- 0:00Speaker 1: But it's an absurdly dramatic differences between show. Today is
- 0:05Speaker 1: the rest of the one hundred and sixty two game schedule.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Welcome into North Side Territory, Fouel Territory Networks Cubs Podcast.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I'm Sahad Sharma with my partner Patrick Mooney, were your
- 0:21Speaker 2: Cubs beat writers over at the Athletic and Patrick, it
- 0:24Speaker 2: is time for our twenty twenty four year interview show.
- 0:30Speaker 2: It was a disappointing season ultimately, right, but it's not
- 0:36Speaker 2: It wasn't short on news or interesting tidbit. I mean,
- 0:42Speaker 2: I think the first first thing that we talk about
- 0:45Speaker 2: is it didn't happen in twenty twenty four, but it's
- 0:49Speaker 2: part of this season, this year's story, and that's Craig
- 0:53Speaker 2: Council hired as Cubs manager. You he was a free agent,
- 0:58Speaker 2: but they stole him manager from one of their biggest rivals,
- 1:03Speaker 2: the city that often is looked at as like Chicago's
- 1:09Speaker 2: little you know, Junior Chicago, whatever you want to call him.
- 1:14Speaker 2: They have, you know, a little little brother complex things
- 1:18Speaker 2: like that. Yeah, I doubt better than the Cubs for
- 1:21Speaker 2: multiple years now, and it was viewed as Craig Council
- 1:25Speaker 2: was a big reason why. I think we saw he
- 1:27Speaker 2: wasn't the only reason why this season, but that, like
- 1:32Speaker 2: you know, in our last episode that we talked about
- 1:35Speaker 2: shocking moments, this higher was the most shocking moment I
- 1:38Speaker 2: think you and I have covered and it will continue
- 1:41Speaker 2: to be a storyline going forward. Cubs winner loose.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it is just very very cubby occurrence to have
- 1:51Speaker 1: the team finished with eighty three wins under David Ross
- 1:54Speaker 1: and under Craig Council, and for the Brewers not lose
- 1:59Speaker 1: counts but trade away Corbyn Burns and not have Brandon
- 2:04Speaker 1: Woodruff available to pitch and still just boat race the division.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It was truly, Ah, just wild to kind of see
- 2:17Speaker 3: it unfold.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And you know, i'd ask you, son of what were
- 2:22Speaker 1: your first impressions of Craig Counsel as a guy to
- 2:26Speaker 1: deal with on virtually an everyday basis, from you know,
- 2:29Speaker 1: February until the end of September.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yeah, No, Council was fascinating to cover, different type of humor,
- 2:37Speaker 2: different type of You have to kind of feel comfortable
- 2:42Speaker 2: that he's not fully judging you with everything, right, because
- 2:46Speaker 2: you could very well feel like, oh no, I'm being
- 2:49Speaker 2: put on the spot here. Or he's a little mean
- 2:53Speaker 2: or things like that. I think has a very dry
- 2:56Speaker 2: sense of humor. He doesn't like he'll sometimes ask for
- 3:00Speaker 2: more from you with your questions, or he'll challenge you
- 3:03Speaker 2: on your questions, and if you don't have a way
- 3:06Speaker 2: to fully back it up right away, that's when you're
- 3:10Speaker 2: gonna start feeling a little embarrassed. H learned that, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 2: I think we all learned that very early on, Like
- 3:16Speaker 2: whether we had a way to back up our questions
- 3:18Speaker 2: or not. He you know, he's not afraid to put
- 3:22Speaker 2: you on the spot, but he also understands what our
- 3:25Speaker 2: job is. Like I learned that pretty quickly. Like it's
- 3:29Speaker 2: not like he's anti media or he can't give a
- 3:32Speaker 2: good answer. I mean, look at the end of the season,
- 3:35Speaker 2: the ninety you know, we need to be building ninety
