- 0:01Speaker 1: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:04Speaker 1: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:08Speaker 1: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 0:52Speaker 3: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 0:54Speaker 2: And I'm Greg.
- 0:55Speaker 4: All right.
- 0:56Speaker 5: And we are actually live here on the floor of
- 1:00Speaker 5: the Fright Night Film Fest.
- 1:03Speaker 3: What's your take on it so far, Greg?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Well, I haven't seen much of it. I've been behind
- 1:11Speaker 2: the desk. We've talked to a few people so far.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Looks like a lot of fun. I probably want to
- 1:15Speaker 2: get up and look around. Mostly I'm just staring at
- 1:18Speaker 2: the you-can-buy-every-Nintendo-game-ever-made-on-one-disc kiosk. I'm sure that's licensed by Nintendo. Entirely.
- 1:29Speaker 5: I'm sure much as all those movies over there are
- 1:32Speaker 5: completely licensed through each and every studio that put them out.
- 1:35Speaker 2: He's got documents for all of them.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I believe so, yeah. Just ask him for them when
- 1:39Speaker 3: you buy it. He'll give you a little certificate to
- 1:41Speaker 3: go with each one of them.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Other than that, let's see. We've seen a fat Jason.
- 1:46Speaker 5: That was pretty fun.
- 1:48Speaker 2: A fat Jason that we know could never catch us.
- 1:53Speaker 3: You're pretty sure.
- 1:54Speaker 5: I mean, and he does walk a whole lot. You'd
- 1:56Speaker 5: think he'd shed a few of those pounds.
- 1:58Speaker 6: Right.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I think, yeah, he should be a little trimmer. Maybe
- 2:02Speaker 2: he's been drinking too much beer recently.
- 2:04Speaker 3: That's true.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Maybe the camp's not getting as much kids at it
- 2:08Speaker 2: this time of year. Maybe it's the economy. Sitting around
- 2:11Speaker 2: just drinking beer. That's true.
- 2:14Speaker 3: That's most of America at this point.
- 2:15Speaker 5: So I guess, you know, not just the fat new
- 2:19Speaker 5: generation of kids getting heavier and heavier.
- 2:21Speaker 3: It's also the serial killers out there.
- 2:22Speaker 2: He still may have the mind of a kid. He
- 2:25Speaker 2: might be drinking too much Kool-Aid.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Who knows? Never can tell.
- 2:31Speaker 2: They say Crystal Lake, not Crystal Light.
- 2:35Speaker 6: Wow.
- 2:36Speaker 2: So, okay. Anything else we've seen? There's a lot of
- 2:42Speaker 2: guys that look like either they never work out or
- 2:45Speaker 2: they always work out. There's no deviation. There's no one
- 2:48Speaker 2: regular here.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Mostly just that one guy. He actually works out. Everybody else,
- 2:53Speaker 3: not so much.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Right.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But I can't talk.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and I was going to say, I include myself
- 2:57Speaker 3: in that category. What are you going to do? That's fine.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I was impressed a few moments ago. A kid came by,
- 3:03Speaker 2: probably nine, Child's Play 2 shirt on, and he knows
- 3:08Speaker 2: infinitely more about horror than I could ever know. He
- 3:10Speaker 2: was the real deal. And I just sat here with
- 3:13Speaker 2: my jaw open thinking, your dad lets you watch this?
- 3:18Speaker 2: So I'm impressed.
- 3:20Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I want to see his DVD collection.
- 3:23Speaker 3: We need more kids like that.
- 3:24Speaker 5: And I'm sure if he can watch those kind of movies,
- 3:27Speaker 5: he can listen to our, you know, whatever sort of
- 3:29Speaker 5: horrible language we've thrown out there that week.
- 3:30Speaker 3: So I'm sure his parents are fine with that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 3:33Speaker 6: No. Definitely.
- 3:35Speaker 2: He's heard it all.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Before, I'm sure. And then we also took it upon
- 3:39Speaker 3: ourselves to get a beverage.
- 3:41Speaker 7: Yes.
- 3:42Speaker 2: The staff here were very kind. I asked about 11
- 3:45Speaker 2: people for a cup of coffee. even though it's about
- 3:49Speaker 2: 100 degrees here in the facility.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, we're a special breed. We do things a little differently.
- 3:54Speaker 2: The staff was very polite and kind and even took
- 3:57Speaker 2: me to the kitchen to show me how I could
- 3:59Speaker 2: get some coffee.
- 4:00Speaker 3: He made us a pot of coffee.
- 4:01Speaker 2: He made us a pot of coffee just for the
- 4:03Speaker 2: two of us. So we're this extra special VIP.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Yeah, we've considered ourselves VIP. We don't really have those
- 4:09Speaker 5: fancy passes like some of the guys walking around do,
- 4:11Speaker 5: but we did get coffee made for us special.
- 4:14Speaker 3: That beat that. That's pretty awesome, right?
- 4:17Speaker 2: I'm going to write VIP on my name tag with
- 4:19Speaker 2: a sharpie.
- 4:20Speaker 5: I'm going to write it on my coffee cup, because
- 4:22Speaker 5: it's the only VIP action I'm getting rid of right now.
- 4:25Speaker 3: It's fancy coffee.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Well, Brian, what have you seen that you like so far?
- 4:29Speaker 2: Have you seen anything new?
- 4:31Speaker 3: I've set up the table, and that's pretty much it
- 4:33Speaker 3: so far.
- 4:34Speaker 5: So.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I wandered around trying to find our table, and then
- 4:38Speaker 3: that's about it.
- 4:39Speaker 2: So this truly is day one.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Yeah, this is day one of our adventures here at
- 4:44Speaker 5: the Fright Night Film Fest.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I don't know if there's anything else I've seen that
- 4:48Speaker 2: I can comment on. I don't want to comment on
- 4:50Speaker 2: the people passing by, because they might listen.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Oh, it didn't stop us last year. We did have
- 4:57Speaker 5: an awesome conversation with a woman explaining to her about
- 5:00Speaker 5: the Trilogy of Terror that we've just recently gone into.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Would you like to comment on your thoughts on the
- 5:06Speaker 5: Film Fest, sir?
- 5:09Speaker 3: I just got here.
- 5:10Speaker 8: I don't know yet.
- 5:11Speaker 3: How was Zombie Stock? You were over there. This is Mr.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Dave Pollard. Artist extraordinaire. It was pretty cool. Did you
- 5:19Speaker 3: see the music involved?
- 5:23Speaker 5: No, I actually mostly sit over in the corner wondering
- 5:25Speaker 5: where my friend was supposed to show up with my
- 5:26Speaker 5: food who never showed up.
- 5:28Speaker 3: This is how these film fests go.
- 5:30Speaker 5: All I've seen is this table right here.
- 5:31Speaker 3: All you saw was that guy not bringing you food.
- 5:34Speaker 9: I was wondering why people could be zombies at that point.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Eat somebody. Boom! So eventually you ate someone's brains.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I'll put it in the cooler.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I'm going to save it.
- 5:45Speaker 5: If I don't get something else, I'm going to have
- 5:46Speaker 5: something to fall back on.
- 5:48Speaker 3: It's good to have, you know, leftovers.
- 5:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:53Speaker 3: We will be here if I can escape.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I'll probably just be here all day.
- 5:58Speaker 5: See?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Newsflash, ladies and gentlemen. We just had Fat Jason and
- 6:06Speaker 2: the Michael Myers, who's much thinner than Jason, both check
- 6:10Speaker 2: out the... buy every Nintendo game ever on one disc.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And they looked like they both wanted to purchase it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I was thinking they were actually the... Although that's Alien vs.
- 6:22Speaker 6: Predator.
- 6:22Speaker 2: The Friday the 13th game is up there.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yeah, the NES version.
- 6:25Speaker 2: The NES version. Old school model. But I wanted to
- 6:29Speaker 2: see them throw down.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Slashers have a lot of free time on their hands.
- 6:32Speaker 5: I guess when not stabbing people, you know, you've got
- 6:34Speaker 5: to find something to kill all the rest of these
- 6:36Speaker 5: hours of the day.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 6:38Speaker 6: So.
- 6:40Speaker 2: All the things you see here.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I can't even comment.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I'm sorry. That guy's wearing my shirt. It's pretty awesome.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Motherfucker's wearing my shirt.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Motherfucker, take my shirt off.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Groovy. I guess we can move on into the buzz
- 7:03Speaker 5: this week. We're going to try to just do it
- 7:05Speaker 5: as we go on throughout the weekend. Throw a few different...
- 7:09Speaker 5: key stories here and there and see what everybody's take
- 7:11Speaker 5: on them is.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:12Speaker 3: If you're up for it, sir.
- 7:14Speaker 10: Why not?
- 7:15Speaker 11: Alright.
- 7:16Speaker 5: So, a few weeks ago, we had news that Guillermo
- 7:19Speaker 5: del Toro, what he might be doing, instead of directing
- 7:21Speaker 5: the two Hobbit films, and originally it was writing and
- 7:24Speaker 5: producing a new Van Helsing movie, quickly, he threw that
- 7:29Speaker 5: down and he said, I don't know if that's totally
- 7:31Speaker 5: off the table now, but he wanted to clear it
- 7:33Speaker 5: up and he was waiting until his appearance at Comic-Con
- 7:35Speaker 5: this past week to give his big announcement. And the
- 7:39Speaker 5: big announcement is that he is assigned to write and
- 7:42Speaker 5: produce a new movie based on Disney's popular Haunted Mansion
- 7:46Speaker 5: theme park attraction.
- 7:48Speaker 8: Okay.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Well, first of all, anything that has to do with
- 7:51Speaker 2: the Haunted Mansion really turns me off because that Haunted
- 7:56Speaker 2: Mansion movie with Eddie Murphy was possibly the worst thing
- 8:00Speaker 2: I've ever seen. I don't know how anybody could have
- 8:04Speaker 2: sat around and said, let's put this out. They should
- 8:06Speaker 2: have hidden that away in the vault somewhere. And the
- 8:09Speaker 2: fact that they changed, I went to Disney after that
- 8:12Speaker 2: movie was made, and the fact that they changed the
- 8:14Speaker 2: Haunted Mansion ride to reflect scenes of that movie is
- 8:19Speaker 2: another horrible atrocity as far as I'm concerned. So at
- 8:25Speaker 2: this point, I'm tired of hearing Del Toro say that
- 8:28Speaker 2: I'm going to do this or I might do this.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Just do something. I'm sick of it. Just pick it,
- 8:33Speaker 2: put it out there. If it sucks, I don't care.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Just do something. It's getting old.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I think everybody's getting on that now. It's kind of, yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 3: there's been too much build-up and there's just been too
- 8:42Speaker 3: many changing.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Like, every week there's a new title of what he's
- 8:45Speaker 5: going to do next. And it's like, just pick something.
