- 0:00Hello. I watched an empire fall in real time.
- 0:04But stuff still happened. So what's up? It's
- 0:08cold outside. It's icy. At least around me. It's
- 0:11also very icy in Minnesota. Still. The snow.
- 0:14The snow kind of ice. And the - fascist kind
- 0:17too. I want to start off today by highlighting
- 0:19that Minnesota really hasn't changed a whole
- 0:22lot, despite talk about drawing down the forces
- 0:26there. In Minneapolis, Rene Nicole Goode and
- 0:28Alex Pretti were both gunned down by ICE agents,
- 0:31who were then protected by the federal government,
- 0:34as the citizens who were killed in the streets
- 0:36were called terrorists. This was a bit of a difficult
- 0:39thing for the White House to explain, and so
- 0:43they're like, well, we got to do something. besides
- 0:46call our own citizens terrorists after we get
- 0:48them murdered. So what they did, presumably to
- 0:50not have to keep dealing with this, maybe, was
- 0:53to get rid of Greg Bovino. Bovina? I've never
- 0:56looked up how to pronounce his name because I
- 0:58don't care. We're gonna call him Bovi. Greg Bovine.
- 1:02Greg Bovino or whatever. He's the fashy looking
- 1:05dude who like explicitly tries to dress like
- 1:09a Nazi. He's been the head boy of ICE for a little
- 1:12bit now going out in the field. Doing all the
- 1:14flashy stuff and hyping them up talking about
- 1:16how this is this is our town ice agents Anyway,
- 1:25they pulled him out of Minneapolis and replaced
- 1:27him with Tom Holman who is the border czar anyway,
- 1:30Tom Holman He looks like he's melting all the
- 1:34time and also I'm pretty sure his soul already
- 1:37has so he comes in and he talks about drawing
- 1:40down the troops that are currently there by 700
- 1:43That entire statement could be analyzed for years.
- 1:46Drawing down the personnel and talking about
- 1:48it like it's a war zone is fucking crazy, my
- 1:52guy. And they're pulling out 700 people leaving
- 1:552 ,000 agents, which is more than twice the total
- 1:59employee count of the Minneapolis Police Department.
- 2:02Tom Homan went on to refer to Minneapolis as
- 2:05a theater. You ever heard of the term, like,
- 2:08the Pacific Theater? You know, like, that's a
- 2:11war thing. It's a way to refer to, like, a war
- 2:14front. This is an American city. A cold one.
- 2:19But it's an American city, not a fucking war
- 2:22front. Or at least it wasn't supposed to be a
- 2:24war front. But it turns out that the people in
- 2:26Minneapolis are still, to this day, hiding people
- 2:30from feds and trying to not get stopped in the
- 2:33street by a masked armed guy who's like, show
- 2:37me your papers. It was just a couple of weeks
- 2:38ago that I talked about a contact that I have
- 2:41on the ground in Minneapolis who was telling
- 2:43me about someone they knew who was being hidden.
- 2:46I have since received a text message saying they
- 2:48took her. Every single day people in Minneapolis
- 2:51are on the ground trying to help, trying to push
- 2:54back, and making this a huge pain for the administration.
- 2:58These people are working day and night to make
- 3:02it so that this administration doesn't get to
- 3:03get away with this bullshit. We are all very
- 3:06aware of it because of how strong that local
- 3:10community has been, and they've been winning.