- 3:38Speaker 2: win teams. I think shows us that this guy isn't
- 3:42Speaker 2: afraid of speaking his mind. Like that's I think the
- 3:45Speaker 2: biggest thing, and it's not just us. It go around
- 3:49Speaker 2: the clubhouse. He was honest to everyone, and he'd there
- 3:52Speaker 2: were things sometimes I think he said early on in
- 3:54Speaker 2: spring training that was like is that going to tick
- 3:57Speaker 2: that dude off? No, it's because he already told the
- 3:59Speaker 2: guy like he's told him, and he's like, I'm and like,
- 4:02Speaker 2: if I've told this guy this, I'm going to share
- 4:04Speaker 2: it with you. Guys. For the most part right there,
- 4:07Speaker 2: you don't say, but I found that interesting? How about you?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yeah, very similar experiences. I would say. Sometimes Craig helped
- 4:17Speaker 1: me spit out a question because even I'm like, what
- 4:19Speaker 1: are you talking about? What are you getting at? Then
- 4:22Speaker 1: there are other times there's just awkward to try to
- 4:24Speaker 1: explain your concept while the Marquee camera is going in
- 4:27Speaker 1: the rigally interview room and it looks like, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: arguing or something, but no, it's actually just like he
- 4:33Speaker 1: wants to know exactly what you're asking, which goes back
- 4:37Speaker 1: to your point of he and he understands our jobs
- 4:39Speaker 1: in a very like granular way. The story I'd like
- 4:45Speaker 1: to write, and I don't know how he could do
- 4:47Speaker 1: it is like you know, lots of people say, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: I agree with him that Craig counsels a lot more
- 4:52Speaker 1: humorous than you would think than the kind of dour
- 4:56Speaker 1: figure you saw and the Brewers dugout. And yet whenever
- 5:01Speaker 1: I ask someone for examples for it, it's very hard
- 5:04Speaker 1: to articulate. So maybe that is something when we're in
- 5:07Speaker 1: MESA next year we can try and get just a
- 5:11Speaker 1: couple of different anecdotes like that, because it's hard to
- 5:17Speaker 1: you know, if he tells us a funny story while
- 5:19Speaker 1: we're kind of chatting in the dugout, that's obviously like
- 5:22Speaker 1: not you know enough it is something off the wall.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It's more just you know, you know, that's amazing baseball career.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So he's like knows all these characters and has been
- 5:35Speaker 1: involved in so many big moments. It just doesn't really.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Come across.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But he's he's direct, he's detailed, he's organized, so like
- 5:46Speaker 1: no issues there.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, no good storyteller when when he's off the record too,
- 5:51Speaker 2: or even on the record. I remember someone Jim Leely
- 5:55Speaker 2: just got inducted into the Hall of Fame. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 2: any someone asked them about Jim Leland one day, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: he had great stories both on and off the record.
- 6:04Speaker 2: It was just just great stuff. I mean, you don't
- 6:06Speaker 2: see that as often as he used to, I think,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and and it was just fun to cover. So the
- 6:14Speaker 2: hiring of council, I think did something created dynamic for
- 6:21Speaker 2: this organization, right, And that's with the pressure on Jed Hoyer.
- 6:25Speaker 2: And guess what. The Cubs didn't deliver this year, like
- 6:28Speaker 2: you said, same as last year under our twenty twenty
- 6:31Speaker 2: three under ross eighty three wins. So now who does
- 6:34Speaker 2: it go to? Doesn't go to Craig Council. He's not
- 6:36Speaker 2: feeling the heat. Jed Hoyer in company are feeling the heat.
