- 1:36Speaker 3: Honestly, I was walking around Soho in Manhattan when I
- 1:40Speaker 3: started to get tags from people and I looked at
- 1:43Speaker 3: my phone and one of the tags was my face
- 1:46Speaker 3: on their.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Television and I was like, what is going on?
- 1:49Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, such an exciting day. A huge thank
- 1:51Speaker 3: you to past Hurdle guest Yasmin Chayenne for throwing us
- 1:55Speaker 3: into the mix when it came to selecting their favorite

- 2:02Speaker 3: starting things off on the right foot. Anyway, I digress.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Lexi. It's all about Lexi. Today.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Lexi and I are talking about her crazy endeavors. I mean, yes,
- 2:12Speaker 3: this woman is a pro skier, but she has so
- 2:15Speaker 3: many other interests that made her.
- 2:18Speaker 2: One of the most interesting people to talk to.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Aside from making a name for herself in the skiing industry,
- 2:24Speaker 3: this woman has an affinity for so many different types
- 2:27Speaker 3: of movement and sport, ranging from hiking. We talk about
- 2:32Speaker 3: her climbing Mount Kilmanjaro too. Now she's actually a pilot,
- 2:36Speaker 3: and we talk about the big aspirations she has when
- 2:39Speaker 3: it comes to that.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Lexi is so insightful.
- 2:42Speaker 3: We have a really special conversation around the topic of
- 2:45Speaker 3: fear and she fills us in all about her wild
- 2:48Speaker 3: card spot on the Freeride World Tour, taking her some
- 2:51Speaker 3: really awesome places starting this month. A huge kudos to
- 2:55Speaker 3: Lexi for all of her accomplishments.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Thank you so much, girl for your time, and I'm
- 3:00Speaker 2: excited to bring this one to the feed.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Before we get into it today, I do want to

- 3:37Speaker 3: little bit of housekeeping here, I would love it if
- 3:39Speaker 3: you would call in and leave me a voice message
- 3:41Speaker 3: so that I can feature your voice and your question
- 3:45Speaker 3: on an upcoming episode of Five Minute Friday. So please,
- 3:49Speaker 3: I'm putting this call out to the masses. I want
- 3:51Speaker 3: your questions. I want to answer them. The link to
- 3:54Speaker 3: leave me a voice message is also in the show notes.
- 3:57Speaker 3: With that, let's get to hurdling.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Today.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I am sitting down with Lexi DuPont. She is a
- 4:15Speaker 3: pro skier. She also has some other cool things that
- 4:18Speaker 3: we can throw into the resume, but I'll let her
- 4:21Speaker 3: expand on those in just a little bit.
- 4:22Speaker 2: So Lexi, how do you do it today?
- 4:24Speaker 3: Oh?
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'm great, just up here in Canada watching the snow fall.
- 4:29Speaker 3: It's wonderful watching the snow fall. We haven't had a
- 4:32Speaker 3: lot of that here just yet. I'm in Brooklyn, not Canada,
- 4:36Speaker 3: but I feel like I kind of miss pre the
- 4:40Speaker 3: last two to three years when snow was a more
- 4:43Speaker 3: regular occurrence.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Oh man, yeah, well, New York. It's the holidays, right,
- 4:48Speaker 1: so you've got the New York holiday vibes. That's incredible.
- 4:51Speaker 2: They are very special.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I will say that speaking of snow, amazing time of
- 4:55Speaker 3: year for you to be getting out there. I'm sure
- 4:57Speaker 3: you said you just got back to Canada before we
- 4:59Speaker 3: hopped into the recording.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Yes.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I built a house up here in Revelstoke, British Columbia
- 5:04Speaker 1: and finished like twenty nineteen.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Had six months in my new home, and then COVID.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And so had to leave the country and I'm like, oh,
- 5:13Speaker 1: don't worry, friends, Like, I'll be back in a couple
- 5:16Speaker 1: of months. They can't keep the borders closed that long.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And fifteen months later made it back up to Canada
- 5:22Speaker 1: to my house. I had left with like a small
- 5:24Speaker 1: Duffel bag, my mountain bike and a surfboard, just you know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: to get me through this summer. And then all last winter,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm like, wow, all I'd have is bikini our bikinis
- 5:33Speaker 1: and like ankle socks. This isn't gonna work.
- 5:36Speaker 3: A small Duffel bag and a surfboard and a bikini.
- 5:39Speaker 3: It sounds like a pretty like idyllic way to live.
- 5:42Speaker 3: It also alludes to the fact that you don't just ski.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Have you always been a super active person?
- 5:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean my whole life.
- 5:51Speaker 1: My parents when I was younger really encouraged me to
- 5:53Speaker 1: try everything. So I was always doing you know, one
- 5:55Speaker 1: hundred different sports at once. And then once skiing, I
- 5:58Speaker 1: got really good at skiing and it was going well.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It was like, okay, this is taking up a lot
- 6:02Speaker 1: of my time. I kind of have to now pick
- 6:04Speaker 1: and choose which sports I want to do, and just
- 6:07Speaker 1: started dedicating most of my time to skiing. But yeah,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I mean winter is seasonal, right, so we do travel
- 6:13Speaker 1: and chase snow in the summertime, whether we go to
- 6:16Speaker 1: South America to Chile or Argentina or Australia New Zealand.
- 6:20Speaker 4: But that's you know, a couple of weeks.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And the rest of the time, it's like, I love surfing,
- 6:25Speaker 1: so surfing's become a big part of my life.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Mountain biking, the.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Mountainers have so much to offer in the summer, whether
- 6:32Speaker 1: it's rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking. And then my partner
- 6:35Speaker 1: actually lives in Kawai, so we're spending a lot of
- 6:38Speaker 1: time on the North Show over there surfing.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Wow, it's cool to talk to someone who did have
- 6:46Speaker 3: a super active upbringing like my parents. I feel like
- 6:49Speaker 3: I still am trying to encourage them to move more
- 6:52Speaker 3: regularly and like trying to find like little quick fixes
- 6:56Speaker 3: or like tools to get them to just get out there.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Whether that's like eyeing my mom a kayak for Christmas
- 7:01Speaker 3: or getting my dad a tonal.
- 7:03Speaker 2: So everyone's different.
- 7:05Speaker 3: But for you growing up in this like super active family,
- 7:08Speaker 3: what was it really like for you?
- 7:11Speaker 1: I mean it was amazing. That's what we did as
- 7:13Speaker 1: a family. We played outside.
- 7:14Speaker 4: You know.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It was like if you didn't want to come, then
- 7:16Speaker 1: you're you're home alone. And that wasn't fun. So they
- 7:19Speaker 1: didn't get as many options. It was like You're getting
- 7:21Speaker 1: in the car, We're going to the ski hill, We're
- 7:23Speaker 1: going backpacking, you know, we're doing these things.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Otherwise you're home alone. So yeah, and then recently.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I became a bush pilot, So I've been flying airplanes
- 7:32Speaker 1: and it's one of my It's just such an amazing
- 7:36Speaker 1: thing to be able to do. Like I find my
- 7:39Speaker 1: body is in line when I'm using my mind, body
- 7:41Speaker 1: and spirit together, and flying is definitely a huge mental part.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Like you, it's multicat tasking to the next level. So yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 1: my brain is growing with the flying aspect. And I
- 7:52Speaker 1: get to go to all these really cool places. And
- 7:55Speaker 1: there's so many backcountry landing strips in Idaho where we
- 7:58Speaker 1: are in the summertime and you go, you know, fly
- 8:00Speaker 1: into a little landing ship and go hot springing or
- 8:03Speaker 1: hiking or fly fishing or Yeah, it's mostly you know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: growing up in the mountains. I'd have to say, yes,
- 8:09Speaker 1: my family was a big part of it. But the
- 8:12Speaker 1: mountains themselves are so inspiring that you just can't help
- 8:16Speaker 1: but get out out in them.
- 8:17Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:17Speaker 3: It's it's so cool too, because I feel like when
- 8:20Speaker 3: you start at that young of an age, like the
- 8:22Speaker 3: great thing about kids in sports is like they don't
- 8:25Speaker 3: have a lot of the fears or like inhibitions that
- 8:28Speaker 3: adults might bring to them if they're like brand new
- 8:30Speaker 3: to any particular sport. So for you getting on skis
- 8:34Speaker 3: as such a young kid, that must have been such
- 8:38Speaker 3: a game changer for what you were able to do
- 8:40Speaker 3: coming of age.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Oh one hundred percent. I mean this. Kids are little sponges,
- 8:44Speaker 4: you know.
