- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Monday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal, and we are here to tell you the
- 0:06Speaker 1: craziness of this season continues every week. It's something else. Now.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Over the weekend I was in Chicago at Guaranteed Great
- 0:16Speaker 1: Field for the White Sox and Guardians, and the White
- 0:19Speaker 1: Sox rallied to win two of three after losing four
- 0:21Speaker 1: straight overall. Remember they were swept in Boston and then
- 0:24Speaker 1: they came back, lost to the Guardians in the first
- 0:27Speaker 1: game in this series, and then won the next two.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So here is the AL Central, a team or a
- 0:33Speaker 1: division where the Tigers sold their best pitcher, the best
- 0:37Speaker 1: pitcher in the sport, and another highly regarded pitcher, a
- 0:41Speaker 1: division in which the Minnesota Twins traded pretty much their
- 0:44Speaker 1: whole team last year. And all these teams are still
- 0:49Speaker 1: in contention except for Kansas City, a club that we
- 0:52Speaker 1: all expected, well maybe not everybody, but a lot of
- 0:55Speaker 1: us expected would be in contention this season. Now, the
- 0:59Speaker 1: White Sox, the big question with them is going to
- 1:01Speaker 1: be can they're pitching survive this. They've got a lot
- 1:04Speaker 1: of guys who are really doing this for the first time.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Over the weekend, they made a couple of interesting moves.
- 1:10Speaker 1: They brought up two of their top prospects who have
- 1:13Speaker 1: pitching or have been pitching in relief in the minor leagues,
- 1:16Speaker 1: Hagen Smith and Tanne McDougall. Brought them up to serve
- 1:21Speaker 1: as relievers, help out in the bullpen, take some pressure
- 1:24Speaker 1: off guys like Grant Taylor. Smith made his debut yesterday
- 1:27Speaker 1: pitched well. So the White Sox, as they have all season,
- 1:32Speaker 1: showed resilience. They're a really young team and yet nothing
- 1:36Speaker 1: seems to phase them. Of course, it helps playing in
- 1:38Speaker 1: the American League Central. It helps playing in the American League.
- 1:42Speaker 1: The Guardians are a team I really like. I like
- 1:45Speaker 1: what they did at the deadline, Joe Adell, Nathaniel Lowe
- 1:48Speaker 1: coming in, Foster Griffin joining the rotation, and they have
- 1:53Speaker 1: a trio of starting pitchers now with Griffin, Gavin Williams,
- 1:57Speaker 1: Parker Messek and Griffin that is probably one of the
- 2:00Speaker 1: most formidable in the game. Offense continues to be a challenge.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Jose Ramirez coming off the hamdmade surgery. He told me
- 2:07Speaker 1: over the weekend he sort of rushed back. He did
- 2:10Speaker 1: that to help the team, and obviously he has not
- 2:13Speaker 1: been the same since then. There are the Tigers. The
- 2:17Speaker 1: Tigers who do these things seemingly every other year, where
- 2:21Speaker 1: they sell and they still compete. Here they go again
- 2:25Speaker 1: seven and two on their West coast trip to Sacramento, Seattle,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and San Francisco. Admittedly against weaker or struggling opponents. Five
- 2:33Speaker 1: and two since the trade of Scooble, Dodgers haven't done
- 2:37Speaker 1: that well, not even close. Tigers are now in second
- 2:40Speaker 1: place in the Division, three and a half back in
- 2:43Speaker 1: the wildcard race. They're one game back, so they've got
- 2:46Speaker 1: a shot, a good shot. Jackson job now in the rotation.
