- 0:19I have with me, Neil Thorn today, and we're going to be
- 0:21talking about spacex's Starship and the latest news down at
- 0:25Starbase, Texas. How you doing today?
- 0:27Neal Goodwill? How are you?
- 0:28I am doing. Fantastic.
- 0:31So we had a static fire of 31 engines at Starbase recent good
- 0:37way of the Starship, I must have missed that.
- 0:39We stir seven prototype and I hope not so many things are
- 0:43happening. It's easy to miss.
- 0:44No, I definitely saw that. That was an incredible.
- 0:48So much fire. Yeah it's so much power so much
- 0:52fire that was supposed to be a 33 engine static fire, Elon Musk
- 0:56said that they didn't fire two of the engines for.
- 1:00We don't know, really know the reasons at this point.
- 1:02One of them shot down. Right?
- 1:04Right before they fired they shut that one down on purpose
- 1:07and then he said the other one just didn't fire at all.
- 1:11So there will be a an engine replacement at some point and
- 1:15maybe two Yeah. Possibly maybe more who knows
- 1:19like and if they shut the do you think they shut the one down on
- 1:22purpose to test to see what it would do?
- 1:25If there was a failure before the flight you think is just a
- 1:29test possibly or do you think that was something that they've
- 1:33done that already? I don't think they do, they
- 1:35would do that at McGregor. When they're testing the
- 1:36engines, they would figure out how to test that sort of stuff.
- 1:39I think that they shut it down because they recognize the
- 1:41problem with it. That's what I'm assuming to.
- 1:44Yeah, because there's been speculation that they did it on
- 1:47purpose because there was, they were doing a test and I want to
- 1:52get it out there, that there was a possibility, a slim
- 1:55possibility that was a chance, but more than likely they saw
- 2:00something wrong with it. And we're like, this is going to
- 2:01mess everything up. Shut it down before we do this
- 2:04static fire. Yeah.
- 2:06It could have been move automatically to it could have
- 2:08been a computer that shut it down.
- 2:10Yep. Which let's face it computers
- 2:12are going to be able to react much faster than humans that do
- 2:14a problem and have a set number of parameters that they'll
- 2:18operate under and there's no questioning.
- 2:20So my guess is that a computer shut it down Yeah, that's my
- 2:25assumption as well. We'll never know.
- 2:27It's a very good thing. Yeah.
- 2:29It's a very good thing. Very good.
- 2:31We don't want. Now between is I didn't squeal
- 2:33on asking him how many engines, he said that it's still had
- 2:36enough engines to make it to orbit.
- 2:37So I tweeted him. How many engines does it
- 2:39actually need to get to orbit, has not responded yet, so we'll
- 2:42see if that ever comes through. Yeah, and if they can make it
- 2:47with 31 engines, that's a fantastic thing because they're
- 2:51going to be trying to fly with 33 and if something does happen
- 2:54to go wrong during their first orbital flight test, it's all
- 2:57right they shut off an engine. Yeah, the static fire.
- 2:59We saw they said was about 50% little lesson maybe in 50
- 3:03percent power and they plan to launch at about 90% power.
- 3:07So if you lose three engine, this is ridiculous.
- 3:10Yeah, if you lose three engines, you go up to 92% power and they
- 3:16compensate. Yep.
- 3:17It's nice to have that ten percent Gap where you can go a
- 3:21little bit stronger on the ones that aren't that are running to
- 3:24compensate for the ones that don't.
- 3:26Yeah, it's a great Fail-Safe mechanism by SpaceX and their
- 3:31whole engineering team over there.
- 3:32They've thought of everything and they go to orbit all the
- 3:34time. That's the thing that people
- 3:36don't realize is that the Falcon 9 goes to orbit all the time in
- 3:40the Falcon heavy, which has just a few engines, less than the
- 3:44Starship goes to orbit. And so they know how to do it.
- 3:47And they know they know the parameters that they need to
- 3:49work under. Yeah.
- 3:50Of course, these are my new engines, Falcon 9 having nine
- 3:54engines. So 27, on three boosters, 33
- 3:58here. Yeah, just a few less.
- 4:02Just it's such a weird thing. Yeah.
- 4:05Just a few, it's amazing things talking about it.
- 4:08These engines being much more powerful, That's okay and and
- 4:14they're not tested as many times as the Falcon 9 engines as well,
- 4:19though, they do have a rigorous test schedule, Falcon, 9's been
- 4:21in operation for what 10 years or so, something like that.
- 4:26Well, but more than that, I think so.
- 4:28Yeah. So they know the Falcon 9's
- 4:31engines parameters, and these new ones, the Raptors, their
- 4:35other relatively new in the span of time, that SpaceX has been
- 4:39operating, for sure. Yeah.