- 6:40Speaker 2: That's that's what that was a big part of, especially
- 6:44Speaker 2: with Maine June. Remember we go in that clubhouse after
- 6:47Speaker 2: these losses and everyone is like, it's gonna turn, It's
- 6:50Speaker 2: gonna turn, and eventually I'll never forget jameson ti On
- 6:52Speaker 2: in New Milwaukee saying he's like, you know, we've been
- 6:56Speaker 2: talking about how it's going to turn. And it was
- 6:58Speaker 2: a week, then it turned into a few weeks. Now
- 7:00Speaker 2: it's been two months, and he was just like, well, like,
- 7:05Speaker 2: we can't keep talking about it's going to turn, Like
- 7:07Speaker 2: we got to get it done. You know, they played better,
- 7:10Speaker 2: They didn't end up ten games under five hundred like
- 7:14Speaker 2: it was looking like it was going to be, but
- 7:16Speaker 2: not good enough, and that puts the pressure on Jed Hoyer,
- 7:19Speaker 2: Carter Hawkins and everyone else in that front office.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it immediately flipped the dynamic. It was
- 7:26Speaker 1: kind of wild how quickly, you know, the hot seat
- 7:32Speaker 1: job security questions flared up. And I think part of
- 7:37Speaker 1: that was an organizational issue of how they framed the
- 7:43Speaker 1: sell off at twenty twenty one. And you know, you
- 7:46Speaker 1: had Tom Ricketts on Marquee essentially saying we're going to
- 7:50Speaker 1: go right back out in the market and spend, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: you think, oh, maybe they'll just replace those guys with
- 7:56Speaker 1: free agents and you know, big time free.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Agents and get right back out there. That's not really
- 8:04Speaker 3: what happened.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And Jed saying, you know, I don't know what the
- 8:06Speaker 1: definition of a rebuild is was just an unforced silly
- 8:10Speaker 1: everybody created this kind of gray area, right, or this
- 8:13Speaker 1: like murkiness of well, what exactly are the Cubs doing?
- 8:16Speaker 1: When I think internally they had a pretty clear directive.
- 8:22Speaker 3: In terms of what they wanted to do.
- 8:25Speaker 1: And I think publicly though, they kind of tried to
- 8:30Speaker 1: play both sides of it, and you know, just didn't
- 8:34Speaker 1: come out and say certain obvious dynamics within their organization.
- 8:41Speaker 1: And so, you know, Jed's deliberateness is certainly a strength.
- 8:50Speaker 1: It's why he has three World Series rings. But his cautiousness,
- 8:55Speaker 1: which also helped you know, the Red Sox and the
- 8:58Speaker 1: Cubs over the years. I think it really stood out
- 9:00Speaker 1: this past year. Okay, like you went out and fired
- 9:05Speaker 1: David Ross and higher Craig Council, but then it sort
- 9:10Speaker 1: of just stopped there in terms.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Of like the big wow type of.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Moves right right exactly that it was the off season
- 9:21Speaker 4: was like a little underwhelming after after council got to
- 9:25Speaker 4: give him credit for the moves they didn't.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Make though, right like, they made some good moves. Michael
- 9:30Speaker 2: Bush was a good acquisition and you know who we're
- 9:33Speaker 2: going to talk about right now showed him and now
- 9:34Speaker 2: his breakout season. That is a hell of a signing
- 9:37Speaker 2: after one year that like first of all, like just
- 9:41Speaker 2: dealing with him. Guy doesn't speak English and his opening
- 9:46Speaker 2: press conference it like if you like for me to
- 9:51Speaker 2: understand how difficult that is to do the you know,
- 9:54Speaker 2: the go Cubs go thing. I try and talk in
- 9:58Speaker 2: Spanish every once in a while some of these players,
- 10:01Speaker 2: and it's really hard and embarrassing, Like that's the biggest thing.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Like sometimes I'm just like, oh, I feel like such
- 10:06Speaker 2: an idiot, Like these guys are gonna think I'm a moron,
- 10:09Speaker 2: but you realize you like you listen to show to
- 10:11Speaker 2: do that, and all you can think is like, hey,
- 10:14Speaker 2: great job, Like we know how difficult that is. That's
- 10:16Speaker 2: incredibly difficult, and you did that in front of cameras,
- 10:20Speaker 2: introducing yourself to a whole new country and organization. Very cool,
- 10:24Speaker 2: very like great way to start his Coby career. And
- 10:28Speaker 2: the performance I mean remember daily, like after every start
- 10:32Speaker 2: or we're like is this gonna keep happening? Like I
- 10:36Speaker 2: was that Mets series in New York when he like
- 10:40Speaker 2: we were surrounding him and there were New York media
- 10:44Speaker 2: because they were so impressed. There were so many people
- 10:46Speaker 2: there to come talk to him, and he had great
- 10:49Speaker 2: lines he talked about like what did you know about
- 10:51Speaker 2: New York? Was like I saw it in Spider Man,
- 10:53Speaker 2: Like that's that's funny, Like that's he has a great
- 10:56Speaker 2: sense of humor and he was great, great picture one
- 11:00Speaker 2: of the you know, in a in a disappointing season,
- 11:03Speaker 2: a huge bright spot for the Cubs.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yeah, no doubt.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I mean just I know you're a big you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: Illinois hoopsky college sports fan.