- 2:50Speaker 1: They're excited too about Drew Anderson becoming a starting pitcher.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He's been in relief most of the years. So the
- 2:57Speaker 1: Tigers felt when they made the trades, obviously it wasn't
- 3:00Speaker 1: going to be the same without schoogl and Casey miz
- 3:03Speaker 1: but they felt okay, Jackson job onces one of the
- 3:06Speaker 1: top prospects in the sport coming off Tommy John surgery,
- 3:09Speaker 1: he would help. Same goes for Drew Anderson, who they
- 3:12Speaker 1: expect to be in the rotation next year. And finally,
- 3:15Speaker 1: the Twins. Now the Twins are struggling three and six
- 3:18Speaker 1: on their road trip to Seattle, Kansas City, and Milwaukee.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Five of those losses in that road trip were by
- 3:25Speaker 1: one run. So it's been close for the Twins. They've
- 3:28Speaker 1: been right there, just haven't done it. They'd game and
- 3:31Speaker 1: a half out in the wild Card. So the Central
- 3:34Speaker 1: looks to be a fascinating race down the stretch. We're
- 3:38Speaker 1: going to have the White Sox trying to hold on,
- 3:40Speaker 1: the Guardians trying to do what they always do, which
- 3:42Speaker 1: is kind of rally in the end and keep it
- 3:45Speaker 1: together and hopefully with their additions, become a better Guardians
- 3:49Speaker 1: team than maybe even in the past. An hell Hanau
- 3:52Speaker 1: is a really interesting player. They brought him up last week.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And then of course the Twins and the Tigers, and
- 3:59Speaker 1: the Tigers that we just talked about, they're quite an
- 4:03Speaker 1: interesting club down the stretch. So that's the AL Central.
- 4:06Speaker 1: We also had some action over the weekend off the
- 4:09Speaker 1: field action in the NL West. Now, if you recall
- 4:12Speaker 1: it the deadline, there are a lot of teams always
- 4:14Speaker 1: that don't fill all of their needs. The Padres were one.
- 4:18Speaker 1: They didn't get the right handed bat they were looking for.
- 4:20Speaker 1: The Diamondbacks were another. They thought they had a deal
- 4:23Speaker 1: for Clay Holmes, as reported by Nick piccorro of the
- 4:26Speaker 1: Arizona Republic, but it fell apart when one of the
- 4:29Speaker 1: players going back to the Mets, the Mets flagged as medical.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So you see the exclusive that Nick picccorro had there.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I don't know that a lot of people around the
- 4:38Speaker 1: country are aware that this happened. So the Diamondbacks didn't
- 4:41Speaker 1: get a starter, and they badly needed one. They're still
- 4:44Speaker 1: waiting for Corbyn Burns and for Zach Gowan. Mike Siroka
- 4:48Speaker 1: comes off the injured list tonight. So what the Diamondbacks
- 4:51Speaker 1: did was claim Zach Lettel and he's a guy who
- 4:56Speaker 1: had struggles this season with the Washington Nationals, but he
- 5:00Speaker 1: should help them. The Padres they acquired or signed Austin
- 5:06Speaker 1: Hayes to a major league deal. He had been dfad
- 5:08Speaker 1: as well by his team, the Chicago White Sox after
- 5:12Speaker 1: kind of an injury plagued weird year. He just hadn't
- 5:15Speaker 1: gotten going. He'd been hurt, calf hamster and you name it.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So Austin Hayes joins the Padres last night. They've been
- 5:21Speaker 1: horrible against left handed pitching. They badly need a right
- 5:25Speaker 1: handed hitting outfielder, and what does he do. He hits
- 5:27Speaker 1: a home run in the eighth inning. So those two
- 5:30Speaker 1: teams doing some interesting things. And the Dodgers now they're
- 5:34Speaker 1: not going to lose the division, but they have lost
- 5:37Speaker 1: eight of nine and there are some questions here. Edwin
- 5:40Speaker 1: Diaz is now a big question in that series against
- 5:44Speaker 1: the Diamondbacks this weekend, in which the Dodgers lost two
- 5:47Speaker 1: of three, lost the season series to the Diamondbacks for
- 5:49Speaker 1: the first time since twenty eighteen. Diez blew two saves
- 5:54Speaker 1: and actually the Diamondbacks should have swept this series. Back
- 5:57Speaker 1: to back triples leading off the ninth in Saturday night's game,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and yet after tying the score, they could not get
- 6:05Speaker 1: the go ahead run home or the winning run home,
- 6:07Speaker 1: even with a man on third and none out. So
- 6:11Speaker 1: the Dodgers they've got the DS question. Will Smith is
- 6:14Speaker 1: still not back, some of their players are older. We
- 6:17Speaker 1: know that they're not performing right now as they should.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It's going to be interesting to see whether they can
- 6:24Speaker 1: kick it up again in October. This is what they've
- 6:27Speaker 1: done the last few years, kind of slow played the season,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and they're still waiting for Tyler Glass now to come
- 6:32Speaker 1: back of course, Blake Snell is back, so we'll see
- 6:36Speaker 1: what the Dodgers are. I fully expect them, of course,
- 6:39Speaker 1: to be in the playoffs. Do I expect them to
- 6:41Speaker 1: rampage through and win the third World Series in a row.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I don't know that I necessarily expect that.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I know this is a busy time of year for
- 6:50Speaker 2: many of you, including AJ. When you're home, you need
- 6:52Speaker 2: everything to get done fast with quality.

