Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB: Where Do The Eagles Go At Left Guard With Dickerson Out?
Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on, everybody? It's
- 0:14Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher and Adam Kapp, and we're in the middle
- 0:17Speaker 1: of the week. The Eagles are preparing for a week
- 0:19Speaker 1: two showdown in Nashville, a place that they've had trouble
- 0:23Speaker 1: winning before, but they are playing a Titans team that
- 0:26Speaker 1: is 0-1, not good. But, Adam, what's not good for
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Eagles is, after all the talk we had over
- 0:32Speaker 1: the weekend about Landon Dickerson and looking like he was
- 0:34Speaker 1: not even able to compete out there, well, sure enough,
- 0:37Speaker 1: he goes on IR. He's out for four weeks at
- 0:40Speaker 1: least because we'll talk about it in a second. His
- 0:43Speaker 1: own comments that he made on WIP suggested it could
- 0:45Speaker 1: be longer than that. And already you are testing your
- 0:49Speaker 1: offensive line depth two weeks into the season. I'm not
- 0:53Speaker 1: pushing any panic buttons, but it's obviously not ideal for
- 0:56Speaker 1: a team that's really still trying to come together and
- 0:58Speaker 1: learn this new blocking system.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so look, he was very upfront with WIP when
- 1:05Speaker 2: he was on the show, whatever show that was, on
- 1:07Speaker 2: Monday night.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Told the truth.
- 1:10Speaker 2: In fact, I remember him saying, can I curse? He
- 1:14Speaker 2: played poorly. We showed the tape. It wasn't moving well.
- 1:19Speaker 2: What Greg Cosell said was troubling. He was not finishing
- 1:22Speaker 2: his steps. And in bone bruise, which is what Landon
- 1:27Speaker 2: said he has, I've had one. You have no idea
- 1:30Speaker 2: how painful that injury is. Before I had it, I didn't.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You just, you know, he's talking about a bruised knee,
- 1:36Speaker 2: but no, it's on the bone. It's extremely painful. Got
- 1:40Speaker 2: to get the swelling out. I don't know how he
- 1:42Speaker 2: was able to get through practice. He said friendly fire
- 1:45Speaker 2: during practice. So I don't, we don't know when it
- 1:48Speaker 2: was now. He did say, he said it was a
- 1:50Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago. He did not say this was
- 1:52Speaker 2: like recent, which is right. But he doesn't that raise,
- 1:55Speaker 2: raise a flag though. Like he was at practice. They
- 1:58Speaker 2: knew this happened and yet they still decided as long
- 2:02Speaker 2: as he's.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Met it, I get it. You're medically cleared to play.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Everybody fights through something, but if he looked that bad
- 2:07Speaker 1: in the game, he probably wasn't looking very good at practice.
- 2:09Speaker 3: That's my point.
- 2:10Speaker 2: And I know the new office coordinator is going to
- 2:14Speaker 2: call it down the middle, you know.
- 2:17Speaker 3: And all that. But, On your point, in fact, I
- 2:21Speaker 3: want to get to something you said on our show recently.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Did you not see him going to leave practice or
- 2:25Speaker 2: like he just gave up reps to Kendall in practice?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so it was the last practice before the final
- 2:31Speaker 1: preseason game against the Bengals. So that would have been
- 2:34Speaker 1: the final preseason game was Saturday, if I'm not mistaken, right?
- 2:37Speaker 1: So I think this was a Thursday. You get Friday
- 2:39Speaker 1: or Friday walkthrough, right? Thursday, it was a very light
- 2:42Speaker 1: practice because it was the final one. And they were
- 2:46Speaker 1: in shorts and shells, I believe. and at the end
- 2:48Speaker 1: of it, when they were doing team drills, the only
- 2:51Speaker 1: person on the first team in any spot, other than
- 2:55Speaker 1: wide receiver where they rotate a little bit, on the
- 2:57Speaker 1: offensive line coming out was Dickerson, who was trading places
- 3:01Speaker 1: with Kendall. Not 50-50, but I didn't chart. I don't
- 3:04Speaker 1: do that kind of thing with the offensive line, but
- 3:06Speaker 1: it was noticeable to me. I don't know how many
- 3:09Speaker 1: people made a big deal about it. I didn't see
- 3:11Speaker 1: too many people write it, but I did say it
- 3:13Speaker 1: that day we did a podcast that day or later
- 3:15Speaker 1: that I thought that that was interesting because it was
- 3:18Speaker 1: a light day. It was one of those days where
- 3:20Speaker 1: you've been through camp. You're starting to prepare for the
- 3:23Speaker 1: regular season, so you want your starters out there as
- 3:24Speaker 1: much as possible. I thought it was a little bit
- 3:27Speaker 1: of a red flag that he was coming out like that.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Now we know he may have suffered that knee injury
- 3:33Speaker 1: before that. And maybe he just wasn't feeling a hundred percent,
- 3:35Speaker 1: which again goes back to how confident were the Eagles
- 3:38Speaker 1: to put him out there on Sunday, knowing that he
- 3:41Speaker 1: really was not at peak mobility because even he said,
- 3:45Speaker 1: Adam in the WIP interview that he didn't want to
- 3:48Speaker 1: repeat of last year. He didn't want to go out there,
- 3:50Speaker 1: not at a hundred percent or having to fight through it,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but he did. And they enabled that.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 2: It's, Again, we don't know what he looked like in practice,
- 4:00Speaker 2: but as you said, it's hard to imagine.
