3: your team.
- 3:30Speaker 8: I agree, which is why normally I switch after. Last
- 3:36Speaker 8: season in one of my leagues, I was Osaquon, you see.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Someone had Saquon these nuts.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Okay.
- 3:41Speaker 8: That's a good one. Buddy Mudd always does it every year.
- 3:45Speaker 8: He doesn't always get him, but he gets my.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Zach Ertz.
- 3:51Speaker 6: He says my nut Zach Ertz.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I've used my ball before. No, I've used that one.
- 3:57Speaker 7: I've used my ball.
- 3:58Speaker 6: Yeah, same one. It always makes me laugh.
- 4:01Speaker 7: So I'm in a league where your name's locked in
- 4:04Speaker 7: one time, and you can't change it after the draft. And, like,
- 4:07Speaker 7: there's a guy in my league, his name is Ridaculous.
- 4:10Speaker 7: And I was like, well, I'm taking Dak Prescott. And
- 4:12Speaker 7: he's like, give him to me. Trade him to me.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I'm like, why would you pick a name of the player?
- 4:15Speaker 2: I'm going to take that guy.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Well, you have Shador Sanders.
- 4:19Speaker 2: But he's not on my team.
- 4:20Speaker 8: If you're going to do that and name your team
- 4:22Speaker 8: after a player before the draft, you've got to take
- 4:24Speaker 8: him first round.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Whoever it is.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I was not going to take Tyler Shuck in the
- 4:28Speaker 5: first round.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I reached a little bit even on Ted in
- 4:30Speaker 4: our draft because I was like, I've already made my name.
- 4:31Speaker 4: I've already made my name. Take him in the fourth round.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Although he's good. Jackson beat... I didn't beat because he
- 4:43Speaker 4: still got... Jackson did well last night in our family
- 4:46Speaker 4: league and he was going against his mom. He sent
- 4:49Speaker 4: Our group chat, Michael Urban with the belt.
- 4:55Speaker 6: Oh, BTA?
- 4:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 5: How are you going to do that to your mom?
- 4:57Speaker 3: Tag Katie in there.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 6: It's only one game.
- 5:01Speaker 8: How many players could he have actually had? Did he
- 5:04Speaker 8: have a defense? I think he did.
- 5:06Speaker 5: He probably had JSN.
- 5:07Speaker 7: If he had Seattle's defense.
- 5:10Speaker 5: Or JSN.
- 5:10Speaker 3: He had like 20-something points already.
- 5:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 10: Fantasy.
- 5:16Speaker 6: Fantasy. You get feeling real comfortable, real good about yourself.
- 5:21Speaker 9: And then the one person that's supposed to show up
- 5:23Speaker 9: and show out has the worst game ever.
- 5:25Speaker 4: A.J.
- 5:25Speaker 5: Brown, I mean, he went out on the third. I
- 5:27Speaker 5: have him in our league.
- 5:29Speaker 8: I don't know if I've had a first-rounder make it
- 5:33Speaker 8: the whole season in a while.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I took B. John Robinson in both the leagues that
- 5:39Speaker 3: I'm in.
- 5:40Speaker 4: So if B. John goes down, I'm sinking with him.
- 5:45Speaker 4: We're both in the ship. We're going down.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Going down.
- 5:49Speaker 2: But if he's great, he got it twice. Wow.
- 5:56Speaker 3: What a double-edged sword. A little bit of a true
- 5:58Speaker 3: circle here.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Oh.
- 6:01Speaker 3: So I interviewed Bijan two days ago. And I don't know.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I asked him about Tua Tungvaluwa.
- 6:10Speaker 10: Oh, boy.
- 6:12Speaker 3: And Bijan's so good on the mic or whatever. And
- 6:14Speaker 3: it just felt like there was like a pause almost. Ugh.
- 6:17Speaker 3: And again, like maybe I'm looking too much into it,
- 6:19Speaker 3: but I was like, man, that was a lot.
- 6:20Speaker 5: No, there was a, let me find it.
- 6:22Speaker 7: Like he paused and was like, let me make sure
- 6:24Speaker 7: I see.
- 6:25Speaker 2: The right thing.
- 6:25Speaker 3: A little bit.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Let me get my media training.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Yeah, remember my training. He's going to say the right thing.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Like that's just who he is. And very intelligent, well-spoken.
- 6:34Speaker 4: It's almost like in that moment, I kind of felt
- 6:36Speaker 4: bad for him. And look, I know he's a Falcon.
- 6:38Speaker 4: I know it's a Saint show, but I'm just saying
- 6:40Speaker 4: he's a really good player, a good human being.
- 6:42Speaker 3: And it was like, pause, let me think. Compose myself.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Because you think about, like, the weapons that they have, London, Pitts, Bijon,
- 6:53Speaker 4: it's pretty good.
- 6:54Speaker 6: It's really good.
- 6:56Speaker 4: But, man, I just– even if Michael Penix Jr. was healthy,
- 7:01Speaker 4: I just don't think y'all can do it. That's why
- 7:04Speaker 4: I've said all offseason I think it's Tampa Bay and
- 7:06Speaker 4: New Orleans. Like, I don't trust Carolina right now either.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Their weapons are just not there. I don't think Bryce
- 7:12Speaker 4: Young– I don't think Bryce Young is at the very
- 7:14Speaker 4: bottom of the NFL, but I don't think he can
- 7:16Speaker 4: elevate you to go win.
- 7:17Speaker 3: A football game. So it really feels like.
- 7:21Speaker 6: So let's go back to Tua real quick.
- 7:23Speaker 8: I don't, I think, I feel like we did ourselves
- 7:26Speaker 8: a disservice because it was a very OTB story. Like
- 7:29Speaker 8: we did not talk about his burner account.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Oh, I forgot about it.
- 7:34Speaker 8: Like, honestly, that was, and I know this is old
- 7:37Speaker 8: news and I get it. And everybody's kind of heard
- 7:39Speaker 8: about this, but Tua got caught red handed posting from
- 7:44Speaker 8: his burner account.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Yeah. He didn't switch his page.
- 7:48Speaker 2: No, he didn't switch it to the burner.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 7:51Speaker 6: Which.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Come on. So he posted.
- 7:55Speaker 5: That brain is so scrambled.
- 7:56Speaker 6: It's so scrambled. Scrambled eggs, man. And that stinks.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I guess I don't get a burner. And like a
- 8:03Speaker 3: lot of athletes have them.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Have them.
- 8:05Speaker 3: KD's famous for having them. I guess I just don't get.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Who's famous for having them? Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant. If
- 8:12Speaker 3: I want to confront somebody, if somebody's like, hey. you
- 8:15Speaker 3: are horrible. Like you're awful. I'm either going to pop
- 8:17Speaker 3: off a joke or I'm going to be like the worst.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Am I right? Like I, from my account.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Or I'll like it. Like, so they know that I saw.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I think he's trying to hype himself up.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:29Speaker 8: He didn't get on that burner account to like argue
- 8:31Speaker 8: with somebody. He was like, Hey, you know, we're cheering
- 8:34Speaker 8: for you.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 2: We're proud of you.
- 8:35Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 7: Also, if you post it, think about like, we're kind
- 8:38Speaker 7: of creatures of habit. Like, let's say if Alondra makes
- 8:41Speaker 7: a post, she has a burner post, something positive. Everybody's like,
- 8:44Speaker 7: This is a positive comment section. I'm going to leave
- 8:45Speaker 7: a positive comment. I'm going to leave one. It's almost
- 8:47Speaker 7: like you're just trying to, like, self-reassurance, kind of. It's
- 8:51Speaker 7: an odd thing.