- 8:46Speaker 1: They say if you want to learn a language, like,
- 8:48Speaker 1: teach your kid a language at a young age because
- 8:49Speaker 1: they'll have it forever and their brains are just open
- 8:52Speaker 1: to it. But that's the same with skiing and sports
- 8:54Speaker 1: like skiing. I learned to ski when I was two
- 8:57Speaker 1: years old, and it like walking to me. You know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: it was like, not only was it so fun, but
- 9:04Speaker 1: it's kind of We were joking the other night at
- 9:06Speaker 1: dinner that the ski hills I had some of my
- 9:08Speaker 1: ski girlfriends over here. Have we've been friends forever? It
- 9:11Speaker 1: was like the ski hill was our first nanny, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: like mom and dad would drop us off and give
- 9:17Speaker 1: us ten bucks for lunch, and you just went and
- 9:19Speaker 1: played on the mountain all day. And that's that's where
- 9:22Speaker 1: all of our friends hung out. And so I'm just
- 9:25Speaker 1: so comfortable. It's second nature for me to slide down
- 9:27Speaker 1: mountains and down snow. I'm so appreciative of that that
- 9:31Speaker 1: my parents introduced me at a young age.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Do you as like most I'm sure every skier does,
- 9:37Speaker 3: like remembers the first time that they took like a
- 9:40Speaker 3: tumble that like really scared the hell out of them.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Do you remember yours?
- 9:46Speaker 1: Mine actually happened later in life. It was probably like
- 9:48Speaker 1: ten years ago. I mean, I'm sure I fell a
- 9:51Speaker 1: lot learning to ski, but they kind of disappeared because
- 9:54Speaker 1: I just remember the fun times, but yeah, it was
- 9:58Speaker 1: a while ago. Here in Revelstoke. Actually there's this kuar.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So a kupar is a strip of snow between two
- 10:05Speaker 1: rocks on either side, so you'll see like look at
- 10:07Speaker 1: a mountain, you'll see this like white line coming down,
- 10:10Speaker 1: so they're pretty narrow, right, And I was skiing down.
- 10:14Speaker 1: It's called the sickle because it kind of looks like
- 10:16Speaker 1: a you know, like a sickle knife.
- 10:19Speaker 4: And I was skiing down.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And like this, every turn you make, you kind of
- 10:24Speaker 1: start a little mini avalanche with you. Like it's not
- 10:27Speaker 1: gonna it just starts to pick up speed. It's just
- 10:30Speaker 1: smooth snow.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Moving with you.
- 10:31Speaker 1: But by the end there's so much of it, and
- 10:33Speaker 1: it just took me off my feet and I tumbled
- 10:37Speaker 1: a good like seven hundred feet down this mountain.
- 10:39Speaker 4: And we call it tomahawking.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Because it's basically like when you throw a tomahawk through
- 10:43Speaker 1: the air, it just spins, you know, head over butt
- 10:47Speaker 1: head over, butt over and over. And so tomahawking down
- 10:50Speaker 1: the mountain picking up speed, and I thought I knew
- 10:55Speaker 1: at the bottom there was this big cliff and I
- 10:57Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, I'm going over this cliff,
- 10:59Speaker 1: like this is gonna.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Be the end.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Like I had that near death moment, like the life
- 11:05Speaker 1: flashing before your eyes type of situation, and came to
- 11:08Speaker 1: a stop and just did like the whole body scan,
- 11:13Speaker 1: tapped my head like, took a deep breath, got the
- 11:16Speaker 1: snow out of my mouth, and was like I'm okay,
- 11:19Speaker 1: totally fine, Like not a single scratch on me, like
- 11:23Speaker 1: obviously like a little sore, but like nothing.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Yeah, very lucky. So that one stands out for sure. Wow.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Wow.
- 11:31Speaker 3: And when you like after you kind of like spit
- 11:33Speaker 3: the snow out of your mouth and like realize that
- 11:34Speaker 3: your physical body was still a thing, Like were you
- 11:38Speaker 3: picked up?
- 11:39Speaker 2: What happened with that?
- 11:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 11:41Speaker 1: So then after that we were filming, right, that's what
- 11:43Speaker 1: we do a lot with skiing, as we make these
- 11:45Speaker 1: ski films, And the filmer was on the opposite mountain,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and I got to watch the shot later and it
- 11:50Speaker 1: was pretty terrifying. But I also had my friend who
- 11:54Speaker 1: had up skied down before me, and he was tucked
- 11:56Speaker 1: up under the cliff, and so I just got on
- 11:59Speaker 1: the radio and I was like I'm okay and traverse,
- 12:03Speaker 1: so like skied horizontally across the mountain to this way
- 12:07Speaker 1: I could exit down and then the helicopter. We were
- 12:09Speaker 1: heally skiing, so the helicopter picked us up.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Wow, that's nuts.
- 12:14Speaker 3: And in skiing you are, you know, conquering so many
- 12:17Speaker 3: different mountains, but and a completely different side of the
- 12:21Speaker 3: coin here, you also have done insane things like climb them. Specifically,
- 12:26Speaker 3: I'm talking about you climbing Mount Kilmanjaro, So talk to
- 12:30Speaker 3: me about how that became something that was on your radar.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Well, Kilmnjaro specifically. I mean, we climb mountains all the time,
- 12:37Speaker 1: but Killy was a really special trip for me. I
- 12:41Speaker 1: just graduated high school and my younger sister and I
- 12:45Speaker 1: our parents really encouraged us if we wanted to travel,
- 12:48Speaker 1: like this is before my whole ski career really took off,
- 12:51Speaker 1: and they encouraged us if we wanted to travel, we
- 12:53Speaker 1: should volunteer in different places. So we went to Kenya
- 12:58Speaker 1: and volunteer in this orphanage at the base amount Kilimanjarro
- 13:02Speaker 1: Kilimandraw Kids Care is what it's called.
- 13:05Speaker 4: And we worked there for about a month and then.
- 13:08Speaker 1: We did put a fundraiser together of climbing the mountain,
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, ask people for donation to go to the
- 13:14Speaker 1: kids to the orphanage if we climbed the mountain to
- 13:17Speaker 1: the top. So it was me and my younger sister,
- 13:19Speaker 1: Mattie and her best friend Emmy O'Reilly. They were still
- 13:21Speaker 1: in high school at the time. I had just graduated,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and we went down to Africa for a month and
- 13:27Speaker 1: Kilimandraw was so special. I'm trying to remember the date
- 13:30Speaker 1: on this must have been two thousand and seven. And
- 13:33Speaker 1: so there's still a decent amount of snow on the top.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I've heard it's taken a pretty big plunge and has
- 13:37Speaker 1: melted quite significantly. But what's so special about Kilimanjarw is
- 13:41Speaker 1: you go through all these different climates on the way up.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Every single climate I think that is in the world
- 13:47Speaker 1: is on Kilimanjau on the mountain.
- 13:49Speaker 4: I could be off on that, but I know that
- 13:51Speaker 4: it's a ridiculous.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Amount of I won't judge you for it.
- 13:53Speaker 4: You yah climates that you go through.
- 13:55Speaker 1: It's like you start in the muddy jungle and then
- 13:58Speaker 1: you get up into like kind of some like sparser
- 14:01Speaker 1: trees and then it's almost like this arid desert for
- 14:04Speaker 1: a little bit, and then it goes into like lava rocks,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and then into winter and snow on the top.
- 14:09Speaker 2: No big deal.
- 14:10Speaker 4: It's very cool.
- 14:11Speaker 3: It's like I have trouble like packing for like a
- 14:13Speaker 3: weekend in one climate, and you're like, all right, let's
- 14:16Speaker 3: experience every single climate ever and we'll carry all the
- 14:18Speaker 3: things that we need on our back.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, layering, you just layer it. You would do so,
- 14:23Speaker 4: you would do so well.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I mean, you're a killer athlete with all of your accomplishments.
- 14:28Speaker 4: You'd run up that thing with.
- 14:29Speaker 2: No, you're so sweet, You're so sweet.
- 14:33Speaker 3: But I'm sure that experience was just once in a lifetime,
- 14:36Speaker 3: especially being able to go with so many people that
- 14:39Speaker 3: mattered so much to you.
- 14:40Speaker 1: It is so special, incredible, And I just remember, like
- 14:43Speaker 1: you get to the top at sunrise and the sun
- 14:46Speaker 1: is rising behind and you're looking over and you can
- 14:49Speaker 1: see the shadow of Kilimanjaro like over Tanzania, just taking
- 14:54Speaker 1: over the whole country, you know. And then as the
- 14:57Speaker 1: sun comes up, the shadow kind of follows up with
- 14:59Speaker 1: the mountain and you have to be on really high
- 15:02Speaker 1: peaks to get the sunrise shadow.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So dope, so dope.
