- 0:05Speaker 2: this weekend, we thought we would take it all the
- 0:07Speaker 2: way back to the beginning with our recap of The
- 0:10Speaker 2: Way Home Season one, episode one, Mothers and Daughters. We
- 0:16Speaker 2: do a full scene by scene recap of this episode
- 0:21Speaker 2: and it was a fun re listen for us, and
- 0:24Speaker 2: we hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane before
- 0:27Speaker 2: the series finale.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Hey everyone, welcome to you Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark
- 0:42Speaker 1: review podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy, and today begins our
- 0:47Speaker 1: recap series of the brand new original series from the
- 0:50Speaker 1: Hallmark Channel, The Way Home. Before we jump into this episode,
- 0:56Speaker 1: if you'd like to connect with us outside of the podcast,
- 0:58Speaker 1: you can do that on Instagram. We are at Girls
- 1:01Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark. You can also jump into our Facebook group
- 1:05Speaker 1: it's called Girls Gone Hallmark. That's pretty fun there. We
- 1:09Speaker 1: want to get right into our recap of this episode,
- 1:12Speaker 1: but first let's just do a very quick rundown to
- 1:14Speaker 1: some of the lead cast members. Okay, we'll talk more
- 1:16Speaker 1: about us we meet them, Okay, First up, we have
- 1:19Speaker 1: Andy McDowell, she plays Dell, the Grandma. We have Citie
- 1:24Speaker 1: Laflam snow as Alice talk about great. Oh my god,
- 1:28Speaker 1: she was so gosh the iroll. Oh, I've as a
- 1:33Speaker 1: mother of an almost fifteen year old, felt this deeply. Yes,
- 1:39Speaker 1: we also have Kyler Lee as Cat, the adult Cat. Yes,
- 1:44Speaker 1: playing Elliott Augustine. We have Evan Williams and finally playing Dad.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Is it Brady? Is it Braydon Dewan al McAdam voice
- 1:55Speaker 1: memosiall send us a voice. Let's start with us. Of
- 2:00Speaker 1: season one, episode one of the Way Home entitled Mothers
- 2:04Speaker 1: and Daughters, Kat and teen daughter Alice move in with
- 2:09Speaker 1: estranged grandma Dell. Escaping the tension, Alice explores the farm
- 2:14Speaker 1: and finds herself on a surprising journey. Hey, I think
- 2:19Speaker 1: that synopsis nails it. It does, Yeah, it definitely does.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I have a question for you, Okay, would you consider
- 2:26Speaker 1: time travel to be a science fiction trope? Yes? I would, Oh, yes,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I would, And honestly was like when I saw the
- 2:32Speaker 1: previews of this show when it first came out, I
- 2:37Speaker 1: didn't know it was time travel. So I got to
- 2:40Speaker 1: tell you, I'm a little hesitant because I don't like
- 2:44Speaker 1: time travel stories. Okay, I don't know why, because it
- 2:48Speaker 1: falls into the sci fi genre. For me, which Wendy
- 2:53Speaker 1: is not a fan of, not a fan of. But
- 2:55Speaker 1: I'm going to put that aside for now, just because
- 2:59Speaker 1: I like where this story is going. All right. So
- 3:04Speaker 1: this episode opens with what I feel is a real
- 3:06Speaker 1: strong horror movie vibe. Oh yeah, right, We've got an
- 3:11Speaker 1: unidentified woman running through the woods being chased by men
- 3:16Speaker 1: with torches. Yeah, in eighteen fourteen New Brunswick. If I
- 3:20Speaker 1: wanted to know, who's that woman? Who are these men?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Where is she going? And then she leaps over a log, hesitates,
- 3:28Speaker 1: and then jumps right in. Yes, let me stop you
- 3:31Speaker 1: right there, I swear, and I watched this twice. I
- 3:35Speaker 1: swear she says something before she jumps in, but I
- 3:39Speaker 1: couldn't hear her. And there was of course I know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: watching I'm watching it with captions, there was nothing there. Okay,
- 3:45Speaker 1: so I don't know if I'm like making that up.
- 3:48Speaker 1: But what did she say? I don't know. I have
- 3:51Speaker 1: to imagine we have to come back to this moment
- 3:54Speaker 1: at some point, this eighteen fourteen moment. We don't hear
- 3:57Speaker 1: anything else about this time period in this episode, but
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm hoping we find out. I assume it's Alice, But
- 4:06Speaker 1: how far back. Did she go? Is this a relative
- 4:08Speaker 1: of Alice? We have these women been time traveling this
- 4:11Speaker 1: whole time. You're out there alivee time. Yes, and she's
- 4:15Speaker 1: it appears to be in pajamas some sort of like yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 1: like yeah, yeah, I think there's a lot that sets
- 4:23Speaker 1: the scene at like the men with the flaming torches
- 4:26Speaker 1: and what she's wearing. All that very and it touches
- 4:30Speaker 1: on it later, but it's very like Scarlet Letter or
- 4:35Speaker 1: Salem Witch, Salem Witch Trials. Yeah, so what's going on here?
- 4:40Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm excited to find out more. Same
- 4:42Speaker 1: and we jumped straight from there to present day Minnesota.
- 4:45Speaker 1: We've got a dude with the guitar around stage. I
- 4:47Speaker 1: got a nervous looking girl standing off stage. She takes
- 4:50Speaker 1: the stage, yeah, freaks out, Yeah and runs off stage. Yes. Well,
- 4:55Speaker 1: she sees her dad like texting, like he's not paying attention,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know. But but what's funny is that? And again
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm jumping ahead just a little bit. But her mom
- 5:04Speaker 1: tells her like you slayed that last year, So what happened?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Why is Alice now freaking out? Because remember the boy
- 5:11Speaker 1: comes off the stage or no, she I'm sorry. Alice
- 5:13Speaker 1: comes off the stage, runs off the stage before she
- 5:15Speaker 1: pulls the fire alarm, and he says, I knew you
- 5:19Speaker 1: were just the one hit wonder. So like what happened? Yes? Yeah?
- 5:23Speaker 1: When did she lose her mojo? Yeah? I hope we
- 5:26Speaker 1: get more backstory, and I hope we get the backstory
- 5:30Speaker 1: in flashbacks. You know, don't tell me about it. I
- 5:35Speaker 1: want to not exposition. Yes, agree, yes, yes, next scene,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and there's a lot happening in this first episode because
- 5:42Speaker 1: there's so much set up. I'm gonna tell you right now.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I felt like it was done really well. Me too.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Pilots are tough. But our next scene, we've got what
- 5:51Speaker 1: we will come to find out are Alice's parents, Kat
- 5:55Speaker 1: and Braiden arguing and we find out that they are
- 5:59Speaker 1: no longer together. We don't find out in this scene
- 6:03Speaker 1: that they're not actually divorced, but at one point the
- 6:06Speaker 1: principal refers to Kat as Braden's wife and they both
- 6:10Speaker 1: respond ex wife, So we know that they are not
- 6:12Speaker 1: together and they're kind of playing the blame game a
- 6:15Speaker 1: little bit totally. We also learn that Cat has recently
- 6:19Speaker 1: been fired yes, from a job that she loves. Yes,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and all In the same scene, we learn that Alice
- 6:26Speaker 1: has now been expelled from school for pulling the fire alarm.
- 6:30Speaker 1: This appears to not be the first incident at school.
