- 0:03Speaker 1: Singapore, wake up.
- 0:06Speaker 1: next to you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit, and welcome to the show.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's almost Friday. Yes, the weekend is almost here. Back to, um,
- 0:18Speaker 1: business as usual this week after a short work week.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Your final 2 days to win Leve tickets here on
- 0:24Speaker 1: our show. Be on standby for that. Conan Gray first,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Singapore's number 1 hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: It's Steve Aoki with Regard, New York, also featuring Maisy
- 0:37Speaker 1: right here on 987, Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I'm not sure if you've seen this. I'm sure you have. Um,
- 0:43Speaker 1: Steve Aoki has always been compared to, um, this rice
- 0:47Speaker 1: cooker logo.
- 0:50Speaker 1: That somehow looks like Kim. Can you just type Steve
- 0:53Speaker 1: Aoki rice cooker? Just type it right now. Steve Aoki
- 0:56Speaker 1: rice cooker. OK. Do you see it? Do you see
- 1:00Speaker 1: the rice cooker? The rice cooker brand is aroma. Oh
- 1:06Speaker 1: my God the design kind of like looks like Steve,
- 1:08Speaker 1: a sketch of Steve Aoki because of his mustache and
- 1:10Speaker 1: his long hair. If you were Steve Aoki, would you
- 1:13Speaker 1: rather be compared to a rice cooker or Asian Jesus?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Actually both he's been compared to both and
- 1:19Speaker 1: And to be honest, um, do you remember that trend
- 1:22Speaker 1: where I was like, oh, Dad, what were you like
- 1:24Speaker 1: in the 90s? So he did that trend and he
- 1:27Speaker 1: put pictures of the rice cooker. Hilarious. I don't know
- 1:30Speaker 1: how much she was paid just to do that small
- 1:31Speaker 1: little one, but I really love her so much. And
- 1:35Speaker 1: Tod making his way back into the music scene. Fantastic.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I think he's been posting again about the stuff he's
- 1:40Speaker 1: been working on, so we're really excited. OK, bit of
- 1:43Speaker 1: an update. Joakim isn't feeling so well, and he's decided
- 1:47Speaker 1: to head on home.
- 1:48Speaker 1: So the last couple of, uh, last 5 to 10 minutes.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Thank you for waiting and for being patient. We're just
- 1:54Speaker 1: discussing like, what to do because I think he's having
- 1:56Speaker 1: a pretty bad migraine today. So he's decided to go
- 1:59Speaker 1: on home. And I was like, bro, then why did
- 2:01Speaker 1: you come in in the first place? Like, you came
- 2:05Speaker 1: on twice and then you decided to go back.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I think he thought that maybe the migraine will go away, but,
- 2:11Speaker 1: you know, it is what it is, it happens. Sometimes
- 2:13Speaker 1: it's the heat, lack of sleep, or I don't know, dehydration,
- 2:17Speaker 1: many things. Sonia with you this morning. Gonna be solo
- 2:20Speaker 1: for today, but coming up in just a couple of minutes. Oh,
- 2:23Speaker 1: this one is exciting and it gives us a bit
- 2:25Speaker 1: of a heads up, OK, because it's happening on the
- 2:27Speaker 1: 22nd and 23rd of April.
- 2:30Speaker 1: During these dates, we encourage you to drop your phones,
- 2:34Speaker 1: just don't touch them and look into the sky because
- 2:37Speaker 1: this is not gonna happen, I think for a, for
- 2:40Speaker 1: a very long time, OK? And this is gonna be
- 2:43Speaker 1: visible here in Singapore. I cannot wait to tell you
- 2:45Speaker 1: more about it.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And uh why you should probably try and stay up late.
- 2:50Speaker 1: This is the only time that you should stay up
- 2:51Speaker 1: late during this period, um, specifically those days that I
- 2:55Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, 22nd, 23rd, but, um, I think during that
- 3:00Speaker 1: period of time, 17th to the 23rd, this will be visible.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'll tell you what it is.
- 3:05Speaker 1: is in just a bit. Like I said, it's something
- 3:08Speaker 1: for you to block, OK, these dates, 22nd and 23rd
- 3:11Speaker 1: of April specifically, because something is gonna happen that only
- 3:15Speaker 1: occurs once every 60 years, 60, OK? So I am
- 3:20Speaker 1: not sure whether some of us may even live to
- 3:23Speaker 1: see the next one. I mean, morbid, but it's true, right?
- 3:27Speaker 1: 60 years. I mean it's the Lyritz meteor shower, it's
- 3:30Speaker 1: gonna be visible here in Singapore. How incredible is that?
- 3:33Speaker 1: I don't think
- 3:34Speaker 1: OK, I've never seen a meteor shower before in my
- 3:36Speaker 1: entire life. Um, the, the closest that I got was
- 3:40Speaker 1: in New Zealand when it was, you know, um, very, very,
- 3:43Speaker 1: very pitch black, and they don't have a lot of, uh,
- 3:46Speaker 1: high-rise buildings and stuff. It's mostly nature, right, in most
- 3:48Speaker 1: parts of New Zealand. So if you drive out far enough,
- 3:51Speaker 1: it's very dark, and if you look up, sometimes you
- 3:53Speaker 1: might even see like what we call a shooting star
- 3:56Speaker 1: or the whole sky is like a blanket of stars,
- 4:00Speaker 1: but
- 4:01Speaker 1: It is not the most common here in Singapore. Firstly,
- 4:03Speaker 1: we've got major light pollution. I don't mean that in
- 4:06Speaker 1: a negative way, but because we're a city and we're
- 4:08Speaker 1: very dense, right? So there's a lot of light pollution
- 4:11Speaker 1: and the skies are not always that dark, if you notice.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So you have to go to places like parks, um,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you know, wide open spaces where there's no city lights,
- 4:21Speaker 1: there's no buildings. So try to do that. Parks, beaches, reservoirs, um,
- 4:26Speaker 1: experts are saying, yeah, open spaces, but also,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I think our friends over at Science Center Observatory, um,
- 4:32Speaker 1: they will not be holding a specific viewing session for
- 4:35Speaker 1: this meteor shower. It does hold stargazing sessions on selected Fridays,
- 4:40Speaker 1: so you may still be able to spot it if
- 4:42Speaker 1: it falls on a Friday.
- 4:43Speaker 1: But um the Lyritz meteor shower is actually named for
- 4:46Speaker 1: its radiant points near the constellation Lyra. I mean, I'm
- 4:51Speaker 1: no expert, but it sounds magical and maybe you can
- 4:53Speaker 1: make a wish if you do catch the meteor shower.