- 15:06Speaker 3: So you said this precursing a few years before you
- 15:09Speaker 3: really started skiing super competitively. Talk to me about when
- 15:12Speaker 3: you knew that skiing at that next level was going
- 15:16Speaker 3: to be something that you really wanted to do.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, okay, that's a great question. So I
- 15:23Speaker 1: graduated from school in Sun.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Valley, Idaho. I moved out.
- 15:27Speaker 1: To my freshman year of college, went to Endocott College
- 15:30Speaker 1: in Beverly, Massachusetts. I had a scholarship for sailing to
- 15:34Speaker 1: be a pro sailor and full ride for the sailing team,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and I was like, all right, let's give this a shot,
- 15:40Speaker 1: and really just missed winter, you know, and the snow
- 15:45Speaker 1: and the mountains mostly like the East Coast. Don't get
- 15:47Speaker 1: me wrong, great skiing, but compared to where I grew up,
- 15:51Speaker 1: the mountains were just a little bit smaller and snow
- 15:54Speaker 1: was a little less consistent. And so I like went
- 15:56Speaker 1: to all these different ski hills and just tried to
- 15:58Speaker 1: explore as many as I put on the East Coast,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and eventually it was like, Okay, I need to be
- 16:02Speaker 1: back in like real winter. So I transferred to the
- 16:05Speaker 1: University of Colorado Boulder, and one of my best friends
- 16:08Speaker 1: from high school was going to school there, and we
- 16:11Speaker 1: had ski race together in high school, and she was like, LEXI,
- 16:14Speaker 1: you got to come to these contests like they're super
- 16:17Speaker 1: rat It's the Three Ride World Tour and they've got
- 16:20Speaker 1: these different qualifiers and you literally just ski down the
- 16:23Speaker 1: mountain and they judge you and you have the best time.
- 16:24Speaker 4: And I was like, all right, let's go.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So we go to Tell Your Ride Colorado where the
- 16:29Speaker 1: first contest was, and there's this really beautiful peak called
- 16:32Speaker 1: Palmyra Peak right off the back of Tell Your Ride
- 16:35Speaker 1: and we hiked to the top of it for the
- 16:37Speaker 1: contest and skied down and I ended up getting third
- 16:40Speaker 1: place and podium on like my first contest, and I
- 16:42Speaker 1: was like, they gave me this big check, you know,
- 16:44Speaker 1: like the ones you see like they hold above their heads. Yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and I was like, this is so much cooler than
- 16:49Speaker 1: ski racing and I'm super.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Down with this, Like let's go. So after that, just
- 16:56Speaker 4: joined the tour.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And then I started realizing that I was missing a
- 16:59Speaker 1: lot of clubs at the University of Colorado because we
- 17:01Speaker 1: had to travel for all these contests.
- 17:03Speaker 4: So I did one.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Full year at Colorado are Boulder and then decided to
- 17:08Speaker 1: just do summer school. So I was on the six
- 17:12Speaker 1: year prop program at Bolder, going to school in the
- 17:15Speaker 1: summer and skiing all winter long. But I finished school
- 17:18Speaker 1: and came out with a solid ski career at the
- 17:21Speaker 1: same time.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Wow, And did you carry with you like any fear
- 17:25Speaker 3: when it came to entering those competitions. I chuckled when
- 17:28Speaker 3: you were like, and all they're going to do is
- 17:29Speaker 3: judge you, Like, did that ever make you a little
- 17:32Speaker 3: bit anxious?
- 17:33Speaker 4: Oh? For sure.
- 17:34Speaker 1: So my mom she was a professional skier. She was
- 17:37Speaker 1: the first woman to do a backflip on skis. Actually
- 17:39Speaker 1: she was back in the seventies, like those awesome photos
- 17:43Speaker 1: of people doing huck and backflips. And so I had
- 17:46Speaker 1: never been in a judged contest before. I was always this,
- 17:49Speaker 1: you know, a racer, and the time is very honest,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and the judging is up for interpretation. So my mom
- 17:56Speaker 1: she's like, LEXI, you got to put on these pants.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And there were her old Moguls pants. So they're bright
- 18:02Speaker 1: pink with stars on the butt and these orange circles
- 18:05Speaker 1: around the knees. And she's like, this is so they'll
- 18:08Speaker 1: notice you, and you'll they'll be able to see you
- 18:10Speaker 1: if you wear the bright pink pants. And you also
- 18:12Speaker 1: need to go down to the judges and introduce yourself
- 18:15Speaker 1: so they know your name before the contest. So I
- 18:18Speaker 1: go down and I introduce myself and I've got these
- 18:20Speaker 1: pants on, these freestyle pants. These are like not the
- 18:23Speaker 1: trend in the big mountain world, Like I was standing
- 18:26Speaker 1: out so gnarly.
- 18:28Speaker 4: And they're like, oh, well, nice to meet you, Lexi.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And then once I'm like dropping in, they have a
- 18:34Speaker 1: loud speaker and they're like dropping in off the top
- 18:36Speaker 1: from some valley, Idaho is little Miss hot Pants. That
- 18:41Speaker 1: was my name for years on the tour was little
- 18:43Speaker 1: Miss hot Pants.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Oh man, and your mom thinking she's setting you up
- 18:46Speaker 3: here for success and you're like, thanks for the nickname, mom,
- 18:50Speaker 3: thank you, Oh my god, but talk about big shoes
- 18:53Speaker 3: to Phil right, did your parents feel some kind of way,
- 18:57Speaker 3: like positively encouraging you super sue this like career path
- 19:02Speaker 3: or did they just really were they just on the
- 19:04Speaker 3: mindset like whatever makes you happy is whatever we're stoked for.
- 19:07Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
- 19:08Speaker 1: It's like they just want me to be happy. And
- 19:11Speaker 1: I know that competing definitely makes them a little nervous.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Like my mom used to come to the contest and
- 19:16Speaker 1: just like hold close your eyes at the bottom. But
- 19:19Speaker 1: then she was like so happy when I got made
- 19:21Speaker 1: it down safely. But they had an intervention a little
- 19:25Speaker 1: bit like years ago where they're like, Lexy, we don't
- 19:28Speaker 1: want you to go to Alaska anymore and see these
- 19:31Speaker 1: big lines like you're okay if you just stay here.
- 19:33Speaker 1: We just want you to know like this isn't coming
- 19:35Speaker 1: from us, this is you and if you're happy, you
- 19:38Speaker 1: do it, but like no pressure.
- 19:39Speaker 4: So that was really nice to have that support.
- 19:42Speaker 3: That was really nice to not feel like you had
- 19:44Speaker 3: to just keep topping yourself. But I feel like also
- 19:46Speaker 3: like that's kind of human nature, right, whether or not
- 19:49Speaker 3: it was the influence from your parents. Once we conquer
- 19:53Speaker 3: one hurdles, so to speak, we're always like hunting for
- 19:56Speaker 3: the next thing to do.
- 19:58Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I think that's why, you know, that's innately human is
- 20:02Speaker 1: to keep striving and searching and bettering ourselves. And I
- 20:07Speaker 1: also think it's a beautiful part about being human is
- 20:09Speaker 1: that we can constantly adapt and grow and learn new
- 20:12Speaker 1: things and every single day and that's really what inspires me.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I recently this fall actually just got invited as the
- 20:20Speaker 1: wild card on the Free Ride World Tour.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Again. I thought I was.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Done competing, and then they just called me out of
- 20:25Speaker 1: the blue, invited me. And now the tour has changed
- 20:28Speaker 1: significantly from when I was doing it ten years ago.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And I've been talking to a mental coach actually to
- 20:34Speaker 1: like get my mind back in the competitive mind state,
- 20:37Speaker 1: and it's been so profound. We've only had a couple
- 20:40Speaker 1: meetings so far. The first contest. We leave for Spain
- 20:43Speaker 1: on January fourteenth, so it's coming up. But it's basically like,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I don't know, sometimes you get into your head or
- 20:50Speaker 1: like you have this voice of self doubt or insecurities
- 20:53Speaker 1: and someone's like talking it's I didn't know it was
- 20:56Speaker 1: a specific voice, but now after practice, I'm identifying her
- 20:59Speaker 1: and I call her La La, and she comes in
- 21:02Speaker 1: and and she's like talking to me in this voice.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I I'm like, Okay, Laala, I see you. But here's
- 21:08Speaker 1: a better way of doing it. Instead of feeling insecure
- 21:11Speaker 1: about these things, here's a better, better way. And for me,
- 21:15Speaker 1: the two words that I'm trying to harness throughout the
- 21:17Speaker 1: season is abundance and confidence. So that feeling of abundance
- 21:22Speaker 1: of like gratitude and love for everything around you. The
- 21:25Speaker 1: sun hitting your face, the snow falling, the people that
- 21:28Speaker 1: you love, like just full gratitude of abundance.