- 6:33Speaker 1: She's kind of a rebel or they do say, like
- 6:36Speaker 1: she's hanging out with a different crowd this year. The
- 6:40Speaker 1: dad jokes once he learns that Cat is not working,
- 6:43Speaker 1: he goes, oh, it looks like you'll have time for homeschooling.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, I was gonna punch this
- 6:48Speaker 1: kuy in of face. My blood boiled, right, that's that moment.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And what we know seconds later in that scene is
- 6:55Speaker 1: they don't live together anymore. So how is she going
- 6:58Speaker 1: to support herself and stay home home and not work
- 7:00Speaker 1: and homeschool this child? Yeah, I don't know. Come on,
- 7:04Speaker 1: I really had a visceral reaction to oh, now you
- 7:06Speaker 1: can just take this on yourself. Seriously. I am like,
- 7:10Speaker 1: no points for this guy already. I mean the fact
- 7:14Speaker 1: that he was like texting during when his daughter comes
- 7:18Speaker 1: on stage, like that is a highlight of me to
- 7:20Speaker 1: see my kid do something. Yeah yeah, yeah, I wouldn't know, dude,
- 7:24Speaker 1: eyes on, there's no way. Yeah, ooh, make me so mad.
- 7:28Speaker 1: In this exchange, we find out that Rachel, who apparently
- 7:33Speaker 1: is his girlfriend, has moved in. Now. I was surprised
- 7:36Speaker 1: to find out later in this episode that they're not
- 7:38Speaker 1: even divorced and he's already moved his new girlfriend. No
- 7:41Speaker 1: points from me. They do arrive to what I believe
- 7:44Speaker 1: to be Kat's home, and Alice is thrown a party,
- 7:48Speaker 1: I mean just right in the holiday like and has
- 7:51Speaker 1: the audacity when her parents kick everybody out to go
- 7:54Speaker 1: Are you serious? I, oh my god. This has been
- 7:58Speaker 1: like the parent in me with like my head would explode.
- 8:02Speaker 1: These people at my home during the day, not giving
- 8:06Speaker 1: a care to like music's playing, foods everywhere. I'm assuming
- 8:11Speaker 1: they're drinking too. She doesn't even have the good sense
- 8:14Speaker 1: to like be worried about being in trouble. She's just
- 8:16Speaker 1: angry that they've ruined her fire. It's just like middle
- 8:18Speaker 1: fingers up to her parents, like she does not care,
- 8:22Speaker 1: especially on the heels of committing a crime and being
- 8:25Speaker 1: expelled from school. So did are we to assume like
- 8:28Speaker 1: she pulled the fire alarm and then busted out of there,
- 8:32Speaker 1: because wouldn't she be arrested for something? I don't know,
- 8:35Speaker 1: is it a crime like that to pull a fere
- 8:38Speaker 1: it is, and they address that in the conversation with
- 8:40Speaker 1: the principal. And because the mom says it's not a
- 8:43Speaker 1: crime to stay tried, isn't a crime and she says no,
- 8:46Speaker 1: but pulling a fire alarm is and it comes with
- 8:50Speaker 1: a hefty fine as well. Well. I thought that best
- 8:53Speaker 1: part of that scene when they arrived home and Alice's
- 8:56Speaker 1: having the party is we're cat like, looks this dude
- 9:01Speaker 1: up and down and it's like, really, this guy, he's
- 9:04Speaker 1: like this full emo looking dude. Yeah, the full cliche,
- 9:08Speaker 1: wrong crowd, Yes, that's totally and then dad really bat
- 9:13Speaker 1: in a thousand bails dude. I wrote on my notes
- 9:16Speaker 1: GTFO this guy, it's just like, Okay, you're gonna handle this.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I'm out here, gonna go shack up with Rachel. Now
- 9:23Speaker 1: He's like, I got a busy day at work tomorrow.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It's still light out side, dude, stay here and parent
- 9:30Speaker 1: gross and then Alice and Kat and get into it. Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 1: And in the scene she says to Alice, I'm worried
- 9:38Speaker 1: that you were making the same mistakes I made at
- 9:41Speaker 1: your age. And I was like, that's super interesting because
- 9:44Speaker 1: I only caught that on the rewatch and we get
- 9:49Speaker 1: to it later. But Kat seems like a pretty good kid.
- 9:53Speaker 1: What mistakes did she make? It? Yeah? Anyway, Well, I
- 9:57Speaker 1: think Alice's response to that is, oh, now I I'm
- 10:00Speaker 1: a mistake. So I suspect that perhaps she got pregnant young.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Oh maybe we don't know yet. I don't know. Cat's
- 10:08Speaker 1: angry at Alice. I didn't love her response, like, why
- 10:13Speaker 1: are you throwing your gift away? I feel like in
- 10:15Speaker 1: this moment, her daughter clearly had something going on. She
- 10:18Speaker 1: had stage right, she ran off stage, and the mom
- 10:21Speaker 1: is reacting she's angry with her for that. There's a
- 10:25Speaker 1: lot to be angry about. Yeah, but I feel like,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you know that's not We're not mad at our kid
- 10:31Speaker 1: for freaking out on stage. No, No, So that's why
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think like something has happened in the past year.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Is it just the divorce or the separation, like what's
- 10:45Speaker 1: going on with Obviously Alice was like on track or
- 10:49Speaker 1: very much into music or whatever, and stop doing that.
- 10:53Speaker 1: But because why Yes, and of course Alice is mad
- 10:56Speaker 1: that her mom wasn't there. Yeah. Next scene, Kat i's
- 10:59Speaker 1: a glass wine, She's at a desk and she's opening
- 11:02Speaker 1: a letter from her mother asking her to come home
- 11:05Speaker 1: with a family photo included. That was weird, right, It
- 11:08Speaker 1: felt emotionally manipulative, particularly knowing what we're gonna find out
- 11:13Speaker 1: about this family right shortly, right, And I honestly was
- 11:19Speaker 1: shocked that they get right through it. They don't beat
- 11:20Speaker 1: her on the bush, Kat calls her mom. I was shocked.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I would have like sat on that letter for like
- 11:25Speaker 1: two weeks before deciding what. I like that this story
- 11:29Speaker 1: moves forward quickly, because I think there would have been
- 11:31Speaker 1: more of a like we know that she's in a
- 11:33Speaker 1: situation where she needs a job. She isn't going to
- 11:37Speaker 1: be able to stay here, so she is just an
- 11:38Speaker 1: have one, and they cut right to it. Yeah, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: mean I guess, like, if you're feeling desperate, you're gonna
- 11:42Speaker 1: make desperate decisions, right, and if that means moving back home.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And then we have one of the most what I thought,
- 11:49Speaker 1: beautiful scenes in the episode. We cut to them driving
- 11:54Speaker 1: home and we get what might be the opening credit song. Yeah,
- 11:59Speaker 1: not sure. It's called down by the Water by Abigail Lapel.
- 12:04Speaker 1: It's a perfect song for that's show, right, It's kind
- 12:08Speaker 1: of haunting, it's talking about water. I don't know. Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 1: it talks about daughter and I think it's it's really
- 12:18Speaker 1: gives me like Gilmore girls vibes with that opening song,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and we get it again in the closing credit, so
- 12:23Speaker 1: we will find out if this is in fact, Yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 1: because we didn't get like a proper like opening, correct,
- 12:30Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm curious to see how how it opens
- 12:34Speaker 1: Next week and we find out a gorney to Alice,
- 12:36Speaker 1: they're moving to middle of nowhere, Canada. It looks beautiful
- 12:40Speaker 1: to me. It does look beautiful. I would have loved
- 12:43Speaker 1: to live on this big farm. Yeah, but not as
- 12:46Speaker 1: a teenager. No, you ripped away from your friends and
- 12:49Speaker 1: your school, and there's obviously things going on with your parents,
- 12:53Speaker 1: your father. But yes, it was gorgeous. If you told
- 12:56Speaker 1: me you have to go live here, I'd be like, great,
- 12:59Speaker 1: sign me up. Yeah, that's my forty seven year old dream. Yes. Oh,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and then as they're driving into town, we see Welcome
- 13:06Speaker 1: to Port Haven, so we know we are back at
- 13:08Speaker 1: the scene of the opening of the show. Yes. We
- 13:12Speaker 1: also learn in the scene that Kat has lost her brother.
