- 0:04Hello and welcome back to the episode of Bandit Lorencia.
- 0:06How are you all doing here? We're doing great.
- 0:08For today's episode, I want to talk about the death of IF Naya
- 0:12Wang Guinea. In a sad development, the
- 0:15Nigerian music community is mourning the tragic death of 25
- 0:20year old Abuja based singer, Iphu Naya Wangene, popularly
- 0:25known as Naya Music who died from a snake bite at her home in
- 0:29the early hours of Saturday. Well, according to reports, the
- 0:33rising star was bitten by a snake at her residence and was
- 0:36rushed to two hospitals in search of treatment.
- 0:39Tragically, no anti venom was available at either facility and
- 0:44she succumbed to the bite. Naya had gained viral fame for
- 0:48her rendition of the UEFA Champions League anthem and had
- 0:52appeared on The Voice Nigeria where she showcased her
- 0:55exceptional vocal talent. While here is a special
- 0:58rendition of soprano singer Sarah Brightman's Time to Say
- 1:04Goodbye. It's time to say goodbye.
- 1:55We have so rest in peace. Well, tributes have poured in
- 1:58across social media with thousands of fans sharing videos
- 2:02of our performances and expressing shock at the sudden
- 2:05loss. The incident has reignited
- 2:07concerns about the lack of anti venom supplies at Nigerian
- 2:11hospitals. Our deepest condolences to the
- 2:14family, friends and fans of Naya Music Also rest in.
- 2:18Peace If Naya is a singer who was based in Abuja.
- 2:22According to the story, she woke up to a sharp pain on her leg
- 2:29and she on or put on the lights and she thought I was a snake.
- 2:37If my according to the story, immediately got into a taxi or
- 2:41an Uber to the hospital, she called a friend to say listen
- 2:46I've been bitten by a snake and I am going to the hospital.
- 2:50So the friend, according to the friend, she was on the phone
- 2:52with the phone even I even I got to the hospital, to a General
- 2:57Hospital in Abuja and they told her they don't have snake anti
- 3:02venom. They directed her to a different
- 3:07hospital which was about 10 minutes away.
- 3:09She got into another taxi or an Uber and the friend said she was
- 3:14still on the phone with you phone iPhone.
- 3:16I was talking because the, the when where she was beating was
- 3:20tied with a clue to stop the venom from you know spreading in
- 3:24her body. She was talking properly.
- 3:27They said she went to the second hospital.
- 3:30They started asking her questions and all that instead
- 3:33of attending to her immediately. After some time, a doctor came
- 3:39and told her they were going to give her drips.
- 3:42They removed the the tie, the clothes that she was used in
- 3:47tying her hands. And she said she felt that she's
- 3:51in good, she's in good, you know, that's a doctor.
- 3:55They told us they were going to give her drips.
- 3:57So she laid down and they removed the the the the clothes
- 4:01that she used in tiny arms. She laid down and the friend
- 4:06said, you know, she started feeling kind of dizzy, probably
- 4:10she thought because of the drip. And then she allowed her to to
- 4:15rest only for her to get a call to say that if nigh had passed.
- 4:21Now this is sad because people pray that let Nigeria not happen
- 4:29to you and people think it's a bad prayer or people are just
- 4:34trying to bash Nigeria or criticise the government.
- 4:39Imagine a whole government hospital not having anti venom.
- 4:43That is crazy. For somebody to die of snake
- 4:48bites in 2026 is mad. It's unacceptable.
- 4:58This is Nigeria, this is there are bushes around, especially in
- 5:03Abuja. People don't live in, in big
- 5:08cities or developed areas because it's expensive.
- 5:14So most times they live in rural areas.
- 5:18They live in, you know, new development areas, which there
- 5:21are bushes around. So there's, there's every
- 5:23possibility. You see snakes, you see
- 5:27scorpions, you see all these things around your, your area.
- 5:31It is not new. Even in Western countries you
- 5:36see snakes because there are bushes around.
- 5:41These are nature for the fact that she went to a hospital, a
- 5:47General Hospital, and I think maybe she did that because she
- 5:50thought there's no way General Hospital will not have anti
- 5:53snake venom. She went there.
- 5:56They don't have they had to to to like just imagine, just
- 6:05imagine you wake up 2026. You've done all you know, you
- 6:11spent all the whole January having New Year resolution
- 6:18mapping plans for the year. You are taking care of yourself.
- 6:21You're eating right, you're exercising you, you're doing
- 6:26everything that you're supposed to do.
- 6:32And then a snake bites you. You, you took yourself to the
- 6:38General Hospital thinking I am OK this like there's no problem.
- 6:48You got disappointed, you went to the second hospital, they had
- 6:52to give you a drip. I don't know, maybe I am not a
- 6:58medical person, but anti venom is not supposed to be an
- 7:02injection. Why is he a drip?
- 7:07I I. I I don't know, let me play a
- 7:11video from a doctor because sometimes it's good to hear from
- 7:16professionals who know exactly what they're saying.
- 7:20I'm sure you've heard a story about the lady who was bitten by
- 7:24a snake and she died, right? And it's a very sad story,
- 7:28especially when you think about it.
- 7:29But what if I tell you it's not the snake that killed her?
- 7:33I mean snakes bite people everywhere, whether you're in
- 7:36the Bush or in the city. India, Australia, other
- 7:39countries, snake bite people everywhere.