- 21:31Speaker 4: And then the confidence is.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Like, badass, bitch, I've got this, you know, like shoulders back,
- 21:37Speaker 1: head up, like I've got this.
- 21:39Speaker 3: You know, I'm gonna start saying to myself every morning, badass.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Bitch, you've got this, You've got this.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I'm just gonna start literally staring myself in the mirror
- 21:49Speaker 3: and using Lexi DuPont's affirmations.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you. Yeah, it don't work. I mean it's
- 21:54Speaker 4: so good.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It's it's like I even feel it my spine, like
- 21:57Speaker 1: I sit up taller, and like when I think of
- 21:59Speaker 1: some of the most inspiring women in my life or
- 22:02Speaker 1: people that I haven't even met, and I idolize like
- 22:05Speaker 1: they move with such confidence. And it's not this like bossy, mean,
- 22:11Speaker 1: like rude confidence. It's like it's it's love. It's like
- 22:16Speaker 1: love just beaming out of them because they love themselves
- 22:19Speaker 1: and they love where they are in their lives.
- 22:21Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I actually I love that. I love two things
- 22:25Speaker 3: about that. One, you having like inspiring women both that
- 22:29Speaker 3: you've met and that you haven't met, and that you've
- 22:31Speaker 3: in your own time and your own self work. Like
- 22:34Speaker 3: you've taken time to articulate who they are. But I
- 22:36Speaker 3: love that you've also been able to identify like a
- 22:39Speaker 3: common characteristic of these people that you admire, because I
- 22:42Speaker 3: think that that is such a helpful exercise because it
- 22:45Speaker 3: also guides you on who you want to be and
- 22:49Speaker 3: the values that you're trying to emulate in your day
- 22:51Speaker 3: to day hundred percent.
- 22:52Speaker 1: And it almost gives you this visual picture, right You've
- 22:55Speaker 1: seen different things that they've done in their little instances
- 22:58Speaker 1: and then I can like easily grab that picture of
- 23:01Speaker 1: that person to help me in those high stress moments.
- 23:03Speaker 1: So that I mean, that's the mental coaching is really
- 23:08Speaker 1: practicing these tools in the day to day so when
- 23:11Speaker 1: you are in that.
- 23:11Speaker 4: High stress situation, it just comes instinctively.
- 23:14Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, you have to tell us now, who's
- 23:16Speaker 3: some of the inspiring women that you look up to are. Oh,
- 23:21Speaker 3: it was coming, like you brought it to the fore time.
- 23:23Speaker 3: I was like, you're seeing this up for me. I'm
- 23:25Speaker 3: attire Wood's this for you now.
- 23:27Speaker 4: I set myself up.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I mean my mom for sure is like she's always
- 23:33Speaker 1: been such an inspiring woman. Mother nature is like a
- 23:37Speaker 1: big one but Pancho, Mama Mama Earth is the most
- 23:41Speaker 1: grounding inspiring female.
- 23:43Speaker 2: We have talk me through that one.
- 23:46Speaker 1: She's the resilience, the perseverance, the beauty and everything the
- 23:52Speaker 1: like the time we take things so seriously and such
- 23:55Speaker 1: like thinking that everything's drastic right now. But like Mother
- 23:58Speaker 1: Earth that takes as much time as she wants, Like
- 24:01Speaker 1: she's gentle with herself and she heals herself and time
- 24:04Speaker 1: doesn't really affect her in that.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Same way that affects us.
- 24:08Speaker 1: So that's like zoom out of like we're all kind
- 24:10Speaker 1: of these tiny little specks on this planet spinning through Earth. Like,
- 24:14Speaker 1: don't take yourself so seriously and realize that it is fragile.
- 24:18Speaker 1: It is like a small moment in time that we
- 24:22Speaker 1: get to experience it.
- 24:23Speaker 4: So love it up.
- 24:25Speaker 3: You know, having such a strong relationship with your family,
- 24:28Speaker 3: Tell me a little bit about what it was like
- 24:31Speaker 3: when you really started to travel a lot to continue
- 24:35Speaker 3: and excel in your career.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean at first, well, when I was first
- 24:38Speaker 1: starting to compete, my mom had to come with me
- 24:40Speaker 1: because I could rent a car on my own, you know,
- 24:43Speaker 1: so she was always there, and then there was always
- 24:46Speaker 1: some homesickness when you're traveling a lot. But we're all
- 24:49Speaker 1: so close. We FaceTime regularly, we chat all the time.
- 24:52Speaker 1: And now it's travel has become such a big part
- 24:55Speaker 1: of my life. I'm literally like, I haven't unpacked my
- 24:58Speaker 1: like toiletry kit probably five years. It's it's like because
- 25:02Speaker 1: if I unpack it, it's like three days later, I'm
- 25:04Speaker 1: taking it to go again.
- 25:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I have washed it, which is good.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Wait, but okay, I have a few staples that come
- 25:12Speaker 3: with me no matter where I travel.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Do you have those two? And if so, what are they?
- 25:18Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I want to hear your yours too.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Okay, you go first.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Okay, So I'm a Crystal gal. I'm gonna put it
- 25:25Speaker 1: out there. I'm a Crystal gal. I'm like, I also
- 25:27Speaker 1: have like some Polisanto when you're sleeping in these crazy
- 25:30Speaker 1: hotels all the time, Like I need to save that shit,
- 25:32Speaker 1: you know, I don't know who's been in there. And
- 25:34Speaker 1: then Crystal by my bed, I always have a good
- 25:37Speaker 1: book and a journal. I've got these little packing dividers
- 25:41Speaker 1: that are like my drawers, and they're like little zipper
- 25:43Speaker 1: pouches because when you're living out of a suitcase, it's
- 25:46Speaker 1: like you have all your T shirts in one bag.
- 25:48Speaker 1: You got to stay a little organized, or like things
- 25:50Speaker 1: can get out of hand really quickly. A good face
- 25:52Speaker 1: cream and like lip moisturizer.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I feel all of this.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I mean it's so funny because you like started off
- 25:59Speaker 3: with like your crystals and your Palo Santo and I'm like,
- 26:02Speaker 3: so mine starts with R and Co Dry shampoo and
- 26:05Speaker 3: then Sephora Wives And You're like, I need all these
- 26:09Speaker 3: things to cleanse my space. And I'm like, I just
- 26:11Speaker 3: really need to manage my sweat on a regular daily basis.
- 26:16Speaker 3: But I feel you on having like these specific travel
- 26:19Speaker 3: to go pouch that you put your stuff in that
- 26:21Speaker 3: is also washable, and you know, the packing cubes are
- 26:24Speaker 3: game changers.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Game changers. The drawers, Yeah, drawers in your bag for sure.
- 26:30Speaker 3: So have you always been I mean you obviously as
- 26:32Speaker 3: we said here mentioned Palo Santo and your crystals. Have
- 26:35Speaker 3: you always been someone who is I would say, like
- 26:38Speaker 3: spiritual in that way?
- 26:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know if.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It was like when I was I don't think when
- 26:41Speaker 1: I was really young it really came around. I think
- 26:44Speaker 1: just being in nature all the time, like we say,
- 26:47Speaker 1: you know, worshiping God, but it's the great outdoors and
- 26:51Speaker 1: it's like being outside all the time, and our worship
- 26:54Speaker 1: with our skiing is a spiritual act. And I think
- 26:56Speaker 1: when you talk to a lot of outdoor athletes, like
- 26:59Speaker 1: they want to admit it or not, they have a
- 27:02Speaker 1: deep connection to Mother Earth and it's a spiritual thing
- 27:06Speaker 1: that you're doing out there when you're when we're skieing
- 27:09Speaker 1: these mountains, like we're in the back country so much
- 27:11Speaker 1: so it's not like you have a ski patrol or
- 27:14Speaker 1: someone mitigating the avalanche hazards, Like that's all on us.
- 27:18Speaker 1: And there's so much that we dive into with like
- 27:21Speaker 1: the snow science. We're constantly learning about how avalanches work
- 27:25Speaker 1: and the risk management, how to you know, wilderness first
- 27:29Speaker 1: aid safety. But there's also this like this other element
- 27:34Speaker 1: that can't really be we can't really talk about it
- 27:37Speaker 1: or quantify it, but it's the connection that you have
- 27:39Speaker 1: with Mother Earth and like the asking for permission and
- 27:43Speaker 1: the respect to be able to go do what we
- 27:45Speaker 1: enjoy to do and play within her mountains, you know.