- 11:15Speaker 3: What do people talk about like winning the press conference?
- 11:18Speaker 2: Right and usually that's like.
- 11:19Speaker 3: A bad sign.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Like his first moment was this unbelievable introduction to the
- 11:25Speaker 1: city in it just came this callback moment for everything
- 11:29Speaker 1: he did throughout the year. I mean the comparisons to
- 11:33Speaker 1: Fernando Vealezuela, I mean Cy Young Award, I mean Jake
- 11:38Speaker 1: Arieta's Cy Young Award campaign, like it was kind of
- 11:42Speaker 1: in that stratosphere. I mean a guy who totally like
- 11:48Speaker 1: put the Cubs on his back and like kept them
- 11:52Speaker 1: afloat for months. I mean off the time I had
- 11:58Speaker 1: I can't remember their record in his Star arts and
- 12:00Speaker 1: the record the rest of the season, but it's an
- 12:04Speaker 1: absurdly dramatic differences between show today's and the rest of
- 12:11Speaker 1: the one hundred.
- 12:11Speaker 3: And sixty two game schedule. And so I guess now'll
- 12:15Speaker 3: be how can he top it? Can he match it?
- 12:18Speaker 3: You know what? Will you know? His legacy sort of
- 12:22Speaker 3: be as you know, the.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Cubs are trying to be a player in the Roki
- 12:27Speaker 1: Sazaki sweepstakes and be that destination for other Japanese players
- 12:32Speaker 1: on the horizon. But yeah, I mean, realistically, he smashed
- 12:36Speaker 1: every best case expectation for his first year on the
- 12:42Speaker 1: North Side.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And he showed personality on the mound too. Well, yeah
- 12:46Speaker 2: that fun to watch, Like, yeah, fun to watch little
- 12:50Speaker 2: little like when he didn't get a call. It wasn't
- 12:52Speaker 2: fully calling out the hump, but it like little like
- 12:55Speaker 2: motions and movements that kind of you know, are enjoyable
- 12:58Speaker 2: to watch. Council, we talk about how smart he is
- 13:01Speaker 2: on the field, just little things like when to take,
- 13:04Speaker 2: when to run to first, went to, like direct, directing defenders,
- 13:07Speaker 2: things like that, Like just like a smart guy, fun guy,
- 13:11Speaker 2: fun to watch, great player, like a great story. Like
- 13:15Speaker 2: thankfully we had that to cover otherwise whoop, it would
- 13:19Speaker 2: have been a tough season one other at least in
- 13:23Speaker 2: the second half. Really positive story. Peteker Armstrong. He was
- 13:28Speaker 2: one of the rare bright spots and I remember thinking, oof,
- 13:35Speaker 2: this is a mess when he came up talking to him,
- 13:40Speaker 2: and this guy, you know, he has a lot going
- 13:42Speaker 2: on in his head, like because he has high expectations
- 13:45Speaker 2: for himself and he wants to succeed and he's succeeded
- 13:48Speaker 2: a lot in life. It you could tell he was
- 13:53Speaker 2: overthinking things and pressing and trying to do too much.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Talking to the coaches, talking to Greig Counsel, they all
- 13:58Speaker 2: nobody was hiding that he wanted to live up to
- 14:01Speaker 2: the hype. There was a point where we came into
- 14:05Speaker 2: the season and we probably we probably over like talk
- 14:10Speaker 2: too much about the high fastball, because you know what
- 14:12Speaker 2: killed him, it was the slider in and I at
- 14:16Speaker 2: a certain point I remember turning to Journey to a
- 14:19Speaker 2: reporter and saying, like, is he gonna just stop swinging
- 14:23Speaker 2: at that pitch? Because if it's like the opposition knows
- 14:26Speaker 2: throw a slider down and in and he's swinging, it's
