- Lucas: Hey there. Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I am Lucas, and this is Luna. We are so glad you are here with us again. Luna: Hi everyone! It feels good to be back at the mic. Lucas, we have covered so much of the body already. What are we looking at today? Lucas: We are focusing on two very important sensory organs today. First up, let's look at the eye. Luna: The eye? Is it like 'eye' in English? Lucas: Very close. The word is oog. Let me say it slowly. oog. Luna: oog. Okay. And what does it mean? Lucas: It means eye. But remember, in Dutch, it is a neuter noun. So we use het. Het oog. Luna: Het oog. Got it. So if I want to say 'my eye', it would be... Lucas: Yes. Mijn oog. Let's try that together. Mijn oog. Luna: Mijn oog. That sounds nice. Short and sweet. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's move to the other side of the head. The ear. Luna: Oh, I know this one. It starts with an O too? Or is it different? Lucas: It is similar but distinct. The word is oor. Listen carefully. oor. Luna: oor. Like the sound of wind blowing past? Lucas: Perfect analogy. And just like oog, it is also neuter. Het oor. Luna: Het oor. My ear. So, mijn oor. Lucas: Correct. Mijn oor. Let's repeat both phrases. Het oog. Het oor. Luna: Het oog. Het oor. They feel like a pair. Two sides of the same coin. Lucas: They do. Now, imagine you are feeling a bit under the weather. How do you tell someone your eye hurts? Luna: Do I say 'My eye is painful'? Lucas: You could, but there is a more natural way. We use the phrase: Mijn oog doet pijn. Luna: Mijn oog doet pijn. Let me break that down. Doet... doen? Does? Lucas: Spot on. Doen means to do. Pijn means pain. So literally, 'My eye does pain.' But we say it naturally as 'My eye hurts.' Luna: Mijn oog doet pijn. Oh, that makes sense. It's like my eye is causing pain. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's try the ear. If your ear is bothering you, you can say the same structure. Luna: Mijn oor doet pijn? Lucas: Yes. Mijn oor doet pijn. Very clear. Very direct. Luna: I love how consistent Dutch is. Once you know the pattern, you can apply it everywhere. Lucas: That is true. But sometimes, it is not just pain. Sometimes it is something else. Like hearing issues. Luna: Oh, right. What if I cannot hear well? Lucas: There is a great phrase for that. Ik kan niet goed horen. Luna: Ik kan niet goed horen. Let me say that. Ik kan... niet... goed... horen. Lucas: Beautiful. Kan means can. Niet means not. Goed means good. Horen means to hear. 'I can not good hear.' Which translates to 'I cannot hear well.' Luna: Ik kan niet goed horen. That is super useful. Especially in noisy places. Lucas: Absolutely. And finally, let's talk about itching. It happens to everyone. Luna: Oh yes. The dreaded itch. How do you say that? Lucas: The verb is jeuken. To itch. So, Mijn oor jeukt. Luna: Mijn oor jeukt. It sounds a bit funny. Jeukt. Lucas: It does. But it is accurate. Just remember, jeukt is the third person singular form. So it fits perfectly with mijn oor. Luna: Mijn oor jeukt. Got it. So we have oog, oor, mijn oog doet pijn, ik kan niet goed horen, and mijn oor jeukt. Lucas: You nailed it. Let's review them all one last time to lock them in. Luna: Okay, here we go. Het oog. Het oor. Lucas: Good. Now the sentences. Mijn oog doet pijn. Luna: Mijn oog doet pijn. Then the hearing one. Ik kan niet goed horen. Lucas: Perfect. And the itching one. Mijn oor jeukt. Luna: Mijn oor jeukt. Wow, those really stuck. I feel like I can see my eyes and ears now. Lucas: I hope so. You are doing amazing work. Keep practicing these until they feel automatic. Luna: Will do. Before we wrap up, Lucas, I wanted to mention something important about how we make these episodes. Lucas: Right. This is a language learning show, and keeping it ad-free takes effort.