- 27:48Speaker 4: So yeah, I think that is pretty spiritual.
- 27:51Speaker 3: When you mentioned you started traveling and your mom would
- 27:54Speaker 3: come along with you, obviously, time went on, you got
- 27:57Speaker 3: to be old enough to drive yourself. What were some
- 27:59Speaker 3: of the first trips that you took on your own
- 28:02Speaker 3: that really.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Kind of blew your mind and gave you a new
- 28:05Speaker 2: appreciation for your sport.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Oh gosh, yeah, that's an awesome one.
- 28:09Speaker 1: So literally the same year that I started competing, I
- 28:13Speaker 1: got picked up by Eddie Bower and K two still
- 28:15Speaker 1: my sponsors that have been with me from the very start.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Love them shout.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Out, but they were like, hey, Lexi, there's this awesome
- 28:25Speaker 1: trip with Warren Miller, this legendary filmmaker, and they want
- 28:29Speaker 1: you to go to Svalbard, Norway, which is the island.
- 28:32Speaker 1: It's the furthest north you can ski, so it's four
- 28:35Speaker 1: hundred miles south of the North Pole. You're gonna They're like,
- 28:38Speaker 1: you're gonna camp on a glacier, on a fjord and
- 28:40Speaker 1: a glacier for two weeks. And here's all the gear,
- 28:44Speaker 1: these awesome down suits, Like the high will be minus
- 28:47Speaker 1: twenty degrees fahrenheit. You're gonna have to carry a little
- 28:52Speaker 1: flare gun on your ankle for the polar bears because
- 28:55Speaker 1: when you go to the bathroom, like they might come
- 28:57Speaker 1: get you and so I was like, all right, like
- 29:00Speaker 1: this is what we're doing. And they're like, oh, and
- 29:01Speaker 1: by the way, you're the only girl and you're with
- 29:04Speaker 1: all dudes and they're all forty years old or over,
- 29:07Speaker 1: and I was I think I was like nineteen at
- 29:09Speaker 1: the time. On this trip, I had done a little
- 29:12Speaker 1: bit of winter camping, but not like two weeks like
- 29:15Speaker 1: in the North Pole, you know what I mean. So
- 29:19Speaker 1: that one was very adventure. That one was like, can
- 29:22Speaker 1: I use a sat phone to call my mom, because
- 29:24Speaker 1: like I'm just gonna pull my goggles down and cry
- 29:27Speaker 1: right now if I don't get to talk to her.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I cannot even imagine the next level
- 29:32Speaker 3: amount of cold. Like this morning, I was holding a
- 29:35Speaker 3: coffee cup walking to Fort Green Park and I said
- 29:37Speaker 3: to myself, I shouldn't have brought coffee because my hand
- 29:41Speaker 3: is freezing. Meanwhile, you are like needing to like keep
- 29:44Speaker 3: your goggles on for fear of actually like get catching
- 29:47Speaker 3: frost bite instantaneously in the eye region.
- 29:51Speaker 4: That's true. It was a reezing Oh my.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I think now if I were to do that trip now,
- 29:56Speaker 1: you know, years later, I would have so much more
- 29:59Speaker 1: respect for the whole experience.
- 30:02Speaker 4: But at the time it was like I was just suffering. Yeah, like,
- 30:05Speaker 4: what are we doing here?
- 30:12Speaker 3: Taking a break from today's episode to give some love
- 30:15Speaker 3: to my sponsors.
- 30:16Speaker 2: First up, Gooder.

- 32:05Speaker 3: Vitamin and mineral and like supplement routine was all over
- 32:09Speaker 3: the place. I finally feel like I'm taking ownership over
- 32:13Speaker 3: my health, over my body, and this really helps me

- 34:42Speaker 3: Com slash hurdle Pod.
- 34:52Speaker 2: It's so interesting.
- 34:52Speaker 3: I mean, that's actually a really interesting thing that you said,
- 34:54Speaker 3: because I feel that way about some of the trips
- 34:56Speaker 3: that I went on when I was younger too. Granted,
- 34:58Speaker 3: like I wasn't like skiing peaks like four hundred miles
- 35:01Speaker 3: south of the North Pole, but like I even went
- 35:03Speaker 3: to Israel when I was in college, and looking back
- 35:06Speaker 3: on that trip that I took when I was nineteen,
- 35:08Speaker 3: I almost wish that I had waited until I had
- 35:11Speaker 3: a greater understanding for everything from like the political climate
- 35:15Speaker 3: to the lands that I was seeing.
- 35:16Speaker 4: No one you can't replicate it, you know.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and when you're younger sometimes we might take a
- 35:21Speaker 1: little bit of an advantage of like, oh this is
- 35:23Speaker 1: I'll do this trip again or well, and just with
- 35:26Speaker 1: the winter camping, it was like now I'd be so
- 35:28Speaker 1: much more prepared for that whole situation, but at the
- 35:31Speaker 1: time it was like just be cool, stay warm, and
- 35:36Speaker 1: like get this thing done, like get it over with.
- 35:40Speaker 3: And that's so cool, right, because again, your first trip,
- 35:43Speaker 3: what an unbelievable experience, and I'm sure that was a
- 35:46Speaker 3: great introduction. It was a great introduction to what was
- 35:48Speaker 3: coming next. We were shooting on.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Film too, like it wasn't digital, like the guys in
- 35:53Speaker 1: the black bag with his hands like in the Freezing
- 35:55Speaker 1: Changing film as polar bears are walking towards us, and
- 35:59Speaker 1: we saw the polar bears. But from that until now,
- 36:02Speaker 1: it's like going from being in these awesome films to
- 36:05Speaker 1: then realizing that I wanted to use my creative voice
- 36:08Speaker 1: to be able to create some of my own content
- 36:11Speaker 1: owned films. So I've made a few and you know,
- 36:14Speaker 1: being the producer, the director, all of the levels that
- 36:17Speaker 1: goes into making your own piece. So I did that
- 36:19Speaker 1: for a while and then now going back into the
- 36:21Speaker 1: film and I honestly never thought that I'd be competing again,
- 36:24Speaker 1: and here I am going back on the free Ride
- 36:26Speaker 1: World tour. So it's like just being prepared for anything
- 36:30Speaker 1: and we're seeing it's like these storms they come, you
- 36:34Speaker 1: get like forty eight hour notice and you got to go.
- 36:36Speaker 4: It's like very quick.
- 36:38Speaker 1: So just rolling with the punches, being adapt being able
- 36:41Speaker 1: to adapt at any moment has been I think one
- 36:45Speaker 1: of the greatest highs and lessons from this whole experience.
- 36:48Speaker 3: What an interesting analogy about like the storm being such
- 36:52Speaker 3: like an integral part of your entire process. Without the storm,
- 36:56Speaker 3: you can't arguablead to a lot of the stuff that
- 36:59Speaker 3: you hoped to do, and the conditions are better after
- 37:02Speaker 3: the storm. Wow, there's like so many like metaphors that
- 37:05Speaker 3: I could like really bring into the mix here. But
- 37:07Speaker 3: at first, when you started chasing these storms, I'm sure
- 37:11Speaker 3: there had to be like a certain level of anxiety
- 37:15Speaker 3: or nervousness that went hand in hand going into so
- 37:18Speaker 3: much unknown.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Oh gosh, yeah, I mean it's like the greatest unknown.
- 37:21Speaker 1: My whole life revolves around the weather. It's like every
- 37:24Speaker 1: morning I get up and I look at like global
- 37:27Speaker 1: weather of where these storms are happening.
- 37:29Speaker 4: For example, last year, we go up to Alaska.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I've saved all of my money for Alaska in the
- 37:35Speaker 1: spring from my sponsors, and it's they're having a killer season.
- 37:39Speaker 1: It's snowing every day. We're like, oh my gosh, this
- 37:41Speaker 1: spring's going to be incredible. So we went up there,
- 37:45Speaker 1: sat in this fishing village for three to I think
- 37:48Speaker 1: it was like three and a half weeks while it
- 37:49Speaker 1: was just pounding snow, and then we see this high
- 37:53Speaker 1: pressure coming. We're like, oh, the sun's coming, Like we're
- 37:55Speaker 1: going to be able to fly to helicopters and get
- 37:57Speaker 1: out there. And so we go down the first sunny day.
- 38:01Speaker 1: All these film crews are flying in from all over
- 38:03Speaker 1: the world for this particular storm and system that was happening,
- 38:07Speaker 1: and then this big high pressure. So we're at the
- 38:09Speaker 1: airport at the helicopter and we're like, it's like six am.