- 13:17Speaker 1: This is a conversation between Kat and Alice, and Alice
- 13:21Speaker 1: says something to the effect of like I can't believe
- 13:25Speaker 1: you were so young when you lost your brother. And
- 13:27Speaker 1: it was basically that she's been gone and has been
- 13:30Speaker 1: gone for some time. Yes, she does talk about being
- 13:33Speaker 1: gone for twenty years. Yeah, because you know, Alice is like,
- 13:36Speaker 1: if this place is so great, why did it take
- 13:38Speaker 1: you twenty years to come? Exactly exactly anyway, Dale greets
- 13:42Speaker 1: the at the door, and quite frankly, she's perfection to
- 13:44Speaker 1: me in this scene. I just love her. And what
- 13:48Speaker 1: I really love is she asks if they'd like to
- 13:51Speaker 1: go on a tour, and Kat's like, I got to
- 13:53Speaker 1: get settled in, and she goes, you're not invited. And
- 13:55Speaker 1: I think there's something really special about a grandparent grandchild relationship.
- 14:00Speaker 1: There's something about taking the element of parental responsibility out
- 14:05Speaker 1: and grandparents can kind of have that bond with their grandchildren.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And we'll come to find out that Dell is not
- 14:13Speaker 1: without her relationship flaw. Sure, she's not always going to
- 14:18Speaker 1: be warm to Alice, Yeah, but she does try and
- 14:21Speaker 1: draw her in pretty quickly. I agree. I think Andy
- 14:24Speaker 1: mcdallas just fantastic, Like, I just think she's perfect for
- 14:29Speaker 1: this role. I agree. I love that she's just natural
- 14:34Speaker 1: like her beautiful, like natural gray hair gray, and she
- 14:38Speaker 1: just looks like she has aged beautifully. I just really
- 14:42Speaker 1: it's just a perfect role for her. It's such a
- 14:45Speaker 1: good get perfect perfect. So while Alice and Della off
- 14:50Speaker 1: on the tour, we see that kat Is, you know,
- 14:53Speaker 1: walking through her childhood home and having like these flashbacks.
- 14:56Speaker 1: We don't totally see like her or her brother who
- 15:01Speaker 1: has passed, but we see like elements of a home
- 15:06Speaker 1: that used to be lively with younger children, and then
- 15:11Speaker 1: she sees like the pictures on the mantle and it's
- 15:14Speaker 1: just a dell, like there's nothing there to represent like
- 15:20Speaker 1: once was. Yes, Stanley photos have been replaced, yes, which
- 15:24Speaker 1: is we knew this was all coming anyway, because they
- 15:26Speaker 1: had been in the like previews for weeks and weeks
- 15:28Speaker 1: and weeks, you know, when Kyler yells at Kyler, when
- 15:32Speaker 1: kay yells at Dell for saying, like you've there's no
- 15:35Speaker 1: pictures here, So we knew this was coming. And cut
- 15:39Speaker 1: back to Grandma and Alice, and Alice is sorely as
- 15:41Speaker 1: hell when Grandma says someday this farm might be hers,
- 15:44Speaker 1: and Alice is like, I'm not much of a farmer, right,
- 15:47Speaker 1: just just be quiet. She just you know, you can
- 15:51Speaker 1: fully appreciate the teenager in her that she does not
- 15:53Speaker 1: know when to shut up. And now it's dinnertime and
- 15:56Speaker 1: Delle wants to know what they're gonna do. She gets
- 15:58Speaker 1: right into it, what do you gonna do while you're here?
- 15:59Speaker 1: And I thought, gosh, there, you know, the maternal vibe
- 16:04Speaker 1: that take a minute and recover and find your footing
- 16:10Speaker 1: wasn't there. And I really wanted that for Kat. You
- 16:13Speaker 1: wanted her to be like, settle in, figure it out. Yeah,
- 16:16Speaker 1: we got you. But no, she's like, you're gonna get
- 16:19Speaker 1: a job pan us landry women have planned, and she's
- 16:23Speaker 1: not on board with Kat's planned to write a book. Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 1: That was kind of funny because I was like, what
- 16:28Speaker 1: does Kat have to write about? Are we talking novels?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Are we talking what like what life on the farm
- 16:34Speaker 1: or life experience as a reporter? Maybe just because she's
- 16:37Speaker 1: a good writer, Yeah, but why wouldn't Dell support that? Though? Well,
- 16:42Speaker 1: I think Dell's a very practical woman. Oka, and so
- 16:47Speaker 1: writing a book, there's not a clear path from beginning
- 16:51Speaker 1: to financial success. Okay, you can write a book and
- 16:56Speaker 1: you at the end you have a book but you
- 16:58Speaker 1: don't necessarily have income. You don't want to have a job.
- 17:01Speaker 1: For her, she wants you go get a job and
- 17:03Speaker 1: now you're gonna get a paycheck every two weeks. Yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 1: What was the place that she was saying that they
- 17:06Speaker 1: were hiring the point? What is the point? Is it
- 17:10Speaker 1: a rest? I think it's actually is it the cafe
- 17:14Speaker 1: where they find Alice? Later, Alice wants to finish out
- 17:16Speaker 1: the school you're online. Dell is not a fan of
- 17:19Speaker 1: that plan. And not only is she not a fan
- 17:21Speaker 1: of that plan, she points out all the reasons why
- 17:23Speaker 1: it's not gonna work because internet is spotty at the farm,
- 17:26Speaker 1: She's gonna have to go in down work at the library,
- 17:28Speaker 1: and Alice just gets in. Yeah. I was surprised, like
- 17:31Speaker 1: how easy she gave in, and she was like, fine,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I'll start school tomorrow then, yeah, and good news, Dell
- 17:36Speaker 1: has already registered her. This woman works fast, Yes she does.
- 17:40Speaker 1: She definitely does. I love how kind of like gruff
- 17:45Speaker 1: she is, Like she's not warm and fuzzy. She is not.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And it's kind of in contrast because when we later
- 17:53Speaker 1: on see some flashback episodes when when the kids are younger,
- 17:57Speaker 1: doesn't she seem a lot like lighter, lighter, Yeah, softer
- 18:03Speaker 1: around the edges, and knowing what little we know, it's
- 18:07Speaker 1: not terribly surprising to me. I know she's been hardened
- 18:10Speaker 1: by life, exactly exactly. We cut to Alice in her
- 18:15Speaker 1: mom's old room and she's texting and she's unhappy, and
- 18:19Speaker 1: she drops her phone and she finds the program from
- 18:22Speaker 1: her grandfather's funeral. Yes, now, did you notice the year
- 18:27Speaker 1: that he died? I did not, nineteen ninety nine, two thousand.
