- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:14Speaker 1: of Long Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and today we're discussing two Tickets to Paradise from Hallmarks
- 0:22Speaker 1: Summer Nights series, which originally aired on Saturday, June twenty
- 0:27Speaker 1: fifth on the Hallmark Channel. EDI love this podcast. You
- 0:33Speaker 1: can talk Hallmark all day, every day in our private
- 0:37Speaker 1: Facebook group, which is also called Girls Gone Hallmark, which
- 0:41Speaker 1: you can find by searching Girls Gone Hallmark on Facebook
- 0:44Speaker 1: or via the handylink in our show notes, which you
- 0:47Speaker 1: can always find at Megan and Weindy dot com slash podcast.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You can also email us at Megan and Wendy at
- 0:54Speaker 2: gmail dot com anytime. I love the Facebook group. I
- 0:57Speaker 2: was over there yesterday. I ask some questions because this
- 1:02Speaker 2: is just a side note. I was recently on a
- 1:04Speaker 2: flight and they had Hallmark movies to stream, which I've
- 1:07Speaker 2: never seen before. And apparently Delta Airlines and Hallmark Channel
- 1:13Speaker 2: has like this deal. It's been around for like a
- 1:17Speaker 2: year maybe, so they had Hallmark movies on there, but
- 1:20Speaker 2: they only had Christmas movies, which I thought was kind
- 1:23Speaker 2: of funny but maybe the worst selection of Christmas movies.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So I was kind of disappointed. So I was asking
- 1:30Speaker 2: in the Facebook group yesterday, like, hey, they had Coyote
- 1:34Speaker 2: Creek Christmas and Christmas at Castlehart and can you guess
- 1:38Speaker 2: what the third one was? Do you have any guestses Megan?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Well, if it was terrible, was it a timeless Christmas?
- 1:45Speaker 2: You know, here's the truth. I can't actually remember what
- 1:48Speaker 2: the third That's why I was hoping people would just
- 1:52Speaker 2: fill in the planks.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Jingle Bellbride, Hey, I like jingle Bell.
- 1:57Speaker 2: No I needed that. Maybe I guess I'd didn't. I
- 2:00Speaker 2: was thinking it was on the twelfth day of Christmas.
- 2:02Speaker 1: That like, great movie. Yes.
- 2:06Speaker 2: So anyway, we were talking about that in the Facebook
- 2:09Speaker 2: group yesterday, and we were also discussing this morning the
- 2:13Speaker 2: raging homophobia.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Oh on, I am popped in this morning.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Well, I just was like saying, hey, if you guys
- 2:22Speaker 2: liked this movie, head on over to IMDb, leave a
- 2:27Speaker 2: leave a positive comment on the way that you like
- 2:31Speaker 2: Hallmark the direction they're going, they're gonna see it. But
- 2:35Speaker 2: we'll talk about the terrible comments on IMDb in a
- 2:38Speaker 2: little bit.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Well, it's funny that you say that because I have
- 2:41Speaker 1: a screenshot of a review that got me all fired
- 2:44Speaker 1: up shortly so okay cool. Same page. Also a synopsis
- 2:49Speaker 1: of this movie, I sure do.
- 2:52Speaker 2: When two weddings are ruined by the bride and the
- 2:56Speaker 2: other groom, both getting left at the altar, they still
- 3:00Speaker 2: side to take their honeymoons, not knowing they are headed
- 3:02Speaker 2: to the same resort in Hawaii, storrying Ashley Williams writing,
- 3:06Speaker 2: Baby and Mary Margaret.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Humes all right, it's time for news and notes. Would
- 3:12Speaker 1: you like some Hallmarky news and notes?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Firs? Yes, yes I would. What's happening?
- 3:17Speaker 1: Well, First of all, we do not watch When Calls
- 3:20Speaker 1: the Heart. It's nine seasons in. I feel like the
- 3:23Speaker 1: ship has sailed and we could not possibly catch it. However,
- 3:27Speaker 1: it has a very strong and vocal fan base on Twitter,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and they have been begging for an announcement of season
- 3:35Speaker 1: ten after the finale of season nine, and Hallmark has
- 3:38Speaker 1: finally given the people what they have asked for. When
- 3:40Speaker 1: Calls the Heart has been renewed for season ten.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh, It's like The Gray's Anatomy of Hallmark. It just
- 3:46Speaker 2: keeps going. Huh right.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Also in Hallmark News, you may have seen a preview
- 3:53Speaker 1: last night or Unthinkably Good Things, and I happen to
- 3:58Speaker 1: come across a tweet from the Hallmark all about this movie.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Unthinkably Good Things is part of Mahogany, which is a
- 4:04Speaker 1: new film franchise coming to the Hallmark Channel in August,
- 4:08Speaker 1: celebrating black excellence. This is the kickoff movie and it
- 4:12Speaker 1: features music from Lizzo. Stop it, I mean, hello, welcome
- 4:17Speaker 1: to Hallmark Lizzo.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I didn't see any promotion for that, but oh I
- 4:24Speaker 2: love Lizzo so much. I'm so excited. So you do.