- 7:49Speaker 1: Finally, staying in the West, Seattle Mariners. This team when
- 7:54Speaker 1: we look at this season, if it ended today, when
- 7:59Speaker 1: we listed the most disappointed teams or would list them,
- 8:02Speaker 1: the Mets certainly would be of course right up there.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Seattle would not be far behind. Seattle, in fact, in
- 8:08Speaker 1: some ways is the most disappointing. They're coming off a
- 8:12Speaker 1: season in which they went to Game seven of the ALCS.
- 8:15Speaker 1: They added Brendan Donovan, they added some other pieces as well.
- 8:20Speaker 1: We all thought this would be a team that was
- 8:23Speaker 1: really primed to go to the World Series and win
- 8:26Speaker 1: their first World Series in franchise history. Not happening. It's
- 8:31Speaker 1: swept this weekend by Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay has won
- 8:33Speaker 1: sixth straight. And you look at Seattle now, they are
- 8:35Speaker 1: four games out. As we see right there, they are
- 8:38Speaker 1: falling fast. Three and six on their nine game homestand
- 8:42Speaker 1: nine and nineteen since July seventh, nine to nineteen. That's
- 8:47Speaker 1: the second worst record in Major League Baseball during that time.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And why is this happening? It's happening because the Mariners,
- 8:55Speaker 1: after tying for ninth last season in runs, they are
- 9:00Speaker 1: last in the majors, last in runs per game. The
- 9:03Speaker 1: team with Cal Raleigh and Josh Naylor and Randy A.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Rosarina and Julio Rodriguez, all these star caliber offensive players,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and it's not happening. Now. Why it's not happening is
- 9:17Speaker 1: probably a combination of reasons. Let's start with Raleigh. He's
- 9:20Speaker 1: their sixty homer guy. He's got twelve, he's got a
- 9:24Speaker 1: five to seventy one ops. And yes, I do buy
- 9:27Speaker 1: the theory that he was disrupted in spring training when
- 9:31Speaker 1: during the WBC he didn't get a lot of playing time.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He wasn't playing a lot. Then he had the oblique
- 9:36Speaker 1: miss some time. His season has been disjointed, and he
- 9:39Speaker 1: just has not gotten going yet. The other thing this
- 9:42Speaker 1: was mentioned to me by someone who had been with
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Marriners this week, was remember they made the move
- 9:49Speaker 1: they brought up Colt Emerson, their top prospect they had
- 9:52Speaker 1: signed to a big contract, moved into shortstop JP Crawford
- 9:56Speaker 1: to third base. It was the right move to do. Ever,
- 9:59Speaker 1: since is the better defensive shortstop at this juncture, of
- 10:03Speaker 1: their careers, his in Crawford's, and Crawford took it well.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I wrote a whole story about how Crawford really handled
- 10:09Speaker 1: this like an ultimate professional and did something that in
- 10:13Speaker 1: this free agent year was hard to do, switch positions.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But it seems like because Emerson has struggled, and because
- 10:20Speaker 1: Crawford is such a big person in that clubhouse, so popular,
- 10:24Speaker 1: maybe that's contributed to some of this too, that it's
- 10:27Speaker 1: a little unsettled. We bring up this kid, he's not hitting.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'm not sure. I don't know. I'm not in that clubhouse.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But they've had some things going on. And again I'm
- 10:36Speaker 1: not suggesting there is dissension or anything like that, but
- 10:39Speaker 1: it's a different dynamic, that's what I'm saying. So the
- 10:42Speaker 1: Mariners they're four out, as we mentioned, behind Houston, three
- 10:46Speaker 1: and a half behind Texas in the Ale West, and
- 10:48Speaker 1: now the schedule gets really hard for them. Listen to this.
