- 0:06these beings wherever you are that actually want to help you make these
- 0:10microadjustments, help you align to your path again.
- 0:24Hello and welcome back to Remember Why You're Here,
- 0:27a podcast for seekers and sensitives where you can relax, receive,
- 0:31reconnect to yourself, and remember the most important thing of all,
- 0:35why you're here. I'm Asia Suler, author, Earth Intuitive,
- 0:40teacher. And in this episode today,
- 0:44I want to talk about one of my favorite and most prolific medicines on the whole
- 0:48planet. And that medicine is stones.
- 0:53So my journey into healing really began in a lot
- 0:58of ways with the plants,
- 0:59but at the same time in my late teens,
- 1:03early 20s that I was falling in love with the plants,
- 1:06I was also falling in love with stones.
- 1:09At the time I just was tickled to find a beautiful stone,
- 1:14to lay my body on giant boulders in the woods,
- 1:17to just be with the mineral realm. I did not know that stone
- 1:22medicine is actually a really ancient form of medicine.
- 1:27So stone medicine,
- 1:29the concept of stone medicine arises directly out of this bedrock belief of
- 1:33humanity that we call animism,
- 1:35this idea that everything on the planet is alive and animated by its own
- 1:39consciousness, its own sentience, and its own medicine.
- 1:44That's why I say everything is medicine and so are you because we carry medicine
- 1:48as well.
- 1:49And stones are some of the most ancient medicine beings on the
- 1:54planet. If you think about it,
- 1:56stones reach all the way back to the formation of our planet.
- 2:00They are record keepers.
- 2:02They remember millions of years of history.
- 2:07And we know that stone medicine has actually been used for healing in many
- 2:10different cultures throughout time from ancient China and Egypt to the Greeks
- 2:14and the Celts all the way to the Roman and Central American empires and
- 2:18indigenous societies throughout Australia and North America. Stone medicine
- 2:23even stretches beyond homo sapiens in humanity itself.
- 2:27We know that we have found quartz crystals that were intentionally
- 2:32gathered all the way back to the ancestors that
- 2:36predate homo sapiens all the way back to the lower paleolithic.
- 2:41So we have been working with and drawn to stones for a long,
- 2:45long time.
- 2:47Stones and crystals are mentioned in many ancient religious and medical texts,
- 2:51including the Bible, the Hindu Vedas, the Quran,
- 2:55and the divine farmers from China.
- 2:57The oldest known written reference to stone medicine comes from hieroglyphic
- 3:00papyrus dating back to 2000 BC. In Chinese medicine in particular,
- 3:06stones are considered to be able to work on the deepest level of
- 3:11our being.
- 3:12So this level of our being that's called the Yuan that is characterized
- 3:17by our unconscious, our dreams.
- 3:20This is the place where symbols and instinct and divination lives.
- 3:23It's where ancestral patterns are. And this is really where our soul growth
- 3:27emanates. So the yuan level will bring us into the deep, deep.
- 3:32It will bring us into past lives, karmic imbalances,
- 3:35the divine blueprint of our lifetime, and the fulfillment of our destiny.
- 3:40And so from a Chinese medicine's perspective, stones work, they go that deep.
- 3:44And it's because if you think about this, stone medicine is ancient. It is deep.
- 3:49Stones reside the deepest places in the earth. They are permanent.
- 3:54They work on things that feel like they're fixed inside of us,
- 3:57that feel as solid as stone. They can go there.
- 4:01They can help us slowly orient to this
- 4:06place of spirit within us and help us create alchemy in our lives.
- 4:11I mean, truly stones are created by alchemical processes on the earth.
- 4:15And so stone medicine is something I love to turn to when I'm really working
- 4:21on subtle emotional spiritual levels. And
- 4:26I've been thinking a lot about stone medicine recently as we are in this month
- 4:30right now of what I talked about in the intuitive reading as this month of micro
- 4:35adjustments so that we can really get ourselves aligned
- 4:40with our paths and the runway that is bringing us through the rest of this year
- 4:45really feels like there's an opportunity this month to just click in and
- 4:50align a little bit more with what our destiny really is.
- 4:54And so I've been working with stones a lot in my
- 4:59meditations and it just felt like the right time to revisit
- 5:04this recording from several years ago about how to work with local stones.
- 5:09So we've got a little bit of a bedrock here,
- 5:12a basis of understanding why stone medicine is actually so
- 5:17deep,
- 5:18so ancient and so effective at working on the deep layers of our being. And
- 5:23now I want to talk about how to actually work with the stones that are around
- 5:27you right now because oftentimes when we start getting into
- 5:32the realm of stone medicine in the stone world,
- 5:34we start feeling like we need to get the fanciest crystals from further away,
- 5:38the biggest crystals, whatever it is.