- 18:31Speaker 1: That will be important momentarily, I think so. I think
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's important. Yes, I agree, because it's going to establish
- 18:37Speaker 1: the timeline of like things that happen, and they have
- 18:40Speaker 1: happened pretty quickly. Yes, okay. And then we cut back
- 18:43Speaker 1: to the kitchen. Cat and Dell are having a conversation,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and this is where we discovered that they're not divorced,
- 18:47Speaker 1: but Kat says the separation is at this point permanent
- 18:50Speaker 1: because his girlfriend has moved in. This is the moment
- 18:52Speaker 1: I was shocked, kind of Dick moved to move your
- 18:54Speaker 1: girlfriend in before you're even divorced. Yeah, even it seemed
- 18:57Speaker 1: like before they were moving forward with worse proceeding. If
- 19:01Speaker 1: they had been separated at that point. But then we
- 19:03Speaker 1: get some interesting news. Dal didn't actually send the letter.
- 19:07Speaker 1: She seems shocked when Kat thanks her for the letter
- 19:09Speaker 1: and thought Kat reaching out was the first step. I
- 19:12Speaker 1: was like, don't they have like a conversation at all,
- 19:16Speaker 1: like prior to this. And I wonder if Kat called
- 19:20Speaker 1: Dell and was like, I need to come home. Oh,
- 19:24Speaker 1: maybe she just assumed that Dell knew that it was
- 19:27Speaker 1: in response to her letter, but Delle just thought she
- 19:30Speaker 1: was reaching out. So who sent the letter? Now? Dell
- 19:33Speaker 1: does accuse Elliott shortly, Yes, we got to a scene
- 19:38Speaker 1: that I thought was pretty heartbreaking, and that is Alice
- 19:41Speaker 1: begging her dad to let her come home. And while
- 19:43Speaker 1: I think she's been in a complete pain, and they
- 19:45Speaker 1: asked about this entire episode, I also do understand that
- 19:49Speaker 1: she'd want to go home, yeah, and she wants to
- 19:51Speaker 1: be wanted by her dad. She wants her dad to
- 19:53Speaker 1: want her to come home, yeah what she wants yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 1: and he says no. And what would you do in
- 19:59Speaker 1: that situation? Hypothetically if you and your husband were separated
- 20:05Speaker 1: and you took your children somewhere and they wanted to
- 20:10Speaker 1: go live with dad, would you want dad to support
- 20:15Speaker 1: you in taking the children away, or would you be
- 20:19Speaker 1: mad at dad for not offering up a place for them. Well,
- 20:23Speaker 1: here's where my practical side comes in is there's got
- 20:26Speaker 1: to be some sort of like legal custody situation in place, right,
- 20:33Speaker 1: But maybe there isn't. This is a hard situation. I
- 20:37Speaker 1: don't think I would make a decision in one day. Yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 1: here's another question. They lived in the States, in Minnesota,
- 20:45Speaker 1: they went to Canada. Don't you get a like, isn't
- 20:48Speaker 1: there something about taking a minor out of which kidnapping her? No,
- 20:53Speaker 1: but she had her father's permission. I've taken my minor
- 20:55Speaker 1: children to Canada without a father, find without my husband father.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And then we get more flashbacks Kat and her little
- 21:06Speaker 1: brother putting glow in the Dark stars on the ceiling,
- 21:08Speaker 1: and we still don't know what has happened to Jacob.
- 21:13Speaker 1: There's this sweet moment and she's looking up at the
- 21:17Speaker 1: old glow in the dark stars in that bedroom. Now,
- 21:20Speaker 1: Delle did not want her sleeping in Jacob's room. Yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: that was didn't go over so well, did it. No?
- 21:25Speaker 1: Next morning, you know, Delle's kind of spicy as ever.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Alice comes downstairs and She's like, don't you want to
- 21:30Speaker 1: get a dressed now? Are you a come downstairs in
- 21:32Speaker 1: your pajamas kind of household? I yeah, yes, so were we. Honestly,
- 21:35Speaker 1: it kind of surprised me because she seems like she's
- 21:38Speaker 1: pretty casual, right, but she had these rules, Like Alice
- 21:42Speaker 1: was like, I'm just gonna get coffee. I don't really
- 21:44Speaker 1: do breakfast, you know, because Dale's like eat something too,
- 21:47Speaker 1: I know. And then Delle plays a trick on Alice,
- 21:52Speaker 1: which let's talk about Okay, she has her to let
- 21:55Speaker 1: the dog out. Yes, Alice sets the dog out, and
- 21:57Speaker 1: there's a bunch of teenagers working on the far right
- 22:00Speaker 1: and they all kind of look at her and laugh. Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 1: My daughter went to camp this past weekend and when
- 22:04Speaker 1: we picked her up, eighty percent of the kids getting
- 22:07Speaker 1: out of the van were in their pajamas. I think
- 22:08Speaker 1: it's just what kids wear. Now. If I go to
- 22:11Speaker 1: high school right now, half of them will be in
- 22:12Speaker 1: pajama pants. I think that is just she wasn't naked.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I know, I just sayed post twenty twenty, for some reason,
- 22:20Speaker 1: pajama pants became acceptable where during the day. Yeah, but
- 22:24Speaker 1: what I'm saying is this wouldn't have been humiliated, wouldn't
- 22:27Speaker 1: just because she's wearing these like fuzzy rabbit slippers and
- 22:30Speaker 1: like whatever, she had like smudgy black makeup under her eyes.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It was thirty yards away. Yeah, it wasn't like she
- 22:38Speaker 1: walked outside naked. Yeah, right, she was wearing a bunny costume.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I didn't think that that was humiliating. But she's the
- 22:45Speaker 1: new girl in town, and I guess that's not the
- 22:47Speaker 1: impression she wants to make. Yeah, but maybe we're making
- 22:50Speaker 1: this as a perspective of our age. If my daughter
- 22:54Speaker 1: would probably be mortified if I sent her outside and
- 22:57Speaker 1: there were boys and girls, Yes, and she was that's
- 23:01Speaker 1: her first impression. Yeah, she wish Yeah, she wouldn't like that.
- 23:05Speaker 1: So I mean, I can see from both ways. I
- 23:08Speaker 1: kind of like, I know, Dell thinks it's funny, and
- 23:10Speaker 1: she's like, oh, I don't teach you not to get
- 23:11Speaker 1: dressed before records. I thought I was just kind of
- 23:13Speaker 1: mean because clearly that was her intent. Yes, yes, but
- 23:17Speaker 1: why why do that to your granddaughter? Like what was
- 23:20Speaker 1: what was her point there? Ye to prove to her
- 23:22Speaker 1: that that's why you need to get dressed. It just
- 23:24Speaker 1: see the rules of the pharming sister, I thought, so too.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Oh cool, Well Cat enjoyed it. Yeah, you know, I
- 23:30Speaker 1: get it. She's also in a place where her daughter's
- 23:31Speaker 1: been reading her The Riot Act every night, and so,
- 23:34Speaker 1: you know, to see her daughter get a little bit
- 23:36Speaker 1: of a taste of her own medicine. Next up, waiting
- 23:47Speaker 1: that Cat making some disappointed Cophone calls editors who are
- 23:50Speaker 1: not as interested in her book as she once believed
- 23:53Speaker 1: they might be. That's why I'm wondering, like, what is
- 23:55Speaker 1: the story here, Like she had a book idea that
- 23:59Speaker 1: was exiting at one point and then didn't do it.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I don't know. I think she is in the world
- 24:06Speaker 1: and she meets people and they, you know, she says
- 24:09Speaker 1: someday I'd like to write a book and they say,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I'd love to talk about that when the time comes,
- 24:13Speaker 1: as a throwaway coming. Yeah, And whether they're actually in
- 24:16Speaker 1: the market for whatever type of books she would write
- 24:19Speaker 1: at the time, clearly they are not. Yeah, she's gonna
- 24:22Speaker 1: have to get a job. At the point she so
- 24:26Speaker 1: waiting tables. I had a timeline question, okay, because Dell
- 24:30Speaker 1: goes outside and my note say Dell confronts Clark Kent
- 24:33Speaker 1: about mailing a letter. Clark can't another glasses character wearing glasses. Yeah,
- 24:39Speaker 1: so it's Elliot Augustine, longtime family friend. It appears that
- 24:43Speaker 1: maybe he's supervising this high school program where they students
- 24:46Speaker 1: volunteer on the farm before school. What time is it,
- 24:48Speaker 1: It's like six am.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Man.
