- 0:24Speaker 1: this morning from Larsonkini Home Services, the one, the only
- 0:27Speaker 1: Andrew Larson of Larcentkini Home Services. Andrew, how you doing
- 0:30Speaker 1: this week?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Doing great? Good self.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I can't complain, man, I will tell you this. I
- 0:36Speaker 1: see what happened northy here and I think my lucky
- 0:39Speaker 1: stars every day that that we did not hear in
- 0:42Speaker 1: the Madison area get hit by this. But I'm also
- 0:45Speaker 1: reminded that storm damage is a real thing. We've had
- 0:48Speaker 1: a couple of instances over the past few years pretty
- 0:50Speaker 1: severe weather coming through the area. And of course, you
- 0:54Speaker 1: want to protect yourself, you want to protect your family,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and of course also protect your home. And we're going
- 0:58Speaker 1: to talk about store and the rapid response services you
- 1:02Speaker 1: guys offer at Larson Kini Home Services. Let's talk a
- 1:05Speaker 1: little bit just for people that don't know. One of
- 1:07Speaker 1: the cool things that you guys do at Larsonkini Home
- 1:09Speaker 1: Services is offer a variety of options. I know we
- 1:12Speaker 1: talked last week about roof restore and we've talked about
- 1:16Speaker 1: maybe dealing with problem areas when it comes to your roof.
- 1:20Speaker 1: You guys really have a wide variety of solutions for
- 1:23Speaker 1: people when it comes to maintaining their home, and of
- 1:26Speaker 1: course making sure that their house is sealed up nice
- 1:29Speaker 1: and tight and protected from the elements, don't you we do?
- 1:33Speaker 3: You know what we do takes care of people's homes,
- 1:35Speaker 3: makes them stay dry, makes them stay warm or cool,
- 1:39Speaker 3: and keeps water away from the house.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But this whole storm got a little personal for us.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Oh so I don't have it, don't I don't have anybody? Well,
- 1:50Speaker 3: I shouldn't say that that I know personally affected, because
- 1:52Speaker 3: I do know some people personally affected.
- 1:54Speaker 2: If a lot of people don't know.
- 1:56Speaker 3: The Kinie part of Larsonkini is based out of Nina, Wisconsin,
- 1:59Speaker 3: which is connected to Manasha on Appleton's It's right there.
- 2:03Speaker 3: So we're that tornado hit So funny enough, sean a
- 2:07Speaker 3: lot of people on here and like I've talked about
- 2:09Speaker 3: my background in construction.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I worked on siding crew, riff and crew.
- 2:12Speaker 3: But the main thing that I did during right out
- 2:15Speaker 3: of college is I was a gutter installer and I
- 2:17Speaker 3: did it three four years before I went into sales
- 2:22Speaker 3: and then moving to open my own business. That's where
- 2:24Speaker 3: I met Josh Keeney was at that company. We worked together,
- 2:28Speaker 3: and look, I'm not gonna twist it like I install
- 2:32Speaker 3: gutters all the time I used to, but I still
- 2:37Speaker 3: know what I'm doing. Well, we had a little scheduling
- 2:39Speaker 3: snaff foo last week and there was a job that
- 2:42Speaker 3: had to get done.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So I talked to Josh. I said, hey, man, let's just.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Strap on the tool belt and we'll do the job ourselves. Oh,
- 2:48Speaker 3: we didn't do this. It's you know, it's like riding
- 2:51Speaker 3: a bike, Sean. Yes, it's like riding a bike, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 3: except twenty feet in the air with you know. Anyway,
- 2:58Speaker 3: So we decided that day we are going to go
- 3:01Speaker 3: install that job together.