- 4:56Speaker 1: This is happening once again, only once every 60 years,
- 4:59Speaker 1: visible here in Singapore, 22nd and 23rd of April. So,
- 5:03Speaker 1: if there's one time that you want to ask permission,
- 5:05Speaker 1: From your parents to be out after 11 p.m. Maybe
- 5:08Speaker 1: with them, you can go with them. This, these are
- 5:11Speaker 1: probably the dates, OK? 22nd, 23rd of April, catch the
- 5:15Speaker 1: meteor shower. I really hope I managed to see it.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Time to open up phone lines, 669-11987. The show goes
- 5:21Speaker 1: on and we would love to hear from you. Now, um,
- 5:23Speaker 1: a couple of days back when I did, I was
- 5:25Speaker 1: live on TikTok at night.
- 5:27Speaker 1: A couple of you were like, hey, can we still
- 5:29Speaker 1: call in if we're not currently in school? Like, what
- 5:31Speaker 1: if we just graduated, but we want to give our
- 5:34Speaker 1: school a shout out. That's completely fine. Like we're completely
- 5:37Speaker 1: OK with that. So give us a call, 669-11987, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: if you're still currently in school, tell us why you
- 5:44Speaker 1: want Joakim and I to come drop by during your assembly.
- 5:47Speaker 1: We would love to. In fact, I think we have one,
- 5:49Speaker 1: school visit in 1 to 2 weeks. So we'd love
- 5:52Speaker 1: to hear from you. Phone lines are open. You can
- 5:54Speaker 1: get a song in and a dedication. Call me right now.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Giving a shout out to Celine, your line got cut
- 6:02Speaker 1: off just like a few seconds into our call, unfortunately,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and you were so excited.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I wish you would call me back, but you know what?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Phone lines are open. If it's fake, you managed to
- 6:11Speaker 1: call me back. 669-11987. Taking shoutouts right now. Your dedications,
- 6:17Speaker 1: your song requests. Who do you want to give a
- 6:18Speaker 1: shout out to? Sonia with you this morning. Now, I'm
- 6:21Speaker 1: flying solo. Um, as you know, earlier on, Joakim has
- 6:24Speaker 1: decided that he's gonna stay home and go home because
- 6:27Speaker 1: he had a really bad migraine. So, uh, yeah, drop
- 6:30Speaker 1: him a DM. Tell him, feel better soon, I hope.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not sure whether it could be maybe
- 6:35Speaker 1: the heats, dehydration, lack of sleep. By the way, um,
- 6:41Speaker 1: if you know, was there any like football match last night,
- 6:43Speaker 1: don't have, right?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Because sometimes I'm wondering like if there's a football match,
- 6:49Speaker 1: did he wake up or did he have to like
- 6:51Speaker 1: stay up late to watch it and stuff. So I
- 6:54Speaker 1: did a quick search. Not that I don't trust him,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but I just wanted to be sure. So if you
- 6:58Speaker 1: know anything, if there was a match or something that
- 7:01Speaker 1: he might have been catching, just, you know, let me
- 7:04Speaker 1: know about that.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Anyway, um, hope he feels better very soon, but now
- 7:09Speaker 1: we're gonna head to the phone lines, 669-11987. We lost
- 7:12Speaker 1: Celine earlier who got cut off. She was in the
- 7:14Speaker 1: car with her parents, but not to worry, we're gonna
- 7:17Speaker 1: head back to the phone lines right now to find
- 7:18Speaker 1: out who is on and what song you want to
- 7:21Speaker 1: hear this morning. It is a time for you to
- 7:23Speaker 1: really give a shout out to your friends, to your
- 7:26Speaker 1: school as well and tell us why you want us
- 7:27Speaker 1: to come down.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So let's head to the phone lines now. Hello, good morning.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Who's this? Evans. Evans, what school are you from? Andrew Junior.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Saint Andrew's Junior. Yay! We got another one from Saint Andrews. OK,
- 7:39Speaker 1: what song can I get you today and who is
- 7:41Speaker 1: it going out to Evans? Light Switch. Light Switch by Charlie.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Truth? OK, and anyone that is going out to in particular?
- 7:49Speaker 1: All my friends. Gotcha. It's coming up right now and
- 7:51Speaker 1: you have a great day. I hope to see you
- 7:53Speaker 1: soon at St. Andrew's, OK? OK, bye-bye. Now coming up
- 7:56Speaker 1: in just a few minutes, you know our friends from Grab,
- 7:58Speaker 1: they're constantly innovating. They've got new stuff all the time.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And if I can safely say, if you're tuning in now,
- 8:05Speaker 1: I'm sure all of us have a Grab account and
- 8:08Speaker 1: we use it at least once a day.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Either for, either for transport, for deliveries, groceries, or even like,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you know, food ordering, the most obvious one. We touch
- 8:19Speaker 1: the app at least once a day, right? Safe to
- 8:22Speaker 1: say that. Um, in just a couple of minutes, find
- 8:24Speaker 1: out what they're launching.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Um, during Grab X 2026 where it was unveiled actually,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and it's part of 13 AI powered features that were
- 8:33Speaker 1: unveiled at Grab X 2026. Quite exciting stuff. Cannot wait
- 8:38Speaker 1: to share a little bit more with you and it
- 8:39Speaker 1: looks like the future is very bright with Grab.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Um, seeing how some of these things I feel like
- 8:44Speaker 1: I might have seen in the US, but it wasn't
- 8:47Speaker 1: introduced here in Singapore just yet. Sonia was here this morning.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me here today and uh like I
- 8:53Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, some exciting stuff happening with our friends over
- 8:55Speaker 1: at Grab. And like I said, we would open up
- 8:58Speaker 1: that app at least once a day, right? I mean,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I do, that's for sure. Ordering food clearly has never
- 9:05Speaker 1: been so easy. I think here in Singapore, we've become
- 9:07Speaker 1: a bit of like um,
- 9:09Speaker 1: An ordering community, right? Like we just, anything you can
- 9:12Speaker 1: just order like whatever it is, groceries, um, maybe even,
- 9:16Speaker 1: you know, things that you need essentials from like your
- 9:18Speaker 1: nearest uh Watson's or whatever, you can even order those
- 9:21Speaker 1: things now. It's incredible, right?