- 4:40But tested but Test. Yeah, they know how to do this
- 4:42stuff. Yeah.
- 4:43Not tested in orbit yet so excited.
- 4:45Yeah. And when Shotwell greenshot well
- 4:47said they're going to do the static fire and then get ready
- 4:50for an orbital flight test. There's a bunch of stuff they
- 4:52have to do. And before that, of course and
- 4:56there are some, I think there's some only the engineers at
- 4:59SpaceX know about, but we can speculate about some of the
- 5:01things that will be going on and the future.
- 5:04And like the next couple weeks coming up to a possible orbital
- 5:09flight test in one of the spectacle you did.
- 5:11System. Yep.
- 5:13Are we love it? Yeah, the giant space X is had a
- 5:16whole bunch of whole bunch of Tanks delivered recently.
- 5:20So they're going to be boosting up, the Deluge system which is
- 5:24of course water that they spray underneath the rocket as it's
- 5:28being fired to reduce noise and as well as hopefully reduce a
- 5:32little bit of damage to the PAD as well.
- 5:35Yeah, and if you're not familiar, the smoke that you see
- 5:39coming from underneath a rocket that's not actually smoke,
- 5:42that's just vapor from the engines, hitting the water
- 5:45Deluge system, so the big plumes of smoke that are miles wide and
- 5:49huge. It's not smoke, it's vapor, it's
- 5:53just water hitting, super highly charged engines, and there's
- 5:58some burning going on as well, but definitely more the water
- 6:02vapor, but it also like Neil said it Ops vibrations as well,
- 6:07dampens the vibrations damson sound and since they do have
- 6:10people living nearby, they're like about a mile and a half of
- 6:12dampening. The sound in the vibrations is a
- 6:14really important thing, especially if you're going to
- 6:16have 90% engine thrust on takeoff.
- 6:18Because what we saw so far we saw some little bit of concrete,
- 6:23get destroyed from this one, but the concrete under the pad I've
- 6:27noticed in a few images from RGV aerial that there are.
- 6:33There's no damage to the pad underneath.
- 6:35If the Rapture engines, I was really surprised about or very
- 6:38minimal damage but I saw some like around it.
- 6:42Yeah, which is insane, but that there's damage around the pad
- 6:46with other concrete around the pad but not directly underneath
- 6:49which is crazy to think about for sure because the legs are
- 6:53definitely scorched. All they're charred yeah, it
- 6:56looks beautiful and I saw a picture today see Nunez posted a
- 7:00picture where it looks like to me.
- 7:02It looks like a pipe has been ruptured.
- 7:05Underneath the launch Mount as well.
- 7:07I don't know what could have done that.
- 7:08What it looks like it came from inside the pipe.
- 7:10Looks like it might be an over pressure inside the pipe or
- 7:12something. But anyway, easily replace its
- 7:14open me open. That's the beauty of this launch
- 7:17Mount. Is that everything's out there.
- 7:18It's a, it's easy to access easy to change and fix.
- 7:23Shouldn't be a problem and there's workers there. 24/7
- 7:27fixing these things. So probably next few days, we'll
- 7:30see somebody up there with a giant pipe.
- 7:32Yeah, I mean, it could be, it could be an illusion, may not be
- 7:34a ruptured pipe there, but it looks like it's ruptured to me.
- 7:40Yeah, that's um it looks it either looks like a rupture or
- 7:44it's some hold down points for it.
- 7:45Yeah. Yeah, there's definitely some
- 7:48damn it isn't and that is your expect that it looks so yeah.
- 7:53But every static fire, every launch attempt, they'll reduce
- 7:57all this problems because they'll figure out how to get
- 7:59around them. This should be good.
- 8:03Yeah, that's why it's a test vehicle.
- 8:04I like, that's what this whole thing is.
- 8:06It test is a test bed for future space flight because they're
- 8:10once they get down here, they're going to move everything over to
- 8:12Kennedy Space Center. And they'll have more launch
- 8:15attempts over there in the future.
- 8:17But right now, they're just very focused on its orbital flight
- 8:20test, which, like I said before, may happen.
- 8:24I don't know if it's going to happen, I don't know, Ilan said
- 8:27in March but Gwen Kate Marsh as well.
- 8:29There's Yeah, but all it always seems like whenever Ilan or
- 8:34somebody says, we're ready for March or we're ready to go.
- 8:39It seems like maybe not, but I don't know.
- 8:43I'm a little bit skeptical still of their timelines but once
- 8:47Gwynn said something I was like okay this is a possibility now
- 8:53because wins in charge when the church was she's in charge of
- 8:56Starbucks. Yes the one who knows what's
- 8:58going on? And she's doesn't have a track
- 9:00record of being Ahead of the game.
- 9:02She knows her dates are pretty set.