- 8:52Speaker 8: I don't know what it was, but it was funny,
- 8:56Speaker 8: but then you kind of look at it, and it
- 8:58Speaker 8: was like, man. If it was literally him with his
- 9:01Speaker 8: thumbs posting that from what he thought was a burner account, this.
- 9:04Speaker 6: Is almost sad.
- 9:05Speaker 5: No, that's what I was going to say.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Because of the messaging behind it.
- 9:07Speaker 9: I actually, like, I know we joke about it and
- 9:10Speaker 9: all that, but I actually feel bad for Tua because...
- 9:14Speaker 9: the internet is brutal and so are the people that
- 9:17Speaker 9: are on TV shows talking about how awful you are.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Like what I was looking for was somebody, I just
- 9:23Speaker 5: found it.
- 9:24Speaker 9: Um, but basically they were saying like, if Tua doesn't
- 9:27Speaker 9: get it together, if this doesn't go well for Tua
- 9:29Speaker 9: and he gets benched again, I'm told there's a strong
- 9:31Speaker 9: possibility the Falcons will do what the dolphins.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Did and cut Tua. They haven't even played a game yet.
- 9:35Speaker 5: And they're talking about cutting Tua.
- 9:37Speaker 9: Like, Yeah, maybe he's not the best quarterback in the league,
- 9:41Speaker 9: but he's still a person at the end of the day.
- 9:44Speaker 4: I have a big pet peeve, too. Look, you can
- 9:47Speaker 4: have criticism of somebody. You can have fair criticism of somebody.
- 9:51Speaker 3: You can evaluate somebody, their play on the field. That's
- 9:54Speaker 3: all fair. No doubt about it. It's what we should do.
- 9:57Speaker 4: But I do have a problem with somebody that has
- 9:59Speaker 4: never popped a pimple on a football field saying somebody
- 10:02Speaker 4: like that is awful or terrible in the way that
- 10:05Speaker 4: they bring their arguments. I'm like, okay, well, if you
- 10:08Speaker 4: believe that, that's fine. Show me why you believe that.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Bring up the tape. Show me the tape. Analyze the tape.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Show me where he's bad, where he's awful. And if
- 10:17Speaker 4: you can do that, I have no problem. But if
- 10:20Speaker 4: you just say it because you've heard it and you
- 10:22Speaker 4: think that somebody said it that you're like, oh, I
- 10:24Speaker 4: can take that and I can run with it, okay.
- 10:27Speaker 4: But you never did that. And I'm not saying you
- 10:30Speaker 4: have to be a player by any means.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 10:32Speaker 4: I mean, some of the best people that we have
- 10:33Speaker 4: in this business didn't play at that level. But there's
- 10:36Speaker 4: a way to form the argument, is my point, instead
- 10:39Speaker 4: of just saying, he's terrible. If you say somebody's terrible
- 10:41Speaker 4: and awful, you have to tell me why they are.
- 10:44Speaker 4: What did they struggle with?
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 6: And then you kind of also have to, like, say,
- 10:50Speaker 6: he's terrible at this level.
- 10:54Speaker 3: At this time.
- 10:55Speaker 7: At the highest level you could play at.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Because actually, he's, like, really good.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Who do y'all feel worse for? Tua or J.J. McCarthy?
- 11:04Speaker 7: Y'all see the news yesterday?
- 11:06Speaker 3: J.J.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Is, like, more of a D-bag than Tua, though. So I.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Tua is.
- 11:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 6: The burner talents of choice.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 9: Well, so his wife came out, and she was like,
- 11:15Speaker 9: I don't know how true this is. Like, it could
- 11:16Speaker 9: have just been, like, the wife... falling in front of
- 11:19Speaker 9: the bullet for the husband but she was like i
- 11:21Speaker 9: manage his accounts that was on me.
- 11:23Speaker 7: Did y'all see the the the jj news search string
- 11:29Speaker 7: yeah carson wentz is now the backup quarterback yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 8: It's great shocked i'm almost as shocked as that is
- 11:35Speaker 8: the whole vote thing no vote yeah and you're right
- 11:39Speaker 8: like Yeah, J.J.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Comes off a little bit more of a D-bag.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:43Speaker 6: After the story with Kyler about the high school.
- 11:45Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 6: Like, what was that?
- 11:47Speaker 2: But, like, Tua.
- 11:47Speaker 5: And calling himself nine.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Tua seems like a great person.
- 11:50Speaker 6: Yes. A great human, great family person. He is.
- 11:55Speaker 8: Loves the Lord. Does all the right things. But I
- 11:57Speaker 8: texted you after this, the burner thing happened. I was like, man,
- 12:00Speaker 8: what's up with people from Hawaii? They love a fake person.
- 12:02Speaker 5: They do love a fake person.
- 12:04Speaker 6: They love a fake person.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Truly.
- 12:06Speaker 3: You're not wrong.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I really do.
- 12:14Speaker 6: What? I'm just calling it like a secret.
- 12:17Speaker 5: They do love a fake person.
- 12:18Speaker 3: They really do.
- 12:18Speaker 2: God, what a wild story that was.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Holy man. Holy man.
- 12:22Speaker 2: He was doing very well for himself.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Yeah, he's on NFL Network. He does a nice job.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He's actually really good on there.
- 12:27Speaker 3: He's very put together. He's got nice suits.
- 12:30Speaker 4: And I appreciate that he's not super polished and we're
- 12:33Speaker 4: not super polished. But they're like, hey, we like what
- 12:36Speaker 4: you're saying. We like your vibe. We're going to put
- 12:39Speaker 4: you on TV.
- 12:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 8: I enjoy watching him when I've seen him. I don't
- 12:42Speaker 8: watch the NFL Network a whole lot, but when I do,
- 12:44Speaker 8: I've seen him. I've enjoyed it. But, man, he loves
- 12:48Speaker 8: a fake person. I still don't understand how that works,
- 12:51Speaker 8: how that happened. But he's owned it, and I appreciate that.
- 12:59Speaker 5: We love accountability.
- 13:01Speaker 6: I did a lot of dumb things in college.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Oh, the dumbest.
- 13:04Speaker 6: A lot of dumb things.
- 13:09Speaker 5: That's what you do in college.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Right. Matt did more. Matt did, like, a little more
- 13:14Speaker 3: than most.
- 13:14Speaker 5: It's okay.
- 13:16Speaker 6: What? I mean, what are you talking about?
- 13:20Speaker 3: I don't bring dirty laundry on air, bud.
- 13:23Speaker 6: No fake people, though.
- 13:25Speaker 3: No fake people. They were all real.
- 13:28Speaker 5: No fake girlfriends.
- 13:29Speaker 3: They were all real. What are you talking about? Matt
- 13:33Speaker 3: didn't have a girlfriend until he met Lacey. Don't know
- 13:37Speaker 3: what you're talking about.
- 13:37Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:41Speaker 6: Wear a poncho.
- 13:43Speaker 10: Sex.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Wear a poncho. ponchooutdoors.com slash offthebench to be specific. All right.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I do actually want to talk about the, I don't
- 13:56Speaker 4: know how we found our way to, I guess we
- 13:58Speaker 4: started talking NFC South to a tongue of my.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Loa, but I do want to break down a little bit.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 14:04Speaker 2: That was a good topic.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Saints and the Lions. It is One of the bigger
- 14:09Speaker 4: point spreads. I believe it's actually the second biggest point
- 14:14Speaker 4: spread in the NFL, I think, this weekend. I think
- 14:17Speaker 4: Saints and the Lions. It's a touchdown right now. So
- 14:20Speaker 4: we'll break it down. We'll preview that game. We've got
- 14:22Speaker 4: Ronnie Rantz also joining us here in about 15 minutes
- 14:25Speaker 4: in the studio. New Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame class.