- 4:04Speaker 3: He looked good enough.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Now, there's a saying in football, the elite players like Dickerson,
- 4:10Speaker 2: when they're healthy, well, even if they're at 70%, they're
- 4:13Speaker 2: probably better than 50% or 100% of the other guy, right?
- 4:15Speaker 1: Correct, correct.
- 4:17Speaker 3: It was painful.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I mean, when Greg said what he said, remember Cam Jurgens,
- 4:23Speaker 2: sometimes it was hard for him to bend over.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Talk to Bob. We were, we were looking at the
- 4:27Speaker 3: coaching tape last year. He just didn't look right. Right.
- 4:30Speaker 3: So Landon's an older 28 man. He's, you know, you
- 4:33Speaker 3: worry about.
- 4:33Speaker 2: This stuff and you know, hopefully after the four games
- 4:37Speaker 2: served on IR cause it's, it's games, not weeks. So
- 4:40Speaker 2: the games that he'll miss are obviously this one at Chicago,
- 4:44Speaker 2: the Monday nighter versus the Rams at home and at Shaxsville. Wow.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Wow.
- 4:50Speaker 2: That's, And then after that, you'll see, depending on when
- 4:54Speaker 2: the swelling goes down and hopefully blood flow is good
- 4:57Speaker 2: and all that.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Stuff in there. It's his right knee, by the way.
- 5:01Speaker 3: It's right knee.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Hopefully, for their sake, against Carolina at home and then
- 5:07Speaker 2: on the 26th of October, which would be week seven.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But until then, look, Kendall's been his backup the entire way.
- 5:17Speaker 2: You know, there's speculation they may change something else. Um,
- 5:22Speaker 2: if they did, I could tell you, this is the,
- 5:24Speaker 2: what we talked about this since he was drafted. We
- 5:26Speaker 2: could not find a team that thought he could play guard.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I literally asked a dozen people in personnel with other teams.
- 5:32Speaker 2: No one thought he could play guard. Now I know
- 5:33Speaker 2: he's put on 15 pounds of muscle. That doesn't guarantee
- 5:35Speaker 2: you that you're, you can play guard. You have the
- 5:37Speaker 2: body tip that you have. Um, if he's not going
- 5:40Speaker 2: to play guard, it means they don't think he's ready.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Cause it's, this is not a one week decision.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yes. Kendall is starting. It's for at least four weeks.
- 5:47Speaker 2: You're not going, you know what? We're just going to
- 5:49Speaker 2: start this week, Lampkin the other week. That's not the
- 5:50Speaker 2: way it works.
- 5:51Speaker 3: This isn't preseason.

- 7:39Speaker 1: really tried to concentrate on my physical health, my body,
- 7:43Speaker 1: making sure I'm putting the right things in and the
- 7:45Speaker 1: healthiest things in. I've always heard about creatine, but I
- 7:49Speaker 1: wasn't really sure about using creatine supplements until I did
- 7:52Speaker 1: the research to find out what it was really all about.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That's when I found Momentous, which created Signature Spec Creatine,
- 8:00Speaker 1: their most advanced creatine ever, setting a new standard for
- 8:04Speaker 1: creatine quality. It's one of the only creatines to be
- 8:07Speaker 1: manufactured in a pharmaceutical facility using reverse osmosis water purification
- 8:13Speaker 1: and verified through an expanded six-stage testing process with four
- 8:17Speaker 1: independent agencies. They've improved the product experience with ultra-fine powder
- 8:22Speaker 1: that mixes effortlessly with no grit or clumping. Hey, look,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I like a good creatine shake in the afternoon, and
- 8:29Speaker 1: it's got to taste good and be smooth. The benefits
- 8:32Speaker 1: of creatine are very real. It supports strength, power, lean
- 8:37Speaker 1: muscle growth, recovery, and even improve cognitive performance. And as
- 8:40Speaker 1: I get older, all of those things are so much
- 8:43Speaker 1: more important to me than they used to be. If
- 8:45Speaker 1: you want to try Momentous Signature Spec Creatine, head to livemomentous.com

- 9:06Speaker 1: I think it's very fair to wonder if they had
- 9:07Speaker 1: had a backup offensive lineman who they, who had a
- 9:12Speaker 1: couple of years in the league or was a really
- 9:14Speaker 1: high pick. Would they have gone to him already in
- 9:16Speaker 1: week one? I mean, I know they like Kendall and
- 9:19Speaker 1: they feel, but again, we're talking about guard, not center.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:22Speaker 1: And no, no NFL reps there, as opposed to in
- 9:26Speaker 1: the past, you know, a couple of years ago when
- 9:28Speaker 1: they drafted Landon Dickerson, they already had Brandon Brooks at
- 9:30Speaker 1: right guard and they had them. I'm sorry. Sam, I'll
- 9:33Speaker 1: write guard Brooks left guard or one of those combinations.
