- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's. Adam here.
- 0:41And in this episode of The Hypnotist, you'll be listening
- 0:45to a hypnosis session that deals with this idea of analysis
- 0:51paralysis. And I think it's quite well
- 0:55known just. Because of the.
- 0:56Alliteration. But in a nutshell, if you're not
- 1:00familiar with this term, it just means that when you think things
- 1:04too much that you end up doing nothing.
- 1:06And a lot of people do this in many different areas of their
- 1:10life. It might be considering a
- 1:12relationship, considering an investment, the possibility of a
- 1:15new job or a new business. And they think it.
- 1:18Over. So many different ways,
- 1:21different connotations, and that's beyond due diligence,
- 1:24that's beyond research and caution.
- 1:27It gets to a point where the more they think about it, the
- 1:30more paralyzed they become. And I was working with a client
- 1:34and for them, it was relocating to a different part of the
- 1:38country. They wanted to do that, but
- 1:40they've been trapped in their own head for years, and it was
- 1:46leading them to hesitate. And that kind of makes sense
- 1:51because if you feel anxious or worried about something, they're
- 1:54not making a decision feels safe.
- 1:57But quite often the consequence of not doing anything is that it
- 2:01keeps you stuck in a situation that you've already evaluated is
- 2:07not a great situation to be in. And that's why analysis
- 2:10paralysis is such a crippling thing.
- 2:14Many people experience a mild form of this in procrastination,
- 2:18that they've got that thing to do, but they're not sure if
- 2:19they're going to do it well. They.
- 2:21Don't do it. They put it off and then in the
- 2:23end they have to either rush it or it just never gets done.
- 2:27This is a more bigger form of that.
- 2:29So if there's big life decisions, quite often people.
- 2:33Get into this state of. Analysis paralysis.
- 2:36Or if there's something at risk like money or time, then that
- 2:39can lead to that place. But here's the interesting
- 2:43thing. As a child, they were quite
- 2:44adventurous. So this uses.
- 2:47In a child work regression and resource states, but also a
- 2:52metaphor of. Berries.
- 2:55Because berries. Were something they used to go
- 2:58out and pick when they were a child.
- 3:00And all of it comes down to this element of freeing themselves
- 3:04from this kind of feeling of having to make a perfect
- 3:09decision and instead making a decision that moves them to a
- 3:14better place when they are currently knowing they can
- 3:16always make new decisions in the future.
- 3:20So if you can resonate with this idea of analysis paralysis,
- 3:23maybe there's an area of your life that you've been kind of on
- 3:27pause and and just kind of. Stuck with think.
- 3:31About that area of your life before the hypnosis starts
- 3:35because you'll be able to get more from the session if you
- 3:38make. It specific to you so.
- 3:40Think of where in your life are you stuck?
- 3:42Where in your life do you know you want to make a change, but
- 3:45you haven't made the change yet? Think of that as you listen to
- 3:48the session. And as always, if you like the
- 3:50idea of working with me directly but you haven't done, you know,
- 3:54anything about that, maybe you're stuck, you know, in that
- 3:57area of your life. Click the link in the show
- 3:59notes. Book the consultation call.
- 4:02We'll have a chat. And it might be that I am the
- 4:04right person to work with, or it might not.
- 4:06But at least by taking that action, you'll figure out if
- 4:10it's worthwhile or viable. For you.
- 4:13So consider that. But for now, find a quiet,
- 4:16comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:19Relax and enjoy the session. The.
- 6:08Take a deep breath in and AS. You breathe in.
- 6:17Feel like you're breathing in a? Sensation of calm and
- 6:22relaxation. And as you exhale, just feel a
- 6:29wonderful sense of release and. Relaxation, particularly.
- 6:34Around your eyelids. Feeling a.
- 6:39Heaviness and a. Feeling of.
- 6:42Wonderful relaxation starting from your eyelids going down
- 6:46into your jaw, finding it easier to breathe in deeper and out for
- 6:53longer. Scan your body for any clues of
- 6:58tension and imagine breathing in that.
- 7:02Resourceful feeling of relaxation.
- 7:06And as you exhale. Feel.
- 7:10Any tension melting away and leaving your body.
- 7:15In that outward. Breath.
- 7:26The deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you become, And the more
- 7:31relaxed you become, the deeper you breathe.
- 7:47I want you to use the power of your imagination to just imagine
- 7:56a glowing light hovering above your head, emitting wonderful
- 8:06resources. Feel the warmth of the light,
- 8:12almost like you're bathing in that light.