- 5:40But actually so much medicine exists in the stones
- 5:45that already exist around you wherever you live,
- 5:48that are already there in your environment and the landscapes that you are
- 5:52moving through.
- 5:53And this feels really in alignment too with our reading for this month as the
- 5:57plant that came in through the cardpool this month was plantain.
- 6:00So plantain is ubiquitous. It's everywhere.
- 6:03It's just one of those plants you can find really in so many
- 6:07ecologies and climates.
- 6:10And the reminder for this month with the intuitive reading was that the medicine
- 6:14is everywhere, that we have these guardians of our souls,
- 6:18these local medicines,
- 6:20these beings wherever you are that actually want to help you make these
- 6:24microadjustments,
- 6:25help you align to your path again. So the same is true for the
- 6:30stones.
- 6:30And I wanted to revisit this recording so you know how to work with local
- 6:35stones in your environment as you continue to make these micro
- 6:40shifts and adjustments as you're in the thick of it this month and really
- 6:45aligning yourself naturally with the path that wants to bring you
- 6:50forward in life. So with that,
- 6:52let's go ahead and tune into three ways to work with local stones.
- 6:59Stone medicine is ancient and powerful.
- 7:02In the tradition of Chinese stone medicine that I was trained in,
- 7:05stones are thought to work on the deepest level of our being.
- 7:09Stones work on emotional, spiritual,
- 7:13and soulful levels of healing.
- 7:15So if you want to experience healing on the deepest level of yourself,
- 7:20stones are the medicine to turn to.
- 7:23Local medicine is powerful.
- 7:26When I was in herbal school and in my training,
- 7:29one of the things that I learned is that working with local medicine is actually
- 7:33so much more potent than working with medicine that you import from elsewhere.
- 7:38And the same is true for stones.
- 7:40Local medicine creates a direct relationship between you and that medicine,
- 7:45which makes the healing a thousand times more potent.
- 7:49So even though it may seem like the fancy crystals in the crystal shop are more
- 7:54exciting to work with,
- 7:55the reality is that even the humble stones around your home carry really
- 8:00profound medicine. And the truth is local stones want to work
- 8:05with you.
- 8:06Humans and stones have a very ancient relationship so I promise you the stones
- 8:11in the landscape where you live are already calling out to you.
- 8:15So the first tip is to do research to find out what stones are local to
- 8:20your area, what minerals figure prominently.
- 8:23You can do geological research, you can look up local field guides,
- 8:27but you're going to be surprised by how many minerals and how many
- 8:32different types of stones are going to be available in your local environment.
- 8:37Things like quartz or feldspar,
- 8:39agate or mica are very common in the world.
- 8:43I have done a lot of rock hounding out in the world and I've been able to gather
- 8:47all kinds of stones just from walking around certain environments.
- 8:51Stones like garnets, cornelian, serpentine,
- 8:56aquamarine, clear quartz, pyrite,
- 8:59tourmaline. So get your hands on a local guide so you can at least know what to
- 9:04look for and really do some research to figure out how does this mineral appear?
- 9:09Does it also appear in the matrix of other stones?
- 9:12And this can help you start to recognize that mineral when it appears in the
- 9:16stones around you. If you live near a beach,
- 9:20you can look up to find out what minerals the beach is made of.
- 9:24One of the most common stones that you find in sand is quartz.
- 9:28Quartz is everywhere on this earth and quartz is such a powerful and versatile
- 9:33stone to be working with.
- 9:35If you want to go rock hounding and find some local stones,
- 9:38some of the best times to do it are after a rain and to go in places where the
- 9:43water has flown. So riverbanks, storm runoff,
- 9:48anywhere where water has flowed and new earth has been exposed is a great place
- 9:52to find these stones. Now all of this said,
- 9:56even if you never learn the name of any minerals or stones in your environment,
- 10:00you can still work with stones.
- 10:03There are still stones there that want to work with you and you don't need to
- 10:06know what their common name is.
- 10:08All you need to know is that you're being called to be with them.
- 10:11So how do you work with these local stones? Well,
- 10:14one of the first things I always recommend to folks is just to have it on their
- 10:18body. So keep it in your pocket, put it under your pillow at night.
- 10:22The more you are in physical relationship to the stone,
- 10:26the more that medicine will be available to you.
- 10:29You can also place that stone on an altar,
- 10:32perhaps a special consecrated place in your home so that every time you see that
- 10:37stone,
- 10:37you're reminded of the work that you're doing with that stone and your local
- 10:41landscape. If you've been able to identify the stone and the minerals that are
- 10:46within it and you know that those minerals are safe for ingestion,
- 10:50you can also make a stone elixir.
- 10:52And this is done by putting that stone in water overnight and drinking that
- 10:56water first thing in the morning.