- 9:05Right. She did.
- 9:06It was just say it in a tweet. She said it had a conference
- 9:08with a bunch of other, very important space, flight and
- 9:12reporters, and other people in the industry.
- 9:14So I don't think she'd be blowing smoke at all.
- 9:17I think so it's also important to note that those comments were
- 9:20made before the static fire and who knows?
- 9:23If this radek fire brought something in the data that
- 9:26they're probably still analyzing brought something up that.
- 9:28It's going to change that. We haven't heard it, but it's
- 9:31possible that something changed. Yeah, it's a high possibility
- 9:36that we might not get a launch in March, but it's okay.
- 9:39April May June rolls around and we haven't had a launch yet.
- 9:42No, that's too light because they're learning every time they
- 9:45do. That's too far away.
- 9:46I don't want to wait that long. I don't want to wait either.
- 9:48I would love if we could get a March launch.
- 9:51That would be amazing. I would love it.
- 9:53But the if they do have to wait, if they do have to go through
- 9:57five or six more tests of the launch Mound or a static fires
- 10:02or something like that, just to get a perfect.
- 10:04That's completely. Okay in spacex's book to they
- 10:07can do they need to do what they need to do in order to have a
- 10:10very successful first flight and even Bill Nelson, who's the head
- 10:14of NASA said that it's great and the static fire was a success.
- 10:19So if you have somebody like Bill Nelson, in the mix saying
- 10:23that the SpaceX is doing the right thing, I think they're on
- 10:26the right course, and Bill Nelson sent out a tweet &,
- 10:29that's a pretty big deal for this guy.
- 10:34Yeah, for sure. And I think that it's important
- 10:37that this orbital flight works for SpaceX.
- 10:41I think that the more I that I live with this, the more I think
- 10:44about it, they want this thing to go across 100% flawlessly.
- 10:48They know how to get to orbit, they've been to orbit hundreds
- 10:50of times, so that's not the issue.
- 10:53This is not a new company trying to figure out orbital mechanics.
- 10:57This is an established company that has a new rocket.
- 11:01And they're going to do everything.
- 11:02They possibly can to get this thing up there.
- 11:04Successfully without any issues. I think that's the goal.
- 11:07And I think anything less than that.
- 11:09They're not going to be very happy with it.
- 11:11Obviously something happens. Then it happens.
- 11:13But I think that they're expecting this thing to work.
- 11:18Yeah, and then I think that Gwen's expecting the next flight
- 11:22to happen in two months. From that point, I think that
- 11:26they're probably expecting a very quick roll it.
- 11:28Like they've got Rockets backed up now, right?
- 11:30They've got 25. Sitting there ready to go?
- 11:33We've got 26 about start testing.
- 11:35I'm sure they've got pieces and parts of other Rockets sitting
- 11:38in the, in the build area to get going as well.
- 11:41And they're just sitting on them, they're not building them
- 11:44because there's nowhere to put them.
- 11:46So I think that there Ready to ramp up.
- 11:49They've got the booster nine ready to go.
- 11:51And yeah, I think that's I think they're ready to start this
- 11:54program in earnest. I think so too.
- 11:58And building the machine that builds the machine is the
- 12:01important part of the assembly line, that builds these Rockets.
- 12:04That's where they're at, right now.
- 12:05There are the testing is a huge undertaking, but everything that
- 12:10gets these Rockets to the test pad is way more important than
- 12:14the rocket themselves. Because once they get the
- 12:16manufacturing done properly, and they can roll these things out
- 12:20every few weeks, man. Gwynn said they want to do 100
- 12:24to 200 flights before they People in one of these things.
- 12:29That's right. So they only have a few years
- 12:31before Artemis 3. Yeah.
- 12:33And they also want. Yeah.
- 12:34They also want to meet those deadlines.
- 12:36So that's only like we're talking 50 flights a year.
- 12:39Yeah. Including this year.
- 12:42Yeah. Miss see, this rocket going up
- 12:454.5 times a month. Yeah.
- 12:47If they need to make those deadlines, if they want to get
- 12:49100 flights before they put people, that's what they did
- 12:51with. They did that with Falcon.
- 12:52They sent cargo numerous times to the space station before they
- 12:56had a human. Rated capsule ready, then they
- 12:58had to do, they had to do test flights at the capsule.
- 13:01They had to do, test flights with people in them.
- 13:04So they sent Bob and Doug to the space station, Bob and Doug came
- 13:07back down successfully and then NASA was like all right Bri for
- 13:11those guys. Oh my God.
- 13:13Legends Legends. Like as any test pilot is really
- 13:18like unbelievable risk that they take every day.
