SPEAKER_01: It's interesting that the people in here is coming.
• 0:15
  SPEAKER_00: So addictive.
• 0:22
SPEAKER_05: I mean if you like a crazy girlfriend, get the R.
• 0:24
SPEAKER_02: Which Porsche is best for you, the 718 Spider or the Spider RS?
• 0:28
  SPEAKER_02: So get this.
• 0:29
  SPEAKER_02: We're not journalists, we're owners.
• 0:31
SPEAKER_02: I've owned my uh Porsche 718 Spider since November of uh 2020.
• 0:36
SPEAKER_02: I bought it brand new.
• 0:37
  SPEAKER_02: Rich?
• 0:38
SPEAKER_05: I got this one uh used from Alberta.
• 0:40
SPEAKER_05: I think I've had it for about three years now.
• 0:42
SPEAKER_02: So this isn't a manual versus PVK automatic debate.
• 0:45
SPEAKER_02: This is about two cars that both have the same uh transmission philosophy, but two very different engines.
• 0:51
SPEAKER_02: Now, Rich and I have both done road trips in these cars.
• 0:54
SPEAKER_02: We've sat in traffic, we've paid the bills, we've replaced tires, we've done track days, and we've had those maintenance bills.
• 1:01
SPEAKER_02: In this video, we're gonna be comparing the cost, the sounds that these cars make, the excitement they generate by driving them when we swap cars a little bit later on in the video.
• 1:09
SPEAKER_02: But we'll also be talking about the specs, the day-to-day livability.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_02: We're also going to be comparing those very controversial tops.
• 1:16
SPEAKER_02: So today, no press fleets, no PR spin, just two actual uh Porsche spider owners comparing the spider to the spider RS.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_02: So by the end of this video, you'll know exactly which spider would be best for you, and uh, hopefully I know which spider also will be best for me and for Rich.
• 1:33
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we'll figure it out.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_05: Alright, well let's start with a visual comparison on the differences that distinguish the Porsche Spider to the Porsche Spider RS.
• 1:41
SPEAKER_05: Um, this is essentially a DT4 from the belt line down.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_05: Uh just no top, obviously, with the boxter version or the RS version of the spider.
• 1:50
SPEAKER_05: Um, there's a little bit more in the way of arrow in the front.
• 1:52
SPEAKER_05: You can see plastic bits and pieces over here a little bit different.
• 1:56
SPEAKER_05: Uh the lip is a little bit smaller on the spider versus the RS.
• 2:00
SPEAKER_05: Looks like these grills are nearly identical along with this.
• 2:03
SPEAKER_05: We have venting over here, got NACA ducts, got pressure release ducts over here over the wheel well.
• 2:09
SPEAKER_05: Uh the wheels and tires are exactly the same size.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_05: I was actually interested to notice that.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_05: 245s, same thing on the RS.
• 2:16
SPEAKER_05: Um, these normally come with cup style tires from Porsche.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_05: I swapped them out for the uh Pilot Sport 4S, uh, just because I do a lot of road trips and rallies, so um I didn't really need the extra grip.
• 2:28
SPEAKER_05: Uh these are extremely lightweight.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_05: I don't know what the difference is in weight between the two, but these are supposed to be a little bit lighter.
• 2:34
SPEAKER_05: Uh coming down the side, you have a little bit of a pressure relief area over here, which the spider doesn't have.
• 2:40
SPEAKER_05: This is kind of like uh a la GT3 RS sort of build.
• 2:44
SPEAKER_05: Uh a little bit of carbon fiber over here.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_05: You notice the intake for the engine and uh cooling.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_05: It's got a slightly larger intake portion versus the spider over here.
• 2:56
SPEAKER_05: Um of course have the very loud induction, which you'll hear on this video, which is literally just over your shoulder.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_05: Um, and that is what draws air into the engine.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_05: Uh the spider, I'm sure, probably takes it in from one of these intake areas over here.
• 3:12
SPEAKER_05: And then coming around to the back, the duck tail on the RS is significantly bigger than this one.
• 3:19
SPEAKER_05: And if I'm not mistaken, this one pops up on the spider.
• 3:21
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it does.
• 3:22
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, okay.
• 3:22
SPEAKER_05: And then just coming around to the back, uh I know that the muffler section is nearly identical, but it does look like the diffuser is almost the same, if I'm not mistaken.
• 3:33
SPEAKER_05: They look about the same size, it's almost the same diffuser from my angle.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_05: And that's about the biggest differences that you'll get between the two cars visually front to back.
• 3:42
SPEAKER_05: Do you have front axle lift?
• 3:43
SPEAKER_05: I do not, and I've never ever thought that I've ever needed it.
• 3:46
SPEAKER_05: So you can save your money and not order that piece.
• 3:48
SPEAKER_02: Alright, so let's talk about uh the interiors of these two beasts.
• 3:51
SPEAKER_02: So the interiors are very, very similar between them.
• 3:55
SPEAKER_02: The biggest difference, of course, are the the carbon buckets that uh Rich has in his car, which which were um available on my car.
• 4:03
SPEAKER_02: Um I'm quite a bit older than Rich, and uh and I need uh lumbar support and uh and some other support with the car.
• 4:10
SPEAKER_02: So I went with uh the comfy seats or the couch seats that some people might call it, they're the 18 ways.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_02: Um biggest disappointment with the 18 ways is they have no memory function in them, which uh they definitely should have, in my opinion.
• 4:24
SPEAKER_02: Um, but they work great.
• 4:26
SPEAKER_02: Um I can position the uh the side bolsters uh at the bottom of the seat and the back of the seat pretty well for track days.
• 4:32
SPEAKER_02: I don't find that I don't act I don't move around that much during track days, so I'm pleased with that.
• 4:38
SPEAKER_02: Also the race text, I just have racetech on the inserts of my seats and on the armrests.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_02: Rich has it on his car on the top of the dash and uh on the um uh on the armrest, and uh it probably came with race techs on the seats, but Rich has upgraded the interior of the car uh to these um uh P1 designs, is it?
• 5:04
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, a company called P1 designs down in the States.
• 5:06
SPEAKER_05: They all shuff them out to you, they're beautiful.
• 5:08
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and uh and he's also um being able to add uh lumbar support to it, and uh that uh definitely helps it.
• 5:15
SPEAKER_02: He's also got the red trim around, and uh and because Rich has the the VISOC package, you can see that uh that's highlighted on here too.
• 5:24
SPEAKER_02: Uh Rich's car has the um race tech uh steering wheel.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_02: I had a choice of getting race tech or the smooth leather.
• 5:31
SPEAKER_02: I just thought the smooth leather would be cleaner, and that's why I went with the smooth leather.
• 5:35
SPEAKER_02: What are your thoughts about the steering wheel?
• 5:37
SPEAKER_05: Um I like the race tech because it reduces the glare from the windshield.
• 5:41
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, because it's not shiny.
• 5:43
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's real nice.
• 5:44
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_02: So, Rich, before you bought your car, what did you think your car would be like uh compared to what it was actually like when you first received it?
• 5:51
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so like any other automotive enthusiast, I went on YouTube and watched every video I could find on them, getting excited as the car was being transported.
• 6:00
SPEAKER_05: It was pretty much what I expected.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_05: It's uh it's raw, it's connected, uh very visceral.
• 6:05
SPEAKER_05: I've driven a lot of very fast cars.
• 6:07
SPEAKER_05: I've had uh Audi R8, uh Porsche Turbo, McLaren 720s.
• 6:12
SPEAKER_05: This by far is the thing that really connects you to a road the most.
• 6:16
SPEAKER_05: Um I love road road style like rally trips.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_05: I'm not much of a track monkey, I've done some track days.