- 10:54Speaker 1: They now start a trip to New York for the Yankees,
- 10:57Speaker 1: Houston for the Astros that will be a big sity,
- 11:00Speaker 1: and Milwaukee for the Brewers. Good luck. Then they come
- 11:03Speaker 1: home and they've got the Cubs and Phillies right away.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So this is it. For the Mariners, this is probably
- 11:10Speaker 1: the key stretch of their season, the season or the
- 11:13Speaker 1: stretch that will decide whether they are contenders or whether
- 11:17Speaker 1: they are simply going to be a team that sputters
- 11:20Speaker 1: and doesn't have the season that we all envisioned for them.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So there you have it, AL Central, NL West, AL West.
- 11:27Speaker 1: We've got more on the AL West in the Inside Dish,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and that's coming back right after this time. Now for
- 11:40Speaker 1: the Inside Dish, the part of the show where I
- 11:41Speaker 1: talk about story I've written, trend in the game, something
- 11:44Speaker 1: else going on entirely, And today I want to talk
- 11:47Speaker 1: about a story I wrote that I published this morning
- 11:50Speaker 1: in The Athletic about the Angels and their trade deadline.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Now people often ask me, Ken, Hey, what do you
- 11:58Speaker 1: like doing better TV? Writing? Well, writing is what I've
- 12:02Speaker 1: always done, and that really is, I guess what I
- 12:04Speaker 1: would consider my home. But of course I enjoy both,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and what I often say to people is both play
- 12:11Speaker 1: hand in hand with each other. So sometimes when I'm
- 12:14Speaker 1: working on something for television, it will turn into a story.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Sometimes when I'm writing a story, it's something I later
- 12:21Speaker 1: can use on television. Now, this particular story today, the
- 12:26Speaker 1: one I published. Mike Trout brought the Angels to his
- 12:28Speaker 1: private golf club for team bonding, and then the trades began.
- 12:32Speaker 1: This began with a simple conversation I had with jo
- 12:35Speaker 1: Adell on Friday afternoon in Chicago. Jodell, of course, just
- 12:40Speaker 1: traded from the Angels to the Guardians, and I asked him,
- 12:43Speaker 1: as I often asked players after they get traded or
- 12:46Speaker 1: call to the big leagues, Hey, what was that? Like?
- 12:49Speaker 1: What was the experience? Like? How did you get the news?
- 12:52Speaker 1: And Jodell told me something that just kind of shocked me.
- 12:56Speaker 1: He said, well, I was on the seventh hole at
- 12:59Speaker 1: Trout and I got the call and it was crazy.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And then he went on to explain exactly what had happened.
- 13:07Speaker 1: That a number of Angels players were at Mike Trout's private, exclusive,
- 13:12Speaker 1: invitation only golf club in Millville, New Jersey, South Jersey.
- 13:16Speaker 1: It had been an off day. They'd just flown east.
- 13:19Speaker 1: They had a serious starting in Baltimore the following day,
- 13:22Speaker 1: so they bust up. The players. About a dozen of
- 13:26Speaker 1: them stay at Trout's house the night before home in Millville,
- 13:30Speaker 1: and then they went to this golf outing and then
- 13:33Speaker 1: they had some coaches and staffers. They took a bus
- 13:35Speaker 1: up from Baltimore, about a two hour drive to the
- 13:39Speaker 1: golf course, and they joined in on the fund the
- 13:41Speaker 1: next day. Well, when Trout planned the trip the outing
- 13:47Speaker 1: at the time, this was in spring training, he said
- 13:49Speaker 1: he didn't realize that it was going to be the
- 13:52Speaker 1: day of the deadline. And of course, if you're Mike Trout,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you played for the Angels all these years, you're not
- 13:59Speaker 1: expecting the Angels to sell big. They never sell big. Well,
- 14:04Speaker 1: the story is about how they sold big, and how
- 14:08Speaker 1: three of the players received the news while they were
- 14:11Speaker 1: on the course. That would have been Brent Souter, Joe
- 14:14Speaker 1: adell As I mentioned, and Ryan Zephyr John and then
- 14:17Speaker 1: another player, Kirby Yates, who didn't expect to get traded