- 14:29Speaker 2: an easy out. This has gotten hard to watch. Something clicked,
- 14:36Speaker 2: you know, something clicked in Kansas City, he got that
- 14:39Speaker 2: leg kick and looked and it was like one eighties
- 14:44Speaker 2: different player, and when he is succeeding it just talked
- 14:49Speaker 2: about how fun it is to watch showed him Naga.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm not sure if we've seen any anyone as fun
- 14:54Speaker 2: to watch since Sabi Erbaya's at his peak, Like that
- 14:57Speaker 2: was some of the most fun I've had watching and
- 15:00Speaker 2: covering a baseball player. The things he can do on
- 15:03Speaker 2: the field when he's right are freakish and it's fun.
- 15:06Speaker 2: It's fun to watch.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I mean, absolute havoc is what he can cause out there.
- 15:12Speaker 3: And I do think PCA kind of symbolizes a lot
- 15:19Speaker 3: of things going on with this team.
- 15:20Speaker 1: One it's called back to the twenty twenty one trade deadline,
- 15:23Speaker 1: trade and a hobby.
- 15:24Speaker 3: It's like, Okay, they.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Needed like guys to start showing up from that trade deadline,
- 15:29Speaker 1: and he did in a big way. I think you've
- 15:32Speaker 1: read about this a lots of hot I have of
- 15:34Speaker 1: how they worked with him and kind of the routine
- 15:37Speaker 1: he developed, and he obviously deserves the credit for that,
- 15:41Speaker 1: but it comes largely keeping a coaching staff intact. I
- 15:46Speaker 1: think is a recognition of kind of the development developmental
- 15:52Speaker 1: environment they've created, which is big.
- 15:55Speaker 3: And then just the like.
- 15:57Speaker 1: When you walk into the room of like okay, who's
- 15:59Speaker 1: the headliner not And you know PCA is certainly that
- 16:05Speaker 1: like a guy who can go viral. And also have
- 16:11Speaker 1: to give him credit for being a very like thoughtful,
- 16:14Speaker 1: expressive person, like someone who's super young and who's had
- 16:20Speaker 1: a lot thrown at him. He handled himself extremely well.
- 16:29Speaker 1: We'll give you a good a good quote. Also just
- 16:33Speaker 1: kind of carries himself, i'd say, in a different way
- 16:36Speaker 1: this past year of just kind of a little more
- 16:39Speaker 1: a little calmer, very observant, you know, seeing what Nico
- 16:45Speaker 1: hap Dansby all those guys are are doing. So again,
- 16:50Speaker 1: see what see if he can top it and continue
- 16:53Speaker 1: on this ascent next year. But one of the rare
- 16:59Speaker 1: like kind of I don't know, bursts of energy around
- 17:04Speaker 1: a team that was just so professional and kind of
- 17:06Speaker 1: a little boring.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I don't think you're going too far
- 17:11Speaker 2: by saying that at all, Like that's just I mean,
- 17:13Speaker 2: I don't think some of them would disagree. They're not
- 17:15Speaker 2: looking he's yeah, yeah, but he is an outlier in
- 17:20Speaker 2: that group. He also had tremendous respect for that group.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Like I think they helped him a lot, like he
- 17:26Speaker 2: like you said, like he watched them and I appreciate that,
- 17:30Speaker 2: Like you know, learn from those veterans, see their hard work,
- 17:33Speaker 2: see that they go through struggles too, and they pushed
- 17:36Speaker 2: through and the work that they put in and it's
- 17:38Speaker 2: like it's okay, don't let it get you down. Uh,
- 17:41Speaker 2: it's okay to sometimes take it hard, but got to
- 17:44Speaker 2: move on. You got to push through, continue to work.