- 14:28Speaker 4: So we'll break that down with Jumbo. All of that
- 14:30Speaker 4: coming your way here on OTB.
- 14:32Speaker 7: Off the bench.

- 15:36Speaker 1: 2007 champs, purple and gold to the core. This is
- 16:08Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn, Baton Rouge's go-to
- 16:12Speaker 1: for all things Louisiana sports.
- 16:16Speaker 9: Ooh.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:20Speaker 7: Okay.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Hadn't heard this in a minute.
- 16:26Speaker 7: It's a banger.
- 16:33Speaker 5: I wish I knew how to play guitar just for
- 16:35Speaker 5: this song.
- 16:39Speaker 3: There's a lot, yeah. There's a lot of songs that
- 16:40Speaker 3: would fall in that category for sure. Let's see.
- 16:43Speaker 4: We've got a couple things in the chat to catch
- 16:45Speaker 4: up real quick.
- 16:51Speaker 6: Let's see.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Happy early birthday, Tay-Tay. That's tomorrow.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Alondra, will you be at Don Juan's tomorrow?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Unfortunately.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Love Don Juan. I just can't do the cigar smoke, y'all.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Every season, I think I'm free of Don Juan. It's like, nope,
- 17:09Speaker 5: we're doing shows there again, which love it. Shout out, Clay.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I thought you went because you were a smoker.
- 17:15Speaker 10: No.
- 17:15Speaker 3: He smokes a pack.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I don't know who that is. It's cigar smoke.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Y'all, the first time I ever smoked a cigar, I
- 17:21Speaker 5: inhaled it. No, I'm not a cigar smoker.
- 17:23Speaker 3: There you go. You're right, Matt.
- 17:25Speaker 7: She's ripping heaters, not cigars.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Brambo inside the chat. Scone told Feinbaum to square up.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Matt C., are Scone and Feinbaum going to meet at
- 17:34Speaker 3: Sonic on Burbank?
- 17:37Speaker 6: Celebrity death match.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Dane, Scone needs to tell Marler to hit the road.
- 17:41Speaker 4: He is Feinbaum's boyfriend. Did we miss something between scone
- 17:47Speaker 4: and Feinbaum?
- 17:48Speaker 3: Wait, what's going on? Square up. I need the tea.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Wonder whose ankles would break first, scones or Feinbaum's?
- 17:54Speaker 5: Definitely not Matt's.
- 17:55Speaker 7: Also, if you're a real one, you meet up at
- 17:57Speaker 7: the Sonic right here on government.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Yeah, the Burbank one's a little too nice.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you meet up right here at Sonic on government
- 18:05Speaker 2: if you bought it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 4: If you really want to scrap, that's where you go. No,
- 18:10Speaker 4: Taylor's birthday is not today. It's actually September the 11th. Yes,
- 18:13Speaker 4: you heard that right.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Last day of 29. Okay.
- 18:16Speaker 6: All right, big 3-0.
- 18:21Speaker 5: You're about to hit your prime, Tay-Tay.
- 18:23Speaker 3: This is from Rob.
- 18:24Speaker 7: Cassie said I'm going to be unk age, which I
- 18:27Speaker 7: didn't really appreciate.
- 18:28Speaker 6: It's a good age.
- 18:30Speaker 3: It's a good age, though. It's a good age.
- 18:32Speaker 6: Being an unk is pretty cool.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Real quick, I do want to talk Saints and Lions. Matt,
- 18:37Speaker 3: is Clemson hydrated?
- 18:40Speaker 5: You were hydrating the enemy?
- 18:41Speaker 3: Not very.
- 18:43Speaker 6: Actually, the Olympic teams are hydrated.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Okay, but not the football. I was about to say,
- 18:47Speaker 3: it showed.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Makes sense.
- 18:53Speaker 6: In Olympic sports, it just means everything.
- 18:55Speaker 3: He said bald fight. I was about to.
- 18:58Speaker 6: Say, yeah.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Matt and Paul.
- 19:00Speaker 6: Bald fight. Not a hair in that ring.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Not one.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Ain't no follicle in sight. I ain't got a lot
- 19:05Speaker 3: of room to talk. Ain't no follicle in sight.
- 19:07Speaker 5: You got some follicles out there.
- 19:08Speaker 3: You got some follicles, bro. Um, God, I guess we
- 19:12Speaker 3: missed something. We'll catch up. It doesn't matter. Come on.
- 19:15Speaker 3: What are you doing? All right. So I mentioned it.
- 19:20Speaker 4: The only point spread that I think is bigger right
- 19:22Speaker 4: now than the saints and the lions is the chargers
- 19:25Speaker 4: and the Cardinals.
- 19:26Speaker 3: There's, there's two. Okay. So Brown's Jaguars. Oh, that would,
- 19:30Speaker 3: that went up to eight.
- 19:31Speaker 6: It's eight and a half.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Oh God. It went from seven to eight and a half. Okay.
- 19:35Speaker 9: Okay.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Uh, chargers Cardinals is nine and a half. That was
- 19:38Speaker 4: actually at 10. So that's come down a little bit.
- 19:41Speaker 4: I am all over that one, but okay. So Jags
- 19:43Speaker 4: and Browns eight and a half. So third right now,
- 19:47Speaker 4: and it doesn't like the Browns and Jacksonville, that makes sense.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Jacksonville won 13 games last year. The Browns aren't very good.
- 19:55Speaker 4: The Chargers and the Cardinals makes all the sense in
- 19:57Speaker 4: the world. Chargers won 11 games. Cardinals won three. I'm
- 20:01Speaker 4: surprised how big this one is. And I think Detroit's
- 20:03Speaker 4: going to be a good football team. Maybe, you know,
- 20:06Speaker 4: no bones about it.
- 20:08Speaker 6: But seven?
- 20:09Speaker 3: That feels like a big number.
- 20:10Speaker 4: You know, the Lions right now, they're going through some injuries,
- 20:15Speaker 4: certainly in the defensive backfield.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Two safeties, I believe.
- 20:18Speaker 11: Two safeties.
- 20:18Speaker 4: And, I mean, Terry Arnold, who got released, obviously, he
- 20:22Speaker 4: had an off-the-field situation. Like, that's three starters that aren't
- 20:26Speaker 4: in your defensive backfield to start the season.
- 20:28Speaker 8: Yeah, and we kind of get sheltered here in Louisiana
- 20:31Speaker 8: talking about the Saints a lot, talking about all the
- 20:33Speaker 8: positive things that are coming out of training camp, the
- 20:35Speaker 8: positive moves made in the offseason.
- 20:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 8: Yeah, I think we kind of get sheltered from the
- 20:41Speaker 8: fact of what the national reputation for the Saints is,
- 20:45Speaker 8: at least right now. They're still, let's not forget, they
- 20:49Speaker 8: were still bad last year. Yeah, they finished well. Tyler
- 20:53Speaker 8: Shuck finished the season well, playing very well as a rookie.
- 20:57Speaker 8: But still not a threat to be a contender, yet
- 21:03Speaker 8: we don't believe. You know, you can always... Magic can
- 21:05Speaker 8: always happen. You never really know. That's why you play
- 21:07Speaker 8: the games. That's why you play the season. But let's
- 21:10Speaker 8: still not get it twisted that the Saints aren't supposed
- 21:12Speaker 8: to be really good this year, at least from the
- 21:15Speaker 8: public opinion.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Now, the Lions are supposed to be. So I understand
- 21:18Speaker 3: the betting line.