- 38:13Speaker 1: The sun's barely even up, and we're like, well, it's warm,
- 38:16Speaker 1: like it is really warm, and we're like unzipping our
- 38:20Speaker 1: jackets at the helicopter pad, and all of a sudden,
- 38:24Speaker 1: it went. We could have time laps it going from
- 38:26Speaker 1: January to July in like twenty four hours. All the
- 38:29Speaker 1: snow melted, like the sun came out and the mountains
- 38:32Speaker 1: just like avalanched and the snow fell down. So we
- 38:35Speaker 1: didn't get a single day of skiing and we were
- 38:37Speaker 1: up there for a month. So yeah, the weather rules
- 38:40Speaker 1: are rules.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Are world wow.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Wow, I like cannot even imagine all the effort that
- 38:46Speaker 3: went into it just for you to have to make
- 38:49Speaker 3: that big pivot. But again, like we're on this metaphor tangent,
- 38:52Speaker 3: and it's like how often does that happen?
- 38:54Speaker 1: Right?
- 38:55Speaker 3: Like how often do you put in so much work
- 38:57Speaker 3: just for something to not go as you had hope
- 39:00Speaker 3: it would.
- 39:01Speaker 1: And I always come back to like, I really truly
- 39:04Speaker 1: believe everything happens for a reason, and a lot of times,
- 39:07Speaker 1: like our karmic energy will bring that upon us in ways,
- 39:11Speaker 1: and like what we put out in the world, we receive.
- 39:13Speaker 4: But there's also like the lessons.
- 39:15Speaker 1: At each time you have these huge pivots where you're like, hey,
- 39:19Speaker 1: change a plan, start over, back to the drawing board,
- 39:21Speaker 1: But like, what did I learn and take away from
- 39:24Speaker 1: that experience?
- 39:25Speaker 4: And sometimes it might just be like, oh, I'm.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Learning to adapt better and like roll with the punches
- 39:30Speaker 1: and change and not let things hold on to things
- 39:32Speaker 1: so tightly, have a little like looser grip on it.
- 39:35Speaker 1: And sometimes it just really sucks and you're like, Okay,
- 39:37Speaker 1: now I'm just learning how to grieve. Other times it's
- 39:41Speaker 1: the best ever, and that like those when you have
- 39:43Speaker 1: those lows, it makes you really appreciate the highs.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Definitely, definitely so for you now at this point, having
- 39:52Speaker 3: gone on all of these different seemingly awesome expeditions of sorts.
- 39:56Speaker 3: You also, as you had mentioned, start to integrate like
- 40:00Speaker 3: a lot of other things into the flow of your
- 40:04Speaker 3: every day. And so we're talking about hiking, and then
- 40:06Speaker 3: earlier you mentioned like getting your pilot's license. So talk
- 40:11Speaker 3: to me about what it looked like for you when
- 40:13Speaker 3: you thought that you were going to be done competing.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I was so into the film world, right,
- 40:21Speaker 1: So competition was took a full back seaters like, all right,
- 40:24Speaker 1: I'm done with that. What I really want to do
- 40:26Speaker 1: is create content, tell stories, and ski these mountains and
- 40:30Speaker 1: the far corners of the earth.
- 40:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it was kind of a hard line of like,
- 40:33Speaker 4: all right, competing.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Isn't really happening anymore. This is feels much better. I
- 40:39Speaker 1: didn't feel like a loss at by any means of
- 40:42Speaker 1: like stopping competing. It felt just like a natural progression
- 40:45Speaker 1: of what my heart wanted to do. And then with
- 40:48Speaker 1: this new invitation as the wild card. So the wild
- 40:50Speaker 1: card is basically they give you don't have to qualify,
- 40:54Speaker 1: They just call you out of the blue for they
- 40:56Speaker 1: picked one skier and one snowboarder, and usually the skiers mail.
- 41:00Speaker 1: There's been some legendary male skiers that have been a
- 41:02Speaker 1: part of the tour as a wildcard, and they picked
- 41:05Speaker 1: a female this year, and I was like, what, Like
- 41:07Speaker 1: it was just so validating and felt so honored, you know,
- 41:10Speaker 1: and it just gave me such a big boost of
- 41:13Speaker 1: confidence of like, oh wow, that these people are still.
- 41:16Speaker 4: Like know who I am and what I'm doing and.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Are like aware that I can hang and like bring
- 41:21Speaker 1: some spice to this the other snowboarders. Manuel Diaz, he's
- 41:25Speaker 1: from Chile. Yeah, So the point of the World Card
- 41:27Speaker 1: is to spice things up, give like the leader a
- 41:29Speaker 1: run for her money, and we'll.
- 41:32Speaker 4: See how it goes. I'm pumped. I'm really excited.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Where else does the tour go?
- 41:37Speaker 1: So we go from Spain to Andorra and then to
- 41:43Speaker 1: Kicking Horse British Columbia, and then Feverburn, Austria and Verbier Switzerland.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Wow.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Also, like you being able just to like wrap those
- 41:51Speaker 3: out real quick is quite impressive.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly what schedules As long as we keep these
- 42:01Speaker 1: borders open, That's a whole other thing. Right with COVID,
- 42:04Speaker 1: It's like this could all just get canceled in a second,
- 42:07Speaker 1: and then then.
- 42:08Speaker 3: What and then we're exercising all the strategies that we
- 42:10Speaker 3: were just on talking about when it comes to being
- 42:13Speaker 3: able to pivot and adapt.
- 42:14Speaker 2: So you said the buzzword, the sea word.
- 42:17Speaker 3: We don't love to talk about it, but we will
- 42:18Speaker 3: talk about it when it comes to COVID. How has
- 42:21Speaker 3: that impacted what you've had going on over the last
- 42:24Speaker 3: two years.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been pretty significant.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Actually, you know, I was talking about not being able
- 42:29Speaker 1: to come up here to Rebelstoke to my house, Like
- 42:31Speaker 1: that was pretty gnarly to not like to be literally
- 42:35Speaker 1: out of your house for fifteen months all my belongings,
- 42:38Speaker 1: Like I had to go buy all new clothes everything.
- 42:40Speaker 4: So that was a big one.
- 42:41Speaker 1: But it also brought this beautiful level of like with
- 42:45Speaker 1: what we've been doing with skiing, we're so travel focused
- 42:48Speaker 1: on going around the world to different places and just
- 42:51Speaker 1: like exploring our own backyards of wherever we were and
- 42:55Speaker 1: finding the beauty, like what's right out your back door?
- 42:58Speaker 4: And that was really cool.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Up here in Canada, it's definitely a lot stricter than
- 43:02Speaker 1: down in the States. How so, just you know, vaccine
- 43:07Speaker 1: checks at every restaurant, COVID tests now, I think as
- 43:10Speaker 1: of today, no more gathering is larger than ten people again,
- 43:14Speaker 1: masks everywhere. Yeah, you know, it's like you're on this like,
- 43:18Speaker 1: oh we're getting better. Oh oh up and down.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yeah, here we are.
- 43:23Speaker 3: I mean, I'm with you on the like finding the
- 43:25Speaker 3: small joys and like appreacing the things that we do
- 43:27Speaker 3: have and exploring in your own backyard. And when COVID
- 43:30Speaker 3: was at one point what was deemed at that point
- 43:33Speaker 3: to be the worst here in New York, back in
- 43:35Speaker 3: March of twenty twenty, that was when I started cycling
- 43:38Speaker 3: in a way that I never had before. And so
- 43:40Speaker 3: I was able to get out of my bike and
- 43:42Speaker 3: like check off my first century and just like keep
- 43:45Speaker 3: kind of going from there and exploring New York.
- 43:47Speaker 2: And New Jersey.
- 43:48Speaker 3: I can't even say that, like I'm sitting here saying
- 43:50Speaker 3: that New Jersey was like beautiful but in ways that
- 43:53Speaker 3: like I had never done before. And so I hear
- 43:56Speaker 3: you with those finding of the simple joys and exploring
- 43:59Speaker 3: your own backyard.
- 43:59Speaker 2: And you know, when the world opened up again, I
- 44:02Speaker 2: kind of lost.
- 44:03Speaker 3: A little bit of that, like a little bit of
- 44:05Speaker 3: the joy and the spice for the things that had
- 44:07Speaker 3: brought me so much joy. So to be honest with you.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Sometimes I'm like, what the hell is going on in
- 44:12Speaker 3: our world? And right now I definitely am, but a
- 44:14Speaker 3: big part of me is like we need to get
- 44:16Speaker 3: back to finding those like small silver linings and maybe
- 44:20Speaker 3: that we were getting just like a little bit greedy.