- 3:12It is horrendous that multiple people have had
- 3:14to die for this. And we should be holding the
- 3:18administration accountable for that. But this
- 3:20would not be the first time by a long shot that
- 3:24American citizens died by gunfire at the hands
- 3:27of government agents on U .S. soil. for standing
- 3:31up for what was obviously right. Now, of course,
- 3:33there's a lot of ICE operations going on outside
- 3:35of Minneapolis, too, and we are also getting
- 3:38reports now of outbreaks of various diseases
- 3:41in ICE concentration camps. These outbreaks include
- 3:44tuberculosis, measles, and COVID -19 in places
- 3:48that have children. Those classic detention centers
- 3:51for children that we have. On the topic of children
- 3:54that our government abducts, by the end of Biden's
- 3:57presidency, we were taking 25 children a day,
- 4:00give or take, into ICE custody. It is now at
- 4:03about 170 children a day being rounded up, thrown
- 4:08into camps somewhere that, according to the nurses
- 4:12who have been trying to offer health care at
- 4:14these camps, they are overpacked by three times
- 4:18capacity. People have reported that the ICE agents
- 4:20are more interested in deporting people than
- 4:22ensuring that they actually are healthy and have
- 4:25access to life -saving medication or anything
- 4:27like that. There are so many of them that health
- 4:29screenings are happening in groups. Public group
- 4:34health screening. But again, it's not like this
- 4:36is happening unimpeded. And like, the system
- 4:39is strained right now. A whole bunch of attorneys
- 4:42in the Minneapolis area are quitting because
- 4:45they're like, fuck this. I either don't want
- 4:47to do this because this is fascist as hell or
- 4:50this is making my life impossible. Here's a quote
- 4:53from an attorney who was at her breaking point
- 4:57in court to the judge. She says, quote, The system
- 5:02sucks. This job sucks. I wish you would hold
- 5:05me in contempt so that I could get 24 hours of
- 5:08sleep. I think that about sums it up. They're
- 5:10fucking miserable. But that's okay, we can make
- 5:12them more miserable. We'll get there. Have faith.
- 5:15Hold. If you like what I do, you can help me
- 5:18keep doing it by supporting me. You can head
- 5:20to isupport .dev and there are options for monetary
- 5:23support or just sharing my stuff and other ways
- 5:26to help me keep all this going. So thank you
- 5:28so much for being here. I'm doing this for you,
- 5:30but I can't do it if I can't feed myself, so...
- 5:34Thank you anyone who is interested in supporting,
- 5:38and that's great, let's move on. And now for
- 5:40sports. We go to the sports desk. It's over here.
- 5:45Hi, welcome to the sports desk. I'm the same
- 5:47guy. The Olympics are happening. And the Super
- 5:50Bowl. The Super Bowl is not at the Olympics.
- 5:53That'd be funny. The Winter Olympics of 2026
- 5:55have started in Milan. They are going from the
- 5:576th to the 22nd, and a whole lot of people are
- 6:00gonna do a whole lot of cold stuff. There have
- 6:01already been a handful of medals passed out,
- 6:04just sort of like handed out. I haven't competed
- 6:06yet, so I haven't gotten my medals. But I can
- 6:09say that Japan got a medal for Men's Snowboard
- 6:13Big Air. Now look, I know that Men's Snowboard
- 6:16Big Air... is a really rad sport. I'm not - I'm
- 6:19not dogging on it. It does sound like a bargain
- 6:23bin Nintendo 64 game, but grats on the big air,
- 6:27Men's Snowboard? Of course, we also had the opening
- 6:29ceremony, which was a whole thing, and JD Vance
- 6:31was put up on the Jumbotron, and the entire fucking
- 6:34world booed him. Which is the only reaction,
- 6:37really, to having JD Vance on a Jumbotron. Over
- 6:40stateside, we've got the very big bowl going
- 6:43on. It's when they take all of the superest people
- 6:45that have... a lot of knowledge of the pigskin
- 6:48and the gridiron, and they put them in an arena
- 6:51together with a bad bunny. It is the Seattle
- 6:53Seahawks versus the New England Patriots this
- 6:55time around, so that just goes to prove that
- 6:57the closer you are to the border of Canada, the
- 6:59more frequently you appear in the Super Bowl.
- 7:01That's my thesis, because I don't know a whole
- 7:05lot else about the NFL. The Super Bowl is happening,
- 7:08like, as I'm recording this, so if you're watching
- 7:10it, I hope you're enjoying your buffalo chicken
- 7:12dip. And I'll let you know who won. Here, I'll
- 7:16edit it in right here. The team that won was
- 7:19the Seattle Seahawks. Moving on, I want to acknowledge
- 7:24that the situation in Gaza really hasn't changed.
