- 2:07Christian of hummus vacuum and also sometimes of adjust the
- 2:12sales on occasion. How are you doing?
- 2:17Good. How about you?
- 2:18I am doing great. I'm a little, you know, I'm, I'm
- 2:22pretty sure I'd say this every time.
- 2:23I'm always tired because I'm always just coming off of
- 2:27working at my job that pays me money so that I can do my job
- 2:30that I have a lot of fun in. Oh yeah, you are Well.
- 2:40I'm super excited to talk to you.
- 2:43Let's dive straight in to Hell Divers.
- 2:46So I've played a little bit. I played a little bit of Hell
- 2:49Divers too, when it first came out, when it was like the
- 2:51phenomenon that everybody wanted to play.
- 2:55Tell me how you got into Hell, Divers.
- 2:59So I when the game came out, I like watched all the tik toks,
- 3:03like all the cliffs that were trending and it was it was like
- 3:06all over my feed and then I just didn't buy it for some reason
- 3:09for like a few months after that.
- 3:11But my younger brother and some of his friends were playing it
- 3:15and he urged me to buy it and I just like it.
- 3:20Just like like just pulled me in like immediately.
- 3:22Like so then I felt like I was like, oh, I'm so late because it
- 3:26was a PlayStation exclusive for a while too.
- 3:28So I could have been like, like right on the jump.
- 3:31But like as soon as I like I played my first couple of games
- 3:34that it's just so like dynamic and immersive.
- 3:38Just there's not really another shooter or even another game
- 3:42that I feel like is like that is like hell divers.
- 3:46Yeah, what? What do you feel like sets it
- 3:48apart? I feel like 1 the community so
- 3:53the game it is like a live service game but how what the
- 3:57players do influences like the story of the game.
- 4:02So like technically everything you do in a match is like Canon
- 4:06to the universe of hell divers into the game and every time you
- 4:10die, that is like an individual hell diver.
- 4:13So an individual soldier. And I think both with like the
- 4:17diversity of the enemy, both the the three different enemy groups
- 4:22and then the different enemy types and and things like that
- 4:26in between each one. Would you end up with I feel
- 4:29like like over 50 different single enemies in the game.
- 4:35It just I like I've, I looked at my PlayStation the other day and
- 4:40I'm, I'm creeping on 600 hours in this game and I'm just, I
- 4:44can't imagine being bored yet. It's just every planet is
- 4:48different. All the locales are different.
- 4:51There's a million different combinations of like gear and
- 4:56weapons and stratagems that you could bring.
- 4:58And it's just, it's fun. The community really
- 5:02participates in the role play too on like a really high level,
- 5:05like you, you kind of, it's not just like hall of duty where
- 5:09you're getting on after work. It is a bit that I call myself
- 5:13like a hell diver. Like, you know, like like like
- 5:16it's, it's like, it's part of the role play And it is really
- 5:19fun too. Like, like, you know, you have
- 5:22like a dramatic last stand against like a giant group of
- 5:26enemies that you know you're going to die and you're like for
- 5:29democracy. And it's like, it's like, it's,
- 5:32it's, it's just really fun. Like like the participating in
- 5:35the community, like everyone I've met to this game is really
- 5:39nice. Like you, whether it's like
- 5:40randoms who happen to have microphones or people online who
- 5:46play the game and everyone's just really like, like I'll
- 5:49like, I'll tell you one thing. One of my first games when I was
- 5:52playing by myself, I joined a group of randoms and after a
- 5:56particularly difficult fight against a group of enemies, a
- 6:02player from the group that I had joined literally pulled me to
- 6:05the side behind cover, called a resupply stratagem.
- 6:08And there's emos in the game and there's a hug Emo.
- 6:11So he called the resupply and gave me a hug.
- 6:14Like, it's going to be OK. Like, it's, it's just, I don't
- 6:17know, it's really fun. Like, it's, it's just it's like
- 6:21you do feel like you're participating, Like, like, like
- 6:25you're part of it. You know what I mean?
- 6:27Yeah. Which I think is really cool.
- 6:29That's what keeps me like pulled in.
- 6:30Like even though you're playing against the computer and
- 6:33against, you're not playing against other people.
- 6:36Like the team play is really important too.
- 6:38Like it's just, it's, it's different.
- 6:40I don't know, like just everything new that they add I'm
- 6:43I just look forward to it. So what are the three factions
- 6:47you're fighting against? I know one.
- 6:48I know one is robots of some sort.
- 6:53So also to start with. So Hell, Divers 2 is the second
- 6:58great galactic war like in the Canon of the game.
- 7:01And so this to start with what you brought up the the bots are
- 7:06we call the automatons, and they are a creation of the cyborgs,
- 7:12which were an enemy class from the first game and then
- 7:15eventually got brought into this game when we a few months ago.
- 7:19And I I say we because it feels like, and I'm not even doing
- 7:24that to be funny. And it really is like it.
- 7:26It's like a wee thing, but. You're doing your part.
- 7:32This is so the salute. That's, that's the, the salute.
- 7:35I did it. I, I did the solidarity fest for
- 7:38a second. But like the bots, we invaded
- 7:43the home planet of the cyborgs in February, which was like a
- 7:47two week long campaign. I think I played for like 2
- 7:50hours every night but so the bots are honestly probably the
- 7:55most difficult enemy class just cause each kill is like a lot
- 8:00harder to get. Like if you get 200 if you kill
- 8:03200 bots in a match it feels like 400 because they are both
- 8:09shooting. If they see you, they are
- 8:10shooting at you all the time, like and on the higher level
- 8:14difficulties because it's ranked one through 10 in terms of match
- 8:18difficulty. If they see you, they're calling
- 8:21reinforcements immediately before you could even like kill
- 8:23them to prevent that. But so the bots are really cool.
- 8:26There's a lot of it feels a lot more like war there because both
- 8:31they're shooting at you, they're you're blowing up and getting
- 8:34rag dolled all the time. The maps are a lot darker and
- 8:41honestly it is a lot more focused.
- 8:43Like I can play some of the other enemy classes more like on
- 8:49autopilot. But if you play autopilot on
- 8:52bots, it's like they will, they are very difficult.
- 8:55Like the cyborgs will run you down, kick you down and then
- 8:59shoot you once a day. It's like knocked you down like
- 9:01it's it is really like it is difficult like and then after
- 9:06the bots, you have the bugs, which is called the terminates,
- 9:11which are like the first enemy class.
- 9:13That's what you train on in the like in the tutorial.
- 9:17And that's what most people that's kind of like the the most
- 9:21common. Most people only really know
- 9:23about the bugs. Like especially before I would I
- 9:25played the game. That was all I kind of really
- 9:27knew about was fighting bugs and bugs is really fun.
- 9:30It's more like it's just giant swarms of alien bugs that are
- 9:37the size. It's like they're the size of
- 9:39like rhinos and like giant. They're terrible.
- 9:43It is scary. Like we, we joke all the time
- 9:46like some of my friends who play like if we actually had to do it
- 9:49like and it's like you know you're going to die.
- 9:51The average life expectancy of a hell diver is 2 minutes like in
- 9:55the lore. Like once you are, once you drop
- 9:57onto the battlefield, you have two minutes before you probably
- 10:00get killed and being torn apart by a, a giant alien bug the size
- 10:07of like a lion, but it's like a giant praying mantis.
- 10:14Like it's, it's, it's scary. Like I was playing recently, it
- 10:20was a jungle planet so like very thick trees, very dark, very
- 10:25difficult movement and I was alone.
- 10:28I was separated from the rest of my team.
- 10:30I was playing with randoms and you just hear they make noises
- 10:34like the bugs, like animals. And there's one that's called a
- 10:37stalker. That is my low key, my least
- 10:40favorite enemy in the game. They have the ability to
- 10:43disappear. They will track you for hundreds
- 10:45of meters and then they will blind side you and they are very
- 10:50difficult to kill. But I was walking alone, just me
- 10:54and my mini gun in the forest feeling like Predator like the
- 10:57movie like literally like and I just hear just clicking.