• 6:22
SPEAKER_05: Uh but for the roads and the twisties, like Tale of the Dragon, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Back of the Dragon, stuff like that, those really nice roads in the Appalachians in the States.
• 6:31
SPEAKER_05: Uh I don't think there's any other car that I'd rather be driving on those roads than the Spider RS.
• 6:35
SPEAKER_05: I did a video on my channel, I talked about how I thought it was probably the best road trip car in the world.
• 6:40
SPEAKER_05: Um, and there's nothing I've driven that I would say is better than this at this time.
• 6:44
SPEAKER_02: What's the name of your channel, Rich?
• 6:46
SPEAKER_05: Um Entrepreneurs and Cars is the main one, but I have my personal car channel now called just Richard Cooper.
• 6:51
  SPEAKER_05: Okay, great.
• 6:52
SPEAKER_02: We'll put links to that in the description down below.
• 6:54
  SPEAKER_02: Thanks.
• 6:54
  SPEAKER_02: Sounds great.
• 6:55
SPEAKER_02: So what after you've owned the car and you've owned the car now for a few years, um after you owned the car for a while, what surprised you most or what changed from your initial opinion of the car and maybe those um uh reviews that you read or saw ahead of time?
• 7:09
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the induction sound.
• 7:11
SPEAKER_05: The the intake sound of the induction is a lot louder than what I thought it would be.
• 7:15
  SPEAKER_05: Uh I've been.
• 7:16
SPEAKER_02: In a good way or in a bad way?
• 7:19
SPEAKER_05: Uh I mean it's good for short-term use, but if you're doing a five-day rally, it gets a little much.
• 7:24
SPEAKER_05: Uh I put sound-deadening foam when the top's up, you know, behind me to sort of mute the sound a little bit, podcast type of foam.
• 7:30
SPEAKER_05: I wear earplugs a lot of the times.
• 7:32
SPEAKER_02: I like the headset, Rich.
• 7:34
SPEAKER_05: We'll see how it goes, right?
• 7:36
SPEAKER_05: Uh from driving for an hour or so on end, uh, bouncing it off the red line, ripping like really nice roads.
• 7:42
SPEAKER_05: Uh the induction sounds a lot and you don't hear the exhaust note.
• 7:45
SPEAKER_05: So I've ordered a Klein and Canel exhaust for it because I figured it's already loud.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_05: I might as well go full loud uh and turn it right up to 17.
• 7:52
SPEAKER_05: Um but yeah, it's really just the induction sounds a lot more than what I thought it would be, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
• 7:58
SPEAKER_02: So, what about the theater?
• 7:59
SPEAKER_02: Does the theater wear off of that 9,000 RPM shriek?
• 8:03
SPEAKER_02: Or uh, you know, is it still exciting or does it become fatiguing kind of old school?
• 8:08
SPEAKER_05: No, you know, I would like I came from sport bikes.
• 8:10
SPEAKER_05: I used to ride motorcycles a lot when I was a young man because it's all I could afford.
• 8:14
SPEAKER_05: To me, this is the old man equivalent of a sport bike, right?
• 8:17
SPEAKER_05: There's no top, uh, you know, you got a real high red line, it makes a lot of noise, you get a lot of the visceral feel and connection of the road.
• 8:24
SPEAKER_05: The carbon bucket seats are a must in a car, like this, in my opinion, so you can feel everything in the butt too.
• 8:29
SPEAKER_05: Um, but yeah, it's it's an amazing car.
• 8:32
SPEAKER_02: So does the launch control in sport plus mode still get used after all these years, or does the novelty of using that uh kind of fade away?
• 8:39
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you use the launch control a couple times just to feel it out.
• 8:42
SPEAKER_05: I like the Porsche makes it easy.
• 8:43
SPEAKER_05: Break, gas, off the brake, off you go.
• 8:45
  SPEAKER_05: That's real straightforward.
• 8:46
SPEAKER_05: Other cars I've had in the past, you have to go through a ridiculous sequence of doing different things.
• 8:50
SPEAKER_05: Uh the sport button doesn't really make a huge difference.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_05: It just sort of tightens up the shifts a little bit and shifts a little bit higher in the RPM when you're running it in the automatic mode.
• 8:58
SPEAKER_05: Um, but yeah, that's pretty straightforward stuff.
• 9:01
SPEAKER_02: What about the daily usability, reality check, you know, in terms of traffic, parking, cold starts, cabin noise, long highway stints, speed bumps, steep driveways, all that kind of stuff.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_02: How does that factor in?
• 9:14
SPEAKER_05: All completely tolerable, uh with the exception of the intake noise over long periods of time when you're loading the engine up.
• 9:23
SPEAKER_05: So if you're cruising on the highway and you're not loading up the engine, the induction sounds fine.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_05: But when you're leaning into it and you're pushing the car hard, that's when it gets loud.
• 9:32
SPEAKER_05: And you know, you do that for prolonged periods of time.
• 9:34
SPEAKER_05: I keep earplugs in the car so they go in.
• 9:36
  SPEAKER_02: Got it.
• 9:37
SPEAKER_02: So on top of the front uh front fenders, it has these vents.
• 9:40
SPEAKER_02: You ever get stones or anything else coming through those?
• 9:43
SPEAKER_05: Uh no, I don't get a lot of sand or gravel or stones coming through those.
• 9:47
  SPEAKER_05: It's it's it's a pretty robust build.
• 9:49
SPEAKER_05: I mean, all of the all of the bits and pieces on the front over here, they're all plastic.
• 9:53
SPEAKER_05: And Porsche designs it that way so that you can pop them out and replace them when they get damaged.
• 9:57
SPEAKER_05: What about things like the stickers instead of having actual badges?
• 10:01
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it doesn't bother me at all.
• 10:02
SPEAKER_05: I mean the whole car is PPF front to back.
• 10:04
SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, it saves like RAM and you can brag about it to your buddies when they show up with a heavier badge.
• 10:11
  SPEAKER_05: Center lock wheels?
• 10:13
SPEAKER_05: I don't do any of the uh tire brake service, so it doesn't matter to me.
• 10:16
SPEAKER_05: Although my shop, when they changed the tires, they couldn't get the wheels off because they're torque so high with the center lock, so they had to have a Porsche technician come to them, uh release the center lock so they could swap the wheels out.
• 10:28
  SPEAKER_05: It's like the breaker bar's long.
• 10:30
SPEAKER_05: I saw it at the shop.
• 10:31
  SPEAKER_05: It's it's a bit of a problem.
• 10:33
SPEAKER_05: You'd never want to try to change the wheels and tires unless on a road if you have a flat.
• 10:36
SPEAKER_05: Uh so keep a puncher repair kit if that's a concern for you.
• 10:39
SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna show a little bit later about the whole roof situation, um, dropping yours versus dropping mine.
• 10:45
SPEAKER_02: What do you think about the difference between uh uh your roof and my roof?
• 10:50
SPEAKER_05: Um you know what, taking it on and off isn't that big of a deal if I'm being honest.
• 10:53
SPEAKER_05: Takes a minute, minute and a half.
• 10:55
SPEAKER_05: You can do it a little bit faster if you have somebody helping you and you've done it quite a few times.
• 10:59
SPEAKER_05: The only problem that I really have with the roof is again when I'm doing rallies and we're and we're doing some passing in Mexico, let's say, in a legal environment, at 200 kilometers an hour you get a warning and it data logs a warning in the computer.
• 11:12
SPEAKER_05: So the top's only rated to 200 kilometers an hour.
• 11:15
SPEAKER_05: Uh after that, it's not really designed to take those kinds of speeds.