- 7:27I'm kind of tired of things not changing. I feel
- 7:29like things could change a little bit for the
- 7:31better. Now look, I don't honestly have a whole
- 7:33lot more to say here. I have spent years now
- 7:36saying some rendition of the same thing of Israel
- 7:40has attacked Gaza again. and I don't know why,
- 7:45and they claim Hamas was there, and then they
- 7:49don't really give any evidence, and then they
- 7:51say also, no, we didn't do that, and also it's
- 7:53a ceasefire. All I really have to say is to encourage
- 7:56people to be loud. If there's any semblance of
- 8:00someone suggesting that the conflict, in huge
- 8:03air quotes, between Israel and Hamas has ended,
- 8:06it's just not the case. People are still actively
- 8:08being targeted by heavy artillery while trying
- 8:10to dig their homes. Out of the rubble. That doesn't
- 8:13sound like an end of conflict to me. A very different
- 8:16kind of explosion. A waplosion. The Washington
- 8:19Post just kind of fucking beefed it. Like, holy
- 8:23shit, dude. On February 4th, the Washington Post
- 8:26announced job cuts of 300 people. That's about
- 8:29a third of their staff. Among the things that
- 8:31they cut were their entire sports desk, the entire
- 8:35books desk, their audio and video teams, including
- 8:37some of their podcasts, their culture teams,
- 8:40and their foreign coverage teams. What are they
- 8:42going to report on now? I don't know. They say
- 8:44they're going to focus on like government and
- 8:46security. Here's how it went down though, because
- 8:51this is even crazier. Pretty much with no prior
- 8:53warning, just the editor had to say, hey, you're
- 8:56all are getting your jobs slashed. The CEO isn't
- 9:00here to say that because he's elsewhere. It later
- 9:03came out that the CEO, Will Lewis, was off at
- 9:06a party for the Super Bowl while absolutely cutting
- 9:10his staff to shreds. That didn't sit well with
- 9:13the team. He's since resigned. Because obviously.
- 9:17To drive home how sudden and absurd this was,
- 9:19Lizzie Johnson, a reporter for the Washington
- 9:22Post in Ukraine, posted that she had been laid
- 9:24off by the Washington Post in the middle of a
- 9:26war zone. She had been working out of her car
- 9:29with no power in Ukraine on the war front where
- 9:33Russia has been attacking energy infrastructure.
- 9:35And then she found out that she was laid off
- 9:37in a car in the middle of a war zone. Jeff Bezos
- 9:40bought the Washington Post in 2013. for $250
- 9:43million, which is like, fuck all. This is the
- 9:46paper that exposed Watergate. This paper has
- 9:4976 pooled surprises. It started in the late 1800s.
- 9:54Like, regardless of anyone's current outlook
- 9:56on the media and the news and whatnot, it's wild
- 10:01that Jeff Bezos is so much more interested in
- 10:06lobbying Trump that he'd rather just annihilate
- 10:11the Washington Post. It doesn't sound like he
- 10:13was super happy with how this was all handled,
- 10:15but it's not like he hasn't been doing active
- 10:18harm to the Washington Post reputation for a
- 10:21while now. You'll recall that right before the
- 10:23election last year, he personally stepped in
- 10:26to stop the Washington Post from endorsing Kamala
- 10:28Harris. Now, did that change the election? Probably
- 10:30not. But that's not a thing that you should do
- 10:33if you are a billionaire donor who owns a newspaper.
- 10:37Hey, maybe fewer billionaires owning newspapers,
- 10:40please. Here's a very good quote from a former
- 10:42executive editor of the Washington Post, Martin
- 10:44Barron, quote, If you are Elon Musk, you are
- 10:57not liking Europe. There you go. I helped you
- 11:00out there. Elon Musk has been beefing with the
- 11:03EU and multiple individual states at the same
- 11:07time. Last week, French authorities raided Twitter's
- 11:09headquarters in Paris because of the whole Grok
- 11:12generating non -consensual images of children
- 11:14thing. Quick recap, Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok
- 11:17is baked into Twitter now, and you can ask it
- 11:20to remix images that people have posted, including
- 11:23images of other users, and in some cases, children.