- 21:19Speaker 8: Like, would you be like that upset if the game
- 21:23Speaker 8: finished 34-27? You'd say that's a pretty close game. But,
- 21:28Speaker 8: I mean, it's still seven points there, so.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I think it's.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Probably pretty good.
- 21:33Speaker 8: I mean, five and a half would be the bare
- 21:35Speaker 8: minimum I would see this game at at home. Detroit's
- 21:37Speaker 8: a very hard place to play.
- 21:38Speaker 3: It is. It's a warehouse.
- 21:40Speaker 4: I guess my whole point was to have the third
- 21:43Speaker 4: biggest line in the NFL this weekend.
- 21:45Speaker 8: Yeah, but what was the Saints when they did all
- 21:48Speaker 8: the rankings on the roster? I think, what are the Saints, 28?
- 21:52Speaker 4: I know that Tay-Tay put it in there a little
- 21:53Speaker 4: bit earlier today on CBS Sports.
- 21:56Speaker 3: The Saints came in at 24.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Which was behind the Bucs and Panthers, which.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Behind the Panthers?
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Memphis has to put this list together.
- 22:06Speaker 2: They hit the Bucs at 14.
- 22:08Speaker 5: They're not even going to get a 1,000-yard season from
- 22:11Speaker 5: Xavier Leggett.
- 22:15Speaker 4: I never, like, I'm obviously, this is to tell you
- 22:18Speaker 4: your phones are always listening. Like, I never talk about
- 22:23Speaker 4: the Detroit Lions, and I just had Lions NFL gear here.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Click on this. I don't like that.
- 22:29Speaker 10: I hate that.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 22:33Speaker 5: Hey, brother.
- 22:35Speaker 7: You and I were talking about it the other day,
- 22:37Speaker 7: and you mentioned that David Montgomery is going to be
- 22:40Speaker 7: a big loss for the offense. And then we were like, oh, well,
- 22:43Speaker 7: they brought in Isaiah Pacheco. Maybe he can do something.
- 22:46Speaker 7: Isaiah Pacheco's on IR.
- 22:46Speaker 3: IR, yeah.
- 22:47Speaker 2: A lot of injuries on that team. That's a big line.
- 22:55Speaker 6: Saints by seven.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Alternate line.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Some pretty decent odds on that. Running backs, yeah, it
- 23:02Speaker 4: certainly is an issue for the Lions. And it is
- 23:06Speaker 4: funny how quick it can flip on you. So the
- 23:08Speaker 4: Lions last year had David Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs.
- 23:11Speaker 3: One-two punch, boom.
- 23:12Speaker 4: You lose Montgomery, you trade him, you sign Pacheco, he's gone.
- 23:15Speaker 4: And so now you're looking at a couple of special
- 23:18Speaker 4: teams backup guys going to be the only other backs
- 23:20Speaker 4: in the backfield. Kind of like we talked about with
- 23:22Speaker 4: the Patriots. It's like, oh, we got a surplus of receivers.
- 23:25Speaker 4: Let's trade Kayshaun Booty.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You trade him. All of a sudden, A.J. Brown gets hurt.
- 23:29Speaker 3: You're wondering, how long is he going to be out?
- 23:31Speaker 4: Romeo Dobbs, look, it's one game, but he did not
- 23:33Speaker 4: have a great start to his Patriots tenure there.
- 23:36Speaker 3: So it's like, oh, man.
- 23:38Speaker 4: It's hard to ever think you have a real surplus
- 23:40Speaker 4: in the NFL. As soon as you do, you realize
- 23:43Speaker 4: how small the rosters are.
- 23:45Speaker 8: I'd be curious to know, if I could just go
- 23:49Speaker 8: back in time and take an injury away, what that
- 23:51Speaker 8: line would be if Jordan Tyson was fully healthy. Because it's...
- 23:55Speaker 8: the first game of the season, nobody's seen Tyler Shuck
- 23:57Speaker 8: play in preseason.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Like you don't know what the saints are going to be.
- 24:00Speaker 8: You certainly haven't felt the effects of the injuries for
- 24:03Speaker 8: the lions yet because they hadn't played a game.
- 24:06Speaker 6: The saints are going to have.
- 24:07Speaker 8: To do something to make people see, Oh yeah, they're
- 24:11Speaker 8: playing with a bunch of backups right now.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Now they got to go earn that.
- 24:13Speaker 8: But right. Jordan Tyson, I think we saw really early on.
- 24:16Speaker 8: That was a difference maker.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Yeah. That he's that type of special athlete.
- 24:20Speaker 8: I would, uh, I bet that that one injury alone,
- 24:23Speaker 8: that one player, and a receiver's never going to affect
- 24:26Speaker 8: the line that much. But first game of the season,
- 24:29Speaker 8: a lot of unknowns out there, some injuries, a first-round
- 24:32Speaker 8: top-10 wide receiver that has made an impact like he did,
- 24:35Speaker 8: I think that would have affected the batting line at
- 24:38Speaker 8: least by at least a point, point and a half.
- 24:41Speaker 4: So it is a matchup that is going to favor
- 24:43Speaker 4: the Saints in some ways, even though the line is
- 24:45Speaker 4: what it is.
- 24:46Speaker 3: I'm not here to pretend that.
- 24:48Speaker 4: The Lions don't have a great quarterback, great receivers, great
- 24:51Speaker 4: running back, good tight end. They certainly have ways they
- 24:53Speaker 4: can score the football. But when I look at their
- 24:56Speaker 4: defense right now, because of injury, they are beat up
- 24:59Speaker 4: a little bit. Now there's going to be some familiar
- 25:01Speaker 4: names on that defense, including Devin White. He was signed
- 25:05Speaker 4: to that team kind of right before, as camp's happening.
- 25:12Speaker 4: And Kelvin Shepard, I talked with him about this. He's like, yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 4: I went down the hall. I'm like, hey, can we
- 25:15Speaker 4: sign Devin White?
- 25:17Speaker 3: We need him.
- 25:17Speaker 4: We need a veteran guy. I know what he can do.
- 25:19Speaker 4: I've watched him play for a long time. So they
- 25:21Speaker 4: signed him. He ends up winning a starting job. So
- 25:23Speaker 4: that's something to pay attention to there in the middle
- 25:25Speaker 4: of the defense for the Lions.
- 25:28Speaker 3: But I like the Saints to cover.
- 25:29Speaker 4: We'll break down that game in more detail as we
- 25:32Speaker 4: get closer. Certainly tomorrow live from Rouse's on a football Friday.
- 25:36Speaker 3: But that line, to me.
- 25:37Speaker 4: A little too big for where both teams are right now.
- 25:41Speaker 4: All right, we will step away when we come back.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Rodney Rance is going to join us in studio. There's
- 25:47Speaker 4: a new 2027 Hall of Fame class for the Louisiana
- 25:50Speaker 4: Sports Hall of Fame.
- 25:51Speaker 3: He's going to break down who that is, who you'll see.
- 25:54Speaker 4: It is a star-studded class, and we'll have that from
- 25:57Speaker 4: Jumbo when we come back.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 26:00Speaker 3: All right, go to getgordon.com. Gordon McKernan, injury attorneys. It
- 26:05Speaker 3: is throughout the state of Louisiana.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Hey, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is in Natchitoches.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Guess what? They are there. They're in Natchitoches. They're in Alexandria.