- 13:20Yeah kissing their families. Goodbye in the morning and Who
- 13:23knows at that point, right? Like unbelievable unbelievable
- 13:27guys. Yeah Bob and Doug are Champs in
- 13:30my book. I yeah.
- 13:31So they're going to have to go through something like that to
- 13:33like they're gonna have to send some people to orbit and then
- 13:37which is it's a possibility that they send some test pilots.
- 13:41We don't know who to orbit quite yet, Jared.
- 13:44Isaacman maybe but more than likely somebody else, they'll
- 13:49pick somebody else because Jarrod has a whole future with
- 13:52SpaceX. That there they probably should
- 13:54be worried about because he has a bunch of missions, coming up.
- 13:56And then we have, what if they have to get 100 to 200, flights?
- 14:00Do they have enough? FAA are they cleared them for
- 14:04that many flights from Texas? I thought it was only five
- 14:07flights per, oh, they won't all go from Texas for sure.
- 14:10No, there's yeah. If they're probably 75%, build a
- 14:13tower, built there another Tower in Florida on 39a and then they
- 14:18also have pad. Don't quote me on this pad 40
- 14:22in, Cape where they're planning on probably building two more
- 14:25Towers. So they'll be able to fly from
- 14:28three different Towers in Florida before, you know, that
- 14:32is ridiculous. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:34So there's no guarantee they're going to do two towers at 40 but
- 14:37there's space for it. So quote-unquote space for it.
- 14:41Yeah, there's no reason why they couldn't.
- 14:45And they've got the. They've also got the tankers
- 14:47they were talking about as well. Not the tankers the oil
- 14:49platforms. They've been they've mothballed
- 14:51for now, but at some point, that could revisit that and have
- 14:54those floating launches as well, yeah, and the only problem that
- 15:00I can see from Kennedy Space Center is the other traffic
- 15:03because they are going to have to slot in times, in between
- 15:06other launches that are going on with either their own Falcon,
- 15:099's, flying, or other things going to the space station or
- 15:13satellite launches or whatever else is it, Kennedy Space answer
- 15:16this question for me will Who else is launching right now?
- 15:19Well, when's the last time we launched though?
- 15:22How many contracts are they yeah?
- 15:24How many contracts to La have right now?
- 15:26Or is it all going to stay sex right now?
- 15:29Everything SpaceX. Yeah so these are the cheaper.
- 15:33Because of reusability 100%. I don't know that there's a lot
- 15:36of traffic down there, they have to worry about and they're going
- 15:39to be on the guys were talking about, right?
- 15:44They learn they own the pads that were talking about is
- 15:46building. These launch mounts are humble a
- 15:48launches from somewhere else and even so does that the hls?
- 15:52So yeah, and if they start moving, starlink launches to
- 15:58Starships, they will really need as many Falcon 9 launches from
- 16:01Kennedy Space Center, that just switch them over to a Starship.
- 16:04Yep. So do all the other nights.
- 16:07Yeah, exactly. And SpaceX is Starship, can hold
- 16:12a lot more than a June 9. As far as star links go.
- 16:16Absolutely will. They'll just continuously
- 16:19launch. Yeah.
- 16:19There's I just put the Falcon 9 inside of several fucking times
- 16:23inside of this and much smaller ones as possibility.
- 16:26Yeah, it's a possibility. That would be amazing.
- 16:32Wouldn't it may be their first test article inside of a
- 16:34Starship would be a falcon 9. The amazing fucking Luther.
- 16:38What with their boat 4 meters wide?
- 16:41Misaki-san. So, theoretically they made fit
- 16:44three at least, if not for, in the top, with some space then
- 16:48spent. Yeah, that would be a
- 16:50ridiculous. That would be obvious.
- 16:52That would be so funny. No, they wouldn't do that.
- 16:55It would be funny. I think that would be something
- 16:56that Elon would do is funny, goof gag kind of thing.
- 16:59Yeah, sorry launched a car. So, what's next step is.
- 17:02Yeah, exactly. Exactly, yeah.
- 17:05There's, there's just so much possibility, it Kennedy Space
- 17:08Center, and there's so much possibility.
- 17:10At Texas as well but of course like you were saying there's no
- 17:14real. There's no real flights coming
- 17:17out of Kennedy right now. Other than what I can see is I'm
- 17:21just looking at one now Taryn one from Cape Canaveral, there's
- 17:24Vandenberg SLC 40 Falcon 9. There's these are all Falcon 9's
- 17:30you have you while I Delta heavy a cape when as I see 737 that's
- 17:36in March. So yeah that's not gonna
- 17:38Nothing's Gonna Stop SpaceX. This is amazing know, they've
- 17:42proven, they can launch these things really quickly after each
- 17:45other, like, the last one was a record.