- 9:23Speaker 1: But over at Grab X 2026, Grab has announced many
- 9:27Speaker 1: upgrades and many projects they're working on. Part of its
- 9:30Speaker 1: uh 13 AI powered features that were unveiled at Grab
- 9:34Speaker 1: X 2026, and this is their like annual showcase. So
- 9:38Speaker 1: it's almost like just to tell you what to expect
- 9:40Speaker 1: in the upcoming year or what they're working on. I
- 9:42Speaker 1: just wanted to highlight two, OK, because there's so many,
- 9:45Speaker 1: highlighting two. Something that I've seen over in the US before. Um,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I was just in LA like a year ago.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Or even less than a year ago. Um, they're pretty
- 9:55Speaker 1: advanced because they've got things like autonomous vehicles already running,
- 9:59Speaker 1: you know, um, one of them is called Waymo, it's
- 10:01Speaker 1: very common, and I took Waymo like really quite a
- 10:04Speaker 1: number of times. It's also a bit cheaper than, you know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: your Ubers and stuff over in the US. And something
- 10:09Speaker 1: else that we were seeing milling about in LA.
- 10:12Speaker 1: These little robots that are just going along the sidewalk,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you know, like they're just on their own. It looks
- 10:18Speaker 1: like a crate because it's holding food inside. So it's
- 10:22Speaker 1: like food delivery service like DoorDash or whatever they have
- 10:24Speaker 1: in the US, right? And these little bots are just,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I'm guessing, controlled by the satellites and stuff. They're going
- 10:31Speaker 1: along the sidewalks, they even cross the road, they get
- 10:34Speaker 1: to people's houses and all that. It's pretty crazy because
- 10:37Speaker 1: you don't see that in Singapore just yet. I'm sure
- 10:40Speaker 1: it's being developed.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And true enough, Grab has announced they are pursuing some
- 10:45Speaker 1: of the best technology in the world to make sure
- 10:47Speaker 1: they have autonomous vehicles, CCTV cameras, very soon, robots as well.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But they did note that they're not meant to be
- 10:54Speaker 1: a replacement for their drivers. It's more of a superhuman
- 10:57Speaker 1: extension of the drivers. What does that mean? I'm sure
- 11:01Speaker 1: we'll find out very soon how they're going to, you know, um,
- 11:04Speaker 1: calibrate this and how they're going to involve robots and
- 11:07Speaker 1: AI in their whole entire ecosystem.
- 11:10Speaker 1: It's pretty cool what I saw in LA. So if
- 11:12Speaker 1: that is what's going to happen here in Singapore, yeah, I,
- 11:15Speaker 1: I'm curious to know how the delivery riders are going
- 11:17Speaker 1: to feel, but once again, assurance from Grab is not
- 11:19Speaker 1: meant to replace the drivers. The second thing that's quite
- 11:23Speaker 1: interesting is Grab stays, a hotel booking service. Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I mean, why have we not thought about this sooner,
- 11:30Speaker 1: to be honest, right? Like make hotel bookings a little
- 11:32Speaker 1: easier because in Singapore, I feel like we do have
- 11:35Speaker 1: a very strong culture of staycations as well. And there
- 11:38Speaker 1: are many platforms. There are so many hotel booking platforms,
- 11:41Speaker 1: but
- 11:42Speaker 1: The, the, the interesting thing is because all of us
- 11:45Speaker 1: already have Grab on our phones. I thought this was
- 11:48Speaker 1: really smart actually, and I think this is going to
- 11:51Speaker 1: be an AI first hotel ecosystem to offer competitive last-minute rates. Oh,
- 11:57Speaker 1: music to our ears, right? I think all of us
- 11:59Speaker 1: are definitely going to give it a go at least once.
- 12:02Speaker 1: When was your last vacation, by the way, if you
- 12:04Speaker 1: just think about it.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I don't quite remember my last staycation. It's been a
- 12:08Speaker 1: very long time. Yeah, have a think, when was the
- 12:10Speaker 1: last time you did a stay and will you use
- 12:13Speaker 1: this on their new upgraded app? Good Morning. Thanks for
- 12:16Speaker 1: joining me. Well, we're about maybe 15 to 20 minutes
- 12:19Speaker 1: away from opening up phone lines for $7000. But here's
- 12:23Speaker 1: a little um food for thought, OK? If you're tuning
- 12:25Speaker 1: in now and you've already started working, most likely, or
- 12:28Speaker 1: maybe you're on the way to uni or poly or
- 12:31Speaker 1: wherever it is that you're headed to.
- 12:32Speaker 1: 7:30 right now, yeah, I think it would be the
- 12:34Speaker 1: tertiary students that are on the way to school right now. Um,
- 12:38Speaker 1: do you know or do you remember what your starting
- 12:42Speaker 1: pay was after graduating? And if you're still in school
- 12:45Speaker 1: right now, if you're in poly, uni, or ITE, whatever,
- 12:49Speaker 1: do you have an expectation of how much you are
- 12:52Speaker 1: going to be paid the moment you graduate? Have a
- 12:55Speaker 1: number in mind and I've got some stats to share
- 12:57Speaker 1: with you in just a while because this really took
- 12:59Speaker 1: me back to my
- 13:01Speaker 1: Well, my first job while I was graduating, which is
- 13:04Speaker 1: this job that I'm doing right now.
- 13:07Speaker 1: OK, so I asked you a question earlier. Do you
- 13:09Speaker 1: still recall like what your very first job was out
- 13:13Speaker 1: of uni or after graduation, and what was your starting pay?
- 13:17Speaker 1: Do you have that number in mind? OK. Well, some
- 13:19Speaker 1: stats have come in and I'll share, I'll share with
- 13:22Speaker 1: you what mine was, OK, in just a bit. 46.9%
- 13:26Speaker 1: of private uni fresh grads here in Singapore.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Have found full-time jobs within 6 months of graduating, very
- 13:33Speaker 1: good news, and the median gross salary has been holding
- 13:36Speaker 1: stable at about $3500 here in Singapore. Um, you know what,
- 13:42Speaker 1: that's a lot because I remember back then when I
- 13:45Speaker 1: was in uni, mine wasn't a private uni, but I
- 13:48Speaker 1: think it should be kind of similar-ish in a way.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'm not sure what the big differences, uh, differences are.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I think there might be another follow-up article soon perhaps,
- 13:57Speaker 1: but
- 13:59Speaker 1: My starting pay was not even $3000 at that point. OK,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I'm not sure whether it was because I was still
- 14:04Speaker 1: in school, like I was still in uni at the time,
- 14:07Speaker 1: then midway through, I graduated. So that was my story, right?
- 14:11Speaker 1: If you've been following me since back then, since I
- 14:13Speaker 1: started at 987, I was still in university back then.