- 4:28Speaker 2: That's amazing, super cool. Now. The only thing I saw
- 4:32Speaker 2: aired in the commercials was Christmas in July, so.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Lots of that, lots of that coming, yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. And my husband's like, oh Christmas in July
- 4:42Speaker 2: perked right up.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I was like, oh really, I'm so surprised that you
- 4:47Speaker 1: are excited about this. Okay.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Cool.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Well, my husband, as everybody knows, is a huge Hallmark
- 4:53Speaker 1: Christmas fan, does not really watch anything except occasionally a
- 4:56Speaker 1: Fall movie. So he has already started recording. By that,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean he has asked me to record, because I
- 5:03Speaker 1: am a tech support in this house Hollmark Christmas movies,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and so we have been recording the throwback movies on
- 5:12Speaker 1: Movies industeries.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and he has been.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Watching those nightly and he will not watch anything else, honestly,
- 5:19Speaker 1: probably for the next several weeks. So we're all in
- 5:23Speaker 1: on Christmas in July.
- 5:24Speaker 2: You couldn't get him to watch Two Tickets in Paradise,
- 5:26Speaker 2: Two Tickets to Paradise, So.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I asked, And I was actually watching it while he
- 5:32Speaker 1: was watching another Christmas movie, and there was a preview
- 5:37Speaker 1: for Two Tickets to Paradise on his screen while I
- 5:39Speaker 1: was watching mine, and I was like poking in with
- 5:41Speaker 1: my headphones and I was like, huh.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Huh very meta. Wow. Uh yeah, I asked my husband.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I was like, uh, I really need to watch this movie.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I have to record tomorrow morning. Can we watch it together?
- 5:53Speaker 2: And he's like, you owe me? And I was like,
- 5:55Speaker 2: don't even start with the you owe me nonsense, mister.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I like to watch all the Calmark Christmas movies, you know.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yes, Well, I'm ready to do some news and notes
- 6:05Speaker 1: about two Tickets to Paradise.
- 6:06Speaker 2: All right, let's go.
- 6:09Speaker 1: This was written by Tracy Andrene, who has written a
- 6:12Speaker 1: ton of movies, but perhaps well a ton of Hallmark movies,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I should say, but perhaps most notably, she is the
- 6:19Speaker 1: writer of the Spirit of Christmas, which I still cannot believe.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I have not had you watch because this.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Movie is so in its own league. It is about
- 6:28Speaker 1: a woman who inherits an inn that is haunted by
- 6:31Speaker 1: a ghost who she then falls in love with, and
- 6:34Speaker 1: the ghost then makes the decision to become alive.
- 6:38Speaker 2: To be with her. Oh I didn't know that's the thing.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It stars uh Jen Lily, Oh.
- 6:45Speaker 2: No, oh no.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But it is truly an exceptional movie and I am
- 6:52Speaker 1: thrilled by this connection.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I also looked at her writing credits and I was like, Wow,
- 6:59Speaker 2: She's r in a lot of movies, but none I've
- 7:02Speaker 2: ever seen.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Isn't that funny?
- 7:04Speaker 2: I know? And she's run a lot of them too,
- 7:06Speaker 2: And I was like, Oh, it's crazy, like nothing in
- 7:08Speaker 2: the last two years that I've watched.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, her Hallmark catalog is deep.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It is, it is okay. Here is the obvious. Filming
- 7:19Speaker 2: took place on O Wahu, especially in and around Honolulu.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Some filming took place at the Royal Hawaiian Resort, and
- 7:27Speaker 2: I'm guessing that is the big pink building in this movie. Wow,
- 7:32Speaker 2: that's a pink resort. I will say that. I was
- 7:37Speaker 2: poking around and I came across an article that said
- 7:44Speaker 2: fan fave Lacey Shabert is also filming a Hawaiian themed
- 7:52Speaker 2: movie on the island of Oahu. So I don't know
- 7:58Speaker 2: when that's gonna come out. But are you eating Aloha Christmas? Maybe? Maybe? Maybe?
- 8:06Speaker 2: Dumped at the altar? No, that's this movie? Maybe? Uh,
- 8:10Speaker 2: I don't know, broken up and decides she wants to
- 8:12Speaker 2: go on a Hawaiian vacation for Christmas. Maybe ye has
- 8:17Speaker 2: that been done? I'm sure it has. I mean, get on,
- 8:21Speaker 2: all right, go ahead.
- 8:23Speaker 1: So Ryan Pavey and Ashley Williams are no strangers, two
- 8:28Speaker 1: girls gone homework, but I have some some fun facts
- 8:32Speaker 1: about each of them.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Okay, cool?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Ryan Pavie appeared in a Christina Aguilera music video for
- 8:40Speaker 1: the song Your Body What Now?
- 8:43Speaker 2: I don't even know what song is that.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I don't know. It doesn't matter. I just am imagining
- 8:47Speaker 1: him like grinding alongside shirtless Aguilera because he got his
- 8:51Speaker 1: start as a model before he became an actor. I'm
- 8:54Speaker 1: so pretty to look at he is so pretty.
- 8:57Speaker 2: How many years ago was this? Hold up just a second,
- 9:00Speaker 2: I am pulling up YouTube because I need to see
- 9:03Speaker 2: that's really quick nine years ago.
- 9:05Speaker 1: In twenty twelve, he's also in the Robin Thick sex
- 9:08Speaker 1: therapy video, as an as the Tony Brexon hands tied
- 9:12Speaker 1: music video.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Oh let's see a theme here.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Well, for what it's worth, the Robin Thick song that
- 9:19Speaker 1: I just pulled up is also unrecognizable. So he's getten
- 9:22Speaker 1: the deep cut music videos on these albums.