• 11:19
SPEAKER_05: Um with a top down, you can do whatever you want, but with a top up, it's kind of limiting and it's kind of annoying because when you kind of get into driving in a zone with your friends on a rally and you're doing some passing, you tend to get up to some speeds in a legal environment.
• 11:33
SPEAKER_05: I don't do it in a legal and illegal environment.
• 11:35
SPEAKER_05: I'm just gonna state that.
• 11:36
  SPEAKER_05: Who would?
• 11:36
  SPEAKER_05: Who would?
• 11:37
  SPEAKER_05: Who would?
• 11:38
  SPEAKER_05: Uh but yeah, it's it's a problem because the top's basically a t-shirt.
• 11:41
SPEAKER_05: It it it doesn't do much, if I'm being honest.
• 11:44
SPEAKER_05: There's no sound insulation, it is waterproof, it is not waterproof in a car wash.
• 11:49
SPEAKER_05: Uh ask me how I know.
• 11:50
SPEAKER_05: Um, but it but it does the job.
• 11:53
SPEAKER_02: So this car has uh some peculiar quirks, like for example, that two-thirds of the three gauges, two-thirds are analog and one-third is uh digital.
• 12:03
  SPEAKER_02: Right.
• 12:03
SPEAKER_02: Does that ever throw you off, or is it just part of the package?
• 12:07
  SPEAKER_05: No, I think it's a great gauge cluster, it's straightforward, it's simple, it's all I need.
• 12:11
SPEAKER_05: I don't really care about much aside from the speedometer and the temperatures which are easily displayed, and you can toggle through other things like tire pressure and g meters.
• 12:18
SPEAKER_05: The G meter is the interesting one to me.
• 12:20
SPEAKER_05: I like seeing how high that'll get on the G Force Max.
• 12:23
SPEAKER_02: So in my car to start it, I have to insert a key and turn it.
• 12:27
  SPEAKER_02: Yep.
• 12:27
SPEAKER_02: Do you have the same in yours?
• 12:28
  SPEAKER_02: Exact same setup, yeah.
• 12:30
SPEAKER_02: And is that are you cool with that?
• 12:32
SPEAKER_05: Uh you know what I'm not cool with is a car that I paid almost$300,000 Canadian for, and I have to toggle the rear view mirror from uh, you know, daytime to nighttime.
• 12:41
  SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
• 12:41
SPEAKER_05: Uh whereas in like a$20,000 Kia, it's it's automatic.
• 12:45
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, I get it.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_05: And uh what about the audio system?
• 12:50
SPEAKER_05: Uh it's adequate, but I mean the audio system's the intake and the exhaust on this car.
• 12:54
SPEAKER_05: When you start up the car and you're driving it on the street, which buttons do you press?
• 12:58
SPEAKER_05: Uh valves open if I want to make some noise.
• 13:00
SPEAKER_05: Aside from that, I don't really touch mouse much else.
• 13:03
  SPEAKER_02: No.
• 13:03
SPEAKER_02: What about the it's shutting off uh when you come to a stop sign?
• 13:06
SPEAKER_05: It oh it doesn't have start stop, no.
• 13:08
SPEAKER_02: Oh, it doesn't have start stop.
• 13:09
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 13:09
SPEAKER_05: That's uh one thing my kind of thing.
• 13:11
SPEAKER_05: I don't think the artist cars have start stop, if I'm not mistaken.
• 13:13
SPEAKER_05: So none of them have that implemented.
• 13:15
SPEAKER_02: When you were purchasing this car, uh was there anything else in that you were considering as an alternative?
• 13:21
SPEAKER_05: No, I had my mind set on this because um I because I've always liked the look of the boxer.
• 13:26
SPEAKER_05: I like the side profile, I like the mid-engine design.
• 13:28
SPEAKER_05: Um so when I heard Porsche was gonna have like a final swan song and put the GT3 motor in the 718, uh, I was all about it.
• 13:37
SPEAKER_05: I'm like, yeah, I gotta find one of those and get my hands on that.
• 13:39
  SPEAKER_02: Planning on keeping it?
• 13:41
SPEAKER_02: For a while, yeah, yeah.
• 13:42
SPEAKER_02: Till something better comes along.
• 13:43
SPEAKER_05: And unless there's something better that comes along, but I haven't seen anything that's more appealing to me, so right now I'm married to this.
• 13:49
SPEAKER_02: Alright, Rich, let's talk money.
• 13:50
SPEAKER_02: Um, so what did you originally pay for your uh spider?
• 13:54
SPEAKER_02: It was a year old when you bought it?
• 13:56
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was maybe 10 months old.
• 13:57
  SPEAKER_02: I paid 285 Canadian for it.
• 14:00
SPEAKER_02: So there was a lot of options on your car.
• 14:02
SPEAKER_02: Now your car doesn't have the magnesium wheels, which was a 15,000 US dollar option.
• 14:08
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 14:08
SPEAKER_02: And uh so uh if that if you were buying it new, would you pay that?
• 14:14
SPEAKER_05: You know, I've thought about that for the weight savings, and I think I'd probably get it because it will it would improve the value of the car because I think it's a more premium option.
• 14:22
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'd like the look of these aluminum wheels better than the magnesium wheels, but the magnesiums have grown on me.
• 14:28
SPEAKER_05: But I think for uh the purposes that I use, because the magnesium is a little bit softer, I've heard people say that they tend to bend or break a little bit easier if you use them for hard road driving, and that's my style of driving, so I think for that purpose, like this is better on this car.
• 14:43
SPEAKER_05: If I were to have a garage clean, it would have magnesium wheels for sure.
• 14:47
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you mentioned earlier about you switched uh the tires from cup twos to four S's, which I did exactly the same thing.
• 14:54
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh even though I track my car, uh often when I end up on track days there's rain.
• 14:59
SPEAKER_02: And uh any experience with when you had uh cup twos?
• 15:02
SPEAKER_02: I think you have cup twos on another one of your cars too, don't you?
• 15:04
SPEAKER_05: I actually have cup twos on my turbo, and I'll be honest with you, I don't think they're worth the money.
• 15:09
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, um, this didn't come with the cup twos.
• 15:11
SPEAKER_05: I think this had the other option, which was the Potenzas.
• 15:13
SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, right, right, right.
• 15:14
SPEAKER_05: The bridge zone option because I think they had the option of one or the other.
• 15:17
SPEAKER_05: Um Pilot 4S tires are fantastic tires.
• 15:20
SPEAKER_05: The the G-Force Max on this car indicates 1.56 G's.
• 15:25
SPEAKER_05: That's a lot for a road car with tires that are good in pretty much every condition and have some life to them.
• 15:31
SPEAKER_05: Um so I don't think it's worth spending the extra money unless you're an absolute track monkey and you want to get that extra tenth of a second out of a lap.
• 15:38
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they definitely don't last as long, Cup 2s, my friends tell me that uh especially on track use or when the weather's a little bit cooler or those kinds of situations, they wear out much more quickly than the four S's.
• 15:49
SPEAKER_02: Any unscheduled uh visits uh to the dealership?
• 15:52
SPEAKER_05: No, I can't think of anything I've had to bring it back for.
• 15:54
SPEAKER_05: Oh, with the exception of a recall notice they had uh with the Spider RS and the GT4 RS where the center lock had a recall for some, I don't know, they might have come off or something like that.
• 16:06
SPEAKER_05: Um the the parts number on this car was fine, so it was no other issue aside from the inconvenience of taking it to the dealer.
• 16:12
SPEAKER_05: Alright, so we'll drop the top.
• 16:13
SPEAKER_05: Uh just open the other door over there.
• 16:17
SPEAKER_05: Give us a hand just by popping these.
• 16:22
SPEAKER_05: That there goes in a little holder.