- 17:47Was it between the last two launches, like five days or
- 17:50something? If you only has something large,
- 17:52go ahead and launch. It will just set up tomorrow and
- 17:55set it up, and send it to space. The next day, these things are
- 17:58made for Rapid reuse ability, which has to equal rapid set up
- 18:02as well. They're one in the same, so I
- 18:04think that it's just a matter of saying, okay, we'll work around
- 18:07your schedule. Yeah, the only thing I can see
- 18:11here is Falcon, 9's and Falcon Heavies, and that couple of Ula,
- 18:14launches and Starliner. Star Liners in April but yes
- 18:21SpaceX was we spend the money and I'll start line is going to
- 18:24be great to that's gonna be a good one but that's it.
- 18:27Yeah SpaceX you're right. They have a monopoly.
- 18:29They have some artists here, come a monopoly for sure.
- 18:32Yeah. And you always got to start to
- 18:34figure out how to reuse some stuff.
- 18:37You know because they reuse something, you the way they're
- 18:41launching. Exactly whether launching right
- 18:44now is it's old technology. You can't get away with that
- 18:48anymore. The only reason that NASA can
- 18:51get away with it with the hls. Is that well there NASA?
- 18:57Yep. So exactly it.
- 18:59Sobbing program to needs to improve.
- 19:03Yeah, I agree. I agree and not just for the
- 19:06nose. I'll take it for 100 percent.
- 19:07Agree with that, 100% agree with that is moving forward.
- 19:12It's like people have likened it to Henry Ford when he built the
- 19:16first automobile in the assembly line and then everybody got a
- 19:20car. They took a little while for
- 19:21horses to go away. But then everybody had a car and
- 19:25then what do you do if you don't have Car anymore.
- 19:28That's like, where ula in the other people are at this point
- 19:31because they're just not that. They're old-school.
- 19:33Hear the horses of the spaceflight industry in Space X
- 19:37is the Henry. Ford in The Surety at this
- 19:40point. Yeah through I'm pits gone from
- 19:42again. Throw these launches.
- 19:43There's nothing. Yeah, it's ridiculous.
- 19:47It's ridiculous, pretty crazy. If you break down I haven't done
- 19:50this map. I don't have it in front of me,
- 19:52so don't ask for it, but if you break down the cost to get
- 19:55something to orbit through this, Fully reusable, 100%, reusable
- 19:59spacecraft. It's not outside.
- 20:02The realm of Realm of possibility that you and I could
- 20:04send something the space as far as Costco, right?
- 20:07It's still going to cost several tens of thousands of dollars,
- 20:10but it's not millions of dollars, that's for sure.
- 20:13If we want to send a brief case of our comic books up to space,
- 20:18we could probably do that for 20,000 30,000 dollars,
- 20:21something, and that's so accessible.
- 20:23Not that we want to do that or not that everybody in the world,
- 20:25should be able to do that. Because there's too much stuff
- 20:28up there, but it is, it's so cheap now or will be so cheap.
- 20:35Yeah, I'm just looking at if you want to send, let's say 10 kg to
- 20:40orbit to low earth orbit. It's about Point 3 mil to get up
- 20:43there on a ride. Share a small Sate Rideshare,
- 20:47but it says dedicated, how can our missions as low as 275?
- 20:51Yeah, out of Falcon died. 275 thousand dollars for a ride.
- 20:55Share for a falcon 9. Basically.
- 20:57Just raise some money somehow. If you have off and I'm talking
- 21:00about, I'm just talking boats Starship, which is good enough
- 21:03shape or it's going to be significant.
- 21:04Be lower. Yeah, obviously they have to
- 21:06fill it. There's gonna be so much room.
- 21:08Yeah, it's like sending a sending up a container ship
- 21:10across the ocean. You got to fill the container,
- 21:12they're not going to yet but I'm going to send a container ship
- 21:14with half the containers that are half full.
- 21:17That's not. It's not worth the money but if
- 21:20they could fill a Starship with cargo or satellites or whatever
- 21:24has to go up there, then yeah it just gets cheaper as more people
- 21:29add on to it. Yep. 252 Marshall.
- 21:33I think initially they'll do starlink just to mitigate risk
- 21:36for other people's payloads. Absolutely.
- 21:38But then other Pete wants other other space flight companies.
- 21:42See or satellite companies see that SpaceX can successfully
- 21:46launch star links. They're going to jump on board
- 21:48pretty soon thereafter and I think it's going to be a game
- 21:53changer for the spaceflight industry and there's gonna be so
- 21:55much money rolling in. That will fund at the Starship
- 21:59and the 500, whatever launches they're going to do every year.
- 22:05Yeah, knowing SpaceX. That's what's going to happen in
- 22:07the future. There's definitely people out
- 22:08there with more imagination than I have.
- 22:11Personally I wonder a question, how much we need to get into
- 22:16space from a business standpoint?