- 24:50Speaker 1: So, first of all, a lot happens. I believe that
- 24:54Speaker 1: he says he didn't send the letter. M hm. Whether
- 24:57Speaker 1: he was lying or genuine only unclear about who sent
- 25:02Speaker 1: the letter, but he says it wasn't me. I think
- 25:06Speaker 1: it was him, Okay, only because I maybe he just says,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I don't know what you're talking about, because I in
- 25:14Speaker 1: his adult life, he knows that Alice is going to return.
- 25:18Speaker 1: He had to send the letter to get her there.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I don't know. Yes, good point, good point, I know.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Spoiler alert skipping the head. Elliott and Kat are reacquainted,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and mom says, oh, you have a lot in common,
- 25:27Speaker 1: what with your divorces and oh my god, so shady
- 25:29Speaker 1: you're both single. Shade. Kat and Elliott chat for a minute,
- 25:36Speaker 1: and then apparently Alice is all of a sudden miss conscience.
- 25:39Speaker 1: She's about getting to school on time. She barrels out
- 25:41Speaker 1: the door. I was like, Mom, we gotta go. Yeah,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I gotta say, my own fifteen year old is does
- 25:46Speaker 1: the same thing. Mind is too. You know, he takes
- 25:48Speaker 1: his time, takes his time, takes his time, and then
- 25:50Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he's like, everybody, are you ready? Yeah?
- 25:53Speaker 1: I'm the one that said yeah the whole My question is,
- 25:57Speaker 1: if Alice is leaving for school in that moment, why
- 25:59Speaker 1: is it miss to Augustine already? You know, I know
- 26:02Speaker 1: it's it's kind of messy hair. Yeah, the teachers need
- 26:05Speaker 1: to get to school before they'll the other students who
- 26:08Speaker 1: are working in the farm, don't they need to get
- 26:10Speaker 1: to school too, right? So I did see that Elliott
- 26:13Speaker 1: he has a peculiar reaction to Alice seeing her. I
- 26:17Speaker 1: think this is his first time that he sees her,
- 26:20Speaker 1: or that we see that he sees her. Okay, there's
- 26:22Speaker 1: something weird there, we'll see. Okay, she does meet a
- 26:26Speaker 1: few of the farm teens at school. They seem like
- 26:29Speaker 1: nice kids. They seem like these are potential friends of hers. Yeah,
- 26:33Speaker 1: I hope. So now Kat and Braden are yelling at
- 26:35Speaker 1: each other and Kat is super mad that he turned
- 26:38Speaker 1: Alice down. I'm kind of surprised by that, because I
- 26:43Speaker 1: don't think there's any way he could have done the
- 26:45Speaker 1: right thing in this moment. Yeah, he either says come
- 26:47Speaker 1: home and now she's like, what are you doing to me? Right?
- 26:51Speaker 1: Or he's breaking their daughter's heart, right, so damned if
- 26:55Speaker 1: you do. Here. I do feel that he did empathize
- 27:00Speaker 1: with Kat's return at home, like he understand me. They
- 27:05Speaker 1: were like teenage loves right, so he he knew Dell
- 27:08Speaker 1: at one time, or he knew what their home was
- 27:10Speaker 1: like at one time and the tragedy that unfolds, and
- 27:15Speaker 1: he's so he feels empathy for her that she's back
- 27:18Speaker 1: there and having to deal with that. Yeah, and she
- 27:20Speaker 1: tells Dad and Jacob have been erased from the house. Yeah,
- 27:23Speaker 1: And how weird it is he thought he had. It
- 27:26Speaker 1: was such a jer a moment of redemption. Yes, I agree.
- 27:29Speaker 1: I always find out Dell's keeping bees. And this is
- 27:31Speaker 1: my favorite line of the entire episode, when Kat's like,
- 27:34Speaker 1: why did you change the house? It's like an Airbnb
- 27:37Speaker 1: in there, right, And I thought, like the shells on
- 27:40Speaker 1: the tray. Yes, I totally agree, and Delle spends it
- 27:44Speaker 1: right back on Cat. She's like, you're floundering, and Kat's like,
- 27:48Speaker 1: of course I'm floundering. You erased. My life's kind of sad.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It's really sad. And I thought, again, where is the warm,
- 27:57Speaker 1: fuzzy mom, Like, yes, I'm floundering. My marriage ended. I've
- 28:01Speaker 1: had to uproot my life and move back home because
- 28:03Speaker 1: I've lost my job. It's very clear that I'm floundering.
- 28:06Speaker 1: And I come back home a place that is supposed
- 28:08Speaker 1: to feel welcoming and warm and like home. Yes, and
- 28:12Speaker 1: it doesn't feel like that. I just think that some
- 28:15Speaker 1: people are not capable of that. Yeah. So again wants
- 28:20Speaker 1: me to know more about what happened to Dell. Yes,
- 28:25Speaker 1: of course something has hardened her up over the years. Yes,
- 28:29Speaker 1: she has healing to do. Yeah, she's obviously had some
- 28:33Speaker 1: trauma too. Yeah. And then shocker Alice is in mister
- 28:36Speaker 1: Augustine's classroom and he offers to talk to her any place, anytime. Yeah.
- 28:43Speaker 1: And my daughter and I were watching this together and
- 28:44Speaker 1: I go, eh, you hear that? And then these oh,
- 28:49Speaker 1: real shitty classmates, Oh is it getting hot in here?
- 28:52Speaker 1: And they pretend to pullifier alarm. Yeah, damn, that's not
- 28:55Speaker 1: even funny. It's not this time for a creepy basement.
- 28:58Speaker 1: That was kind of scary. When was the last time
- 29:00Speaker 1: anybody was in here? Lamps are on their side, it's
- 29:03Speaker 1: a full mes. Kind of surprised Delle kept a basement
- 29:07Speaker 1: in such a disarray. Yeah, it was kind of funny
- 29:10Speaker 1: because Kat pulls out like Jacob's one box of memories.