• 16:24
SPEAKER_05: You see the little red clip right there.
• 16:31
  SPEAKER_05: Uh the front part.
• 16:33
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, there you go.
• 16:35
  SPEAKER_05: Okay.
• 16:36
SPEAKER_05: And now that that's done, we can pop this open.
• 16:46
SPEAKER_05: Alright, and then we'll take this bit off, which is those.
• 16:52
SPEAKER_05: You're gonna pop the plastic piece off this over here.
• 17:00
SPEAKER_05: Just gently bring that in the middle.
• 17:03
  SPEAKER_05: I got it, that's okay.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_05: And this goes inside here.
• 17:23
SPEAKER_05: There's a lever over there, you can squeeze that and then push it.
• 17:27
  SPEAKER_05: There you go.
• 17:28
  SPEAKER_05: That releases the cable.
• 17:30
SPEAKER_05: And then we're gonna take this and then roll it up like a burrito.
• 17:38
SPEAKER_05: And you can just leave that there.
• 17:47
SPEAKER_05: Just drop that inside here.
• 17:52
SPEAKER_05: And you gotta fiddle with this to get it under.
• 17:54
SPEAKER_05: So just make sure the rubber seals under there.
• 17:57
SPEAKER_05: And you're good to go.
• 18:00
SPEAKER_05: And then just latch that down.
• 18:03
  SPEAKER_05: And voila.
• 18:08
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not so bad.
• 18:10
  SPEAKER_02: Not so bad.
• 18:10
SPEAKER_02: How long did it take to get you used to that?
• 18:12
SPEAKER_05: I mean, the first time was I had to watch a couple YouTube videos.
• 18:15
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 18:16
SPEAKER_05: But uh, yeah, I mean if you have help, it's it's it's pretty easy.
• 18:19
SPEAKER_05: You can get it done in about a minute, minute and a half.
• 18:22
SPEAKER_02: Alright, let's go do the other one.
• 18:23
SPEAKER_02: So for this one, you just unlock it, hold it down.
• 18:28
  SPEAKER_02: The windows come down.
• 18:30
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's powered.
• 18:31
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 18:32
SPEAKER_02: And then you undo the tabs on this side.
• 18:37
SPEAKER_02: I want to get that side.
• 18:39
SPEAKER_05: So you push it in and it'll pop out?
• 18:41
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, in the middle, you'll feel no, no, just with your finger.
• 18:43
SPEAKER_02: You'll feel like a button in the middle, a small button.
• 18:46
  SPEAKER_02: You feel that?
• 18:46
  SPEAKER_02: Ah, okay.
• 18:47
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, push that in and push the whole thing in and pull it out.
• 18:51
SPEAKER_02: And then it it clips into there.
• 18:55
SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, the the metallic part goes down, the silver part goes down.
• 18:59
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 18:59
  SPEAKER_05: Okay, yeah.
• 19:00
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 19:02
SPEAKER_02: And then we lift it up.
• 19:05
SPEAKER_05: So you have to get out of the car to fold it down still.
• 19:08
SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, for sure.
• 19:09
  SPEAKER_05: Okay.
• 19:09
SPEAKER_02: And that's the other side.
• 19:11
  SPEAKER_05: That's pretty easy.
• 19:12
SPEAKER_02: Same deal, you push it down.
• 19:18
SPEAKER_05: Are these powered or are you put them down manually?
• 19:20
SPEAKER_02: No, you push them down manually.
• 19:21
  SPEAKER_05: Okay.
• 19:23
  SPEAKER_05: And that's it.
• 19:24
  SPEAKER_05: Pretty straightforward.
• 19:24
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 19:25
  SPEAKER_05: A little bit faster.
• 20:12
SPEAKER_03: I can see that right off the bat.
• 20:14
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
• 20:15
SPEAKER_03: I got like about 520 is what I usually read.
• 20:17
SPEAKER_02: Well, I think the the difference is my car averages 21 miles per gallon, yours is 16.
• 20:24
  SPEAKER_02: That's a big difference.
• 20:25
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, when I'm driving it's probably closer to this is a lot more subdued right off the bat.
• 20:36
SPEAKER_05: No induction sound at all.
• 20:38
  SPEAKER_05: Nope.
• 20:41
SPEAKER_05: This is a little bit different than my car in a different way.
• 20:43
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that's unreal, eh?
• 20:45
SPEAKER_02: Than a car for, you know, over a hundred grand.
• 20:47
SPEAKER_02: You have to actually set the temperature and how high the fan is going, and you can't just dial in the temperature.
• 20:54
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 20:57
SPEAKER_04: How hard do you want me to drive your car?
• 21:00
SPEAKER_01: You know, not too hard, but you know enough that you can tell see what it's like.
• 21:20
SPEAKER_02: Once you get over 4,000 RPM, it sounds decent.
• 21:23
SPEAKER_02: Below that, it's all certainly it doesn't pull as hard.
• 21:31
SPEAKER_05: Notice the big difference in the power when you drive by.
• 21:41
SPEAKER_05: This is uh, I mean, right off the hop is like a general observation.
• 21:48
SPEAKER_05: This car feels like eight tenths of the RS.
• 21:53
SPEAKER_05: And the RS feels like it's like an eleven out of ten.
• 22:01
  SPEAKER_02: 8 tenths out of 11.
• 22:02
SPEAKER_05: It's I would say it's about three points lower on feel just off the the hop.
• 22:07
SPEAKER_05: But let's let's do the full full loop and we'll see how it yeah for sure.
• 22:14
SPEAKER_05: But I would say on like regular driving on a rally style drive, if you're with very similar cars, this is like the seat's very comfortable, it's more than adequate.
• 22:22
  SPEAKER_05: It's got it's got plenty.
• 22:24
SPEAKER_05: It's just that mine feels it's like a crazy girlfriend.
• 22:31
SPEAKER_05: You'll see when you drive it.
• 22:33
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 22:36
SPEAKER_05: But it must feel very familiar in terms of the ergonomics.
• 22:40
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the I mean it doesn't have the race tech on the wheel, the paddles feel similar.
• 22:45
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 22:47
SPEAKER_05: Um the scenic feels higher than my car though.
• 22:50
SPEAKER_05: And that's interesting because with the carbon buckets that I have, I put the inserts in, and the inserts are thicker memory foam.
• 22:56
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 22:56
SPEAKER_05: So I sit about probably half an inch higher than the stock foam that came with them.
• 23:02
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 23:02
SPEAKER_05: But I feel like I'm sitting about an extra inch higher in this car versus the carbon buckets in mine.
• 23:07
SPEAKER_05: So I would say the carbon buckets lower your seating quite a bit by probably about an inch and a half.
• 23:15
SPEAKER_05: Here I feel like I'm more on the car.
• 23:17
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 23:18
SPEAKER_05: Mine feels like I'm in it.
• 23:19
  SPEAKER_05: Got it.
• 23:20
  SPEAKER_05: Like you're wearing it.
• 23:21
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 23:22
SPEAKER_02: Actually, my experience with carbon buckets in other people's cars, GT3RS and Carrera T, I also felt that you sit quite low.
• 23:31
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 23:32
SPEAKER_02: This is the four-liter Carrera S motor, right?
• 23:35
SPEAKER_02: Uh 4-liter Carrera no, 4-liter standard motor, but that one is 3 liters with a turbo on it.
• 23:43
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_02: That motor poured out to 4 liters is this one.
• 23:46
  SPEAKER_02: Got it.
• 23:50
  SPEAKER_05: Considerably quieter, yeah.
• 23:52
SPEAKER_05: Does um PVK sports meet up the shifts like it doesn't matter?