- 14:15Speaker 1: So I don't know whether that kind of affected the, the,
- 14:19Speaker 1: the pay that I got when I just got out here,
- 14:22Speaker 1: and also I had zero negotiating skills. I mean,
- 14:26Speaker 1: I think I was just more of like grateful to
- 14:28Speaker 1: have a job offer at that time, but, you know, you,
- 14:30Speaker 1: you build yourself up from somewhere, right? And to be fair, they, well,
- 14:34Speaker 1: my company, which is MediaCorp that I'm working on right now,
- 14:38Speaker 1: working with right now, um, you know, they've actually given
- 14:42Speaker 1: me a lot of opportunities over the past, what, like
- 14:44Speaker 1: my entire career, right? So you, you grow, and in
- 14:47Speaker 1: any industry, that's the same, you know, you start somewhere,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you grow.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And whether or not it's the kind of pay that
- 14:52Speaker 1: you expect, I think the, the most important thing is
- 14:55Speaker 1: to not try and compare too much with your friends,
- 14:58Speaker 1: especially if you're from different industries. Every industry has, you know,
- 15:02Speaker 1: varying starting pays, so I will say that, yeah. If
- 15:06Speaker 1: you are graduating or maybe this year could be a
- 15:08Speaker 1: final year of graduating very soon, or maybe this took
- 15:11Speaker 1: you back to the time where you just graduated and
- 15:13Speaker 1: you started work, well, yeah, just a walk down memory lane.
- 15:16Speaker 1: And here's hoping that if you're getting out of school
- 15:17Speaker 1: very soon, you are going to get your dream job.
- 15:21Speaker 1: 87.
- 15:26Speaker 1: What's that sound?
- 15:30Speaker 1: What's your name, bro? Shal. Hello Sharyl. How are you doing? Oh,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I'm good. I'm on the way to work right now.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I can hear that. I can hear that. How have
- 15:40Speaker 1: the Hari Raya celebrations been so far for you and
- 15:42Speaker 1: your family? Well,
- 15:45Speaker 1: Well planned. OK, very nice. OK, well, you know, this
- 15:50Speaker 1: is your chance to walk away with $7000 and I'm
- 15:52Speaker 1: sure that you want to treat your family to something
- 15:54Speaker 1: nice or maybe even travel and stuff. So listen very
- 15:57Speaker 1: carefully and you tell me what you think this sound is.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 16:02Speaker 1: OK, Sharul, for 70, what's your answer? A counter clicker.
- 16:06Speaker 1: A counter clicker is your final answer. OK, let's find out.
- 16:12Speaker 1: You are incorrect. Your chance to play 987's secret sound continues.
- 16:20Speaker 1: That sound.
- 16:22Speaker 1: My man, that's unfortunately not the right answer, and I
- 16:24Speaker 1: feel like it might have been said before, but it's OK.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Since you managed to call through this week, your name
- 16:31Speaker 1: still goes into the big grand draw and we'll see
- 16:33Speaker 1: you this Saturday, OK? OK, thank you. You are most welcome.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Have a great day. Bye-bye.
- 16:41Speaker 1: One guess win.
- 16:48Speaker 1: OK, opening up phone lines, 669-11987. As you know, this
- 16:52Speaker 1: entire week, every day we've got a pair of tickets
- 16:55Speaker 1: to Lebei's sold-out show.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Yeah, we're so excited to be there and we want
- 17:00Speaker 1: to see you there too. So big, big, big thank you.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Lots of love to our friends from UOB for making
- 17:05Speaker 1: this possible. They always want to be at the forefront
- 17:08Speaker 1: of bringing you to your favorite experiences, you know, exclusive, um, showcases, artists, concerts, yeah, everything. We,
- 17:16Speaker 1: we got you. So that's why 987 and UOB are
- 17:18Speaker 1: so aligned, right? So we'd love to see you there. Now,
- 17:21Speaker 1: every day this week, we're inspired by uh a Luebe song,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and we'll use some of our tracks.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And her song titles to create conversations here on air.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So today, we're focusing on Mr. Eclectic. Now, look, I've
- 17:35Speaker 1: dated a fair share of people where, you know, we
- 17:37Speaker 1: all have our quirks and our various qualities, sometimes qualities
- 17:42Speaker 1: with open inverted commas because some people just can't tolerate
- 17:45Speaker 1: certain qualities about others, right? And you only figure this
- 17:48Speaker 1: out as you go along or you start to get
- 17:50Speaker 1: to know a person more, maybe you even start holidaying
- 17:53Speaker 1: with this person, living with this person, then you start
- 17:55Speaker 1: to see.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Certain things that uh could be deal breakers, could be
- 17:59Speaker 1: something that you're OK with, like maybe you can live
- 18:02Speaker 1: with and you can accommodate, or maybe some certain things
- 18:05Speaker 1: you're totally aligned, right? So, it could be a mixture
- 18:08Speaker 1: of all of these. So give me a call, 669-11987
- 18:13Speaker 1: or drop me a WhatsApp message, 90050987.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Has there ever been a time where you dated someone
- 18:21Speaker 1: or went out with someone and there was something about
- 18:24Speaker 1: this person, a habit, um, a negative quality or just
- 18:28Speaker 1: something that you couldn't deal with? It was a deal
- 18:30Speaker 1: breaker for you. Let me know, 669-11987. If you want
- 18:35Speaker 1: to have some fun with it.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Have a laugh or maybe if you want to tell me,
- 18:38Speaker 1: there's nothing at all. I love my partner. We are
- 18:41Speaker 1: completely aligned. We have no differences at all. You can
- 18:44Speaker 1: also tell me about that, OK? But if there are
- 18:46Speaker 1: little quirks and, you know, eclectic things about your partner
- 18:50Speaker 1: or maybe someone that you dated previously, you want to
- 18:52Speaker 1: share about that.