- 22:18Like how many satellites different people really need up
- 22:21there? I want just Starship going to
- 22:22actually take up there. Obviously starlings going to
- 22:25fill any gaps that That don't have that where they don't have
- 22:28cargo ride share programs and stuff like that, but beyond
- 22:32that, certainly, the ISS or whatever its successor be is
- 22:36will need cargo taken up when you go to the moon.
- 22:39Will need cargo for that Mars after that, but I wonder how
- 22:42many satellites are actually needed up there that will fill
- 22:45the Starship up constant. Yeah, it says, we don't see ya.
- 22:52We don't see constant flights of satellites every single day.
- 22:57From Kennedy Space Center on a falcon 9.
- 22:59It's once maybe twice a month, something like that, we're just
- 23:02taking up a fraction of the weight.
- 23:04So could you, it's what I think is happening at SpaceX is going
- 23:09into business business with themselves here and they're
- 23:13spending all the money building a Starship.
- 23:15So they can build this darlink, the satellite program, the whole
- 23:18thing and then they're going to IPO the star league program.
- 23:23And make money hand over fist, which are linked.
- 23:25So they can continue building Starships into starlink pays for
- 23:29Starship, which pays for starlink, which B is right.
- 23:32The pyramid scheme is very telling me Starships appear, I
- 23:35think so. I think it's an MLM.
- 23:36Yeah. Fixing a note.
- 23:40Next thing, you know, Elon Musk can be knocking on the door with
- 23:42Tupperware. Yeah.
- 23:44And here we have a Tupperware party now.
- 23:49It's it seems I mean business is Do that all the time though.
- 23:54They've separate divisions that by other things from other
- 23:57divisions and they treat them as two separate businesses but
- 23:59they're basically in business with themselves.
- 24:03So, it's much as I would love Tesla and SpaceX do that
- 24:07already. They have Tesla parts and SpaceX
- 24:09rockets for sure. Some actuators and some
- 24:11batteries. And yeah, batteries actually a
- 24:13somebody's worked against what's running the fins.
- 24:15Their Tesla best, the actuators. And berries.
- 24:20So, yeah, there's some gambling on some rockets that will be
- 24:23taken care of with some Tesla Parts as well in the future.
- 24:26Think that's what I read somewhere but I can't remember
- 24:28exactly what. Yeah, I heard them changing over
- 24:30from from the old system to Tesla Parts.
- 24:34Yeah. From Hydraulics to actual
- 24:36Motors. Yeah it's crazy.
- 24:39Yeah. If they're if I can certainly
- 24:41see something sorry Hiram. I was saying, if the company is
- 24:45someone companies good at something just hire him to do it
- 24:47if you Tesla's the best, edit higher Tesla, Exactly make
- 24:52sense. But works there to work here?
- 24:55Yep. No reason to reinvent anything.
- 24:58Yeah. So, what's next then down at
- 25:00Starbase we have a couple road closures that were canceled for
- 25:04Monday and Tuesday of this week. Wednesday.
- 25:06Looks like it's still on, but you said you mentioned ship. 26
- 25:11is down there. Yeah, we've got actually 25 on
- 25:15on one of the pads and one of the tests pads and ship 26,
- 25:17right beside it. It's become whole home to see to
- 25:19Starships down there now. But at one point, we were over
- 25:22the moon to see two of them down there at the same time, but
- 25:24yeah, 25 is just Really, it's just waiting.
- 25:29I think it's past most of its test.
- 25:30It needs to static fire a few more times but it's really just
- 25:34sitting there waiting for 24 to get out of the way. 26 is a
- 25:37different vehicle. 26 is missing a few things, right?
- 25:41Yeah, I know heat shield. No fins no heat shield, no fins.
- 25:44And what does that say though? What does that mean?
- 25:47Is that a tanker or is it a test?
- 25:49If it's a structural test of a new body?
- 25:53It's about it's no worse things, it's hard to know.
- 25:55But one thing for sure is it's not coming back, not in one
- 25:58piece anyway, it doesn't have any take doesn't have the heat
- 26:01shield to get through the atmosphere and then it doesn't
- 26:02have the fins to land. So This is this is a one-way
- 26:07trip for 26. If it actually makes it up, it
- 26:09could just be something, they're working on land.
- 26:13Yeah. And I was thinking about that
- 26:14because I saw reports that there's different structure on
- 26:19the inside of the ship for ship 26.
- 26:22Oh yeah. Compared to 24 25.
- 26:24I read that. So I think is on NASA space,
- 26:26flight forums and there was speculation that it is a test
- 26:31article for a tanker or some sort of Depot of some sort in to
- 26:36everybody out there. Listening that doesn't know what
- 26:38the depot. When the tanker that I'm talking
- 26:39about is SpaceX is going to have to refuel the starship.