- 44:22Speaker 1: One hundred percent greedy and jaded, you know, and that
- 44:27Speaker 1: it really changed everyone grounding us all back down of
- 44:30Speaker 1: like you know, the lockdown was like whoa is this
- 44:34Speaker 1: really happening? Everyone's listening and doing this around the world,
- 44:37Speaker 1: like everyone is at home. Yeah, and you know, cleaning
- 44:41Speaker 1: out your house of all these old drawers that needed cleaning,
- 44:43Speaker 1: or learning how to cook a fun new thing, or
- 44:46Speaker 1: getting into yoga in your living room, whatever it was,
- 44:49Speaker 1: you know, spending time with your family. There's all these
- 44:52Speaker 1: little joys that was a great lesson for us to
- 44:54Speaker 1: still incorporate when our lives to pick up speed again.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Talk to me about the decision to get into flying.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, wow. So my dad's a pilot.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Grew up flying with him in the back of his
- 45:06Speaker 1: one eighty says nine, just a four seater around Idaho,
- 45:09Speaker 1: and a lot of my family on my dad's side
- 45:12Speaker 1: were big aviators, like all my uncles and aunts were pilots,
- 45:16Speaker 1: so it just kind of felt natural.
- 45:18Speaker 4: Of like this is what my family does. Yeah.
- 45:20Speaker 1: So as I was getting my private when I was
- 45:24Speaker 1: getting my private license in twenty sixteen, my dad gifted
- 45:29Speaker 1: me my aunt's journal says my aunt Alice was the
- 45:32Speaker 1: first woman to fly the Amazon in the twenties in
- 45:35Speaker 1: an open biplane, so the open capsule, hair's flowing in
- 45:38Speaker 1: the wind, and she just had a paper map and
- 45:41Speaker 1: a compass, like no radios, nothing. And so when I
- 45:43Speaker 1: heard that story, I was like, oh wow. Like, as
- 45:47Speaker 1: being a filmmaker, I'm like I want.
- 45:49Speaker 4: To do that.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I want to refly her flight down the Amazon. So
- 45:52Speaker 1: that's really inspired me to like get the next endorsements.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I just got my instrument rating this last summer, which
- 45:58Speaker 1: allows me to fly in clouds and above eighteen thousand feet.
- 46:01Speaker 1: But flying is just like there's constantly new aircraft to learn,
- 46:05Speaker 1: there's new ratings to get, and you're just constantly learning.
- 46:09Speaker 4: So that is like keeping my brain going. I love it.
- 46:14Speaker 2: First question, what does scare you in your life?
- 46:18Speaker 4: What scares me? Yeah, fear is It's an interesting subject.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I definitely have fears, you know, I'm scared of heights,
- 46:25Speaker 1: Like I totally am. I on somebody's walking a pro
- 46:31Speaker 1: skier who is now flying above eighteen thousand feet and
- 46:34Speaker 1: her first fear that she highlights is, I am certainly
- 46:37Speaker 1: scared of heights.
- 46:38Speaker 4: I'm certainly scared of heights.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I am. My younger sister laughs with me all the time,
- 46:42Speaker 1: like we'll go climbing, and she knows when I'm like
- 46:45Speaker 1: get gripped and she could like see, She's like, are
- 46:47Speaker 1: you scared of I'm like, yeah, She's always laughing because
- 46:50Speaker 1: she has like no fear of heights whatsoever. She's like,
- 46:52Speaker 1: it just blows my mind. You jump off cliffs for
- 46:54Speaker 1: a living, and you're scared of heights. And I think
- 46:57Speaker 1: that fear is something that we can practice and our
- 47:01Speaker 1: comfort with fear, befriending fear is kind of like a superpower.
- 47:05Speaker 1: And you know, when I get those those nervous feelings
- 47:08Speaker 1: or those butterflies, when fear conjures those up, I've, through practice,
- 47:12Speaker 1: have learned to enjoy that feeling and to like harness
- 47:15Speaker 1: it into energy to like perpetuate me forward instead of
- 47:18Speaker 1: like paralyzing me.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Do you remember a specific moment where you kind of
- 47:24Speaker 3: did that for one of the first times that dramatically
- 47:27Speaker 3: impacted how you move forward with fear, because I feel
- 47:29Speaker 3: like those moments are how we adopt the attitude and
- 47:33Speaker 3: the mindset that you have now, right.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's started when I was younger.
- 47:37Speaker 1: We'd go cliff jumping and my dad would be like,
- 47:40Speaker 1: he'd drive the boat up to these cliffs at the
- 47:42Speaker 1: lake and he'd be like, we're not going back until
- 47:45Speaker 1: everyone jumps. And I remember some of my friends were like,
- 47:47Speaker 1: your dad's crazy, I'm not jumping, and then they would
- 47:50Speaker 1: like they would. He's like he's serious, they're not, And
- 47:53Speaker 1: he's like, I wonder why my girls are so extreme.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Oh wait, Like I was one that made them jump
- 47:58Speaker 1: off cliffs when they're.
- 47:59Speaker 4: A little.
- 48:01Speaker 2: This is what he gets for not having any boys.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Yeah, so I thank.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Him for that, but I just remember even I think
- 48:11Speaker 1: actually my first one was where we call the bodywomping.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Would be in the ocean, just like tumbling in the waves,
- 48:16Speaker 1: and I'd come out and I'd.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Be like, oh my god, I was so scary. But
- 48:19Speaker 4: I'd look at my dad and he'd be like.
- 48:21Speaker 2: That was awesome.
- 48:22Speaker 4: I'm like, hot, Bob, good.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Job, and so I'm like, oh, this feeling I'm feeling
- 48:26Speaker 1: of nerves is actually a good feeling, you know.
- 48:28Speaker 4: Like just had that that switch?
- 48:31Speaker 2: I love that. I love that.
- 48:33Speaker 3: And then I mean the part two when I after
- 48:35Speaker 3: I said part one, what are you scared of? Part
- 48:38Speaker 3: two is when do you foresee yourself trying to duplicate
- 48:43Speaker 3: this journey?
- 48:44Speaker 4: Okay? Part two?
- 48:46Speaker 1: The journey it's like a three to five year plan.
- 48:48Speaker 1: There's a couple more things that are coming into works.
- 48:50Speaker 1: It's gonna be a very big project, and I'm trying
- 48:53Speaker 1: to incorporate a really large humanitarian giving back aspect. There's
- 49:00Speaker 1: also some electric planes that are coming up around, so
- 49:05Speaker 1: waiting on that development. There's just more pieces, some other
- 49:08Speaker 1: things I can't talk about.
- 49:09Speaker 2: But three to five years.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Talking about social media, obviously, as you have succeeded in
- 49:14Speaker 3: your career, you have gained a little bit more of
- 49:18Speaker 3: a following. How has that been for you having a
- 49:21Speaker 3: larger platform to both share your stories and what's going
- 49:26Speaker 3: on in your life, but also, as you've made very
- 49:29Speaker 3: clear something that's very important to you, do good by
- 49:32Speaker 3: other people.
- 49:33Speaker 1: I think it's an incredible tool to be able to
- 49:36Speaker 1: tell stories and to get information across. You know, it's
- 49:41Speaker 1: all of us have at our fingertips access to the
- 49:44Speaker 1: entire world all the time, like twenty four hours a day.
- 49:48Speaker 1: I think it could you know, when used inappropriately or
- 49:52Speaker 1: an unhealthy manner, it can be pretty toxic. But used
- 49:56Speaker 1: in the right way, it's an incredible tool to be
- 49:58Speaker 1: able to share our experience. And I mean, for example,
- 50:02Speaker 1: this house where I'm sitting right now is fully off grid,
- 50:05Speaker 1: fully passive house. It's rainwater entrapment, so all of the
- 50:10Speaker 1: plumbings rainwater, solar for the electricity, and then an geo
- 50:15Speaker 1: thermal for the heat. And then being able to build
- 50:19Speaker 1: sustainably like this and share that with people to inspire
- 50:22Speaker 1: them to want you know, all of our building plot
- 50:25Speaker 1: practices should change. And I at first I was like,
- 50:29Speaker 1: do I really want to share my house on the media.
- 50:31Speaker 1: It's such a personal space. But then it was like, no,
- 50:33Speaker 1: I want to inspire people to build differently and that
- 50:36Speaker 1: you can still have a beautiful home and it can
- 50:38Speaker 1: be sustainable.