- 11:04It sounds like a rattlesnake like and it's like you hear it
- 11:10coming from behind you. And I turned around and he was
- 11:12right on me. Like he literally like knocked
- 11:14me over. The ragdoll physics in the game
- 11:17are really intense that you can get thrown 1020 feet by an
- 11:22explosion or there's an enemy that's called a charger that is
- 11:25basically a rhinoceros beetle the size of an elephant and they
- 11:30charge you, you, they literally go oh then they will run, run
- 11:35from like 100 meters away and just smoke you, like fully knock
- 11:40you to the ground, like crush you against the wall.
- 11:43The bugs are really fun. A lot of times they really just
- 11:46overwhelm you with numbers or one of the more like nasty
- 11:50specific enemy types will will manage to get you.
- 11:55And then third, of course, I I keep going on longer, longer
- 11:58tangents, but the the third is the illuminant, which is just
- 12:04one of the most diverse of the three enemy factions.
- 12:08The they're a race of aliens that originally were not of
- 12:14warfaring species. They were originally peaceful,
- 12:18but the government of Super Earth, you know, similarly to,
- 12:23you know, many governments and countries that have existed in
- 12:27our time, Super Earth discovered that they have technology and
- 12:32resources that both they wanted to take and also scared them.
- 12:35So they claimed that they had weapons of mass destruction and
- 12:41where where does this provide us of?
- 12:43And it like declared war on the illuminant.
- 12:46And but they are a race of aliens that also have the
- 12:52ability to turn regular humans into basically like zombies.
- 12:57And so you're fighting both big aliens, but also hordes of like
- 13:02zombies at the same time. So it forces you to really be
- 13:06like, if, if 10 enemies are chasing me, which one's going to
- 13:10kill me in the next 30 seconds, which one's going to eventually
- 13:12kill me in the next two minutes, and which one's going to call
- 13:15more that are going to actually kill me like.
- 13:19You have to prioritize which one you want to take down.
- 13:22All the while actually, and the game is not just killing too
- 13:25it's it's like you have to execute mission objectives,
- 13:29collect samples, reinforce teammates.
- 13:35Some of my favorite missions are where you have to facilitate the
- 13:38evacuation of civilians from like an area.
- 13:41So that's and like the computer civilians that like you have to
- 13:45save a certain amount of them. So you basically have to hold an
- 13:48area for a certain amount of time and they'll the like the
- 13:53voice lines, they'll really say like, thank you, hell diver as
- 13:56you're like like dying to. And you know, it's funny because
- 13:59in the game they're probably all like rich people too, that we're
- 14:02like dying to save and we're fight, fighting and dying to
- 14:05save. Like they're not just regular
- 14:07civilians either, like Jeff Bezos and shit like that.
- 14:11Like. Are you are hell divers clones?
- 14:16Is that a part of the story or is it?
- 14:18Just kind of like, OK, the hell part of the war machine in the
- 14:23military of the of super. So the Super earth armed forces,
- 14:26the hell divers are like the highest, like the special
- 14:29forces, basically like the the most elite.
- 14:31There are like regular sea soldiers in the game.
- 14:37They just recently added that will like come and reinforce you
- 14:40and assist you and stuff like that.
- 14:42But you're basically like the elite, like the the Navy seals
- 14:45of the of the Super earth armed forces, like you are the the
- 14:48upper, the most elite soldiers. But you just said this, you're
- 14:54frozen. You're frozen in cryosleep in
- 14:58your hell pod. And each player has a super
- 15:01destroyer, which also sends down like your support weapons, your
- 15:06stratagems, your and all that stuff.
- 15:10So each player has their own super destroyer and then each
- 15:14hell diver, every time you die, a new one is sat down.
- 15:18So a new person is basically awoken from cryosleep.
- 15:21So you're trained as a hell diver, put in uniform, and then
- 15:24they put you to sleep and you wake up on the battlefield.
- 15:28And then like there are times where I wake up, there's like an
- 15:32enemy that is already coming that I don't see, and then you
- 15:35die immediately. And like that was my whole life.
- 15:37Like that was my life right there.
- 15:39But there's other times where you survived.
- 15:41The whole mission is 1 hell diver.
- 15:43Like there's a joke that they don't have, they don't have like
- 15:46Ava or health insurance for health divers because you don't
- 15:49live long enough to why would you need it?
- 15:50Like, yeah, literally. Like it's a really fun game.
- 15:56Like it's just, it's just so different every time.
- 15:58Like it's, it's very, it's just the immersion and the the
- 16:02community and it's just, it's very different.
- 16:05I was kind of late into shooters and like having my own console
- 16:09as a kid. So I wasn't like a Hulk, Call of
- 16:12Duty all night, like type of of gamer.
- 16:15So I feel like with shooters and stuff like that, it does take
- 16:18something different to like kind of pull me in and stuff like
- 16:21that. And I was immediately just like
- 16:23hooked, like just from the get go.
- 16:27Like I've been trying to play this for almost a year now.
- 16:30Like I think I downloaded it about a year ago.
- 16:32Like I enjoyed it. 600 hours in a year is pretty impressive.
- 16:37God, I'm a loser dad, guys. I have a job too, OK?
- 16:42When I'm not on tour, I have a job.
- 16:44You're not a job. You're on tour with two
- 16:46different bands for long periods of time.
- 16:49That's it's impressive and you're and you're putting out
- 16:51drum content all the time. I.
- 16:53Work like 4 double s every week when I'm off tour and I have
- 16:56three days off. So that's what it helps cram
- 16:59some of the drum stuff in that if I try to stay busy, you know,
- 17:02the voice is like, you know what I'm saying?
- 17:07Like you got to stay busy man. Like it's cool, like if I have
- 17:12too much downtime, I don't need to doom scroll all day.
- 17:14Like, you know, I already probably do too much of that.
- 17:16Like when I'm gone on the road, though, I miss I missed like on
- 17:23this last tour in July when I was gone for like a month.
- 17:26I was I was missing hell divers mail.
- 17:28Like I don't have like AI need to get like a steam deck or
- 17:31something like that so I can play more on the road.
- 17:34I saw we aren't we amphibians last weekend.
- 17:37They were. That's so good.
- 17:39And I knew from their their discord and also from talking to
- 17:44Orpen from Harrison Gordon that Josh is a Final Fantasy player
- 17:48and I had shared my Final Fantasy 14 days played with with
- 17:53him, which is a lot. It's like 300 days over many
- 17:59years. And the first thing he said to
- 18:04me when I saw him in whatever city, Carrboro that that they
- 18:09stopped in, he's just like, I miss Final Fantasy.
- 18:14He's like, I miss it. That's like, it's one of the
- 18:17hard things about Tor too. Like not not even just in the
- 18:20like a funny context too. It's like especially like now
- 18:24this last year, like going on longer tours for like where
- 18:27you're gone for once you hit the three-week mark.
- 18:30I started missing my room so bad just in this.
- 18:33I love and everyone. It's weird dealing with this
- 18:37too, whereas but it's like I love everyone I'm in a band with
- 18:40and like that we get on tour with, but by week 3 it's like if
- 18:44I don't have two hours alone, I'm going to kill one of you.
- 18:47Like, you know what I'm saying? Like.
- 18:48There's a lot of togetherness. So, and it's it's like why a lot
- 18:52of people get like the steam Decks or Switch, you can have
- 18:55just kind of like that, that feeling of like in the
- 18:57everyone's in the green room on their phones, the whole like the
- 19:01green rooms. And I know it's already been
- 19:02debunked, but it's not, it's not a party back there.
- 19:05It's a bunch of nerds. It's a bunch of sweaty dudes
- 19:09pretending they're home and they're in their room by
- 19:10themselves because they're tired.
- 19:12They're like, like, I just got out of a car for six hours and
- 19:18it's like. Shame hosted videos of of like
- 19:21the hotel rooms you guys were staying in.
- 19:24So funny. God.