- 26:14Speaker 3: It is 318-888-8888 there.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Here, it's 225-888-8888. Down with the Saints play. We're just
- 26:23Speaker 4: talking about them. It's 504-888-8888.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Okay. All the eights. Get Gordon and get it done.
- 26:31Speaker 6: I can remember that. 888-8888.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Or go to getgordon.com.
- 26:35Speaker 8: If you've been injured, car accident, truck accident, injured on
- 26:38Speaker 8: the job site, wherever it is, you don't play in
- 26:40Speaker 8: these things.
- 26:41Speaker 6: This isn't something you.
- 26:42Speaker 8: You know, you did a ninja get up out of
- 26:44Speaker 8: bed that morning and be like, I'm going to go
- 26:45Speaker 8: get injured.
- 26:46Speaker 6: No, that's not the case. It's an accident.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Things happen.
- 26:50Speaker 8: And sometimes you're not going to know exactly what to do,
- 26:51Speaker 8: who to call. We'll call Gordon McKernan, injury attorneys. Gordon
- 26:54Speaker 8: and his team here to help you get what you
- 26:57Speaker 8: deserve to fight for you and get that G guarantee.
- 26:59Speaker 8: You don't pay unless they win.
- 27:00Speaker 3: GetGordon.com.
- 27:12Speaker 10: Billy Ray was a preacher's son And when his daddy
- 27:14Speaker 10: would visit he'd come along When they gathered round and
- 27:18Speaker 10: started talking Pastor Billy would take me walking.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Out through the backyard we'd.
- 27:23Speaker 10: Go walking Then he'd look into my.
- 27:27Speaker 5: Eyes Lord knows.
- 27:28Speaker 10: To my surprise The only one who could ever reach
- 27:32Speaker 10: me Was the son of a preacher man The.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Only boy who could ever.
- 27:37Speaker 10: Teach me Was the son of a preacher man You
- 27:40Speaker 10: see what?
- 27:42Speaker 11: He was.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Yes, he was.
- 27:48Speaker 10: 2007 champs.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Purple and gold to the core. This is Off the
- 27:52Speaker 1: Bench with Hester and Flynn. Baton Rouge's go-to for all
- 27:56Speaker 1: things Louisiana sports.
- 28:05Speaker 10: Can I get away again tonight? The only one who
- 28:08Speaker 10: could ever reach me was the son of a preacher man.
- 28:12Speaker 10: The only boy who could ever teach me.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Was the son of a preacher man.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Yes, he was.
- 28:18Speaker 7: He was.
- 28:20Speaker 11: Yes, he was.
- 28:22Speaker 9: Yes, he was.
- 28:26Speaker 10: How well I remember the look within his eyes.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Stealing kisses from me.
- 28:32Speaker 2: On the slide. All right, welcome back in.
- 28:35Speaker 3: A little OTV.
- 28:37Speaker 4: We've got our guy Ronnie Rantz in studio here with us.
- 28:41Speaker 3: A new Louisiana Sports.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Hall of Fame class coming up in 2027, and it is,
- 28:45Speaker 4: as we told you, star-studded. A lot of names that
- 28:49Speaker 4: everyone is going to recognize. But before we get to there,
- 28:51Speaker 4: how we doing, Jumbo?
- 28:52Speaker 3: Good to see you.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Doing great, man.
- 28:53Speaker 11: Good to be back here and you two together in
- 28:56Speaker 11: the morning. You know, sometimes that doesn't happen.
- 28:57Speaker 3: It's a little bit of a, you know. I hear Matt.
- 29:00Speaker 3: I can feel him.
- 29:01Speaker 11: I've been in that situation, sitting in the chair for three,
- 29:04Speaker 11: four hours by yourself.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I did not sign up for that either.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 29:08Speaker 2: When I took the job, I said, Jake, you're not allowed.
- 29:10Speaker 3: To be out ever. By the way, I've heard him
- 29:12Speaker 3: say that lots.
- 29:13Speaker 11: I know.
- 29:13Speaker 8: I know.
- 29:14Speaker 4: Well, at the time, whenever we decided we were going
- 29:16Speaker 4: to do this, I wasn't on the NFL channel.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I was on the college channel.
- 29:19Speaker 6: Right.
- 29:19Speaker 4: And there wasn't this training camp tour that I was
- 29:21Speaker 4: going to go on. And so when I found out,
- 29:24Speaker 4: they're like, yeah, we're going to be gone for three weeks.
- 29:25Speaker 4: I'm like, how do I break the news to this guy?
- 29:29Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I was like– I'm good with being Robin. Don't
- 29:33Speaker 6: need to be Batman.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Hey, but Ronnie, more than anybody, you can appreciate this
- 29:38Speaker 4: because you were on the original Hanging with Hester.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Team as well. Getting him to show up every morning
- 29:44Speaker 3: has been very impressive. Because I was like, yeah. Yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 3: it means Gordie's family. I get it. I get it.
- 29:50Speaker 6: Hall of Fame?
- 29:50Speaker 4: No, we're not talking about Texas Hall of Fame. Louisiana
- 29:54Speaker 4: Sports Hall of Fame.
- 29:55Speaker 3: East Texas. It's such a big state, they split it.
- 29:58Speaker 6: Oh, that is.
- 30:00Speaker 3: That's true. That is very true. All right, now, Ronnie,
- 30:03Speaker 3: this is a great class.
- 30:04Speaker 4: It's certainly got a lot of names that everybody is
- 30:07Speaker 4: going to recognize. And guys, look, some of these guys
- 30:09Speaker 4: didn't play that long ago, which I think is cool.
- 30:11Speaker 4: It's a blend of old and new and people that
- 30:14Speaker 4: are very deserving, obviously, including... Our guy, Terrio, we talked
- 30:17Speaker 4: about earlier, who you can catch, obviously, every Friday on
- 30:20Speaker 4: AFR with Scone.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Terrio did a.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Lot of things at a lot of levels, going all
- 30:25Speaker 4: the way back to his days at Broadmoor. So good
- 30:28Speaker 4: to see all those guys get in. But just go
- 30:30Speaker 4: over the class because, again, there's so many big names
- 30:33Speaker 4: this year going in.
- 30:33Speaker 11: Well, first off, let me just kind of– I always
- 30:36Speaker 11: like to let people know the process, right?
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, you were just telling us, and I had no idea.
- 30:41Speaker 11: In order to be just eligible, in order to just
- 30:44Speaker 11: be on the consideration– You have to have played two
- 30:47Speaker 11: years of high school in Louisiana or two years or
- 30:50Speaker 11: more college in Louisiana or five years or more professional.
- 30:54Speaker 11: And so that's just to minimally to meet the standard.
- 30:57Speaker 11: And then from there, you know, the gatekeepers, the Doug
- 31:00Speaker 11: Islands of the world, the Kent Lowe's of the world.
- 31:02Speaker 11: will determine, really, if you make just the broad list.
- 31:06Speaker 11: And the broad list is about 160, 170 people. That
- 31:09Speaker 11: list gets sent to the LSWA members, 100-plus members, the
- 31:13Speaker 11: Louisiana Sports.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Hall of Fame Foundation board.
- 31:15Speaker 11: And from there, they vote and narrow it down to
- 31:18Speaker 11: usually a list that's a more manageable 50, 60-person list.
- 31:21Speaker 11: Keep in mind, over 20 sports represented, different categories, all
- 31:24Speaker 11: that kind of stuff.
- 31:25Speaker 2: And then.
- 31:26Speaker 11: We'll spend a Sunday afternoon in August and usually get together.
- 31:29Speaker 11: It takes about four or five hours to process to
- 31:32Speaker 11: go through those lists and come up with a class.