- 29:14Speaker 1: It's like it's just like one cardboard box Jacob. She
- 29:18Speaker 1: was going through that, but she was just looking at
- 29:20Speaker 1: like there was like a box and a ball. And
- 29:23Speaker 1: we get to that little mysterious box later on. Yeah,
- 29:25Speaker 1: a little tin he's gonna use for his treasures. Yes,
- 29:28Speaker 1: And we see a flashback of her dad and Jacob
- 29:30Speaker 1: fixing a clock together, a real sweet moment. And then
- 29:33Speaker 1: we find out miss Alice skips school pieced out. Yeah,
- 29:37Speaker 1: I probably would have two, Like that was probably it
- 29:39Speaker 1: for her. Like the kid's making fun of her. She's like,
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm out of hair and doing that. So she's been
- 29:43Speaker 1: spotted at the Point cafe and Income's mom. Yeah, I
- 29:46Speaker 1: really love that because Alice is sitting at a table
- 29:50Speaker 1: and she's watching a birthday video of herself and she
- 29:54Speaker 1: has these huge like Beats headphones on right, like which
- 29:58Speaker 1: apod Max's it was. Is that what they were? I
- 30:01Speaker 1: don't know, but big headphones, huge headphones, And I was
- 30:04Speaker 1: kind of like, what a fifteen year old really? Well,
- 30:07Speaker 1: let me tell you the AirPod max is very popular, okay,
- 30:10Speaker 1: Arry six or her dollars headphones? Oh my gosh. So anyway,
- 30:13Speaker 1: the mom's like headphones, yes, Cat, you can tell who
- 30:20Speaker 1: we relate to in this show. And she's mad that
- 30:22Speaker 1: Alice hasn't given it a chance. And we see them
- 30:27Speaker 1: back at home arguing about Alice moving home, and in
- 30:30Speaker 1: a real dick move, I think Kat tells Alice that
- 30:33Speaker 1: Rachel has moved in. You think that's a dick move
- 30:36Speaker 1: because it's not appropriate for the mom to tell the daughter.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I think she was kind of trying to hurt her
- 30:42Speaker 1: daughter a little bit. Oh you think so? It felt
- 30:44Speaker 1: like it. She was like, you can't move home because
- 30:46Speaker 1: Rachel has moved in, Like Rachel has taken your place.
- 30:49Speaker 1: And I guess the question here is if this is
- 30:54Speaker 1: her dad's new girlfriend. If he's moved in, things are serious.
- 30:57Speaker 1: At some point, Kat and Rachel are going to have
- 30:59Speaker 1: to coexist. They're gonna have to live together at some point,
- 31:03Speaker 1: or at least have a like a life that overlaps. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 1: but to me, but like her mom wasn't getting through
- 31:10Speaker 1: to Alice and she wanted to land a blow. I
- 31:13Speaker 1: think that's fair. I also think perhaps she could be like,
- 31:18Speaker 1: she needs Alice on her team and let's be dad together,
- 31:23Speaker 1: and this is the reason why. Yeah, but I don't know.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Alice runs into the woods, throws the bracelet that we
- 31:30Speaker 1: know her mother had given her into the pond, and
- 31:33Speaker 1: then pretty much she instantly regrets it. Yeah right, she
- 31:36Speaker 1: checks it in and then she walks out onto the
- 31:39Speaker 1: step or the rock, whatever it is, and like she's
- 31:42Speaker 1: looking looking, looking, and I gotta say, like they made
- 31:45Speaker 1: the pond look really kind of not desirable to swim in, right,
- 31:50Speaker 1: Murky Murky, And even Dell had says earlier in the
- 31:53Speaker 1: episode that she's like, it's more of like a sinkhole
- 31:56Speaker 1: than it is a pond. You know, there's like the
- 31:59Speaker 1: floating on it and whatever. Would you ever just jump
- 32:01Speaker 1: into a pond? No, I don't know what's in there,
- 32:06Speaker 1: Absolutely not anyway, So she's like reaching in. This is
- 32:11Speaker 1: the part that's a little bit unbelievable to me. She's
- 32:13Speaker 1: like reaching reaching the bracelet has sunk it's not going
- 32:17Speaker 1: to be floating on the top right. And then all
- 32:19Speaker 1: of a sudden she falls in head head over feet,
- 32:22Speaker 1: you know, yeah, and the sea weed gets her, which
- 32:25Speaker 1: looks like fern, you know what I'm talking about. The
- 32:31Speaker 1: fern is wrapping her up in her legs and she's
- 32:35Speaker 1: flailing underwater with the big eyes and she's you know, panicking,
- 32:40Speaker 1: I guess. And then a hand reaches out pulls her
- 32:43Speaker 1: out of the water and it's Cat. Yeah, young Cat, Yes.
- 32:49Speaker 1: And back to present day, We've got Cat and Elliott
- 32:51Speaker 1: talking in the kitchen and can't can't believe the old
- 32:54Speaker 1: Alice isn't back. And at this point I yelled at
- 32:56Speaker 1: my TV after one night, Cat, she's not bringing her
- 32:59Speaker 1: a back cam would bring the old Alice back. It's
- 33:02Speaker 1: going to take a minute. Yeah, I mean, lower your expectations.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Ken Elliott like reference a song They referenced Everybody's Free
- 33:13Speaker 1: by Rosala, the spoken word hit of the nineties. I
- 33:16Speaker 1: don't even know that song, hold on, it's from nineteen
- 33:22Speaker 1: ninety two. I was a sophomore in high school. Guys,
- 33:29Speaker 1: I was sixth grader. What a weird song to reference?
- 33:34Speaker 1: I know there were some nineties deep cuts in this episode.
- 33:38Speaker 1: That is a weird one to me. I think so too. Yeah,
- 33:40Speaker 1: I think a better song reference there would have been
- 33:42Speaker 1: like some sort of rim song, like everybody hurts sometime,
- 33:47Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about? That arim song. So
- 33:49Speaker 1: I don't know everybody cut back. Young Cat and Allys
- 33:54Speaker 1: are walking, Alice is soaking wet, and baby Elliott pops
- 33:57Speaker 1: his head out of the top window of what I
- 33:59Speaker 1: believe is a barn mm hm, and they meet Elliott,
- 34:02Speaker 1: our best friend, and then we have the first wowie
- 34:06Speaker 1: zowie of the way home. Actually that's not true, because
- 34:10Speaker 1: I actually think adult Elliott is quite a cutie. I agree,
- 34:15Speaker 1: but there is something about Colton. But Coulton turns around
- 34:20Speaker 1: with the cutest smile I've ever seen, and man, this
- 34:24Speaker 1: Jefferson Brown hot or what? Yeah, we did a little
- 34:27Speaker 1: dive on him today. Jefferson Brown forty seven years old, yep,
- 34:30Speaker 1: age appropriate, super cute. So I'm like, whoa, And I
- 34:36Speaker 1: think he's the perfect actor for this because what I'm
- 34:39Speaker 1: guessing is like he was the real heart of that home,
- 34:43Speaker 1: like theyre just was like warmth emanating from this actor
- 34:46Speaker 1: on screen, Like, oh, they have such a nice fam God.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I just hope we get more of him, I know,
- 34:51Speaker 1: and flashbacks, you know, I just hope, like it's not
- 34:53Speaker 1: just to establish like the story in this episode, I
- 34:56Speaker 1: hope we get more of it. I think we will.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I think we will. Okay, and then enters Young Cat's
- 35:01Speaker 1: bedroom lands of the calendar, and that's when we learned
- 35:03Speaker 1: that it is nineteen ninety nine. And this is why
- 35:06Speaker 1: it is important that that program said two thousand. We
- 35:09Speaker 1: don't have a lot of time to work with here, right,
- 35:12Speaker 1: It's kind of interesting. Something has to go bad. Alice
- 35:15Speaker 1: knows that her grandfather passes away, and she probably knew
- 35:18Speaker 1: when he passed away. I'm wondering when she's gonna make
- 35:21Speaker 1: the connection of how little time she has left in