- 18:53Speaker 1: You could have a good laugh about now. Let me know,
- 18:56Speaker 1: 669-11987 and that pair of tickets to Lei Bei's sold-out
- 19:01Speaker 1: show here in Singapore could very well be yours. I
- 19:04Speaker 1: would love to hear these stories. Conversations inspired by Lei
- 19:07Speaker 1: Bei's tracks here this morning and we're talking about Mr. Eclectic,
- 19:11Speaker 1: her track, you might recognize it. Sounds like this.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And no matter how you take this song, you know, you,
- 19:20Speaker 1: you can have different perceptions of it, you can take
- 19:22Speaker 1: it differently, but to me, I wanted to open up
- 19:25Speaker 1: phone lines here today to find out, are there certain
- 19:27Speaker 1: quirks about people that are deal breakers for you, or
- 19:31Speaker 1: have you had an experience before where, you know, maybe
- 19:34Speaker 1: the person that you were dating has
- 19:36Speaker 1: Certain eccentricities that you're like, OK, this is not for me.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I think this is not a relationship I can be in.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Let me know, 669-11987 and 90050987 for your messages if
- 19:48Speaker 1: you would like. OK, so we're gonna head to our
- 19:51Speaker 1: messages first, uh, before we head to the phone lines,
- 19:53Speaker 1: so we've actually got Jenny hanging on the line. Um,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm not quite sure whether you want me to say
- 19:58Speaker 1: your name here text-wise, but oh.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you left your name. It's Al. You said, we
- 20:03Speaker 1: went to a nice cozy restaurant near Hajji Lane, and
- 20:06Speaker 1: he offered to pay. I didn't expect that. I was
- 20:10Speaker 1: prepared to go Dutch. So I said, order and we
- 20:13Speaker 1: could share. Um, he ordered 2 to 3 dishes to
- 20:15Speaker 1: share and 2 cocktails. Towards the end of the dates, um,
- 20:19Speaker 1: my date actually took out the iPad and asked if
- 20:22Speaker 1: I wanted to see new policies her company has to offer.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Oh no.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I was so shocked. My mouth was like open and
- 20:29Speaker 1: my jaw was on the ground when she tried to
- 20:31Speaker 1: sell me some insurance policy. After one hour, she realized,
- 20:35Speaker 1: I'm not gonna sign anything and uh she just left.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Like she just packed her stuff, maam, like finished exams already,
- 20:41Speaker 1: didn't even say bye, and I paid almost 90 bucks
- 20:44Speaker 1: for dinner, LOL. Oh no. Actually, I wish Joakim were
- 20:47Speaker 1: here for this because he had the same experience with
- 20:50Speaker 1: a girl.
- 20:51Speaker 1: That, um, you know, I, I think he told me
- 20:54Speaker 1: this story. I'm vaguely telling it right now, but he
- 20:56Speaker 1: mentioned that, you know, it's quite a cute girl, you know,
- 20:58Speaker 1: they talk on and off and um this was a
- 21:00Speaker 1: few years ago already, and they reconnected because they met
- 21:03Speaker 1: at some, I don't know, like work thing or some event,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and she actually said, hey, like, let's catch up, and
- 21:08Speaker 1: he thought it was, you know, like a genuine catch
- 21:10Speaker 1: up or maybe even, you know, something casual to get
- 21:12Speaker 1: to know her, but if I'm not wrong,
- 21:15Speaker 1: He didn't know that she was in insurance at that
- 21:17Speaker 1: point in time. She had just started like part-timing or
- 21:20Speaker 1: freelancing and she also pulled out the iPad and
- 21:24Speaker 1: Tried to get him to buy insurance. Oh gosh, this is, yeah, yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 1: it has happened more than just to more than just
- 21:32Speaker 1: uh UL, so you're not alone on this. When we
- 21:35Speaker 1: come back, we've actually got some callers hanging on the line. Uh,
- 21:39Speaker 1: good to hear from Jenny as well and more messages
- 21:41Speaker 1: to read out, very, very interesting ones. Please stay tuned.
- 21:45Speaker 1: We are giving away concert tickets to Love's sold-out show.
- 21:50Speaker 1: And today's conversation is inspired by her track Mr. Eclectic.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Any interesting quirks about people that you feel are deal
- 21:58Speaker 1: breakers or maybe through your own experience, dating them, and
- 22:01Speaker 1: you felt like, OK, I really can't deal with this quality,
- 22:03Speaker 1: open inverted commas, quality of this person or these quirks that,
- 22:07Speaker 1: you know, I don't think I can be in this
- 22:08Speaker 1: relationship or on the flip side, have you never experienced that?
- 22:12Speaker 1: Like in your current relationship, you're feeling
- 22:14Speaker 1: You know what, we complement each other perfectly. We don't
- 22:16Speaker 1: butt heads on anything. Yeah, I would love to hear
- 22:19Speaker 1: your stories. Um, you can still send me messages 90050987.
- 22:24Speaker 1: There's still time for you to call me 669-11987. But
- 22:28Speaker 1: first we have Jenny. Jenny, what about you?
- 22:32Speaker 2: Uh, I had one,
- 22:33Speaker 2: and, uh, it was also because I was an idiot.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I was dating two people at the same time. And, uh,
- 22:41Speaker 2: because of that, I think I, I sent one to
- 22:43Speaker 2: the brink of, uh, well, he, he hid in a drain.
- 22:48Speaker 2: That was then I thought, OK, this
- 22:50Speaker 2: is it. Wait,
- 22:51Speaker 1: can I just clarify, he hid in a drain?
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yes, he did. I
- 22:55Speaker 1: thought it was metaphorical for a moment. OK, wait, can
- 22:57Speaker 1: you please just give us some context like what happened?
- 23:00Speaker 2: Why did he hide in the drain?
- 23:02Speaker 2: I think because he was, he was.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Really upset and uh my friend called me and he
- 23:07Speaker 2: told me he's hiding in the dream and I'm like,
- 23:09Speaker 2: what?
- 23:10Speaker 1: Oh my God. So that was his, um, it was
- 23:12Speaker 1: a reaction, like his reaction to finding out, OK, OK. Yeah,
- 23:16Speaker 2: because I,
- 23:16Speaker 2: I was one of a kind then also.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Girlfriend, I feel you. I know you. I mean, I,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think we've all been there, maybe not all of us,
- 23:25Speaker 1: but I personally feel you and um, you know, in
- 23:28Speaker 1: the past when we, when we dated and, you know,
- 23:31Speaker 1: we're impressionable, we're younger, we're more immature, we don't really
- 23:34Speaker 1: think of other people's feelings in that moment, right? I
- 23:37Speaker 2: think we
- 23:38Speaker 2: like maybe 1020
- 23:40Speaker 2: years ago.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Yes, yes,
- 23:41Speaker 2: yes.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Oh, girl, if it was 10-ish years ago, I can
- 23:45Speaker 1: name a couple of interesting characters I dated.
- 23:48Speaker 1: And you know what, at the end of the day,
- 23:50Speaker 1: sometimes I wonder, am I the interesting character? Like sometimes
- 23:53Speaker 1: I could be. We're talking about the little quirks that
- 23:57Speaker 1: you may have accepted or maybe those were deal breakers
- 24:01Speaker 1: in a relationship or someone that you dated before.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Um, really interesting stories coming through. We, we have a
- 24:06Speaker 1: voice note coming through from Jay, but I, I'm not
- 24:08Speaker 1: sure if you want me to say your name, so
- 24:09Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go with the initial Jay. And TLDR
- 24:13Speaker 1: Jay told me that she was dating this tall, handsome
- 24:17Speaker 1: man years ago, and everything was perfect. Like he checked
- 24:21Speaker 1: all the boxes, he was great on paper, nice to
- 24:23Speaker 1: look at, you know, just handsome. Everyone thought he was cute,
- 24:27Speaker 1: and she introduced him to his, uh, some of her colleagues, right?