- 9:25Speaker 2: That's a nice way of putting it.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you're gonna start somewhere.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I guess so, yes so, but he does soap so right.
- 9:34Speaker 1: He was in two hundred and eighty four episodes of
- 9:37Speaker 1: General Hospital?
- 9:38Speaker 2: Is General Hospital even on still?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Since twenty nineteen he's almost exclusively been in Hallmark movies
- 9:45Speaker 1: and twenty eighteen was his last appearance on General Hospital.
- 9:51Speaker 1: There are seven thousand, four hundred sixty three episodes of
- 9:56Speaker 1: General Hospital as today is June twenty eighth. The most
- 9:59Speaker 1: recently airing episode was Monday, June twenty seventh. So yes, oh, Jeff,
- 10:03Speaker 1: Hospital is still on the air.
- 10:06Speaker 2: What other fun facts do you have about our actors?
- 10:09Speaker 1: Well? Ashley Williams was born in November nineteen seventy eight,
- 10:13Speaker 1: which makes her seven months older than Jay Castles, who
- 10:16Speaker 1: was born in June nineteen seventy nine, who plays her
- 10:19Speaker 1: mother in this film.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Oh my god, that is so funny. I was wondering
- 10:25Speaker 2: the age of that woman.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Actually, yes, and I feel like they're like, Eh, she's
- 10:31Speaker 1: got a little gray in her hair, let's make her
- 10:32Speaker 1: play the mom.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, come on, Cassie, let's put like a
- 10:37Speaker 2: let's hire are some mature women. It's okay, it's okay.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Last that Mary Margaret Humes, she plays Rain Pavies like
- 10:47Speaker 2: I don't know, buddy friend. She's been in a bunch
- 10:51Speaker 2: of Hallmark movies, but of course she's probably most recognized
- 10:54Speaker 2: to this gen xer as the Dawson's mom on Dawson's
- 10:58Speaker 2: Creek Mom. All right, so let's talk imd B reviews.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So I have a confession to make. I looked at
- 11:09Speaker 1: the IMDb reviews and just kind of scrolled and I
- 11:14Speaker 1: got to one and it made my brain short circuit.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And I didn't read any of the others. So I
- 11:19Speaker 1: don't know what the IMDb reviews as a whole are,
- 11:22Speaker 1: but this one may be ready to rage.
- 11:25Speaker 2: So let me hear.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I need to know the title is and I'm sure
- 11:28Speaker 1: you have seen it. Ironically, to me, the title is
- 11:33Speaker 1: what the other reviewers aren't saying, or maybe no one
- 11:36Speaker 1: cares anymore. Oh, then he was on to make a
- 11:44Speaker 1: truly horrific number of statements. I'm still not used to
- 11:47Speaker 1: Hallmark having genuflected to the gay agenda and their movie
- 11:50Speaker 1: making fun fact, buddy, how about maybe they've just acknowledged
- 11:54Speaker 1: that there are lots of different kinds of people in
- 11:55Speaker 1: the world. One actor, over the top effeminates, similar to
- 12:00Speaker 1: the over the top Pool boy who noticed Reese Witherspoon's
- 12:03Speaker 1: shoes in Legally Blonde, which just makes me laugh so
- 12:05Speaker 1: hard because to me, there was absolutely zero connection between
- 12:10Speaker 1: the actor and two Tickets to Paradise and the don't
- 12:12Speaker 1: stomp your last season product shoes at me, honey, actor
- 12:15Speaker 1: legally Blond.
- 12:16Speaker 2: That's okay. I couldn't remember, because I mean, it is
- 12:19Speaker 2: a freaking thirty year old reference. Here.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Apparently I got under jfen five three oh five eighths shoes,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I mean skin, Oh my god, go ahead, he goes on. Otherwise,
- 12:34Speaker 1: this story is okay. The leads do okay, record and
- 12:37Speaker 1: fast forward. If kids are watching, perhaps just look, this
- 12:40Speaker 1: was not the week. This was not the week to
- 12:43Speaker 1: come at me with your blatant homophobia, because my tolerance
- 12:48Speaker 1: for intolerance and the world at large doesn't exist anymore. Yes,
- 12:55Speaker 1: I am done with you, is what I'm saying. I
- 13:00Speaker 1: wished this guy hot and itchy sheets for the rest
- 13:04Speaker 1: of his life, Like, may you never find the cool
- 13:09Speaker 1: side of the pillow ever again?
- 13:11Speaker 2: Sir?
- 13:12Speaker 1: Uh?
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yeah his comment I read. There were maybe two or
- 13:18Speaker 2: three others as well, and it was basically like, how
- 13:21Speaker 2: dare Hallmark rate this? PG? Thirteen? This is not family friendly?