- 19:26And it's well, sometimes it's really fun too, like when
- 19:28everyone has energy, like we still we still joke around and
- 19:30shit, but there are there was nights, especially when I was
- 19:33doing when I was playing with both the bands on the tour.
- 19:36Uh huh. The, the video of me asleep with
- 19:39my phone in my hand like this is real and was not staged.
- 19:43Like I literally fell asleep like that.
- 19:45Like there's some nights where we get in even if it's not super
- 19:48late, like we roll in and it's just everybody's out straight to
- 19:52bed, no talking. It's just like it's, it's hard.
- 19:56It's it's like I work 11-10 hour days at my real job and that is
- 20:01very hard. But like, there are days on tour
- 20:05where like you have to remind yourself, like, this is what I,
- 20:07I've chased my whole life doing and like, this is my favorite
- 20:11thing in the world. But if you, like lie to yourself
- 20:14and say that there's no parts of it that are bad or that you
- 20:17dislike, that's why you build up that like the, the, you know,
- 20:21you stuff it all down and then eventually you just sort of
- 20:23like, I can't go on tour anymore.
- 20:25But like, I do miss it. Like like that like just my
- 20:31video games, all my my action figures as you can see behind me
- 20:37and like my drum kit to like by the end of a tour just.
- 20:40Like your bed, I'm sure. Like your personal space God.
- 20:46It's like we get, you know, it's obviously it's also like the
- 20:49most fun I've ever had in my life at the same time.
- 20:51So I don't really sound like I'm play.
- 20:53It is the most incredible, like especially since joining hummus
- 20:58vacuum and adjust the sales like it is like really like just the
- 21:01most incredible thing I've gotten to experience.
- 21:04But there's also times where it's like you have a 5 hour
- 21:08drive and you left 35 minutes after you should have and like
- 21:14every like everyone has to pee. Like you got to stop multiple
- 21:17times And so you're just like your eyes start switching.
- 21:20It's just like like. I am curious and this is we're
- 21:26like way off and we never talk music on this podcast.
- 21:29No, I was. Going to say I'm talking
- 21:30business. That's the sin on this podcast.
- 21:32I I can't do that. No, it's, it's fun.
- 21:34I like it. I am curious.
- 21:37Like I I've never met Cappy but I can't imagine that.
- 21:43Like I feel like Cappy and Shane are just polar opposites as
- 21:46human beings and I don't know if that's true.
- 21:49So there's like, so Shane's like.
- 21:51It's funny because they're both around the same age.
- 21:54Shane carries himself sometimes like more of like a grumpy old
- 21:58man and Kathy's like no, they're both ball Busters though, so
- 22:03there's the overlap of that. They're both just very funny
- 22:06people. So like they both like when they
- 22:10start just being fake me to each other and shit like it's real.
- 22:13Like the the shared adjust, the sales hummus vacuum motel room
- 22:17vibes were very fun. Like it was.
- 22:20It's shame. I I call him dad as a joke.
- 22:23Like he's like, like everyone is like Uncle Shane or whatever,
- 22:26like. Your your counterpart Seth also
- 22:30lives in North Carolina and is in Blink State.
- 22:32I love Seth. Love you Seth.
- 22:35I asked, I asked them the same question and they said the same
- 22:38thing about about Shane. Just they were like, yeah, just
- 22:44instantly after meeting them, I was like, OK, grandpa or
- 22:48whatever or something like that. It's so funny, like like he's
- 22:51not that old like like everyone treats on tour.
- 22:54We all treat him and he is like the AC usually like he's doing
- 22:57the headliner and like, you know, he is like my boss or
- 23:00whatever. Like, but it's like now it's
- 23:03like everyone treats him like an old band, but it's like he's not
- 23:05that old like, you know, like. He's so great.
- 23:08I, I have, I thought only had a few conversations with him, but
- 23:12I, I absolutely, I'm gonna get him on eventually to talk
- 23:16Destiny 2 or whatever. Nerdy.
- 23:18Thing he's into. Yeah.
- 23:20Yeah, it'll probably be a lot of that.
- 23:21He bought one of those phone holder controllers on tour
- 23:24literally just to play Destiny 2 mobile.
- 23:26He was like that and then he was in the venue was like Berkeley.
- 23:29I needed to drive and then he was just in the middle in the
- 23:32bed. See like playing the game for
- 23:33like hours, like we're all everyone's.
- 23:38It's fun on tour. Everyone's got their own like
- 23:40dirty shit that they're into. And I like will pull up Apple
- 23:45maps of the venue and then zoom in and out and see if there's
- 23:48any cool shit. And like, if there's a comic
- 23:51book store and walking distance or like a, a toy store or a card
- 23:55shop, I'm like, we're going, I'm like, like, like, but on the
- 24:01itinerary. And it's fun too, like seeing
- 24:03everybody else's like interests and like, you know, finding the
- 24:06little like, like small businesses and like card shops
- 24:10and nerd stores that you would never go to otherwise like.
- 24:13Right, I feel like I'm like great idea for a business open a
- 24:18card shop slash venue. Arcane Workshop.
- 24:24Yeah, yeah, that place. Is dope.
- 24:27So, so cool. All right, we're talking comics
- 24:30a little bit. I'm gonna use that as a Segway.
- 24:33I'm gonna use that as a Segway to get into Spider Man 'cause
- 24:35that was another topic that you that use.
- 24:42So it's like a it's such a huge topic.
- 24:45I have like a bunch of stuff. Oh, is that, is that Venom
- 24:48Spider Man? The Venom.
- 24:51Shaded. Yeah, the black suit, Venom
- 24:53suit, but it's a shell. Shaded like a comic and then we
- 24:58also have battle damage spider man.
- 25:03There's a couple that was literally I saw those two on my
- 25:05desk and I was like they're going to make a cameo.
- 25:07I I'm sure I spider. They've made like 100 something
- 25:11spider man action figures. So I'm sure that I have not that
- 25:14many, but I have a couple like you know, behind me and shit
- 25:17like that. So please continue.
- 25:19I'm sorry. What was your Spider Man entry
- 25:21point? Like a movie, cartoon, comic
- 25:24books. I, so I was born in 2001, so it
- 25:28was Toby, just like, it's like just those movies, the Tobey
- 25:33Magar movies. And of course Spider Man was
- 25:35very like prevalent. Obviously it's always been
- 25:38culturally relevant, but like when I was a kid or especially
- 25:41in the early 2000s, Spider Man was just everywhere.
- 25:45And I've always loved like comics and things like that.
- 25:48And I think it was definitely the Tobey movies.
- 25:50Once we had those on DVD and I I wore those DVDs to like atoms
- 25:56basically just like I'm I'm a spider man 3 defender.
- 26:00Everybody hates on that movie. It's really campy.
- 26:03If you don't get it like that's a you problem.
- 26:05I'm sorry. Like if you, if you hate on
- 26:08spider man 3 but you love amazing spider man 2, don't talk
- 26:11to me bro. Like, sorry, like.
- 26:15I mean, there is the emo connection right?
- 26:17Emo spider man. So many good salt.
- 26:19Yeah, yes, that both both emo Peter Parker and there is
- 26:25multiple like really good songs in the in the soundtracks for
- 26:30those movies. It's like Dashboard Confessional
- 26:33and the like. Chad Kroeger.
- 26:36I always forget how like formative those movies are for
- 26:40me. Like.
- 26:42That's my spider man such. Great, such great movies.
- 26:46I saw Prince Daddy a few months ago and they had Spider Man 2
- 26:51playing on it like a combo. TVVHS, right?
- 26:55Yeah, yeah. Did you see the did you see the
- 26:59most recent one? Did you see Brandon Spider man?
- 27:03I did, yeah. Did you see Brandon?
- 27:04I was really nervous because like, it's like, where do we go
- 27:06after No Way Home, Right? Like it's because that movie it
- 27:10was like both with like the the forgetting spell at the end and
- 27:13just like it's like you keep raising the stakes of like and
- 27:18like now it's the three spider man.