- 9:36Speaker 1: And then one of them got hurt and Dickerson immediately
- 9:39Speaker 1: went in because he was a high pick and they
- 9:41Speaker 1: knew he could play right away. And it was a
- 9:43Speaker 1: natural position for him. You do wonder if you're looking
- 9:46Speaker 1: here at Kendall and, Willie Lampkin next. Adam, if they
- 9:49Speaker 1: just thought, like you said, that even 50% of Dickerson
- 9:52Speaker 1: was going to be better than a healthier version of
- 9:55Speaker 1: somebody playing out of position.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Interesting note. I got the workouts this week. through Wednesday.
- 10:00Speaker 2: They haven't even worked anyone out. They worked the left-footed
- 10:04Speaker 2: punter just because they were facing Trestway. They just want
- 10:07Speaker 2: to see the spin off his foot. We've talked about this.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Brock Miller was the tryout punter for years. I think
- 10:14Speaker 2: he made like 50 grand at least from working out
- 10:15Speaker 2: for teams.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Good job if you can get it. Yeah, exactly.
- 10:19Speaker 2: But it shows the confidence they have in Lampkin because
- 10:23Speaker 2: Kendall now will start, okay, whether it's center or guard,
- 10:26Speaker 2: he's going to start. And Kendall now, I mean, Willie Lampkin,
- 10:29Speaker 2: that shows you the confidence they have in him because
- 10:32Speaker 2: he got cross-trained at guard and center.
- 10:33Speaker 3: And I give Howie credit. Now, obviously, he's got to
- 10:36Speaker 3: play well.
- 10:37Speaker 2: And he talked about this in his last press conference
- 10:39Speaker 2: about how, you know, if you shoot me up with
- 10:41Speaker 2: true serum, you know, we have to see what our
- 10:45Speaker 2: offensive line depth looks like. Because we were shocked when
- 10:48Speaker 2: he– didn't have a veteran on their defensive tackle group
- 10:52Speaker 2: from the defensive tackle group two years in a row.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Like that's never happens. Eagles don't see it like everybody
- 10:57Speaker 2: else does. It doesn't mean it has nothing to do
- 11:00Speaker 2: with the cap or cash, nothing. You could sign a
- 11:02Speaker 2: guy to a one year veteran minimum deal.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Okay. A guy like Michael Jordan, it just didn't work
- 11:06Speaker 3: out for Michael Jordan. That's my point. So they've got
- 11:08Speaker 3: more confidence in these young kids. Good for them.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Now, obviously they've got to prove how we, how we write.
- 11:14Speaker 2: And when Kendall starts, he's got to play well.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I would think that Howie might want to put
- 11:19Speaker 1: a veteran on the practice squad at this point now
- 11:22Speaker 1: just to have some moxie there, some guy who's played.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And I will say this, I thought about it a lot.
- 11:30Speaker 1: And I think that with guys like Jeffrey Simmons up,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you mentioned the Panthers, they have Derek Brown. And of course,
- 11:37Speaker 1: my gosh, in a couple of weeks, Aaron Donald. There
- 11:40Speaker 1: are some really good DTs here. Would I rather have
- 11:44Speaker 1: kendall making his first ever you know appearances in nfl
- 11:47Speaker 1: game at left guard a position that he's cross-trained at
- 11:51Speaker 1: but not necessarily experienced in as you mentioned not a
- 11:55Speaker 1: lot of people felt he could be a guard going
- 11:57Speaker 1: up against simmons or would i rather have him more
- 12:00Speaker 1: naturally at his center spot and then Juergens playing guard
- 12:04Speaker 1: where at least he has played before. And then Adam,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you get into some schematics of it. You know, if
- 12:09Speaker 1: you're a defense and you see this, you're going to
- 12:11Speaker 1: try to put some guys at the front of the line.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You're going to try to make the Eagles one-on-one block
- 12:16Speaker 1: at times, you know, five out, right? You're going to
- 12:18Speaker 1: put five, six guys in the line of scrimmage, and
- 12:20Speaker 1: then you're going to isolate those guys in one-on-one situation.
- 12:24Speaker 1: So you might again, feel more comfortable with guys playing
- 12:28Speaker 1: their more natural positions. So we'll see, we'll see what
- 12:31Speaker 1: they do. If we get a situation where Kendall plays
- 12:37Speaker 1: center and Juergens moves the guard, if that happens, that
- 12:41Speaker 1: is a deviation from what Stoutland used to believe and
- 12:46Speaker 1: what the organization believed, where you don't weaken two spots.
- 12:48Speaker 1: You just change one spot and next man up. This
- 12:51Speaker 1: is going to be a really fascinating decision facing them
- 12:54Speaker 1: this weekend.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yeah, by the way, the Jaguars, who, for those of
- 12:58Speaker 2: us who didn't think they could repeat last year's success,
- 13:00Speaker 2: I mean, it was the Browns week one.