- 24:31Speaker 1: And without her knowledge, he actually got the numbers of
- 24:35Speaker 1: two of her colleagues and apparently started asking them out
- 24:39Speaker 1: as well, and they all did not know. So, all
- 24:43Speaker 1: 3 of them were played basically, and he was not
- 24:45Speaker 1: just 2 timing, he was 3 timing. So, when she
- 24:49Speaker 1: found out, she actually confronted the colleagues and to which
- 24:51Speaker 1: they said, I had no idea that
- 24:53Speaker 1: You know, he was going out with the 22 other
- 24:56Speaker 1: people because his story that he crafted to them was, oh, no, no, no,
- 25:00Speaker 1: they're just friends or just like platonic, but mm mm,
- 25:04Speaker 1: this guy got busted, to which I replied to her
- 25:06Speaker 1: and I said, we got so much time? Like 2
- 25:09Speaker 1: timing is already bad enough in terms of like sorting
- 25:12Speaker 1: out your schedule. How on earth do you 3 times?
- 25:14Speaker 1: That's a skill right there. Not that I'm, not that
- 25:17Speaker 1: I'm condoning it, just saying, how on earth do you
- 25:19Speaker 1: have the time?
- 25:20Speaker 1: OK, when we come back, we've got more callers coming
- 25:22Speaker 1: on and uh more messages too. I believe one coming
- 25:26Speaker 1: in from Q.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And also, um, HY, OK, I'm going with your initials
- 25:32Speaker 1: here today just in case because some of these stories
- 25:34Speaker 1: can be quite spicy. OK, heading back to our messages
- 25:37Speaker 1: and then phone calls, um, all this inspired by Lee
- 25:40Speaker 1: Wei's Mr. Eclectic. I asked you, has there been someone
- 25:43Speaker 1: that you dated before with a really interesting quirk, something
- 25:47Speaker 1: that was either a deal breaker or maybe you felt, hm, OK,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I can, I can deal with it. It's fine.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Um, going to messages for saying hi to HY, you said, hey, Sonia.
- 25:56Speaker 1: There was a date who always used the word basically
- 26:00Speaker 1: in almost every sentence. Initially, it didn't register in my head,
- 26:04Speaker 1: but the more we chatted, the more I kept hearing basically, basically,
- 26:07Speaker 1: basically from her. It basically felt like I'm listening to
- 26:10Speaker 1: a broken.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Broken recorder, stuck on the word basically. Needless to say,
- 26:15Speaker 1: that was basically a deal breaker for me. I basically
- 26:19Speaker 1: couldn't stand it and strangely enough, her words and voice
- 26:22Speaker 1: lingered in my head for days and posting it now,
- 26:25Speaker 1: sending this message to you basically reminded me about the
- 26:28Speaker 1: word all over again.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I love that message. I said, actually in our industry,
- 26:34Speaker 1: we call that a crutch word. Whenever you find yourself
- 26:36Speaker 1: filling up, you know, empty spaces or silences with a
- 26:39Speaker 1: certain word, the most common words are like, basically is
- 26:43Speaker 1: one of them. I think apparently could be one of
- 26:47Speaker 1: them as well. I don't know. There are many different
- 26:48Speaker 1: crutch words, right? But it was hilarious. Thank you so
- 26:51Speaker 1: much for sharing that. Ivana's on the line as well.
- 26:53Speaker 1: What about you?
- 26:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so, um, I thought of my husband, who, I mean,
- 26:58Speaker 2: I know he loves seafood, but I was
- 27:00Speaker 2: So surprised when I, we went out for a family
- 27:02Speaker 2: dinner and get the whole fish. He basically cleaned the
- 27:06Speaker 2: whole fish. You know how, I mean, we eat with
- 27:09Speaker 2: our hands and stuff, but then he cleaned, he will
- 27:10Speaker 2: eat all the meat, then the bones are left on
- 27:12Speaker 2: his plate, clean, basically the bone.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So
- 27:18Speaker 2: he's
- 27:18Speaker 1: got, he's kind of got a skill there. He's like
- 27:21Speaker 1: your official fish deboner in your family.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, correct. So he learned it from his mom.
- 27:29Speaker 1: OK, so this is a quirk that you never realized
- 27:33Speaker 1: until I guess you guys got together and stuff. But
- 27:36Speaker 1: this is a positive one. I mean, for once, it's
- 27:38Speaker 1: not a negative trait. It's good, right?
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he's officially spoiled you, you know, so
- 27:45Speaker 1: you can't eat fish with with anyone else anymore.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:51Speaker 2: So I'm like, if I go to restaurants, uh, buffets,
- 27:53Speaker 2: and I feel like, oh, there's like prawns and I
- 27:56Speaker 2: think he'll he'll peel it for me as well.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Oh,
- 27:58Speaker 1: you see, this is what a relationship is about.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your call, Ivana. You have
- 28:04Speaker 1: a great day,
- 28:05Speaker 2: OK? Thank you. You too. Alright, bye-bye.
- 28:08Speaker 1: What entertaining stories we've had this morning. Thank you so
- 28:11Speaker 1: much for that. Whether it was a message, a call,
- 28:13Speaker 1: or a voice note, I really appreciate you, but only
- 28:16Speaker 1: one person can walk away with this incredible experience today.
- 28:19Speaker 1: By the way, it's the second to last chance for
- 28:21Speaker 1: you to score those Leibei concert tickets to a sold-out
- 28:25Speaker 1: tour here in Singapore. So we're very, very excited that.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Our friends over at UOB, they've managed to get some
- 28:31Speaker 1: tickets just for us. So, UOB card members can enjoy
- 28:34Speaker 1: priority access to some of the hottest entertainment acts in
- 28:37Speaker 1: the region, and that's why we're so aligned with that
- 28:40Speaker 1: here on 987 because on the shock circuit as well
- 28:42Speaker 1: and our station, we want to take you closest to
- 28:45Speaker 1: your favorite stars. So Levi's A Matter of Time tour
- 28:48Speaker 1: is happening on the 19th of May, just a little
- 28:50Speaker 1: over a month left to go at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And it's my pleasure to say that today's prize goes
- 28:57Speaker 1: to HY. Congratulations, HY.
- 29:02Speaker 1: You are today's winner for that pair of Cat 3
- 29:05Speaker 1: tickets worth $436. Make yourself free on the 19th of May. Really,
- 29:11Speaker 1: really hope to see you there. For more information, please
- 29:14Speaker 1: visit www.UB.com.sg. Coming up in just a bit, aside from
- 29:19Speaker 1: food news, well, something you might have missed earlier on,
- 29:21Speaker 1: I made sure it was a public service announcement because
- 29:24Speaker 1: we've got a few weeks to prepare for this. 22nd
- 29:27Speaker 1: and 23rd of April. These are the dates you have
- 29:30Speaker 1: to lock in.
