Transcript
- 0:00Happy noon on Friday. Hey, we were really busy this
- 0:08morning. Sorry I'm so late with coffee
- 0:11with Kenny, but here we are. You're looking at it.
- 0:14The Dragon, the tale of the dragon.
- 0:17It's we started in Tennessee and we wiggled and we winded and I
- 0:21loved it 'cause I love the banking.
- 0:24Kim was on back. I looked in the mirror.
- 0:26Her fists were like this. There's nothing she could do.
- 0:30We basically stayed in 3rd gear the whole time.
- 0:34But yeah, so let's take a look for a lot of you that don't
- 0:38know. Tale of the Dragon is a very
- 0:41famous winding, I mean, tight, tight winding road.
- 0:47And like Kyle Petty says, look at any record book, any
- 0:51historian book you want to. Tale of the Dragon is like top
- 0:55three in all motorcycle rides and I loved it.
- 1:00Kind of wish I could go back that way on my 2 Wheeler.
- 1:03We did that on Kim's bike at Kimberly Marie but would have
- 1:06loved to done the Tale of the Dragon with my two Wheeler.
- 1:09I will be back and when we when we were coming from Tennessee
- 1:13doing all that whining, you get right to the end and says
- 1:16welcome to North Carolina. And I know brother Rusty and
- 1:21Steven and the whole Southern country custom group.
- 1:24You know, I mean, this is so famous and so much fun.
- 1:27Let's do a little bit of a 360 here and we're going to talk a
- 1:31little racing. So the tail of the dragon, you
- 1:41start, you go up right there and we're at the end of it.
- 1:43So this is kind of a resort. The Kyle Petty charity, right?
- 1:48These are Marshalls for a lot of you that don't know these
- 1:52gentlemen right here. They're called motor marshals.
- 1:55Without them we'd be in trouble. They they cleared the way for
- 1:59us. They make sure hey we don't stop
- 2:02at any red lights anywhere at any time.
- 2:05Actually Wichita, KS and basically everywhere they shut,
- 2:12they shut the interstates down. Look at them.
- 2:16Those guys are award-winning bikes.
- 2:19That man right there says if it fits in a skillet, kill it.
- 2:24That's right. That's the man right there.
- 2:26He gives us our speeches. Basically, don't try to miss a
- 2:30squirrel and run into a tree. Just if it fits in a skillet,
- 2:35kill it. Just go straight.
- 2:57There she is. Can I come down there?
- 3:02Oh, my God, it's an update. I haven't done anything.
- 3:05It's a very late addition of coffee with Kenny.
- 3:10And everybody said even some of the, I believe that was
- 3:14Tennessee police. The Tennessee.
- 3:18The Tennessee police said you're Tennessee and you're over here
- 3:21in North Carolina. I love that.
- 3:25Come on in. OK.
- 3:26The coast is clear. Yes.
- 3:29And Morgan, you made my dream come true.
- 3:32Morgan Petty, everybody. So I didn't know because I
- 3:37lived. I lived in Charlotte, NC for 27
- 3:40years. But Morgan knows this, being
- 3:42married to Kyle. You're laser focused on racing.
- 3:46I never enjoyed anything, so I was always on a racetrack.
- 3:49How many times do you run The Tale of the Dragon?
- 3:53Yeah, I've been with this state for nine years. 9.
- 3:57Years. So for nine years and then I ran
- 4:00the down the dragon when I was at the county.
- 4:03Yeah. So, Morgan.
- 4:06Yeah. I told you, you made my dream
- 4:08come true. It wasn't until after we stopped
- 4:11and they have a tree of shame. Hold on, hold on.
- 4:13Everybody right over there, there's a tree of shame.
- 4:17And what that means is Morgan is there's been so many motorcycles
- 4:23that have wrecked and that is all their spare parts.
- 4:25Is that true? Did they really rest?
- 4:28What do you mean? It's true?
- 4:30It's true. Hold on, Hold on.
- 4:31We got some guys. Is it true?
- 4:33It's very true. Yeah.
- 4:35It's very. True, you'd be surprised to
- 4:38number wrecks. That happened.
- 4:39Say that again. I said you'd.
- 4:40You'd be surprised how many wrecks occur over on the The
- 4:43Dragon sports cars and motorcycles.
- 4:47OK, Morgan, it's all about you right now.
- 4:49Thank you for doing this for me. I want to thank you from the
- 4:54bottom of my heart. This has been a hardcore trip
- 4:59and we're celebrating 250 years in America, but more importantly
- 5:04for you, 30 years of the Cow Petty Charity ride.
- 5:08When you thought about this ride, how did you dream Enough?
- 5:12Like what did you say? Well, I would say this ride is
- 5:15all Kyle Petty really. Yep, he planned the whole route
- 5:19and picked places that are iconic American landmarks,
- 5:23iconic American highways, Route 66, Highway 50, riding the
- 5:27Dragon, going to Graceland, you know, going to wheels three time
- 5:31Johnny Morris's original Bass Pro.
- 5:34It was all about the sights and what makes this country so
- 5:37great. And our 30th anniversary is such
- 5:40a big deal for us, so we wanted to celebrate America.