- 11:27People have been using this feature to undress
- 11:29people en masse. Notably, that's bad. Not long
- 11:33ago the EU hit Twitter with a big old find about
- 11:35a whole bunch of other stuff and messing with
- 11:37the blue check marks and shit and Britain's been
- 11:39looking into them for privacy concerns and now
- 11:42France is looking into them for the whole child
- 11:44porn thing. Musk's response to basically all
- 11:46of this is to say that the EU is tyrannical and
- 11:50unfair and being political? Yes. It turns out
- 11:54when you want to operate for profit in a country,
- 11:57you have to adhere to the regulations. I don't
- 11:59think that's gonna get through to Elon. I don't
- 12:01think he has a super great grasp of regulations
- 12:04and adhering to them. Speaking of which, we have
- 12:07some new stuff about Doge. There was a court
- 12:09filing about the whole Doge situation back when
- 12:12Elon Musk was like, I'm gonna be in the government
- 12:14now. And yeah, they did the dumb shit that we
- 12:18were assuming they did. A court filing shows
- 12:20that Doge employees were doing a whole bunch
- 12:22of nefarious shit with social security data that
- 12:25they were not supposed to have access to, including...
- 12:28uploading it to third parties that were not approved,
- 12:30such as CloudFlare. This means an unknown amount
- 12:33of unknown data from the social security database
- 12:36was sent over an unauthorized third party, and
- 12:39we have no idea what it was, where it is, or
- 12:42how much might be retained. Neat! That's not,
- 12:47that's not me, actually. Here is an idea. Elon
- 12:51Musk, but not. Any takers? Lightning round! The
- 12:58Clintons will be testifying in front of Congress
- 12:59over the Jeffrey Epstein stuff. They're pushing
- 13:01to make it a public hearing. It's going to be
- 13:04a disaster. GameStop employees have a new dress
- 13:07code. They gotta wear polos and stuff. I don't
- 13:09know why this made my list of nudes, but it's
- 13:12in there. Okay, here's a more salient gaming
- 13:14thing. Valve has released a statement saying
- 13:16that their upcoming array of new hardware, including
- 13:19the new Steam machine and their new VR headset
- 13:22and stuff, is going to be delayed and possibly
- 13:25more expensive. They chalk this up to essentially
- 13:28the situation with AI right now. If you've tried
- 13:30to buy any hardware parts, it is way too expensive
- 13:34for parts that should not be expensive. So they're
- 13:37basically saying, hey, the market's fucked, we're
- 13:40figuring it out. Today host Savannah Guthrie's
- 13:43mother was abducted, and we don't know where
- 13:46she is, and they've been trying to figure that
- 13:48out. There was a ransom note and everything,
- 13:50and there's just not really any information about
- 13:53what happened. They've apparently been in contact
- 13:55with the abductors. I can't even... I cannot
- 13:58imagine. Don't... abduct people. That's my PSA
- 14:01for today. And finally for today, according to
- 14:03an analysis from the Wall Street Journal, if
- 14:05you take all the spending that AI companies have
- 14:07been doing as a portion of GDP, it rivals the
- 14:10Louisiana Purchase. It's like double the cost
- 14:13of the Interstate Project. Like... that's a lot
- 14:17of money! I am once again... casually requesting.
- 14:22Just... One of those billions. Just a single
- 14:25one. Thank you so much for listening to today's
- 14:27episode of Stuff Keeps Happening. Head to skh
- 14:29.news for sources, bonus content, and a second
- 14:33Louisiana purchase. I'm buying Louisiana back.
- 14:38My name is Endeavorance. We'll talk again soon.
- 14:40Take care and be well.