- 8:47Speaker 3: You know, go with it. It should already be out
- 8:49Speaker 3: by now. I understand The Hobbit messed things up a
- 8:52Speaker 3: little bit.
- 8:52Speaker 5: But still, really, something just needs to get out there before,
- 8:56Speaker 5: you know, people... I mean, it's been a long time
- 8:58Speaker 5: since he's had a movie out, really. Right.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Maybe he needs some Ritalin. He's got ADD or ADHD.
- 9:03Speaker 3: He could be.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Bouncing around too much.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Could be.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he needs to focus.
- 9:10Speaker 5: They do at least reference the fact that, yeah, 2003
- 9:13Speaker 5: Disney put this together in an attempt to kind of
- 9:16Speaker 5: latch on to that Pirates of the Caribbean money of, hey,
- 9:19Speaker 5: this is a theme park ride, and it made tons
- 9:22Speaker 5: of money, which actually they're saying worldwide. Yeah, the international
- 9:26Speaker 5: numbers on the Eddie Murphy version is $ 182 million. So really,
- 9:30Speaker 5: I guess it wasn't as big a flop if you
- 9:33Speaker 5: factor in the rest of the world.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I don't know who's seeing that movie, but I just
- 9:39Speaker 2: can't believe that. I say it's a lie, but Hollywood
- 9:45Speaker 2: wouldn't lie to me now, would they?
- 9:47Speaker 3: No, never.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I don't know. That was so bad, and I've heard
- 9:50Speaker 2: so many people say how bad it was. I just
- 9:53Speaker 2: can't see it. But, hey, that's beside the point.
- 9:55Speaker 5: See, I kind of agree with you. Pretty much anything
- 9:58Speaker 5: is going to pale in comparison.
- 10:00Speaker 3: To the old Haunted Mansion ride.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Yes.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Because that's the only time I ever went there. I
- 10:05Speaker 3: was really little.
- 10:05Speaker 5: But to this day, there are still images from that
- 10:08Speaker 5: ride that are burned into my brain from four years old.
- 10:13Speaker 5: I shouldn't even remember stuff, but that ride was so
- 10:15Speaker 5: awesome and so creepy to a little kid that I
- 10:18Speaker 5: still have.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Images of that.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Most of the features of the ride are still there,
- 10:23Speaker 2: but the fact that they added parts of the movie
- 10:26Speaker 2: in just detract from it and it just makes it
- 10:30Speaker 2: campy in a bad way so i i will say
- 10:33Speaker 2: this the pirates of the caribbean ride the updates to
- 10:36Speaker 2: it are fun and actually tie back i don't know
- 10:41Speaker 2: what that word noise was a tie back into the
- 10:44Speaker 2: film uh and which was already a tie back from
- 10:49Speaker 2: the ride but it it works but it just didn't
- 10:53Speaker 2: work with haunted mansion that was a bad movie.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yeah I have a microphone too. I'm going to make
- 11:02Speaker 3: funny noises. That's helpful. Thank you.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Well, I thought I would throw this one out there
- 11:17Speaker 5: to you specifically because I know we have a little
- 11:21Speaker 5: tie-in to it.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:22Speaker 5: So the big box office news right now concerns the
- 11:24Speaker 5: success of two movies. They're saying they're considering already doing
- 11:29Speaker 5: reboots of two of the current big movies right now,
- 11:31Speaker 5: one of which is Salt, which just opened this past weekend.
- 11:36Speaker 5: That seems a little, you know, jumping the gun, but
- 11:39Speaker 5: maybe that's just me.
- 11:40Speaker 2: And the other?
- 11:41Speaker 3: The other is Predators.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Predators.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So two movies.
- 11:44Speaker 2: That are currently in theaters. They're not going to be sequels,
- 11:47Speaker 2: but reboots.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Well, they're planning some version of it. I don't know.
- 11:51Speaker 5: They're talking sequels, but on Rodriguez, again, I won't go
- 11:55Speaker 5: too much into salt because I haven't even seen that one,
- 11:57Speaker 5: but the Rodriguez idea, he's saying that he wants to,
- 12:02Speaker 5: in sort of a continuation for Predators 2, which I
- 12:05Speaker 5: guess isn't actually the title, but that's what, you know,
- 12:08Speaker 5: they're referring to it here. is he wants to set
- 12:10Speaker 5: up a new storyline, new location, and a new world.
- 12:14Speaker 3: So, I don't know, isn't that already what you did
- 12:16Speaker 3: with this last one?
- 12:17Speaker 12: Sure.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I think it's just, hey, I can make more money.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Probably.
- 12:22Speaker 2: And I know we are beating a dead horse, but
- 12:26Speaker 2: guess what? So are they. So, you know, I haven't
- 12:31Speaker 2: seen Salt. I've heard it was good. But the fact
- 12:33Speaker 2: that some producers are already thinking about rebooting or even
- 12:38Speaker 2: sequel before i i may i may just not see
- 12:41Speaker 2: it in protest that's i'm saying it here first i'm
- 12:45Speaker 2: not going to see it in protest.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I think they're at least calling it a sequel.
- 12:48Speaker 2: At this point okay okay that's that's that's better but
- 12:52Speaker 2: it's still.
- 12:52Speaker 5: Kind of jumping the gun it is jumping have just
- 12:54Speaker 5: opened this weekend and they're already planning you know but
- 12:57Speaker 5: a lot of movies at this point do that because
- 12:58Speaker 5: they can start shooting them simultaneously before you know they
- 13:02Speaker 5: even get the first one done they're already working on
- 13:04Speaker 5: the next two you gotta have a trilogy.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I wish I could comment more, but I just.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go for it. Let's just make it. I
- 13:15Speaker 2: don't care.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Well, I mean, we both kind of like the Predators movie.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I did like the Predators movie. If it was done
- 13:23Speaker 2: the same way it was done this time and not cheapened,
- 13:27Speaker 2: if you can do that, sure. Why not? I'll pay
- 13:32Speaker 2: another eight bucks or nine bucks and go see it.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I don't mind. That's fine, but.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I just feel taken advantage of, I guess.
- 13:42Speaker 3: See, I've heard.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Some interesting ideas from people already throwing out there. And again,
- 13:45Speaker 5: this was all just random people who'd seen the first
- 13:47Speaker 5: one and were talking.
- 13:48Speaker 3: But there are some interesting things they could do with
- 13:51Speaker 3: the Predator storyline. And there's so much other story out
- 13:54Speaker 3: there waiting.
- 13:55Speaker 5: I mean, if you go into the comics, there's a
- 13:56Speaker 5: million different, you know, all these different issues.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Worth of stories out there.
- 14:00Speaker 14: Sure.
- 14:01Speaker 3: So, I mean, there's definitely material to draw from. There's
- 14:04Speaker 3: decent stories out there.
- 14:05Speaker 6: But.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I guess what I'm afraid of is the inevitable prequel
- 14:11Speaker 2: to the one we've just seen.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Which is kind of what I think they're.
- 14:15Speaker 8: Oh, great.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Well, it's like, I don't know. He says the next
- 14:17Speaker 5: step is... Like, he really doesn't even have any idea
- 14:20Speaker 5: at this point, but they're already talking. That's what worries me,
- 14:22Speaker 5: is they're already so fixed on making the sequel, but
- 14:25Speaker 5: they're not even concerned about what the story is.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Because they said now... The next step is to get
- 14:30Speaker 3: pitches from writers working off his basic idea.
- 14:33Speaker 11: Well, duh.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Isn't that how you make a movie? I mean, like,
- 14:35Speaker 3: why do they really need to.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Already greenlight this almost, but yet they have no basic
- 14:41Speaker 5: idea of what's going on.
- 14:43Speaker 3: And they're saying they don't even know if Rodriguez would
- 14:45Speaker 3: be in line to direct it. He didn't even direct
- 14:47Speaker 3: the last one. So, I mean, if he's just going
- 14:49Speaker 3: to hand it off to somebody else and, like... Then why?
- 14:51Speaker 3: Just back it a little bit, you know. Which, I mean,
- 14:53Speaker 3: he had a little more to do with this first one.
- 14:55Speaker 3: But still, it... It could be trouble. I don't know.
- 15:00Speaker 2: As long as no, you know, Marvel superheroes show up
- 15:04Speaker 2: in it and they're going to make another movie about
- 15:05Speaker 2: that one, that's fine. I just have this feeling that
- 15:08Speaker 2: it's all rolling into the same film and we're just
- 15:12Speaker 2: expected to every, you know, June 16th to come out
- 15:16Speaker 2: and pay for another one. That's what they want. Yeah. So,
- 15:21Speaker 2: and if it comes out with another Alien vs. Predator,
- 15:24Speaker 2: I might go across country and start smacking people.
- 15:26Speaker 3: So, that sounds like a plan to.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Me I think we could get a whole road trip
- 15:30Speaker 2: we're going to call it Smackathon 2011 right we could
- 15:36Speaker 2: call it Fanboys 2 the shit they should have done just.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Drive across beat the hell out of people.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Yeah drive across the country and beat the hell out
- 15:45Speaker 2: of people that are making horrible prequels and remakes.
- 15:50Speaker 5: I'd be on board for that too actually or at
- 15:52Speaker 5: least we should shoot the footage of it make it
- 15:54Speaker 5: a movie and then put that in so I'd be
- 15:56Speaker 5: up for that.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Okay good See if Del Toro can do it.
- 16:01Speaker 3: If he's available.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Or talk about doing it, yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 3: For a couple of years, he can talk about it.
- 16:04Speaker 6: Right.
- 16:06Speaker 4: All right.