- 13:26Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, two men are kissing. I was like, really,
- 13:31Speaker 2: people wake up, Like come on. So look in our
- 13:36Speaker 2: Facebook group, somebody asked like, I don't know how to
- 13:39Speaker 2: leave an IMDb review, So I am doing a small
- 13:43Speaker 2: tutorial over there later today. Look, I've said here time
- 13:47Speaker 2: and time again. IMDb is very hard to use on
- 13:49Speaker 2: the back end. But if you are just like a
- 13:53Speaker 2: regular viewer who wants to leave a review, I think
- 13:55Speaker 2: you just maybe need to create an account and click
- 13:59Speaker 2: the movie that you want to leave review on.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And please do so.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Because I truly believe that Hallmark is moving in this
- 14:06Speaker 2: new direction. I'm here for it. They need to hear
- 14:09Speaker 2: the voices that support it.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I agree, and I think you know, the people who
- 14:14Speaker 1: are angry are always going to be the ones who
- 14:16Speaker 1: leave any sort of review. Sure of, voices have more
- 14:20Speaker 1: to say. And there are real people behind these movies
- 14:23Speaker 1: and beyond just like a big bad I mean, Hallmark
- 14:27Speaker 1: is a huge network and corporation. The people who make
- 14:32Speaker 1: these movies and write these movies, and act in these
- 14:34Speaker 1: movies and direct these movies are real people with real
- 14:36Speaker 1: lives who want to hear other, real people saying kind
- 14:42Speaker 1: and lovely things and not just this sort of hate
- 14:45Speaker 1: spewed about their rates exactly. Okay, let's talk about first impressions.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Go ahead, what's yours? This is Paybe's best movie.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Oh well, I agree with you there, man. My first
- 15:01Speaker 1: impression is I knew there were going to be hula lessons.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Oh always right. I think you mentioned that in our
- 15:09Speaker 2: preview episode that these like Destination movies always have like
- 15:15Speaker 2: the activities.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yes, and I appreciated that it was a little bit
- 15:18Speaker 1: of a hula lesson with a twist. We did have
- 15:21Speaker 1: a lot of the classic Hawaiian movie tropes hula lesson,
- 15:25Speaker 1: lay making, snorkeling. I didn't hate any of it.
- 15:29Speaker 2: But it was as expected.
- 15:31Speaker 1: It was as expected. I felt indicated.
- 15:34Speaker 2: You know what was not expected, m was that three
- 15:37Speaker 2: legged race. And let me tell you, my husband and
- 15:39Speaker 2: I would have killed each other. Oh me doing a
- 15:42Speaker 2: three legged race, There's no way we would have won.
- 15:46Speaker 2: He would have been dragging my dead body behind.
- 15:50Speaker 1: You know you watched Survivor or have in the past.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Of course, you know how often they will bring like
- 15:56Speaker 1: a family member or a loved one on for a
- 15:59Speaker 1: special activity. He's like, if I ever go on Survivor,
- 16:03Speaker 1: please don't be please send like, please send to friends.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Please send my strapping teenage son and not my forty
- 16:12Speaker 2: plus year old wife.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Or my like college basketball coaching best friend. Like you know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: so I really I'm with you on that one. I
- 16:23Speaker 1: love you, but just please day home.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I just thought it was such an odd like competition
- 16:31Speaker 2: for a Hawaiian resort. I know, it was bizarre, super bizarre.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Well, and like how I think they're like, well, how
- 16:38Speaker 1: do we get these two people to be physically close
- 16:41Speaker 1: to each other in situation? Yeah?
- 16:45Speaker 2: I don't know, because you're not going to do like
- 16:47Speaker 2: a dance lesson because you got to do a hula
- 16:50Speaker 2: dance lesson Right, all right, what.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Do we like about this movie?
- 16:55Speaker 2: Hey? I really liked their playful ribbing of each other.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I thought it was funny. I wasn't too sure about
- 17:05Speaker 2: how these two actors would work together, based on like
- 17:10Speaker 2: the energy that they put out in their moods, but
- 17:14Speaker 2: somehow it like worked well with their characters, so it
- 17:19Speaker 2: worked all together.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I wrote, Ryan and Ashley have complimentary energy in this movie.
- 17:27Speaker 1: We had talked in our PREVIEUW episode. We were concerned
- 17:30Speaker 1: about that she goes real high, he can go real mellow,
- 17:34Speaker 1: and I just thought they met each other in the
- 17:36Speaker 1: middle so nicely.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I agree. I agree.
- 17:42Speaker 1: On my list of likes is Ryan freakin baby, Thank
- 17:47Speaker 1: you Finally you've come to come to the Pavy side
- 17:51Speaker 1: of things. Look, let's be clear, I've always liked Ryan Pavey,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but you will admit he can be a little flat.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Real stiff, buttoned up, kind of too robotic and flat. Yes, yes,
- 18:07Speaker 2: for sure.
- 18:07Speaker 1: So pretty. I've been rooting for him all along, and
- 18:10Speaker 1: I feel like he finally showed up. Please make more
- 18:13Speaker 1: movies with Ashley. You two are a dream team. It
- 18:16Speaker 1: was a great pairing.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I mean, I just can we just talk about him
- 18:20Speaker 2: some more. This salt and pepper hair that he has
- 18:26Speaker 2: is real, attractive, beautiful eyes, great lips. Tons of shirtless
- 18:31Speaker 2: scenes in this movie. And I don't mean to sit
- 18:33Speaker 2: here and like get all hot and bothered and objectified
- 18:37Speaker 2: mister Paby, but he looked great.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Look. I don't think mister Pavey minds the objectification as
- 18:44Speaker 1: he's like, would you like me to surf in this movie? Yes? Please?
- 18:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm saying Tyler Hines scoot over a little bit. Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 2: You know, I liked Ryan's relaxed vibe in this and
- 18:58Speaker 2: I mean that in like movie, we see him and
- 19:01Speaker 2: he's so buttoned up right, and he's just like in
- 19:05Speaker 2: flip flops and like board shorts and just very like
- 19:09Speaker 2: kind of casual. I mean, still like not high energy.