- 29:31Speaker 1: OK, because why? This incident, or rather this occurrence is
- 29:36Speaker 1: going to happen only once every 60 years, 60. So
- 29:40Speaker 1: for a lot of us, this may be the only
- 29:42Speaker 1: chance that we get to catch it in our lives
- 29:45Speaker 1: because in another 60 years, I mean, I'm really not
- 29:50Speaker 1: sure if I can even be walking around anymore, OK?
- 29:53Speaker 1: Can I go first with Khaled and Griffin. I'll share
- 29:55Speaker 1: more with you in just a bit and why you
- 29:57Speaker 1: must lock 22nd and 23rd of April down. But of course, um,
- 30:02Speaker 1: if you've missed it, this is gonna be quite an
- 30:05Speaker 1: event of the year. In fact, it's not gonna happen
- 30:07Speaker 1: for another 60 years, so you better lock it in.
- 30:10Speaker 1: 22nd and 23rd of April of this year, OK?
- 30:15Speaker 1: A meteor shower is going to be visible in Singaporeans,
- 30:18Speaker 1: in Singapore skies, and this is known as the Lyritz
- 30:22Speaker 1: meteor shower, only happening once every 60 years. What happens
- 30:26Speaker 1: is you can expect to see about 10 to 20
- 30:29Speaker 1: m traversing the night sky per hour. Can you imagine that?
- 30:33Speaker 1: How crazy is that?
- 30:34Speaker 1: I don't even know whether Singapore is not really known
- 30:37Speaker 1: to be a good ideal location for like stargazing, for example, right?
- 30:41Speaker 1: Because from what I know, we've got a lot of
- 30:43Speaker 1: light pollution simply because we're a city, and we've got
- 30:46Speaker 1: a lot of buildings and for most of us, if
- 30:49Speaker 1: you notice at night, if you live in apartment blocks or,
- 30:52Speaker 1: you know, places that are quite dense, you will see
- 30:55Speaker 1: that the sky is not very dark. So as a result,
- 30:58Speaker 1: you can't really see stars, right?
- 31:00Speaker 1: Versus when I was in New Zealand, for example, it's
- 31:04Speaker 1: really just open fields, open land, you know, you've got
- 31:07Speaker 1: your mountains, there's no one staying around there, there's no
- 31:11Speaker 1: high-rise buildings. So at night, you know, you're always greeted
- 31:14Speaker 1: with a blanket of stars in most parts of New Zealand.
- 31:17Speaker 1: That's the beauty.
- 31:18Speaker 1: of it and there are even points, certain points in
- 31:20Speaker 1: New Zealand where they recommend for the best stargazing experience.
- 31:23Speaker 1: In Arizona, I had that as well. Oh, it was
- 31:25Speaker 1: so beautiful. Don't think I'll ever witness that again in
- 31:28Speaker 1: this part of the world, unfortunately, but 23rd to 22nd
- 31:32Speaker 1: to 23rd of April of this year, it will be
- 31:36Speaker 1: the brightest. Now, the meter shower will be active between
- 31:39Speaker 1: 17th to 26th of April, but I think 22nd, 23rd
- 31:44Speaker 1: were locked in as the most ideal one for Singapore.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Um, best viewed after 11 p.m. So if there's any
- 31:50Speaker 1: reason at all that you want to stay out late,
- 31:53Speaker 1: use this as a reason, OK? Tell your parents like, I,
- 31:55Speaker 1: I need to catch the meteor shower, it's not gonna
- 31:57Speaker 1: happen again in the next 60 years, but observers, you
- 32:01Speaker 1: should seek darker locations, according to our experts, parks, beaches, reservoirs,
- 32:06Speaker 1: open spaces far away from the city lights. So, uh,
- 32:10Speaker 1: preferably facing the east as well.
- 32:13Speaker 1: How to know where I'm facing actually. Maybe I need
- 32:14Speaker 1: a compass or does iPhone have that? I'm hopeless when
- 32:18Speaker 1: it comes to this. Don't ask me to navigate anything, OK?
- 32:21Speaker 1: I rely on GPS and like we mentioned yesterday, it
- 32:24Speaker 1: was a gentle reminder that um yesterday you had just
- 32:27Speaker 1: 12 hours left to leave your comment for that Disney
- 32:31Speaker 1: adventure bundle, his or hers bundle. So we're giving away
- 32:34Speaker 1: both separately, 2 winners. Uh, we're gonna go through all
- 32:37Speaker 1: the comments very, very soon because they're like.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Over 600 comments, unique comments actually. So it's going to
- 32:42Speaker 1: be quite a rough one. But as of this morning,
- 32:46Speaker 1: I have shortlisted a few. I think Joakim has, has
- 32:49Speaker 1: shortlisted some of his favorites as well. So we're going
- 32:51Speaker 1: to take the weekend to really just read through the
- 32:54Speaker 1: ones that we shortlisted and see if we can come
- 32:55Speaker 1: to an agreement. It's so challenging, you guys, like I,
- 32:59Speaker 1: I swear, like, when it comes down to picking.
- 33:02Speaker 1: A good comments from a pool of really great comments
- 33:05Speaker 1: and how you pick the best one. That's just, yeah, it,
- 33:07Speaker 1: it gives us a bit of a headache. Maybe that's
- 33:09Speaker 1: why Joakim got migraine today. He didn't come for work.
- 33:13Speaker 1: He was stressed about that, maybe. So, um, the winner
- 33:16Speaker 1: will be revealed at the start of next week. Thank
- 33:19Speaker 1: you so much for your love in the comments. Coming
- 33:21Speaker 1: up in just a few minutes, this is related to
- 33:23Speaker 1: food news, OK? And it particularly pertains to people living
- 33:26Speaker 1: over in the Ang Mo Kio area.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Have you ever felt a little bit cheated, like, you know,
- 33:31Speaker 1: an announcement was made and then you felt really strongly
- 33:34Speaker 1: about it, and after that they backtrack and say, oh,
- 33:36Speaker 1: actually it's not happening anymore. Well, this is what's going
- 33:40Speaker 1: on in Ang Mo Kio right now. I'll tell you more,
- 33:42Speaker 1: but it's a good spin because now I think it's
- 33:45Speaker 1: become a positive piece of news. OK, it's time for
- 33:48Speaker 1: some food news, and this is particularly applicable to you
- 33:51Speaker 1: if you live in the Ang Mo Kio area.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Now, I've never lived in Ang Mo Kio, but I
- 33:55Speaker 1: had some aunties who did, uh, in the past, and
- 33:58Speaker 1: from what I understand, yeah, there's plenty of stuff there,
- 34:00Speaker 1: you know, you've got a lot of amenities, a lot
- 34:02Speaker 1: of food, but perhaps if you stay near Ang Mo
- 34:05Speaker 1: Kio Avenue One, you might be one of those that
- 34:09Speaker 1: would frequent this coffee shop very often. I mean, all
- 34:11Speaker 1: I know is that it's called Ang Mo Kio Avenue
- 34:13Speaker 1: One Coffee Shop, and previously, it was announced that they
- 34:17Speaker 1: were closing.