- 7:40But they do not die like this. They do not die just because
- 7:45they went to two hospitals 2 not 1-2 separate hospitals and they
- 7:51looked them straight in the eye and told them we do not have
- 7:54anti venom in the country where snakes live in 2026 non 1980 non
- 8:0219702026. And it has happened to somebody
- 8:08who is popular. But think about the other people
- 8:10it has been happening to that did not have anybody to report
- 8:14to. They didn't have any place to go
- 8:15and they they typically just lost their lives.
- 8:18Bright futures cut shorts. And when you think about it, if
- 8:24you even come to the research, Nigeria has a particular anti
- 8:28venom developed for Nigerian snakes.
- 8:30It's called a key tab ECHITEB. The question is why were this?
- 8:37Why was this anti venom not in the fridges of the hospitals
- 8:40that she went to? Simply because we've forgotten
- 8:43the basics. Our politicians are building
- 8:46flyovers where ambulances don't exist.
- 8:51We're focusing on building ultra modern hospitals when the
- 8:56primary healthcare centre, which is the first point of call in
- 9:00any functioning country, should be.
- 9:04But rather than focus on those ones, they would rather want to
- 9:07do a big project. They'll caught Reborn and
- 9:09everybody's going to clap for them simply because they're
- 9:12trying to focus on the next election rather than the lives
- 9:16of the people that they're actually supposed to save.
- 9:19We've forgotten the basics in every primary healthcare centre.
- 9:24The basic small hospital that's beside you should have anti
- 9:27venom in a country where snakes leave.
- 9:30They should have oxygen, they should have people who know what
- 9:33to do. We've been shouting about it.
- 9:36Doctors have been on strike for a while, but it seems nobody's
- 9:39talking about it because, you know, really concern me like
- 9:42that. No, it does.
- 9:44It does. But when doctors go on strike
- 9:47asking for better conditions, better services, even help us do
- 9:54our work better, the same people who are politicians find a way
- 9:58to put the people against the doctors and make the doctors the
- 10:02enemy, rather than the people who are actually supposed to
- 10:04provide this health care for you.
- 10:08We've forgotten the basics. We've forgotten the basics.
- 10:12We're recently on the project where I've been going from state
- 10:15to state. The first one was Gombe.
- 10:17The next one was Inugu. I'll be going to other states in
- 10:20the country and we're going to be shouting Know your PHC, take
- 10:23your phone, go to your PHC and demand it.
- 10:27Most times when we start, oh, some of those projects, there's
- 10:30no health care. They should not passing away.
- 10:33Chop a single first chop before you do health care.
- 10:36Now look at what's happening. This is just anti venom.
- 10:42How about the woman would die from childbirth?
- 10:45You see, see, and this is this is not just village people at
- 10:50work or because I see that some people have already turned the
- 10:52conversation into, oh, it was a spiritual snake.
- 10:55It was this and this was this. And that's why our politicians
- 10:58are lucky people, because they know they won't be spinning a
- 11:02particular story. Everybody will run with it.
- 11:04Nobody's asking why does our auntie, why does our hospitals
- 11:07don't have anti venoms, The money that was budgeted for the
- 11:10Primary Health care centres, Why was he not supposed to do what
- 11:13he was supposed to do? But rather they are saying, oh
- 11:15he's a spiritual snake, he's our neighbour, he's jealous of her.
- 11:18These things, that is how they keep us down.
- 11:21Well, we can do what we want to do.
- 11:24But what I will say is when time comes to actually demand
- 11:28accountability for healthcare, if you hear budget allocation,
- 11:30don't just tune off. Asked us my Primary Health care.
- 11:34We should stop prison audio projects when Primary Health
- 11:37care centres don't even have common paracetamol.
- 11:41Oh, go to the pimp post on my page and look at that.
- 11:44Those are Primary Health care centres that's actually supposed
- 11:46to help people survive. We failed this young lady today.
- 11:52We're failing others. It concerned our law force and
- 11:58that's all I will say. Thank you.
- 12:01This is sad, this is just, this is just sad all round.
- 12:07May her gentle soul rest in peace and May God give the
- 12:12family the fortitude to bear the loss.
- 12:15This is collectively for a nation as Nigeria, the
- 12:21supposedly giant of Africa, to some sit down and kind of think,
- 12:28think about the lives that have been lost on a daily basis.
- 12:32Just because some politicians or some people in high places or
- 12:37people who we have entrusted to do the right thing are not even
- 12:42willing to to, to do the basics. The common basic thing such as
- 12:48having anti venom in a hospital, a General Hospital.
- 12:53We're not even talking about maybe a chemist.
- 12:56We're not talking about a small hospital.
- 12:59If it was a private hospital right now, say, OK, yeah, maybe
- 13:03they, they were out of budget. People are not.
- 13:05Maybe it's a new hospital. This is a General Hospital.
- 13:12Let me know what you think. Do you think that Nigeria is
- 13:15going to get better or do you think that we're just getting
- 13:18worse by the day? For a, for a, a, a grown adult,
- 13:25for somebody who took herself to the hospital to die because a
- 13:31hospital does not have anti venom.
- 13:35We have failed. We failed the Funaya.
- 13:41Let us sink in. Thank you very much for watching
- 13:44today's episode. Please like, like, like and
- 13:46share subscribe to my channel. Thank you very much for
- 13:48watching. Bye Bye.