- 19:14Speaker 2: He's very Ryan babe, but like I just wanted to
- 19:18Speaker 2: hang out with him.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, snorkeling something I liked it.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go some of the sea turtles, Ryan, dude?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Was that real? It looked real?
- 19:30Speaker 1: Right, I thought it looked real when they were swimming
- 19:33Speaker 1: around with them. But you know, as you know you've
- 19:36Speaker 1: been to Hawaii, the sea turtles are protected. There are
- 19:40Speaker 1: many places where you can see sea turtles, especially on
- 19:43Speaker 1: O Wahuo, but you are not allowed to touch them,
- 19:47Speaker 1: so I I don't know what the filming rules around
- 19:51Speaker 1: that are, like how close they can get? Good question
- 19:53Speaker 1: their environment, But I did think that looked real. There
- 19:56Speaker 1: were some other like which I'll talk about later, but
- 19:59Speaker 1: like the whale scene and the dolphins which were obviously
- 20:01Speaker 1: like b roll that were just cut in because they
- 20:03Speaker 1: weren't in the shot with them, right, I thought those
- 20:07Speaker 1: sea turtles were either incredibly great cgi or or it
- 20:12Speaker 1: could have been not the two of them. I don't know.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I believe that, good question. Yeah, I don't know. We mean,
- 20:19Speaker 2: we need some more insider information on this. I know
- 20:23Speaker 2: sea turtles, not personally. I had heard the story that
- 20:28Speaker 2: they're mean, like they will bite you. You don't want
- 20:31Speaker 2: to get.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Close to him. Interesting, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know
- 20:35Speaker 1: sea turtles.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Yeah I don't. I don't know jack about sea turtles,
- 20:40Speaker 2: to be honest, but I had heard a story one
- 20:42Speaker 2: time when I was in Hawaii that some guy got
- 20:46Speaker 2: was trying to touch them and you're not supposed to.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Heck, you definitely not supposed to. I honestly think it's illegal.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I think it is, and he was bitten by one
- 20:54Speaker 2: and then had to go to the hospital and lied
- 20:57Speaker 2: because I didn't want to get chasing. I don't yeah
- 21:01Speaker 2: down a dark alley. Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:03Speaker 1: A couple of little things that I liked. I loved
- 21:05Speaker 1: the autocorrect scene. I thought it was really well done,
- 21:09Speaker 1: so relatable, totally right.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I just laughed out loud. I was like, that's me.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I mean, sometimes these texting scenes can really date the movies.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm like, could you have invested twenty more seconds into
- 21:20Speaker 1: making this look like an actual foam texting interface? And
- 21:24Speaker 1: they did a great job.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I agree. I did see a comment
- 21:28Speaker 2: on IMDb that the text was not big enough for
- 21:33Speaker 2: viewers to see at home, and I don't have to
- 21:35Speaker 2: do with that to pause it to read it, so.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm based on the size of your TV. Yeah I
- 21:41Speaker 1: could see that.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I like it when they do texting scenes and they
- 21:44Speaker 1: pop up the bubbles like outside of the phone.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Me too, I love it. I love it. A hotel
- 21:53Speaker 2: concierge played by Kimmy boal Milli row, Yeah, I butchered it.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I don't know how to say her last name, but
- 22:00Speaker 2: she was adorable.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Eilani loved her and she acts in a number of
- 22:07Speaker 1: Hawaii Bass shows like Hawaii five Oh and Magnum Pi
- 22:11Speaker 1: and Dougie Howser Doogie Howser. Well, it's not Doogie Howser,
- 22:16Speaker 1: Dougie Dougie Kameaaloha md oh.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Is that an episode of Disney Movie a Disney show?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Yes, it is a Disney Plus series.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Cute. I adored her when she and Ashley Hannah were
- 22:34Speaker 2: it is Hannah right, Yeah, when they were saying goodbye
- 22:38Speaker 2: at the end and she was like, if you ever
- 22:39Speaker 2: come back to a wa who comes in? And I
- 22:41Speaker 2: was like, why aren't you guys like exchanging, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 2: social medias like friends, You guys can be friends.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. The world is wide.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 1: She was cute. I also liked supporting character Alice as
- 22:59Speaker 1: you mentioned, and played.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Oh sorry my bad. Yeah, pry Mark, I'm a huge.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Fan of the sister or the mom. Honestly, I mean
- 23:08Speaker 1: I didn't dislike them. They just didn't. There was nothing
- 23:11Speaker 1: particularly striking about either of them to me. I agree.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I honestly thought the sister was like annoying, oh a
- 23:18Speaker 1: little yeah, you know, in the ways that we sometimes
- 23:23Speaker 1: find Ashley Williams overwhelming, which I did not find her
- 23:25Speaker 1: to be in this movie. I thought the sister had
- 23:27Speaker 1: that energy.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yes, I mean, I just feel like this is such
- 23:31Speaker 2: a missed opportunity, Like why wouldn't what's her name, Kimberly
- 23:35Speaker 2: Williams Paisley, Why wouldn't she be like, yeah, let me
- 23:38Speaker 2: go out to Hawaii and work for half a day
- 23:41Speaker 2: to film these scenes, like right, put the real sister
- 23:44Speaker 2: in it. Like fans would freak out about that.
