- 0:11Speaker 1: do with your foundation, GINO for the kids and boy,
- 0:15Speaker 1: they're ready to go here. Thank you all for coming

- 0:20Speaker 1: women's college basketball, the state of the Huskies getting ready
- 0:24Speaker 1: for could be an interesting week with Villanova and Notre
- 0:27Speaker 1: Dame coming to town. At Gamble where you haven't been
- 0:29Speaker 1: over a month, it's always nice when you're back on campus.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And I can just say this from the last two
- 0:34Speaker 1: years that you've played your first game at home in
- 0:37Speaker 1: the second semester, it usually coincides with.
- 0:40Speaker 2: The kids coming back on campus.
- 0:42Speaker 1: They've been weekend games the last two years, and your
- 0:45Speaker 1: kids have been chopping at the bit to get back
- 0:47Speaker 1: to Gamble, and whoever they've played, they've absolutely smoked De
- 0:50Speaker 1: Paul two years ago, seat and all last season. I
- 0:53Speaker 1: don't know what we'll get tomorrow, but I would imagine
- 0:58Speaker 1: that the kids are excited to be able to go
- 0:59Speaker 1: back on campus and play after being on the road
- 1:02Speaker 1: or playing at Hartford They're just something different about gamble.
- 1:07Speaker 3: And that's the show for tonight. Thanks Bob. Yeah, boisterous, crowded.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Are the drinks free? Yeah, they're not for me. Am
- 1:20Speaker 3: I free tonight. I usually have to pay. It's your place,
- 1:25Speaker 3: tell me about it. Yeah, thanks for coming first of all,
- 1:30Speaker 3: and I'm really great to have everybody here. And you know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: the geno for the Kids Foundation. We raise a lot
- 1:41Speaker 3: of money for Connecticut children and we have a lot
- 1:44Speaker 3: of great people that work very hard at it, put
- 1:49Speaker 3: a lot of time in throughout the year. It's more
- 1:51Speaker 3: than just a golf tournament that we have in Hartford
- 1:53Speaker 3: at Hartford Golf Club every June the week of the Travelers.
- 2:00Speaker 3: There are a lot of events throughout the whole year. So,
- 2:03Speaker 3: you know, any of you people listening out there in
- 2:05Speaker 3: radio land, if you're interested in getting involved and how
- 2:11Speaker 3: we how we do things for the foundation throughout the year,
- 2:16Speaker 3: you can contact us. I'm sure you can find it
- 2:20Speaker 3: pretty easily online. You can find anything online right now,
- 2:25Speaker 3: I guess except somebody tells the truth. I guess I
- 2:29Speaker 3: don't know.
- 2:30Speaker 2: She know. For the Kids dot Org, there your website, there.
- 2:32Speaker 3: You go, g you know, for the Kids dot org
- 2:36Speaker 3: and yeah, Tomorrow's don't know, the game is gonna suck.
- 2:41Speaker 2: What is that?
- 2:42Speaker 3: Because they are they're really good. Number one, they are
- 2:47Speaker 3: shooting the ball great right about now. Number two, they
- 2:54Speaker 3: they have a really good guard who she's a sophomore.
- 2:58Speaker 3: And I would say, and I don't you know whether
- 3:02Speaker 3: anybody out there from the other schools is listening or not.
- 3:05Speaker 3: If we weren't in the league, I think Vollanova's point
- 3:08Speaker 3: guard would probably be the player of the year in
- 3:10Speaker 3: the league. Jasmine Bosco. Yeah, I mean she's really good.
- 3:14Speaker 3: She runs their whole team. She's shooting the ball great,
- 3:17Speaker 3: you know, and they make they make defending they make
- 3:23Speaker 3: you defending them very very difficult. They run around like
- 3:27Speaker 3: you know, like Creyton does, all over the place, and
- 3:32Speaker 3: so defensively, we're going to have to be really really
- 3:34Speaker 3: good tomorrow, and you know, we're gonna have to play well,
- 3:39Speaker 3: which is good because I think we, you know, we
- 3:43Speaker 3: sometimes I think the wins come a little bit too
- 3:46Speaker 3: easy at times. And you know, tomorrow, I mean, last
- 3:52Speaker 3: year we played them here, we scored one hundred points.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I have no idea, no one ever scores one hundred
- 3:56Speaker 3: points against Villanova, But we just played so well and
- 3:59Speaker 3: shot the ball so great, So tomorrow, you know, we'll see.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, they're a bit of a younger team. They averaged
- 4:06Speaker 2: nine to threes per game.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They've hit double digits eleven times, and threes your team's
- 4:10Speaker 1: done it eight times. Back to Sunday for a minute.
- 4:13Speaker 1: It was an interesting start. Creton had a lot of success,
- 4:18Speaker 1: like your teams have, spreading the floor going five out,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and they had a lot of backdoor cuts.
- 4:24Speaker 2: In the first quarter.
- 4:26Speaker 1: But one thing that stood out being courtsided next to
- 4:29Speaker 1: you and even you know, Debbie brought this up too defensively.