- 26:42In orbit, in order to get the Starship to the moon, or to
- 26:46Mars, and they're going to have to have a fuel Depot.
- 26:49That these tankers will fly to these.
- 26:52Tankers will fly to a Depot, push all their extra fuel into
- 26:56these Depots and then a star ship will dock with that and
- 27:01then we'll go on its merry way after a fuels up, but this could
- 27:06be the inner workings of one of those kinds of ships because
- 27:10they have to, there's no room for Go or anything like that.
- 27:14So it's just a basically, just a tube with fuel, like a fuel
- 27:17tube, and there's a lot of testing has to happen with that.
- 27:19They need to be able to move that fuel and space, there's no
- 27:22gravity in this thing in orbit. So I have to figure out a whole
- 27:25bunch of physics there to get this fuel to move in the right
- 27:28way. And empty itself.
- 27:30So essentially, they're going to have when they refuel in orbit,
- 27:33they'll need. I think it was 10 launches to
- 27:36refuel that spacecraft in orbit after after that spacecraft
- 27:40launches and pushes itself into orbit, It'll have basically one
- 27:44tenth of fuel that the rocket needs to get to the moon or the
- 27:47space, the other Starship that comes will need to get to the
- 27:50moon. It's a lot of launches.
- 27:54Yeah, if you think of what Gwen was saying they have to do, they
- 27:58have to do what 100 or 200 launches in order to make a year
- 28:03to have a crewed flight. Are they taught, is she talking
- 28:06about 100 fuel tanker, launches or Depot launches Starship crew
- 28:12launches? Because these, the booster could
- 28:14launch a hundred times be completely fine with the
- 28:17tankers, but if they only do a few crew launch, it will crew
- 28:20capsule launches every year like 5 or 10.
- 28:23Seems ridiculous like just a few 5 or 10 or 20 years.
- 28:27Yeah, that is ridiculous. Yeah, I think getting two orbits
- 28:31easy, I think SpaceX has done that many times and you don't
- 28:34really proving anything putting a tanker into orbit.
- 28:36I don't think we're as you are definitely proving something to
- 28:40land this vehicle again and be consistent is where it's landing
- 28:43and catch it with this Tower as they want to do.
- 28:46So I think that those are the hundred launch of.
- 28:49They want to do it. When wants to do before this
- 28:51thing carries People. They want to make sure that this
- 28:54thing can get back down to the ground and land safely, not
- 28:58land. Get caught safely, which is
- 29:01still ridiculous. Yeah, we'll have to see it.
- 29:03You have to see it in action because if all we've seen from
- 29:05this Landing vehicle, is that it landed, once it wasn't even a
- 29:09good Landing, you know, smg15 landed once actually, one of the
- 29:13other ones land in the next bloated, but what you don't want
- 29:16it either. But we understand that they
- 29:19don't want to, they don't want to land it.
- 29:21They want to prove that they can land it because are not going to
- 29:23land that they're going to catch it but you still have to prove.
- 29:25You can catch it. And you still have to prove that
- 29:28the rocket can be accurate enough in its Landing to be, and
- 29:31I think that's got to be done 100 times.
- 29:34I certainly wouldn't get at before they prove that yeah,
- 29:37that's weird too. So while we're having this
- 29:40conversation and I thought about this a lot over the last two
- 29:43weeks of how they're going to like, just the mindset shift
- 29:48from everybody in a spaceflight industry of.
- 29:50Oh yeah, we're just going to drop a capsule into the ocean
- 29:53and have some parachutes and stuff to oh no.
- 29:55We're going to do like this kick turn move in that hover.
- 29:58You over these arms. And then it's going to be fine.
- 30:03Like you just going to float down and you're going to land
- 30:05on. These arms are going to move you
- 30:07to the Side Lower. You down.
- 30:09Just a little bump of giant. Yeah.
- 30:11Just a little quick. What was it?
- 30:13Five to ten G's or something like that?
- 30:14I think somebody did the math. It was some decent amount of
- 30:17cheese. Yeah.
- 30:18For the flip move but it just blows my mind to think that
- 30:21they're going to be doing a hundred of those in probably not
- 30:27the towers, probably not going to survive every single one of
- 30:30those. Out of the beginning?
- 30:33No, yeah. I'm assuming they're going to do
- 30:3520 or 30 of these flights with hover Landings in the ocean, or
- 30:40on some sort of Mark in the ocean somewhere, or in the been
- 30:43the Gulf of Mexico or something. I can see them doing mock UPS as
- 30:47well. They've got a landing pad here
- 30:48in Texas, there in Texas, I can see them doing a mock up, sort
- 30:52of a very skeleton frame system, to a mat over the launch mode,
- 30:58Over The Landing Pad where they can just say, okay, yep.