- 23:47Speaker 1: You know, I know they have such energy, such good
- 23:49Speaker 1: energy together.
- 23:50Speaker 2: You know. What I really liked there was there were
- 23:52Speaker 2: some times when they were like walking and talking. They
- 23:55Speaker 2: were doing a lot of walking and talking, and she
- 23:56Speaker 2: was asking some really good questions about him. She said
- 24:00Speaker 2: something about like him not knowing himself and maybe therefore
- 24:04Speaker 2: that was the demise of the relationship with Becca I
- 24:08Speaker 2: think that's her name. And I just was like it
- 24:11Speaker 2: just got deep enough that I was like, these are
- 24:16Speaker 2: really cool things to think about, like we weren't getting
- 24:20Speaker 2: like the typical Hallmark movie. I liked the writing, Yes.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Me too, I thought I thought it was thoughtful and
- 24:29Speaker 1: well done. Maybe that's why we haven't seen a recent
- 24:33Speaker 1: movie from Tracy Andrene, because she's not turning out seventeen
- 24:35Speaker 1: a year, so.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Good point, valid points. I like that this wasn't a
- 24:44Speaker 2: typical rushed romance. I mean, it was predictable at the end,
- 24:48Speaker 2: and I'm glad they got together, but like, it wasn't
- 24:51Speaker 2: like I love you, We're still on the island, it's
- 24:53Speaker 2: only been a week, you know. I thought it felt
- 24:56Speaker 2: very organic. These were two people who found a friend
- 25:00Speaker 2: ship with each other out of a really shitty circumstance.
- 25:04Speaker 2: I just it was, it was just good.
- 25:06Speaker 1: It was good.
- 25:07Speaker 2: The other thing I really liked is when Marcus shows
- 25:10Speaker 2: up to the island and Hannah wasn't taking any of
- 25:13Speaker 2: his bs es, you know, like and he kind of
- 25:17Speaker 2: like mad dogged pavee a little bit like I can't
- 25:20Speaker 2: remember the line exactly, but she was like, you want
- 25:24Speaker 2: to talk, Let's talk, you know, Like I was like,
- 25:26Speaker 2: good for you, Good for you.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Anyway, which was I agree that she the entire time
- 25:32Speaker 1: you could tell that she wasn't immediately thrilled to see him.
- 25:35Speaker 1: She wasn't like, thank god, You've come to rescue me,
- 25:38Speaker 1: which made it so weird that she was like, yeah,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I'm going to go home with him, Like what.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I Yeah, I was kind of disappointed by that, but
- 25:45Speaker 2: I get that they had to do it. Ay, but
- 25:48Speaker 2: she like why why she haould like come to this
- 25:53Speaker 2: realization that he was not her dude and she's still
- 25:57Speaker 2: left with him.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah. I wonder, you know, her mom was saying, you
- 26:01Speaker 1: need to come home and talk to Marcus. I wonder
- 26:02Speaker 1: if there was some sense of obligation there. I kind
- 26:06Speaker 1: of would have liked an extra scene of her talking
- 26:09Speaker 1: to Kylani or someone saying, you know, I feel like
- 26:12Speaker 1: I have an obligation to see this through.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Well, Okay, that brings me to a question that I
- 26:17Speaker 2: was going to ask you. Okay, the mom, she's talking
- 26:21Speaker 2: to her on the phone and she's like, you need
- 26:23Speaker 2: to come home, you need you have an obligation to
- 26:25Speaker 2: talk to him, like and Ashley says, like about what
- 26:29Speaker 2: and she's like getting married? And I was like, here's
- 26:33Speaker 2: my question to you. Would you even reconsider revisiting Mary
- 26:38Speaker 2: and a dude who left you at the altar?
- 26:40Speaker 1: No?
- 26:41Speaker 2: Never, It'd be like over right, like goodbye?
- 26:45Speaker 1: You know, would twenty five year old me, which is
- 26:47Speaker 1: how old I was when I got married, be strong
- 26:48Speaker 1: enough to make that decision.
- 26:51Speaker 2: I don't.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I'd like to think no. But watching this, I had
- 26:54Speaker 1: that same thought, like absolutely not know, we're done, Like
- 26:56Speaker 1: you didn't have the respect for me to do this
- 26:59Speaker 1: even twenty four hours ahead of our wedding. You waited
- 27:02Speaker 1: until I was in a white dress and all of
- 27:05Speaker 1: our friends and family were there. No, we're done.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, but you know character Hannah is
- 27:13Speaker 2: not twenty five.
- 27:14Speaker 1: So no, no, no, no, I no, I know. I
- 27:16Speaker 1: was just wondering thinking about myself. Would I be.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Strong enough to Yeah, I don't. I don't know.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I don't.
- 27:22Speaker 2: That would be a hard decision to make because you
- 27:24Speaker 2: because I think like you have the way of family
- 27:26Speaker 2: on you at that point, and we've we've paid all
- 27:29Speaker 2: this money and blah blah blah blah. You know what
- 27:31Speaker 2: I mean. It's harder to walk away from a wedding
- 27:34Speaker 2: than it is to get married.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Oh, one hundred percent. And I have told this story before,
- 27:40Speaker 1: but when I was engaged, every single time I talked
- 27:43Speaker 1: to my dad, he would say if she still want
- 27:44Speaker 1: to get married because he didn't want me to get married,
- 27:47Speaker 1: but because he didn't want me to feel like I
- 27:48Speaker 1: ever had got past the point of no return, and
- 27:52Speaker 1: that's a not necessarily that exact tactic. But if you
- 27:56Speaker 1: are a parent of a child getting married, I think
- 27:59Speaker 1: that's a good message to send.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Them, like.
