  And one of the episodes name is Doorman.

  And I thought surely this could not be the same Doorman from

  Great Lake Avengers. And it very well could be, but I

  don't know yet. So just in case, I'm going to

  cover all my bases here and I'm going to give you a breakdown of
• 0:39
  who Doorman is. So Doorman first appeared in
• 0:43
  Marvel Comics and West Coast Avengers volume to #46 and he
• 0:47
  was created by John Byrne before he ever joined the Great Lake
• 0:50
  Avengers, which I will have an episode about coming very soon,
• 0:54
  so keep an eye out. DeMar Davis was just a pretty
• 0:57
  normal American kid. While he was in college, his
• 1:00
  mother passed away, unfortunately, which deeply
• 1:03
  affected him. After finishing four years of
• 1:05
  college and then another three years in grad school, DeMar came
• 1:09
  across a newspaper ad from Mr. Immortal asking for costumed
• 1:13
  adventurers to form a new team, and he answered that call.

  DeMar turned out to be a mutant, which you guys know I love my
• 1:22
  mutants. With a very unusual power, he

  could teleport through solid objects.

  This made him incredibly useful for breaking into almost any
• 1:30
  building, setting up stealth entries and surprise attacks for
• 1:34
  his team mates. Pate took the name Doorman and
• 1:38
  became part of the original Great Lakes Avengers lineup.

  As a part of the GLA, or the Great Lakes Avengers, Doorman
• 1:46
  created a memorial at their headquarters for fallen
• 1:49
  teammates. He especially blamed himself for
• 1:52
  the death of Grasshopper, one of their newer recruits, who was
• 1:55
  killed when Doorman used his powers to let a sigh pass
• 1:58
  through his body, only for it to strike Grasshopper instead.

  Wracked with guilt, Doorman even tried to scare off another
• 2:06
  potential recruit, Squirrel Girl, because he was terrified
• 2:09
  she'd end up dying too. Ironically, Doorman was the next
• 2:14
  one to die. He sacrificed himself so Mr.

  Immortal could defeat the villain Maelstrom.

  In the afterlife, Doorman reunited with the other deceased
• 2:24
  members of the GLA, including Grasshopper, who actually
• 2:26
  forgave him. While there, Doorman noticed
• 2:29
  something strange. Hawkeye wasn't present among the
• 2:32
  dead. Shortly after, the cosmic entity
• 2:35
  Oblivion summoned him because of Doorman's link to the Dark Force
• 2:39
  Dimension, Oblivion decided he could replace Deatherge, who had
• 2:43
  been captured by Mr. Immortal, and appointed Doorman his new
• 2:48
  Angel of Death. So he is going places.

  Despite being dead, Doorman continued to serve as a member
• 2:55
  of the team. However, after the Real Avengers
• 2:58
  issued A subpoena, the group was forced to change their names to
• 3:02
  the Great Lakes X-Men. The GLX not long after
• 3:07
  Maelstrom. Maelstrom.

  I don't know how my mouth is supposed to say the name, so
• 3:13
  Maelstrom's just going to have to work.

  So not long after a Maelstrom incident, Doorman was
• 3:19
  celebrating Christmas with the GLX when he told them he needed
• 3:23
  to visit his father. When he arrived, his father
• 3:26
  immediately criticized him, saying Damar was wasting his
• 3:29
  life and needed to join the real world and had stupid powers,
• 3:33
  especially compared to other superheroes.

  Realizing his own happiness mattered more than his father's
• 3:39
  approval, DeMar finally told him the truth.

  He had died and returned as an Angel of death.

  He also revealed that he hadn't come home to visit.

  He had come to collect his father's soul since his dad had
• 3:54
  fallen off the roof and died while putting up Christmas
• 3:57
  lights. Surprisingly, this revelation

  thrilled his father, who couldn't wait to brag in heaven

  about his son being the new Angel of Death.

  Afterward, Doorman returned to the team but kept his secret

  from his teammates so he wouldn't ruin their holiday

  cheer. What a guy.