• 23:57
SPEAKER_04: Take a little bit of that, thank you very much.
• 24:00
SPEAKER_04: How firm does the suspension feel?
• 24:03
  SPEAKER_05: Uh this is softer.
• 24:04
SPEAKER_05: I would say this is probably 15%, maybe 20% softer.
• 24:10
  SPEAKER_05: Try the shocks.
• 24:11
SPEAKER_05: But some of that might be in the softer seating.
• 24:14
  SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, yeah.
• 24:16
SPEAKER_04: But it feels um I mean it feels like a Cadillac compared to my front.
• 24:22
SPEAKER_04: I actually prefer a softer setup so I can lean into it.
• 24:26
SPEAKER_04: The front end doesn't feel as grippy, as confidence inspiring, if you put it that way.
• 24:30
  SPEAKER_04: No, I'm sure it's not.
• 24:31
SPEAKER_04: Sounds like a portion that was very fine and feels good.
• 24:41
SPEAKER_04: I wish it made a little bit more noise.
• 24:44
SPEAKER_04: Induction noise or exhaust noise?
• 24:48
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's missing the theater of the RS.
• 24:55
  SPEAKER_04: That's a nice sound.
• 25:13
SPEAKER_05: Do you ever use the shifter or just I have just to, you know, pretend like you're driving a manual, but I prefer keeping my hands at nine to three and I don't like it.
• 25:25
SPEAKER_05: I like locking it in gear so you get that induction pull.
• 25:32
SPEAKER_01: I don't get much of a verbal from the start now.
• 25:40
SPEAKER_04: Do you feel like you're sliding around the seat?
• 25:42
SPEAKER_04: I don't know if you have done much.
• 25:45
SPEAKER_04: I mean I'm not driving it hard enough to really slip around too much.
• 25:50
SPEAKER_04: But the buckets are nice.
• 25:51
SPEAKER_04: Like when you're in, you're you're definitely in the car.
• 25:54
SPEAKER_04: You're definitely wearing a turning circle is pretty similar.
• 25:57
SPEAKER_04: I like the softer suspension, it eats up the bumps nicely.
• 26:02
SPEAKER_04: Have you ever bought your zoo?
• 26:04
  SPEAKER_01: No.
• 26:05
  SPEAKER_01: No?
• 26:05
  SPEAKER_01: I have.
• 26:06
  SPEAKER_01: Have you?
• 26:07
  SPEAKER_01: Rough roads, yeah.
• 26:09
SPEAKER_01: Rough roads, I'm driving along.
• 26:11
SPEAKER_01: I thought was a decent clip, nothing special.
• 26:13
SPEAKER_01: And all of a sudden, like if you feel it bottoming out.
• 26:16
SPEAKER_02: No, it was like undulating, you know, kind of thing.
• 26:19
  SPEAKER_02: It wasn't choppy.
• 26:20
  SPEAKER_02: Not too much.
• 26:21
  SPEAKER_04: Like a scrape splitter?
• 26:23
  SPEAKER_04: Nope.
• 26:23
  SPEAKER_04: Nope.
• 26:24
SPEAKER_04: Definitely less front-end grip than the RS.
• 26:26
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 26:27
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the RS tracks beautifully.
• 26:30
SPEAKER_04: Not that this doesn't, it just tracks a lot better.
• 26:32
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, sure.
• 26:34
SPEAKER_01: It's interesting that the people didn't hear us coming.
• 26:36
  SPEAKER_04: No, they'll be.
• 26:41
SPEAKER_05: I'm just sitting here thinking now, is this car a better buy than mine at the price point?
• 26:48
  SPEAKER_05: Or is it equivalent?
• 26:50
SPEAKER_05: Like you get like you're getting your money's worth out of the RS.
• 26:54
SPEAKER_05: And I'm gonna go with you get your money's worth out of the RS.
• 26:58
  SPEAKER_05: I think it's worth the money.
• 26:59
SPEAKER_05: It's worth two of these?
• 27:02
SPEAKER_05: Well, you drive and you tell me what you think.
• 27:04
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's that's the plan.
• 27:06
SPEAKER_05: But I'm uh I mean I like I like driving my cars hard.
• 27:09
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 27:10
  SPEAKER_05: I'll drive them at 10 tenths.
• 27:13
SPEAKER_05: Um I like finding the limits.
• 27:16
SPEAKER_05: I always leave the stability and traction and everything on.
• 27:18
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 27:19
  SPEAKER_05: But um yeah, there's a there's a real feel to it.
• 27:31
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's there's more of a rawness to it that I think's yeah, I think it's worth the extra hundred right.
• 27:37
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
• 27:38
SPEAKER_02: This was the first convertible GT car, right?
• 27:41
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 27:42
SPEAKER_02: I think it's incredible that Porsche made this into an RS.
• 27:45
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 27:46
SPEAKER_02: That they chose to do that.
• 27:48
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's why I wanted it.
• 27:49
SPEAKER_05: I was I was just like, I must have this now.
• 27:52
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 27:53
SPEAKER_05: I I'd really be interested to see what this car drives like with the demand treatment.
• 27:59
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
• 28:00
SPEAKER_05: If it's um like how much it livens it up, but it's uh it's a very nice driver.
• 28:06
  SPEAKER_05: It's only a Porsche, it's very smooth.
• 28:10
  SPEAKER_05: It's got a nice induction sound.
• 28:12
SPEAKER_05: I just wish it had more volume to it.
• 28:14
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was having so much fun, I missed my turn.
• 28:17
SPEAKER_05: That's right, that tells you something right there.
• 28:18
SPEAKER_05: I mean, how bad could the car be?
• 28:20
  SPEAKER_05: It's great, yeah.
• 28:20
  SPEAKER_05: It's fantastic.
• 28:22
SPEAKER_05: You never have a bad day behind the wheel of a Porsche.
• 28:29
  SPEAKER_05: And you know what?
• 28:30
SPEAKER_05: The power, I mean, getting out of my car and driving this, you're like, ah, it's down on power.
• 28:36
  SPEAKER_05: Of course, of course.
• 28:37
SPEAKER_05: After I've driven it for a little bit now, it's just like it's fine, it's more than adequate.
• 28:41
SPEAKER_05: There's nothing like a flat six, they just sound amazing.
• 28:44
SPEAKER_02: The highway at 70 miles an hour, interstate 75 miles an hour, whatever.
• 28:48
  SPEAKER_02: Can you uh talk?
• 28:50
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 28:51
  SPEAKER_04: This car's much quieter.
• 28:53
SPEAKER_04: No, but I mean your car.
• 28:55
  SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
• 28:55
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
• 28:56
SPEAKER_04: Because I got a friend with the GT4RS, he says you can't.
• 29:00
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the problem with the 4RS is the intake location in the cabin.
• 29:08
SPEAKER_05: Uh, from what I understand, it's there's a lot of resonation, there's a boominess to it, um, which they solve with the spider RS.
• 29:16
SPEAKER_05: Box is under the cover, it's not in the cabin itself.
• 29:20
SPEAKER_05: There's a little more theater to the downshifts.
• 29:23
  SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
• 29:24
SPEAKER_01: The 981, the previous generation of this has that.
• 29:28
SPEAKER_05: Glad I got to try this back to back with the exact same tires.
• 29:31
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 29:32
SPEAKER_05: The only difference is the suspension in the car itself.
• 29:34
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, good point.
• 29:36
SPEAKER_05: But you know, the mechanical grip off the tires will be exactly the same.
• 29:44
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, if I had to, like if I was at the dealer driving these back to back, I had the means so I would spend the extra money, but I think for uh somebody that uh didn't want to spend an extra hundred grand, uh you'd be more than happy with this car.