- 28:03Speaker 1: That, your life is not worth less than the money
- 28:07Speaker 1: we have paid.
- 28:07Speaker 2: For this way right, exactly, all right? So what did
- 28:10Speaker 2: you wish for?
- 28:12Speaker 1: Really? Only one thing?
- 28:14Speaker 2: Oh, let me hear.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Josh says to Becca when he they have their closure
- 28:21Speaker 1: conversation that he thinks he needs to figure out who
- 28:24Speaker 1: he is alone outside of a relationship. And one thing
- 28:28Speaker 1: I was hoping for as I was watching this was
- 28:30Speaker 1: I like them together. I want them to end up together.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But they've both been in these long term relationships, they've
- 28:35Speaker 1: both were planning to get married. They do need to
- 28:38Speaker 1: be alone for a minute and see who they are
- 28:40Speaker 1: and see if this just isn't a vacation romance. And
- 28:45Speaker 1: then he doesn't do that, and yes, they do go home,
- 28:50Speaker 1: but they're pretty much together immediately because a year later
- 28:52Speaker 1: they are married.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, the timing was weird, right, He should have stayed
- 28:57Speaker 2: in Hawaii and ran the business or whatever and then
- 29:01Speaker 2: come home and then buy a house and then run
- 29:05Speaker 2: into her, because then they've had some apart time you know.
- 29:09Speaker 1: She he only needed to be in Hawaii for a
- 29:11Speaker 1: couple of months, so I think we could have had
- 29:13Speaker 1: two months later and he's come home and he's had
- 29:16Speaker 1: this time exactly as you said. That's my wish. Okay.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I did not have one thing I wished for. Oh
- 29:23Speaker 2: can you believe that?
- 29:24Speaker 1: I cannot?
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but I have tons of did you see that? Oh?
- 29:28Speaker 1: Good? I only have two?
- 29:30Speaker 2: Oh? Okay. Well, Josh's fiancee Becca at the very beginning
- 29:35Speaker 2: when she like gives him the ring back or whatever,
- 29:39Speaker 2: girlfriend has the nineties spiral perm of my teenage dreams.
- 29:45Speaker 1: She had great hair, really great hair, like Rebecca Gayheart hair.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yes, I just loved it. Like, man, it's a real
- 29:53Speaker 2: throwbag Megan.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I know, but she's like my favorite hair of all time,
- 29:57Speaker 1: Like as Dylan's wife, what she wears and her hair,
- 30:04Speaker 1: it's like if I could be any person I've ever
- 30:06Speaker 1: seen on television, it would be her.
- 30:08Speaker 2: And she's talking about Dylan on Beverly Hills and I
- 30:11Speaker 2: know two one house.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and his wife who gets murdered by her own father.
- 30:14Speaker 1: So I don't actually want to be her.
- 30:15Speaker 2: But yeah, great hair though, but this girl Becca had
- 30:19Speaker 2: great hair too, which made me wonder, like, you should
- 30:22Speaker 2: because you have long, beautiful hair, you should wear your
- 30:24Speaker 2: hair curly like that, like I want you to do
- 30:28Speaker 2: like a spiral, like smaller curl all around. I want
- 30:33Speaker 2: to see what that looks like.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know how to do that. She had
- 30:37Speaker 1: curly hair.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I think your hair gets curly when you like let
- 30:42Speaker 2: it dry like naturally, not like that.
- 30:45Speaker 1: But yeah, you know, they maybe like.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Those foam tube things to make that curl.
- 30:52Speaker 1: You know, I do know what you're talking about. We
- 30:54Speaker 1: may have to try this.
- 30:55Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I'm just curious. It was just good hair. It was
- 30:59Speaker 1: great hair.
- 31:00Speaker 2: How many activities can one do on a vacation? Just
- 31:03Speaker 2: sit down and relax? Man, seriously, Now, I really liked
- 31:08Speaker 2: that she was like, give me all the drinks. Give
- 31:11Speaker 2: me when she's like, what can I order the drink
- 31:15Speaker 2: that like it seems appropriate for the morning or whatever.
- 31:18Speaker 1: It was.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Just funny, just funny, but like to stack your day
- 31:24Speaker 2: with so many things. I'm going to Hawaii later in
- 31:28Speaker 2: the month and we don't have one thing planned.
- 31:32Speaker 1: That's the whole point. And she does say, look, I'm
- 31:34Speaker 1: gonna take a nap by the pool. She never takes
- 31:36Speaker 1: a nap by the pool.
- 31:37Speaker 2: She's like, I gotta get to my Seashell collecting class
- 31:40Speaker 2: or I gotta get to my whatever.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Doesn't make for very compelling montage making and holler, glupies.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I suppose laying by the pool reading a People magazine
- 31:52Speaker 2: can't do it.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I have one actual digit see that moment,
- 31:59Speaker 1: and that is okay. Toward the end, when Hannah and
- 32:02Speaker 1: Marcus are breaking up, there is a moment of silence
- 32:07Speaker 1: where I watch all this with my captions on, and
- 32:11Speaker 1: so in the image, it's the back of Ashley's head
- 32:14Speaker 1: and there's no dialogue for like ten seconds, and then
- 32:17Speaker 1: it switches and you can see the front of her head.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Now when it's the back of her head, there's a
- 32:21Speaker 1: line on the screen that she does not say, and
- 32:24Speaker 1: it says something like breaking up not be the easy choice.