- 27:21And it's like where I really was like we got to get back to a
- 27:24good baseline and the whole movie, I'm not going to lie, I
- 27:28was choosing the whole movie. Like it just it really felt like
- 27:32like spider man. Like I really like the the first
- 27:353 Tom Holland movies like as well.
- 27:37And I think that he's a really good spider man, but this is the
- 27:41first time out of those 3 movies where I would.
- 27:44I was like, that's the one thing about the Marvel movies is I
- 27:50hate when they're good. But I feel like it's like, yes,
- 27:52they change so many things that I have to be like, but but this,
- 27:56but that, but this, there was no like, but comments I had to make
- 27:59about that movie. Like it was just really the the
- 28:02heart of the character was there like the so many of like the the
- 28:09villains of that little montage and like just so much.
- 28:13It felt like a really lived in Spider Man 2 at the same time,
- 28:17which is ideally like what you want for like a spider man
- 28:20movie. Like that's why some of that
- 28:22times, like the second one is usually really good is because
- 28:24we get past the origin story and now it's like, right, you're in
- 28:28your stride, like. That is something I liked a lot
- 28:31about Tom Holland Spider Man is we didn't have to watch this the
- 28:35the origin story again and just dove right in.
- 28:38You never, you never have to see him get bit by a spider.
- 28:41And you, that's the whole like first 50 minutes of the movie
- 28:44and it's like, and then, then we put the suit on and it's like, I
- 28:49know it's for everybody else, but it's like I've read, watched
- 28:53and played video games of that intro just like basically my
- 28:58entire life as a conscious human being.
- 29:00And it's like, I know, I know how he becomes spider man,
- 29:05right? And it's important like, but
- 29:08it's like. Even if you have at this.
- 29:10Point with the Internet, it's like everybody knows about Uncle
- 29:13Ben and and the spider. It's like it's so culturally
- 29:17relevant that it's like, yeah, we don't need to see it
- 29:19everybody. I don't think there's.
- 29:20Anyone in America at least that doesn't know Spider Man's origin
- 29:25story? I'd be shocked.
- 29:27In fact, I would probably call someone out for being a a liar.
- 29:31Literally it's like. You know that like you know
- 29:33that. Come on.
- 29:34Come on now. I love the new movie I I felt
- 29:37like they did so much in the time that they had.
- 29:43And they did it so. Well, and I thought that that
- 29:45was also very impressive. Like I was, I was really
- 29:48concerned. Yeah.
- 29:50But it they they did it really well.
- 29:53The like cameo appearances were all like, I think really well
- 29:58done and really well placed. I freaking love the Punisher.
- 30:03Oh, yeah, of course. They're like Newark accents,
- 30:07coming out every time they would, like, bicker with each
- 30:09other. Yeah.
- 30:09So good. Like it made me laugh so hard.
- 30:12Like I saw that and I saw. That right after seeing the the
- 30:17Odyssey like the week before. Oh nice.
- 30:21And and. They also have like a lot of
- 30:24scenes together in the Odyssey and it was just funny to see
- 30:27them like together again, but in like more like a buddy cop kind
- 30:31of, yeah, silly. It was good and like both comedy
- 30:36wise and also like narratively in the movie.
- 30:38I feel like, and this is obviously I feel like this is a
- 30:41very surface level glean from the movie, but like they even
- 30:44say it. Peter feels like he's like he's
- 30:47like I'm the loner. I'm, I'm, I'm in my apartment.
- 30:50I don't need anybody. Like, I'm Spider Man.
- 30:52And he literally is like, you know, I'm living like you.
- 30:54And Frank is like, you don't want this.
- 30:57Like, you don't want to live that lonely, that sad, depressed
- 31:00life that Frank lives. Like it's, it's a punishment.
- 31:04It's a curse. You know, it's a sentence like
- 31:07he says in the movie, Like, yeah.
- 31:09He does it to himself because. Of where he's.
- 31:13Been and who he is and spoilers. I mean, we've been spoiling the
- 31:17movie The whole time. The scene where Jean Grey is
- 31:21possessing MJ on the rooftop and he's hugging her and she goes
- 31:26like hug her, feel her and like they reveal that she was
- 31:30possessing her. Because the whole time I'm like,
- 31:32this is too easy. I'm like, they're giving us.
- 31:34And I because of course I'm like, we all secretly like, like
- 31:37a little bit want them everybody to remember.
- 31:39And then they're all friends again and nobody's sad anymore.
- 31:42But I literally, I was sitting next to one of my brothers, my
- 31:45youngest brother who's like 11. We're sitting next to each other
- 31:48in the theater and it that reveal happens.
- 31:51And I literally went Oh my God, like out loud in the theater
- 31:55because it was just like, Oh my God, Like it was like
- 32:00heartbreaking. It's like, here's this.
- 32:02Thing that literally everybody in the theater wants like
- 32:05everybody wants to stand up and. They just pull the rug.
- 32:09And heartbreak. And I.
- 32:15Feel like that whole thing was really well done too with her
- 32:17finding the letter and like, you know, he did self fulfill the
- 32:21prophecy of of never talking to her because he if he had like in
- 32:26the scenes in the coffee shop from no way home, if he had
- 32:28actually talked to her, he probably could have rekindled
- 32:32that. But she's had the last four
- 32:34years of her life to throw into a different person.
- 32:36And it's like, yes, the kind of baseline friendship chemistry of
- 32:40everybody is there. But Peter, it is kind of The
- 32:43thing is like he did that to himself in a lot of ways.
- 32:46Like he, he, he was too scared to like to actually talk to her
- 32:51and that, you know, you did let her live her own life.
- 32:53And in some ways too, he like feels like he was sparing her
- 32:57and, and all that. But again, it's like it's so
- 33:00difficult too, because it's like if, if, if you put me in that
- 33:02situation, I don't know what I would do.
- 33:04I don't know if I would talk to her or I don't know if I would
- 33:06leave her alone because then it's like you feel like you
- 33:09should, like you don't want to bring her into your shed.
- 33:11Like, you know, you're spot, like you know, that's the I
- 33:20think they do a really. Good job of like I think Tom
- 33:23Holland, Spider Man, I think I mean all all three of the
- 33:27iterations of Spider Man that have occurred in my life that
- 33:31have been live action Spider Man have done a really good job of
- 33:34balancing like fun and action adventure and also like
- 33:39emotional beats really, really well.
- 33:45How do you feel about Andrew Garfield?
- 33:47He's the one we haven't talked about yet.
- 33:48Now I like Andrew. And I know I ragged on on
- 33:51Amazing spider man 2 two. That movie is just very like
- 33:56disjointed, but I really like Andrew.
- 33:58I really enjoyed amazing spider man 1.
- 34:01I feel like that's a really good movie.
- 34:03I think he I think Andrew Garfield should have played
- 34:08college age Peter Parker. That's my hot date is because he
- 34:11looks and personality was way too like secretly nonchalant
- 34:17cool for that age of Peter and but I do feel like like he could
- 34:22have been a really good like older Peter and that's why
- 34:27everybody wants to see like a more developed like Andrew
- 34:30spider man. But I really like that movie.
- 34:32Like again, it's like, how do you follow up Toby?
- 34:35And at the time I remember when it came out, I was a kid too at
- 34:38that point, so I liked it, but everyone's like, Oh, it's so
- 34:41different. But I really liked Electro too.
- 34:44So when the trailers for I think Spider Man 2 came out, I was
- 34:47like, Oh my God. And like, there's good parts of
- 34:50that movie, but it's just like. Felt like the ugly.
- 34:54Ass like green golf. I don't even remember that
- 34:57actor's name like but he's good. He's just.
- 35:02He's not Toby. For me, you know, nobody could
- 35:05be Toby. Like one of my buddies really
- 35:10likes Andrew and he's definitely if he's if that like thing about
- 35:17I mean just Spider Man 2, like if you if you don't like that or
- 35:20if you like that but you don't like Spider Man 3, if that gets
- 35:22in one of the clips, he's going to be like, bro, what are you
- 35:25talking about? Like it's definitely.
- 35:27It's getting in the clip. It's shout out I love.