- 3:02Speaker 2: On Monday morning. It just so happens to be in Nina,
- 3:07Speaker 2: right by the.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Lake, and right by lake when a bagel real close
- 3:13Speaker 3: to where the storms were early close. So we're installing
- 3:17Speaker 3: this job and when I get there, it's really hot,
- 3:20Speaker 3: it's really humid.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But as we're working, this.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Wasn't a big job, so it only took us about
- 3:26Speaker 3: three hours, so little context. Get there about eight o'clock
- 3:30Speaker 3: and hot and humid, but it starts getting cloudy and
- 3:34Speaker 3: it starts feeling weird, even though there's literally nothing on
- 3:37Speaker 3: the radar, there's nothing going on. I ask Josh, I say, hey,
- 3:41Speaker 3: check your radar. It just it seems weird. He's like, no,
- 3:45Speaker 3: we're good, we're good. There's nothing. Okay, cool, no problem,
- 3:48Speaker 3: because the last place you want to be during a
- 3:51Speaker 3: thunderstorm is on a metal ladder and playing twenty feet
- 3:54Speaker 3: in the year. It's not safe. So we're working. We're working,
- 3:59Speaker 3: and the weather starts seem weirder and weirder, and I
- 4:01Speaker 3: asked him again. He's like, now, we're good about that.
- 4:04Speaker 3: About a little bit later, our our hr director Lisa
- 4:08Speaker 3: decides to come down because well, when you get when
- 4:10Speaker 3: you get the old dogs out with a tool belt
- 4:12Speaker 3: up on a plank, it's a good photo op.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:15Speaker 3: She's taken, you know, doing some video of us installing.
- 4:18Speaker 3: And so then I say to her, because now it's
- 4:20Speaker 3: starting to like it almost smells weird. I can't even
- 4:24Speaker 3: explain it. I'm like, can you please check the radar.
- 4:28Speaker 3: I don't This doesn't look good. It doesn't feel right
- 4:30Speaker 3: to me. She checks the radar.
- 4:32Speaker 2: She's like, oh wow, we're under a tornado warning right here,
- 4:37Speaker 2: right now.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Oh okay, I'm We're almost done.
- 4:41Speaker 2: So we you know, we scramble.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I've got a little bit left to do up on
- 4:44Speaker 3: the ladder, and Josh is finishing the downs fault. We
- 4:47Speaker 3: get everything taken down, we clean up the yard, we
- 4:49Speaker 3: strap up the truck.
- 4:50Speaker 2: We leave.
- 4:52Speaker 3: As we're leaving this house, now we are driving west
- 4:54Speaker 3: away from Lake Winnebago. We are still in Nina, about
- 4:57Speaker 3: one mile south of Nanasha, and the sirens start going off,
- 5:03Speaker 3: and our phones start buzzing that you know, and it
- 5:06Speaker 3: literally says, take seek shelter immediately, imminent danger tornado.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But I'm like, whoa.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I start driving west and it starts pouring so hard
- 5:19Speaker 3: I can't see, and then it starts hailing.
- 5:21Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden, now I start driving north.
- 5:25Speaker 3: To go towards his office, and the rain starts coming
- 5:28Speaker 3: sideways and I see trees start falling down, and I'm
- 5:33Speaker 3: going holy buckets, there's got to be a tornado. Well, Sean,
- 5:37Speaker 3: we had no idea what actually had transpired about two
- 5:42Speaker 3: miles north of where we were, and had we stayed
- 5:47Speaker 3: on that job maybe another ten minutes, we wouldn't have
- 5:53Speaker 3: been able to leave.
- 5:55Speaker 2: We actually went back to the office.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And regrouped, and we're trying to make sense of what happened.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Now we had heard there was a tornado. I said, hey,
- 6:04Speaker 3: let's go back to this job and check on it.
- 6:05Speaker 3: We start driving to this job. We can't even get
- 6:09Speaker 3: to the job. There are so many down trees, twisted trees,
- 6:13Speaker 3: I mean trees that are ten feet around, completely uprooted.
- 6:16Speaker 3: It was insane, But it was now nothing compared to
- 6:19Speaker 3: what we saw that hit about exactly a mile and
- 6:23Speaker 3: a half north from where we started seeing the tree damage.