- 8:20And I wonder if you could imagine a wonderful sense that
- 8:28that light is melting away any tension, releasing any tension,
- 8:36the light touches and feeling floating down through your face,
- 8:43your neck, your shoulders, all the way down into your arms,
- 8:49bringing a wave of ripples of calmness from your head
- 8:57downwards. And this light continues to
- 9:01spread down your chest, into your back, down your legs, all
- 9:08the way down to your toes. And imagine this light as an
- 9:16energy that resonates at a cellular level.
- 9:20You are relaxing from the top of your head all the way down to
- 9:24the tips of your fingers and the tips of your toes.
- 9:28And as your body relaxes, your imagination awakens, and I
- 9:37wonder if you could imagine standing right at the beginning
- 9:48of a forest, maybe the kind of forest that you can recall from
- 9:54your childhood that used to collect berries.
- 10:00The air is fresh, there's a coolness, and maybe you can hear
- 10:08the gentle rustling of leaves, the distant sound of birds
- 10:15singing or chatting to each other.
- 10:20And as you start to walk through the forest, feel that each step
- 10:25deeper into the forest is taking you into a deeper part of your
- 10:32subconscious mind, the part where change happens.
- 10:40With every step, your mind quiets and your body relaxes.
- 10:46Feel the sensation, the sounds that every step you take takes
- 10:55you deeper and deeper, relaxed, going further, deeper into the
- 11:01forest. Continue down into the forest
- 11:08until you find a clearing. Allow this clearing to be a calm
- 11:19and peaceful place. And I wonder if in this clearing
- 11:27of the forest, surrounded by nature, you can focus on the
- 11:33power of your breath. Breathing and relaxation.
- 11:40Breathing out worries, worries of what if?
- 11:49What if there's a mistake? What if it doesn't work out?
- 11:54All of those what ifs. Feel free to release them now.
- 12:07I want you to imagine a stream now appears in that clearing of
- 12:14the forest and you'll know the recurring thoughts, the
- 12:23recurring worries, those niggling thoughts that have come
- 12:28back more. Than once.
- 12:32I want you to try and think them, but as the thought
- 12:36appears, imagine it leaving your head and turning into a leaf and
- 12:44place a leaf on the stream and watch it as it floats away.
- 12:52Think of historical fears and worries and concerns as you
- 12:56think of them. Turn them into a leaf and place
- 13:00it on the surface of that fast flowing stream and watch as the
- 13:07stream carries those thoughts, worries and fears away.
- 13:15One by one they drift away leaving your mind clear and
- 13:21still and feel an ever growing acceptance that it's OK not to
- 13:32have all of the answers, not to pre empt everything that happens
- 13:37in the future because nobody can.
- 13:44That it's OK to make a decision and learn as you go.
- 13:51You don't need to be perfect, just take the very next step.
- 14:00If when you woke up in the morning you had to wonder what
- 14:04you're three hundredth thing you would do, you might not do
- 14:12anything. So instead we get through each
- 14:16day with a broad idea of priorities and doing whatever
- 14:22needs to be done in the order that it needs to be done, making
- 14:27it manageable. You can eat a spoonful of food
- 14:35at a time, but you couldn't eat a whole meal in one bite but by
- 14:42chunking it down. It's manageable.
- 14:49And this big thing you've been thinking about doesn't have to
- 14:53be eaten in one bite. You get to go through it one
- 15:02step at a time. I want you to imagine living in
- 15:11a future city, town or place and imagine yourself on an early
- 15:19morning walk. Imagine the temperature, how
- 15:29much sunshine there is in the sky.
- 15:33Maybe it's even before sunrise. Imagine feeling the ground
- 15:39beneath your feet, feel the sense of being steady and
- 15:44grounded with each step, and notice that the rhythm of your
- 15:50steps feels like it's having a calming effect on your mind, but
- 16:01also it connects you to your body.
- 16:05By noticing your steps and noticing your breath, you become
- 16:10free of any thoughts, any analysis, and start to feel
- 16:17present. Maybe you can see trees on this
- 16:25early morning walk. A child would say that all the
- 16:31leaves are green, but I want you to notice that that isn't true.
- 16:37There is 1000 different shades of green, but also lots of other
- 16:42colors. A single tree.
- 16:48Has so many different things to notice and I want you to feel
- 16:53that you are unlocking a new level of mindfulness and we can
- 17:00call mindfulness simply noticing.
- 17:07The more things you notice, sounds, smells, tastes and
- 17:12things to see, changes in texture and colours, the more
- 17:18mindful you're being. And the more mindful you are,
- 17:24the more you are escaping the trap of analysis paralysis and
- 17:30overthinking. And what if by not thinking, you
- 17:39facilitate a different form of thinking?