- 31:35Speaker 11: And you have some criteria, right? We're obliged through 2030
- 31:39Speaker 11: to have a high school coach. We also have to
- 31:41Speaker 11: have two veterans members, which are 70 or older folks
- 31:45Speaker 11: or people that have been on the ballot for 15
- 31:47Speaker 11: years or longer. So you have some categories, and you
- 31:50Speaker 11: can't have more than three from a given sport. And
- 31:52Speaker 11: if you have more than three, you can't have more
- 31:53Speaker 11: than two from other categories. So there's a lot of
- 31:55Speaker 11: rules you have to abide by. This year's class is incredible.
- 32:00Speaker 11: You guys being football guys, you'll appreciate the LSU tie,
- 32:03Speaker 11: which has Leonard Fournette.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Patrick Peterson.
- 32:06Speaker 11: I mean, Patrick Peterson will be in the Pro Football
- 32:07Speaker 11: Hall of Fame in a couple years, maybe even a
- 32:09Speaker 11: first ballot guy. And then I'm excited for a guy
- 32:12Speaker 11: named Henry Thomas. You know, I grew up watching Henry
- 32:15Speaker 11: Thomas in the 80s at LSU with a fantastic defensive lineman,
- 32:18Speaker 11: but mostly with the Minnesota Vikings. This guy has 95
- 32:22Speaker 11: or so career sacks. I mean, from the nose guard position,
- 32:25Speaker 11: there's only like two people, Warren Sapp and someone else,
- 32:28Speaker 11: I think, Aaron Donald, that have more sacks than he
- 32:31Speaker 11: does from that position that he played. So that tells
- 32:34Speaker 11: you how great he was and surprising it took him
- 32:36Speaker 11: so long, right, to get into the Hall of Fame.
- 32:38Speaker 11: So that's your three football guys, which are all unbelievable.
- 32:42Speaker 11: Leonard Fournette was probably one Alabama game away from winning
- 32:45Speaker 11: the Heisman, you know.
- 32:46Speaker 3: And then in baseball, I'm excited.
- 32:48Speaker 11: Because we don't often get two guys in, and this
- 32:51Speaker 11: year we got Ryan Terrio and Aaron Hill.
- 32:54Speaker 3: And people forget kind.
- 32:55Speaker 11: Of how great Aaron Hill was because Aaron Hill played
- 32:59Speaker 11: in the smoke era mostly, right?
- 33:02Speaker 3: That was our days in college.
- 33:04Speaker 11: He was the SEC player of the year. And then,
- 33:08Speaker 11: of course, three-year player from Texas. And then he went
- 33:11Speaker 11: on to have a great major league career, Silver Slugger
- 33:14Speaker 11: Award winner twice. I think he had six or seven
- 33:16Speaker 11: years where he had 100 or more hits. I mean,
- 33:18Speaker 11: he was a real big-time dude.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:20Speaker 11: He's working with Marucci over in Houston and still involved
- 33:23Speaker 11: in coaching baseball. And so also a couple of Northerners,
- 33:28Speaker 11: Lisa Ingram, who think about this, ULM in the Final
- 33:31Speaker 11: Four in women's basketball. I mean, that's how great she was.
- 33:34Speaker 11: She led them to the Final Four in women's basketball
- 33:36Speaker 11: in the mid-' 80s.
- 33:38Speaker 3: She's tight with Kim Mulkey.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Very good.
- 33:41Speaker 11: Was a big part of the WNBA in its early
- 33:43Speaker 11: infancy and all that as well.
- 33:45Speaker 3: And then Hank Tierney, the head football coach at Shaw. Legend.
- 33:49Speaker 11: Still coaching, 75 years old, fifth all-time in wins. I
- 33:53Speaker 11: think he's got 340 wins going into this year. He's
- 33:55Speaker 11: going to pass Don Shiles this year to fourth.
- 33:58Speaker 3: West Monroe, legendary coach. Yeah, I mean, Coach T.J. Finley
- 34:02Speaker 3: at Ponchatoula, won there, went undefeated.
- 34:05Speaker 11: West Jeff coached, I think, Marlon Favre, I believe, at
- 34:09Speaker 11: West Jeff.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Hello, somebody. Yeah.
- 34:11Speaker 11: So, I mean, like a legendary and a wonderful guy,
- 34:13Speaker 11: Holy Cross graduate. So Hank Tierney going in. And then
- 34:17Speaker 11: Jim Wells, you know, up in your neck of the woods,
- 34:21Speaker 11: cut his teeth in Shreveport, went to Jesuit High School
- 34:24Speaker 11: in Loyola, prepped as the baseball coach. Funny story about
- 34:28Speaker 11: Jim Wells. He came to Baton Rouge as an assistant coach,
- 34:32Speaker 11: a guy by the name.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Of Boots Garland.
- 34:33Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Speed coach.
- 34:35Speaker 11: Everybody bought strength shoes from him back in the day.
- 34:38Speaker 11: Boots Garland got him the job with Skip Burtman.
- 34:40Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 34:40Speaker 3: And Boots Garland used to wear Skip.
- 34:42Speaker 11: Burtman out and say, you need to hire this guy.
- 34:44Speaker 3: If you get a GA position, you need to hire
- 34:45Speaker 3: this guy. And he was on him for like a
- 34:47Speaker 3: couple of years.
- 34:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 11: And finally, Skip went, hey, Boots, listen, I finally hired
- 34:52Speaker 11: your guy, Jim Wells.
- 34:54Speaker 3: And he was like, oh, great, great.
- 34:56Speaker 11: And Boots was friends with Jim Wells' dad and all
- 34:58Speaker 11: that stuff. So anyway, first day of practice, Wells is there.
- 35:01Speaker 11: Boots shows up at practice, and Skip goes, hey, Boots.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Come over here.
- 35:04Speaker 11: I want you to, you know, your guy's here. Your
- 35:06Speaker 11: guy's here. You know, first day, you know, I hired
- 35:08Speaker 11: your guy. And Boots Garland walks up to Jim Wells
- 35:11Speaker 11: and goes, hey, Boots Garland, nice to meet you. And
- 35:14Speaker 11: Skip goes, what the hell? What do you mean you
- 35:17Speaker 11: don't know each other? You've been telling me for two
- 35:19Speaker 11: years about I've got to hire this guy.
- 35:20Speaker 3: He's great. He goes, oh, well, I know his dad.
- 35:24Speaker 3: So Jim Wells got the job. Anybody in those boots
- 35:25Speaker 3: knows that that's a true story.
- 35:27Speaker 11: So he got the job as an assistant, became the
- 35:30Speaker 11: head coach at Northwestern State, turned around that program.
- 35:33Speaker 3: It was absolutely nothing.
- 35:34Speaker 11: And, I mean, there's been so many great coaches that
- 35:36Speaker 11: have come from Northwestern State since, Dave Van Horn and others,
- 35:40Speaker 11: and then went to Alabama and built a powerhouse, went
- 35:42Speaker 11: to three College World Series. And, you know, if Roberto
- 35:45Speaker 11: Vaz doesn't step on a ball in 97 in a
- 35:47Speaker 11: batting cage in a regional, might beat LSU in the
- 35:49Speaker 11: national championship game because Roberto Vaz was him and Brandon
- 35:52Speaker 11: Larson were the two best players in the league that year.
- 35:54Speaker 3: So great coach, good dude.
- 35:56Speaker 11: Retired young, retired early, and then coached high school baseball
- 36:01Speaker 11: in Tuscaloosa.
- 36:02Speaker 9: Yep.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Great class. Yeah, it is.