- 34:18Speaker 1: So I think clearly there were a lot of mixed reactions.
- 34:21Speaker 1: People were like, why, why, why, why is it closing?
- 34:23Speaker 1: It's a Sin Foodie Coffee Shop, by the way, Block 215. Um,
- 34:28Speaker 1: and it was set to close on the 15th of April. So,
- 34:32Speaker 1: I think initially, the operator made the decision to close
- 34:35Speaker 1: due to issues with um certain areas. The outdoor refreshment
- 34:39Speaker 1: area was one of them.
- 34:40Speaker 1: And he informed the store owners about it at the
- 34:42Speaker 1: end of March. He and the landlord apparently were supposedly
- 34:46Speaker 1: continuing negotiations, and the good news is, they finally managed
- 34:50Speaker 1: to settle the issue in a friendly way, just a
- 34:54Speaker 1: couple of days back and they allowed the coffee shop
- 34:56Speaker 1: to continue operating. Yay.
- 34:59Speaker 1: So I think just some, you know, inspections required and
- 35:02Speaker 1: uh certain other things they, they need to settle before
- 35:06Speaker 1: they actually continue, but it's been peacefully resolved, really good. Um, however,
- 35:10Speaker 1: some of the store owners, I think they've got mixed reactions.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Most of them have decided to stay. I think.
- 35:16Speaker 1: actually, all the tenants said that they'll be staying, including
- 35:19Speaker 1: a very popular uh Mukata stall, even though they already
- 35:21Speaker 1: found another space. But I guess if they already built
- 35:24Speaker 1: like a following and a fan base there, right, it
- 35:27Speaker 1: would be far easier to continue building the business in,
- 35:30Speaker 1: in that area that you already know is good. But
- 35:33Speaker 1: I think um the landlord has said we're trying our
- 35:35Speaker 1: best to compensate the tenants, you know, so um that
- 35:38Speaker 1: that's always a good thing.
- 35:39Speaker 1: So great news to our friends who live very near
- 35:42Speaker 1: this Ang Mo Kio um Avenue One coffee shop. I
- 35:45Speaker 1: know how it feels like to have something that has
- 35:48Speaker 1: been convenient for you for years and years. Some people
- 35:50Speaker 1: may have stayed there their whole lives, you know, and
- 35:52Speaker 1: they're used to it. They made friends with a coffee
- 35:54Speaker 1: shop auntie, uncle, whatever.
- 35:56Speaker 1: To have that ripped away from you always feels like,
- 35:59Speaker 1: you know, a tragedy, and um I felt that way too,
- 36:03Speaker 1: when some of the store owners from certain coffee shops or,
- 36:06Speaker 1: you know, places that have been there for very long,
- 36:08Speaker 1: and when they decide to close, I'm like, no, this
- 36:11Speaker 1: is part of my daily routine. What will I do now?
- 36:13Speaker 1: I'll feel so lost. I'm sure you might feel that
- 36:16Speaker 1: way about your kopitiam auntie who makes your coffee every
- 36:19Speaker 1: morning or like sells you breakfast, right? It's almost like
- 36:22Speaker 1: your family at some point.
- 36:24Speaker 1: OK, well, great news then. So if you live near
- 36:26Speaker 1: the Ang Mo Kio area and you are rejoicing about this,
- 36:28Speaker 1: drop me a message, let me know. And like we
- 36:30Speaker 1: mentioned yesterday, it was a gentle reminder that um yesterday
- 36:34Speaker 1: you had just 12 hours left to leave your comment
- 36:37Speaker 1: for that Disney adventure bundle, his or hers bundle. So
- 36:41Speaker 1: we're giving away both separately, 2 winners. Uh, we're gonna
- 36:44Speaker 1: go through all the comments very, very soon because.
- 36:46Speaker 1: There are like over 600 comments, unique comments actually, so
- 36:50Speaker 1: it's going to be quite a rough one. But as
- 36:52Speaker 1: of this morning, I have shortlisted a few. I think
- 36:55Speaker 1: Joakim has has shortlisted some of his favorites as well.
- 36:59Speaker 1: So we're going to take the weekend to really just
- 37:01Speaker 1: read through the ones that we shortlisted and see if
- 37:02Speaker 1: we can come to an agreement. It's so challenging, you guys,
- 37:06Speaker 1: like I, I swear, like, when it comes down to picking.
- 37:09Speaker 1: A good comments from a pool of really great comments
- 37:13Speaker 1: and how you pick the best one. That's just, yeah, it,
- 37:15Speaker 1: it gives us a bit of a headache. Maybe that's
- 37:17Speaker 1: why Joakim got migraine today. He didn't come for work.
- 37:20Speaker 1: He was stressed about that, maybe. So, um, the winner
- 37:23Speaker 1: will be revealed at the start of next week. Thank
- 37:26Speaker 1: you so much for your love in the comments. Well,
- 37:29Speaker 1: thank you for joining me this morning. I was solo.
- 37:31Speaker 1: It was fun.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And if you want to catch up with the best
- 37:33Speaker 1: bits of our show, it's on me Listen and Spotify
- 37:35Speaker 1: after we wrap it up. And it's a bit of a,
- 37:38Speaker 1: it seems like it's a bit of a gray cold morning.
- 37:40Speaker 1: In fact, because of my laziness, I did not go
- 37:42Speaker 1: back down to my car to grab my jacket. I
- 37:44Speaker 1: forgot it this morning. So I was like, OK, at,
- 37:47Speaker 1: at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., I'm gonna go down, but
- 37:49Speaker 1: it never happened. I just got too busy on the show,
- 37:51Speaker 1: so I've just been freezing the entire, the entire 4 hours.
- 37:55Speaker 1: So I really thank you for the laughter that kept
- 37:57Speaker 1: me warm this morning. I hope that you had as
- 37:59Speaker 1: much fun as I did. I'll catch you tomorrow at
- 38:01Speaker 1: 6:00 a.m.