- 16:06Speaker 3: I guess that will do for today.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:09Speaker 14: Thank you. Your closet's stuffed with the last year's blues.
- 16:33Speaker 12: But you know by summertime, your suicide's just the last
- 16:41Speaker 12: year's blues.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Do, do, do, do.
- 16:55Speaker 1: The crowds are thinning out at the snack bar, folks,
- 16:58Speaker 1: and there are still three minutes till showtime. You can
- 17:01Speaker 1: easily make it for something that'll just hit the spot.
- 17:04Speaker 10: How about it?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Don't waste a second of refreshment time. You'll find such
- 17:09Speaker 1: an appetizing assortment of refreshments at the snack bar, you
- 17:12Speaker 1: won't be able to decide what to ask for first.
- 17:15Speaker 1: All of your snack bar favorites are there, including fresh peanuts,
- 17:18Speaker 1: hot popcorn, and candy of all kinds. And believe us,
- 17:23Speaker 1: you've never eaten better hot dogs, crisper French fries, or
- 17:26Speaker 1: more delicious buttered popcorn.
- 17:32Speaker 15: Death Race 2000. In the year 2000, hit-and-run driving is
- 17:35Speaker 15: no longer a crime. It's the national sport. Death Race 2000,
- 17:39Speaker 15: starring David Carradine. He was built by the world's finest
- 17:42Speaker 15: surgeons to drive the fastest car ever designed, and nothing
- 17:45Speaker 15: can stop him now. Death Race 2000, a cross-country road wreck.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Rated R.
- 17:54Speaker 15: Under 17.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Not admitted without parent.
- 17:56Speaker 12: What will we find inside of your room? Notes in
- 18:06Speaker 12: the margins.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Records always spinning.
- 18:10Speaker 16: Clues you know you want.
- 18:16Speaker 17: It's time for another installment of The Art of Being
- 18:20Speaker 17: a Movie Geek.
- 18:21Speaker 3: So I guess you're okay with being a movie geek?
- 18:23Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 18:24Speaker 5: See, I don't even assume that that's a name at
- 18:28Speaker 5: this point. To me, it's just a badge of honor.
- 18:31Speaker 3: That's right. A title, a moniker.
- 18:33Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's accurate for most people, and some people
- 18:36Speaker 5: still get upset about it.
- 18:37Speaker 3: It's kind of sad.
- 18:37Speaker 7: Movies are like... It's almost like a form of communication now.
- 18:42Speaker 7: You almost have to speak movie geek.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Yeah, you really do.
- 18:46Speaker 7: If you don't really speak movie geek, you're really going
- 18:48Speaker 7: to have a hard time communicating with a lot of
- 18:50Speaker 7: people who are pop culture gurus.
- 18:52Speaker 5: I mean, it has become almost a whole level of
- 18:55Speaker 5: society now that it is this almost another language that
- 18:59Speaker 5: takes place in pop culture that it's kind of cool. Okay,
- 19:02Speaker 5: so we are here with Chris Kukta. You are an
- 19:05Speaker 5: artist of many sorts, I'm assuming.
- 19:07Speaker 11: Yes.
- 19:08Speaker 7: Yeah, I started out as a portrait artist, and I
- 19:11Speaker 7: went into comics. And then I left comics and started teaching.
- 19:15Speaker 7: I opened an Atelier school, which is classical fine art
- 19:18Speaker 7: drawing and painting.
- 19:19Speaker 9: And then my wife one day got me back into.
- 19:25Speaker 3: She.
- 19:25Speaker 7: Got me into painting scenes from horror movies because I've
- 19:28Speaker 7: always been a horror movie buff.
- 19:30Speaker 3: And she, for.
- 19:32Speaker 9: Valentine's Day, got.
- 19:34Speaker 7: Got me a booth at Fangoria, and I did really
- 19:37Speaker 7: well there, and it kind of caught on since, and
- 19:39Speaker 7: I've been doing it for about three years now. I've
- 19:41Speaker 7: been painting horror movie stuff, shots from movies. I've been
- 19:45Speaker 7: doing movie posters, concept design.
- 19:49Speaker 9: I still do comics every now and again.
- 19:54Speaker 3: All that sort of stuff. And I teach. How did
- 19:57Speaker 3: you initially get into art in general? Was it something
- 20:00Speaker 3: you started really early?
- 20:01Speaker 7: I did start really, really early. I've always been drawing
- 20:04Speaker 7: ever since I was about five years old. I think
- 20:06Speaker 7: my grandmother bought me a bunch of old, famous monsters
- 20:11Speaker 7: of film land and creepy comics that I use bookshop,
- 20:13Speaker 7: and she gave them to me, and it really kind
- 20:15Speaker 7: of scarred me ever since.
- 20:17Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 9: That's kind of everybody's story, but it is truly my story.
- 20:21Speaker 7: You know, guys like Frazetta and Basil Gogos and Bernie Reitz,
- 20:25Speaker 7: and those people leave an indelible impression, and not just
- 20:28Speaker 7: on my mind, it seems to be on the mind
- 20:30Speaker 7: of the consciousness.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 20:33Speaker 5: So then getting into art, is it something you did
- 20:36Speaker 5: a lot of classical training for?
- 20:38Speaker 3: I did.
- 20:39Speaker 7: I went to American Academy of Art in Chicago where
- 20:42Speaker 7: I learned basically classical oil painting, classical drawing, and later
- 20:46Speaker 7: on after that I studied Atelier method, which is French
- 20:49Speaker 7: academic period, and basically learned portraiture, learned anatomy, learned value
- 20:56Speaker 7: and color and color theory and composition, all that stuff.
- 21:00Speaker 3: And it was important.
- 21:01Speaker 7: For me, I had ability, but I didn't have know-how.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 9: So that really filled in a lot of gaps. And
- 21:10Speaker 9: I see a lot of.
- 21:11Speaker 7: Guys out there that have incredible ability.
- 21:14Speaker 3: They can render.
- 21:15Speaker 9: They just don't have the know-how.
- 21:18Speaker 7: And it's kind of been one of my life's missions
- 21:21Speaker 7: to help teach.
- 21:23Speaker 9: I've learned a lot from teaching.
- 21:25Speaker 3: It's a great experience.
- 21:26Speaker 5: And then is it something you branch out and do
- 21:29Speaker 5: things on horror in different geek areas.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Or is it all pretty much just focused on horror?
- 21:36Speaker 7: No, I'd like to do a lot of sci-fi stuff,
- 21:39Speaker 7: and I'd like to get back into comics, too. I'd
- 21:41Speaker 7: like to do portraits of my favorite comic book characters.
- 21:46Speaker 7: I definitely want to do a group of sci-fi stuff.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I want to do some Star Wars stuff.
- 21:49Speaker 3: That's really coming up soon.
- 21:51Speaker 7: I've got a portrait of Peter Cushing and his Grand
- 21:53Speaker 7: Moff Tark, and I figured that would.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Be like the gateway drug.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Definitely, yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 7: Maybe do Christopher Lee as Count Dooku or something, you know?
- 22:02Speaker 3: Fighting each other.
- 22:03Speaker 7: Then, yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 9: Then break into.
- 22:06Speaker 7: That'll push me, you know, into the next thing. Full-on
- 22:12Speaker 7: Yoda and, you know, Battlestar Galactica, Cylons.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a whole group out there for that, too.
- 22:19Speaker 3: So it's good, yeah.
- 22:21Speaker 9: You know, I'm weird. Everybody's like, oh, you're the horror guy. Well,
- 22:24Speaker 9: not really, though, because I love all of that other stuff, too.
- 22:28Speaker 4: How do you.
- 22:29Speaker 7: People would always ask me questions like that. Are you
- 22:32Speaker 7: Star Trek or Star Wars?
- 22:34Speaker 3: How about both? I like Shatner.
- 22:40Speaker 5: There's plenty of good stuff out there. Let's just find
- 22:42Speaker 5: the good stuff and worry about that.
- 22:45Speaker 4: I love it.
- 22:46Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 22:46Speaker 9: I think that the enticing.
- 22:48Speaker 7: I think all those other people do, too, pretty much,
- 22:51Speaker 7: except the argument is so much, you know, that's so
- 22:54Speaker 7: much part of their culture.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Again, it's become a very geek-oriented thing to just argue
- 22:58Speaker 5: about things back and forth, especially since the Internet has
- 23:01Speaker 5: come around.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely.
- 23:03Speaker 7: That's definitely brought people together and allowed people like me
- 23:07Speaker 7: to get.
- 23:07Speaker 9: A voice, to be able to become recognized. And that's
- 23:11Speaker 9: cool because you put.
- 23:13Speaker 4: You put a.
- 23:14Speaker 7: Large amount of ability into the hands of the artist,
- 23:19Speaker 7: and you will see creative things happen. As this technology
- 23:24Speaker 7: becomes easier and easier to use, you're going to see people...
- 23:27Speaker 7: do amazing things. And I'm excited about that. Even though
- 23:31Speaker 7: my stuff is very traditional, man, I'm all about some Photoshop.
- 23:35Speaker 9: I'm all about Maya. I think that stuff's great.
- 23:38Speaker 7: I think it ultimately gives people with 2D art experience credit,
- 23:44Speaker 7: but it also gives people with 3D art credit. I
- 23:48Speaker 7: think you can teach people how to push buttons really easy,
- 23:52Speaker 7: but they really still have to have good old-fashioned art know-how.
- 23:57Speaker 7: You have to know what composition is if you want
- 23:59Speaker 7: to compose a shot. It doesn't make any difference. So
- 24:04Speaker 7: really it all does boil down to classical training, there's
- 24:07Speaker 7: still never going to be any easier way to teach
- 24:10Speaker 7: somebody than to slap down a piece of paper and
- 24:13Speaker 7: give them a pencil and show them how to do it.
- 24:16Speaker 7: Photoshop isn't going to heal that. It's going to help
- 24:21Speaker 7: mask some of your shortcomings, but in the long run,
- 24:24Speaker 7: eventually you're going to want to grow beyond that if
- 24:27Speaker 7: you're going to be anybody anyway.
- 24:29Speaker 3: If you're going to take it seriously, you've got to
- 24:31Speaker 3: have some form of the basics.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I mean....
