- 2:49Sunny mornings send you. In local news, in 2025,
- 2:56Boston experienced its slowest year of post -pandemic
- 3:00population growth, according to newly released
- 3:02census data. Both the metro area and statewide
- 3:06growth were significantly lower than any year
- 3:09since 2021. The greater Boston population saw
- 3:13a year -over -year increase of only 11 ,991 from
- 3:182024 to 2025. a stark decrease from the 51 ,573
- 3:25growth from 2023 to 2024. Statewide, Massachusetts
- 3:31recorded a population increase of just 15 ,524
- 3:36last year, marking its smallest growth since
- 3:392021. Now on to sports. In a weekend steeped
- 3:49in history, the Huskies marched from 19 points
- 3:52down to create an NCAA tournament masterpiece.
- 3:57UConn defeated Duke 73 -72 in a game that defied
- 4:01belief from start to finish. Huskies coach Dan
- 4:05Hurley praised the team's fortitude, saying,
- 4:08We fought, we clawed, and put ourselves in position
- 4:11to take advantage of a mistake. Freshman guard
- 4:15Braylon Mullins made a legendary shot that did
- 4:17not even graze the rim, sealing the comeback
- 4:20with just .4 seconds left. Yukon's victory not
- 4:25only advanced them to the Final Four, but also
- 4:27marked a significant achievement in college basketball
- 4:30history. In local sports, the Red Sox head to
- 4:35Houston tonight for Game 1 of a three -game series
- 4:38against the Astros. with Ranger Suarez on the
- 4:41mound in first pitch at 8 -10. Boston is dealing
- 4:46with some injury issues. Tristan Cassis is sidelined
- 4:50with a ruptured patellar tendon, though he has
- 4:52been cleared to run the bases. The good news
- 4:55on the pitching front, Cutter Crawford and Patrick
- 4:58Sandoval are both ramping up in extended spring
- 5:01training today and getting close to rehab assignments.
- 5:05Meanwhile, the Celtics travel to Atlanta to face
- 5:08the Hawks tonight. at 7 .30. Boston is sitting
- 5:13second in the East, but they have got injury
- 5:15concerns heading in. Jalen Brown is out with
- 5:18left Achilles tendonitis, and Jason Tatum is
- 5:22managing his Achilles carefully. The Hawks have
- 5:26been rolling since the All -Star break, sitting
- 5:29at 15 -2 in their last 17, so this will be a
- 5:34tough test. On the positive side, the Celtics
- 5:38locked up their 12th straight playoff appearance
- 5:40yesterday, the longest streak in the NBA. On
- 5:44the ice, the Bruins host Dallas tomorrow night
- 5:47at 7. Boston is riding a six -game winning streak
- 5:52behind David Pasternak, who has been electric
- 5:55with 18 points in his last nine games. The Stars
- 5:59bring Michael Rantanen, their new acquisition
- 6:02leading Dallas in scoring. so it should be a
- 6:05good one. In top news, new research suggests
- 6:11the body may limit how many calories you burn
- 6:14during a workout, helping explain why weight
- 6:16loss is often smaller than expected. The logic
- 6:20feels airtight. Move more, burn more, weigh less.
- 6:25However, for many people, the math never quite
- 6:28adds up. In controlled studies, exercise often
- 6:32results in less weight loss than calorie models
- 6:34predict. Even with aerobic activities like walking,
- 6:38jogging, and cycling, most lose an average of
- 6:423 .5 pounds over six months. This modest return
- 6:46for significant effort has puzzled researchers
- 6:48for a long time. Part of the answer may be that
- 6:52working out can increase hunger, making it easier
- 6:55to consume calories. Experts are also investigating
- 6:59a more counterintuitive phenomenon. An analysis
- 7:03suggested that people only burned about a third
- 7:06of the extra calories their workouts theoretically
- 7:08required. In other words, a run that should have
- 7:12burned 500 calories only added around 165 calories
- 7:17to the daily budget. The body seems to compensate
- 7:21for increased physical activity by reducing energy
- 7:24spent elsewhere. In business news, why the cost
- 7:30of your coffee has soared is a pressing question
- 7:32for many consumers. Fans of Reverie Roaster's
- 7:36Bone Shaker Espresso Blend are experiencing sticker
- 7:39shock as coffee prices continue to rise. For
- 7:43years, a 12 -ounce bag cost $15, but as of last
- 7:47spring, it increased to $17. Next month, Reverie's
- 7:52owner, Andrew Gove, plans to raise the price
- 7:55again to $18. Factors like tariffs, crop failures,
- 8:01and rising labor costs are driving these increases.
- 8:04Despite recent dips in commodity coffee prices,
- 8:08concerns about the Iran war are pushing them
- 8:11up again. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is down
- 8:155 .5 % over the weekend to about $66 ,000. Ethereum
- 8:21is down 7%. to $2 ,000. And XRP is down 8 % to
- 8:28$1 .33. Moving on to a more local vibe. In our

- 9:19Let's talk tech. Your body is betraying your
- 9:23right to privacy. Attachment to smart devices
- 9:26and biometric surveillance leaves Americans more
- 9:30vulnerable to police searches than ever. Unchecked,
- 9:34it will only get worse. The adage know thyself
- 9:37resonates in the digital age. Today, smart devices
- 9:42monitor your heartbeat, blood pressure, exercise
- 9:45habits, and more. This Internet of Bodies offers
- 9:49insights about your quantified self. Millions
- 9:53of Americans wear smartwatches reminding them
- 9:56to stand and breathe. These devices track bodily
- 9:59activity, which can help police if necessary.
- 10:03The data we produce is increasingly valuable.
- 10:08And in entertainment news, the Apple TV psychological
- 10:13thriller Imperfect Women. Based on Araminta Hall's
- 10:18novel of the same name, is a twisted, sinister
- 10:21tale of friendship and the facades people build
- 10:24to prevent others from looking too closely. Utterly
- 10:28compelling, the series places a microscope on
- 10:30the lives of three longtime friends, forcing
- 10:33them to reflect on each other and the deception
- 10:36simmering just below the surface. Set in Los
- 10:39Angeles and its surroundings, Imperfect Women
- 10:42begins with a devastating event as Eleanor played
- 10:46by Kerry Washington, is summoned by the police
- 10:48to identify the body of her best friend, Nancy,
- 10:51portrayed by Kate Mara. Well, alrighty folks,
- 10:56it's time for the quote of the day. And today,
- 11:00our quote comes from the American author and
- 11:02philosopher, Henry David Thoreau. And he said,
- 11:07What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us
- 11:10are tiny matters compared to what lives within
- 11:13us. And that's a wrap for this morning. You can