- 13:01Speaker 3: We get that.
- 13:03Speaker 2: But you're talking about Devon Hamilton is.
- 13:05Speaker 3: A good player. And Eric Armstead, who's been in the
- 13:09Speaker 3: league forever. Heck, he played for Chip Kelly at Oregon.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So he's good.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Getting paid a lot of money. So, yeah, they've got
- 13:17Speaker 2: a tall task. They've got a tall task. There's no
- 13:19Speaker 2: question about it. Drew Kendall, they believed in him. He
- 13:24Speaker 2: had a great offseason. And we're going to see, we're
- 13:27Speaker 2: going to learn. We're going to learn a lot about him. Look,
- 13:29Speaker 2: there's no time like the present to learn about your
- 13:31Speaker 2: young players. If they're called upon, they've got to.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Do the job. And the veteran, there are plenty of, see,
- 13:36Speaker 3: here's the thing though.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I'm starting to put together my best available free agents
- 13:42Speaker 2: list overall in the league, but I'm looking for specifically
- 13:46Speaker 2: zone blocking. Guys, I have to ask. So I'll get
- 13:50Speaker 2: that list together. But in Michael Jordan, there's a reason
- 13:53Speaker 2: why he's been on so many teams. He just, he's,
- 13:57Speaker 2: I mean, he didn't, I mean, I was like, okay,
- 13:59Speaker 2: let's see if this guy could push.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Really never pushed. Lampkin and Kendall clearly beat him out.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Wasn't even close.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, for sure. He didn't. You're right. Where did
- 14:08Speaker 1: he play before? Was it Tampa that he, Jordan had played?
- 14:10Speaker 3: It was Tampa. Yeah. Cincy, Tampa, Carolina. I don't have
- 14:13Speaker 3: the whole list in front of me, but.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. No, you're right. You would, you would hope, again,
- 14:18Speaker 1: the state of offensive line play already isn't great. It's
- 14:22Speaker 1: gotten better across the NFL, but it's not great. But,
- 14:24Speaker 1: when you're picking up scraps of guys who are free agents, right. It's,
- 14:28Speaker 1: it doesn't matter if they played in Shanahan scheme or
- 14:31Speaker 1: McVay scheme, if they're not good, they're not good. Like
- 14:33Speaker 1: you gotta make sure you're bringing in someone who can,
- 14:35Speaker 1: who can still play and function at this level. But yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 1: you do, you do need to find that. It might be,
- 14:41Speaker 1: it might be helpful to poach a practice squad guy.
- 14:43Speaker 1: If you think that someone young there, that's where your
- 14:45Speaker 1: pro scouting department comes in handy. The Eagles have done
- 14:48Speaker 1: that in the past. They've, they've gotten a guy that
- 14:51Speaker 1: maybe like the public hasn't known, but, We might have
- 14:54Speaker 1: known because he's a day three guy or somebody that
- 14:57Speaker 1: came across us in discussing with scouts. But that's what
- 15:01Speaker 1: your post-scouting staff is for.
- 15:03Speaker 2: The only problem is, of course, when you sign a
- 15:04Speaker 2: guy off a practice squad, he has to go to 53.
- 15:07Speaker 2: And that's the thing. There's a saying in the NFL,
- 15:11Speaker 2: if he's on our 53, he can play. You've got
- 15:14Speaker 2: to be ultra sure about that because Lampkin really, really
- 15:19Speaker 2: developed rapidly over three weeks. First week, he wouldn't give
- 15:22Speaker 2: a chance to even be with the twos. And second week,
- 15:24Speaker 2: not really.
- 15:25Speaker 3: And then third week. Wow.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And he took off around with it. And then Kendall's
- 15:30Speaker 2: just been really good, but we'll learn a lot about, look.
- 15:34Speaker 3: It's Jeffrey Simmons. We get that.
- 15:35Speaker 2: They actually, we'll talk more about this in our pregame
- 15:37Speaker 2: show with Greg Cosell, but they brought on John Franklin Myers.
- 15:42Speaker 2: There's a good, I mean, he's a, he's an explosive,
- 15:44Speaker 2: good player paying a big time money by the board.
- 15:47Speaker 2: They overpay to bring him in. And it, They're running
- 15:51Speaker 2: a wide nine now. They moved from a 34 to 43.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I saw Jermaine Johnson, who was Salah's guy, with the Jets.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And they made that trade. They traded Devandre Sweat, which
- 16:02Speaker 2: is surprising. They felt like, as I understood it, they
- 16:06Speaker 2: didn't think he was good in the system because they
- 16:08Speaker 2: were going to change systems. So we'll see what happens.