- 17:47Speaker 2: You're talented enough to figure these things out. I'm very
- 17:50Speaker 2: curious to see how good he can be offensively, Like
- 17:55Speaker 2: if he's if he'sad last two months, then we're talking
- 17:58Speaker 2: about a very special talent. I don't I don't. I
- 18:02Speaker 2: think putting that on him is too much. That's unfair. Yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 2: but if you can have but if he can have
- 18:07Speaker 2: stretches like that, two month stretches here and there, and
- 18:11Speaker 2: he can put up even average offensive numbers, you have
- 18:14Speaker 2: a very valuable player. Like that's that's that's the reality.
- 18:17Speaker 2: So make that the floor and then reach for hire
- 18:20Speaker 2: and we'll see where it goes. Patrick. The final story
- 18:24Speaker 2: is the story we've been talking about for the past
- 18:28Speaker 2: two weeks now, and it is. Yeah, it is the
- 18:31Speaker 2: biggest story for the Cubs, I think since the Creig
- 18:34Speaker 2: Council hiring. And and so it's fitting that we start
- 18:37Speaker 2: with Greig Council and we we're gonna wrap the show
- 18:40Speaker 2: up with the Cubs acquired Kyle Tucker. Like this is
- 18:43Speaker 2: the biggest move player move that Jed Hoyer has made
- 18:47Speaker 2: in charge of the Cubs acquisition that he's made. Like
- 18:51Speaker 2: think about it, Like we wrote about this, but his
- 18:55Speaker 2: his Cub's career as team president started with the trade
- 18:59Speaker 2: with releasing Kyle Schwarber, trading you Darvish six months later,
- 19:03Speaker 2: he's trading the key the most loved players of this generation.
- 19:10Speaker 2: How could he like? Very hard to rebound from that,
- 19:14Speaker 2: Like almost instantly, he was beyond the eight ball as
- 19:16Speaker 2: far as fan reaction. Fans aren't going to like that,
- 19:19Speaker 2: no matter what it's like, no matter if it's the
- 19:22Speaker 2: right moves or not. It's really hard to win over
- 19:24Speaker 2: fans when you do that. So finally, there's some positive
- 19:29Speaker 2: things that you can point to, a big move that
- 19:33Speaker 2: you know you can you can complain about the price
- 19:36Speaker 2: if you're if that's what you're focusing on, I'm you know, hey,
- 19:39Speaker 2: let's watch some fun baseball, is what I'd say, and
- 19:43Speaker 2: maybe they'll win some games, more than eighty three games
- 19:46Speaker 2: this year because Kyle Tucker is a difference maker. He's
- 19:48Speaker 2: a superstar. He's that type of guy that changes the
- 19:52Speaker 2: dynamic of a lineup, and for Jed Hoyer to make
- 19:55Speaker 2: this bold move should be a good sign for Cubs fans.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, I.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Guess there's always a little risk with everything, but this
- 20:06Speaker 1: guy seems pretty close to a sure thing. I mean,
- 20:09Speaker 1: really good all around skills, like an easy fit into
- 20:15Speaker 1: this lineup, someone who will certainly be motivated to play
- 20:20Speaker 1: well next.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Year and you know, go see what he can get.
- 20:24Speaker 1: But I liked I know we both did some reporting
- 20:27Speaker 1: on this, but just the idea of like it took
- 20:30Speaker 1: years for the Cubs to kind of get to this point,
- 20:33Speaker 1: and how all these little moments and you know, behind
- 20:38Speaker 1: the scenes people helped push this forward.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Whether it was.