- 6:26Speaker 2: So that whole storm was really really personal for me.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It was absolutely terrifying. It was a disaster zone, looks
- 6:34Speaker 3: just like what you saw on the news. But we
- 6:35Speaker 3: were almost we were almost in it. And Lisa, our
- 6:42Speaker 3: hr director, who was down at that job and who
- 6:46Speaker 3: was the one who told me, hey, we're under tornado
- 6:48Speaker 3: warning right now her house.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Now she got very fortunate. She was north of there
- 6:54Speaker 2: in Mnasha.
- 6:57Speaker 3: She basically lost her roof, needs an roof and siding
- 7:01Speaker 3: and stuff. Every tree in her yard and her block
- 7:03Speaker 3: is gone. It was very wooded. But if we go
- 7:06Speaker 3: three houses to the north of her, they're gone. The
- 7:10Speaker 3: houses are gone. So she got extremely fortunate.
- 7:14Speaker 2: So what we did up.
- 7:16Speaker 3: In that area yesterday is we had our tents set
- 7:18Speaker 3: up and I don't know, we bought a few hundred
- 7:21Speaker 3: sandwiches and waters and gatorade and chips, and we're just.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Kind of got like a little little community, you.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Know, spot where everybody working can come and get a
- 7:32Speaker 3: free meal and stuff like that. So I said, I
- 7:35Speaker 3: wanted to talk about our storm rapid response team.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Because they were out. We were out in full force
- 7:40Speaker 2: right after that storm.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It's not something that we talk about a lot, but
- 7:44Speaker 3: we do offer a rapid response.
- 7:46Speaker 2: So for some of.
- 7:47Speaker 3: These obviously we saw the tragedy that transpired right downtown
- 7:51Speaker 3: Manasha where.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Homes are gone. Yeah, I mean there's whole blocks that
- 7:56Speaker 2: are going to have.
- 7:57Speaker 3: To be bulldozed and rebuilt. But for those on the
- 8:00Speaker 3: outskirts of it who were lucky, you know, missing part
- 8:05Speaker 3: of their roof. When I say part of the roof,
- 8:06Speaker 3: like part of their shingles, stuff like that. You know,
- 8:08Speaker 3: the last thing we want is to leave that exposed.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Now it rains. Now we're looking at problems on the
- 8:12Speaker 2: inside of the house.
- 8:13Speaker 3: So we offer a rapid response team, which we're typically
- 8:18Speaker 3: always there able to be there that day, to do
- 8:22Speaker 3: quick repairs, basically a patch job until we can get
- 8:25Speaker 3: there and do the real stuff. But it might include
- 8:28Speaker 3: tarping a roof, It might include just removing some shingles
- 8:31Speaker 3: and laying some ice and water and just some random
- 8:33Speaker 3: shingles back on top of it. Basically, we just want
- 8:35Speaker 3: to make the roof water tight for the time being.
- 8:41Speaker 3: There's a nominal fee for that. But what we do
- 8:45Speaker 3: is listen, if we come out, you got to for
- 8:48Speaker 3: a rapid response. Your roof is leaking. We need the
- 8:50Speaker 3: leak stopped. We come out, we tarp, do whatever we can.
- 8:53Speaker 3: We stop the leak. When we come back, then with
- 8:55Speaker 3: an actual sales rep to assess what.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Truly needs to don mate done. Maybe it's a restore,
- 9:01Speaker 2: maybe you need a full roof. We usually take half
- 9:04Speaker 2: the price of that off.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Most people don't care because if your roof is leaking,
- 9:07Speaker 3: you're like Hey, yeah, it's not my roof from leaking,
- 9:10Speaker 3: but this storm really like, I mean, I think our
- 9:15Speaker 3: roofing manager, Nick Up at Arnina office went to Minards
- 9:19Speaker 3: about an hour after that storm was done and bought
- 9:25Speaker 3: the last of the tarps they were out.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I mean, people were just on top of it.