- 35:30I love Andrew but you got to have more than one good movie
- 35:33bro. Like like he only got 1 good
- 35:35movie Loki like he did have a good.
- 35:37Movie. It just happened to be Tom
- 35:39Holland's third movie. Like this, Yeah.
- 35:43Literally. Literally actually though, like,
- 35:46no, you're so right, though. You're so right.
- 35:50He just, it was timing. I think he was fucked by the
- 35:53timing of the Sony Marvel deals and bringing that back together.
- 35:58And they were like, you know, we got to just pick a new Spider
- 36:01Man. And like, I think he could have
- 36:05been a good MCU Spider Man if the timing had been right.
- 36:07Like I think it just Andrew Garfield's a really good actor.
- 36:11Yeah. Just nerd vibe timing.
- 36:15Yeah. Circumstance like he had to be
- 36:17the second spider man, so he was kind of shot in the foot by
- 36:20that. I think just luck of the draw.
- 36:25Definitely like the. Scene in Is it No.
- 36:29What is the third movie? No way home?
- 36:31Is that right? I I can never remember,
- 36:34especially with those 3. They all.
- 36:38Sound the same I'm I suck with names anyways, but in no way
- 36:42home when like the scene where they meet MJ, they meet him for
- 36:47the first time and he's like, come on I'm spider man I'm Peter
- 36:51Parker and then all the way to when he catches MJ, she's
- 36:56falling and is like in tears 'cause he's like redeemed
- 37:00himself finally for by for like his biggest failure like that.
- 37:06That character arc is is good. I'm not getting chills talking
- 37:10about it dude. I think I.
- 37:12Think I cried multiple times seeing that movie.
- 37:15I saw that like the the day it drops with my family and stuff
- 37:19and I argue with that scene. I was.
- 37:22Breathless. I literally was like.
- 37:25He's like reaching for it. And I was like, like doing the
- 37:28old lady thing, like like I can't watch.
- 37:34You could argue it's like. A lot of fanservice, but it's
- 37:37like the best kind of fanservice.
- 37:38It's like all these all these villains from past movies that I
- 37:43loved the spider man that I grew up with yes, all of it in one
- 37:48movie together. I just it's fun, like it felt
- 37:52like playing with my. Action figures The whole time
- 37:55I'm like, like. Like the whole time.
- 38:00Like. Just driving a random.
- 38:04Like there's so many on my desk right now.
- 38:07We got the Juggernaut. We got the Juggernaut.
- 38:11ULK Buster. Like I have a problem.
- 38:15It's like you. Are you a fan of the like Miles
- 38:22Morales movies? The Yes.
- 38:26I really enjoyed both of those. Like I mean they're so good.
- 38:30Like the animation is insane. I think it like what's crazy?
- 38:34We're going to. I don't even know when that
- 38:36third one's supposed to come out, but I mean supposed to come
- 38:38out next year. Maybe the second one was really.
- 38:41Ambitious and really good. I think like the the bigger
- 38:44ensemble cast was really cool and like the, the increase, like
- 38:49diversity of the animation styles was really interesting
- 38:52and, and, but also like there was just so many like moments
- 38:57from the first one. I I like I watched that movie so
- 39:00many times after it came out, Like it was just so good.
- 39:02Like, and it's the rewatchable too.
- 39:05Like, yes, there's so much. Heart in it.
- 39:08Like it's like there's very few, there's very few movies.
- 39:13That I will rewatch in my old age, but that's one that I've
- 39:16watched several times. It's come out both of them live.
- 39:20What's that? James Johnson.
- 39:23Oh yeah. Now he's, oh, the music's great,
- 39:26too. The whole the soundtrack for.
- 39:28That movie, I mean, like, it's Sunflower was like one of the
- 39:31biggest hits of that year. Like genuine, like not even,
- 39:34well, just outside of the movie. Yeah.
- 39:36So catchy. The voice acting is so good.
- 39:39Hailee Steinfeld's so good in that movie.
- 39:41Like the the the villain design is so interesting.
- 39:45Like have you watched have you watched spider man noir?
- 39:49The. No, not yet.
- 39:51I. Need to still I need to like
- 39:53it's on my list I started. Watching 1 episode and I kind of
- 39:56was like yeah and I but I need to go back to it.
- 39:59Except I've heard it's good. I get.
- 40:01So behind on like like I used to like have like I'm like, I used
- 40:05to have so much time to watch everything and now it's like I I
- 40:09eventually get to everything. But like, yeah, I got give me a
- 40:12minute. Like, yeah, I feel that.
- 40:15I especially since I started this podcast, number one, I'm
- 40:18doing interviews all the time, which is so cool and I love it.
- 40:23But also every time I interview someone, I walk away with like
- 40:27something new that I want to get into.
- 40:29So I have like this just a huge backlog at this point of stuff
- 40:33to to yeah, to start digging into.
- 40:37And you got to play hell divers. Too.
- 40:38So like right? I got to start hell diving now.
- 40:42I'll have to get your your PlayStation thing.
- 40:44I'll send. It to you?
- 40:45No. I'll send it to you.
- 40:47I I. I, I don't want to go too far
- 40:51back to hell divers because I want to make sure we have time
- 40:52for, for Transformers. But of course.
- 40:56I did. Like I started playing hell
- 40:58divers. I think my biggest thing with
- 41:00that with that game is I I came in late.
- 41:04I didn't have friends. To play with necessarily, and I
- 41:08didn't know what I was doing enough to play with a bunch of
- 41:11random people. It's hard.
- 41:14It is hard when you're really learning.
- 41:15I think that's what turns a lot of people off is like getting
- 41:19like the game trying to play with randoms if nobody's helping
- 41:22you. That's why when I, if I see
- 41:24lower level players or like people who have mics or this is
- 41:28my first game, like I try to help other like people who work
- 41:35because it's so overwhelming. There's so many things going on
- 41:38and you're like actually trying to complete the objective and
- 41:40then you just die again and again.
- 41:43It's kind of it's like disheartening, but definitely
- 41:46like shoot me your PlayStation and I will for sure.
- 41:50Even if like I know there's there's a couple of people in
- 41:53other bands like I that I like oh, playing hell divers too.
- 41:57Like like, you mean like it happens so many times.
- 42:00Like I'll hang out with another band on tour and we're like, Oh,
- 42:03you play that too. And it's like, let's play some
- 42:05games. Like I'm supposed to play out
- 42:06last trials with Viddy from Moose Creek Park.
- 42:08That hasn't happened yet. Sorry, Viddy, I love you.
- 42:10But like, it's just, you know, it's like I got a list, so I got
- 42:14you like. So Transformers.
- 42:19Rest in peace, we. Call it man more than meets the
- 42:22eye. That's that's heartbreaking.
- 42:25That's like, that's another like formative part of my childhood.
- 42:30Where's Optimist? You want to know something?
- 42:34Really. Funny, I almost messaged you
- 42:36when we were talking back and forth about coming on the show
- 42:39and I was going to be like, you should like bring your you
- 42:42should do some like show and tell with your like I just do
- 42:44some show and tell and you're. Just doing it anyways.
- 42:47Yeah, is. That most of my favorite stuff
- 42:50and I'll before we get off, I will show you what is probably
- 42:52my absolute favorite action figure.
- 42:55It's like a most of my stuff is in pretty easy reach, but this
- 42:57is my optimist. There was a newer one that's
- 43:00like $80.00 that came out like last year.
- 43:04The, I bought a lot of Transformers when I started
- 43:07getting back into collecting a few years ago.
- 43:09But since like, you know, every like tariffs on plastic and, and
- 43:13oil prices and things like that, there's so much plastic that
- 43:16goes into these that the price of Transformers has just gone up
- 43:20like damn near every month. So I'm maybe if I see one at
- 43:24Comic Con and like, you know, rest in peace, Peter Colin.
- 43:27I think I've heard that man's voice on like.
- 43:30Oh my God. Like.
- 43:32And it's not just Transformers too.