- 24:36Speaker 7: I think that people, too, as they become more digital savvy,
- 24:39Speaker 7: they can still see originality, you know?
- 24:41Speaker 9: They're starting to become like, oh, yeah, that's photo manipulated.
- 24:45Speaker 7: That's a shot that, like, you know, that's why, in
- 24:49Speaker 7: a way, I still.
- 24:50Speaker 18: Do stick to the traditional media because it definitely oozes
- 24:56Speaker 18: out who you are a lot easier than Photoshop does
- 24:59Speaker 18: because of the way the marks are made.
- 25:02Speaker 3: So, yeah. And you said most of what you've been
- 25:04Speaker 3: doing is oil-based?
- 25:06Speaker 7: Yes, all of it's oil-based. I do all oil on
- 25:09Speaker 7: Mace Knight. All the paintings are oil on Mace Knight.
- 25:13Speaker 7: For a couple reasons. Because it's easy.
- 25:15Speaker 9: To ship, it's easy to maintain, it's archival. It's just
- 25:21Speaker 9: a good medium.
- 25:23Speaker 7: I've learned to use it really well. And typically painting
- 25:25Speaker 7: on board is really hard for a lot of artists.
- 25:28Speaker 7: I don't know, I just kind of took to it.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Very cool.
- 25:31Speaker 3: I guess tell people where to find you out there,
- 25:33Speaker 3: I'm assuming on the Internet. Well, you can.
- 25:35Speaker 7: Friend me on Facebook, but I just now have my
- 25:38Speaker 7: own website. It's www.horrorartist.com, all one word. And I have
- 25:44Speaker 7: a WordPress blog and MySpace page and all of the accompanying...
- 25:53Speaker 7: facebook deviant art account that i've been on for years
- 25:56Speaker 7: that was like my first foray into the into the
- 26:00Speaker 7: digital realm.
- 26:01Speaker 5: It's amazing how big that was before anybody knew about
- 26:03Speaker 5: these other social networking.
- 26:05Speaker 7: Things well you know they did a couple of things
- 26:07Speaker 7: right really early yeah and um i think it needs
- 26:11Speaker 7: a little bit of spit and polish now um they
- 26:14Speaker 7: need to do something so that it can become a
- 26:16Speaker 7: little bit more uh commercial you know so that so
- 26:20Speaker 7: that guys can use it to get jobs you know
- 26:23Speaker 7: So that it isn't just fan-based now.
- 26:25Speaker 5: It really is just art for artists. I mean, I
- 26:27Speaker 5: don't know anybody who's not into art that goes there.
- 26:30Speaker 5: It's just for other artists, almost more than anything.
- 26:33Speaker 7: It's a great place to find good art. It's just
- 26:35Speaker 7: that I think once they reach a certain level, they
- 26:39Speaker 7: don't maintain it. So it becomes like everybody's entry sketchbook.
- 26:44Speaker 7: I want to see it go beyond that.
- 26:46Speaker 5: It would, yeah, it would be cool to continue on
- 26:48Speaker 5: with successful artists and not just amateurs, yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 9: They're trying, you know, they're trying.
- 26:52Speaker 7: But I think ultimately they have to do something that
- 26:56Speaker 7: can help people.
- 26:56Speaker 9: Get a job, you know.
- 26:58Speaker 7: That's what they really need to, they need to have
- 27:00Speaker 7: another level where you can focus more on.
- 27:05Speaker 9: Your portfolio, your commercial side. And they don't have anything
- 27:09Speaker 9: for that right now.
- 27:10Speaker 3: But, if nothing else, yeah, everybody's got their own. So
- 27:13Speaker 3: just go to your website. Yeah, that's right.
- 27:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:16Speaker 3: All right, I think that is good. Thanks for talking
- 27:18Speaker 3: to us today, and go check out your website. Thank you.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Take care.
- 27:37Speaker 14: Remember the time I couldn't speak? Everybody heard the bending
- 27:44Speaker 14: and dropping came and crashed down. Then that was the
- 27:52Speaker 14: time I couldn't walk. Everybody laughed so entertaining was this breakdown.
- 28:02Speaker 19: Dear Mr.
- 28:02Speaker 17: Vernon, we accept the fact that we have to sacrifice
- 28:05Speaker 17: a few hours a week to podcast about whatever you
- 28:07Speaker 17: find important. But we think you're crazy asking us to
- 28:10Speaker 17: write an essay telling you who we think we are.
- 28:12Speaker 17: You see us as you want to see us, in
- 28:14Speaker 17: the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. But what
- 28:18Speaker 17: we found out is that each of us is a
- 28:19Speaker 17: podcast about other podcasts.
- 28:21Speaker 2: A podcast about television.
- 28:23Speaker 4: A podcast about films.
- 28:25Speaker 2: A podcast about music.
- 28:27Speaker 3: A podcast about books.
- 28:28Speaker 17: Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Podcast Podcast.
- 28:34Speaker 19: The Podcast Podcast is your one-stop source for all the
- 28:36Speaker 19: podcasts on the internet. Each week we have very special

- 28:46Speaker 19: for us in the iTunes store by looking for me,
- 28:49Speaker 19: Fozzie Bear. That's F-O-Z-Z-I-E-B-A-R-E.
- 28:54Speaker 14: Forget about me.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Don't, don't, don't, don't.
- 29:05Speaker 12: Turn and face the wall. I'm only training.
- 29:15Speaker 11: I All right, we are back on day two here.
- 29:33Speaker 3: And now we have moved into new territory. Now we
- 29:36Speaker 3: have Misty with us.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Yay for Misty.
- 29:39Speaker 11: And Jay.
- 29:41Speaker 6: Hey.
- 29:41Speaker 14: Alright.
- 29:43Speaker 3: We are, once again, hanging out at our table. And
- 29:46Speaker 3: what's your take on it so far, Misty? Oh, good lord.
- 29:49Speaker 4: The people here are just atrocious.
- 29:50Speaker 6: I've seen chicks wear stuff that chicks should never wear.
- 29:54Speaker 7: The girls of Nightmare, Q and A session. The girls
- 29:56Speaker 7: of Nightmare, Q and A session is fixing the story.
- 29:59Speaker 11: Okay, now try again.
- 30:01Speaker 6: I can't decide which is my favorite so far. The
- 30:02Speaker 6: guy with the Dave Bustain bangs or the guy with
- 30:04Speaker 6: the golden mullet.
- 30:06Speaker 4: It's kind of a toss-up right there.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Mustang bangs are definitely, they're pretty signature.
- 30:11Speaker 5: He's definitely got the look. He's definitely got the look
- 30:19Speaker 5: down there. Different color, but he's got the bangs going.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Now the other one, yeah, the curly mullet.
- 30:25Speaker 17: Am I the only one worried about the guy carrying
- 30:30Speaker 17: the baseball bat around?
- 30:31Speaker 4: I guess that's not a good idea.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Maybe that's just me.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Um.
- 30:34Speaker 3: In here, it's pretty normal, actually. Go find that guy.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Take him out. Take him down.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Do your thing.
- 30:48Speaker 11: Try again.
- 30:49Speaker 6: I'm still trying to figure out what this thing across
- 30:51Speaker 6: from us is. I think it's a chick, but it
- 30:53Speaker 6: might have one time been a dude. I'm not really sure.
- 30:56Speaker 6: It's got more plastic parts than most Mattel Barbies do.
- 30:59Speaker 4: It's not right.
- 31:01Speaker 3: I think it's impolite to ask him, though.
- 31:03Speaker 4: It's a PC. You can't ask him. You're just going
- 31:06Speaker 4: to guess.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Did you used to be a man? I don't know
- 31:09Speaker 3: if that would go over very well.
- 31:10Speaker 4: You're a big blonde bouffant, keeping me from seeing the
- 31:12Speaker 4: Addams after.
- 31:13Speaker 3: That's strategy right there. That's what that is.
- 31:17Speaker 6: And then a jackass across from us said, last year
- 31:20Speaker 6: sold me my liar copy of Big Wolf on Campus.
- 31:24Speaker 6: It was not a complete series, motherfucker. It was missing episodes,
- 31:27Speaker 6: you fucker. But I'm not bitter.
- 31:29Speaker 3: No, not at all.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Should have brought it and.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Beat him with it.
- 31:33Speaker 3: I expected you to, actually, so we'll see.
- 31:35Speaker 6: I already lost the original cover, and I figured you
- 31:38Speaker 6: probably wouldn't accept the.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Beating if you didn't have the original cover for it.
- 31:41Speaker 3: I think you should beat him with the... fake cover
- 31:44Speaker 3: that you print off the internet.
- 31:45Speaker 4: My cover that I made was way better, thank you
- 31:47Speaker 4: very much.
- 31:48Speaker 6: I don't know how to make me a bootleg DVD cover.
- 31:51Speaker 5: Well, obviously this guy does not, which is a shame
- 31:54Speaker 5: since he's selling.
- 31:56Speaker 4: Overpriced, too. I mean, son of a bitch. And he
- 32:00Speaker 4: has stupid hair.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Seems to be a theme of this week.
- 32:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I saw the, uh, celebrity, was it Rochelle Davis?
- 32:10Speaker 6: The Sarah?
- 32:11Speaker 4: She seems fairly nice and all.
- 32:14Speaker 6: She just needs to invest in a good conditioner or
- 32:16Speaker 6: a nice cream rinse because that shit's looking a little dry.
- 32:20Speaker 3: I told her you should just mention that. hand or
- 32:23Speaker 3: a bottle like small be like here i brought this
- 32:25Speaker 3: for you.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Paint that shit yeah so far.
- 32:31Speaker 6: I've not spent any money which i'm pretty proud of
- 32:33Speaker 6: myself and kind of disappointed at.
- 32:34Speaker 4: The same time but i'll save it all.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Up for next month when we're going to chicago keep
- 32:39Speaker 3: yourself under control.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Wow would you like to elaborate on.
- 32:47Speaker 4: That I'm not sure if we should.
- 32:49Speaker 6: I mean, chicks with short skirts walking by are being
- 32:52Speaker 6: an industrial fan right here.
- 32:54Speaker 4: It's all right.