- 16:10Speaker 2: But it's interesting. We don't talk a lot about– we'll
- 16:15Speaker 2: move on here. We just don't talk a lot about
- 16:17Speaker 2: the Eagles offensive line.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Other than, okay, are they healthy? Are they not healthy?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Are they not healthy? Well, Dirk said it wasn't. But
- 16:23Speaker 2: as good as Hurts looked, because we're getting a lot
- 16:25Speaker 2: of comments on YouTube, what are you talking about? Their
- 16:26Speaker 2: offensive sucked. You didn't listen to the show. We said
- 16:30Speaker 2: Hurts looked good. The passing game was fine. The running
- 16:31Speaker 2: game was atrocious.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:33Speaker 1: And you need the running game to have a better
- 16:35Speaker 1: passing game. If you don't have that, you're behind the sticks.
- 16:37Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 16:38Speaker 2: And they don't want to be a passing team. Greg
- 16:40Speaker 2: Cosell talked about it. He thought Barkley looked stiff.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Remember.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Barkley had 14 for 41 other than.
- 16:47Speaker 3: The 42-yard run. It was not good. It's only one game.
- 16:51Speaker 3: We're not condemning the running game, but it's concerning. It's concerning.
- 16:54Speaker 3: It starts with Barkley.
- 16:57Speaker 1: For sure. I did notice I watched a little bit
- 16:59Speaker 1: of Jets-Titans. We'll get into it. I mean, the Jets
- 17:01Speaker 1: had success running to the edges. The Eagles have not
- 17:04Speaker 1: had success lately. running that to the edges. I mean,
- 17:07Speaker 1: going back to last year, they didn't do it much,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but when they remember, we'd say, man, outside run, outside run.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And then they would have a few good ones against
- 17:14Speaker 1: the giants, like a bad D. And we think that
- 17:16Speaker 1: there were, that was going to be like, it's back,
- 17:18Speaker 1: it's there. And then it would just completely vanish and disappear. And, um,
- 17:22Speaker 1: they didn't have, they didn't have success running edges, uh,
- 17:25Speaker 1: against the commanders either. So, you know, every, I know
- 17:28Speaker 1: everybody's thinking at home, it's the Titans. They stink. They suck.
- 17:31Speaker 1: the Eagles should roll on them for 50. I remember
- 17:33Speaker 1: the Eagles rolled on the Raiders last year and everybody thought, Hey,
- 17:35Speaker 1: this is a great sign. And then they went back
- 17:37Speaker 1: to their old offense. So I, I'm just really curious.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And Adam, I think we really, what we really have
- 17:42Speaker 1: to discuss is this. All right. I you're right. I
- 17:45Speaker 1: do credit Howie for addressing the offensive line depth, drafting
- 17:50Speaker 1: Markel bell, you know, getting Willie Lampkin here last year. And,
- 17:54Speaker 1: and you saw a nice camp from him. And of course,
- 17:56Speaker 1: Drew Kendall is a guy we know they like, but
- 17:59Speaker 1: the reality of the situation is, it's you're going into
- 18:02Speaker 1: week two.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Okay.
- 18:05Speaker 1: You are now one toe stub or ankle twist from
- 18:08Speaker 1: your interior line away from having Kendall and Willie Lampkin
- 18:12Speaker 1: as starters. That's just the reality. You can't win like that.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I like these guys. They're good camp stories.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You got a murderous row. We just talked about of bears,
- 18:22Speaker 1: Rams and Jaguars three, four, five, but it doesn't matter
- 18:25Speaker 1: if you have to play a stretch where you're down
- 18:28Speaker 1: to offensive lineman. And by the way, Cam Juergens had
- 18:31Speaker 1: a couple of holes. It's not like Cam Juergens rocked
- 18:33Speaker 1: it on Sunday either. So I'm not, I'm not, people
- 18:37Speaker 1: are going to say negative. I'm just, I'm just saying, Hey, listen,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you gotta, you gotta understand you didn't want this week one.
- 18:43Speaker 1: You never want it, but this is too early in
- 18:45Speaker 1: the season to be reaching this deeply into your offensive line.
- 18:48Speaker 3: So one of the first things.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I learned, one of the first things I learned talking
- 18:51Speaker 2: to coaches over the years is they, they'd say, okay,
- 18:53Speaker 2: what's our answer. If this happens, you better have a
- 18:56Speaker 2: good answer. Now it's an interesting answer with these two
- 18:59Speaker 2: young guys, but you just don't know until they play.
- 19:01Speaker 2: That's okay. I mean, you gotta learn some point, but I,
- 19:04Speaker 2: to finish this off, it would behoove them to bring
- 19:06Speaker 2: in a veteran on the.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Practice squad who you think could fit.
- 19:10Speaker 2: If you're signing someone who's way better in gap than zone,
- 19:14Speaker 2: you don't fit.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:16Speaker 2: And unfortunately with Dickerson, we don't know if he's going
- 19:21Speaker 2: to fit. And I know there's some questions whether he
- 19:24Speaker 2: does fit. He's an immensely talented player, but he may
- 19:27Speaker 2: not be a great fit for this game. We know
- 19:29Speaker 2: Lane is, and we know just about everyone else is,
- 19:31Speaker 2: but we'll see on Dickerson.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see. The only other guy that like there
- 19:35Speaker 1: was some, you know, the old pop up thing is
- 19:37Speaker 1: that Cooper to Gene didn't practice on Wednesday. Now he's
- 19:40Speaker 1: already in the locker room. He told reporters he's going
- 19:43Speaker 1: to play. He took a strange hit early in the game.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Everybody saw him kind of reaching for his midsection. Then
- 19:48Speaker 1: he didn't have a particularly good game. We went through
- 19:51Speaker 1: that on Inside the Tape in the postgame show. So
- 19:55Speaker 1: we'll see. He's going to play, but, you know, it's
- 19:57Speaker 1: a– He says he's playing. Yes, that's a great point.