- 31:01You are within five feet of our Mark or we missed it by 20 feet
- 31:05or whatever before they even get close to the Tower.
- 31:09Yeah, there's a possibility to. Yeah.
- 31:11They inch closer and closer. I think they have to worry about
- 31:14if they're starting to land at starting to catch.
- 31:17I should say at taxes is the environmental stuff in once they
- 31:23if they mess up any of the environmental stuff the FAA
- 31:26might come after them or the the environmental groups and stuff
- 31:30and that may hold them up and four years possibly in court
- 31:34trying to figure that stuff out. They must have some of that
- 31:36stuff and I think they're going to figure it out.
- 31:38Out. Yeah, they must have some of
- 31:41that stuff worked out by. Now, we've been sitting on this
- 31:45sort of environmental approval for a long time.
- 31:47They must have, it's not Justice.
- 31:49Is for the next launch. This must be worked out through
- 31:52for all lunches. Here are the parameters.
- 31:54You need to work within and what you need protect.
- 31:56And I think beyond that you're going to be find some kind.
- 32:02Yeah, yeah, and if they continue to do it like that was, that's
- 32:05where I was going to go with that as if they continue to do
- 32:08it. If they do it once.
- 32:09They're like, okay, let's we understand like this part of the
- 32:11prototyping and part of the landing system, we get it.
- 32:15But if they continually do it, if they do it.
- 32:17You know, five times in the haven't gotten anywhere with it
- 32:21and there's shrapnel everywhere and something, the environment
- 32:25gets damaged, some species down there, get damaged, then they
- 32:28might have to do another call back to that.
- 32:30But I think they're going to be okay with it.
- 32:32I think they'll take a very easily because Gwen knows the
- 32:36billions of dollars. That NASA spends on Starship
- 32:38program for the hls. She knows that money is
- 32:41important and she knows that getting this right is the most
- 32:45important thing for human space, flight and space flight in
- 32:48general, pretty much ever I think.
- 32:50Yeah, I think absolutely is the most one of the most important
- 32:53Rockets of all time. So I think they're going to take
- 32:57their time with it and get all those ducks in a row so to speak
- 33:00before they do. First, very sort of test
- 33:03Landings at the site, but once they figure that out, man, it's
- 33:07going to be crazy and we're going to see 100 flights a year.
- 33:10Just catch every other day, almost every other day if they
- 33:15300 365 days in a year it'll be every 3-4 days that they do a
- 33:19flight. They might even do a couple
- 33:20flights per day. Pretty crazy, pretty crazy.
- 33:23Can't wait to see it. It's a dress.
- 33:25I'm watching NASA space. Flights live view right now.
- 33:28There are six lifts underneath the The laundromat right now
- 33:32that I can see. So they've got a lot of people
- 33:36that yarder. Okay, and I know that you're
- 33:40there working on the mountain out the yeah, Brewster at the
- 33:43engines, one of them might be worth looking at the engines,
- 33:46but the restaurant on the mountain.
- 33:49Okay, six lips. Wow, idiots.
- 33:51One of those lifts probably carries two three people because
- 33:54you usually have to have a buddy system for sure.
- 33:55I've seen people walking around as well on top, so there's
- 33:58definitely more going on than that but it's just interesting
- 34:01to see. How much Works going on?
- 34:04It was only a yeah. It's only a few days ago what
- 34:07four days ago since the static fire.
- 34:09So, inspections were happening. Probably the day after they were
- 34:14gathering data and now they're taking that data and putting it
- 34:18into action. What broke what didn't break?
- 34:20What are we see? What's a liability here?
- 34:23What can we fix? Will keep a.
- 34:24We'll have to keep an eye on that pipe that you saw earlier
- 34:27see if they replace that or yeah.
- 34:29See if they make some changes to it because yeah, it looks bro.
- 34:33Kin to me if it looks. Right.
- 34:36Looks pretty blown out. Yeah, something happened to it.
- 34:40Yeah, so in the next exciting times.
- 34:42Yeah next few days, ship 25, maybe something but ship 26,
- 34:47more than likely doing a cryo or pressure test but we'll see what
- 34:50happens down at the pad. If the pad is more important
- 34:53than the ships, then they'll definitely continue working on
- 34:56the pad then ship 26, and then push these off probably till
- 35:00next week because there's no other road closures this week.
- 35:03It Yeah, I think you've hit the nail on the head there that
- 35:05they're putting their resources into the launch Mount right now.
- 35:10And I'll get back to it. There's no Russian 26.
- 35:12We get it. Rid of 24 and 25 before that's a
- 35:14problem. Yeah, exactly.
- 35:17All right think that's pretty. I think we covered pretty much