- 32:55Speaker 6: I remember when the guy with the big gut walked by,
- 32:57Speaker 6: and we saw the brief glimpse of his undercarriage, and
- 32:59Speaker 6: it was not pleasant.
- 33:01Speaker 4: That's what it was. Not at all.
- 33:03Speaker 5: It's bad enough when the shirt doesn't cover the gut,
- 33:05Speaker 5: but yeah, when you didn't have a fan to highlight
- 33:08Speaker 5: that action, that's, yeah, that's not what.
- 33:10Speaker 8: We're looking for.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Nightmares shall ensue.
- 33:12Speaker 3: This is a horror festival now.
- 33:14Speaker 4: It's the most frightening thing I've seen thus far.
- 33:17Speaker 10: I agree.
- 33:18Speaker 6: Definitely scarier than any of the Michael Myers or Freddy's
- 33:22Speaker 6: or Jason's we've seen wandering around.
- 33:24Speaker 4: The one Freddy I've seen wandering around, she's pretty cute.
- 33:26Speaker 5: Is this the probably much older but seemingly 14-year-old Asian girl?
- 33:31Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 33:32Speaker 3: She is pretty damn adorable, I'll give you that.
- 33:35Speaker 6: The normal that Freddy can get, I guess.
- 33:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:38Speaker 5: That's my favorite is she's not overly trying. She's just
- 33:42Speaker 5: got the sweater and the glove and a hat. And
- 33:44Speaker 5: then she's cute. And that's really all you need. Especially
- 33:48Speaker 5: if you're a cute chick. That's, you know, that's really
- 33:49Speaker 5: all you need for a costume.
- 33:50Speaker 6: But then you got bruised legs behind us.
- 33:52Speaker 4: That's just not allowed. I'm telling you. Shoe leader outfit
- 33:55Speaker 4: or no. Those fucking scars. That's not working.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I'm not sure what the strategy is on her approach
- 34:02Speaker 3: to this, but.
- 34:02Speaker 6: I don't realize she's a horror author, so she's not
- 34:04Speaker 6: really banking on being cute, so I'm not really sure what.
- 34:07Speaker 4: The point.
- 34:10Speaker 6: Is.
- 34:10Speaker 3: I don't get it. I'm staying out of it.
- 34:12Speaker 6: I guess if they realize there's that much horror on
- 34:14Speaker 6: the outside of your body, that something can come out
- 34:15Speaker 6: of your mind must be astounding.
- 34:18Speaker 3: You might be onto something, actually.
- 34:21Speaker 5: Oh, if I remember when we ran into her before,
- 34:23Speaker 5: she was Roger's favorite, so we're going to have to.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Wow, that.
- 34:26Speaker 4: One needs data sandwiching.
- 34:27Speaker 6: Yikes. She gets here around the table.
- 34:30Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Please, please pull that down. Thank you.
- 34:33Speaker 6: And then Corey's not sure if he's offended or not.
- 34:35Speaker 6: He's already got a mistake in for Feldman, and that's
- 34:37Speaker 6: just wrong. I mean, seriously, wrong.
- 34:41Speaker 3: I think you should have smacked that person.
- 34:42Speaker 4: There was about to be a beatdown.
- 34:43Speaker 6: His girlfriend, who correctly identified him, was willing to hold
- 34:46Speaker 6: him down for me while I beat That.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Seems fitting, really. That seems fine. I don't know.
- 34:52Speaker 4: They gave me a Tootsie Roll, so it was okay.
- 34:54Speaker 3: You can be bribed with candy. That's true.
- 34:57Speaker 4: I like Tootsie Rolls. They're awesome.
- 35:00Speaker 6: If it's a shitty candy, they would have beat me
- 35:01Speaker 6: on it and it would have been okay. But I
- 35:02Speaker 6: like Tootsie Rolls. They'd hand me like a peppermint twist thing.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Oh, fuck that.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Cheap bastards. At least give me a tootsie.
- 35:09Speaker 4: It's one of the long ones, too. It's about that long.
- 35:12Speaker 3: Not even the midgies. It was not a midgie.
- 35:13Speaker 6: It was not the fun size, not the snack size.
- 35:15Speaker 6: It was one of the ones about game on. I'm
- 35:17Speaker 6: motioning with my hands, but that does really good for
- 35:19Speaker 6: the radio. So, a podcast or whatever the fuck we're doing.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Ooh, the guy in the western shirt's fantastic.
- 35:27Speaker 6: Sleeveless western shirt on a guy I'm approximately guessing around 50.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd say 50, yeah.
- 35:36Speaker 6: Or the unfortunate guy with no ass. Whatever happened to him?
- 35:40Speaker 3: Yeah, we forgot to go into that one. I do
- 35:42Speaker 3: feel bad for that guy.
- 35:43Speaker 4: He just had waist and legs. There was no in-between.
- 35:45Speaker 4: There was no, like, no ass.
- 35:47Speaker 2: There was.
- 35:47Speaker 4: It wasn't even, like, concave. There was no space for
- 35:50Speaker 4: an ass to be. How does he poop? The poor
- 35:53Speaker 4: crackless bastard.
- 35:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I decided we need to start a foundation of,
- 35:58Speaker 5: you know... The Assless Foundation needs your help today.
- 36:01Speaker 4: That's bad enough.
- 36:01Speaker 6: They already came back and gave us flyers for depression
- 36:04Speaker 6: and suicide.
- 36:06Speaker 3: They knew which table to come to.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Apparently we look sad and self-injuring. I'm like, no, I'm
- 36:10Speaker 4: not going to injure anybody.
- 36:11Speaker 3: It ain't going to be me. Starts with everybody else.
- 36:14Speaker 6: It's going to be that fucker across the aisle who's
- 36:15Speaker 6: telling me I'm a fucking big wolf who wasn't complete. Yep.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Taking his ass out first.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I agree.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Can I have one of your ones?
- 36:23Speaker 4: Nobody wants Icarus.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Nobody wants Icarus. Take a fire.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Take a fire, you bastard.
- 36:31Speaker 3: I'm shoving down your goddamn face. Oh, wait, that's probably
- 36:34Speaker 3: not the best way to do it.
- 36:36Speaker 4: I don't know, that might get their attention, at least.
- 36:38Speaker 3: I mean, we have a giant glowing Greedo holding a knife.
- 36:42Speaker 3: If that doesn't get your attention....
- 36:45Speaker 4: Nobody's going to notice us now with this big, big,
- 36:47Speaker 4: long bench.
- 36:48Speaker 1: In front of us.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Our skinny friend. They sucked all the fat out of
- 36:53Speaker 4: the skinny girl and injected it in that other girl's ass.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Or face.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Hey, boyfriend got fries.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Uh-oh, food.
- 36:59Speaker 4: I got muskets. Yay, fries! Oh, these are good. Yay
- 37:05Speaker 4: for bright night food. Scary fries.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Oh, spooky.
- 37:10Speaker 4: I wouldn't tell on this.
- 37:12Speaker 15: Girl if they texted this girl's dress code.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Ah, she's crooked.
- 37:21Speaker 3: No fair.
- 37:22Speaker 4: She is like 14, right?
- 37:23Speaker 5: So we probably shouldn't be anticipating this 14-year-old skirt line-up,
- 37:30Speaker 5: but we're pretty.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Sick, so what can you do? Take pictures.
- 37:34Speaker 3: I think you're on as well.
- 38:02Speaker 8: The man they are burying in a subterranean world of
- 38:05Speaker 8: horror is a victim of the oblong box. Now, for
- 38:12Speaker 8: the first time, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee star in
- 38:16Speaker 8: Edgar Allan Poe's tale of the living dead, The Oblong Box.
- 38:21Speaker 8: The Oblong Box in color from American International is rated M.
- 38:25Speaker 10: Hi, this is Tom Adkins or Detective Ray Cameron. You're
- 38:39Speaker 10: listening to Movie Meltdown throw me baby I'm.
- 38:43Speaker 12: I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm.
- 39:10Speaker 5: See your eyes through you anyhow.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Came back from my interview with Roger Corman. Awesome. That's
- 39:25Speaker 3: all I have to say. I'm just going to roll
- 39:27Speaker 3: into it, because what else is there to say? Roger Corman. Legend.
- 39:31Speaker 6: Awesome.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Alright, we're here with Roger Corman.
- 39:36Speaker 5: You were born in Detroit. Did you have an interest
- 39:39Speaker 5: in film right off the bat, like as a child?
- 39:42Speaker 20: As a child, I used to go to see the
- 39:44Speaker 20: Saturday matinees with my friends. but I didn't become seriously
- 39:49Speaker 20: interested in films until I was at Stanford, Stanford University.
- 39:53Speaker 20: I was writing for the newspaper, and I started becoming
- 39:58Speaker 20: a critic.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I became a critic.
- 40:00Speaker 20: And started writing reviews for the Stanford Daily, and that's
- 40:05Speaker 20: when I started to take films more seriously.
- 40:07Speaker 5: That's what I was wondering, yeah, because you had a
- 40:09Speaker 5: degree in industrial engineering.
- 40:11Speaker 3: I didn't know how that led to film directing.
- 40:13Speaker 20: Didn't lead to film directing in any way. It might
- 40:17Speaker 20: have helped a little bit, though, in planning and pre-production.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Orchestrate all your projects.
- 40:24Speaker 5: Let's see, when you got into directing, what was your
- 40:27Speaker 5: process as far as looking for a new project?
- 40:30Speaker 20: I would generally start with the idea and then develop
- 40:34Speaker 20: a screenplay from the idea.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Yeah, you always had really good plots.
- 40:38Speaker 5: It seemed like you actually put a lot of work
- 40:40Speaker 5: into story, even working on the sensational angle, but it
- 40:43Speaker 5: seemed like you always focused on story more than most.
- 40:46Speaker 20: Yes, to me the story is the starting point. Everything
- 40:50Speaker 20: stems from the story.
- 40:51Speaker 5: You'd also been known for years for doing all the
- 40:53Speaker 5: adaptations of Poe's work.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Had you been a fan of Edgar Allan Poe early on?
- 40:58Speaker 20: Yes, I had read The Fall of the House of
- 41:01Speaker 20: Usher in an English class in high school. and I
- 41:06Speaker 20: really loved that story, and I got the complete works
- 41:10Speaker 20: of Poe, and I read everything he ever wrote, and
- 41:14Speaker 20: when I finally had the chance, I did The Fall
- 41:16Speaker 20: of the House of Usher.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Was there something that drew you to all of his projects,
- 41:20Speaker 3: or was it just.