- 20:00Speaker 3: We've been burned when players say that over the years,
- 20:03Speaker 3: and I laugh. I go, man, why do we listen
- 20:04Speaker 3: to this?
- 20:05Speaker 1: Oh, dude, last week, Eli Stowers told reporters on Friday
- 20:10Speaker 1: he expects to play, and the next day he goes
- 20:13Speaker 1: on injured reserve.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I know.
- 20:16Speaker 2: But look, they know their own bodies, but if the
- 20:20Speaker 2: quad's bothering him and he gets testing and the imaging
- 20:23Speaker 2: shows that he's got a quad strain, that's a long,
- 20:26Speaker 2: depending on what grade it is, it's grade two that
- 20:28Speaker 2: you're talking about five or six weeks, man.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:31Speaker 3: You got to be careful with that, so.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Um anyway yeah so we'll talk we'll get back to
- 20:35Speaker 2: coop in a second but uh oh by the way
- 20:37Speaker 2: tennessee's pretty healthy they came out of the game pretty
- 20:40Speaker 2: healthy robert's all of us actually talking about that that
- 20:42Speaker 2: was one of the few good things from their game
- 20:44Speaker 2: they were awesome yeah they were bad.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Their new stadium their debut and they laid a major
- 20:49Speaker 3: egg major.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Egg i read uh i read that it's interesting people
- 20:53Speaker 1: think the philly media you know it goes uh or
- 20:57Speaker 1: out of bounds or really tough. I'm reading the questions
- 21:00Speaker 1: to Robert Sala after one game. One game they're asking
- 21:04Speaker 1: him questions like, what is your plan to fix this?
- 21:08Speaker 1: Is there a way to get to where you want
- 21:09Speaker 1: to be in this year? What do you think of
- 21:12Speaker 1: Cam Ward's post-game comments where he seemed almost indifferent? I mean,
- 21:17Speaker 1: they are raking everybody over the coals there after one game.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I mean, it's, you know what?
- 21:25Speaker 2: They treated Vrabel pretty well, and from what I understand
- 21:28Speaker 2: talking to the writers down there, they had a fairly
- 21:30Speaker 2: good relationship with him.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:34Speaker 2: It's a situation where they're in a total turnaround program.
- 21:36Speaker 2: The GM, Mike Berganzi, drafted Cam Ward. Ward struggled last season.
- 21:41Speaker 2: The word I got from people close to the team
- 21:43Speaker 2: was he tried to put the team on his back
- 21:46Speaker 2: because they had so little talent.
- 21:47Speaker 3: He just tried to be Superman. It didn't work. He
- 21:49Speaker 3: had a bad year.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Talented kid and very serious about football. Mm-hmm. trying to
- 21:54Speaker 2: camp one understand was very uneven and they added more players.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I mean, they, they added more players. We'll talk again,
- 22:00Speaker 2: you know, about that on, on our pregame show. But
- 22:04Speaker 2: how about this one though? This, this is insane. You're
- 22:06Speaker 2: getting absolutely destroyed. How does Calvin really not have a
- 22:10Speaker 2: pass target?
- 22:12Speaker 1: That's inexcusable.
- 22:13Speaker 3: I I'm a table fan as a play caller, not
- 22:15Speaker 3: as a head coach. Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I know Ridley is on the downside of his career,
- 22:18Speaker 2: but that's, he took a pickup, but my God, that, that,
- 22:21Speaker 2: and his guy Wendell Robinson wasn't really a factor.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Actually he had what second, most targets or most targets.
- 22:27Speaker 1: He just only, he led them with 38 yards.
- 22:30Speaker 3: He's a, he could be a, he's a gadget guy.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I know they, with the giants, he wouldn't be a
- 22:36Speaker 3: gadget guy.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Then he had the ACL injury, but he had a
- 22:38Speaker 2: great year last year, but I just see it. I
- 22:43Speaker 2: just see it as a game where, and I'm usually
- 22:46Speaker 2: wrong when I say to you, the team's going to
- 22:47Speaker 2: blow out another team.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Eagles left a lot of meat on the bone. That's
- 22:52Speaker 3: the Hertz, Hertz phrase.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Run game was not good. You just talked about it.
- 22:58Speaker 2: How they, they, the jets got after the hall at
- 23:01Speaker 2: a great game. I mean, Frank Reich, by the way,
- 23:03Speaker 2: how about that? That was a five, four time, five
- 23:06Speaker 2: time package.