- 43:33Like, I mean, obviously he had a very storied voice acting
- 43:35career, but both with the the movies and like that came out
- 43:40when I was a kid and I had a DVD set of the first two seasons of
- 43:45the original cartoon. And I wore, we had ATV in my
- 43:49basement, like in the area of the basement that's not my room
- 43:53actually, which is funny. But we had ATV with no cable,
- 43:56but it just had a DVD player. So we I would just over and over
- 44:01again just watch the show like for hours at night.
- 44:03I would stay up to like 2:00 AM and watch like Transformers on
- 44:06DVD. And it's just like he was such a
- 44:09great voice actor and just so well liked by like his peers.
- 44:13And I, I never when I go to conventions and comic cons and
- 44:18like that I'm not usually like an autographs type of guy, but
- 44:21that's definitely one that I wish I definitely had.
- 44:24You know what I'm saying? Rest in peace.
- 44:27But yes, Transformers you are supposed to make the noises when
- 44:32you transform them if you're playing with them.
- 44:34If you're playing with a transformer and you transformer
- 44:37and you don't make the noises, you're you're bad person.
- 44:40You're Larping, Yeah, you're going to hell.
- 44:42You're. Going to hell.
- 44:46You already answered a lot of my.
- 44:47Questions with your back story there, what's?
- 44:51I know that there's a. Point for me, and it's probably
- 44:55it's, it's maybe like the third movie where I just couldn't do
- 44:58Transformer movies anymore. It just got too corny, Michael.
- 45:04It, it, it, it hits a certain point.
- 45:06Yeah. He.
- 45:07He. Kind of like.
- 45:08Ran out of ideas I don't I don't like think about Transformers
- 45:13four and five. They don't exist to me.
- 45:16I I tried to sit down and watch both of them a while ago, like
- 45:21for like a like a second time and it's just, it's just bad.
- 45:26The first two especially are like are good. 3 was good
- 45:31because that came out when I was like 12 too.
- 45:33So of course I like it. I would say if that's how you
- 45:38feel about it, I would You should watch Transformers 1, the
- 45:42animated movie. It came out a few years ago.
- 45:45I was really kind of not. I didn't go into it with good
- 45:49expectations both because one, every movie is 2D animated these
- 45:53days and I really I want studios to go back to making more or is
- 45:58it more 2D animated? Not a 3D animated movie.
- 46:01Sorry, I think I misspoke a second ago.
- 46:02Everything's 3D these days and everything's that fucking like
- 46:06modelled 3D animation. And it's like, yes, the it's
- 46:09like the technology for it is, is good.
- 46:12But I want like, I want to watch a 2D animated movie on the big
- 46:19screen, like a 2D superhero movie or something like that
- 46:22would be amazing. So I kind of was like, and it
- 46:24was like Chris Hemsworth was playing Optimus Prime in the
- 46:28movie. So I was like, I don't know how
- 46:29I feel about this, but I took my brother to see it.
- 46:32I'm the oldest of a bunch of siblings.
- 46:34So like I take like, you know, every time I go to a movie, I'm
- 46:37probably taking one of them to at this point.
- 46:39But like, I took just him because he I got him to trans
- 46:42into Transformers as well because he is like 11.
- 46:46And I was just so blown away. And it is like it's the origin
- 46:52story of Office Prime and Megatron.
- 46:55But there's so much heart in it too.
- 46:57And in the movie, there's so many little references and and
- 47:01things that I was catching where it's like for the like the
- 47:05Transformers nerds, like the dudes who wear khaki shorts and
- 47:08shit like that. Like I was like, oh, this is for
- 47:10me. Like the dudes that wear.
- 47:12Khaki shirts. No, I saw.
- 47:15There was this old man, like an older, like a like a 56 year old
- 47:20guy wearing a graphic tee and the same style of cargo shorts
- 47:25that I was wearing in the toy all at Walmart once.
- 47:27And he walked away and I was like, that is my future.
- 47:31I was like, Oh my, that's me. But I used to watch that.
- 47:36And if you're, if you like to read comics at all, the
- 47:39Transformers comics like the IDW and some of the more recent
- 47:44Energon universe comics are really good and very dark too.
- 47:49Like a lot more adult, a lot more like violent, a lot more
- 47:54like because Transformers like it is they are at war.
- 47:58Like, you know, they are like if your favorite Autobot shows up
- 48:02in the Transformers comic, there's a decent chance they're
- 48:04dying on the next page. Like like and it's like, do you
- 48:07like do you flip the page and you're like, oh, warpath, I
- 48:11haven't seen you in a while. And then you and he's getting
- 48:13blown to a million pieces on the next page.
- 48:16Like, but I like the Michael Bay stuff is good for its time.
- 48:22I definitely like fundamentally am not a fan of like a lot of
- 48:27the designs in those movies. I think they're supposed to look
- 48:31kind of big and clunky. They are cars and like it's just
- 48:37like there is just that too many little pieces.
- 48:41It's like I don't like that where they like start as a truck
- 48:45and then they they do this and then they and then they're just
- 48:48like a a robot. It's like I want to see it.
- 48:51I want to see it happen. You know what I'm saying?
- 48:52Like I want to see show me make the.
- 48:54Noises make the sounds and show me the transformations.
- 49:00I like Transformers I. Feel like it's kind of fallen
- 49:03out of the cultural zeitgeist too, like I had Transformers.
- 49:06Bed sheets, I'm pretty sure when I was a kid.
- 49:08There you go. I'm I'm almost.
- 49:11Positive. Now I got to go look.
- 49:14I watched the cartoon as a kid. I watched the 1st 2 movies.
- 49:17It's been many years. I tried to get my son to like,
- 49:20want to play with Transformers and he just wasn't super into it
- 49:23at the time. Maybe, maybe, maybe we need to
- 49:26make a comeback, revisit that later, revisit.
- 49:29That later like. So I have so this is my we just
- 49:35have a few minutes left. I think I don't want to run us
- 49:39over, but this is my my my game at at the end here, my my
- 49:45content farming game so to speak.
- 49:48So I'm in. I've got a list of bands here
- 49:50that have that are hummus vacuum adjacent and I'd like to know
- 49:56what your take on which transformer represents them the
- 50:01best. OK.
- 50:03So thoughts on bowling? Thoughts on bowling?
- 50:07I'm going to say Hot Rod, one of my personal favorites.
- 50:13They're like a younger but on the rise and up and coming band
- 50:18that I think could definitely like really hold like a really
- 50:22big and kind of like a a strong place in the scene, especially
- 50:26as they develop and and, you know, continue and stuff.
- 50:30Just like Hot Rod became Rod of his prime and he did not, he did
- 50:34not 'cause Optimus to die. I don't even want to get into
- 50:36that bro. I don't even want to get into
- 50:37that. Equipment.
- 50:41Equipment. Equipment.
- 50:46You know what? There's an.
- 50:47Autobot, his name is cup. He is like his characters.
- 50:52He's like an older grizzled Autobot veteran that he's been
- 50:56around forever and he's seen some shit and like equipment
- 50:59just hit their ten years as a band too, and I remember them
- 51:02being a band when I was in high school.
- 51:03So I think I'm going to give them that one Love equipment.
- 51:09Oh, halftime show and I feel like I'm going all like Autobot
- 51:15characters too, because I don't want to give anybody a bad vibe
- 51:18being a Decepticon character. But oh, halftime show they're
- 51:23and they're so and they're like so emailed, but they're like so
- 51:26different too. Let's see, I'm going to go
- 51:32Springer. He's a an Autobot as as you
- 51:36know, he could transform into three different vehicles, two
- 51:40different vehicles and the robot.
- 51:42So, you know, they're so multifaceted and they're sound
- 51:45at the same time that that's what I'm going to go with.
- 51:47That's what I'm locked in right now.
- 51:49OK, let's go. Adjust the sales.