- 17:45And maybe that's the thinking that you really need.
- 17:55Feel the wonderful sense of being free.
- 18:00Free from overthinking and free from doubts.
- 18:06Free from worries and free from what ifs.
- 18:13I want you to imagine exploring a local park and notice a cup of
- 18:20berries in your hand. Elderberries, blackberries.
- 18:29Notice the colour, the shade, the structure of those berries.
- 18:39Imagine tasting one. Maybe it's sweet, maybe tart or
- 18:45bitter, but you're reminded of the simple joys of life as you
- 18:55feel present, appreciating the beauty of nature, textures,
- 19:01colours and sensations. Each moment spent in this place
- 19:08that we can call noticing or mindfulness strengthens your
- 19:13ability to break free from analysis paralysis.
- 19:21The more you move your body, the more mindful you're being as you
- 19:27find yourself inspired to embrace movement, Exercise,
- 19:33meditation, anything that connects your body with your
- 19:38breath. Imagine now doing just enough
- 19:48research to make a decision, just like Goldilocks.
- 19:53Not too much, but not too little, just enough.
- 19:58And then imagine taking decisive, bold action.
- 20:05That you trust yourself to learn from the experience, knowing
- 20:10that every decision can lead to growth.
- 20:14Even if you make a mistake. You remind yourself that
- 20:19mistakes are simply opportunities to choose again.
- 20:24But better to learn and to grow and imagine in that same park,
- 20:36with a cup of berries still in your hand.
- 20:40I want you to imagine seeing a young girl playing freely, maybe
- 20:45about four years old. Allow this girl to remind you of
- 20:51who you were when you were that age.
- 20:59She's laughing, running, and also has the same cup that you
- 21:04have and she's picking berries. See qualities that you admire in
- 21:17this girl. Curious, adventurous.
- 21:27I want you to get a sense. Then you want to connect with
- 21:33this young girl. Imagine walking over to her.
- 21:45Bring yourself down to her level where your eyes are the same
- 21:48height as the horizon. Compliment her on her bury
- 21:54collection. Ask if she wants to have one of
- 21:58yours. Imagine looking into her eyes
- 22:06and telling her that she is free to explore, to play and to make
- 22:17wonderful adventures, and to let her know that a true adventure
- 22:28means there's risks. Without risk, there is no
- 22:33adventure, that mistakes can lead to wonderful new
- 22:44possibilities, that it all happens for good reasons.
- 22:54Tell her she is free to make mistakes, to not be perfect, and
- 23:05see her expression change as it feels like a weight has been
- 23:09lifted. She can be more of the person
- 23:14she already is, free from the worry of making mistakes and
- 23:20free from the worry of ridicule. Mistakes are necessary because
- 23:29it leads to wisdom, and wisdom leads to better decisions, and
- 23:34better decisions lead to less mistakes.
- 23:38Tell her the mistakes not just acceptable, they're necessary,
- 23:48and see her look even more relaxed.
- 23:54And these berries are berries of resourcefulness.
- 24:01Your berries contain the resources that this child needs,
- 24:05and her berries contain something that you had as a
- 24:09child you've lost connection with.
- 24:13Imagine tasting one of her berries as she tastes one of
- 24:16yours. She is accessing your resources
- 24:20that you have that she doesn't, and maybe you're accessing a
- 24:30wonderful feeling of freedom, playfulness, curiosity, or
- 24:38something else that you've lost connection with.
- 24:42It's more than just a Berry. It's like one of the foods from
- 24:48Alice in Wonderland. A vehicle to create change and
- 24:58as you eat the Berry, feel the change taking place within you.
- 25:02Something locked has been unlocked.
- 25:06The door of resourcefulness has been opened, freeing you of
- 25:12something that's been holding you back for many years.
- 25:20But before you leave this park and this child, tell her that
- 25:23she is loved, she is worthy, she will have a wonderful life.
- 25:31Give her a hug and then as you go, find yourself back in the
- 25:38forest, but leaving the forest, leaving the forest and leaving
- 25:45the stream with those leaves still floating all the way down.
- 25:51I want you to get a sense then all of that paralysis from all
- 25:57of that overthinking is melting away like the icicles melting
- 26:06after a thaw. Feel a sense of liberation,
- 26:13freedom of possibility, and hold on to that and bring it back
- 26:19with you as you return to the here and now.
- 26:22Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 26:27nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 26:30your toes. Calibrate with the here and now
- 26:32fully in the moment as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 26:38awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 26:46456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 26:51Open your eyes, 910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 26:57awake. Thank you for listening to The