- 5:45Yeah, and I just want to interject.
- 5:47This is all about the Cow Petty Cheddar ride and we raise money
- 5:51for the Victory Junction game Camp.
- 5:53Kyle said something this morning.
- 5:55It's $2500 to send one child to camp.
- 6:00Is that? Right, One child, that's what it
- 6:02costs, but the families don't pay anything at all.
- 6:04So every time we can, somebody gives us a dollar, $20, you
- 6:08know, $50, it adds up. And we look at that at the end
- 6:12of the year and we say, OK, we raised $2,000,000.
- 6:14How many kids is that going to send to camp?
- 6:16Because that's, that's how we look at everything.
- 6:18So it's all about sending kids to camp.
- 6:19Yeah, one more thing before I let you go.
- 6:22I noticed, you know, months before you do this, you take a
- 6:26dry run. Yep.
- 6:27You load up all your kids, Kyle, your Mama.
- 6:31Yep, that dry run. Does that take longer than this
- 6:35run? We run it in the exact same
- 6:36amount of time that it takes us to do the charity ride.
- 6:38So we'll wake up at 6:00 in the morning and hit the road and I
- 6:41have all the Google Maps directions, we have the Atlas,
- 6:44but I'm writing every single turn down.
- 6:46Every traffic light. We write it down, down to the
- 6:4910th of a mile. And then I come back and I type
- 6:51it all up and that's what we follow.
- 6:52That's our route Bible. And you are a damn gangster.
- 6:56Every. I've heard more people.
- 6:57This is my 4th one. I've heard more people say it's
- 7:01unbelievably organized. We come into Wichita, KS and
- 7:05this girl right here shut the highway down.
- 7:09We had the highway shut down in Memphis, TN Yeah.
- 7:12Chattanooga. How do you do that?
- 7:14Springfield working with local law enforcement.
- 7:16I pick up the phone and I, I cold call and I hope that
- 7:20someone's going to answer or call me back.
- 7:22And I've been fortunate to make really awesome relationships
- 7:25through the years with a law enforcement at a local, county,
- 7:29state level and they're all amazing.
- 7:31They help us. OK, cold call triggered me
- 7:34because the only way I ran 905 NASCAR races is I had to get
- 7:39sponsorship and the word cold call means you just call
- 7:42somebody that's. How I did too pick up.
- 7:44The phone Pick up the phone you. Know what Carl's always said, If
- 7:48you don't ask, you don't know. I love you.
- 7:52Thank you, Morgan. Love you.
- 7:53Awesome. Alright, everybody just right
- 7:57there want to take hold on. We gotta just show this logo,
- 8:00show this man right here playing.
- 8:03Thank you, buddy. I appreciate it, Sheriff Brian.
- 8:06Thank you, buddy. Appreciate you guys so much, and
- 8:11we're going to end this a little bit.
- 8:12I know you all want to talk about Watkins Glen.
- 8:16Now we're going to do racing. OK?
- 8:19So let's end like this, everybody.
- 8:27You never know what NASCAR is going to do.
- 8:29And it is my opinion, and I don't know if I'm right or not,
- 8:34but NASCAR needed to go out to San Diego because that is part
- 8:39of Ben Kennedy's vision. And Ben said, OK, we, you know,
- 8:43we're going to do Bowman Gray, but yet we're going to go to
- 8:46Rockingham, We're going to do Coronado, we're going to go San
- 8:50Diego, but oh, we're going to go back to Wilkesboro.
- 8:53You give and get. So for everybody at Watkins
- 8:57Glen, I understand. And like I said, I respect you
- 9:00and I heard you. But we did all that complaining,
- 9:05which I'm not mad at you all, you had a right to complain.
- 9:07And I know the weather's bad up there right now, but they got
- 9:10rain tires. I got to tell you one thing,
- 9:14Schrader said. Schrader said they were all
- 9:17drinking the night before at Watkins Glen.
- 9:20And they're like, oh, they feel so bad in the morning and
- 9:22practice is like 9:00 and guys in his motorhome, race car
- 9:29driver, it's raining. He said, oh, thank God practice
- 9:32is cancelled. Oh, no, we got rain tires.
- 9:38And now NASCAR's really got rain tires.
- 9:41So I would say enjoy this weather.
- 9:47Everybody in Watkins Glen and understand that the big
- 9:50announcement is that Watkins Glen is going to be in the
- 9:53playoffs in September next year. So you gave up one year and
- 9:58you're going to have memories of all the mud everywhere and the
- 10:01rain tires. You know, it's kind of like just
- 10:05the time you remember those times, it's well worth it.
- 10:10All right, So enjoy the moment. Understand NASCAR scheduling.
- 10:14Ben Kennedy is trying to give everybody a taste of, you know,
- 10:20different scheduling because people will say, hey, tired of
- 10:24the class being here, so let's move it here.
- 10:26And I think that's what we're doing right now in NASCAR is we
- 10:30are moving the schedule around. So everybody in Watkins Glen,
- 10:34all of you in the Northeast toughen up.
- 10:36You gave up this year to get something better next year.