• 30:00
SPEAKER_04: And depends how you're gonna use it, right?
• 30:02
  SPEAKER_04: Sure, yeah.
• 30:03
  SPEAKER_04: Makes a big difference.
• 30:05
SPEAKER_04: Do you shift with the paddles or you use this thing?
• 30:08
SPEAKER_02: I I rarely shift, to be honest.
• 30:10
SPEAKER_02: I let the car do it.
• 30:11
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 30:12
SPEAKER_02: You know, most of the time.
• 30:14
SPEAKER_02: But when I do shift, I do ship with the paddles.
• 30:16
SPEAKER_02: The horse is in the 60s, and uh and he got one of the first PvKs in his turbo, I don't know, 2010 or something like that.
• 30:25
SPEAKER_02: And uh when I asked him about that, you know, because he had lots of racing experience on horses and things like that, I said, Do you manually shift your PvK?
• 30:33
SPEAKER_02: He says no, it's way smart way smarter than I am.
• 30:36
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 30:38
SPEAKER_05: On the racetrack, I don't even shift the paddles.
• 30:40
  SPEAKER_05: I let the paddle.
• 30:41
SPEAKER_05: I just put it in square mode and I let the car do it.
• 30:44
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 30:44
SPEAKER_05: On the road, I prefer to do the shifting.
• 30:45
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I did.
• 30:51
SPEAKER_04: Very similar wind noise with a cabin with the top down, it's like the same.
• 30:55
SPEAKER_02: If you were to track your um your RS at uh Mossport, for example, you know, given the the speed, you know, uh like I hit 240 on the back street kilometers an hour, it's 120.
• 31:09
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 140 miles an hour.
• 31:11
SPEAKER_02: Um your car is limited to 120 miles an hour with the top up.
• 31:15
  SPEAKER_02: What would you do?
• 31:16
SPEAKER_02: Drive with the top down, hopefully that it's sunny?
• 31:19
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just wear a helmet and drive with the top down.
• 31:21
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 31:22
SPEAKER_02: You do have to wear armor streets, so that's the only problem.
• 31:25
SPEAKER_02: To uh to folks that uh said that, I said, well, what about if it rains?
• 31:28
SPEAKER_02: They said, you're not gonna be going 140 miles an hour in the rain anyway.
• 31:32
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 31:33
  SPEAKER_02: You're right, I'm not.
• 31:37
SPEAKER_05: And by the way, the car's not speed limited when the top's outside.
• 31:40
SPEAKER_02: No, no, I know that's the time.
• 31:41
SPEAKER_02: You'll just get the warnings.
• 31:42
SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, I realize that.
• 31:43
SPEAKER_02: But I understand if you go over that, it does tend to stretch the top.
• 31:47
  SPEAKER_02: That's what I I've heard.
• 31:48
  SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously you don't know.
• 31:49
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well that's what I'm concerned about because it because it logs in every time it happens, and if you bring it to the dealer and say, hey, my top's you know, it's not really in shape anymore, it's kind of stretched out.
• 31:58
SPEAKER_05: Can we get a new one?
• 31:59
  SPEAKER_05: It's still under warranty.
• 32:00
SPEAKER_05: They'll they'll probably tell you to get lost if you've if you've data logged over 200 several times.
• 32:04
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'm sure they will.
• 32:06
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you wouldn't want to drive that car uh on a support with the top.
• 32:09
  SPEAKER_04: Uh up.
• 32:11
SPEAKER_04: What is this guy doing?
• 32:15
  SPEAKER_04: Would I know?
• 32:16
SPEAKER_02: I I just don't see it as being necessary.
• 32:19
SPEAKER_02: Like I say, most of most of my enthusiast driving, if you want, is on the track.
• 32:23
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 32:23
SPEAKER_02: And it sounds great, you know, when it's uh 7,000, 8,000 RPM.
• 32:27
SPEAKER_02: It sounds great, you know.
• 32:29
SPEAKER_02: So I don't really see the point.
• 32:31
  SPEAKER_02: Alright, well, your turn.
• 32:32
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I can definitely feel that I'm sitting lower.
• 32:34
  SPEAKER_02: The difference in sound.
• 32:36
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 32:39
SPEAKER_05: And you don't even have the valves open yet.
• 32:42
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 32:43
SPEAKER_05: So how do you set it up when you're driving?
• 32:45
SPEAKER_05: I'll do that and I'll put it in uh manual mode and shift manually.
• 32:49
  SPEAKER_05: Right.
• 32:49
SPEAKER_02: The sensation of speed is um so much less, you know what I mean?
• 32:55
SPEAKER_02: Like I feel like I'm going so much slower than I'm actually going.
• 32:59
SPEAKER_02: Keep in mind the tires are still a little full.
• 33:33
SPEAKER_05: I've never noticed that antenna line there before.
• 33:36
SPEAKER_05: You only see it from the passenger seat.
• 33:38
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 33:39
SPEAKER_05: How often does it in the passenger seat?
• 33:41
  SPEAKER_05: Today's the first day.
• 33:42
SPEAKER_05: You'll notice the induction sound will change with the valves open versus closed.
• 33:51
SPEAKER_05: Like if you close them, you get a slightly different induction sound.
• 33:56
SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, I think you'll tell a difference, even when you just tip in a little bit.
• 34:06
SPEAKER_05: But I like being noisy.
• 34:08
  SPEAKER_05: First impressions?
• 34:09
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's amazing.
• 34:11
SPEAKER_02: I mean you you see it, you hear about it in the videos, you you read it, you know, in the reviews, and that kind of thing about the you know, the excitement, the visceral feel, you know, that kind of thing.
• 34:23
SPEAKER_02: But till you're sitting here, till you got your your hands on the wheel, you know, it's it's just it's incredible.
• 34:38
  SPEAKER_05: You're smiling a lot, Gary.
• 34:39
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah I know.
• 34:40
SPEAKER_05: I'm just looking at my screen over here and I see a big smile on your face.
• 34:43
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 34:46
SPEAKER_02: Well you'd be dead if you didn't, like that's what I forget.
• 35:00
  SPEAKER_04: It just screams.
• 35:02
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 35:06
SPEAKER_05: It's ridiculously loud, like it's ridiculously loud.
• 35:09
SPEAKER_05: I think the Porsche engineers are like, let's deafen people with this thing.
• 35:14
SPEAKER_05: And you can't really hear the exhaust note, huh?
• 35:17
SPEAKER_02: No, you know, you're right.
• 35:18
SPEAKER_02: You just hear the shriek of the intake, right?
• 35:20
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's just the induction sound, like you hear the valves doing their thing at 9,000 RPM.
• 35:26
SPEAKER_05: It sounds like a chainsaw.
• 35:27
SPEAKER_05: That lady clutched her dog even tighter when she heard us coming.
• 35:31
  SPEAKER_05: Wise woman.
• 35:32
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 36:14
  SPEAKER_02: That's unreal.
• 36:17
SPEAKER_02: I'm so into the sound I didn't forget to use the direction signals.
• 36:26
SPEAKER_05: What do you think of the ride compared to the spider?
• 36:28
  SPEAKER_05: It's it's definitely stiffer, right?
• 36:30
SPEAKER_02: It's stiffer, but not it's not punishing.
• 36:33
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not punishing.
• 37:15
SPEAKER_02: So how does this sound compare to the McLaren you had?
• 37:20
  SPEAKER_02: I mean it's naturally aspirated, right?
• 37:22
  SPEAKER_02: Big difference.
• 37:25
SPEAKER_02: The McLaren isn't naturally aspirated?
• 37:27
  SPEAKER_05: Twin turbo BA.
• 37:28
  SPEAKER_02: Oh.