- 35:27Speaker 1: this past before she loses him, right, And was it
- 35:31Speaker 1: established if Jacob died before Colton, not that I'm aware of,
- 35:36Speaker 1: or if they died at the same time. Yeah, I
- 35:38Speaker 1: don't know. I don't think so, based on the conversation
- 35:41Speaker 1: happens later. But let's get back to it, Okay. This
- 35:45Speaker 1: was one of my favorite scenes because Young Cat is
- 35:50Speaker 1: getting some clothes for Alice to change into, and she
- 35:54Speaker 1: says something about her like clothes not being great or whatever,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and Alice says the nineties are totally back in style anyway, yes,
- 36:03Speaker 1: and Cats like what never mind? Well, I picked up
- 36:06Speaker 1: on that too. But what I loved about that scene
- 36:08Speaker 1: is earlier, when Alice is leaving the house, She's like,
- 36:11Speaker 1: I don't even know what's weird to school. I hate
- 36:13Speaker 1: everything I own. And then Kat basically says the exact
- 36:15Speaker 1: same thing. She's like, here, I hate everything I own. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:18Speaker 1: I think that's pretty typical of fifteen year old of course,
- 36:21Speaker 1: of course forty three year old women. Yes, do we
- 36:24Speaker 1: ever grow out of that? I don't know. And then
- 36:27Speaker 1: we see Dell at the kitchen table with young Jacob
- 36:29Speaker 1: looking at his polaroids and telling him that he has
- 36:31Speaker 1: a beautiful eye for photography. Foreshadowing and the groundwork there,
- 36:39Speaker 1: and then LA get Alice in the baby doll dress. Yes, yes,
- 36:44Speaker 1: we're gonna have a little bit more to talk about
- 36:47Speaker 1: that baby doll dress. Yeah yeah, yeah. At the end
- 36:50Speaker 1: in our new segment, noticed in the nineties, Noticed in
- 36:54Speaker 1: the nineties, So we're at the dinner table. It's kind
- 36:58Speaker 1: of crazy because we're in the same home, We're in
- 37:01Speaker 1: the same dinner situation, and it's very lively and fun
- 37:05Speaker 1: and and you know they're talking and they're talking about
- 37:08Speaker 1: Cat getting a job at the camp, and of course
- 37:11Speaker 1: she has to go because you never know who she's
- 37:14Speaker 1: gonna be. Of course that's where she meets her future husband.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Do we then go to the scene in present day, Yes,
- 37:19Speaker 1: we do, because then we go back to this scene. Yes.
- 37:21Speaker 1: So now I got a Cat and Dell at the
- 37:22Speaker 1: kitchen table in present day, right. And this this is
- 37:25Speaker 1: what's wild to me, is because we it's we're comparing
- 37:30Speaker 1: and contrasting. Like the scene it takes place in the
- 37:34Speaker 1: same place, yes, and one is lively and full of life,
- 37:40Speaker 1: and I guess those two things mean the same. And
- 37:43Speaker 1: then we have like it's almost like the coloring of
- 37:46Speaker 1: it is even like darker. Yeah, she's sitting in the
- 37:50Speaker 1: same chair Dell. Yes. Also side note, I had read
- 37:54Speaker 1: an article from Annie McDowell and she said that she
- 37:58Speaker 1: was a little bit worried about shooting the scenes with her.
- 38:02Speaker 1: She's wearing a wig in those scenes, and she was
- 38:04Speaker 1: a little bit worried because she's like her neck was
- 38:07Speaker 1: going to give away her age. Oh interesting, And she's
- 38:11Speaker 1: like but luckily like the director shot it with like
- 38:13Speaker 1: kind of like an out of focus you know, filter
- 38:16Speaker 1: or whatever, and I was like, oh god, I feel
- 38:19Speaker 1: your pain with this situation too. But that's how I
- 38:24Speaker 1: remember Andy mcdoalt with like this dark curly hair. Yeah,
- 38:28Speaker 1: she looks great grey. I thought, either way, she looks great.
- 38:31Speaker 1: She's so gorgeous. One thing I really noticed in this
- 38:33Speaker 1: scene is Della's calm and Cat's freaking out because Alice
- 38:37Speaker 1: is missing, and delsa she'll be fine, and Kat says, well,
- 38:40Speaker 1: Jacob wasn't out. That's below the belt, don't you think so?
- 38:44Speaker 1: So that Alea's me to believe there was an accident.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I hope he didn't drown in the pond looking for
- 38:51Speaker 1: the White Witch foreshadowy. Oh my goodness. Back to nineteen
- 38:54Speaker 1: eighty nine. Dad's playing guitar and is this where Alice
- 38:57Speaker 1: gets her musical talent from? Oh my God, A Voice
- 39:00Speaker 1: of an angel? Singing along with Colton. They were singing
- 39:05Speaker 1: better Be Home Soon by Crowded House. I mean that
- 39:08Speaker 1: was a nineties I don't I'm not familiar with that song,
- 39:11Speaker 1: but crowded House a ninety staple. Yeah. I thought it
- 39:14Speaker 1: was really sweet because you know, she like apologizes for
- 39:17Speaker 1: singing along, and I, from the perspective of a parent,
- 39:21Speaker 1: I loved the idea of, like any of my kids
- 39:24Speaker 1: friends feeling that comfortable in our house. Totally like to
- 39:27Speaker 1: be that part of the moment. I don't there's no
- 39:30Speaker 1: parent that wouldn't like love that moment. And then Colton says,
- 39:33Speaker 1: never apologize for talent. Now here's what's interesting to me.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Alice is going to go home and Delle's like, oh
- 39:40Speaker 1: cold and toll walk you and she's like, no, no, no,
- 39:41Speaker 1: I'll be fine, and they just like give it up. Yeah,
- 39:44Speaker 1: because always just got to go jump back in the pond, right, Yeah,
- 39:47Speaker 1: But first Jake takes polarin. Yes, but wait he did
- 39:51Speaker 1: he does mention the white Witch. Did you not catch
- 39:54Speaker 1: that part? I did, so Jacob says to her, like, oh,
- 39:59Speaker 1: don't let the white which get you on the way home,
- 40:02Speaker 1: and Dalla says, oh lord, yeah, So I mean obviously
- 40:09Speaker 1: he's referring to like this lore of this girl being
- 40:15Speaker 1: chased and jumping into the pond, who maybe then drowned there.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Perhaps we don't know. Is she haunting people? So many
- 40:24Speaker 1: unanswered questions. As Alice leaves, she looks back into the
- 40:26Speaker 1: window and it's a very sweet family tableau that she
- 40:29Speaker 1: looks upon. Tableau. There's that word. Anyway, we did mention
- 40:34Speaker 1: that Jacob takes a picture, right, Jacob takes poloroid? Yeah,
- 40:37Speaker 1: we did. And we see Kat back in present day,
- 40:40Speaker 1: calling Alice, leaving her a message begging her to come home.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Here's my issue with that scene. What no teen listens
- 40:46Speaker 1: to their voicemail? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not even
- 40:49Speaker 1: sure my son has an outgoing message set up on
- 40:51Speaker 1: his She doesn't have Life three sixty on there where
- 40:53Speaker 1: she can like find find my phone, find my friends,
- 40:57Speaker 1: something where she can locate her daughter, apple air tag
- 41:01Speaker 1: on this girl who's obviously been in trouble the last year,
- 41:04Speaker 1: like something to find her. I just think like they're
- 41:09Speaker 1: living in a different lifestyle, like out in this farm,
- 41:12Speaker 1: like you. She'll be home when she gets home. Nothing
- 41:15Speaker 1: bad happens here, you know. But I don't. I don't
- 41:19Speaker 1: think she feels that way. Shit, I don't literally freaked out.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Kat doesn't feel that way. Yeah yeah, And then Kat
- 41:24Speaker 1: opens Jacob's jar of treasures and finds the stack of photos.