- 23:06Speaker 1: What the hell was that? Well, dude, Frank Reich did
- 23:08Speaker 1: a bunch of things that surprise. I mean, he went
- 23:10Speaker 1: under center quite a bit. He gave a, a jet
- 23:13Speaker 1: motion sweep, the Kenyan Sadiq for a touchdown. I'm like, Whoa,
- 23:16Speaker 1: where is this? Ben Johnson.
- 23:21Speaker 3: You said he's Ben Johnson.
- 23:22Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it because he gets criticized, Frank Reich,
- 23:25Speaker 2: for being not a very good play caller.
- 23:27Speaker 3: I guess it's time away. He learned some stuff.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe he did the Howie thing where he just
- 23:31Speaker 1: went on sabbatical and asked a lot of people.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Wait, was he at Stanford? Where the hell was he
- 23:35Speaker 3: last year? Was he at Stanford? He was at Stanford, yeah.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Nobody loves grilling more than me. It could be 30
- 23:43Speaker 1: degrees and I'll be out there grilling burgers and steaks,
- 23:46Speaker 1: but the one thing that I really can't stand is
- 23:49Speaker 1: losing my fish and my veggies because they just can't
- 23:53Speaker 1: grill without falling through. That's why I've been using Hexclad's
- 23:56Speaker 1: BBQ Collection. It's bringing hybrid technology outdoors with products specifically
- 24:02Speaker 1: designed to make grilling easier, especially when you're cooking foods
- 24:06Speaker 1: that normally don't cooperate on a traditional grill. The Hexclad
- 24:10Speaker 1: BBQ Grill Plan combines the searing power of stainless steel,
- 24:14Speaker 1: durability of cast iron, and the convenience of nonstick, all
- 24:18Speaker 1: in one versatile grill pan. They've also launched their new
- 24:21Speaker 1: BBQ Grill Topper. That gives you even more control when
- 24:24Speaker 1: you're cooking delicate foods like veggies or seafood, or if
- 24:28Speaker 1: you're cooking multiple portions at one time. Last week, I
- 24:31Speaker 1: grilled the best surf and turf my style, which is
- 24:34Speaker 1: salmon and ribs, and lost none of it because I
- 24:37Speaker 1: used Hexclad's BBQ Collection. With over 1 million customers and
- 24:41Speaker 1: more than 50,000 five-star reviews. It's clear people love cooking
- 24:46Speaker 1: with Hexclad. There's a reason Gordon Ramsay uses Hexclad at
- 24:50Speaker 1: his home and in his restaurants, and he's the toughest
- 24:52Speaker 1: critic on the planet. So if you're planning on spending
- 24:55Speaker 1: time behind the grill this summer, don't make it harder
- 24:57Speaker 1: than it needs to be. Stop losing food through the
- 24:59Speaker 1: grates and upgrade your backyard cooking setup with Hexclad's BBQ collection.

- 25:21Speaker 1: I'm somebody who likes to work out. I get to
- 25:23Speaker 1: the gym at least three times a week. I try
- 25:26Speaker 1: to focus on certain muscle groups, my arms, my legs.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And it used to be really frustrating for me to
- 25:31Speaker 1: find jeans that fit someone like myself who likes to
- 25:35Speaker 1: work out. Sometimes those jeans can be awkward and tight
- 25:38Speaker 1: and you're sitting in a chair and you're constantly pulling
- 25:41Speaker 1: at your jeans, trying to get them to fit you.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Sometimes it feels like you have to buy jeans that
- 25:46Speaker 1: make you choose between your waist or your thighs. But thankfully,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I found the perfect jean. It's different from all other
- 25:54Speaker 1: jean companies, especially for guys with athletic builds. They actually
- 25:58Speaker 1: let me move like a normal human being. I can
- 26:00Speaker 1: bend down and tie my shoes. I can squat to
- 26:03Speaker 1: pick up something without feeling restricted. I can actually do
- 26:06Speaker 1: a full squat, you know, bending down to pick something
- 26:09Speaker 1: up without feeling like I'm about to blow a seam.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You know, the old standard jean sizing, it wasn't designed
- 26:15Speaker 1: to fit guys who squat or deadlift, play sports, or
- 26:18Speaker 1: just do anything that actually builds your legs. But the
- 26:20Speaker 1: Perfect Jeans is designed for just that, for guys like me.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Perfect Jeans has six fits. It includes the athletic fit,
- 26:28Speaker 1: the slim, the thick, and the thick thick. Specifically built
- 26:31Speaker 1: around the reality that legs and waists are Don't always
- 26:34Speaker 1: scale together. Right now, our listeners get 15% off their

- 26:49Speaker 1: 15% off first order, plus free shipping at theperfectgene.nyc or
- 26:54Speaker 1: just Google The Perfect Gene and use code BIRDS15 for
- 26:57Speaker 1: 15% off.
- 26:59Speaker 3: All right.