- 36:05Speaker 4: It is a really good class. A lot of good
- 36:06Speaker 4: names there. As you mentioned, a lot of different sports
- 36:09Speaker 4: as well. So the process is not something that I
- 36:12Speaker 4: knew about. I mean, that's a lot of names. I'm
- 36:13Speaker 4: sitting here thinking, like, the names that are on that
- 36:16Speaker 4: 160 list that you're probably talking about.
- 36:18Speaker 8: Yeah, what's the– You might have mentioned it, but like
- 36:20Speaker 8: the nomination process, you told us kind of the rules
- 36:22Speaker 8: and guidelines to be able to be nominated. But is
- 36:25Speaker 8: this like a, you know, I want to, I hereby
- 36:27Speaker 8: nominate type of situation?
- 36:28Speaker 11: Yeah, you can go to the website, LASportsHall.com. If you
- 36:31Speaker 11: go to LASportsHall.com and you click on Hall of Famers,
- 36:33Speaker 11: there's literally a yellow tab that says nominate a candidate,
- 36:36Speaker 11: gives you the instructions on what you need to do.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Um, you know, cause I get that all the time,
- 36:40Speaker 3: you know, Hey, my uncle, so-and-so he was great.
- 36:43Speaker 11: You know, he did this, you know, he should be
- 36:44Speaker 11: nominated and there's a process right now, just because you
- 36:48Speaker 11: go fill it all out and submit it doesn't mean
- 36:50Speaker 11: you automatically, you know, cause I had a guy said, well,
- 36:52Speaker 11: I hit two 90 at new Iberia high.
- 36:54Speaker 3: School, you know, like I should be in there, you know.
- 36:56Speaker 11: Well, you know, but, um, but you know, no, that's the,
- 37:00Speaker 11: there's a process online at la sports hall.com. And then,
- 37:03Speaker 11: like I said, the gatekeepers kind of take those and,
- 37:05Speaker 11: and look, if it's even a close call kind of thing,
- 37:10Speaker 11: should they be really nominated or not, they'll usually nominate
- 37:13Speaker 11: you and see if you get any traction. See if
- 37:15Speaker 11: you can get some traction from sports writers and some support.
- 37:18Speaker 11: And after a couple years, if you really don't, then
- 37:20Speaker 11: you fall off.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 37:23Speaker 11: We'll see you later.
- 37:27Speaker 3: 200 people and you can't get a vote. I mean,
- 37:29Speaker 3: at some point, like give it.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Up, you know?
- 37:32Speaker 3: Vote for your boy. Can I need one vote? One vote.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Come on. Is Hester on the list?
- 37:36Speaker 2: The one 60.
- 37:40Speaker 11: I can neither confirm or deny that.
- 37:44Speaker 3: It is a secretive ballot process.
- 37:47Speaker 2: The voters are, you said, riders.
- 37:50Speaker 3: You could nominate him. He could nominate you.
- 37:53Speaker 2: I mean, there's things we could do, you know.
- 37:56Speaker 6: Let's see if we can get it.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Hey, you once told me it's an amalgamation of all
- 37:59Speaker 4: the things, high school, college, pros, and post-career.
- 38:02Speaker 3: How old are you?
- 38:03Speaker 1: 41.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, like, come on, guys. I mean, like,
- 38:05Speaker 3: we got lots of time.
- 38:06Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 38:07Speaker 3: We got lots of time. Look, I mean, you're going
- 38:09Speaker 3: to be doing this for another 30 years.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Whoa, whoa, no.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Or 20 or whatever.
- 38:13Speaker 6: He's got so much CTE. Yeah, he's got a lot.
- 38:17Speaker 3: I gave it to the cause, man. So many hard spots. Yeah,
- 38:20Speaker 3: I mean, we've got lots of time. We've got lots
- 38:22Speaker 3: of time. All right. I'm just trying to build a
- 38:24Speaker 3: resume still, right? No, I think you're doing great. I
- 38:26Speaker 3: think you're getting there. We're just trying to get there.
- 38:28Speaker 3: I think that Tim Brando Ambassador Award's got your name
- 38:30Speaker 3: on it one day.
- 38:31Speaker 6: Ronnie, I don't have yours.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Just because I'm.
- 38:33Speaker 11: From Shreveport does not mean that I got to be
- 38:36Speaker 11: in with Timmy B.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Timmy B likes to claim everybody from Shreveport doesn't mean
- 38:40Speaker 4: they have to only get in that way.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Oh, my bad. My bad.
- 38:46Speaker 4: All right, so when is the ceremony, like when's everything
- 38:49Speaker 4: taking place? Because now that the class is announced, I
- 38:51Speaker 4: know y'all have got a ton of events that y'all
- 38:53Speaker 4: do throughout the year.
- 38:54Speaker 11: Yeah, so the last weekend in June, which is actually
- 38:57Speaker 11: the weekend after the College World Series. So if LSU
- 39:01Speaker 11: goes to the National Championship, gets to the finals, it's
- 39:03Speaker 11: the following weekend.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Gotcha.
- 39:04Speaker 11: That's when the three-day induction ceremony will take place in Natchitoches.
- 39:08Speaker 11: We'll do the Celebrity Bowling event, which you've been to before,
- 39:11Speaker 11: and Alexandria, the whole thing. Um, but between now and
- 39:14Speaker 11: then we'll have a couple of golf tournaments and we'll
- 39:16Speaker 11: have some other events, uh, you know, in the calendar
- 39:18Speaker 11: year leading up and then we'll have Pat Pete and
- 39:21Speaker 11: Leonard for net and, uh, and, and Henry Thomas and
- 39:24Speaker 11: I'll come for like an LSU football game. We'll honor
- 39:26Speaker 11: them on the field. We'll do the same with baseball
- 39:29Speaker 11: for Aaron Hill and Ryan Terrio and others.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Yeah. That'll be fun.
- 39:32Speaker 4: Congratulations to everyone who got in. Very happy for everybody.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Our guy Terrio is so happy. Very well-deserving. And, you know,
- 39:40Speaker 4: even though he hangs out with Moscona, you know, we
- 39:44Speaker 4: still give Terrio a lot of credit.
- 39:45Speaker 11: Well, I appreciate y'all having me, man, and hopefully maybe–
- 39:49Speaker 11: do the show or something from the, I don't know
- 39:51Speaker 11: if y'all ever go on the road, but I remember,
- 39:52Speaker 11: I know one year y'all came and did the radio
- 39:54Speaker 11: show from the celebrity event.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Did we do it from the bowling event? I think
- 39:57Speaker 3: it was me and Dixon. Was that what it was?
- 39:59Speaker 3: I think it was me. It was the year Les
- 40:01Speaker 3: got in.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Okay.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I believe so. Yeah. I saw his wife at Skip
- 40:04Speaker 3: Burtman's funeral. She flew in. Oh, did she? Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 4: Because of him being the athletic director too. Like, see,
- 40:12Speaker 4: that was like, We had Smoke as the baseball coach. Now,
- 40:14Speaker 4: I went to Skip Burtman camp, obviously, and knew the
- 40:17Speaker 4: legend of Skip. But we know him as an athletic director,
- 40:20Speaker 4: which is funny. That was our relationship. Would he speak
- 40:23Speaker 4: to you guys every year? At the team meetings or something?
- 40:26Speaker 4: He would, absolutely. But our seats on the plane for
- 40:29Speaker 4: away games, him and Miss Sandy were right in front
- 40:32Speaker 4: of us. And then it was me and Matt right
- 40:34Speaker 4: behind them. And he would always talk with us and
- 40:37Speaker 4: give us the good word.