- 51:53Adjust the. Sales Oh, you know, I'm going to
- 51:58say I'm going to give adjust the sales Optimus Prime because you
- 52:04know he's Shane. I could say you're the Optimus
- 52:06Prime of the scene because both very accessible, but I think
- 52:12that is something that is like a strength of the adjusted sales
- 52:14music is how accessible it is. I mean and true as just a
- 52:22musician too. There's nothing wrong with just
- 52:23a catchy song. You know Optimus Prime, he's the
- 52:27GOAT. He turns into a truck.
- 52:29I wake up with adjust the. Sales in my head more often than
- 52:33I like to admit. All the time.
- 52:35It's catchy. It is.
- 52:36It's really catchy. It's Cinema Stare.
- 52:40Oh, cinema. Stare, cinema stare.
- 52:43Oh, that's hard. And I'm like, I don't want to
- 52:50give them. I think I'm going to say a
- 52:56little one because, you know, and this is not just because
- 53:01they are like a feminine presenting, you know, fronted
- 53:04band. Love you Quinn, but Aleta 1 is
- 53:08badass she's the like actual like second in command of the
- 53:12Autobots and often is really the one pulling a lot of the strings
- 53:17and doing a lot of the actual fighting like behind Optimus
- 53:20like you know and like really holding the shit together.
- 53:23So on this vacuum, on this vacuum I'm.
- 53:28Like what's the worst? Transformer.
- 53:30No, I'm kidding. I'm going to say on this vacuum
- 53:37is a Blur, who is not as popular in the movies, but was in
- 53:45Transformers Animated, which was a favorite cartoon of mine, a 2D
- 53:48animated cartoon from the 2000s. But he is like the fastest
- 53:52Transformer. And there are some parts where I
- 53:55see Cappy's hands on some of those licks and I'm like, what
- 53:58the fuck are you doing bro? Like like I I I texted him when
- 54:03learning some of the songs on the record before I came out
- 54:06after I heard the claws rigged anyway for the first time.
- 54:09I literally texted him and I said you are such a fucker, you
- 54:12know that like you like. It I think that's that's.
- 54:18That's my answer, yeah. The lyrics.
- 54:22The I mean I I I. Am a.
- 54:25Huge a huge hummus vacuum fan so I have to try.
- 54:29Not to rush the songs when we play because the parts are so
- 54:35fast, even for me too, where it's like if we play this any
- 54:39faster, we're not going to be able to play it like it's like,
- 54:41you know, like and it's fun. Like it's that's like hummus
- 54:44packing. It's the music is so like huge
- 54:47and catchy at the same time. But with those little Nuggets
- 54:51like so many times there's like the chorus is like a pretty
- 54:53straight ahead hot punk, power pop drum part, drum beat,
- 54:58whatever. But there's little bits where
- 55:00I'm like, what were you doing in there?
- 55:02Like Kathy, like, like you're it's it's just a little Nuggets
- 55:06that really like, I take it up a level for me.
- 55:08Like I really not, not even just like being a hummus vacuum.
- 55:12I really enjoy just the music and, and just everything like
- 55:15both bands. And I mean, you have to like,
- 55:18you know, you, you have to love what you do.
- 55:20But like I really I enjoy both bands even though I had.
- 55:26I had. Shane blocked on TikTok for like
- 55:286 years on accident. But in my defence, when Mike
- 55:34Walton was trending on TikTok in 2020, I think I saw that like
- 55:39one of his videos like 10 times a day.
- 55:41And they got to a point where I was like, I can't take it
- 55:44anymore. And I blocked him.
- 55:47And then we were on the tour in January when Hummus Vacuum was
- 55:49playing with the Justice sales. And I had I went to tag adjusted
- 55:54sales in a humus vacuum drum video that I was posting like
- 55:57tagged Dear Cincinnati in them. And it was like, this account is
- 56:00blocked. And I was like, like, I was
- 56:03like, and then later at the tour, I was like, Shane, I have
- 56:06to tell you something. And he laughed.
- 56:08Like we laughed. We still laughed at it.
- 56:10He likes to tell people that to like not shame me, but it's like
- 56:13it makes it's like funny where I'll be like, no, like, you
- 56:16know, you were annoying like fairly.
- 56:18You have to be real. Like, you know, he's like, I
- 56:22have more songs to promote now, but I just had that one.
- 56:25I was good one, no? It's a great song.
- 56:29It's one, it's one of my favourites to play, like when
- 56:31when the kids start singing every night, like it's like the
- 56:34most simple song in the set. But I if when I can, I'll tape
- 56:38one of the earbuds out and just listen to them.
- 56:41Yeah, because that's the one everybody knows all the words
- 56:43to. Yeah, it's.
- 56:45Crazy to me how many, like young people show up to adjust the
- 56:51sale shows and know all the words to every song.
- 56:54Like kids that wouldn't otherwise come out to shows.
- 56:57Most of the time I think, yeah, that's it's.
- 56:59It's part of what's really cool too, is it's like.
- 57:02So many kids like I. Never went to shows like that
- 57:04when I was that age when I was and I like.
- 57:08I tell these kids I'm like, go. To more shows, like go to more
- 57:11shows, keep going to shows, but it's cool.
- 57:14Like seeing the music is really fun and it is like the more
- 57:18simple out of the two bands. But just every night, the
- 57:22reaction that the fans have is just really special to me, like
- 57:27adding to all of us, but and to Shane and to everybody.
- 57:29But it's, it is really cool to look up from the drum kit and
- 57:34it's a room full of like 150 teenagers and, and people and,
- 57:40and they're like crying and singing and holding their phones
- 57:43up from recording and like, you know, it's, it's a really cool
- 57:46and it, it is like, like. Reminds you like.
- 57:51What not like what you do this for?
- 57:52Like I don't do, I don't play music for like, like attention
- 57:57from from the fans. And she's like that.
- 57:59You know what I'm saying? Like for like, like the but it's
- 58:01like when you're on the stage, like I, I have, you know, been a
- 58:05musician my whole life pretty much.
- 58:09And when you play, when you grind the play shows to 20
- 58:13people for years where? Nobody knows the.
- 58:18Words, It is really incredible, even though I didn't write the
- 58:21songs obviously and and I am like a higher gun with Shane.
- 58:23It is really cool to just look up from above the drum kit and
- 58:27the symbols and there's a bunch of kids crying and singing.
- 58:30And I mean, it has brought me to like tears multiple times.
- 58:34Just like there's nothing like that in the world.
- 58:38Like there's there's truly nothing in the world like that.
- 58:42And it's like this is what I wake up every day doing like to
- 58:44do like and it's it's just very special, like all that.
- 58:51That's awesome, man, talking, talking about business.
- 58:53That's. OK.
- 58:54I think we're at the business portion of the show.
- 58:57Tell me about. It's about that time.
- 59:00Tell me about hummus vacuum. What do you guys have coming up
- 59:03so? 911 through 914, we are going on
- 59:09tour with Homestyle Dinner rolls, playing for Midwest
- 59:14dates. That's very, it's going to be
- 59:15very fun. I look forward to that.
- 59:18And then we have nothing in October.
- 59:23Working on new music, you know. Giving up?
- 59:28Kathy's going to. Kill me now because I'm giving
- 59:30it out, you know? I mean, we're always, you know,
- 59:32putting songs, you know, putting some stuff together.
- 59:34And then November going back out on tour with Thoughts on
- 59:38Bowling, their headliner, which is very exciting with Moose
- 59:42Creek Park, Awfully Computer as well.
- 59:48I, I look forward to that. With all the touring from this
- 59:52year, I will have spent a total of three months on the road with
- 59:56Berkeley. That's a long.
- 59:59Time like we did the spring. Tour with the.
- 1:00:02Justice Sales. And thoughts on Boiling?
- 1:00:04When I was playing drums for Shane on that tour.
- 1:00:06And then that was about 3 weeks. We just did the month together
- 1:00:11in July and then we have another month together and it's like,
- 1:00:15dude, I thought I've seen you more than my own family.
- 1:00:18Like I've seen it like too much he, I love Berkeley though.
- 1:00:21He's like my little brother at this point.
- 1:00:23Like he is so talented and like, I'm like, he's like, I, I was
- 1:00:30not going on tour at 20 years old.