- 32:27Speaker 1: And then the camera angle changes and you can see
- 32:30Speaker 1: her face and she says, but I think it's the
- 32:32Speaker 1: right choice. I'm butchering the line. I didn't write it down,
- 32:34Speaker 1: but that's essentially what's happening there. I don't know if
- 32:38Speaker 1: they needed to edit something back in there, but they
- 32:42Speaker 1: did it, and it's very obviously a missing line. It's
- 32:45Speaker 1: not just an incorrectly close caption, because I went back
- 32:49Speaker 1: and watched it and it doesn't make sense what you
- 32:52Speaker 1: hear her say, like there's clearly information missing there when
- 32:56Speaker 1: she says but it's the right thing to do.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Oh anyway, interesting mistake. I mean equal eyes there. I'm impressed.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I'm actually shocked that I caught it. I was watching carefully.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I have a question, U, if you're kayaking, uh huh
- 33:13Speaker 1: and a giant whale breaches in front of you, No,
- 33:15Speaker 1: you shit your pants? I just wrote, would you shit
- 33:20Speaker 1: your pants if whales breach while you're kayaking?
- 33:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yes, it would be mesmerizing to see, right,
- 33:29Speaker 2: But is that whale gonna eat me?
- 33:31Speaker 1: No?
- 33:32Speaker 2: Like I would be rowing backwards like no no, And
- 33:36Speaker 2: I know.
- 33:37Speaker 1: That those are like not people eating whales, but it
- 33:41Speaker 1: does not matter. It does not matter. Your kayak is
- 33:44Speaker 1: so lobbly. And they showed the overhead shot, which of
- 33:47Speaker 1: course was not actually like these two giant whales next
- 33:50Speaker 1: to them, but absolutely not. I'm out, Like, what if
- 33:53Speaker 1: they bump you and now you're in the water with
- 33:54Speaker 1: no no, nope, no, That's why I do not like
- 33:58Speaker 1: to go in the ocean.
- 34:00Speaker 2: I no, there are big giant animals in the ocean. Yeah,
- 34:03Speaker 2: I'm not interested. No, no, no, I put my feet
- 34:06Speaker 2: in and that's it. Nope. Yeah, okay, the terrible list
- 34:11Speaker 2: making app. Yeah, Now I'm curious. Did it appeal to
- 34:17Speaker 2: you because you love a list?
- 34:19Speaker 1: I love a list. I did not love the esthetic
- 34:22Speaker 1: of the app so ugly, and I was like, why
- 34:25Speaker 1: do they keep showing it?
- 34:27Speaker 2: Oh my god, he's the creator. I couldn't. I was like,
- 34:31Speaker 2: He's like, I didn't do the coding. I just know
- 34:34Speaker 2: he did the business side of it, right, So yeah,
- 34:36Speaker 2: he was like putting that ugly design on his partner.
- 34:39Speaker 1: But like still, I was like, oh my god, that's
- 34:42Speaker 1: so terrible terrible. Yeah, And then I wonder better in Canada?
- 34:48Speaker 2: Right, And then I wonder like does that actually exist?
- 34:51Speaker 2: I mean, we make our own like notes like that
- 34:54Speaker 2: in our notes app, but like, is there an app
- 34:57Speaker 2: out there that exists like that?
- 34:59Speaker 1: Oh for lit? Yeah? Oh yes, many?
- 35:04Speaker 2: Eh? Do they look better than that one? Because what
- 35:07Speaker 2: was it called? Like it had a stupid name too.
- 35:10Speaker 1: They'd have to look better. I mean it would be
- 35:12Speaker 1: impossible not to.
- 35:13Speaker 2: And finally, for me, I really really loved that they
- 35:17Speaker 2: used Eddie Money's two Tickets to Paradise because I love
- 35:21Speaker 2: that song. It makes it's a feel good song every
- 35:23Speaker 2: time it comes on. I love it, love it, love it.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I wholeheartedly agree. As I was prepping to watch this movie,
- 35:29Speaker 1: I was singing two tickets. Look, I won't do that
- 35:32Speaker 1: to anybody, But it didn't occur to me until immediately
- 35:36Speaker 1: before sitting down, as that song was in my head
- 35:38Speaker 1: that that song might be in this movie, and I
- 35:40Speaker 1: was thrilled to see that they followed through there.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I agree.
- 35:45Speaker 1: What did you rate this movie?
- 35:48Speaker 2: Well, it might be surprised. Oh I gave it four
- 35:54Speaker 2: and a half stars. Oh my gosh, I am surprised.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Why that's just seems like an exceptionally high rating.
- 36:02Speaker 2: It was a good movie. It was funny. Yes, it
- 36:06Speaker 2: was truly a rom com. I laughed so many times
- 36:09Speaker 2: watching this movie, and I liked it a lot, and
- 36:13Speaker 2: I would watch it again. Yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I gave it a three and a half stars.
- 36:18Speaker 2: What I know.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I think that's three and I have stars.
- 36:21Speaker 2: That's terrible. I really liked it. It's like a C plus.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Email us or pop into our Facebook group. We need