- 40:38Speaker 11: He coached high school football at Miami Beach High in
- 40:40Speaker 11: the 60s.
- 40:42Speaker 3: You don't think that we heard those stories? That's right. Oh,
- 40:48Speaker 3: what an absolute legend. All right, Ronnie, we appreciate it.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Again, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame class of 2027 is out,
- 40:53Speaker 4: and it is star-studded.
- 40:55Speaker 3: And where can they find real quick all the events? LASportsHall.com. And,
- 40:58Speaker 3: of course, you can follow along on all the social
- 41:00Speaker 3: media platforms. All right, there you go. We'll be back
- 41:02Speaker 3: more OTB.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 41:05Speaker 2: All right, go to TrashRangers.com.
- 41:06Speaker 4: TrashRangers.com, residential commercial trash pickup service. Remember, they've got three
- 41:11Speaker 4: different sizes of roll-off dumpsters as well.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Give them a call.
- 41:14Speaker 4: Tell them what you've got going on at your home,
- 41:16Speaker 4: at your place of business, and they're going to make
- 41:18Speaker 4: sure that you have the right size roll-off dumpster on
- 41:21Speaker 4: your project. And if you fill it up too quick,
- 41:23Speaker 4: maybe you undersold it, that's okay. They'll pick it up,
- 41:25Speaker 4: they'll empty it, and they'll bring it right back to you.
- 41:27Speaker 4: An incredible service, one of many incredible services they have
- 41:31Speaker 4: over at TrashRangers.com.
- 41:32Speaker 2: That's right.
- 41:32Speaker 8: Trash Rangers, trash rangers.com Louisiana's most reliable trash removal service. Uh,
- 41:37Speaker 8: we're talking residential commercial, you know, the one I love
- 41:41Speaker 8: the most.
- 41:41Speaker 2: The roll off dumps.
- 41:42Speaker 8: There's three sizes to choose from flat rate pricing, but
- 41:45Speaker 8: also don't forget about the trash Rangers sanitation department, portable toilets.
- 41:49Speaker 8: So if you have a construction company, maybe you have
- 41:52Speaker 8: a big tailgate, you need a portable toilet out at the,
- 41:54Speaker 8: at a campus, whatever it is, make sure you give
- 41:57Speaker 8: them a call. They're the best in the business. Great
- 41:59Speaker 8: customer service. Again, TrashRangers.com. That's TrashRangers.com.

- 42:55Speaker 3: That's always on the floor. Bring them.
- 42:59Speaker 4: If you want to sign them or if you just
- 43:01Speaker 4: want to give us some.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Like last year, I was like, these are awesome.
- 43:06Speaker 6: Make sure they're good.
- 43:06Speaker 3: You can bring me base cards. You know why? Because
- 43:10Speaker 3: I'm not bougie like Flynn. Come hang out with us
- 43:12Speaker 3: tomorrow at Rouse's. Burbank and Lee will be there all
- 43:15Speaker 3: show long, 7 to 10 a.m. Come have some coffee.

- 43:22Speaker 3: You know what I learned that segment?
- 43:23Speaker 6: I'll bring you my base cards.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Are they of you?
- 43:25Speaker 10: No.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 43:27Speaker 6: I don't want them.
- 43:28Speaker 3: If they're of you, I'll take them. You sign them.
- 43:30Speaker 3: I'll sell them for a dollar a piece. What I
- 43:33Speaker 3: learned having Ronnie Rant in here, a couple things.
- 43:37Speaker 4: One, very deserving class. Seriously, all those people. Sometimes you
- 43:42Speaker 4: have a class and you're like, oh, I wonder who
- 43:43Speaker 4: that is. Every one of those names, I'm like, yep,
- 43:46Speaker 4: know exactly who you're talking about. Memory of that person.
- 43:49Speaker 4: I'm glad that guys like Leonard Fournette and Pat Peete.
- 43:52Speaker 4: Pat Peete's a great human being. So happy for him.
- 43:54Speaker 4: He's going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer, probably.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Our guy Terry O, as we mentioned. A lot of
- 43:58Speaker 4: great people in that class. The second thing, though, that
- 44:01Speaker 4: I learned having Jimbo on the show, we are Definitely
- 44:05Speaker 4: not in the 160. I mean, not even remotely close
- 44:11Speaker 4: to the 160.
- 44:14Speaker 7: The confirm or deny kind of was like.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I don't want to tell you. Yeah, it was that.
- 44:18Speaker 3: And then when he said, y'all can go nominate each other, I.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Was like, oh, that means nobody's nominated.
- 44:23Speaker 8: As for me, I'm probably 160,000 on the list. But you,
- 44:28Speaker 8: you're very, very deserving. I'm going to nominate you, buddy.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I got you. Oh, thank you.
- 44:33Speaker 6: Actually, I forgot it.
- 44:35Speaker 3: I forgot the website.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Shoot.
- 44:36Speaker 4: It's all right.
- 44:38Speaker 3: It's all right. We'll find it. We'll get there.
- 44:42Speaker 4: And then he's like, you'll get the, you know, the, hey,
- 44:44Speaker 4: you didn't make it, but we like you. We'll give
- 44:47Speaker 4: you the Ambassador Tim Brando Award to get recognized.
- 44:52Speaker 5: That was crazy.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Wow.
- 44:53Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 44:55Speaker 2: It's okay, Jake. You want this participation medal?
- 44:57Speaker 3: That's what it was. Do you want to go on
- 44:59Speaker 3: the senior list?
- 45:01Speaker 6: That's like getting.
- 45:02Speaker 8: That's like getting District 12-5A Texas High School football all-district
- 45:07Speaker 8: honorable mention.
- 45:07Speaker 3: That's exactly what it felt like.
- 45:08Speaker 6: That's the third place in a four-team district.
- 45:11Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 45:11Speaker 3: If you're counting.
- 45:13Speaker 6: That's exactly what it felt like.
- 45:15Speaker 5: Hey, you're in the OTB Hall of Fame.
- 45:17Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 45:17Speaker 5: You're in the Wolfpack Hall of Fame.
- 45:19Speaker 7: A four-team district still. Did y'all play each other twice?
- 45:22Speaker 6: Double round robin. It was the best district in the state.
- 45:27Speaker 6: Big state.
- 45:28Speaker 3: It was. It had some dogs in it.
- 45:30Speaker 2: No, I mean.
- 45:31Speaker 7: the teams he's listed, it's just four is wild.
- 45:35Speaker 8: Uh, there was, it was six until my senior year.
- 45:39Speaker 8: And two of them dropped down to Marshall, Marshall and Nacogdoches.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Oh, I never knew they were even in it. Really?
- 45:45Speaker 8: I mean, they, they got beat up every year because
- 45:49Speaker 8: they were just Matthew McConaughey, Marshall, Longview, Longview, Longview, Lobo.
- 45:55Speaker 2: He coached him Marshall in the movie.
- 45:57Speaker 4: We are, we are, um, The Longview Lobo that I
- 46:02Speaker 4: recognize is Malcolm Kelly.
- 46:06Speaker 5: Legendary freestyle.

- 46:09Speaker 5: We love Haynes King, too.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Tate Casey.
- 46:12Speaker 5: Malcolm Kelly walked.
- 46:14Speaker 4: Taylor, if you can tell me what school Tate Casey
- 46:17Speaker 4: played tight end for, I'll buy you dinner. He's a
- 46:24Speaker 4: sideline reporter for that team now.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Find it. Quarterback. He's a sideline reporter for that team now.
