- 0:00Speaker 2: Time.
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now we're back to the basics and healthcare with balanced
- 0:02Speaker 1: life Chiropractic. I was just getting tongue tied and we're
- 0:05Speaker 1: going to talk about tongue ties. Is that a different
- 0:07Speaker 1: kind of tongue tied?
- 0:08Speaker 2: A little bit different?
- 0:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so you had mentioned that. That's why I was
- 0:11Speaker 1: so confused. I'm like, what does that mean to be? So,
- 0:13Speaker 1: what is a tongue tie?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Oh, We've been talking about some different things recently. So
- 0:18Speaker 2: if you are a parent and you have a newborn,
- 0:22Speaker 2: or you have had some young children, I mean, even
- 0:24Speaker 2: if your children are twenty thirty years old, you might
- 0:27Speaker 2: be familiar with what we're going to talk about. We're
- 0:29Speaker 2: going to talk about tongue ties and lip ties.
- 0:31Speaker 1: So tongue ties and lipt I don't know. I feel
- 0:34Speaker 1: like I'm speaking a different language.
- 0:36Speaker 2: What does that mean? Right? So we've been talking a
- 0:37Speaker 2: lot about like kind of connective tissue fascia. You know,
- 0:41Speaker 2: last week we talked about PEBLC floor before they were
- 0:43Speaker 2: talking about TMJ signus all that kind of stuff. We
- 0:46Speaker 2: talked about how they're all connected in a way. If
- 0:48Speaker 2: you were to dissect out all the fashion our body.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So a tongue tie is if you lift up your tongue,
- 0:55Speaker 2: you might notice a kind of long, stringy kind of
- 1:00Speaker 2: nectar between your tongue and the floor of your mouth.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So it's called the frenulum, and so we all have one,
- 1:07Speaker 2: but sometimes, especially in babies, it can actually develop more
- 1:10Speaker 2: farther out on the tongue, so it's like the tip
- 1:12Speaker 2: of the tongue can't lift. So when babies are eating,
- 1:15Speaker 2: their tongue creates suction with the roof of their mouth,
- 1:19Speaker 2: and if they have that tongue tie, they're not able
- 1:22Speaker 2: to lift their tongue enough to create that vacuum, that suction,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and so babies that struggle with eating, you know, however
- 1:30Speaker 2: they eat, they notice they're not getting a good enough seals,
- 1:34Speaker 2: so they might not actually be eating enough food or
- 1:36Speaker 2: they're getting a lot of air. So if you have
- 1:39Speaker 2: a very baby that has a lot of infantile reflux,
- 1:42Speaker 2: you know, burping a lot, or you know, immediately like
- 1:46Speaker 2: projectile vomiting after eating, that can be a common sign
- 1:49Speaker 2: of a lypt tie. A ton we were talking about
- 1:53Speaker 2: tongue ties. Lypt tie is also similar, so you also
- 1:55Speaker 2: have those kind of like connector things in the top
- 1:58Speaker 2: and the bottom that translates. We know, so if you're
- 2:04Speaker 2: to pull down your your bottom or your upper lip,
- 2:06Speaker 2: you'll notice that there's that kind of stringy components also there.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I just checked, I have one. Again.
- 2:13Speaker 2: They're normal to have, but the problem is when they're
- 2:15Speaker 2: too tight and they're not allowing enough movement. Especially we
- 2:19Speaker 2: see those babies specifically when they're eating, they're not going
- 2:22Speaker 2: to get enough food. And this can also cause problems
- 2:25Speaker 2: with toddlers and you know as they're getting older and older,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and it can actually be related to behavioral issues as well.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And there are ways to correct a tongue tie or
- 2:35Speaker 2: a lip tie. You'll see this in a pediatric dentist's
- 2:39Speaker 2: offices that they have a specific kind of laser system
- 2:43Speaker 2: that they can easily cut that and that's really the
- 2:45Speaker 2: treatment for those if they're too tight, is you cut
- 2:48Speaker 2: them and you know they're they're they're clean, they're you know,
- 2:52Speaker 2: safe procedures. I don't do them in my office. That's
- 2:55Speaker 2: not something chiropractors. But we can also we can diagnose
- 2:58Speaker 2: that we can see, oh, your baby is or your child,
- 3:00Speaker 2: we're seeing that they have this tongue tire, this lip
- 3:03Speaker 2: tie that can be causing some of their issues. It
- 3:06Speaker 2: could be you know, postural issues, it can be you know,
- 3:10Speaker 2: sleeping problems, that kind of stuff. So it's a simple
- 3:13Speaker 2: treatment to work on correcting those. I can't think off
- 3:17Speaker 2: the top of my head of who in suit falls.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I know there's a dentist in Mitchell that specifically treats
- 3:22Speaker 2: tongue ties. Lip ties, I can't think of. I'm sure
- 3:25Speaker 2: there aren't two falls. I can't think them off the
- 3:26Speaker 2: top of my head.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But again, this didn't even know this was a thing.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So when she said we're going to talk about tongue ties,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I thought it was about like, there are times that
- 3:34Speaker 1: I don't I stumble over my words, and I call
- 3:37Speaker 1: that being tongue tied. Is that the same? That's something different,
- 3:39Speaker 1: completely right.
- 3:40Speaker 2: No, that's different that you know, that's your stumbling over
- 3:44Speaker 2: what words to say versus I.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Call that speaking incursive. And my handwriting is horrible and
- 3:50Speaker 1: sometimes my speech is as well. If somebody does think that, hey,
- 3:54Speaker 1: maybe that's what is going on, you said you can
- 3:56Speaker 1: diagnose that, so they would just come in and you'd say, hey,
- 3:59Speaker 1: this is what you need.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yep, that's something that can be a quick look in
- 4:03Speaker 2: the mouth and you can see if that is present
- 4:05Speaker 2: and if it's causing. It can cause speaking issues with kids,
- 4:08Speaker 2: like if their tongue can't move fast enough, you know,
- 4:11Speaker 2: because our tongue is what creates a lot of the
- 4:13Speaker 2: words that we and that we speak, So there's a
- 4:16Speaker 2: lot of different things that can be related to that.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So whether somebody needs help with that or any other
- 4:21Speaker 1: sort of thing that chiropractic can help with. I've got
- 4:23Speaker 1: a sore back or back aches or headaches or those
- 4:25Speaker 1: kind of things, how do they get in touch with you?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah, chiropractic can help with so many things. And I
- 4:29Speaker 2: know we've talked about some different things recently, but obviously
- 4:32Speaker 2: we still deal with the common things headaches, neck pain,
- 4:34Speaker 2: back pain. So a simple way is getting a consultation