- 14:20Speaker 1: at all. As he put it, I'm a thirty nine
- 14:22Speaker 1: year old guy throwing ninety miles an hour. They're in
- 14:25Speaker 1: cars going back to Trout's house. Some guys went back
- 14:27Speaker 1: to the house, some guys went right back to Baltimore,
- 14:30Speaker 1: and he gets the news too. Now, the one other
- 14:34Speaker 1: guy who was traded, Jose Soriano, was not on the trip.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He doesn't play golf, so he was back in the
- 14:40Speaker 1: hotel in Baltimore when he got the news. So I
- 14:43Speaker 1: wrote this story. I actually had to work fairly quickly
- 14:47Speaker 1: to get it done for today because Adele told me
- 14:49Speaker 1: this On Friday, I contacted Suitor and Yates. The Athletic
- 14:55Speaker 1: Sahata Sharma got in touch or was with the Cubs,
- 14:58Speaker 1: so he talked to Ryan Zephyr John And then yesterday
- 15:01Speaker 1: the Angels pr staff did a really great job connecting
- 15:04Speaker 1: me with Trout after their game against Miami, and I
- 15:07Speaker 1: just needed a few details from Mike and just a
- 15:10Speaker 1: few questions. So it's a story that obviously came out
- 15:14Speaker 1: of my work for television for Fox Sports, but proved
- 15:19Speaker 1: to be a good story I think for the Athletic.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Certainly one of the craziest trade stories I've heard, and
- 15:26Speaker 1: I've heard a lot over the years, obviously, and certainly
- 15:29Speaker 1: last year was one of them. You remember last year
- 15:32Speaker 1: with the Minnesota Twins when they tore it down and
- 15:35Speaker 1: they traded Carlos Correa. They traded really their entire bullpen,
- 15:39Speaker 1: and I later found out that the entire group of
- 15:42Speaker 1: relievers was together. They were kind of hanging out together,
- 15:46Speaker 1: I guess, at a hotel room watching TV watching the
- 15:49Speaker 1: trades go down and one by one they got picked off.
- 15:53Speaker 1: This was kind of the same type of thing, except
- 15:56Speaker 1: the players were golfing. They were enjoying this lovely day
- 15:59Speaker 1: at Trout National, this amazing course designed by Tiger Woods,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and this Trout put it. Every three or four holes,
- 16:07Speaker 1: someone got a call. So when it comes to trade deadline,
- 16:12Speaker 1: you never know what's going to happen. I tell people
- 16:13Speaker 1: this every year. You guys hear me to tell it.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Say this. Every year, things will happen that will make
- 16:18Speaker 1: your head spin that you don't expect. If you look
- 16:21Speaker 1: at any number of trades this year. I talked about
- 16:24Speaker 1: this on the show last week. How many of them
- 16:27Speaker 1: were actually predicted in all the stories we write and
- 16:30Speaker 1: all the things we do trying to match up teams
- 16:32Speaker 1: and figure out who's doing what. Nothing, None of them.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I don't know that anyone trade other than Trek Schoogle
- 16:39Speaker 1: was predicted. And a lot of people, of course, did
- 16:41Speaker 1: think Schooble was going to the Dodgers. Not many people thought,
- 16:45Speaker 1: if any, that Adley Rushman was going to the Red Sox,
- 16:48Speaker 1: classic example, and then right down the line, all the
- 16:51Speaker 1: other trades were kind of surprising. What was so cool
- 16:55Speaker 1: about this story for me was that it was just
- 17:00Speaker 1: a fun story, and these guys will remember if forever.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Kirby Yates said, it was an amazing thing. We were
- 17:05Speaker 1: all wondering who was next. And a lot of times
- 17:08Speaker 1: in baseball, cool stuff happens off the field or crazy
- 17:11Speaker 1: stuff happens off the field that we find out later.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And again, this was a lot of fun to work
- 17:16Speaker 1: on and a lot of fun to write. MLB on
- 17:23Speaker 1: Fox is streaming on Fox one. The Race to October

- 17:34Speaker 1: involving the Phillies, and the Phillies did a lot in
- 17:37Speaker 1: the deadline. Obviously, they brought in Luisa Rise, We constructed
- 17:41Speaker 1: their entire position player roster, and they're an interesting team.