- 41:22Speaker 20: I think it was the complexity of his stories. I
- 41:25Speaker 20: think he was very early in understanding the conscious and
- 41:30Speaker 20: unconscious mind.
- 41:32Speaker 3: And writing.
- 41:34Speaker 20: on a surface level with the conscious mind, and beneath
- 41:38Speaker 20: the surface with the unconscious mind.
- 41:40Speaker 3: You develop so many types of literature, it's impressive.
- 41:43Speaker 6: Right.
- 41:44Speaker 5: You picked some of the greatest actors and directors and writers.
- 41:47Speaker 5: Did you just feel like you had a knack for
- 41:49Speaker 5: finding that, or is it something that you had a
- 41:51Speaker 5: whole structure set up as to bringing in new talent?
- 41:55Speaker 20: It was a combination of both. I felt having been
- 41:58Speaker 20: a director, I was better equipped to to judge new
- 42:03Speaker 20: directors and producers, other producers who had not been directors,
- 42:07Speaker 20: but also we had a structure at our studio where
- 42:11Speaker 20: people would start and work up and eventually become a director.
- 42:16Speaker 5: When you switched over from director to focusing more on producing,
- 42:20Speaker 5: was that an artistic decision or was it more just
- 42:23Speaker 5: a business? Was it more work to do and found
- 42:26Speaker 5: more creative in the producing?
- 42:29Speaker 20: I had directed I think 58, 59, almost 60 pictures
- 42:35Speaker 20: in about 13, 14 years, and I was just tired.
- 42:39Speaker 20: I switched from directing to producing, and I thought I
- 42:43Speaker 20: will do this for a year and then go back
- 42:45Speaker 20: to directing, but I started my own company, New World,
- 42:49Speaker 20: and it became successful right from the beginning, and I
- 42:52Speaker 20: just stayed with producing.
- 42:54Speaker 5: And then over the years, your name kind of became
- 42:56Speaker 5: a brand in Hollywood. What was it that you set
- 42:59Speaker 5: out to bring to a movie that was.
- 43:00Speaker 3: A Roger Corman movie?
- 43:03Speaker 20: We felt that, and I still do feel, every film
- 43:08Speaker 20: should have an element of excitement within the film. And also,
- 43:13Speaker 20: I tried to work in a complex way, so the
- 43:17Speaker 20: stories were not simple stories. There was one story, just
- 43:20Speaker 20: as with Poe, on the surface... There was another beneath
- 43:24Speaker 20: the surface or beneath the text story. I think it
- 43:29Speaker 20: was a combination of those things that made the company successful.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Were there new projects you wanted to tell people about
- 43:35Speaker 3: that you're working on?
- 43:37Speaker 20: I've got a picture called Sharktopus, which comes out September
- 43:41Speaker 20: 25th on the SyFy channel. And then I've got a
- 43:45Speaker 20: picture called Stealing Las Vegas that we're just finished shooting
- 43:50Speaker 20: and we're beginning the editing process. That will come out
- 43:52Speaker 20: sometime in 2011. That's very cool.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Thank you very much for talking to us today, sir.
- 43:58Speaker 3: Thanks again.
- 44:00Speaker 12: I'm taking it slow Feeding.
- 44:03Speaker 4: My flame.
- 44:06Speaker 12: Shoving the cards of your game And just in time
- 44:16Speaker 12: In the right.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Place One minute left to top off the evening with
- 44:26Speaker 1: a treat from our snack bar. Still time if you hurry.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Last call for refreshments, folks. Go right this second to
- 44:33Speaker 1: get something good to eat and drink to enjoy now
- 44:35Speaker 1: or during the rest of the show.

- 45:07Speaker 6: So so.
- 45:28Speaker 3: Alright, we're back. We have to come back. Because we
- 45:31Speaker 3: have to, you know, continue our series.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Keep you up to date on the bathroom activities.
- 45:36Speaker 5: Yeah, as we found out last week, all our interesting
- 45:39Speaker 5: stories take place in the bathroom.
- 45:40Speaker 3: What story was there last week?
- 45:42Speaker 6: You were for me hanging out watching a plastic movie.
- 45:45Speaker 4: Oh my god, that was so much fun. Anyways, I
- 45:47Speaker 4: had to go to the bathroom here, and of course
- 45:49Speaker 4: there was this crazy ass lady in there. Bat shit crazy.
- 45:51Speaker 4: She had to ask me what time it was.
- 45:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 45:54Speaker 4: I don't know why. She's currently at a crazy time.
- 45:56Speaker 3: Time to go potty.
- 45:58Speaker 4: She had plenty of time, though, according to her.
- 46:00Speaker 6: Anyway, she goes to the bathroom and she realizes, unlike me,
- 46:04Speaker 6: she didn't check first to make sure each stall had
- 46:06Speaker 6: toilet paper.
- 46:07Speaker 3: What a novice toilet user.
- 46:10Speaker 4: I checked like five or six stalls. Two of them
- 46:12Speaker 4: didn't log. Two of them didn't have toilet paper. I
- 46:15Speaker 4: did all my research.
- 46:16Speaker 6: I don't commit to a bathroom until I know that
- 46:17Speaker 6: I got all my bases covered. Anyway, so she's wearing socks.
- 46:21Speaker 6: She's not wearing no shoes because apparently you're too crazy
- 46:24Speaker 6: to wear shoes.
- 46:24Speaker 4: I'm telling you.
- 46:26Speaker 3: You can't take my shoes.
- 46:26Speaker 4: I'm telling you.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Fuck shoes, man.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Anyway, so she's in there. She's in with another girl
- 46:31Speaker 4: who already complimented me on my hair, so she's okay
- 46:33Speaker 4: by me. But then she's like my outfit, too, so
- 46:36Speaker 4: I can't be too crazy.
- 46:37Speaker 6: But anyway, she goes to the bathroom and she realized
- 46:39Speaker 6: she ain't got no toilet paper.
- 46:41Speaker 4: She's yelling at the girl like four stalls down. I
- 46:43Speaker 4: ain't got no toilet paper. Bring me some toilet paper.
- 46:46Speaker 4: And the girl's like, are you already going? I'm going.
- 46:47Speaker 4: She's like, oh, I'll just use my sock. I'm like, really?
- 46:53Speaker 4: So I was the good Samaritan.
- 46:54Speaker 6: I went and got the crazy bitch some toilet paper
- 46:56Speaker 6: because nobody wants fucking pee socks walking around the crazy house.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Would she have put it back on afterwards?
- 47:03Speaker 4: But she ain't gonna walk barefoot.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Jesus.
- 47:06Speaker 3: I'm assuming she only peed. Yeah, see, I wasn't assuming that.
- 47:10Speaker 3: That's why I was really worried.
- 47:11Speaker 4: She wasn't in there very long. Aw, a Corona Owl tattoo.
- 47:14Speaker 4: But anyways, yeah, crazy. Fuck it's crazy.
- 47:16Speaker 15: He gets in the bathroom.
- 47:18Speaker 2: All you Texans who saw Massacre 4 junk really fast.
- 47:23Speaker 4: Look at the sweater vest. Holy shit, I've seen some
- 47:25Speaker 4: weird shit in here, but there's a goddamn sweater vest.
- 47:28Speaker 3: They're so cool. This is a very Jim Spurs sale.
- 47:32Speaker 4: I have my Facebook page.
- 47:33Speaker 3: For my socks.
- 47:34Speaker 4: It is all of them.
- 47:37Speaker 5: Yeah, would you like to go into that as your
- 47:38Speaker 5: geek activity for the week?
- 47:40Speaker 4: I have 13 pictures of my socks.
- 47:43Speaker 5: If we've not mentioned it before, Misty has an inordinate
- 47:46Speaker 5: amount of socks.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Imelda Marcos.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Yes, the Imelda Marcos of socks, we've decided.
- 47:52Speaker 4: I took pictures of 153 hair just last night, and
- 47:56Speaker 4: that's not even a third of them.
- 47:58Speaker 5: And I thought she was just, like, laying them out
- 48:00Speaker 5: on the floor and taking a picture.
- 48:02Speaker 3: Hell no, that's lazy. No, she's putting each and every
- 48:04Speaker 3: pair on and taking pictures.
- 48:07Speaker 4: Let me tell you, I fucking hate toe socks.
- 48:08Speaker 6: Whoever bought me toe socks should fucking hurt.
- 48:13Speaker 5: I still am thoroughly convinced you can make money off of.
- 48:15Speaker 3: This if you put it all on a website. These photos.
- 48:18Speaker 3: That guy's classic t-shirt.
- 48:21Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 48:24Speaker 3: I'm sure women are just lining up for him.
- 48:27Speaker 4: He's a gynecologist.
- 48:29Speaker 16: Yeah, he looks like a reputable gynecologist.
- 48:32Speaker 3: That hangs out at horror conventions. Yikes.
- 48:35Speaker 2: She is pretty damn awesome.
- 48:38Speaker 6: I was discussing with a passerby earlier how awesome Kid
- 48:42Speaker 6: Girls is.
- 48:51Speaker 4: I'm talking on Facebook about how much I hate Nicolas Cage.
- 48:55Speaker 3: Except in that movie.
- 48:56Speaker 4: He's awesome in that movie, too. I just fuck his
- 48:58Speaker 4: career choices on occasion.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Those are awesome.
- 49:01Speaker 5: He does have Captain Crunch on his leg.
- 49:04Speaker 3: Oh, if Marlena was here, right?
- 49:10Speaker 4: Those are awesome. He does have Captain Crunch.
- 49:13Speaker 3: On his leg. Oh, if Marlena was here right now.
- 49:15Speaker 6: No.
- 49:15Speaker 4: There's a Tony Tiger, though. That's old school.
- 49:37Speaker 3: What was that?
- 49:38Speaker 13: I said, I think the only pussy that guy ever
- 49:40Speaker 13: sees is down at the animal shelter.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but he still gets the same action either way. Yeah,
- 49:45Speaker 3: either way.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I don't even know what it is. Right after he
- 49:48Speaker 2: chose him.