- 26:59Speaker 1: So, so, but the point is if Coop is banged up, right.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And if he's not playing well because of an injury
- 27:04Speaker 1: or whatever, you know, Robinson can route you up. Wandale
- 27:08Speaker 1: is a, is a decent slot receiver. So it would
- 27:11Speaker 1: just be, listen, you don't want, you just don't want
- 27:13Speaker 1: the Eagles in areas that they don't have great depth.
- 27:16Speaker 1: And we talked about secondary, if Coop's really banged up,
- 27:19Speaker 1: or if he tries to fight through and comes out,
- 27:20Speaker 1: then you're using Michael Carter jr. As your slot, most likely.
- 27:24Speaker 1: And then you have to then play, uh, Epps and
- 27:28Speaker 1: Makuba at safety the whole game. And Epps, didn't he
- 27:30Speaker 1: get– he got banged up in the first game, came
- 27:32Speaker 1: out a little bit. So, you know, I just– you know,
- 27:35Speaker 1: you just kind of wish the Eagles were a little healthier.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Now, I highly doubt they would do this because they
- 27:40Speaker 2: don't have good enough depth at safety. But Makuba, certainly
- 27:44Speaker 2: in emergency, could play nickel because he played nickel earlier
- 27:47Speaker 2: in his career at Clemson.
- 27:48Speaker 3: And then he moved to safety, so he can do it.
- 27:52Speaker 2: And he's got the ability to play inside.
- 27:55Speaker 3: There's no question about it.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Got it. All right, real quickly, let's discuss the pop-up injury.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Jalen Carter did not practice on Wednesday for a wrist.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Slightly concerning given the shoulders, but we'll just have to see.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I don't get really that concerned until it's like a
- 28:12Speaker 1: Thursday and a Friday, you know?
- 28:13Speaker 3: If it's not, it's long. Okay, first of all, it
- 28:16Speaker 3: wasn't a shoulder. That's huge. Right.
- 28:19Speaker 2: If I'm not mistaken, he decided to rehab them and
- 28:22Speaker 2: not get surgery, correct?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Uh, correct. He did not get surgery.
- 28:26Speaker 3: He rehabbed. Right. We know he had the shots, but
- 28:28Speaker 3: he didn't actually have surgery. Right. So arrest. Okay. We'll see.
- 28:33Speaker 2: You know, I, I guess a couple of fans said
- 28:35Speaker 2: they saw him shaking his hand. They said on our YouTube. I, I, okay.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I mean, they saw him like holding it like this, seeing,
- 28:42Speaker 2: cause I guess he hurt his wrist.
- 28:44Speaker 3: We don't know. I don't know which one it is,
- 28:46Speaker 3: but that's look, that's a problem.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:49Speaker 1: But, but we've seen with him in particular, we've seen
- 28:51Speaker 1: him a lot miss a Wednesday with something and then
- 28:55Speaker 1: be all right there by Friday. So again, we will
- 28:58Speaker 1: do the inside of the birds pregame show. It'll be out.
- 29:01Speaker 1: We'll have all the full injury report covered. I'm not
- 29:04Speaker 1: concerned there yet, but if he does not get back
- 29:07Speaker 1: to practice this week, we can talk, we'll talk about
- 29:08Speaker 1: on the pregame show.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Yeah. Thanks here. The one thing I want to say
- 29:13Speaker 3: about the gene is this is what's troubling. He doesn't
- 29:15Speaker 3: have one injury is two. Right.
- 29:17Speaker 1: It's the calf and the abdomen and the abdomen.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Now, did you say earlier that did you say, look,
- 29:24Speaker 3: you saw it. Did you see him?
- 29:25Speaker 1: That's where he took a hit.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:27Speaker 1: And you saw him holding his midsection. That's the abdomen.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I know reporters showed that he was wearing a brace
- 29:32Speaker 1: on his calf at practice on Wednesday. So we'll see.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I hate the calf injuries. You know, we talk about them.
- 29:38Speaker 1: They tend to linger. So. we'll have to see. Again,
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm not right. No five alarm fire yet. I want
- 29:43Speaker 1: to see how Thursday and Friday.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Oh, we got, you got Wednesday, you got Thursday and Friday,
- 29:47Speaker 2: but that's. Byron Young's the first up for Carter. Dajin,
- 29:51Speaker 2: we just talked about it. And Grenard was also limited
- 29:54Speaker 2: with his comeback from the pectoral strain.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:56Speaker 1: You were hoping he would make it to like. Full
- 29:59Speaker 1: this week.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Regression sometimes. Veterans, you start light. Thursday, you increase it.
- 30:07Speaker 2: They don't have to list how much they practice. It's
- 30:10Speaker 2: either limited, full, or don't DMP. That's the thing I hate.
- 30:14Speaker 2: That's another pet peeve of mine, the way the injury
- 30:16Speaker 2: reports are done.
- 30:17Speaker 3: But that's it. The good thing is no one else.
- 30:20Speaker 3: That is correct. Small list.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Obviously, three very important players. And we'll have more in
- 30:24Speaker 2: our next show and obviously in our pregame show.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Of course.
- 30:27Speaker 1: And we'll have you all the information, the tape breakdown, everything.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And if you haven't listened to the great shows so