- 9:29Speaker 3: But it was pretty cool to see how quickly community
- 9:32Speaker 3: came together. I mean we were out back to that
- 9:35Speaker 3: job we had just finished within two hours of the
- 9:38Speaker 3: tornado being gone, and I mean there was like an
- 9:42Speaker 3: army of people.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Already out cutting trees.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Clearing the streets. I mean, there were so many down
- 9:49Speaker 3: power lines. We were trying to go down roads and
- 9:52Speaker 3: we'd have to turn around and go back because their
- 9:54Speaker 3: power lines are down, were down so low the truck
- 9:56Speaker 3: couldn't get under them.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Plus we didn't know if they were live or not.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Turns out, I mean I think there was like thirty
- 10:03Speaker 3: thousand people without power. But yeah, sorry, I'm taking up
- 10:08Speaker 3: the whole the whole thing with talking about this experience.
- 10:11Speaker 3: But it was crazy and some of this work we
- 10:13Speaker 3: can really help people with, and unfortunately and tragically, like
- 10:16Speaker 3: some of this work is beyond what we can do.
- 10:18Speaker 2: And it's just my heart goes out to these people
- 10:20Speaker 2: because it is it is utter devastation in that area.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And yeah, one of the things Andrew that and and
- 10:26Speaker 1: something that I know is a very important thing to
- 10:31Speaker 1: you and everybody at Larcentini Home Services. And something that
- 10:33Speaker 1: anybody that's listened to you and I talk over the
- 10:36Speaker 1: years is you talk about service to a fault, and
- 10:39Speaker 1: we talk about, you know, times when people are in
- 10:42Speaker 1: need and devastation happens. I don't think people always think
- 10:46Speaker 1: about that. That they think like doing roof work and
- 10:49Speaker 1: other you know, and gutters and things like that. People
- 10:52Speaker 1: don't really realize that there are times where you're coming
- 10:54Speaker 1: into situations where where people have experienced some of the
- 10:58Speaker 1: pretty significant trauma and sometimes it's it's first hand and
- 11:01Speaker 1: the idea of being there with supplies as needed and
- 11:05Speaker 1: offering that service to a fault, that going above and beyond,
- 11:08Speaker 1: going into those areas where where storm damage has happened,
- 11:12Speaker 1: where where there are dangers and our things to really
- 11:14Speaker 1: help people preserve their safety, preserve their investment and other things.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It really reinforces that that for people that say, well,
- 11:22Speaker 1: what when Andrew says service to a fault, what does
- 11:24Speaker 1: he mean that's what he's talking about. That's for folks
- 11:27Speaker 1: that are listening this morning and say what does that
- 11:29Speaker 1: exactly mean? That literally means that when stuff like this happens,
- 11:33Speaker 1: they are there. And that's the great thing about working
- 11:35Speaker 1: with and having that relationship with the team at Larson
- 11:37Speaker 1: kiny Home Services. Great day to pick up the phone.
- 11:40Speaker 1: And I would also advise you if you've got you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: maybe it's a dry erase board, or you got a
- 11:45Speaker 1: magnet on the on the refrigerator, you can write this
- 11:47Speaker 1: number down have it handy six oh eight five three
- 11:50Speaker 1: five forty three forty three. That's five three, five forty
- 11:54Speaker 1: three forty three for Larson Kini Home Services. All storm forget.
- 11:57Speaker 1: If you haven't had your roof inspected recently, definite only
- 12:00Speaker 1: want to have that done again. They'd love to talk
- 12:02Speaker 1: to you at Larson Keennie Home Services telephon number six
- 12:04Speaker 1: oh eight five three, five forty three forty three. Andrew,
- 12:07Speaker 1: thank you so much for joining us this morning. Thank
- 12:10Speaker 1: goodness you and everyone is okay. I know there were
- 12:13Speaker 1: some injuries, but thank goodness, no loss of life up
- 12:16Speaker 1: up in the Menasha area.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Every That's the crazy part to me, that yeah, you
- 12:20Speaker 2: see those pictures. Yes, And I think honestly saving grace
- 12:24Speaker 2: is that it was in the middle of the day.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah good, Yeah, really good, really good.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Point out a lot of people not home, a lot
- 12:29Speaker 2: of people at work. So very very fortunate.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Andrew, thank you so much for the great work that
- 12:33Speaker 1: you do. Look forward to talking to you real soon
- 12:35Speaker 1: and you have a fantastic.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Day you as well.