- 49:50Speaker 6: I'm going to talk about Fever Lake, or we're going
- 49:53Speaker 6: to wait until we actually do another episode.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:56Speaker 3: I don't know. Do you want to go in-depth?
- 49:58Speaker 4: It wasn't bad. I liked Fever Lake. It had Hayman,
- 50:00Speaker 4: it had Mario Lopez. It was fun.
- 50:02Speaker 6: The only thing that made me suspend my belief was, okay,
- 50:08Speaker 6: I love me some Corey Haim.
- 50:09Speaker 4: I always have.
- 50:11Speaker 6: This is during his more not-quite-trim days.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:15Speaker 6: And you want me to believe that not only is
- 50:17Speaker 6: he on track, but that he is their fastest runner.
- 50:20Speaker 4: I'm sorry, but no.
- 50:23Speaker 3: That's just miscasting at that point, really.
- 50:26Speaker 6: He's running, and he's winning the race, wearing his oversized
- 50:29Speaker 6: sweats and shirt because he don't actually want to see
- 50:31Speaker 6: him with a shirt off the point.
- 50:32Speaker 3: No, no.
- 50:34Speaker 4: And you're going to tell me he's their track star.
- 50:37Speaker 6: What fucking poor-ass college school is this?
- 50:40Speaker 4: Corey Hay, I mean, it's slightly chunky days. It's your
- 50:43Speaker 4: track star.
- 50:44Speaker 3: And how old is he at this point? What college
- 50:46Speaker 3: is this? I don't even know. I'm pretty sure unless
- 50:49Speaker 3: you're like 19.
- 50:50Speaker 1: I'm 96.
- 50:50Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure 96. Okay, maybe then.
- 50:53Speaker 5: You get to see Mario Lopez die a horrible morning then.
- 50:57Speaker 4: We don't actually get to see it. You get to
- 50:59Speaker 4: see the aftermath of it.
- 51:00Speaker 3: Well, I keep waiting for that to happen. Me too, dude.
- 51:02Speaker 18: Don't worry about it.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Every week he's back on TV again, so it must
- 51:06Speaker 3: not be a fan now.
- 51:09Speaker 4: It's like an MTV dance show. Every damn time I
- 51:12Speaker 4: see it, I'm fucking serious. But it was alright. It
- 51:16Speaker 4: didn't make a damn good of sense, but I don't
- 51:17Speaker 4: need it. I don't need it to make a sense
- 51:19Speaker 4: for me to like it. I don't need that kind of,
- 51:22Speaker 4: you know... I just met Cory. He was cute and
- 51:24Speaker 4: that's all you need.
- 51:25Speaker 6: I spent half the movie trying to figure out if
- 51:27Speaker 6: it was a pimple or a nose ring. I'm pretty
- 51:29Speaker 6: sure it was a nose ring. It kind of glittered, so.
- 51:33Speaker 3: He is that cool, huh? I don't know.
- 51:34Speaker 4: He has glittery pimples. I can't tell.
- 51:36Speaker 3: That'd be pretty impressive, too, actually. He was hot.
- 51:41Speaker 4: Even if he was chunky, that's all they would have
- 51:42Speaker 4: done on him.
- 51:44Speaker 3: That is all you need.
- 51:45Speaker 4: I'm all over that.
- 51:47Speaker 11: You can.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Hey.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Yikes.
- 51:50Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 51:51Speaker 4: So, yeah, Paper Lake.
- 51:54Speaker 5: All right, so we are back with more buzz, and
- 51:57Speaker 5: we are here with Misty and.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Jay once again.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Hey. Hey. Yay.
- 52:04Speaker 5: So, yeah, you guys are the lucky bastards because you
- 52:06Speaker 5: get to do, you know what you love it.
- 52:09Speaker 3: It's time for the remix of the week.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Oh, great.
- 52:12Speaker 12: Yay.
- 52:13Speaker 6: Yay. I can totally read all your stuff before you
- 52:17Speaker 6: say it.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Then it'll ruin it, because if there's one thing I know,
- 52:22Speaker 3: it's that Jay loves Judge Dredd.
- 52:25Speaker 8: I do?
- 52:27Speaker 3: Of course, everybody loves Judge Dredd. All right, maybe not.
- 52:31Speaker 5: Judge Dredd, the influential character that helped popularize the grime
- 52:34Speaker 5: and gritty approach in the late 80s that led to
- 52:37Speaker 5: titles like Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, and Wolverine. And
- 52:40Speaker 5: now they're going to remake it, which we've kind of
- 52:42Speaker 5: discussed before, but we actually have who they're considering for
- 52:45Speaker 5: the role.
- 52:46Speaker 3: I think I heard this, but I forgot. They're considering
- 52:49Speaker 3: Carl Urban.
- 52:49Speaker 4: Oh, I love him!
- 52:52Speaker 3: Who's that?
- 52:53Speaker 4: Carl F. Bones in a new movie. Oh, yeah.
- 52:55Speaker 6: And the guy with the scraggly hair in Ghost Ship,
- 52:57Speaker 6: who we didn't realize it was him at first, because
- 52:58Speaker 6: he didn't look the same, and he had stupid hair.
- 53:00Speaker 16: Is he buff enough to be Judge Dredd?
- 53:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:03Speaker 3: He is? Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 53:05Speaker 13: That's actually kind of odd, because Stallone was complaining about
- 53:10Speaker 13: how most of the action heroes now, they can just
- 53:12Speaker 13: strap their muscles on, whereas he used to spend so
- 53:14Speaker 13: much time in the gym, him and Arnold Schwarzenegger and
- 53:16Speaker 13: all the other ones.
- 53:17Speaker 3: Yeah, now you can just strap on muscles. It's a
- 53:20Speaker 3: good plan if you can get it.
- 53:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:22Speaker 3: Strap on the abs, the codpiece, you know.
- 53:26Speaker 4: That one guy walking around earlier needed a strap on ass.
- 53:30Speaker 3: That's true. It's the sad part.
- 53:33Speaker 13: Yes, Misty's going to start a fund for guys who
- 53:35Speaker 13: don't have asses.
- 53:36Speaker 2: It's going to be the.
- 53:38Speaker 16: assless guy fun luckily.
- 53:39Speaker 4: My boyfriend has the most fantastic ass so he's safe
- 53:42Speaker 4: all right.
- 53:43Speaker 5: I'm leaving that alone anyway so um yeah my boy
- 53:47Speaker 5: uh as it were hasn't signed on yet officially yet
- 53:50Speaker 5: i like him but um yeah if he doesn't take
- 53:54Speaker 5: well if he takes the role it's worth noting that
- 53:56Speaker 5: in this version he's not going to take the mask
- 53:59Speaker 5: off I don't know if that's just in the action
- 54:01Speaker 5: scenes or what, but basically it's just going to be.
- 54:03Speaker 3: His chin doing all the acting. That's fine. It's kind
- 54:06Speaker 3: of weird.
- 54:07Speaker 5: He has a hot chin. It's just weird to take
- 54:13Speaker 5: a role as the lead actor and then nobody knows
- 54:15Speaker 5: it's you, basically.
- 54:16Speaker 3: Might as well be in V for Vendetta. Nobody knows
- 54:19Speaker 3: who that was either.
- 54:20Speaker 5: Except geeks like you guys.
- 54:22Speaker 4: Hugo Weaving.
- 54:24Speaker 3: I knew that.
- 54:26Speaker 5: But the rest of America, who doesn't, you know, super
- 54:28Speaker 5: late geek out over things, has no idea who the
- 54:30Speaker 5: hell that guy is.
- 54:31Speaker 3: You mean that guy with the mask on? So, yeah,
- 54:34Speaker 3: it's an odd choice for the actor to take that on, really.
- 54:37Speaker 5: So, yeah, the Judge Dredd remake will be directed by
- 54:40Speaker 5: Pete Travis, who did Vantage Point. And the adaptation is
- 54:45Speaker 5: written by Alex Garland, who did 28 Days Later and Sunshine.
- 54:49Speaker 3: So, actually, at least has written some decent movies.
- 54:52Speaker 11: So, yeah.
- 54:54Speaker 2: Will there be no Rob Schneider?
- 54:56Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 54:56Speaker 16: That's the only thing I care about is whether or
- 54:58Speaker 16: not Rob Schneider will be in it.
- 54:59Speaker 3: That he's not in it? No, that he is in it.
- 55:02Speaker 2: That's what made the movie.
- 55:04Speaker 4: Are you serious? That's what made the first movie.
- 55:06Speaker 16: I wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been in it.
- 55:07Speaker 4: I am the law.
- 55:08Speaker 2: I am the law.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Who lets Rob Schneider in a movie these days?
- 55:12Speaker 8: Oh, wait.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Adam Sandler. That's it. Oh, so yeah. The original writer
- 55:16Speaker 3: of Judge Dredd, the comic.
- 55:18Speaker 5: Book, he says he is very optimistic about this. Unlike
- 55:23Speaker 5: the You're Still Home version. So I guess he wasn't
- 55:26Speaker 5: a fan of the Stallone version.
- 55:28Speaker 2: Bruises.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Get my drift.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:33Speaker 6: Bruises.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Going off about that chick over there?
- 55:37Speaker 12: Yes.
- 55:38Speaker 3: You think she's so hot.
- 55:39Speaker 4: She's getting closer. She's setting off my bruise detector, and
- 55:42Speaker 4: I can't stop it. She's just asking for a beatdown.
- 55:46Speaker 4: I think she'd like it, though.
- 55:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 55:49Speaker 4: That's all I got. What's the next news? Is there
- 55:52Speaker 4: more news?
- 55:53Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 55:54Speaker 5: So, since breaking out with the 2003 horror import High Tension,
- 55:58Speaker 5: French director Alexandre Angeau, his three English language films have
- 56:03Speaker 5: been two remakes, which would be The Hills Have Eyes
- 56:05Speaker 5: and the upcoming Piranha 3D.
- 56:07Speaker 4: Which I'm excited about.
- 56:08Speaker 1: Yay!