- 4:32Speaker 1: They would pick up the dribble on the perimeter and
- 4:35Speaker 1: your defender, whoever it would be, would lay off a
- 4:37Speaker 1: little bit where you wanted them to get up close
- 4:40Speaker 1: and make things difficult. Was that a message during the
- 4:45Speaker 1: first media timeout or even going into the second quarter,
- 4:48Speaker 1: to you know, make it more of a point because
- 4:50Speaker 1: the second quarter was certainly vastly different. You forced them
- 4:53Speaker 1: over thirteen times alone, which I think was their average
- 4:56Speaker 1: or just close to their average per game, and then
- 4:59Speaker 1: you went off and scored thirty three points.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Well, I mean there are times during the course of
- 5:13Speaker 3: a game when I have trouble identifying what I'm saying
- 5:21Speaker 3: as like, what I'm saying is what I'm saying, I
- 5:26Speaker 3: want you to do, okay, And sometimes it's interpreted as
- 5:32Speaker 3: coaches making a suggestion that we should try this. All right,
- 5:38Speaker 3: So when you watch us play and we start and
- 5:40Speaker 3: we're all over people and things are flying and over that,
- 5:43Speaker 3: they go, oh, look at that team, and then when
- 5:45Speaker 3: they don't, it's like, well, coach must have told them
- 5:48Speaker 3: to lay off of those guys.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Now.
- 5:50Speaker 3: The message is the same all the time. It's just
- 5:52Speaker 3: that it's hard for players to, for forty minutes every night,
- 5:58Speaker 3: every game, recreate the absolute perfect scenario. It's just not
- 6:04Speaker 3: it's just not. It's just not possible. So, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 3: you you have TV timeouts, you come out, you put
- 6:14Speaker 3: something different in, you know, you do something different defensively,
- 6:18Speaker 3: and then you make more shots and then everybody gets
- 6:21Speaker 3: happy and then we start playing, you know. And but
- 6:25Speaker 3: I think what what Creighton did which was interesting was they.
- 6:31Speaker 2: They were they were.
- 6:34Speaker 3: They wanted to shoot a lot of threes, and they're
- 6:36Speaker 3: a good three point shooting team, but they were they were,
- 6:41Speaker 3: they were deep, and they came like rushed.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I noticed that.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Okay, and then we were throwing the ball away. So
- 6:53Speaker 3: sometimes my teams have their own practice when I'm not there,
- 6:56Speaker 3: so and they tried different offenses and stuff, and so
- 6:59Speaker 3: when I sometimes and I watch them play, I go,
- 7:01Speaker 3: I've never seen that before. That's what it looks like
- 7:06Speaker 3: to me.
- 7:08Speaker 2: It does, Okay. Sarah Strong had a solid game seven
- 7:12Speaker 2: to ten.
- 7:13Speaker 1: You talked about the efficiency double double number five led
- 7:16Speaker 1: the team and assists with Kaylee Hako with six had
- 7:19Speaker 1: five more steals. Where have you seen her game really
- 7:23Speaker 1: jump from say, at the start of the season to now.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Have you seen an improvement in an area or two
- 7:28Speaker 1: that maybe you didn't see last year?
- 7:33Speaker 3: I don't know. I think sophomore years are usually I
- 7:39Speaker 3: don't know that sophomore years always there have been. There
- 7:43Speaker 3: have been some that go from you know, she had
- 7:46Speaker 3: a great freshman year, sure, okay, So I don't know
- 7:49Speaker 3: that they go from great freshman year to an unbelievable
- 7:53Speaker 3: sophomore year. Sometimes it just kind of incrementally gets a
- 7:57Speaker 3: little bit better, you know. And when we started season,
- 8:00Speaker 3: I mean when did we play Ohio State third game?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Fourth games like that? Yeah? Yeah?
- 8:05Speaker 3: What she had thirty points twenty How many rebounds she
- 8:09Speaker 3: had and would probably played one of the best games
- 8:13Speaker 3: you know, we've ever seen at the Excel Center.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, the twenty rebounds was Michigan the DA and.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Then she had twenty rebounds against Michigan. So she's been
- 8:20Speaker 3: playing at a pretty high level. And her three point
- 8:26Speaker 3: shots kind of been off and on for about three
- 8:30Speaker 3: or four games. It was on. She didn't make any
- 8:32Speaker 3: against Creaton. Yeah. Yeah, but she's shooting the ball better
- 8:36Speaker 3: in practice, and we're putting her more different, more different places.
- 8:42Speaker 3: My English teacher would be upset with that, more different places.
- 8:45Speaker 3: We're putting her in different spots on the court to
- 8:51Speaker 3: take advantage of, you know, all the things that she
- 8:54Speaker 3: can do and not have her be in the same
- 8:58Speaker 3: spot all the time. And then we're trying to get
- 9:01Speaker 3: you know, her the ball in places where they can't
- 9:05Speaker 3: guard her. So if you notice when we came out
- 9:07Speaker 3: against Creighton after we didn't score, you know, we said
- 9:12Speaker 3: there's one way we won't throw the ball away. We'd
- 9:14Speaker 3: just come down throw it to Sarah, and she scored
- 9:16Speaker 3: the next couple of buckets and you know, everybody's you know,
- 9:20Speaker 3: everybody's good now. So yeah, right now, you know, The
- 9:24Speaker 3: challenge is just finding ways for her to touch the
- 9:27Speaker 3: ball and then play off of that.
- 9:29Speaker 1: See what happens all right, More with Gino in a minute.
- 9:32Speaker 1: This is you kind of women's basketball coaches show on Learfield.
- 9:34Speaker 1: We're live at Cafe or in Manchester. Stay with us.