- 17:46Speaker 1: They're three and three since they've had some poor pitching performances.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Andrew Painter goes tonight and he is going to obviously
- 17:53Speaker 1: be a key guy for the Phillies going forward because
- 17:55Speaker 1: they didn't get a starter. He's facing Hunter Dobbins. Now,
- 17:58Speaker 1: as I was saying, m'll be on Fox. They're streaming

- 18:33Speaker 1: of the show where I answer your questions. Let's get
- 18:35Speaker 1: to them right away. First question comes from Mike, who
- 18:40Speaker 1: asks why a Seattle's still been so hesitant or stubborn
- 18:43Speaker 1: to trade one of Kirby Gilbert Miller Wu Hancock for
- 18:46Speaker 1: significant offensive upgrades, especially with Kate Anderson and Ryan Sloan
- 18:50Speaker 1: coming soon. Well, they did trade Lewis Castillo. Now they
- 18:54Speaker 1: didn't get an offensive upgrade there. They got another reliever,
- 18:57Speaker 1: Sir Anthony Dominguez, and then acquire Taylor in a separate trade.
- 19:01Speaker 1: So it's not like they didn't do anything to upgrade
- 19:04Speaker 1: their offense. And it's not like they didn't listen on
- 19:08Speaker 1: George Kirby and Emerson at Hancock, they did, but they
- 19:11Speaker 1: set the bar high, and it's always dangerous to trade
- 19:15Speaker 1: starting pitching because you might compromise your depth, and ultimately
- 19:18Speaker 1: they didn't get the package they wanted. Now, you're right,
- 19:22Speaker 1: their offense isn't good enough. They're gonna lose a Rosa
- 19:25Speaker 1: Rain into free agency. Most likely they're gonna lose JP
- 19:28Speaker 1: Crawford to free agencies. So come the off season they
- 19:32Speaker 1: might be active again in listening on Kirby and Hancock
- 19:36Speaker 1: simply because they're gonna need to fill those holes, and
- 19:39Speaker 1: maybe they don't want to do it through free agency.
- 19:43Speaker 1: All right, Next question, let's see this comes from MC.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Why aren't the Rays getting the respect of national media
- 19:50Speaker 1: types even now? Folks are picking the Yankees of Boston
- 19:53Speaker 1: to win the AL East End or the AL. But
- 19:56Speaker 1: the Rays have been number one or number two all
- 19:58Speaker 1: season and have been the most concient team since mid April.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Points Well, taken, you are absolutely right, and I don't
- 20:05Speaker 1: know that they're not getting the respect from I guess
- 20:08Speaker 1: people like myself. They certainly get our attention, and I
- 20:13Speaker 1: wrote about them early in the season. I haven't written
- 20:15Speaker 1: about them much since. But early in the season I
- 20:17Speaker 1: wrote about how being back at the trap was energizing
- 20:21Speaker 1: to them, and they've played really well at the Trap
- 20:23Speaker 1: all year, and they deserve the respect that you're talking
- 20:27Speaker 1: about Nick Martinez and Drew Rasmusson in that rotation with
- 20:31Speaker 1: Jane McClanahan, and they've got a good thing going and
- 20:35Speaker 1: offensively they're always going to be a little bit short,
- 20:37Speaker 1: but the trade for Liam Hicks should help. And obviously
- 20:42Speaker 1: they have played the best of all these teams this season.