- 56:10Speaker 5: And the original Mirrors. I don't know if anybody was
- 56:13Speaker 5: excited about Mirrors. So this week we found out while
- 56:17Speaker 5: doing early publicity for Piranha 3D, he revealed that he
- 56:21Speaker 5: hopes to be able to remake the gory 1980s slasher Maniac.
- 56:26Speaker 4: Haven't seen it.
- 56:26Speaker 5: In Maniac, a serial killer stalks and kills women each night,
- 56:29Speaker 5: scalping them to use his hair to adorn his apartment
- 56:32Speaker 5: full of mannequins.
- 56:33Speaker 3: See, I'm not the only one that does that.
- 56:34Speaker 4: See, exactly. You fit right in. Are you sure it's
- 56:37Speaker 4: not just a.
- 56:37Speaker 9: Movie about you?
- 56:39Speaker 11: No.
- 56:40Speaker 3: I have really high quality mannequins.
- 56:43Speaker 5: Maniac is directed by William Lustig, who went on to
- 56:46Speaker 5: direct the first three movies in the similarly titled Maniac
- 56:49Speaker 5: Cop franchise.
- 56:49Speaker 4: That's totally different. What are you talking about? It's completely different.
- 56:53Speaker 3: It's got cop on the end.
- 56:55Speaker 4: So, same thing.
- 56:58Speaker 5: They say Aja would not be directing the Maniac remake himself.
- 57:01Speaker 5: He would actually be producer on the film, and they
- 57:03Speaker 5: will actually be working with his frequent writing partner. But
- 57:07Speaker 5: that guy is the one going to be making his
- 57:09Speaker 5: directorial debut.
- 57:10Speaker 3: So they're going to be handing off.
- 57:12Speaker 5: Using his popularity to get this other guy directing gig, basically.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Nah.
- 57:18Speaker 4: Nice.
- 57:22Speaker 6: That, I guess, can round out the buzz. It's like
- 57:26Speaker 6: 100 degrees in here. Why the fuck is that douchebag
- 57:28Speaker 6: wearing a toboggan on his head?
- 57:29Speaker 3: I swear to God. Because it makes him so much
- 57:31Speaker 3: cooler than the rest of you people.
- 57:33Speaker 6: If it's hot enough, you gotta roll your goddamn sleeves up.
- 57:35Speaker 6: It's fucking too hot for a damn toboggan.
- 57:37Speaker 3: Or have a western shirt with no sleeves.
- 57:39Speaker 4: Oh, you just missed him.
- 57:40Speaker 3: I don't know what it is.
- 57:41Speaker 16: With kids wearing toboggans nowadays. I don't get that. When
- 57:44Speaker 16: I was a kid.
- 57:45Speaker 3: And I got hot, I took my damn hat off.
- 57:47Speaker 3: Or shaved my head. It makes you cool. All the
- 57:50Speaker 3: kids at the mall are wearing it.
- 57:52Speaker 4: It makes your head sweat and you get a head rash.
- 57:54Speaker 16: Yeah, that bakes their brain.
- 57:57Speaker 3: They get stupider. I think most of the kids are
- 58:00Speaker 3: baking themselves these days anyway.
- 58:01Speaker 4: That's what's wrong with today's society. Kids wearing toboggans.
- 58:04Speaker 3: I mean, it's gotten so bad, even Jason.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Oh, wait.
- 58:07Speaker 5: So earlier we were over looking at toys, and they've
- 58:09Speaker 5: got a little post-it note on this Jason action figure.
- 58:13Speaker 5: And I look at it, and I swear for a second,
- 58:14Speaker 5: I was like, does that say get me stoned?
- 58:17Speaker 4: I thought it said that too, as soon as I
- 58:20Speaker 4: looked at it. I was like, well, first of all,
- 58:22Speaker 4: it's plastic.
- 58:22Speaker 3: I don't think that's going to work. And second of all,
- 58:24Speaker 3: if I remember from the remake, Jason was not big
- 58:26Speaker 3: on the pot smoking. It kind of pissed him off.
- 58:28Speaker 3: So I don't think you're going to get Jason stoned.
- 58:30Speaker 6: It's the same booth that also pissed me off because
- 58:33Speaker 6: they had the re-release. The new edition of the She-Ra
- 58:36Speaker 6: action figure, which is one of my childhood heroes right there.
- 58:40Speaker 6: I had the original action figure. Okay, this was a redo,
- 58:43Speaker 6: and fucking hell, it pissed me off. She's got plastic hair.
- 58:48Speaker 6: Don't give her a fucking comb. She doesn't need a comb.
- 58:51Speaker 6: Hard plastic hair. You cannot comb that shit unless you're
- 58:55Speaker 6: going to comb your own hair with a tiny little.
- 58:57Speaker 4: Comb that's like, what, a half of an inch long?
- 58:59Speaker 4: That's just fucking stupid. Fucking hell.
- 59:02Speaker 3: It's like a mustache comb.
- 59:04Speaker 5: For all those little girls out there deciding whether or
- 59:06Speaker 5: not they want to, you know, groom their facial hair.
- 59:09Speaker 4: Oh, that's okay then.
- 59:10Speaker 16: Only reason they did it i guess was because the
- 59:11Speaker 16: original came with a comb but.
- 59:12Speaker 6: The original had hair hair you could brush small small
- 59:18Speaker 6: oversight it's not a small oversight she's got plastic hair
- 59:21Speaker 6: and a fucking.
- 59:22Speaker 16: Comb you can pretend to comb her plastic hair then.
- 59:25Speaker 5: You're just fucking retarded Hey, there are a lot of
- 59:28Speaker 5: special children out there in the world.
- 59:31Speaker 3: Maybe they want to pretend to comb plastic hair.
- 59:34Speaker 4: Never mind. Never mind.
- 59:36Speaker 5: Your job as a parent is to just patronize them
- 59:38Speaker 5: and go, that's good, Sally, you brush that hair.
- 59:40Speaker 4: Okay, if the kid.
- 59:42Speaker 6: Is stupid enough to brush plastic hair with a fucking
- 59:45Speaker 6: little plastic comb, chances are you're going to have to
- 59:48Speaker 6: worry about them swallowing the damn thing than actually doing
- 59:51Speaker 6: any good.
- 59:51Speaker 3: That's true. It's not, yeah, it's a pretty small comb,
- 59:54Speaker 3: I'm First of all, who's opening that thing anyway?
- 59:57Speaker 4: It's going to suck poop out of comb if you
- 59:58Speaker 4: swallow it.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: Well, it was bound to come to that eventually. All
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: righty then.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: I'm tired.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: I didn't get much sleep last night. People here kind
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: of smell, and I'm ready to go home.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: It's hot.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Not here.
- 1:00:16Speaker 16: Well, not here in our booth.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: We've got A.C.
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: Well.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Fans.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: Two fans.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: We hauled in our own fans. I don't know that
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: other people liked that fact that we did it anyway.
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: Poor little miserable bastards were sweating their asses off everywhere
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: else and weren't hoarding two fucking fans over here.
- 1:00:30Speaker 16: Hey, we planned ahead and brought our own shit.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: I told you to bring it. Exactly. You wanted to
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: just bring that little fan. I said, no, bring the
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: big fan.
- 1:00:39Speaker 13: Okay, well, I didn't know how hot it was going
- 1:00:40Speaker 13: to be out here.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: We have made use of it, so there you go.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: Cheerleader undercarriage.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: Oh, yikes. Damn that fan. We didn't need that.
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: I guess we're pretty much wrapping up the show here.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: Anything you want to tell people out there?
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: Titanic 2 is the stupidest idea I've ever heard of.
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: You don't need another Titanic on the same day. It's
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: going to hit the same damn iceberg. You ought to
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: see that coming.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: Yeah, that's pretty dumb. That's stupid.
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: Yeah, if you're on our Facebook page, you saw me
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: post that the other day, and I was.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: Like, what the fuck are they thinking?
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: The sad thing is, I had watched the trailer for
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: that the day before you posted it, and Jay was like,
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: I don't even want to see it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: It sounds stupid. I don't even want to hear about it.
- 1:01:29Speaker 13: Yeah, I didn't even want to turn around and watch it.
- 1:01:31Speaker 13: I know what's going to happen. They're going to hit
- 1:01:32Speaker 13: a goddamn iceberg, and they're all going to die.
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: Wait, you think? Hold on a minute. What are the
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: odds of that? Actually, I think it's pretty vast.
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: Why would you have the Titanic 2 anyways? It obviously
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: didn't end well the first time, you know? I mean,
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: it's not like it had a good voyage. It kind
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: of fucking sailed in.
- 1:01:48Speaker 16: Well, like I said, that's like a Hindenburg 2. Hey,
- 1:01:50Speaker 16: let's make another one.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: How's this one going to end?
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: And that just got greenlit. I hate to tell you.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Yeah, well.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Hindenburg 2, coming soon to a theater near you.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: It's going to get attacked by a super gator because
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: that would be awesome.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: That would be awesome.
- 1:02:02Speaker 16: Why don't they remake a good movie like Suburban Commando?
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: I thought you said a good movie.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Make up your mind.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: What's wrong with Suburban Commando?
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: Many, many things.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: Starring Rob Schneider.
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: No. What is your obsession with Rob Schneider?
- 1:02:17Speaker 16: Rob Schneider's not in that.
- 1:02:18Speaker 9: I was recasting him.
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: Dreamcasting with Rob Schneider.
- 1:02:22Speaker 13: He could strap on the Hulk Hogan muscles and all
- 1:02:24Speaker 13: of a sudden, and whatever that hair is, it's not
- 1:02:27Speaker 13: really a mullet, I don't guess.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: It's a skullet.
- 1:02:29Speaker 16: It's a skullet.
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: I don't think he had hair for a long time. Alright,
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: so I guess, assuming this is the end, we'll.
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: I'm done.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: Yay!
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: Fuck She-Ross Cone. Fuck She-Ross Cone. She don't need it.
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: She's a bitch got plastic hair.
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: On that note, we will send you off on your
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: merry way. So, thank you for listening to our coverage
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: from Fright Night Film Fest. We'll return next week.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:02:58Speaker 18: Though we gotta say goodbye for.
- 1:03:02Speaker 16: The sun I promise you this. I'll send you all
- 1:03:11Speaker 16: my love.
- 1:03:14Speaker 12: Every day in a letter.