  Later, Doorman and the rest of the team took part in a charity

  superhero poker tournament hosted by The Thing.

  Ben Grimm, Flat Man ended up beating the Thing in the final

  round, and riding that victory, the team decided to rename

  themselves the Great League Champions.

  There was a lot of rebranding and I mean, which is fine.

  Great Lake Avengers, X-Men and Champions, It's such a small,

  unknown group, I guess. Well, unknown to the casual

  Marvel fan, they made his choice after being discouraged from
• 4:48
  affiliating with the X-Men or the Defenders by members of
• 4:51
  those teams, A completely ignoring protest from Hercules,

  a former champion of Los Angeles.

  team. Doorman and Big Bertha were the

  only former members who answered Flatman's call to reunite.

  What they didn't know was that Flat Man's phone was now in the

  hands of a local girl named Pansy.

  Not wanting to make assumptions, Pansy showed up at the meeting

  point and abandoned Stark Assembly and Manufacturing Plant

  in Detroit that served as the GLA's new headquarter and she

  waited. When The Avengers arrived, she

  explained the mix up and gave them a tour of the facility.

  Trouble started almost immediately when the team
• 6:14
  decided brilliantly to visit a local bar at night and ask them
• 6:19
  to turn the music down. The owner, who is Nane Roche,
• 6:23
  secretly Councilman Dicksnerd, which is a wild, wild name.

  Dicksnerd refused and insulted them.

  After fight broke out and the team was arrested, Doorman

  escaped and discovered Mr. Immortal inside a coffin he used

  for voluntary solitary confinement.

  Doorman freed him and convinced him to help rescue the others.

  Shortly after returning, Doorman was pulled back into the Dark

  Force Dimension, where Oblivion angrily demanded to know why he

  was so absent. Doorman was forced to resume his
• 6:57
  duties as Oblivion's servant, but still returned in time to

  help the GLA fight the supervillain Dr. Nod.

  Doorman played a crucial role by teleporting Mr. Immortal inside

  Nod's body and having him punch punch Nod's heart, instantly

  defeating him. Even though the city celebrated

  their victory, things fell apart fast when Deadpool showed up

  again, this time as a member of The Avengers Unity Division.

  He informed the team they were fired, explaining that their

  legal claim to The Avengers name did not hold up in court.

  He bluntly added that people who just didn't like them, though he

  cheerfully suggested they could try again in a few years.

  Which is so sassy. When former teammates Squirrel

  Girl was believed to have died in the line of duty, Doorman

  served as a literal doorman at her funeral.

  Since there was no official guest list, he simply let
• 7:54
  everyone in who showed up and wanted to come inside.

  And that was the last time we saw Doorman.

  That was an unbeatable Squirrel Girl volume to #37 maybe 37.

  I'm not going to look it up. So yeah, that's Doorman's story,

  but what can he do? So I really didn't get into much

  of what he could do, but I'm about to tell you.

  So what he can do is Dark Force teleportation.

  Doorman is a high level class 10 teleporter.

  His body acts as a doorway to the Dark Force dimension,
• 8:28
  letting people and objects pass through him.

  If he stands in front of a wall or an obstacle, and that line of
• 8:33
  his body appears on the other side and anyone can step through
• 8:37
  him to get past it. Intangibility.

  Because he's basically a living Dark Forest portal, Doorman can

  become completely intangible. That means people or objects can

  accidentally or forcibly pass through him in the Dark Forest

  into solid objects like creating things such as skis and ski

  poles. Flight, he can fly and

  vulnerability, he cannot be physically harmed.

  Self sustenance, He doesn't need to breathe and can survive in

  the vacuum of space. Which is it's it's not.

  Of course, it's weird, but it's also kind of unsettling.

  Costume summoning. He can instantly switch into his

  costume at will. So that is Damar, that is

  Doorman. He is a very interesting

  character and one that never got the attention he deserved.

  So I'm very interested to see if he's actually in the Wonder Man

  series because it's like, what could they possibly use him for?

  He he can do so many things. So that's what I'm very excited