- 41:29Speaker 1: And this is the moment I thought we've lost Wendy no, no, no,
- 41:32Speaker 1: no you didn't. I was like, oh, it's a real
- 41:37Speaker 1: Marty McFly moo. Yeah, I was into it. I was
- 41:42Speaker 1: super into it. She flips through the photos and of
- 41:44Speaker 1: course she sees the one that he took with Alice
- 41:47Speaker 1: in it, and there's something blocking her so she can't
- 41:49Speaker 1: see her face, but you do see her dress. Yes,
- 41:52Speaker 1: So I'm wondering, like, does Cat have memory of this,
- 41:56Speaker 1: this event pulling this girl Alice out of the water.
- 42:00Speaker 1: This is where time travel gets real sticky for me,
- 42:03Speaker 1: right because it hadn't happened, but of course it had
- 42:06Speaker 1: already happened. Elliott remembers her. Yes, and Elliott says, don't worry,
- 42:11Speaker 1: Alice will find her way home. Yes. This is when
- 42:14Speaker 1: we now see Alice climbing up into the barn to
- 42:17Speaker 1: go talk to Elliott and she's like, I need your
- 42:19Speaker 1: help and he's like, what we've just met? What are
- 42:23Speaker 1: you talking about? And she's like, you got to trust me.
- 42:25Speaker 1: You told me you'd help me anytime, any place, and
- 42:28Speaker 1: you just help me right now. The next scene down
- 42:31Speaker 1: by the water is playing over adult Elliott waiting for
- 42:34Speaker 1: Cap to return to the pond. Day Yeah, yeah, and
- 42:37Speaker 1: now you have to wait a whole week for another episode.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I know I was. There was part of me that
- 42:41Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, I wish this was a
- 42:43Speaker 1: two hour premiere. I wish I could binge watch all
- 42:46Speaker 1: of these like it hooked me. It hooked me. Good
- 42:49Speaker 1: me too. We've definitely watched shows we're at the end,
- 42:52Speaker 1: You're like, hmm, then I'll give it another one or
- 42:55Speaker 1: two to see if I get into it. I did
- 42:56Speaker 1: not feel like that at the end of the day.
- 42:57Speaker 1: We have a couple of recurring segments that we're going
- 42:59Speaker 1: to include Flude in these episodes. I'm excited about these.
- 43:02Speaker 1: First is noticed in the nineties, Yes, ma'am. We don't
- 43:05Speaker 1: spend a lot of time in the nineties in this episode,
- 43:08Speaker 1: but I would say, what was the standout? It was
- 43:12Speaker 1: the baby doll dress. Thousand percent. It was the baby
- 43:15Speaker 1: doll dress. We had to do a little googling. I mean,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I was in the nineties. I graduated high school in
- 43:21Speaker 1: nineteen ninety three. I remember wearing a baby doll dress
- 43:23Speaker 1: myself in nineteen ninety four around that time. Yeah, so
- 43:29Speaker 1: they're saying this is nineteen ninety nine, and I don't
- 43:32Speaker 1: think the baby doll dress was that popular. No, A
- 43:36Speaker 1: little research told us that the baby doll dress was
- 43:38Speaker 1: a little more popular in the early part of the century.
- 43:41Speaker 1: But I will say as a fashion statement of the nineties,
- 43:46Speaker 1: I do think it's maybe the most standout piece because
- 43:50Speaker 1: a lot of what we have, you know, nineteen ninety nine,
- 43:53Speaker 1: the look of nineteen eighty ninety is like black pants. Yeah.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Anybody who was a young adultnineteen ninety nine knows what
- 44:00Speaker 1: that means. What are you wearing black pants? Yeah? And
- 44:03Speaker 1: probably like big black sandals with it too, uh huh.
- 44:06Speaker 1: And a going out top. Black pants and a cute
- 44:08Speaker 1: top was an outfit and has how you would describe it.
- 44:11Speaker 1: I don't think that translates as well because on screen
- 44:13Speaker 1: it just looks like a very basic outfit. And I
- 44:16Speaker 1: think a lot of what else was popular at this time,
- 44:18Speaker 1: you know, like crop tops and Adidas style sweatpants, I
- 44:24Speaker 1: think the baby doll dress is more of a look
- 44:28Speaker 1: that communicates nineties. I did think it was interesting, and
- 44:31Speaker 1: I didn't talk about this in that moment because I
- 44:33Speaker 1: knew we were coming to it. If you were going
- 44:35Speaker 1: to borrow clothes from someone, wouldn't it just be like
- 44:38Speaker 1: it's pants? It would get a full outfit. But again
- 44:43Speaker 1: they were trying to make that ninety statement. Next up,
- 44:46Speaker 1: every week, we're going to crown a homie of the week,
- 44:48Speaker 1: Homie of the Week. During the premiere of this episode,
- 44:53Speaker 1: Hallmark was like in their Instagram stories trying to come
- 44:58Speaker 1: up with a name for their fans. Uh did you
- 45:03Speaker 1: see any of it? I didn't. But are they calling
- 45:05Speaker 1: them homies homies? Was it an option? Ponders? No? Vetogeather
- 45:11Speaker 1: ponderers No was another? And there was one more Hallmark
- 45:17Speaker 1: Channel unofficial poll for a name for the Way Home
- 45:19Speaker 1: Hallmarkies Homies, ponders, ponderers and wadeers wayders with the double
- 45:27Speaker 1: entendre there because you wade into a pond. Yeah. I
- 45:29Speaker 1: don't like that one either. I mean, homies is a
- 45:31Speaker 1: clear choice, right A. Hallmark responds way Homies has also
- 45:35Speaker 1: been suggested Homies was the clear winner with fifty percent
- 45:38Speaker 1: of the vote, So we named this segment prior to
- 45:43Speaker 1: the airing of this episode, We're going with Homie of
- 45:46Speaker 1: the Week. Yeah, because I feel like there was so
- 45:48Speaker 1: much set up in this episode. I think there's there's
- 45:51Speaker 1: potential for every single person, but the person who grabbed
- 45:55Speaker 1: us is Jefferson Brown for his qt qtie, smile, dad cold,
- 46:00Speaker 1: and yeah, man, he turned around seriously. I do, I know,
- 46:05Speaker 1: I know. I thought it was just me. I was like,
- 46:07Speaker 1: am I into old dudes? Oh dude age? I know.
- 46:12Speaker 1: And in the episode he's the father of a teenager
- 46:16Speaker 1: and like an eight year old, so he's eight. I know,
- 46:22Speaker 1: I know. It's just weird. I'm in my own weird
- 46:25Speaker 1: time travel like I can't you know. Yeah, he's nice
- 46:29Speaker 1: to look at. Yeah. Colton is our homie of the week.
- 46:33Speaker 1: That wraps up our recap of episode one, the pilot
- 46:36Speaker 1: episode Mothers and Daughters of the Way Home. Goodbye everybody, Bye.
- 46:52Speaker 1: All right friends, before we go, just a quick heads up,
- 46:55Speaker 1: you're about to hear some ads. These little gems help
- 46:57Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the home park love flowing.

- 47:03Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe just maybe listen in
- 47:07Speaker 1: and discover your new favorite product. Bye.