- 20:45Speaker 1: You look there at some of their statistics, So the
- 20:47Speaker 1: Rays obviously have everyone's respect. Do they get the attention
- 20:52Speaker 1: that those other teams do? Know, they don't play in
- 20:54Speaker 1: the same kind of market. That's kind of the reality
- 20:56Speaker 1: of how baseball is covered. I don't necessarily I try
- 21:01Speaker 1: to get to all thirty teams, and you know that
- 21:03Speaker 1: if you read me, people accuse me all the time
- 21:05Speaker 1: of writing only about this team or that. No, that's
- 21:08Speaker 1: not how it works. But do those teams in the
- 21:10Speaker 1: big markets get more attention? I don't know that anyone
- 21:13Speaker 1: would question that. That's the simple reality of it, all, right.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Next question, Evattasher asked, do you think that the Cubs
- 21:20Speaker 1: can catch the Brewers. Interesting question. I would say no,
- 21:24Speaker 1: simply because the Brewers really have not dipped. They have
- 21:28Speaker 1: played extremely well all season long. I liked what they
- 21:31Speaker 1: did at the deadline. They supplemented a pitching staff that
- 21:35Speaker 1: needed some supplementation, Dustin May, Jojo Romero who's still out
- 21:39Speaker 1: with an appendectomy, Antonio Sanztela. They should be down the
- 21:44Speaker 1: stretch pretty strong from their pitching perspective. As long as
- 21:48Speaker 1: they stay healthy. They may have to build in some
- 21:51Speaker 1: extra days from Mizzarawski and Harrison, of course, has had
- 21:53Speaker 1: his issues Johann this is uncharted territory for him, but
- 21:58Speaker 1: they're in good shape now. The question I guess would be,
- 22:01Speaker 1: are the Cubs good enough to mount this kind of
- 22:04Speaker 1: crazy surge that they had early in the season to
- 22:07Speaker 1: catch the Brewers. My guess is the answer to that
- 22:11Speaker 1: is no. But the Cubs are playing very high level
- 22:15Speaker 1: right now. They too make terrific moves of the deadline
- 22:18Speaker 1: in my estimation, at least in the short term. Look
- 22:21Speaker 1: Gossman and Clay Holmes. Gosman at a terrific first start.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Holmes not so good, but he's just coming back from
- 22:27Speaker 1: the fractored phibia and It seems to me the Cubs,
- 22:31Speaker 1: with Zephyr John joining the bullpen as well, have done
- 22:34Speaker 1: as well as they can to reinforce a pitching staff
- 22:38Speaker 1: that has been plagued by injuries the entire season. So
- 22:40Speaker 1: I don't necessarily expect them to catch the Brewers. The
- 22:43Speaker 1: gap is pretty significant for this time of year. But
- 22:47Speaker 1: do I think the Cubs could be a force in
- 22:50Speaker 1: the playoffs, maybe even go further than the Brewers. Yes,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I do, all right, I believe you have time for
- 22:55Speaker 1: one more. Yeah, let's do it. Zachary Goldstein asked why
- 22:58Speaker 1: does the Yankees offense continue think they have an E
- 23:01Speaker 1: League pitching staff, but it doesn't feel like the offense
- 23:03Speaker 1: is ever clicking. Hello, do you know who is on
- 23:06Speaker 1: the injured list? That Aaron Judge guy is on the
- 23:09Speaker 1: injured list as well as that gian Carlos Stanton guy,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and that Cody Bellinger guy. And really, once Judge went
- 23:16Speaker 1: out June first, the offense for about a week or so,
- 23:20Speaker 1: it was okay, but it hasn't been the same since.
- 23:23Speaker 1: And you pluck a big time hitter, a superstar, one
- 23:27Speaker 1: of the best hitters in the game, out of an offense,
- 23:29Speaker 1: it affects everyone, and it just puts the pressure on
- 23:33Speaker 1: the other guys. It requires them to do things that
- 23:36Speaker 1: they normally might not do to keep the offense at
- 23:39Speaker 1: the same level. And for the Yankees, it hasn't happened.
- 23:42Speaker 1: They have struggled offensively at different points here. They've actually
- 23:46Speaker 1: kept their heads above water pretty well in my opinion.
- 23:49Speaker 1: But clearly this is not the offense that it is
- 23:53Speaker 1: with Aaron Judge. And yeah, they acquired Ramos at the deadline,
- 23:57Speaker 1: and they acquired Garcia. Junior's helpful and George Lombard Junior
- 24:02Speaker 1: has given them a shot of adrenaline here. But they
- 24:05Speaker 1: need Judge back, and it sounds like he's coming back.
- 24:09Speaker 1: He says he's coming back. He doesn't see any reason
- 24:11Speaker 1: why he's not coming back, but it's a rib and
- 24:14Speaker 1: we'll see how he is once he returns. I wouldn't
- 24:17Speaker 1: expect it before late August, maybe early September. All Right,
- 24:21Speaker 1: that's the show, and thank you everyone for watching for listening.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Foul Territory coming up at one pm Eastern hosts Aj Persinski,