• 37:29
SPEAKER_05: Lower lower red line too.
• 37:31
  SPEAKER_05: I think it's about 7,500 or 8,000 maybe.
• 37:38
  SPEAKER_05: It sounds amazing.
• 37:39
SPEAKER_05: Like the McLaren sounds fantastic.
• 37:41
SPEAKER_05: It's just this is on another level.
• 37:43
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
• 37:44
SPEAKER_05: You notice the difference in power?
• 37:46
  SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
• 37:46
  SPEAKER_05: That much, yeah.
• 37:56
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so this is a 50.
• 38:00
SPEAKER_04: We're running ways, keeping an eye out for you.
• 38:04
  SPEAKER_04: Plus it's a Tuesday.
• 38:06
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, plus there's no PPE station just back there.
• 38:10
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're not they're not worried about us.
• 38:15
  SPEAKER_05: There's a reason why I said let's meet during the week.
• 38:18
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that was uh wise choice.
• 38:20
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can see why you shift it manually though most of the time.
• 38:23
SPEAKER_02: Because I'm not shifting it manually right now, and you can see the difference.
• 38:26
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 38:26
SPEAKER_01: You know, that's for sure.
• 38:27
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, lock at it manual, give it a go.
• 38:49
SPEAKER_01: It still is a fifty here.
• 38:54
  SPEAKER_06: It's unreal.
• 38:55
  SPEAKER_05: It's unreal.
• 38:56
SPEAKER_05: Is it too early to ask if it's worth the extra hundred grand?
• 39:00
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know.
• 39:02
  SPEAKER_05: You know, it's I mean it's a partspin car, right?
• 39:10
SPEAKER_05: Oh, for sure it is.
• 39:14
SPEAKER_05: Front suspension off the 991911, ceramics off the GT3, engine out of the GT3, basically a 718 body.
• 39:25
  SPEAKER_05: It's a partspin's car.
• 39:26
SPEAKER_05: They just slapped it all together and said, there you go.
• 39:28
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think there was a little more to it than just that there you go.
• 39:32
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they you know they did little tweaking and you know, turn around here.
• 39:37
SPEAKER_05: Actually, make a ride over here.
• 39:38
SPEAKER_05: There's a nice road right here, too.
• 39:41
SPEAKER_05: This will just loop us back.
• 39:43
  SPEAKER_05: Okay.
• 39:45
SPEAKER_05: Sometimes there's a little bit of debris on it.
• 39:46
SPEAKER_05: I don't know if it's washed away yet or not.
• 39:48
  SPEAKER_04: Let's watch for it.
• 39:50
SPEAKER_05: Just keep an eye around the corners.
• 39:52
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 40:11
  SPEAKER_05: Ninety degree chart.
• 40:16
SPEAKER_05: You go faster, you got more, you got more, you got more.
• 41:02
SPEAKER_02: Like like almost like driving the snow tires on?
• 41:04
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 41:05
  SPEAKER_02: Huh?
• 41:05
SPEAKER_02: No, I didn't notice much difference in the ride quality.
• 41:08
SPEAKER_02: My car came with cup twos and I found when I switched them, although I was expecting it, but uh they definitely felt a lot rougher.
• 41:42
  SPEAKER_00: It's unreal.
• 41:46
SPEAKER_00: I so appreciate you giving me this opportunity, I really do.
• 41:50
SPEAKER_05: You know, love cars, love hanging out with car guys, it's been a fun day.
• 41:54
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 41:54
SPEAKER_05: I thought it'd be interesting to see what your opinion is because you you know you formed a very strong opinion based on research and stats, but now you've driven the car.
• 42:04
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, I'll be curious to hear your final verdict on that.
• 42:07
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 42:08
SPEAKER_05: See if you've changed your mind or not.
• 42:10
SPEAKER_02: So before you bought this one, did you drive?
• 42:13
  SPEAKER_02: Did you drive it?
• 42:14
SPEAKER_02: No, I bought it sight unseen.
• 42:15
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but did you drive any RS?
• 42:17
SPEAKER_05: Uh not not a bot.
• 42:20
  SPEAKER_05: Not a spider R.
• 42:21
  SPEAKER_05: I mean I drove a uh GT3 and I've driven a uh GT3 RS.
• 42:25
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 42:26
  SPEAKER_05: Um, but that's a different car.
• 42:28
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, oh for sure it is.
• 42:30
SPEAKER_05: This one to me is more clinical, it's more surgical, more lively.
• 42:41
SPEAKER_05: Which is interesting because when you hear them talk about the design elements of it, Porsche claims that this is the most road-focused RS car.
• 42:49
SPEAKER_05: So maybe that's a thing, like on the road it just feels that much better.
• 42:55
SPEAKER_05: Whereas the other cars are all designed for the tracks.
• 43:00
SPEAKER_05: You're giggling an awful lot, Gary.
• 43:02
  SPEAKER_05: I know.
• 43:03
  SPEAKER_05: You're giggling a lot.
• 43:05
  SPEAKER_05: I know.
• 43:06
SPEAKER_05: You're gonna make a right up here at the stop side.
• 43:10
  unknown: Okay.
• 44:15
SPEAKER_05: Um another difference I noticed, your car runs warmer, much warmer.
• 44:20
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 44:20
SPEAKER_05: I got 88 on coolant temp and 96 on oil.
• 44:24
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 44:25
SPEAKER_05: And I was just hammering the crap out of it back there.
• 44:27
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 44:28
SPEAKER_05: The temperature barely moves, but I noticed yours even just on mile driving.
• 44:31
SPEAKER_05: It it sits around 100 on uh both.
• 44:33
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that's true.
• 44:34
SPEAKER_02: It does uh it does sit quite uh warm, that's for sure.
• 44:37
SPEAKER_02: And I noticed on track days it's it's right up there in August.
• 44:41
SPEAKER_02: It never overheats, but it's always up there.
• 44:44
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, this car's remarkable and it's cooling.
• 44:46
SPEAKER_05: It has no problem keeping the engine and oil and uh temperature ranges that are nice.
• 44:51
SPEAKER_05: See, it's not bad as long as you're not leaning into it.
• 44:53
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 44:54
SPEAKER_05: Like you don't hear the induction when you're cruising, right?
• 44:56
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 44:56
  SPEAKER_05: No, that's right.
• 44:59
SPEAKER_05: But as soon as you lock it into gear and then the rev start to build, it just gets louder and louder.
• 45:05
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's for sure.
• 45:07
  SPEAKER_05: So what's the verdict?
• 45:09
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's pretty tempting.
• 45:10
  SPEAKER_02: It's pretty tempting.
• 45:12
SPEAKER_02: If there ever was a time, now's the time.
• 45:16
SPEAKER_02: These things are a little below MSRP, mine's a little at or maybe slightly above MSRP.
• 45:23
SPEAKER_02: You can get these now.
• 45:26
SPEAKER_05: There's lots of them out there.
• 45:29
SPEAKER_05: Some really nice specs out there too, if you look on the auto trader.
• 45:32
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 45:35
SPEAKER_02: I was reading a uh a quote yesterday actually, it was saying that 80% of the ones sold in North America have the Viceac package.
• 45:44
SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, I think I think the vast majority of orders would have that box checked off.
• 45:49
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, most of the ones that I've seen for sale are uh carbon ceramics, biceck, very unique colors, even PTS colors.
• 45:58
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 45:59
SPEAKER_05: Um and it seems like 50-50 opted in for the magnesium wheels.
• 46:03
  SPEAKER_05: Wow.
• 46:03
  SPEAKER_05: 50-50, wow, that's incredible.
• 46:05
SPEAKER_02: Would you have gone for paint to sample?