- 50:39Speaker 2: And how about when it comes to the social media critics, I.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Was thinking, with the mental coach I'm talking to when
- 50:45Speaker 1: we have that evil voice that's like talking us down,
- 50:48Speaker 1: La la my evil voice. When Lala's talking to me,
- 50:52Speaker 1: it's like you invite her to the table. It's like
- 50:55Speaker 1: if you have a bully in high school and they're
- 50:57Speaker 1: like wanting to like flip your lunch tray, if you're like,
- 51:00Speaker 1: how about you sit with us, like you do you
- 51:02Speaker 1: need a hug? Like you just completely disminish that you
- 51:06Speaker 1: put water on their fire, like there's no fuel. So
- 51:09Speaker 1: just killing with kindness, I think is very beneficial if
- 51:13Speaker 1: you want to choose your battle. I love.
- 51:16Speaker 3: I love the idea here or the through line here.
- 51:19Speaker 3: That kindness is, without a doubt, one of your biggest values.
- 51:24Speaker 3: If I had to ask you to name perhaps like
- 51:26Speaker 3: one or two others, what would you say? Two more
- 51:30Speaker 3: of your personal key values would be speaking.
- 51:33Speaker 1: My last name, DuPont actually means of the bridge. And
- 51:37Speaker 1: so I think I have the superpower of bridging people
- 51:40Speaker 1: together where people need to be connected to create, you know, better,
- 51:44Speaker 1: themselves better the world. Connecting people is I think a
- 51:48Speaker 1: superpower that I have. And then I feel like I
- 51:51Speaker 1: was blessed with a puzzitive attitude, like I just see
- 51:55Speaker 1: you having a good time and smiling, Like, of course
- 51:57Speaker 1: I have bad days, but I feel like relatively, I'm
- 52:00Speaker 1: just like happy, And I think that's just loving every
- 52:03Speaker 1: moment of this life.
- 52:04Speaker 4: You know, good end of bed.
- 52:06Speaker 2: I love that for you right now.
- 52:08Speaker 3: If someone wants to go over to your Instagram, they
- 52:12Speaker 3: would see someone who identifies as a pro skier and
- 52:16Speaker 3: a pilot. You're obviously this wild card thirty five thousand followers.
- 52:21Speaker 3: When you look in the mirror, what is it that
- 52:22Speaker 3: you see looking back at you?
- 52:26Speaker 4: Oh, that's a really good question.
- 52:29Speaker 1: I honestly sometimes picture my like nine year old self
- 52:33Speaker 1: in the mirror and like just want to hug and
- 52:36Speaker 1: embrace her and speak to her kindly and encouragingly.
- 52:41Speaker 4: And it's it's definitely been a practice. You know.
- 52:43Speaker 1: There's sometimes you look in the mirror and you're like
- 52:45Speaker 1: wanting to correct things or nitpick things, and that doesn't
- 52:48Speaker 1: do any good. Just look at her and love her
- 52:52Speaker 1: every time. But I see, you know, I see a
- 52:54Speaker 1: sister and a friend and like a bright light all around.
- 53:00Speaker 2: What excites you right now?
- 53:01Speaker 1: I think what really has fired me up right now
- 53:04Speaker 1: is this free Ride World Tour. I am so excited
- 53:06Speaker 1: to travel to Europe and meet new people and we'll
- 53:10Speaker 1: be in kind of this crude traveling together around the
- 53:13Speaker 1: around Guro up in Canada. So excited to meet new friends,
- 53:16Speaker 1: to ski these like iconic mountains that I've never skied before.
- 53:21Speaker 1: So that's it's so energizing.
- 53:24Speaker 2: You mentioned a partner earlier.
- 53:26Speaker 3: How does traveling like that impact you and that partnership.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Okay, So I've just I'm with the
- 53:33Speaker 1: love of my life. I've just relieved I've finally found him.
- 53:40Speaker 2: So much hope coming from LEXI.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Right now, I will say this, I am positively affirming
- 53:46Speaker 3: that within one year's time, I'm like closing my eyes
- 53:50Speaker 3: and saying this, because no one's gonna be watching this video.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Within one year of my life, I will meet the
- 53:54Speaker 2: love of my life. And I will be saying this
- 53:56Speaker 2: in such a gushing manner that is very similar.
- 53:58Speaker 1: Yes, it's I thought it was impossible. I didn't know
- 54:02Speaker 1: that he'd be out there. I was like very specific
- 54:04Speaker 1: of what I wanted.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Okay, tell me about him.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 54:08Speaker 1: So his name is Matthew Monty. He's a doctor. He's
- 54:11Speaker 1: a surf doctor, primarily orthopedics, but now he does functional medicine,
- 54:15Speaker 1: so putting things in the body that our body actually
- 54:18Speaker 1: wants and can use as fuel. And he's coming with
- 54:21Speaker 1: me on the tour this year. So he's my doctor,
- 54:24Speaker 1: my chauffeur, my messuse my love. This is his first winter.
- 54:28Speaker 1: He lives in Kawai, so this is his first winter
- 54:31Speaker 1: away from the ocean, and I was kind of like
- 54:33Speaker 1: Kenny hang like Anny snowboard and he's absolutely ripping.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Did you meet surfing?
- 54:39Speaker 1: We actually met in Alaska Helly skiing, So I was
- 54:43Speaker 1: up there filming and he came up on a Helly
- 54:45Speaker 1: trip as one of the clients and we were staying.
- 54:48Speaker 4: In the same lodge.
- 54:49Speaker 2: Wow.
- 54:50Speaker 1: We started dating a couple of months after that, but
- 54:52Speaker 1: that's where we met and we've been hooked at the
- 54:55Speaker 1: hip ever since.
- 54:56Speaker 2: I love this for you. There's hope for us.
- 54:58Speaker 3: All Okay, heading toward the I here on a positive note.
- 55:02Speaker 3: So the final question I have for you, Although I
- 55:04Speaker 3: feel I could like gab with you all day every day,
- 55:07Speaker 3: right now, you have an opportunity to offer yourself a
- 55:12Speaker 3: piece of advice. Right when you were getting into professional skiing,
- 55:17Speaker 3: starting to travel, kind of finding your own feet, you
- 55:20Speaker 3: have an opportunity to offer that younger woman a piece
- 55:24Speaker 3: of advice.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Looking back on it, right now what would you tell.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Her, man, do you think I'm want to be rad
- 55:28Speaker 1: if this was real? Like you're older, but more much
- 55:32Speaker 1: yourself to come back and talk to you. Okay, Someboddy
- 55:36Speaker 1: myself in her shoes, little college LEXI just starting to
- 55:41Speaker 1: become a pro skier, you know, not take things too seriously.
- 55:44Speaker 4: And I maybe mentioned this earlier.
- 55:46Speaker 1: I think when we're younger, it's like when things don't
- 55:49Speaker 1: go your way, it's like the world's crashing down on you,
- 55:51Speaker 1: and it's just so serious. It's like the end of
- 55:53Speaker 1: the world, Like, oh my god, nothing's going to get
- 55:56Speaker 1: better than this. And just to realize that that is
- 56:00Speaker 1: a waste of energy and it takes so much more
- 56:03Speaker 1: energy to have those negative thoughts than it is to
- 56:06Speaker 1: just like be easy, take it easy, put one foot
- 56:09Speaker 1: in front of the other every day and just keep
- 56:12Speaker 1: plugging away, and just love yourself the most, because that
- 56:17Speaker 1: if you don't love yourself, then how can you love
- 56:19Speaker 1: anything around you and appreciate anything Like I know all
- 56:23Speaker 1: of us need to practice self love more. Every single
- 56:26Speaker 1: person on this earth needs to practice it more. So
- 56:29Speaker 1: I wish I would have known earlier to start practicing.
- 56:33Speaker 3: Definitely, definitely Lexi, you are array of light. I'll be
- 56:36Speaker 3: cheering from you as you're traveling the globe. I know
- 56:39Speaker 3: the hurdlers will be to tell us how do we
- 56:41Speaker 3: follow along with you?
- 56:42Speaker 2: How do we try to keep up with you? Give
- 56:44Speaker 2: us all your details?
- 56:45Speaker 1: Oh awesome, Yeah, thank you so much. You can follow
- 56:48Speaker 1: me on Lexi DuPont on Instagram. I'm I'm posting regularly.
- 56:53Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure we're going to be putting together a
- 56:55Speaker 1: little web series while we're traveling on tour. Eddie Bauer
- 56:58Speaker 1: always is posting amazing things for my progress and our
- 57:01Speaker 1: entire team K two skis, palk helmets and goggles and
- 57:06Speaker 1: BCA backpacks. They're all supporting me throughout this winter. So
- 57:10Speaker 1: just a big shout out to them and they'll be
- 57:12Speaker 1: We can check out on their channels of what we're doing.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Love it.
- 57:14Speaker 3: I'm over at Hurdle Podcast and at Emily a Body
- 57:17Speaker 3: Another Hurdle conquered.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Catch you guys next time