- 10:58If you're not absolutely sure that that stone is safe for ingestion,
- 11:03then you can always make an energetic elixir by simply placing that stone
- 11:07nearby, a cup of water, perhaps on your altar or on your bedside table,
- 11:12and then just drinking that water first thing in the morning.
- 11:16So the next tip is to work with a really unexpected source of stone that is
- 11:20probably right around you right now, and that's gravel.
- 11:25So often we disregard gravel, right?
- 11:28It crunches underfoot and we don't even think about it,
- 11:30but gravel is often taken from the heart of mountains. So this gravel,
- 11:34this stone is sacred.
- 11:36It's coming from the heart of the earth and it's around you everywhere.
- 11:41And I have found working with gravel can really bring a lot of healing to the
- 11:46planet because a lot of these practices of getting gravel is highly
- 11:50extractive and intrusive.
- 11:52And so working with gravel in a reparative process creates so
- 11:57much healing for yourself and for the world.
- 12:01You also might notice that this gravel has different minerals in it.
- 12:04I often find where I live that the gravel contains quartz and mica.
- 12:08So there's a lot of specialness to this gravel.
- 12:11And I often find that the gravel is so happy when we are working with it,
- 12:16recognizing it and honoring it for its medicine.
- 12:19Children also love being able to rock hound in the gravel.
- 12:23So if you learn about some minerals that might be in the gravel nearby you,
- 12:28you can go out with your children and see what you can find. You'll notice that
- 12:33kids don't draw boundaries between this is a special stone and this is an
- 12:37unspecial stone.
- 12:39Kids love all stones and they get really intrigued to pick through the gravel in
- 12:44your driveway and find special treasures.
- 12:46So your kids will also show you that the medicine is all around you.
- 12:51The third practice is to find a gatekeeper stone.
- 12:55So a gatekeeper stone is a prominent stone in your environment.
- 12:59It could be a stone that was naturally occurring.
- 13:02It could also be a stone that was imported or brought from elsewhere,
- 13:05but see if you can find a stone in your local environment that seems to emanate
- 13:10power and energy.
- 13:12These gatekeeper stones are powerful places to leave offerings and to ask to
- 13:17be in communication with the unseen world.
- 13:20Often that gatekeeper stone literally works as a gatekeeper.
- 13:24And so if you can approach that stone with honor and respect,
- 13:27often it will open up a line of communication and dialogue with the wider world
- 13:32and the landscape as a whole. I have a gatekeeper stone on the land where I live
- 13:37and I often call in that stone and connect to that stone before meditation,
- 13:42journey work, or channeling. And I find it really helps not only ground me,
- 13:47but open that field of perception to the unseen world.
- 13:50Because as I said at the beginning of this video,
- 13:52stones have the ability to take us to the soul level.
- 13:56And so when we work with stones,
- 13:58we are inviting healing on this level of soul and spirit.
- 14:06If you do any of these practices, if you end up connecting with a local stone,
- 14:10I would love to hear about it. You could head over to my Substack.
- 14:14Remember Why You Are Here.
- 14:16I've been loving having conversations over there around these podcast episodes.
- 14:20It's been so rich. You can also leave me a voice message over at
- 14:25asiasuler.com/remember.
- 14:28I really get the feeling this month that all the guardians,
- 14:33all the guides are showing up now,
- 14:36making themselves known in a stronger way so that we can really
- 14:41orient to the openings that are possible for us here,
- 14:44that we can stitch more of our soul to
- 14:49our existence here, to our bodies,
- 14:52that we can bring in that guidance from that wider place
- 14:57so we can really take the next steps in our life to open more
- 15:02fully to who we are,
- 15:03to open more fully to our gifts here on this planet. So thank you so
- 15:08much for being a part of this incredible ecosystem
- 15:13here on the podcast and on the Substack.
- 15:16It really just feels like we are in this collective of medicine and I'm
- 15:21so grateful for the medicine that you are on this planet.
- 15:25I'm so grateful for all the guides that are showing up for us right now,
- 15:29including all of the guidance we've received through our dreams this month.
- 15:33That's why I created the Dream Remembrance Recipe over on the Substack.
- 15:36If you haven't checked that out yet,
- 15:39you can check that out there and tune into the dreams that are here to guide you
- 15:43because I have absolutely have stones. Come talk to me in my dreams as well.
- 15:48Our dreams are one of the most direct lines we have into that Yuan level,
- 15:53that place where we can access our soul's wisdom and healing. So thank you
- 15:57for all the ways in which you are showing up in life. And may these guardians,
- 16:02may these guides, may these aha moments,
- 16:05readjustments and perspectives really help you remember that most important
- 16:10thing of all why you're here.