• 46:09
SPEAKER_05: Um I don't think I I don't think it's worth the extra money to be honest with you, because they have some really nice colors and you know the regular lineup, even if it's a mild upgrade.
• 46:21
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 46:22
SPEAKER_05: Like I love this gold on red, or the red on gold, sorry.
• 46:27
  SPEAKER_05: I think it's a nice uh finish.
• 46:28
SPEAKER_05: And you know, with these houndstooth inserts.
• 46:31
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, they're nice.
• 46:32
SPEAKER_05: Very, you know, Porsche authentic.
• 46:34
  SPEAKER_05: It's it's customized, so it's comfortable, you know.
• 46:37
SPEAKER_05: I like the the padding, you know.
• 46:39
  SPEAKER_05: And it's fairly grippy.
• 46:41
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, I've driven six days straight in this car and had no back issues whatsoever.
• 46:46
SPEAKER_05: What do you think is gonna be in the long term in terms of depreciation?
• 46:50
SPEAKER_05: I think these will probably depreciate it a little bit more, it seems like again, you know, I paid$285 for it.
• 46:56
SPEAKER_05: These are worth$220 right now, roughly.
• 46:58
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 46:59
SPEAKER_05: And you haven't seen the price on yours move that much.
• 47:01
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 47:02
SPEAKER_05: So if that trend continues, like these will be an absolute bargain soon.
• 47:07
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 47:08
SPEAKER_05: I don't know how much lower they're gonna go though, like it's a fan.
• 47:11
SPEAKER_05: I I I personally think that it's an undervalued uh price point.
• 47:16
SPEAKER_05: Like these should be selling for a lot more.
• 47:18
SPEAKER_05: When you consider it's basically a GT3 in a boxer with a slightly less sophisticated suspension setup, and a GT3 is gonna cost you 400 grand even for using the payquet.
• 47:31
  SPEAKER_05: They're brutal.
• 47:32
SPEAKER_05: Like this is half the price of a GT3, but it's not half the car.
• 47:35
SPEAKER_05: No, no, no, no way.
• 47:52
SPEAKER_05: And that's why you leave the stability control on.
• 47:55
SPEAKER_02: Alright, so what do you think?
• 47:57
SPEAKER_05: Well, I was expecting the cars to be a little bit closer in uh feel and drive and handling and power, but they were further apart than what I expected.
• 48:07
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 48:08
SPEAKER_05: Um I figured the spider is probably about, I mean, if we're going, you know, in a mark of 10, it's probably eight-tenths of the car of the RS.
• 48:18
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 48:19
SPEAKER_05: Um and in some conditions the RS feels even a little bit more like a you know, we were driving a set of like an 11-tenths car.
• 48:25
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, eleven-tenths.
• 48:26
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 48:26
SPEAKER_05: Um so it's a lot more exciting.
• 48:28
SPEAKER_05: You sit kind of like in the car, the car's on you versus the spider, you almost feel like you're sitting on it.
• 48:35
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 48:36
SPEAKER_05: In some instances, the spider almost feels like it's a Cadillac compared to the RS.
• 48:40
SPEAKER_05: Like that's how different the two are.
• 48:42
SPEAKER_05: Again, I thought that would be a lot closer in feel and driving experience, but spider's a very nice car.
• 48:47
SPEAKER_05: I mean, if you're a road tripper and you want a nice car that's very capable and competent and drives well, you won't be disappointed.
• 48:53
SPEAKER_05: But if you want to go like I mean, if you like a crazy girlfriend, get the RS.
• 48:59
  SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, that's that's right.
• 49:01
  SPEAKER_02: That's right.
• 49:02
SPEAKER_02: You know, I I think like the spider RS is phenomenal.
• 49:05
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it is phenomenal.
• 49:06
  SPEAKER_02: I I couldn't stop smiling, I couldn't stop laughing.
• 49:08
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it it it was great.
• 49:10
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was an amazing opportunity for me to drive it, and I I can really, really appreciate what that car is.
• 49:16
SPEAKER_02: Um, is it worth two 718 spiders?
• 49:19
  SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
• 49:20
SPEAKER_02: You know, uh it depends.
• 49:21
SPEAKER_02: You know, it depends on who you are, it depends on what your needs are.
• 49:24
  SPEAKER_02: You know, I think that's that's that's the real difference.
• 49:27
SPEAKER_02: I mean, for someone that uh does a lot of road tripping, I know you do a lot of road tripping, that's what you really enjoy the car for, right?
• 49:33
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 49:34
SPEAKER_02: And I know a lot of your buddies from what I've seen of your videos, you know, have McLaren's, um, you know, what else is R8 V10s, you know, all that kind of stuff.
• 49:42
SPEAKER_02: You know, so it that it the RS is a better fit for that crowd.
• 49:46
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's a it's a it's a genuine road ripper.
• 49:49
SPEAKER_05: It's it's uh like I said earlier, it's almost the equivalent of my 20-year-old self driving a sport bike, but you're sat in the thing wrapped around you with four wheels and more contact patches.
• 50:03
SPEAKER_05: It's it's the adult version of a sports bike, is what it is.
• 50:06
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, and and uh and I totally get it.
• 50:09
SPEAKER_02: You know, I remember years ago we we went through the Hondas 2000s, yeah, you know, that was again uh uh four-wheeled version of a sport bike, right?
• 50:16
SPEAKER_02: You know, and that kind of thing.
• 50:18
SPEAKER_02: And I think this is the the next step you know from that, you know, and and that's uh you know, and I I totally get it, you know.
• 50:27
SPEAKER_02: So is it worth it for me to make a move?
• 50:30
SPEAKER_02: You know, that's that's that's uh I probably won't, you know, to be perfectly honest with you, I probably won't.
• 50:37
  SPEAKER_02: I mean it was a great experience, it's a great car.
• 50:39
SPEAKER_02: Um I can see where the money is, you know, and that kind of thing.
• 50:42
SPEAKER_02: And as I've mentioned before in my other video, you know, where I competed where I was trying to decide whether I should make the move up to an RS or not, um, you know, I said in that now's the time, because uh the um resale value on your car on the RS now has somewhat below MSRP.
• 51:00
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, mine's holding, and in some cases might even be slightly above, you know.
• 51:03
SPEAKER_02: So if there was ever time to do it, now's the time to do it.
• 51:06
SPEAKER_02: And there's lots of RSs available on the market right now.
• 51:08
SPEAKER_05: Some great builds out there.
• 51:09
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, whereas uh when they were new, you know, you'd have to go to the dealer, you have to be allocated, and who knows how many take hands you have to buy to be able to get on that list, you know.
• 51:18
SPEAKER_02: So so that kind of uh thing is uh is definitely there.
• 51:22
SPEAKER_02: I mean it's definitely gonna give me something to think about.
• 51:25
SPEAKER_02: I'm not a snap judgment kind of guy.
• 51:27
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, but uh I mean it it it really is, it truly is an amazing car, you know, and uh and I appreciate uh the opportunity to have this uh this day with you, you know, spend the day with you and uh happy to do it, man.
• 51:40
SPEAKER_02: And uh and drive the car, and especially drive your car.
• 51:42
SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean that that was uh that's uh just phenomenal.
• 51:46
SPEAKER_02: Now you do know that Porsche is planning to bring out a replacement for the 718 series, and it is gonna be gas.
• 51:52
SPEAKER_05: You know, there is gonna be a gas version.
• 51:53
SPEAKER_05: But they keep flip-flopping, you know, they're going, oh, it's gonna be electric, then it's gonna be gas.
• 51:57
  SPEAKER_05: We'll see.
• 51:58
SPEAKER_05: I mean, I was hoping that that was the last Swan song.
• 52:00