- 20:45Speaker 1: You know, the deals that led up to this and
- 20:47Speaker 1: you know, finding a Christopher Morrell or whatever it was,
- 20:51Speaker 1: like you kind of drafting Cam Smith. Like, there's a
- 20:54Speaker 1: lot of it's interesting to pull back and see all
- 20:56Speaker 1: the things that went into this.
- 20:58Speaker 2: It's a sign of a healthy organization, which I think
- 21:03Speaker 2: sometimes both of us fall into this trap. Fans certainly
- 21:07Speaker 2: fall into this trap. Everyone does that's not inside the org.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Even sometimes inside the ORG. Shoot, Like it's very easy
- 21:15Speaker 2: to look what's happening at the major league field and
- 21:17Speaker 2: say this is a disaster, right, this is not going well,
- 21:20Speaker 2: this is really bad. Look they need to win. Like
- 21:23Speaker 2: I'm not gonna blow them up and say like, hey,
- 21:26Speaker 2: what a great job. They're an amazing organization. They're not
- 21:29Speaker 2: there yet, but that is a good sign they're doing there.
- 21:33Speaker 2: There there are some things that make me say, okay,
- 21:35Speaker 2: you have my attention. I'm interested in what you're doing.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Continue on that path, and you know what, win at
- 21:42Speaker 2: the major league level, because that's the bottom line, right,
- 21:44Speaker 2: that's all where Like at the end of the day,
- 21:46Speaker 2: if they're not winning at the major league level, they
- 21:48Speaker 2: their jobs. It's going to cost them their jobs, right.
- 21:51Speaker 2: But this is a this is a sign that I
- 21:54Speaker 2: think when you are able to acquire a guy like
- 21:57Speaker 2: Kyle Tucker and you didn't destroy your major league roster
- 22:00Speaker 2: or your minor league system by doing it and look
- 22:03Speaker 2: like frankly a better team. Ah, that's that's a good
- 22:07Speaker 2: sign for your organization and and it's what we need
- 22:10Speaker 2: to see more of going forward. Like we wrote, you know,
- 22:14Speaker 2: find the next camp Smith and then you know what,
- 22:16Speaker 2: do more this offseason. And that's you know, that's what
- 22:18Speaker 2: we're going to be talking about over the next what
- 22:21Speaker 2: is it a month, month and a half before we
- 22:24Speaker 2: cheeze Patrick, it's coming close a month and a half
- 22:28Speaker 2: from now, we will be heading to Arizona. So you
- 22:33Speaker 2: know that that's that's the storyline for the next six weeks.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Let's figure out how they get better? What what more
- 22:39Speaker 2: are they going to do? What are what's what's the
- 22:42Speaker 2: twenty twenty five Year in review going to look like
- 22:45Speaker 2: hopefully it's it's not it's not We're not talking about
- 22:49Speaker 2: eighty three weeks.
- 22:52Speaker 3: That would be so cub though. That would be so
- 22:53Speaker 3: cub though, I really.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Don't want to talk about it, Patrick.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Uh, gotta be like wins or ninety losses, like just
- 23:01Speaker 1: some sort of like, you.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Know, let's make sure you you mean, Jesse aren't making
- 23:08Speaker 2: Kane kun plans for October fourth, or at least we
- 23:12Speaker 2: can't do that in August, you know.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Yes, it's always We'll definitely get our buddy Jesse Rogers
- 23:20Speaker 1: on to break it down in that case. But yeah,
- 23:23Speaker 1: it'll be I don't know, I'm appreciative, and I know
- 23:27Speaker 1: you are as well. Of like, I don't know, the
- 23:29Speaker 1: cups are good, the cups are bad, Like who cares?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Like they're always you know, entertaining. Yeah, there's always so
- 23:36Speaker 1: much to write about. A lot of it's you know.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Barely baseball ad Jason.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And it's a privilege to you know, work in a