- 1:00:33Like I, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:34Like I, I really look forward to that tour.
- 1:00:37The thoughts on blowing fans are, are really fun and really
- 1:00:40cool. Similar to the justice sales
- 1:00:42fans. There's kind of a Venn diagram
- 1:00:44of both, like where you can tell, like you probably listen
- 1:00:47to both, but I, I really just going on tour playing like we're
- 1:00:53playing Canada one of the dates. That's going to be really fun.
- 1:00:56It'll be my first time playing out of the country.
- 1:00:59Cool. Like I just like I the hangs are
- 1:01:02going to be really good. Those shows are going to be
- 1:01:05really fun. I love Mitchell the singer
- 1:01:07thoughts on bowling and I have not met Gary, their drummer yet,
- 1:01:12but he seems very cool as well. Obviously very they're all very
- 1:01:16talented, but it's just it's going to be good vibes like and
- 1:01:20it's like, I also like Moose Creek Park's going to be on that
- 1:01:22run. I've spent a bunch of time with
- 1:01:24Vinny and and everybody this year that they're a great group
- 1:01:28of guys. Yo Vinny, some video.
- 1:01:30Game time. I do, I do.
- 1:01:32I haven't. Seen we're going to be on tour
- 1:01:33for like a month so it's like we're not going to be doing it
- 1:01:35then. But I it's cool it you like,
- 1:01:39it's fun on tour. It's like these people like you
- 1:01:43get so close with and then thankfully due to like the
- 1:01:45Internet and to phones, like, you know, you're able to stay in
- 1:01:48contact, but at the same time, it's like at the end of the last
- 1:01:52tour. It's like, yes, we're all stuck.
- 1:01:56With each other and it's like everybody's ready to go home,
- 1:01:59but it's like it's it's own thing.
- 1:02:02Like you're in your own little world.
- 1:02:04Like it feels like you're kind of cut off from everything else
- 1:02:07and like it's going to be really fun.
- 1:02:11It's going to be really good. I think those shows are going to
- 1:02:14be really fun. I'm interested to see a lot of
- 1:02:16those places. Our first time being there for
- 1:02:19Hummus Vacuum as well too. So I think that I'm hoping that
- 1:02:22that is going to be really fun. Lots of new fans with the new
- 1:02:27record and stuff like that. It's.
- 1:02:31Going to be good I. Have to drive the van on this
- 1:02:33tour, but you know, it's cool like.
- 1:02:38I think, I think we're. Done for the year after that.
- 1:02:40I think that's just the last big hurrah this year.
- 1:02:43I mean, I think I will have spent almost like three to four
- 1:02:48months total playing shows are on the road this year, which I'm
- 1:02:51very blessed and grateful to be doing.
- 1:02:53Like he deserve a month off. At the end, why not?
- 1:02:56I will say I've. Had about a month off and it's
- 1:02:58been very nice. Like I from about April to the
- 1:03:03end of July, I played forty shows in about four months,
- 1:03:08which it didn't. I didn't realize how much it was
- 1:03:12until like we got to the end of that tour and I was like, why do
- 1:03:16I feel like I'm going to die if I don't like if I don't get in
- 1:03:18my bed soon? You were doing double.
- 1:03:20Duty for a lot of those shows, for the first half, for the.
- 1:03:23First half of that tour, yeah, that was, that was both really
- 1:03:27awesome and also very intense. Like it was hot.
- 1:03:31A lot of the IT was very hot. And a lot of those shows were
- 1:03:34like a bunch of shows bunched together.
- 1:03:37So it was definitely by like, you know, 5 or 6 in a row.
- 1:03:40Like my wrists are very tired and I'm like very ready to to
- 1:03:45have a break. But it was really cool.
- 1:03:48Everyone's like, dude, you're playing drums in both bands.
- 1:03:51And I'm like, like, yes, I did this to myself.
- 1:03:54Like, yes, I know what I'm doing.
- 1:03:58It was fun. Like getting to pretend to be
- 1:03:59two different drummers every night.
- 1:04:01Yeah. Very different drum parts I
- 1:04:04would imagine, right? I try to like it's.
- 1:04:07Both it like with both it is me up there and I really have been
- 1:04:11trying to lean into like my stylistic influences and stuff
- 1:04:13like that. But I was trying to every night
- 1:04:18approaching it like 2 very different that's I felt like
- 1:04:22every night in the 15 minute changeover because obviously
- 1:04:26nothing had to move for me. I would stand outside or in the
- 1:04:30green room with like a towel and like a bottle of water looking
- 1:04:33like Rocky, like like like looking like a boxer, like
- 1:04:36ringside. And I'm like, I'm like hitting
- 1:04:39my vape and like drinking water and I'm like breathing heavy and
- 1:04:42shit like that, like just getting ready to hell dive.
- 1:04:44Right back in go. Yeah, literally just to.
- 1:04:46Reinforce right back in. I trained for this.
- 1:04:50I, I, I fought for this. Like I like, you know what?
- 1:04:55As soon as we hang out, I'm literally probably going to turn
- 1:04:57the PlayStation on and get on. As soon as we get up, get off.
- 1:05:01Because I already practiced and did all my adult stuff I had to
- 1:05:04do today. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:05Like all the real world. You've earned it.
- 1:05:09Super bands, you did all the good stuff.
- 1:05:12I plugged the band. Does need you?
- 1:05:14I practiced for. Tor I plugged the band, you
- 1:05:19know, I'm ready. I did laundry.
- 1:05:21I'm ready to go like I'm, you know, thank you for having me on
- 1:05:26like thank you for coming. It's fun, very fun to indulge my
- 1:05:30like 3 of my, my interests and my, these things that I'm
- 1:05:35passionate about. Before we go, I would like you
- 1:05:39to beat my son. This is OK.
- 1:05:43So this is the this is my favorite action figure.
- 1:05:46This is the Marvel Legends X-Men 97 Sentinel.
- 1:05:50It is. It's huge.
- 1:05:52I thought it was just close to the camera, but it's it's that's
- 1:05:55large. It is. 2 feet tall for
- 1:05:58reference, this spider man is a six inch scale figure.
- 1:06:02So this is a 6 inch tall action figure.
- 1:06:05This is how tall they look next to each other.
- 1:06:07So the scaling is really like like it's really cool.
- 1:06:11And this is my son. You know, he doesn't really have
- 1:06:13a name. He is the Sentinel.
- 1:06:16Sure, I love him. I would die for him.
- 1:06:19Do you take him on tour with you?
- 1:06:21I do not. Part of I well, I will say on
- 1:06:25the spring tour, our van got broken into and my backpack and
- 1:06:29my and my C pad machine got stolen and everyone's like
- 1:06:32when's bro going to stop talking about it?
- 1:06:34But dude, that. Sucks and it happens so
- 1:06:38frequently to touring bands luckily like.
- 1:06:42Obviously the van was OK and like overall and like none of my
- 1:06:46gear was taken, which financially like that would be
- 1:06:49like the most devastating. But yeah, my favorite Spider Man
- 1:06:52action figure was in that bag because I brought it with me on
- 1:06:54the tour and it's from like a 2 pack from 2022 that's like hard
- 1:06:59to find. So I kind of had just like divin
- 1:07:02up on getting that back. So listen.
- 1:07:04Up. I don't bring some.
- 1:07:06Yeah. Listen up, you.
- 1:07:08Sons of bitches, we're coming for you, Spider Man, I'm coming.
- 1:07:12Home. Daddy's going to get you.
- 1:07:15Do you think and I I? Said this like, you know, they
- 1:07:17took my CPAP and they probably just threw it away because like,
- 1:07:21what are you, you're not going to, what do you do with the
- 1:07:22CPAP? Yeah.
- 1:07:23It's like, do you think my CPAP? Do you think he's cold in
- 1:07:26whatever dumpster or landfill he ended up in?
- 1:07:28Like do you think he's sad he misses me?
- 1:07:31I I had that CPAP since I was in high school.
- 1:07:34I had homeward bounding. Right now.
